once again thinking about how fucked up it is that special ed used me and other disabled children as unpaid, coerced labor. i worked enough to be making $100 a week. i was "paid" in fake money redeemable only at the school cafeteria, which i worked at, and was forced to do things that distressed me. they gave us $1 a week, if they remembered to give it to us at all.

this was while i would sometimes go the entire day without eating because i didn't have the money to buy food and the free food was not sensory safe. we also worked outside the community - grocery stores, warehouses, shoe stores security tagging items. all under the guise of job skill development, we did $100 of labor a week without ever getting paid. and we were demeaned while we did it. and we were just teens.

so no, i don't want to hear about how special education is good. not with the way me and my peers were treated and taken advantage of. death to institutionalization, in all forms.

I'm keeping reblogs off but we need to start an early education outreach that just takes every identified autistic child out of class for 45 minutes a day and explains in simple, forceful language, with extensive real-life examples, how the entire world starting with basic schooling runs on a totally unacknowledged foundation of various kinds of fraud. and how you're just supposed to pick this up osmotically and then never speak of it to anyone or ever admit to it. and how opting out of this system will make you a social outcast as well as physically and mentally incapable of actually getting anything done.

Behind the scenes images of Stephen Geoffreys having prosthetics applied to him as his turn as the unlucky Evil Ed in Fright Night (1985)

Steve Johnson wished Evil Ed's transformation to be lumpy and 'asymmetrical' in contrast to the transformations in American Werewolf in London and The Howling. Geoffreys would spend 18 hours in the makeup chair as prosthetics were applied to his whole body. He had to take sleeping pills to pass out the time away!

For filming the transformation, Geoffreys would have to sit with his back against the set wall, which had a hole for a puppeteer to operate the rod-puppet wolf arm, as well as holes in the set's floor for another puppeteer to operate the rod-puppet wolf legs. Geoffreys would wear a neck appliance with the wolf head as a 'hat'; he could see out from holes in the neck, and the head was fitted with cable-operated animatronics allowing it to blink and grimace.

enamored by the fact that there were even butterfly clips on board the revenge. because they’d have to belong stede, right? and I don’t think he’d probably ever worn them, even in polite society before he ran away from home out of fear of being mocked. truly I think he bought them for himself and was never brave enough to wear them out, but he held onto them for years like a secret in some box hidden in his closet.

and then ed came along and wanted to go to the fancy party and stede, already trusting and finally having met someone who appreciated his fine things and wanted to play dress up, finally pulled the box from its hiding place.
