Another snippet of fankid content bc I’m hyperfixated on it again
Wren bellyflops onto the couch. Jamie collapsed on it after. Owen lays on top of the couch. Lastly, Sylvie sits down on the couch gently.
“Augh. Today was ass.” Wren says. “Agreed.” Owen and Jamie say in unison. Sylvie just nods.
“But why?” Owen asks.
“Had to dogsit. This one mastiff jumped on me today and knocked me into the creek. Almost broke my leg. That and I also got a C in English because of a missing essay. I left it upstairs in my house so… yeah..” Wren explained, examining their right leg. “What about you?”
“Y’know how I have the new neighbors, right? The Raymond twins?” He asked.
“Oh how could we forget. You talk about them constantly.” Jamie smirked.
“Shut up.” His face flushed. “Anyway. I passed them and tried to say hi, then I tripped on my goddamn shoelace and rolled down the stairs.”
Sylvie winces. Jamie says, “Damn. Rule 5 of being attractive. Make sure your shoes are tied.”
“..and what do you know about that?” Owen laughs. “You’ve like the same person for god knows how long and you STILL don’t have the balls to ask her out.”
Jamie shrugs. Wren is holding in a laugh. Sylvie is confused.
“All I can offer up today is how tired I am.” He says.
“I was left behind by you guys when we were walking here!” Sylvie groaned.
“Sorry…” Wren and Owen say. Jamie sits up. “I’m not.” He laughs. “It’s because we were walking to your house, stupid.” Wren countered. “Yeah.” Owen agreed.
“Well, you guys still left Sylvie behind. I’d never.” Jamie rolled his eyes. Sylvie glared at him, as if to disagree. “Yeah because your a lover boy”Wren started but Jamie slapped his hand over their mouth. Not that it stopped anything. What was said was said. Realization falls over Sylvie’s face.
A silence fell among the group.
“Are you serious..?” Sylvie asked, breaking the quiet pause. She sounded cautious at first, then repeated what she said with a harsher tone.
“ARE YOU SERIOUS?” She was practically yelling. When it came to Sylvie, she never actually raised her volume above the average speaking level, but the tone and expression were amplified.
“…Why are you upset?-“ Jamie consulted, looking confused.
“You decide to be our closest friend for years, drift off in middle school, and completely abandon us in high school. Then you start hanging out with us again and say you like me..? Just like that? Acting like nothing happened?!”
“This isn’t anything new! I’ve liked you since we met!-“
“WHY?- YOU LEFT US. YOU LEFT ME. SO WHAT IF YOU LIKED ME. I WAS IN LOVE WITH YOU.” She was literally yelling this time.
“Oh yeah totally and then you all fucking replaced me-“
“…” She looked away from him.
“..I regret it all, okay? I’ve spent the last five months trying to rebuild my friendship with you guys. I’m an asshole. A prick. A loser. Whatever you want to call me. I’m trying to be sincere. I’m sorry.”
Sylvie looked at him, a complete pissed off expression. Then she did something he didn’t expect, hugging him and crying. Not a complete over the top sob session. Just a cry.
“…Sylv?”
“…” She let go of him. Wren grabbed Sylvie’s hand. “She and I need to talk one-on-one, alright? Owen, make sure James keeps his ass here.” They say.
————————————————————————
Fifteen minutes into their talk.
“Why is he coming back to us now?” Sylvie asked.
“Eh. Either he really missed us or he found out about the rumors of his other friends being creepy towards the freshman.”
“Wha-“
“Yeah. That’s probably a big part of it.” Wren stares at the ground. “I don’t know. You decide whether you forgive him for leaving us or not though.”
“Should I..?” Sylvie asks. Wren shrugs. “It’s up to you. If you need to give it time, sure.”
Sylvie stood up and the two walk back into the room. Owen is currently hanging off of Jamie’s arm. “He was talking my ear off…” Jamie whined.
“Tell me about it.” Wren laughed. “Anyway, the food’s here. Come on.” Owen smiled.
The four walk downstairs and eat. Not much conversation. “…Do you guys actually want me back?” Jamie asked.
“I mean.. yeah.” Wren said. “Obviously.” Owen agreed.
“…” Sylvie stared dead at him. “Not going to answer that.”
“That’s fair.” He sighed.
“But answer this for me: how the hell are we replacing you? It’s more of the other way around.” She asked, each word a hesitation.
“The scary ginger guy.”
Sylvie snorts. Owen almost choked on a chicken wing. Wren starts their loud and brass laughter.
“OCTOBER ZHAO?!- THAT GUY?-“ Wren continued. “REALLY?-“
“Wren became his friend. By association, we started hanging out with him too. He doesn’t like you much only because we’d vent to him about you. Our bad.” Owen dipped his head apologetically.
“..He’s really nice when you get to know him.” Sylvie said. “He thought you’d eventually come around, so there’s that.”
“—oh.” Jamie nods. “I see.”
“…Glad we for that resolved, I guess. Can we watch a movie or something now?” Owen asked.
————————————————————————
The four on the couch, exhausted but enjoying the time. The movie is one that’s not trash but not memorable. The front door clicks open.
“…Oh hey Appa. Hope you don’t mind that Wren, Owen, and Sylvia came over.” Jamie says, looking over at his dad standing in the doorway.
“I don’t mind. They’re nice kids.” His dad smiled. “It’s late.. don’t stay up past 12. Get some sleep, son. Make sure your friends get home safely though. I know full well that if anything happened to those three, it’s my ass on the line.” He waved and walked upstairs.
Jamie laughed. “He has a point. Adanna would absolutely sue.” Wren said. “Yeah, my mom would totally raise a lawsuit.” Owen sighed.
Light hum of Sylvie’s snore could be heard. Soft breaths as she leaned against Jamie. Owen decided to spare Jamie but Wren would not give the mercy.
“Awwww. I knew she’d fall back into your arms eventually~”
“Shut.” He said. Sylvie opens an eye. Jamie felt fear as Sylvie stared at him with a sleepy expression. She wrapped her arms around him.
“or I guess you’re in her arms??-“ Wren said.
“..shut up. I need this.” Sylvie said, then went quiet.
“Does this mean we’re okay now?” Jamie asked.
“I’ll think about it. Doesn’t mean I am over you though.” Sylvie said, then falling asleep.
Owen turned to face them. “Am I the only one actually watching this?-“

It didn't happen every year, but this year, this year was unique. The many ups and downs you two have had always made you feel panicked and usually worrying that maybe this was it, was he done? He didn't come home last night, and he didn't bother to call. It was a diminutive fight, and you felt horrible, like you had really wronged him in such a small way this whole thing ate at you. Spending the night crying on the couch with a pint of Ben & Jerry's at your side, you kept the living room dark while occasionally taking a sip of your last bottle of red wine. Looking at your phone waiting for him to text you, to even call it was agonizing.
Waking up, you think to yourself that this is a new day, a brand new start. Looking out the window, you watch as the neighbor children get off the bus for school. Letting out a breath, you make your way to the kitchen and make yourself a cup of coffee and realize you've slept over half the day away You think to yourself, 'Today will be okay.' but in the back of your mind, you're still freaking out over the other night. Beating yourself up all over again, you place your coffee on the counter; and make your way back to the living room, curling up on the couch; and crying some more.
Meanwhile, Sy is on the training grounds training some new idiots how to do their job. He looks at his watch and lets out a heavy breath, and shakes his head. Walking around, he looks behind him a moment to see someone heading his way.
"Captain, did you forget what yesterday was?"
"Huh?" He asks with a slight arch to his lip and brow.
"Sir! It was your anniversary!" they all yell.
Looking back down at his watch and checking his phone, Sy growls. "Fuck!" He hands the cup off to someone else and heads out. "Fall out!" He yells over his shoulder and heads inside to grab the keys to his truck. Looking in the passenger seat and shakes his head. "I'm sorry, baby." He says aloud and starts the vehicle heading home.
You've fallen asleep crying had knocked you back out. You didn't bother picking up your empty items from the night before, and you hadn't showered in two days, and you were a complete mess. You weren't expecting him to ever come back, and if he did, it would be when you weren't home to get his things. You didn't understand you only wanted to spend the rest of your life with this man meant the world to you maybe, that wasn't what he wanted.
Pulling up to the house, he turned off the truck and got out, grabbing the gift bag in the passenger seat. Sy tries to quietly head inside the house. The lights were off, but he could see that you were still home. The shadow of your hand was under the couch as he made his way inside. He walked softly after he undid his boots, leaving them at the door.
As he made his way into the living room, he noticed the empty bottle, the day-old wine glass, the barren Ben & Jerry's, and piles of tissues. Shaking his head, he beat himself up. He quietly made his way up the stairs and started the bath. Putting your favorite bath bomb in the water and some bubble bath, the bathroom started to smell like lavender and cedar. Admittingly, he loved those damn bath bombs. Lighting the candles and setting various things out for you that had come out of the gift bag, he placed the gift bag on the toilet. There were two extra things in there.
After turning the lights off and turning off the water, he made his way downstairs. Looking at you, he let out a small breath.
"Baby, wake up." He spoke softly, lifting your head to sit on the couch.
You look up the feeling of being moved and jolt awake. Looking up at Sy, you begin to cry all over again and wrap yourself around him. You hated how this all went, and you hated yourself.
"Baby, don't cry. It's okay. I'm sorry. You didn't do anything wrong. I shouldn't have left the way I did. I don't know what I was thinking. I've got something for you." He doesn't say anymore. He picks you up and carries you up the stairs. You wrap your arms around his neck and bury yourself into him.
When he opens the bathroom door, you look at everything he had done. You start crying more. It was beautiful, and it was thoughtful, and it was adorable. Looking back at him after he set you down, you wrap your arms around his torso and bury your face into his chest.
"I was so afraid you weren't coming home." you mumble into his chest.
"I'd be stupid not to." He tells you with a finger under your chin to look up at him. Sy leans down and kisses you softly. You deepen the kiss and grip at his shirt. His heavy hands move under your shirt and caress the small of your back. He looks down at you. "How about I help you get those clothes off, and I help you into the bath?" He smiles.
Nodding your head, he slips your shirt off and slowly pulls off your shorts, and looks at you smiling. "I could look at you for days." He smirks. Your hands move to undo his pants, he stops you. "Let me take care of you." He smiles a bit. Biting your lip, you nod slowly as he lifts you and places you into a bath of perfect water temperature.
You sit there and look at him. He grabs the loofa and your favorite body wash and washes you. Taking his time and not missing an inch of you, he takes a cup that you use for your baths and rinses off the soap. With the same cup, he pours some water on your head and starts slowly washing your hair. Looking down at you, he watches you slowly cry, and that's when he had enough. Rinsing your hair out, he stands up, strips down, and gets into the bathtub with you, not thinking about the water overflowing.
He wraps his arms around you and holds you close. "It's okay. Baby, I'm sorry. I am so sorry." He repeats as he kisses your wet head.
"It's not that. I was so afraid, Sy. I was horrified you wouldn't come home. I... I don't know what I would have done." You sob softly with your face in your hands.
"It's okay. It's okay. I understand. I was an asshole, I didn't think. I was late for work, there was no communication, and I just... Baby, I'm sorry." He repeats.
Leaning in, he kisses your neck. Sniffling you, bite your lip, and your breath jagged.
"Let me show you that I would never leave you. Let me make this up to you." He whispers into your ear. All you can do is nod slowly.
Holding his hands in yours a moment before he moves his hands down your stomach to your hips and lifts you onto his lap, before standing you up, he takes a towel and wraps it around you before standing up himself and carries you to the bedroom, leaving behind wet footprints.
He places you on the bed, and hovers over you, and unwraps the towel. Looking over you, he licks his bottom lip and leans in, and kisses you softly, but with such a need behind the action. He kisses your neck and your collarbones. Taking a breast in one hand and taking your nipple into his mouth, he suckles a bit while gently squeezing the other breast.
Slowly he works his way down and looks up at you as he kisses your hips and then hovers, his breath warm against your now swollen and sensitive bud. Kissing you between the legs, he spreads your legs, lifting them over his shoulders, his strong arms wrap around your legs as he sucks softly on your clit. Your breathing hikes and shakes as you grip the towel at your sides.
His eyes gaze up at you. His blue eyes watch as you react to his gesture. He begins to gently move his fingers to spread your lower lips and licks your now wet core, tasting you. Sy lets off a small groan against your body which only causes you to moan a soft moan. He becomes more hungry in his actions as his tongue works its magic against your pussy, driving your senses into overdrive. He moves back up to pay attention to your clit as his hands grip at your legs, his fingers digging into your fleshy legs.
As his tongue swirls around your clit, your legs press against his head, but he pulls them back. Your hips move against his mouth as he groans again, only causing you to moan louder. Your hands move to his head, placing them on the top of his shaved head as he groans again and moves faster. Growing in his own excitement, he grinds his hips against the bed triggering him to get stiffer. The friction and sensation to himself as he pleased you, he needed you.
"Oh Sy." You moan softly. He picks up speed causing your legs to shake and your hips to buckle.
Biting you softly, you buckle again. Sy takes your thigh into his mouth, biting your leg leaving little hickies, almost like marking what's his. You moan again as he works his way back up to your lips, kissing you with such need he pushes himself into you, your back arches, your breath hitches, and your hands grip at his back, your nails digging into his skin. Your legs wrap around him as he slowly starts to thrust into you.
As you moan, he moans as he thrusts your hips move to meet his. Your bodies close and heated at this moment. Your hands slide down his strong arms, and he intertwines your fingers holding them above your head as he thrusts deeper into you. The more he keeps up with this pace, your back arches into him as you kiss him with such a fiery passion. Your heels dig into his ass as if helping him thrust deeper into you.
"You're so wet, so tight, you feel so good." He whispers against your lips.
"I love how you fill me." you whisper back. "You know just how I like it."
"I love you, Y/N." He moans into your mouth as he kisses you deeply.
Thrusting harder and a little faster, picking up the speed, you moan into his mouth, causing him to go into overdrive. His thrusts pick up, his grunts paced, your breathing is a steady pant mixed with moans. The sounds of your body colliding fill the room. As he starts to pound into you, your hips rise, and you dig your nails into his back, scraping.
"FUCK!" You moan loudly.
"Cum for me, Baby." He tells you.
"Don't pull out." you tell him.
"Beg for it." He snarls, now a primal beast.
"Cum in me, Sy. Please. Don't pull out." you moan as both of you climax at the same time. Your body shakes, your pussy quivers your floor muscles pulsating and massaging his cock as if pulling every last drop in.
"Fuck." He moans softly against your ear. "That was amazing." He chuckles.
You look over his face and smile softly. "I love you. More than you will ever understand." You whisper.
He kisses you softly and slowly pulls out, causing you both to moan softly as he falls next to you. Turning on your side, you cuddle up to him, your fingernails raking over his chest. His hand moves along your back, his fingers against your spine.
"Happy anniversary... I'm sorry I forgot." He smiles softly.
"That's okay. How about I order us some pizza, we can have the bottle you brought, I can bring out your whiskey, and we can have a night of... well... this." You chuckle.
"That sounds perfect." He smiles, holding you close.

hello anon! i’m sorry i took a while to answer this. i went a bit off track with this and got A LOT more angsty, so i’m really sorry about that. If you want me to make a much more fluffier or mellowed-out version, i’d be happy to. please, read the trigger warnings before reading this.
i don’t plan on writing more angst-y things like this, especially not this angsty, so don’t worry. once again, please, if you would like me to rewrite this into a less emotional version i’d be happy to
cw: swearing
tw: talk of god and the church, slight manipulation, repetition of words
accomplishments:
holy shit. you were in disbelief. a state of shock. one million twitch followers. one. million. followers. you were silent. shock can have many effects on a person. some scream and laugh out of joy, or a misplaced sense of mania. others cry, because they cannot handle it. some remain confused, because their brains are unable to conceptualize the event. you were silent.
what should you do? would a “thank you” tweet be good enough or would it come off as insincere? should you wait to stream? or would that make people feel you didn’t care because you took so long? through the anxiety you could feel the true realization that you now had one million followers. like a truck, you were hit with the most excited feeling ever. getting up, you jumped around your room. you spun and jumped and cheered and whooped and yelled and smiled and danced and were overflowing with joy, with the acknowledgement that you had done it, you had really fucking done it.
opening the window above your desk, without a single fuck, you screamed. “WHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!!!” let’s just hope your neighbors don’t wake up.
you stayed up all night, celebrating. tweeting out a thank you, you received congratulations from your fans and friends while you talked with the people in your discord vcs.
in the morning, your mother and father had woken up. with a newfound determination, you ran downstairs. streaming was your passion and you wanted to tell the world what you had done. but, because of limitations, your mother was your metaphorical world.
“mom! mom! mom! mother, mother, mumther!!” you shouted, dashing down the stairs, tripping over your feet. stupid wood flooring and slidy socks.
from your place at the bottom of the stairs, you heard her sigh, “yes, sweetie?”
you bounded over to her, setting your arms on the kitchen counter. from the hallway you could see your dad, who was sitting on the couch drinking his sunday morning coffee. “mom! guess what?” without giving her time to respond, you shouted, “i hit one million follows on twitch! one freaking million!”.
your mother didn’t seem as enthusiastic as you. “is that why you were causing such a ruckus last night? and, watch your mouth, even though ‘freaking’ isn’t a ‘true’ curse, i don’t want you swearing. especially not on the lord’s day. i couldn’t fathom going to church everyday, only to allow you to have a mouth like that.” she continued to stare at her work papers.
“oh, uh, okay mother. dad? did you hear me? i hit one million on twitch.” you awkwardly turned your head over to your father.
“she’s right, you know that, don’t you sweetie?” your father stood up, and made his way into the kitchen. “language like that, it’s shameful. surely, we don’t need you to have a private session with father paulson, do we?” your dad stood next to your mother, rubbing her back as he stared at you.
“no, no, of course not. um, i’m gonna go upstairs now.” you turned around, wishing you could simply disappear.
“without breakfast? are you truly that upset with us? we can’t have you ending up like those people, committing sinful acts and going to hell. god would never forgive you. we’re already taking a risk allowing you to stream, putting yourself out there.”
both your mother and father stared at you. your blood felt like ice in your veins. the white walls of your house seemed so much brighter, yet duller at the same time. everything felt a white-pure-pink-orange. your breathing got uneasy. choppy. in, out, out, in, in, in, out, in, in, out, out for different increments of time. 5, 3, 2, 7, 10, 9, 6, 4, 1, 6, 8, seconds, over and over and over.
“we just wanna protect you, dear. we love you, don’t you get that?” your mother stared at you.
you felt like a scene in those movies. the ones that directly cater to teens who thought their lives were shit when in reality they just hadn’t grown up enough to make sense of something yet. were you one of those teens? or is this actually wrong. you don’t think it is, but you don’t talk to others about this. family matters stay in the family was a common phrase repeated in your household. the church was family, they could know. your mother and father, they could know. others, they must not know, never know.
“of course, mother, father.” you wanted to force yourself to speak, but syllables were incapable of getting past your lips. your mouth was full of peanut butter from the sandwiches served in your elementary school cafeteria. but, the partly frozen chocolate milk always washed it down. “of course. i love you guys too. love you.” you smiled, a disgusting smile that felt violating to exist on your face, violating, violating, violating.
you dashed up the stairs, to your room, up, up, up. running in, you wanted to slam the door, scream out the window, puch your pillow, smash your pc, cry, whatever you could do to get out your emotions. but instead, you lightly shut your door and slowly walked over to your desk chair to see who was online. you would go live later. it was only 5 AM, after all. they could wait. at least, you hoped they could.
opening discord, just to see what everyone was doing, you saw philza minecraft was online. you went over and messaged him, ‘phil. philza. philza minecraft. vc please?’ in response, you received a short, ‘sure m8, gimme a minute’ you waited, until you heard the noise confirming he had joined.
“good morning phil.” your energy from before had receded back into the confines of your chest. the prior excitement was gone and replaced with a feeling of fatigue.
“morning mate, how are you? congrats on the one mill!” phil sounded excited, happy for you. you smiled, chuckling a bit.
“i’m alright man, just tired. how are you? and, thanks for the congrats.” you smiled, feeling the fatigue set in.
“i’m good. but you, you don’t sound very good. couldn’t sleep, could ya’? that was how i was when i hit one mill. way too excited to sleep.”
“yeah. yeah, i’m just tired.” you were getting a bit too tired to talk. the day had barely started, and yet the full-body emotional exhaustion had set.
“‘just tired’? the hell happened kid?” phil’s voice sounded concerned. fuck. the last thing you wanted to do was worry him. he had his own life and you had already caused enough trouble today.
“it’s nothing big phil, seriously. just my parents.” there, a slight bit of information. family matters still within the family, just a few words.
“they being shitbirds? or are you lying, and something big did happen?” he was being inquisitive, which was dangerous. questions were dangerous.
“no, why would i lie?” his inquisitiveness would continue, you knew. so you spilled the metaphorical beans. “they just, just weren’t as supportive as i’d wished they were when i told them. i was really psyched, y’know? and them, just sort of, not giving a shit? i don’t know man, it just feels bad.”
“i get you. it’s shit, when people don’t care about your accomplishments. my parents never really saw streaming as a true profession in the beginning, which led to shit like you describing. i promise it gets better though, even if it feels like shit now. and, for what it’s worth, i’m proud of you.”
“it’s fine phil, you don’t need to try to make me feel better. i’m okay, seriously.” you didn’t need or want his pity. accepting it would feel patronizing.
“no, you need to understand that i’m not fucking around. one million is a big fuckin’ thing, especially for you who hasn’t been streaming all that long to achieve. it’s fucking amazing, mate. be proud of yourself, for christ’s sake.” his fake anger chimed through your headphones. even though you were being berated, you still felt better.
“thank you, phil. i needed that.”
“your welcome, mate. and look, anytime your parents are being shit, don’t try to hold it all in. call me, or wil, or someone, okay? don’t hold that shit in.”
you fake sighed, just to piss him off. “okayyyyyy….”
“good. now, go take a nap or some shit. i love you, kid.”
“love you too, dadza.” this time, your words didn’t feel forced. the smile on your face wasn’t violating, but an invitation to better times. it would be alright. okay.

You Need To Remember Part 2

While you go downstairs to see what the twins were up to, Peter stays on the bed, stirring in his thoughts. The more he thinks of his dream, the more he remembers, the more he starts to break out of the fog around his mind. And the more upset he gets that Wanda’s gotten into your head when you just wanted to help him. He rushes to confront his so-called twin before she can get back into his mind.
Meanwhile you head downstairs to see the twins playing video games in front of the couch. The house looks different and as much as that tickles something in the back of your head, it doesn’t seem out of place, it seems normal to wake up in an entirely new decade. You plop down behind the twins not bothering with getting anything to eat when you hear muffled arguing coming from upstairs. You and the twins share a look before they go back to playing their game. When it starts to glitch out and revert back to games from past decades they look at you as if you could fix it.
“We have to go.” As the twins run up yelling for their mom, Pietro appears next to you, pulling you up into his arms so he can hold onto your neck.
“What, why?” He speeds the two of you into an alley behind a group of houses before he lets go of you. You stumble a bit feeling a little ill from the motion, but you can’t help but feel as if you should be used to it by now.
“Stay right here, I’ll grab us some clothes and when I come back I’ll explain, alright?”
“Yeah, alright. Are you okay? I heard you fighting with your sister.” He runs a hand through his hair thinking of how easy this would be if he could’ve gotten Wanda to release her hold on you, she was adamant that she wasn’t doing anything to you though.
“She’s not my sister, just stay right here. I’ll be back in just a minute.” He kisses your forehead, something the two of you would do back home when one of you was sick or worried, and places his hands on your shoulders. “I mean it, don’t go teleporting off somewhere.”
“Teleporting? Pietro what-” But he’s gone before you can finish speaking. What is he going on about? Of course Wanda’s his sister if she wasn’t why would you guys have come to this town. And teleporting? You? He knows you don’t have powers like he does.
True to his word Pietro’s back in just a minute now dressed in colorful clothes, a blue beanie resting atop his head. In his hands are clothes for you, which he holds out for you to take. The clothes consist of bell bottom jeans and a rainbow shirt that you’re sure will be tight on you. He turns around with a quick ‘get dressed’ after you take them from him.
“Right here, anyone can walk out and see me.”
“If you don’t hurry up and get dressed I’m gonna do it for you.”
“Can’t we just go back to the house, Pietro?” He sighs before turning around to face you.
“Peter. Sorry Y/n, but I’m sure you’ll forgive me.” And the next thing you know he’s tossing your pajamas into a trash can and you’re in the form fitting clothes. He whistles as he turns to look at you. “Damn Y/n you sure clean up nice.”
“Okay, now what?” Your hands go to your hips as you stand there impatiently.
“Right, do you remember what you said to me last night? About the school, about how we don’t belong here, about us.” All you can do is shake your head and as you’re about to ask him if he’s okay once more he speaks again. “C’mon you need to remember. There’s a presence in your head, yeah? I know you can feel it, feel her. You’ve always been good at fighting Jean out of that head of yours, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to fight Wanda out.”
“I don’t know what you want from me.” He’s right you can feel the presence but you don’t know how you’re supposed to get it out of your head.
“Just try, okay? Try for me.” You nod at him seeing the desperation in his eyes before shutting your own and trying to focus on getting whoever was in there out. You find the strength to push just enough to get the attention of the person in there and a glimpse of your actual life.
You again, I thought I told you to stop fighting?
Get out of my head.
I thought you were happy with the life you got here. It’s so much better than longing after him from afar, with no happy ending in sight. She shows you the memories you have of watching Peter with Jubilee and the times he told you about a date he was on. Memories of Jean teasing you for being jealous and of nights that you would cry into her shoulder over how much you loved him.
You’re wrong, there’s always a happy ending. You force memories of the two of you hanging out and laughing together to the front of your mind. Memories of playing games and listening to music and taking care of each other when the other is feeling down. Even if he doesn’t feel the same.
When you open your eyes again you’ve succeeded in pushing her out and you’re back to being you again. “Peter?”
“Y/n? Are you back to being you?”
“Back and better than ever, baby! What do you have me in by the way?” You back up and fully take in your outfit that clung to your skin like glue. “Are these heeled sandals?”
“Yeah.” He rubs the back of his neck. “Sorry I just grabbed the first outfit I could. You look good though.”
“You have a point there. My ass looks great in these jeans. You couldn’t get me a pair of sunglasses or anything?” He’s in front of you dangling a pair of sunglasses on his finger. “Thanks, look at us looking like a pair of stoners.” You both laugh at your words before Peter gets serious again.
“What are you doing here? How did you even get here?”
“Well when your best friend disappears right in front of you what else are you gonna do other than follow the loser to a new reality. As for how I got here, I’m not sure, it hasn’t come back to me yet. What I do know is we’re both back to being ourselves and it’s not Wanda, at least she wasn’t the voice in my head.”
“Who is it then?”
“I don’t know, but we should go tell Wanda about it. You think stores around here have bubblegum?”
“One way to find out.” Peter smirks at you before grabbing you and dashing off.
***
When you get back to Wanda’s house she’s being escorted away by a neighbor leaving a familiar looking woman behind. Peter goes to follow Wanda but you hold onto his hand as you take off the sunglasses to get a better look at her.
“I think I know her.”
“How would you know her? She's never been here before.” But you knew that was wrong, how though.
“I just...do. You go on and see what’s going on with Wanda, I’m gonna figure out who mystery woman is.”
“Be careful, Y/n.”
“When am I not, Maximoff.” You smirk at him as you step back and teleport away.
“All the damn time.” Peter mumbles to himself before heading in the direction Wanda went.
“Who are you?” The lady jumps at your sudden appearance in front of her. You’re chewing your gum obnoxiously and blow a bubble leaning on a car next to you. Her face scrunches up in confusion. “You don’t seem like you belong here.” You push the sunglasses up onto your head and something seems to click in hers.
“You! Did you ever find your friend?” She walks up to you as if you’re an ally she’s excited to find.
“Do I know you?”
“Oh, right, I’m Monica. I'm from the SWORD headquarters you showed up at at first.” You take her outstretched hand and the memory of you getting here hits you like a ton of bricks.
The memory of you all but tearing your way into their reality after talking to the professor and Hank about if it was possible comes to mind. And then storming into the headquarters when the sight of him on the tv stopped you. The tension was high in there, even higher now that you showed up. The man who seemed to be in charge was just arguing with someone. At the sight of your angry appearance he spoke into his comms, something about guns. An alarm goes off, the red of it matching your anger at having your best friend stolen from you.
“Where is he?” You had asked the man in charge while pointing at the image of a laughing Peter.
“Who are you?” The woman, Monica asked you but you weren’t there for introductions. Men armed with guns start to flood into the room and you fling them back into the walls.
“Where. Is. He?” You take a few steps closer to her before the brunette behind her speaks.
“He’s in the hex.”
“What?” Your head whips over to look at her.
“One of our mighty heroes went rogue and is holding people hostage in her own reality.” You start to choke the man speaking without a care as you turn to face him.
“I wasn’t speaking to you, was I? Where is it?” You turn back around to face the brunette again. She just points out the window to respond to you.
“She’s controlling everything in there, she’ll control you too.” The man forces it out of his mouth, gaining your attention once more.
“And you’re not doing anything about it? You’re not working on getting him out?”
“We don’t know how.” Monica speaks again and you scoff, cracking your knuckles.
“Then I’ll do it.” With that you release your hold on the man's neck and all of his guards before teleporting to the static wall. You can feel the power coming from it as you reach out with your hand. You had mumbled a quick ‘I’m coming Pete’ before getting sucked in.
“Y/n.” You say as you shake Monica’s hand. “Sorry about choking out your boss.”
“He’s a dick he deserved it anyway.”
“Anyway,” you blow another bubble, “yeah, I found my friend and snapped him out of it. I should meet up with him anyway, you going after Wanda too?”
“Yeah.”
“Let’s go then.” You push the sunglasses back onto your face before following Monica. You watch her as she looks in windows and doors before opening up the cellar doors to unveil vines and a way into what seems to be a dungeon.
“Snoopers gonna snoop.” Peter zips so he’s right next to her and you smile at his words while Monica looks at him shocked.

28. I'll catch you
Prompt used- Feeling for each other in the dark | domestic | fluff | harry and draco spend a black out together|
" I still think you should get the white paint, it'd be a nice contrast " harry said as he carried draco's shopping bags with him
" and I've told you, white is not my colour. Besides it gets dirty easily " draco replied as he hustled with bags behind harry. Harry looked over his shoulder to see if Draco was fine, giving him a firm nod harry turned around to realise they've reached his door.
" I'm sorry I didn't know you had to play with mud in your living room " harry rolled his eyes
" very funny potter " Draco rolled his eyes and got ahead of harry to unlock the door. He struggled with getting keys out of his pocket.
" where is it ?" Harry huffed
Draco blinked at harry before he pushed his waist towards harry to let him take out keys. Harry propped all the bags in one hand before reaching down draco's pockets, wriggling his fingers to find the keys.
" can you wear any more tight pants " harry rolled his eyes as he finally grasped the keys
" it's called fashion potter but then again you obviously don't understand fashion at all, coming from your baggy clothes" draco rolled his eyes as he got behind harry to let him open up the door.
" I have fashion sense for your information malfoy, I just happen to wear what I'm comfortable in " harry answered as he pushes the door open and just as they entered his flat the lights went off.
" Merlin's sake- I'll get the lights " draco huffed as he left all the things on the kitchen isle and walked away. Harry too kept the things on the isle and locked the door.
" Malfoy, are you sure you're not creating light ?" Harry sarcastically called as he looked through the bags for his wand.
" you do realise you're quite funny potter " draco called out from some room. Harry smiled at the thought of how draco always wanted to give harry a come back but could never find anything good enough for it, so he always struck with the funny line.
" well the lights are out. I'm gonna go check with the neighbors- potter- where are you ?" Draco said as he walked into the kitchen himself but because of no light he couldn't see anything.
" fuck " harry hissed as he stubbed his toe against the bottom of the isle.
" found you " draco said as he blindly tried to reach for harry.
" lumos " finally draco heard and soon saw Harry's wand in his hands.
" I'm gonna go check with the neighbour " draco said as he searched for his wands in the bags
" well you do that, I'll go downstairs and try to check the power supply box and probably stop by my flat to see if I have any torches or candles down there " harry said as he crossed the kitchen, retrieving his keys from the pocket and walking out of the door.
" don't take too long " draco said almost worried. Harry turned around to see Draco with a little Curious frown before he nodded and left.
Once draco realised that the whole block was out because of the transformer problem from the power supply unit, he decided to tell Harry once he returned but he seemed to be taking too long and he simply couldn't wait for harry all alone in the dark especially when he couldn't find his wand. So he walked downstairs towards the power supply unit of the building. He pushed open the door without a creek and searched for harry. He followed the sound coming from the other side and cautiously made his way towards the sound.
" fuck " draco exasperated when he felt something brush against his leg. He looked down to see it was only his other leg.
" stupid potter " draco hissed under his breath and walked further inside.
And suddenly draco crashed with something and fell down, only to realise he had collided with someone and now they were on top of him. He recognised by the smell of the person that it was harry.
" potter" draco whispered not making a move to push him over from above him.
" you scared the fucking shit out of me " he hissed
" well if I wasn't sure until now, I'm sure it's you now " draco rolled his eyes and pushed harry off him.
Harry stood up and brushed off his clothes, offering a hand to draco, who subtly rejected.
" wheres your wand ?" Harry asked as he looked down over the ground for his own.
" I couldn't find it " draco answered as he brushed off his own clothes " where's yours ?"
" I lost it when you crashed into me, I can't find it without a light source and it's bloody dark down here " harry replied.
" yeah I asked the whole block's out. Some problem at the main power unit " draco informed.
" well, if that's the case. We should go back up and look for candles at my place, I'm sure you don't have any " harry said still looking down for his wand.
" what about your wand ?" Draco asked but his voice sounded distant. Harry waved his hand in the air to reach for him but couldn't get a grasp of him.
" let's go find candles first and then come back here to look for it " harry finally decided" where the hell even are you ?" He added
" right next to you, you idiot " he still sounded distant.
" Malfoy, step forward, you aren't around me" harry told him as he stepped forward to reach for him. He heard some footsteps coming towards him.
" where the hell are you !" Draco hissed as he tried reaching for harry until he finally did.
" I'm never losing you in the dark " harry sarcastically said
" and why's that ?" Draco asked still holding onto Harry's shirt
" because you're a baby- let's go up now " harry said as he reached for draco's hands and pulled him forward to walk.
" I can walk on my own " draco scowled as he walked along with harry
" I am sure. It's for not losing you or you'll wind up getting lost and crying yourself to sleep down here " harry replied as he pushed open the door blindly and walked past it with draco still holding his hands.
" do you always have to be so sarcastic or its your inbuilt ability to Always annoy people " draco rolled his eyes
" a bit of both " harry chuckled.
They finally reached the stairs and carefully going up, harry made sure draco wasn't falling. It was a simple gesture of showing he cared.
When they finally reached Harry's floor, they struggled getting inside since he couldn't find the key hole.
" I miss my wand " draco huffed as harry still jingled with his keys.
" no wonder you screwed up your muggle studies practicals " harry rolled his eyes " aha" harry excitedly said as he finally pushed open the door.
" I did not screw up my muggle studies practicals. It's just muggle have to do everything the hard way. Like right now if we had a wand, we could've simple said alohomora and the door would've been open" draco explained feeling for harry in the dark realising harry had dropped his hands as soon as they had walked into his flat, a small amount of disappointment washing over him.
" I'll get the candles and lighters " harry said as he walked into the kitchen and started looking carefully for candles and lighters in the drawer.
" harry, can you hurry up " draco finally said after a few minutes in silence. Harry stopped dead in his movements, he knew Draco only uses his first name when he was actually troubled and now was one of the moments.
" I'm trying to find, don't worry " harry replied and began looking for it again until he finally found the candles and the lighter both and finally lit it up.
" Merlin, finally " draco sighed as he jumped down from the counter and reached for harry until he realised what he was doing and created a distance, a strange awkwardness washing over them.
" well " harry raised his eyebrows " lets go and look for my wand then and then we'll go back to your place "
Draco nodded and walked Behind harry.
" or you could simply go upstairs and wait for me while I go-"
" I'll come with you " draco interjected quickly.
Harry looked at Draco a bit concerned " I didn't know you were afraid of the dark "
" I'm not " draco protested. But harry knew better, so he nodded and dropped the matter. Once they had finally collected Harry's wand from the power house and walked back to draco flat and light bunch of other candles and set them over every other table to keep the light burning since the electricity wasn't returning for long as they were aware of.
"and since they collected grains all summer for winters they weren't short of food " harry recited as he chewed on his minimalistic sandwich
" but then what happened of the grasshopper? Did he die ?" Draco asked Curiously, his legs tucked beneath Harry's thighs as he was leaned against the window pane
" no, because the ants shared their food with him. That's the thing about the fable, grasshopper was stupid not to store anything saying that won't need it possibly and ants worked hard enough all Summer yet they cared for him and they didn't wanted him to die so they shared " harry told him.
" that's interesting " draco frowned as he looked out of the window pondering about the fable harry had just recited
" it's all about sharing and Caring. That's basically what it's established upon " harry told him looking at Draco fondly
" I wish someone read these things to me when I was a kid " draco's tone suddenly changed to a melancholic voice. Harry stared at Draco Long enough to understand what was running inside his head. Sure they hadn't been friends for long but they understood each other much more than any other of their friends did, which was surprisingly nice.
" I know what you mean " harry calmly said as he looked outside watching over the dim lights blinking from far away.
" you do ?" Draco asked his head whipping in Harry's direction.
Harry turned and smiled at Draco "when I was a kid I didn't know how my parents had actually died. I spend days wondering how would it feel like to be with them. The world can read all these things to you but when someone who cares for you, reads them for you, it feels different. Almost as if it's not a fable you know, like you're living it, you're actually there. It's just-"
" better " draco finished off Harry's sentence smiling. Harry smiled at him then nodded, this was exactly what he wanted to say.
They stared at each other long enough, just smiling in silence. It felt nice, it felt too nice for either of them.
" you know, now I think I won't be so worried about losing you in the dark " harry smirked
" and why is that ?" Draco asked sliding back further into the window pane.
" because of your hair. It shines too bright in the moon. Like moon dancing on your head- hey it's like a song lyric " harry chuckled.
" I - I can't even with you- you know what harry, you aren't even that funny " draco rolled his eyes, restraining himself to give him a smile.
" come on, it was funny " harry scrunched his nose smiling
" no it wasn't " draco bit the inside of his lip to keep himself from smiling but harry wasn't having it, he kept poking draco lightly on his sides repeating that it was funny.
" it wasn't " but draco had broken into a smile and as if to cover it up he picked up a pillow and threw it in Harry's face
" you- you are dead Malfoy " harry gasped. Draco pressed his lips in a thin line over Harry's empty threats, which seemed empty until harry too threw a pillow at Draco's face.
" Merlin- harry stop " draco exasperated laughing. Harry gave one last throw before draco almost fell down until harry caught him.
" look what you did, I could've fallen down " Draco gasped
" as if. The most you Would've fallen would be on the floor " harry rolled his eyes
" besides I caught you" harry added. Draco's expression softened until he started laughing at what had just happened, harry soon laughing along. It was a sweet memory to enclose in their hearts, to lock it away, laughing away in the dark with no one but them. They probably still kept smiling at each other until the last candle died out and draco immediately grasped Harry's hands.
" it's all fine " harry reassured as he picked up his wand and casted a lumos.
They sat there holding hands, staring at each other in the dark, something had changed in the air, it wasn't so heavy before or it didn't feel as Warm before. There was something different in the way they stared at each other, something that made them want to extinguish the distance between each other, something that wanted them to pull each other close, something that wanted them to feel each other in the dark until the lights came back and broke them from their moment.
Clearing his throat harry stood up from the window sill and looked down to avoid Draco's eyes, who himself was assessing what had happened and looked anywhere but harry.
" oh - it's almost 10, I think I should- go " harry said awkwardly as he clapped his hands together only once and tip toed in his feets.
Draco abruptly stood up, being as awkward as harry " yeah- you're probably right" draco said in a strange whiny voice.
" yeah- so I- should go then " harry finally looked at Draco, who nodded at harry and they walked off to the door.
" I'll see you- well soon " draco said as he scratched the back of his neck nervously
" yeah- soon " harry pressed his lips in a thin line, not Making a move to go, just standing there staring at Draco again, who himself was staring until they heard the keys from Harry's hands drop on the ground, which surprisingly none of them knew he had in hands.
" I should go now " harry repeated and this time finally after clenching a smile he walked out of the door. Draco shut the door behind him and pressed his back against him sighing, his hands running over his face in exhaustion from something he didn't know. He remained there thinking of the awkward goodbye until he stopped thinking and turned around and almost opened the door until he decided not to and walked away.
10 seconds later draco returned and opened the door to find Harry's hand raised as if he was about to knock.
" you forgot something ?" Draco asked pushing one of his hands down into his pocket.
" uh yeah- I think- I left my wallet" harry hesitated
" oh- we'll look for it " draco said as he pulled the door further open to let harry in.
" Where'd you see it last ?" Draco asked as he shut the door and walked Behind harry into the living room.
"Yeah- I think- fuck- I have my wallet- I just- I couldn't stop thinking about doing this " and with that harry pressed his lips against draco. He immediately welcomed Harry's lips over his as if it was an Invitation he had been waiting for to be answered. Pushing his hands in Harry's hair, he pulled him further into him, almost hitting the back wall but Harry's hand had kept him from colliding into anything else. It wasn't a rushed kiss, but it was something they both found a relief in as if it was something it was something they both had been waiting for long to happen but didn't know of it.
Once they separated for air, draco pressed his head against harry's and breathed in deeply " yo- wow- I think I'll fall again "
Harry smiled whispering " don't worry, I'll catch you" and with that he kissed him again.

Chocolate Chip Pancakes - Bakugo
Tumblr media
A/N: I find myself drawn to writing Bakugo the most whenever I have oneshot ideas, I’m not sure why but I think he’s the easiest character for me to write. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this :)
Summary: You can’t sleep so Bakugo makes you your favorite breakfast food, Chocolate Chip Pancakes.
Word Count: 1,305
Moonlight streamed through the curtains as you tossed and turned, 1 AM, 2 AM, 3 AM your phone read as you checked it, seemingly unable to sleep no matter how many hours passed. You looked up at the ceiling, tempted to groan in frustration but refrained for fear of waking up your neighbor. You checked your phone once more, scrunching your eyes shut as the bright phone screen lit up the room 3:30 AM it read. You sat up and stretched, deciding that getting up and going downstairs for a while would do you some good; you weren’t really sure why you were still awake, maybe it was the anxiety of school starting, maybe it was the fact that everything in the world seemed hopeless, or maybe your body just hated you. You headed downstairs quietly, blanket dragging behind you and you sat on the common room couch, wrapped up in the dark. You didn’t turn on the lights, there was something about being up this early that made the world seem strange with them on, so you sat in the dark staring off into space. You thought you heard someone come downstairs, but you didn’t care enough to check who it was or to say hello, frankly you were too tired to care. Bakugo walked down the stairs and stiffened when he saw a dark figure on the couch, illuminated by the moonlight from outside. Who the hell is up this early? This is my alone time. Bakugo turned on the light and you jumped, pulled back to the real world. You looked up to see an annoyed-looking Bakugo hands on his hips and staring at you. “Oi you shouldn’t sit there in the dark like that. You’ll give someone a damn heart attack or something.” You blinked at him, trying to process in your tired state. “Oh. Sorry. I just couldn’t sleep is all.” You replied, a sigh escaping your lips. Bakugo stood there for a moment longer, surveying you with an eyebrow raised but rather than pressing the issue further he just made a hmph sound and went into the kitchen.
You heard some pans being shuffled around, and things being pulled out of cabinets and the fridge and the distinct sound of oil being heated in a pan. You abandoned your blanket on the couch and went into the kitchen, opting to sit at one of the barstools near the raised counter. You hadn’t ever spent a lot of alone time with Bakugo but you decided this was as good a time as any. The corners of your mouth twitched as you realized he was wearing an apron, but you dared not mention it, that was a death sentence for sure and you didn’t want to mess up this friendship before it had even started. “So what are you doing up this early?” You asked, watching him absentmindedly. Bakugo jumped, “Geez, you really need to stop sneaking up on people.” He saw you trying not to laugh and quickly turned around again shaking his head to regain his composure, “I’m always up this early. I make breakfast, then go for a run and then come back shower and go to class.” “Oh, I see. That must take some dedication.” You said, not really sure what to say. “I guess so. I’ve been doing this for a while so I guess it’s more of a habit than anything else.” He replied, flipping something from the pan into the air. Your eyes widened as you realized what it was, “Are those chocolate chip pancakes?” You asked, a slight squeak of surprise in your voice. “Yeah, got a problem with it?” Bakugo asked gruffly, practically bristling. “No, not at all,” You chuckled nervously, “I just thought that you hated them.” Bakugo didn’t look at you, focused on the task at hand, which was probably a good thing because as long as he didn’t turn to you there was no way you could see the massive blush on his face. “I do. But they’re your favorite right? You looked like you could use a pick-me-up.” He replied quietly as he loaded a few up on a plate and handed them to you. You took them tentatively, cheeks warm at the gesture. You had no idea that Bakugo even knew what your favorite type of pancakes were, you’d probably only mentioned it once, during one of those class ice-breaker things, and the fact that he remembered and cared enough to make them for you was touching, to say the least. Bakugo went back to the stove, presumably to make his own breakfast, “Syrup is in the pantry if you need it.” You made a sound of acknowledgment and padded over to the pantry, pulling the syrup out. As you sat back at your place at the counter you couldn’t help but shed a few tears, normally gestures of affection didn’t affect you like this, you weren’t a very outwardly emotional person despite your outgoing nature, but you were tired and this gesture was coming from someone you weren’t expecting. Bakugo of all people had made you your favorite pancakes just because he thought you needed cheering up. At the sound of you sniffling Bakugo whirled around, eyes wide with concern. Dammit did I not do the right thing? “Oi, why are you crying? Are you okay?” He asked, a barely detectable trace of panic in his voice. You looked up from your plate and glanced at him, wiping your tears away. “I’m fine. I think I’m just tired, so I’m a little more emotional than usual. Thank you for the pancakes, I appreciate it.” Bakugo relaxed, and nodded at your thanks, shutting off the stove and then joining you at the counter, leaving a stool between you in an attempt to give you adequate personal space. You sat in silence for a moment, but you gathered up the courage to ask him what kind of pancakes he had made for himself. “Banana.” He replied simply. You smiled at his reply, Of course, he definitely seems like a banana pancake type of person. “These are really good Bakugo, how long have you been cooking?” Bakugo glanced at you, an uncharacteristic smile on his face, “Since I was little, my Dad taught me how.” You smiled back at him, “Well that’s great, thank you for cooking for me.” You took your plate and rinsed it, placing yours in the dishwasher and taking Bakugo’s when he was done. Your hands briefly touched during the exchange, leaving you both with slight blushes. As Bakugo went to the door and was tying his sneakers, you gathered up your courage, surprising even yourself, you really did enjoy the time you had spent with Bakugo this morning; You didn’t want this moment between you two to be a one-time thing. “Hey, Bakugo?” You called, fists clenched with nervousness. He turned back to you, cocking his head as a sign for you to continue. “Do you think… Do you think we can do this again sometime? Hang out like this I mean?” Bakugo’s mouth twitched but he didn’t smile fully, instead he turned away, “Maybe.” He replied as he left. You smiled, somehow you knew that maybe, was an enthusiastic “Of course” in Bakugo-speak. You gathered your blanket and headed upstairs, stomach comfortably full, and you had a nice restful nap before class. Bakugo gave you a small wave as he entered the classroom, surprising more than a few people. Later in the day, you were cornered by several of the girls in the class, “What the heck happened between you and Bakugo? He’s never waved at you like that before.” You decided that you’d keep it to yourself for now; no way were you sharing his amazing chocolate chip pancakes with anyone else.

Billy sneaks into steves bedroom but when he gets inside he hears yelling downstairs and that's when he finds out about how steves dad talks to steve
Read this little babey on ye olde ao3
Billy wanted to surprise Steve.
Steve’s parents had come home, which Steve had told Billy while avoiding eye contact, his arms wrapped tightly around his waist.
So Bully figured Steve was just feeling misty about something, and thought he may want to see him. So he climbed up to Steve’s bedroom window, and flung himself inside. He found the room empty, and moved to shut the door.
Just before he could, he heard, yelling.
“You said you were going to work harder.” He went out onto the landing, peeking out from behind the wall. He could see Steve, standing in profile. He was hugging himself, staring at the floor. “Christ, Steven. You’re such an embarrassment.” He could see Steve’s dad cross in front of him, going for the drink he had abandoned on the side table. Steve sniffed. “Don’t you dare cry.”
“I’m sorry, sir. I’m, I’m not.” Billy was seeing red. Why hadn’t Steve told him.
“Don’t be sorry, just fix the problem.”
“Well, I think we should talk about getting me another tutor-”
“No. We got you a tutor. It didn’t help. You are just, irreversibly stupid.” Billy had to leave. He stalked back to Steve’s room, taking care not to slam the door. He was pacing in front of Steve’s bed, absolutely fucking seething.
“Holy shit.” Steve jumped a mile when he saw Billy in his bedroom, shutting the door quickly. He smiled at Billy, and went to embrace him, but Billy dodged it.
“Is he always like that?” Steve’s face fell.
“You, you heard that?”
“Yes, I heard that. Is that how he always talks to you?”
“I mean, yeah, but it’s, it’s no big deal.” Billy gaped at him.
“No big deal? No big deal? It’s a fucking huge deal! Why didn’t you tell me?” Steve was looking back at the floor. Billy huffed, pulling Steve’s arms from around himself, tugging Steve into his own. “He shouldn’t say those things to you.”
“I mean, he’s not exactly wrong-”
“Yes. He. Is. He’s wrong, Steve. You’re not stupid.” Steve just huffed into his shoulder. “You’re not.”
“I just, I failed another test, and I said I’d work harder and I did, I studied so hard, Bill, and I still failed-” he breathed in sharply, and started fucking sobbing into Billy’s shoulder. Billy was fucking stunned. Steve was always trying to be the strong one. His body sagged into Billy, letting him take his weight.
“Hey, hey. C’mon, Stevie. You’re not stupid.” Steve was too busy having a full breakdown to listen to him, so Billy just sat them both down. He rocked him gently, rubbing his back.
“I’m sorry. I just, I know how your dad is, and I, he’s not that bad.” Steve sniffed against his shoulder again, had finally stopped crying.
“Stevie, just because he doesn’t hit you doesn’t mean it’s not bad.”
“But it’s, I just-”
“Baby, abuse is abuse. Don’t matter what form it takes.” Steve took a shaky breath.
“I didn’t, I never thought about it like, like that.”
“I’m sorry, Pretty Boy.” He pressed a kiss to Steve’s head. “Has it, always been like that?”
“Long as I can remember.”
“What so, he was talking like that to you as a fucking, child?”
“I mean, yeah. That’s why, that’s why they’re gone all the time. He says because he, just, he doesn’t like being here to see me being a failure.” Billy squeezed him tighter.
“I’m sorry, Baby. I’m sorry. God, they don’t deserve you. They really had the best person in the whole fuckin’ world right there, and they fuckin’ chucked you away. What assholes.” Steve gave a wet little laugh. “I hate ‘em. Let’s run away.”
“We can’t just, just run away.”
“Why not? I got a car. We can just leave. Kick our asshole dads goodbye.
“Isn’t the phrase kiss?”
“Yeah, but I ain’t kissin’ either of our dads.”
“Good choice.”
“We can just go. I could take you home.”
“California?”
“Yeah, we’ll go to Cali. Get a shitty little apartment by the beach. A cat.”
“Is the cat gonna be fat?”
“Yeah, Baby. It’ll be a chunky little man.”
“And we’ll have big windows, and we’ll keep them open and we’ll be able to smell the ocean all the time.”
“And we can do whatever we want. We could go to school, or not and get terrible jobs that make us tired and angry.”
“We could spend every Sunday naked. And make pancakes and try to keep our fat little cat out of the batter.”
“And you can wear whatever you want, we can go to thrift stores and buy you all kinds of stuff.”
“And we’ll make fun of infomercials at 2 in the morning.”
“We’ll cook food and burn it and order take out instead.”
“And we’ll watch movies on a shitty couch we’ll get second-hand.”
“We’ll watch scary movies, and you’ll get too scared, and you’ll crawl into my lap and I’ll hold you.”
“And we’ll have lots of pillows on the bed, and so many blankets so I won’t get cold at night.”
“But your feet will still be cold because they always are and you’ll put them all over me.”
“So then you’ll start tickling me because you’re a monster that wants me to suffer.”
“And you’ll look at me with those big eyes you know I can’t resist, and we’ll end up making out and then we’ll end up fucking because you’re just too damn sexy for me.”
“You’ll be talking all gross about how loud I am, and how good I feel and our neighbors will hit the wall to make us shut up.”
“And we’ll go to the beach everyday, and watch the sun set over the water.”
“And we’ll hold hands and walk along the boardwalk, and you’ll tell anyone who looks at us funny to fuck themselves.”
“And God, we’ll be so fucking happy.” Billy squeezed Steve just a little bit closer.

every perfect summer
Finn is steady on her own two feet but Niall is a hurricane, determined to bring to the surface what she’s long buried. If only he weren’t so beautiful at sunset, she might be able to resist.

prompt #29: “stop looking at me like that.”
niall/ofc, 6.2k
Summer in California is hot and sticky, the kind of sticky that makes you feel silly showering, because as soon as you walk outside, you’ll be sweaty all over again. Even with the fan on full blast, Finn’s thighs are sticking to the leather of the couch she took from her mom’s house when she moved out. She’s read the same page a hundred times, over and over again. The heat makes it hard to think.
The heat makes it hard to breathe.
And mostly, the heat makes it hard to write.
Finn’s about to put the book down when she hears footsteps on the stairs outside. Her apartment complex is a series of buildings each containing a dozen apartments. Finn shares the landing of her staircase with the apartment next door, but it’s the wrong time of day for Cindy and Ralph to be returning home, which means—
“Your new downstairs neighbor is hot,” Jocelyn announces as the apartment door slams shut behind her, the gust of warm air ruffling the pages of Finn’s book. She looks up to roll her eyes.
“You think every guy is hot.”
Jocelyn dumps her shopping on the kitchen table and scoffs. “I do not. Just the hot ones.”
“Aren’t you engaged?” Finn glances down at the big shiny ring on Jocelyn’s finger to emphasize her point. Even though Jocelyn moved out six months ago, when her boyfriend popped the question, sometimes it feels like she never left. Right now is one of those times. “What’s Marcus think about all this looking you do?”
“What he doesn’t know won’t kill him.” Jocelyn punctuates her statement with a saucy flip of her hair and begins unloading her bags onto the small kitchen counter. She holds up a carton of ice cream. “Should I bother putting this away, or do you want to dive in right now?”
Finn holds her hand out for the rocky road. “You know me so well.”
“You’re welcome.” As Finn digs into the tub of ice cream, Jocelyn begins putting things away in the fridge. “You know,” she says into the veggie drawer, “I’m not kidding about your new neighbor. He’s got this angelic frat boy look to him. Have you met him yet?”
“Yeah,” Finn says. “Last week. He offered to carry a package upstairs for me. Very polite, and totally not my type.”
“Exactly.” Jocelyn sits on the couch with another spoon and slides the ice cream out of Finn’s grasp. “As your older sister, it’s my job to advise you on everything. Starting with your interest in men, which is, to be frank, utter shit.”
Finn opens her mouth to object, but she can’t find fault with Jocelyn’s statement. Her last boyfriend wouldn’t come to any work events with her but insisted she attend all of his art shows. He had an ego the size of the Milky Way to make up for his abysmal lack of talent.
“You need to stop dating those neurotic, artsy types,” Jocelyn continues, “and date a man who can, like, actually kill a spider.”
“I’m perfectly capable of killing my own spiders.” As long as they’re small and not moving, but Finn doesn’t feel the need to share that caveat.
“So am I,” Jocelyn says. “Do you want wine?” She doesn’t wait for Finn to answer before she gets up and goes straight for the cupboard that holds the long-stem glasses. “Anyway, that’s not my point. You need to stop dating boys who look good on paper and start dating men who are good. In real life.”
Finn closes her book so that it doesn’t have to listen to this conversation. She accepts the wine glass from Jocelyn’s outstretched hand and swirls around the liquid within. It doesn’t go with the ice cream, but she’s 25 years old, so that doesn’t matter.
Jocelyn scowls at the closed book. “Virginia Woolf again, Finn? Are you ever going to read anything written in this century?”
Finn rolls her eyes. If there’s one thing her sister excels at, it’s being unsatisfied with all aspects of Finn’s life. “Are you here just to criticize me? Or are we watching ‘The Bachelor’?”
Jocelyn grins, spoon still in her mouth. “Oh, we’re watching ‘The Bachelor.’”
-----
The thing about “The Bachelor,” Finn decides that night as she’s brushing her teeth, is that, for the women involved, the ones competing for the bachelor’s heart, there are no consequences.
Oh, small consequences, sure. Your decision might make somebody else cry, or your heart might be slightly bruised, but at the end of it all, you’ve got thousands of new Instagram followers and you’re famous in your small town and everybody wants to date you, even though you chose, of your own free will, to engage in the skeptical that is a dating game show.
But there are no big consequences, no bad consequences. A few months later and the next season’s airing, and everything you did, every dumb thing you said, every kiss you exchanged—it’s all forgotten.
Maybe that’s the way to go, Finn thinks.
Maybe next year, she ought to audition. She develops the pitch in her head: 25 year old ghostwriter of bestselling romance novels; lives alone in Los Angeles; has been considering, for an entire year, the adoption of a cat; has never been in love.
It’s that last part that would sway them, she thinks. The producers would imagine her doe-eyed and innocent, maybe a bit naive. She’d be pitted against the season’s villain, the girl with dark hair (a visual contrast to Finn’s blond bob) who would stop at nothing to win her man.
“How can she write romance novels when she has never known love?” audiences across America would wonder.
Perhaps the bachelor himself would even inquire. Finn would smile shyly, bat her impossibly long eyelashes up at him, and say something coy like, “You could tutor me.”
Jocelyn would love that. She lives for the drama, for what the editors create in post-production. She doesn’t care that it’s fake.
And every week Finn watches and wonders how she can keep selling love in her books when this show proves, without a doubt, that it doesn’t exist.
-----
The new downstairs neighbor works out in the mornings on his patio. Finn hears his music the next morning, drifting in through her open sliding door, around 8:30 AM. It’s not early enough for her to be justifiably annoyed at him, but she’s annoyed nonetheless, because she’s just sat down at her laptop with the intention of writing something today.
Something. Anything. Words on the page, that’s all she needs.
Instead, she sighs, closing her laptop and crossing the room to the balcony. She slides the door open further, pushes the screen out of the way, and goes outside. When she and Jocelyn first moved in, the balcony was a huge appeal. “Outdoor space!” they’d squealed when they first saw the apartment listed online. But now Finn’s been here for two and a half years, and the balcony is just another space for dust to collect.
It’s directly over Downstairs Neighbor’s patio. Finn looks down through the wooden slats and tries to catch a glimpse at him. She can hear Jocelyn’s voice in her head: He’s hot, right? I told you he was hot!
In truth, though, Finn can’t see much through the small gaps between the planks. She can’t tell if he’s lifting weights or doing jumping jacks or playing a very enthusiastic game of cat’s cradle. He’s definitely grunting, though.
Finn shakes her head, trying not to focus on the noises he’s making, and crosses the balcony. She leans her arms on the railing and looks out over the beauty of Los Angeles. Beauty referring, of course, to the parking lot. Finn can see her car, about thirty feet away, parked beneath an evil tree that drops red berries. It really needs to be washed.
Maybe she should take it today. Maybe today will be the first day in a month that she’s gotten dressed in pants that have a zipper and a button, and she’ll go to the carwash and—
Feeling something crawling on her arm, Finn looks down, and oh, shit, it’s a spider. Not a little spider, not a daddy long legs, but one of those ones that’s big enough where you can see its body. It looks like one of those spiders a little kid draws around Halloween.
Oh, shit. Finn lifts her arm, waving it wildly, trying to shake the spider loose before it bites her and turns her into Spider Woman, and that’s when she throws her mug of coffee into the air.
“Oh, shit,” she says out loud. Time seems to slow as she watches her mug descend, coffee flying everywhere as the cup turns a full 360 degrees before landing with a crack on the concrete below.
“What the fuck?” It’s Downstairs Neighbor.
“Oh, shit,” Finn says again. Which, no doubt, Downstairs Neighbor heard. Oh, shit. That one’s in her head, at least.
She hears a grunt as he, she imagines, lowers his weight to the ground, then the snick of his sliding glass door, then the sound of his front door opening, and then, oh, shit, there he is, standing on the ground, looking at her broken coffee cup.
Oh, shit, Finn thinks again as she drops to her knees, hiding herself from view.
Apparently unsuccessfully, as not thirty seconds later, she hears, “I can see you, ya know.”
Finn rises slowly to her feet and looks down. It’s hard not to admit that Jocelyn was right as she looks down at him, messy hair and blue eyes and muscles visible through his sweaty t-shirt.
“Hi,” she says.
“Hi.” His eyes twinkle, and she knows he’s trying not to laugh at her. “This yours?”
“Yeah. Sorry I interrupted you.”
He laughs then, a light, musical sound that she can feel in her toes. Oh, shit. That’s not good. Finn’s characters feel laughter in their toes, but she certainly doesn’t. Feeling someone’s laughter in her toes is not a real thing, she’s always thought, except, apparently, it is.
“What happened?” he asks.
“There was a spider.”
“A spider.”
Finn nods, cheeks burning. “It was a big spider.”
“You gonna come clean it up?”
Finn nods again. “In a minute.”
“Okay.” He grins up at her and she blushes back.
Finn turns around and goes inside, sliding the door shut behind her, and waits, listening for the sounds of Downstairs neighbor reentering his own apartment, shutting the door, locking it. When a minute has passed without any of that, Finn realizes that he must be waiting for her.
Oh, shit. Finn doesn’t have to be Jocelyn to know that this is not the ideal situation in which one wants to interact with Hot Downstairs Neighbor. But it seems like she doesn’t have a choice, so she slips on the flip flops she keeps by the door and goes downstairs.
He’s still there, standing in the sunshine, squinting when he smiles. “There you are,” he says.
“Here I am.” Finn looks down, surveying the damage. The mug has split into several large chunks, and maybe if Finn were better at diy-ing she’d be able to fix it, but as things stand now, it’s destined for the garbage. “Damn, I really liked that mug.”
“I’ll buy you a new one,” Downstairs Neighbor says, which is such a strange thing to say that Finn startles, turning to stare at him.
“Thanks?” she says.
“You’re welcome.” He smiles, holding out his hand. “I’m Niall.”
Finn accepts the handshake. “I’m Finn.”
His hand is warm and a bit clammy, a bit like California in the summer, and her stomach goes topsy-turvy. She yanks her hand back.
“Nice to meet you,” Niall says. “I guess you’re the neighbor who watches ‘The Bachelor’?”
Jesus Christ, Finn thinks, dropping to a squat. She gathers up the pieces of her destroyed mug and doesn’t answer him. How nosy of him, asking her that. But then, she was the one listening to him work out this morning.
“My sister likes it,” she says. “I’m just along for the ride.”
“Hey, there’s no shame in liking ‘The Bachelor,’” Niall says, dropping down beside her. They reach for the last piece at the same time, hands brushing. Finn draws hers back, trying to ignore the tingling in her fingertips. “Here.”
Finn accepts the final shard. “Thanks,” she says. “And I don’t like ‘The Bachelor.’ I think it’s silly.”
Niall smiles at her again, all teeth and sunshine. “What’s silly about love?”
Finn blinks at him, trying to decide if he’s an idiot or just bad at small talk. Maybe both. “That show is not about love,” she says. “Have you ever seen it?”
“No.” He shakes his head. “But I’ve heard it through the ceiling.”
Jesus Christ, Finn thinks again. What a neighbor. She can’t wait to tell Jocelyn about this, to prove to her that Downstairs Neighbor may be hot, but his positive qualities end there. He’s intrusive and nosy and way, way too good looking.
“You can get back to your workout,” she says, standing up straight. He follows, forcing her to look up to meet his eyes. “Sorry for bothering you.”
“Not a bother,” he says. “It was nice to meet you, Finn.”
“Yep,” she says, offering him a half smile before she turns tail and dashes up the stairs, back to her safe, quiet, Downstairs Neighbor-free apartment. Back to her laptop, and the manuscript due in three months that she hasn’t managed to crack yet. Back to being hot and sweaty inside her apartment, instead of outside.
“Have a good day!” he calls after her. She doesn’t return the greeting.
-----
The next morning, a knock on the door wakes Finn up from a dream, the kind of dream that you know as soon as you wake was a good one, but it’s too late, you’ve forgotten it, and you won’t be able to get it back.
“No,” she mutters, turning over in bed, burrowing into the pillow. “I’m sleeping.” But then the knock sounds again. “Damnit.”
Finn climbs out of bed and reaches for her phone on the nightstand. 8:27 AM on a Wednesday. An acceptable hour for someone to be knocking on the door, she supposes. Except she was up till 1 o’clock trying to make her messy notes into something resembling an outline that could someday (someday soon, she hopes) be a book.
The morning person disturbing her sleep knocks again, eliminating the possibility that it’s just UPS dropping off a package. Finn drops her phone on the bed and makes her way down the hall to the living room, where sunlight blares in so sharply it makes her squint.
“Gah,” she says to herself as she pulls open the door. And then, “Oh, it’s you.”
“It’s me,” Hot Downstairs Neighbor—Niall, Finn corrects herself—says. “UPS dropped off this package at my door, but I think it’s yours.”
Finn looks down at the envelope he’s holding out, but the label is blurry. Oh, shit, her glasses. “If you say so,” she says. “I’d have to grab my glasses to know for sure.”
Niall smiles at her, she thinks, but the details of his face are a bit blurry. “I can wait,” he says. “We should make sure it’s yours.”
Finn frowns at him for a second—He can read, can’t he? Shouldn’t he know if it’s her name on the label?—before deciding that it’s too early for an argument. “Fine, whatever,” she says, turning around and leaving him in the doorway.
That’s where she expects him to stay, but when she returns to the door a minute later with her glasses perched on her nose, he’s inside her apartment, poking around the bookshelves on either side of her television. The package he brought over has been discarded on the coffee table.
Finn ignores him for a second as she picks it up. Yep, it’s definitely hers. It’s a proof of her latest Isobel novel, if she had to guess. But she’s not going to open it now, not with Niall here.
Niall, who is currently nosing around her living room, looking much too closely at things she’d rather he not see.
“What are these?” Niall steps closer to the bookshelf, his eyes scanning the spines. “You read romance novels?”
“Not exactly,” Finn says. Which lie should she tell this time? She has a few prepared: “they’re my sister’s” or “my roommate forgot them when she moved out.” Said roommate is said sister, but for the sake of the lie, that wouldn’t matter. But then the truth slips out. “I write them.”
“You write them?” Niall repeats. He pulls one of the books out, Summer’s Dalliance, about two yoga instructors who find love during a training retreat in the Maldives. “You’re Isobel Soleil?”
Finn can tell from the way Niall says Isobel Soleil that he’s heard of her. Who hasn’t heard of her, these days? Her books are in grocery stores and airport shops and on bestseller lists and there’s a series in development with HBO.
As a ghostwriter, Finn isn’t involved, but she knows the show will help move sales, which means bigger checks, which means maybe, eventually, she can write something she actually cares about.
“Not exactly.” Finn takes the book out of his hand and returns it to its place on the shelf. It’s not as if she’s proud of it. That’s not why she has it out. It’s just a placeholder until she publishes a book she’s actually proud of. “Isobel Soleil isn’t a person. She’s a brand. Her books are written by half a dozen different people. How do you think she can pump them out so quickly?”
“How quickly?”
“Three or four a year.”
“And you wrote all of these?” Niall’s finger runs along the spines. “How many are there? Ten?”
“Eight,” Finn corrects. Eight cheesy, embarrassing, don’t-let-your-mother-see-you-reading-that novels. “But they’re formulaic and simplistic. They’re not… they’re not good.”
Niall shrugs. “They’re not high literature, you mean. Someone reads them, though, right? And the people who read them enjoy them. So who cares if they’re not high literature, Finn?”
Finn swallows the sudden lump in her throat. How has Niall managed to get to the quick of things so, well, quick? “I care, I guess. This isn’t what I imagined I’d be doing when I was little, telling people I wanted to be a writer when I grew up.”
“So write something else,” Niall says.
Finn sighs. She wishes it were that easy. If only she could break out of the mold she’s put herself in and write something else, something that’s not about two people falling in love. If only she could write something she actually believed in.
But she has a contract and a deadline and an agent and an editor on her back, and no choice but to finish this Isobel Soleil novel.
“Maybe next summer,” she says.
Niall considers her, nods. “Speaking of this summer,” he says slowly, like he’s thinking about what he’s going to say as he’s saying it, “I have free tickets to LACMA, and I just moved to town so I don’t know a ton of people. Want to go with me?”
Say yes or no more ice cream, Jocelyn’s voice says in the back of Finn’s mind.
“Sure,” she says. “But you know my secret”—she gestures to the bookshelves—“so now you have to tell me one of yours. So I know you’re not a serial killer or something.”
He smiles at her and, damn, he’s good looking. “I’m a lawyer,” he says. “My new job doesn’t start till August, so I’m working remotely with my old firm until then.”
“That’s not a secret.” Not a secret at all, but a great career for a hero in a romance novel. Finn makes a mental note.
“Okay,” Niall says. He crosses his arms over his chest and leans back, lifting one hand to his chin, a classic thinking pose. “How about this? I’m not from here.”
Finn shakes her head. She’d already guessed that from his accent, a soft, lilting Irish one that makes everything he says sound like a poem. “Not a secret either. You get one more try.”
“One more try!” he says with mock shock. “I’ll make this good, then.”
He thinks and Finn waits, and in the thirty seconds it takes him to come up with a good secret, she wonders what the hell she’s doing, flirting with Hot Downstairs Neighbor in her living room while dressed in her pajamas. Oh, shit, she’s not wearing a bra, is she?
Finn crosses her arms over her chest and considers backing out of this conversation entirely by making something up that will put Niall off and convince him that she’s the worst possible LACMA companion.
But then he says, “I can’t swim,” and that is distracting enough to make her forget everything else.
“You can’t swim?” she asks. “What the hell are you doing in southern California?”
Niall shrugs. His smile makes her insides go wonky. “Maybe you can teach me.” Then he holds out his phone. “Here, give me your number. I’ll text you and we can make plans.”
She obliges, all the while wondering what exactly she’s gotten herself into.
-----
LACMA day comes much quicker than Finn anticipates. When she and Niall first made the plans a week ago, Saturday seemed like ages away. There was so much she was going to do between now and then: repot all of her plants, make bread from scratch, work on her manuscript. But instead, she putters around her apartment, typing words here and there, ignoring how bad they are, and not baking bread.
It’s a waste of a week, and not just because Niall is there, in the back of her mind, the whole time.
Jocelyn’s excited, of course, for LACMA day, and insists on coming over the night before to help Finn select her outfit. Finn keeps reminding her that it’s summer in Los Angeles, so it’s a thousand degrees out and she will melt no matter what she wears, but Jocelyn doesn’t care.
Which is how Finn ends up knocking on Niall’s door on LACMA day dressed in a romper that’s giving her a wedgie, a purse she never carries slung over her shoulder. Jocelyn even forced her to wear lip gloss.
“Lip gloss makes you a different person,” Jocelyn said last night on her way out. “I left you three options. Please wear one.”
“I don’t take advice from the Sweet Valley Twins anymore,” Finn had retorted as she shut the door in Jocelyn’s face.
But she’s wearing the lip gloss anyway. Her hair has already gotten stuck in it three times, and all she’s done is climb down the stairs.
She knocks again, half hoping Niall hasn’t changed his mind and half hoping that he has. If he has, she can go back upstairs, put her pajamas on again, and continue to stare at her blank Word document. But then he opens the door.
“Good morning!” His smile is so bright it makes her squint. “Coffee?”
He holds out a travel mug to her, waiting for her to take it.
“Good morning,” she says after she takes a sip. The coffee is exactly the right temperature and perfectly sweet, which is almost enough to make her smile. “This is good coffee.”
“It’s from Ecuador,” Niall says. He steps out onto the welcome mat and closes the apartment door behind him. “Hold this for me?”
Finn holds his travel mug as he locks the door and turns the knob a couple of times to make sure it’s secure. Then he turns around, his smile lighting up his face.
“Ready?” he asks.
“Ready,” she says, though she’s pretty sure she isn’t.
She learns, over the next few hours, that Niall’s energy is nonstop. He talks constantly during their drive to the museum, talks as they park the car, talks as they ride the elevator to the top floor and begin making their way through the galleries. He tells her where he’s from and where he went to school and what his favorite sports teams are.
And she finds herself talking too. She tells him about her sister and where she went to school and how she got started writing Isobel Soleil novels, and the entire time, she’s taking mental notes about him, about the way he holds doors for her and grins down at her and laughs even when her jokes are barely funny.
This is how the heroes in her novels behave. They are handsome and well-meaning and have substantial life goals. They are polite and conscientious and make the heroines feel brave and important and valued. And that’s how Finn finds herself feeling: like if she had something to say, Niall would listen to it.
After the museum, they stop for lunch at a restaurant Finn found on Yelp as they were leaving the parking structure. It’s small and bright inside, but as Niall pulls out Finn’s chair for her, it occurs to her, for the first time, that this might actually be a date.
Jocelyn had said as much last night, but Finn had ignored her, as she does with most things Jocelyn says. But now, seated across from Niall, with nowhere to look but at him, reality dawns, and it’s blinding.
But, she decides, she won’t address it, and she carries on with the meal as if they are recent acquaintances and neighbors, which is, she reminds herself, exactly what they are.
-----
After LACMA day, Niall texts Finn about the movie he’s watching, and she imagines she can hear it through the floor. Later that evening, he texts her good night, and then, the next day, he texts her good morning. The next weekend, they go to Venice Beach together, and they see a movie in a classic theater downtown the following Tuesday. That night, he comes over for dinner, and they cook together, finding their way around each other in Finn’s small kitchen.
And all of a sudden, this summer is different, hot and sticky like all the others, but different because this summer has Niall.
Niall on the couch, bare feet up on the coffee table, listing all the reasons that golf is superior to all other sports.
Niall in the passenger’s seat of her car, singing along to the radio even when he doesn’t know the words, the sun setting behind him, lighting him up as if it’s saying, “Look, he’s beautiful.”
And he is beautiful. Niall in her thoughts, Niall on the back of her eyelids when she blinks, Niall in her dreams. Niall, beautiful.
And Niall in her manuscript, try as she might to keep him out. In sticking with the proposal she made to her editor back in the spring, she’s writing about a doctor and an artist who meet when they’re sharing a wall in a duplex summer rental on the coast of Oregon. By midsummer, she’s written thirty thousand words, enough to reassure her editor that she’s still writing, that things are fine, and, upon rereading, she realizes that the doctor has become Niall.
The doctor, so sure of himself, driven and determined and sexier than any other hero she’s ever written. He is confident and has beautiful eyes and magic fingers, and the heroine, the artist, is head over heels in love with him before she’s even thought to like him.
And the artist. Finn is the artist, the confused, prideful creative soul who doesn’t want love, is afraid of it, just wants to be left alone. But now she has the lawyer, the beautiful, handsome, intelligent, lovely lawyer who makes her want to stop hiding. He makes her want to feel things. He makes her want to reach out for him, to push her fears aside and let her have what she wants.
July brings that realization and an unseasonal thunderstorm that forces Finn to bring out a bucket and email her landlord about that leak in the roof from December that still hasn’t been fixed. That’s a momentary distraction, at least, from thoughts of Niall, thoughts of Niall that are plaguing her every moment. Awake, asleep, Niall. Always Niall.
It’s thundering overhead when there’s a knock at her door. She opens it, and there he is, like she’s conjured him.
“I brought wine,” he says, holding out the bottle.
“Come in,” she says. She thinks of how much has changed since she sat on her couch a month ago, drinking wine with Jocelyn. She wishes, for a moment, that she could go back. But then she looks at Niall again.
And she doesn’t want to look away, like the artist doesn’t want to look away from the doctor. When you find something this perfect, why would you ever look away? Why would you let it go?
Finn knows from experience, though, that sometimes you don’t get to choose when people leave. Sometimes they leave you, aching and cold and alone. Sometimes it’s not up to you.
“Come in,” she says again. She grabs two wine glasses from the kitchen and joins Niall in the living room, where they sit on the couch, thighs pressed together, and he picks a movie for them to watch.
She isn’t paying attention, though, as she downs two glasses of wine and wonders if Niall will kiss her tonight. She’d like him to, she decides, just as much as she doesn’t want him to. It’s like the Schroedinger’s cat of kisses—if they never kiss, she will never know the kiss, but she will also never know what happens after it. She will never know if they go further, if they stop abruptly, if he breaks her heart and leaves her in pieces, smashed on the concrete like her broken coffee mug.
But she will also never know if it will be beautiful, like the loves of the characters in her novels, characters who risk their hearts when they don’t know what the outcome will be. The difference between Finn and Niall and the artist and the doctor, though, is that Finn can control the artist and the doctor. She can decide their ending, she can choose the words for the last page.
And maybe, with Niall, she doesn’t want a last page.
Two hours later, Finn is wine-drunk and sitting on the floor, her back pressed against the couch. Niall is next to her, the table pushed away from them to accommodate his long legs. She leans her head on his shoulder, thinking, in the way only a wine-addled mind will allow, that she’d like to keep this night forever, seal it into a locket and wear it around her neck.
“Tell me again why you don’t like your books,” Niall says. He has her newest proof in front of him on the table. It’s littered with post-it notes, changes Finn would’ve made to it had she had more time. But it’s too late now, and it will print as is.
“They’re not good,” Finn says, her go-to explanation. “I can do better.”
Niall shakes his head. “But they are good. I read Sunshine in Your Mouth, and it’s good. You’re a good writer, Finn.”
“Oh, no.” Finn ducks, covering her face with her arms. “You read it? I can’t believe you read it.”
“Yeah, I did.” Niall tugs her arm away from her face. “Stop hiding from me.”
Oh, if only he knew how apt that statement was, then maybe he wouldn’t say it. Finn puts her arms down and refills her wine glass. She knows she shouldn’t drink any more, but maybe if she does, she’ll stop thinking about how blue Niall’s eyes are and how soft his fingers feel against her arm.
“Tell me the truth,” Niall says, thumbing the post-its in her proof copy. “Why don’t you like being Isobel Soleil?”
“Because I’m not her. I’m not like her. I just don’t believe in love,” Finn tries to explain. “It’s like—”
Niall laughs. “Love’s not like the tooth fairy, Finn. You don’t have to have felt it to know it’s real.”
Finn looks at him, at his soft cheeks and his pink lips and his messy hair. In another life, in another version of this world, maybe she and Niall have known each other forever, since they were kids. And maybe Finn loves Niall. Maybe she always has. Maybe they fit. Maybe it’s the easiest thing this other Finn’s ever felt.
But the Finn that lives in this world, the one sitting on the floor of her apartment with her knees pulled to her chest and a half-empty wine glass in her hand—this Finn doesn’t feel things easily. Feelings are heavy and feelings hold you back and feelings stick around long after the people who brought them on are gone.
“My parents,” Finn says, “they got divorced when I was five.”
“Finn, you don’t have to—”
“It’s fine,” Finn says. The wine is talking now. The wine and the smell of Niall’s shampoo and the plunk plunk plunk of rain hitting the bucket on the kitchen floor. “My dad was sleeping with his secretary. Such a cliche, right? And it took my mom years to leave him. Years. He was sleeping with his secretary while my mom was pregnant with me. She kept thinking he’d stop, that he’d finally realize that he loved her, that he loved his family. She kept waiting, until she couldn’t anymore.”
Finn feels Niall’s fingers brush against hers where they rest on the rug. “That’s why you don’t believe in love?”
“No.” Finn closes her eyes, her head tilting back against the sofa cushion. “That’s why I don’t let myself feel it.”
“Finn.”
She doesn’t answer as Niall moves closer. Eyes closed, she can feel him entering her personal space, can feel the heat of his hand as he takes her wine glass, hears the clink of glass on wood as he puts it on the table. Feels his fingers on her cheek as he tucks a strand of hair behind her ear.
“Finn. Look at me.”
So she does, opens her eyes and meets his, and it’s too much, it’s all too much, the way he’s looking at her like he can see her feelings, can read them as if they were written across her forehead.
“Stop looking at me like that,” she says, her voice barely above a whisper.
He smiles. “Like what?”
“Like you like me.” The words are out before she can stop them, slipping from her lips like a sigh.
“Finn.” He’s closer now, impossibly close, his hand on her cheek. “Finn, I more than like you.”
“I—” Finn starts, but she doesn’t know what to say.
She doesn’t know what this feeling is, the one taking over her chest and spreading to her stomach and traveling up her throat all the way to her eyeballs. It’s a headache and nausea at the same time, plus a sense of doom in her stomach, maybe the unconscious realization that this can’t last forever.
Because feelings never do. Niall likes her now, likes her a lot, likes her enough to maybe kiss her against her dirty car in the parking lot fifty feet from their building. But that won’t last. He’ll like her for a bit and then he’ll like her less and less until nothing remains but the memory of the fire that used to burn, a bit of leftover smoke drifting skyward.
And that’s when it will hurt.
This will hurt, Finn thinks, but she jumps anyway.
“Then kiss me,” she says.
So he does, and in his kiss, for as long as it lasts, she lets herself feel everything: lets herself feel the sticky heat of summer and the sticky heat of a love so big it sucks you under, leaves you breathless, makes you hold on tight.
She slides her hand into his hair and thinks, I will hold on tight.
When it’s over, Niall pulls back, leans his forehead on hers. He’s breathing heavy when he says, “I’ve been wanting to do that for ages.”
“I want to do it again,” Finn says. She slides her fingers under the collar of his shirt.
Niall’s hand tightens on her waist. “Is that the wine talking?”
Finn shakes her head. “No,” she says. “It’s me. And I more than like you, too.”
Niall grins, bright and beautiful. “Good,” he says. “You’re my perfect summer.”
He leans in to kiss her again, and Finn decides, in that split second before their lips meet, that even if all she gets with Niall is a summer, it will be beautiful and it will be perfect, the stuff of novels. The stuff of her novels.
But, something in her gut tells her, Niall will be around for more than a summer.
He does live right downstairs, after all.

The girl of the 12, Grimmauld Place
Hey guys! Here is a Fred imagine!
I have to say I’m quite proud of this one, it’s a bit longer than what I’m used to but I really like it. Plus I’ve discovered I’m a sucker for Wolfstar in the role of the protective fathers and it gave me another idea. I don’t know yet if it will be a series or just very long but I can ensure you our dear Sirius and Remus will be there! (and it will be angsty but you don’t need to know it right now)
I guess I can say there’s a light mention of sex but really nothing shocking.
Anyway as usual feel free to give me feedbacks, and I hope you’ll enjoy!

The night was cold for a June night. The skin of my arm was bare but the occasional goosebumps were nothing compared to my tremors of fear. I was holding firmly my wand, in fact, I held it as if my life depended on it. Which was truer than ever.
A few hours earlier, my life was totally normal. Well, as normal as it could be for the daughter of two members of the American part of the Order of the Phoenix obsessed with revenge. My parents were both locked in an office arranged especially for whatever concerned the former Death Eaters, probably mumbling incoherent things they were the only ones to understand, and I was in my room, staring into emptiness while daydreaming about futile things when everything had begun. I didn’t know when the Death Eaters had intruded our house, nor did I know how they had managed to do it, but I had understood something was wrong the moment my father had screamed. I had quickly grabbed my wand and made my way downstairs, having good sense enough to stay hidden despite my fear. The four men hadn’t had any difficulty to kill both my parents, and I had heard one of them shouting the others to come upstairs find me. My heartbeat had increased at an incredibly speed and I had done the first thing I had thought about: getting out by the window. With a wave of my wand, I had freed the tiny bird my parents kept in a little cage in case of emergency (“It will know where to go if something bad happens.” My father had assured me.)
And now, I was walking at a constant speed, always glancing above my shoulder to make sure I wasn’t followed and cursing because I was unable to apparate. I had been raised like a soldier, yet my parents had never thought it would be useful for me to be able to apparate. I groaned and turned in another empty street of the neighborhood without history of the suburbs around New-York. The neighbors would gossip for sure.
A cat ran between my legs and I jumped, ready to cast a spell. I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know what the bird would do, and I didn’t know what the Death Eaters would do. It was a lot of unknown. Suddenly, I heard a pretty melody. Looking up, I saw the red bird I had freed half an hour earlier. It landed on my shoulder, repeating once more its song, and vanished as quickly as it had came. Roughly three seconds later, I heard a soft pop and Remus Lupin was standing in front of me.
Remus was the only British I knew. My parents had been close to him and his friends - the Marauders, if I remembered correctly - one of them being my mother’s half brother. It was her favourite tragic story to tell, how her beloved Peter along with James and Lily Potter had been betrayed by this awful Sirius Black. Remus was the only one who had bothered to come in America to see my parents and me, and I had seen him a few times in my life. He had always seemed quite sick and tired, but it was nothing compared to what he looked like tonight. I glanced at the sky - yes, almost the full moon. I knew about Remus’ secret, he had told me about it when I had asked him why he had scars when I was seven. I had never been afraid of him, he was the only one I could consider like a friend.
“Y/N, what happened?”
His voice was quiet, and he grabbed my arm.
“My parents are dead. Death Eaters. How is it possible?”
Remus groaned. In a few words, he managed to explain me what had happened in England the day before. It looked like the 24th of June would stay in the world’s memory as the day He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named had returned.
A few hours passed - the time for Remus to summon a Portkey and contact Albus Dumbledore with a bird like the tiny red one. I was now in front of the safest place for me, in Remus’ words.
“Welcome to the Order Headquarters, Y/N.”
The 12, Grimmauld Place was quite a strange house. Its facade was completely run-down and the windows were dirty. I had imagined a lot of things for the Order of the Phoenix, but not this. Remus had told me about the Secret Keeper, that it was protected with strong spells, but after entering, I was pretty sure it was useless. Who would approach these giant cobwebs and this awful portrait screaming whereas I had just hit the umbrella stand?
I followed Remus in a long corridor and he gently pushed me into a big living-room. Three persons were here, but I only recognized one: Sirius Black. I groaned and narrowed my eyes. My mother had told me a lot about him, how he was the biggest git at school, how is family was the typical pure-blood-and-proud-to-be family, how is own brother had been a Death Eater. I had learnt to hate him just because my parents did. He had massacred Peter and was the very first one to breakout from Azkaban.
“Y/N, we have a lot to explain you.” murmured Remus. He was looking carefully at me, maybe he feared I would explode or worse - cry in front of them. “But I guess it can wait if you want.”
“No, I want to know everything.” My voice was secure, without an ounce of sadness. It obviously surprised him. “You know I had never been really close to them.”
Remus nodded.
“In a first time, let me introduce you to Alastor Moody,” a scary man with a magical eye nodded abruptly, “Nymphadora Tonks -”
“Just Tonks.” She had bright pink hair and smiled softly at me.
“And Sirius Black. No, he’s not a murderer.” Remus added quickly. “As I said, we have a lot to explain.”
Long story short, Peter was the git of the story. He had betrayed James and Lily Potter, condemning them to death, before fleeing. Sirius had tried to kill him, yes, but he had failed, and the coward had faked his own death. He was the one to help He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, it was because of him he was back, and probably because of him my parents were dead. Quite ironical, wasn’t it? Then he had processed to explain what had happened during the Triwizard Tournament, and now, Remus had finished his story, and I felt four pairs of eyes on me.
“That doesn’t explain why they have killed my parents.” I said.
“I guess they haven’t been as discreet as they thought. Now that You-know-who is back, maybe his followers will feel free to attack everyone who’s against them.” suggested Remus.
“Anyway, you’re safe here, Y/N.” said Sirius. I nodded and yawned. “Let me show you your room.”
I followed him without a word. He gestured me to stay silent in the corridor, obviously not wanting to wake the portrait up. We climbed the stairs, ran into an ugly house elf and finally reached a room I could actually sleep in.
“I guess your parents have only told you what an abominable man I am.”
I nodded.
“You know, Y/N, back at Hogwarts, I really liked your parents.” Sirius’ voice was strangely emotional. “I remember when they had announced they would be parents. Yes, I’ve seen you when you were just a baby. In fact, I have seen you regularly during two years, until… Their death.” His eyes darkened. “I won’t tell you I’m sorry, I know what you’re feeling. I’ve never really liked my family, you know. I’m nothing like them. I just wanted you to know it.”
Sirius turned his heels. I decided I trusted him.
“Sirius?” He turned toward me, clearly surprised. “One day, do you think you and Remus could tell me some stories about your Hogwarts years? It seems pretty fun.”
He smiled, and for a brief moment, I saw a younger man. A man whose life hadn’t been destroyed unfairly.
Thinking my life in England would be more entertaining than it was in America was undoubtedly a big mistake. Indeed, the next morning, I was eating some eggs when Alastor Moody arrived while muttering. It seemed to be his only way to communicate, and I was almost surprised to hear a true sentence.
“Look at that.”
He threw a newspaper on the table in front of me. A photography occupied the front page. It showed a girl that looked vaguely like me, but her hair were longer than mine, her face was rounder and her teeth - God, it was horrible. Above the photo, a title in bold caught my eyes: Y/N Y/L/N, a dangerous murderer. Underneath that was written Reward for whoever give us her localisation. It was ridiculous. I quickly scanned the article. Killer. Muggles and children. Psychopath.
“What the hell is that?”
Remus was behind me, his eyes fixed on the photo.
“I think it’s the proof we were looking for.” answered Moody. In front of my interrogative look, he added: “We know for sure the Ministry is infiltrated.”
I had spent my first week here hidden in a room, only joining the others when I was hungry or when someone dragged my downstairs. I was in the same boat as Sirius now, wanted for something I had never done and forced to stay in this horrible house. I was pretty sure I would kill someone if I heard once more the portrait of Sirius’ mother screaming me insults.
I was currently in the same room as Buckbeak, a beautiful hippogriff, when my stomach started to rumble. I decided to sneak into the kitchen, hoping I wouldn’t run into Kreacher, the ugly house elf. I tried my best to be quiet and I was on the verge of entering the kitchen when I heard my name in a conversation.
“Sirius, have you seen Y/N today?” It was Remus. He had been really worried about me since my arrival, and he didn’t like me being alone all the time. I guessed he didn’t want to force me, maybe he thought I needed time. It wasn’t totally a lie.
“Who is Y/N?” I didn’t know the woman who had spoke.
“The Y/L/N’s daughter.” answered Sirius. “They are dead.”
The woman gasped.
“The poor girl! And you let her alone?”
I rolled my eyes. I didn’t need anyone to worry about me, thanks. I showed myself, passing in front of a plump woman with ginger hair. I ignored everyone, grabbed some sandwiches on the table and left without a word. I thought I could join Buck’s room without seeing anyone, and I groaned loudly when I came face to face with three boys and a girl, all of them having the same ginger hair as the woman in the kitchen. Two of them were twins.
“Look who’s also in this fantastic house!” It was one of the twins. “Why is a cutie like you here?”
His face when I forced my way between him and his twin without answering was priceless. I quickly gained Buckbeak’s room and enjoyed the silence. Two hours later, the door opened and Sirius sat next to me.
“Our guests are quite offended,” he laughed. “Fred wants you to think he’s blubbering right now. If you want my opinion, he wants your attention.”
“How long are they gonna stay?”
“Until September.”
I groaned, and Sirius chuckled. He patted my shoulder, telling me diner would be ready soon, and left. I sighed, I knew I didn’t have the choice. I left the room and came downstairs. The kitchen was way more animated than usual. The woman I had seen earlier was there, preparing something that smelled really good, along with her children. Sirius was talking with Remus and Mad-Eye Moody while Nymphadora Tonks - who wanted to be called just Tonks - was listening to a man with ginger hair - again? I caught a glimpse of the twins standing in the corner of the kitchen. It looked like they didn’t want anyone to interrupt, so I walked straight toward them.
“I thought you were crying like a baby because of me.”
One of the twins smirked. He was slightly smaller than his brother, and I was pretty sure he was Fred.
“Why, love, were you worried?”
“No, darling, I just wanted to tell you that you look cute when you’re offended.”
He laughed frankly, and a sparkle appeared in his eyes. I had to admit he was quite cute when he laughed too.
“I’m Fred, and this is George.”
“I’m Y/N Y/L/N.”
Fred and George exchanged a surprised look.
“Don’t ask: yes, I’m a dangerous murderer and yes, if you bother me, I’ll kill you.”
I turned the heels and sat next to Remus without hearing Fred mumbling “I like her.”
The next day, the woman with ginger hair, Molly Weasley, came in my room and woke me up.
“Hello dear, how did you sleep?”
“Well, thank you Mrs Weasley.” She scoffed, not wanting me to call her that. I had understood that quite well after the fiftieth time she had told me so the previous day, but what do you want, old habits die hard.
“Sirius wanted me to tell you he needs to see you.”
I nodded in agreement and quickly put on a jumper, it was an unusually cold morning. I followed her downstairs and ran into Fred and George. They were arguing with their father.
“Why can’t we stay? We’re adults now!” protested George.
“Because your mother thinks you’re still too young. Don’t argue, George, you neither, Fred, and go to your room!”
They sighed a bit too loud for it to be natural and finally left the living-room where the meeting would take place. Fred winked at me and followed his brother. When I entered the room, I came face to face with a man I had never seen before. He was wearing a black robe and had oily black hair, but what I saw first was his big crooked nose. We looked at each other a few seconds and I looked away only when Sirius coughed. He put an arm around my shoulder and dragged me away, not without glaring at the man. I couldn’t help but notice two things: first, a true hatred had arisen from the man as soon as Sirius had arrived, second, Sirius had stood straighter and lifted his chin.
“It’s Severus Snape.” he murmured me. “A total creep.”
“Why aren’t you besties then?” I smirked.
“I’m afraid my hair will become like his if I stay next to him for too long.”
I rolled my eyes. However, my smile faded when I saw how worried Remus looked. He was frowning and his grin seemed a bit too forced when he saw me.
“Y/N, how are you?” His tone was too cheerful. Yep, something was wrong.
“I could ask you the same question.” I eyed him suspiciously. He promptly looked away.
I asked Sirius what was happening and he shrugged. Now that I thought about it, Molly had seemed worried too, but she was nowhere to be seen. A regular noise indicated me Mad-Eye was approaching.
“Y/L/N, can I talk to you for a minute?” I nodded. “Soon we will send you back to America for a mission. You don’t have to know the details for now. I will talk to you about it later.”
Even if a lump was forming in my throat, I nodded once more and hurriedly headed toward the door to leave the living-room. No one followed me; the meeting had probably begun and that meant I wasn’t needed anymore. I was on the verge of running upstairs when I stop dead in my tracks. You’re going crazy my dear Y/N. An ear was floating in the air. I saw it rising, my mouth wide open, when I heard muffled voices from upstairs. Sighing and rolling my eyes - it was another of my bad habits - I dragged myself to my room. I stopped when I heard Fred’s voice.
“Y/N has the right to stay for the meetings,” he mumbled. “I wonder why she can and not us.”
“Because her parents didn’t forbid her to.” I had never heard this voice. Maybe it was from the twins’ brother.
“Have you seen them? Her parents?” It was a girl voice, probably their sister.
“No, you’re right. You know what, maybe we can ask her to tell us what happens in the meetings?”
“Yes, Ron, obviously no one has told her not to tell anything.” It was George.
“I’m sure we can make her talk.” Fred’s voice was now cheerful. “I’m sure with a little Tickling Charm -”
I decided to open the door. Clearly surprised, the four siblings turned simultaneously their heads toward me. Their mouths were slightly opened, they looked like fishes. Stupid fishes, might I add.
“It wouldn’t work Fred, I hate tickles.”
“What a shame.” he replied. “Are you here to tell us everything you know?”
“No way.” I saw the boy who had to be Ron frowning. “I’m here to tell you to be more careful when you try to spy on the meetings. I’ve seen the ear.”
“I told you it wasn’t a good idea!” hissed the girl.
“Don’t worry, I’m the only one.” I add. I winked at Fred, quite happy to see him smile at me, and I left.
“Wait!”
I let the door of my room open and sat on my bed, looking curiously at Fred. He passed an hand in his hair, ruffling it a bit, and joined me.
“You seem upset.”
It wasn’t a question, and I didn’t deny. Of course I was upset. I didn’t want to go back to America. I hated this country and I hated the memories I had there.
“Why do you think I’m upset?”
“Your eyes seem darker, and your smile isn’t the same either.”
It was scary, how well he could understand me. It was the very first time someone saw through my armor, and I wasn’t sure how I had to react.
“You can trust me.” Fred added softly.
“They want me to go back to America for a mission but…”
“You don’t want to, right?”
I nodded. Fred slowly put an arm around my shoulder and, seeing I didn’t push him away, he pulled me against him. I enjoyed this embrace and after a few moments, I put my arms around him. None of us talked or moved, we were just melting in this hug.
“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to.” He murmured in my ear. I sighed sadly.
“I don’t have the choice.”
“Or you murder everyone.” His tone was playful and when I raised an eyebrow at him, he pretended to be deadly serious. “No one could force to go anywhere.”
“That means I would have to murder you too, right?”
“You wouldn’t do that.” He seemed pretty confident.
“And why?”
“I bet you’re a little angel behind this facade of sarcasm.”
After this day, I grew closer to the Weasley siblings, but I had something way more special with Fred. He just seemed to know me perfectly even though we knew each other for barely two weeks. Molly was lovely with me, but I wasn’t sure it was because of my friendship with her children. She acted like a mother to me, and I had to admit it was new for me. My own mother had never been particularly tender or loving with me, neither had been my father. Our interaction consisted in homeschooling and training with plenty of spells, along with the history of the Order and of course, the life of Peter Pettigrew. That was it. I had never really left the house I had grown in, and the only person other than my parents I knew back there was Remus.
That’s why having a family as loud and joyous as the Weasley family was strange, but I couldn’t say it displeased me. The only thing bothering me in this new life was the Weasley siblings’ obsession with what happened during the meetings. I hadn’t had news about my mission yet, but I had to stay to describe the surroundings of my house and how was the American part of the Order.
However, I never assisted to the meetings until their ends, and when I had to leave the living-room, I usually joined Fred, George, Ginny and Ron in the twins’ room. Today was no exception: Molly had hurriedly gestured me toward the door - she didn’t like at all my implication in the meetings - and I quickly climbed the stairs. When I opened the door, I immediately felt Fred’s look on me.
“It was an important meeting today, wasn’t it?”
“Yes, it was, and no, you won’t know anything.”
He sighed and I mimicked him. He was cute and kind, and very funny, but he was also irritating as fuck when he wanted to.
“Why won’t you say anything?” It was George. “We need to know.”
“Trust me, you don’t want to know.” I replied. “And your mother would kill me if I even told you on which chair Moody sits.”
“We don’t care about Mum!” Ginny lost her temper. “This is too important, we need to know everything Y/N! Why can’t you understand this?”
“Why can’t you understand Molly wants to protect you?” I felt my blood boiling in my veins, not a good sign. “She loves you. You can’t blame her for loving you, you don’t have the right!” I had screamed the last words and the four ginger heads in front of me stared at me in shock. I didn’t know why, but I felt like the next article about me in the Daily Prophet would be perfectly justified. “Why do you want so badly to know?” My voice was quieter. “These people I see during the meetings, each member of the Order, everyone is threatened. You know what happened to my parents, right?” Their guilty looks gave me my answer. “As soon as the war will start, we will be on the front line, maybe all of us will die. Why would you want to be a part of this? Trust me, you should run away, not rush into the battle. At least I would know you’re normal.”
A silence followed my last words, and I caught myself hoping they were convinced. Note to self: never think Fred can be serious if the situation isn’t immediately life-threatening.
“We’re quite proud to say we’re not normal.” He had a big grin.
“Idiot.” I muttered.
He stood up and walked toward me. I knew I was supposed to be angry at him, but when he opened his arms in front of me, I couldn’t help but throw my arms around his neck. It felt too good to be here, it felt right.
“I promise we won’t bother you with that anymore.” His voice was muffled by my hair. I heard the floorboards creaking and the door softly closing. We were alone. “Can I ask you something, Y/N?” I nodded. “Were you close to your parents?”
“I think you know the answer.”
He sighed, and I reluctantly looked him in the eyes. I didn’t want to see the pity I always saw in Remus’ eyes, or in Molly’s. To my surprise, it wasn’t the case. Fred had the same look in his eyes as Sirius, which I saw like a  it’s-sad-to-know-you-weren’t-close-to-them-but-I-swear-I-won’t-bother-you-to-death-with-that-and-I’ll-try-to-make-you-forget-that look.
Our faces were only inches apart, and not really knowing why I did that, I grabbed his face and kissed him. His lips were softer than I had imagined. My hands slowly made their way to his neck and to his hair. Our lips were moving in sync and muffled groans escaped our mouths. I felt my heartbeat increasing and way too soon, I ran out of breath. We reluctantly broke the kiss, keeping our foreheads pressed against each other, and I couldn’t help but smile brightly.
“You’re a good kisser, Fred.”
“You’re not too bad yourself, Y/N.”
I was quite happy Sirius hadn’t the same way to make me forget, it would have been awkward.
I was really comfortable with the new kind of relationship I had with Fred, but I didn’t know how to tell Remus. The guy had always acted like a father to me, even back in America where he would bring me chocolate each time he visited us. And I had a feeling he wouldn’t be overjoyed by what I had to tell him. Fred understood perfectly my state of mind, obviously not really wanting everyone to know either. We had never spoken a word about it, yet we had both kind of agreed we would hide our relationship, for a little while anyway. That resulted in us sneaking into every room of the house and snogging as long as we could, until one of us was needed and our name echoed in the corridors.
George had been the first one to become suspicious, and he figured it out approximately two hours after our first kiss. From this point - and after a pretty convincing threat from Fred and I - he had promised not to tell everyone and to help us keeping the secret. He usually lied well and was able to cover us long enough for us to appear reasonably presentable. Unfortunately, swollen lips were difficult to hide. I guess that’s why Ginny soon understood what was happening, and Ron couldn’t stay oblivious when his sister was constantly joking about a certain leech unable to let me alone. Molly had become quite suspicious too, but the incredible thing was that Remus hadn’t any clue of what was happening. Sirius had begun teasing me the day the Weasleys had arrived, it had never really changed.
Fred and I both wanted to keep this a secret, but that didn’t prevent us from touching each other. We were always sitting next to each other during the diner, and when we couldn’t hold hands, we just made our knees or our elbows enter in contact. Fred winked at me approximately a dozen of times per day, and each second we could spend alone was used very wisely. However, a sort of tension was building itself between us. It wasn’t the bad kind of tension, it was the intimate kind. When we were alone and kissing, our hands moved more and more, and our bodies were closer and closer. I discovered a new kind of need, the one that was felt deep inside me, I needed to feel him closer to me. And I could tell that Fred was thinking exactly the same.
I was sitting in front of my opened window. The fresh air of the night was slightly caressing my face as I was thinking about Fred. Again. God, what had he done to me? I was unable to get him out of my head. I groaned and sat on the floor, the back resting against the wall. I was simply unable to sleep, and unfortunately, the sparkle in Fred’s eyes and his soft hair weren’t the only thing preventing me from sleeping. Mad-Eye had told me, a few hours ago, that I would soon receive the details about my mission in America. I wouldn’t admit it, never - I had a reputation of murderer to preserve, after all - but I was terrified. I wanted nothing more than forget about this part of my life. It wasn’t perfect right now either, I was locked up all day in this house, but I had parental figures that loved me - Remus, Molly and even Sirius, I had friends and I had a wonderful boyfriend. It was closer to perfection that it had never been.
I knew I wouldn’t sleep, and I decided to be a bit selfish. Fred and I almost hadn’t seen each other this day and I missed him. I got out of my room, tiptoeing to avoid this creepy house elf and I made my way to the twins’ room. They weren’t sleeping, I could hear their muffled voices. I slowly opened the door and, after the second of shock, they both smiled at me and Fred extended an arm. I sat on his lap, snuggling up with him and vaguely listening to them.
Eventually, George yawned and announced us he would go to sleep.
“Don’t do anything nasty while I’m here.” He winked.
“Don’t worry, we’ll find another room for tonight.” Answered Fred.
I smiled and grabbed his hand, leading him out. We barely heard George’s comment (“Try not to wake everyone up!”) and I was going to join my room when Fred stopped me.
“No, love, follow me.”
We climbed the stairs and I noticed he had two pillows and blankets under his arm. We choose one of the room of the top floor and sneaked in. With a wave of his wand, Fred lighted a fire in the chimney and he put the blankets on the floor, one laid out and the others stashed next to the first one, in front of the now burning fire. Then he turned toward me and put his hands around my waist. He slowly leaned in and kissed me.
“Are you sure you want to do it?” His voice was a whisper.
I nodded, I didn’t want anything more than to feel him against me in the most intimate way possible. We shared another kiss, and another, and we slowly undressed each other. We laid on the blanket without breaking the kiss, both naked and discovering our bodies in a new way. This night was full of love and full of trust, Fred and I weren’t just two young adults hiding and snogging, we were now two lovers.
My head was resting against his torso, and his heartbeat slowly becoming normal again was the sweetest melody to me. We were still naked and laying on the blanket, Fred’s head resting on the pillows. His arms were around me and I was literally laying on him. A comfortable silence took place, only disturbed by the crackling sounds of the fire. A shiver ran down my spine. Fred grabbed a blanket and covered me.
“Better?” he whispered.
“Perfect.”
He chuckled, and the vibration in his chest seemed to echo in mine.
“Fred, can I ask you something?”
“Of course, love.”
“Promise you won’t laugh.”
Without seeing him, I could tell he was raising an eyebrow and a smirk was on his lips.
“I will try, but I can’t promise.”
I sighed, knowing my question would seem quite strange, but I was imagining a perfect life and I needed him to help me.
“What is it like to go to school?”
Much to my surprise, Fred didn’t laugh. He didn’t let out a sarcastic or incredulous comment, he just tightened his grip on me and kissed my hair.
“You’ve never been to school?”
I shook my head. He sighed sadly, probably imagining a little girl locked up in a cold house, her parents only teaching her the strict necessary, an unhappy girl only dreaming to have friends and be normal. He wasn’t really wrong.
“Whatever we say, going to school is incredible,” he started. “especially if you go to Hogwarts. That’s where I go. You live with your friends, you can do everything with them. Eating your breakfast, playing Quidditch, sneaking into the kitchen for the parties -”
“Is it even allowed?” I laughed.
“Well, you’re missing the point.” He chuckled. “And as cliche as it sounds, it’s the most magical way to learn. Sometimes, you miss your house and your parents, along with your siblings if they aren’t with you, but your friends in there, they are your second family. You would do anything for them, and they would do anything for you, even going to detention. And even detentions are fun if you’re with the good persons. And you can explore each corner of the school and live wonderful adventures.”
Fred stopped, obviously feeling my tears on his bare skin. He murmures apologies and stroke my hair.
“I’m sorry Y/N, I shouldn’t have -”
“No Fred, thank you. Now I can imagine my perfect life.” I murmured.
“Am I a part of it?”
“Of course you are.”
And I fell asleep.
The castle towers were illuminated by the sunset. The sky had taken a bright red tone, and a sweet breeze ruffled our hair. Fred was in front of me, running slow enough for me to follow and holding my hand. We were in a park, surrounded by huge trees. The air was fresher here, and the grass underneath my bare feet was soft. Some birds were still up there and singing for us. It was truly perfect.
Suddenly Fred stopped and turned toward me. His eyes were shining, he had this sparkle that showed every time he was happy.
“Ready for our adventure, my love?”
I opened my mouth, eager to tell him I would follow him everywhere, but it wasn’t clearly not my voice that echoed in the peaceful atmosphere of the forest.
“What the -”
A sudden airstream made me shiver and I snuggled closer to Fred. I didn’t want to open my eyes, my dream was too beautiful. Maybe if I could go back to sleep right now -
“Good job, Mum. You might want to close the door now, no?”
I heard the door closing and I sighed in contentment. I felt myself falling asleep again when two loud sounds made me jump. The door had been slammed open and a loud gasp echoed in the room. Instinctively, I tried to get up but Fred pulled me against him.
“Don’t think you want to get up right now.” he murmured with his husky voice in my ear.
I turned my head, ready to scold whoever had disturbed my peaceful dream when I saw him. Remus was on the threshold, his face as white as the hairs of Kreacher’s ears. I was sure mine was dark red by now, and I caught George’s look behind him, silently telling he was sorry. Finally, this little bastard pulled Remus backwards and closed the door, not without dodging the pillow I had thrown him for daring wiggling his eyebrows.
“I’m going to die…” I murmured.
“So am I.” answered Fred. “At least we’ll be together.”
“What a consolation.” I muttered.
“Oi! You didn’t think that a few hours earlier.” He winked at me and grabbed my arse.
“Not now, love, I promise in ten minutes you’ll wish you’re facing a banshee and not an angry Remus.”
Once dressed - and Fred’s giggle gone after he had seen the hickeys I had in the neck - we finally got downstairs. We entered the living-room, not really knowing what was going to follow. I wanted to tell Fred to let go of my hand, but it felt too right. I didn’t say anything.
Remus was pacing in the room, groaning at Sirius who was laughing. They were alone in there. When he heard us, Remus looked up and Fred shifted next to me.
“Where’s your courage, my dear Fred?” I whispered.
“Shut up.”
I wanted to chuckle but in front of an angry werewolf it wasn’t a good idea.
“Y/N, in the kitchen, please.”
I bolted, surprised by his tone. It wasn’t sweet but it wasn’t harsh either. I barely heard Fred groaning (“Courage my ass.”) before running face to face with Molly. She was probably as red as me, and I remembered George’s voice a bit earlier.
“I’m sorry Mrs -”
“Molly, dear. You don’t have nothing to be sorry about.”
She smiled and I let out a sigh of relief, one I didn’t even know I was holding. However, my smile turned into a grimace when I heard a scream in the living-room. Molly and I immediately ran behind the door and listened closely.
“I’m sorry, Professor… Mister… err…”
I chuckled, mentally promising myself I would tease Fred as soon as I could. Molly rolled her eyes.
“She’s fragile right now!” I snorted. “She doesn’t know how to feel and you just take advantage of her situation!”
I furiously shook my head to reassure Molly, whose eyes were wide open. I was ready to barge in and calm Remus’ ass down when Fred spoke up.
“I didn’t take advantage of her Remus! She’s an adult, she can make her own decisions whether you like it or not!”
“Maybe she wanted it but how can I know you -”
“Because fell for her! I love her!”
Fred’s voice was clear as crystal, and so was the love in it. I gasped, and realized I was feeling exactly the same. I loved him. I loved Fred Weasley. This time, I barged in the living-room, yes, but I ran toward Fred and kissed him. He gladly melted into the kiss, pulling me harder against him. We quickly interrupt, not wanting to shock poor Remus more than he already was.
“I love her, Remus, and I know what she went through. I would never, never, to that to her, I swear to you and everyone here.”
Fred’s voice was sweeter now that he didn’t feel threatened anymore. His arm was around my waist and he didn’t loosen his grip when Remus sent him a harsh look.
“I think the boy is sincere,” softly said Sirius. “Maybe you don’t have to murder him right now.”
Remus groaned, looked at me and left in the kitchen. Catching the message, I pecked Fred’s lips - doing it in front of everyone was so strange - and I followed Remus.
“How long has it been?”
“Three weeks.”
“And when did you… you know… for the first time?”
“Yesterday.”
My voice was quiet. Among everyone who was in this house, Remus was the only one I couldn’t bear to disappoint. He was like my father since I was seven, and I knew he wanted nothing more than to protect me. God, I couldn’t even look him in the eyes. What if I saw anger, and disappointment? A shaky sigh escaped my lips.
“Hey, Y/N, look at me.”
He lifted my chin and I saw a small smile on his lips.
“You don’t have to be sorry, I am the one owing you apologies. It’s just that… You know, I know you since you’re a baby, and I saw you growing up into a beautiful woman, and when you send this bird to me, I swore I would protect you. And I will protect you, from everything you need to be protected from, even if it’s a boy.”
“You don’t have to protect me from Fred, Remus…”
“I know that. But I hope he’s scared enough to know what will happen if he hurts you.”
“I bet his pants will remember for him.” I chuckled.
And Remus did something he had never done before, something no one had never done before: he hugged me, and I felt the love of a father enveloping me like a protective cocoon. I even felt a tear rolling down my cheek.
Later this day, I learnt that Mad-Eye was on his way to the 12, Grimmauld Place when Molly had been looking for me. Not finding me in my room, she had wanted to ask Fred if he had seen me, only to find out he was missing too. She had understood that we were together, and George, who had been roughly woken up by his mother, had panicked and had been unable to say anything.
Mad-Eye wanted to explain me my mission, which happened to be less difficult than I thought: I had to go back to my former house, find an highly important file and come back. Fred had refused to let me go alone and, an hour later, we had taken a Portkey. Finding the file hadn’t lasted more than half an hour during which Fred had never let go of my hand, and we came back with the same Portkey after I had cast a spell for it to bring us back to London.
Fred leaving for Hogwarts had kind of broken my heart, I wasn’t ready to spend moths without him, but he had promised me to send me a letter each day. He kept his promise, and while reading it, I had the impression I was with him.
I was still locked up in this awful house, but I was with Remus and Sirius. And I loved Fred, and he loved me, and I had friends.
My life was closer to perfection than it had never been.

A/N:...so yeah...shit’s hitting the fan this chapter...not sorry about it, lol
***
Two months come and go and every time a ship lands near the outskirts you feel your heart clench. You did him rotten, what you did was unfair. He was trying to be kind but just like you always do, you ruin it.
You fall back into your daily routine: sorting, mindlessly storing away information that may never be needed again, but the kid is always at the back of your mind no matter how hard you try to push him away.
You hope he is okay.
You hope he is managing to slip through the Empire's grip as whispers begin to turn to murmurs. The Empire is rising from the ashes, attempting to be reborn, but this time it is darker. You can feel it in the atmosphere, the darkness that had clouded the sky during the reign of Darth Vader was starting to clog everything again.
You are terrified for the kid. Maker knows why the Empire wants him, but it is never a good thing to be wanted by the Empire in a way like that; a need so fierce they would be willing to burn down entire towns to find you.
The sun has just set on the horizon and the lamps all around are warming up their golden glow. You sit on an all too familiar duracrete wall, a cup of steaming tea in your hands.
The small girl from the pack of children approaches you with caution, she pushes a long strand of straight auburn hair behind her ear, "When will the baby be back?" She asks fearlessly.
Your lips press into a line, "I don't know."
"Do you think it will be soon? We miss him."
"I hope so." You respond before you bring the cup to your lips, the hot water burns your tongue.
The little girl seems satisfied, but disappointed with your answer and sighs before returning to the group. Her little shoulders dropping low, the chorus of “awwww” comes from the other children a few feet away.
You spend the night watching them play in the streets and making polite conversation with anyone who approaches you. You congratulate a newly wed couple as they uncomfortably ask if you might know of anything in your collection that might help them with their first child. You smile and ask them to come see you tomorrow afternoon, you'll be sure to get them what they need. "A gift." You respond when they look at each other nervously, unsure of what they could offer in trade, "We need more innocence in this world."
The moon is high in the sky by the time you wander back to your home. You catch yourself holding the spot on your chest where the child would lay his head when he was here, wrapped tightly against your body, tuckered out after a long night of play.
Sleep evades you that night.
Something about tonight was bringing out the worst in you. Something about the way everyone around you was starting to carve their way into the universe made you feel...lonely.
Inadequate.
Lost.
Again and again, you feel the urgency that only loss brings out in you, like you want to reach out into the universe and grab a hold of something - anything - to keep you from falling into the void but there is nothing.
You need to stay busy.
You don't remember when you pull yourself from the warmth of your covers and pad softly downstairs. The lights of your private archives hum loudly in the silence of the early morning. You slide into your helmet, the cold sticks to the inside spaces making little puffs with every breath you take.
You start your search, finding files with old wives tales and home remedies, scanning them for anything you can think of that the new nervous parents could need. And when you can't think of anything else, you read past accounts of births in this tiny little town, taking notes on your data pad as you go.
You don't feel your eyes start to slip closed halfway through your research, you don't feel your head drop forward suddenly heavy with exhaustion, you don't feel your entire body curl up to the desk as sleep completely overtakes you, and most of all you don't feel the Mandalorian pull you from your awkward sleeping position on the table to bring you upstairs. You don’t feel him lay you on your own bed, helmet still firmly attached over your shoulders.
You sleep through the tiny claws pulling themselves up beside you, but when the little warm body curls up under your chin your eyes finally flutter open.
Your hand comes up, landing with a soft plop between the kids ears. "Hey buddy, I've missed you." Your voice is raspy and thick with sleep.
He gurgles, little claws digging into the collar of your shirt.
"Where's your big beskar friend?" You sigh as you sit up slightly, you hold the child tight against you with one hand while pulling the helmet from your head with your other. It bounces on your mattress as you let it slide off. You look around, running the sleep from your eyes and trying to piece together how you even got back here.
The kid reaches up and touches your chin, a shiver runs down your spine as he shares more memories with you.
Sand and heat. Double suns high in the brilliant blue sky.
There was a nice woman there with wild curly hair, you can feel how much she makes him happy. She's fun because she lets me get in trouble. It's not words you exchange but feelings.
Holding the child in your arms and staring into the inky black of his eyes you can feel your resolve melting away.
If Mando asks again, you won't say no. You'll leave this all behind...but you've got to tell him the truth first. You hide your worry behind a smirk as you turn to the child, your hand curled into a C shape as you run it down the front of your chest, “Hungry?”
His little arms immediately spring up as he squeals.
“Not surprising.” You smirk as you inch out of bed, slowly standing with him still held carefully in your arms.
“I told him to let you sleep.”
You almost jump out of your skin at his sudden appearance, you aren’t sure how long the Mandalorian has been standing in your doorway watching you. “Mother of a mudscupper, I didn’t think you could be so quiet!” You shout, your heart racing up your throat.
This time he does chuckle at you before disappearing into your living area. You walk out behind him, still holding the child tight. He leans against a side wall, seemingly looking out of your window into the street below.
“I didn’t think you’d be back.” You say as you place the child down on the thick carpet, he wobbles over to the closest data pad, tucked into your usual place between one of the cushions of the couch.
“He likes it here. He’s safe here”
“You have a bounty nearby?” You ask instead.
“No.” he replies, “My offer-”
“To come with - wait.” You stop before you can finish the thought.
You hear it before you even see it break atmo, your eyes train on the sky. Mando looks up as well, following your gaze. You murmur it as you see it land in the outskirts. “T-4a shuttle.”
The Empire.
"Fuck, you have to go Mando, and you have to go now!" You scramble away from the window, you snatch the kid from the ground and hand him roughly to the Mandalorian as you both move as far away from the window as you can. Your data pad falls from his little claws, shattering against the floor. The Mandalorian tucks the child safely away in his canvas bag, trying to keep him calm as he starts to cry and squirm.
"Come with us."
"You won't make it out of atmo alone." You grit, "Go, I can buy you time."
He hesitates, "Why? Why does the Empire want you?!"
"Dank ferrik Mando, we don't have time for this!"
"Tell me why, tell me what they want."
You roll your eyes, your hands card through your hair harshly, annoyed doesn't even begin to describe the sensation that blooms in your chest, "For fucks sake Mando, it's because I belong to them!"
He takes a step back. If you could see his face you would put money on a look of betrayal probably etching itself into his gaze as you spoke.
You rip yourself out of your thin jacket and toss it on the ground and show your arm to the Mandalorian, the red of the ink even brighter than you remember in the daylight. This is not the way you were hoping to have this conversation.
"You're a deserter."
You huff, "No, life would be much easier if I was. A blaster bolt to the brain and that's the end of that. I am a creation, a monster born and bred for the Empire, they are inclined to bring me back."
He is frozen solid, the only sign of life is his chest which keeps rapidly rising and falling.
You clench your fist, he's running out of time and all he can do is stand there and be shocked by the inhumanity of the Empire, "Please Mando, you need to go."
"They want the kid, something about his blood-"
"Gods damn it, will you please go?!" You were so riled up that you felt the tears starting to blur out your vision.
"Are they making Jedi? Are they making more of you?!"
He was downright impossible. "I was force sensitive when they snatched me di'kut!" You growl, "They can't make us, but they can do other things."
Chaos is breaking out on the streets outside, you can hear screams and the sound of blaster fire. Panic rises up in your throat like acrid bile.
"Look, I don't know what they want from the kid, but please don't let them get him. If he survives whatever it is that they want him for or if he survives whatever they do to him, he won't like himself afterwards."
The Mandalorian is still and you wonder how long it will take for your words to bounce around his helmet before they sink into his head. The kid cries and he finally nods, "How do I get out?"
***
You can hear them coming closer. The sounds of doors being ripped off their hinges as imperial troopers in their white plastoid armor lay waste to the houses of the people you call friends and neighbors grows louder and louder. You are scared, your heart hammers under your ribs and if you don't keep reminding yourself to breathe you are sure you are going to keel over dead.
The Imperials drag out the men and women from their homes, shouting at them for information.
“Where is the bounty hunter?!”
“The one covered in beskar!”
There is no death, there is the force. The words appear in your mind like a message from some nearby god.
You close your eyes and open your door and step out onto the main road, your long handled electro-axe dragging lines into the dirt of the road beside you. You stop in the middle of the road and turn to face the small squad of troopers, a few lieutenants scattered between them, the silver emblems of their caps shine in the sun.
"The Mandalorian was with me." You call over, your voice cuts through the chaos.
The chaos quiets down for a moment as eyes land on you. Your own gaze lands on two lieutenants in the center of the fray, you can see their eyes flicker down, as they take in the brands on your skin. You grip your weapon a little tighter under their gazes.
"Deserter!" One of them growls before the other holds him back, a tight and sudden grip on his shoulder that stops him between steps.
The dark haired lieutenant approaches warily. "What is a Praetorian doing in these quadrants?"
You smirk as there is a noticeable nervous shuffle in the group, "You're outside your jurisdiction boys. There is no Empire or New Republic presence here, but if you insist on asking questions about the Mandalorian, you are going to have to deal with me."
"I repeat, Praetorian," The lieutenant shouts as he visibly gathers his courage and shuffles closer, "Why are you here?"
Your eyes scan his face, the small smirk growing into a toothy grin on your lips, "Let me repeat, lieutenant: you have no jurisdiction here, and if you think you rank above me...you are in for a harsh reminder." Your heart feels like it’s ready to burst from your chest, but you swallow down harshly and refuse to let it show.
His lip quivers and fear rolls off him in tidal waves, he turns to his partner, "Kill them."
The heat from the blasters is immediate as every blaster attempts to take you out, you ignite your vibro axe, it’s blue arcs of electricity snapping to life. You dodge a couple of shots, blocking the rest with a quick push from the force, snapping it back before regathering your focus and sending another wave before the troopers can get another shot in.
Your wave tackles the first row of troopers, causing havoc down the next two lines of troopers. Shots ring out in all directions as troopers go flying into each other, you take this moment to jump into the fray, slicing at the splayed out troopers who are still attempting to stand.
You try to keep tabs on the snarky lieutenant as he melts into the crowd, Imperial troopers pouring down the street en force. A blaster bolt rips through your shoulder, sending a searing flash of pain down your side. You see red as you throw your hand out and catch the trooper responsible by the throat. You fling him bonelessly into the closest hard surface, the sidewall of your own home.
Before he hits the ground you're already preparing to lash out at the next wave, quickly flipping your axe to your good arm, but you are not fast enough. A trooper charges under your outstretched hand, knocking you over.
The air leaves your lungs as you hit the road hard on your back.
The troops lunge forward and you hear distant shouts:
"Bring the e-net!"
"Clear the field!"
The crowd of white and black troopers part and you see the sky darkening as the electric net fills the sky.
"Fuck." You manage to gasp before it lands against your body and pins you to the ground. You hear it hum for a moment before it cracks to life like a lightning strike. Thick arcs of blue electricity fill the air and every muscle in your body spasms.
Your screams fill your ears, eyes brimming with angry tears as white hot pain tears through you. The pain stops for a moment, just enough time for you to see the silver shine of the Razor Crest break out of atmo at the corner of your vision. Electricity arcs again and your vision is gone behind a wall of tears and a tidal wave of pain.
You hear the boots around you surge forward in rhythm and then darkness.
Sweet, sweet, painless darkness.

Jackie
Tumblr media
Characters: Kim Jongin x Do Kyungsoo
Genre: AU!Fluff, maybe some smut at the end, but don’t know yet.
Word count: ~1600 words
Summary: Kyungsoo lives with his cat which is more problems than joy. Jongin has just moved into the house next door.
A/N: This is going to be a little series with an still undefined number of chapters to it. If you have read Guardian you probably know where the name Jackie comes from and I like you very much :3
I woke up in the morning getting my toe licked. For many people, this could a promising way of starting the day, but that was not the case. As the night progressed I had slid further down the bed so that my right foot was dangling off the edge of the bed. My annoying cat, who by then had been on a diet for a grand total of eight days, had a very early internal clock and knew when it hit exactly 6 am to come and complain because her breakfast is not on her bowl. I have to give credit to her though; she started off slow, just by licking my toe as a warning, before trying to open-mouth maul it.
“Fuck off, Jackie.” I grunted as my leg recoiled under the duvet and I pulled it up to cover my head.
Her obvious next step was hopping onto the bed and walking all over me. Most of the times, cats waking their owners up videos are cute and adorable, but that was not necessarily the reality.
Jackie came home when my brother moved countries to work and she needed a new, loving home. I wouldn’t say I fit that criteria completely, but maybe like 50% of it. Either way, she took quite a long time to adapt to his new home and at the beginning, I was barely able to convince her to stay indoors. That caused her a lot of stress and, according to the vet, she ended up eating everything edible she could find and hunt outside. Who would’ve thought cats could have mental problems as well. So she had to be put on a diet, the gate from the kitchen had to be removed and she started getting used to waking me up but sitting her whole nine kilo self on top of my belly.
I pushed her off me to the other side of the bed but sat up on the edge of it anyway. The alarm was going off in an hour and a half anyway.
I could feel Jackie’s fur brushing against my back, slyly pushing me off the bed. As I made my way down the stairs to the kitchen, she was almost walking between my legs, so had to jump off the last couple steps to avoid falling.
Her veterinary told me to buy a certain type of food that had to be heated up, so I killed time throwing a ball across the kitchen which Jackie would then lazily fetch around the room but never actually return. Bowl on hand, I tried to command her to sit, but she only looked at me with round eyes and meowed insistently. I sighed and put the plate down after giving a quick stroke along her loin.
After I got dressed and closed everything up so Jackie wouldn’t stand a chance, I went for a quick stroll around my neighborhood. I was fairly new to this place, having moved into a residential area from the business part of the city, but despite that, I had already made friends with the old lady who lived next door and who never seemed to sleep and neighbors on the other side, the young couple with a little kid who actually just moved away last week. I liked them all fairly well, but although houses here have a pretty sizeable lawn and are at a distance from each other, I could hear their cute baby crying during the nights at times. Sun was already rising when I came back home from my walk and saw a moving van parking in front of the unoccupied house.
…………..
Six in the morning. Again. I’m wrong, it’s 6:02. Jackie must have enjoyed sleeping in.
After having had a particularly awful meeting at work the previous day, I had come home last night and barely cared to cook, so I ordered a pizza and opened a plain can of tuna for Jackie. This morning, she would be getting a gourmet treat, as I was going to make small croutons out of the leftover pizza crusts and add them to her wet food. She may like the crunch, let’s hope she doesn’t crack a tooth.
I had only bothered hiding the crusts from her before I went to bed the night before, quite late after I stood up watching a rerun of a show from before I was born. Pillows were all over the place and the empty box was still on top of the table next to a couple cans of stuff I chugged yesterday. I decided it would be future Kyungsoo’s problem and groggily walked towards the shower.
Future Kyungsoo sighed so hard when he came back home at 7 pm and saw what the other guy had left for him. Postponing wasn’t really an option anymore, so I decided to go for a full room cleanup instead.
I was surprised when I moved the pillows around and Jackie didn’t come zooming out from whatever corner to fight me for it. Despite having a cushiony bed, despite my attempts at making her not do it, she always managed to steal random pillows and hoard them at different places around the house.
This was quite a big house, she could be hiding at the bedroom pillows instead. Despite that, I went looking around every corner and under every piece of furniture, to no avail. I was starting to feel a bit nervous, I thought she had already adapted to being home? My gaze wondered across the room until it found a window ajar. I had opened a little this morning to let the steam of the shower come out and forgot to close it. And Jackie had probably jumped out through it. Despite her weight, Jackie was still pretty agile, and there was a tree branch reaching out not far from the windowsill.
Shit, shit, shit. I ran downstairs and hurriedly opened the kitchen door that led to the backyard. I turned the lights on but they couldn’t do much against the darkness of late fall evenings. I pulled out my phone to turn the flashlight on and started calling for Jackie. My voice rose as I looked around the bushes and found nothing. I heard movement behind me but it turned out to be nothing but a squirrel that was lucky Jackie wasn’t around.
“Hey!” A voice not higher than a talking tone said from behind the right side fencing. “I think this is may be yours.”
I rushed to the fence and as soon as I glanced over it I saw Jackie delicately sitting down on top of the only cushion on the whole porch swing. That little shit.
The second thing I noticed was the guy who had given me the heads up. He looked to be around my age, had light brown hair, slightly tanned skin and was wearing what seemed to be loungewear in old sweatpants and an oversized, seemingly fluffy dark red jumper.
“I was just here having a beer and her cute head popped up from that hole over there!” The new guy pointed at a hole in the fence that indeed connected both houses.
“Oh. I’ll have to get that repaired…”
“I can do it, don’t worry.”
“I wouldn’t want to waste your time…”
“You’re not. We just moved in and I still need to find a job here, so in the meantime I have plenty of it.” He smiled brightly at me and he seemed so self assured I didn’t want to refuse anymore.
“I’m sorry, she shouldn’t be out, but she sneaked through a window I left open. May I come in and pick her up?”
“Oh, don’t worry, I can do that for you.” Then, as if it was as easy as picking up a flower, he walked up to Jackie and picked her up. With both arms. And she even dared to cuddle up against him.
He then handed her to me over the fence, cupping her butt and tail with his big hand in order to avoid her scratching herself against the wood.
“She never lets anyone pick her up so easily.”
“Ahh, it’s a she! I was calling her a good guy when he was sitting with me. I’m sure she’s liked the food, though.”
“The food? Which food?”
“Well, she was just chilling around the yard, so I went in to take the beer. She was on top of the table and already biting some of the food, so I figured since it was already ruined, it didn’t matter if she ate more,” he shrugged. “She seemed to like it.”
“How can you just go around feeding other people’s pet like that? What if they’re sick or allergic?”
“Oh, mmm… I’m sorry! I didn’t know it was your cat and not just any street cat. Cats can eat all food, right?”
“What did she eat?”
“Almost half a chicken sandwich. Roasted chicken, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and cheese,” he recited looking anxious. Roasted chicken and vegetables wasn’t the worst option.
“I tried to feed her a chip as well, but she didn’t take it.”
The look on my face must have been unpleasant enough to make him falter a bit.
“I’m really sorry! Do you think she’s going to be okay? How can I make it up to you?”
“It’s alright,” I said as I started to make my way back home. “She’ll be fine. I’ll make sure to lock the windows properly next time.”

♡Y/n's POV♡
Beep Beep Beep Beep Bee-
You groaned and turned off your stupid alarm. Mornings were definitely not your thing. But alas, you had a class today and you couldn't be late, so you begrudgingly got up and dragged your feet towards the bathroom.
Looking at yourself in the mirror, you almost screeched at your ugliness- just kidding but you did groan at how much of a rats nest your hair looked like.
After showering and completing your morning routine, you walked out of your bathroom and towards your closet. Throwing on whatever you saw first (which happened to be a gray hoodie and unfortunately, jeans) and then tamed your hair so it looked hair presentable.
Not bothering to put it up you grabbed your bag and made your way downstairs. And then you immediately regretted it.
There was loud screaming coming from the kitchen and the sound of crying. You sighed and walked into the kitchen, you mood worsening when you saw your little sister crying. You hated seeing her cry, she was a wholesome child and you would never allow her childhood to be ruined because the to two people yelling.
"Enough!" You yelled, gaining the attention of all three present. "What is going on?"
"This nuisance spilled her juice all over me!" Your grandma yelled, throwing her hands into the air.
"She's just a kid! It was an accident and she even apologized! Why are you being so mean!?" Your mother yelled back.
"Ever since you adopted this child shes been nothing but a pest! Always leeching off of us-"
"I said ENOUGH!" You had enough of their shit. Walking up to your crying sister, you gave her a hug and picked her up so she was secure around your hip.
"Grandma, I love you. But that's no way to speak to her. She apologized so you dont need to start yelling such things." You said calmly, controlling your temper.
"Now both of you break it up," you looked at the two women who eventually went their separate ways, muttering under their breathes.
"Hey princess, are you okay?" You asked your little 6 year old sister whole wiping her tears away.
She nodded and rubbed her eyes. "I'm okay, did grandma mean it?" She asked sadly.
"No of course not, she may not show it but she loves you baby. Don't worry okay? Now you go play in your room alright?" You told her, setting her down.
"Okay unnie, I love you," she said, kissing your cheek before running upstairs.
You smiled and grabbed your bag once again, deciding to just grab some juice and skip breakfast for today.
"I'm leaving!" You yelled before walking out the front door. Seeing your neighbor Mr.Bang, you waved hi. Mr.Bang was a nice and jolly old man who lived by himself.
You walked to the bus terminal and sat down waiting for your best friend. After a few minutes she ran up to you.
"Hey Y/N!" She chirped happily, a little too happy for your taste.
"Hey Nari, why so happy? Its Monday," you stated, sipping on your juice.
"Because! I just saw this super cute guy on the way here and oh my god we was so good looking like-"
One thing you didn't like about your bestfriend was how crazy she was about boys.
"Girl! This is like the 4th guy this week! The week only started yesterday for crying out loud! How long are you gonna keep doing this to yourself? Guys are a literal WASTE of time. Do something better with your life rather than fawning over guys all the time." You snapped, already tired hearing where this conversation was heading.
"But-" she tried to say but the bus arrived and cut her short. "Come on," you said standing up, walking towards the entrance of the bus.
You were waiting for everyone to get off while you sipped your juice, but of course, someone just HAD to bump into you, spilling your juice all over your hoodie.
"What the hell man!" You screeched. Thankfully you had a tshirt on underneath so you took off your sweater.
You glared at the guy who spilled your drink. "Shit, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to here's a tissue-" he said, fumbling with his bag.
People were now boarding the bus and you had to go. "Watch where you're going next time blondie," you seethed before getting onto the bus, leaving the mysterious boy on the sidewalk.
*time skip to after class*
"Finally! I was growing tired of listening to her talk," you sighed and got up from your seat. Being a business major was such hard work, sometimes you considered just dropping out.
Packing your things up and saying goodbye to your classmates, you walked out the university and sat down in the bench where you and your bestfriend usually met.
After waiting for another 10 minutes, you started to grow impatient.
"Y/N!" The familiar voice yelled as they ran up to you.
"You know Minho, it's rude to keep people waiting." You stated, crossing your arms.
"Were there others waiting here as well?" He asked, catching his breath. "Me Minho, I'm people," you groaned and began walking away.
He just laughed and followed you, throwing an arm around your shoulders. "I'm sorry, I saw this really hot girl and-" you blocked out the rest he was going to say.
You see, Minho was a fuckboy. A player. He's been going from girl to girl, no one ever lasts a week with him. There was no doubt, Minho was definitely cute and he was really smart. But when it came to girls, there was no end to his fanclub. That's what happens when your bestfriends with the son of Lee industries.
Yep, you heard it folks. He's the Lee Minho, heir of Lee industries. How the two of you became friends, you'll never know.
"Whatever I dont care about what you did to get the girl man, just drive me home please!" You pleaded. You just wanted to go home and flop onto your bed for a few years.
Minho just rolled his eyes and nodded. You started talking about random things as he Lead you too his car. He started the engine and drove off.
After talking a bit more he spoke up "Y'know Y/N, don't you think it's about time you got yourself a boyfriend?" He asked you.
You snorted. "Men are a waste of time. Besides I don't need any man but you Min. Why do I need a boyfriend when I have my bestfriend?"
Hearing that made Minho smile as pink busted his cheeks. He was happy you felt that way about him. Although that last line was a bit of a sting. Man just got friendzoned.
Once arriving at your house you said bye to Minho and stepped out of the car, walking to your front porch and turning around to wave at him once more before he drove off.
Walking into your house you kicked off your shoes and trudged upstairs, throwing your dirty hoodie in the hamper beside your closet. You dropped your bag and jumped onto your bed closing your eyes.
You didn't even close your eyes for 30 seconds before you felt someone's weight on you. Groaning, you open your eyes to see your little sister.
"Yunaaa.... what is it?" You whined.
"I wanna go to the park," she said.
"Unnies tired sis, ask mom.." you mumbled.
"Mom had to go to work and there's no way I'm asking grandma," she whined.
You sighed and sat up, the little girl now sitting in your lap instead of crushing your chest.
"Alright, only for a little while. Okay?" You told her and she nodded, jumping up and down.
You grabbed your phone and decided to wear your glasses today cause you were to lazy to put on your contacts.
You held your sisters hand as she happily skipped down the sidewalk beside you. Arriving to the park, Yuna let go of your hand and ran towards the swings. But she, being the clumsy child she is, bumped into someone and scraped her knee. You gasped and ran towards them.
The guy she bumped into bent down and helped her up. He put a bandaid on her cut and helped her up.
"What's your name sweetie?" He asked, grabbing a flower nearby and placing it in her hair, making her giggle.
"Yuna" she said.
"I'm Chan" he said smiling at the little girl.
You put a hand on her shoulder and went to apologize. "I'm so sorry about her clumsiness-" you went to say but he cut you off.
"Hey! You're that girl from the bus terminal!" He exclaimed. You properly looked at him and scowled.
"Oh it's you blondie," you said, picking up your sister and placing her on your hip. "You okay?" You asked her.
"Yeah! Channie oppa made it better!" She giggled.
"Did you thank him?" You asked her. You may not like him but you still had manners.
"Thank you Channie oppa!" She said happily before wiggling out of your arms and running towards the swings.
Now it was just the two of you. You were about to leave when he suddenly spoke up.
"Am I not going to get a thank you?" He asked.
"Why would I?" you scoffed. "Call us even for that time you spilt my drink all over me"
You began to walk away when he yelled. "Nice meeting you glasses!" You just rolled your eyes.
-The next day-
You didn't have a class today and you couldn't me happier. After doing assignments and listening for so long you needed a break.
You were eating a snack while texting Minho when someone rang your doorbell. You looked at the door with furrowed, who decides to visit at 10am??
You walked towards the door to see your mother with Yuna in front of her. You glanced at them before opening the door.
There stood Blondie.
"Oh! Pleasure seeing you again." He said to you before looking at your mom.
"Hi Miss! My uncle asked me to bring you this dish," he said, showing you guys the dish.
"And you are?" She asked.
"Oh right! I'm Chan, I'm from Australia and I'm Mr.Bangs nephew." He stated while smiling.
"Its a pleasure to meet you Chan, thank you for the dish. And please, call me Nina." You cringed when your mom told him her first name
He smiled "What a beautiful name for a beautiful woman." Looking down, he saw Yuna and gasped.
"Yuna my favorite girl!" He exclaimed, crouching to give her a hug which she gladly returned. You just rolled your eyes and continued to stare at him angrily.
You weren't sure why but he was getting on your nerves. "Ah right! What brings you here all the way from Australia? Important businesses?" Your mom asked.
"Ah no, I'm here to visit someone important to me. And maybe get married," He said happily.
"Ah really!?" Your moms eyes widened.
"That being said, Nina I want to marry your daughter!" He exclaimed. What???
"Excuse me?" You scowled.
"I wasn't talking to you glasses I was talking to little Yuna over here. Yuna will you marry me?" He exclaimed dramatically. Yuna giggled and shook her head.
"No!" "No!" Both you and Yuna yelled at the same time.
"Quick question Nina, is she in a bad mood or was she born this way?" Chan asked you mom, making your anger skyrocket.
"Shes always like this-" you mom said and you whined. "Mom!"
"Hahaha it's okay we can work on it." He said nonchalantly.
"Work on it-?" "Anyways! It was nice meeting you all, I'll see you at 8 o clock!" Chan said.
"8 o clock?" Your mom questioned.
"For dinner! At your place. I'm you're new neighbor, obviously you'll invite to show your hospitality... won't you?" He asked looking hopeful.
"Okay..." your mom said.
"Also, glasses over here might be a bit angry with you when I go. Apologies for that! Bye now!" He gave Nina the dish and walked off.
What just happened?

I Miss You》 Park Jisung
Tumblr media
credits to gif owner
pairing: jisung park x reader
word count: 1.9K
warnings: slight angst (not really)
genre: established relationship, idol au, fluff, slight angst, jisung being a caring boy, boyfriend!jisung, reader misses him, but doesn't wanna admit it
a/n: i envisioned myself in this position haha, sorry
Tumblr media
"good night honeybee. i love you."
"good night angel! i love you always."
jisung sleepily replies, yawning into the phone, before he closed his eyes to be guided into slumber. although he knows comeback seasons does take a toll on his body, and sometimes mentality, he makes sure he calls you every night. whether it be to tell you he'll be in the dance studio until the next day, or before bed, he always tries to find time for you in his extremely busy schedule, especially since he is quite worried about you.
although it's been a few months since the entire debacle, he always wants to make sure you're safe and well. he knew that you didn't mind all of the sudden attention, and you didn't care about what everyone thought about you and him together, but sometimes he just wants to make sure you're okay.
it's obvious that he's the more vocal one in the relationship; always saying what's on his mind, telling you whenever he felt you should say or stop this, or whenever he felt angry about something petty and wanted to say it to get over it. he just has more experience in expressing his feelings to those close to him.
you, on the other hand, always kept everything bottled up inside, not necessarily saying anything, even when it bothers you, because you wouldn't want to be a bother to others, unless it ticked you off. you were always the one to express your anger for some complicated situations, but rarely to others. you find yourself as your own confidant, as your own provider, as your own push to help you through the tunnel of life.
the way you handle things, often than not, got you in some heated arguments with jisung. he just wants you to tell him when it's too much pressure. especially that day when the camera crew came in, setting a gazillion cameras inside your house, saying that the fans would love to see how you and jisung interact. he saw how uncomfortable it made you, and seeing as it's been two weeks, and you still jump when you walk in your sleepwear at 7am and see the camera following you, it's enough evidence.
yet, whenever he asks you, you brush it aside. ''i'll get used to it'' you'll always tell him, knowing fully well, you sometimes can't stand it. waking up, and pretending to be a youtuber making a get ready with me video, only for it to actually be posted, it ticks you off. yet, all you tell him is that you'll get used to it.
this situation, was no different. for the past three months, jisung has had activity after activity to go through, while trying to record content for this stupid youtube segment. most times it would split videos of him and you on the phone, laughing about some stupid meme you saw on twitter. you know, every single piece of your body misses your boyfriend; dying to be back in his arms, and snuggled with him on the couch, watching random TV shows while he randomly kisses your hair and pulls you closer.
you know that you miss him, and yearn for the day he comes and tells you that promotions are over and the frequent break in between has begun, but you don't tell him that. you don't tell him how much you miss waking up in the morning to see him dancing around the kitchen to a video of you singing one of his songs in the best voice you can muster, unintentionally burning the eggs on the stove.
you don't tell him how much you miss coming home from an interview with other artists, only to see him fixing his hair, humming puzzle piece, smiling goofily at the thought of you. you don't tell him how much you miss your rant sessions; him ranting about how close fans get sometimes, and you ranting about how much you wanna punch your coworker in the throat for her unbearably cocky attitude.
you don't tell him how much you miss last minute packing for a day trip to the other side of the country. you don't tell him how much you miss sulking on the couch, only for him to plant a million pecks and kisses on every corner of your face, until you smiled and playfully pushed him away.
before you knew it, you're sitting up in your bed, crying to yourself about how much you miss him. and for once, you want to let him know, desperately throwing away your pride and wanting him to know how much you ache for his presence, and his quirky habits, and his killer smile, and just everything he has to offer. you miss him so much, your cries get a little too loud, your breath gets a bit too heavy, and your body shakes a bit too much, but you don't care, you just miss him so much it physically hurts you.
the little lamp in the corner of your room shines a somber gold around the room, you oblivious to the fact that the cameras are on 24/7 and is catching this very moment, of your vulnerability. you are also oblivious to the fact that he didn't hang up the phone, him obviously being too tired to actually hover his finger, as he was out like a light, his little snores in the background evident to the entire thing.
"honeybee, i miss you so much. so much it hurts."
you start, your voice choked up, coming out cracked, and scratchy.
halfway through your rant, jisung wakes up, blinking a few times to himself, trying to adjust to the bright light amidst the dark room, the slightest sound of hiccups ring in his ear, an extremely nasally voice ringing out sobs and muffled words, and he automatically sits up in concern. he wants to immediately ask you what's wrong, but instead just listens to what you have to say.
"i miss how, every time you hug me, it feels like placing the last piece of the puzzle in its rightful place. honeybee i just miss how much you check up on me when i'm sick. how sometimes we take turns nightly to sing each other to sleep, you laughing when my voice cracks, or me teasing you with praises for a run you mastered. i miss playful mornings, both of us being too lazy to move, but somehow ending up dancing around the room to various artists and songs. i miss when i wake up, and you're already staring at me, the loving gaze in your eyes as you slightly smile, immediately going to plant a kiss on my big ass forehead. i miss pushing you away, and telling you to brush your teeth before you could give me a good morning kiss. i miss when you and the boys would all pile up in my house, and i would get to show you a bit of my country's cuisine, and laughing when you guys scarf it down like you haven't eaten in years. and i want to tell you all of this, but i don't want to be a burden to you. you already have a lot, with some overbearing fans, promotions, and the occasional run ins. i don't want you to focus on me only and put your feelings on the backburner like i always do. i wish i just had to courage to tell you all of this."
by the end of your rant, jisung has to wipe a few tears from his eyes, smiling sadly on the other end of the phone call, wanting to just pack his overnight bag and come to hold you, tell you that he misses you just as much, and scold you for keeping everything bottled up, like he always does.
he goes to check the time, 2:16 am it says, and he knows that he has to be up by 4am in any event, and he suddenly thanks literally everything for the sudden off day his boss gave them, because he knows for sure, after what you just confessed, he's going to surprise you. he hears some ruffling on the other side of the call, the sound of bedroom slippers hitting the tile floors, and a door opening and closing. he just hopes you're okay.
you, on the other hand, walks into your kitchen, quite starved after crying your heart out for what feels like all night, which in truth was about three hours. you flip the switch, your kitchen suddenly illuminated, and you put your hand in front of your eyes, the quick headache taking effect, and you blink repeatedly at the sudden light. you then smile, before going to your dishes, taking out your favorite bowl, and pouring some lucky charms to the brim of the bowl, before going in your refrigerator, and grabbing your milk, pouring it in as well, and grabbing a spoon.
you walk back towards the exit of the kitchen, towards the corridor that connected both the living room and the stairway in separate mazes together. suddenly flinching once you see the infamous moving camera, following you, and you roll your eyes. 'do they not need new batteries or something?' you thought to yourself, before walking upstairs to your room.
you look up at the camera on top of your vanity, and smile and tight lipped uncomfortable smile, before showing the big bowl of lucky charms and chuckling.
"cereal hits different at 2am after an emotional breakdown."
you say, chuckling once again, and happily eating your food, humming along to love again, as it plays inside your head, liking the way it sounds, and suddenly asking alexa to play it for you. it's not as loud as it would usually be, considering what time it is, and the fact that your neighbor just came back home from her long ass business trip (which you're lowkey suspicious of, because her boss came looking for her halfway through, saying if she didn't come in tomorrow then she'll be fired) and doesn't like k-pop for the life of her.
you rest your bowl by the foot of your bed, honestly too lazy to go back downstairs and place it back inside the sink. you then go to your phone, and open it, seeing as it was still on the book you were reading before jisung demanded for your attention, only to then fall asleep on you ten minutes later. you read until you notice the sun up, suddenly hearing my first and last playing around you. the doorbell ringing frequently, and you check the time.
9:48 am it reads, and you realize you read about 10 books in the span of seven hours. you shout that you'll be down in a minute and make sure jisung's hoodie is low enough, before placing your bedroom slippers back on and walking down the stairs, turning into the living room and left, towards the separate entryway (it's kind of a big ass house), opening the door, before tears blurred your vision, and you immediately scooped up from the floor, and spun around on your porch, inhaling the scent you missed for the past three months. quite happy that you were in jisung's embrace again.
you didn't question it one bit, in fact you didn't question anything, just told him to come inside and told alexa to play the song louder. coincidentally, it was Quiet Down, making both you and jisung laugh boisterously, before walking into the kitchen, and dancing to his songs, as you both made pancakes and gossiped about anything and everything, just like you missed and loved.

Chapter 9: Car rides at 4 am and bad memories.
Tumblr media
Jolted by the sound of Rm and Jungkook waking everyone up running through the doors and finally making there way outside.
“Tae baby..” you yawned trying to get out of bed but a strong pair of arms swooped you back up but luckily you fought them off.
About twenty minutes or so everyone now fully awake and pilling in the cars that you rode on the way here. the car ride was silent most of it was filled with haru and jins laughter while jungkook little snores fought against their laughter.
This car ride felt different however..like something was off and not to mention in the back of your mind the texts that’s flown through you and haru about felix.
It’s not that you were hiding anything but the memories still haunted you at night wishing that you never bumped into that womanizing stupid Australian guy and if it wasn’t for Han it wouldn’t have ever happened.
Through the morning drifting in and out of sleep while tae hung onto you for dear life slanted in the seat, his arms around you while your head laid on his chest...although sure that you were not awake the memory played through like a broken record.
Tumblr media
FLASHBACK:
“jeez y/n i’m sorry that i fell asleep studying and your fine i’m sure felix is waiting up there as we speak” haru laughs as you two depart from another girl in your class making it up to your shared apartment. The more steps you take the more anxious you get...as if your gut was telling you something is wrong very wrong. When glancing to haru you knew she felt the same..you just couldn’t press your mind to it so therefore you shrugged it off like it was nothing.
Approaching your apartment door, haru pulled the keys out as you both stepped in dropping your bags. Haru went straight into the kitchen drawing your attention. “Hey y/n you know jin seokjin right?” she looked at you laughing. “yeah jungkook talks about him all the time why” you cocked your brow and there was that smug face.. “shut..up NO WAYYY” you jumped up and down cheering but soon those cheers fell silent.
Throwing your attention to haru to see if she hears the noise too she nods quickly pulling her phone out to ring jin and jk to quickly come there ASAP. after the call ended she ending up picking the closest thing to her which happened to be the kitchen knife held up on the block in the kitchen.
cautiously advancing up the small flight of stairs you learn the sound is coming from your room, leaning into the door knob you peel it open and kick it only to find your boyfriend at the time balls deep in some other girl..in YOUR bed.
“what.the.fuck.is.this?” Haru drops the knife letting it clang to the floor while jin and jungkook had arrived ushering themselves up the door. “hey haru you call-” Jin stopped and jungkook advanced pushing felix off your bed while he’s stumbling to pull his clothes back on.
“hold the fuck up..Maria?” your eyes begin to water knowing the stranger was not only a stranger but just so happened to be your neighbor..and a good friend..not anymore. “y/n look i can explain.” you collapsed on your knees drowning out any sound that was coming from anyone or anything...what the fuck could you done wrong..? Questions flew through your mind left and right.
“JUNGKOOK STOP” was the first thing you heard before pulling yourself up wiping your face to glance at the horrible person that you’ve been dating for the past 2 years. Glancing at him you noticed the busted lip and an angry jungkook a few feet away from you getting calmed down by jin.
“y/n please..” felix pleaded searching your face to find any emotion to which you shrugged it off and gathered your thoughts before opening your mouth. “felix if you want to me a favor get your shit and go please. i mean it. don’t EVER contact me and keep your shitty apologizes to yourself. The AUDACITY that you cheat on me with my neighbor on our 2 year anniversary..and to top it all off you fucked her on MY fucking bed jesus.. and for you maria you’re dead to me and i mean that shit and keep your fucking band members off my fucking back...i have no shame to tell them what the fuck i just walked into.” you breathed finally watching him shamelessly walk out the door.
“y/n come on you can sleep over..haru can too okay..” jungkook pulled you into his arms doing his absolute best from going out and beating the fuck out your ex boyfriend. “o-oh kay come on haru” looping your arms around haru you both walked out and intos jins car, trying your hardest to not break down and cry and scream.
Once at the boys house jungkook rushes you into the house that’s surrounded by laughter pushing you up the stairs before you lose everything. once safely and secured in jungkooks room your finally able to let everything out and for damn sure everyone downstairs heard it.
“why jungkook” you sniffed, tears steaming down your face as a knock is heard and sure enough the boy with a sorrow face was taehyung. immediately running up to you he wrapped you in his arms letting you stain your tears into his hoodie sobbing. “y/n shh it’s okay listen..he was a complete asshole i know alright but you are so much stronger..i need you to promise me you’ll forget about that fucked up accent douche okay” nodding and wiping the tears away, pooling yourself to sleep and for a moment washing the memory away and replaced it was tae.
Tumblr media
Waken up by taehyung and the sunrise he noticed the tears that pooled in your eyes. “you okay y/n” his eyes scanning your face and pulling you closer to his chest. “i’m alright just bad dream...i don’t wanna talk about it” you sighed placing your head on his chest to listen to the thumping of his heart flattering you to coax back to sleep.
Once the drive was over and everyone pooling back to their normal lives you only had one goal and that was to somehow tell tae about felix and getting your dog.
the situation itself is tricky and seeing as the smallest detail can reside in that god awful nightmare you didn’t want to say anything.
“ i’ll call you later okay baby..? or if you want i can come over later tmr” tae pecked your lips, your forehead and both your cheeks before getting in the car with the rest of the boys and driving to their home.

Right After
Word Count: 1,321/AO3
Pairing: New Dream/Rapunzel x Eugene
Summary: Rapunzel and Eugene reflect on their wedding immediately after it happens.
Author’s Note: Hi everyone! This is my contribution for Day 7 of New Dream Appreciation Week - Life After Happily Ever After! This was, by far, the most difficult prompt for me. It’s another Modern!AU, unsurprisingly, and there’s a teeny tiny reference back to the vacation fic I wrote for day 2 ;). I’m so sad that this week is already over, and I had so much fun trying to figure out what to write for each and every one of these prompts. I have a lot of catching up to do with everyone else’s work (because when am I not a human disaster), but I really, really appreciate all the love I got this week. Thank you all so much for reading, you have no idea what it means to me <3
“I can’t believe we did that!” Rapunzel exclaimed excitedly as she climbed into the limousine. “We’re married!”
“It all happened so fast,” Eugene added, climbing in behind her and closing the door. “I can’t believe it’s already over.”
“I know,” she frowned, as the car began to drive away. “I wish we could relive this night over and over again. It was the best wedding ever.”
“I can’t wait until we can see all of the pictures and videos,” he said, taking her hand in his own. “I’m sure our friends have already been posting stuff online.”
“I’m not even sure where I left my phone. I hope it’s in the hotel room,” she giggled. “Today was such a whirlwind.”
“Tell me about it. I had to get up at eight.”
“Eight?! I had to get up at six!”
“Why did you get up so early?”
“It isn’t like I really slept last night, anyway. But I had breakfast with my bridesmaids, then a shower, then they started on my hair, then pictures, then makeup, more pictures, getting dressed, even more pictures. The pictures prolonged everything. I think the videographer was there, too, but everything was such a blur.”
“No wonder why you had to get up so early,” he chuckled. “It was a lot easier for me. Breakfast, shower, shave, style my hair, and get dressed. Basically what I’d do on a normal day, just with a photographer, videographer, and my groomsmen in the room.”
“There are going to be so many pictures, now that I think about it,” she pointed out. “They were with both of us all morning, and then they were at the ceremony and the reception.”
“We’re definitely giving your parents some framed pictures as part of their Christmas gift this year.”
“Oh, don’t worry,” she laughed. “They asked who our photographer was a long time ago, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they’re paying to have copies of some of the pictures.”
“Wouldn’t surprise me, either,” he muttered. “I just wish we could surprise them with something, for once.”
“We will, someday,” she said, confidently. “Speaking of surprises, I can’t believe that my father actually teared up when I danced with him. I’ve never seen him get like that.”
“It was really sweet, there was hardly a dry eye in the room.”
“I think my mom takes the cake with crying. She cried throughout the entire ceremony, and our first dance, and the speeches. I think the only reason she stopped crying was because she started drinking,” she jested.
“I can’t say that I blame her. That bar had quite a large selection of liquor.”
She rolled her eyes. “It wasn’t like she got totally wasted. She just had enough that it stopped her from crying.”
“Could you imagine if she cried while we cut the cake?”
“Don’t even get me started,” she laughed. “Speaking of food, I’m starving.”
“We’ll order room service when we get back to the hotel,” he assured her. “They stay open until three - I made sure they stood open late when we checked in.”
“You’re the best,” she squealed. “I’m a little sad that I didn’t get to eat more at the reception. Everything I had was delicious, but I was too busy talking to everyone to actually eat a full meal.”
“I think I got to eat a little more than you did, but I could go for a burger, myself.”
“I don’t even know what I want, but a burger sounds great. Or maybe penne alla vodka. Or pizza.”
“We could order a bottle of champagne, too,” he added.
“Mmmm,” she sighed, contently.
“I’ll take that as a ‘yes,’ then.”
She nodded before leaning her head on his shoulder. “What was your favorite part about tonight, Eugene?”
He hesitated for a moment before answering. “Well, marrying you is obviously my favorite part. But I really loved those few minutes between the ceremony and the reception; it was the first time that we had time to just...talk. With no interruptions.”
“And then we went right back to taking more pictures,” she giggled. “I really loved that, too.”
“What was your favorite part?”
“Everything,” she answered, squeezing his arm.
“No fair! That’s cheating,” he teased. “I gave you a real answer.”
“I don’t know if I can pick a favorite. Everything was just so perfect.”
“Fine, I guess that’s an acceptable answer,” he jeered. “I can’t wait to take this suit off.”
“I never want to take this dress off,” she pouted, looking up at him. “I love it so much.”
“I mean, you don’t have to take it off, but it will get grungy and dirty if you don’t.”
“Stop using logic,” she grumbled.
“Sorry,” he chuckled.
“My mom is coming by tomorrow to get it before we leave for the airport. She’s going to take it to the dry cleaner’s for me.”
“I hope she’s going to take this suit, too.”
She nodded. “Definitely. She’s taking anything that isn’t coming with us to Greece.”
The car came to a stop, then, and they knew that they had reached their hotel. Eugene climbed out first, and held out his hand for her. She took it, and gracefully stepped out behind him. The hotel lobby was dead, except for a few members of the hotel staff who stared at them from the front desk. The elevator ride was quiet, and they practically skipped down the hallway to their room.
“I did leave my phone here!” Rapunzel exclaimed, as soon as she saw her phone resting on the mattress. She picked it up and the screen lit up before her eyes. “Wow! I have over 200 text messages.”
“Calm down, there, miss popularity,” he said, handing her a room service menu. “Pick what you want to eat first, then read your messages.”
“Actually, it’s missus popularity,” she corrected, handing the menu back. She sat down on the edge of the bed. “And just order me a burger.”
“Easy enough,” he shrugged, walking over to the phone on the nightstand.
She scrolled through her messages as he ordered the food, and a moment later he was sitting next to her.
“Look at this,” she said, holding her phone out to him. “One of my friends got lost on the way here and thought that the best way to figure out where the venue was, was to text me.”
“...this person knew that you were the bride, right?”
“That’s why it’s so funny!” She laughed. “And look, my coworker sent thirty professional-looking pictures that she took!”
She handed him the phone, and he scrolled through the pictures. “These are so great.”
“I know!” She said. “I still didn’t open most of the messages yet, but from what I could tell, most of them were just ‘congratulations’ messages. I’ll answer everyone tomorrow.”
“I’m afraid to see how much stuff we’re tagged in on social media,” he chuckled.
Her eyes widened and she flopped backwards. “I forgot about that. I’m too tired, now; I’ll look tomorrow.”
“No sleeping until after you eat, sunshine,” he warned playfully.
She leaned up on her elbows. “I’m not going to sleep yet. Do you know what we should do?”
“What?” He asked, cautiously.
“Jump on the bed!”
He chuckled. “I don’t think our downstairs neighbors will appreciate that, sunshine.”
“Who cares! We can do whatever we want because we got married today.”
“I don’t think it works quite like that, but…” he trailed off, looking around the room. “Let’s do it!”
So they did; they jumped and giggled like children for a minute or two before collapsing in a heap on the bed.
“Well, that was fun,” he said, trying to catch his breath.
She leaned her head against his shoulder. “I still can’t believe we’re married.”
“Me either,” he agreed, with a smile. “The start of forever.”
“Our happily ever after,” she grinned widely, squeezing his hand.
