Stomach Empty, Heart Full
Tumblr media
[part 2]
Viking!Bucky x Wife!reader
IN WHICH you’re sick and refuse to eat, but it’s nothing that your beefy husband Bucky can’t help with.
WC: 2.5k
Warnings: vague mentions of smut, mentions of puke, beefy!bucky, INACCURATE VIKING UNITS, pregnancy(?).
A/N: my mom is the BIGGEST viking fan and yet idk anything abt em so…yes everything about this is inaccurate. From their beds to their huts but it’s fiction so who CARES.
Tumblr media
A huge campfire was bustling outside your hut, that you knew. The sounds of men and women alongside their noisy children made the headache currently gnawing at your head just about 10 times worse. You’d been lying sick since this morning and if you were being honest with yourself, all you craved was for a good sip of water alongside the company of your dear husband.
Talking of, Bucky had been gone for far too long now. Even though he’d just gone on his regular routine as a fellow warrior, it helped that they’d only gone out to hunt that morning.
You suddenly winced as the high pitched wail of a kid adventuring far too close to your hut breached your ear drums, and from the thud that you’d heard a split second before, he’d taken a nasty fall to himself. It didn’t help that his father had chosen the front of your hut opening to reprimand his son, the headache feeling like it would burst out from your head and carve a hole through your skin at any moment now.
You couldn’t tell what sort of sickness you’d picked up on, but hell if you wouldn’t give up anything in your possession in that instant for an ounce of relief. Your stomach yelled at you for food, but the ache in your head only increased the growing nausea that came with your illness. You were sure that once you’d be healed and back on your feet, you’d kill whichever scum had passed on their bug to you.
Comfort only came as you curled over yourself, soft blankets warming you, the stitches and patches of soft furs from all sorts of animals that Bucky had hunted and skinned for you. You missed your husband so, so much more in your sick haze. Your eyes finally started to droop as you felt your body giving in to slumber, which was hard prior to the insane pounding at the far back of your head.
It didn’t take long for your vision to darken, your rumbling stomach being the furthest of your worries as a faint smile overtook your features as you felt the headache begin to dissipate as sleep pulled you in its arms. You could almost taste it, the sweet and victorious taste of relief, when-
“You are not joining us tonight?” And there it was, the pounding in your head almost immediately punched back to life at the loud sound of whoever that was that had breached your hut. You groaned in dismay, turning around reluctantly to find your sister looking at you in confusion. It didn’t help with the fact that she was your sibling, but at that instant you wanted nothing more than to rip her hairs straight from the root and craft yourself a rag doll with them out of spite.
“Get out.” you mumbled before rolling back, not missing the way her eyebrows furrowed at your rudeness. You’d treat her a little better if you felt a little better, but you didn’t, and to add to that the only person that you wanted with you right now was probably fighting off whatever beast was hiding in the forest.
She did, however, listen to you for what felt like the first time in your entire life as sisters. A content sigh left your lips at the newfound silence, as silent as it could be with a meal in preparation happening outside. Finally, you felt the warm arms of slumber welcoming you again in the embrace that you seeked so much, and it felt a little too good to be true. Maybe because you had a knack for jinxing yourself, but the sound of the hut door creaking again had you close to tears.
The sound of metal colliding against the floor however, gave you a brief idea that it was in fact not your sister. You didn’t have it in you to greet your husband, instead choosing to wallow in your pain as you held yourself like a dying child. You didn’t hear much from Bucky but the rustling of something that sounded big and meaty, probably a catch that he’d brought home to skin later.
On his side, Bucky was confused as to why you weren’t outside with the other people. It wasn’t that you didn’t know that the feast had arrived, and if you’d fallen asleep, the doubling in noise would’ve surely awakened even the deafest foe. He contemplated waking you up before his blue eyes fell upon the bucket of water by the door, as full as it was before he’d left home that morning.
With his eyebrow furrowed, Bucky kneeled beside you in all of his silence. You could hear the trinkets attached to his belt clanking against one another, his booted feet causing a heavy thud against the floor.
“You haven’t drunk, you haven’t eaten.” he stated as a matter of fact, and your undying silence threw him off. He’d been your husband long enough to know that you weren’t sleeping, eyelids shut as a decoy more than anything. The beefy brunette sighed at your actions, eyes flickering between the  abandoned wooden plate that harboured his food, waiting for him in all of its loneliness. The cut of meat had his mouth salivating for a taste, after all he had been gone all day to bring back food for his people, why shouldn’t he enjoy it?
Yet, he just couldn’t get himself to as he eyed your curled figure. There must’ve been a reason why you hadn’t bothered to take care of yourself today, of course there must’ve been one, and as your husband - it was all the more his duty to care for you. There was no resentment or obligations in his actions, only love.
One of Bucky’s palms slid under your cheek, disconnecting your face from its warm place upon the layers of furs. You whined in dismay, but Bucky didn’t falter. His huge palm covered half of your face, his thumb rubbing at your cheek with inclination. You felt your body relax once more as he slowly let go, as much as you’d normally complain, this time you felt happy as your cheek made contact with the blanket once more.
Your peace didn't last long, not when you had a burly husband who had enough force to take down a 300 pound beast on his own. You gasped suddenly as you felt his arms wrapping themselves around you, before pulling you into the warmth of a familiar torso. You wasted no time getting comfortable, you head pushing impossibly further into the firm flesh of his chest to serve as a pillow. It didn’t faze Bucky, blue iris simply gazing down at your slithering form.
“You haven’t eaten today,” he states again, and this time you’d actually taken the courage to look up at him, eyelids pushing away from each other painfully slowly as you tried to adjust to the dim light of the oil lamps burning by the side of the hut. You could feel his warm palm slowly inching itself into caressing your back through the material of your dress, the beaded necklace that you wore squished between the both your bodies.
Bucky didn’t ask, he could tell that you were ill and you had no intentions of talking if you didn’t feel well. So he did what he could, a hand digging into the meat in his plate to rip a fat piece off. You watched in dismay as his hands dragged to your mouth, pausing before you closed lips as you refused him access.
“You’ll be even more ill if you don’t eat, come on.” his gruffly voice sent shivers down your spine. You could feel the ends of his long, auburn hair tickling your cheeks as the wind whistled past the cracks of your shared hut. Your nose involuntarily scrunched at the smell of the meat before you, which you normally loved like all people in your village. Bucky took notice of your discomfort, lowering his hand slightly to prevent you from puking all over him and the place.
You made a sound of frustration, sick and tired of being sick and tired. You simply wanted to eat and all the more drink but your body just wouldn’t let you do any of it. So sick that tears pricked at your waterline again, resurfacing the throbbing headache that'd been killing you since this morning.
You couldn’t even have told when the sob had burst through your mouth, but it had apparently and it didn’t fail to startle the hulk of a man you were lucky to call your husband. In a split second, the food was dropped back in the discarded plate, and his hands were quick to carelessly wipe clean against his cloak with little to no care for it.
Bucky’s heart was hardened from the series of events that’d turmoiled his life from his birth, being a viking was anything but easy. He’d bathed in blood, his own like not, he was scarred mentally just as physically. Yet, he was fierce with a shell as hard as rock to carry his sorrows in. Despite all, nothing hurt Bucky like seeing you upset, or even worse in this scenario, hurt.
Cradling your head to his chest, he tilted your head softly towards his own as you cried upon his chest. It was weird seeing a woman such as yourself cry over something that couldn’t be seen, yet enough described because your words wouldn’t even allow you to. So to say that Bucky was worried was an understatement, you’d never cried over something so minor, best to deduct that it wasn’t.
“I’ll go and fetch the lach, better hope that Thyra has the herbs to fix you a remedy.” he spoke more to himself than to you, referring to the village healer. You didn’t want him to go though, you’d spent enough time on this miserable day away from the only man you’d wish to see, so you weren’t about to let him go.
“No, I can handle it until daytime. I just want to eat…I’ll try the meat again.” Bucky looked down at you in hesitance, remembering the way you looked so sick at the approach of his food. Nevertheless, he brought the food back up to your mouth, and you had to fight the inner battle to not throw up now and then. He could see your struggles, yet he only focused on your determination.
You chewed slowly so as to not upset your stomach further, giving Bucky the time he needed for him to get a taste of his own meal as well. Sure, the cut was barely enough for a man of his size but at least he’d get you to eat, he could always go out and get some more once you were satiated. His hand that wasn’t busy feeding the both of you was still glued to your back, keeping you flushed against his chest as he sat legs crossed amongst the many blankets.
You couldn’t help with the way your heart soared at his worry, at his care, and at his love. Sure he wasn’t the most verbally expressive man, but his actions meant more to you than any I-Love-Yous. The way his fingers curled against your side as a measure of extreme protection had you weak in the knees, and that said a lot considering you weren’t even standing.
By the time you’d both exhausted whatever food was on his plate, Bucky’s skilled hand worked for water. Grabbing a cup from the side, he sought water from the bucket by your front door. He took a drink first, draining the cup in two quick gulps. You watched as he served himself another cup, a drop of water dribbling past his beardy chin and onto the defined curve of his Adam's apple.
Fuck and if he didn’t just look so hot, you’d really gotten the finest pick of all men in your village. You lifted an unsuspecting hand up to his cheek, the prickly feeling of his beard against your palm made a shiver run down your spine. So much for all the days he’d spent buried between your legs, you felt a ghost of the burn you’d feel on your inner thighs at the friction everytime.
The sounds of water sloshing around brought you out of your daydreams, finally receiving the end of the cup as he lifted the edge to your lips. You liked everything about this, getting pampered while laying in your husband's arms. You couldn’t possibly have gotten two sips down your throat before-
“Maybe I should call the midwife to check on you tomorrow.” Bucky randomly blurted out, and you swore you’d never accidently taken a gulp of water this big before. The choking came first, then the excessive coughing fits before the headache resurfaced again. Now maybe you’d rethought everything, maybe you didn’t want to spend the rest of the night with Bucky anymore.
His hands quickly abandoned the cup to rub at your back, some silent apology of some sorts for surprising you, and eventually causing you to choke.
“You don’t think…” you looked up at your husband after you had calmed down, expectant baby blue iris staring right back at yours. Your lips were slightly parted in the confoundment of his words, you found yourself unable to speak past your sentence. You didn’t know any contraceptives further than a remedy of herbs, spells and whatnot the untrustworthy pull-out method. Yet even if  Bucky had been very obedient when it came to following that way, there were some days where he just couldn’t help himself.
His silence made you sigh to yourself, but you didn’t feel like speaking further yourself. The hut fell into a peaceful silence as you both wallowed in the other's presence, soaking each other's affection through soft touches and occasional prayers.You closed your eyes once more for the night, allowing yourself to fully sink into your husband’s burly arms.
Bucky didn’t complain, waiting for your shoulders to fall limp in indication that you’d finally submitted to the slumber you so craved. Now that you were sleeping, tucked and fed, he could finally go out and reach for a serving more appropriate for a man of his size. Though he staggered for a second, kneeling besides your sleeping form along the blankets that he’d arranged over you.
He moved the blanket properly after noticing that you’d already managed to mess up the ‘bed’ despite being dreams deep into your sleep. Bucky allowed his hand to hover over your stomach, before providing extra heat to the area that crossed his palm. He watched as your lips twitched into a smile in your sleep, his thumb uncontrollably caressing at the clothed area at the sight of your delight.
A rare smile tugged at the corner of Bucky’s lips, something that only you and his family had gotten to experience more often. His hand left your stomach as he rose to his feet, a distant dream of an infant swaddled by green cloth burning by the back of his mind. He didn’t turn back as he left the tent, stomach empty but heart full.

A.N: Hello my lovelies! This is my first fanfic ever so pls be nice sorry that it is so long
Warnings:suggestive,implications to sex
Tumblr media
You sat on Ted’s mustard yellow couch, your feet kicked up on it as you watched him edit one of his newest youtube videos. You sported one of his sweaters as you laid there.
He pushed his circular glasses up and he swiveled around in his chair, raising his eyebrows at you.
“Y’need attention? You’re kinda just..starin’ at me.” He dryly chucked, obviously not minding.
He crossed his legs and folded his hands in his lap, awaiting your reply. You walk up to his desk and stand behind his desk chair.
He raised an eyebrow as you walked behind him and leaned down, wrapping your arms around his shoulders to give him a back hug.
He chuckled and brought a hand up to hold one of yours as he craned his neck up to look at you.
“Someone’s clingy tonight.”
“Teddy kiss me please.” you say in a needy tone.
He hummed, feigning annoyance as he turned himself to look at you properly.
“You’re so demanding. Fine, fine, I’ll kiss you.”
He said before pulling you down to meet his lips.
He kissed you softly, gently at first, before he began to deepen the kiss, his tongue slipping past your lips.
He pulled your front half down, guiding you onto his lap.
“You almost done editing baby” you said softly
He pulled away from the kiss, panting heavily, a small trail of saliva connecting you both.
“I’ll never be done editing, love.”
He chuckled lightly and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.
He glanced at the computer screen behind him for a split second, making sure nothing messed up before he looked back up at you.
He rested his hands on each one of your thighs, giving them a gentle squeeze.
“You got a bit of attention, is it time to go back to being ignored now?”
He teased, a playful smirk settling on his lips.
He was always a bit playful with these things. He liked to rile you up before giving you what you want.
He leaned his head back against the chair, looking up at you as he ran his hands across your thighs.
“Or would you like to do somethin’ else..?”
He said, raising his eyebrows as he looked up at you through his glasses.
As he says that you decide to mess with him and you yank his glasses off his face and going running out the room.
He let out a surprised yelp as you snatched off his glasses, quickly standing up to follow you out of the room.
“Hey-Get back here!”
He called out after you, a small grin on his face.
He followed you out into the living room, the grin on his face widening, only visible by the moonlight shining in through the windows.
He was having fun now, not bothered by the fact you took his glasses.
“I’m gonna catch you, just you wait!”
His voice had a bit of a sing-songy tone as he continued his trek after you through the house.
He was still being fairly mild, only chasing after you and not trying to tackle you.
He was just having a bit of fun, he didn’t mind not being able to see so well.
He could tell you were getting closer to the bedroom, the carpet changing to the hardwood as he followed you.
He sped up the slightest, still not trying anything.
Just a silly game of tag, nothing more.
You rushed into the bedroom and immediately slammed the door shut behind you, a bit of a childish move, but you didn’t really think he’d get there that quick.
You had a moment to catch your breath before you heard the doorknob jiggle, and the door swung open to reveal a slightly disheveled Ted, panting heavily.
He leaned on the wall, still trying to catch his breath.
His hair was messy from the chase, his clothes a bit disheveled too.
“Damn-for someone that doesn’t run often-“
He was cut off by his own heavy breathing, taking a gasp of air before continuing.
“You’re bloody fast..”
He let out a small huff as he stepped into the room, shutting the door behind him.
He leaned against it as he got his breathing back under control, giving you a slight glare.
“What do you plan to do now? I’m right here.”
“Hmm,well I haven’t really decided that yet.” You say in a teasing voice.
He pushed himself off the door and began slowly making his way closer to you, the smirk still on his face.
“Well, I suppose I don’t give you much time to think, now do I?”
He teased as he continued to get closer, cornering you.
He stopped when he had you backed up against the wall, gently trapping you in between him and the wall.
A small chuckle escaped his lips as he brought his hands up, gently grabbing ahold of your wrists and pinning them against the wall on either side of you.
“Can’t go runnin’ away now, love. I got you cornered.”
His voice was low, and it made a shiver run down your spine.
He closed the gap between you two, his body now flush against your own, his knee finding its way in between your legs.
“Mm?”
He hummed as he looked down at you, raising an eyebrow.
“What’s wrong? Can’t speak?”
He teased, a smirk gracing his lips again.
He gently squeezed your wrists that he still had ahold of, pressing himself a bit closer to you.
He leaned down, his lips just barely brushing your ear.
“That’s alright, I don’t need words to make you scream my name.”
He chuckled, his hot breath dancing across your neck.
He leaned back to look at you, his smirk only growing wider as he watched you.
He loved having you so flustered like this, pinned up against the wall, no escape.
“So, you gonna misbehave again?”
He said as he tilted his head to the side, his grip on your wrists tightening ever so slightly.
“Maybe I will.”
He let out a small huff as you retorted, bringing his knee a bit higher up in between your legs, gently pressing against you.
“That’s not a very good idea, princess. I might have to punish you.”
He said in a low, almost growl-like voice.
He gently pushed your wrists up above your head, pinning them even more against the wall as his free hand began to wander.
He slowly dragged the hand along the side of your body before resting it on your hip, his grip on it firm and almost possessive. “You’d like that, though, won’t you?”
He said as he leaned down to your neck, planting kisses along it, occasionally nipping at the skin with his teeth.
Ted’s eyes widen at you wriggling your arm under him to grab his phone, unable to stop you before you ran out.
He groans in annoyance, dropping his jaw as you run away.
“Ah, you cheeky minx!”
He yelled after you.
He pushed himself off the wall and quickly made his way to the doorway, stepping into the hallway and looking around for you.
“You aren’t getting away with that, y’know!”
He called after you, his arms crossed across his chest, a small pout forming on his face.
“Come and get it baby!” You say while you stick your tongue out at him.
“Oh, I will.”
He said with a smirk as he started walking down the hallway to the living room.
Ted’s strides were long and confident, like he was on a war path.
He searched through the rooms on the way, looking for you as he grumbled curses under his breath.
As he walked by the bathroom door, he was met with a sight that nearly made him stop dead in his tracks.
You were standing in the bathroom doorway, leaning against the frame, his phone in hand, a mischievous smile on your lips.
He just stared at you for a moment, his eyes raking up and down your figure, taking in the sight.
His mind had gone blank upon seeing you just standing there like that.
He couldn’t deny the fact that seeing you like that turned him on, but he wasn’t about to let you win that easily.
He quickly got out of his head, a cocky smirk appearing on his lips.
“You think that’s gonna stop me from gettin’ to you, love?”
He said as he started taking slow, confident strides towards you.
He stalked closer to you, not once taking his eyes off you, his smirk never wavering.
He had to admit, he loved seeing you stand there in the doorway, the way you were looking at him, how you were playing with his phone in your hand.
He stopped when he got to you, only a couple inches of space between you.
He tilted his head to the side, the smirk growing into a grin as he spoke.
“You just gonna stand there, or are you gonna make some moves now?”
His voice was smooth and low like he was trying to dare you into something.
Ted lets out an annoyed grunt as you give him a quick kiss on the cheek before running out of the room once again, almost giving him whiplash as you run.
He turns to watch you as you go and let’s out a scoff.
“You’re really asking for it, you know that?”
He called after you as he started quickly walking after you.
“You can only run for so long, love.”
He called after you as he made his way further through the house.
He was determined to corner you now, his pace faster than before.
He was also starting to get slightly frustrated at the fact you kept evading him.
He made his way from the living area to the kitchen, and from the kitchen to the dining room, glancing into every room along the way to see if he could see you.
He muttered curses under his breath as he searched for you, annoyed and getting more worked up with each room he entered.
After searching the rest of the rooms on the first floor and not seeing you, he paused in the center of the house, his hands on his hips as he looked upstairs.
He knew you’d probably go there next, so he took a deep breath before making his way up the stairs.
“I know you’re up here. You better start running if you don’t want me to catch you.”
He called loudly, making sure you would be able to hear him.
He began making his way down the hallway towards the bedroom, slowly opening each door on the way to check.
He continued like this until he finally reached the bedroom at the end of the hallway, pausing in the doorway as he leaned against the frame.
He took a deep breath before calling out.
“Love, I’m gonna give you one chance here. Come out now and I won’t be too rough on ya.”
He paused for a moment, listening to see if he heard any noise.
He was waiting for you to respond, whether it be with a response of your own or to just try sneaking out.
He huffed as he heard no response, knowing full well you probably ignored him.
He pushed off the doorway, his stance changing into a more predatory one.
“You had your chance, doll.”
He said lowly to himself, beginning to make his way fully into the room.
He started looking around, making sure to check every spot he could, under the bed, the closet, anywhere he could imagine you trying to hide.
He began to get more and more frustrated as he continued to find no sign of you.
“I want you to be rough with me.”
Ted’s ears perk up slightly as he hears your voice.
He immediately turns towards the source, seeing you standing in the corner of the room.
His eyes rake up and down your form again, the words you said ringing in his ears.
He slowly begins walking closer to you, his walk almost like a stalk, like a predator approaching its prey.
”You want me to be rough, huh? You think you can handle that, princess?”
He stops in front of you, their chests touching as he looks down at you, a smirk on his face.
"You sure you can take it, sweetheart? I won't be holdin' back, y'know."
Let’s just say the next day you were barely able to walk.
A.N : hope you enjoyed reading again sorry if it long.also sorry that some sentences might be repeated because I copied this from my notes app.

Mirai, Riko and Hanami raced towards the Magic School. The clock ticked closer and closer to the time class started. The magical duo panted as they ran, terrified of being late yet again. Though, Hanami seemed to be having fun; thinking of the situation as some sort of game.
“We’re almost there!” Riko exclaimed in relief as they made it inside, now running through the halls.
“Yes! C’mon guys, we can make it!” Mirai sped to the front, having a sudden burst of energy. She turned her head, looking behind her to talk to the others. “We just have to get in the classroom before the teacher does!”
“Hey, no running in the halls!” A voice scolded.
Riko gasped. “Mirai, look out!”
She turned her head back to look in front of her, but it was too late. She crashed hard into whoever was there. Papers flew everywhere, and both people fell to the ground with a loud thud.
“Ow! Watch where you’re going!” The voice said, clearly very annoyed.
“I’m so sorry!” Mirai quickly apologized. She finally got a look of who she crashed into. It was you. Not wasting a second, she stood up, offering her hand to help you.
Riko stuttered nervously. “M-mx. (name)!”
“Oh, you know them?” Hanami asked innocently.
“What? You don’t?” Riko raised her voice in shock.
You scoffed, rejecting Mirai’s hand, and standing on your own. “Great. Look at what you’ve done.” You said, dusting yourself off. You bent down, and began to pick up the fallen papers.
“Oh, here! Lemme help! Cure Up Ra Pa Pa!” Hanami whipped her wand out, saying the magic words. Immediately, the papers levitated, flying around you in a pretty pattern before stacking into your arms neatly.
You hummed, skeptical. How could a newbie perform that spell?
“Oh, your hat!” Mirai said, noticing that it had also fallen. She picked it up, and placed it onto your head, rather crookedly.
You eyed them harshly for a few moments. Mirai and Hanami just stood in silence, kind smiles on their faces. Meanwhile, Riko looked absolutely mortified.
“You’d better hurry. Class starts in…” You paused to look at a nearby clock. “…43 seconds.” And with that, you walked away.
“Wow. They didn’t even thank us.” Mirai pointed out.
“Yeah. We were just trying to be nice…” Hanami said sadly.
“Guys! Do you even know who that was?” Riko finally spoke.
“Ummm…” The other two girls thought hard for a moment. But they couldn’t seem to remember seeing or hearing of you before.
“That was (name)! They’re like this school’s superstar! They’re perfect at everything! They see anyone beneath them as unworthy of their attention, so they always ignore everyone!” Riko explained, in disbelief that they didn’t know who you were.
“Woah! So we’re pretty lucky, huh?” Hanami asked happily.
“No! You guys got in their way! So now we’re even lower than them!” Riko said, clearly devastated. She gripped the brim of her hat tightly, tugging it down.
Mirai and Hanami looked at each other, before each taking one of her hands. “It’s okay, Riko! Who cares what they think? They’re not actually that important. It’s just a dumb popularity thing!” Mirai assured her.
“Yeah! Just because they’re smarter, doesn’t mean you aren’t cool too!” Hanami added.
All three girls smiled. But it didn’t last long, as the bell went off, declaring that they were late.
“Oh no!” They all shouted, and began running to their classroom once again.
~~~~
(After School)
The trio had finally finished class for the day. Luckily, they were able to talk their way out of a punishment, but their nerves were still calming down. At that moment, the only thing on their minds was relaxing, and praying that they didn’t need to deal with any Pretty Cure related things that day.
As they walked through the halls, the chatter suddenly changed moods. Looking behind them to see what the fuss was about, they saw you yet again. Everyone was admiring you, like you were the best thing since frozen mandarins. But at the same time, they kept a clear distance from you.
“(name)! Hi!” Hanami greeted happily, waving enthusiastically.
The entire hallway went silent. No one talked to you, ever. It looked like she had insulted your whole bloodline based on everyone’s faces.
You stopped walking. “Oh, it’s you. The ones who were quite literally running late.” You said, not even turning to look at them.
The other students began murmuring. They simply couldn’t believe you were even talking to them at all.
“Hey, you were running late too!” Mirai pointed out, upset to be called out as if they were the only guilty ones.
The students gasped. They couldn’t believe what they just heard! The star student running late? No way!
Your head snapped in their direction. Your eyes stared cold, sharp daggers. It sent a chill down all of the girls’ spines. “I was not running late. I had arrived to class earlier than everyone else. I was simply retrieving some papers for the teacher. And even so, I got back before the bell rang, even after your little mishap.”
All three of them gulped nervously. They weren’t sure if you were going to do something to them or not. But when you turned your head back in front of you, they felt their prayers had been answered.
“It’s a shame that such… interesting students are so irresponsible.” And with that, you walked away from them yet again.
“Hey, wait!” Riko called out. But you simply ignored her; done with the conversation.
Suddenly, all three girls were surrounded by students. They braced themselves for being yelled at for talking like that to you. But instead, they received words of admiration.
“Did you hear that? (name) called you guys ‘interesting’! That’s awesome! They’ve never said anything like that to someone else before!” A boy said.
“That’s right! They must be impressed by you or something!” A girl suggested.
“The school’s odd balls and the star student? Is this a rivalry or something?” Someone asked.
Everyone started murmuring in both excitement and nervousness at that question. They knew that it was very possible. You only ever talk to those you deem worthy of your attention. And you gave them more than you’ve given anyone in the history of your student life. So it could very well be the beginning of a rivalry.
“Oh no… what’ve we done?” Mirai mumbled full of guilt.
“What are you talking about?” Riko grabbed her hand, looking her in the eyes. Her own were filled with pure excitement and determination. “This is amazing! We have a rival! That means we have to up our game if we wanna surpass them! Imagine their face when we do!” She began rambling.
Mirai had fully expected Riko to be upset at her for starting all this. But it seemed that she had unintentionally begun something new entirely. “Okay!” She puffed air out of her nose. “Sounds like we gotta study even harder now!” She grabbed Hanami’s hand with her free one, and thrusted both hands into the air as a sort of group cheer.
“Yeah!” They all shouted in unison, as if casting a special spell to do better.
They all knew that in order to be worthy rivals, they had to do more than their best. But for the sake of fun and validation, they were more than okay with that. So after that day, they vowed to follow that goal. Both them and the entire school couldn’t wait to see what happens.
Rough draft for the first chapter of my oc x Bumblebee fanfic:
“Ugh, I’m bored!” Twitch groaned. She flopped down into a block of hay, it was midday on a Thursday. “There’s nothing to do!”
“You can always go on patrol.” Bumblebee said.
“We can do that!?” Twitch and Thrash said in unison.
“We’re scouts. You know… Let’s make this a training lesson! Whoever can bring back the most interesting thing back from patrol wins!” In Bumblebee’s mind, this was a great idea, finally something to get them excited to train. “But, uh, don’t go more than 5 miles.”
“Woo! Mo, wanna come with?” Thrash transformed.
“Uh, yea!” Mo jumped into Thrash’s passenger seat.
Twitch turned to Robby. “Wanna come, Robby?”
“I’m good, dad needs help making lunch.” Robby got up and headed towards the house. “Bring back something cool!” He yelled.
“Well, Twitch that leaves you on your own.” Bumblebee said. “We’ve got 30 minutes, ready, set… Go!” Thrash zoomed off, and Bumblebee and Twitch transformed, heading off into their own directions.
Twitch zoomed through the trees, going faster and faster. “Wa-hoo!”
Twitch transformed, landing on the soft dirt ground. “Gotta find something, something cool, it’s gonna rule!” Twitch sang, digging around the bushes and trees.
A loud piercing sound with gushing wind followed. Twitch jumped back. She ran out to the cliff side clearing, high up above the valley below.
A red jet spun in the air, making sharp turns, along the snowy mountains, big evergreen trees, and the big blue lake.
The jet sped up, only feet away from the water. It leaned one of its wings into the water, making a big wave effect.
Then, the jet went straight up into the air, going higher and higher, until the jet transformed into a bot!
The bot was falling, then they spread their arms out, transforming back into a jet before they hit the water.
They sped back up into the air, transforming and landing gracefully on the cliff side, their red and black paint shining in the sun.
“That was so cool!”
The bot turned around to Twitch running up to them.
“Umm… Thanks…?” His voice sparked a bit of confusion.
“My name's Twitch, what’s yours?” Twitch hovered to reach his height.
“Names Nitro, kid.” His bright red optics looked down at her chest. “No badge? You must be neutral? Don’t see many of them around here.”
“Oh, me? I mean I guess, but my mentor is an Autobot, his name is Bumblebee, his lessons are so boring, though. Can you teach me to do those flight moves you were doing!?” Twitch was firing questions.
“Your mentor is Bumblebee!? Bumblebee is here?” Nitro became serious for a moment.
“Yeah? Ooo, do you know him!?”
Nitro glanced away for a second, his wings twitching. He smiled. “Of course, me and Bee go way back, old buddies during the war!”
“Oh, my, gosh! You should totally come back with me to my house! Bumblebee is always so boring cause it’s always just him there. Maybe with an old friend he’ll lighten up!”
“Sorry, kid…” Nitro paused. “Gotta stay hidden and stuff.”
“Oh…” Twitch looked down at her feet. “Well I better find something for the competition- THE COMPETITION! I HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING COOL!”
Twitch started heading back into the forest. “Nice to meet you, mister Nitro! I’ll tell Bumblebee I saw you!”
“Wait!” Nitro yelled after her. “Don’t! Let’s make it a surprise!” He took a missile off his left arm, and threw it at Twitch, who caught it. “Take this for your competition.”
“Thanks, mister Nitro! When will I get to see you again?”
Nitro scratched his chin, then smirked. “Bring me two cubes of Energon, meet up here, and I’ll teach you everything I know!”
Twitch smiled, then transformed, disappearing into the forest. Nitro sighed with a low laugh.
“So, so gullible. I hope you like your ‘present’, Bumblebee… It’s time to restart the hunt.”
Part 2 of my TIG fanfic. Thinking of calling it “Racetracks and Revelry”
It’s a short piece today, guys, gals, and in-between/non-binary pals. Sorry. The inspo didn’t flow well in the time span.🫤
 Avery stifled a laugh out of pity when Grayson stepped out of Daybreak after his five laps. Jameson didn’t bother stifling anything. He was doubled over, guffawing at Grayson’s shaken and possibly sick expression. Even Ashlyn chuckled slightly. As the blonde sat on a bench that wasn’t moving to recover while glaring daggers at everyone, Ashlyn turned to Jameson.
 “Alright bud. You ready for your turn? Something tells me you could stand the full ten laps.”
 “You know it.” He donned the helmet he was given and got in Daybreak’s passenger seat.
 “Buckle up, Jameson. This thing goes fast. Really fast.”
 “Sweetheart, I’m Jameson Hawthorne. I’ve gone 200 miles per hour before. You didn’t take Aves and especially not Grayson anywhere near that fast. I mean, come on, it looked like you didn’t even take ‘em faster than maybe 160.” I smirked, feeling confident.
 “Oh, so we’ve got someone experienced, huh?” She cocked an eyebrow and smirked right back. “Someone who thinks he’s all that. We’ll see about that, Jameson Hawthorne.” She chuckled. Then she leaned over me and buckled my seat belt. I could feel my breath go slightly more shallow than it had been mere moments before. The air I did get brought with it her intoxicating scent of sandalwood and vanilla. God, it smelled amazing. Wasn’t vanilla a natural aphrodisiac? I wouldn’t be surprised given the way it made me feel. All too soon, she settled back in her seat, while her smell lingered a few seconds longer.
 “So then. I’ll take you around the track faster. How does that sound?” she asked me.
 “Yeah, sounds great.” I gathered my senses. It wasn’t often that I was jostled. She buckled up and the vehicle lurched from zero to 90 in less than five seconds. I could feel the adrenaline start flowing freely once we passed 120, and she only sped up. Of course, she handled the car masterfully(it was her job, after all), but seeing it first hand was something else. There was a certain grace that it took to handle cars at 150 plus miles per hour, and it came naturally to her. Something about it made her all the more attractive to me. There was just something about going 200 miles per hour with her that made me feel some jitters in my stomach. Is that why they say “butterflies in your stomach”?
 The way the sunlight came through the windows at any given moment and ran across her smiling face and and flashed in her milk chocolate-colored eyes thrilled me as much as the ride itself. The look on her face as she focused on the track could have told anyone that this is what she loved to do. Her job was her passion. She and I were cut from the same cloth when it came to speed.
 I wondered if we shared anything else in common.
frank iero x gn!reader
summary- after a long day of working in the studio, you and Frank cuddle 👍👍
pronouns- none used I don’t think but if so, they/them
warnings- swearing
2nd pov-
‘Frankkkk when are we going home’ you yawned ‘I’m tired!’ ‘Soon, I promise-’
‘Okay, we’re done for the day guys’ Gerard announced, walking over to the door. ‘You wanted me to drive you back home as well didn’t you Frank?’
‘I’m not walking home like this’ He replied, talking about the fact that you were half asleep in his arms. You both got into Gerard’s car, your head was on Frank’s shoulder but it still wasn’t comfortable enough, you just wanted to get home already. ‘Okay, get out now’ Gerard said as Frank opened the door and carried you out. Gerard sped away as Frank put you down to unlock the door.
You ran up the stairs and frank chased you.
‘Hey! I thought you were tired?!’ Frank walked into the room and you were already putting on your pyjamas. By that, I mean on of Frank’s shirt and a pair of his shorts.
‘Wha- those are mine!’ Frank tackled you onto the bed and you hid under the blanket. For some reason he didn’t notice your disappearance and got all comfortable in the bed. All of a sudden you crawled up to his chest on top of him.
‘Boo bitch’
He screamed and you fell off of him into the other side of the bed.
‘Shit! Don’t scare me like that’
You giggled and hugged him.
‘Fuck you’re so warm’ you said quickly, snuggling into him.
‘Why are you so cute’ he looked down at you, you had quickly fallen asleep. He hugged you tightly and fell asleep too.
The end
I KNOW IVE ALREADY APOLOGISED BUT IM SO SORRY ITS SO SHORT, THIS IS HORRIBLE I AM SO SO SORRY.
✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧⋄⋆⋅⋆⋄✧
You heard the echoes of Astoria Greengrass in your ears. “You don’t amount to anything, so stop acting like you do.”
You kept your head down in the corridor, you didn’t want any attention as you felt a tear trickle down your cheek. The voice in your head of her was still fresh, the confrontation happening right before your previous class.
As you walked, you couldn’t exactly see where you were going and before you knew it, you slammed into somebody.
Hard.
Your books fell to the ground and you stumbled back, “Oh my gosh I-I’m sorry.” You said your voice cracking. You bent down, hair in your face to grab your books and stood up brushing yourself off. Your eyes widened behind your hair to see it was none other than Astoria,
with Draco Malfoy.
Draco didn’t know what Astoria did to you, how she made your life miserable, and you didn’t have the heart to tell him. After all, he was the closest person in your life, and up until Astoria you were his most important being. She was his girlfriend, and no matter what you felt for him, you wanted him happy.
“Oh my goodness, are you alright?” Astoria asked you in a fake voice of concern, so Draco couldn't tell what she was up to.
The words caught in your throat, all you could do was open your mouth and stutter. You felt Draco’s eyes on you, unmoving and analyzing. You refused to look at him, even though his gaze was asking you too. Astoria walked towards you slowly, and moved your hair out of your face, “Oh dear, you didn’t see us while crying did you? It's okay, no worries!” she said, smirking at you.
“Wait, Y/n’s crying?” Draco said walking quickly up to you, concern lacing in his voice, “Y/n, are you alri-“
“Yes, I’m fine.” You interrupted, voice breaking. You bent down to pick up your quill and sped off the opposite direction, never making eye contact with Draco.
You could never lie to him, so you didn’t look at his blue eyes as you ran away. You felt bad treating him like that. You cared about him so much, and if he was happy, that’s good enough for you. You’d help keep him that way.
You knew why Draco panicked, you never cry. You hate to cry in front of people, so he had never seen it happen before. It’s why you had to leave so quickly, he’d be drilling you with questions, knowing you would tell him.
The next few days were a nightmare. Astoria seemed to have taken pride in your tears, you didn’t know why she hated you, neither of you had ever spoken until she started dating your best friend. She filled the day with glares, hidden snickers in the back of the classroom, and slamming your books to the ground, whenever her boyfriend wasn’t around.
Draco noticed the changes in your behavior, and what’s been bugging him is he hasn’t even gotten a moment to hold a conversation with you about it. He currently was holding hands with Astoria, in the halls of the castle and his heart dropped when he saw you.
Your hair was out of character, as if you hadn’t slept right, your skin losing its healthy glow with bags under your eyes. You looked like you were trying to shrink into your robe, as if you never wanted to be seen or found. Your books were raised a little too high and you were hunched over them, head down.
This is the exact opposite of who you used to be. The girl who slept too much, and ate everything in sight. The girl who helped the first years find their way around. The girl whose laugh and smile was so contagious, everyone was happier when you were in the room. He always wanted to express emotions the way you did, and the feeling he had when he was around you was unlike anything he’s ever had before. It was like he was brand new. No worries, no fear… he was just himself. But right now, you were anything but those things.
So what happened to you?
You were now approaching him and his girlfriend, he raised his hand to wave softly at you as Astoria tried to greet you. You jumped at the sound of her voice and walked past them as fast as you could without running.
“Huh, that was funny.” Astoria said lightly, linking her arm with his own. Draco didn’t say anything, he was too lost in thought, panicking in it.
What is happening to you?
It was now dinner time in the Great Hall. The sky was dark, and the crisp leaves were falling off the trees. Draco usually saved you a seat across from him, but today one of Astoria’s friends took the spot. He watched the large doors as students piled in, looking for your lost soul of a figure among them.
Eventually, all the students sat down and Dumbledore’s speech began. Yet you still weren’t there, he swears up and down he hasn’t seen you all day since the hallway incident. It felt like you were avoiding him.
“Is everything okay, honey?” Astoria questioned, as he stared at the empty archway.
“Yeah, this bloody speech is draining me.” He lied, causing Astoria to snicker. But that wasn’t it at all, he couldn’t find you, and it was beginning to make him nauseous.
The food appeared, and there was no sign of you. He didn’t eat, studying the doorway for your anticipated arrival.
“Really honey, are yo-“ Astoria began.
“You’re distracting me.” he snapped, without hesitation.
She seemed taken aback, “From looking at the archway of the doors?” She asked slowly.
“Yes. Shush.” He demanded, angrily.
Astoria looked at the archway, and back at him. She stood up, “I’ll be back, just a quick run to the loo.” She smiled, and her friend waved as she quickly left.
“Eat some food, Draco. You’ll-“
“It’s Malfoy to you, and I don’t even know you. So what makes you think I’d listen to you, exactly?” He hissed at Astoria’s friend. She quickly silenced herself, but to her relief, Astoria came back a few moments after.
“Sorry, did I miss anything?” Astoria asked, much happier than before.
“Just these amazing pastries you have to try!” Her friend answered, excitedly. The girls began to chatter and Draco never took his eyes off that door.
And then it happened.
You walked in towards the Slytherin table, and he jumped from anxiously waiting. The closer you got the worse he saw you were. Your eyes were red, your lip was cut and bleeding and you had a bruise on the side of your face you tried to cover with makeup.
You made eye contact with Draco for the first time in months and he watched as your eyes widened. You suddenly whipped around and at full speed, and left as fast as you could. The blonde boy immediately flew out of his seat after you, knocking over his goblet of pumpkin juice
“Draco!” Astoria yelled. But it was too late, the both of you were gone as fast as you came.
“Y/n!” You heard Draco yell. You ran faster, trying to out run him.
“Y/n! Stop! Now, please!” His voice echoed through the empty halls.
You ran faster, tears streamed from your eyes, you rubbed them away knowing your injuries you were hiding were most likely visible. You ran up the staircase, Draco catching up you now. He just made it behind you when the trouble striked. You felt the stairs begin to move,
“No!” You screamed, voice hoarse from all the crying you’d done.
You did something rash, something that could have accidentally ended your life, if Draco wasn’t trying to get to you.
You tried to jump to the other staircase.
You ran and just leapt off the last step, when Draco’s hand caught yours and he pulled you down at a full force. You slammed into him and you both stumbled down the staircase into an unknown corridor.
Draco groaned, his head banged hard on the floor, a loud ringing in his ears. The corridor was a dingy dark, only visible by firelight. As soon as the ringing went away, it was replaced by another sound. A sound he never heard, but hated as soon as it reached his ears.
You were sobbing.
Draco winced as he sat up and saw you. You were stomach down, hiding your face in the floor, arms wrapped around both sides of your head, crying harder than Draco ever could.
He crawled over to you, and turned you around. His eyes widened, bruises were all over you, on your neck, forehead, and even a whole handprint was on your cheek. Your lip was cut open, and blood smeared over your whole bottom lip.
You stopped your sobbing as best as you could as he analyzed you once again. “Y/n, was any of this from the fall?” He asked you firmly, but also fairly gently. You were a fraction of who you were supposed to be, he didn’t want to scare you away.
You couldn’t look at him, you just couldn’t. The look that would lie in his eyes would be too much for you. “Y/n please. It’s just you and me here. It’s okay, love.”
Love.
You slowly turned to him, locking eyes, and you couldn’t hold in tears as you shook your head ‘no’. Immediately, he scooped you up into his lap, and wrapped his arms around you. One hand on your back, the other on your head, as rubbed circles though your hair while you sobbed. He felt you clinging onto him, as if your life depended on it.
“Y/n, I think you need to go to the hospital wing, you-“
“No!” You yelled again. It’s a word that you had to keep on using.
“No, Astoria please!” You screamed as she slammed you across the face.
“No! Please!” You screamed as Astoria, kicked your curled up body on the lavatory floor.
“No….. stop…. please!” You choked as Astoria’s hand was on your neck, her friends holding you back.
“No, Astoria! No, please no!” As she busted your lip with a spell to your face.
Panic set in at the memories, and you forgot Draco was there, it was like you were in another world. Draco tried not to freak out, but he had never seen you like this, which severely worried him. He grabbed you softly, “I’m right here, nobody is going to hurt you. It’s me and you. I’m right here.” He said it over and over, rocking you back and forth, until your heartbeat slowed and you caught your breath.
“I’m so sorry.” You whispered. It was almost inaudible, you weren’t even sure if he heard, but you continued in the whispering tone, it was all you could muster.
“I’m sorry I disappeared, I’m sorry I couldn’t look you in the eyes, I’m sorry I hid from you, I’m sorry I avoided you, I-“
“I’m not mad at you, darling. I’m worried about you. I’m mad at whoever did this to you.” He gestured to your beaten up body. You sniffled and he wiped away your tears with his thumbs.
“Please tell me who did this to you, y/n. I can kill them for you.” He joked, attempting to make you laugh, but your eyes widened. It got Draco’s brain in motion, because you always laughed at his jokes.
“Y/n, do I know them?” He asked you, sternly.
You hesitated and then nodded slowly, watching fury take over his features.
“Dear God.” He ran a hand through his hair. “And you’re not gonna tell me?”
Silence.
“Tell me, I don’t care who it is. If it’s Blaise, or Potter, even a random first year, I don’t care. I need to know who’s bloody hands were on you.”
You looked at him, he was in distress. Draco always had a facade, everyone has one, but his was strong. He hid his emotions so well, people questioned if he even had them, but he always showed you who he was.
“Draco, I shouldn’t. I’m sorry.” You stood up, wobbling. Draco was quick to follow, he stood up and caught you.
“Please tell me.” He whispered, holding you close. “We aren’t leaving until you do.” He added softly, his tone lacing with a meaning of business.
Suddenly, the door opened to reveal Astoria, you jumped and grabbed onto Draco to steady yourself upright even more. The last thing you wanted was to look vulnerable in front of her.
“Draco! My dear, where have you- y/n!” Her eyes turned to daggers, seeing you pressed up against Draco. You quickly let go of him, and stepped backwards, slowly, into the wall.
“Astoria, please. It’s not what you- you are thinking. I fell down the steps and I-“
“What did I tell you?” She hissed, as she advanced towards you. You were terrified to say the least. She had you against the wall, ready to strike and out of you screamed,
“Astoria, please, don’t hurt me again! Please! No!” You fell to the ground out of fear, your head hidden under your hands.
But, a strike never came. Slowly you opened your eyes to see Draco, dragging her out silently, but coldly, by her wrist. They seemed to be yelling but you were so horrified at the situation, you couldn’t make any of it out. You closed your eyes, wanting all the fear to be a bad dream.
You felt a hand on your shoulder, you flinched, but quickly recognized who it really belonged to. You looked up and saw him looking down at you.
“I’m so sorry, Draco.” Your voice was shot, it was like sandpaper in your throat. He bent over and scooped you up, then carried you out the door and towards the dungeons.
You must have dozed off in his arms, because you woke up to Draco kicking the door to the boys dormitory open with his foot. He set you on his bed and pulled out a pair of his sweatpants and a hoodie.
“Get changed, I’ll be right back.” He said, fire lingering in his voice from earlier.
Slowly and carefully, you changed into the pants, wincing from the pain. You had the hoodie just over your chest, when Draco walked in and froze. Your whole stomach was covered in cuts and bruises, even slightly swollen in some places. He saw it as quickly as it came, as they were covered by his hoodie.
“I brought you stuff.” He said softly, walking over to you with a plate of your favorites, along with some pumpkin juice. “You need to eat, and you need to talk too.”
He let you take a few bites, and relaxed seeing you eat, knowing you were okay. Well, as okay as you could be, and then he spoke what he has been holding.
“Love, how long has this been going on?”
“How long have you been talking to Astoria?” you mumbled back to him.
He paled, “Y/n… that’s months.”
You felt like you wanted to throw up, you didn’t ever want to have to explain this to him.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
You quickly turned to him from that sentence, because of how he said it. His voice was broken, the whole thing wobbled. You never heard sadness from him... ever. As you looked at him, his eyes were deeply looking at yours, almost begging, but for what you didn’t know.
You sighed, “I knew you were happy,” you admitted bleakly. “I didn’t want to take that from you. I was handling it.”
He ripped up the sleeve of your arm, “ Does this look like handling it?!” He hissed, with ice to his tone. You jumped, and his eyes widened. “Y/n, I- I’d never hurt you… oh my god.” Then something happened you never thought would.
He completely broke down in your arms. It was strange to see someone who always seemed to be strong, completely disheveled.
“Y/n, I’m so sorry.” His body shook as he said it over and over. “I should have known what was happening, and I didn’t, I-“
He felt you rubbing his back, he felt so guilty. All this time of pushing his feelings down because he cared so much about you, and you took so much for him, and he didn’t even know. He thought you’d be safer without him, but it turns out you were safer with him.
“Draco, none of this is your fault. Please don’t blame yourself. I should have told you, and… I’m the one that should be sorry.”
You wrapped your arms around him and he grabbed you, and he moved to lean against the headboard of the bed. Stroking your hair, which calmed you, but also seemed to calm him. You began to explain your side of the story.
“Draco, it wasn’t always like this… But for some reason she always hated me, and I never knew why. It was just glares and rude looks at first, from the way my hair looked or whatever I was wearing, I don’t know. Eventually, she brutally grabbed my wrist and threw me into an empty classroom. She told me if I ever got near you that I would get it. To be honest, I thought she was bluffing… but she wasn’t.” You sniffed.
Draco was staring at you, hand on your back, soaking every word.
“After that, I didn’t leave you alone. I let our relationship as friends stay the same, that’s when everything started. I let her belittle me, I let her bully me, attack me, you name it. First it was just her, she would beat me up in the girls lavatory, the outside when leaving Care of Magical Creatures, basically anywhere she could lay her hands on me, she did. Then she decided to invite her friends, and that’s when things started getting severe. It seemed like they were everywhere, I couldn’t sleep, I was scared to eat thinking I’d be beaten to where I would throw it all up. Living was a nightmare, and what was worse is I had to keep myself away from you. I didn’t know what she was capable of. I didn’t want her to break your heart, I knew you were happy. I decided that it would be best to keep you that way, so I let her beat me so she would never hurt you. I just…. let it happen. I know it doesn’t make sense. But, I was so scared I couldn’t tell my left from my right, you know?”
Draco was furious, and as soon as you looked back up to him, you saw it. “I swear, if she wasn't a woman, she’d be dead by now.” he growled, eyes glaring like daggers.
It caused you to smile, tiredly. “I don’t doubt it.”
He brushed your hair behind your ear, his face softened from the touch of it. “It’s over now, she won’t lay a finger on you. I got you always.” You relaxed into his chest and let him say what was on his mind.
“You’re the most important person in my life, heck y/n, you’re my person. I can’t tell you how I felt when I saw your face as she approached you.” He sighed, hand running through his hair again, refusing to name his now ex-girlfriend.
“That’s my worst nightmare, the lack of your safety. It’s engraved in my brain, the look of pure fear in your eyes. Never again, I promise. Just… if something dangerous ever happens, tell me okay? I don’t want this to happen ever again. I'm going to have you by me at all times…”
He went on about his plans to keep you safe, how he couldn’t believe it. He went on and on, but you smiled laying on his chest, you head against his heart. It was pounding, Draco admitted you were his person. He couldn’t handle emotions really well, so you knew what that meant.
After he finished, he heard the soft, rhythmic, breathing coming from you. He smiled and pulled his covers over you. Knowing you were safe, he saw you smiling in your sleep. It warmed his heart knowing he was the one you felt at your best with. That he was your protector. Knowing you were not awake, he pressed a delicate kiss to your forehead, and began to lazily play with your hair.
One day, he would actually be able to tell you his feelings, but right now, this was more than enough. Wounds were fresh, figuratively and literally, and knowing you’re safe is all he wanted for you right now.
He felt himself drifting, the girl he always loved on top of him. This is all he could ever want, and all you ever wanted too.
He squeezed you tightly, and fell into a deep sleep. You still smiled in your dreams, knowing you won’t ever get belittled again.
Komaeda yawned as he turned around the bed, his face facing yours. He stared at you with a small smile. “Good morning my hope..” He murmured, giving you a kiss before snuggling you.
You gave a small groan before hugging him a bit tighter. You slowly gained consciousness and opened your eyes. “Good mornin’ Nagito..” You greeted, your tone slightly in a whisper. “Had a good night's sleep?” You asked. You felt him nod as he backed away a bit. “How about you?”
“It’s always a good night when I’m with you.” You answered. Komaeda chuckled before trying to sit up, but failed when you pulled him down to you. “Come on, we got to eat with the others.” He tried to reason, but not resisting your hug.
“Let them.. I don’t care.”
So you and Komaeda stayed like that for a few minutes. When the morning announcement came, you both ignored it and continued to stay in you and Komaeda’s comfort zones.
You were almost drifting to sleep with Komaeda again when...
“Hey Lovebirds! Wake up! The morning announcement was announced a few minutes ago! Get your butts out of the beds and let’s eat!” A male voice shouted from the other side of the door.
“Don’t shout at them Kazuichi! They might be sleeping.” A female voice whisper-yelled at Kazuichi. “Sorry..”
One of the two knocked on the door and the female said “Y/n? Komaeda? Are you there? We’re going to eat and we’d like you two to join.”
“Maybe they-”
“Alright! Alright.. We’re up. We’ll join soon.” You answered.
“Great! We’ll see you both in the restaurant!” The female voice chirped before leaving with Kazuichi.
Komaeda stood up and walked to the closet, and began changing. His back facing you. You looked away for a minute before looking back. He was changing his shirt, now shirtless. You grinned and walked towards Komaeda.
Komaeda heard shuffling from the bed, telling him you're either standing up or just still sleepy. You wrapped your arms around Komaeda and kissed his neck. Komaeda let out a giggle as you continued to kiss his neck playfully.
Soon after, you finally stopped and unwrapped your arms around him, letting him continue to change.
Once he was finally done, you changed your clothes and began walking with Komaeda. Hands intertwined.
You both arrived in the restaurant and were met with Koizumi. “Good morning Y/n! Komaeda! Why were you two late again? Didn’t Byakuya tell you to never be late?” Koizumi greeted as she sat on a chair, you and Komaeda right across her.
“I wanted to sleep in.. Anyways, where are the others?”
“Them? Oh, they left a few minutes ago. After they ate, they just left. Well, Byakuya told me to wait for you guys and tell you not to-”
As you and Koizumi talked, Komaeda slowly ate his food, lovingly staring at you. Seeing as you smile and make cute faces that Komaeda adores so much.
After eating, You, Komaeda, and Koizumi bid goodbyes as Koizumi separated from you and Komaeda, telling you that “I promised that I’d hang out with Hiyoko for the day. See you guys later!”
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
You and Komaeda were walking through the beach when you saw a frisbee coming Komaeda’s way. Out of instinct, you pushed Komaeda out of the way. The frisbee avoided Komaeda but hit your arm.
You hissed in pain and held the part of the arm that hurted. Once the pain lessened, you checked the arm to see that nothing bad happened.
Two people, mainly Akane and Nekumaru, ran towards you. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry- uhh.. Woman.?” Akane apologized, forgetting your name. “It’s Y/n..” You deadpanned, temporarily forgetting the pain. Komaeda walked to the frisbee and took it then gave it to Nekumaru, thanking him in return.
“ARE YOU ALRIGHT?” Nekomaru asked loudly, making you slightly flinch at the volume. “I’m alright, I’m alright.” You answered. “WE’RE VERY SORRY WE-”
You interrupted him and exclaimed “It’s fine! Don’t worry. It’s nothing I can’t handle.” You glanced at Komaeda, seeing him next to you, looking at you in worry. “Aight then.. See ya later girly and white haired dude! Sorry!” Akane said before running off, with Nekomaru following behind.
Komaeda gently held the arm that was hit with a frisbee and blamed himself. “Ah I’m so sorry Y/n! My luck’s getting worse. It’s my fault you got hurt. I should’ve gotten hit.”
You took your arm out of Komaeda’s hands and cupped his face. You and Komaeda stared at each other before kissing for a short while. “Komaeda. Don’t blame yourself. Please.”
You pecked his lips again. “Are you hurt?” You asked him. “But I should be the one-”
“Are you hurt, Nagito?” You asked again. He shook his head ‘no’ and you smiled. “Good. I took the hit for you just to protect you Nagito. You almost got hit with a frisbee. I wouldn’t want something bad for you to happen. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
Komaeda was silent. He couldn’t open his mouth, but even if he did, Komaeda couldn’t find the words he wanted to tell you. So instead, he hugged you. You hugged back, giving him a little squeeze. “Let’s go back to the dorms and cuddle, yea?”
Komaeda hummed in agreement then yelped as you carried him bridal style to the dorms. Worried, Komaeda asked you if he’s heavy and to put him down if so. “Your light as a feather. Nagito. Don’t worry.”
As you sped up the pace making you jog with you holding Komaeda bridal style. Komaeda looked at you worryingly, so you slowed down a bit to his preferred speed. You and Komaeda laughed happily since you both were having fun.
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
You gently placed Komaeda down on the bed with you lying beside him. As you were spooning him (You were the big spoon while he was the small spoon), he began to move a bit then held your hand that was near him then gave it a small kiss.
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
You were in your room with Komaeda hugging you from the side as you two were talking to one another. Out of the blue, your stomach growled. Komaeda chuckled as you looked away sheepishly with a blush on your face.
“Are you hungry, Angel? Do you want me to buy some snacks for you?” You nodded embarrassed. Komaeda chuckled again and gave you a kiss on the forehead. “No need to be embarrassed, Y/n. I’m just going to buy food for you.” He said while he sat up from the bed, looking at you.
“Can I come with you?” You asked, hoping you would join.
He shook his head ‘no’ to your dismay. “It’s alright, my hope. I can do this by myself. I don’t want to tire you. You seem tired.” You pouted, a bit disappointed. Komaeda reassured you that he’ll be fine, so you finally agreed. You stopped pouting then rolled over the bed.
“Would you want me to buy your favorite snacks and drink?” Komaeda asked as he was walking towards the door. “Yes please.”
“Alright.. I’ll be back soon, Love.” Komaeda bid goodbye before leaving you all alone in the room.
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
You waited for what felt like hours. You kept turning left and right on the bed bored. No one to talk to. Nothing to entertain you. ‘I guess a small nap wouldn’t hurt..’ You thought before slowly drifting off to sleep.
Or that’s what you thought.
You opened your eyes in frustration that you couldn’t sleep either. “Great... Now I can’t sleep. And I'm bored!” You shouted. You slightly jumped when you heard a drop from the roof.
Soon after, more and more rain drops started to fall down and you immediately knew it was raining. You stood up and walked towards the door, opening it and stepping outside the room. The rain was heard louder. You sat on the room floor, and your legs outside. You bring your legs closer to your chest and wrapped your arms around it. Resting your head on your knee, you watched the rain falling from the sky as you waited for Komaeda worryingly.
“Y/n?” You heard faintly. You thought it was your imagination and ignored it. But you heard it again but more clearly. “Y/n!” ‘Komaeda?’ You murmured as you looked around your surroundings confused.
You stared at a figure that was slowly growing in your vision. The more you stared at the figure, the more you recognized the figure as Komaeda. In panic, you immediately went inside the room and found (Coincidentally) an umbrella. You went outside, opened the umbrella, and ran towards Komaeda.
“Nagito! You’re soaked! Hurry, let’s go inside.” You quickly dragged Komaeda inside the room in panic. You made him sit on your bed, not caring if it got wet, and gave him clothes to wear. You looked away and found a blanket while he changed.
Once he was done, you gave him the blanket, which he gratefully took, and wrapped it around himself. While you were placing the wet clothes somewhere, Komaeda said. “Why are you protective? I don’t mind but I don’t deserve it.”
“I don’t want you to get hurt, Nagito. I wouldn’t want you to just.. I love you alright? You worry me sometimes.”
Komaeda softly smiled. He started to stand up but you stopped him before he did. “Sit down. I’ll take care of you.” You took a bath towel and began drying his hair with it. “I love you too, Y/n.”
Your heart fluttered. ‘You’ll be the death of me if you continue being cute! Not like I hate it though...’ You smiled. “Oh. I almost forgot. Here.” Komaeda moved and grabbed a bag and gave it to you. You took it and opened the bag. Inside contained your favorite snacks and drinks.
Your smile widened as you tackled Komaeda to the floor. “Thank you!” You began kissing all over his face. He smiled as he relished the moment. Every time he was near you, he felt bad. He felt like he was inferior. But every time you show your affection, his worries always goes away. He felt safe with you.
Your moment was immediately interrupted when Komaeda sneezed. You gasped, carrying Komaeda to the bed. You went around the room to get anything you needed for Komaeda, medicine, water, etc. Then gave it to Komaeda.
“You could’ve hid under a roof and waited there till the rain ended y’know?” You told him. Komaeda looked at you and smiled. “I know. But I was near here. You saw me remember? Plus, I didn’t want you to starve.”
You looked at him lovingly then gave him a short but passionate kiss, to his dismay and relief.
“Thank you. Love.”
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
Bonus:
[Warnings: Komaeda getting tied up by Kazuichi and Nekumaru(This is before the killing game starts- just saying.), mentions of bruises, ]
You were walking around the island without Komaeda. You wanted to hang out with Komaeda but he wasn’t in his dorm. “Where could he be?” You murmured, slightly confused and worried. Is he alright?
You saw Kazuichi walking from the Rocketpunch market with a rope in hand. “Kazuichi!” You called, hoping that he knew where Komaeda was. Kazuichi jumped at someone calling him, clearly surprised. When he noticed you, he immediately put the rope behind his back. “O-oh hey Y/n! Didn’t see you there. Heh. Oh hey, Where’s Komaeda?”
“That’s what I was going to ask you... So you didn’t see him either?” Your smile faltered. “A-ah.. I-I think he might be in the... Uh.. His room! Yeah! Did you check?”
“I did. But he wasn’t there.” You sulked.
“No need to sulk Y/n! He might be somewhere on the island that you haven’t seen yet. The island is huge after all.” That seemed to make you determined again. You nodded then bit him goodbye.
A few minutes had passed when you finally went to the last place you haven’t gone yet, The hotel’s old building. As you went into the dining room, or what you think it is. It was pretty dark, you went near the wall and began finding the light switch. Internally celebrating when you finally found it then flipping it on.
“Oh, you guys are back already- Huh?”
You turned to the source of the sound and gasped. It was-
“Nagito!”
You kneeled in front of him and began untying him from the rope. “Are you alright? What happened? Who did this?” You began asking him questions while checking if he had injuries, to your distress, there were bruises..
“I’m fine, Y/n. Thank you for finding me. I thought I would be here for a while.” He smiled as he took the now loose rope around him and tossed it somewhere. “Who did this to you?” You asked sternly, your face filled with anger.
Komaeda was taken aback by your behaviour. “A-ah. W-well..” He stuttered. “Who did this? Tell me Nagito.”
Komaeda went silent, staring at you innocently and worryingly. You noticed then began taking deep breaths to calm yourself down.
“Ah sorry.. I’m just angry that someone would do this to you.” You apologized.
“Don’t worry, Y/n. It happens sometimes.”
“No it doesn’t.. Rarely. Now please tell me who did this to you.”
“It was Kazuichi and Nekomaru-”
“So it was them huh?” Your face darkened once more. You rounded up your fists when you remembered that Kazuichi was holding a rope earlier. “Y/n. Try to control your anger. Calm down..” Komaeda tried to help you calm down.
“Why? Why did they do this to you? I know you didn’t do anything right?” You asked him, wanting comfort and affirmation from Komaeda. You cupped his face and caressed his cheek while you waited for his answer.
He told you his opinion and that you shouldn't take everything he said seriously because he might be incorrect. Komaeda kissed you then pulled away a minute after. You both rested your forehead against each other as you stared at his eyes, not looking away.
“Thank you, My angel. I don’t know what I could do without you.” Komaeda said.
You sent him a small smile and murmured to his ear “I’ll always be by your side.”.
You then backed away and stood up, giving Komaeda a hand. “Now, let’s treat your bruises now alright?” Komaeda nodded, then took your hand to stand up. He yelped when you carried him bridal style. “Are you alright?” Komaeda nodded again. “Okay, hold on tight. I wouldn’t want you to fall.”
He rested his head on your chest and smiled as he slowly drifted off to sleep. You smiled as you glanced at him.
“Good night Nagito.” You murmured.
♡ prompt: "falling in love with her wasn't apart of my plan but I'm not mad if it happens."
♡ pairing: leo valdez x latina, fem! reader
♡ note: not checked for grammar or spelling mistakes / my schedule is going to become more sporadic starting this week :/ but also, writing for Leo is my ultimate favorite thing to do bc I'M MEXICAN AND SO IS HE AND I JUST GET TO UNLEASH ALL MY MEXICANESS INTO ONE FANFIC.
being the daughter of Nemesis, it wasn't unusual to see you messing with the Hermes cabin....a lot. your partners in crime were the Stoll brothers. all the meanwhile, everyone who saw the three of you together knew to book it. it usually meant that all of you pulled a prank and they were terrified to know which cabin it was that got shit end of the stick.
it was usually ended up being the Demeter kids considering they were so easy to prank. you swore that Demeter was going to bite you in the ass one day for how much you messed with her kids but you couldn't lie, they were so easily prankable that it was hard not to do it.
"I'M GOING TO HURT YOU!" you heard someone scream as you and the Stoll brothers ran away from the cabin. the three of you booked it until you saw them stop and ultimately give up, "NO YOU WON'T!" you yelled back jokingly before you accidentally ran into someone.
you heard the chuckles of Travis and Connor as you looked up, "sorry Leo, didn't see you there," you murmured. he gave you his hand, helping you up as Travis and Connor started mocking you, "it's okay but be careful! wouldn't want your beautiful face to get all messed up," your eyes widened, right alongside's Travis who started going into hysterics.
"thanks Leo, at least someone knows how to treat a woman," you poked back to Travis who immediately stood quiet. Leo laughed, "no problem but here, you got some grease on your cheek," he said, seeing the slash of it on your face. he pulled his sleeve out a bit and tried wiping it off, "uh, you kinda made it worse," Connor inquired.
Travis smacked his brother, sensing that this was not the time to make a joke. he quickly dragged himself along with Connor away as you got left with Leo, "I still think you look pretty," he tried to rationalize. he knew the story behind you and knew if you managed to take what he did the wrong way, he would be at the receiving end of a prank and no one ever wanted to be involved in a prank that had your name attached with Travis and Connor.
"have a mirror in your bunker? don't really feel like walking all the way to my cabin to clean it off," you admitted. Leo nodded excitedly, practically grabbing your hand and dragging you away, "course I do. gotta see this perfect face somehow," you giggled at his comment making Leo proud that he wasn't scaring you off yet.
the bunker from where you were originally wasn't too far but when you stepped in, you couldn't help but stand at the doorway, stunned at the organized mess he had inside. "you build a lot, don't you?" you asked. Leo saw the way stared mesmerized at the unfinished project, "yeah, half of these aren't done yet and I haven't even started on those yet but that's what happen when you're the son of Hephaestus," he groaned.
you saw the mirror that was on the wall and wiped it away with a clean rag. as you finished up, you heard music playing lowly throughout the bunker.
"is that....Banda MS?" you asked, whipping your head around to get a clear answer. Leo and you both stared at each other in complete shock, "NO WAY!" you both screamed. you immediately felt a tug at Leo, getting some sense of familiarity from him, "my dad used to blast this song all the time as a kid!" you exclaimed happily.
Leo didn't respond as he was still too much in shock to process what was going on. he hadn't met anyone who ever recognized the music he listened to when he worked. it's one of the memories he had with his mom was that she blared this music when they used to work on things together, "my mom did too," he replied. you found the tiny remote and turned it up as you sat in shock.
"sorry but I really haven't heard this music play in years, it brings back so many memories of my dad," you confessed, "holy Hera I might start crying," you laughed, trying not to cry in the process.
"Me gustas, te gusto, pa qué nos hacemos? te llevo la banda y nos amanecemos. seré detallista, me encantas la neta, te lleno de rosas mis dos camionetas. no es por presumir, pero soy buena opción, bonita pareja haríamos tú y yo, Piénsalo."
you sang out the lyrics right alongside Leo as the two of you immediately felt in your own little world. Jason, who was passing by Bunker Nine with Piper, poked his head in when he heard Leo's singing voice.
"no way," he whispered to Piper who managed to jump over her boyfriend to poke her head inside, "a girl is in his bunker? holy Hera," she murmured to him as Jason stared at his best friend in pride. Jason knew if anyone deserved a girlfriend, it was Leo. despite the front Leo put up constantly, he knew Leo craved love from a significant other so to see you inside of the bunker, not only singing to music in Spanish but to actually understand Leo from a side no one else could made Jason proud of him.
"I have a bunch of music on my iPod I always play in my cabin since Damien is hardly inside, it doesn't really bother anyone," you mentioned as you took it out. Leo quickly put the iPod on the adapter and played the first song which happened to be 'Se Amerita' by Junior H, "I usually played it around Jason and the others but they didn't really understand so it didn't really bother them."
you heard your name being yelled by Travis from across the camp making you sigh. Leo felt himself deflate, realizing that you were leaving, "talk to ya later? I'm pretty sure one of those got caught in a prank and are going to use me as an escape tactic," you murmured, jumping off of the stool.
"bye Amor!" you turned around, not expecting the nickname so suddenly, "goodbye Valdez," you replied, giving him a wink.
you walked out of his bunker, not noticing Jason or Piper who were hiding on the side as you sped off to Travis. Jason and Piper walked in, giving Leo the biggest shit eating grin they had ever had on their faces, "well, well, well, what was that?" Piper asked, "flirting it up with the daughter of Nemesis are we?" Jason added on.
"shut up, it wasn't even-," Leo looked to Jason who immediately told him to cut the shit, "falling in love with her wasn't apart of my plan but I'm not mad if it happens," he confessed, slamming the tool on the table and running his hands through his brown hair.
Piper couldn't believe her ears. Leo had said he had fallen in love multiple times over multiple women he had met but this one felt real. it felt almost raw.
"you didn't tell her that, did you?" Jason asked, now in a kind of panic. Leo shook his head no, "okay good but honestly, it's really surprising. everyone in the camp kind of assume her and Travis had a thing considering how much time they spend with each other," Piper said out loud.
bingo.
that was the thing that was throwing Leo off. he saw the way you acted around Travis. it wasn't the way you were around Connor. you seemed really close to Travis. the two of you were secretive with each other. just know, he heard Travis calling for you and although you were reluctant to go, he felt some kind of competition with the older Stoll brother.
"no, I don't think they see each other that way, they have more of a sibling relationship if I have to be honest," thank you Jason for being the voice of reason, Leo thought. he stood up and stretched himself, "well, if the Gods want us together then so be it but if they don't...I'm going to make em," he joked.
the following morning was thankfully a Saturday. no training was mandatory and it gave everyone a chance to sleep in. Leo tended to be a late sleeper on these days but as he was getting up to go to the mess hall, he heard your laughs from the campfire area. you were sitting with Travis, looking at a notebook with something written inside it as Travis let out another laugh.
Leo felt himself getting slightly jealous as he went for his late morning snack. you had given a bright smile, one that made him melt on the inside, and a wave before going back to talking to Travis. he hadn't seen Connor around so he figured that it was just the two of you which didn't make his jealousy dim down any less.
you had ditched the plans of pranking the Ares cabin with Travis as he wiggled his eyebrows, joking that you were replacing him with Leo.
"hey Leo, what're you up to?" you asked, scaring him a bit. he shrugged, showing you the snacks in his hands, "late sleeper, huh?" you asked. you could sense the slightly different mood Leo was in, in comparison to yesterday, "well, if you need any help with anything, I'll be free all day," you mentioned, hoping he'd invite you to maybe help him in some kind of project.
Leo nodded, not saying anything back before heading back to his bunker. he didn't know if it was just his heart playing with him but the way you were around Travis made him irrationally angry. it was as if only he could be that way around you. Leo knew one of his downsides as a person was being extremely clingy and having a bit too much faith in someone but he was hoping that if he placed all his marbles into a bowl that maybe you'd reciprocate the feelings he got for you just as quickly as he did.
"what're you doing in here trapped?" Jason asked, a little later in the day. Leo continued working on his useless project as he didn't respond, "dude, are you listening? I would think you'd be with ( your name ), trying to ask her out and all," Jason reiterated.
Leo slammed his nail gun down on the table, frightening Jason.
"I saw her with Travis earlier, giggling and laughing with him so I figured that maybe Piper was right and that they like each other," he admitted, frustration evident in his voice, "gods you're in idiot," Jason screamed to Leo as it was Leo's turn to be left in confusion.
Jason sat down on the wooden chair in annoyance.
"( your name ) is currently by herself by lake and you're in here moping around because of a scenario you made in your head?" he practically yelled. Leo was about to speak up when Jason cut him off again, "I told you already, she is like Travis' sister! what're you not getting? I heard what she told you this morning and now she's alone when she could be in here with you!" he yelled, shaking Leo's shoulders.
Leo took a step back, letting what Jason was telling him sink in. once it finally processed, he put his tool down and took his belt off, "think she'll be down for me to join her?" Leo asked him. Jason nodded yes, "go to her you idiot! it's about time you found your soulmate and you're about to ruin it!"
Jason remained in the cabin as Leo quickly walked out. he went to the place where Jason had told him you were currently at and thankfully, you were still there. you were poking the water with a stick before chucking a large rock inside of it. something Percy probably would've yelled at you for.
"what're you doing here alone?" he asked, walking up behind you. you instantly perked up, "I'm bored and didn't really have anything to do today so I usually go to the lake to throw rocks," you replied as Leo got comfortable next to you, "I thought you'd be working on some project right now."
Leo shook his head, "figured you'd probably want to help me start a new project. I don't know how great the daughters of Nemesis are at building things but I can imagine someone as gorgeous and smart as you can be of help," he flirted as he noticed the flustered reaction.
"me vas a matar estupido," you joked, pushing him playfully. Leo shook his head, "how can I kill me reina? it would be really stupid of me." you didn't bother to reply as you let out a flustered laugh.
Leo took in the situation as you grew quiet. the slight Long Island breeze made your hair get pushed back as Leo thanked his lucky stars. Leo knew he went through hell and back. literally. and maybe it was finally time he got what he deserved in return.
never did he think he would be at the receiving end of good karma. his life until recently had put him through trials and tribulations that he didn't think he'd make it out of but thankfully, he did and when he did, he figured that's when the God's placed you in his life. the gorgeous daughter of Nemesis.
"well, let's get crackin' partner," you said getting up. Leo nodded, grabbing your wrist and practically dragging you away to his bunker, "whatever you say reina," he replied, finding comfort in the nickname he gave you.
God Im Sorry (A tapeworm clef fanfic)
Before we begin. This is all for jokes. I am so sorry for anyone who has to read this. Its also just a draft and will be complete at some point. For now enjoy what little I give you.
You find yourself resting on the couch of your dearly beloveds bed quarters. You scroll through your phone looking fondly at old text messages of when you and your husband to be's first text messages. All the ridiculous nicknames you two exchanged, all the flirting, photos, and various other things you two have sent to each other over the years. You couldn't help but giggle. You find it hard to believe this all started cause you decided to help some weird blonde guy with a ukulele out with his broken leg.
You two have been dating for almost 8 years and two months ago, the man, Dr. Alto Clef. He took you on a date. Just a nice simple stroll around the woods, which ended in a nice picnic by a river. In which you saw the man you have fallen head over heels for, get down on one knee and began plucking at the strings of his ukulele. Singing a sweet melody like a song bird in the spring, before pulling out a wedding ring and asking those simple words of "will you marry me". Your heart flutters with glee as you chuckle. You feel giddy and so over joyed with happiness. Right as your giggle fit calmed down you heard the front door open, and there stood your beloved. With a wide grin on his face as he held some folders in his hands. He had a doctors appointment that day since he had been feeling strange. With his face showing his usual bright beaming smile and his three beautiful eyes showing their usual mischievous gleam, it was clear that he was in more than perfect shape.
"Heya there pumpkin. I'm home. And I've got some great news." He spoke in a raspy slightly southern voice. At first it was grating on ya, but now its like all your favorite songs combine into one incredible tune. "Welcome home sweetheart!" You chirped as you ran up to your beloved teddy bear to give him a quick peck to the lips as you hugged him close, "What's the good news teddy? I can tell from that big dumb grin of yours ya got somethin real good to tell me. What did the doctor say?" You said as you affectionately pinched his cheeks causing him to laugh as he took both your hands to hold. "Well besides me being fit as a bull. Looks like I'm gonna be eating for two from now on."
You blinked and tilted your head in confusion, slowly processing the information as you stepped back a lil. "How? Babe I never top and we always use protection. Who-" "Oh no pumpkin. I ain't pregnant" He interrupted, chuckling as he ruffled your hair. "I got a tape worm. The doc took some sonograms of my stomach to see if there were any issues and yeah, there's a lil fella in there. Look." The blonde handed you the folder, which you opened and began reading through and your face turned pale at the sight of the tape worm in the photo of an ultra sound. You gagged a lil as you shoved the folder back into clefs arm. "Babe that's not okay!!!! That's a parasite!!!! Its gonna just keep reproducing and shit and its gonna fuck up your insides." You said quite loudly, usually you were quiet but this, this was making you quite distressed. Your fiancés face turned from a smile to a disappointed frown "I thought you would've liked clef junior....".
You stood baffled at the situation before you. Your dearly beloved, just, accepting and seeming to be happy about the fact he has a god damn TAPE WORM living inside of him. You've seen some shit in your days working for the foundation. A sheet of music that makes people go bonkers and try to bleed, Kondraki -clefs ex- ridding on god damn 682, and other shit that would boggle anyone's mind. But this. THIS RIGHT HERE. Just.... Leaves you speechless. "Pumpkin?" the third eyed man spoke in a concerned tone, which rarely came from him. "Are you okay?" You held your head in your hands as you sat back down on the plush couch and just took a deep breathe, and just as quickly as you sat down you sprung back up, grabbing your jacket and zipping it up. "Babe.... I just.... I need a moment.... I'll be out for awhile.... This is just, strange even for you and I need a moment to think about this." You sped walk past your -potentially ex- husband to be to the door. You shut the door, seeing Clef's face look uncharacteristically sad at you. It hurt you a little to leave your teddy bear like that, but you still needed time to just, think and process this whole situation.
You leave the housing area for researchers and quickly the site as well. You hail a cab and as soon as you enter the bright yellow vehicle you tell the faceless driver to "Take me to the nearest motel." Which he happily complied especially with the hefty tip you gave him. You just, Needed awhile to think and god knows how long that could be so you may as well rent out a room away from that hell site foundation to have a clear mind. After all who knows what might happen. Fucking Dr. Bright could tell you to give it a chance and raise the worm together with your teddy bear or some shit. You never know with this job and the people you worked with. While in your thoughts you rented out a room, room 105. Great another reminder of your hell job, even though it was just the simple numbers of 0 and 5 you can't help but be reminded of your faceless higher ups and the fact you work for them.
You found your room and quickly made your way inside to flop down on the bed, beforehand making sure to put up the "Do not disturb" sign and locking it. You burried your face into the hard cheap pillows of this motel, missing the one you had back at your place with its soft textures and the scent of your beloved.... Which once again brought you back to the worm. That fucking worm. Why the hell was your husband so keen on keeping it? He's at least some form of scientist he should know that tape worms are a dangerous parasite that affect your health. You stare up at the popcorn ceiling just, trying to wrap your head around WHY. Why would your partner; your future husband; the one who knows everything about you and you know everything about them.... just why are they keeping the tape worm?
You of course knew the stuff your teddy was known for, sleeping with that statue after a date, killing a dangerous reality bending child, father to 166 (who you were honestly happy to take in as your new step daughter). Out of everything. The tape worm makes you break. Makes you rethink your relationship with the man you've been dating for years at this point. All you can do at this moment is sigh, hearing the phone in your coat pocket buzz. You pull it out and set it to "do not disturb" as you set the device aside on a night stand. "Maybe I should sleep it off. Maybe I'll have a clearer mind then...." You say to yourself as you threw your coat off and roll onto your side. Feeling uncomfortable in your current clothes but you didn't pack a bag so, you just ignore the discomfort until eventually.... You drift off to sleep. The shallow hum of power surging through the building and the busy city outside envelop you as you feel unconsciousness take over.
While in your state of unconsciousness you hear a silky smooth, deep yet gentle voice speak to  you. "Y/N... Y/N its time to wake up Y/N". You slowly awoke, opening your groggy eyes, what laid before you, you didn't know. They had a handsome chiseled face, comparable to the statues found in ancient Greece with even a similar tone of white marble. They had thick luxurious hair that went down to their waste, rippling muscles that went down both torso and back.... They were ungodly white though. And didn't have legs. You stared at the bottom half and slowly processed what you were looking at..... A fucking tapeworm man. A fucking humanoid tape worm what the fuck. "Im going back to bed" You said as you laid on your side, and tried to ignore the hallucination.
The tapeworm creature, slid over you just to get to the side you were facing. You shivered feeling it’s disgusting body wiggle about. You close your eyes tightly as you did your best to ignore it. You could feel yourself holding back even more shivers as you felt their cold hands touch your face. “Y/n…. Look at me…. I just want to talk.” “And I just want to be left alone and not think about tapeworm men trying to seduce me while I’m contemplating breaking up my engagement.”
miles apart [levi ackerman x reader]
Tumblr media
synopsis: “you’re going to die,” “i know,” “you’re dying,” “i know, levi, i’m sorry,”
warnings ⚠️: major character death(s), SPOILERS up to season three, slight suggestive themes (its brief!!), brief description of gore
word count: 3.8k
author’s note: no, because,,, this was my first levi fanfic, and i’m immensely proud of it ‼️ if we ignore the “suggestive” part 😩😩 anyway, have fun reading, lovebugs <33
PART TWO: once more
Tumblr media
whatever just happened, had happened too fast, and now both you and levi were laying side by side, miles apart from everyone else and the chaos that caused this whole mess in the first place.
you’re both injured bad from the war, and the stench of blood, both humans and titans alike, lays thick in the air. you find yourself nearly suffocating in it as you cough up what seems to be more blood, it’s metallic taste coating your lips and tongue in red.
you can barely feel your arms and legs, and you’re pretty sure they’re either broken or torn off from the fight. you pull your heavy lids open and stare blearily at the night sky, how many hours had passed since you two had been laying here like this?
you turn your head slowly, hearing the multiple cracks your joints made in the effort as your eyes trailed to levi’s face. he’s still in the same position, facing the sky with empty, soulless eyes. you reckon he was pondering something, how long were we gonna stay here? when will someone arrive to help us?
“levi?” you croak out, and he lets out a little rumble of acknowledgement. “are you okay?” what a stupid question... with how levi is, he definitely isn’t, but he was sure to make it seem like he was. he nods to the best of his ability, though he isn’t faring much better than you. gashes that gush with blood cut across his body in what seems to be parallel and equal in length, claws, of some sort, you assume. “good,” you whisper so softly that he almost doesn’t catch the murmured word.
your life seems to be flashing before your eyes quite slowly for the amount of time you’ve spent here bleeding out beside the man.
you recall the first time you caught him off guard.
Tumblr media
it was a complete accident. as a member of levi’s squadron, you worked under him as a subordinate and did as he said, after all, he had chosen you to be on his team, and you put as much trust in him as he did in you.
you were bringing him some tea after you had dropped off a huge stack of paperwork in his office. you knew he needed it, after all, it had only been a few days after your most recent expedition and paperwork was a bore if you ever knew one.
a simple teapot and cup of black tea rested on the tray in your hands as you made your way from the kitchen to his office, acknowledging a few cadets that would respectfully greet you before going on their way. when you had finally made it to his door, you knocked gently before waiting for his usual question of your name and reason for entering.
a few seconds, maybe minutes passed, and you were beginning to think he wasn’t even there, but you hadn’t want the tea to go to waste, so you hesitantly pushed the door open with your foot, entering the sparkling clean room with tray in hand.
“captain levi?” you nearly bit your tongue (oluo would have laughed in your face if you did before biting down on his own) and froze with your head peeking inside the room at the sight of the man leaning his head against the back of his chair, his eyes closed and his usual frown wiped off his face.
it had you in a wonder, surprised that even humanity’s strongest (and grouchiest) soldier could have a face as calm as the one on his as he slept. you stepped as quietly as you could toward his desk, setting the tea down with care before you nearly jumped out of your skin when a hand wrapped around your wrist.
your eyes traveled up the scarred and rough hand, up the toned arm, and looked straight into narrowed grey eyes. “what are you doing here?”
“got you tea, captain,” your nerves were calm now, and you spoke with a grin, “thought you would need it with all the paperwork commander tosses at you,”
levi’s hand lingered on your wrist a little longer before he pulled away and carried the steaming cup to his lips in his strange cup hold that you’ve tried to mimic yet still can’t get right. he drank a little, his face ever so stoic. “tastes like shit, brat,” he said, though he made no move to drop the cup back into the tray and continued to sip away at the red orange liquid.
“thought you’d say that,” you turned to leave after saluting him, your hand wrapping around the doorknob before a mischievous impulse lit in you once more, “you know, captain,” he didn’t even glance up from the papers on his desk. “you look cute when you’re sleeping,” his gaze snapped up at that, and he was about to chew you out for making the comment, but to his dismay, you were already gone, having gotten the amusing response from him that you wanted.
there were many times after that where you’d make a little comment here and there, only to get an icy glare and a click of the tongue from levi, which wasn’t a problem to you at all, if anything, you found it the best part. the way he’d scowl at you and turn away, only to let you get away with it the very next day. it was like a little game the two of you would play, and you were winning if eye rolls, embarrassed blushes hidden behind callused hands, and, “tch,”’s counted as prizes.
you would’ve never thought he’d bite back, especially this far into the game.
“captain levi~!” you drew out his name with a little hop in your step. he didn’t stop walking, if anything, his pace sped up as he tried to leave you in the hallway. “captain!” you groaned childishly and ran after him. he turned the corner and into his office, leaving the door ajar. you grinned, it seemed he knew well enough you wouldn’t stop for a closed door. you opened it as soon as your hand touched the cool wood, and sang out, “levi~” you saw him standing by his desk and looking down at the papers that littered it. “i’ve got another joke for you—”
“—if you keep this up, i might actually get angry,” you halted in your tracks and clamped your mouth shut, angry? oh no, you weren’t trying to make him angry, only annoy him if anything. you knew, everyone knew to not get on levi’s bad side, and after seeing the man kick the titan shifter boy from the 104th cadets merciless, it’d be terribly stupid of you to try and anger him.
he dragged his fingertips across the tabletop and looked up through hooded eyes, “might even punish you,” you were stuck in a stupor at his words and how they obviously had implications for something else.
“but i guess you’d like that, hm? i wouldn’t want give you that satisfaction,” he seemed pleased with the way your cheeks flamed up and your jaw stayed dropped in shock. after he grabbed whatever he needed from his desk, he walked by you with a sly quirk of his lips, dragging a hand up to close your agape mouth. “close the door after you leave,” he called out before he disappeared out the door and down the hall.
-
from there on, your relationship had changed drastically. this game now had two players, and that new addition was the original target of the game himself. the teasing and playful jokes continued on for days, weeks, and you were having so much fun that you barely realized how much some people were noticing, including a certain bespectacled one.
“hey, hange!” you plopped next to them as you watched them fiddle with a little gadget. “what’s this?” you eyed curiously as hange laughed.
“my new creation! i’m trying to make something erwin asked for to help with his arm. you nodded, understanding immediately. the commander had lost his arm when the scouts went to save eren from a kidnapping. there was a few moments of silence before hange asked, “so… you and levi?”
you opened your mouth to retort but they beat you to it, “don’t deny it! even eren can tell, and he’s as dense as a rock!” you cowered from their accusing finger before huffing out a sigh.
“you know it doesn’t work like that, hange,” the mood dampened with your honest but hurtful words. you were right, it didn’t. with a world of titans and destruction, war like this, there would never be a second of peace, of life, of freedom. you could be alive and happy one day and then die and suddenly gone forever the next. and with levi being an ackerman, he was bound to survive longer than you, you just didn’t want to cause him more unnecessary pain.
hange hummed under their breath, “you’re right, but if it were me, i’d rather die knowing i had the chance and took it, than die letting it slip between my fingers,” they continued to tinker with the gadget as you pondered quietly on their words. they were right, but so were you, and now it was just up to the risk both sides were willing to take. what would happen if you ever confessed these buried feelings of yours to your terribly stoic captain?
-
in the end, you never said anything, at all. the two of you stayed at this sort of flirting and joking around type state. it was comfortable, you concluded, though you had to be honest, there were a few close calls where you felt you blushed too much, said too much, or gasped a little too loud when his touch lingered on you for too long.
you hadn’t said a word about your feelings for the man, and neither did he.
-
levi didn’t know when his heart had decided to let you in.
it was probably after erwin had passed away on a roof of a building with a gaping hole in his side that colored his cape and the white bandages around his abdomen red.
he brought his body back for a proper burial, but even then, levi couldn’t cry, nor let a single tear slip down his cheek. for a few weeks, even if he seemed put together, there was a heavy feeling that resided in his chest. no matter if he tried to sleep it away or drown himself in paperwork, it never left him.
it had been a rough night. there were complications with the imports from a faraway town in sina, and while hange was busy with things as the newly appointed commander, levi had to deal with the papers that came with the conflict.
he didn’t know how long he had been sitting before the fireplace in the mess hall, scratching away at the parchment under the warmth of the flickering fire that casted a warm orange hue around the room.
he clicked his tongue as another wave of aches hit his head before rubbing at his temples. erwin would’ve been better at handling this shit… his brow furrowed at his thoughts, you know better than that, there’s no bringing him back, you made the choice, levi.
levi didn’t regret his choice, but he had guessed the heavy presence of death had just stuck with him a little tighter this time around. it was fine, it would pass, at least, that was what he told himself.
during his turmoil, you had entered the mess hall as quietly as you could, “captain levi?” he looked up from the papers and pulled his hand away from his face with a quirked brow. “i brought you tea,” you spoke softly as to not agitate him any further. “i hope it tastes better than last time, i practiced,” you sent him a lopsided smile that you hoped would ease his frown, but instead, it brought the opposite.
the lines on his face became deeper as he scowled, “i don’t have time right now,” and the grumble of your name right after sounded harsh on both yours and even his ears. it was now your turn to pout. you definitely weren’t trying to mess around with him right now, not with all the stress and the recent death of one of his closest friends.
you sat there across from him at the table in silence for a few moments as he penned the paper. what could make him feel better? you thought quietly to yourself, your eyes raking over levi in search of something, any indicator to help him. a sudden idea popped in your head as you stood, making your way to stand behind him as you watched his eyes never leave the documents. “what are you doing?”
you reached over and plucked the pen from his hand, placing it down on the table and ignoring his glare, “just relax, levi, i’m gonna try and sort out these tense ass muscles of yours,” as soon as the words popped out of your mouth, your hands began to press into his shoulders, eliciting a little sound of surprise from levi. he almost immediately tensed back up at the foreign feeling but relaxed to the best of his abilities after a few pointed words from you.
“i’m not just here to get you tea, you know?” you worked out a knot in his neck, watching as his head lolled to the side to give you more room to work. “i had the same training as you, and i know how to handle paperwork, you could always ask if you need the help,” he hummed at your offer, and you only chuckled before getting back to his tense muscles.
levi let himself relax, more so than he probably ever had. your hands made their way up the base of his neck, and he let out a little sigh. he didn’t think this would feel this good, and he was considering what he could do to pay you back before realizing. what was the need to? you were doing the work of a subordinate for a superior, there was no need for him to treat you to anything.
but there was something that made levi realize that it wasn’t true, no matter how much every fiber in his body wanted to reject the idea. you were different, in your own weird way, and he couldn’t place his finger on it yet, but he decided he’d find out along the way.
“alright, you can work with me starting tomorrow, meet me here after dinner. if you’re late, i’m not letting you help again,” you smiled victoriously and pat his shoulders to signify you were done massaging them.
“alright then! see you tomorrow, captain,” you saluted him and shuffled out of the mess hall to leave him to his work.
the man held back a chuckle, sipping on the now lukewarm tea by his side. he had to admit, you were getting better at brewing his favorite drink.
levi’s heart felt a little lighter that night.
-
the two of you were almost impossibly closer after that. early mornings were spent with hange at important meetings and gatherings, most of the days were spent listening to hange rant about titans and ridiculous (but hilarious) and sometimes even useful plans, and late nights would be spent on paperwork and idle chatter by the warm fireplace in the mess hall.
the two of you would talk about nothing and everything, sometimes levi letting you talk his ear off as he added comments here and there or choosing to bask in each other’s silence as the flames beside you two crackled.
there were nights you fell asleep at the table, only to wake up in the middle of the night with a blanket that looked suspiciously like the one levi refused to share with you the night before around your shoulders that smelled of fresh laundry and lemons.
-
levi remembered all these little moments, including the time he had to yank a paper from under your arm to save it from your impending drool, or the multiple times he draped his cotton blanket over you and pulled it around your shoulders, his hands hesitating to pick off the dust that had resided on your cheek before gently brushing it off you and holding his breath when you’d twitch or move from his touch.
he still couldn’t really understand how it happened really, but spending time with you made him realize how much he liked the way you smiled at him no matter how annoyed he was with you, and the way you talked to him like he wasn’t humanity’s strongest soldier.
he felt normal, and strangely free.
and for some reason, he felt that if you ever disappeared from his sight, he’d lose this light feeling in his chest that outshined the bitter emotions he was always burdened with.
he didn’t want to lose you.
Tumblr media
levi huffs, trying to control his unsteady breathing. there’s a feeling of discomfort that settles in his chest, and he’s not sure if it’s from just the cuts and bruises he obtained from the crash. you’re treating him like he’s fragile, like glass, and he hates it, sure, he’s broken, even he knows that, but he hates it.
humanity’s strongest soldier… he scoffs internally at himself, well, he feels pretty pathetic at the moment. he then outwardly scowls, gripping onto the pants of his torn uniform.
“you’re going to die,” he doesn’t mean for his words to sound so sharp, and he’s sure that his tone hurts you more than the gashes that litter your torso.
“i know,” he’s right, it hurts, and they seem to cut deeper than your wounds, as if someone struck your heart with a knife and twisted the blade.
his voice nearly breaks when he says this, but he stays... strong, “you’re dying,”
“i know, levi. i’m sorry,”
you know this man has been through so much, too much. he lost too many, has seen too much, he’s been through so many tragedies, and you still haven’t seen him cry, not once, and not now as you lay beside him, shivering and keeping your eyes open enough to watch him glare up at the night sky.
one last attempt, you think to yourself. you need to get his attention before it’s too late, before you fade away and disappear, but you can already feel your conscious slipping through your fingertips and your eyes drooping.
“levi…” your voice sounds pained when he stays turnt away from you and looks up at the moon, “i’m proud of you,” levi’s heart squeezes and so does his eyes, he doesn’t want to hear your soft voice right now, nor look at your mangled body, or hear the shouts of soldiers swinging around on their odm gear or the battle cries as they slice into titans’ napes.
you bite back a cry at his act of ignorance to your pleas for him to just look at you, and fall silent as your energy drains along with the blood that comes from you and him and soak into the earth. you meant those words, you mean what you said, and you beg him with your eyes focused on his high cheekbones to just spare you a glance while his stay glued to the twinkling stars.
it becomes so quiet, that levi begins to think you’ve already kicked the bucket with how he can barely hear your breathing.
he’s already preparing himself to do what he usually does, steel himself against the terrible emotions of survivor’s guilt and sorrow. every time he feels the twinge of depression and desperation creep up and wrap itself around his heart, he escapes to his mind, the logical part of him. the part that keeps him miles apart from everything, distance, safety.
he does it so much that you know, and you can tell he’s doing it right now with how tense his brow is and how the nails of the hand which lays between you digs into his palm. he’s closing himself off again, even after all these years you’ve spent together as comrades, partners in crimes, and what you hope was as friends.
you try to distract yourself some more, with anything really, the way his hair, though covered in blood seems to flow seamlessly to the sides of his head, revealing his undercut, and his eyes that stare silently into the endless blue sky, or the familiar smell of citrus and fresh laundry that you get from him even with the layers of smoke that are wafting from the ongoing battle burning your lungs or the smell of blood still seeping out from the both of you.
you want to hold onto the lingering hope that he’ll turn to you and at least say one last goodbye, or say those unspoken feelings he’s always hidden behind cool grey eyes, but he doesn’t say a word.
time is running out, and you need to say this, say this before you leave him like everyone else. levi’s fingers twitch when he hears you take in a sudden breath, your voice coming out quiet, weak, frail.
“the moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?” levi’s eyes open, and his head snaps toward you, and he regrets it, so bad. he manages to catch the exact moment the light, the life, fades from your very eyes he always thought were so gorgeous.
he’s lost his light.
you’re gone.
levi feels this terrible grip on his heart that makes him lose his breath and his head pound worse than it already is, and he chokes on the blood that gushes from his lips. his hand reaches out to you weakly, his arms, losing their strength, and he barely has the energy to keep his eyes open.
he almost can’t bring himself to do it, but he leans forward to press a shaky and hesitant kiss on the top of your head that he hopes conveys all the unsaid confessions he could’ve showered you with before your passing. his lips are warm, while your body turns pale and blue, and he finds it ironic how someone as kind and bright as you now seems dull in comparison to him.
as unshed tears pool at the corners of his eyes, your lifeless ones bore into his for the last time before he pushes them close with a touch of his hands over your eyes.
his heart, it hurts so bad, more than it ever has, and no matter how much he tries to push down the lump in his throat or the burning of his eyes and heart, it persists. he slowly falls back into his previous position, your corpse beside him losing its warmth and his steel grey eyes facing the moon once more.
the fuzzy lines around the full moon start to blur as he blinks a few times, the hues of white mixing with the blue of the sky, “it is…”
and finally, he lets himself cry.
explanations
“the moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?”
this is a more poetic way to say “i love you” in japanese :D
“it is...”
this is essentially “i love you too” in reply to “the moon is beautiful, isn’t it?”
Life With You Makes Perfect Sense (You're My Best Friend)
TimKon Fanfic
Read on AO3 or Read my other works here
For context: this takes place during the time when Stephanie Brown was Robin after Tim's dad figured out his identity and made him retire. In the comics, Conner finds this out by coming to Gotham to look for Tim when he fails to show up at Titan's Tower and bumping into Robin Steph. Batman refuses to give Conner Tim's address but tells him that he has all the same skills Superman has to find him himself. Conner tracks down Tim's voice and confronts him in his bedroom. In the comics, he ends up leaving and doesn't appear to hear from Tim again until he comes back to the Robin role. This fic takes place as a sort of "what-if" to fill in that missing time.
I took the dialogue in italics from the first and last scenes directly from my copy of the TPB Teen Titans: Beast Boys & Girls (2005), though the body language that goes with the dialogue and everything else in the fic is mine.
Title comes from Tim McGraw's "My Best Friend"
Tim woke up clinging to the whisps of a dream that fled from the screeching of his alarm. As he blinked himself back to consciousness, he grasped vainly for the subject of the dream and was left feeling inexplicably wistful.
His fumbling fingers managed to silence the alarm, but there was still the unfortunate matter of having to heave himself out of bed, his limbs feeling heavier and more uncooperative than they had in weeks. Apparently, all the extra sleep he’d been getting since he retired still wasn’t enough to make Monday mornings suck any less.
He pushed away the traitorous voice in the back of his head that suggested that maybe his exhaustion had something to do with his conversation with Conner the other night.
Conner had shown up unannounced and asking questions Tim hadn’t expected to have to answer again. “Why didn’t you show at the tower yesterday? And what’s with this new Robin? The girl?”
“Last week…” Tim paused, trying to decide how best to make Conner understand. “My dad found my costume. He found out I was Robin, and he went a little—” Tim paused, unsure, “—overboard. I’ve been wanting to tell him for months anyway.”
Conner turned his head towards where he could hear Jack moving around, easily locking onto his vitals. “He seems totally relaxed now. His heart rate is normal and—”
Tim glanced back at Conner nervously, but still refused to look at him head on. “I quit.”
“You what?” Conner exclaimed.
“I’m not Robin anymore. I gave it up.”
“Why?” Conner couldn’t wrap his mind around what he was hearing.
Tim tried to explain, needing Conner to understand. His approval felt vital in that moment. “I never liked living two lives. I never planned on doing it for this long. And I never wanted to lie to my dad. Now I don’t have to anymore.”
Conner shook his head in denial. “Come on. You can’t do this to the Titans. That girl isn’t… She’s not Robin.”
Tim wanted to stop thinking about that night, but no matter how hard he tried he just couldn’t. The look on Conner’s face when Tim told him he wasn’t coming back to the Titans, how Conner refused to meet Tim’s eyes when he talked about how much he and the other Titans needed Tim, not just Robin. All of it. After all, what right did Conner have to come in and tell Tim how to live his life? Conner was born into this, he didn’t have a Before to compare the hero life to. He didn’t understand what it was like to be torn between two halves of himself.
At that thought, Tim paused about halfway through pulling on a shirt, and immediately felt guilty for even thinking it. Conner had just found out he was half Lex Luthor after all. He was probably the only person Tim knew who would understand exactly how Tim felt being stuck between his Dad and Bruce since the truth came out.
Tim pulled the shirt on the rest of the way with a mental sigh. He wasn’t really mad at Conner. Things had changed really quickly, and the other boy had made a lot of good points. As he ran through the rest of his morning routine, Tim’s mind continued its highlight reel.
“Let it go.”
“You’re my best friend, Tim. How can I? The Titans aren’t the Titans without Robin. They just aren’t.”
“Just because I’m not wearing a cape doesn’t mean we can’t hang.”
For the first time since Tim had explained his motivation, Conner finally met his eyes again. The resignation there made Tim’s throat tighten. “It won’t be the same. I’ve heard that from too many friends. Friends I never talk to anymore.”
And Conner wasn’t wrong. When was the last time he had talked to Cissie? Sure, he still got the occasional update on what she was up to from Cassie on Titans weekends, but that wasn’t the same. It was so easy to lose touch with people who left the hero game. Hell, he hadn’t even spoken to Dick since he quit, and they had supposedly been brothers.
Conner had every right to be worried. But what else was he supposed to do? There was nothing else he could have done to protect everyone’s identities, and it wasn’t like his Dad was about to let him go to group hangouts with a bunch of superteens.
Tim mulled it over as he mechanically choked down a bowl of cereal. His dad had been pretty adamant about the no contact thing, and Tim was trying to be the respectful son his dad deserved. But Conner wasn’t something Tim was willing to sacrifice for his new mission. Besides, what was the harm in just staying touch, it’s not like he was putting himself in danger.
Still, it was probably better safe than sorry. If he got his hands on a computer at school, it wouldn’t be hard to track down the Kents’ phone number. Then it was just a matter of waiting for Dad and Dana to be out long enough for him to have sole access to the landline.
Yeah, Tim thought as he threw his bowl and the sink and headed out to catch his bus, that would work. It would be enough. It had to. Tim just wished he didn’t feel like he was betraying his dad all over again.
-0-
If anyone could read his mind right now, they would be impressed by the amount of self-restraint Conner was exercising to control his strength as well as he was despite how frustrated he was. Unfortunately, poor Lottie the Cow could not read his mind, and, unlike Krypto, she wasn’t hiding any secret Kryptonian powers of her own.
After the third time he used just a tad too much pressure in his attempts to milk her and she shied away from him yet again, he had to concede defeat. As he swapped out with Pa (who was all too willing to pass off the stall mucking), Conner let himself feel the indignation he hadn’t been able to get out of his head since he spoke to Tim.
It just wasn’t right! Anyone with eyes could see how much Tim loved being Robin. Conner knew how much pride he took in being able to hold his own against some of the most powerful people on the planet. How Tim’s heartrate still sped up with excitement every time he swung off a building or when he flew with Conner.
His dad wanted him to be normal so bad? What was more normal than a teen managing to sneak out without their guardian knowing or taking their dad’s car out for a joyride with their friends. So what if the car was a Batmobile or if the adult he was sneaking past was a Tamaranean princess?
And the worst part was that he wasn’t even mad at Tim, not really. Sure, he had been pissed in the moment, but mostly he was just hurt. They had all finally gotten back to normal, and now Tim was leavingagain. It just wasn’t fair. Conner just wanted his best friend back, but every time they got over one hurdle another one showed up. And this was something Conner couldn’t punch.
“If you shovel any harder, you’re going to snap the end off again.”
Conner whirled around, barely managing not to break the poor tool in his surprise. Martha just raised an unimpressed eyebrow at him, a full basket of chicken eggs resting on her hip. “You want to tell me what’s eating you?”
Conner didn’t meet her eyes, just grabbed the now full bucket of manure to take it to the compost. “It’s nothing, Aunt Martha.”
Her brow wrinkled in concern, which was not what Conner had wanted at all. She took another moment, clearly choosing her words carefully. “Well… I know you don’t owe me your thoughts son, and I don’t pretend to know what it’s like to do what you and Clark do.” She started walking alongside Conner before continuing. “But I have raised one Kryptonian and I can listen with the best of them. So, if you need to get something off your chest…”
Dumping the bucket into the compost, Conner almost refused out of habit. Instead, he hesitated, casting his eyes to the side as he grasped for an answer. The sun was just beginning to peak over the horizon. “It’s kinda a long story…” the note of disappointment in his voice seemed to surprise both of them. Martha didn’t miss a step as she steered them back towards the house. She too glanced at the rising sun and then sent Conner an appraising look. “hmmm… School is important. It would be a shame if you had woken up ill this morning and couldn’t attend.”
Conner felt himself gaping like a fish as he followed her inside.
Tim was pretending not to notice Dana hovering when the doorbell rang.
And wasn’t that a fun situation. Tim wasn’t quite sure how much Dana knew. He knew his dad hadn’t told her about Robin, as per the arrangement. But he wasn’t sure what story she’d been given instead, or, more likely, if she’d just been left to draw her own conclusions.
Regardless, she clearly knew Tim had been hiding something because she had been acting strangely ever since. Making excuses to keep him in view, asking much more probing questions about his day and who he was spending it with, checking out parenting books on “troubled teens.”
She hadn’t said anything to Tim about whatever it was she thought was going on, but she had always been over-protective of Tim. Sure it could occasionally cross over into infantilizing, but, after a lifetime of people only worrying about Tim’s wellbeing when it affected them, it was kinda nice to have a parent care so openly.
Still, this was starting to get ridiculous. It wasn’t like he was running a drug empire from the kitchen table, and writing an English essay while someone keeps sneaking glances at you while cleaning the stovetop wasn’t exactly easy.
So, the doorbell was a welcome distraction.
While Dana rose to answer the door, Tim tried to focus back on his paper, as if he could make it write itself with the force of his glare. However, there was no amount of effort that would ever keep him from recognizing that voice.
He was at the door before he even realized he’d made the decision.
“—don’t know why he didn’t mention it, ma’am, we made these plans last week.”
“Well, I don’t know if I’m really comfortable with letting you boys go without clearing it with Jack fir—"
Tim peeked around Dana’s shoulder to see Conner Kent, glasses and all, staring up at his stepmom with an almost comically earnest expression. “Dana?”
She glanced back at Tim, not letting go of the half-open door. “Your friend—”
“Conner,” the boy in question supplied helpfully.
“Right,” she said with a forced smile, “Your friend, Conner, was just telling me that you two made plans to get together to study tonight? Tim, honey, you know your Dad wants you to let him know before you make plans to go out with people we don’t know.”
Tim did know. It was one of many new rules that his dad had decided to implement after he found his Robin gear. The restrictions chafed, but, as his dad pointed out, he definitely deserved the lack of trust at this point.
But when he caught the cocky “play along” grin over Dana’s shoulder, Tim stomach filled with warmth at the familiarity. He quickly schooled his expression into an appropriately sheepish smile. “Sorry Dana, I guess it just slipped my mind.”
Dana softened, her grip on the door slackening just a tad.
“If it helps, Mrs. Drake,” Conner broke in, “we can just study here.”
Tim wondered if Conner had learned the earnest and polite young man routine from watching Clark or if it was just natural talent. Either way it was enough for Dana, leading her to relax and open the door completely.
“Oh, that would be perfect! Tim, honey, why don’t you get you and your friend set up at the table? Will you be staying for dinner, Conner? We’re having Chinese tonight, and it’d be no problem to order an extra serving.”
“That would be great, Mrs. Drake!”
Dana headed back towards the kitchen, presumably looking for the takeout menus, leaving Tim and Conner in awkward silence. Tim decided to break the tension first.
“I’m sorry, Conner, I shouldn’t have snapped at you. I know you were just trying to help.”
“Wait, that’s supposed to be my line! I’m sorry, Tim. I didn’t mean to make it seem like I didn’t think you could make your own decisions.”
“So, still friends?”
“Please! You didn’t think I’d come all the way to Gotham to ditch you now, did you?”
“Why did you come? If that was it, why not just come in the window?”
Conner shifted his weight, hand tightening minutely around the strap of the backpack slung over his shoulder.
“Well, I was talking to Ma earlier, and she helped me realize that even if Robin can’t hang out with Superboy, that doesn’t mean Conner Kent can’t spend time with Tim Drake.” He looked up from his shoes, his blue eyes putting the Gotham sky to shame. “That is… if it’s okay with you?”
If you had asked Conner, Tim’s answering grin could have lit up even the darkest Gotham alley.
Fifteen minutes later found Tim and Conner side by side at the kitchen table, various homework from various subjects strewn out about. Leaning over under the guise of checking Conner’s math, Tim murmured under his breath for only Conner to hear: “So Conner Kent wears flannel now?”
Conner snorted. “I’m pretty sure it’s the only thing they sell in Smallville,” he whispered back. “Why? You a fan?”
“To be honest… I miss the leather,” he replied thoughtlessly.
“Is that so?” Tim realized what he’d said out loud a moment too late. “I guess I’ll have to keep that in mind,” he smirked.
“Oh, shut up,” Tim replied with a little shove that did absolutely nothing but prompt Conner to break out into full body laughter so loud it drew Dana in from the living room to see what was going on.
When she found a blushing Tim whispering back furiously and sending her embarrassed looks, she let out a chuckle of her own before leaving them to it. She had a good feeling about this kid.
-0
It quickly became routine for Conner to come by after school to do homework a few days a week. Tim had worried that it might have been getting Conner in trouble, but Conner had assured him that he had worked things out with ‘Ma so that he still got all his chores done in spite of the extra hours he was putting in Gotham. And as for Batman, well, if he didn’t want him coming to Gotham to see Tim, he shouldn’t have told him how to find him.
And at least he wasn’t dangling the latest Robin in mid-air anymore.
Whether by fate or weird coincidence, however, he still hadn’t managed to run into Jack Drake while he was monopolizing his son’s time yet. The first night Conner stayed for dinner had ended with them all waiting for half an hour after the food arrived before Jack remembered to call and let Dana know he would be working late. It wasn’t the last time either. And the nights he did come home for dinner were the nights where Conner had already planned to head home early to have dinner with his own family.
Not to say Conner minded. He had some thoughtsabout Jack Drake and the way he treated his son. It was probably better for everyone that Conner spent as little time with the man as possible.
But there was only so long that could last, especially since Tim was practically dying to get out of the house for more than just school or Jack’s father-son excursions.
Unfortunately, as time went on Jack had only gotten more paranoid about where Tim was going and what he was doing, not less. Lately, Tim was practically on lockdown since it was such a pain to get permission to go anywhere without his dad or Dana. The last time he had gone out to the diner with Bernard and Darla his Dad had “just happened” to stop by for a to-go coffee. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that he had been making sure Tim really was where he said he was.
His only saving grace was Dana. While she still enforced his dad’s rules (apparently not wanting to undermine his parenting), Tim had overheard her arguing on his behalf with his dad on multiple occasions, insisting that Tim was a good kid who had earned a little bit of freedom. Granted, these conversations rarely accomplished much besides getting Jack to dismiss her concerns as a lack of understanding due to not having children of her own. Still, Tim appreciated the support. Particularly since Dana had clearly decided that she liked Conner and essentially left them to their own devices while they were “studying.”
Now in addition to actually doing their homework, they were able to spend time talking about the rest of their lives, especially the normal civilian stuff they never seemed to have time for during Titans weekends. Everything from friendships, to TV shows, to their relationships with their parents was fair game. Tim had felt like he knew Conner before, but this was a whole new level. And the more he learned, the more he wanted to know.
And that’s why he had recruited Dana.
It hadn’t been hard. For once in his life, being completely honest with an authority figure about what he wanted was enough. It probably shouldn’t have felt as weird as it did.
Dana had given him a strange look when he mentioned he wanted to hang out with Conner outside of studying, but she had agreed that she didn’t see a problem with it. After all, if his father was alright with him spending time with Bernard (who Dana knew firsthand was not exactly the best of influences) then surely he would be okay with Tim spending more time with “a nice young man” like Conner. He just needed to meet him first.
It would be fine. Probably.
And that was how the two of them had ended up setting the dining table while Dana put the finishing touches on what she assured Tim was Jack’s favorite meal.
“Dude, you’ve got to take a breath,” Conner whispered as he reached around Tim. “I’ve heard your heart beat slower going up against literal mercenaries.”
Tim snorted. “I’ll take Deathstroke over this any day.”
“Hey now,” he shot back with a scandalized hand to his chest, “I’ll have you know I am delightful company!”
Tim’s futile attempts at a mock glare were interrupted when he could no longer hold back the urge to giggle at the absurdity of the situation. He could go up against the worst the world had to offer without thinking twice, but the idea of his dad and his best friend in the same room had him on the verge of a panic attack.
He shot Conner a grateful smile. “I just really need this to go well.”
Conner slung a careless arm around Tim’s shoulder but spoke with a level of seriousness he rarely let people see. “And it will, I promise. We make a good team, remember? We can handle this.”
Tim nodded and drew in some deep breaths to calm his racing pulse. Conner didn’t say anything else, just let him take the minute he needed. Just as Tim had gotten a hold of himself and was about to gently shrug off Conner’s arm, Conner pulled away of his own accord with a parting squeeze of Tim’s shoulder.
“He’s here,” he explained, gesturing to the front door with his chin as he finished off the last place setting.
Sure enough, a moment later Tim heard the telltale click of a key in a lock. There was a very slight possibility that his breathing may have quickened again just a bit if the bemused look Conner sent him was any indication.
Tim most definitely did not stick his tongue out at his friend before heading to the entryway to take his dad’s coat.
Conner and his snicker followed a beat behind Tim. When Jack’s gaze finally landed on Conner, Conner felt his spine straighten involuntarily. Jack didn’t say anything at first, and in the stretching silence Conner felt himself trying to channel every bit of the big blue boy scout he had in him.
Jack’s eyes cast over every bit of Conner’s appearance, from his glasses to his button up to his clean but scuffed sneakers. Conner was uncomfortably reminded of being a literal lab specimen under observation.
Suddenly, Jack’s expression morphed into a charming smile Conner didn’t trust for an instant. He stuck out a hand, and Conner was so caught off guard by the sudden transition that he almost forgot to shake it.
“You must be Tim’s friend. Carter, right?”
“Er—”
“It’s Conner, Dad.”
Jack waved Tim’s correction away. “Right, right, Conner then.” He started walking off to the living room, clearly expecting them to follow. “Dana tells me that you’ve been coming over to study quite a bit lately. I hope your grades have seen a better uptick than Tim’s have.”
Conner sent a questioning glance Tim’s way but didn’t get a response other than the visible tension in the other boy’s jaw.
“Not really sure what the point of a study group is if it doesn’t actually raise your grades any,” Jack continued.
Assuming that the biting comment was rhetorical and feeling supremely awkward, Conner didn’t respond right away. But as the three of them each pulled up a chair, Jack’s impatient expression clued Conner in on the fact that he was actually supposed to answer.
“Er…yes sir. I’ve been really lucky to have Tim’s help getting caught up.”
Jack was saved from responding beyond a noncommittal hmm by Dana’s arrival with the food. As she placed the casserole dish of what looked like enchiladas on the table, Dana gave them all a forced smile.
“And it’s been so nice getting to know one of Tim’s friends, Conner.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Drake.”
“So how did you and Tim start hanging out?” Jack questioned absently.
They had prepped for this question. Conner used the opportunity to launch into an overdramatic retelling of a group project they had worked on together and how they realized that they worked well together. Like all the best lies, it included just enough details not to be suspicious while still having a kernel of truth.
His story succeeded in breaking the ice enough to get conversation started, and Conner felt himself relaxing. He had meant what he said to Tim earlier, but he didn’t exactly meet that many new civilians. But Tim had prepared him well, and this wasn’t his first undercover op. He skillfully navigated around dangerous truths and gave the performance of his life as the perfect All-American teen.
Maybe he should have felt guilty about lying to these people who had opened their home to him. Clark probably would have had something to say about it. After all, on paper Jack had every right to be upset. His son had literally been throwing himself in front of bullets for strangers for years behind his back. Not only that, but he’d been doing it alongside another adult he had trusted to have his son’s best interests at heart. Surely any good parent would have been just as upset, right?
But Conner was very aware that Jack Drake was not the parent he believed himself to be.
Good parents didn’t ship their kid off to boarding schools from the minute he was old enough to attend, and then never show up for the few weeks their kid is home.
Good parents don’t look at everything that makes you you and try to sand it away so that you’ll fit some perfect ideal they have in their head of what you should be.
Good parents don’t look at the emotional scars and bruises they’ve given to their child and tell them that its their own fault for making them do this, for not being enough or for being too much.
Jack Drake may not have laid a hand on his son, but he’d still done plenty of damage, and Conner was forced to watch Tim thank him for it.
So, no. Conner didn’t feel an ounce of guilt for lying to the man who constantly left his favorite person more confused and conflicted than any mystery Batman had ever handed to him.
Tim may not realize that he deserved better yet, but that was alright. Conner would flatter and charm and play meek and responsible without feeling a single thing if it made Tim’s life easier.
As the conversation shifted to what was new with Dana’s sister and her kids, Conner met Tim’s eyes again. Tim subtly tipped his glass approvingly toward Conner, and Conner sent back an answering wink.
Well, he corrected internally, maybe he’d feel one thing after all.
Gotham wasn’t exactly known for its tourist attractions. It was kind of a risky financial decision to try to open anything that encouraged a lot of people to congregate in a city where crowds drew Rogues like killer moths to a flamethrower. And that went double for anything that could be construed as children’s entertainment.
Luckily, Gothamites were both stubborn and spiteful, so there were a few places, like the traveling carnival currently set up near the harbor, that popped up every now and then with that brilliant fuck you energy that so clearly defined the city.
After last week’s dinner got off to its admittedly awkward start, Conner had hit his stride. Seamlessly switching between the perfect “aw shucks, me?” smile when asked a question about himself and then an earnest “tell me more about…” to turn the conversation back to Jack’s interests, Conner would have earned even the Batman’s reluctant approval.
By the end of the night, Jack was riding the high of getting to speak about himself to a willing audience for so long. It was all too easy to get Jack’s permission for Tim to hang out with Conner outside the house… as long as he still made sure to call and check in on the hour, of course.
Tim hadn’t hesitated to get them tickets for the second night the carnival was in town (not wanting to tempt a Rogue’s attack on the first), and the night had finally arrived.
Now, sharing a seat on the ferris wheel with the other teen, Tim couldn’t understand why he’d been so worried. He’d always been the first to insist that there was so much more to Conner than people gave him credit for.
Tim found himself glancing at Conner out of the corner of his eye. Luckily, the other boy was too busy leaning over the railing to watch the sun set behind the city skyline.
Most people looked at Superboy and saw a brash, arrogant, and (if he was lucky) comical teenager. They dismissed him as the brawn to other Titans’ brains. They couldn’t understand how he could be so different from Superman.
Tim knew better than that. Sure, he could be all those things, but what teenager wasn’t? Especially considering all the shit the authority figures in his life had put him through. And yeah, he was funny too.
But Conner was also a damn good friend. He was loyal and brave and empathetic and fiercely protective of the people who had earned his respect. He paid attention to people, and he cared so deeply, even though he tried to cover it up with nonchalance and a confident façade. He might be bulletproof, but Tim would protect that vulnerability he saw until the day he died.
“Alright. Where’d you go?”
Pulled back into the moment rather suddenly, Tim was startled, but he didn’t have to worry about coming up with a suitably mysterious response here. “What?”
Conner snorted and raised one hand to slide his sunglasses just far enough down the bridge of his nose that he could meet Tim’s eyes.
“You’re looking at me weird. What’s up?”
As Tim tried to decide how to answer in a way that wasn’t completely cheesy, the ferris wheel paused again, this time with the two of them at the very top.
“I just—I’m just really glad you’re here. Thanks for coming to Gotham.” He didn’t just mean today either. He meant all of it. The first time he came to find out why Robin wasn’t at the tower, the time he showed up at Tim’s door even what would have chased anyone else away, and every other time they had hung out since.
He didn’t have to specify that though. The blinding smile that broke out over Conner’s face made it clear the message was received.
Conner took a moment, trying to school his expression into something a little smoother, but it was a lost cause. Eventually he just settled for clearing his throat. “You don’t have to thank me, Tim. There’s no place I’d rather be. Besides,” he continued as he casually threw an arm across the back of Tim’s seat, “everyone knows Gotham has the best sunsets.”
His heart pounding, Tim took a deep breath and let himself sink into Conner’s side. For a second, Conner stiffened and Tim worried that he’d made a horrible mistake, that he’d ruined everything.
It was only when he felt the comforting weight of Conner’s arm move from the seat to wrap around Tim’s shoulders, pulling him closer, that Tim let himself believe that this could be okay. They could have this.
The leather of Conner’s jacket was cool against the side of Tim’s face. The sky was a brilliant mess of golds and reds and purples. And Tim was with the person who made him feel safer and more himself than anyone else on the planet.
“Yeah, I suppose we do, don’t we?”
That evening, Tim sat down on his bed, pulling his camera out of his bag. He was looking forward to developing them. Maybe he’d give Conner a few of the shots if they were any good.
knock knock
Tim looked up to see Dana leaning up against the doorframe she had knocked on.
“Hey, Honey. Did y’all have a good time?”
Tim couldn’t have held back the smile if he’d tried. “Oh yeah, it was awesome!”
Dana smiled back just as warmly. “Oh, I’m so glad!” Tim believed her. That was the best thing about Dana, she was one of the most genuine people he knew, and for some reason Tim couldn’t fathom, she had always seemed to care so much about Tim.
“Do you mind if I come in, sweetheart? There’s something I’ve been wanting to talk to you about…”
-0
“I swear to god I used to be good at keeping secrets,” Tim groaned as he allowed his head to thunk dramatically against the diner table.
Conner didn’t look up from his menu, but he did use his TTK to save their waters from tipping over. “Sure you were,” he deadpanned.
“I was literally trained in deception and resistance to interrogation by one of the best detectives in the world.”
“Yup.”
“She still doesn’t know I was Robin. Neither of them have made the very obvious connections between you and a certain Boy of Steel for some reason.
“It’s the glasses.”
“It is not the glasses.”
“It is,” he said. “Conner Kent wears glasses, and Superboy doesn’t. Therefore, obviously different people.” His forehead crinkled. “Do you think a sweet potato milkshake would be any good?”
“It wouldn’t be the weirdest thing I’ve ever eaten.” Tim squinted back up suspiciously from where he was still sprawled on the table. “Also, I feel like you are not being nearly sympathetic enough to my plight.”
Conner finally gave up the pretense of looking at the menu and dropped his chin to rest on his hands on the tabletop, so his face was only a few inches from Tim’s long-suffering expression.
Unfortunately for Tim’s dignity, Conner’s crooked grin was infectious. “How long did it take her to figure it out?”
“Ugh, she apparently she knew the minute she saw me, but at least she promised not to tell Dad.”
Conner snickered.
“Don’t laugh! She tried to give me the talk, Conner!”
That just sent Conner into full-body cackles. Tim watched him throw his head back and couldn’t help but feel proud. He did that. But he wasn’t done pouting yet either. It was the principle of the thing, after all.
“Sorry—” Conner gasped, “Sorry babe!” He leaned forward to place a kiss to Tim’s forehead, reveling in the way his boyfriend blushed so immediately. “You can hide just about anything else, sure, but you’ve got absolutely no poker face when you’re happy.”
Tim grumbled good naturedly like the absolute gremlin he was before finally deciding to sit up when a rather unimpressed waitress stopped by to take their order.
When she walked off, Conner turned back to Tim, casually taking one of Tim’s hands in his as though they weren’t both still completely in awe of this new development.
“So…” Conner started. “You were supposed to get together with your Wizards & Warlocks friends over the weekend, right? How’d that go?”
Tim’s eyes lit up as he started telling Conner about the most recent developments to their current campaign. Conner did his best to make sense of all of the characters and jargon he had no reference for, since it clearly meant a lot to Tim. Though that was made a little trickier by how much fun he was having just watching Tim.
He rarely got to see him so animated, due to the expectations constantly heaped on Robin and Tim Drake alike. When talking about something he enjoyed, however, Tim came alive. So, Conner listened, asking real questions that sparked off another tangent every time he started running out of steam.
Conner wondered if Tim’s eyes had always sparkled that much when they were hidden behind a mask. He didn’t think so, but either way he was just grateful Tim trusted him enough to let him see.
“So then Ives—oh, Dana, can you pass the bread? thanks—Ives ended up rolling a Nat 20 on persuasion, which completely messed with my pla—”
“Alright, alright, I’m about tapped out on Witches & Wizards—” Jack interrupted, his hands raised in a timeout gesture.
“Jack!” Dana admonished.
“It’s actually Wizards & Warlocks, Dad.”
“Whatever it’s called! There’s only so much of this I can hear before my brain rots.”
Tim forced an apologetic smile. “Sorry, Dad.”
Jack waved away the apology with his buttered roll. “Forget about it. Hey, how’s your school’s basketball team this year? I was thinking we would go to the game this Friday, just the two of us.”
“Oh,” Tim said, “I don’t really know. Umm… what time is the game? Because I already made plans to go see a movie with Conner on Friday before he has to go away for the weekend for some family stuff.”
Jack frowned and Tim found himself straightening up involuntarily. “You’ve been spending a lot of time with that Conner kid. What’s up with that?” he asked accusatorily.
Wary of stumbling into a trap he couldn’t see, Tim tried to feign a casualness he didn’t feel. “I don’t know, I guess I just realized we have a lot in common, but I hang out with a lot of people. Why do you ask?”
This apparently wasn’t enough for Jack because he didn’t let it go, even putting his fork down so he could make sure his full attention was on Tim. “You don’t though! You almost never talk about Bernard anymore, or that Darla girl! The wizards thing was weird enough, but now if it’s not that then it’s Conner this or Conner that! If you’re not careful, you’re gonna give people the wrong idea about the two of you.”
The tightening in Tim’s throat would have been painful if it weren’t for the numbness he felt sinking into his bones.
“And now you’re suddenly too good to hang out with your dad anymore? I don’t know what’s gotten into you, but I’m concerned about the person you’re becoming lately.”
“No! No, Dad it’s not like that—”
Tim looked at a wide-eyed Dana desperately for help. Ever ready to defend Tim when he needed, Dana didn’t disappoint.
“Oh, Jack, honey,” she laughed a little too loudly, “leave the poor boy be. He’s a good kid, and it’s healthy for a teenage boy to want to spend more time with his friends! I don’t see the harm in it. Honestly, shouldn’t we be proud of him for honoring his commitments?”
Jack’s glare was as hard as steel and just as cold. “Don’t tell me what I should and shouldn’t be proud of. I think I know how to parent my son.”
Dana broke eye-contact first, and Jack seemed to be the only one immune to the rising tension. Eventually he paused his meal consideringly. “Though I suppose you do have a point, Dana. Tim and I will just have to go to the next game, hmm?”
Grateful for the out, Tim nodded quickly. “Sounds great, Dad.”
Tim had been looking forward to seeing this movie since he’d seen the first preview, but he hadn’t been paying attention at all for the last ten minutes. Oh well, he could come back and watch it again later, maybe with the guys in his W&W group.
In the meantime, it was definitely worth the sacrifice. Kissing Conner in the back row of the theatre, Tim had never felt more like a normal teenager in his life. This might be just as fun as running over rooftops.
-0
Conner swung Tim’s hand back and forth between them as they walked, feeling a bit like a little kid. Most people probably would have been on edge walking through the streets of Gotham right after sunset, but most people weren’t literally bulletproof.
As it was, Conner would have been content to stay out there all night if it meant he got to keep holding Tim’s hand while he chattered about the photos he had taken on their last outing to the botanical gardens and how they had turned out. Conner had learned more about camera lenses in the last ten minutes than he had in his life, and he was loving it.
Unfortunately, the Titans would be expecting him in an hour or so, and Tim’s dad would probably take exception to his son being out all night under mysterious circumstances. So, it was with a heavy sigh that Conner finally arrived at the Drake’s brownstone.
The boys came to a stop before reaching the front steps, neither ready for the night to end. Conner leaned forward to press his forehead to rest against Tim’s.
“You know,” he whispered, “I know I said I wanted Robin to come back to the Titans —and don’t get me wrong, I would still love that— but I’m also kinda loving having you all to myself.”
Tim chuckled and when that laugh turned into a crooked grin that made Conner’s stomach flutter, he couldn’t resist kissing it back off.
WHAM
Tim and Conner jumped apart as the door to the brownstone slammed open. Jack glared down at them.
“Tim. Get in this house, right now.” When Tim hesitated to move, Jack’s tone only grew even more demanding. “I said get in this house Timothy Jackson Drake.”
The sound of his full name seemed to spark Tim back to life, as he scrambled back towards the house. Conner gently caught one of Tim’s hands just before he was out of reach, and the other boy looked at him like a started deer.
“Do you want me to…” Conner trailed off with a meaningful hand wave at the side of his head. Do you want me to listen in, he was asking.
Tim thought about it for a second before shaking his head. “But maybe don’t go far?”
Conner nodded decisively before meeting Jack’s hateful gaze defiantly for just a moment. He shoved his fists into his jacket pockets before storming off to the corner. As soon as he was out of view, however, he took advantage of Gotham’s perpetual lighting problem to fly up to the roof of the house next to Tim’s, ready to be there the minute Tim needed him.
He settled in to wait, trying to focus on anything but the shouting coming from the Drake residence.
It was probably took longer than it should have for Conner to realize he wasn’t alone, but, hey, he was distracted. Sue him.
“You can come out. I can hear your heartbeat.”
Black Bat unfurled from where she had blended perfectly into the shadows cast by the air-conditioning unit.
“What are you doing here?” Conner asked.
Cass joined him in sitting on the edge of the roof to watch the brownstone. “A while ago…there was a killer…hunting the last robin. I still check in.”
“Every night?”
“No…but most nights.”
Conner considered that for a moment. “So, I’m guessing you saw…?”
“Yes.” Conner thought he could detect a playful edge to her voice. “You are not very subtle.” Okay, no, he was definitely being teased.
trying to play along, he bumped her shoulder with his own. “Well, we can’t all be bat-level sneaky. The universe couldn’t take it. Some of us have to be showy enough to balance the rest of you out.”
Cass hummed consideringly. “That’s fine. Batman will… train it out of you.”
Conner let himself fall back dramatically in mock horror, and Cass giggled. The sound did not match the mask at all, but somehow the juxtaposition seemed fitting for a member of the bat family.
“It’s how he shows his love, promise.”
Conner smiled, the tension of the moment briefly eclipsed by the mental image of the Batman trying to mother-hen a super. Clark would never let him live it down.
Suddenly, movement drew his eye, and Conner saw Tim. Ready to hear the verdict, Conner rose to fly back down.
“Thanks,” he turned to say, only to find himself met with an empty roof.
Bats, man.
Tim followed Jack into the house, his heart pounding so hard Clark could probably hear it in Metropolis. His lips and fingers felt weirdly tingly before going slightly numb. His brain was going a million miles an hour but his body just felt slightly distant.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to happen. This wasn’t supposed to happen at all. He wasn’t ready for this, it was supposed to be on his terms. But it was happening and it was happening now.
Jack stormed into the living room where Dana was half-risen in concern. She froze at the thunderous expression on his face as Jack being to pace the room like a caged lion. Meanwhile, Tim was a stone statue standing just in the room’s entrance. He felt a little bit like one of the artifacts his parents had brought back as souvenirs from their travels, just another relic meant to show off to friends that just ended up cluttering an empty house. And were Tim’s ears ringing?
“What the fuck did I just see, Tim?!” Jack burst out.
“Dad, I—”
“Don’t you fucking dare try to talk yourself out of this. Do you think I’m some kind of idiot?!”
“No! Of cour—”
“Jack, honey, whatever this is about, maybe we—”
Dana’s attempts to calm Jack only seemed to enrage him more, and she was cut off by the CRASH that came from Jack pitching one of her vases across the room. She froze, her eyes darting between Tim and Jack.
“Do you want to tell her what you’ve been doing behind our backs, Tim, or should I?”
“I—Conner and I--We” Tim sputtered unintelligibly, but Dana got the gist. She closed her eyes for a moment too long in sympathy, and Jack’s fury turned on her in an instant.
“You knew? You knew what was happening, and you didn’t put a stop to it?”
“Jack! There’s nothing wro…”
Her voice trailed off as Jack stalked closer and closer to her chair until he towered over her. She shrunk down. Jack leaned down over her and braced himself on the arms of the chair, effectively trapping his wife.
“Do you even care about what this could do to us?” His voice had gone low and picked up a dangerous quality that reminded Tim of the way Batman spoke to criminals he interrogated. But Tim had never been afraid of Batman.
He went on, his head tilted mockingly. “Or, are you just too stupid and selfish to realize how this reflects back on me?”
And, as he watched Dana start to shake, something in Tim snapped.
He was across the room in an instant, wrenching Jack’s arm behind his back so that he was forced to step back and turn around to keep it from breaking. The second Jack let go of Dana’s chair, Tim shoved him stumbling in the opposite direction.
“Leave her alone.”
Jack spun back around. “Did you just shove me?” he asked in pure outrage.
Tim’s chin raised defiantly. “I told you I could, didn’t I?”
At the reminder of the night Jack found out about Robin, Jack’s face twisted back into something ugly.
“So what?! I risk my life to save you from those freaks the first time, and this is the thanks I get? How the hell is anyone supposed to take me seriously when my son is—”
“I didn’t ASK you to save me, Dad!” Tim shouted. Years and years of bottling his resentment and frustration had led to an inevitable explosion, and Tim didn’t care who got burned. “I loved being Robin, I loved getting to help people, and getting to show what I can do. I worked so hard to earn Robin, and I gave it up to make you happy and I still can’t do anything right for you. I am so sick of pretending to be someone I’m not in the hopes that maybe someday it’ll finally be enough for you.”
“Tim—”
“No! It’s my turn now!” Tim’s words were acid. If he didn’t get them out now, they would burn him from the inside out. “I will never be the perfect kid you and Mom thought you deserved. I get that now. But I am enough. Bruce thinks so. Dick thinks so. And Conner thinks so too. I am more me with him than I am with anyone else. You already took Robin from me. I won’t let you take this from me too.”
Jack puffed up in rage. Seemingly having forgotten his lesson, he stormed into Tim’s space. Tim took a few steps back on instinct before he came back to himself and planted his feet, forcing Jack to stop to avoid a collision. Their faces were only a few inches apart as they glared at each other.
Tim realized he was almost as tall as his father.
Stubbornly trying to regain the control he could feel slipping through his fingers like water, Jack summoned every bit of authority he had in his body into his tone. “You aren’t seeing him again. This never happens again. Do I make myself clear?”
It was a good effort, but Tim had fought the Justice League. He regularly stared down the worst Gotham had to offer and said not here, not today. There was a lot he was willing to do to keep the peace. But Tim was fed up, and this was one thing he refusedto compromise on.
“No.”
There was nothing as immovable as a Bat who had made up their mind.
Maybe Jack finally recognized that because, for just a moment, Tim thought he saw something like sadness in his father’s eyes before they hardened like steel.
“Then get out.”
Tim blinked, his confusion enough to break through the bubble of anger that had been clouding out all else. “What?”
“I said get out of my house. And don’t come back.”
“Dad—”
“I don’t know who you are anymore. But you aren’t my son. I guess Batman ended up killing him after all.”
Tim’s eyes widened. He wasn’t sure whether it was the grief or betrayal that cut worse, but he kinda wished the numbness would come back. He drew in a deep breath, pulling what was left of his anger around him like a shield. Or maybe a cloak.
He spun around on his heel and marched back toward the front door.
The movement seemed to break the trance of confused horror that had held Dana like a vice as she watched the argument unfold like a demented tennis match.
“Tim!” she called after him. She reached out vainly as if that would be enough to close the distance that had opened up between them like a chasm. “Tim, sweetheart!”
Tim couldn’t turn around, but that didn’t make Dana’s heartbroken tone any less painful to hear.
He didn’t stop once he was out of the door until he was halfway down the street. And then, it was only because Conner landed right in front of him.
“Hey, what happened?”
Tim couldn’t answer. He couldn’t make eye contact right now either. But Conner didn’t press him.
“Okay,” he reassured, “that’s okay.” He raised one hand for Tim to take if he wanted. “Can I give you a lift then?”
Tim took the hand.
Tim directed Conner to touch down at the Manor’s front door, not wanting to risk the possibility of Bruce having changed the security codes by now. Even still, he was certain they had tripped some sort of alarm when they flew over the property.
He was proven correct when Alfred pulled open the door before he’d had the chance to knock. If he noticed that Tim still hadn’t let go of Conner’s hand, the butler didn’t say anything.
“Master Timothy! What an excellent surprise!”
Despite everything, Tim found his mouth pulling into a fond smile at the old man. “Hi Alfred. Is Bruce home? I need to talk to him.”
“Right this way, sir!” Alfred said, already pulling the door open, and Conner allowed himself to be pulled along with nothing but a supportive hand squeeze.
Tim felt his heart pounding as he followed Alfred towards what he quickly realized was Bruce’s study. Suddenly unable to bear the silence anymore, Tim burst out: “Alfred, have you met Conner?”
Alfred’s face twitched into what only the bats would recognize as the butler suppressing a fond smile of his own. “I have not, sir. Though I must admit I had guessed.” Addressing Conner directly this time, Alfred continued, “My name is Alfred Pennyworth. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mr. Kent.”
“Oh, uh…” Conner stammered before Martha Kent’s training kicked in. “It’s nice to meet you too, Mr. Pennyworth.”
Alfred hmmd approvingly but left it there. Luckily, Tim was saved from further attempts at small talk by their arrival at the study doors. Alfred bid them goodbye before slipping away with a subtlety Conner had only thought attainable by bats.
Tim drew in a deep breath before knocking hesitatingly on the ornate doors. The “come in!’ came barely a moment later, and Tim pushed them open with the resignation of a convict approaching the gallows.
On any other day, Conner would have been looking around at anything and everything in the office appreciatively. But today he couldn’t tear his eyes away from Tim who had gone ramrod straight, his own gaze locked onto the man standing up from his desk at the other end of the room.
Bruce Wayne rose from his desk, in that moment somehow managing to look twice as intimidating in a tailored suit as he ever did as Batman. His eyes roved over both boys, taking in everything from their still intertwined hands to Conner’s civilian garb to the way Tim looked like he might be on the verge of passing out. His face was inscrutable the whole time.
Eventually, Bruce’s gaze met Conner’s own defiant glare. “So…” he drawled in perfect deadpan, “are the glasses genetic, or is the entire caped community conspiring to drive me prematurely gray.”
Tim let out a sudden laugh so strangled Conner was mildly concerned he was choking. Conner could empathize.
Apparently amused by their reaction, the Batman smirked,and Conner’s soul left his body for a moment.
When it became clear that they weren’t going to say anything on their own, Bruce continued. “Well, Conner, something tells me that Tim and I need to have a conversation. Will you be joining us, or do you have somewhere to be,” he asked mildly.
Conner gave Tim a sideways glance, under no delusions about who’s comfort Bruce was really concerned with here. Tim squeezed Conner’s hand one more time before finally letting go, and Conner took that as the dismissal it was.
“Actually, sir, I think better head to San Francisco before Victor starts to wonder where I am.”
Bruce nodded turned his attention to Tim. Conner made sure to supportively squeeze Tim’s shoulder back on his way out. He tried to ignore the part of himself that made him feel like he was abandoning Tim to the lions.
-0
Once Conner had pulled the door shut behind him, Bruce let go of the bit of Batman that had made its appearance the minute the proximity alarms had let him know that someone had flown over the property boundaries.
“Tim.”
Tim still wasn’t making eye contact, his gaze getting no closer than Bruce’s mouth. Bruce resisted the instinct to drop into the Batman voice. While it would be a sure-fire way to get Tim to look at him, it also would do nothing to actually make the kid more comfortable. Tim would assume that it meant he’d done something wrong, and that would just make everything ten times worse.
Instead, Bruce fought to keep his tone as even and gentle as possible. “How about we sit down,” he asked with a gesture toward the twin armchairs by the fire.
Tim nodded stiffly but still wouldn’t speak. Bruce held in his sigh. Just as he reached his own chair, there was another knock on the door, and Alfred pushed his way in without waiting for a response.
“Forgive me for interrupting, Master Bruce, but I thought some soothing tea might be helpful.”
Bruce smiled at the older man. “Thank you, Alfred. That would be great.”
Alfred nodded and brought his tray over to the side table before pouring each of them a cup. As he turned to leave, Tim’s quiet “thanks” was almost inaudible, but Alfred caught it anyway.
“You are most welcome, young man” he replied, making sure to send Bruce a pointed don’t screw this up glance on his way out.
Bruce settled down into the chair next to Tim, their knees almost close enough to touch. Tim’s hands were wrapped so tightly around his teacup that Bruce worried he might shatter it, but he didn’t take so much as a sip.
“Tim. Can you tell me what’s going on, son?”
Tim finally looked up from his cup again, his gaze settling on Bruce’s mouth again.
“I’m not really sure where to start.”
Okay, Bruce could work with that. “Does your Dad know where you are right now?”
Tim snorted humorlessly. “I really don’t think he gives a shit where I am or what I do at this point. He—” Tim broke off to clear his throat before trying again. “He kicked me out.”
There was pure defeat in Tim’s voice, as if he’d always known it was a matter of time, but he still managed to be disappointed anyway. That more than anything filled Bruce with a level of rage rare even for him while simultaneously breaking his heart.
Not trusting himself to speak at first, Bruce instead gently pulled the poor teacup out of Tim’s grasp and took his hands in his own. Tim’s fingers were trembling.
“Because he found out about you and Conner?” he clarified softly, not wanting to risk a faulty assumption when everything was so fragile.
Tim nodded again anyway. “We fought about some other stuff too, but… yeah, it was mostly about that. He saw us together, and—”
Again, Bruce really wanted to shake Jack Drake senseless. It was bad enough he always seemed to take this wonderful kid for granted, but to see a father intentionally hurt his child over something so inconsequential? It was unforgiveable.
“I’m so sorry, Tim. I know how much you wanted this to work out.”
Tim’s eyes filled with tears, and Bruce was pulling him against his chest even before he consciously recognized what he was seeing. As his son fell apart in his arms, Bruce found tears coming to his own eyes as well.
It had always been obvious how desperate Tim was for his father’s affection and approval after being starved for it for so many years. This was the final deathblow to the hope that one day it would be enough.
So, Bruce held his son, running his fingers through his hair. Eventually, Tim had cried himself out and pulled away, his embarrassment clear on his face. Bruce pulled a clean handkerchief (courtesy of Alfred, of course) from his pocket and handed it to a grateful Tim. Once he had pulled himself together, Tim looked back at Bruce, finally meeting his eyes.
“Does this…Does this mean I can come back to the Manor?”
“Oh, chum…” Bruce reached out to cradle one side of Tim’s face in his hand, his thumb reaching out to brush away another rogue tear. “I promise, you will always have a place in my home. Got it?”
“But what about Stephanie? You already have a Robin…”
Bruce raised an eyebrow. “Well, first of all, your place in this family is not contingent on whether you’re wearing a mask or not. And I’m so sorry if I’ve made you think otherwise. You are just as welcome here if you never put a mask on again as you would be if you went out tomorrow.
And secondly,” here he grimaced, “I may or may not have fired her for putting herself in danger after I told her to stay put. So… Robin’s yours if you still want it.”
“And you’re really okay with me dating a guy?”
Bruce chuckled. “Tim, I’ve taken in three boys by now. You think I never considered the possibility that at least one of you might bring home a boy someday? Granted, I would have put money on Dick being the first, but the point still stands. It makes absolutely no difference to me if you’re gay, buddy.”
“Umm… I think I’m bi actually.”
“Alright then, but my point still stands. I trust your judgment, and I don’t care who you date, as long as they make you happy.”
Tim gave a watery smile. “Thanks, Bruce.”
“Anytime, kiddo.” Then fully out of emotion points, Bruce cleared his suddenly tight throat. “Now, mind coming with me to the cave?”
Confused, Tim cocked his head, but rose accommodatingly. “Sure, what do you need?”
Bruce shook his head as he spun the clock hands and opened the secret passage. “It’s not what I need, but what you need.” He beckoned Tim to follow him down the steps, which he did obligingly. “I need to grab some more Kryptonite.”
“Bruce!” Tim squawked in shock and indignation. His brain immediately went into panic mode, thinking about all the ways Bruce trying to shovel-talk Conner might go horribly wrong, or at least be horribly embarrassing.
Bruce turned back, completely baffled by how adamant and unexpected the refusal was. “Tim,” he started. And oh no, that was his I don’t know why you’re arguing with this perfectly reasonable request voice that always managed to piss Dick off.
“If the two of you are going to be spending time together in Gotham as civilians, you need to be prepared in case the two of you get caught up in one a Rogue attack.” He turned back around and continued on over to the vault where he kept the Kryptonite. “Oh, and don’t let me forget to give him one of these new rebreathers I’ve been working on next time he comes over. The last thing Gotham needs is a Kryptonian getting dosed with Fear Toxin or Joker Gas.”
Kryptonite in hand, Bruce spun and nearly walked into a frozen Tim who was looking at him with a dumbfounded expression. “What?” he asked, the smallest bit of defensiveness bleeding into his voice.
Tim’s voice turned slightly skeptical. “And that’s the only thing you want the Kryptonite for?”
Now it was Bruce’s turn to be confused. “Yes???” he asked, mind whirling to figure out what he was missing.
Tim realized he had definitely misread where this was going and felt torn between laughing at Bruce’s complete confusion and the urge to hug him.
He decided to go with the second one, and if Bruce still had no idea what was going on when he hugged Tim back, well, that just made it better.
-0
Conner was happy enough to take the call that saved him from having to help seed the backfield. He was twice as happy to hear it was from Tim, who he hadn’t heard from since Conner left him at Wayne Manor three days ago.
“Tim?”
“Conner…”
“Tim, is that…you?”
“It’s me.”
“What’s up? What’s going on? I hear gunshots.”
“Tell the Titans not to give up my room. Tell them I’m back.”
Conner grinned. “I knew it.”
Use All of Me (P.11)
Title: Use All Of Me (Part Eleven) Summary: Fem!Reader x Dark Mob!Steve Rogers. The Avengers are heroes saving the world but in this AU, they are also permitted by the powers in charge to have less than favorable business underneath their guise of mere superheroes. Steve and Tony are at the helm, keeping their empire’s wealth in check, both devious and perilous if crossed. Steve takes a liking to the reader at a party and it may be her undoing to her autonomy choosing to go home with him. Words: 2,711 Warnings: Dark AF, angst, emotional/mental abuse, smut, breeding, death Author’s Note: As some of my midwest friends have poked fun at, a freeway to me is an interstate, like I5 and I90. A highway to me refers to state routes or highways with stop lights along it at certain spots. I know it’s not a huge deal but I like to explain cause it’s definitely regional and sets the scene of what I am thinking of when I’m writing.
Part Ten || Part Twelve || Masterpost (mobile) || Fanfic masterpost
“I need somebody, ANYBODY, to get in a car or something and get to Grand Central terminal right now.”
Steve was on multiple way call with the team that answered the phone, sitting in the passenger seat while Natasha sped down the freeway. Tony had separated from them, heading towards the Avengers facility where he could have more cameras which gave him more eyes. Facial recognition was granted at the facility grounds on a larger scale of satellites too unlike his house.
“You wanna tell us what for?” Rhodes asked perplexed.
“Y/N left,” Steve snapped. There was a chorus of murmurs from all ends of the phone call, generally ignored by Steve who was too hot headed to acknowledge their concern. “I don’t know where the hell she is going. But Nat heard her whispering to her friend in the bathroom about taking a train. To god knows where.
“Do we know it’s going to be Grand Central?” Sam inquired calmly.
“No, not for sure! But I want it covered. As soon as possible! They got a half hour head start or so from my house. Nat and I are going to Penn. That’s where the Amtrak is. Tony’s accessing surveillance, using facial recognition.
“What do you want us to do if we find her?” Bucky asked.
“Don’t hurt her,” Steve ordered.
“Well, no shit,” Bucky cut in, unable to hold back his sarcasm. “I meant, where do you want us to—”
“She’s with one – or two, I’m not sure – of her friends,” Steve interrupted, strained. “Try to make it as quiet as possible. I don’t want it all over the evening news. Just—get Y/N away from there.”
“What about her friends?” Clint pointed out.
“I’ll deal with them later,” Steve got out in a surly tone. “Call me if you find her.”
<><><>
You laid across the backseat of the car, examining your nails.
“I really don’t like you having no seatbelt on,” Natalie said for what felt like the tenth time since you had escaped past the gate of your house.
“I’ll sit up when my back hurts,” you responded, stretching one of your legs as far as you could towards the ceiling. You grunted when you felt a pull in your lower abdomen.
“We are out of the gate, Y/N. And away from cameras. We are on a highway.”
“There are still cameras. But I know. It’s been like an hour.”
You were tingling with anticipation, threatening to eat you alive. You half expected Natalie to slam on her brakes at any seconds because Steve landed in front of the car in the lane. You doubted though he would want to put you in danger and that could cause a huge accident.
Would not want to hurt his precious cargo, you thought to yourself darkly.
Yua sighed from the passenger seat and looked back at you around the seat. She had decided to come with the pair of you and had been filled in on the situation after you had successfully gotten through the gate. You almost snorted at the absurdity of the fact all you had to do was wear a hood and one of Steve’s baseball caps to shield your face and make sure to not make eye contact with the guards meandering around the gate. Holding the backpack in your lap had helped to hide your stomach.
“Y/N. Sit up. Please. Stop making Natalie get worry lines, it’s starting to stress me out. It’s not like they won’t be looking for Natalie’s plates in the cameras if they have access outside of New York.” You were sure Tony did. His company was worldwide. “I don’t think them seeing your face is going to make any difference. They saw you get in the car on the surveillance tapes at your house by now.”
You exhaled heavily, knowing she was right. You imagined Steve seeing the tapes and turning around to tear a door of his hinges, hurling it across the room. You would laugh at the imagery if it did not simultaneously terrify you. Sitting up with some difficulty, you patted Natalie’s shoulder who thanked you.
The two of them had turned their phones off – you had left yours behind. You were sure Tony would figure out how to track theirs but yours was definitely compromised. You did not even want it on you, choosing to leave it on the entrance table by the front door.
It was scary. You could not stop thinking about how angry Steve would be – was. It was present tense now for sure. He had to have figured out you were missing by now. Otherwise, Wanda, Bryce, and Patricia were completely inept, which you knew was not the case.
Staring out the window, you watched the trees go by trying to think about the nature walks you could go on without watchful eyes around the cabin. It lulled you into some sense of relaxation.
<><><>
Steve stormed through the terminal, his eyes watchful on the crowd for anything that screamed Y/N from behind or a profile. His eyes zeroed in on the back of a woman’s head and he changed course quickly, coming up to her, shoving his way through the crowd much to some people’s annoyance at being shoved aside. He grabbed her arm and whipped her around when he was on her.
She cried out in half fear and half pain.
It was not Y/N.
“Sorry,” he said not sounding sorry at all. “Thought you were someone else.”
She glared at him, rubbing her arm. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
Steve bit back a comment, turning from her without a word.
“Hey, aren’t you Captain America?” someone asked him from a few feet away. That caught the woman’s attention, as well as others.
Steve shot the kid an annoyed look and said clipped, “Not right now, kid. Sorry. I’m busy.”
He took off again before anyone could say anything else, god forbid ask him for an autograph or a selfie. His heart was hammering, searching desperately. He came to a stop, staring out over the crowd. Hope she was here was dwindling fast. He felt like his chest was going to explode from the myriad of feelings coursing through him right now.
I’m not seeing her, Natasha texted him. He had sent her the opposite way from him, telling her to check the female bathrooms that direction. He was getting similar texts from the group at Grand Central too and he could not stand to look at his phone anymore, shoving it into his back pocket furiously.
He ran his hand through his hair, tugging on it near the ends in frustration. He took one more stroll down the terminal, scouring it to make sure he had not missed her. Natasha appeared and without a word went into the bathrooms to cover her bases.
When she appeared again, she was empty handed. She approached him slowly, with caution, his gaze burning into her.
“I shouldn’t have left the house,” Natasha said, shaking her head. She looked disappointed and guilty.
“You couldn’t have known it was going to be right then,” Steve said tightly. He had little patience for coddling someone else’s feelings right now but extended the gesture briefly because it was Nat. His face hardened, shaking his head slightly. “I’m gonna tell them I’m heading home to speak to that bumbling idiot I call my security guard.”
<><><>
Natasha had barely got the car into park before Steve threw the door open and made a beeline for the front door of his house. The door bounced off the wall with the sheer force he threw it open with. Natasha followed him, far more collected. She grabbed the door, closing it, eyeing the hole the doorhandle had made into the wall. She shook her head before following Steve towards the living room.
Bryce stood up from the couch on sight seeing Steve. Wanda did as well, far less stricken looking than Bryce though. She looked concerned.
“Did you—” she started to ask Steve, but he cut her off, all his rage radiating towards Bryce as he stormed in.
“How the fuck did you let this happen?” Steve roared at Bryce.
“The front gate didn’t catch her—” Bryce tried to pass the buck onto the other men, but Steve was not having an ounce of it.
He was towering over Bryce now, Bryce trying to not fold in Steve’s shadow. “I don’t care about the front gate! She shouldn’t have even been able to get into the car!”
Blubbering, Bryce tried to say, “There were a lot of women, Mr. Rogers. She was starting to say goodbye to them all—”
“You didn’t think to be outside? To keep an eye on her? Not even for a second? That didn’t cross your mind?”
“I didn’t expect her to leave.”
“Now that—” Steve snarled, pointing threateningly in Bryce’s face, causing him to flinch. “I find to be an egregious lie!”
“S-s-sir?”
Steve moved closer if that was possible, his nose inches from Bryce’s. Bryce visibly gulped, trying to not break eye contact with him. Steve’s voice was dangerously low, “Do you have something to tell me, Bryce?”
“I’m not sure what you mean, sir.”
“Bryce. I am giving you one chance to be honest with me: Did Y/N ask you for help to leave me?”
Bryce’s forehead was covered in a sheen of nervous sweat. His eyes darted nervously to Wanda who was standing nearby, watching the scene unfold curiously. She did not move to help, and he was forced to focus back on Steve knowing Natasha would not help him under any circumstance.
He licked his lips nervously and exhaled shakily. “Yes. But—”
He did not get to finish because Steve had taken a step back, cocked his arm back and socked him straight in the face, knocking him backward. Bryce yelped in agony, grasping at his nose as he laid on the ground, blood gushing from his broken nose. Steve unholstered his gun and Bryce saw, his eyes growing wide as saucers. His broken nose was quickly forgotten, holding up his hands in front of him as he pleaded for Steve to not do it, but his sniveling went unheeded. Steve unloaded half a round into his chest.
Steve’s hand shook now, and he lowered the gun slowly to his side. His eyes were absent of warmth, staring down at the man who he had entrusted his future wife and children’s safety to. Bryce’s eyes were still open in fear, blood trickling from his mouth as his head and arms slumped to the ground. His chest stopped moving in a matter of seconds, lying in a quickly forming puddle of red.
Rolling his shoulders back and cracking his neck, Steve replaced his gun, taking a deep breath, exhaling slowly.
“They could have gone anywhere,” he finally said tautly.
“Steve, I’m sorry,” Wanda offered, taking a few steps towards him.
“You weren’t in charge of watching her,” Steve responded, still not looking at the two women behind him.
The front door opened loudly down the hall and there were running steps, putting the trio on the defense quickly. Two of Steve’s security guards came into view, both out of breath. They both visibly relaxed seeing Steve still standing there, their eyes only flicking to Bryce’s body on the ground for a second. To their credit, they both did not blanch.
One offered, “Sorry for running in. We heard shots.”
Steve ignored her apology, beginning to walk. “Clean up the body and get rid of it. Now,” Steve ordered impatiently, moving past her.
“Where are you going?” Natasha asked, moving to follow him, Wanda in tandem.
“Back to the facility. It’s time to brainstorm and make a different plan,” Steve said over his shoulder.
<><><>
The cabin was two stories, an open floor plan on both floors. There was a wall shielding the top loft bedroom from view and a bedroom on the ground floor. Immediately, Natalie said the three of you could sleep upstairs since there was a queen bed and another twin bed. Yua pointed out that there was a back door right next to the other bedroom and you would be able to hear if someone came in there. Plus, people in horror movies always ran upstairs which ended in their demise. She stopped arguing when Natalie said there was a staircase from the upper deck outside the bedroom leading to the backyard.
“Wow, there are some CDs here,” Yua said flipping through a small case next to an entertainment center. “It’s like we are back in the 90s.”
“Hey, that entertainment console was top notch in the 90s. Don’t trash talk it,” Natalie joked.
“Gotta leave things people don’t want to steal since they use this as an air bnb,” you teased and Natalie pointed at you, acknowledging that.
Yua laughed, “They’re all burned CDs too. Oh, look. Top hits ’04. Oh, that’s past the 90s. Upgrading.” You chuckled as she pulled the CD out, opening the console. “Oh, my! And it’s a six disc! We could change albums whenever we want. Is there a remote? Oh, yes!” She chose five more random albums and put them in as well, closing it and choosing the original disc she had put in.
The first song started out and the three of you immediately made eye contact. “Oh my god. I have not heard this song in forever. A true lost Destiny’s Child gem,” Natalie said, unable to stop laughing. “Ooh, I put it right there, made it easy for you to get to…” she began to sing as she moved towards the kitchen to put the bags of food on the counter.
She had stopped at a mini mart near the bottom of the mountain to grab a good amount of food to hold you guys over. Yua and her had left you in the car to be able to cover the store quicker to leave as little time as possible staying stagnant in a parking lot. The whole time you had been on edge, pulling your hood as far down your face as you could while trying to keep a look out. Every car that drove by on the highway made the hairs on your arms stand up, praying it would not whip around and come back to you.
“If Mr. Brightside isn’t on this album, I’m going to be really disappointed. That was a true gem of my childhood,” Yua chimed in. She flopped onto the couch, stretching out. “Feels good to not be in the car. Hey, Nat, can you bring me one of my beers. Please?” She shot you an apologetic look. “Sorry, Y/N.”
“Just four more months,” you said lightly, touching your stomach as you sat down as well.
Yua reached over, caressing your stomach lightly. “Can’t you not drink while you’re breastfeeding too?”
“Don’t tell me that.”
“Sorry,” Yua snickered as Natalie came out of the kitchen holding a beer and a glass of wine.
She held it out to you, and you stared at her in bewilderment that she was offering you alcohol.
“It’s not rosé,” Natalie smiled. “It’s sparkling. A blush kind.”
“How nice of you,” you said, smiling in return. You took a small sip and said, “Hmm. It’ll do.”
“I’ll take that as a ‘thank you, Natalie’,” Natalie intoned, turning on her heel and walking back towards the kitchen.
“Thank you, Natalie,” you and Yua intoned back in unison.
“I’ll make dinner. What’s it gonna be? Frozen meal of mac and cheese or frozen meal of Salisbury steak?” Natalie asked, facing the two of you. “Or… there’s tater tots. Or pizza… and we could make a fruit salad on the side.”
“Thank god for the fruit,” Yua commented, grinning. “I say you make the pizza and fruit. Gotta pretend Y/N is still trying to be healthy somehow.”
Despite laughing, you did think of how Steve would react seeing you eating all this processed food, the same day you had cake no less. Touching your stomach again, you rubbed gently, thinking surely Steve was trying his damnedest to see you too.
Word Count: 3,984
Warnings: Swearing? None? Fluffy
Summary: When James finds out his favorite proffesser has a daughter he can't seem to keep her from his head
A/n: I fuckin loved writing this, I wrote it all today and I'm now finishing it at 12:46 at night. This is #12 from the fanfic vote and got the second highest number of votes, hope y'all enjoy! Look at me posting twice in one week
Tumblr media
“Potter!”
James flinched slightly before turning around a large grin plastered onto his visage, “Minnie! So good to see you!” He cheered
The older woman rolled her eyes on instinct, “I told you not to call me that James. I am your professor you shall treat me accordingly.” she spoke sharply.
“Jeez, Minnie you seem more angry than usual.” The boy shuddered in his usual fashion; dramatically.
She sighed rubbing her temple with one hand, “Just come with me, Potter.”
“Yes, ma’am!” He saluted smile not faltering despite the nerves which now slowly consumed him.
The two slowly made their way towards McGonagle’s office, something James knew a bit too familiarly. As they walked everything he had ever done flashed through his memory, the thousands of school rules he had abandoned, the laws he had broken, pranks he had pulled. What was he in for this time? It seemed there were far too many possibilities.
The second that the door shut behind him he opened his mouth.
“Minnie if this is about the Grindylows in the prefects’ bath, I had nothing to do with it, I swear on my life. That prank was simply untasteful and you know I would never do something so dull.” He defended putting on his most innocent mask.
“Potter you aren’t in trouble, I simply- wait, what Grindylows are you talking about?” She asked brows furrowed.
The boy’s eyes widened, “Oh, um, i-it’s nothing you need to worry about.” He spoke his voice gaining false confidence.
Another exasperated sigh left the professor’s lips but she didn’t address what she was sure to become a problem, “I simply wanted to talk to you about your plans for the quidditch team now that you are the captain.”
“Ooohhh,” The boy nodded in understanding, a wave of relief washing over him. Excitement built in his stomach as quidditch was mentioned and he bounced happily on his heels a shimmer appearing in his dark eyes. “I can show you my workouts and plays and stuff if you want.” He offered eagerly, “I have some written in my bag.”
“That sounds perfect James.” She grinned, “Bring them to my desk.”
He nodded walking forward while rummaging for the notebook he had spent the summer scribbling in. He found it and placed it on his professor’s desk before opening it’s worn cover and flipping through the pages.
Both individuals quickly became immersed in the plans as the captain explained his workouts, strategies and more. In fact, they became so engrossed they didn’t notice a third figure enter the room.
You rolled your eyes as you heard your mother jabber about the sport she loved so much. You sighed walking up towards the pair being purposefully quieter than needed. You suppressed a giggle as you neared the duo. You stood just to the right of the boy who was crouched over his notes, you then leaned your head so your chin was resting just above his shoulder, you could smell the cologne he wore but ignored its sweetness. Your lips centimeters from his ear you spoke, “Whatcha guys talkin’ about?”
The dark-haired boy let out a shrill shriek as your mother gasped in surprise.
You burst into a wave of laughter doubling over as the quidditch star glared at you, clearly offended.
“You scream like a four-year-old girl Potter.” You cackled blinking back tears.
James opened his mouth to shoot back an insult but something stopped him. You looked oddly familiar, your eyes gleamed in a recognizable fashion, your smile all too common to his view. Despite this, he had no clue who you were.
“Merlin y/n!” the professor gasped, “That was uncalled for.”
“Sorry, mum.” You giggled, “I couldn’t help it.”
In that exact moment, James’ bain imploded. His jaw dropped, eyes growing to the size of saucers as if he had just been slapped.
“Minnie! You have a daughter!” he gasped, completely appalled by this new information.
“James! You have a brain!” You mimicked him, false surprise emerging on your face.
“Y/n, be polite.” Your mother scolded although it was hard to miss the smirk on her lips.
James wasn’t even bothered by the jeer, he was far too preoccupied with attempting to figure out what the hell was happening.
“It’s nice to formally meet you, James.” You grinned sticking out your hand for him to take, “I’m y/n y/l/n. Minnie’s daughter”
He shook his head quickly his hair bouncing slightly before he took your hand, which he found surprisingly soft and slightly cold, “James Potter.” He mumbled before turning to the woman who had returned to the notebook.
“Minnie!” He shouted.
You giggled at the nickname biting your lip lightly.
McGonagall’s eyes snapped upward dangerously but at this point, James was too shocked to care.
“Why didn’t you tell me that you had a daughter!?” He asked in complete dismay, “I thought we were friends!”
The witch simply rolled her eyes, “If you had paid any attention to those around you, you would have noticed I had a daughter years ago.” She spoke, seemingly unfazed.
“Minniiieeee. That’s not fair.” He pouted.
McGonagall shrugged.
“Oooo, are those quidditch notes?” You asked peering over James’ shoulder like an excited puppy. “Mind if I take a look?”
“Yeah sur-”
“No way.” your mother interrupted eyebrows raised as she peered over her glasses at you.
Now it was your turn to pout, “But mum.” You attempted to reason.
James choked in a breath as you widen your eyes and jutted out your bottom lip. Did you always look this adorable?
“Nu-uh.” She shook her head.
“Why not?” You whined placing your hands on the desk and leaning over it attempting to catch a glimpse of the ink-stained pages.
“Because last time I made the mistake of letting you ‘look through’ my quidditch notes, you charmed it and gave a copy to the Ravenclaw Captain.” She huffed, closing the notebook from your prying eyes.
James gasped again, “That was you!”
You nodded, smirking proudly.
“We lost the quidditch cup because of that!” He heaved.
You just shrugged, “Yeah well, we won because of it.”
He glared back at you, tucking the notebook protectively under his arm.
“Shit!” You swore glancing at the clock behind your mother’s desk.
“Language y/n!”
“Sorry, mum,” You yelled over your shoulder scrambling from the room, the door thudding against its frame as it closed behind you.
James opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by you dashing back into the room.
“I forgot what I came here for.” You groaned, “Where is my herbology textbook?”
McGonagall opened a drawer in her desk handing it to you.
“Thanks, mum.” You rushed as you snatched it from her and sprinted back towards the door.
“I still can’t believe you didn’t tell me you had a daughter.” James sulked, his eyes glued to where you had resided moments before.
McGonagal was met with a hell storm when James spread the news of his new discovery. That hell storm’s name was Sirius Black. He had crashed into her classroom while she was in the middle of a class and began his tearful act. He whined and gasped and pouted, stating his betrayal and his loss of trust.
The professor tiredly massaged her closed eyelids as his antics continued.
    Thankfully the other marauders were surprised but lacked the same gusto Black held, although James seemed to have a sudden problem on his hands. For some reason he couldn’t seem to pull you from his head, it was like you were cemented there, your giggle rinning in his ears as your voice echoed through his head. You were strangely captivating.
He wondered if that’s how his professor had been in her youth, although he refused to picture McGonagall as beautiful. You were simply alluring, your entire aura drawing him towards you. He wasn’t quite sure what it was but he found himself needing to be near you. He foolishly allowed himself to wonder if you thought the same of him.
Your heart pounded lightly as you snuck to the owlery, you fought a wide smile as you climbed the seemingly endless steps, taking them two at a time out of excitement.  When you finally reached the top you let out a slight squeal noticing your large barn owl perched near the door.
You whistled once and let it land lightly on your outstretched arm. You then carefully untied the thread from his leg taking the note in your hand and dropping your arm as your owl departed. You unthreaded the scroll and began slowly down the stairs as you read it. By the second line of words, your throat went dry. You could feel your heart beginning to throb painfully as the back of your eyes began to sting.
You sped through the remainder of the letter a sob ripping from your throat as the words sunk into your skin. Your vision blurred and you grasped at the stone wall to your right. The wind tore overhead, suddenly the pleasant breeze felt threatening. You crashed downwards, the stone step you sat on causing shivers to conquer your body. You let tears drip down your cheeks and slide off your chin as you raked your hands through your hair. Another cry unlodged itself from your throat and echoed around you. You pulled one of your hands from your hair slamming it over your mouth as you squeeze your eyes shut in mental agony. You bit your lip harshly bringing your shaking hands to your cheeks and wiping them dry. You gasped in a sharp breath blinking furiously to keep the tears at bay. Finally, you shoved the letter into your robe pocket and stood continuing down the stairs as if nothing had happened.
You saw this coming, you thought, you knew it would, why are you so surprised?
You shake your head blinking rapidly again. You slipped into the castle feeling emptier than usual, your heart still aching, your head starting to. You ran your tongue over your lips, feeling just how dry they were. Water rose to your eyes again and you swore, leaning your head back and squeezing them shut.
“Y/n?”
You snapped your head forward, eyes opening wide.
“Are you okay?” James asked walking towards you, concern etched into his sharp features.
“Uh, hey James.” You spoke attempting to sound normal and failing miserably as your voice came out in a croak. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
He didn’t believe you, he narrowed his eyes, “Are you sure?”
You coughed attempting to clear your suddenly clogged throat, “Yeah seriously, I’m fine.”
“You don’t look like it.” He responded eyebrows still furrowed.
“Thanks.” You muttered sarcastically attempting a small smile.
James felt his ears grow hot, hoping you didn’t notice in the dull light of his wand, “I-I didn’t mean it like that.” he spoke quickly, “I mean you look pretty today, umm I mean you always look pretty and uhh you just look a little worn out...But like not in a bad way! Just you uhh-”
Your giggle cut his rambles short, you bite your lip looking down at your feet, “You’re fine James, I was only joking.” You mumbled.
“Oh.” He replied sheepishly his cheeks flaming.
The hallway fell into an awkward silence, tension feeling thick, like the air on a humid day.
James coughed uncomfortably, “Do you want me to walk you to your common room?” he asked ruffling his hair, something you had the sudden urge to do.
“Yeah, that would be nice.” You smiled sticking your hands in your pockets. You felt the letter you stowed away in your hand and you swallowed another sob.
The two of you walked in silence, the only noise being your shoes on the floors of the castle.
Your mind reeled, the words replaying, still raw in your head.
You’re always gone at that boarding school. I never even see you anymore… I don’t know y/n/n we just lost something.
You could feel tears begin to well again, your world falling blurry.
 I just don’t love you anymore. I’m sorry.
You couldn’t hold it back anymore. You let out a strangled whimper halting where you stood and burying your head in your hands as your body shook.
James turned toward you in alarm, his heart throbbed as you cried into your hands attempting to muffle the sound. He stood there for a second before taking a step towards you and wrapping his arms around you shaking form.
You leaned into his touch, your head thumping as you wailed into the boy’s chest, your hands still pressed to your face.
“Hey, you’re okay.” James cooed as he gently ran his hand down your back, “You’re gonna be okay.”
He continued whispering sweet nothings in your ears, until you calmed a considerable amount, your sobs turning into shaky breaths and small sniffles.
Your face felt hot, embarrassment took you over as your head began to clear. You pushed yourself from James’ hold.
“I’m sorry,” You chocked out, “I must look pathetic right now and I barely know you and I’m a fucking mess, I’m so sorry James.” you gushed attempting to wipe your face clean.
James looked confused, “Y/n you have nothing to apologize for.” he spoke so softly you almost swooned.
You stood quietly shifting back and forth on your feet, unsure what you were supposed to do now.
“What happened?” James asked, “If someone hurt you y/n I will beat-”
You laughed lightly, “No one hurt me, James, I just um.” You took a large breath release it slowly, “I just got dumped.”
James's eyes widened, “Oh.”
“Yeah,” You huffed picking at your lips, “I mean it wasn't like I didn't see it coming, we had barely seen each other at all for the past year and honestly I don't think I have loved him since then, but we were together for so long, it just hurts. And I guess I’m just scared to be alone again.” You laughed bitterly at your own self-pitying rant.
“Did he just break up with you tonight?” James asked he seemed to hold a mixture of anger and concern in his dark eyes.
“Well umm, he’s a muggle.” You spoke awkwardly, “I just received the letter.”
“Oh.” James mentally slapped himself for repeating that word so many times.
You chuckled stiffly, “It really shouldn’t be that big of a deal, I mean I saw it coming, I just didn’t think it would happen this soon.”
“Obviously it’s a big deal y/n, you can be sad after a breakup.” He smiled down at you a certain shine in his eyes telling you there was more. “Do you still have the letter by any chance?”
You tilted your head in confusion, “I do.” You answered hesitantly, “Why?”
“Wanna burn it?”
You never wanted to do anything more.
The two of you sat shoulder to shoulder in the astronomy tower watching as the letter your ex-boyfriend had sent burned. You felt a sense of relief as it turned to ash, its words and meaning disintegrating before your eyes. You sighed suddenly feeling exhausted as if someone had flipped a switch and drained you of all your energy. Your eyelids became heavy, breaths became longer and soon you felt yourself drifting into a dreamless sleep.
James felt a light pressure on his shoulder and turned to see your head resting on it. Your y/h/c hair gleamed in the light of the small fire you had created. He smiled softly carefully brushing the loose strands of y/h/c from your face. He then leaned forward and pressed a kiss to your forehead, his heart thumping as his cheeks flushed red.
He softly shook his head, what was he doing?
You and James grew surprisingly close, surprisingly quickly. It was frightening how well you got along. Whispers coated the halls of some secret relationship that blossomed between you. You always laughed it off as James grew pink and denied it entirely.
The head boy had come to terms with his feelings for you the moment you fell asleep on his shoulder and he had been forced to carry you back to your common room solve an impossible riddle and get you in bed.
He wasn't as smooth as he thought he was when it came to you. When he had liked other girls it was easy, he would just make a few flirtatious remarks ad then ask them out, but with you, it was complicated.
First, there was the fact that you just got out of a two and a half year relationship. Then the fact that your mother was McGonagall. And of course, the fact that every time he tried to confess to you his words would get lodged in his throat and refuse to move.
Day after day he told himself he would tell you, he would share the feelings that lodged themselves into his brain and heart. But as cliche, as it sounded days, turned into weeks and weeks turned into months and soon he was sitting across from you in the library thinking about how badly he wanted to push your hair from your face and decorate your neck with hickeys.
But he kept his mouth closed cursing himself for every moment he let tick by which he didn't hold you in his arms.
When he hit month four Sirius said he was hopeless and Remus agreed. James had become completely intoxicated by you. The dreams he had of you becoming lewd, looking you in the eyes became difficult as he could only think of how your lips would taste.
Month five rolled around and James had decided he was hopeless, he had tried desperately to convey the message he kept bottled to you, but for being so smart you were extremely oblivious. Then the unthinkable happened.
“James, can you stay after class please,” McGonagal asked, her voice sharp, but her eyes soft.
James nodded numbly his mind wandering back to you, wondering if you had eaten enough for breakfast, you had slept in and only gotten there for the last five minutes. Maybe he would grab you a snack from the kitchens on his way to his next class and drop it off for you. Slughorn wouldn't mind if he was a bit late to potions.
The class was dismissed and he stood from his seat absentmindedly standing to leave.
“James!” McGonagall called and he snapped back to attention.
He walked up to her desk and stared at the women, deja vu making him blink rapidly.
“I'm not going to beat around the bush Potter, I know you like my daughter,” McGonagall spoke peering at the now blushing boy over her glasses.
James sputtered desperately for an answer, looking for a sentence to deny such a claim but he was cut off.
“James, I’m not here to hear your denial, I am here to beg you to ask her out.”
And his brain exploded again.
“She talks about you constantly, she cannot get out a sentence without your name being in it, it is simply ridiculous. Even worse you are getting spacey not only in the classroom but on the field. We almost lost our last game because you couldn't keep your head in the game. So please for both of your sakes, just ask her out.” McGonagall stared at the boy, looking desperate.
After a moment of silence, James spoke: “You aren’t mad that I like her?”  He chose his words carefully, not sure if he was on thin ice or not.
“No James.” The professor sighed, “If any of the boys in this school were to date her I would hope it to be you, I know you, you’re a good kid.” She admitted painfully.
“You actually want me to ask her out?” James asked hesitantly, unsure if it was a type of test or if he was going crazy.
“Yes, James.” She huffed, “Please just do it so I don't have to hear about how adorable you look in hoodies ever again.”
James flushed again, “Y/n said I look cute in hoodies?”
“Oh, Merlin.” She muttered under her breath, “Just do it James.”
And with that, he ushered him out the door.
You hummed quietly, music blasting far too loudly through your walkman, you lay on your back a book held above your head as you thumbed through it.
You didn't take notice of your roommate busting into the room, a giggle on her lips as she smiled brightly.
She called out your name twice, groaning and rolling her eyes before walking over to you and plucking the headphones from your ears.
You sent her a glare.
“Don’t glare at me,” She huffed, “I'm just here to tell you that James Potter is waiting outside the common room for you.”
“He is?” You asked. You were pretty sure you didn't have plans with him today.
“No, I’m making it up.” She scowled rolling her eyes.
“Okay, okay, I'm going.” You exhaled loudly pushing yourself from the bed.
You wandered down the spiral stairs waving to a couple of people who seemed to be staring. You noticed a few girls whispering something to each other before catching your gaze, almost looking… jealous?
You frowned before exiting the common room.
“Hey James, what’s up…”  Your voice died in your throat at the sight in front of you. There stood a blushing mess of a boy, a bouquet of bright yellow roses and daisies grasped in his hands. He was adorned in his school pants and dress shirt, a yellow hoodie thrown over it, his dark curly hair springing from underneath its hood making him look positively adorable.
He refused to meet your eye, his cheeks so red you swear they must have been on fire.
You felt your own cheeks heat as you stared up at him, his glasses perched lazily at the end of his nose as he stared at his feet.
He finally raised his gaze meeting your own and instantly regretted it. Your head was tilted slightly in confusion, your cheeks dusted pink, your eyes wide, shining with a doe-like innocence. You were simply stunning.
He pushed his glasses up his nose nervously and he spoke. He spoke the words he had wanted to say for five months.
“I think I’m in love with you.”
Your heart stopped, jaw-dropping eyes growing wider, you were left completely speechless as your mind reeled with the words he just spoke.
James’ throat went dry and he nervously fiddled with his glasses again, “I totally get it if you don't feel the same way, I just I can't stop thinking about you, and honestly I just couldn't keep it bottled up anymore.”
You just stood there. So stunned your mouth forgot how to move.
“Say something,” James spoke his voice practically a whimper.
You still didn't speak, you weren't sure you trusted your words at that moment, so instead, you took two steps forward and wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling his lips onto yours.
The kiss was messy at first, your noses collided at the speed you pulled James towards you, his arms soon reached around you, bouquet still secured in one hand as he straightened you and plunged his tongue into your mouth. He tasted like honey and cinnamon. His scent surrounded you, the soft odor of expensive cologne and the tinge of sweat.
You pulled away slowly lips still touching a moment after the kiss broke, breath mingling as you looked up into his deep eyes, you could feel yourself begin to fall into them, your heart pounding at an inhuman rate.
“I love you too James.” You whispered and the smile he wore was brighter than anything you could ever imagine.
Ever Since New York
A/N: Hello! This is my first HS fanfiction for the Playlist Fic Challenge hosted by @harrystylescherry. I didn’t specified any Harry era, you could imagine any Harry era you want to! I think this is also a reader insert fanfic, but well, hopefully it does. The pronoun I use here is she/her. I know this is not the real meaning of the song, but the actual meaning of the song triggered me myself, I didn't like to write about it, I'm sorry. If there’s any mistakes, please let me know because English wasn’t my first language. And if you’d like to give me reviews or talk to me, you could absolutely do it! Happy reading! XOXO, Syalma
“I’ve been praying ever since New York” – Ever Since New York
Things started in a place. And for Harry, it was New York.
New York City might not be the most romantic city in general public, but for the Harry Edward Styles, the city is a gift for him. The sweetest memory started here, in the city. When every now and then the city was always busy, but he found comfort in the middle of it. Something he previously never thought to find about in this city.
///
He was just shuffling through the crowd in Times Square. It was at night in the busy hour. He was wrapped in a thick jacket and sunglasses, and everything was so packed, even people, and anyone barely notices him. Which he was thankful about, because it was already a tiring day for him in the studio. It’s already late in his opinion and all he wants is jump on his bed right away. Or maybe a cuddle, even, only if he has someone to cuddle.
The thought stuck in his head, and that night, God given him what he wishes quietly. He bumped into a girl in the Metro. The girl turned around, rising her eyebrow in confusion. When she saw him, she started to freak out. Her head already in a negative view. She step aside a little, giving a space between him and her. He wanted to mumble an apology, before realizing the girl already stepping away from him.
She looks like she’s a college student, he thought. And before he knew it, she snapped her eyes at him alarmingly. He knew she can’t see his eyes staring at her like a lost puppy found its owner, but it surely already makes way to her instinct.
“Sorry,” he mumbled and turned away, locking his eyes at the ceiling of the Metro track.
He didn’t know, that ever since that day, she will be stuck in his daydreams, and out of the blue, making way to his songs and writings.
Ever since the metro, she’s all he thinks about.
///
Their faith tied together again. It’s lunch time and they both met again in the restaurant.
She was looking around the place to find one single unoccupied chair. Her eyes fell on two, one in front of a smoking men and one in front of the curly-headed men. She hates the smoke, and for the sake of it, she makes her way through the table.
“Hello, I’m so sorry to disturb your lunch, may I sit here by any chance?” she asked. The men turned around. He looks right back at her, with bright green eyes and hazelnut curls on top of his head. A moment of silence as Harry regains back his memory of the Metro girl he bumped into.
“I’m so sorry, if you didn’t want to. I’ll find another seat,” she brought her tray away, walking to the opposite direction from the table.
“Hey, um, I didn’t mean to. You can- you can seat here,” he nodded, chewing his lips. He has been thinking about her for some times, once he already got the girl, he messed it up by just looking at her.
“Oh— thank you so much!” she smiled brightly as she turns back to the table and set down her food tray.
They ate in silence for a few minutes, before he speaks up after a war with his gut.
But she did it first.
“I’m sorry, but you look familiar, have I met you before?” she asked.
His mind glued at her until he forget to answer it until she cleared her throat in a code to snap him back to reality.
“Eh, sorry, sorry. Yeah, we’ve met before. In the Metro, the men bumping at you at busy hour,” he scratches the back of his neck, like he always do when he was nervous.
“New York is really a city of possibility. Who knows I bumped into Harry Styles on a Metro?” she laughed. Harry’s smile makes its way back to his face. There’s something about this girl he was very fond of.
“You know…me?” he asked in disbelief.
“Of course I do. Like everyone else. I’ve been a fan,” she nodded.
“You didn’t, don’t get me wrong, look like one,” he stared at her. He wanted to hear her way of saying ‘I do’ in front of their families and kissed in front of everyone. With him.
“Well, I am. Not all fangirl looks like they are a fan, aren’t we? But yeah, I’m a fan. Dying to get a quick snap of you, but I figured you will quickly find my phone’s camera lens as soon as I snap it, considering your sixth sense of it and me sitting only separated by a table, so that might not be a good idea. And yeah, maybe I look calm outside, don’t be tricked by it. I freaked out inside,” she laughed. There’s something about the way she talks that makes him mesmerized by it. He gulped down.
“Do you want a snap?” he offers. Her eyes look back at him in shock. She slowly nodded. She offers her phone, but he already pulled out his.
He snap their picture quickly before he sends it.
“Do you have an Apple product phone? So, it will airdrop?” he asked.
“Eh, no, I have an Android, but I have my iPad with me. Give me a sec,” she pulled out a device from her backpack. She turned it on and Harry sends the picture to it. He glances at the name of her device. y/n’s iPad. y/n. A name he will remembers.
Looking at him glancing at the name of her iPad, she suddenly realized.
“Oh yeah, I’m sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m y/n,” she offered her hand.
“Nice to meet you, y/n. I’m Harry,” he giggled.
“Hi Harry,” she said, in a soft tone, that makes him wanted to listen to it for the rest of his life. They both laughed and continued their food.
Ever since the restaurant, he wonders if their faith will collide once again.
///
“Hello, um, no, that’s…probably not a good tone, you have to use the perfect charming tone. Not too low, not too high, not too fast, not too slow. Hey. That’s too informal,” he chippers in front of his bathroom’s mirror.
He didn’t know how much luck he could get right now. He got her phone number, for some weird connection only God knows exist. She was one of his mates’ old friend. Her contact was buried beneath his’ phone for ages and he managed to pull that out of his contact and have the courage to save the number in his phone and gave the girl he met by coincidence a call in one fine Saturday night. And managed to croak out a question in the middle of his nervous state on that simple call.
And fast forward a week, here he is standing in front of the mirror, practicing his line over and over while his nervousness ripping him off little by little. He doesn’t know how he have this whole luck of her.
His phone suddenly rang, snapping him out of his thought and sprinting to his phone as quick as possible. He pulls up the green button after glancing at the caller’s ID.
“Hey, Harry,” she greeted. Her voice ran down his spine and gave him a comfort he never felt before with anyone else.
“Hello,” he said. A dead silence for a moment before she continued speaking.
“Um, I don’t know if I disturb you, I’m so sorry if I do, but I’ve been waiting for about 45 minutes, and I wonder if you will go on the date or cancel it? Because if you want to cancel it, then it’s okay. I’m just checking.”
Harry looking up at the clock on the wall. The clock showed him the time that felt like a slap at his face. And her soft voice asking him in concern make him regret his own feeling. He was supposed to be where she is now an hour ago, he planned on coming earlier than her to make a good impression, but now he’s late, like really late. There will be no way she’s going to forgive him nor agree to go on the second date with him.
“Oh God, I’m so sorry, I– I just lost track of time, I’ll be there in a sec,” he stuttered. He push his phone to his pocket, ran to his keys, and flung himself to his Range Rover and hit the road as fast as the law allowed him to sped up.
He arrived in the span of 15 minutes from her phone call, panting and sweating, as well as nervous and panicking, scared to look at her face once she pulled up to the passenger’s side of his car. She raised an eyebrow before touching his bicep softly to distract him from his thoughts.
“Harry?” she asked. “Are you alright?”
“Uh- yeah, I’m okay,” he nodded quickly.
“You look pale and sweating,” she examined his face.
“I’m great, that’s just…my natural features,” he tumbled over his words. “Shall we go?”
“It’s okay if you’re not feeling good, I could just go home,” she looks at him with a concerned face.
There will be no way he will let her let out of his grasp. He was already in the edge of not getting her by forgetting the time, he won’t let her go home alone this time.
“I’m perfectly fine, we’ll go to one of my favorite restaurant,” he stated, the thought simply giving him a new pump of confidence.
“Oh, alright, we’ll go then,” she relaxed to the seat and buckled herself. He drives through the night glow of New York with Brooklyn Bridge and Miss. Liberty watching him. Watching quietly as Harry Styles trying his best to get the girl he dreamed of by picking up the rest of the pieces left about him in her that he already broke. And this city being the quiet paparazzi recording every step of him got the love of his life.
Ever since the date, he knew he will do anything to be with her.
///
He shifted in his sleep, making himself a little more comfortable, while scooting further to her arms. She wrapped her arms around his wide form graciously, mumbling something before inhaling his scent to soothe herself to go back to sleep.
They tangled together in her bed, sheets crumpling beneath their bodies. They didn’t need it anymore; each other’s warm presence was more than enough to keep them safe and sound in the summer night.
They have been official for a couple months now, 7 months to be precise, after him, being a nervous wreck having the courage to ask her to be his and his only. He was nervous, sweat covering his palm, and his voice trembling as he asks her. He doesn’t know how he did it, but he did end up driving home with her hand in his and a thin layer of her lipstick left on his lips. And when he got back to his own place, he screamed from the balcony to the busy road beneath, doesn’t even spare a glance at pedestrians looking up at him weirdly, or the fans started to clicking their cameras up secretly, or paparazzi recording him. In his mind, the world was just him and her.
His eyes flicker open, looking up to her, who sleeps peacefully. He stays there and just watching her breathing rhythm. He loves it when she got into peace like this, with no crease between her brows or an upset face painted on her beautiful face.
“Are you going to creepy stare at me forever or tell me what time it is?” she asked, her eyes still closed.
“Both, it’s around 1 in the morning darling,” he said sweetly, kissing her shoulder.
“Great! Now tell me everything you wanted to ramble on,” she said jokingly.
He knows she was joking, but he did anyways. He spoke up.
“I want babies, to cuddle! To squish their little chubby cheeks. How cute would that be? They will have green eyes and curly hair like I do, and they’ll have tiny smile that looks like yours! And we’ll squish their tiny faces and kiss them and we’ll spoil them with so much love and—and—and—Gucci!” he giggled after the word came out. Of course, Harry’s staple, Gucci, will be on the list of his babies.
“And we’ll put them in bear onesies I saw on Pinterest the other day! And we’ll paint the walls soft yellow, and we’ll get to cuddle them in our arms at night, and they will squirm in our arms, and when they wake up hungry in the middle of the night, I’ll come to them so you’ll sleep. And I can stop my work while they were little, could almost be packed in the suitcase I brought on tour! And when they got old enough, we’ll go around the world and they’ll meet a lot of people, will see the world in real life. And then…they’ll grow up,” he ended his ramble about babies in a sad face, realizing babies could grow up too, and they will not be so little anymore.
“And then, you’ll make more,” she ended the whole story for him.
“You? Why not— oh yeah, I’m sorry,” he looked down like a sad kitten. “We never talk about this before.”
“No, that’s not what I meant. We’ll be a little family, with babies like you want, yeah? Their little faces and cheeks, want to squish and kiss them already,” she fixed her words. He looked up at her again excitedly.
“And we’ll have kittens! Cute little fur balls in the couch!” he continued on.
He continues to talk about kittens. How cute they were, how many will they have, and how he will fed them.
“I love cats lots, but not as much as I love—” his eyes widen after he realized what he just said.
“I love…?” she didn’t have a single clue what he was about to say. And he was thankful for it. “Babies?” she guesses.
“No,” he shook his head.
“So…what?” she furrowed her eyebrows. “Working in the bakery?”
“You, I love you,” he finally decided to risk it all and said the three words that have been stuck in his mouth for the past months.
“I…Harry,” she said sternly.
“Yes?” he looked up at her like a scared kitten.
“Are you sure about those words?”
“With my whole heart, darling.”
“Like sure, sure?”
He nodded quietly.
“I love you, too,” she whispers right to his ears and kissed his pink lips.
His cheek and his nose flushed red. He couldn’t believe that he just did it.
Ever since that night, he knows he wants to spend evermore with her.
///
He was in LA again. Not staying in New York. It’s the fifth time he did it, with no preparation call, but just a quick text once he arrived. Leaving her confused for a moment before processing her boyfriend’s quick news. She was already living in his New York apartment he purchased for both of them, but he was barely there. At bright days, he spent it with his guitars, music, and studios, and at night he conquers the music industry concert. At weekends, he was busy to move around the world, too busy to text his girlfriend about his plan and whereabouts.
Today, she had enough of it. She stormed out of her class with angry fingers pressing the buttons of his number. Those all because he already sent the text ‘In LA babe, don’t wait x’. But who wants to wait for a week before he came back to NY, gave her a proper talk about his plan, and if he remembered about him having a girlfriend, plan on a date afterwards?
First call, doesn’t get answered. Second call, to voicemail after a few ringing. Third call, straight up to voicemail.
She grumbled beneath her breath, cursing, before trying again. On the last ring, he finally picks up.
“Hello, babe, have you gotten my text?” he asked.
“No, you come home tonight, or I’ll leave,” she said sternly. She doesn’t want to look scary by the people she met in the hallway, but her eyes says otherwise. But she didn’t care much. She cares about the fact that her lover just left her with a short text.
“Hey? What’s wrong with you?” his voice turned from bouncy and happy to a stern confused one.
“You’re the one that needed to be asked that way,” she scolded.
“Darling, I’m not going to be in the joke right now, I have some big stuff to do,” he frowned.
“OH, your girlfriend you just left in New York wasn’t a big stuff? Okay, don’t expect me to wait a week alone in that bloody apartment,” she huffed before hanging up as quick as possible, making sure she did it as he speak up explaining his problem.
He cursed underneath his breath when the call line got cut off. Jeff, reading his face, looked over.
“You okay, Harry?” he asked.
“Yeah, yeah, just…y/n acting up,” he mumbled.
Jeff didn’t answer, he just nodded before speaking to someone on the other end of his own phone call. While Harry tried his best to not thinking about his upset (and alone) lover back in New York, he just…failed miserably. At the time the clock strikes midnight, he gave up to his feelings and book a ticket back to New York.
He got into the plane at 3 AM, bouncy and a nervous wreck. He was scared of what might y/n does. Breaking up? Almost a bit dramatic, but doesn’t make it zero possibility. Mad at him? She does now. No need to wonder. Leave the house? She probably plan to right now. Driving at midnight and blasting sad songs in her car? Not Harry’s type, but hey, y/n is y/n. She could be doing that at this very moment. Getting drunk in a dive bar with her college friends? She was barely past drinking age, and she doesn’t like alcohol much, but everyone seeks comfort when they fight with their significant others right? Stress eating on McDonald’s drive thru or eating a tub of ice cream, crying over a random TV Show? It’s nothing bad compared to other possibilities, but he doesn’t want to know it was because of him. Because in each possibility, he imagined her crying and mad at the same time.
And when he dropped his bag at their apartment, the first view he saw wasn’t a crying y/n, an empty house, a drunk version of his girl, or a girl crying with an ice cream tub or McDonald’s packaging. Instead, she curled up into a ball in the sofa, must have been fallen asleep at some point at night, blanket messily covering her figures, and the TV playing a random bad TV Show. He went immediately soft by the sight in front of him, but he quickly remembered about his problem.
He didn’t want to wake her up and as bad as he wanted to curl up in the sofa and scooping her in his chest (because he know she won’t even think twice to push away whoever cuddle her without her knowing) so he went to the bathroom and cleaning up himself a little before moving to kitchen and made some coffee.
She woke up 30 minutes later, squinting at the light before fully aware of other people existence in the apartment. Her hazy mind translates it as a stranger, but once he dropped a pan and cursing, she knew it was Harry.
She pushed her feet against the carpet and walked towards the kitchen.
“Oh sorry, sweetheart, did I wake you?” he asked.
“Care to come home, Styles?” she didn’t even bother to say hi or answer his question.
“Love…I’m sorry,” he plead.
“No, no, that’s okay. I’m pretty fine alone here, with no company, and with my non-existence physically boyfriend,” she said sarcastically. “He was busy being a company to everyone until he forgot to be a company for his own girlfriend.”
“I wasn’t…I’m sorry, can’t you forgive me? I texted you, I let you know where I am,” he argued.
“That’s okay if you don’t,” she said before taking out her cup and filled it with water carelessly. “I’ve had enough of you anyway.”
It hits Harry harder than he thought it intended to be, so he grabbed her wrist and forced her to look at him, even with a disgusted expression.
And that night, they ended up cuddling on the couch and watching The Notebook with a huge tub of Haagen-Dazs in the middle of them. Half finished, with two scoops stuck out.
Ever since that day, he knew and promised he didn’t want to hurt her in anyway.
///
“Are you Mr. Harry…?” someone at the other end of his phone called.
“Who are you? What are you doing with her phone?” he asked aggressively. He felt sick since he woke up this morning, all he wanted was her to cuddle up against his chest.
“I’m Doctor Alex, and I’m from Brooklyn Hospital Center, are you Harry, sir?” he asked once more.
“What happened to her?” his heart sinks. He didn’t even confirm his name.
“I need you to calm down, sir,” the doctor finally gave up, assuming by himself who he was talking to was really the Harry in the girl’s emergency contact.
“What happened to my y/n?” he asked, rushing out of his bed, threw the comforter off his body.
“I’m sorry to inform you this, but you are the emergency contact in this phone. The girl, the owner of this phone, has been in an effective car crash. No relatives or friends with her during the accident,” the doctor explained briefly. “She’s in coma.”
Harry didn’t answer. His heart sinks, his soul felt like just left his body, his stomach dropped, he froze in place, he couldn’t believe the news, he didn’t want to. He wanted to wake up. Maybe this is just a bad dream, and when he woke up he still has her safely tucked in his arm, and smiling at him. And she will kiss his stubble as he stirs from sleeping, and they will stay like that for 15 minutes before the band called him and yelling from the other line about ‘discipline’ and ‘you lovebirds should’ve kept a clock to see the time’.
He hung up his phone as quick as he could and threw himself to his car.
He drove through New York City street in full speed. He doesn’t care about the laws he broke, how many tickets he will get once a police officer caught him. His mind got clouded by the doctor’s words. This time, Brooklyn Bridge and Lady Liberty watch him, not aiming for a girl’s love, but to aim a hope she will be his forever, not with a tie of marriage, but…he doesn’t even want to think about it anymore.
He parked his car messily and sprint to the front table.
“I’m Harry. Harry Styles. I’m…the girl in the car crash, I want to see her,” his mind can’t even form a perfect sentence.
“Sorry sir, who are you to her?” she asked.
“I’m her…her…boy-husband!” he almost yelled. The nurse knew he wasn’t even her fiancé, but from the panic in his voice, trembling frame, and a mess he is, she finally let him.
When he met her, she was inside a glass room, he wasn’t even get to be in the same room as her. He just watched her breathing heavily with an oxygen tank, the only thing that kept him believing she is alive is the beeping loud noise of machines stuck on her body. She looks miserable, bruises all over her body, casts on her arm, bandages, she looks so…fragile. He just wanted to scoop her up into a hug and kiss her, tell her she’s going to be okay, they’re going to have babies like they always dreamed of. They will have their first house, they will watch their babies grew up as much as he hated the fact that babies will get older one day, they will be old people in their 70s, but she will be the most beautiful girl he has ever seen in her 20s. But he can’t right now, and he felt helpless.
It has been almost 7 hours since he arrived and he doesn’t even spend a second take his eyes off of his girl. Nothing progresses much, but he knew she has to survive. So they could pursue their dreams together, just like they always talk about. At this point, all he wanted was for her to flicker her eyes open and look at him. And he will do the rest, he will pick her up whenever she wanted, he will kiss her, he will give her all the affection he has, he will give her all the love he has even until his heart bleed, he will hold her so tight so she will be always safe no matter the circumstances. He will do anything for her to just open her pretty eyes and look at him.
“If you aren’t going to eat something, you won’t be able to take care of her, um, later,” one of the nurses tap his shoulder. The crack of her end of sentence made Harry gulp down a lump in his throat. She knew her condition better than him. And he knew it, the crack on her word of ‘later’ doesn’t got missed by him. He nodded, the nurse’s words are true, she needed him to be okay.
So he took his time to go to the bathroom and wash his face, looking at the tiredness in his eyes, and he took some time to grab something from the cafeteria, a weird looking bread, looks like have been behind the glass display for ages, but he couldn’t care less. He shoves the bread to his mouth while running to get to her place.
“Sir, are you Harry?” a doctor rushing to his side. Suddenly he felt so empty. The panic in the doctor’s voice, his pale face, Harry doesn’t want to imagine what had happened to his girl.
“You might want to talk to her, she is going to be rolled to the operation room,” the doctor said.
Suddenly Harry felt weak in his knees. The bread feels like its going to threw itself out. He took masks and some weird gown the nurse handed him, and he rushed to her side. The beeping noises louder now he’s inside the room, but the only sound he could hear right now is her troubled heavy small breathing.
“Hi, darling,” he walked towards her with shaky limbs. “They- they said I could talk to you right now, I have weird feelings about it, but you are going to be fine. I- I will propose and we’ll have cute babies like we always talk about. I won’t leave your side again. We- we’ll have our happy ending.”
He kissed her cold fingers. It’s like the world were just the two of them again. No one around her. No weird beeping noise from the computer. No Harry Styles the popstar or y/n y/l/n the college girl. Suddenly they are just Harry and y/n again. Just both of them. In the room. y/n fighting for her life, and Harry, as helpless as he look like, helping her subconsciously.
“y/n, sweetheart, I don’t know if you could hear it, but I’ll be with you. I’ll be here, I’ll be by your side, you don’t have to be afraid, because your Harry will be here, honey. No matter how deep you fall, how hard the challenges, how hurt I will got, I’ll always be there for you. Your Harry will protect you, if it’s cold or hot, if it’s dark or bright, I’ll be by your side, kiss every single tears and cuts it will cause, and you don’t have to be afraid nor alone anymore. Because your Harry will be there for you. Always.”
And then he rolled out of the room. Out of Harry’s grasp, no matter how hard he tried to keep her close. She had gone to the room where her life will be on the thin border.
And Harry, with tired eyes and shaky breath, ran to the empty room outside the glass room and cried. Cried like he never did before. Cried until his tears dried. He dropped to his trembling knees.
“God, I-I know I barely talk to You. But this time…I beg You, please don’t let her taken away from me. I know she will be in no more pain, but I’m too selfish for it, I can’t live without her. I can’t function properly without her. I know I didn’t treat her the best before, but give me a second chance to take care of her. To smell her scent again, to kiss her hairline, brush her hair, give her all I could give, give her all the comfort she needed, give her all my love until my heart bleed. Just…give me one more chance, and I will treat her better,” his shaky voice somehow formed a proper sentence. His cheek wet with stained tears. His breath hitched. His chest felt heavy. He doesn’t even know who he is, when his girl still in the room. “Let me take one more chance to call her mine,” he let out a hitched scream.
After a long waiting and more tears spilled, when the clock told him it was 9 PM, she rolled out of the operating room. He jolted up. Indistinct chatter makes his head felt dizzy. But his main focus was her on the bed.
“Is she okay? What happened?” he could hear his voice yelling those to the medical workers, but he doesn’t even remember saying that.
“Sir, you need to calm down,” a voice called.
“No, no, I don’t need to calm down. I need to know if she’s okay!” he screamed.
“Sir, you have to,” the voice called again.
“Tell me what happened to her, tell me if she’s okay!” he yelled once more.
“Sir, take a deep breath and you’ll get to meet her,” the sentence made him stopped and slowly turned around. His eyes begging for explanation.
“Tell me how she is,” he whispered brokenly.
“She’s…you might want to see her, she might want you to talk to her,” the lady doesn’t even told him how she’s doing. And he knew it. He has only a few percent chance to have her wrapped back in his arms. And only God will gave him it.
The lady (soon he realized she is a nurse), lead him into a room. Not a glass room like she used to be placed, but a more private room, but it doesn’t make him feel any better because she was limp on the bed.
He walked in with shaking legs. The door closed behind him, and his knees gave up. He dropped to the cold floor of the hospital and cried for God knows how many times he had cried. His voice cracked. “Give me one more chance to love her again.”
Corpse: Never Saw You
Corpse x Fem!Reader
An idea popped into my head so I decided to write it. I'm not gonna just make up a random face and put it on him cause I find it so very disrespectful to give him a random face that looks the way you want it to. If Corpse ever says anything being uncomfortable with having fanfics about him, this will be removed. ENJOY!  I DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT CORPSE SO IF I GET SOMETHING WRONG LET ME KNOW!!!!!
******
*BEEP BEEP BEEP*  At exactly 7AM the sound of my alarm rang through my room. I moved my hand my hand to find the noisy clock. Finally turning it off, I groaned as I sat up and slowly opened my eyes. Maybe staying up until 5 in the morning when I have to be at work by 8 was not a great idea. Oh well, too late now. I quickly got ready for day the ahead and sat down to eat my breakfast.
"Yo, did you leave some for me?" Wyatt, my roommate and best friend of 12 years asked jokingly. I must've fallen asleep cause I felt Wyatt hit me on the head with a spoon. "Y/N, you good?"
"Yeah, I was just up late." I replied, pulling my phone out. 7:37 it read.
"I'm gonna start taking your books and notebooks at night." Wyatt said, grabbing his food.
"Yeah, yeah whatever." I said. I put on a video and ate.
"You watching Corpse again?" he asked teasingly.
"No," I answered. "it's Sykkuno so hush." Wyatt laughed to himself, sat down and moved my phone over so he could watch too
*Le time shkip*
I checked the time on my phone 7:53.
"Shit! Wyatt I got go!" I jumped out of my seat, grabbed my keys and bolted out. I turned on my car and sped off to work. Once I got there I ran inside, put on my name tag, I did more things that you wouldn't care to hear. I made my way to the electronics section and walked around to see if anybody needed help. I came across a tall man with curly hair so dark it looked black. He was dressed in black from head to toe.
"Hello sir, do you need any help? I asked.
"No, I'm good thank you." he responded, his voice deep and raspy. It sounded so familiar. I accidentally let out a gasp of surprise when it hit me. Holy shit, he's here! What's he doing at Target, let alone the one I work at. He looked at me, confused.
"I uh, um, well you-if y-you need anything don't be a-afraid t-to ask." I stuttered. I felt the heat rushing to my cheeks.
"Are you okay?" he asked, a small laugh escaping his mouth. God, that's adorable
"Y-yeah, I'm just...your v-voice kinda surprised m-me." I replied. Please stop stuttering already!
"Oh, uh sorry 'bout that." he said.
"Don't worry about it," I said. "it's cool."
"On second thought, I'm trying to get a new camera for my sister. Do you have a preference on what I should get?" he asked, looking into my E/C eyes.
*le time shkip because I'm lazy*
"Thanks for the help." he said.
"No problem Corpse!" I said cheerfully, well I was cheerful until I realized what I said. "I mean um, oh God uh." He just stared at me, a hint of fear in his eyes.
"You know?" it was more of a statement then a question.
"I-I'm sorry, I d-didn't want to say anything to s-scare you away." I said, looking everywhere but at him. "I promise I won't tell anybody, I'll pretend I never saw you." we stood there awkwardly for a few minutes when he let out a small breath.
"Please don't tell anybody. I'm not just saying this for me. I don't want people attacking a pretty girl like you to get information about me." he said. He's trying to help the both of us, God he's nice wtf! Wait, did he call me pretty? Awww I nodded my head, finally looking at him and smiling. He returned it and I could feel my cheeks warming up. He laughed a bit, enjoying the affect he had on me. I was burning now. Why's he doing this to me?!?!?!
"I guess I have to go now." he said, his smile slightly falling.
"Oh, uh well, have a good day." I said, starting to turn away.
"Wait," he started. I looked back at him confused. "could I maybe get your number?" I felt my cheeks get warm again HOLY SHIT, CORPSE WANT'S MY NUMBER!!!!
"Uh, yeah. Sure." He pulled out his phone and handed it to me. I hesitantly put my number in and gave it back. I gave him another smile before going back to work. OMFG I JUST MET CORPSE HUSBAND!!! HE ASKED FOR MY FREAKING NUMBER! AHHHHHHHH!!! I finished the day with a spring in my step, definitely the best day ever.
******
"Bitch, I'm home!" I shouted, entering the apartment and closing the door.
"Hey!" Wyatt greeted, giving me a side hug. "How was it?"
"Great, very very great." I said cheerfully.
"Really, what happened?" he asked.
"I got a customer that was really frickin' nice and they just made my day." I answered.
"That's cool. Wanna play Mario Kart?"
"Grab me a White Claw and five minutes, let me go change." I told him. I sprinted up the stairs and into my room. I shrugged off my work clothes and threw on some sweats and a tank top then made my way downstairs again. Wyatt handed me a controller.
"I'm gonna kick your ass." he joked, selecting his character.
"You say that everytime yet I always win." I said, choosing mine.
******
I grabbed my phone and scrolled through Instagram for a bit. When I was about to put it down, it buzzed. Looking at the text I started to blush.
