Updated: Kishite-Shabalic Script and a bit of the Kishic Language: Basics including an expanded list of nouns and verbs
I made this before but looking through it again I missed some things and made some mistakes, and so here is an updated version of this for y'all! As with the Kishite spoken language, the Kishic script descends from and is largely identical to the Shabalic script, thus the term Kishite-Shabalic. Kishite-Syllabic is one of three scripts used in Kishetal along with Kishic hieroglyphs (reserved for religious/cultic purposes) and the logographic Shetalic script, which has fallen almost entirely out of favour.
The Kishite-Shabalic script is syllabic, thus each symbol is representative of one syllable composed of a consonant and a vowel. In addition there are characters which serve as punctuation used to symbolize the conclusion of a thought, in similar fashion to the Latin "." and "?", and the presence of a proper noun or divine status. Though it should be noted that these are not always actually used.
Unlike the Shetalic script which is traditional formed using styluses pressed into clay, Kishite-Shabalic is typical written either through carving or the use of charcoal/ink.
Shetalic is shown below on the left with Kishite-Shabalic on the right, both say the same thing.
Keep reading for more linguistic babbling!
Vowels
As a general rule when transcribing the Kishite script, when two of the same vowel are put next to one another, they are treated as a single vowel, rather than elongated as we might see in English with words like book or meet or feat. Two different vowels, such as O and E, E and A, and so on, are almost never put directly beside each other. In the rare instances when this does occur the "stronger" of the two vowels will cover the other. The order of strength from least to greatest is as follows:
i-e-a-o-u
The vowels of the Kishite language are pronounced phonetically
Thus:
I as in sweet or pin
E as in egg
A as in palm
O as in coat
U as in tool
e.g. the substantive adjective "the Mighty" Urjali- + -ul (substantive ending) Urjaliul Urjaliul Urjalul (OOr-Jahl-OOl)
Special Note: One important differentiation between the Shabalic language and the Kishite language is that the Kishite language allows for the placing of multiple consonants in sequence. Take for example the Kishic name Ninma, in its original Shabalic form it would be Ninama (NI-NA-MA). Because of the fact that Kishite does have this trait, it has developed its own unique form of punctuation, the vowel drop. When placed below one of the syllabograms shown above, it cancels out the vowel, in essence rendering it mute. Ninma could alternatively be spelled using the formulation NI-IN-MA, similar to how Narul was spelled above, this is largely a matter of personal preference. The more traditional (Shabalic) form is often times considered more in keeping with nobility.
Sentence Structure
The Kishic language primarily follows a subject-object-verb structure.
Naru(u)l Nina(a)ma kimagiga(a)s Narul Ninma kimagigas. Narul Ninma carried. Narul carried Ninma.
Tamel kim(u)unur fabiguta(a)s Tamel kimunur fabigutas Tamel gates broke. Tamel broke gates.
Otilya (there is no -ia symbol in Kishite) Korithub luku ga. Otilya Korithub luku ga Otilia Korithia from is. Otilia is from Korithia
Enni Wi tuba chi Jahubur horu jawishaga The wind down the Mountain hard blows. The wind blows hard down the mountain.
Noun and Adjective Declensions
The Kishic language system consists of the following cases: nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, and possessive (the Shabalic language includes an instrumental case), and distinguishes between two numbers (singular and plural) and four genders, Masc/Neutral (undefined groups or individuals), Feminine, Inanimate, and Divine.
Divine beings such as gods and certain spirits as well as the Sun, Mountains, Rivers, and the Sea are always referred to in the Divine gender. Some monsters also fall under this category. (Water Bi (Inanimate), Lake Bi (Divine))
Objects which are not and have never been alive are rendered in the Inanimate gender. This can get confusing in some instances, for example while the word corpse Nahoku would utilize the masc/neutral form, the word bone, hashudi, would utilize the inanimate. Another example of this is the word Oli which can mean either blood or wine based on whether it utilizes masc/neut or inanimate declensions.
Not all inanimate objects are rendered into the inanimate. Words like spear shukala use the masc/neutral. This group typically consists of weapons and tools. The stem used will depend on the root word.
Plants as a rule are always rendered into the feminine.
Cities and countries are neutral.
Royal Titles have a specific declension.
A few examples of declension are given in the tables below.
Sample Verbs
Verb stems always end with -i. The exception to this is the verb to be, which rather takes the form of the conjugation, thus the first person singular indicative present sample or "am" would be wa.
Talk: Akki
Breathe: Ki
Eat: Ushki
Struggle: Nari
Sleep: Eshsi
Fight: Orishri
Hunt: Pabakazi (Literally Bow art(ing))
Dance: Irteti
Kiss: Mishuzi
Copulate (and the more vulgar equivalent): Seshiti/Tu(u)ki
More verbs will be provided below.
Verbal Conjugation
There are two conjugation groups within Kishite verbs, the ha/za/hi-conjugation and the wa/ya/wi-conjugation. Which conjugation is used is dependent on the verb in question, typically words with a Shabalic root use the wa -conjugation while words derived from native languages more often use the ha -conjugation.
Within the Kishite language there are two voices (active and medio-passive), three moods (indicative, subjunctive, and imperative), three aspects (perfective, imperfective/continuous, and simple), and three tenses (Past, Present, and Future)
The present tense can be identified by -i/-a/-u/-o, past by -as/-os/-us, and future by -ad/-id.
Indicative: Used for Stating facts and thus the mood of reality.
Active: The Subject is the agent of the verb.
Mediopassive: The agent acts as a reflexive agent of the verb (acting upon itself) OR the subject is the target of the verb.
Present Simple Active: Narul is hungry Past Simple Active: Narul was hungry Future Simple Active: Ninma will not be hungry Present Simple Mediopassive: Narul is accompanied by Ninma/ Narul cleans (himself). Past Simple Mediopassive: Narul was accompanied by Suru Future Simple Mediopassive: Narul will be accompanied by Mikrab Present Perfect Active: Narul has slept Past Perfect Active: Narul had slept Future Perfect Active: Narul will have slept. Present Perfect Mediopassive: Bop has been carried Past Perfect Mediopassive: Bop had been carried Future Perfect Mediopassive: Bop will have been carried Present Imperfective/Continuous Active: Narul is walking Past Continuous Active: The Deep Sun used to speak Future Continuous Active: Zatar will be fighting Present Continuous Mediopassive: Bop is being carried Past Continuous Mediopassive: Bop was being carried Future Continuous Mediopassive: Bop will be being carried
Subjunctive: Used for stating "unfacts", wishes and prayers, possibilities (may or might), hypotheticals, and opinions/judgements.
There is no Future conjugation for the Subjunctive, rather future events are expressed in the present through the use of may or might.
Additionally the Subjunctive is used for the following:
Jussive: used for suggestions and negative commands: What "should" or "should not" happen used only in the first person," we should leave/we should not leave" esh = should, na(e)sh = should not
Indefinite clauses: (if/until/whenever/whoever/however) ek = if, ekib = until, kowa(a)b =whoever, bowa(a)b = whenever, lowa(a)b = wherever, mowa(a)b = however
Purpose Clauses: "So that/ in order that" am = so that/in order that
Doubtful Assertions: "May not/Might not" er = may/maybe, na(e)r = may not, eb = might, nab = might not
Certain Future Assertions: "There certainly will..." erna = certainly (literally without maybe), na(e)rna = certainly not
Present Simple Active: We should run/ Narul wishes for rain Past Simple Active: Narul wished for rain Present Simple Mediopassive: If Ninma is stopped Past Simple Mediopassive: If Ninma was stopped Present Perfect Active: Narul has wished for rain Past Perfect Active: Narul had wished for rain Present Perfect Mediopassive: If Bop has been carried Past Perfect Mediopassive: If Bop had been carried Present Imperfective/Continuous Active: Narul is wishing for rain Past Continuous Active: Narul used to wish for rain Present Continuous Mediopassive: If Bop is being carried Past Continuous Mediopassive: If Bop was being carried
Imperative: Used for orders or commands/strong requests
Imperative is only conjugated in the second and third person singular or plural. Imperative is only used in the present and future, not for the past. Orders in the past are expressed as indicative. There are only Perfect and Imperfect Imperatives.
In the mediopassive form the imperative is translated as "Let them/you" for the first person of this the subjunctive is used "I/We should"
Present Perfect Active: Stop Future Perfect Active: You will stop Present Perfect Mediopassive: Let it stop Future Perfect Mediopassive: Let it be stopped. Present Imperfective/Continuous Active: Always stop Future Continuous Active: You will always stop Present Continuous Mediopassive: Let it be stopped (continuously) Future Continuous Mediopassive: Let it be stopped (continuously)
Additionally, the verbal system displays infinitives and participles in the present and past tenses.
Prounouns
There are four genders of pronouns; Masculine, Feminine, Neutral, and Divine. Objects with the Inanimate designation are given neutral pronouns. Only deities receive divine pronouns, other entities and places in the divine categorization will typically receive feminine pronouns, with the exception of celestial bodies which always receive masculine pronouns.
It is considered improper to address both royalty and deities with pronouns, as such there are no specific first or second person pronouns for the Divine category.
Articles
As with pronouns there is no "inanimate" article group, rather inanimate subjects are given masc/neut articles.

Rewrite tag
Thanks @mk-writes-stuff here and @somethingclevermahogony here!
MK's line: [+ provided picrew]
“Lord Narcissus,” she said with a curtsy as she got close to him. “You’re looking lovely tonight.”
It wasn’t even a lie. He did look lovely. He had an elaborate red flowery hairpiece made out of real flowers, and he was wearing a tight red cocktail dress that, while definitely scandalous, did admittedly draw attention to his figure. Narcissus was a good-looking man – it was a shame that was his only virtue.
My rewrite:
She curtsied as she got close to him, taking the time to think of something to say. "Lord Narcissus," she said, "you look lovely tonight."
What irritated her was that she wasn't lying: he did look lovely. His dark hair was a stark contrast to the red flowery headpiece--which she was certain was real--that accentuated his eyes. His wavy hair framed his face well, and the choker emphasized his long neck. The scandalously tight cocktail dress matched the headpiece, and the fact that it did well for his figure irritated her to no end. It was a shame his looks were his only good virtue--the loveliness of his appearance couldn't help but be tainted by his repulsive personality.
C's line:
The blood dripped into the awaiting bowl and painted its alabaster walls crimson. Narul watched it trickled down his arm, skirting past the hairs, rolling veins, and moles. Despite these twenty years of blood lettings, he could not shake a creeping feeling of unease as his eyes followed its creeping path down his arm. He gazed back at himself from the scarlet pool, he could not meet his own eye, could not stand to look that creature in the face. He turned away.
My rewrite:
Narul watched as the blood dripped into the alabaster bowl. With each drop, the sides became more and more stained with the sickening yet almost satisfyingly familiar crimson. The blood slowly fell down his arms like rain against glass, past his hairs, moles, veins. Twenty years of bloodlettings could not quench his repulsion, but still he could not look away from it. His eyes followed each drop's path, until he accidentally caught his reflection in the carmine pool growing in the bowl. He looked away as quickly as he could, more disgusted at the creature in his face than the blood.
My line: (shaking it up and doing it from SOTL!!!)
Jack scrutinized the castle before him. It stretched up, up, up into the sky--and as they were already in the clouds, Jack didn’t want to know how high the tallest tower was above the ground--how he wouldn’t like to be the poor bloke who was defenestrated from it. The castle was made of some sort of dark stone, giving it the unsettling feel of a haunted house. There was the cobblestone path, yes, but on either side of it, Jack realized that yes, they were still on clouds, though where the castle was, the clouds were dark and gray, and when Jack listened closely enough, he realized that there was a booming irregular pulse of thunder that shook the ground ever-so-slightly, enough to cause the stone beneath his shoes to rattle.

OC interaction tag
Shoutout @somethingclevermahogony for the tag
SCM's OC: Bop is a wind spirit of indeterminate age, at least 2,000 years. They don't actually remember how old they are. Bop is not a name which they gave themselves, but rather it is the name which has been given to them by Narul, a reference to their current living situation. It is not at all certain that Bop ever had an actual name before they were given one by Narul, certainly most spirits do not give themselves names. Bop is trapped inside of an Arkodian Bronze hammer, placed there by an unknown sage or group of sages centuries before the beginning of the story. It is unclear if they can be freed and what would happen if they were. They are blinded and deafened to the outside world unless the hammer which they are trapped within is held by a person. This allows them to access the mind of the wielder, to speak with them and to see and hear through them. Touching the hammer also allows the wielder to have access to some of Bop's magic, including the ability to heal minor injuries and an increase in strength. A person must be touching the hammer in order to communicate with Bop and to feel the effects of their magic.
They have become close friends with the current wielder of the hammer, Narul. Bop is a deeply caring individual, though centuries spent in the darkness of the deep sun's cave, their inhuman nature, and a reliance on the eyes of their wielder sometimes mean that the spirit can be somewhat naive and tactless. Their sense of humor is somewhat childish and they take particular delight in puns. When seen in the mind’s eye, Bop typically takes the form of an amorphous misty shape, an ever-shifting humanoid silhouette. So too does their voice shift, changing drastically in tone, depth, and speed over the course a conversation. Bop is defined by a lack of staticness, a constant nature of change.
My OC: Sorrel epitomizes what it means to be a fox of the forest. Inquisitive and adventurous, she loves going out and spending days away from the village. Free-spirited, she is not afraid of letting her opinion be known, and can be quite willful and stubborn at times. But she also has a softer side, and she is fiercely loyal and compassionate to those that earn her friendship.
How they'd interact: This may be the most unusual interaction Bop has had…or maybe not. They have met many different individuals and maybe nothing surprises them anymore. Of course, Sorrel will be curious about Bop. What would take getting use to would be communicating with a being with no physical form, and can only interact through the mind. Sorrel would be surprised at first and drop Bop’s hammer. But I’m sure that she would figure things out, even if she doesn’t fully get what’s going on. The stories they would share would certainly something to behold. What would put a damper on things would be the sickness Sorrel had acquired (and would eventually succumb to) in between the prologue and the main story. Once they find out, Bop would immediately become worried and ask if there was anything they could do. Sorrel would reply that the sickness is incurable. As their hammer is very old, Bop would have witnessed the deaths of quite a few individuals they have gotten close to, and each one probably would have saddened them greatly. Sorrel would do her best to remain cheerful and enjoy what time she has left. Bop would tell Sorrel to hold the hammer close, for while their magic would not cure her, it would at least make the pain more bearable.

OC Interaction Game
Rules: describe an OC, then describe how they would interact with the OC(s) of the people who tagged you
Thanks @somethingclevermahogony and @illarian-rambling for the tags! I love this game
C’s OC: (As of the start of Book 1) Narul is a 23 year-old slave at the Palace of Labisa, the Great City by the Lake. He is a forestfolk, a person or group of people who have been mutated or altered by the effects of wild or ambient magic. His birth mother was a priestess, his father is a mystery. He was adopted by an enslaved woman as an infant, thus how he ended up in the servitude of King Hutbari. He is a giant of a man, literally, at just a hair under nine feet tall. He is additionally quite bulky, much much larger than even the biggest human. He is so large that the door into the slave quarters had to be reconstructed just to fit him as he grew up. Aside from his size he is also just a bit rough in appearance, hairy and broad, picture a DnD Dwarf, just sized way up.
He is inhumanly strong, a fact that causes him a great deal of distress. Because of his size and strength, Narul has the potential to be quite dangerous to normal humans, as he has been repeatedly reminded of since his childhood. Narul has a great deal of anxiety around his body and his potential to accidently hurt others, as such he is quite timid and careful. He has a tendency to mumble when he talks, which unfortunately due to his low voice, often makes it sound like he is growling. He is a gentle person, he likes flowers and abhors violence. He cries relatively easily and gets easily anxious or overwhelmed.Despite all of this he is fiercely loyal and kind. He doesn’t talk much but loves to listen to others.
His fatal flaw is a healthy dose of self-doubt and self-loathing. Narul hates his body, it scares him, and he believes that it scares others. He is often self-deprecating, though not in a joking way. He feels an intense jealousy towards those around him that are able to live normal lives and pursue normal relationships.
Katie’s OC: Elsind is a 20 year old changeling whose true form looks like a mannequin wrapped in raw meat with five fins ringing its face, and who can transition between a solid and liquid state. They change their disguise frequently (they can only do people, not animals) and use the pronouns of whatever face they're wearing. As a person, Elsind is anxious, easily flustered, cries a lot, and is overall very kind-hearted, despite working as an assassin for a rebel cell. She ended up in that line of work because she wants revenge for what the nobility of her home put her through - kidnapping her at thirteen to serve as a court freak. He thinks if he can assassinate his target, he can earn his courage back and be more than another discarded toy of the ruling class, even if the idea of killing someone makes him sick. Indeed, classism is where Elsind gets very passionate, as well as talking about romance novels. They long for love, even if they think no one would accept a changeling without a disguise. I would also say she's chronically unlucky. If anyone is going to slip in the mud in his nice new dress, it's Elsind. All I have written down on their character notes is "eager to please, easily overwhelmed, great combo of traits," which is pretty much Elsind's deal.
My OC (created by my lovely gf): Nellie is a clone in her mid-twenties, although she’s only been out of the vat for about six months. She’s reasonably tall and pretty skinny, with pale skin, short black hair, and narrow red-and-gold eyes, which she usually hides behind sunglasses. Nellie is a sweet, kind, and empathetic woman who cares very deeply for others and wants to help, to the point where she sometimes struggles to put herself first. She also has a deeply traumatic history of abuse by her genetic donor that still troubles her deeply and gives her struggles with intimacy, as well as an addiction to mindsplit that she’s trying to shake. She longs for a simple, happy life - a good job, a nice place to live, good food, and the chance to live as her true self (Nellie is a trans woman) is all she’s really looking for (and maybe a partner one day if the opportunity arises - she’s met a friend who’s cute but he’s also a clone of Belladonna’s dad so she’s a bit uncertain). Nellie also has empathic magic, although she hasn’t trained it much, which she mostly uses to see how others are feeling and help them where she can.
How Nellie and Narul would interact: I think at first Nellie would be a bit intimidated by him because he’s huge. But with her empathy magic, I think she’d quickly realize he was actually a very sweet, anxious man, and she’d no longer find him scary. She’d be happy to talk to him (I think she might kind of hope the creeps would steer clear of her if she spent time with him, but regardless she’d be happy to just because he seems nice) and would be fine talking if he wanted to listen, although I think she’d feel like she was running out of things to talk about because she’s still figuring herself and her life out. If he ever opened up to her, she’d understand the feeling of being different very well - she’s only just recently been able to start living a normal life now that she’s out from under Narcissus’s thumb.
How Nellie and Elsind would interact: I think they’d get along great! They’re both very kindhearted people with awful pasts due to their natures (Elsind being a shapechanger and Nellie being a clone). Nellie doesn’t want Narcissus dead particularly, and would certainly never want to kill him, but she wouldn’t blame Elsind for wanting their abuser dead. They both have similar view on the world (classism bad and nobility kind of sucks), and Nellie would love to hear all about Elsind’s romance novels - she’s just starting to read herself, so she might ask Elsind if he has any suggestions. She would be happy to befriend Elsind despite her being a shapeshifter, so I think they’d both benefit from this friendship, since both of them could definitely use a friend.
This was a fun one! I hope y’all like the answers, lmk what you think :)

Rewrite Tag
A couple of rewrites from other writers here! If you do not wish your work or yourself to be included and/or linked in this list, please inform me and I will take that part down.
There's five rewritten snippets here, so please look under the cut for the rest of the rewrites, as well as a new line for rewriting from myself!
OG by @finickyfelix:
Shylar and Knoron hesitated for a moment, before she offered her arm, smiling up at him. His hands shook, but he took her arm, and they followed the others.
Mine:
Time stilled. One. Two. Three. Then Shylar offered him a smile and an arm. With shaky hands, Knoron forced himself to be polite and go along with the others - as things should be.
*Despite going through OP's blog, I wasn't able to identify which pronouns refer to which characters! These placeholders are supposed to be for the characters' names. EDIT: OP provided clarifications for the names. Thanks!
OG line by @melpomene-grey:
As her hand closed around the hilt of the sword, a vast, humming energy filled the room, and one by one, the gas lamps that lined the walls went out, blinking away like eyelids on a many-eyed machine. The doors behind her slammed shut, and she realised with a sinking feeling what had happened. They were trapped.
Mine:
Eyes cast on the prize, the woman swung her hand to grab the sword. She had merely touched its ornate hilt when a pulsating energy shook the room. Lamps burst. Darkness filled her vision. Pressure crushed her body. Sweat ran down her skin. Trapped. She were trapped! They were all trapped!
OG by @kaylinalexanderbooks
I ran out of the house and didn’t stop until I reached the edge of the forest, at which point I collapsed. I looked up, staring into the dark abyss of the woods in front of me. I dropped my gaze to the ground. The stupid grass was greener than I’d ever seen. I closed my eyes and sobbed for a moment. Not this again. Not again. Not again.
Mine:
I ran out the door. And ran. And ran. And ran. My legs soon gave out. I gasped for air. My blurry vision caught sight of green. The forest?! This has to be fake. I scanned left and right, but found nothing else but thick foliage and dark wood. No! Not again! My eyes prickled. I choked on tears. I need air. I can't do this again!
OG by @somethingclevermahogony (has some mention of gore):
The farmer wailed at the sight of his livelihood reduced to a tangled pile of broken timber and flesh. Narul had little time to catch his breath, Mikrab was back on his feet, his back dripped with the blood of the swine.
Mine (also still has mentions of gore):
Narul had barely gotten air into his system and Mikrab had only just managed to get his wobbly legs stable on the ground when they made eye contact with the farmer. A guttural screech echoed through the land. The scattered lumber, lumps of flesh, and splashes of blood meant a gruesome cleanup for everyone involved, but the farmer's well-meaning companions agreed - with fatigued grimaces - that this was all the fault of the man's highly priced and aggressive boar stud in the first place.
OG by @illarian-rambling:
He traced one of the images with a finger; two gods debated furiously on twin mountain peaks. A mature woman with ears of gold, a winged lizard coiled around her feet, and a young girl holding a copper-furred hound by the scruff. Their faces were so similar, like a mother and daughter.
Mine:
A certain portrait caught his eye - a depiction of two gods, from within their own mountains. With an amused smile, his finger trailed around the gods' strikingly alike faces. On one side proudly stood a woman with a golden headdress and a winged lizard by her feet; on the other a young girl held a defiant gaze in her eyes and a red hound by her hands. A very typical mother and daughter pair, it seemed.
Here's a new line from me that you can try rewriting. This is an open tag, so anyone can try!
They're bag-weights. They don't help us hunt. They don't help us cook. They don't help us set up for the night, pay for the inns, or even try to help the folks we've been doing little errands for along the way. And yet we feed them, we tuck them into bed, we protect them in battle. Any day now, we'll die to an ambush because we're busy babying these two.
#rewrite tag#tag game#satoh writes#gore#that line is directly lifted from an av2 wip#edited to add warnings for the part with some gore and the character's names

My rewrite: The drip-drop of his flowing blood painted the sides of the alabaster bowl a dark crimson. Narul watched the red rivulet roll down his arm, past moles and hair and old scars. It left him with a creeping sense of unease, watching it leak out of him. It always had, even after twenty years of doing this. In the reflection of the bowl, he saw himself painted in bloody colors - a rough-hewn creature made from gore. Narul looked away.
Your line: From the doorway came a sound between a whimper and a sob. Sepo turned to see Twenari with her hand outstretched. White sparks clung to her fingers like a grotesque parody of shimmering makeup stolen from a parent’s vanity. Abruptly, her shaking knees gave out. The girl sank to the floor, hugging herself pitifully. With utterly dry eyes, she stared at the charred corpse, unblinking and expressionless.

An Introduction to Myself and My WIP!
Hello everyone! A confession, this is actually a re-introduction. I've been here on Tumblr for a little less than a year now, but I haven't been the best about being active, life just sort of got in the way. As such I would like to reintroduce myself and what I've been working on.
For the purposes of Tumblr and in the interest of privacy you can call me C. I am in my mid-twenties, I use he/him pronouns, and I am happily married to my partner, who is also a C. I am queer, as is my partner. I enjoy cooking, fishing, Dnd(ing?), reading, and of course writing.
We both originally come from the US but we are currently living on the east coast of Scotland as I pursue my Msc in Archaeology.
I am trying to be a bit more active on here and I am always open to things like tags and asks, even if it takes me a bit to respond.
I think that's about it for me, and so without further ado let me introduce or reintroduce you to my WIP.
Testaments of the Green Sea
Genre: Epic Fantasy
Themes and Tropes (Or more accurately a random assortment of words vaguely related to the plot): Found Family, immortality, loss, love, war, power, memory, magic, insanity, The passage of time, growing up, queerness in the ancient world, violence, spirits, fantasy outside of medieval europe
Summary: Book one of the Testaments of the Green Sea (The lands of the Green Sea are pictured above) follows the journeys of the giant slave Narul and the princess Ninma. After unexpected tragedy forces the two to flee from the Great city of Labisa, they find themselves on a journey which carries them across the ancient lands of Kishetal. Along the way they encounter spirits, demons, war, gods, pirates, and slavers. TW for death/grief, violence/blood/gore, mental illness, physical illness, abuse, and cannibalism, awkward queerness, secondhand embarrasment etc, etc.
Excerpt( First Paragraph of Chapter 1): The blood dripped into the awaiting bowl, painting its alabaster walls crimson. The slave watched the dark liquid trickle down his arm, skirting past the hairs, rolling veins, and moles. Even after these twenty years of weekly blood lettings, he could not shake a creeping feeling of unease as his eyes followed the sanguine river creeping its way across his arm. His own face gazed back at him from the scarlet pool. He could not meet his own eye, could not stand to look that creature. He turned away.
Draft Status: The second draft of the manuscript is currently being edited, I will be looking for my first round of Beta Readers likely before the end of the year.
This is just part one of a much larger series. My partner is currently working on the beginnings of their own series, set in the same world but 3,000 years in the future, roughly aligning with our own Great War Period. I'm so excited to share more with you, and I love answering questions!

Trying to create a prayer to the raven queen for the players to discover. Trying to strike a balance between being nice and poetic and not adding too much that needs backstory explaining.
Like calling her “the matron of fates, bane of Narull, lady of memories” is nice but won’t mean much to my players who don’t listen to d&d lore videos as they go about their housework.

OC interaction
Thanks to @somethingclevermahogony here and here, @illarian-rambling here, and @mk-writes-stuff here!
Rules: describe an OC, then describe how they would interact with the OC of the person who tagged you!
Under the cut, it got long:
C's OC #1
Narul is a 23 year-old slave at the Palace of Labisa, the Great City by the Lake. He is so massive that the door into the slave quarters had to be reconstructed just to fit him as he grew up.
C's OC #2
Mikrab is a spiritblood, half-human and half-spirit, a demigod. Mikrab is just over 1450 years old, his body is functionally immortal, though his mind is not. Time and loss has made him apathetic, and his memory has faded with the ages. He does not remember where he comes from, nor his family, he doesn't even remember his birth name, Mikrab is the Knoshic version of his original name (Like Juan vs. John), and his culture and language of origin have since gone extinct. While he does not relish in violence or destruction, he simply does not care if he causes it. He will kill and destroy for the sake of convenience. He wanders the world, not seeking death but also not avoiding it. He is lethargic and cold, save for moments of frustration, often with his predicament. As with all spiritbloods he is massive, though among spiritbloods he is on the short side, only about 7'8, and is a bit more lean in his build compared to the likes of Narul or Batricca. His supernatural strength and durability are what have allowed him to survive so long. Surprisingly, he is quite a skilled linguist and can speak in Kishite, Knoshic, Apunian, Korithian, Arkodian, Ikopeshi, and Namuti.
Katie's OC
Djek Kagura is a young man (19 in the first book, 23 in the second two) with a shifty appearance, red eyes, and a constant squint due to poor vision. He grew up on the streets after his parents tossed him out to cut down on mouths to feed, only to later join the brutal Tunnel Wasp smuggling gang, which he later split from due to his aversion to violence and need to do what's right. As a person, he's always quick with a joke or snide comment, loves sarcasm, and lies like a fish breathes water. His bad habit is that he loves to annoy people on purpose. At his core is a deep sense of self-loathing and abandonment issues, but he covers these with humor. He tends to try to find peaceful solutions to situations and has a bit of a bleeding heart, even if he pretends to be tough. His friends mean the world to him and he's loyal to the point getting himself hurt in fights he can't win. Also, he's surprisingly in touch with people's emotions and always trys to make them feel better, even he does it with a bad joke or by irritating them to action. He has a weak form of sorcery, specializes in shadow magic, and has incorrigibly sticky fingers.
MK's OC
My OC
Ash Hathaway is a thirteen year old (at the start of Pt1) girl with telepathic powers. She's ambitious to the point of self-destruction, where she wants to try new things just to see where her limits are. Part of it has to do with wanting to prove herself - that she can do it. If someone says she can't do something, she's likely going to go out of her way to do it. She lives in the moment with only some hindsight and no forward thinking. She seeks pleasure and thrill and risk, with no regard to how this could hurt herself or others. Not that she doesn't care about people, but more of she just doesn't recognize danger. She wants nothing more than to expand her powers just to see how far she can go. Despite being able to read minds and feel the emotions of others, she struggles to empathize or understand exactly what she's feeling, usually misinterpreting what others are thinking. Overstimulation and frustration can lead to her seeking ways to avoid her problems and more dangerous behavior. Ash needs to be kept busy - have her do something productive and hands-on, and she will be fine.
Ash and Narul
I think Ash would feel a little conflicted about approaching Narul, considering his size, and she doesn't like feeling physically helpless. However, I think she would, because she also likes risk and after a bit of debate would decide she could use her telepathy to her advantage. Being able to read his thoughts, I think Ash would figure out that he's not a threat, even if she doesn't understand being timid of himself just because he might hurt someone. She does get the fear on some level, since she has done so before herself, but she's always just reassessed how to go about testing her powers. Why limit herself? She may try to teach Narul that. You can't learn if you don't try. Narul I think would be scared that he might hurt her, a child, in the process, so probably wouldn't give in. I think Ash would get his frustration in his own skin, since she's felt that way many times. However, she will never understand not wanting to see what he's capable of. But I think that Narul will ultimately remind Ash of her best friend, Lexi. Jealous easily, cries easily, easily overwhelmed, hates violence...just a million times more reserved than she is. Narul may be jealous that Ash even has a friend group, even if Ash manages to admit most of her friend group was constructed by Lexi. I think they'd be able to connect on some level, but ultimately not understand each other quite well.
Ash and Mikrab
I think Ash and Mikrab could help each other. Ash is always eager to learn more, and through telepathy, could help Mikrab potentially regain some memories. She would love to absorb the knowledge he has, maybe experience what the long life was. However, if he's lost the ability to care, Ash may do this without consent, even if she believes it would ultimately help him. I'm sure she'd sit on it for a while, but in an intense situation, in an attempt to stop him, she'd easily rip into his mind to try and access what he once lost. She wouldn't do anything that deep without consent on impulse, I don't think. Unless we're talking about Ash toward the end of TSP, then I think she would, and in a way she becomes more and more apathetic like Mikrab. So depending on the circumstances, Ash could help Mikrab connect with memory and emotion again as she learns new things and tests her abilities, or Ash's drive to do that will get her severely hurt, killed, or just in a generally bad situation.
Ash and Djek
Djek may intrigue Ash a bit too much. She may be able to sense he's lying, sense him covering pain with humor, etc wonder why, and peak into his mind. May get a bit overwhelmed by the self-loathing thing. She has used humor before to defuse situations, so they have that in common, but she does not exactly covering up her own pain with it. She will try to understand Djek, but her curiosity may get the best of her, and I'm not sure he'll like her experiencing his own self-loathing and calling out every lie he makes. I think they would clash, at least at first. Djek being in touch with emotions naturally would be an interesting comparison. I feel like they'd call each other's feelings out, read each other and make the other one irritated as a result. However, I do think that if they were in A Situation in which they were forced to work together or bond, they could do it. Ash definitely would be interested in Djek's magic, weak or not, and may even encourage him to test his limits.
Ash and Nellie
Ash would probably accidentally sense Nellie is a clone, but she'd also sense she shouldn't reveal that to anyone. Her kind empathetic nature who puts herself last would remind Ash a lot of her friend Gwen. Hearing Nellie has empathetic magic would definitely cause Ash to be curious, and she'd ask her many questions about it. First, she may ask how she could learn to interpret emotions, but also may see if she can help Nellie expand her powers a bit more. Ash also has a bit of a developing addiction to telepathic probes that expand her mind and give her visions but start to take a toll on her - mentally, emotionally, physically. If Nellie is shaking off an addiction, I would hope she manages to convince Ash to stop using the probes. Cannot confirm if it would work or not - it may make Ash get irritated and want to use them more to prove she can do it. That last bit may cause a divide, but I think they'd mostly be interested in the other.
Well that was long.

Harakiri for the Sky - Mære
Tsekkaa eritoten Sing for the Damage We've Done (mukana Alcestin Neige) ja Three Empty Words. Kaiken ansaitun hehkutuksen vastapainoksi heitetään kolme argumenttia: Lyriikat melko perseestä, enkun lausuminen karkeaa ja musiikillisesti seuraavaan levyyn on helvetin vaikea enää parantaa. Nippelitiedoksi loppuun pikkutarkoille niiloille: Once upon a Winterille kävi eräs ranskalainen pirkko vetämässä narulle naisvokaalit, mutta levyllä niitä ei kuitenkaan kuulla. Viime hetkillä vedettiin pois niinkuin ilman kortsua jörnivät kikkelikeijot. Syynä muikkelista löytyneet kytkökset ja ilmeisen vankat ajatusmaailmat äärioikeistolaisiin juttuihin, rasismiin ja NSBM -posseihin. Melko pikkumaista.
Lätty julkaistu helmikuun 19, 2021. Spotify.
