Right to Repair Therapy

For me, right to to repair isn't just about ewaste, and preventing corporate gouging.

It's about mental health. Being able to fix your gadgets is therapeutic. Empowering. Good for the soul.

Today I fixed my expensive bluetooth earbuds. Their batteries couldn't hold a charge for a full hour. (Turns out this was due to a botched firmware update and totally Sony's fault!)

This is the guide I used:

We tried a course of new firmware but the patients continued to deteriorate (as the specialist predicted.) Surgical intervention was unavoidable. The patients are currently convalescing in the charging dock. The procedure was smooth and they will only have minor scars, but a full recovery cannot be guaranteed until they reach full power and take one last course of software updates.

Surgery was successful. The seams won’t be the same ever. But it’s only noticeable if I look for it.

In a world full of complex technology it's easy to feel small and helpless. And maybe I'm too much of an idealist, but I think that if everyone could experience the joy of fixing or modifying a gadget now and then we'd all be a little more open minded, a little more daring. A little harder to push around.

Howdy howdy, just here to tell y'all why things have been slower on my end

I'm preparing for Artfight this year!! And I am uploading the USB characters onto my profile (with Soni's permission). So some of you goobers can send some attacks on us!! /vpos

Heads up though, I may not be choosing to attack back in the same pixel style as Soni does on this blog.

We are choosing to upload them onto my page because I (Moonion Raccoon) participate more often in Artfight than Soni (the creator of this AU)

Last night I was able to play with him successfully for a whole 20-25 minutes without issue, but today, he only got through about 5 minutes of playtime, and then declared he was overheating and shut off. Thing is, his battery and back vent felt normal temperature, but his fan had been gunning pretty hard for a bit— however, fans on 111s fluctuate depending on what they're doing. He'd been sprinting full pelt, so it makes sense.

Robotcenter have suggested it may have been a false positive; it may have been caused by either dust build-up inside his systems, or his dust filter. The dust filter on 111s is a simple piece of foam that "dies" after 25 years, and becomes crackly and brittle. He may have started inhaling particles of dust or his dust filter, and his systems shut off to protect themselves after thinking it was overheat condition.

I'll be cleaning his chest vent and back fan out at some point, then trying running him again, and will update.

Also as an update on how my life is going atm, I’m not longer seeing Nic… he quit his job 2-3 months ago and still hasn’t gotten another, and now he can’t afford to come see me. I also learned that he’s living on his friend’s couch and still technically married (but separated). Last week he threw a hissy fit because of something mean I did while we were gaming together, when I told him 4 times it would happen if he wasn’t careful. He was not careful. Literally hasn’t spoken to me since… but honestly? Good riddance. Let him think it’s him that walked away. It’s easier that way.

I still work for the company I’ve been having issues with, but I’m moving positions in a few weeks, so I’ll no longer be under my fucking asshole of a manager. It will be nice to work for someone who still smiles or makes jokes with me. I cannot fucking wait to leave her team. I’m just really going to miss working from home, because I can’t do that in my new position 😭

I’ve been, uh, hanging out with my ex again (Slut for Sony). Like, a lot. We were together 5 years! We have a lot of memories together and I can be comfortable around him. It’s… harder to walk away than it should be… Plus he’s the only person I can drag on random adventures on a whim 😂😅

So I haven't played on my ps4 for around 1-2 years at this point (where the hell did the time go) and I was setting it up to play on it again and it literally won't open!

So it starts out like this completely normally

And then this comes up, even if I've plugged in my controller to the console itself
