the visuals for the last like 20 minutes of atsv are my favorite things ever
specifically: the color theory
earth-42 is obviously striking on a whole nother level
Tumblr media
we tend to automatically think of red as the color of danger, but that's loud and passionate and angry. this haunting, sickening green feels more conniving and threatening and apocalyptic.
(if you think of color in disney movies, all the scariest, most cunning villains--maleficent, scar, ursula, evil queen, facilier, gothel--have either palettes or grand moments or motifs heavily utilizing green)
and something i always notice is that rio 42 looks just a little off, and it's because they reflect so much green in her eyes they look almost entirely green
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and, if this is your first time watching, you have no idea why the environment is made to be so deeply unsettling. let's look at gwen's dimension for a sec
being home is a really bad thing to gwen. while miles was doing everything he could to get home, gwen was literally dragged there--because gwen views her dimension as unsafe (ignore the trans parallels ignore the trans parallels ingore the tra
Tumblr media
it's dark. it has the same ominous rain. but you can tell it's 65. that bisexual lighting is unmistakable
i can't even go into the colors of gwen and george's argument because there is an image limit and i am lazy. but we know it's insane. the emotional peak of the scene is also where we see the colors most vibrant and changing the most abruptly
and when they have their beautiful lil moment, this is what happens
not only is it blindingly bright and trans colored all of a sudden, but the characters don their "true" coloring
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and even after gwen leaves, the scene is still bright, and familiar
Tumblr media
miles should be safe in his dimension. but we know he's not.
back to earth-42. well i mean we have these absolute visual bangers what do i need to say u get it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then there's this absolutely incredible moment where i would say miles is at his emotional peak (manic peak as well; i mean spot's hands and the infamous revenge line...yoikes.) and just like with gwen, the emotional high is where we see the most dynamic colors so coincidence i think not
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this next sequence is just one of the coolest fuckin chase-esq scenes i've ever seen. like the mumbattan one slapped but the pacing and direction and elements and epicness together here are just immaculate
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
another thing--miguel/ben's post is heavily shrouded in red. he's supposed to be ominously looming over exactly where miles is headed. buttttttttt~ when miles first crash lands, there is quite a bit of red, and as he gets closer to home, the city gets bluer and bluer with less and less red, bc yk he's not actually headed towards miguel/ben. woah. i make sense guys. i am a fart smella. i mean smart smella. i mean fart fella. i mean fart smella. i mea

Saviors, Suffering, and Isolation in Across the Spiderverse
Something that really stuck with me from Spider-Man Across the Spiderverse was the theme of suffering inherent in the hero narrative (and specifically the spiderman narrative) and how we can perpetuate suffering in our justification of it.
In the intro to the movie, Gwen gives background into how she became Spiderwoman. She explains the traumatic experience of inadvertently causing her friend Peter’s death and says that because of this she can’t have friends. We see how this has caused her to further suffer, forcing a wedge between her and her band, her and her father, and her and Miles. She is obsessed with not letting a loved one suffer at her hands in the same way again. Furthermore, she is okay letting herself suffer through isolation as long as her loved ones are safe.
Then, we meet Miguel, Spider Man 2099, who fervently defends his and his organization’s behavior as making sure some suffering occurs in order to prevent larger suffering. Miguel took over a different dimension’s Miguel, allowing him to have a daughter and live a happy life. However, this dimension fell apart because he was an anomaly and caused that dimension’s timeline to not flow as it should. After this, he forms the Spider-society, which is intent on making sure that anomalies are taken care of and, more importantly, that canon events happen.
This is where the main conflict of the plot arises, as a canon event in the timeline is the death of the police captain, who in Miles’s universe happens to be his father. Miguel insists that Miles has to let his father die, and rages that Miles has already helped another Spiderman (Pavitr) avoid that fate. This is not a surprise to Miguel’s character; he is tormented by his attempts to lead a happy life and therefore believes that suffering is necessary.
Tumblr media
However, what is striking is that all the spider-people seemingly stand by Miguel except Miles. The characters we know, namely Peter B Parker, Jessica Drew (Spiderwoman), and Gwen all support Miguel’s perspective. This seems wildly out of character for these individuals who we’ve seen be insistent on saving people if it is in their power to do so. But it is important to note that, besides Gwen, they’ve already suffered that canon event of the police captain dying. For them, that was a necessary trauma in their lives that allowed them to be who they are today. It is in a sense a passive justification. They did all they could, but the captain had to die. But for Miles (and Gwen), the death of the captain is something they’re being forced to allow or even facilitate. They have to make the active choice to let their captains, both their fathers, die. Miles is insistent that this is wrong, and that there is another way to live.
As a story centered on characters of colors (and minority characters given Gwen is implied to be trans in the movie), this can be seen as a message about how some communities or people of color treat suffering. That is, the belief in many minority communities like mine (Hmong) is that suffering is a necessary evil to endure for the good of everyone. They suffered, so their children must suffer as well. However, this mindset moves from a coping mechanism to harm when, upon finding no or a lack of suffering, we fabricate suffering onto others like us because we believe this is necessary for success. Instead of finding help, lifting one another up, leaning on each other, we lean into the suffering, the pain, and the isolation. We are unduly harsh to our children, or we don’t try to disrupt the unjust systems that harmed us, or we just let bad situations be.
The Spider Society may be a group of spider-people, but there is surprisingly little care being given to one another’s wellbeing. Instead, they all look at each other and empathize rather than offer real care. I understand rather than let’s understand together. The coldness of this community is made clear with how  harshly Jessica treats Gwen when she screws up, with how cruelly Miguel treats Peter (”I’ve had enough of you”), and most humorously with the therapy scene where the therapist spiderman rudely remarks, “Let me guess your Uncle Ben died?” The spider-people are all heavily traumatized individuals, and instead of healing they’ve worked themselves into a web of control and fatalism. By accepting that suffering as inevitable, they create the suffering of Miles.
As a daughter of a refugee, I grew up hearing the message that suffering made us strong, that it allowed them to be successful. Children who didn’t suffer were spoiled and grew up to be ungrateful wastes to society. I heard stories in my LGBTQ+ community about how young queers take things for granted and don’t understand how hard it once was. And when I suffered myself, I felt a similar urge to say that this suffering made me a better person. And this is so hard to fight because if you acknowledge the suffering wasn’t needed, that means you shouldn’t have had to go through it, that it was unjustified, that it was a random cruelty of the universe. And that is a tough truth to accept, because that means it didn’t have to be that way. Uncle Ben didn’t have to die for Spiderman to live.
In order to let our stories continue, instead of repeating the past, as well as help our communities Across the Spiderverse asks us to let go of the suffering and the belief we needed it. It is not what makes us heroes. It is not what makes us good. Instead, like Miles and Gwen (by the end of the movie), our heroism is in our love and our loved ones, and in the belief that there is a better way.

Noir hcs!! (+punknoir!)
These are based on BS and nobody can stop me because I’m the author >:)
Ok so this list also doubles as self promotion but we aren’t talking about that right now ✌️
Also content warnings! I’m keeping it light but like general warning for noir having poor mental health, nothing terrible or explicit brought up and hcs end on a light note
-he’s recruited to the spider society specifically due to basically his entire life getting shaken around like those little glitter water jars
-the events of itsv changing his mentality ->therefore changing how certain events were supposed to go
-he near exclusively shows up to use their infirmary
-he doesn’t get sent on missions due to not having a no-killing rule
-he primarily starts going by ben at first(not only as a differentiator for author) because he’s quite detached from his own identity as a person and needed a fresh slate so to speak
-now he just likes going by ben since hobie is the one that started it
-he goes to therapy with spider therapist. The bill goes straight to miguel
-he’s aroace, he has no fucking clue what the terminology actually is, just knows he’s got no romantic intention when kissing and holding hands
-punknoir. Need I say more?
(yes I need to say more.)
-he and hobie getting together is simultaneously a gradual thing and also just absolutely random. They get closer as time passes but there’s absolutely no beating around the bush when it comes to saying their feelings to each other
-he starts growing a pot of flowers shortly after they get together and is going to gift them to hobie when they start to bloom so they can plant them in his(hobies) universe
-hex codes. Something about them
-there’s a group in the spider society that write a newsletter about what he gets up to because people were interested and a little worried about him when he joined
-he does not know there’s a newsletter about him. There’s probably a subplot about that going on its merry way right about now
-he’s trans he’s so trans literally the most trans of trans look at him and his misery and tell me he isn’t trans
-on that topic he does not like his face
-he also loves hearing his own voice, he’s not gonna go out of his way to talk all the time but he’s really proud of the general control he has to get it that way. I’d be proud too actually
-continuing, he just passes so well when I think about it. Deep ass voice, pretty tall, and whatever his build may look like, he’s got a fire ass fit with that coat and hat and stuff
-speaking of the hat, he’s quite fond of it and has had it for a while, he likes to personify it for bits and quips sometimes
The post is getting a bit long so I think I’ll make another part at some point, if you enjoyed any of these I greatly recommend reading my series!! [Link] I put my heart into it and I want you all to love it too! Things are getting a bit busy but I’m working on another main work as well as outsiders pov with more of the newsteam
Take care all! <3

Who are your fav HN characters?
Ooo okay! I'll give u my top one from all the IP... It'll get long if I list all of them so I'll give the top 9 I have been in this fandom for 8 years help me
Also heavy spoilers for like.... The books... And the first graphic novel....
1. Obvi the main 4 kids from the books (Nick, Enzo, Trinity & Maritza) super super grew fond of them since book 2 and have made them basically my childhood version of a girl group from a cartoon show (think winx club). They really play off each other well, Trinity having this very lawful chaoticness with Maritza (also when Maritza tells Nick "Oh yeah we bribed the teen to like distract Ted for 5 bucks" that shit was SOOO FUNNY) and then ofc there is Enzo... Ough I have alot to say about Enzo, he truly turned me around and made me start loving like "The asshole frenimie" relationship he had with Nick and god does he and Nick steal the whole of book 2 with chapter 7 for me, and also just like the one thing I enjoy out of them is the fact despite how they can be investigating on Ted, they're still children and they're very flawed and likable like you don't have to take my word:
Tumblr media
Carly Anne West (The Author) really characterizes them so well and just god I love these four
2. I don't see these two tend to get talked about it's really sad cause like I really love the two, Jen and Allie from the Bosco Bay Graphic Novel HUGE SPOILERS FOR HN BOSCO BAY
Tumblr media
Something about the way Zac Gorman writes these two are so infatuating especially cause they were the FIRST to confront Ted about his negligence and willingness to hide about the disappearance of Joe (Jen's brother and Allie's cousin) also just off tell him girl:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Minor characters again from the books but in a way really needed uh.... (specifically) Luanne & Jay Roth and Miguel Esposito..... (Yes.... Nick's parents... And Maritza & Enzo's dad in the books their mom fucking oofed) I really love the breath of fresh air that is the adults seriously they are so fun and charming from Jay's sweet tooth that Nick has a whole list of every treat Jay will consume just on a thought, Luanne's literal grief that is her mom despite her anger when she found out her mom left Nick in a storage closet in the fucking SUPERMARKET WHEN HE WAS 4-3??? CHRIST???? Also literally Miguel is everything Theodore wished he was and told Jay off after saying Ted should be in a lawsuit after killing a 7 year old girl with his death machine rollercoasters (also he's a single father I love single fathers 🫶🫶🫶) they also really play off each other so well and honestly idk if I want to call them archetypes for parents who aren't aware of how their child feels cause like... You kinda get why they were so busy but they still care and will protect their respective kids and like ngl it really puts in perspective how Ted is kinda... A bad father in the books....
If I had to categorize then like... Here lol obviously yes Nick really holds a place in my heart (He's the reason I'm trans and I realize my own traumatic experience) but like seriously I LOVE to talk about the parents and Jen and Allie cause I feel I'm the only one who really love them
Tumblr media
Sorry if like I'm super uper rambly but it's soo fun to talk about them 😭😭

I've been thinking about this for a long ass time but fuck you I'm dropping my Spiderverse headcanons!!! I need this shit out of my system because I think about these movies a normal amount. Also be warned this is a long ass post, but enjoy my silly brain thoughts if you decide to read!!
Miles and Gwen are both trans, and later on form a t4t queerplatonic relationship together. (post movies) Rio and Jeff are both supportive of the two while Gwen's dad is a bit suspicious of Miles being from a other dimension, but he trusts his daughter to keep herself safe.
Miguel is a stealth trans man, and has been transitioned for years now! No one in the Spider Society knows besides Peter B, once they finally start dating much later on. Technically Lyla knew from the start, but she still keeps it secret (mostly acts as his reminder to take his t shots.)
Hobie has heterochromatia, but not the typical kind. He has sectoral hetero chromia, having a segments of brown in golden colored eyes. It's kind of splotchy looking, not truly a perfect cut color. Most people like to comment they look like Tigers eye stones, which he finds flattering.
Hobie also just labels himself as queer. He would technically be considered to be on the aromantic spectrum, but he's very open and will really just kinda go around with any friends of his if they're comfortable with it. He really prefers to have deeply formed bonds through platonic means, even if it's sexually (which he really does often.) That type of bond is much more fulfilling to him.
Peter B is in fact bisexual, and ended up divorcing MJ which is what lead him to getting with Miguel much later down the line. MJ was the one to also initiate the divorce too, Peter's life as Spider-Man was simply just too much for her and it only caused her way too much stress on top of her current job being a journalist. They still have shared custody of Mayday and they both get to see her often, making sure she is properly cared for.
Adding to that last one, Miguel also helps raise Mayday when she's with Peter and as she grows up she tells people she has a mom and two dads. Usually people's first reaction isn't always positive until she explains it but Pete finds it both very funny and very adorable that she considers Miguel a second father. It also gives Mig a chance to be a dad again after already losing his own kid previously, so Mayday kind of acted as an opportunity for him to heal from his grief.
This is less of a headcanon and I guess a general agreement but to me its a headcanon- I think Spider-Man Noir specifically is the oldest of the main group. He's been in the Spider Society for many years now and my estimate is he is about in his mid 40's by the time Across the Spiderverse takes place. Mig and Pete are both in their mid-early 30's, Hobie is 20 and Pav is 18, and the Miles and Gwen are both 15 and 16 respectively. Ages are all vague in the movies so I honestly just go based off of voices, behaviors, and general vibes for this one.
Since Noir is the oldest one of the group as well, he typically ends up being the mentor for any rookie Spider-People looking to learn some moves in combat. He is a very skilled fighter even for using a gun, he still knows how to defend himself an throw some punches. If Miles wasn't treated like a literal outlaw in the Spider Society, Noir would have mentored him and taught him some more proper fighting techniques so he can become stronger as a young Spider-Man. Miles has experience of course, but Noir sees much better potential in that boy that he would like to bring out in him.

lmao i fucking forgot to share this
not only do i have unorganized miguel heacanons but i have unorganized HOBIE ones too
i have unorganized random headcanons for all the characters i brainrot over these two are no different!!
identity headcanons first hehe:
hes trans. he probably diyed his hrt and also has top surgery somehow hes magic. (i also think he'd have tattoos over his scars, either super cool bat/devil wings or an intricate spider design on their whole abdomen cant decide ill draw it later 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉)
he, however, doesnt really have any specific sexuality or gender labels they feel like they fit into. theyre attacted to all genders of varying degrees but doesnt really put a label on it. he just exists.
also doesnt mind what pronouns you use for her. any/all. basically.
also also would encourage people to use the weirdest and coolest neopronouns they can think of for zem like REALLY go out there WHATEVER YOU CAN THINK OF.
ADHD haver?? MAYBE???
to the rest acaksdlfj;akdjf:
theyre very crafty and dabble in basically every form of art. music, graffiti, painting, sculpting (mainly with trash or scraps or random discarded items he finds, more on that later on), sewing, whatever. if he can learn to do it she will.
he is super touchy and likes being close to people, but also understand boundaries.
very emotionally intelligent, i feel like this is canon anyway but ill just put it out there, ze can basically sense if someone is upset.
LOVES ABSOLUTELY LIVES FOR talking to new people, will go out of their way to introduce himself to basically everyone, especially new spider-people she meets.
he is a bit of a joker, ofc, but he wont try and push boundaries that he clearly sees or hears from the person theyre talking to. hi people who hc him as being an unself aware dickhead shut up you are very wrong did you even watch the movie.
this one is probably my favorite but he will pick up random things he sees around him and keep them for art projects. cool rock on the sidewalk? its a rock, hes gonna take it. funny lookin bug? might pick it up for a little to look at it and put it back in a safer spot. bottle cap? "mine now". like i said before he likes using litter to make art.
he will stop mid-mission if he sees something cool that he can take home like "oh [riff] cool leaf" and put it in his pocket.
i was referencing this post btw i love this headcanon, absolutely genius, i will steal it ty /lhj
this stealing of random objects from all around the multiverse has caused many lectures for miguel (they arent listening)
they have some kind of control over what texture/color they turn into if xey really think about it but most of the time he just kind of.. lets it do its thing. (sort of like a RainWing?)
shockingly good at vague yet oddly specific threats that are unrealistic but if you really think about it it's like "oh yeah he could totally do that..." but she wouldn't. yknow what im saying right???
while he does live in the 70s where technology was uh... not as popular nor as advanced as they are now, he's aware of modern tech through Gwen, Miles, Pav, DEFINITELY through Margo and Miguel, but she doesn't really use it often. doesnt really see the point.
along with that he also is aware of modern music as well, he has mixed feelings (gwen is probably the biggest influence though she is such a Pinkshift/Paramore/My Chem girlie it hurts to think about)
100% collects record of artists, especially smaller artists, that they like.
if you get them going about music he will talk for HOURS. HOURS until you tell him to shut up, even though fae totally wont listen and will keep going anyway. (just like me teehee projecting is fun <3 )
while hobie does use his guitar as a weapon for some reason he is quite protective of it. they wont try and stop you from touching it or playing it, but he will watch you like a hawk. half out of "oo look another person is interested in guitar" and the other half of "👁️👁️ dont break it i can only do that /j" (a lot of musicians are like that, i would know, im one of them. ha)
loves stray animals. cats, dogs, birds, anything. he will stop to pet them if they let him.
he also will talk to cats like any other person. especially spider cat. spider cat could make a cat noise and he'd act like he understood it. "yeah totally man, i get it. meow."
he can sing like... averagely? he has a good sense of pitch and timing, as most musicians do, but she isnt professionally trained or really does it too often
they will scream though
also really likes messing with makeup and bodypaint. he will spend hours on it if he can.
FUCK I AM SO HAPPY I DIDNT POST THIS IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE I KEEP REMEMBERING THINGS ACK HERES ONE LAST ONE POST THIS AFTER ASH I SWEAR (edit from two weeks later: i forgor): he definitely isnt a morning person. he loves to sleep in. definitely values rest, like a lot. miguel will call him at like 7 am and hobie will flip him off and say 5 more minutes when they really mean 2 more hours.
do i have any more?? hmmm maybe if i remember but this is what i have so far. mostly just silly lil headcanons that arent entirely plot relevant as most of my headcanons are.

PLS TAG UR DISCOURSE
I just have to say this bc I started following some tags that have brought discourse on to my dash but after that I'm gonna block as many discourse tags as I can.
This weird ass way that y'all approach fiction by trying to sus out what trauma other ppl have so u can make sure they're a "good person" by ur own personal and arbitrary standards is also just incentivizing ppl to invade other ppl privacy and contribute to the rising surveillance state we live in. You all just cops. And no fellow black ppl that does not undermine police brutality bc these are all connected issues. Not when the threat of police violence is the first tactics used against anyone who ppl think they hold moral high ground over. And also I'm black trying to call the cops on me contributes to the threat or racialized police violence which happens to me bc I don't care what fiction ppl read btw.
Y'all are putting children in harms way by making them think predators are just ppl on the internet who don't have the same DNI criteria as them. Y'all are putting them in harms way by applauding vigilantism and sending them into the sights of ppl y'all are entirely convinced are dangerous predators.
Be uncomfortable with whatever fiction u want big bruh no one cares but damn stop invading ppls privacy sheesh. Y'all are terrible ppl u can sit on ur high horse all u want but causing harm to real ppl is always evil and I'm specifically using the word evil since y'all love to use a christofascist framework to engage in fiction.
If fiction effects reality then conservatives are correct when they say that gay/trans character made their child gay or trans.
"There's nothing wrong with being gay or trans" u might say and ur right but they still aren't wrong by ur logic. And we all know if u give them an inch...
If fiction effects reality why aren't more ppl empathetic and understanding even tho children's programming has been that way for decades.
If fiction effects reality why havent cartoons like Tom and Jerry had kids throwing knives and skillets at each other?
If fiction effects reality ur favorite video game just caused another mass shooting.
No more "but the jaws movie, cats can drink milk, rabbits eat carrots" first of all absolutely none of that has to do with the fiction y'all are so up in arms I legit haven't seen anyone try to ban any of those properties so it doesn't belong in this conversation.
Second yes pls ignore all the nuance with the jaws movie like how ppl were already reasonably afraid of and misunderstood sharks it's why the movie did so well in the first place, or the very recent shark attacks that took place during that time, or beach vacations being presented as an affordable option for middle class families, or pools being left abandoned bc of desegregation. Nope none of that happened just the movie and that absolutely turned regular ppl into shark hunters out of now where. Yup!
Ppl know very little about animals. It's why Disney can fabricate information in a documentary and get away with it for years. That isn't fiction effecting reality thats a dangerous mix of both a trusted source of information intentionally spreading misinformation and ppl taking this information at face value something y'all shouldn't even be doing when u watch or engage with ANY MEDIA. Ppl being on average incurious about things they see on TV doesn't mean their morals are gonna suddenly change. Also PROPAGANDA ISNT FICTION. propaganda is the intentional spread of misinformation presented as fact with the intent of preying on ppl fears and prejudices. And it can come in all forms but it SHOULDNT be classed as fiction even when presented through fiction.
If fiction effects reality u can't like fictional serial killers or u apparently will be batting for the next ted bundy. So no more tojis self shippers.
If fiction effects reality all u Miguel lovers better be careful around an irl child abusers u might fall in love. Also the way y'all hate proshippers but are romanticisming a man through his interactions with a teenager is YIKES... OKAY
Also dark fiction isn't the only thing under attack any more. The more chronically online are definitely still yelling about lolisho or whatever but it's spread to the more average consumer and now ppl are attacking just regular old furries again. Which has given me whiplash to witness it's insane. Ppl are legit bullying furries again.
Not to mention the antis in the furry scenes whose entire logic is "if ur animal looks too much like an animal u must like animals"...okay...and something about animal genitalia also.
Everybody so creative!!! So many rules for how to make the most morally righteous fiction so everyone knows ur a good boy who says his prayers.
ALOT of y'all are still religiously programmed to believe ur bad thoughts are satanic. And anyone who has them must be demonic. It's scary how many religious wording y'all use.
Theres a reason why everytime one of y'all go on a tangent about how Japan is full of sick freaks the ppl applauding u are other teenagers and xenophobic white nationalists or teenagers on their way to be xenophobic white nationalists.
There's a reason why sasaki and Miyano got banned before any of the weird gross stuff y'all hate.
There's a reason why while y'all were applauding a furry porn site being blocked in Virginia and in that same anti-porn bill was anti trans sentiments.
There's a reason why payment processors are slowly making it impossible to monetize sex work but starting with all the gross fiction y'all hate and y'all are cheering but aren't realizing that payment processors ARE DICTATING WHAT U CAN AND CANT BUY WITH YOUR MONEY.
There is no amount of influencing a show can do to make someone into the pedophile, rapist, abusers y'all keep claiming ppl are. UNLESS they are already a pedophile abuser or a rapist which is ONLY known if the express the desire to harm real ppl or have already harmed real ppl. Also u can't bully a real pro contact pedophile into not being a pedophile btw!! They do not care, they usually commit multiple offense leave prison(if convicted) and DO IT AGAIN. there is usually no shame involved so no amount of "ew a PDF file 🤢🤮🤢🤮" is gonna stop a real predator like y'all are not only wasting ur breathe but also look really weird being scared to use the correct terms.
I say all this to say. I'm tryna make art and have fun here but Jesus following my fave tags has me inundated with discourse all of a sudden. Can y'all like TAG UR DISCORSE AS DISCOURSE so I can follow the tag but block ur crazy ramblings??? 😭 PLSSS TAG UR DISCOURSE I DONT WANNA SEE IT!!!!!

HEY GUYS
Finals where kicking my ass, so the trans!atsv headcanons will be coming out a lot later than expected, I'm still working on them though so don't worry !!
In the mean time, I made some silly little insta profiles for a few of my favourite spiderverse characters !
side note, do we have a name for the spiderverse cinematic universe? Outside of the MCU, I know they're part of it but I want something to refer to the spiderverse plots specifically. ITSV, ATSV, and BTSV all refer to their specific movies, and spiderverse is annoyingly long for my ADHD brain to type out. Maybe we could call it SVCU, for "spiderverse cinematic universe"?
Tumblr media
Spider-Gram, the multidimensional social media platform for spider-people of all kinds. Owned by Miguel, mostly run by Lyla.
Peni Parker
Tumblr media
models fashion in her spare time, not for money she just likes trying on cute outfits. Outside of that she posts a lot of pictures of Spider and any cool landscapes she comes across.
She has the most followers becuz she has actually interesting content with her fashion shit, and none of its pervy she's a teenager who likes clothes don't make it weird. She doesn't do suggestive shit just genuine fashion or styling types.
Spiderman Noir
His username includes the earth he comes from becuz he's a professional.
his story is just rubix cube shit, he owns a bunch of different kinds. Posts are mostly Peni, his honorary adopted child.
He didn't write the description on his profile, Hobie did. I headcanon then as best friends aka Hobie annoys the shit out of him and he's completely fine with it. He only follows Peni + Hobie ofc.
Tumblr media
Gwen Stacy
When writing her description I was going to change it to something else because the joke was super dumb, until I realized that it totally fits her character.
She follows a ton of people but doesn't post so doesn't expect to be followed back. Miles, Hobie, and Jess are her three followers.
She doesn't follow Miles back because I feel like it fits with the whole premise of the second movie, and Pav was going to follow her but couldn't find her page and never bothered to ask about it.
Tumblr media
Pavitr Prabhakar
He follows all his friends plus some, except Gwen for reasons stated above and Miles-1610. He was following Miles at some point, but 42 removed all three of 1610's followers for shits and giggles once, Pav never noticed.
He posts the most out of all of them, lots of memes honestly but sometimes pics of his friends. He's not technically "part of" the band, because he doesn't play an instrument or anything, but he helps them write songs and shit so it still counts.
Tumblr media
Miles Morales (e-1610)
Hobie Brown
posts dumb pictures of himself (and often Pav) that get sent in their group chat as well as cool pictures of himself that he says he only spent a min taking when he actually spent at least 3 hours on the setup alone.
he's following the following people ;
Miles - 1610

isn't verified because Miguel runs the app, followed all his friends but only Hobie and 42 followed him back. Was following Gwen but unfollowed her when he was the only person she wasn't following, becuz he's petty like that and they're still fighting.
He only has two posts because he didn't know the app existed until recently (everyone conveniently forgot to tell him until Hobie spilled the beans, Pav genuinely thought he alrdy knew about it)
the people he's following because I spent forever counting this out and you deserve to know ;
Hobie Brown

Spider-man noir
Margo Kess

doesn't post regularly, when he does it's just cool pictures of himself.
Only agreed to match with Miles so he would shut up about it. He def pretends to hate him but he's also the only person that he follows back.
Mayday, Jess, Margo, Miguel, and Lyla next ??
I loved making these and have ideas for more characters so if you guys wanna see them shoot me an ask !!

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Review
I'd like to unload the hundreds of thoughts I'm having following our viewing of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - that is to say, this will contain a plethora of spoilers, so be warned! No safe harbour beyond this point!
Firstly, wow. What an incredible film! Everything was spectacular, and I wouldn't expect anything less. When I went to see Into the Spider-Verse back in 2018, I was blown away by the pure tenacity of the filmmakers, who really went above and beyond with the film. The technical make-up of this film is unlike any other - simply unparalleled in its quality, style, and performance. Each and every artist should be proud of themselves for their contribution to this film; they are at the forefront of art and of cinema itself. And that isn't hyperbole.
I want to talk about the plot first, specifically how Miles' story was told in this film. We have a fair amount of narration from Gwen and her perspective on the events, which I think added a really wonderful dimension to her (pun not intended), as well as letting us see Miles through the eyes of those he has had an impact on.
Miles Morales is different, even for a Spider-Man, and I think that the film really broadened our understanding of him: who is Miles Morales? The question is asked, in more or less those exact words, throughout the film. Miles didn't tell us the answer, but he sure as hell showed us.
Every new character introduced was phenomenal - I especially loved Hobie and Pavitr, who were so stylish and interesting. I'm looking forward to learning more about them in the sequel! Hobie in particular was of interest to me, with his anti-capitalist views and pro-anarchist perspective. It may sound as though he was played for laughs, but with the "Protect Trans Kids" pride flag in Gwen's room, the "#BLM" badge on Miles' bag, and the subtly anti-police undertones of the film itself, it is clear where the filmmakers stand.
The ending of the film was jaw-dropping to say the least. As soon as we were told Miles had ended up in the wrong universe, I knew where things were going. So, universe-42 Miles is Prowler? Interesting, to say the least. Only time will tell if he is truly a villain, or if he took up the mantle as a vigilante alternative to Spider-Man.
Miguel O'Hara made it clear that he believes universe-1610 Miles (our Miles) to be an anomaly. I've talked before with people about my perspective on time travel in films - there are multiple ways it can be done (I have a point here, I promise!). One way of representing time travel is to have a linear structure, with every "anomaly" creating an entirely new universe. Alternatively, there is (what I refer to as) looped time-travel, where the events that happen were always supposed to happen (a glass knocked over by someone time travelling was always meant to have been knocked over, for example).
Personally, I'm of the mind that Miles is not an anomaly, he was always meant to be. Nobody could have prevented universe-1610 Kingpin from creating the reactor, and if he hadn't done it, another universe's Kingpin would have (that's rather the point of infinite potential). Therefore, the continuum would always have been disrupted, and Miles would always have become Spider-Man. Sure, it's an incredibly small percentage chance, but it could happen, and it did happen.
In any case, I fully expect to see a resolution in which The Spot (voiced by one of my all-time favourites, Jason Schwartzman) is either put in a position where he feels he belongs or, alternatively, manages to wipe himself from existence by being everything and nothing. No doubt that, if he is not already, universe-42 Miles will become the protector of his realm, be it as Prowler or something else (Spider-Prowl? Prowler-Man?). And hopefully we'll see a resolution between Miles and Gwen!
In terms of the animation, as I already stated, it was beyond the limits of what I thought was possible. Admittedly, I'm not an animator, nor am I familiar with the technical complexities of it, but the mix of styles was surely enough to demonstrate the sheer willpower and talent of these animators.
This isn't even to mention the live-action elements, or the LEGO dimension. Slotting characters of different styles into universes that both compliment and contrast them was downright exciting to watch. The pacing left you with the breathing room to assimilate every new fight, whilst never letting you get bored - there was always something new on the horizon.
I am, simply put, astounded by this film. I was apprehensive to see if it could outdo the first one and - though I definitely need to watch it a few more times - I am fairly certain it is on a par with, if not better than Into the Spider-Verse. The true test will be whether they can stick the landing with Beyond the Spider-Verse, but honestly I have no doubts that it will be equally spectacular.
Knowing how much time, effort, and love went into this film is so apparent in every frame. The wit of the script, the technical effects, the voice acting (shout out to Daniel Kaluuya, voice of Hobie, for his excellent performance) were all sublime and well-worth every penny we paid for the seats.
Thank you, Spider-Verse, for pushing the boundaries of creativity and managing to wow me at every turn. I can't wait to see what is next for this cast of characters, and for those leading the way in artistic development.
[Note: Realised I forgot to mention the soundtrack, which was every bit as amazing as you'd expect! Daniel Pemberton is probably my favourite film score artist - Miguel's theme was perfection!]

@vigilanterenaissance here (apparently tumblr doesn’t you send asks from your side blogs… bummer)
for your 2k celebration i have like soooooo many ideas lol i decided to compile one ask instead of bombarding your inbox 😅
would you ever consider writing a moon boys/reader/layla piece? it’s like my bisexual dream 🩷💜💙
steven and miguel?? hello?? i need more info like, yesterday 😳 i keep picturing overprotective marc and jake looking at this 6’9” guy as wide as a fridge with claws and fangs and going ‘absolutely not’. the extra tension of steven thinking miguel is hot cause he sort of sounds like marc, or that he speaks Spanish like jake? chefs kiss
for blurbs, i would die if you wrote up a few ‘steven with a transmasc reader’ hcs,, only if ur comfy with it of course!! 🤗
congrats again on reaching 2k!! im so excited learn more about the novel ur writing too <3
Heyyy! Yeah I'm hoping they'll let you send asks from your side blog at some point hahaha but this is okay for now!
Okay so I'm gonna break down your ask below the cut :P
Tumblr media
It's not that I wouldn't consider it, I would just have to be really inspired to do something specifically like that. I def think Layla is hot, don't get me wrong (I am bi after all), but I don't really have much interest writing wlw personally. It's not to say I won't ever write it, but I'd have to get like the best idea ever for it to excite me enough lol.
Eeeeeee I wrote some headcanons here. I'll def be exploring this ship more when I get a chance I promise. On a side note to what you said about Jake and Marc being "absolutely not" about it...Steven comes in with "no I wasn't sayin' I was going to do anything with him, just that I thought he was rather charming, that's all..." - Flash forward to Marc waking up a couple mornings later wondering why his bumhole is aching 👀
It's not that I'm uncomfy, I just don't want to misrepresent. I did some research so I think I know what "transmasc" means but if someone who is either in the trans community or well educated in it could please let me know that would be great. I think it's when you have a vagina and possibly even breasts but identify as a man? I just wouldn't want to make a mistake on that. If someone also wanted to volunteer to proofread my headcanons prior to me posting them that would be great. I would honestly hate to say something insensitive on accident. I don't think I WOULD say anything insensitive, I'm very careful, but just in case! I know there's a severe lack of trans rep in media all over so I'm happy to write a little here and there if I'm feeling inspired to!
Thank you for the love and the ask babe! I'm super excited about the novel too. I'm going to keep posting more as I work on it!

For a change of mood, can we get your queer/pronoun HCs for the Spiderverse cast so far? I love you platonically!
Aw thanks! I care for you as well! (also you help prove my point that people come to me asking for my opinions lol, so thank you for that!)
But uh, I don't really have any queer headcanons outside of what has already become known on this blog lol. For some reason I just can't put effort into making headcanons for these characters. I think it's because they are a lot more established than the NSR characters and have lots of lore behind them.
I'll try to give what I do have so far though! Maybe a new one will pop up while typing this.
-Peni using kit/kitself pronouns
-Hobie using it/they pronouns mainly
-Actually, I like aroace Hobie too! Put that one down for me as well!
-Miles being bisexual
-Gwen is straight and trans
-Ganke is probably gay. I have a few asks with him I still need to answer about that I think.
-I don't personally have this, but there's an ask for T4T Pav and Gaya which I think is super cute (and hope to draw for so sorry that hasn't been answered yet).
-Peter Porker being genderfluid, or like some kind of genderfluid (like librafluid or something like that on the agender spectrum).
-I don't know anything about Jessica's lore, but I like the idea her husband is a transman and they used IVF or a sperm donor for Jess to get pregnant (Jess sees herself as straight but she is in a queer relationship so kinda counts for this)
-There was an ask about Miguel being a lesbian that I kinda liked (another one I want to draw for). Though I think personally I won't be using this headcanon, it is a cool one to think about like the T4T Pav and Gaya one!
-Noir being agender. Or somewhere on that spectrum. I forget what an asker sent in for a specific label, maybe it was agender switched from NB (or the other way around), either way they/them Noir!
-Honestly T4T MJ and Peter B is one that I might lean into
-Lesbian Margo is one I am thinking of leaning into as well (mainly because someone sent an ask for Margo and Tila which I honestly think is so cute and again want to draw that).
-Also Peni and Yinu becoming a couple (another ask I got) is something I can see happening (Yinu in the NSpidR AU is about 13 going on 14 and Peni would be about 14 going on 15, somewhere in that range. Similar with Margo and Tila, Margo is like 17, maybe 18, for me while Tila is 18 maybe about to be 19 if Margo is 18. I don't have set ages honestly).
-Um... I don't know, I kinda like the idea that the Vulture is a gay old man that acts like those two muppets that make fun of everyone lol. Him and Elivy could talk mad trash about stuff hehe
-Olivia might be an aroace lesbian.
-I definitely think Jonathan has some queerness to him but don't know exactly what (now all I can think of are glory hole jokes lol!)
So yeah, I think that's all I got. Got a few new ones along with acknowledging some asks I got from a while ago I do plan on trying to answer at some point. Honestly most of these were from asks that I got from other people and I just absorbed their headcanons into my canon lol.
Especially that Peter Porker one! I initially was gonna have him be the cishet one of the group but then the whole looney tunes/bugs bunny genderfluid thing came up and I just had to incorporate that!
Anyway, thanks for the ask! My inbox has quite a few asks I plan to answer (and to not answer) so hopefully I can get the ball rolling on those! I just am also trying to draw a comic, get commissions done, redesign OCs and get a job. So a lot of stress, but I'm overall happy! (and now I'm just full on rambling lol. Have a good day/night! You deserve it!)

SPIDER MAN INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE REVIEW
Ah yes, In this day of constant remakes and revisions of old stories. It can be hard to find good media, luckily Spiderverse wasn’t one of them.
Here I’ll be talking about the movie in depth, if you want avoid spoilers just go the very bottom to see my recommendation and number rating .
PRAISE
As per usual, the animation was fantastic with the mix of 2-D graphics and 3-D, alongside other great features of styles like paper cut outs and even stop motion. Every character has a great design, and the music was incredible! Specifically for Miguel who has a digital sounding horns, I find it cool that it almost sounds like a mariachi band but in the future which makes sense considering Miguel is Spanish descent and also from a sci-fi background.
The story is also pretty solid no big plot holes, in fact there was a solid conflict in the narrative of saving people. In the movie miles wants to save certain people but can’t due to events call “canon events” this a reference to canon which is what is real in a story. In spider-man universe every character has certain emotional events they need to happen in order to keep they’re universe in tact. If one doesn’t let certain events happen than it could lead to the entire death of a universe- miles in specific has to go through his father dying, or else the universe of his own could collapse. Miles’s universe is specifically important due to the fact he was a first “glitch” in the system meaning he was the one who started the process of connecting different universes which potentially means that if he messes up his canon event it could mess up the entire web universes altogether.
This conflict is great and understandable, while you can see why Miguel does what he does, it doesn’t mean we think that miles is a idiotic in his actions. Almost any teenager would probably have a hard time understanding or even thinking about losing a father, this is especially seen in how he is shown to have father issues so having him die suddenly would make his lost hurt more. Never being able to tell he is Spider-Man or that he could make it up to his dad before his death would be devastating.
I also liked the characters in this one as well, we got at least 3 new main spider-man London spider-man, a punk rocker who looks like a magazine cut out. Indian Spider-Man which is probably the newest member only doing 6 months of super work, and lastly holographic spider-women a girl who is a tech genius but she doesn’t get that much screen time.
After those characters we have recurring ones as well, Peter b Parker, or brunette Spider-Man. Turned into a dad and has a baby daughter, and gwen who comes back from the last movie. All do pretty great but I must say that gwen takes up too much screen time even if she is my favorite character. She is probably the second main protagonist in this movie, I can see the reason why though as she does some things that could be seen as very disagreeable like lying to miles constantly about important issues. Showing her perspective can help us understand her intentions of why she did so she doesn’t look too villainous and she is also heavily implied as the love interest.
Now with my long praise I will have to say my critique of this movie and talk about any pet peeves I have
Tumblr media
CRITICISM
now people on the right are probably wondering “it might be good but isn’t it filled with political fluff?” I would definitely say yes, there is certain Easter eggs and dialogue that can definitely seem SJW and make it clear where a majority of the artist in the movie lean towards. Examples would probably include, a lot of BLM pins and trans flag in Gwen’s room and pretty much all of spider-punk’s character. Now while this might be in the movie, that doesn’t feel like a big reason to not watch it, I highly disagree on the stances that BLM and what Gwen’s flag says. (I’m a nun after all) Yet that doesn’t mean I won’t watch it, because these political and real life issues are quite literally in the background of the story and trying to convince me to agree with the stances. I know a what a person said about SJW that I highly agree with “you can have SJW artist and character and even writer, but all of those can be done good. As long as it isn’t a SJW story” This quote is pretty good in saying how they’ll always be artists and writers who lean toward a certain political angle and even characters themselves but as long as those characters are in a story that can enjoyed than it’s a story worth telling. I agree, one can highly disagree with one’s political viewpoint and still enjoy they’re work if it’s good.
I will also say that it isn’t all SJW propaganda, in the story both Gwen and miles have father figures who are policemen and are seen and looked up to in the story. Fatherhood is actually shown a lot in the story which I love as we don’t see many father and child stories as much anymore. There’s also at least a some better justification for being so left-leaning, spider-punk is a rocker who is an loves anarchy and going away from authority so it makes sense he would be be radical and all social Justice like- this goes with Gwen as well, as she’s a girl that probably is all rock band like and hangs with hobie so will probably have a similar viewpoint as him.
Now with those political fluff explained, I will talk about aspects I dislike. First Peter B Parker bringing his baby around is a bit annoying to me, why bring a baby you love so much to a battle? The movie even points out how this pretty bad parenting, it’s the same for the pregnant spider women who I don’t even know the name of. Because she was in the movie for so little, both are equally silly as I really don’t get putting you’re child in danger like that. Peter B Parker is probably much more annoying as it’s also clear his wife didn’t want him to go with the baby either. The only reason I feel it put here was because of that seen where he says “I made her because of you” or another is that in the comics there has been an ongoing frustration with Peter Parker not being happy at all and fans wanting him to just have a family finally and start his life as spider-dad. So maybe this is a fan service for comic readers who are tired of a cesspool of Spider-Man suffering.
The movie is also 2 hours and ends on cliffhanger, it’s been ongoing trend of movies doubling runtime to 2-3 hours on average and making it a part 1 or 2. Likely to have more justifiable reason to come to theaters but doesn’t make it any less annoying, I like movies that have a story that can be finished up in a whole movie. The only reason I let this movie slide is because it’s animated and it’s rare for a runtime of 2 hours for this kind of medium.
Lastly this is a nitpick, but I am a bit disappointed at how we didn’t see the other spider people from the last movie. Penni Parker was a nice edition and people know I love Nicolas Cage as noir. So seeing them only at the end of across the spider verse makes me a bit disappointed.
Tumblr media
CONCLUSION
Overall spiderverse was a good break from the MCU and Disney in general. Showing how superheroes can never go out style with a good story and visuals as a cherry on top. I recommend this to everyone. For families I will say that 10-17 is a better age group for Spider-Man across the spiderverse but if you’re more loose on ratings than it’s not too bad if younger kids watch it.
I will say that there are a lot of bright colors and lights so for those who have sensory issues, test out with a few YouTube clips before you go to theaters as it is flashy. Overall 8.5/10 a good sequel.

OMGOMGOMG
AND CAN I JUST THROW IN
Moche has to take periods of mandatory rest, like her powers go dormant, she has to self isolate, no large stimuli and ect and if she doesn't or gets disrupted it's like REALLY mentally and psychologically disorienting. Like... For mental health sake
And I know it may not be the same because cramps are like such a specific type of pain that is so specific like stomach ache hacks and hot water bottles just DON'T work
But Moche would try to leave Asa stuff to help - but she's REALLY BAD with people and would ask Lyla what to do.
AND SO OF COURSE HER FIRST THOUGHT IS 'ah yes, I must weave him a blanket. Because textiles mend ALL problems.
Tumblr media
So she weaves this blanket and embroiders like animals known for protection, things with hampikuna (warding and healing energies) - and she does her work with it at the temple and blesses it there and have the other Manaconas do some words over it and packs it with herbs she trusts
(THE BUNDLE SMELLS OF PURE FLORIDA WATER AND SANTO PALO)
And it's not canonically magical or anything but to her she's like 'of course he'll need this to protect from the evil eye while resting. It'll give him thoughts of strength won't it??'
And Lyla is hearing this like - 'MOCHE HE DOESN'T KNOW YOU YET CHILL'
But Moche is like don't care we're both warriors what what was I supposed to do -
ALL THIS CAUSE DIANE SAID THEY COULDN'T HANG BECAUSE ASA WASN'T FEELING WELL
But then she has to give it to Asa but is WAY WAY too shy to something especially being openly spiritual on campus
and instead gives it to Diane who has no idea what this is and Diane is like... Um I'll try to give it to him But like uhhhh what do I say
And Mo is like idk I'm the village healer not the village public speaker you do the talking
So Diane comes over with everything and IMMEDIATELY warns him like '- ummm the girl from Miguels office told me to give this to you because 'she knows I won't put 'the eye' on it - and then said something about you 'deserving a warriors rest'. Idk what that means - I was looking for Hobie at the time so I was kinda focused but here!!'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it's like one of these but bigger.
[these are actually Peruvian Mesas - usually in the cloth is 'the altar' - where all the spiritual tools are laid out or tied up into a bundle.
but in this case she's using the blanket bundle as a Mesa and her energy (encouragement) as the spiritual tool inside]
ALL THIS CAUSE MOCHE WANTS TO BE NICE AND THAT'S THE ONLY WAY SHE KNOWS HOW BUT THAT'S HOW SHE EXTENDS FRIENDSHIP
Weaving stuff - she's woven ponchos for Miguel and a Baja hoodie for Hobie she can't be stopped
BUT she only gives people that she trusts and knows they won't think it's silly/fake/demonic/archaic or whatever
PLUS she's used to being around trans people - her village has trans people that are very respected, plus there's QariWarmi (3rd gender - REPRESENT!!) ceremonial attendants in her temple ass well. They couldn't do the spiritual work without them so Moche is like NATURALLY with that much spiritual energy a good blanket is needed for rest
Diane wouldn't mention the kiddies cause that's private but if Moche knew she'd be like can I get ages and heights - just curious (she's going to weave them blankets she's SOO FOCUSED on like protecting children physically and spiritually - she doesn't cross them at the door because not Christian but if a kid is leaving the temple where she lives she'll brush them with the blessed palm fan JUST IN CASE. If she can't protect them the ancestors will)
She's the auntie that be like 'ah! Come here' and then puts Florida water on you before you leave
She's not playing with her energy!!!!!!
I'M SORRY THIS IS SO LONG
I just wanted to thank you and Asa because seeing Asa and his face claim pushed me SO hard to make Moche and make her proudly indigenous with her long braids THANK YOU
i want to talk about periods. You may be asking lux what’s so important about periods that you’re talking about it on your astv blog. Well, I’m here to tell you.
I’m pretty sure that everyone is aware that Asa’s afab. He has a vagina and boobs. He also has a period and like me, very painful period cramps. I want him to have these because we don’t talk about period pain still, not hero stops the. world because they’re on their period, except Asa does. He knows himself and his body and has learned (through trial and error) to rest
He will not talk to anyone but his children during his period and they’re only been once that he’s been willing to talk to hobie. He’s in a lot of pain and most pain meds do not work for him.
How does this affect being Arachnid?
Well good question! Asa does not do Arachnid on the first four days of his period because of the pain that he is in. He doesn’t really cook, clean or dance. during that time either. He rests, he reminds himself that his ancestors thought people on their periods were strong and not gross, not icky, not anything his brain wants to tell him. On the fourth day everything starts to go back to normal. He makes dinner again, makes homemade lunch instead of school lunch, and goes out as arachnid again.
Periods suck for him (and for me) but now that he has hobie, and has Diane he can have someone that he trusts drop off food or high tech heat pads.
So yeah, it sucks so hard those first few days but he (and I) live on
(ps Diane is my oc’s best friend and she belongs with @the-cat-and-the-birdie)
