Thorin:

In The Hobbit films, Thorin's Adaptation Personality Change turns him into this. He's an exiled king who's intensely driven by the desire to reclaim his people's homeland of Erebor from the dragon Smaug despite nearly everyone around him viewing his quest as a fool's errand, has suffered through watching his brother and many other brethren die, and is a charismatic and inspiring leader to his company but also a hard-headed dwarf whose pride makes things more difficult than they needed to be at several points. He succeeds in reclaiming Erebor, but tragically succumbs to the dragon sickness of his family line in doing so and dies after finally defeating his hated nemesis Azog.

Maho Nishizumi:

Maho Nishizumi of Girls und Panzer is an Aloof Big Sister to Miho who is willing to do whatever it takes to live up to the expectations associated with being the heir to the Nishizumi family so that Miho can live and practice tankery the way she wants, and to that end shot an enemy flag tank when it tried to rescue some of her teammates, which she seems to feel some measure of guilt over. She even has a pose similar to the page image in Episode 10, when she looks on her school's tanks.

dhfgshgfd so I have joined the Red Hunting Dogs Debate and have until now been firmly opposed to the idea that they were turned red to "lessen the resemblance to the Nazi uniform and be less offensive" because:

1) There is absolutely no source on this. Japanese twitter is just kinda confused by the choice. I believe this was made up by westerners who know nothing about Japan, which brings me to-

2) Japan idolizes Nazis. Yes it's messed up, but it's a fact we shouldn't pretend doesn't exist. One of the top 20 best selling manga in the country for the last few years, "Makai no Shuyaku wa Wareware da" (or "We are the Main Characters of the Demon World" is chock full of Nazi imagery, including but not limited to one of the characters wearing a nazi-ized school uniform as their regular outfit and another character's official name being "gruppen führer" (a rank in the nazi party). Makai no Shuyaku wa Wareware da is considered children's media. There are too many examples of this to list, from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to Girls Und Panzer and even yaoi manga. Japan of all places would not try to lessen the uniform's resemblance to nazis, and given some other alterations to character designs Bones has made in this season and in the past, I think if they ever tried they would go a lot further than a color change.

3) The animators don't care what the west thinks. That's right, America has no effect on their production. Shocking!! The target audience for a show written and produced in Japan in the Japanese language is Japanese people. While it's true that a handful of shows have been saved from the chopping block by western interest, popular shows are not canceled or even threatened by western outcry. Unless another country is an investor in the anime's creation (see Dimension W and for a highly relevant gaming example, the Bungo Stray Dogs and Identity V collaboration) they aren't considered part of the target market and therefore do not influence the show's development.

I think there's a chance they changed it because the Hunting Dogs are the Bad Guys and the green didn't convey that to Japanese audiences
