Idea: Judge and Cesar accidentally created the zombie virus
Judge dies at the Vinsmoke house, the center of the first wave
Ceasar and the siblings manage to escape (not together)
ASL manage to survive together for a long time but end up getting separated for two years, in which Luffy makes a caravan of his own (with the strawhats, who are all each looking for their families), Ace ends up in Whitebeard's settlement and Sabo with the revs (obv), they're, ofc, looking for each other
Ace ends up with the Vinsmokes when Whitebeard has a confrontation with the Marines and Blackbeard (they ambushed Whitebeard and his family) and Ace falls into a river that carries him to where the Vinsibs have settled temporarily (they're trying to make their way back home to see if they can find something useful there) and 0&4 fished him out of it
My sister's idea: if you get bitten you can slow down your zombiefication by eating zombies
If I decide to go full silly fun with the au then there's gonna be mutant zombies and not all people who are bitten turn into zombies, some gain powers

Wait, let me, I've actually ranted about this to friends so, eh, warning: I do Not like Ace's story manga. My rating it a 2/10 is being generous, it's only that high because Deuce content, it fills me with spite and pushes me to make my own version of the manga (lemme plug the drafts here lmao).
For a better understanding of my everything about this, check under the cut, cuz boy-o-boy do I have thoughts about the changes.
I'll be focusing on the first chapter/Ace and Deuce's first meeting.
Oh, and if anyone hasn't read the manga or the novels, there Will Be Spoilers.
First, I need to come out and say I don't like the art style.
This is a personal opinion, ofc, so I'll go over that too.
Boichi is really good with lighting and rendering but he overdoes it with the details, especially because it doesn't work that well for a story as toony as One Piece.
He is also weirdly good yet bad at the same time with anatomy, in a way that leaves it in the uncanny valley for me, it is very detailed but some details are kind of weird. Cute Deuce, but everyone else? Ace, darling, where are your freckles? Your droopy eyes? I'm not even asking for the greasy hair.
I have no idea how he manages to make all these characters (and I mean all, both men and even more women) so deeply unattractive.
He only manages to accidentally draw Deuce cute because his over-detailing and rendering tendencies get absorbed by Deuce's mask.
Not sorry to Boichi but this Ace cannot pull the shit that Alabasta Ace does (tho Alabasta Ace is peak, his Ace can't compare to any other canon depiction of Ace, not even to their shadow) this Ace ain't awakening shit in nobody.
But whatever.
Narratively, it's also weaker.
Starting with the first chapter, Deuce and Ace's first meeting.
So they're stranded on that damn island, where there's nothing to eat, which is why people die there, ah well, in the manga these giant monster birds are living there, which automatically negates the no food thing, so that's +1 hit with the Stupidity Laser to our boys.
Originally, Deuce meets Ace and doesn't wanna deal with him, Ace is like: let's work together and leave this place.
And Deuce is like: nuh huh
Even tho they're on an island where there's no food and they'll die of starvation if they stay, Deuce being the narrator helps, we meet him while he monologues to a pirate's corpse in Sixis, he's a silly Emo Mcedgelord who sees Ace as a shinning sun and assumes a lot of bs.
He's also really funny.
So, from the beginning, we get a feel of Deuce's personality and how his brain works, we get to understand why he doesn't want to work with Ace despite the horrible position they are in (it's paranoia) and we can start assuming stuff about his upbringing from his mental everything, stuff that he later confirms to us while talking to Ace.
All this is lost in the manga.
And not because it is a manga, a lot of what I pointed out can be shown with little to no words when we have the support of a more visual side to the narrative.
They do end up talking a bit.
Both Ace and Deuce assume things about the other, we get to see that Ace is not dumb, he has a sharp mind and sharper instincts, despite Deuce's denial, internally, he confirms to us that what Ace's conclusion about him is correct, on the other hand, Deuce is being prejudiced and spiteful, partially, because he's been 3 days stranded in Sixis and partially because of his upbringing. For example, Deuce immediately assumes that Ace has a loving family that misses him and Ace is like: never met my mom, neither did I my dad but I don't like him, he was a criminal that left us nothing but trouble.
So Deuce responds with: he can't be that bad, it's not like he was that demon pirate king, cuz like, if I was the pirate king's son I would've killed myself.
Ace: …
Deuce: …
Ace: …
Deuce: omg you're the pirate king's son
This interaction also shows us that Deuce can and is as sharp as Ace, even if he has foot-in-mouth syndrome.
In the manga, he just kinda connects the dots waaaay later, after the confrontation with White Beard.
They try to make it an emotional moment where Deuce regrets some things he told Ace while worrying about his captain's life when Whitebeard appears to fight him, but it falls flat to me, he didn't really say terrible things to him, like, 1 phrase was a bit mean sounding but it all came from a place of deep care and worry for Ace.
It's also in this first meeting that Ace names Deuce, and I think this detail is really important, it's both relevant to their interaction and how Deuce will end up dedicating his life to Ace. It's connected to the previous detail about showing their smarts, prejudices, etc.
Deuce tells him that he abandoned his name and face when he left home and that's why he wears a mask.
(Ace: oh, you must really love your family if you're hiding your identity to not bring them trouble
Deuce: Actually, I hate them, they hate me and I want nothing to do with them
Ace: …)
Ace presents himself and Deuce is like: I like your name, I might take it as a penname for when I publish my adventure journal
Ace: what? No, that's my name, it would be very confusing if we're both Ace
Deuce: I never say I would take it right now
Ace: nah, you know what? I'll call you Deuce
Deuce: do you know what that means?
Ace: nah? But it kinda matches right? Sounds nice
Deuce: …
In the manga, he just chooses the name himself at the end of the first chapter.
The manga skips pretty much all of the first novel except for them getting to Sabaody and then the rest is New World, and it also deletes A LOT from that.
After their first conversation, they start working together in the manga, however, in the novel, they're still not working together.
This takes me to the Finding of the Mera Mera no Mi scene.
In the novel: Deuce is delirious with hunger and goes to attack Ace when he sees him with a fruit, but Ace sees him and decides to share the fruit with him, it turns out to be the mera mera, and since Ace took the first bite he now is fire.
In the manga: Deuce gets angry cuz he thinks Ace is hoarding food (they've been working together all this time) and attacks him even after Ace explains about the monster birds, and Deuce, ofc, gets attacked by the birds and is saved by Ace, that's when he finds the mera mera in a treasure box which I'm supposed to believe they hadn't seen even tho they've been working in that area with that stuff for a while now, and Deuce is the one to share the fruit.
This just doesn't hit emotionally nor narratively for me, we're supposed to be shown how and why Deuce would end up devoting himself to Ace, come on.
Ace's kindness after their disastrous first meeting is what awakens Deuce to his prejudices and leads to his devotion to Ace.
The novel and manga do the same "Ace is suddenly aflame and they panic until Ace notices that he doesn't feel heat or pain" but since they're on the shore, in the novel Ace is like: oh hell, nah, I don't need/want no devilfruit rn, wait, maybe it isn't.
So he walks into the sea like: see Deuce? I'm fine! It wasn't a devil fruit it waahhhhhh~
So Deuce saves him, questions some things and Ace goes off to talk about his little brother (cuz ofc he does, he does that several times in the novel, most of which was cut in the manga).
The first chapter, in the manga, fails to convey why people would be willing to follow Ace, why they would feel drawn to Ace and why Ace would be chosen as a captain.
The manga completely cuts the rest of the first novel, from what little we learn about Ace's crew and adventures to Ensign Isuka. Another important character to showcase what I previously said.
She's, ofc, the main marine following Ace, a true samaritan who just wants to help people. She also shows us a little of the kind of life Ace has had on the sea. Yes, she's trying to capture Ace, but after dealing with him she knows that Ace is a good man, she wants him to abandon the life of piracy, but she is naive and ignorant, until the last chapter in Sabaody.
The first novel, as short as it might be, gives us a glance at the Ace's life pre-Whitebeard.
And then the second novel shatters what meagre status quo the first volume settled.
The manga covers mostly this part of the story, although it also cuts A Lot.
Despite the focus being on Ace's first fight and later time with the Whitebeard pirates, the novel also gives us a little of Ace on Fishman Island.
BTW, the second novel isn't narrated by Deuce, and so, let's us follow other's POV, although Ace is still the main (it's narrated in 3rd person).
The novel, also, it's a lot charming and funnier than the manga. Even though both cover Ace's meeting with Shank, part of it is also cut, some being legit funny moments like when he meets Shanks who is very confused when he meets Ace (+ him literally going: this kid should be with the revolutionaries).
But moving on to the meat of the novel.
The manga focuses on Ace's fights with Whitebeard, which, again, not only robs us of what meagre content we get of Ace's crew, it also takes away from Ace's growing attachment to the Whitebeard pirates (specially Thatch) and Whitebeard himself (despite we not seeing much of their interactions anyway).
Like, Thatch being in charge of Ace, dragging him here and there, having him help in the kitchens and just having a fun time together.
The mission in one of Whitebeard's territories Ace is sent to is also very important, it helps him (and us) see the kind of man he is, as well as Ace's dynamic with his own crew and Whitebeard's.
Also, there's this joke in the manga of Ace not knowing that Deuce had knowledge of medicine, which grates on my nerves, because: Are you telling me that I'm supposed to believe that after sailing together all this time Ace never knew that Deuce is a doctor? (well, drop-out medicine student but whatever -Deuce is literally a medicine student dropout who decided to follow his dream career of creative writing-) Deuce from a family of doctors and has studied that shit. Are you telling me that in all those times anyone on the crew got hurt, Deuce never treated them? Are you telling me that I'm supposed to believe that?
And again.
We were ROBBED of what meagre content there is of Ace's crew (did you know he has 2 gyojin there? Baby boy Wallace and Madam Banshee whom I love dearly? Both of them. Did you know that Banshee prefers older men and men who can cook? She specifically mentioned both White Beard and Thatch -I ship her so hard with Thatch you guys-).
To me, the manga fails on so many levels and it's just narratively SO Weak.
+ it's ugly and I hate the ending because what do you mean Deuce wrote about his time with Ace and went "nah, this ain't for the world to see"??? Exfuckingcuse me?
I could go on comparing scenes and changes and whatnot but I better not tbh
Question to everyone who has read both the Ace novel and the Ace Novel Manga:
What are your genuine thoughts on the manga and the changes they made to it?
I personally have many issues with it going from the changes to sixis, the chemistry between Ace and Deuce (how deuce got his name, how deuce found out roger was ace's father to mention a few examples), and the complete erasure of isuka.
If I had to give it a rating I would give it a generous 7/10. I'm glad it exists because we have more deuce content appearance wise but at the same time when he draws the men detailed it creeps me out don't even get me started on how the women look...
#ace novel#spade pirates#portgas d ace#masked deuce#ensign isuka#one piece Banshee#one piece wallace#spade pirate banshee#spade pirate wallace#one piece thatch#a more in-depth rantnalysis manga-novel comparison would be better left for another post. or idk a power point presentation or a video

Flames (Part 3)
<- (PREV) (NEXT) ->
(Spade Pirate Sabo AU Masterpost)
The aftermath of Ace nearly drowning! With many more times to come.
Tage is for a while their designated drowning-captain-savior at least until they get Wallace and Banshee on the crew (a fishman and mermaid respectively, so they’re both better than Tage at swimming and more suited to diving after their captain in the dangerous waters of the New World).
We’ve got maybe 2 or 3 more chapters to go before this arc of Sixis ends, and then maybe I’ll see about continuing with either a chronological storyline or jumping around like I did before. I hope you enjoyed this chapter :) I’ve been waiting for 3 weeks to post ace going “☝️usually I can swim” and tage having none of it. In the words of a friend, tage really is just being bullied by the physics of his world

hi, brooke here! <3
could i request ace helping the reader, who is having a migraine? I'm currently struggling with one myself and that would be much comfort!
feel free to be as creative as you'd like 🐝✨
not gonna lie I didn't see this ask till yesterday sorry about not replying sooner. and as some one who deals with chronic migraines, I'm sorry you've been going through it. I hope they have been getting better and I hope you enjoy the story.
Word count 1.3k
trigger warnings: Migraine, cussing, mentions of panic attacks
A Migraine
I could feel it since this morning. Just a dull ache in the back of my head. I knew it was only a matter of time before a migraine decided to strike me. I managed to get through my normal daily chores before my vision began to blur. The only reason id been able to complete my chores was because it was all muscle memory. If id had to put any real thought into it I'd be more than a little lost. I couldn't focus on anything and my thoughts were flowing like syrup through frozen pipes.
I stepped away from the laundry and closed my eyes. Yeah even with the excessive amounts of ibuprofen and acetaminophen I had taken I needed to go lay down. I turned to Banshee, she had been the only other female on the spades with me. After Pops just kinda claimed Ace as one of his we followed Ace to the whitebeard pirates. “I'm sorry to leave you when we still have work to do but if I don't go lay down I think my brain might selfdistrict.”
Banshee turned to me, “Sweetheart it's not a problem. You've looked like shit all morning I was wondering when you'd tap out.” she smiled at me. “But didn't think asking why you look like a walking corpse would help nun.” we’d been crew members for years, she knew my struggles with migraines. “Plus it's not like this is a hangover and you did it to yourself,” she added.
“Yeah nope, definitely not a hangover, and by god I feel like one.” I gave her a pathetic smile, “But still, I owe you one.” I turned to walk to the door my hand on the wall as I walked. My head was spinning. Though I knew could handle a little tumble I didn't see the need to worry the crew.
“Don't worry about it. And do you want me to walk you back to your dorm? How steady are you on your feet?” she asked in a motherly tone.
“I'll be fine But thanks Banshee.” I waved her by as I left the room. I didn't need to take her away from the work that was left.
I picked my way threw the ship trying to avoid the louder parts. Sadly my room was right next to the mess hall, no matter what time it was the mess hall was always packed full and loud enough to make the floor boards of the ship shake. I winced knowing I'd have to walk past the mess hall's doors to get to my room. The noise would be loud enough to take my balance completely away and my vision would be fucked. I braced myself for a moment, checking one last time if the way was clear before, closing my eyes, and rushing to pass the doors.
I slammed straight into someone. Someone who was much steadier on their feet. Before I was sent to the floor a set of hands grabbed my shoulders and stopped me from falling. “You ok?” Ace called over the noise of the mess hall. His grip on my shoulders was firm but not harsh.
My hands came to cling onto his arms. The noise was overwhelming, like I'd thought My balance was gone and my vision went with it. I couldn't quite manage to speak so I just shook my head no. I wasn't hurt but I definitely wasn't ok.
Ace pulled me over to my room’s door. Helping me inside, “Is this a panic attack or a migraine?” he asked in a soft calming voice barely above a whisper. I couldn't help but smile at the question. Seeing as my head was a box of fucked up, and either were possible (plus both could take my speech away) it was a reasonable question.
I took a moment to take a deep breath and take in the quiet of my room, “Migraine.” I croaked out. With the blare of the mess hall gone some of my brain power was coming back.
“Have you taken anything for it?” he asked sounding slightly relieved. I don't blame him. Migraines were easier to deal with than panic attacks. He helped me over to my bed helping me sit down.
“More than Marco would be happy with,” I joked, giving him a smile hoping it would calm him down slightly. I could feel the way his heart was racing well he was holding me. Ace was good at keeping a calm face when he was panicked, but his heart always gave him away. With his tough exterior, it might surprise people how much of a softy he is when it comes to his crew. He feels helpless and panicky when the people he cares about are hurt.
“Ok since I'm not a doctor I won't scold you for that,” he sighed but I could hear the smile in his voice. He was calming down now that he knew what was wrong and how to help, “how about water?” he asked walking over to my curtains and drawing them close.
“I could use a glass.” I shifted from sitting on my bed to lying down. If it were anyone else I might have just said I was fine, but with Ace I couldn't. With ace, I knew he’d feel better if he was helping.
“Well then ill be back.” he paused at the doorway looking over his shoulder, “Have you eaten?” he asked.
“Yes I have,” I answered my voice muffled, I had a pillow over my face to block out more light. Not that I was looking but I could feel the questioning look he was giving me, “I had breakfast. Eggs, bacon, and orange juice… not lying, promises.” I grumbled.
“Just checking.” he chuckled, and then I heard the door open and close. A few moments later I heard the door open again. Then there were footsteps crossing my room and someone sitting down on the edge of my bed. “You gonna sit up or just spill water all over yourself?” Ace asked in a slightly teasing tone.
“Sit up,” I mumbled sitting up and leaning my head against one of his shoulders.
“Good.” he brought a cup of water to my lips. He let me grab hold of the water cup before letting go. If I was feeling less shitty I might have enjoyed how close he was to me. He waited for me to finish drinking the water before asking, “You want heat or ice on the back of your neck?”
“Heat.” some heat on the back of my neck would definitely help. It would soothe my shoulders and hopefully convince my brain to calm down some. I wondered if he'd grabbed both an ice pack and a hot water bottle.
“You got it sunshine,” I could hear mischief in his voice but I wasn't sure why. Ace wasn't the type to mess with someone if they weren’t in good shape. Before I could ask what he had up his sleeve he was lying down in my bed with me, his arm my new pillow.
For a moment I just froze then I decided, fuck it. I shifted slightly to get comfortable. I was about to bitch that his arm wasn't going to be hot enough when I realized it was. “Guess this is one way to use your devil fruit.” I hummed.
“You want me to get you something else?” he asked in a soft hum. I could feel the hum reverberate in his chest, it was a pleasant sensation.
“Think you can stay here for a while?” I asked almost meekly. If I was being honest with myself it felt really nice to be cuddled up to Ace.
“Yeah I can stay here as long as you need me to,” he replied snuggling into me a little bit.
“Then no I don't want something else,” I closed my eyes, ready for a nap.
“You got it,” Ace answered letting me fall asleep on his arm.

Music and Flames
The Whitebeard pirates were well known for their parties. Even other emperors knew the large group liked to party. It wasn’t like Shanks’ crew that drank until they drying a whole island up. No it was different. They would dance, sing, and laugh the whole night away. All in all a very fun happy night when they partied.
The end of the year party was coming up. Another year that they lived and were happy to be part of. Everyone was ready to have a blast. Even the newer recruits were getting in on the party.
The ex Spade pirates were helping where they could. Getting more food, and alcohol. Ace had towed a few ships to the next island just to make sure they had enough to last them. Deuce helping the commanders with planning. They put up lights so no one would be left in the dark. Tents to sleep in or anything else that would be needed. Multiple places to go to the bathroom. It was all for the best party of the year.
Ace smiled and laughed. Trying his best not to get too caught up with the fact that it was that time of year again. It wasn’t like the Whiteboard's knew about it. The Spades too busy to mention it. He could relax and enjoy the time he got with them.
When the party started they found out that it started strangely. Everyone got a chance to show off what they learned or completed this year. Everything form a drawing they did to full battle plans. Just about everything they were proud of was on display. Pops watching with a smile on his face, as each child presented.
Before long it was the new comers turn. Not minding that they weren’t ready for this. It was part of the hazing. It also helped not make the new people freak out about having something completed that would match the others.
Deuce stood on stage being the first to be thrown up there. He looked around then at Pops. Everyone waited, smiling and holding no judgment for the boy. “I uh wrote a full three notebooks about our adventures.” He said, hoping it was enough. Just what was he supposed to say?
“AWESOME!” “YOU HAVE TO READ SOME OF THEM TO US!” The crowd yelled. Making Deuce read out some of the things he wrote. All of them were true of course. Cheering more when Deuce actually read out one of the things they did that year. Did if focus on Ace, yeah. Ace was doing something stupid and got them caught up in it. Making the Whiteboard's laugh and snicker while looking at Ace. Not that he minded much. But, they were alive at the end of the day. Just another story to tell when he saw Luffy again.
Banshee made a new dish this year. One that Thatch taught her. It took six attempts to get it right. Every time it went wrong, Ace got to eat more than the others. Not that anyone wanted the off colored creation he was eating. She was so happy to get it right. Knowing that she was close because Ace said it tasted good. Everyone cheered and told her to keep on cooking.
Skull told them about how he was just a pirate fanboy until he met Ace. MEtting Ace was both the best and worst thing for his fan life. Ace showed up beat up the crew he was hanging out with. Then didn’t know how to sail the ship at all. He had to teach Ace and Deuce everything, until they made it to the next island. But he ended up having to keep the idiot alive. Ace yelled ‘That’s not being true, I knew some things.’ not that anyone believed him. It did end up making everyone laugh. Soon everyone had gone up. Learning more about the new siblings then they might have in the next month.
It was Ace’s turn. He didn’t really know what to say. It wasn’t like he really did anything note worthy. He fought a bunch of people but that wasn’t unusual for him. Plus everyone else had something else to be proud of. Thinking about what he did, the crowd waited.
They couldn’t wait to hear what he was going to come up with. Was it about fighting Pops? OR beating Jimbe a war lord of the sea. Maybe it was some other story they hadn’t learned yet. Whatever it was they couldn’t wait to hear it.
The answer was nothing they could ever expect.“I…uh…learned a song?” Ace said not confident. Otama taught it to him when he visited. It honestly wasn’t that big of a thing.
The silence as they wondered why that of all things was what he said. “Well, Sing it then!” Thatch called out. Laughing that singing is what Ace chose.
“kaeru no uta ga
kikoete kuru yo
gwa gwa gwa gwa
gero gero gero gero
gwa gwa gwa” Ace sang. He had never sang in front of a crowd before and didn’t really know what to sing. It was a short song, and was over soon enough. The others stared at him then cheered. Telling him he did a good job. That he should sing more often. Ace, was so embarrassed that his shoulders were on fire. But, it wasn’t a bad feeling. This time at least.
Izou knew that song. Though they didn’t say anything right away. It was nice to hear their language again. From someone other than themselves. After all who else was from Wano on their crew. Maybe with time they could teach Ace how to speak with them. That would be the most fun.
Not right now though at the musicians had gotten their hands on Ace and were unlikely to let him go. They were going to make the boy sing until he couldn’t. Izou saw many of the new spades being taken away into the groups that shared their hobbies and interests. Reminding Izou why they asked Pops to start this whole thing.
Twords the end of the year everyone waited. Counting down the seconds. Another year as a family. A year of seeing the world and fighting. Pranks, laughter, and tears. There was so much to every year. It only made the best parts of life to be here. Tomorrow the party would continue, one a little sadder to honor the ones that didn’t make it to the new year. If they died or left to peruse there dreams, it didn’t matter. They would always be family to them. There was never a need to say goodbye when they would see each other again.

was re–reading tcoh and got curious, how do the spade pirates & redhair pirates get along?
Great question! In general, they get along really well, but those of particular note:
Skull and Benn are pretty fast friends. They're both super chill, kinda long-suffering, and a bit deeper than the fart jokes their crewmates often make. They share tobacco and talk fondly about stupid things their captains have done while said captains go off fucking. They're the mediators of their crews; the first people to intervene should an argument arise. (Skull's a pirate enthusiast and loves treasure, so he also gets along really well with Shanks himself.)
Yasopp helps all of the Spades brush up on their gun skills, but he likes Banshee and Mihar especially. Speaking of, everyone on Shanks' crew fucking loves Mihar. The guy's cool, collected, scholarly, but fun. He knows a lot of stuff and he uses that stuff to make a good time outta nothing. Mihar himself tends to stick with Hongo the most because they've got a lot in common, but he likes Limejuice a lot, too.
Punch really likes Kotatsu, as does Monster, his monkey. (He's got a soft spot for animals.) Meanwhile, Lucky Roux is beloved by the Spades for his fantastic cooking, which he is always happy to share.
As for Deuce, well. He's a smart guy, clearly cares a lot. All the Red Hairs like him! But they like taking the piss out of him even more. Big brother, little brother behaviour, you know?

Chapter 2: I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
You had yet to ask about what had happened in the 20 years of your absence. In Wano, you couldn't even ask about Kozukis, they had warned you not to talk about them.
You were already attached to the captain of Spades Pirates the moment you met him. It took you a while for them to agree letting you join them though.
But boy were they glad you did. Although Ace is the captain, they knew you were, well the ace of the crew. It was no contest, you were the strongest in the crew. Training with Oden, Roger and Edward tends to make you powerful after all.
Every battle was swept through with you and Ace around. I mean who would match your strength? It didn't seem like Edward was alive any longer, and Roger, well he's gone.
The crew had tried asking you about what you know as you seem ignorant about what had happened, which you are. They were going to blame the fact you were from Wano, but you were also ignorant about the events there.
You didn't tell them about your ability. You didn't ask anything either. You wanted to go into the world blindly. The thrill of finding out about this world.
Your stay with your new crew had lasted for months, you've lost count after 4 months had passed. The crew grew to love you.
You were closest to Ace and Banshee, the only female in the crew aside from you.
"Y/N, can you wake up Ace?" Deuce asks while they prepare to land on the island.
Knocking on your captain's room to no answer you gave yourself permission to get in.
"Hey, Captain~" You cooed poking at your sleeping captain's cheek.
He smile in his sleep and hums.
"Wake up." You shake him.
When he refused to wake up, you think back to how Rayleigh woke his captain up.
Enveloping you hand in haki, you hit his head.
"GRANDPA!!??" He cried out as he woke up.
You smirked, "Do I look like your grandpa?"
His cheeks flushed and glared. "DEUCE SHE'S EVIL AS YOUR CAPTAIN I DEMAND YOU DON'T GIVE HER SNACKS!!!"
Rolling your eyes you started dragging him out of his room, "I never get to eat them either way you hog. C'mon we're about to land."
He regains composure and calms down hearingyour report. He removes your grip on him and walks ahead, with a serious tone and look.
When the ship docks the crew jumped off and you stayed in the ship.
"This place seem boring... Why would you guys come here." You pout.
"Someone we've been hunting is here." Deuce tells you.
"Well, you guys can handle yourselves. I'm staying here. That place doesn't even have a village."
"What if we need you?" Skull asks.
"Captain~ are you going to need me?" You grinned at him, "Can you handle things without me~? Do you need your knight in shuning armor~?"
His face turns red, "I can handle things! We don't need you!!" And he storms off ahead.
Deuce sighed, "You didn't have to tease him. We'll just call when we need you. Everyone let's go!"
And they all follow their captain while you stayed behind.
~
Your sleep was interrupted by screams for your name.
"Y/N!!!!" It was a frantic scream from Deuce.
You immediately run out of your room and check, "What?"
You notice someone missing in the group.
Your captain.
"Ace he-!"
Before they catch you up on what happened, you run to the direction they went off earlier holding on your sword. Looking around to find anything that might help you locate him.
Then you felt a powerful surge of haki in a direction. Your heart fell, thinking of the danger Ace is in. That amount of haki was overwhelming and you fear what it might've done to him.
When you got to the fight there was a wall of fire.
"Hey pops they're back..." You heard some yell.
They're-?
You look behind you and you see the crew behind you baring weapons.
"Let's grab Ace and run!" Deuce instructs.
You paid no mind to him though. All you saw was Ace on the ground struggling to get back up.
Exuding your haki you rush to Ace. Some of the enemy crew dropping from the power of your haki. As the foe was about to attack Ace you jump in the way. You swiftly pulled your sword out and covered it with haki.
The exchange of blow was intense, with the strike sending ripples of power through the surrounding waters. Your agility and movements impressed the man, who recognized your prowess as a worthy opponent.
Everyone was surprised at your arrival and counter. No one was expecting someone to block an attack.
The enemy crew watched in awe as their captain fought you, their expressions a mix of excitement and concern. Your crew members, too, felt a surge of pride, witnessing you hold your own against one of the strongest pirates in the world. Some who collected themselves sooner and worried for their captain snuck around and grabbed Ace, who was behind you.
"Y/N! Let's go! We can't handle him!" Deuce says as they carry Ace on their shoulder.
"Y/N?" Someone from the enemy's crew repeat.
But all you saw was red. You were angry at the man against you for what he's done to him.
As the battle raged on, it became evident that your quick reflexes and adaptability were proving to be a challenge for him. He could feel the strength and determination emanating from you, an opponent who refused to back down.
The foe was powerful. Much powerful than anyone you've faced in this time. It reminds you of the travels with your brother.
You pushed your body and mind to their limits, drawing on your experiences. Every strike was calculated, every move executed with precision and purpose.
Yet, despite your resilience, your foe's overwhelming power began to take its toll. Your energy waned as the battle progressed, and the weight of facing a living legend bore down upon them.
Your crew could sense it. Ace tried getting away from the hold of his crew. This battle was his fault. How could he let you sacrifice yourself for some stupid problem of his.
The clash lasted for what felt like an eternity, but eventually, exhaustion began to take its toll. With a final clash of blades, you stepped back, your breathing heavy.
"Y/N!" He choked out.
You brought yourself back. Your exhaustion was now something you felt. You turned to look at your captain, he was beaten but he was alive being treated by Deuce.
"Ace, are you okay?" You pant.
"He is!" Deuce says.
You smile and fell on your knees. "I'm so fucking tired. I'm donee!"
Your foe laughed, "You are strong."
"Yet I lost." You catch your breath and walk to Ace.
But your path was blocked.
Your crew froze as you were now surrounded by some of the enemy crew.
Ace pushed Deuce away and staggeringly ran to you. But they all stopped and stared in shock when one of the enemy wrapped their arms around you.
"Y/N-sama!"
"Izo????"
Your heart pounded with disbelief as they saw familiar faces among the enemy Pirates—the friends you had thought lost to the currents of time. Among the crew stood Vista, Rakuyo and Jozu, trusted comrades who you had shared both joy and hardship.
You looked at the man you were just fighting. There by Edward's side was Marco, who had been your closest confidante.
"Edward!!!" You hollered as you ran to him.
Your crew and some of the enemy crew who never got the chance to meet you looked at the reunion in confusion.
"Marco go treat my captain. I have got a lot of catching up to do with this big man." You grinned.
Marco came over to your crew, "You guys should join us to our ship. Y/N is gonna take a while. We can treat your captain there. We're probably gonna end up with a banquet too." He laughed
They looked at Marco in a mixture of reluctance and confusion. Then to you who was walking to the enemy ship with the man you had just fought.
It wasn't like Ace could leave you. He nods at Deuce signaling they follow him.

yara and ace
Aaahh thank youuu!! <3 Hope you enjoy!!
OC x canon ask game
🫣 Who stumbled the most with their feelings around the other? How much did the other person notice?
Ace, absolutely. He grew up in a jungle. The most experience he had with women of any kind until he left the Goa Kingdom at 17 was 1) Dadan (his surrogate mother) and 2) Makino (who he was canonically shy around). He basically had no interactions with girls his own age (that we know of) until his Spade Pirates days, and even then, the two major women he meets in the Ace light novels are Marine Ensign Isuka and his crewmate Banshee, whom he is mostly just polite and respectful to. Yara is… an entirely different experience for him. From the moment he first meets her, he’s a mixture of awestruck by her beauty and confused because she’s a Whitebeard Pirate and therefore supposed to be his enemy. Plus, she initially hates him. Ace did NOT know how to deal with her (or, frankly, with any of his other frustrating emotions about being repeatedly beaten by Whitebeard while being strangely accepted by many of the Whitebeard Pirates, including Thatch and Marco) and kind of ended up making an ass of himself, leading to the infamous “you’re really beautiful” scene in chapter 5 of my fic lol.
As for Yara… it’s not that she doesn’t notice that Ace blushes and stammers and is generally kind of awkward around her, but moreso that she refuses to acknowledge it. She intensely dislikes him at first and doesn’t want anything to do with him until he stops trying to kill her surrogate father, so she mostly tries to ignore him and, when that fails, tells him off quite harshly.
Things don’t really start to change until Ace stops trying to kill Whitebeard and slowly warms up to the Whitebeard Pirates, at which point Yara finds him tolerable enough to form a friendship with, and Ace’s initial adolescent infatuation grows into a genuine love that he can’t help but express however he can. As Yara begins to fall for him in turn, she becomes a lot more careful with her feelings, unsure if his unwavering kindness towards her means that he actually likes her in a romantic sense, or whether he’s just being Ace (since he’s such a sweetheart towards mostly everyone he meets).
💕 Who confessed first and how? Did it go as planned or did shenanigans ensue?
Oh, I’ve come up with SO MANY confession scene ideas for them lol and I’m still not 100% sure how it’s gonna play out in And I’ll Surrender (Myself to You), which I consider their ‘canon’, but here’s a few ideas I had:
Ace confesses. Sort of. Well, he tries to. But he ends up getting so nervous that he sets himself on fire, and Yara has to douse him with a bucket of water before he burns down the ship. He’s about to give up and try to recover some dignity when Yara gives him a kiss and asks him, “That’s what you were trying to say, right?”
Yara confesses-- and by that, I mean she drops the first “I love you” in a moment where Ace is at maximum self-hatred after getting mistaken for his father by some random old lady on an island they stop at. He feels like his blood is a curse and his existence is a prison, and Yara is desperate to let him know just how much she cares for him; that he is loved so, so much, damn the world. Ace then initiates their first kiss. (This is the one I’m leaning towards in AISMtY).
They both end up confessing at the same time when they end up in a really romantic setting on some island somewhere (I had this idea while wandering around a botanical garden when I was in France about a week ago) and the moment just feels right for them to share a kiss after dancing around their feelings for each other for so long. The least angsty version.
There’s probably more than that tbh but do let me know which you prefer-- or if you have any ideas if you want! I’m always open to suggestions <3

@theallblue [ ♠️ ] continuation.
Looking at the different skills, techniques and how each individual performed the same activity, it was interesting. The usual silence and lack of even the slightest chatter bothered him. Perhaps he was too used to the fact that when he spent time together with Thatch his mouth practically never closed even if he was preparing such a hearty feast for the entire crew of the Whitebeard. They were always able to talk for hours, and Ace was able to see how the two cooks' technique could differ even if they prepared the same meal over and over again. The way the blonde's fingers worked around the cutting board, was like a dance. The kitchen countertop was a dance floor that Sanji owned no matter what moves he chose to perform.
Ingredients, kitchen knife or vegetables. His slender fingers danced across them, almost mesmerizingly so. Everything he did was refined, even the smallest cut mattered and the harmony of flavors and spices was just an addition to the melodious dish to be served. His way of cooking was more or so focused, graceful in a way. Completely different from the one he saw every day when looking at Thatch. Maybe curiosity was the first degree to hell, but he would never be able to read a cookbook to learn the ways of cooking from it. Practice was the most important thing for him, after all, books didn't teach him how to hunt, all of his combat knowledge, and before, being a captain of his own crew.
Maybe it was just curiosity since Spade pirates lacked a skilled cook. Only miss Banshee made it work for them all the way to the New World when Ace was sailing along with his first gathered crew. He did not dare to speak. Only watch, it wasn't his ship or the crew that waited for him somewhere along with his father amidst the stretching seas. Sanji wasn't talking either, it was a type of silence that Ace did not mind. He was settled near the wooden table, head tilted slightly as eyes followed the skilled hands all the way until the doors burst open with his little brother breaking the ever present silence with a shower of questions about the upcoming meal, being always unpatient. It was kind of endearing to see him not change as the years of their journey flowed. He was exactly the same as he had been when they were kids thrown somewhere into the depths of the jungle.
It caused the corners of his lips to lift, forming a small smile over the freckled darling's features. He was glad he could see him once again. The more the situation went on the more tense it got with the cook's natural scolding, surprising for the Fire Fist to witness the way Luffy didn't question what Sanji was saying. A completely different event that normally never happened. Surprising to witness Luffy who calmed down, did not push his loud persona further and obeyed the requested patience from the cook. His eyes widened slightly, before the expression ceased into a small chuckle. In truth, his crew expressed some of the best care Ace could see. He was not wrong, they were good people, and the best ones to be at Luffy's side.
He leaned back, finally letting out a small sigh with broad shoulders shrugging. Amusing it was so see his brother get a grisp over his overactive way of doing things. Focusing back at the words, the cook finally wishing to speak up Ace simply made himself back comfortable. Since the situation was taken over. ❝ I think it's quite impressive. This is the first time I've been able to see how someone else 'sides me is able to calm his explosive nature. No one has ever done it before so I think that's one hell of a sight after all these years. ❞ followed by a small laugh, his eyes dropped back to the food being prepared once again.
❝ Playin' with fire can be dangerous but Luffy never learned that either. I'm glad you guys take a good care of him. As an older brother I gotta worry about him even a little but seems like ya' can handle him jus' fine. It means a lot. ❞ He paused for a mere moment, placing one leg over the other with arms rested on the back of his head, leaning into the chair. ❝ Your cookin' technique is completely different from the ones I've seen. That's also impressive to me, where did y'learn all of that ? ❞

Little Things in Novel A I'll Never Recover From:
Deuce having a conversation with a skeleton.
Ace being over the top respectful to Banshee to the point where he's apologizing to her when she's not even there.
Skull addressing Ace and Deuce as "master" (idk why he does it but it's rly cute).
The precious heart to heart between Deuce and Whitebeard 🥺 (Deuce becomes one of his favorite sons and no one can tell me otherwise).
How Whitebeard gets all ashamed when he burns his hand in the same spot and is only worried about Deuce being disappointed in him.
Ace and Deuce's attempted ferris wheel date.
The part where Mihal only ever leaves his cabin when something might be wrong with Ace (the crew loves him 🥺 so fucking much).
How Deuce is super defensive when the crew reads over his shoulder as he's writing, but is way nicer when it's Wallace (cuz Wallace is learning to read and it's like Deuce is actively making sure he doesn't discourage him which is so sweet).
Deuce taking haki coated kicks to the stomach multiple times just so he can break Dorrow's flame throwers in order to save Ace.
Dine and dash.
Thatch and Ace becoming insanely close friends and drinking buddies even BEFORE Ace joined the crew.
Flower Crowns 💐🥰💐🥰💐
When Ace shared sake with Whitebeard 🥺🥺🥺 (that whole cup exchange actually).
Everyone on the Spades panicking because they have no faith in Ace and are worried he may light a Celestial Dragon on fire if he's left alone to wander (which is, let's be honest, very fair).
Ace being an absolute fucking DISASTER of a man when he meets Shanks and tries to thank him for saving Luffy.
Ace: For I am but a humble country boy-
Shanks: What in the fuck...?
(Honey plz talk like a normal person I'm-)
Shanks figuring out who Ace's father is in .2 seconds because he's literally that smart.
Deuce heel kicking a bounty hunter over the ship railing (a jealous and protective boi :3).
Banshee: Are you sure this is okay?
Ace: Yeah it was Deuce's idea.
(BABY IS LISTENING TO HIS BOYFREN TO THE LETTER. Also the implication that Ace still and will always go to Deuce for advice and to help with plans even though they're part of Whitebeard's crew. It's just... so pure and romantic).
Kotatsu growling at Blackbeard 👌
Deuce fully prepared to DRAG Ace away from the battle with Jimbei after he collapses.
Deuce and Ace are in love bye.

*cracks knuckles* time be self indulgent as hell (by talking about the technical aspects of the faerie faerie fruit, model banshee. thank you for giving me an excuse to talk more about it/the lore @head-empty-just-ace)
i) i ate the faerie faerie fruit a good chunk of time after we left dawn island (still in the spade pirates era but before we went to the new world) which can be read about here in something also extremely self indulgent. so i chalk it up to a) we're not close to dawn island if he did leave behind a ghost and b) maybe there was no ghost sabo left behind because not all people leave one (which ofc later on i learn sabo was never dead to begin with)
ii) in my universe ghosts do generally stick close to home (aka the region they died in) for various reasons like waiting for family to die so they can move on together or regrets are keeping them tied down. but they can traverse to where there are symbols of themselves
(ex. think an altar for the dead made in their honor/an offering for them/a child is a symbol of their parents so if their kid is alive they can go see them regardless of where they went, etc)
or if they are specifically attached to an individual or group of people (ex. a pirate ghost following their crew). treasured objects can leave behind a spirit too (ex. the merry). animals tend to leave more ghosts behind than humans and a good chunk move as if they haven't even realized they've died. often at sea i see the spirits of sea creatures so it adds a layer to my enjoying the sights
iii) they do remember how they die and their ghosts are in the state they died in. so if a ghost was someone who died getting stabbed to death in the torso, that will reflect on the spirit. a very grim reminder of how their lives came to an end
iv) they eventually pick up that i can see when i am making it clear i'm looking their way and just straight up start talking to them. at first i'm cautious about it because as far as other people are concerned, it looks like i'm just talking to the air but as time goes on i'm more shameless about it. usually the ghosts are very very surprised and make the typical shocked one piece face you know the one
v) i've gotten "help me move on" requests from plenty of ghosts throughout my adventures on the seas. it's kinda like my own mini side plot to whatever main storyline we've got going on
vi) yep i do end up wrapping in ghosts for intel after some time passes to help assess a situation (this comes ahead during our short stay in wano, asking ghosts about the situation and so on and so forth). this becomes particularly important during the 'marshall d teach is a snake' era
but the real bread and butter for the banshee model is that users instinctively wail, keen and scream when someone is going to die soon and i specifically ate it in hopes of preventing the deaths of people i care about if i know it's coming
so i guess for the rapid fire rounds of devil fruit ability explanation if you were curious:
banshee eyes: just the passive ability to see the spirits of the deceased
death sense: an ability with 2 variants but it isn't something i can actually control buuut death's CAN be prevented (contrasted to my banshee novel's verse) is instinctively triggered based on death rearing its head
death sense: warning: i just tear up uncontrollably because death is nearing. but the death is one that is preventable as the loom of fate has not reached a point of no return so there is still time to do something about
death sense: absolution: uncontrollable screams and sobbing that alerts those on the other side death is coming for an intended individual. this is not an avoidable death, the quick time event has been failed gg
mourning keen: forces people within a certain range to grieve and cry uncontrollably, good for incapacitating opponents (or forced therapy jgfngjn you are gonna grieve whether you like it or not)
scream queen: just a loud enough scream to stun people within a certain range (technically nameless but why not give it a title)
heavy metal: i do not control the rate by which people die (nor do i know the 'how', i only know when it's 'near') but there is a limitation to how much loud noise someone can handle before either going deaf or straight up getting unalived so it is curtains. technically a nameless ability but why not give it a name too)
drawbacks:
like i mentioned before, users of this fruit don't know the specific time or date someone will die or how they will die. so if it's a death that is preventable, it's up to the user to piece together the mystery of the specifics and hopefully succeed in avoiding someone dying
users of this fruit can't sense their own death so there are no warnings for if my final hour is coming
death sense is an ability that's passive so i can't control it or stop myself when it triggers and it is pretty draining
you can look kinda crazy just talking to the air from someone else's pov
potential drawback depending on the user: you see ghosts 24/7 and it's not an ability that can be turned off or controlled
person: omg you hate a devil fruit? which one??
me: faerie faerie fruit
person: ✨o✨ oh wow really?! so do you get wings or-
me: not that kind of faerie
person: oh
i have disappointed many a child because of this. sorry tama
