My HC’s for three fave songs from Epic: The Musical of Wachowski boys+ Shadow because that musical is amazing and I can’t listen to any songs other than those.

Sonic💙

Full Speed Ahead

The song checks all the boxes for him; a promise for adventure, hope and positivity. Eurylochus, Polites and Oddyseus remind him of his bros and him (but that quickly changes once he completely listens to the musical) But this song stays one of his faves .

Dangerous

He is all in for the vibes of the song, and he loves Hermes. And he agrees that sometimes you’ve got to be dangerous to make it back to your family.

Legendary

He relates to Telemachus’ need to prove himself, and his longing to his father reminds him of Longclaw.

He is so emotional at “ No idea if you’re dead or just too far.” Because he had no comfirmation of Longclaw’s death, and one part of him hopes that she somehow got to live.

And he admires Telemachus’ will to fight for his mother despite being surrounded by people stronger and older than him.

Tails💛

He is allowed to listen a very few of the songs, because of the violance they contain, argues that he has seen probably worse.But he makes the most of this limited experience lol.

Open Arms

Mostly because Sonic said Polites reminded him of Tails, and he sees the resemblence. Since he has his family now all the obstacles seem possible to overcome, and life is all brighter for him. The song mirrors those thoughts.(And he wasn’t allowed to listen to the Cyclops saga so he doesn’t know what happens to Polites so, yay?)

I can’t help but wonder

He relates to Telemachus for waiting on his father, and finally getting to embrace him. He waited for a family so long, and when he met Sonic first he felt the same way Telemachus felt, not sure of how to act. Then these feelings extended to the other family members, but they all welcomed him so now he can embrace them.

Little Wolf

He relates to Telemachus because he also had to hold his own against villagers bigger and stronger than him, and he adores the way Athena helps Telemachus.

Knuckles ❤️

Warrior of the mind

He too enjoys Athena & Ody’s relationship, she reminds him of his father and tribe with her lessons and advices. He agrees with her on turning off your heart in battle because feelings can result in fatal mistakes.

Six Hundred Strike

This song is an intense description of a battle and he loves how Odysseus takes strength from his fallen comrades, resulting in a ‘special move’ much like his ‘flames of disaster’

We’ll be fine

The way Telemachus inspires Athena to reunite/ help Ody reminds him of his brief fight with Sonic while they were trying to stop Shadow, how easy would it be for their bonds to break because of an disagreement if their situation was worse. Losing Tom and having their family fall apart could result in them growing farther, but they got through it together.

Shadow🖤

Odysseus

This is mostly for his pre- redemption arc. He’d be delighted that Odysseus did what had to be done for the betrayers in his palace.

No Longer You

He relates to it because he too lost sight of who he was on the way to his goal.

Would You Fall In Love With Me Again

This is because he too wonders if Maria would have loved him (platonically) even after all he had done. And he really admires Ody and Penelope’s loyalty to each other.Their love is not fake like in the series he watched with Stone. (neither of those man were worthy of that woman, she is not a prize to be won)

The (almost) Perfect Assistant

Is Sonic closer to Tom than Maddie because he imprinted on Tom as a bestie first? I've wondered this since seeing the trilogy for the first time...

It’s hard to imagine that he wouldn’t be at least a little closer with Tom than he is Maddie simply because of the events in STH1.

He even described Tom as his favorite person before even meeting him and Tom was the first person he went to when he needed to feel safe.

I know a lot of people sometimes see his outrage when Tom announces he plans to move to San Fransisco as out of character or over the top, but all I see is a kid with separation anxiety hearing the one pillar he had in Green Hills is leaving him behind.

All this is to say that im sure he loves and adores Maddie too. That’s his mama after all💙

What do the boys do when it's just them and their mama, maddie?

Sonic:

Spa day no doubt. One Sunday a month they both drop everything and spend the day on self care. She brushes his quills in all the hard to reach spots (lowkey takes him back to when Longclaw used to preen him and he melts) and he practices braiding her hair (Jojo has been teaching him).

They paint nails/claws respectively (Sonic would be lowkey embarrassed and say his claws are naturally that bright green under his gloves if anyone found out but shh their secret). Bundled up in fleece robes and surrounded in warm, sweet smelling soaps n such. Maddie is the only one he actively seeks out to just…..chill with. He will with Tom too but he has more fun out romping and getting into trouble with him. Maddie specializes in helping him slow down and relax because sometimes he forgets to. He’s getting better at yoga too thanks to her help.

Knuckles:

Oh baby he is her shadow…

Once he settles into their home (and finally understands he doesn’t need to protect it from everyday construction workers and door to door salesmen) he is insistent on helping pull his own weight around the house, literally in most cases. He’ll accompany her to the grocery store and help around her office at work. He likes horses a lot. What proud and majestic creatures they are!!

Loves watching her cook and is adamant about helping do so himself, with varying degrees of success. He’s even more into yoga than Sonic too. She also used to read to Sonic when he was first brought in. He kind of outgrew it and Tails tears through their collection on his own. Knuckles however…he cherishes the nights where she doesn’t work late and they can continue their book of the month together. His tribe would tell stories around a fire during colder months and it’s a comfort and ritual he didn’t realize he missed so much.

Tails

Where Knuckles is her shadow trailing behind her, Tails is attached at the hip. When they are alone together it’s infodump time, Maddie with biology/ecology and Tails engineering/aerodynamics. The nerding out overlaps when they talk astronomy. Maddie dabbles in it as a hobby and they study the stars together under her telescope.

Tails loves cleaning if you can believe it. Brings him a sense of peace and meditation which Maddie totally gets. They’ll often tackle a part of the house together, find some random junk in the garage or basement and then spend the next few hours talking about where it came from. Sometimes they take a night to do coloring books, just for funsies. She finds Tails is a quiet artist type on the side.

If she’s got all three for the day, she’ll take em to the skate park to blow off steam. Believe it or not she strikes me as someone who roller skated everywhere in college and still has some moves left, leaving her boys slack jawed in awe.

Set during Sonic 1 when Tom is still actively annoyed by this kids existence 😭😭😭 Even though I adore their dynamic when Tom is actively trying to be a father to Sonic, I also love when he’s just begrudgingly being a dad (he’s enjoying their time together he just won’t admit it yet)
