Day 11 - OC / Yourself in Soul Eater
Behold my oldest Soul Eater OC Iroha.
They were the queen of witches before Maba. Since grigori souls have ridiculous powers, I figured a witch with a grigori soul would be godlike. Especially with all the witches shown having bugs or small creatures. So she was a dove witch.
In OG draft they were just a god of nature/chaos that masqueraded as Eibon. I did notice of the big 3 Kirona fics, all of us headcanoned Kid's mom as a witch. My interpretation was of a perfectionist sacrificing that perfection/divinity to give to a child who would be the next grim reaper. Like a reaper who has a balance of shinigami's order and a witch's chaotic power.
Years later I've reworked the character into transitioning into Eibon. I had had a scene with LD burning any record of Iroha's existence, erasing a dead name seemed a more in character explination why Iroha was never mentioned. Eibon and all his canoness exists, but Iroha existed as well. They are also tied to the moon and the change/growth is a part of the station of being the Allotter.
Having the 3 fates allowed me to have more flexibility with this character. Abandoning the crown in pursuit of knowledge was their madness. The longer they were around Lord Death the more their power and passion spiraled towards death and what happens to people when they die.
The Book of Eibon turned into their research into whether humans, witches, etc are inheriently good or not. And basically is a thesis they were unable to complete before they died.
I have Chrona take over the Allotter role, but continue to turn their back on the witch world.

Finally read Soul Eater vol. 14 three entire months after initially buying it, and I gotta say, it was fine.
I’m enjoying the series for sure, Crona’s story is captivating as always and I’m interested to see where it goes, but man, the pacing seems to get worse and worse as the chapters go on. Like I’ve talked before about how the series skyrocketed way harder in scope size than it probably should’ve, but Jesus.
The series is so cool in concept, basically all the characters are so sick, I love so many of the ideas and plotlines, and the artstyle is one of the best I’ve seen in manga ever (or really in general ever), but I find it just fumbles the execution not enough to ruin it, but just enough to frustrate you.
Outside of the scale/scope thing I talked about before, there are just so many ideas that start out cool as fuck but then eat shit on the landing. Like Soul’s corruption to the imp has been building up more and more since even before the kishin was released, with him using more and more of its powers hinting towards some huge unraveling where everything comes loose and he becomes a big chaotic threat with a big arc about rescuing him. In the end that kinda happened, and his chaos form was pretty cool, except he got over it in like a chapter and everything’s cool now (though I will say his conversation with the imp and whole character struggle is cool)
Honestly now that I mention it, Soul’s a weird character for me, where I think his internal struggle and arc are interesting and I enjoy them, but I just have no thoughts about him as a character outside of that. I just can’t really think of anything about how he acts outside of his own head that really endears me to him, I find him just kinda bland. The majority of his time acting normally around others really doesn’t display much personality I find, which is unfortunate considering how cool his internal arc and piano thing are.
Speaking of characters, god there are a lot of them aren’t there? From what I can tell Atsushi Ohkubo kinda runs into a rare writer issue, being “I have more ideas than I know what to do with”. He just seems to have so many sick character ideas in his head that he can’t help but add to the series, but as he keeps adding them he finds he can’t handle the increasing responsibility of actually using them all well in the story.
Like think of how many characters are at least active by volume 14:
We of course have the main 7 (Maka, Soul, Black☆Star, Tsubaki, Kid, Liz, Patty)
Then another 7 in the rest of the Spartoi (Kiriko, Fire, Thunder, Ox, Harvar, Kim, Jackie),
Then we can add on the 5 (important) DWMA staff members (Death, Spirit, Stein, Sid, Mira)
Then the 6 other Death Scythes (Marie, Azusa, Justin, Tezca, Dengu, Djinn)
And the 5 members of Medusa’s (former) gang (Crona, Ragnarok, Free, Eruka, Mizune family)
And the 4 surviving members of Noah’s gang after that fell apart like wet toilet paper (Noah, Gopher, Index, the Clown)
And the 3 elder gods we know besides Death (Eibon, Asura, that dude in Eibon’s book)
And 7 assorted characters who are (presumably) somewhat important but don’t fit into any other categories (Blair, Imp, Excalibur, Maba, Angela, Akane☆Hoshi, Clay Sizemore, probably more I forgot)
That’s 44 characters in total, and that’s only including the ones who are alive and shown to be at least somewhat involved in the current conflict and/or important in the world as a whole, which seems to me as very clearly being a lot to keep track of in a series as quickly paced as this one
Anyways, this is a lot of words to say Soul Eater’s very good so far, but I really wish it just got to reach the full potential of its ideas more than it ended up being able to

Demons Unleashed ~ Origins of the Ink Demon Gaiden Pt.3 ~
[Salem Town Hall - Salem, MA]
[Central City (Yoru) - Mariko Nanba]
Eruka : Hey guys!
Ashley : Long time no see, Eruka.
Kimial Diehl : Congratulations, Froggy! I heard that you finally completed your Majo Detective Training.
Eruka : I sure did! I'm finally beginning to work in the force! Now that I am a recruited Majo Detective, I will save the innocence and stopping the evil forces and crime itself! No evildoers shall face the almighty Eruka Majo Detective! I am great with skills and far surperior although using frog magic was utterly useless so I decide to get my official spell book and learned traditional types of various magic.
Penny Crygor : Well, good for you! Good for you! Surely that you just wanted to go back as a frog princess in your homeland of Louisiana?
Eruka : Nah! I like it here up north. It's nice and cool to be a great person to visit New England. I mean, this entire state is one heck of a place to live here! I'm sure everything will just be at work! We always gotta love Boston! So I heard about this state being lucky for you to be grew up on.
Kimial Diehl : Actually, I grew up here as a child before I moved to Tokyo and right before I triggered the second event in Tokyo after the Shattering.
Eruka : Eh? The Shattering? The event that took place around 12 years ago? That the was the event when Maka Albarn was a little girl that triggered the power of Shattered Resonance and literally just wiped out 80% of Japan's population. So the Masked boy Makoto Asagiri of the Phantoms of Society, managed to save her life and is also a survivor of the event. Same goes to you, Kimial.
Kimial Diehl : Right, I usually have a real name that I used have from my ancestor, I was part of the Kasugatani Family Tree, even though I thought she was lame and I realize she just died. What's the point of being a witch anyway and become a hero.
Eruka : Hey, woah. Inca Kasugatani may have been a cool ancestor, but she's not that lame and you know it! Just because she died about 1000 years ago, doesn't mean that you could be just careless or--
Maba : Enough! (Bangs Gavel)
Eruka : Sumimasen, Maba-san. I beg your pardon.
Ashely : All do favor.
Kimial Diehl : So, Maba. You're our town's...Huh? City official.
Maba : Indeed. Now then, Eruka and you two have finally got my attention, her training skills as a Majo Detective were highly incredible, I've shown good progress on your training.
Eruka : (Nods) I've did! I worked my way out into being a skilled Majo Detective, I'm finally in the force and ready to do some justice!
Maba : Well, very quaintful. Well, the Family of Kaoru Enma is making some huge changes going around the city. Hopefully, Lynn, Lynn, City of Sin isn't too much about the awareness levels outside of Boston. Well, not necessarily in order. But I do know is that I've reported you to Town Hall to give you this important detail. It's about the humans that created the World of Soul Eater 1000 years have mysteriously returned after the Ohkuboverse's annihilation from the Time Eater.
[Mistery - Seirou Okamoto]
Kimial Diehl : Yeah, it's the same entity that wiped out Shinra and his people before he everyone knew that was gonna resurrect himself through reincarnation.
Maba : Well, technially, It is a commonly known sense that the first witch that gave them life in the Ohkuboverse like us, was executed after Shinra and his beloved's death. Penny Crygor was taking pictures of a mysterious lab where and discovered naked women that acclaims to be the humans of the Ohkuboverse and the witch who gave life to us and as you a part of her family tree.
Kimial Diehl : Me, a part of her family tree? Who is this "her" that is a part of the family tree?
Maba : It's simple, she is the witch gave life to the Majo order during her execution in the Ohkuboverse, everyone thinks that Shinra's man-made son calls us the "sworn enemies" to the DWMA it's because of the Spreading influence that led to the heartless' attention making us as their personal scapegoats.
Kimial Diehl : Wait a sec, so the witches are scapegoats to the heartless? But Shinigami said that our magic has wrecked havoc on the earth.
Maba : False, that's not what his son said. He said that the true enemies to us were the heartless their selves and same goes to the humans that had their hearts swallowed and conjured by the darkness itself. And we would've opened our eyes to the truth when the so-called DWMA trying to make an attempt on destroying the Kasugatani Family Tree, that's what got the Heartless' Attention on destroying the Kusakabe Legacy!
Kimial Diehl : Say what? Why would Shinigami wanted to say that?
[DOOR BANG!]
Fox Witch : Lord Maba! Please excuse us! We got some terrible news coming from Nevada! Estimated over 9000 heartless.
Maba : What 9000? That's Dragon Ball.
Fox Witch : I meant over thousands of Heartless have came from the outskirts.
Maba : What's this excursion from Shinigami?
Fox Witch : We just discovered that the true creator of the Majo Order has returned after being executed in the Ohkuboverse. A criminal mastermind from the Paper Mario universe is gathering the eight vessels that he brought back to life from Shinra's newly world. First Vessel is Amaterasu, the spectral woman and mother of Iblis, second was the mastermind that destroyed Shinra's childhood, Haumea...
Kimial Diehl : And let me guess...the third one is definitely the ancestor of mine, not lame it is. I know why.
Ashley : I can think of one person who were one of the eight vessels that were connected to the Eight Pure hearts. Or should I say that the eight vessels of the eight Pure hearts are Eight Pillars, the keys to opening darkness, the adolla realm was apparently nothing more than nothingness.
[Aniexty - Yasuhiro Inoue]
Ashley : We all just discovered that the so-called "Anoter Era" or Adolla is was made for nothingness. Needless to say, The Ohkuboverse was nothing more than a cursed universe, there was never a god, nor it was evil itself, it was made from deception from Demon Vibe, the reason that authors like him were so arrogant, the crazy story of Soul Eater is all just a baloney. But how did Shinra not know it was Demon Vibe or Sephiroth that was manipulating everything from the very start, and in turned--[to Kimial and Eruka] manipulated you.
Kimial Diehl: What? Me? Manipulated by Demon Vibe?
Eruka : How on earth did you know, smarty pants?
Ashley : Easy. The Time Eater had to kill everyone because it was going to stop Demon Vibe from ever reaching the Door to Darkness, the same door that it's astral creation, the evangelist, was attempting to put the planet in omnicide with the usage of Firaga and darkness itself. Your ancestor, Inca Kasugatani, was used as a puppet for the entity's will, she went insane after she realized that wickedness was not the right answer. However, Shinra and his people didn't show Demon Vibe's true potential after he was banished to the Shadow Realm. So the Time Eater annihilated everyone and then executed Inca Kasugatani in resulting of destroying the Ohkuboverse. That's the real reason Soul World existed within Real World AU.
Kimial Diehl : I see then. Right now, we gotta stop those heartlesses. But if I'm worried about protecting our people, then I will break free from Shinra Kusakabe's will. Reclaim the name Kasugatani and my position. That's why I ran away from Tokyo to join the force.
"Meanwhile in Boston..."
[A Spirit of Bushi - Konami Kukeiha Club]
[people being terorrized and screaming]
*DBZ SFX : LOUD EXPLOSIONS*
Boston Citizen : Help! Help! There's a Monster on the loose!
Fracktail : WHERE ARE THE EIGHT VESSELS OF THE EIGHT PURE HEARTS!? THE VESSELS OF THE EIGHT PURE HEARTS HAD BEEN MISSING SINCE MY LAST CONTACT WITH THE SECOND FORMER PILLAR, THE SECOND WHO TRIED TO DESTROY THE WORLD FROM THE WILL OF DEMON VIBE!
*DBZ SFX : Scouter Scanning+Beeping*
Fracktail : Just as I expected. There are 5 of the eight vessels of the Eight Pure hearts, but only three of them is mississing. Where is the 5th vessel.
Sarissa: That's no monster on the loose! Some idiot awakened a dragon by accident! I'm sorry for my gratitude, but what are you supposed to be just as clever as some dragon from the Paper Mario. You're Fracktail from the Paper Mario Universe, Aren't ya?
Fracktail : Correct, it only took you 10 seconds to figure it out that it was me that is searching for the lost vessels that disappeared since the Ohkuboverse was destroyed. In any case, I will make you try to beat me in a battle test to see if you have what it takes to reclaim the Pure Heart as your own prize! See if you like it for yourself!
"FRACKTAIL : GUARDIAN OF THE PURE HEART"
Sariss : Well, I'm sh*t out of luck! No way point of defeating this guy. Guess it's just my lucky day! (Uses her magic to attack Fracktail's antenna) Yes! Direct hit! This is just too easy! (uses her magic rapidly) Ha! How's this to taste your own data!? Not quite the possible movements about a dragon fighting against a magician that is here to stop troublemakers to search the vessels of the Eight Pure Hearts.
Fracktail : Hmmm...Your skills are quite intriguing, but I seem some minor damage due to your battle experience. You have the will of a warrior that is far superior to the others. I shall get a good reading on your performance of battle techniques. Commencing Data Scanning Operation.
*DBZ SFX : SCOUTER SCANNING+BEEP*
Sarissa : Hmm? What's it doing now? Is it scanning my data just because I am a warrior? What was it going to scan me anyway?
Fracktail : SARISSA, MAGICIAN OF THE WOODS INCIDENT. LEGENDARY HERO IDENTIFIED, NOT SHINRA KUSAKABE. MUST PROTECT PURE HEARTS FROM LAWLESS INTRUDERS! COMMENCING ATTACK MODE OPERATION. *DBZ SFX : ENERGY BALL IMPACT*
Sarissa : Woah! (evades the attack) You're not going to take me down that easily! (uses Thunder magic to attack Fracktail, electrocuting) I hope this will wear you down!
Fracktail : ERROR! ERROR! DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT COMPUTE! SHINRA KUSAKABE, MUST BE DESTROYED! ATTACK! ATTACK!
Sarissa : Did this dragon say "Shinra Kusakabe"? Isn't it that the guy who created...the world that we lived in? What the hell is dragon talking about. He was talking about the Eight vessels of the Eight Pure Hearts.
Fracktail : PREPARE FOR ENEMY ELIMINATION!
*ADOLLA LINK*
Sarissa : Eh? That link! It sounded like nothingness coming from somewhere! But where?
Inca Kasugatani : Leave this one to me. I know how to take this sucker down. Hey, Dragon with an antenna! I'm the one you were looking for! If you know where Shinra Kusakabe, then I suggest that you look at me, the young woman or youth who happens to be the witch that gave birth to Majo in Soul World 1000 years ago.
Sarissa : Huh? Who are you? You look like the one that is similar to Kimial Diehl before, have I seen you before or did I even first meet...you?
Inca Kasugatani : You finally remember my future relative, of course she is the descendant to me that I was the one who started the Majo Order a 1000 years ago. The order was given to protect my family tree from being destroyed by the face of true evil, but after the Time Eater came on that day, everyone was annihilated and I was the only one left that is executed by it. Two mustache men from past and future made an execution about my death sentence for serving the will of Demon Vibe itself. But luckily, I was resurrected by my own soul from Shinra's creation. Giving the perfect body and not to mention the perfect platonic love that I given to the man that died at the hands of the Time Eater along with his beloved Iris.
Sarissa : Say what!?
*DBZ SFX : SCOUTER SCANNING+BEEPING*
Fracktail : INCA KASUGATANI, MOTHER OF WITCHKIND. VESSEL IDENTIFIED! DATA MATCH. RETURNING TO BASE IMMEDIATELY. (flies off)
Sarissa : Hey, It got away!
Inca Kasugatani : Not for long! Hey, Fracky! (Fracktail stops and turns) I know where Shinra Kusakabe is and I have heart that is connected to him.
Fracktail : Wise word, Mother of Witchkind. I will search for the legendary hero that is one of the eight vessels of the Eight Pure hearts. I shall find the one who have resurrected the 1000 years of death in resulting of 50% of the Ohkuboverse. The legenday Hero, Shinra Kusakabe, has finally returned after his demise by the Time Eater. Now that the Eight Vessels of the Eight Pure Hearts are beginning to make a return in the exchange of exisiting to Real World AU, I shall find the rest of the Eight vessels on my search for the eight pure hearts. But first, I shall give this to you what is left from the former of the eight pillars. (gives the orange pure heart to Sarissa) Now...Returning to base. Beginning new search of the missing right vessels. Farewell. (flies away)
[Doom's Eye - Jun Senoue]
Sarissa : Hey, Thanks so much anyway! Oh well, it flew away back to base. Don't know what's gonna happen next if he finds the other eight vessels of the Eight pure hearts. Very impressive for me that he gave this to me in order to find the missing vessels that were the eight sacrifices used to open the Door to Darkness. I wonder what does that even mean? So tell me, Pink-hair lady that kinda looks like Kimial, I'm her caretaker Sarissa and you must be the lady who was executed 1000 years ago from the Time Eater. Inca Kasugatani, the young lady who sold her heart and soul to the darkness. Just why on earth have you came back for so long after Shinra's death. Why are you here anyway? Here in Real World AU?
Inca Kasugatani : You're quite a noble caretaker is that it? I humbled my gratitude that you would believe that I created a line of witches who would easily find about Shinra returning to his ordinary self in the next years. I would guarantee you that I have a platonic love for him, to think that I'm wickedly insane because of me, I was chosen as a puppet by the will of Demon Vibe. It's will used me as a puppet to destroy his world. I just wanted to reunite with him and feel that I would needed to have forgiveness. I wanted to play with him again.
Sarissa : Reunite with Shinra Kusakabe? No way.

Do you think Okhubo having Shinra revive everyone and it being a happy end is a direct response to the non ending of the soul eater manga which left many things uresolved or just returned to the status qou?
Oh, I'm going to be awhile with this...
(*sets out green tea to power me through this long reply...and sets out a swear jar*)
Short answer:
No, I don't think it was a direct response. If anything, it was Ohkubo doing the same kind of ending, in which things are rushed, little is explained, story potential is left unspent because it's the finale and we have no more time, rather than using Fire Force to answer stuff not answered in Soul Eater it raises more questions that are more about how this undermines the mission statement of each series.
And I debate whether we should even call this a "happy ending."
And yet, even as this is a return to a status quo of having these characters still alive, it is an ending that drastically changes their world, their abilities, and their relationships--but as it is the end of the series, that again is left hanging for whatever future story Ohkubo tells or, better yet, what fans end up making for themselves (...including just ignoring Fire Force as a prequel and making better Soul Eater fics explaining this shit).
Long answer:
I didn't think of Shinra reviving everyone and it being a happy ending are a direct response to Soul Eater leaving things unresolved.
(I also don't think of it as a happy ending anyway, but I'll get to that.)
If anything, the ending of Fire Force, with Shinra reviving everyone, seemed like yet another way Ohkubo trolls the fans:
"Oh, you're upset about the lack of answers as to how Lord Death got here, the 800 years between Asura's defeat and now, and the larger societal structure of the Witches? Well, screw that, and screw you, too: I'm going to give you the most unsatisfying origin story for Lord Death, skip the 800 years stuff, and just make up some crap about how witches were created without actually delving into their society! So there! Ha!"
(*groans* Some of us just wanted a spinoff that would address these questions; instead, we got a prequel no one asked for--and I don't mean Soul Eater NOT.)
Also, if anything, Shinra reviving everyone also seemed like a way for Ohkubo to wrap up Fire Force in a way similar to how he wrapped up Soul Eater: deus ex machina to wrap up the story, not let people die.
Spirit, Marie, et al are about to be trapped on the Moon? Eh, just have Maba do a last-minute teleportation. It's not unbelievable, and it at least matches the power set Maba had all along--except, that means she likely could have done that at any point. Hell, Kid was separated from the Moon and had to race back to get there--why didn't Maba teleport him? "Maybe Maba has to recharge each time? I mean, Free wasn't very good at doing the teleportation spell, either." Fine, sure, go with that. "Maybe she can't keep teleporting people when they need to be there to keep fighting the Clowns and Asura?" Okay, fine. At least with Soul Eater, you could come up with excuses.
But Fire Force? Oh, no, it is just straight-up a literal deus ex machina, as if rubbing it into readers' faces that this story that keeps debasing religion as bad storytelling will itself weaponize bad storytelling to just end this series on a dissatisfying note.
Like, I appreciate Ohkubo putting in the setup: Shinra saw Akitaru and Vulcan and Kurono's skull motifs and used that for Lord Death; his understanding of the pre-Cataclysm world is vague so of course things look more cartoony when he tries to remake that world.
But it is also so hamfisted. Why would Shinra be inspired specifically by the skull stuff and not Akitaru's more paternal qualities, and why would he use his tormentor Kurono as a basis? How the hell does Shinra's actions somehow end up to the exact reformation of the world's nations as they were before, 800 years after Shinra dies, and how the hell does that lead to 800 years later Al Capone, JFK, Rasputin, Jack the Ripper, and Lupin all being alive in this world, again, 800 years after Shinra dies?
So, less "a direct response to the non-ending" and more "return to the status quo--because screw you, this is the end, let's wrap this up."
I know I hate on Fire Force--a lot. And it's not like a Doctor Who "everybody lives" ending can't be good. But that ending didn't work for me in Fire Force.
The ending clashed with what I thought was the message this manga was going for. It is not as if the series did not start with a focus on death--but instead of accepting that death is a part of real life, it did a pointless reset.
Like, Shinra brought back everyone, even people who died 250+ years ago (...including some bad dudes which, no, sorry, fuck those people, they can stay dead, Inka can stay fucking dead). But just because they are now treating Death himself as more cute and cuddly (...except they didn't: that is still his Old Death design, so even that didn't work--this is still the same Old Death who is going to end up cursing up a storm at Arachne while hunting her down to slaughter her), they are still going to die.
"But now they won't feel so bad about dying!" Then who fucking cares about resurrecting them? What, so they can die in peace? Are we then implying this is for their own mental health? But they're dead, why would their mental health matter now? Or, is this implying they get to rest in peace, hence have an afterlife? But we just established that God didn't exist until Shinra made Lord Death, so, again, what afterlife? Or, are we suggesting there is a separation between a concept of "God" and an afterlife?
(See why I can't stand Ohkubo's writing? This isn't "the art is beautiful because it leads to more questions that thereby make the writing better"; it's "the writing is vague, there are no answers, whatever answers you get will contradict other messages in the story; this is all a mess, the writer didn't care, the editor didn't care, so I guess you can just enjoy the pretty images and stick to fan works.")
These characters will all die eventually. Hell, even Lord Death died. Why should I care that Shinra brought them back to life just to die again? At least their living again is to let them do something better in this world--except, again, Shinra even resurrected some bad people, and thanks to him saving Inka her bullshit is going to start up again, and there are those fan theories that the White Hoods he resurrected led to Kishin worshippers and Medusa and other baddies, so, again, why bother resurrecting these people except for "Shinra wanted it that way, he is a flawed person like anyone, that's all, move on"?
I understand Fire Force was trying to say something about despair--and instead of facing realities, it said, "Fine, we'll change the laws of physics itself and escape this nonsense." In any other story, maybe that works, if you leaned even more into the idea that this is a work of fiction, the characters know it (as Viktor and Tamaki toyed with in...that abysmal "underage Tamaki is the universal symbol of sex," which, fuck, Ohkubo can fuck off), and so we are showing that art can create realities that show us the world we can have, more than the world we are stuck with.
But that still seems like such a violation of the initial mission statement of Fire Force (protect lives, tend to the survivors and their survivors' guilt) and how it ended ("This was all a Soul Eater prequel, death doesn't matter [unless you're Joe Buttataki, Granny, Lord Death, Justin, Medusa...]"). Maybe I need to accept that I misread the mission statement to Fire Force: after all, it wasn't just "protect lives," it was a message from Akitaru to Shinra that Shinra took to its most extreme (extremist? fundamentalist?) level, that being to not just protect life but to resurrect it...until people die anyway, so... *shrug* they didn't have to die in fires, so that is better to die in a cool and exciting way by some dragon or other beast that Ogun sees before looking back at Shinra and saying, "You really thought this entire frightening world was a better alternative?!"
As for whether the Fire Force ending was a return to a status quo: I mean, not quite?
Sure, everyone who died in the entire series, even in flashbacks, is back--but they aren't the same. That means it's not a return of the status quo: it's the return of these characters, only they are different, as are their interactions with each other (more on Maki and Takehisa, and Shinra, Iris, and Inca, in a moment).
If anything, that is more disappointing, albeit a problem with the endings to a lot of series: untapped potential. Fire Force in that regard did end on a high: we are curious where things go next...sort of. Like, there are great pieces of setup there for the 800+ years between Fire Force and Soul Eater to see how witch society develops, whether people mutated by their resurrection such as Huang lead to new species of people, how on earth this planet goes from looking like the Fire Force world to looking pretty much like our current world (only with Death City now existing).
But then you think, "Wait, we know what comes next: Soul Eater. So who cares?" I know that a lot can happen in 800+ years--but we already know what does happen. And that somehow still doesn't answer those questions I asked earlier, such as what witch society is actually like. We're teased that Inka is a start of that witch society--but that doesn't make sense, one person doesn't start a society, one person is there, then meets other people, then all of those people start a society. Show that story. But, no, _that_ is the status quo: Ohkubo still won't explain shit.
As for the other status quo change: character relationships. Shinra and Arthur are now more respectful of each other...but who cares, that relationship is now done. We hint that Maki and Takehisa are now an item--but who cares, Maki is off shopping with Lisa or something, that's just an empty throwaway line. Good for Maki getting to go shopping, why the fuck aren't we still seeing her honoring her commitments to protect the world along with her colleagues? Okay, fine, Tamaki and Juggernaut get to enjoy a date--but the world is still fucked, how come they lose their powers and don't get to help out?
And of course the inane Shinra / Iris / Inka love triangle bullshit for the sake of a dumb harem gag and the series just making Inka the fucking worst. It's an ending that says things are different--then doesn't answer how. When more readers wasted their time on the last chapter asking whether those two people were Shinra's kids or Arthur's kid or Inka's kid, who gives a fuck?
Maybe the anime will answer that, depending on how they color their hair or re-do the designs or just, I don't know, toss in words in dialogue or on screen identifying who those people are.
But I have zero confidence that will help: this is still a fandom that thinks "X character from Fire Force has a similar design to Y character from Soul Eater--must be related!" These are the same people who still think Kid and Shinra look alike because the story said so--when, no, they fucking don't.
(And yes, I did suggest certain Fire Force characters may have been ancestors to Medusa, Maba, etc--that is more about the thematics coinciding with the visual imagery, not "Ogun and Kilik look alike," which, no, stop that.)

I really be consistent in being late 👁👄👁
But art consistency where? Lets do a lot of styles this year lol 🐱👌

this might be too abstract of a question, but does the whole thing of "the charachters are hundreds of years old" make them less relatable to anyone else?
It probably is my pet peevee lol, but yeah even if I find your idea for Crona to be from victorian times or even before interesting, at the same time it kinda rubs me the wrong way, like its even hard to put to words, I think its the same when you watch LoTR but then learn that Legolas is actually 4000 years old.
(and not even touching the cases of the "she is actually a 1000 year old dragon so its ok-" excuse)
But I guess to try to explain myself, I guess to me people developing from childhood to adulthood in a relative simmilar span of time is kinda fundemental, guess its like trying to relate to a species that doesnt experience love or one which has no concept of leisure on a genetic level.
idk🤷🏿♀️, lol, sorry for wasting your time😂
I'll admit, I'm a bit puzzled by what your question is. It's okay if you don't like it, but I don't think it breaks the established canon or anything.
They are an anime character with another sentient being acting as their blood and people still relate to them. I don't think saying they age the same way their mother and aunt do is that far of a strech to make. (It's a fairly common headcanon)
Witches being 800+ years old is canonical to Soul Eater. As is Shinigami-sama and Kid living for hundreds of years at a time. I kinda assumed witches and shinigami opporate within the same lifetimes with how familiar they are with one another.
The whole point of fantasy races having extended lifespans is to explore what it means to be in a certain stage of development outside of socially established milestones.
In the case of my witch headcanon, it's to explore what it would look like if mental age and development reflected physically. Trauma (and fame) can freeze a person internally at a specific state of developement. There's a lot to world build with that. Like Maba who's lived long enough and actualized enough to be an old woman is greatly reveared because of how her expirences have shaped her.
I'm a big hater of × character is hundreds of years old, grew normally and then froze at appearing the age the author wanted to draw them in. It's lazy and usually has 0 impact on their character. Okubo seems to favor body snatching as an explination for why old as dirt characters appear younger, but it was always in the context of villains. I think canonically he's only ever said Chrona's a teenager. Idk if anyone's ever asked him how witches age. There's a bunch of holes in the lore, and witches society as a whole is one of them.
If your question is about whether it's hard for them to relate to other characters and vice versa if they were actually 400+ years old. They are still a teenager. Maturity wise, socially among others of their kind, they are a minor. Nothing changes from having more historical knowledge, other than not being as pressed about things like wars, but it's not like anyone's empathy evaporated.
As for what that would look like in the long term, I cover it in WDGK. Kid and Chrona are around '19' while their friends are moving on to their 30s. It puts strain and distance on their relationships as time goes on obviously. When they first met the rest of the cast, it was when they all happened to be in the same stage of life. They were able to get along just fine then, but as time goes on, it's harder to relate and more about honoring the time spent on each other. There's an inherient tragedy in that.
I explore it as well with Angela, who fears always needing protection despite having human caretakers. The frustration that comes from not being able to force herself "grow up" fast enough despite knowing Black Star won't be around to protect her forever is a huge part of her arc. She can't just decide to be over watching people die in front of her because it's inconvient for her to be stuck, she needs to heal and healing takes time.
That said, even regular people mature at different rates. Sometimes people grow apart and can only be friends for brief periods of time, when their lives overlap just right. That doesn't make those friendships any less valuable.
I think characters coming to find understanding despite having different life expiriences is one of my favorite parts of storytelling. So the more barriers characters have between each other, the more interesting and satisfying it is for them to relate and form friendships.

The Dark Truth of Soul World? (Fire Force/Soul Eater)
Asura : Why are you three here? Why do you need me for Chaos? Do you three have a death wish or something?
Medusa : What we need is Chaos and we need that precious power of yours!
Asura : And what is your point?
Medusa : So that Crona can absorb you and become a Kishin!
Asura : What?! You want a human brat to absorb me and become a godly maniac with power!? Hell no! I refuse that offer, snakey!
Medusa : Then we'll just have to take it from you!
(Asura struggles to backs off Medusa)
Asura : What are you doing!? Stop it!
Medusa : Give it to me!
Asura : It's my power! Get your own power!
Medusa : We need it for chaos!
Asura : No! F*ck off, b*tch!
Medusa : Let us have it!
Asura : Help! Help! Someone call the police!
Homura's voice : The jig is up, Asura Kusakabe! We found out that Soul Eater's world is created by Shinra Kusakabe himself, otherwise called him the "Devil" himself.
Arachne : What are you magical dorks doing here?
Shaula : And who is this Shinra Kusakabe person you may speak of?
Homura's voice : We have stumbled upon the truth from Maka's Mother and she must've revealed that Shinra created a world without despair, and the madness itself was the remains of the evil entity called the Evangelist!
Shinigami/Death : Oh thank god! Magical girls! Please you gotta help us! These three witches were trying to resurrect the Kishin and plans on using him to destroy the planet!
Homura's voice : Sorry I hate to break it to ya, but that Kishin you said, isn't a Kishin at all. In fact that Asura is no demon god, he's a Kusakabe like his Grandfather, and you are his father.
Asura : What the f*ck are you talking about?
Homura's Voice : You two are father and son of the Kusakabe Family and the madness you brought was an influence to this world that Shinra created! It turns out that Soul Eater is actually a sequel to Fire Force, the modern manga where Soul World truly all began and it's all because of your father Shinra Kusakabe!
Mami's voice : Yeah! Madoka was telling the truth!
Asura : (scoffs) You idiots are crazy! I never heard of this Shinra Kusakabe person to think that he created this world and I'm his Grandson. What kind of theory to think that this Soul Eater manga is actually a sequel to what force? Why do you think that Madness is actually the remains of an Evil entity that was his auntie?
Iris's voice : Listen to him, it's true! Shinra created this world and Godoka told him that he found hope to prevent his world fallen from despair!
Truth from FMA (voice heard) : Truth hurts doesn't it, Death? Both you and that demon God Asura are both father and son of the Kusakabe. And you brought the madness as an influence for bringing an outcome to the new world your father created.
Shinigami : [To Iris] M-Mother, what are you doing here in Soul World? And why did you bring "Truth" from the world of FMA? Why are you people are here to tell me for bringing a mess we caused?!
(Everyone gasped in shocked)
Shaula : Truth is here?
Arachne : Shinra Kusakabe created this world?
Medsua : I can't believe this. How can we the Gorgon Witch trio let "Truth" to believe ourselves that Shinigami and Asura were father and son? And Shinra Kusakabe is the one that that truly created this world?!
Arachne : We wasted our lives as witches after we are birthed and this Shinra Kusakabe person created a world like this? Now I'm letting "Truth" to believe me that there's no such thing is a Kishin?
Shaula : And people saying we're bat-shit crazy for Gods that aren't demons! Because Witches in wicca only worship devils that are demon kings! First we betrayed Maba, then getting the witches involved of being the enemies to "his" son! Now this?!
Medusa : You know what? (Chuckles and then laughs manically) Who cares?! Who cares anymore?! This world of Soul Eater is nothing but lies! But the Truth have already won! We Gorgon sisters are actually his son's stalkers! And truth told us that it was a lie! All because of that "Devil" who is basically your father that created this world! You, a real son of the Devil himself! (Laughs manically) If we the Gorgons Sisters can't trust a family of devils like you, nobody will! Nobody can! [To Maka and Tsugumi] And you, Maka! This is all your mother's fault for learning about his legacy and always be the hero protecting the Devil's legacy! I gave my trust between hero and Villain, and now you wanted us to expose the truth by truth from the world of FMA?
Shaula : Well fine! Were done being heroes and villains to each other and you kiss the Devil's ass goodbye to this stupid devilsh world that he created with his feet! So screw you all...you big pieces of crap! [To Godoka] Hey! Godoka! Magical girl goddess! Finish us! Finish us so that we may never been born into this sh*tty world of ours!
Godoka's voice : As you wish, witches. I will begin my attack to vanquish all you three from existence!
Maka : No! Medusa! What are you doing?! You can't let a goddess to wipe us all out! It's Murder!
Medusa : After all years, we've wasted our lives as witches and we just wanted to understand the world's chaos! Crona! I know you're there! There's nothing to get out of that despair! We can't start over like this! The four of us in our bloodline! We swaer it! The need for Chaos and destruction is mine, you hear me?
Maka : MEDUSA! NOOOOOO!!!
(Godoka's attacks appears from the sky and is about to hit at both the school and Death City, directly)
Medusa : (About to be Killed)THE STRONG NEED FOR CHAOS IS MI-I-I-IIIINE!!!
*DBZ SFX : LARGE EXPLOSION*
Patrick : Everyone died! The end.

Do you have any headcanons on the mizune sisters?
Ah, the Mizune sisters! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Soul Eater, but I still think those little mousy witches are cool af. They never got much screentime, unfortunately, so this is a little challenging, but here are a handful of headcanons for them:
The Mizune sisters are pretty much notorious for their synchronicity, so I like to think that they have some kind of mind-link telepathy or sixth sense thing going on between the lot of them; it isn’t too far-fetched, because they are witches.
In an extension of that, I like to think that the other five Mizune siblings actually felt when their eldest sibling was murdered- although they didn’t know how or that it was at Medusa’s hands, they just knew. It was very saddening and distressing for the lot of them.
They only learned the truth of their sister’s death after the final events of the series, when Death the Kid allied himself with the witches. They were very remorseful about it, and so I like to think that the witch Maba forgave them for their transgressions.
The witch sisters all live together in a solitary cabin, much like Blair did before Soul and Maka happened upon her, in a tranquil forest in the human realm (they are not really friendly even with other witches, preferring the company of themselves instead). There, they tend to their own little vegetable garden and relax by a cute little pond and are all in all a rather adorable image.
The Mizune sisters all love cheese, though they all have their personal preferences to what kind. It’s a sore spot when someone makes fun about it due to their mouse-like appearances, though. One may find themselves on the receiving end of Beam Whiskers.
The Mizune sisters only real friend is Eruka Frog; she comes to visit them to have tea from time to time. They don’t blame Eruka for what happened to their sister; they sort of bonded over how they were both manipulated by Medusa.
That’s all I can really think off of the top of my head, and I hope theyre sufficient! Thanks for the interesting ask!
