no traveller ship has ever rlly worked to me (other than ayaka bc it was very heavily hinted in canon) UNTIL TODAY. HERE IS MY FORMAL DISSERTATION ON WHY LYNETHER WORKS

neither of them have pairs - genshin purposefully does this thing where they pair up characters (eg: chongyun & xingqiu, jean & lisa) which is why there are so many popular ships in the fandom. i think lyney's effective pair is meant to be lynette & aether doesnt have one bc hes meant to be a player-insert but that leaves SO MUCH ROOM bc when you think about it the closest thing lyney has to a love interest IS AETHER

siblings - both of them are elder brothers and both are TWINS . they also both have a youngest sibling figure (freminet and paimon; dont tell me paimon isnt a younger sister figure bc if u open a modern au ALMOST ALWAYS she is presented as "aether and lumines younger sister") their backstories are similar (losing their other half) so they canonically understand each other (There's nothing in the world I treasure more than my family, so I know what it must be like for you -Lyney, Friendship LV4) THIS LEADS INTO MY OTHER POINT

Im gonna talk about personalities (and autism) in professor layton for a second, especially in miracle mask.

it is very tragic that layton isn’t even really his own person. Like he was struck with death during a time he was still struggling to form his own identity. He really was sort of just following Randall around and letting him take him by the hand and thrust him into anything. This is a relationship I found myself in again and again growing up, getting “adopted” by an extroverted kid and then getting all my social connections through them.

This kind of relationship makes it easy to lose your own personhood as it takes away nearly all your agency in terms of your social life. You begin surrounding yourself with people and personalities that match whoever adopted you rather than your own tastes, and you begin conforming in order to survive more or less.

This sounds pretty tragic, and in some ways it is, but it’s a lot better (and easier) than being alone, which often happens if you don’t get “taken in”.

I think Randall was an overall good influence on Hershel and positive presence in his life. It just happens that Hershel himself seems to have been especially prone to this sort of thing, to the point such a lack of personal identity (or, at least, instability in finding it) caused him to completely adopt Randall’s passions and interests out of sheer guilt, almost as if he owed him a debt. After all, it’s easy to feel indebted to the person who goes out of their way to talk to the “autistic kid” …. Part of this could easily be because Hershel had already begun integrating Randall’s interests into himself (likely subconsciously as part of this survival mechanism) and being suddenly ripped away from this it was pushed to an extreme as a way of filling that void.

Hersh also shows signs of generally not thinking much of himself. Being a more secluded kid makes it easy to develop this kind of self image…and also why having a friend who constantly encourages you like Randall is so intoxicating.

We see Hershel time and time again say how he isn’t that interested in archaeology or puzzles, nor is he confident in his ability to do either - to the point he actively expects himself to get incorrect answers, as his puzzle solve animation shows a brace for a huge “INCORRECT” sign only to be surprised he found a solution.

Meanwhile, Randall is the face of confidence.

I don’t need to point out how next time we see Hershel, he has faith in his own puzzle solving abilities - “My intuition should serve me well”, even taking from Randall’s personal lexacon, “Critical thinking is the key to success.”

I won’t ignore the grief and guilt, as the role it plays is obvious. I only want to point out how instead of being the source itself of Hershel’s radical adoption of Randall’s personality, I read it more as an extreme driver of an already existing tendency to mimic those around him as a sort of survival mechanism. In times of crisis these mechanisms are put into overdrive.

(As others have pointed out, this also happens with Claire and the gentleman persona she encouraged him into, but that’s another subject.)

I also want to examine this in Randall himself, since we see a pretty interesting inversion of Hershel’s situation on his part.

The risk-taking, erratic behavior we see in Randall is something I’m pretty sure stems from his hatred for his father and the general life he is made to live. A stuffy mansion doesn’t suit him, if his kind of goofy outfit has anything to say about it. He stands in stark contrast to the other rich Stansbury kid, Dalston, who is altogether enthusiastic about business and wealth.

Where I think this gets especially interesting is when Randall falls into Akbadain. Having experienced a “reset”, he quickly adapts to his new life. He isn’t an entirely different person - he still has proficiency in puzzles as Firth/Tannenbaum tells us.

And if his reaction to Descole’s letter was anything to go by, he’s still as impulsive and emotionally driven as ever.

What we get to see from his time in Craggy Dale is a Randall relieved of his old life - no smothering father, no family fortune, no mansion. In fact, we get a life that is essentially a polar opposite, complete with a loving adoptive father and slow-paced life that “tames the wildest of hearts”. Being allowed to breathe and live slowly creates a Randall who, while still brainy and enthusiastic, is radically different from the Randall Hershel, Henry, and Angela knew.

This is why the ending of Miracle Mask sort of bothers me, as I fully believe Randall would not want to pick up where he left of when he was 17. He literally got himself “killed” living that life, likely pushed and simultaneously blinded by the pressure from his family, which mixed horribly with his own impulsivity and need for freedom. I would imagine growing up in a mansion causes you to develop a less than realistic view of life and your own abilities.

This is where Hersh comes back in, as it’s pretty serendipitous in my eyes that the person he “absorbed” the personality of happened to move on from that personality in a pretty dramatic way. This way there isn’t any sort of doppelganger tension. Ultimately, Randall did want Hershel to develop an interest in archaeology and puzzles, and it seems he’s satisfied with that.

(also I think it’s a little bit creepy that they had Randall adopt the same haircut and glasses he had when he was 17 with a “now you’re back to normal” attitude, going off what I just discussed, but I digress)

Essentially, it’s crystal clear to me how Hershel developed his personality considering his upbringing eerily reflecting the way I survived as an autistic kid, and the fact much of Randall’s personality/life direction was derived from the circumstances of the life he later shed makes it kind of poetic. At the end of it all I think they have a lot to learn from each other just as they did when they were teens, especially from the experience they gained since then.

body physique-wise, tbh i think he should go for date tech however, his playing style and personality would be the most suitable to being in a team like inarizaki. specifically the ability to stay calm despite the tension and pressure of the game/opponent. i think he would be such a great addition to them and i think he would handle the miya twins well. he can be like a sugawara counterpart to them. sungho is also quite competitive although he can be a little bit clueless at times. regardless, he still strives to be a strong and reliable member of the team.

additional: i think he would clash often with suna though lmao. but would later on realize they actually work well together and would form some unspoken "i still hate your ahh but i have gained respect for you" brocode thing. also, he would be the miya twins number one favorite target to tease, please pray for sungho!

lee sanghyeok ☆ 리우

karasuno !!

riwoo has this vibe that matches karasuno. i think the closest way i can desribe it is the passion and drive to do something that you really love. riwoo is bnd's youngest performance director and has traits of a leader. his leadership skills is an additional trait that makes him karasuno material to me. plus, karasuno going through their flop era after the little giant (im sorry for the lack of better terms) and then being blessed with skilled first years (tobio and shoyo), he would make that his biggest source of motivation to play. i think he would be most similar with sugawara's overall leading style (a bit more strict and direct though). but skills and character wise..... walk with me, hoshiumi. but that is saved for bnd as haikyuu characters.

additional: he would get dragged by noya to be in the goofballs club and he would lose his sanity. somehow managed to have made some sort of bond with tsuki and now yamaguchi clings to him too. daichi would have him in the list of potentially the next captain of karasuno once they graduate. and lastly, yachi would be so grateful to have him in the team, he helps her out a lot

fukurodani !!

saw somewhere (i forgot) that he would be in aoba johsai but i think they would get overwhelmed with his energy. on the other hand, teams who can handle the overwhelmingly extroverted, energy filled, mbti "f" personified goofballs, are karasuno and fukurodani. he would suit karasuno as well but they have enough of the energetic members already. please let the introverts of karasuno have a rest, pray for their sanity for they have noya, shoyo, yamaguchi (honorary) and tanaka. and then i also imagined him playing alongside bokuto and realized that they would be such an inseparable duo together (in court) like they would just match each other's energy. overall i think fukurodani's energy has a good balance that would hone his skills well

additional: bokuto would absolutely adore him! hinata would be jealous because mj would replace him as bokuto's new "apprentice" but then would also admire mj's skills (he improved quickly after training endlessly with bokuto) and end up befriending him.

"he is kageyama! he should be in karasuno!" ALRIGHT NOW! trust me, there is no bigger enthusiast for the kageyama x taesan than me, my username is literally tobiotaesan BUT hear me out. taesan is also a cat and karasuno are crows. kinda fitting for him too but this household is sole believer of cat taesan. sometimes people can be associated with animals based on their characteristics (literally kpop idols deciding their rep emoji) or resemblance to it. it cannot be denied that nekkoma really are a bunch of cats. but thats not actually why i put taesan in nekkoma. taesan has great potential to be a really good blocker (he is a giant like his name suggests), following kuroo's steps. overall however, i think he would be a well-rounded player. and like everyones thoughts, he really would have similar playing style as tobio. but he would be pushed towards being focused as a blocker more to take advantage of his height. but then he is also quite brainy and would definitely contribute to strategizing with kenma and hence, i think he is very fitting to be in nekkoma.

additional: kenma would hate him rip. when he first tried to present his thoughts and suggestions during a game (the opponents were almost on par with them) kenma was pissed lol but then he realized that taesan was right, they won and kenma got even more pissed lmao

IM SORRY BUT HE IS NOT KENMA! he is another case of "i dont think he should be in that team but instead *insert other team name*" but walk with me now. does he or does he not resemble oikawa? i know i said this is not a bnd as haikyuu characters but really! i cannot be the only one! he is a little bit more reserved and collected compared to oikawa but the overall dynamics of aoba johsai members, their passion for volleyball and playing style, is something that i see leehan would be able to maintain. he might be considered to become the next captain but would decline it. he gives me the silent but deadly on the court and then a softie fish obssessed loser outside (lmao)

additional: oikawa now has competition with having the most fangirls lol but he would love training leehan. he would want to make him better than kageyama lmao. is definitely on the watchlist of coach washijou, he is being considered to be invited for under-19 world youth summer training (? does anyone the exact name for it) like oikawa, ushijima thinks he shouldve joined shiratorizawa instead

coach washijou would like him because he is tall and is still growing but i think he would be too intimidated by ushijima and hence, date tech. regardless, he unexpecredly fits really well with them. his height still comes in handy with the team. date tech is known for their defense aka the "iron wall" and somewhat rage-filled passion when playing and woonhak would just be in awe of their gameplay process. he would love being a player for the team and would strive to become a very good blocker like his seniors. he wants to be part of the iron wall too. was intimidated by ushijima but he improved so quickly and was invited to train with him in the under-19 world youth summer training (forgot the exact name sorry)

additional: when he was in middle school (idk wtf that is actually) he wanted to find a sport that would suit him so that he would know which club to join in when he is in high school. his dad took him to watch the inter-high championships and fell in love with volleyball. may or may not have watched the little giant and aspired to be like him but he grew up to be taller than him. then, he realized his potential to be a blocker and went to date tech.

Physical appearance:

4’6 height

Indigo hair, fluffy and reaches by his nape.

Prior to his resurrection, Ruu had dark blue eyes (Almost black.)

But after being blessed by the Thunderbird, his eyes changed into a vibrant blue hue with red irises.

But unfortunately, his eyes had lost their shine, like Tartaglia fashion.

Speaking of shine, his eyes became one of his newfound insecurities.

Random ahh headcanon, but he has calloused hands.

He worked with his father with hunting food soo there's that.

Personality headcanon:

Positive traits: Caring, soft-spoken, and understanding.

Onto the negative traits. He can be a bit of a traditionalist. He only knew his island for 2,000 years, so it's only safe to assume he does things the way his parents do it.

Like making sure to do things three times per day.

But there are times his traditional values are challenged, and he gets stubborn about them.

Although after a few self-actualization and spending in the nature will he realize the other's POV.

Speaking of caring, there are times he can be a people pleaser.

Hungry for more fish? Sure, he'll give you his only meal.

Cold? Sure, he'll give you his coat and sleep in his undershirt.

Some habits die hard, i guess.

But because of his people pleasing attitude, he becomes sensitive when criticisms arise.

Finally! The fun part!

Since im this AU, Ruu is resurrected by the Thunderbird, he basically had some of her abilities, although weaken and still clumsy.

First is his electro affinity. He has some control over the electro element despite not having a vision... Although when ashed by strangers, he simply say that he keeps his vision hidden.

Some degree of electro immunity. Well, he is MADE from her remaining power so it'd be weird not to add it here. BUT throw his ass in the Raiden domain and he's coming out extra crispy.

Wings manifestation: Sorta like Wanderer's skill, he can summon wings to aid his journey. The cost? It is tiring to use on the long term.

Some healing capabilities: he can heal small gaze and bruises, but anything bigger than that will require an electro source for him to absorb.

Immortality: lil guy is a spirit now, so unless he runs out of Electro fuel, he's here for a long time.

Likes and dislikes:

Let's state the obvious: He likes to travel. A lot. To the point of being stuck in one place can seem tiresome to him.

He likes the ocean AND seafood (srry Nahida and Zhongli.) He grew up learning how to fish and watching his mama cook their meal, so it's a very sentimental thing for him.

To add on the last hc: When Ruu's upset, he'd fly to the nearest body of water and listen to the streams/waves to calm him down.

Likes fermented veggies! (Ainu culture irl have a lot of them, so it's only fair I incorporate that into his character.)

Onto dislikes!

He hates blood and pain for... Obvious reasons.

Not too keen on spicy food (He would have a love hate relationship w/Kimchi fr fr)

Used with more simple flavors (serve him curry and he'll combust like a fucking overcharged slime.)

He has such a fascination with songs and instruments!

Random fact: In Ainu culture, people pass down their legends and stories through oral literature.

So he also wants to hear about Teyvat through its songs. (He would've LOVE Yunjin and her opera.)

He loves birds, especially the bigger ones!

Although this may sound odd, but he has grown an irrational fear with silence.

If there's ever a beat of silence in a conversation, he would immediately fill it in with a soft hum or a random thought.

Oh! Also he's close to his mama, which I hc to be named as Sak. (Sak means summer while Mata (his papa) means winter.)

Personality: im pretty introverted, i dont really talk to people all that much until i get a chance to ramble ablution my interests, and then i could go on for hours. I tend to be quite sarcastic with most anyone, and get annoyed really easily when people make obvious mistakes/being idiotic, despite me doing similar things myself. Even tho Ive said all this, i sometimes get shoved into the therapist role to have everyone talk to me about their life problems. Likes: Cosplaying, anime, music, VOCALOID, Story and lore heavy games like genshin, collecting rocks, any kind of gemstone, sea shells, manga collecting, reading, laying around in bed, going to conventions.

Dislikes: Spiders and snakes, people cutting in front of me in line, people walking slow in front of me, especially when i need to go somewhere in a hurry. realistic blood and death, Loud noises and sudden bright lights, excess amounts of cheese on pizzas, especially if its just mozzarella, squashes and zucchini (i have a reason) and certain clothing textures touching when i wear them. Also dresses. I hate dresses, especially ones that go past my knees.

Hobbies: Cosplay is one, i love doing it and makeup just for fun to go out in, i really like playing video games, i adore reading manga, and other light novels.

Other things: Ive got diagnosed insomnia and its difficult for me to sleep without holding something like a pillow, plush animal, or another person. I also wear an earphone headband to sleep with white noise.

Okay, since you’re easily annoyed, Dazai might seem like a strange matchup since he’s likely the source of most of your annoyance. But I really do think you’d get along well.

i think it is important to rmb that megumis parallel is not getou but gojo in terms of who he mirrors in the story

im not that confident in my characterization of him!! in general, outwardly - megumi struggles with being emotionally open. contrarily he is very upright in his beliefs to the point of being stubborn. when writing him in dialogue and action, megumi is not very dishonest but he will refuse to answer or dodge questions he doesn't want to. he never lies but he will skirt around it

megumi is someone who is silently bearing a burden that i think frequently goes overlooked also!! he is the only one of his friends who is truly familiar with the grimness of the jjk world and that causes him to instinctively be guarded. nobara and yuuji manage 2 get past that bc they are so innocent and extroverted but this is part of why he is so distant with gojo despite caring about him as much as he does.

megumi also has a lot of distrust for authority lol and i think its relevant to mention. he is VERY obstinate and does not like being told what to do.

megumis main thing is trying to remedy the things he has seen so often in sorcery with his own beliefs. he doesn't see sorcerer as something the noble do and is able to recognize it for what it is and do his best in relation 2 that.

he cares for the people in his life Very Deeply but that care and that emotion tend to be the main source of his troubles and worries dfgldk

I am a mid-twenties bisexual woman. I have a degree in psychology and worked in therapy (specifically for PTSD in veterans and medical staff/first responder types) for a few years before transitioning to a marine mammal rehab and research non-profit. I have an avid love for reading, pop culture, and specifically movies. I am a huge fan of both well told stories and well made art, and I enjoy watching all sorts of movies to see both. You and Hughie meet in a small local record store in Washington Park. Even in the age of iPhones and streaming, Hughie is a huge CD guy, and always makes sure to stop by vinyl and music stores to stock up on some of his favorites (and stare wistfully at the guitars, but that's another story).

When he spots you over by the section of your favorite band, Hughie is thrilled; he, too, is a huge dad rock connoisseur, and it's not often he finds someone as cute as you in the CD store. Usually it's just very strange old guys who give me mean looks. So, as Hughie does, he walks over to you and very, very awkwardly starts a conversation with you ("oh, you like [band name]? That's a great pick!" queue nervous laugh).

Surprisingly, his nervousness works on you, and you two end up exchanging numbers at the end of your exchange. Hughie's a painfully earnest guy and has not mastered the art of subtlety, so it doesn't really start with any smoothness. Instead, expect a lot of cat GIFs, smiley emoticons, and general millennialness (but make it cute, and make it Hughie).

After texting you and learning about the work you do, Hughie is smitten, and invites you out on a date to volunteer at an animal shelter, because who doesn't love puppies and conversation?

Annie is your number one fan, and your best friend in the group, due to your personality and work ethic. It's extremely hard to come by someone like you in "The Boys" universe — someone who does so much good for the world, and in spite of how the world treats them, does their best to keep giving back to it positively — and would make a point to become friends with you ASAP.

She tends to rewatch the same movies, listen to the same songs, etc. — she's a creature of habit — so she loves asking for song recommendations and going out to movies with you. She also is a big Facetime person, and would call you every other night to catch up, whether she's taking off her makeup or coming off of a crappy patrol.

Additionally, once she starts the Starlight Foundation, she would immediately try recruiting you to work hands-on due to your experience.

M.M. adores you as well. While mostly a fan of oldschool hip hop and rap, he can get down to some dad rock (the guy could probably recite Led Zep's entire discography on the spot if you asked him), and whenever you wear any band tees, you get a nod of approval from him. He's a pretty busy, but would always take time to talk to you whenever you stop by.

Frenchie and Kimiko love you — they both think you're an absolute badass. Interactions with them would be pretty limited due to Hughie not wanting you to be put in any unnecessary danger, but they always hang out with you when you stop by, and Kimiko definitely invites you over to movie nights.

Those movie nights are very fun, and cute, by the way. She makes popcorn and sets up the hideout to be as comfy as possible. The girl loves ya.

Butcher has a lot of unresolved romantic feelings for you which he pushes down because A) our boy is not a homewrecker, and B) it's always hard for him to grapple with those sorts of close, intimate emotions. He likes you for the same reasons Annie does, and your caring, hardworking nature are the best qualities he's felt he can find in a person.
