Courting the White Nationalist Vote
Wow! Which President who cranks out policy that the ACLU needs to sue over do you want to vote for? I'm so excited for democracy!
I've been watching this with my fingernails digging into my chair, and it went through. Of course it did. They may not be able to enforce it, but they're gonna try.
If too many people flee the violence the US is helping create, and legally present themselves for processing like they are supposed to do, the US will stop granting asylum to anyone at the southern border until the numbers fall below 2020 levels. Pretty sure we're violating international law, here, but that's never stopped us before. Trump has also used the little loophole that says, "Actually, if it's in the national interest, we don't owe refugees anything." The national interest in this case seems to be vacuuming up the votes of the more moderate white nationalists and the folks who are willing to excuse their behaviour. Please, this is politically expedient. We must compromise!
We must also include an exception for unaccompanied minors, because what we could really use is an excuse to put more children in cages. That'll knock those scary numbers of people-begging-for-help down to 2020 levels! We've been through this. Parents care more about getting their children somewhere safe than about keeping their children. If the children have a better chance alone, they'll send the children. But if it becomes obvious that the children are not safe, they'll reconsider. So step one is manufacture a crisis of unaccompanied minors, and step two is torture them. Obama did it first, and I believed him when he said it wasn't on purpose. That level of naivete is no longer available, I no longer respond to snappy suits and eloquence, and Biden doesn't even have those. I will not get up and dance to his crappy remix.
There is an entire voting bloc of people who have been so abused and neglected that all they know how to do is harm others. Many of them are involved in fundamentalist religions that punish them for assuming the slightest level of agency and independence. They are a gun to be aimed and they will be pointed at various outgroups indiscriminately. Instead of trying to help them, both political parties are going to have a fight over who gets to use them as a power source, even though the Democrats should know by now that the Republicans will ALWAYS set the bar lower and slither under it.
So we're racing to the bottom, and Democrats will always look a little bit saner because they're a few steps behind. But we're all headed to the same place, the place where all the problems are caused by bad people it's OK to kill. We can keep manufacturing bad people and killing them forever! And everything else can stay as broken as it already is, or get even worse, because we're already doing the right thing to fix it - killing our enemies. Forever.
What really hurts my soul is knowing more people would stand up and fight this if Trump were doing it. If it's a Democrat, our objections might get an unhinged Republican elected, so we quiet down. Yeah. That means it's in the Dems' best interest to go up against the scariest, craziest Reps available. Can't beat Trump! Republicans tried and failed! 34 felonies, wow! I don't know what happens when there's no more Trump to be had, but both sides will be groping around for the worst replacement they can find. That works for them.
And it doesn't really matter how many people die to make it work. As long as they're bad!

A FerroMex train out of Zacatecas, Mexico and heading toward the U.S. southern border was packed with migrants who could be heard cheering while hanging off the sides of the cars, video shows.
The train was captured on video on Sunday, despite the U.S. sending a stern message to migrants: "do not come."
Border patrols along the southern border have been facing overwhelming numbers of illegal crossings.
For instance, Ajo, Arizona, saw 2,000 illegal crossings a day for several straight days last week, forcing agents to resort to street releases because shelters are packed. The migrants include people from Africa.
Last month, there were well over 20,000 migrants in Border Patrol custody, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection source, in the Rio Grande Valley sector in Texas.
Caravans heading toward the southern border included families with infants and children, along with unaccompanied minors.
Of the families that were stopped along the Rio Grande Valley, many were released with future court dates.
The Biden administration is considering forcing migrants who cross into the U.S. to illegally remain in Texas while they wait out their asylum screening.
Officials with the administration have cited the plan as a way to curb the flow of illegal immigrants at the southern border. The plan would also include the implementation of ankle bracelets to track their location, for migrants who are actually caught. But the administration sued Texas to force it to remove a barrier the state floated in the Rio Grande in an effort to curb the historic level of illegal migration. The Biden administration also sued Arizona for building a barrier out of shipping containers on its border with Mexico.
The migrants would undergo an asylum screening to determine whether they can remain in the U.S. Officials have discussed working with local groups to provide housing for the migrants.
Since May, DHS has removed or returned over 200,000 people, the agency said.
"DHS continuously holds policy and operational discussions on how to leverage our authorities to ensure a fair, humane, and effective immigration process that efficiently removes those without a lawful basis to stay in the country," the DHS statement said.
Texas has been operating a busing program to transport migrants to "sanctuary cities" like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Los Angeles to provide relief to border towns.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott argues that Texas cities have carried the weight of illegal immigration and "sanctuary cities" need to share that burden.
"Texas has bused over 35,000 migrants to self-declared sanctuary cities," he wrote earlier this month on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. "Over 11,300 to D.C., over 13,300 to NYC, over 6,700 to Chicago, over 2,600 to Philadelphia, over 1,000 to Denver, over 480 to LA." ______________________

Spanish PM flies to Africa amid record influx of migrants
As migrant numbers soar, the office of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said on Wednesday he would embark on a three-day visit to Mauritania, Gambia and Senegal, from whose shores boats carrying migrants heading for the Spanish archipelago are departing, Brussels Signal reports.
According to Fernando Clavijo, governor of the Canary Islands, tens of thousands of people have already reached Spain, while around 300,000 more sub-Saharan Africans are currently waiting in Mauritania for better sea conditions to try to cross to the Canary Islands.
According to Spanish Interior Ministry figures for the period 1-15 August, migration was up 143 per cent in the Spanish autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla on the North African coast compared to last year, and 126 per cent higher in the Canary Islands. Local journalist Ximena Borrazás told Brussels Signal:
“Here in the Canary Islands, the situation is tense. So far this year, 11,000 people have already arrived. In less than 24 hours, 295 people arrived on Hierro [in the Canaries], a very small island that does not have the resources to accommodate so many.”
Fernando Clavijo, governor of the Canary Islands, had earlier criticised Sánchez for not taking the time to discuss the refugee influx with him, noting that the prime minister was on holiday in the islands. Clavijo told reporters on August 19:
“Come on, I find it hard to understand he would go on holiday to Lanzarote and we could not have that half hour or that hour to deal with these matters. But it is not up to me, I am available.”
However, on August 20, Sánchez said he would meet with Clavijo on August 23, when he plans to visit La Palma.
Clavijo said Sánchez should amend the migrant law to allow the movement of unaccompanied migrants from the Canary Islands to other regions of Spain. He added that there are currently around 5,700 unaccompanied minors living on the islands and there is already not enough space to accommodate them, with a new surge of arrivals expected in the coming months.
In May, a juvenile centre on Lanzarote failed an official inspection due to reports of an ant and cockroach infestation. If Sánchez was hoping for more encouraging news from Mauritania’s leadership about the 300,000 migrants waiting to be sent to Spain, he was likely disappointed. Borrazás said the prime minister “is likely to invest money to try to stem the flow of migrants.”
Mauritania was the main source of wooden boats arriving in the Canary Islands at the end of 2023, a trend that analysts believe will increase over the next few months as the sea water calms down.
According to official figures, seven out of 10 irregular migrants entering Spain do so via the Canary Islands, with 50 per cent sailing off the coast of Mauritania. In its report, the Spanish Guardia Civil also predicted that there would soon be a “significant upsurge” in illegal migration to the Canary Islands.
Huge groups of migrants are constantly trying to cross both the southern and island borders of Spain. In recent years, the Canary route has solidified its status as the world’s deadliest route.

Spain’s far-right VOX party has broken off its coalition agreements with the centre-right Partido Popular (PP/EPP) in five regions, VOX leader Santiago Abascal said on Thursday, after the PP agreed to the government’s proposed measure to take in hundreds of unaccompanied minors, despite VOX previously saying it would not accept it. Euractiv’s partner EFE reported that the political “divorce” affects five regions where both parties govern together but, in principle, not the city councils where PP and VOX also have government pacts. “Nobody has voted for VOX, and I dare say the PP to allow an invasion of illegal migrants”, Abascal said in a speech at his party’s headquarters on Thursday evening. In a brief statement to the media, Abascal said that as of Thursday, all government agreements with the PP in these regions had been “broken”. “It is impossible to make a pact with those who do not want it,” said Abascal, adding that regional VOX ministers will now “go into opposition.” However, according to PP sources, the governability and stability of the affected regions are guaranteed for the time being. From now on, one possible scenario is the calling of early elections. VOX had previously held twelve regional ministries in the five regional governments governed by the PP. VOX and the PP governed alongside each other in Castilla y León, Aragón, Comunidad Valenciana, Extremadura and Murcia. At an extraordinary meeting of the heads of government of Spain’s 17 autonomous communities on Wednesday, it was agreed that except for Catalonia, 347 migrant minors from the Canary Islands and the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta would be taken in voluntarily under guardianship.

First link for people who might not trust a Canadian news source and the second is more on the human trafficking angle. It looks like these kids absolutely were trafficked over the border and were potentially given social security numbers that were verified as real SSNs by the government's E-Verify system.
Gina Swenson, a spokesperson for PSSI, said investigators from Homeland Security Investigations have not contacted the company. “We have not been contacted by DHS and have no knowledge that any such investigation exists,” she said.
“We have always taken rigorous steps to comply with the law, including use of the government’s E-Verify system for new hires, extensive training for all hiring managers, multiple audits, and use of biometrics,” Swenson said. “Our compliance plans are also modeled after the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recommended best practices.”
Homeland Security Investigations’ inquiry into possible human trafficking was triggered by the large numbers of migrant minors involved in the case and not necessarily by specific allegations of trafficking, two DHS officials say.
And then this
Advocates and lawyers for the children say some of the child workers for PSSI were unaccompanied minors who recently came across the southern border. Unaccompanied minors are processed by the Border Patrol and then turned over to the Office of Refugee Resettlement within the Department of Health and Human Services. The children are then matched with sponsors who usually have some link to their families.
Rural counties where the Labor Department found children working in PSSI facilities have become home to hundreds of unaccompanied minors living with sponsors since 2015, according to data collected and released by HHS. Advocates and officials are concerned that some of the minors may be working in the counties’ significant livestock industry.
In Grand Island, where children were found to be working in the JBS plant, the number of unaccompanied minors has ebbed and flowed over the years. In 2016, 63 were released to sponsors. Then there were none until 2019, when 71 arrived. In 2021, 90 children arrived and then 89 more in 2022.
First off, it's absolutely disgusting that this is going on anywhere in the United States, let alone at a large, "legit" company like PSSI. Everyone involved in this should be thrown in the deepest pit of a jail and not see the light of day for at least 20 years. But since some people in the notes seem to be eager to blame capitalism and only capitalism, I want to highlight the above sections from the NBC article. This is only one town, but note the years when there were no unaccompanied minors. Remember when the migrant caravans started. Remember who funds the migrant caravans. Remember the open borders policies that are being pushed by the current administration. This is not happening in an evil capitalist vacuum. These children are being trafficked into the US because ICE and Border Patrol aren't allowed to do their jobs. Then they're being distributed across the entire country by the government. They are then potentially (and I say potentially because investigations are still ongoing and the person mentioning E-Verify is the PSSI spokesman, so even though this 100% confirms my biases I can't say it's 100% true, yet) being given SSNs that identify them as adults by the government's own E-Verify system. This is not just a greedy corporation employing child labor. This is only possible because of the porous border and the government's policy of shipping children all over the US and then forgetting about them. This is only possible because there are large, connected child trafficking networks operating within our borders.
The problem of child trafficking won't stop until the border can be secured and the agencies who are responsible for making sure children aren't being trafficked into the country are allowed to do their jobs. And even then, the fight is only just beginning. This is the kind of evil that must be confronted on all fronts. And the sad fact is some of our most effective means for fighting on some of these fronts are being hamstrung by the very government certain people want to give even more power to.

Haiyan Liao Pleads Guilty in Visa Fraud and Immigrant Smuggling Scheme - New York New York (STL.News) A Las Vegas woman Haiyan Liao, pleaded guilty today in the Eastern District of New York to money laundering conspiracy and conspiracy to unlawfully bring Chinese nationals into the United States for financial gain. According to court documents, Haiyan Liao, 46, a naturalized U.S. citizen and native of China, engaged in a scheme with others to assist noncitizens from China in entering the United States by fraudulently obtaining visitor visas.  Liao and her co-conspirators submitted applications containing false statements to the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, China.  For the noncitizens whose applications were approved, Liao facilitated their travel to the United States and accompanied them on commercial flights to Queens and Brooklyn, New York.  Four of the noncitizens were unaccompanied minors.  The noncitizens and their families paid thousands of dollars to Liao and others to get to the United States.  As a result of this scheme, Liao reaped at least $98,673.72 in illicit proceeds through wire transmissions from China to the United States. “The Criminal Division is committed to prosecuting human smugglers who undermine the rule of law by trying to circumvent our lawful immigration system,” said Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite, Jr. of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.  “As Liao’s conviction demonstrates, we will continue to hold accountable people who take advantage of vulnerable populations for personal greed.” “Liao was paid thousands of dollars to help lie to the federal government to bring individuals, including unaccompanied minors, into the United States for her own selfish gain,” said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace for the Eastern District of New York.  “This office stands committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting the integrity of our immigration process.” “The Diplomatic Security Service’s global presence provides it with the expertise necessary to dismantle transnational human smuggling networks,” said Deputy Assistant Director of Investigations Robert Kelty of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS).  “Today’s guilty plea demonstrates DSS’ commitment to protecting vulnerable populations, stemming the tide of human smuggling, and targeting those who abuse our nation’s visa system.” Liao pleaded guilty to conspiracy to unlawfully bring aliens into the United States for financial gain, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, and money laundering conspiracy, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.  She is scheduled to be sentenced on December 8, 2023.  A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. I can !! Alright, this is very important to say first of all - its a low chance he will actually do these things. Donald J Trump is known for making empty false promises every other heart beat.
: TRANS RELATED PROMISES :
Trump said on “day one” he would reverse the Biden administration’s expansion of Title IX that will prohibit federally funded schools from preventing transgender students from using bathrooms, locker rooms and pronouns that align with their gender identities.
Trump told a crowd in Iowa in March he would sign an executive order to “cut federal funding” for schools pushing “critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children.”
In January, he released a video detailing a range of policies targeting gender-affirming care for minors, including pressing Congress to approve a federal ban and several measures to restrict federal funding when it came to trans issues.
Trump said he would block doctors who provide gender-affirming care from Medicare and Medicaid, forbid federal agencies from actions to “promote the concept of sex and gender transition at any age,” and task the Justice Department with investigating the medical industry to see if they “deliberately covered up horrific long-term side effects of sex transitions in order to get rich.”
In the video, Trump laid out additional plans for extending the restrictions to schools, promising “severe consequences,” including potential civil rights violations, for educators who “suggest to a child they could be trapped in the wrong body.”
In 2022 Trump told a crowd in Texas he would ban transgender individuals from competing in women’s sports, and attacked transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, weeks after her hotly debated record-breaking swim meet in Ohio while she was competing on the University of Pennsylvania swim team.

“Pregnant, unaccompanied girls should … not [be] trafficked across state lines to be victimized by the abortion industry.” (in reference to abortion for kids and teenagers.)—p. 478
“Climate-change research should be disbanded. … The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) should be broken up and downsized. … [The Office of Air and Radiation] … is the source of much of NOAA’s climate alarmism.”—p. 675-676

“These are the mediating institutions that serve as the building blocks of any healthy society. Marriage. Family. Work. Church. School. Volunteering.” —p. 3
“Future leadership must address the widely promoted ‘woke’ culture that has spread throughout the federal government with identity politics and ‘social justice’ advocacy replacing such traditional American values as patriotism, colorblindness, and even workplace competence.” —p. 204
“Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. … The male–female dyad is essential to human nature and … every child has a right to a mother and father.”— p. 451 and 461
“The next conservative President must make the institutions of American civil society hard targets for woke culture warriors. This starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity (‘SOGI’), diversity, equity, and inclusion (‘DEI’), gender, gender equality, gender equity, gender awareness, gender-sensitive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term used to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists.”—p. 4-5
“Whether it be mask and vaccine mandates, school and business closures, efforts to keep Americans from driving gas cars or using gas stoves, or efforts to defund the police, indoctrinate schoolchildren, alter beloved books, abridge free speech, undermine the colorblind ideal, or deny the biological reality that there are only two sexes, the Left’s steady stream of insanity appears to be never-ending. …

“The U.S. government should not and cannot promote or fund abortion in international programs or multilateral organizations.”—p. 192
“Biden declared a radical assault on the policy of protecting life, choosing instead to promote abortion on demand around the world under the guise of ‘sexual and reproductive health and rights.’ … The continued high rate of maternal and infant mortality is a persistent global tragedy. An investigation into a private programme bringing Chinese students to study at Finnish high schools in areas facing dwindling enrollments is the daily's top-read story.
The education importer, Finest Future, is run by former Rovio chief Peter Vesterbacka. While many municipalities have jumped aboard the project, government officials have been less enthusiastic about the plan to bring unaccompanied minors to Finland.
For municipalities the risks are small, as a significant portion of the funding for upper secondary education comes from state subsidies. This year, the average amount is around 7,600 euros per high school student. However, there is considerable variation. For example, in Savukoski, the annual cost per student exceeds 31,000 euros.
Finest Futures' website suggests that pupils graduating high school in Finland have a path to permanent residency and Finnish citizenship.
According to the paper, the Finnish foreign ministry issued a memo in December 2022, sending it to embassies and ministry department heads about the matter: "The Ministry for Foreign Affairs should not actively support businesses involving underage schoolchildren."
Unlike student exchanges, Finest Futures' business model involves minors lacking formal support in Finland, the ministries noted, referencing human trafficking concerns, according to HS.
Russian ammonia
Finland has closed all but one eastern border checkpoint to stop asylum seekers from crossing over from Russia. However at the same time, Turun Sanomat reports that Russian raw materials continue to move through the Turku rail yard.
Every week, 64 freight cars of ammonia pass through the city as chemical company Yara continues to source raw materials from Russia.
The ammonia is destined for Yara's fertilizer factory in Uusikaupunki.
"At the moment 10 percent of the ammonia at Uusikaupunki's factory is sourced from Russia. Rail transport has not closed on the Russian border," said Teija Kankaanpää, Yara's plant manager in Uusikapunki.
Wintry weekend
Meteorologists are forecasting a cold and wintry weekend ahead, with light and scattered snowfall in different parts of the country, reports Maaseudun tulevaisuus.
Cool air flowing down to Finland from the northeast is pushing daytime high temperatures in many parts of the country to -10C or below.
Next week will see fresh snow in southern and central areas and wind adding extra chill to low temperatures.

What if I made my ticket reservation or purchase through a travel agent or online travel company ?
When service cannot be provided as agreed upon on a flight to, within, or from the United States, ticket agents and online travel firms are obligated to issue "appropriate" reimbursements.
The Department reads the need for ticket agents to issue "appropriate" refunds to mean that they must issue refunds if the following circumstances exist:
If a flight is cancelled by an airline or substantially altered
An airline admits that a customer is eligible for a refund.
A ticket agent is in charge of the passenger’s funds.
What should I do if I'm eligible for a refund and want to get one from a travel agency or airline?
If you feel that you are entitled to a refund, you should proactively seek one in writing from an airline or a ticket agency.
You should register a complaint with the Department at http://airconsumer.dot.gov/escomplaint/ConsumerForm.cfm against the airline or ticket agent if you contact them to request a necessary refund and they refuse to give it to you.
How soon must airlines, travel brokers, and online booking sites handle a refund?
Airlines and ticket brokers must provide refunds right away.
In the context of airlines, "prompt" is understood to mean either within 7 business days for credit card payments or within 20 days for cash or check payments.
The term "prompt" is not defined for ticket agents.
