I think drama is totally fine if the end is actually worth it? Like I’ve read stories where it was one drama after the other and that was fine but then in the end, things were fine again and then the story just ends and it just left me feeling like ?????? All that drama for one sentence of happy times????? Ya know what I mean?

If your story is supposed to end in a happy way (I hope I love reader and Joel and especially after this last chapter I need them to happily grow old together 😭) then I would just suggest, add all the drama you want! Just make sure things still feel satisfying in the end. If a story is supposed to end happy then I want to see it and feel it? Like I want to be happy and my heart is light and I’m giddy for them and their ending.

But just a few sentences that basically say “and they happily lived ever after” has often left me feeling just not happy. Because I didn’t get to actually see them be happy you know? Basically like a, show don’t tell kinda thing. I don’t just wanna know they’re happy and things are well, I actually want to read an experience it!

I hope it’s understandable what I meant and maybe it helps a bit with your decision! :)

i obviously don’t want to spoil the ending, but what i can tell you is that it will be a closed, hopefully satisfying one. as a reader, i want to finish reading something and feel like all loose ends were tied, so this is the type of ending "wherever you go" will have. even if it’s packed full with drama, i want said drama to have a purpose and also a conclusion, so the story feels rewarding.

also, regardless of the ending (so difficult to answer this without spoiling! lmao), there will be an epilogue chapter too, because, just like you, i CANNOT live peacefully if a story ends suddenly without time for me to feel all the fucking feels, so the story can be flushed out of my system slowly. i’m hoping to achieve that with the epilogue! and if i don’t, please I BEG YOU to come hunt me down and make me rewrite it. anyway I DIGRESS haha

Mihawk is the most emotionally put together out of the two of them, and probably by a longshot with many of his pirate peers as well

The bond he’s fostered with you over the years is something he cherishes greatly; so to see his dear friend at the large doorway of his castle, inconsolable with tears, from what, infidelity?

Oh, Mihawk isn’t pleased, your ex partner will rue the day they’d made such a callous decision, but for now the most important thing was to comfort you in your time of need 

He’d drape a blanket over your shoulders and go about fixing you a nice comfort meal - he knows that the living room isn’t very cozy with it’s brick walls and high ceilings so if you felt more comfortable sitting in the kitchen and venting while he cooked, he wouldn’t object

Mihawk stays close by as you eat, but not near enough to touch, he doesn’t want to intrude (vampires are all about invitation, after all)

It’s not until you wave him over that he makes himself comfortable on the couch beside you afterwards, your arms around his waist as he carded his fingers through your hair

He doesn’t say much until prompted, where he’d proceed to tell you about numerous adventures from his youth, the ladder he had to climb to earn his title, the trials and tribulations the World Government posed to him at every turn before they eventually offered him a position in the Shichibukai

If you wanted to share, he’d listen to talk about what that relationship was to you, how you put your everything into being with your (former) partner and how now you don’t know what to do

Mihawk is a grown man in his forties, he’s been around long enough to know how thing go - he’d offer advice if you asked but remind you that everyone has method that work differently for them, that not all relationship are meant to last and that your ex was a fool to let someone like you slip through their fingers, and maybe throw in a joke about slashing them into tiny bite-sized pieces for the creatures in his moat 

His eyes soften when he hears you laughing again, pleased to know that he’s relieved even a modicum of your distress

You spend the rest of the night together, talking about everything and nothing on the floor of his castle as if you two were young children again, dreaming to take on the world

Mihawk is drawn to your warmth, the burning fireplace has nothing on the passion he sees in your eyes, yearning to feel the extent of that play out for the rest of his life at your side, turn old(er) and grey with you in this large, spacious castle haunted by feelings of a home, maybe even raise a little pink ghost and mossball with you

But he holds himself back - that’d be all too much for the state that you’re just coming off and the last thing he wants to do is take advantage of you

So he’s content for now, taking in small moments like this with you and keeps the scenes of gardening, cooking, and living together ‘til old age in the safety and privacy of his own mind where he can indulge without hurting anyone or harming your trust

Crocodile

Crocodile isn’t so valiant

He’s selfish, he’s cruel, and he’s been waiting forever to sink his teeth into an opportunity like this

Crocodile, of course, takes no pleasure in seeing you hurt; the idea that some two-bit nobody could make you care for them, love them, put your trust in them, only to throw it all away for a skeevy fling?

Frankly it makes his blood boil in no small part because he’s frustrated that you should’ve been with him instead of wasting your time with them

No matter, he won’t look a gift horse in the mouth

Crocodile is callous as ever in regards to work - you might be closer to him than most but you’re still one of his agents and he’s not a man who accepts failure lightly

If you do falter, however, he takes this as an excuse to whisk you away to a “brief” vacation, take your mind off things with a lavish resort and entertainment as far as the eye could see; perks of being a Warlord, after all

He keeps his distance at first, he can’t afford to tip you off to what he’s doing so he lets you enjoy yourself, gives you your space

Crocodile tempers his gift-giving even after returning, allowing other officer agents some leniency as well so it doesn’t look like he’s laying it on thick just for you

A few more perceptive brows raise at this but it’s nothing a couple of threats on their lives can’t fix; and maybe you do notice the certain way things change, how the once cool and distant Mr. Zero is just that much more tolerant, just slightly more patient with you, a molecule less terse, and maybe even (god forbid) warm at times

None of these changes you dislike, and you find yourself thinking about him more at more, less like your superior and rather someone you’d like to spend, all according to plan

Crocodile thinks he can hold on the cards, but during the course of this nearly-year-long charade of ‘getting you to open up to him when really all of this could be quartered if he just talked to you about it like a perfectly normal grown adult’, he’d seemed to have slipped, too

No longer are you someone he needs to have and own, a pawn at his side, easily swayed by his wealth and power and here for his pleasure but nothing more, he finds himself thinking of you at his side, truly an equal and someone he can let his guard down around (never entirely, however)

The thought is gutting, putting his heart and vulnerabilities in someone else’s hands, it makes him feel all too naked and laid bare for comfort

As he looks at you now ten months later, though, curled up against his side after a long week of being away and complaining about enemies putting up too little of a fight these days until you drifted off, he uncomfortably thinks to himself that maybe, just maybe, he’d be able to get used to this whole trusting thing again despite his initial self-serving intentions

At the very least, he takes a quiet glint of self-satisfaction knowing that whoever that loser was that hurt you would never so much as breathe the same air as you again, namely on the account that Crocodile made sure they stopped breathing, period, before the two of you even left the docks for that initial trip

If you met him pre-Scarecrow, he would've been shy around you the first time you met. But, he'll eventually realise that he can trust you and that you won't judge him for anything, so you two would become very close friends.

If you met him post-Scarecrow, he's still a little bit awkward and quiet, but he's not as shy as he used to be. He would take some time to get out of his shell and trust you, but after seeing that you're nice to him and that he can trust you (because he knows you won't stab him in the back!) he'll befriend you, and you two become close.

Since you two are very close and you're kind of involved in his villainous plans (because you help him out with his fear toxin, giving him suggestions as well as preparing the chemicals), he makes sure you know how to use the fear toxin in case of an emergency, so you don't accidentally injure yourself (which, ironically, that would be his worst fear!).

He defends you a lot! This happens a lot after becoming Scarecrow, but before happened quite often, too. He doesn't care if he gets hurt when it comes to defending you, he'll beat anyone's ass if someone dares to physically or mentally hurt you in any way possible. He's your absolute protector. 💕

Practically never leaves you alone. Literally. He always takes you with him and the J squad (which you also grew close to them, but it's not the type of close relationship you have with Jonathan), because he knows that your safety might be endangered if you stay at home since you're very close to him. So, to spare a bad moment, he obliges you to go with him...and he also follows you around if you have to leave somewhere.

He practically becomes like your older brother, since he's never had siblings. He'd be sweet and gentle only for you, because you're the only person whom he shows his real emotions and feelings. When nobody is seeing you, he loves to hug you and give you big kisses on your head.

Sometimes, he babys you a lot. He likes using sweet little nicknames when it comes to you! You have nicknames for him as well, of course. He also enjoys grabbing your hand in a protective way and randomly hug you 🥰👌

When he has to become Scarecrow, he'll request your presence so you can help him with the dark makeup that's around his eyes 🥺 He loves having you do it because you're very sweet and he also likes how cool you make his makeup look.

He's not much into those things related to makeup, but if you ask him to do makeup around your eyes, he'll do his best to make you look astonishing. And if you ask him to, he'll probably also paint your nails and you paint his. That, is just an example of the type of close relationship you have 🥰

You're the only one who boosted his confidence in himself. He knows that if he feels sad, disappointed or something, or he just needs to talk about anything that's bothering him he'll always go to you, because you never fail to make him feel much better, even make him smile or laugh!

^ Same thing with you. If you need to cry on someone's shoulder or need to take some weight off of your back, he'll be there to comfort you and would make you feel like everything that surrounds you has disappeared. If you cry, he'll carefully wipe away your tears and would immediatly wrap his arms around you, asking you questions about what or who made you cry.

If someone makes you cry...oh boy, that person will surely regret it in no time. He doesn't stop until he locates that person, and once he finds them...there is no stopping. Of course, he wouldn't go beat that persons ass by himself, he'd call his little troop so they can go with him and make the persons life a literal living nightmare.

Once you two are close enough, he'll do silly things to annoy you. He'd probably joke around you. For example, he'll make you believe he was going to say something serious, and at the end he says something very stupid that makes you groan out of frustration and roll your eyes 🤭

If he sees you talking with someone who is very flirtatious with you...expect him to bomb the hell out of you with questions. Not in a toxic way, but rather in protective older brother manner. He just wants you to be safe and unhurt!

He would also "interrogate" that person and would have a private talk. If he sees that said person is a potential bastard, he'll straightly tell you to stay away from them, and he'll also personally take care of then. If not, he'll be ok with it, but he's still going to have a close eye under that person.

You're his bestie and like his younger sibling, he LOVES doing anything with you! He loves going out for a walk, watching scary movies, working on the fear toxin, and he especially loves scaring the shit out of people with you! You're the best duo ever.

When you two spend time alone, you're the one who cooks for him because he sucks at it and he really likes the way you cook for him. 🤭

Basically, you two are unseparable, you're glued together 24/7. You're siblings by heart. He's got your back, and you've got his! You are the closest friends ever, and you two would do anything for each other even if that means having to kill someone 😅 He really, really appreciates having you in his life, it always makes his heart warm a bit when he thinks about having someone like you that really cares and loves him. He giggled at your sudden outburst. "Come on, I'm nearly done. If you move I'll mess up and you'll be late." You said as you took some more of the black makeup, placing it around his eyes. "Stop whining, I'll arrive in time." Now, he wasn't as shy as he used to be when you two first met, you had boosted a lot his confidence and you were proud of it, even it that meant having to handle his cocky comments. You just smirked at him and rolled your eyes.

You finished your work rather quickly and stared at him for a few long seconds. "You look handsome as hell and mysterious." You complimented him as he gave you a big smile. "I know! No need to tell me." He winked at you and teasingly you hit his shoulder in a soft and playful manner, causing both of you to chuckle. "You're an idiot..." Wanting to waste no more time, you looked for his Scarecrow costume and handed it to him so he could change. "Go on, change so you can leave." He grabbed it, and you left him alone in his privacy so he could change.

He then walked out of the room already changed as Scarecrow. You turned around to look at him with your lips formed into a big smile. He widely opened his arms, and embraced you in a tight and loving hug. You were kind of surprised because of his actions, since he wasn't the type to randomly hug someone like you did with him.

It wasn't that he didn't show you affection, quite the contrary, he was extremely loving to you, but it wasn't like he randomly showed love out of nowhere. "Thank you for being there for me, and helping me out with everything." He quietly muttered to you as he petted your hair. You eventually returned the hug and pressed yourself against his body and closed your eyes, forgetting about everything that surrounded you two.

"Of course. That's what friends do. I love you, you're my best friend, Scarecrow."

You stood a few minutes like that until his time to leave home for the meeting came. You both waved each other goodbye, and you decided to read a book while you waited for him. The whole time he was away, your mind couldn't stop wandering how lucky you were to have him as your friend, and your protector. Nothing could separate you two.
