I'm sure there are plenty of people who might feel differently, especially if they're younger than me (I'm 27), but for me I definitely feel this might be more noticeable a phenomenon in the US than the UK?
Kind of, anyway. The freedom of my teenage years compared to the freedom of those in prior generations seems like it was more limited, and there were definitely opportunities my parents had that would have been unimaginable to me. (Backpacking around Europe without a mobile phone on hand, for instance.) And 100% we're experiencing the erosion of safe, free/cheap public spaces for young people to be, and the rampant capitalism forcing us to prioritise work over actually living life happily 🙃
But on the other side, I've been taking the bus by myself since I was 11 -- some of my friends lived way out of town, so to meet up either they or I would have to do the 1/2 hour bus journey. It wasn't a problem for me to catch a train to London - 40+ miles away - with a group of friends from when I was about 16 or so, and just wander about there for the day. And on a regular weekend, I could walk pretty easily into town from our suburb - about 40 minutes, 50 perhaps to the cinema?
Hell, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions are a common sight each summer - a group of 14+ yos with backpacks practically as big as them wandering around the countryside for 3 days, trying to follow a route on a map, maybe having an adult check in on them 3-5 times in the day but otherwise left to their own devices and to walk miles in the wrong direction if they make a mistake. The shit we got up to in the campsites was real 😂
I feel like a lot of teens get a chance to do do young, dumb stuff in college, too (college in the UK being an optional educational institution for 16-18yos instead of staying on at secondary school.) (That's very simplified but shh.) It would depend where you are in the country I guess but definitely both of my 25yo housemates have some wild stories from college. Plenty of 17/18 yos I know went interrailing for a few weeks in Europe, too (although I know that's more difficult for the current generation with Brexit and price hikes and such).
And then as well if teens do go to uni* they're usually able to drink straight away, being 18 (which is debatable whether or not it's a good thing I guess) but Freshers' Weeks are certainly always wild and pubs and clubs always seem busy in uni towns -- and tbh I have friends who still regularly go clubbing well into their twenties, if it's their thing. And like, whatever you're doing when you're 18, you'll be able to hang out at a pub in the evening, and just have a chill night with your friends - half of us don't even drink alcohol. (I do feel minorly bad for always asking for tap water, but 🤷♀️. Sorry local pub for maybe spending only £20 there in the past 10 years 🙈 )
*(which I think is easier here? You only pay one ~$35 fee to apply to ALL your unis, not one-by-one, and our loans are less aggressive here too -- you don't pay them back until you're earning £25k ($30k) and they're written off after 30 years -- so it's more manageable to go? [Though don't get me wrong, it's still a damn sight harder if you're not middle-class+])
Ugh, sorry, this got long -- I don't want to diminish the importance of what you've all said because it's true. And it's been 8 years since I was a teenager, so younger folks might feel their freedom's been diminished since then. But at a time where social media was very much a thing, I had a 3/14/40 mile radius as a teen and it just doesn't ring true that we didn't get the chance to do dumb, stupid shit. 🤷♀️
Maybe this is the wrong platform to pose this question given the average tumblr user but
Is it just me or did our generation (those of is who are currently 20-30 ish) just not get the opportunity to be young in the 'standard' sense?
Like, everyone I talk to who's over 40 has all their wild stories about their teens and 20s, being young and dumb, and then I talk to my friends and coworkers and classmates, and we just... dont.
#oh gosh and i've just remembered our school trips too#in a foreign country as 13 yos so long as there were four of us we were allowed to wander off and explore the area for a few hours#we even literally had an assignment to go up to random germans and ask them a list of questions to practise our german#idk it's definitely not the same thing but still...#personal#uk comaprison#sorry this just snagged on my mind and i couldn't let it go.

Sweet as a Berry
Pairing: Farmer!Bucky Barnes x Female!Reader

Your weekly trip to the farmers market was one you looked forward to. A place for merchants to come together to offer an abundance of products, there was always something to browse or discover. Today you only had one thing on your list: berries for your pies. Frozen fruit did the job, but you preferred to bake your pies with fresh fruit. Buying from the market was also a way to support local farmers. Maybe one day you'd even bag a handsome farmer for yourself. It was a silly fantasy, of course, but your mind liked to wander some days.
Not that there was anything wrong with city men, but they couldn't compare to a man working on a farm. There was just something about a guy who knew how to work with nature and provide, wasn't intimidated by hard work or afraid to get his hands dirty, and had a strong body and character due to his work ethic. You liked to think you’d make a good wife and take care of him the way he’d take care of you. You also liked to imagine a handsome man walking inside after a long day and stripping down and wanting dessert before a hearty meal. And by dessert, you meant you.
For now, you were only a farmer’s wife in your dreams and journal.
The gravel crunched under your tires as you turned down the road, the market coming into focus. You made good time and managed to snag a decent parking space. A little bit of walking wouldn’t hurt. Plus the day was nice enough that you wore one of your sundresses, the soft breeze pleasant against your skin once you got out of your car.
Lively chatter greeted you as you got closer to the stalls and booths and expertly weaved your way through the bustling crowd. The various produce and flowers created a kaleidoscope of colors, brightened more by the brilliant rays coming from the sun. The earthy fragrance that blended with the sweet and ripe aromas was one you only encountered here. There was nothing else quite like it.
Quick movement in front of you made you come to a stop, your heart jumping. Had you not been paying attention you would've collided with a little boy. “Mama, there's Dada! He’s getting honey!” He shouted as he ran past and threw his arms around a man’s legs.
“Walk, please, and watch where you're going!” His mother said after him, a both fond and exasperated look on her face as she gave you a tired smile. “I’m so sorry about that.”
“No apologies,” you smiled. He hadn't done anything wrong. “I wish I had that energy.”
“Same. I’d bottle and sell it,” she said over her shoulder.
Watching as the woman went to her son and husband, both of them looking at her like the sun rose today because of her, you felt a twinge of sadness. Your trips to the market were solo, always had been. You longed to have a partner to go with, someone to put his arm around you or hold your hand as you picked out items together. Even better if the two of you could make a family down the line.
With a wistful smile, you shook yourself from those thoughts. There was no reason to feel sorry for yourself. Just because you didn't have that in the present didn't mean it wouldn't happen in the future. You had to have faith that the right one would come along at the right time.
For now, you would find some berries and be on your way.
Walking a bit further, you spotted a booth you hadn't seen in your previous visits. The sign that read “Barnes’s Berries” complete with hand painted fruit pieces piqued your curiosity as you stopped in front of it. As the customers in front of you paid for their bundles and blocked the view of the person assisting them, you took a minute to admire the range of berries reflecting a spectrum from blues to reds. Your mouth watered from the sight. There were so many things you could do with these. Pies, jams, cakes-
A deep, husky voice asked, “Is there anything I can help you with?”
You made some sort of sound as you turned around, your heart pounding in your chest. The man in front of you was tall with thick thighs that deliciously filled out his jeans. The rolled up plaid shirt exposed part of his arms. The left was covered in tattoos and the ink couldn't hide the muscles or veins. If anything, it accentuated his strength. His chest and shoulders seemed to go on for miles, too. The chestnut hair that fell below his chin and stubble on his face gave the already handsome man a rugged look.
Sapphire eyes crinkled when you made eye contact and he smiled so softly that you couldn't help but smile in return. A man of his size and stature working a berry stand when he looked like he could easily chop wood or build his own home was otherworldly. He didn't just step out of your fantasy. He took your thoughts and made them better than you could've imagined.
“Is there anything I can help you with?” He asked again a bit hesitantly when you didn’t answer his question. “If you're still looking, please, take your time.”
“You’re real, right?” You asked, your face heating up as the words left your mouth. A giggle followed because you couldn’t believe you just said that. “What I meant to say is, yeah. Just looking for now,” you added to save face, smoothing out your dress for no reason.
Amusement filled his eyes, the soft smile still tugging at his lips. “I sure hope I’m real and not just a figment of your imagination.”
You wished you could reach out and touch him to “prove” he was real, but didn’t want to weird him out. “Not a figment of my imagination,” you said, but that wasn’t totally true. You very much imagined a man like him when you were alone at night. “But I don’t think I’ve seen you here before.” It wasn't like you knew every single vendor, but you would've remembered him.
He sure as hell had a face worth remembering.
“I’m Bucky,” he introduced, offering you his hand. His grip was gentler than you expected, but there was no mistaking the roughness in his touch. The man worked with his hands and it showed. “This is actually my first week here.”
You said your name, proud that you remembered it with the way he was staring so intently at you. He stood a bit close, too. Close enough that you could smell his woodsy cologne. Subtle, yet enticing. “I hope everyone has been welcoming.”
“Most have been very friendly, which has made my job easy,” he said. You could imagine with his looks and friendly demeanor despite his size that he’d have a lot of repeat customers. “A couple of my friends recently started selling here, too, so it’s good to have some familiar faces close by.”
“That’s really nice. I’m sure they're glad you're close by, too,” you smiled. You wondered who his friends were. “Did you have to travel far to get here?”
“Yeah, they’re good guys,” he smiled back, your heart racing when he ran a hand through his hair. “Not too far since my farm is only a few miles away, which also makes things easier. Makes me wonder why I didn't do this sooner.”
You nearly swooned. Your dream man was becoming dreamier by the second. “You have a farm not too far from here?”
It would’ve been easy to assume he did since he had a stand here, but not everyone who worked the market had their own land. It was also easy to assume he wasn't married since you didn't see a ring on his left hand or any sort of tan line or indentation to indicate that he removed a ring. A man like that though probably had a partner. It wasn't worth getting your hopes up.
“Yeah. I have a few acres. Beautiful place. but if I’m being honest it gets a bit lonely since it’s just me out there with no one to share it with.” He scratched the back of his neck with a small chuckle and avoided your gaze. “I don't know why I said that. That’s kind of embarrassing.”
Your stomach did a funny flip. Not just because he pretty much let it slip that he wasn't with anyone when you assumed moments ago that he was, but from the urge to comfort him taking over. You wished you could wrap him in a hug.
“Well, I don't have a farm, but I understand feeling lonely some days,” you admitted. Being vulnerable with a complete stranger wasn't how you expected your day to go, but you wanted him to know he wasn't alone in that feeling. “And it’s not embarrassing,” you assured him. If anything, it was endearing.
He slowly met your gaze. “I appreciate that.” He rubbed the back of his neck again as your heart began to race. “I hope you don’t mind me saying so, but I find it hard to believe that someone as sweet and beautiful as you gets lonely.”
The compliment left you momentarily dazed before a shy smile graced your face. You could've said the same thing about him. Maybe the instant connection you felt wasn’t so one-sided. “Well, I do. Even coming here, I’m usually by my lonesome” you said, the words not at all bitter. Just honest. “And do you call all potential customers sweet and beautiful?”
“No, I don’t.” He continued to gaze at you before he cleared his throat. “But you said potential customer. If I made you uncomfortable…”
“You didn’t.” It was gentlemanly that he wanted to make sure that his comment didn’t put you off. “There’s a stand a little further down that I sometimes stop at, though your berries are extremely tempting.”
Bucky’s brows pinched before he snapped his fingers. “Jed, right? He’s actually not here this week. Had an accident recently. Broke his leg.”
You gasped. “Oh, my god. That’s awful.” Jed was a kind, older farmer who had been there for as long as you could remember. A hard worker who didn’t deserve any kind of pain. “I hope he heals quickly.”
Bucky nodded solemnly. “So, do I,” he said, clearing his throat. “I’m no Jed, but is there anything I can do to get your business today?”
The hopeful look in his blue eyes had you smiling slightly. “Well, I-”
“Wait. Let me try to guess what you’re specifically looking for before you tell me.” He waited until you nodded. “Clearly berries, but not for anything like a fruit salad or an everyday snack,” He rubbed his chin thoughtfully and you tried not to giggle when he grinned triumphantly. “Pies. You want berries to make pies. Blueberries, right? Maybe blackberries, too. And if I had to pick a third, raspberries.”
Your mouth fell open. Was he a mind reader? “Yeah, that’s exactly it. Blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. I have this triple berry pie recipe that I love and I make the crust from scratch and…” You bit your lip to keep from rambling. He didn’t need to hear all that. “Sorry. I just like to bake.”
“No apologies.” His light touch to your arm surprised you as he met your gaze. “You sound very passionate about it and I like that.”
You found yourself nodding, unable to tear your gaze away. It took everything within you to not blurt out how gorgeous he was. And on top of that, he was kind? Maybe he wasn’t real. “I am passionate about it. And not just pies. Other treats, too,” you said, nodding to the strawberries. “Those would be perfect for mini shortcakes or scones.”
He studied you with an appreciative smirk. The sundress was a good choice. “I have no doubt your treats are delicious and you are making me very hungry,” he said, your heart thudding. The smirk disappeared as quickly as it appeared when he gestured to his stand. “And I think they’ll be tastier with my berries.”
You blinked, stuck on the fact that he called your treats delicious. It wasn’t a big deal. It wasn’t like he called you delicious and he hadn’t tasted anything of yours, though you’d find a way to bake something and deliver it to him personally if he asked. “You sound very confident, Bucky.”
He puffed his chest out. “I take a lot of pride in all my crops. Tell you what,” he said, stepping away from you to grab a sample cup. “Why don’t you try some and see how you like them? If they aren't the best berries you’ve ever tasted, I’ll shut my stand down and let you on your way.”
“You’ll really shut your stand down? That’s a big wager,” you smiled, his fingers touching yours as he handed the cup over. It heated you up all over again. “The look of them alone is amazing,” you said, the vibrant berries beckoning for you to have a bite.
“Taste amazing, too, but I’ll let you be the judge of that.”
Bucky shot you a dazzling smile as you tried the blueberry first since that was the berry you were most interested in purchasing today. You didn’t care if it was mortifying, you outright moaned at the flavor when you bit down on the small and plump piece of fruit. Not overly sweet or acidic as the juice coated your tongue. It was the perfect balance. So much that you licked your lips and craved another.
Your eyes honed in on the rise and fall of Bucky’s chest before your gaze flickered to his face. His eyes were darker and you realized after a moment that he was staring at your mouth. A look like that could’ve made you choke on your breath, but it somehow gave you a burst of confidence. Testing the waters, you tried the blackberry next and made a show of licking your lips again at the sweet and succulent taste. The groan he let out shot a burst of heat between your legs.
God, he looked like he was ready to eat you whole.
“Delicious,” you said in a sultry voice you didn't recognize.
“You, um…” He brought a hand up and brushed his thumb along the corner of your mouth. You quivered when he showed you the drop of juice that you missed. Without breaking eye contact, he licked the drop away. It was a look that melted your insides when he said in a gruff tone, “You're right. Delicious.”
“Excuse me?” A woman spoke, making you jump back a bit from Bucky and pulling you both out of the moment. She might as well have dumped a bucket of cold water over your head. “I’d like to buy these.”
Your heart continued to race when you saw disappointment flash in his eyes. “Go ahead,” you smiled. He was there to do a job after all, not chat and flirt with you. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Bucky turned his head toward the customer. “Of course, ma’am,” he smiled, still glancing back at you momentarily as if was afraid you’d walk away if he didn’t keep an eye on you.
Biting your lip, you held in a giggle as you tossed the sample cup into the small wastebasket. You swore you felt him gazing at you as you gathered up the bundles. Maybe you didn’t need to bend so far over to get the last bundle, but was it wrong that you wanted him to look? It wasn’t every day that you had a kind, handsome farmer flirting with you. It would have you walking on cloud nine for the rest of the day.
Turning toward the table to pay, you gasped when you nearly collided with Bucky. He managed to grab your arms to keep you from falling and you somehow didn’t drop a single bundle as he stared into your eyes. “You know, I think you’re even sweeter than my berries,” he spoke in a low voice, swiftly taking everything from your hands and lining them in a box before your brain could process what he said. “This everything then?”
“Yeah.” You blinked and got your money out to pay. “Thanks. And keep the change.”
He shook his head when he saw the amount you gave him. “Oh, I couldn’t do that.”
“Please. I insist,” you smiled. He took a lot of pride in his work and any extra change could go toward that.
“I’ll keep it on two conditions,” he said, nodding to the box. “One, you let me be a gentleman and help you carry that to your car, that way you’re not stuck carrying it around.”
You nodded, butterflies in your stomach. “Okay, if you insist on being a gentleman.” He was nice enough that he wanted to step away from his stand and carry something for you. He really kept getting better and better. “And the second condition?” You asked with a coy smile. Maybe if you were lucky enough he’d ask for your number.
He reached behind him and presented you with another sample cup. “One more for the road? Please?”
You stamped down your disappointment that he didn’t ask for your number, which was more than okay. “How can I say no to that?” You popped the berries into your mouth without hesitation. They tasted ever sweeter than the first sample you had and you watched his eyes go to your neck as you swallowed. “Thanks. You really do have a gift,” you added to distract you from his heated gaze.
He looked humbled by the compliment. “I really do appreciate that,” he said, glancing over your shoulder to nod at someone. “Steve! You mind watching the stand until I get back? I’m gonna help her carry these to her car.”
You turned just in time to see a gorgeous blonde just as large as Bucky jog over from the stand across the way. “That’s nice of you, jerk. Real gentlemanly,” he smiled, giving you a small nod. “Ma’am.”
“Punk,” Bucky mumbled, but the affection was evident.
Another giggle worked its way out. Where did these men suddenly come from? Was there something in the water you didn’t know about? “You don’t need to call me ma’am, but thank you. And you’re right.” Your eyes went back to Bucky. “He is a gentleman.”
“And this is my cue to get you away from my friend before he says otherwise,” Bucky teased, steering you away with one hand while he balanced your fruit in the other.
“I don’t think I’ve seen him here either.”
“That was one of the friends I was talking about earlier. Has a farm, too, but his real passion is art,” he explained, his arm brushing against yours as he walked close. “He actually helped make my sign since I’m hopeless with that stuff.”
“That’s really nice,” you said, falling into a comfortable silence with him as you both maneuvered your way through the crowd. Once you got to the parking area, you pointed out your vehicle. “I’m just over there.”
Bucky’s gaze flickered over to you as you got your keys out. “I’m really glad you stopped at my stand today.”
Your heart fluttered when you caught the sun shining along his hair. “I’m glad I did, too,” you said softly, unlocking the car so he could set everything inside. Thank God it was clean. That would’ve been embarrassing. “But I should let you get back to work.”
He shifted on his feet, like he wasn’t quite ready to go. “Yeah, I should go.” He stepped forward and took a breath. “But I don’t think I can go back before I ask you to go on a date with me.”
You blinked. This wasn’t a drill. Bucky was asking you out. His tone was so gentle, his gaze so compelling. He was mesmerizing. He could’ve asked you to do anything and you likely would’ve done so without question.
“You want to take me out on a date?” You questioned, your mind screaming that your response was the wrong answer. This wasn’t a fantasy. It was really happening.
With an unsure chuckle, Bucky brushed a hand through his hair. “Too forward?” He smiled a little. “I’m sorry. I just thought that we…”
Your heart reacted to his uncertainty. It took a lot for anyone to put themselves out there and you wanted him to know it was worth the risk. “Not too forward at all, Bucky,” you smiled and placed your hand on his left arm, happy when he smiled back. “I'd love to go out with you.”
He took your hand in his when you went to pull your hand back. “I’m really glad you said yes,” he whispered.
“Me, too,” you sighed at his warm touch. It was the beginning of something special. You could tell. “So, when would you like to go on that date?”
And that is our intro! Now here is where it gets interesting: This story will go down two paths, one light and one dark. Be on the lookout for the continuation and choose your path (or choose both 😏). Love and thanks for reading! ❤️

Braids
Pairing: Nat x you
Words: 1100
Warnings: none
Summary: You and Natasha had only been together for a few weeks when you ask to braid her hair.
Notes: Yikes. It’s been a while. I’m so sorry. I hope this cute fic makes up for it.
The atmosphere was almost peaceful as both you and Natasha lounged on separate sides of the couch. You were idly watching her from the corner of her eye as she focuses on the laptop screen in front of her, hands distractedly flickering through the pages of the book you were planning on starting.
She was clad in one of your hoodies along with a pair of grey shorts; her hair down and a little mused from the way she would continuously run her hand through it. You often found yourself wondering if it was as soft as it looked. How soft it would feel in between your fingers.
You see, you and Natasha had only been together a little over four weeks, so the tentative relationship you did have was still very new. You'd held hands once or twice. Kissed a few times more. Chaste pecks that never trailed off into anything more. But that was it. No hugs had been given, and you'd yet to know how it felt to hold her body against your own.
Though you longed to hold her in your arms, you found that you didn't quite mind waiting. Good things come to those who wait after all. Well, that and the fact you knew months before you'd started dating that she was a very guarded person, and that wasn't going to change just because the label on what you were was different.
"I can feel you watching me, you know." You hear her speak, and your eyes flicker away from her hair to her face. Her eyes, you notice, remain on her computer screen, but the tiny smile present on her lips does not go amiss.
You sigh contently as you turn in your seat to face her, your back now pressed against the arm of the couch whilst your legs sprawl out in front of you. "Just admiring." You admit, your voice a mere murmur.
Natasha's fingers still on the keyboard of her laptop as her eyes finally meet your own. The emotion in them was undecipherable, just like always, but they do soften at the sight of you sitting before her. You couldn't help but melt slightly at the sight as you reach over to the coffee table and set down the book you never did get the chance to open.
Eyes once again meeting her own, you finally bring yourself to ask the question that had been on the forefront of your mind since you'd sat down.
"Can I braid your hair?"
You brace yourself for the rejection, but much to your dismay, it doesn't come. At least, not straight away. Natasha simply stares at you, mouth slightly agape as though she was attempting find a plausible answer to your question.
She clears her throat, eyes flickering away from you for just a moment before they return.
"Braid my hair?" She seems to finally find her voice, the sound of it alone making your heart race.
You nod, swallowing the sudden tightness in your own throat. Natasha stares at you for a little moment longer before she nods. It was just once, almost unnoticeable, but it was all the confirmation you needed. With more confidence than you felt, you let one of your legs fall to the floor and pat the now open space in between them.
Natasha hesitates for only a second before she was setting down her laptop and scooting herself towards you. As she settles, you place your hands on either side of her waist in a silent question. It was only when she nods again do you tug her backwards just slightly, the insides of your thighs now settled snuggly on either side of her hips.
"Good?" You question in a mere murmur, and she vocalises her agreement with a soft hum as your hands begin combing through her hair. It wasn't necessarily tangled, but you didn't want to accidentally snag any loose strands like you tended to do with your own hair. Soon, you'd parted the top her hair into three thin strands in preparation to start the intended dutch braid.
A comfortable silence seems to settle upon you, and you can't help but smile softly when you feel Natasha's hands rest almost tentatively on each of your thighs. You risk a gentle kiss against the back of her head, immediately rewarded by the feeling of her body relaxing completely against you.
"Nearly done." You reluctantly break the silence as your fingers begin to quickly finish the braid, and Natasha hums in acknowledgment as you grab the hair tie off of your wrist and secure it with ease. As you bring your now unoccupied hands back down to your lap, you watch as one of Natasha's own rises to feel the top of her head. It lingers for just a second before a satisfied hum escapes her lips.
"Dutch?" She questions knowingly, and you smirk slightly as you nod your head and place another kiss to the back of her head.
"Good guess." You muse, and Natasha looks back at you with a smirk of her own.
"It wasn't a guess." She tells you simply as her head settles against your shoulder.
"You're just that good huh?" You tease, craning your head slightly to you were more or less face to face with her.
"Damn right." Natasha smirks as she leans forward to affectionately graze the tip of her nose against your cheek, the appendage scrunching up cutely when you press a gentle kiss to it, and you roll your eyes fondly as your arms settle around her waist.
Tight enough for her to feel secure, but loose enough that should she choose leave your arms, she could do so without issue.
Your heart races when Natasha settles her hands atop of your own, choosing wisely to ignore the way they tremble slightly with what you could only assume was nerves. Instead, you simply press your lips against her forehead hoping to alleviate whatever fear may be there.
"Nobody likes a smart ass." You murmur as you pull away.
"No?" Natasha grins slyly as she turns herself in your arms so she was more or less cradled. You accept the change of position with ease, keeping one of your arms beneath her whilst the other loops around her stomach to meet the other that had come to rest on her hip. "You like me."
You sigh heavily in fake exasperation, "Unfortunatel-Hey! What was that for?!"
**
I hope you enjoyed 😊

CHAPTER 1: New Beginnings
Running, you couldn't stop running until you were sure that it was safe to stop. There was an opportunity for you to escape from your ex-boyfriend, and you took it, only taking with you whatever cash you had left, and to be honest, it wasn't that much, $100 can't do much in today's time but you'll figure it out, but it was better than nothing. So here you are running for what felt like days but had only been hours, it was rainy and cold, your soaking wet, the ground muddy and mud covering the ankles of your jeans, your shirt a bit torn a result from snagging on a couple of branches, and hair a mess with leaves sticking to your wet hair. You spot a distant light that looks to be 1-2 miles away. You decide to rest until you catch your breath, and then you'll start running again. After you caught your breath, you started running towards the light, and as the light got closer you saw that it was village and slowed to a walk.
As you approached the village, the inhabitants were giving you strange looks from shock to disgust, but you paid no mind, as you noticed a church, and you were only focused on heading to the church that was on top of the hill. As you reached the top of the hill, you noticed a large willow tree, and the church looked rundown but gave it that slight gothic touch. You walked towards the church and opened the door, "hello is anybody in here?" You walked in the church looking around. "Who goes there?" An unknown voice resonates through the inside of the church. "My name is y/n and I'm in need of assistance, I was hoping that the church would help me, I don't have much, I ran away from my abusive ex-boyfriend I just need a place to stay and then I'll leave to another village please I need your help" Price steps out and greets y/n, "hello y/n I'm Father Price, I'm the preacher of this village. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, I know some people who are willing to help you. You are also in need of some clothing. I'll see what I can do with that. Now follow me. I'm sure you can use a meal, a warm shower, and a cozy bed."
You breathed a sigh of relief "thank you so much but before we go, I'd like to make a prayer, on how thankful I am that I found refuge and that I am now safe, if that's ok with you." Price smile at what y/n said, "a devoted follower. Of course, we can pray. Let's go to the altar so we can pray." Price leads y/n to the alter. When approaching the alter y/n sees a symbol there's a skull but the lower jaw is missing, and there's a sword with wings coming out of the sword, and on each side, there is a viny plant and to the back of it all there was a black spade, 'must be the religious symbol' y/n thought to herself. "Give me your hands so that our lord can hear your prayers better." Y/n held out her hands for Father Price to hold. Price then starts the prayer for y/n. After the prayer, Father Price asks, "Do you have any offerings for our lord?" Shocked y/n replies with defeat, "I only have $100, and I can't use it all. I need it to help me get back on my feet." Price gently cups y/n face with one hand and swipes his thumb left and right on y/n's lower lip, "my child you seem to be a very devoted follower of our lord, if you give him that offering, he will definitely bless you, your $100 would turn into $100,000 and you would definitely get back on your feet. My 2 friends they had nothing but $50 combined, and they offered their money, and now they both have their own tavern here in this very village."
Y/n contemplated it's the least she could do after all. Father Price did help her out in her time of need, "where can I put my offering?" She said while taking out her $100. "You can place it in the black obsidian bowl." She places her money in the bowl and says a thank you, "thank you, my child. I'm sure our Lord is thankful for that generous offer. Come let me take you to a nice spot that I know so we can get some food in you and a warm bed." Price then takes y/n's hand then leads her into the town and takes her to the tavern, when they both enter the tavern, the place goes quiet cause the people rarely see Father Price outside of the church and that he also has an outsider with him. "Well, well, well, who do you have there, Father Price?"

First Crush - 5
You arrive at the Tower, Abby woken up early, excited about surprising Bucky. She holds your hand and does her version of skipping as you make your way to Bucky's office. You run into Captain Rogers in the hallway, "Abigail Rose! Good morning! Hey, Y/N. What are you guys doing here?"
"Hi Cap. Do you remember Captain Rogers, Abby? He's Sergeant Barnes' friend."
"Morning, Mr. Captain." Abby moves closer to you & wraps an arm around your leg.
"Abby wanted to leave Sergeant Barnes a surprise."
Kneeling down, "You brought Bucky a surprise?"
Abby nods cupping her hands around her mouth, "It's secret."
"Oooh, ok." He smiles at her, "I better let you guys get to it. Have fun."
*****
Bucky dropped by his office on his way to the gym to get in a workout. His phone bings with a text.
Steve: Incoming. Surprise headed your way.
Then he hears Abby's chattering approach his office. You lightly knock on his open door & Abby squeals & jumps up & down.
"Abby! How are you?"
She looks up at you and you smile, giving a small nod before she runs over to Bucky's side. "Mr. S'gent, you're home!" He notices, she places her hands on his Vibranium arm while hopping up & down & it makes him laugh.
"You can call me Bucky."
"Mr. Bucky."
"No, just Bucky."
Nodding, "ok." Her smile is from ear to ear.
You step just inside the doorway, "Sorry to interrupt, but Abby wanted to drop something off for you." Abby runs over to you holding out her hands as you pull her letter out of your backpack.
"Tank you, Mama!" She hurries back to Bucky's side & he lifts her onto his lap. "I mades it."
"Did you? Wow!" He puts the drawing on his desk. "Is this...you?"
"Uh huh! The banoons is 'cos you did a good work."
"This is beautiful, Abby. Thank you so much."
Leaning back against his chest, "You melcome."
"It's welcome."
"It's what i says, you melcome." You smirk & shake your head.
Bucky shrugs, "I understood it perfectly."
Your heart is about to explode. Abby is thrilled to see Bucky again and you've never seen Bucky this animated before. He's really not as intimidating as you once thought.
"Baby, we better go and let Bucky get back to his busy day."
"Mama?"
"Yes?"
"Cans Bucky comes with us?" You meet Bucky's blue eyes over Abby's head. He cocks an eyebrow at you.
"He might have plans, honey."
"I wasn't doing much today. I was just headed to the gym," he smiles at you.
"Wants to picnic? I gots bread for the ducks. I can share wit yous."
"You know what? I love to picnic!" He looks down at Abby's surprised face & laughs.
"See Mama! He loves it!" Clapping her hands, "Comes, let's go!" She hops off Bucky's lap & tries to pull him up.
Bucky takes his new drawing & closing the door he tacks it up on a corkboard he has behind his door. It joins the first drawing Abby gave him. You see that & you smile at him.
Again, Abby almost loses her mind. "Mama lookit!" Bucky picks her up so she can view it better. "My mama said you can't forget me because you has my drawing and sticker."
"Forget you?? I could never forget you." Abby hugs him around the neck & kicks her legs in joy. You grab her legs before she kicks him in the groin.
"Careful Abby." You look at Bucky & laugh.
"Do you mind if we stop off in the residence? I'll grab my stuff & we can go."
"No, that's fine."
There are a few floors restricted for agents that reside in the building. He brings you upstairs & you wait in the common area while Bucky grabbed his own back pack for the picnic.
*****
Stopping at a deli to get sandwiches for lunch, Bucky ended up picking up the tab and adding a bunch of cookies and brownies for dessert. Abby gets a special ride on the shoulders of the Winter Soldier. She's never been so high up & couldn't stop giggling.
You were able to snag a small spot near the pond, spreading out a blanket under a shaded tree. It was such nice day. You brought some bubbles so Abby ran around trying to pop them. Bucky would blow and you and Abby would compete to pop the most. The 3 of you played tag. You wore Abby out. Soon as she ate her lunch she was out like a light for her nap.
Carding your fingers through her hair as she sleeps, "Thank you so much for joining us and for lunch. She's never had so much fun."
"Thanks for letting me come along. I don't think I've picnicked like this since 1935."
He talks about his life before the war. His friendship with Steve. A little bit of how he's still trying to assimilate to being an Avenger. He's enjoyed the day because he never gets the chance to...play.
"I think you've got an open invitation from this one here."
Bucky laughs. "How old is she?"
"She's 3."
"She's very... articulate."
"You can say it. She's a chatterbox. She doesn't stop talking. Even when it was just jibberish, she didn't stop. It used to drive her father nuts. He didn't have a lot of patience."
"He's still in the picture?"
You shake your head, "He passed away last year."
Bucky frowns, "I'm sorry for you loss."
Everytime you hear those words you feel guilty. You feel like you should feel a loss, yet you don't. Not really. You were dating Abby's father for about 6 months when you found out you were pregnant. It wasn't planned. You and Jason weren't even talking about marriage. And yet you decided to get married because of the baby and that was a mistake. Jason wasn't ready to be a father. You're not even sure he enjoyed fatherhood while he was alive. He was on deployment or missions and away from home a lot. His life didn't change much. You were already thinking of asking for a divorce. He didn't take an active part in raising Abby. He would never have gone on picnics with you and Abby, let alone run around and play tag with you both. Or blow bubbles.
"Thank you."
"So, its just you two now?" You smile and nod. He gives an off-key rendition of Bill Withers "Just the Two of Us," which makes you snort laugh. "C'mon, I wasn't that bad!"
Abby stirs awake from your laughter and Bucky's outrage. "Mama?"
"I'm sorry, Baby. Did we wake you up?" You lift her onto your lap and she snuggles in, sticking her thumb in her mouth. "Did you have a good sleep?" She nods. "It takes her a while to wake up." You rub her back.
"She woke up just in time for the ducks."
Abby pops her thumb out of her mouth, "Ducks?" She stands and wobbles like a drunk person so Bucky reached out for her. "Bucky, yous ready for ducks??"
"Whoa, take it easy." He laughs at Abby's excitement to feed the ducks. He scoops her up while you find your stash of stale bread. You make your way to the waters edge, and Abby instructs Bucky on the proper way to throw bread at the ducks. "Don't hit them in the head."
Bucky looks at you weirdly. "She used to try and aim for their mouths & would hit them in the head. I told her it's not nice and to aim for the water in front of them." Bucky laughs.
Once the bread is gone, you start packing up your things. "If you come back to the Tower, I can grab my car & take you guys home."
"It's ok, the Metro stop is close to our building."
Bucky insists, "It's no problem. Really."
"You don't have a carseat. Abby needs a carseat."
"Ooooh. Right," Bucky frowns.
"We're fine. I promise. We do this all the time," you give him a reassuring smile. "Baby, come say bye to Bucky."
Abby runs over & launches herself at Bucky, who quickly catches her. She gives him a loud kiss on his cheek. "Tank you for my samich & cookie."
"You're welcome. I had fun today."
"ME TOO!!!" Bucky picks her up & plops her on his shoulders.
Reaching for her, "I got her."
"I'll walk you guys to the station at least." He grabs your hand in his and you all head off to the Metro.

Just Like A Movie (Matt Sturniolo fluff)
Description: After a morning of fliming, Matt wants to enjoy fall activites with his girlfriend (reader). Inspired the song by the Wallows and Matt's love for fall time.
Word count: 1.4K
Warnings: None, just fluffy and silly Matt!
A/N: This is my first Matt writing, so sorry if it's not totally accurate! Lol I do requests! Currently anything Chris, Matt, Nick, and Colby!
----
Matt, Chris, and Nick were filming a guess 21 different halloween candies challenge. You sat on the couch behind the camera, scrolling through your phone but periodically looked up to glance at your boyfriend. Who would cheese when you did. Sometimes you'd make a silly face or comment, distracting him enough they'd have to restart part of the segment. Finally, they finish and Matt was the one closest to getting them all right. It wasn't surprising since he'd won guessing 21 different drinks.
Matt makes his way to the couch and wrapped his arms around you immediately. He nustles his head into your shoulder for a couple minutes and you run your fingertips up and down his back. Then he gives you a quick peck on the lips, mostly because Nick and Chris were still in the kitchen and they would make jokes about it.
You lick your lips and furrow your brows. "Hmm... I taste Snickers? No, Reese's?"
"(y/n)!" Matt whines lightly.
"Wait, wait, wait." You kiss his soft lips again. "It's Kitkat!"
A giggle escapes Matt and he lightly rolls his blue eyes. "Can we go do fall things, babe? Get away from those idiots over there. I've had enough of them today."
Nick flips him off as Chris fake laughs and makes a face. "So unoriginal Matt."
Now you roll your eyes. "Let's leave these losers to their lame things."
----
"I can drive if you want, babe," you suggest as you make it out the door after Matt changed his outfit to fit the vibe more. It's early afternoon now and barely a breeze to make it feel like a real fall day.
He shoots you a side smile and unclips the keys from his jean beltloop. "No, that's okay, I don't mind."
The two of you get comfortable in the front seats, starting up the recent playlist you created.
"Where to first?" you ask.
"What about... apple patch? Wait, I mean pumpkin picking... Fuck, I mean apple picking and then a pumpkin patch."
You reach out and lace your fingers with his. "I'd love to go to an apple patch and pumpkin picking. Maybe hot cocoa after?"
He nods and you put in the directions for the nearest apple picking farm. The two of you sing along. And you couldn't help pointing out people going about their daily lives. It takes up most of your conversation before you arrive at the farm.
Matt locks the car before he clips them back on the their loop and takes your hand. The apple farm was free to anyone, but they had a jar and square for donations/tips. You take out your card for them to do a $5 donation, and Matt doubles the amount.
You take a small basket and pull him over to one of the trees. Unfortunately most of the reachable ones were picked. But both of you still attempt to get one or two by running and jumping. You know you look like idiots, however you didn't care.
Matt gets a video of you as you finally acquire an apple and show it triumphantly. "That's right. No tree is a match for me! This apple is my bitch." You bite a chunk of the crispy green apple.
Matt laughs. "Babe, we're supposed to save them to make caramel apples!"
Your eyes go wide and you laugh as you chew it to a point you could speak. "Sorry, I can get another one."
He slips his phone back into his pocket as he shakes his head. "Let's try a different tree.
The second tree was a similar situation despite it just being on the brink of fall. There were a lot of early birds.
This time you get a story of Matt snagging two apples and he tries to not show how out of breath he is. "Ahh! Hah! I got some."
The two of you try two more trees and manage to get a few more.
There was a station for you to either bag them right away or make them caramel or chocolate covered before leaving. You spend far too long deciding on how many should be caramel and chocolate, and what toppings should be on them. You think of each brother and friend that'll want one. By the end, there's only one left and neither of you made one for yourselves.
"You choose," Matt says, kissing your cheek.
With creative intuition, you make it half and half, then smear all sorts of toppings on it and present it. Matt rests his hand on top of yours and takes a bite out of it.
"Mm..." he nods and runs a half through his hair, most of falling back in place. "I like what you did with the caramel and chocolate."
You take your own, attempting to lick the excess off around your mouth. "Delicious."
Your next stop was at a nearby pumpkin patch, which was also a little picked over. But there were still enough to enjoy and walk around a little bit. You pick up a few of the biggest ones you could find to get photos with.
Matt pulls you in for a selfie. His eyes squint as the sun is directly in your eyes and fumbles backwards. This causes him to run into a bundle of baby pumpkins and his butt lands on top of the stems.
"Fucking shit!" He groans as he holds onto his ass and rolls over on the ground.
You hold back a laugh and help him up. He paces back and forth a couple times.
"I'm done with the pumpkins," he sulks.
"Let's get hot cocoa to make it all better," you baby, jutting out your bottom lip.
He tries not to laugh but it didn't work.
----
You enjoy a small walk as you sip on hot cocoa, the sun starts to go down. You hold the to-go cup tightly between your palms in the hopes to warm up your hands. You forgot to bring any sort of warm layer. Once the sun is gone, it feels like fall now.
Matt shoots you a concerned look. "Are you cold, babe?"
"A little, yeah," you laugh under your breath.
"Here, wear my sweater, (y/n)."
"No, it's fine."
It's too late, he already took his jacket off and pulls the vintage sweater over his head. You take the sweater and tug it over your short sleeve tee. The warmth of the material and from him wearing it all afternoon engulfs your entire body. It sends shivers down your spine from the temperature adjustment.
Matt has his jacket back on and wraps his arms around you, rubbing his hands up and down your arms. He kisses the crook of your neck. "Better?"
"Absolutely."
The two of you reminisce on your adventures of the day. Ultimately, though, it leads back to a few of the couples around you in the park. One were unashamedly having a full on make out session underneath a tree. Another were taking cutesy photos in matching outfits.
"You'll never catch us doing that," Matt comments.
You raise your eyebrows at him. "Did you forget the matching pj pants we had for christmas last year?"
"That doesn't count," he scoffs lightly. "It was only pants. I mean, like, top, pants, accessories, the whole fit. It's just cringy."
You giggle. "Whatever you say, Matty B."
"It is! Are you saying you want to do that?" He sips on his hot cocoa. "Cause that might be a deal breaker."
"Not seriously. More in an ironic way. Like those people on tiktok doing the 80s style photoshoots at JcPenny. Now that would be fun and not cringy!"
He shook his head. "No, nope."
"Come on!" you argue. "Think about the memories we could make!"
"Absolutely not, it would be embarrasing."
You roll your eyes. "That's kind of the point, babe."
"Still," he retorts.
"Fine." You sigh lightly. "I'll just ask Chris to do it with me. He won't care."
Matt shrugs, finishing the last of his drink, and tosses it into the nearest trash can. "Okay, you two have fun with that."
"We will." You do the same with your drink.
You sense Matt's a little down now and force him into a hug. "Thanks for today, babe. You're the best."
He falls into your body more and lets out a deep breath. "Any time, (y/n)."

A Secretary’s Secrets
Based on this request.
Pairing: Modern!Azriel x Reader
Summary: Azriel can’t seem to keep his hands to himself in the workplace.
Warnings: Suggestive, implied smut
2.9k word count
My heels clack loudly on the marble tiles as I race down the hall, a few coworkers giving me an unsteady stare through the floor-to-ceiling windows but I don't pay them any mind while I beeline towards the conference room.
My boss had texted me saying he needed to get out of the meeting he was in, telling me I needed to make up some sort of excuse to pull him from it.
I skid to a stop just before the door and compose myself, regaining my breath. I knock on the door lightly, but there's no way to tell if I'm allowed to enter the windowless room with its soundproof walls, so when I crack the door open and peek my head in I can only pray I’m not intruding.
My eyes snag on an irritated Azriel, not annoyed with me but with the rest of the much older men in the room— who happened to be staring at me like a prize to be won. "I'm sorry to interrupt but," I look to my boss with creased brows. "You have another meeting you need to get to, Sir." I give him a polite smile and his glare on everyone else drags to me, something in his expression softens. "Right, well then." Azriel collects the folders he laid out and puts them back into the briefcase in front of him. "We can reschedule." He looks to the men in the room who all seem too disgruntled because they knew he was lying, it took them weeks to get Azriel to agree to this, and now here I was, dragging him away from it. He shuts the clasps of the briefcase with a click before grabbing it and following me out the door, shutting it behind him.
"Was that okay?" I look up at him with creased brows. "Perfect, my love." He hums, walking towards the elevator at the end of the hall as I rush after him. "I take it didn't go well?" I say, clasping my hands behind my back. "For them, no, it did not." He mutters. "For me? I'm just happy I don't have to partner with them anymore." He sighs in relief. I smile up at him as we reach the end of the hall and he gestures to the elevator.
"You want to do it?" He asks and a childish grin spreads over my face as I press the button, calling the lift.
It only takes a moment before the doors open and we're entering.
"That skirt is awfully tight." He comments and I glance back at him with a smirk while clicking the button that will send us to the top floor. "You don't like it?" I do a small twirl and his jaw feathers, I smile as I notice him gripping the handle of his briefcase particularly tight. "I don't like that others get to see you in it." He answers and I roll my eyes. "You know I'm only yours." I snake my arms around the back of his neck. "I want them to know that too." He looks to the doors of the elevator and I grin. "You know my rules." I remind and he sighs, looking down at me with creased brows. "We're alone now, aren't we?" His large hand comes up to my waist, spanning the area easily. "We are." I nod and push off of my heels, lifting up and pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. When I back away he looks up to the floor indicator. He smiles and crashes his lips down onto mine, pushing me back against the wall of the elevator. "We've got ten levels left," He mumbles against my lips and I grin wildly, pulling him closer.
He drops his briefcase so his hand can come under my thigh, lifting me up to be pressed against his chest and the wall behind me. His arm cradles beneath my thighs with his freehand roams anywhere it can find.
His mouth slots over mine, tongue swiping at my bottom lip and all I can do is let him in— parting my mouth just wide enough for him to take control, hand finding my jaw as he angles my face closer, so he can kiss me deeper. His tongue explores every crevice he can find, pushing me harder against the wall like he needed more like our clothes were in the way and he yearned for pure connection. I couldn't deny I wanted anything less either.
His fingers dig into my thigh as I yank him back onto me when he tries to pull away. His hips press hard against the area I needed him most and I let out a soft whimper, hands gripping his neatly pressed suit. "Az," I sigh out when he rolls his hips over mine again, leaving me utterly breathless. "Why don't we just go home? Take the day off?" He mutters into my mouth and gods, did it sound tempting. "We can't just leave," I shake my head and he pulls away. "The meeting room is soundproof." He reminds and I flush pink. "Or if you'd like to bring back old memories we can always just go to my office." He taunts and the color tinging my cheeks only becomes deeper, remembering the way he laid me onto his desk as he pressed into me, I had worn a particularly short dress that day and he couldn't keep his hands off of me.
"We get off a six don't we?" I ask and he gives me a saddened nod. I grab his hand on my cheek and look at the expensive watch on his hand, the one I got him for his birthday last year. "Only thirty more minutes, then we'll go home," I promise and he pouts, I lean in and kiss his frown. "I think you can make it." I rub my thumb along his jaw and he grumbles a curse. "I don't think so." He shakes his head, lips coming to mine again. I smile against the familiar feeling. The elevator dings and I quickly slip from his hold, heels coming back down onto the ground. I adjusted my tight skirt, he watched me as I did so. I looked up at him and he pecked my lips one last time. I grin as he backs away, reaching forward and wiping a film of pink lip gloss from the corner of his mouth.
The elevator doors open and I back up at least a yard. He picks his briefcase up before slipping from the space and out into the hall, I follow a few feet behind him.
He enters his large office, giving me one last look before reluctantly closing the door behind him. I take up my desk beside his door, leaning back in my comfortable chair as I take calls and add meetings to Azriel's calendar for the next half hour.
Azriel and I have been dating for a few years now, but I didn’t want our relationship to interfere with our work life, afraid that I’d get judged by my coworkers for sleeping with the boss, but it was more than that. Azriel didn’t even approach me at work— we had run into each other at a bar and he offered to buy me a drink, it blossomed from there. I doubted they could see my side, only recognize that I fucked my way into this office, that my pay isn’t from my hard work but because of my body. The thought made me want to hurl.
So I didn’t let Azriel show any public displays of affection during work hours— aside from when we were alone, because, gods, the male’s libido was through the roof.
I released a long sigh as I stretched my limbs out, tired from waking up so early, and the fact that Azriel had kept me up all night last night.
I released a long sigh as I stretched my limbs out, tired from waking up so early, and the fact that Azriel had kept me up all night last night.
I shake my head from the lewd memories and look to the door where I saw Henson collecting his things. “Leaving?” I ask my coworker, getting up from my desk. “Yeah,” The male nodded. “I’m sorry for staying so late, I know you can’t leave until all of us are gone.” He sighs apologetically and I shake my head. “Nonsense, I had to catch up on a few more things anyway.” I wave him off and he nods with a polite smile.
His eyes linger on my bare legs and I shift on my heels uncomfortably, I look back toward Azriel’s office, making eye contact with him through the large window. “Do you have any weekend plans?” He asks and I whip my head back to him with an uneasy stare. “Uh,” I was going to the farmers' markets with Azriel, then we were supposed to go to dinner— and then stay in bed for the rest of the time we had off. The door opens behind me and I know Azriel’s leaning against the doorframe, I can practically feel him staring holes into my back, waiting for my answer. “I have plans with my boyfriend.” I shrug and Henson raises a blonde brow, stuffing his hands into his pockets. “I didn’t know you were...” He searches for the right word. “Off limits?” Azriel chimes in from behind me and he couldn’t have been more obvious, I could practically feel his bloodlust from here. “Yeah.” He mutters and I smile softly. “It’s odd that you wouldn’t know, we’ve been dating for nearly five years now.” I cross my arms over my chest and his brows shoot up. “I actually, wish he’d propose soon.” I glance back to Azriel with yearning eyes and a smirk curves his lips. “How could he not?” Henson scoffs before quickly sealing his lips shut. I giggle and give him a polite smile. “That’s how I feel.” I joke and he nods with a relaxed smile, backing away on his heel.
“Right, well I hope you have fun with the lucky guy.” He replies with a nod, walking towards the door. “Have a nice weekend Henson.” I give him a small wave and then he’s gone, behind the doors leading to the stairwell.
A wide grin spreads on my lips, now that the branch is finally empty. Leaving just me and Azriel. I turn on my heel with a bright expression. I practically skip back to him. “Propose huh?” His hands come to my hips as he pulls me into his office and shuts the door behind me. I shrug innocently as he waltzes over to his desk, settling in his large black chair that seemed more like a throne.
“Az,” I call after a moment of silence. His head whips to me with wondering hazel eyes and I smile, relieving the tension between his brows. “Love,” He replies and I stroll towards him. “Everyone’s gone,” I inform. “We can go home.” I round his desk and come behind him, sliding my arms down his shoulders and propping my chin atop his. “I’m sorry my love I completely forgot I have this project that needs to be done by tomorrow.” He sighs, leaning back to look up at me, meaning we couldn’t go home. I frown, hands coming to his sharp cheekbones. “Then I suppose we’ll be having a late night in the office.” I smile down at him and he leans up, pecking my lips from upside down. “Come, sit in my lap until I finish.” He whispers against my lips. A smile tugs at my lips and I kick off my heels before straddling over his hips, arms coming around the back of his neck and my head coming to his shoulder, where I begin to trail chaste, reassuring kisses up his neck, my hands roaming his big arms, muscles ripping beneath his shirt.
He grunted out a low sound, I backed away, looking at him quizzically. “You’re very distracting.” He murmurs, hand coming to my thigh. “The sooner I finish the sooner we can go home, isn’t that what you want?” He asks and I nod. “Then no more touching, yeah?” He squeezes my thigh slightly. “Yes Sir.” I nod with a smirk, pulling his chest to press against mine as I rest on him. He grumbled a curse at the nickname, adjusting his hips beneath me.
I knew better than to go against his word, knew whatever work he was doing was important but— was it more important than me? I wrap my arms around him a little tighter, pushing those selfish thoughts away. I release a frustrated sigh, nuzzling my nose into the space between his neck and the collar of his black shirt, getting overwhelmed with the scent of cedar and night-chilled mist, as well as a small undertone of vanilla from when I washed his hair with my shampoo in the shower last night. My fingers weave into his dark waves, not thinking anything of it as I begin to scratch his scalp soothingly, running my hands through his black locks with a soft hum.
He sighs and sets his pen down, hands coming to my waist and lifting me onto the desk. My brows crease as I look at him with a soft expression. “What’d I just say, love?” He reprimands me in a light tone and I look away shamefully. His fingers come to the underside of my chin, tilting my head back towards him. “Answer me,” He raises his brows slightly. “You said not to distract you,” I mutter and he nods, hand moving from my chin to cup my jaw. “Do you think you can behave or do we need to go home?” He asks and I swallow thickly. I knew this was important, but gods did I need him, my body craved him— I was being selfish. “I’ll be good, promise.” I nod, nails digging into the desk slightly with the way his eyes drink me in. “Okay,” His gaze lingers on me for a beat longer before he pulls me back into his lap.
This time I stay purely still, hyper-aware of my movements as well as his, making sure to keep my hands rested on his shoulders and trying to ignore his large hands cradling my lower back, and my hips. His hand had somehow traveled beneath my blouse and began tracing shapes on my bare back, spelling out his name.
He released a soft sigh and leaned back in his chair, my head lifting from his shoulder as I looked at his weary expression. “All finished?” I ask excitedly and he nods with a content smile. “You work so hard.” I hum, hands coming to his cheeks, thumbs rubbing along his jaw. “I think when we get home I have a small reward planned for you.” I taunt and his arms wrap around me tighter. “Why wait until we get home?” He arches a brow and clears the papers on my desk before placing me down on it. “So needy,” I grin, leaning back against the dark wood as he stands, hovering over me, and the gaze in his eyes tells me it’d be a long night in the office indeed.
He wastes no time in pushing my overtly short skirt up, calloused hands gripping my thighs as he pulls me to the edge of his desk. His hands roamed higher, breath fanning over my neck as he sucked and bit at the most sensitive areas he could find, leaving marks I’d have to cover tomorrow. Just as his fingers were about to find my panty line the phone rang, I jumped at the sound and he groaned into my neck.
“Who the fuck is calling me,” He grumbled, my hand slipping into his hair as I tugged him away from the column of my throat. “Answer it Az,” I murmur and he looks at the phone with a cold stare before picking up the device and holding it to his ear
“What?” He gritted in a tone that made me fear for whoever was on the other end of the line. I hear a voice in reply but can’t make out any words. Azriel’s hands leave my body and he sighs, entirely annoyed. “Can’t you ask Cassian?” Azriel grumbles and I sit up on my elbows, watching him as he rolls his eyes at whatever the person on the phone is telling him. “Fine. I’ll be there in ten.” The dark-haired male grumbled before hanging up the phone. My shoulders slumped as I stared up at him.
“It was Rhys, he needs someone to watch Nyx— I’m apparently the emergency babysitter,” Azriel muttered, walking over to the coat rack and shrugging his jacket on, leaving me entirely needy on the desk. “I can drop you off at home first.” He informs while I walk over to him and rise onto my toes, pressing a kiss to his jaw.
“I’ll come with.” I grin at him. His gaze softens. “You don’t have to,” He shakes his head. “I want to,” I reassure. His eyes flick to the floor behind me. “Grab your shoes then.” He smiles and I rush to do as he says, slipping them on and walking over to him with a content expression. “I’ll make sure to treat you nicely all weekend then, okay?” He kisses the top of my ear and I nod. I knew that by treating me nicely, he meant we wouldn’t be leaving our bed.

Sorry to hear you're feeling shitty after your surgery. Don't worry, your nips are NOT going to fall off. Since you asked for fic requests, I've always wondered what Ed and Stede's very first night in their inn by the sea was like.
I love this one, thank you!! I'm feeling pretty good tonight (and significantly less worried about any nipple-related complications after checking in with my surgeon earlier and getting a thumbs-up on the healing so far).
--
Ed was trying not to think too hard about what Stede's last straw would be.
He was a really good sport about the awful smell, and even continued being a good sport when they discovered that the smell befouling the whole house turned out to be due to what was formerly some kind of animal rotting under the floorboards. Ed had a brief moment of worry when Stede got a bit pissed about Ed not wanting a hug after he came back from disposing of that whole mess, but they talked it through (as a crew of two) and Ed was happy to give Stede a hero's welcome after he washed up.
But they'd just kept running into snags. The sky roof (that's what Stede was calling the massive hole in the roof) was too big to cover with the spare canvas they'd brought for it, and Stede stuck his foot directly through some boards on the porch and needed to be rescued, and Ed attempted a sexy lean against a wall in a bid to get Stede to grab him by the hips and wound up going right through...
By nightfall, their list of things to patch before the house was safe for sleeping in had grown as tall as Ed, and they decided to just sleep outside.
Ed hated sleeping outside. It was hot, and he felt sweaty and gross, and there were bugs everywhere, and - oh shit, he was getting dirt on his shirt sleeve. And the worst part...
Stede was going to change his mind any second now.
Letting his breath out in a hitching jag, Ed glanced over at Stede, laying next to him on the blanket they'd spread out in the grass, who was looking up at the stars coming out in the sky, his hands crossed over his tummy. Noticing Ed was looking at him, Stede turned his head, his face breaking into a beaming smile -
"So," Ed managed, his voice watery, trying very hard not to blink because he was sure his tears would spill over. "Sorry it's not what you hoped for."
"Are you kidding?" Stede snorted, his hand moving almost instinctually between them to twine his fingers with Ed's. "I've got you with me. Everything else is just a bonus."
"I hate sleeping outside," Ed mumbled petulantly.
"Yes, you would, wouldn't you?" Stede wrinkled his nose - not making fun of Ed, just sympathetic. "Wanna do something about it?"
Before Ed knew it, they were propping up some of the extra canvas they'd brought on sticks around them in a makeshift tent, and maybe it was much less technically suitable if they cut a nice big hole in it above their heads so they could still see the stars, but they both really wanted to be able to see the stars. Stede used a broom to whack the worst of the leaf litter and general nature-y gunk away from their location, warning it very sternly to "leave poor Ed alone," and with their skills combined they were able to get some water going over a campfire to at least have something similar to their usual sleepytime tea.
And curled up together, Ed's head resting safely on Stede's chest, snuggled up safe from the rest of the world in their little makeshift tent...everything felt alright.
"Sorry the place sucks," Ed said.
"It's a fixer-upper," Stede said easily. "Good bones. Might take some patience! But as long as I've got you -"
Ed couldn't really help but smile, when Stede looked at him like that, like he hung every one of the stars up in the sky. "And as long as you're with me -"
"Yeah," Stede said, giving Ed a big cheesy wink just to make him laugh. "I think we'll be alright."
They'd have a busy day in the morning, when they'd have to start the task of actually trying to tackle the long, long list of issues with their new home. Probably, they'd spend most of the day trying to figure out which things were urgent to attend to and which were very urgent. There would be annoyances, and setbacks, and they'd probably have lots of silly little bickering arguments that ended with I'm sorry, I love you, I'm just stressed, and I know, I know you, I love you too. Tomorrow, the whole business of retirement would probably start to look a bit difficult.
For now, though? It was the easiest thing Ed had ever done.

Imagine getting the X-Men into anime.
Your three friends had been trying to find you for hours. They had no clue where you had hidden yourself away in though I guess in hind sight checking your room would have been productive. Behind the door they could hear you singing along to some song that definitely wasn't English. When they cracked it open all three peaking in like some Scooby doo level of stacking on top of each other they spotted you bouncing along as you sang the opening song. Pajamas and messy hair evident with snacks galore no wonder they couldn't find you.
Kurt immediately took the opportunity to teleport standing above you snagging the chip bag from your hand as you tried rescuing your beloved snack from the blue fiend. " Hey not fair. Unhand my salty treat you fuzzy snack taxer." The man laughs at you shaking his head as he starts shoveling chips into his mouth. "Nein. It is your tax for disappearing after training." You blow a raspberry at him as you pull him down onto the oversized bean bag with you. " I got my new anime box set I'm doing some mental relaxation. "
Remy eyes the screen plopping down on his designated bean bag before Anna Marie joins suit. " Well this don't make no sense there not speaking English. How are you supposed to watch if you're reading at the bottom of the screen. " You let out a chuckle towards the Cajun as Kurt situates himself in your lap and the bean bag like a cat finding it's seat. " Aw I'm sorry Remy. I forgot you can't read but you did interrupt my bum time." The man huffs in response chucking one of your empty soda cans at you. Anna Marie can't help laughing as you two fight him throwing cans and you use your mutation to absorb the scrap metal. Kurt to tuned into the animated figures on screen to mind the constant movement going on.
After the three kept asking too many questions of what was going on after getting too invested you decided it wouldn't hurt to just restart the series and continue your binge fest with your friends. " If we're gonna binge anime y'all need to do this right. I'll put the first tape in and get the episode ready but you three need to go get pajamas on as well and fetch us some more snacks. " You pause throwing your wallet to Anna Marie. " I ordered chinese food for us all, make sure Remy doesn't steal my cash Anna when you guys see the delivery guy. " As you say this you can spot Jubilee heading back to her room across the hall. " Hey Jubes. You wanna come watch Ranma 1/2 with us. I just got the box set in today."
The girl looks excited but pauses for a moment. " Man I haven't finished the sailor moon set you let me borrow last week yet." You share a chuckle with the young girl ruffling her head. " Don't worry about it sparkler. It's not like no one's watched two series at once before. This is the last call though when they get back with the snacks I'm not restarting the series again. " The girl gets the message running into her room to change into some comfy clothes as you get another bean bag set. Staying in the mansion even quiet time alone can turn into a mini party.
You're not sure when Logan had joined the party but he had strolled in behind Remy when he had gone to pick up the Chinese. Thank god you got used to ordering bulk food because you never knew when someone would want some of what you were eating. Plopped on your bed Logan digged into the food making passing comments about the anime eventually getting sucked into it as well long after the food was gone. It was nice to be surrounded by friends while sharing something you enjoyed. After that night having anime nights became a thing in the mansion some how a revolving door of characters would show up.
It became such a thing you and Kurt would often mimic the fights on screen.

Fluffy Ava and Jack
Their Bookstore
l Nightingale Au l Jack x Ava l masterlist l
"Remind me of the rules again?" Ava asked.
It was Jack's turn to plan date night. He chose a relatively low key restaurant. The place they usually go to when they didn't want the possibility of any of Jack's crazy fans to find them.
And then Jack drove them to their favorite go to bookstore. It was a small space with two stories, pack to the brim with book. Everything from new books to older first editions.
After most of their dates they will end up at the store, picking out a book or two to add to their collections. This time Jack a little bit of a different idea in mind.
"We get thirty minutes to complete the checklist and then meet in by the two lumpy chairs in the corner." Jack reminded her as he pulled into a parking space across from the store with the good candy.
"And what those tasks?"
"A cookbook with a recipe for next date night, a book about the place we should travel one back, a book our parents read to us as kids, and a book we really want to read" Jack smiled grabbing Ava's, guiding her safely across the way to the store.
"Do we have thirty minutes? I thought they closed in ten?" Ava frowned, checking her watch. They usually had to speed on through, taking their books home to read while they were tangled together on the couch.
"About that, I um, paid Georgie to stay open a little an hour longer for just us." He admitted. Ava smiled, reaching over to peck Jack on the cheek, giving her approval for the second half of their date.
They got in the store and hung their coats up on the rack by the door. Jack gave Georgie the store owner a little nod and set the timer. He held up three finger, counting down one two three and they were off.
Ava quickly ran upstairs to the children's section grabbing Norma Jean, Jumping Bean while Jack started in the cooking section selecting From Crook to Cook because how could a cookbook by Snoop Dogg be any good?
Once the timer sounded the couple found themselves in the back corner sitting in their favorite cozy chairs, exchanging their selections.
"Oh my god, why did you choose this book?" Ava laughed holding up The Perfect Couple.
"We watched the show, and I wanted to to compare the book to the show." Jack shrugged he was thumbing through the book on Italy Ava choose. "And because I knew you'd want to read it, so I figured we could read it together since I read all your books anyways."
"Awe you're too cute Babe!" She leafed through it quickly before she snagged the Italy book Jack was looking at, replacing it with one she had. "Start reading it to me?"
Jack couldn't resist his girlfriend's request. The hockey player got comfy, cleared his throat and started at the beginning. Ava's smiled got even bigger. She moved her chair as close to Jack's as possible. She leaned over and place her head on his shoulder.
An hour later, Jack was still reading the book, only to himself now. He had dogeared the spot he left off reading aloud since Ava nos was dropped over his lap, softly snoring. She had fallen asleep like twenty minutes ago.
"I'm sorry Jack, I've got to close the store now. It's late." Georgie finished with his organizing and stocking. It was around eleven pm, he just wanted to lock up and go home.
He didn't want to wake her, although he hadn't been there, he knew she hadn't been sleeping well, and now that she was, he wanted to let her for as long as she could
"Do you trust me?" Jack came up with an idea on the fly. "Leave the keys, when Av wakes up we'll leave. I promise no funny business."
"Fine. No funny business, I have cameras you know." The old man tossed the keys to Jack and winked at his favorite customers

part 32 of 35 | masterpost
word count: 3841 | ao3 link | fic's playlist
I halted in front of the door, my heart pounding, my face all flushed, the desperation in my heart shoving aside any jitters about facing Dave again. All I craved was for him to swing that door open, and I'd throw myself into his arms, cup his face in my hands and kiss him, let him take me to bed, and everything would sort itself out because I loved him. I fucking loved him.
✦ on this chapter: NSFW!!!, dave mustaine x female!oc, james hetfield x female! oc, oc is cliff's cousin, +18, language, slice of life, angst, smut mentioned/implied
✧ Do you forgive me for all the ways that I missed you? / Did I ever not miss you? In my bones, in being myself / I could be no one else ✧
I woke up a few hours later with the sunlight peeking through the curtains, James' arms hugging me as he snored softly, his face tucked in the curve of my neck. I blinked, memories of the previous night rushing back, making my face warm and my stomach flutter with a million butterflies. Holy shit. That had really happened, right? We’d actually fucked?
I got up, nudging James' arms away, my face probably redder than a lobster. I headed to the bathroom, cranked up the shower, and hopped under the hot water, letting out a satisfied sigh as my body unwound. After the shower, as I brushed my teeth, it dawned on me that I’d forgotten to grab something to wear. Wrapped in a towel, I strolled back to the room only to find James was already awake.
“You look way hotter naked than I imagined, you know?” James grinned as he caught sight of me.
“Is that your version of 'good morning'?” I chuckled, hunting through my stuff for something to wear. He laughed, got up, and sat on the edge of the bed, pulling me to stand between his legs.
“Good morning, princess,” he murmured, planting a light kiss on my lips. “Hey, mind if I use your shower?”
“Sure thing, but you might want to snag some fresh clothes from your own room,” I suggested, and he flashed a grin.
“Why don't you crash in my room for the rest of the tour? It's way more convenient, and besides…” James pulled me closer, wrapping his arms around my waist before whispering in my ear, “We could have a rerun of last night as many times as we want, right?”
I hesitated, taking a step back. James frowned, seeming intrigued by my reaction.
“What's wrong?” he asked. “Am I that bad in bed?”
“Of course not!” I replied, maybe a bit too hastily, which earned a soft chuckle from him.
“What's bothering you, then?” he asked, gently holding my chin. I let out a sigh and glanced off.
“You might get upset.”
“Nah, I won't. You know you can tell me anything,” he drew me close again, and I placed my hands on his shoulders, my face warming up with how close we were. “What's going on?”
“It's just…” I sighed, a lump of pain forming in my throat. “James, Dave dumped me, thinking I cheated on him with you. It's messed up. And I... I really liked sleeping with you. A lot, seriously. But I can't help feeling bad…” I blinked, battling against the tears that were pushing through. “I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything; I'm screwing everything up…”
“No. You're not,” James whispered, gently rubbing my back with one hand. “You gotta quit thinking that. You're not screwing anything up.”
“It's all my fault, James,” I mumbled, my voice shaky as a couple of tears slipped out, making their way down my face. “I messed things up, and I couldn't even go after him to set things right 'cause I was scared. It's all my fucking fault.”
“Hey. Get over here,” he pulled me in closer, giving me a tight hug, and I sniffled, wiping my eyes with one hand while he gently rubbed my back. “You didn't mess up, Nore. You haven't wrecked anything, okay? I broke up with Pat 'cause I wanted to. And Dave... If you want, I can help you with that.”
“How so?” I asked, my voice shaky. He pulled back, looking at me, his blue eyes dead serious.
“If you're up for it, we can track him down when we're back. I'll help you explain the whole story. And if you wanna patch things up with him…” he paused, taking a deep breath like the thought pained him. “Nore, I'd rather fucking die than see you sad like this, even if it’s because you can't be with him.”
“James…” I whispered, my heart pounding at his words. Would he seriously go that far for me? Was he really willing to help me set things straight with Dave, even if it meant he might lose me in the process? Did he truly love me that much?
“It's just that, right now, there's a whole ocean between him and us,” James murmured, his lips edging closer to mine. “You can be my girl while we're here... And when we roll back, we'll figure out what's what.”
I let out a sigh as he kissed me, his hands eagerly roaming over my body until he unraveled the towel wrapped around me. One of his hands gripped my butt tight, while the other ventured to my breast, moving in slow circles, his thumb slowly teasing my nipple. I let out a soft moan as his lips traced my neck, a pleasant warmth spreading between my legs.
“I just got out of the shower,” I whispered, and he let out a soft chuckle.
“So what? We can hop in together later. I was thinking about fucking you in there too, anyway.”
“Quit it, James,” I moaned, my protest weakened by the evident longing in my voice.
He laughed and then yanked me onto the bed, positioning my knees around his hips. I tangled my fingers in his hair, his lips leisurely exploring mine, and moaned when he pulled my hips down, slowly sliding into me as I settled on his lap.
The morning was wrapping up when we finally strolled into the hotel's restaurant, spotting the rest of the band and Leanne, chitchatting as they polished off breakfast.
“Go snag a seat; I'll grab the food,” James suggested, tugging me in by the waist before whispering in my ear: “You've gotta be tired after riding me so good just now, huh?”
“Oh my God... James!” I griped, shoving him off as I felt my face getting all warm. He burst into laughter, heading for the buffet, and I rolled my eyes before joining the gang at the table. “Hey,” I greeted everyone as I took a seat, arching my eyebrows and furrowing my forehead when I got zero response. I blushed when I noticed all eyes on me — Kirk and Leanne with expectation in their eyes, Cliff throwing some side-eye, torn between suspicion and curiosity, and Lars barely containing his laughter. “Alright, spill it. What's the deal?”
“You telling us what happened?” Kirk chimed in, a big grin spreading across his face. I furrowed my brow.
“Nothing happened. What are you guys talking about?”
“Just that Pat went nuclear 'cause you and James disappeared together yesterday. Now she's MIA, and you two stroll in all cozy for breakfast like this?” Lars said, grinning like a goof too. ”So... what's the story?”
“Pat and James called it quits. She hightailed it back home,” I admitted, figuring there was no point in keeping it under wraps — everyone would catch on sooner or later.
“And you’re seriously gonna let us suffer in suspense? Spill the details!” Lea demanded, and I let out a groan.
James rolled back with two plates, plopping one in front of me before settling down and digging in. He took a few seconds, maybe longer, to catch onto everyone's eager stares at us.
“What?” he asked, his mouth full.
“What we're dying to know is if you two fucked or n…”.
“Lars!” I cut in, my face heating up. James nearly choked on his food, going red in the face too. I averted my gaze, refusing to make eye contact, running a hand over my face.
“Oh my God. You guys totally did it, didn’t you?” Lars continued, now definitely cracking up. We stayed silent, but that seemed to be all the confirmation he needed. He leaped to his feet. “I called it!” he pointed triumphantly at Kirk and Leanne. “Pay up, you owe me ten bucks.”
“You guys placed bets on this?” I exclaimed, offended, getting up. “Cliff!” I turned to Cliff, hoping for some support in conveying how ridiculous this was, but he just shrugged.
“I have nothing to do with this.”
“What were you betting on?” James inquired, still a bit flushed but not nearly as bothered as I was. I stared at him, incredulous.
“I bet that you and Pat would split, and you'd turn to Nore for comfort, inevitably leading to... you know. Kirk bet on a threesome with you, Pat, and Nore…” I shot Kirk a wide-eyed look, and he grinned at me like it was just a casual proposition. “Lea bet that you would only sort things out come morning.”
“And you all think it's cool to start placing bets on my love life?” I demanded, annoyed.
“We're just stoked that you and James finally got your act together, Nore. It was about time.” Leanne chimed in with a grin.
“I fucking called it! I knew this day would come ever since I spotted you two making out on the bus.” Lars declared, victorious. I turned to him, eyes wide, and James tensed beside me.
“What do you mean you saw it?” I asked, while James exclaimed:
“Seriously, Lars? I thought you were knocked out!”
“Wait a sec. What do you mean they were making out on the bus?” Kirk inquired.
“You didn't tell us any of this! It's not cool to bet when you're holding back intel,” Leanne griped.
“I genuinely thought you were knocked out,” James reiterated, sounding incredulous. Lars chuckled.
“Well, in case you're not familiar with the idea, it's called pretending…”
“Shut it, you goofballs,” Cliff grumbled. “Everyone's eyeballing us.”
I huffed but settled back in the chair to eat, allowing James to wrap an arm around my shoulders.
“So, are you two together now or what?” Lars prodded, and I rolled my eyes.
“Fuck off, Lars.”
“Are you or not?”
“It's none of your fucking business,” James muttered. “Just zip it.”
I glanced at James and couldn't help but smile when our eyes connected. We carried on with our meal, and to my relief, the others shifted gears, chatting more about the shows and the trip rather than dissecting James and me. I sighed, a sudden realization hitting me that the hollowness that had lingered for the past few weeks had lightened in my chest. For the first time in weeks, I felt almost complete, even with Dave not being there. For a fleeting moment, I almost allowed myself not to feel sad.
But then, James inadvertently brushed against the small blue stone on the bracelet that used to be Dave’s birthday gift, and in an instant, everything about Dave flooded back into my mind; his scent, his smile, the way he used to hold me. The way his lips always found the perfect spot against mine, and how he held me as if I would break with too much force. His voice, his hands, his strong arms around me, everything, everything about him.
I needed to find him again. I needed to explain everything; I needed him to understand that I loved him and had never stopped loving him, not even for a second. The idea of finding him frightened me, but the thought of never crossing paths with him again scared me even more. I needed to make things right.
Then, James' request echoed in my mind, and I let out a sigh. For now, I would let myself revel in the burst of happiness I'd stumbled upon in his embrace. I could make decisions later. I could figure out what I was really feeling. But for now, I could let myself forget that ache.
I could let myself be happy.
The rest of the tour flew by; now that James and I had sorted out our issues, the days felt lighter, and I started to feel a bit happy again. Of course, the fact that James couldn't keep his hands off me played a big part in that; we were always together, grabbing every chance we got to sneak away and get lost in each other's touch.
Before we knew it, it was time to head back home. Saying goodbye to James hit me way harder than I thought it would; I’d let myself love him fully in these past few days, no holds barred, but that didn't lessen how much I craved him one bit. If anything, with each passing day, I just wanted him more.
Nevertheless, I got back from the trip dead sure about one thing: I needed to patch things up with Dave. I had to lay it all out for him, spill every detail, even if it meant he might not want to hear it or worse, end up hating me. If my screw-up was keeping stuff under wraps to avoid hurting him, I was damn sure I wouldn't make that mistake again. Not if it meant risking losing someone I loved.
“You sure you don't want me to go with you?” James asked, cupping my face with one hand while the other hung onto my waist. We were saying goodbye at Los Angeles airport before he jetted back to San Francisco and I headed to Long Beach, but not for long; I had plans to swing back to LA the next weekend to have a chat with Dave and, well, Pat too. Figured some apologies were in order.
“I am. I swear I'll be fine,” I breathed, tiptoeing to plant a kiss on the corner of his mouth. He grinned, pulling me into a tight hug, and I let out a soft chuckle.
“You're so damn brave,” he whispered, making my heart rush. “I'll miss you, you know?”
“We'll catch up soon,” I replied, stepping back and resting my hands on his chest. He smiled, a touch of melancholy in his eyes.
“Yeah, but it won't be the same, will it?” he murmured, and I sighed, furrowing my brow a bit.
I had been dodging the thought, but James had a point: one way or another, I planned to sort things out with Dave this weekend. I was damn sure that meeting him again wouldn't be calm or easy, not when the ache for him was like a stormy sea in my chest.
Yet, I couldn't shake off how tight James and I had gotten in these last few days, how I’d let myself fall even more for him. I was torn, clueless about what to do. All I could wish for was that sorting things out with Dave about all that had happened in the past few months would clear up this emotional mess, help me make sense of it all.
"I gotta do this, Jamie," I murmured, cupping his face in my hands. He smiled, resigned, laying his hands on top of mine.
"I get it. How 'bout one last kiss? You know, for good luck." he suggested, and I couldn't help but chuckle, throwing my arms around his neck as I let him plant a sweet kiss on my lips.
The weekend rolled in quicker than I expected, shooting my anxiety through the roof. No matter how many times I'd rehearsed the speech and played out the scenarios in my head about facing Dave, when the moment finally arrived, I was way more jittery than I bargained for.
I hit up Pat's place first, thinking it might be a smoother conversation. Nervously, I rang the doorbell, sighing in anticipation. After a few minutes, the door swung open, revealing Pat.
I started to say hi, but she shut the door right in my face as soon as she laid eyes on me.
"Pat, come on!" I blurted, banging on the door. I hammered the doorbell — once, twice, three times — until she begrudgingly swung it open.
"What do you want?" she snarled. I raised my eyebrows, taken aback by her hostility.
"I want to talk to you."
"I have nothing to talk to you about. Go away."
"Yeah, I don’t think so. We need to talk," I lit a cigarette and offered her the pack. "Want one?" She stayed silent, and I sighed, shoving the cigarette box back into my jacket pocket. "Pat, look... I know things got kinda..."
“Spare me your apologies," She cut me off. "I don't want to hear it. It's too easy for you to roll up here and apologize after swiping my boyfriend from me. I don't get why you even bothered introducing him to me. You think I didn't know you two were cozying up while you were still with Dave?”
I opened my mouth, floored.
“Pat, I didn't... That's not true.”
“No? Then why were you so bent out of shape that day at Mike's house when you caught James kissing me?" She inched closer, and I instinctively took a step back, my stomach doing somersaults and my face turning beet red when I realized she'd noticed how upset I got. Sure, I was a bit inebriated and stoned that day, but I genuinely believed Pat hadn't seen how messed up I felt seeing her with James. "If you and James weren't a thing, why did Dave kick you to the curb after I told him about you two?”
My whole world felt like it hit pause when she dropped that bomb. How could she have told Dave about James and me? Flashbacks of that day zipped through my brain like lightning; I didn't clue Dave in on my trip to snag my jacket from Mike's place, not because I was hiding stuff from him, but because I knew he wasn’t comfortable with anything related to Metallica, and I figured it'd be a quick in-and-out mission – grab the jacket and jet.
Yet somehow, for some wild reason, he’d tailed me. For months, I'd been scratching my head, wondering how Dave had known I'd be at Mike's place, how he was dead sure James and would be together behind his back, but that explanation couldn't be real. It just didn't make sense.
“You did... what?” I murmured, my voice shaky as my stomach did somersaults. The cigarette I had in my hand slipped through my fingers, thudding on the floor as my hands started to shake like crazy. “Pat, what the fuck did you do?”
“I told him everything, ” she smirked, clearly pleased with how her words threw me off, messing with my breathing in a cocktail of anger and despair. “James kept swearing you two weren't a thing, but I wasn't buying it. Did you really think I didn't notice the way he looked at you? Like, did you honestly believe I'd let you wreck everything? I figured if Dave knew, you'd have a fight, and he'd talk you out of hanging with James. I just didn't expect him to actually catch you two in the act and call it quits with you,” she came closer, giving me a little shove, and I balled my hands into fists. “But just when I figured you'd quit bugging me and James, they invited you on that damn tour. And guess what? I was right. You were together after all, weren’t you? You should've seen Dave's face when I got back from Europe and told him all about what went down back there.”
“You're a fucking bitch, ” I snapped, shaking with fury and barely holding back from taking a swing at her on the spot. “You really think this is cool? Spreading a load of bullshit about us? You don’t know shit about me and James. I’m lucky I showed up here and found out about all this, 'cause now he's for sure never gonna want to see you again.”
She took a step back, a glint of hurt flickering in her eyes for a split second before it got replaced by coldness, a mocking grin playing on her lips.
"What's that saying again? An eye for an eye?" she said, tilting her head back slightly and giving me a narrowed-eye look. "Dave won't want anything to do with you either, Nore. Not after his ex-best friend and his girlfriend double-crossed him like this. Do you think I give a damn if it's true or not? You snagged the guy I like, so I snagged the guy you love."
I took another step back. How could she just say that so casually, like it was no big deal? Like wrecking my relationship with Dave didn't matter, like hurting him and breaking both our hearts meant nothing? I felt my heart squeeze, my breath hitching as I grasped the full impact of it all; how Dave must've believed I’d genuinely stabbed him in the back, how bumping into James at Mike's place, alone with me, would have only fueled his suspicions.
And what was Pat blabbing about again? You should've seen Dave's face when I got back from Europe and told him all about what went down back there. What twisted version of the truth had Pat fed him before I had a chance to spill my own guts, to lay out my feelings, to let him know how much I've been hurting without him, how much I've been missing him? Did he really think I'd been cozying up with James since our split, not giving a damn about how he felt? Did he genuinely believe I'd ditch him like that?
I couldn't stick around there for one more second. I had to track down Dave immediately. I needed to tell him the truth, no twists, no fibs, no chitchat. I needed him to understand that I loved him. That yeah, I had feelings for James too, but I loved him ; that I had loved him first, that we could patch things up if we gave it a shot. That I needed him. That I didn't want to live without him.
I spun around without a backward glance, hustling to my motorcycle and firing it up. I zoomed through the streets of Los Angeles, maybe pushing the speed limit a bit until I hit the low-rise building where Dave and I used to live. I barged into the building like a tornado, sprinting up the stairs until I hit our old apartment’s floor.
But that dream didn't pan out; when I knocked on the door, I noticed it was already unlocked, exposing a totally vacant apartment. I barged in, frantic, scouring every room as if he might still be there, but he wasn't. He just wasn't there, and the realization hit me like a tidal wave, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably. He wasn't there, and I had no clue how to find him.
I had lost him.
✧ if you'd like to be tagged on the next parts, let me know and I'll add you to the tag list! ❤ ✧
✦ a/n: decided to put this note at the end so you guys wouldn't get spoilers for this part. I'm sorry for the heartbreaking twist (again) lol I promised Dave would be back and he will, but it'll take just a bit longer! Also, the epilogue is getting a little bigger than I expected, because I don't want to leave any plot points unanswered or rushed, so I will split it into a few parts (it won't be too many! it's all for the sake of the story and so we can get more Dave and James moments with Nore I promise lol)

Raggedy Ann and Andy's First Slumber Party
A Raggedy Ann and Andy age regression fanfic by me!
Let me know if I should add trigger warnings! I'm not used to posting my writing
❤️
🩷
🩵
💙
Marcella is invited to a slumber party at her classmate's house to celebrate a set of twins' birthdays. She brings Ann and Andy to play/sleep with cuz it's her first sleepover. Ann is super excited but Andy hasn't been out of the house besides they're adventures in the deep dark woods so he's a bit nervous. He'd never admit it to anyone but Ann tho.
~
The first few hours of the sleepover went by quickly, Marcella set them both up at her sleeping bag by her pillow and went off to play with the other kids outside. This gave the two twin dollies a chance to meet the other kid's stuffed friends. They met a huge stuffed moose named Sammy, a plush cockatiel named Charlie who spoke in squeeks, a small cat full of plastic pellets named Fiona, and a stuffed dog named Frenchie. Ann was having such a great time meeting these new friends, Andy was doing his best to be friendly but he was having a hard time acclimating to the new environment. Something about this whole outing made his stuffing turn, he decided he would stick close to Ann. Purely so he could protect her if something happened, or at least, that's what he told himself.
After supper and cake all the kids rushed into the bedroom to grab their respective toys and bring them all to the birthday twin's shared playroom. It was a large bright room seemingly split through the middle between the two twins. One side felt similar to the nursery back home and the other was decorated with superheroes, zombies, even wrestlers. 'Great more toys to meet!' the ragdoll twins both thought with very different sentiments.
It was all going fine as the children played. Marcella was playing with the twin dollies, having a pretty fun time until one of the boys took Andy from Marcella's hand. It took all his effort not to come to life and rush back to his kid and sister. He was brought to the boyish side of the play room. There was almost a conflict between the children but then a woman came in to say it was time for a movie. The boy holding him tossed him back to Marcella and dashed out the door in a rush to find the best spot for movie watching, much of the other children followed suit. Marcella gave Andy a big hug before setting him down next to Ann and leaving the room. Once every toy was sure that no one would be coming back to the playroom the toys came to life once more.
"Oh Andy! Are you okay?" Ann exclaimed as she hugged her brother and checked a few of his more fragile stitches. Andy was struggling internally, it felt like this slumber party was only going to get worse and all he really wanted was for Ann to cuddle him and tell him it'll be okay. That they would be home soon. But he couldn't admit that out loud, not with all these new toys around that could judge him for being 'too soft'. Before he could get a word out to his sister a teddy bear approached the twin dollies. Andy stood behind his sister and held onto the loose sleeve of her dress.
"Looks like you got snagged by Michal, are you alright? No stitches popped" the bear asked kindly, "My name is Freddy, welcome to the play room! I'm sorry some of our kids play a bit rough" The bear, Freddy, seemed friendly. Andy nodded.
"That's one way to put it, who just grabs a toy out of another kid's hands at this age?" Andy asked halfheartedly. "Anyways I'm fine, thanks." Andy looks away, he didn't want to make nice with Freddy- or any of these other toys- he wanted to go home. Ann could sense the tension building in her brother and tried her best to keep the peace.
"oh- Andrew" she jabs playfully "Don't mind him, he's just grumpy. My name is Ann, it's nice to meet you Freddy! Your playroom is so nice! Much bigger than Marcella's nursery back home!" She and Freddy shook hands and began talking about... something. Andy wasn't paying attention. He decided he didn't want to be a part of this conversation anymore and walked off. He found a spot next to some building blocks that looked nice and sat down to settle himself.
He didn't like any of this, that much was obvious. He could feel a fuzziness creeping up in the corners of him mind, his regression. He really didn't want to do that here, not around toys he didn't know. Just the thought of it upset him. But he also thought about what Ann said, was he really being that grumpy? Was that his only two options? Grumpy or regressing? No, he needed to make some friends. He could have a good time here, just look at how great Ann is at making new friends! He decided, the next toy he sees he will try to befriend.
Not two seconds later an action figure came out of nowhere, crashing through the small tower made of blocks he was sitting by. He was a bit shorter than Andy was and he had a wrestling outfit on. 'oh sweet! a boys toy I could be friends with!' Andy puffed up his chest as he waited for the wrestler to get up and out of the tower's remains.
"that was wicked!!!" The action figure pops up yelling, facing a whole group of other figures. The wrestler ran back to the group and Andy followed.
"Hey guys, I'm Andy!" He put on a smile and held out his hand for a handshake like he's seen his sister do thousands of times before. The figures seemed to not notice him so he cleared his throat of any loose stuffing and tried again. "Hey guys, that was super cool! What games do you like to play?" A few of the plastic toys gave Andy the side eye and the toy in the middle of the crowd, a slightly taller toy with a removable biker helmet and molded on leather jacket and ripped jeans, approached Andy like he was bothered by having to look at the ragdoll.
"What do you want, Plush-Boy? We're busy." The dude said. "The tea party is that way, Doll" he pointed to where Ann and a group of other toys were playing a bored game. Andy was confused but tried his best to put on a genuine smile and he held out his hand again for a handshake.
"My name's Andy, what are you busy with? Maybe I could lend a hand?" The biker looked at Andy's hand and shook it. His mates behind him seemed surprised at this.
"No. You can't. You're far too soft for our stunts. You'll pop a stitch. Now get out of here and go back to the girls toy side." He said as if he were talking about something as mundane as the weather. The other figure behind him snickered and chuckled as they watched Andrew stammering.
"Hey- wait a minute! I'm no girls toy! I can do anything you guys can and probably better too." Andy defended himself, he didn't like being considered weak. Especially not by these... these hoodlums!
"Sure mate, you'll notice though.. none of us are wearing lipstick and mascara." The biker pointed out the stitching on Andy's face that looked like make-up. His goonies behind him were agreeing and exchanging high-fives as they laughed at the ragdoll. Before they could say anything else to him, Andy ran away.
He ran to his sister who was playing a board game, snakes and ladders, one of his favorites. He didn't ask to play though, he sat silently next to Ann and resigned himself to watching her play. He could still hear them across the room, he's sure if he looked they'd be laughing and pointing at him. It took all of his strength not to cry. He dug around in his overalls pocket for his paper flower, something that always made him feel less alone, upon finding it he put it safely in his lap. He smoothed out some of the crinkles in the petals, smiling sadly and humming quietly to himself. He hummed the song he and Ann always sung when one or both of them were feeling down, Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers. He was thankful for the ambient noise of the room so no one else could hear him. Or at least that's what he thought.
He was so deep in his own world he got startled when he felt Ann's arm wrap around his shoulders in a side-hug. After the initial scare he melted into his sister's embrace, leaning his head against her and closing his eyes. She leaned her head atop of his and they stayed like that until it was Ann's turn to play. She had to scoot forwards a bit and played one handed as she held Andy's hand. Andy paid more attention to the board and saw that the moose they met earlier had just won. They were all chatting and setting up for another round. As they were all ready to start Ann looked at him holding the two dice.
"Do you want to roll for me Andy? I could use some good luck," She asked with her perpetually kind smile. Andy nodded excitedly and rolled them, then Ann moved their piece. As the game went on it became more obvious to Ann that her brother had regressed, she wondered if he even realized it. Soon they were reaching the end of the game, it was what could be their last turn. Ann had to suppress a giggle when she saw just how seriously Andy was taking it. He shook the dice with both his hands before dropping them on the board, leaning in close to read what the numbers were. Three and five. Everyone else who saw had already put together the simple addition but waited for Andy. He counted the dots on the dice carefully. Eight.
"Annie!!! It's eight!! That's what we needed right?!" He spoke louder than he meant to in his excitement. Everyone at that board knew it was but we're playing like they didn't know so Andy could figure it out.
"Oh well, I just don't know Andy. Let's check!" So the two of them counted each pace with the player piece. The look on Andy's face when he realized they'd won was priceless. He was smiling ear to ear and got a few kind words from the other toys playing. He looked back at his big sister and she ruffled his hair through his hat. "See Andy? I knew you'd be good luck!" The boy beamed with pride, maybe this slumber party wasn't as bad as he thought!

I think I like the idea of Floyd happens to be in town for a gig, decides to go pay bruce a visit at his resort. Bruce is out at the moment doing something, Floyd asks one of the employees ( a newbie) for his brother but bc he doesn't know that jd there. They get JD instead. It takes him a minute but then wait are john dory?
Floyd? Bam reunion plus tears plus mini freak out when he realized jd leg is gone.
HAHA
I'll level up. Idk if this is REALLY what happens but let's see what I can do. I just can't quite make up my mind cause I kind of like the idea of things being linked with some music stuff but I'm also uncertain.
So I don't know what actually happens but I decided I'd use this prompt and word vomit something up anyways lol
Floyd didn't talk to any of his brothers much anymore.
It wasn't on purpose; it wasn't because of any anger or resentment or anything like that. He was just so busy, traveling so much, constantly on the move that it was difficult to find time for even a phone call when any one of them wasn't busy with something else. Branch was in school when Floyd had a lunch break. Clay was very often stuck in a lab or experiment when Floyd was about ready to go to bed - usually with the time difference. Bruce's full attention was constantly on his slew of young kids, wife and resort. It was a struggling process, but he had grown into mostly writing letters to his brothers rather than trying to catch them on the phone. It wasn't the best way of communication but at least he got more than a minute or two to talk to them and find out what was going on in their lives.
Floyd hadn't been to Bruce's resort in a couple of years. He hadn't seen him in a while. Any of his brothers really. It was a bit embarrassing, and Floyd was kind of ashamed of it. He was so busy, he barely had time for any of his brothers, especially Branch.
Even though there was a nine-year difference and a lot of times that kind of age gap made things difficult, Floyd tried to get along with his little brother the best he could. It was easy for a long time; his little brother just loved being around him. It didn't matter what they were doing but over time, as Branch got older, as Floyd had less time, things were far less easy.
Floyd wasn't even sure the last time he had seen his little brother face to face. It wouldn't be long until he graduated. He had to make sure he was there for that. Maybe he could get a hold of Branch or Gramma to see if there were any upcoming events, he could try to attend for him.
He was lucky, now, that his manager had managed to snag a gig in Hawaii. It wasn't super close to his brother's resort but at the very least, it was on the same island of Molokai, so he made his way to his brother's place of business.
He walked up towards the desk. There weren't many people around but Floyd couldn't quite recall the young woman at the desk. She was probably a bit younger than Floyd even. Then again, that wasn't strange. Although the turnover rate wasn't bad compared to other resorts and hotels, Floyd hadn't been here in years.
"Hi!" he greeted, leaning against the desk. "I don't think we've met? Or if we have I am so sorry, it's been a while since I've stopped by."
"We haven't..." the desk clerk looked at him a little confused.
"My name is Floyd," he replied with a smile.
The clerk blinked. "Oh. Yeah, I've heard about you." She had a bit of an accent, something from a southern area but Floyd wouldn't be able to know what it was. Her hair was pulled back and her attire neat but colorful. She looked like she fit right in, although Floyd didn't think she was a native of the island.
"I'm looking for my brother?"
The clerk looked up, a little confused. "Which one?"
There was no way that Clay was here visiting Bruce. Floyd was pretty sure Clay had never set foot on the island before. And Gramma wasn't really in a place to travel, much less to Hawaii so the chances of Branch, of all people being here were slim to none. "Uh... the one that is here?" his voice came out unclear and even more confused than the clerk.
A younger man came up to him, bringing a stack of papers and a snack. He was dressed in military fatigues, but he had no qualms about approaching. "Hey, I'm gonna be headin' off," the young man said, barely acknowledging Floyd. His accent was about the same as the woman's, although he was a little surprised by the attire. He seemed a little young to be in the military. "I already said my goodbyes to everyone else, but it shouldn't be long until I'm back, okay?"
"I understand," the woman replied, nodding. "I'll be okay, I promise."
"You'll be taken care of here," he added.
"I will take care of him too," she replied, knowingly.
The man finally looked over at Floyd, as if just noticing he was there. His head tilted a little. "You kinda look familiar."
"I'm Floyd," he started.
The young man looked surprised and then looked over at the desk clerk, as if for confirmation. "He's looking for his brother. Do you know where he is?"
"He's outside. I just saw him," the man said and didn't wait to dial a number on his phone. "Sir?"
Sir? Floyd had never known Bruce to be so formal and demanding of titles with his employees. He didn't think he had ever heard anyone call his brother sir.
"I'm at the front desk with Tam," he continued, calmly. "Yeah, I'm about to head out. There is a Floyd here to see you. Do you want me to make him go to you? I know it's not...okay, yeah. I suppose the practice would be beneficial, considering," he said in the phone, although he frowned a little.
Afterwards he hung up.
"He'll be here in a few minutes," the man said, shouldering a bag. It must have been on the floor before. "I have to go, otherwise I'm going to miss my flight. Stay out of trouble, okay?"
The woman - Tam? - nodded. "Of course. Good luck. Be careful."
"Uhm, thanks," Floyd said awkwardly as the man started to leave. "Do you... do you mind if I have a name?"
The man looked over at him curiously. "Oh. Right. Tresillo. Sorry, but I gotta go."
"Right, thanks."
And with that, he was gone. Floyd turned back to the desk, the woman typing on the computer like nothing happened although he did notice there was a bite missing from the snack she had been brought. "You can go sit down," she said, not glancing up at him. "It's going to be a few minutes. He's still getting used to moving."
Floyd had literally zero idea what that meant but he went and took a seat in the lobby, starting to scroll on his phone. He wasn't sure how long he waited for bit he heard some strange clacking on the tile floors. He thought nothing of it at first.
"Yeah. He said his name was Floyd and he was looking for his brother," he heard the desk lady say. "He's over there, John."
John?
Floyd asked for his brother.
Bruce's name was not John. Neither was Clay or Branch's.
Floyd's head swiveled towards her; nose scrunched in confusion, standing up at the same time. There was a stocky built man at the desk near her, short dark hair, dressed in shorts and a funky Hawaiian shirt. It wasn't abnormal, by any means.
There was something abnormal, that was for sure, but Floyd was trained too much on the man's face to actually notice anything else. He looked so eerily familiar. In fact, if Floyd didn't know any better, he might have thought it was Branch as an adult, dying his hair a little lighter and getting in some kind of crash or something. A large chunk of his face was scattered in still healing scars. Floyd stood up and walked over, a bit confused. It was probably fairly evident, considering the man could barely meet his eyes.
"Hi Floyd," he greeted.
Floyd just stopped short, several feet away. That voice.
"It's been... a long time and Bruce thought it would be better broken to you in person so that's why he hasn't mentioned anything," the man said, leaning on the desk awkwardly. "And considering how young you were when I left and the fact that apparently our mother decided I was no longer to exist, you might not exactly remember me. Definitely not recognize me considering well, me but uh..."
"Your voice..." Floyd just said. "I can't...I know it."
"Oh," the man flushed a little. "I used to sing lullabies to you guys when you were babies and toddlers. You and Branch seemed to like them the most he admitted. I'm your brother, John Dory."
John Dory.
John Dory.
John Dory.
What.
"JD?"
John brightened a little. "Yeah. Uhm...I know it's been a while and I definitely look a lot different but..."
Floyd scanned him, like he had to verify for himself or something. He wasn't entirely certain way.
But he did figure out what was abnormal.
Why John was leaning strangely.
He was on crutches.
Not just on crutches - nearly his entire left leg was missing.
Floyd was staring.
"Oh yeah, the leg," John said. It sounded rehearsed, like he had said it over and over and over again. "No, I don't know where it is-.”
Floyd just started sobbing uncontrollably, his brain entirely emptying of thoughts. He had no idea what to say, what to do. His mind was entirely mush aside that his big brother was here. Right in front of him without a freaking leg and Floyd had forgotten about him. He just forgot. How could he do that? How could that have happened?
“Floyd?”
He didn’t know how he got closer or when or whatever but suddenly he was right there and he shoved himself into his big brother’s chest and continued to cry. He felt an arm wrap around his shoulder and after that, he didn’t remember much.

6 - The Day before Cuba
Part 7
Battle of Heart and Mind
If you all have any good ship name suggestions for Erik and Addi drop them below in the comments ☺️
Tag list - ask to be added (in my ask box please) @aintinacage @hiraethrhapsody @mostlymarvelgirl @importantgalaxyrunaway
It was almost two in the morning when I was sitting awake in the corner chair inside our hotel room. I knew by now most people believed we were together but that was far from the truth. The hotel door creaked open. “I’m shocked to see you're still awake.”
“Yes we'll, I couldn't sleep.” I responded by never looking up from the book I was reading. Stuck on the same page for an hour.
Erik began removing his boots at the door. “What are you reading tonight?”
“I’m attempting to teach myself chess but I’m clearly terrible at it.” I answered his question.
He pauses in the doorway. “You’re learning chess. Whatever for?”
Rolling my eyes I don’t know why he acted so shocked. I spent most of my time stuck in the room by myself. “Have you ever considered that I might be bored when you’re not here hmm?” Shifting my gaze back to the page of the chess book in front of me.
“You could have said something. Or come with me when I go out for the day.” He suggested to me eyeing the map with all the markers on the wall dealing with my father.
I sniped back. “I have no interest in killing Nazi men, Erik. I know why you do so but that isn’t me.”
“Oh yeah. But this is you?” He picked up the only picture I had of my mother when she was with my father. Her hair was pinned up in a bun and she was pregnant in the photo. “What do you intend on doing with this picture? Carry it around for the rest of your life hoping the answer will hit you in the head.”
Glaring at him I turned the lamp light on a little brighter. “Don’t act like you care.”
“I lost my mother because of your family. And here you are so concerned as to why she left.” Erik turned to face me sitting the picture down on the table.
Shutting the book harshly in my lap I rose to my feet. “I’m sorry about your mother. But have you ever considered that I am afraid to find out why she left.”
“I hadn’t considered that, Addison.” He admitted lowering his gaze.
Lifting my gaze up to his stone eyes. “You should consider that you don’t know a lot about me. I’m going to bed.”
“No, don't.” He snagged my wrist when I went to walk past him, throwing my hair in my face. I turned my attention to him. “You’re right I don’t know you. So tell me about yourself.”
I couldn’t believe he was asking to know me. “How much have you had to drink?”
“I’m not drunk, Addison. I am trying here.” He fought back, still holding onto my wrist.
Yanking my wrist from his hand I pushed past him sitting back down in the chair I was in earlier. He watched me pulling up the side desk chair to the coffee table. “So the life of Addison Shaw is pretty boring. Only child, mother abandoned me when I was a baby and my father…didn’t really raise me after I turned fourteen.”
“My turn then I suppose. Only as a child, I was just like any normal kid until the day we went into the camps.” He lowered his gaze reaching underneath the coffee table. He sets a tiny chess board on the table in front of us.
I parted my lips, twiddling my thumbs together in my lap. “So how do we start the game?”
“Don’t worry. I’ll go easy on you.” He reassured me using his powers to move the piece across the board. Clasping my hands together I let my mind try and focus on the game before me. For once thinking he might let me see the side of him he keeps hidden.
Rolling over onto my back I stretched out in the bed that I was laying in. The blanket pulled up almost all the way over my chest. I wasn’t sure what time it was but I knew we had stayed out later than we intended too. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes I smiled lightly seeing Erik staring at me. “It’s creepy to watch someone sleep, you know.”
“Hmm that’s strange coming from you. Weren’t you the one who said you would be there if I needed you?” He questioned me, holding his head up by his hand on the side of his head.
Laying on my side to face him I was surprised. “I didn’t think you remembered that.”
“I have actually paid attention to what you say, Addison.” He says to me,
Raising a brow at him I felt that I needed to ask the question that I always had wondered since the day we had run away together. Everybody else that we had met called me by my nickname except for him. “Why do you do that exactly?”
“Do what?” Erik asked me.
I replied to him sitting upright against the pillow but still had the blankets pulled over me so I didn’t get cold. “Everyone else here calls me Addi like I asked them to. Everyone but you. You call me Addison even though you know I don’t like it. So I wanna know why?”
“Is this really that much of a worry to you?” He sat upright against the headboard arms behind his head.
Rolling my eyes I hit his chest seeing he was trying to joke here. “Yes I’m being serious. I want to know why.”
“I’ve only ever heard your full name be used by your father. It wouldn’t seem right to call you anything but that. Unless you’d rather have me call you Shaw girl like I used to.” Erik focused his gaze down onto mine.
Shoving my hands against his chest I scoffed at him. “I just want the answer to my question, Lehnsherr.”
“The answer is that….It makes me think we have something more special than everyone else you’ve met.” He leans forward creating a very tiny gap between us. I leaned my head forward closing the gap between us.
He raised a hand to my cheek cradling it gently. Gripping the fabric of his shirt I deepened the kiss until we heard somebody knock on the door. “Erik. It's time for training.” Charles's voice could be heard on the other side.
“You've got to be kidding me.” I grumbled under my breath.
He raised a hand to his lips. “Just keep your voice down and maybe he'll go away.”
The plan actually would have worked if my stomach had to start growling like crazy. I tried to calm my mind figuring that Charles probably wasn't going to leave. “Erik, you agreed to train with me earlier this morning. Then I will leave you to sulk over Addi and whatever feelings you have for her.”
“I have to go. I'll see you later.” I told Erik slowly climbing out of the bed trying to not make the wooden floor creak.
He sat upright on the bed slipping his boots on. “You owe me, Addison.”
“Addi, just say it please.” I snapped my head up, sending him a glare.
Erik steps towards me using his powers to drag me into him by the metal coin necklace. “Hmm…How about over a drink later, Addison.”
“Deal.” I agreed grumbling under my breath spinning on my heels facing the door where he slipped into the hallway. Waiting a few minutes I eventually left the bedroom going straight for the kitchen. Rummaging around in the cabinet I made myself a cup of coffee about to take a drink until someone uttered.
“You aren't very subtle.”
'`Jesus christ!’ I shrieked, levitating a knife at whoever was behind me.
Raven jumps backwards seeing the knife hovering in her face. “Sorry didn't mean to scare you.”
“Well , you did. Now what did you mean by "I am not good at being subtle?” I questioned the blonde dropping the knife to the island countertop and gripping my coffee cup in my hands.
She walked over and stood on the other side of the island. “It’s written all over your face that you spent time with Erik last night.”
“Oh gosh really?” I covered my face with one hand.
She smiled, beginning to tease me like we were in school gossiping over boys and such things that I would have liked if it didn’t involve me and Erik personally. “So what happened last night. Did you two know…” She pounded the air upward with her fist.
“Ew no. Raven, I hadn’t even kissed anyone until last night. We’re in no way close to that point.” I told her gagging on my drink, my face turning bright red just thinking about it.
Raven sent me a raised brow. “I knew there was something going on with you two. Boom, I knew it!”
“Okay, okay, calm down.” I ran a hand through my hair taking a long sip of my coffee.
The shapeshifter still was over the moon about us. “This is a huge deal. I mean everybody else thought that you two would rip each other’s head off. What with all the tension surrounding you, but not me. Ohh you’ll a couple name.”
“Raven, I don’t think you can call us a couple. We’ve only kissed one time.”
She wasn’t backing down though. “Yes but you want to kiss him again, don't you?”
“I….uh…maybe.” I stammered off sitting my empty cup down and covering my face with my hands while leaning my body into the island.
She squealed, throwing her arms around me in a tight but comfortable hug. I hugged her back lightly watching her run out of the room. “I will get back to you on that couple name.”
For the remainder of the day I just had the house all to myself until Hank came into the living room calling my attention. “Addi, come watch. Banshee is going to try and fly again.” I followed him up onto the large satellite that was outside of the mansion seeing that they had given him wings in his suit.
“And you truly believe I'll fly this time?” The kid asked.
Charles said. “Unreservedly.”
“I trust you.” Banshee says
Charles nodded. “I'm touched.”
Crossing my arms over my chest I was standing beside Erik eyeing the kid who was clearly panicking. “I'm gonna die!”
“Look, we're not going to make you do anything you don't feel…” Charles trailed off.
Erik gently pushed the kid off the edge. “Here, let me help.”
Scrambling to the edge of the railing I gripped the vars where Charles screamed out in pure panic. “Erik!”
Banshee began quickly falling down towards the ground where everyone thought he was going to get hurt. Yet he started screaming loudly and he flew up into the air. “Oh thank god….I am so going to kick your ass.” Glaring at Erik with my hair blowing in my face.
“What? You know you were thinking the same.” Erik chuckled placing his hand over mine until I slapped him lightly on the arm.
“The president is about to make his address.’ Everyone climbed down to the ground hearing the lady from the CIA call our attention before we all rushed back inside the house.
Gathered together in the living room in front of the TV it was declared to the world that a war was coming. “It shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear missile crossing the embargo line that surrounds Cuba as an attack by the Soviet union on the United States requiring a full retaliatory response upon the Soviet union…”
Erik stands beside me. “That's where we're going to find Shaw.”
Raven questions him. “How do you know?”
“Two superpowers facing off and he wants to start world war III. He won't leave anything to chance.” Charles explained.
“So much for diplomacy.” Erik glanced down at me, quietly leaving the room only saying the final word to me in a whisper. “I suggest you all get a good night's sleep…and it's time we have that drink.”
Slipping on a light blue sweatshirt and some leggings I made my way through the mansion finding Erik sitting in front of the fireplace. Rounding the couch edge I sat down beside him. “So tomorrow's the big day. I'm not sure I'll be able to get much sleep.”
“We will just have to try.” He paused in his sentence pouring me some drink into my glass handing it to me. “You do realize what I'll do when we locate Shaw right?”
“Yes I know.” Taking the glass from his hand I felt the burning taste go down my throat when I drank the Bourbon. “What will you do once he's gone?”
Erik took a long sip from his glass. “Not sure. What are you afraid I'll leave you?”
“Maybe I am. We've been there for each other our entire lives almost.” I admit tapping my fingers on the glass looking into the flame burning in the fireplace.
Erik shifted his gaze over to me silently watching the blonde at his side. He wasn't sure how strong his feelings for her were. He just knew that he never wanted to hurt her intentionally. “You don't need to worry, Addison. Remember what I taught you in chess.”
“A king always needs his queen.” I mumbled back to him with a soft tone and a smile on my face.
Erik finished his drink getting up to stand offering me his freehand tugging me up with him. He put our glasses on the table and lifted the coin in between his thumb and index finger. “I'll need this back tomorrow, Addi.”
“Don't you worry, Erik. You'll know where it is the entire time.” I nodded, lifting my gaze to meet his brown eyes. He focused his gaze on me standing close to me briefly before we separated and headed off to bed.

Nancy & Eddie; Nancy & Barb; implied Nancy/Barb cw: canon character death
Nancy doesn't go to the funeral.
They're burying an empty casket in an empty plot of land surrounded by empty minds stuffed full to the brim with coverups and lies and half-truths and Nancy just can't.
She knows how it will look, Barb's best friend not showing up on this important day, this celebration of life for the girl who never did anything but love her, it's only... just because it's better than the Hollands holding out hope for a search that will never end, that doesn't mean it feels like enough.
Not for Nancy, not when no one will ever know that she was the last one to see Barb alive and all she did was turn her back and walk away. No one will ever know that Barb had a bad feeling and Nancy didn't listen. No one will ever know that it was Nancy's fault, that if she had just gone with Barb maybe they would have been in the car before the Demogorgon found them, been able to drive drive drive to safety.
So Nancy can't go to the funeral, because it's not enough, this watered down story, and it's also far, far too much when she's spent a full year grieving alone and is finally allowed to do so out loud.
She doesn't know how to do that, how to let people see it, how to do anything other than fight it.
What she does do, however, on the day they bury an empty casket in an empty plot of land in East Hawkins, is hide in the woods.
There's a self-destructive part of her that longs for the damp, the living dead of what is Barb's actual final resting place. There's a selfish part of her that wonders why it couldn't have been Tommy Hagan or Carol who sliced their hand open that night.
There's just the Nancy part of her that sits in her funeral best at a mossy picnic table under a canopy of empty branches and longs for the chaos of a world-ending threat so she could at least have a place to put the rest of it.
The restlessness, recklessness, complete and under destructiveness.
"Nancy Wheeler?"
She almost jumps out of her skin, almost trips over her own feet stumbling off the bench and onto solid ground to spin around and confront the new presence in this little clearing, snagging her hose in the process.
How she didn't hear him coming over the sound of her own guilt is self explanatory enough, she supposes, but she works her jaw out of frustration on principle anyway.
"Sorry," Eddie Munson puts his hands up palms out and takes a step backwards, "didn't mean to startle you."
Nancy just hums out a terse sound of acknowledgment, feeling his eyes give her an intrigued and curious once-over, and sits back down with a huff and a shake of her head.
Maybe it should be her cue to leave, him showing up, but she's not going to be pushed out of her own head that easily. She's not going to be pushed out of this place of bastardized reverence by some guy she goes to school with.
"I just..." he chuckles half-heartedly and lacking a little bit in proper humor, "wasn't expecting Nancy Wheeler, is all."
"Can I help you with something?" she all but snaps, elbows on the table in front of her, one knee bouncing beneath it.
Eddie makes a contemplative face, eyebrows lifting high under the cover of crooked bangs.
"Usually I'm the one asking that around these parts," he says pointedly, tucking his hands under his armpits and tapping the toe of his shoe against damp earth.
Nancy looks at him, is seen in return, and then--
"Oh," she frowns ever so slightly as she realizes what he's insinuated.
"Yeah," he agrees, "hence the surprise about Nancy Wheeler."
Nancy scowls harder, down at her hands rather than him though.
"Stop saying my full name like you're making a point about something,” she says, although what Eddie seems to hear is come on over and take a load off buddy, because that’s just what he does.
The way he carries himself is like he’s aware of every one of his angles, not even in a self absorbed way, just like he’s present in his skin on instinct rather than the forced sort of perpetual narrative crafting that Nancy feels herself doing in every minute of every day.
He sits across from her and pulls out a cigarette, but he only gets so far as to perch it upon his lower lip before she’s snatching his bic out of his hands and leaving the thing unlit.
"Well. Alright," he deadpans, cigarette still sitting in his mouth and hands held frozen aloft as he looks at her with ever-growing intrigue.
Nancy doesn't want to be intriguing. She wants to be alone. She wants to be able to attend a funeral like a best friend should instead of sitting alone in the woods in her nicest black dress with her nicest black heels sinking into the mud beneath the table.
She flicks on the lighter and watches the flame flicker in the gentle but cold wind of the day, not going out but hand trembling slightly with the force of holding down the trigger the longer she does it for.
"Um. Are you, like, good?"
Stilted like he hasn't asked a person in a while, or maybe just because she's Nancy Wheeler. God. If only being a teenage girl in a small town didn't mean succumbing to a box and not being allowed to outgrow it no matter how much you see or do or feel or-- or--
"I'm not here to buy drugs from you," she tells him bluntly, flicks the lighter again when it goes out just to watch it burn.
"Sure," Eddie shrugs. "Wouldn't blame you though, honestly. What with. Today."
Her eyes flick up to look at him, and her face is just this side of too numb to control the kind of expression she offers him, but whatever it is has him meeting her head-on for a beat and a half and then... shrugging again.
"Okay," he says, easy as that, not trying to sell her on it in the slightest.
Nancy lets the lighter go out again and smacks it down on the table in between them with a bit more force than intended. Her hands aren't steady today. Her heart isn't.
She thinks the whole of the universe might not be, what with the opening of a space in the ground for a girl already long buried beneath another.
Eddie lights up and takes a long drag, exhales away into the wind so the smoke won't blow in her face. She doesn't know why he's here, why he's being-- maybe not nice, but a person to her.
All week, the whole town has walked on eggshells around her, afraid to breathe wrong near the girl who just learned her best friend has been dead the whole time as if she's not the one who told them. As if she wasn't there when it happened.
"When does it start?" Eddie asks, pulling one foot up onto the bench with him and perching elbow on knee.
Nancy glances down at her watch.
"Five minutes ago."
"You could still make it," he says on another exhale, "these things always take ages longer than you think they're gonna."
Nancy considers it, considers the optics of loud creaking church doors in the middle of a eulogy.
"Everyone will look at me if I show up late."
Eddie hums in understanding. Everyone's been looking at her all week.
She really doesn't want to give them further reason to stare, doesn't want to have this numbness take over in front of an audience that expects her to break down and cry with the catharsis of finally accepting reality because she can't.
There's nothing cathartic about this, barely even closure about it, and Nancy can't move, is hardly sure how she's talking to Eddie Munson of all people right now.
"Bet I could get you in under the radar," he offers so casually she almost misses that it's an offer at all, feels her brow pull together in confusion when she actually does.
"What?" she balks at him eloquently, but Eddie is unphased.
"If I walk in late too, no one's gonna be looking at you.”
“Why would you do that?”
She doesn’t know a lot about Eddie Munson when she thinks about it, what with him technically being two grades above her even if he’s hung around long enough to close that gap to one now, but something about the way he sits there makes her feel like…
It’s not that Jonathan doesn’t get it! It’s not that even Steve doesn’t in his own distant way. It’s not that— that any of them aren’t without their fair share of trauma and loss at the end of it all, but. Well, they haven’t lost someone.
Not like this, not like Nancy losing Barb, not like a person who is so inherent to your life that you can’t quite find the places where they end and you begin to make the amputation clean.
But Eddie Munson sits here smoking his damn cigarette and he said these things like he knows, is offering this thing, this massive thing she isn’t even sure she wants.
She doesn’t know a lot about him, but Hawkins is small enough to have heard tell of the fact that he lives with his uncle instead of a family somewhere in Kentucky.
“Did you even know Barb?”
The name tastes like blood on her tongue.
“We crossed over in band for a year when you guys where freshmen,” he says, a tug at the corner of his lips as he drops his gaze and ashes his cigarette off the edge of the table, “she was the most judgmental, funny little weirdo I’d ever met. Didn't take shit from anyone. I was kinda obsessed with her, not gonna lie.”
Nancy has to clench down on her jaw around the trembling flash of a memory-- Barb carrying her flute case when she crowded in next to Nancy on the bus, knees and shoulders touching, giggling with faces tipped close enough that sometimes, if she was lucky, Nancy could smell the distinct hint of perfume that she'd bought Barb for her birthday.
She breathes deeply where she sits today, gets nothing but the damp of rotting leaves and cigarette smoke.
"She was my..." Nancy chokes on it, because there's not a word that belongs there and because even if there was, she probably shouldn't express that to a near-stranger.
The phantom press of a knee up against hers, fingers intertwined with her own, faces tipped close.
Not a word for it. It's too big for that, really.
"She was yours," Eddie says, quieter this time, a little less confident and a lot more stunned in this big-eyed, knowing sort of way that has Nancy raising her hackles and all but shooting to her feet, heel lodged in mud enough to make her stumble in the process. "Woah, hey there--"
Eddie doesn't touch her, but he throws an arm out as though his instinct was to catch her, only for Nancy to jerk away and wrap her arms tight around her, closing her coat over the front of her body like it might protect her.
"I'm sorry," he says, staying sitting as though to prove something in the same way saying her full name was to prove something. "You don't have to-- be scared of me."
Nancy gets the sense it's the truth, she has a good sense of that kind of thing after all, but she laughs without humor as she looks down at the mud-caked toes of her dress shoes, the run in her tights right there on her shin.
She laughs, brittle and breaking, because the fact of the matter is--
"I have to be scared of everything."
When Nancy turns on her heel and walks towards the church, she isn't sure if it's out of obligation or want, but it doesn't matter anymore.
When Nancy cries alone in the shower, pretends to have found closure around everyone else, she's not sure if that's out of obligation or want either.
Living with the presence of Eddie Munson at the back of her mind for the next year and a half is a thing all its own, and she doesn't seek him out but she doesn't avoid the kind nods of I see you in the halls.
It's something like balance when, in the spring of '86, she's able to return a little bit of the favor.
Save him back, for the sake of a judgmental weirdo who played the flute.
For the sake of those of them still waiting in the woods.

Some of yall bout to be real mad at me...
Breakdown under read more.
Percabeth Energy: True love, made for each other, perfection, flawless, wholesome, zero bad vibes (Note: I planned to leave this part empty, but changed my mind when I saw these two ships)
Julerose is like a star in the void. In a show full of weirdness, these two are proof that an unproblematic relationship trumps all! For that, I give them the honor of Percabeth energy.
Tom and Sabine are just straight Julerose with the added bonus that Tom kicked his racist dad to curb and never looked back. Of only Marinette never found that guy again.
Lumity Energy: Full love, realistic problems but like not in an abusive way, the only reason these ships aren't giving Percabeth is because the show ruined them, yes that is what I'm going with, No I don't think Lumity is bad the name is just a joke
Alya x Marinette is a goated ship, fight me! "bUt WhAt AbOuT lIlA", everyone is an idiot in those episodes! Forgot Lila and remember that Marinette and Alya have a very supportive relationship that's mutual. Although, I couldn't completely forget about Lila which is why it's down here.
Lukanette was robbed. Luka x Adrien was also robbed.
So I don't dislike the gay boys but that one time Nathaniel ripped Marc's sketchbook just sticks in my head even tho he said sorry. It's not even in character for Nathaniel to do that! Oof. Still goated in the sauce.
I used to hate Marichat but then it went on to become the best side of the love square because it got so little focus?! More is less, and Elation is better than three thirds of the love square episodes.
Marinette and Kagami used to be such a wholesome relationship but then season 5 kept dragging out Kagami's kiddie pool sized jealousy for bad Lila episodes. At least I can pretend they don't exist.
Nooro and his only friend in the world. And now they've been separated 😭
BMBLB Energy: Not half bad, just not for me, may or may not be canon/developed well, I'm not criticizing BLBMB its just a joke
Adrien x Juleka could be cute, but it's one of those things that you have to accept will never be canon or even get episodes for it.
All of the other Lovesquare ships got dropped down here because of Arc Fatigue. Ladrien didn't even get a kiss!
Marinette and Marc got better development in Reverser than Nathaniel and Marc did.
"Back in my day, we used to ship Marinette with Nathaniel!" "Sure grandpa, let's get you to bed."
Ivan and Mylene wishes they could be the straight version of Julerose. These two are just weirdly codependent to the point that Ivan's last focus episode was like... season 1?
Skip
Adrien/Chat Noir and Alya/Rena Rouge had more chemistry with each other in two episodes than Alya had with Nino in the last 5 years (Yall bout to be really mad at me)
Adrien x Nathaniel could be cute, but it's one of those things that you have to accept will never be canon or even get episodes for it. Huh, deja vu.
Adrien and Nino had more chemistry with each other than Alya had with Nino in the last 5 years. Now I'm just doing it on porpoise.
"Oh look, a boy and a girl being friends? Not in my Westboro baptist church cartoon!!! They need to be married and have 8 children now!!!" Is the vibe this ship gives.
Past this point I don't really care about kwami shipping.
The only reason these two are up here is because the darkest skin background character managed to snag some sense of relevance. Good for him.
Klance Energy: waif like and blind, child like and bitter, guant visage, smoking mirrors, you have erased yourself, you learned to hate yourself, burning on the inside, he's tried so many times to take my life away, but he'll be the first to die tonight, I promise my dear
Remember when Chloe actually cared about Adrien before Astruc retconed her to be his spin on Marie Antoinette?
I stopped shipping it after Lies and you should too. Adrien was horrible to her.
Remember when Chloe actually cared about Sabrina before Astruc retconed her to not care about Sabrina at all and then he executive producers had to rerail her character by showing that she did care about Sabrina in her final moments?
GIRL, WHY ARE YOU WITH HIM???
Dosen't exist in canon, poor man's Lukanette in fanon.
Reread the last sentence. Also, I dislike the pare the spares thing.
Just wait until I get to Dj wifi.
GIRL, WHY ARE YOU WITH HIM???
Plagg/Tiki x Adrien/Marinette would be a good ship if half of the pairing weren't Fire emblem dragon wifu's that are 7,000 years old... but that's not going to stop some of yall, is it 😞
Skip
Reylo energy: forbidden, horrifying, abusive, wtf, GIRL WHY ARE YOU WITH HIM, unlike the other names I actually do hate Reylo
I do not ship canon Lila with anyone except the devil because she belongs in Gehenna. Reread this every time she shows up.
I do not ship canon Kim with anyone except his right hand because he deserves a kick in the teeth. All of the fanfictions that made him a mean jock were basically right. Reread this everytime he shows up.
Hi! It's me! I'm the guy who wrote Nino salt, it's me! I made a fic, where Alya punches him in his teeth! He should have never stalked her and assumed she was cheating on him; He should have never revealed her cover without her consent; why dafaq is Alya even still with him?
I refuse to ship Chloe with her victims.
Again, I refuse to ship Chloe with her victims.
Chloe is too toxic to be with prince Ali (Sabrina is also toxic so it balances out).
Kagami is too good for Chloe.
Three times the charm, I refuse to ship Chloe with her victims.
Max is Ace Me being an idiot
Does anyone even care about this AU anymore?
I am a big dumb dumb that confused Asexuality with Aromanticism. Whoops.
Marinette x Max does have some chemistry in the Gamer episodes. Unfortunately, Max stopped having episodes with her for some reason, and I blame the robot.
Boring
Do these two ever talk, or...
Well apparently the writers do because we're getting a special about them.
WTF IS THIS PICTURE???
WHY IS LUKA CHOKING NATHANIEL??????
