god I love it when a character is like “hello I’m a huge fucking loser nerd I have no idea how to talk to people I have no friends and I’m a loner” and then they ARE. they make friends and it becomes clear that all of their knowledge of how to talk to people comes from either books or movies or the internet or their immediate family members or whoever raised them. they struggle to turn their thoughts into something other people can understand. they get no bitches. they are so uncomfortable with any amount of external social pressure whether it’s people referring to them with terms of respect or the need to change their appearance to take on new responsibilities. so awkward in every conversation. if they have to be in charge of people they are simply incapable. either someone else takes over the giving orders part or everything goes to shit or they freeze up or they don’t stop talking. they have niche knowledge that they WILL bring up with little-to-no prompting and it WILL completely disrupt the flow of whatever conversation was happening. they wear a rotation of like ten graphic-tees and two pairs of old old old jeans and are flabbergasted as to why they might need more clothes. if someone flirts with them they are simply completely unable to reciprocate because they have no idea how it works. they are a loser. they are a geek. they are a nerd. they are a freak. they are a wierdo.

tl;dr: If you’re gonna make a character who’s a loner nerd, COMMIT TO THE FUCKING BIT

I think saying Saltburn is simply "homoerotic" really erases the obvious queerness of it. Like, okay. Homoeroticism is definitely related to but also distinctly separate from queerness. It's like saying The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) is not queer because Tom doesn't kiss Dickie, or even Peter for that matter. Like no, the whole film is literally about the obsession and heartbreak of queer desire. I'd argue Saltburn does literally the same thing, though not to the same level of success or nuance (and this isn't shade, I love this movie even if I don't think it's, like, good). But to imply that Oliver and Felix are just best friends with an intensely close relationship is ignoring literally everything about the film. Like Oliver is pretty clearly infatuated, aroused by, and in love with Felix, in the same way Tom Ripley is Dickie. Like this is not even subtext, it is the text of the film. He licks a bathtub filled with semen-water and puts his penis in the dirt of Felix's grave. And while those things are certainly not as interesting, or even disturbing (!!!) as Tom killing Dickie and holding his lifeless body (and making Dickie hold him back) but there's no "heterosexual" way to read this. And I'm not saying that this is necessarily good, or that you have to like it, or that you cannot be disinterested in the way Saltburn handles queerness, but it is textually queerness. It is not just homoeroticism. There is textual desire.

outside of the fact that everyone who has sex is murdered by the narrative, this is a surprisingly chill portrayal of female sexuality? these teen girls are horny and actively enjoying Getting It On with their boytoys. no pushy boyfriends sneaking in through their bedroom windows--these ladies are taking the initiative to sneak out and GET SOME. one of them gets laid and then immediately orders her boyfriend to get her a beer. (yes she gets Slashered soon afterward, but so does the boyfriend so honestly, gender equality.) yes the Final Girl is the only one not having sex, but she's not bullied for that, nor are her friends slut shamed except possibly by being murdered by the narrative

actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.

also the parents. where are the parents? it's halloween night and all the teenage girls are home babysitting their younger siblings? come to think of it, michael's first victim was his own older sister, whom he killed while she was babysitting him. teen girls are really shouldering a labour burden here. maybe parentification is the true villain

side note: mike commits his first murder wearing a clown costume...which is never referenced again? his 'iconic' costume is a generic mask and wig and jumpsuit, when we coulda had a Killer Clown Michael Myers??? travesty

He just needs to live long enough to find his brother.

The red hands are essentially pieces of himself (his soul, you could say??) that he wields as his method of restraint to the demons he has "tamed" so far. They act as a leash to contain each demons' powers, and he can loosen or tighten his hold on them as much as he wants. The number of hands required to contain a demon really depends on their individual strengths, but 3-4 hands are already very energy consuming.

You know what I hate about the internet? Sometimes people will just lazily slap a “citation” on an infographic and trust that they’ll be completely taken at their word and nobody is going to dig deeper. And it works all the time. As an example, please look at this photo someone posted to dispute my assertion that garlic can be toxic to dogs.

Okay well, kind of a pain to manually type in that link but obviously I am going to look into this study that is confident enough to recommend people feeding their dogs garlic. So here’s the article, kind of a weird journal choice for this graphic to reference from but looks like a legit (though 20 year old) study

Funny thing is, almost immediately this article acknowledges that garlic can indeed be toxic to dogs. The health benefits mentioned in the graphic are referring to human health, not canine. This section is literally in the introduction of the article and one of the first things you read. Emphasis here is mine.

Crazy to me that someone would imply that this article encourages giving dogs garlic when it in fact immediately asserts that doing so has the potential to cause hemolytic anemia. The article does explore the anti-thrombotic effects of garlic components in dogs and humans, but by no means does it say that “contrary to misconceptions garlic is safe for pets”. It is dishonest to assert this in an infographic. However the creator of the image correctly assumed nobody would check, because the person who posted it took it as fact without further investigation.

I am begging you to be skeptical. Check your sources. Check their sources. Check my sources. Learn how to dig deeper and exercise that muscle as much as you can, especially on the internet. You will be absolutely shocked how much misinformation is casually stated and received as pure fact.
