People clown Terrance Howard’s accent so much but but I can’t lie half of my inner monologue starts with “ey mayne say mayne” just because of how addicting the accent is

every day I am shocked the Midwest accent is real
#I just didn't KNOW that many people who had noticeable midwest accents until I like. moved here.#though my grandmother was originally from minnesota before that side of the family moved to washington when she was small#and you could occasionally hear it in certain words#(one of many scandinavian-american families that went 'this weather sucks' and moved from the midwest to the west coast)#I have a pnw accent which is one of the lesser-known regional american accents#I don't know if it's still very strong but at one point it was noticeable enough that people kept commenting on it#in a 'what the fuck is that' kind of way because most people don't know the pnw accent exists#but I also confuse people because I lived in the South for so long#I don't have a southern accent but I do have some dialect quirks that have been picked up over the years#the people who have been most confused about my accent have been canadians from bc lol#the bc accent is very very close to a washington accent but not identical#then I said 'y'all' and they gave up and went 'where...are you from. what is that.'#(this is a true story)#I also now say parking deck which I *think* is a georgia thing? or that part of the south anyway#I never heard it before I moved to atlanta#your girl

ngl I’m surprised we haven’t gotten a “the more north you go the more south you get” bit with Florida yet. He’s done different parts of other states as individual personifications and I think it’d be so funny for Gov to walk into a meeting and Florida not be the usual Florida. Throw him for a loop.
#North Florida just trades his bucket hat for a backwards baseball cap and his sandals for boots#Those are the only differences still wearing the American flag swim trunks and tank top#Gov thinks the southern accent is part of a joke for a solid 5 min before realizing it’s dead serious#He just figured out how to handle regular Florida & Miami guys he can’t do this again#also using this to push Florida has a mullet propaganda#Like Austin and Texas have their compromises#This was Flo’s with North Florida#wttt florida#might move all that up into an actual post at a later date idk#wttt#welcome to the table

Unpopular opinion (though it shouldn't be) people born and educated in the American south aren't inherently less intelligent than anyone else, and it's really fucked up so many of you think that.
#the 'southern accent = stupid' trope is not only fucked#but also severely overdone and pointless#saying “oh just move out of red states” actually doesnt help the people there#theres queer people in the south#theres poc in the south#theres disabled people in the south#they dont deserve your stupid generalizations#if you actually want to help#help#calling southerners stupid and telling people 'just move out of the south'#helps FUCKING NO ONE#izzy rambles#this one is angry but i dont care#as someone who was born in the north east. but has lived in the south for a decent chunk of my life#you are all so ridiculous and im sick of it#i know so many people born/raised/educated in the south who are so smart and such good people#and im just fucking tired of seeing this narrative EVERYWHERE

Oh no, man. I decided to watch the Damien episode of Perfect Person coz I only found out about it from the Angela appearance.
There's a part (around 2:45) where he says he booked the Starfield VA gig right when he first started at Smosh so with it coming out recently, it kinda bookended "this part of his internet life".
And I was like, WHAT DOES HE MEAN? IS HE LEAVING SMOSH??
<darthvader.gif> NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
I find it interesting that he also says right before at (2:46) that he's trying to "Focus up, here soon" and since this Podcast was only 4months ago... Wonder what that means!
Ok ok joking aside I don't really think that's exactly what he meant by the things he said. I think he was mainly talking about doing more voice over work and "focus" on it more, not that he's going to fully leave Smosh.
youtube
He also says that he spent 5-6 yrs recording for that game, so that's why I think him saying "bookended this whole part of my internet life" is ONLY referring to him voicing over that game.
I'm also pretty sure "this whole" is (although it does sound like it could mean what you thought) almost definitely his southerner coming out, and what he meant was "the game coming out has bookended 5-6yrs worth of work for the voice over I did" not that he's quitting anything (I'm becoming the truth speaker of Damien Haas)
Holy shit bro, I'm getting good at this 'decoding whatever people assume Damien meant' stuff! I felt my skin glowing while I was trying to decipher what he meant lmao
I am become Truth, the Breaker of Assumptions
#Smoshblr#smosh#Damien Haas#holy fucking brain blast#I am become Truth breaker of assumptions#that might be the hardest thing I've ever written#dude honestly#im thinking about it rn and I think (weirdly enough) that if damien spoke more southern he wouldnt be as misunderstood all the time#he mixes in a lot of 'southerner' phrases that just dont come across the way he means them to#(I have a hyperfixation on how language and culture can change a persons personality)#whiles hes saying “this whole” he moves his hand around in a wiping motion#WHICH IF HE TALKED A LITTLE SLOWER AND WITH MORE OF HIS ACCENT COMES ACROSS EXACTLY LIKE I THINK HE MEANT IT#hes a southerner that has been infested with a cali accent while still keeping his way of phrasing which makes people confused#if this doesn't make any sense to you uuuhhhhhh my bad#but I think I cracked the case!#of why so many people mistake his intentions!#oh and of course I could be totally wrong and he is leaving smosh#but i dont think so

Fave lesbian whos ever hit on me on this app was this girl who wrote everything out with a very potent old fashioned southern accent (darlin, hun, sugar, left the Gs off the end of words even in writing, constantly talking abt how country she was, etc) and I was like hm this feels a little forced. But whatever who am I to assume. And anyway it turned out she was from fucking LA and she just acted like that for no reason
#to be clear abt the situation she didnt have southern family. wasnt from the south originally. not rural. middle class boring. etc#she just was rly into the idea of being southern and rural and poor so she put on a fake accent and changed her speech#to like this archetypal sexy southern butch.#if she had just said she was from cali i wouldnt have blinked btw a lottt of texans have moved over there over the years#my very southern grandparents lived there for a while before they came here#but she was like a middle class instagram variety LA girl who had zero idea was pretending to be like. a southern rancher#she reminded me of the rich tourists that come here and pay a kajillion dollars pretending to be rural and gritty for 2 weeks#buying cowboy boots and taking pictures at ranches and getting mauled by bears bcs they wont listen to the locals#before they get back in their cars and drive back to their stupid big houses lmfaooo

sometimes I like to dream about a world that does not immediately mark me as less intelligent for my accent
#for context I have a southern accent#georgia to be precise#with hint of southern appalachian which makes me sound even more like a hick when I say certain words#in my teenage years I actively worked to speak “more concisely” and lose most of the accent#because I thought it made me sound smarter and less like my peers who I deemed less intelligent#then I went to a PWI liberal arts college where most people were rich and from california or new york or some other blue state#and people were shocked by the accent I still had despite trying so hard to lose it#and now I've graduated and moved back home and work in my small southern appalachian town#with coworkers who speak so thick I even struggle to understand them sometimes#and I've worked to reclaim my accent because I've realized it's part of the culture I tried so hard to lose#a part of myself I no longer want to lose#I just wish when someone wanted to portray a character who is “less woke” or morally opposed to the left or whatever the difference#they didn't default to a southern or appalachian accent#rook rambles

can I be honest...............it's hard for me to finish this season of interview with the vampire
#🐇#I am here for lestat and so the lack of lestat is making me so fucking bored I could scream#I've never cared for louis really I always think he's boring but like jacob playing him has made me enjoy louis#but I do not™ like armand and the paris adventure and I never have#like seriously everyone was almost gaslighting me with how much they enjoyed armand in the beginning because I was like ???? he's a rat???#and I'm also struggling with the new claudia. I can't pinpoint what it is like I enjoyed season one claudia so much#I think it's her accent??? idk. she sounds like a british person trying to sound like they're southern#and also........................the hannibal fans have gotten a hold of it and it's made me lose almost all interest#when I saw people begin to compare claudia to fucking abigail I was like OVER IT lmfao#it's my own fault I was literally praying for everyone to move on from that show and look what happened#daniel however.....no notes. perfect. love how much he fucking hates armand it's what he deserves#I'm also honestly devastated that they didn't recreate the scene of them coming home to find lestat rotted and playing the piano#I've pretty much had everything spoiled for me I know lestat is coming back but like it's HARD when armand shows up I just want to mute#the tv like shut UP. at least I'll get a queen of the damned do over but god it's been hard to get to#it's just annoying. I loved the first season so much and this one has not been it for me at ALL

the thing about podcasts for me is that i actually have a really hard time listening to them and have tried to get into at least 20 if not double that over the past few years but have never been able to get through more than a few episodes and that’s usually after forcing myself. this is true for all except one podcast. because i have only ever been able to listen to and enjoy that single podcast, i listen to it on repeat and have been since 2020. i have been informed recently that this is not something that happens with other people
#informed my boss abt this and he was kinda disturbed#‘you just catch up and then start it over again? and then finish it and start it over again?’ yes#old gods of appalachia podcast of all time. genuinely.#if you go into the tag you might find my posts from years ago#one of my posts that i posted about episode 25 still gets likes occasionally#this podcast has gotten me through some really tough times when horrible things have happened in my life and it was a massive component of#my starting to heal a little after my dad passed#and now i listen to it on repeat at my job while i do lab work#old gods of appalachia#ogoa#it was also what helped me become more accepting of my southern accent. bc i moved to the south young and i tend to be a bit of an accent#chameleon so i picked it up easy and then it became how i speak. but i used to suppress it constantly (and still sometimes find myself doing#it) but hearing people who sounded similar just. helped. and i could relate a lot to details in the podcast and suddenly my accent wasn’t#just the thing they use on tv to indicate someone isn’t intelligent or is a bigot#i could write essays on this podcast and how it helped me tbh#and now it doesn’t have to help me through anything necessarily and i just get to listen to it for fun. i love it

A recent TikTok trend made me fall back into my ages old hyperfixation of Joan of Arc, which then made me start thinking about how Catholic imagery kinda slaps, which made me think about how France is home to one of the best examples of Gothic architecture (which I had a brief hyperfixation on a few years ago), and now I've domino effected myself into not being able to stop thinking about the 1996 Disney animated adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, to the point where I'm considering reading the original novel by Victor Hugo. I'm considering reading. A Victor Hugo book. Help.
#The funniest thing about this entire thing is that I'm not even christian#Also i just found out the other day that there were a Lot of Hunchback of Notre Dame adaptations in 1996. Why so many in one year? And then#after the 90s there hadn't been another one until 2023 (iirc)#Also why do we in America pronounce Notre Dame like... Like we do.#The other day I asked that question out loud and when I say Notre Dame with the American pronunciation and my accent suddenly got really#southern for no reason. Like I'm from the south but not in the 'southern accent' part#Gods I'm gonna move up north in a few years and the locals are immediately gonna clock me as southern.#Not a bad thing just a thought#Yeah my favorite cathedral. Note-er daym.#Seriously why do we say it like that? Does it feel to pretentious to say it properly? Like croissant?#I'm so fuckin tired#my posts#aberdeen talks

Every time i talk about p1 im fighting back my heart trying to make him more country
And every time i am losing more and more
#BECUASE LIKE LISTEN. LISTEN#one the accented writing yes#two arizona is only one state departed from Texas#three whos to say he wasnt southern born n raised we only know he MOVED to arizona >:)c#in personal headcanon territory i hc his mom being from oklahoma#hes just so good for like the kind country boy type. the beefy infected my brain more for it but its always been there :pensive:#in the long run its such an inconsequential headcanon i feverishly defend the right to exist but its also. a big weakness of mine.#save a horse ride a cowboy you know#before bed rambling mostly spawned by me tinkering with au stuff and assigning him a full yallternative style

Born and raised in northwest Louisiana but never had much of a southern accent despite everyone around me having very thick accents. I now live in Chicago, and when I first moved here I tried purposely to develop a Chicago accent but it didn't really take, so I think what I actually have is a sort of flat Midwestern accent that sounds a bit Chicagoan if I make an effort, and a bit southern if I'm tired or drunk
ok i absolutely need to know what accents u all have pls reblog and tell me or comment or whatever I must know
#chicago life#accents#in high school i tried to deepen my southern accent on purpose as a way to fit in with everyone else#and then in college i tried to suppress that same accent as a way to distance myself from all things Southern#because by that point i had decided i wanted to leave the south and move to a big city after i graduated#so i genuinely couldn't tell you what my accent sounds like to other people#i just know that people around here tend to be surprised when i say i'm from louisiana because it's not really reflected in the way i talk

yall have got to be more normal about Southern people and I'm not kidding. enough of the Sweet Home Alabama incest jokes, enough of the idea that all Southerners are bigots and rednecks, and enough of the idea that the South has bad food. shut up about "trailer trash" and our accents and our hobbies!
do yall know how fucking nauseating it is to hear people only bring up my state to make jokes about people in poverty and incestuous relationships? how much shame I feel that I wasn't born up north like the Good Queers and Good Leftists with all the Civilised Folk with actual houses instead of small cramped trailers that have paper thin walls that I know won't protect me in a bad enough storm?
do yall know how frustrating it is to be trans in a place that wants to kill you and whenever you bring it up to people they say "well just move out" instead of sympathizing with you or offering help?
do yall understand how alienating it is to see huge masterposts of queer and mental health resources but none of them are in your state because theyre all up north? and nobody seems to want to fix this glaring issue because "they're all hicks anyways"
Southern people deserve better. we deserve to be taken seriously and given a voice in the queer community and the mental health space and leftist talks in general.
#this is kind of a vent honestly but ive been thinking abt it a lot#ask to tag#ok to reblog#southerners#queer#lgbt#neurodivergent#alabama#georgia#tennessee#texas#discourse#?#poverty#southern queer
