Am I the only one who struggles aggressively with the “A Grave Mystery” puzzle on Kronos Island in Frontiers??? I’ve had to use a guide every single time. That shit does NOT make sense to me

Ok so I'm playing through Sonic Frontiers and I noticed a little thing I haven't seen anyone mention yet soooo:

On Kronos Island, when you start the game, Sonic is standing straight up in his idle animation/Standing Animation. He's is cool confident self and has absolutely no issue doing so. (Below, Left)

Once you get to Ares, it's the same. He's confident. Cool. (Above, Right). Although, upon watching mine and various other peoples playthroughs I have noticed that it seems from a side angle that on Ares Island Sonic is hunched over just slightly, like his heads just a little too heavy. I wasn't able to screenshot this as I didn't notice it until reviewing other footage and well... its a Sonic game. People don't just stand idle lol.

Once you get to Chaos Island though? The SECOND you land from the Wyvern boss fight Sonic is standing like this:

And that just becomes his idle pose whenever he's not running. He's holding his head, he's hunched over, and when looking at it in game he's practically heaving he's breathing so hard. He, quite frankly, looks like he's about to collapse.

There are a lot of weird things about this game but the attention to character traits and story are the reason t play it. Because oh my gosh Sonic's IDLE STANDING ANIMATION shows how tired he is???? Oh my gosh. I'm losing it. Anywho so I just got on Chaos- XD Rip Sonic. I will be back with more if the fourth island heeds any updates to this.

playing through shadow generations: man, a decade to refine the sonic generations format actually goes to show how sonic frontiers kinda falls behind on a gameplay front. like its much more satisfying to play a handful of masterfully crafted levels than do a bunch of mundane 30-60 second long levels that barely engage my attention. i really hope sonic team incorporates more of shadow gens into the next mainline game, even if they do keep the open zone format, because now im a little removed from the hype cycle frontiers feels like an Okay game

listens to 0.2 seconds of the frontiers ost: nevermind this is the greatest game ever made.

#all this to say: frontiers is EXCEPTIONALLY good at building atmosphere #it NAILS pushing its visuals and soundscape to make you FEEL fucking epic even if the gameplay doesnt always back that up #i think shadow gens is a sign that sonic games Shouldnt try to be huge open world romps because that gets monotonous #sonic games need to be built first and foremost for people with adhd #cherie chitters

I hope one day we get a mainline sonic game focusing on a side character where sonic gets into trouble and need to be saved

#ramblings #put that boy in the damsel in distress role he's been badass for long enough #forces doesn't count bc he gets saved after like two or three levels and you get to play as him for most of the remainder of the game #tmosth doesn't count either bc it's a spinoff. also he gets better at the end to beat the final boss #i need a game fully focusing on another character where he is not playable at all #idk those titan!sonic doodles i did a really long time ago popped up in my notes again and got me thinking abt a game like that #where sonic is put through The Horrors and needs to fully rely on his friends despite his own status as Main Character and Hero #like shake up the formula a bit. it's a good chance to explore new gameplay styles or revisit older ones #and would make for an interesting narrative. exploring what kind of scenario sonic Can't get himself out of forcing him to rely on others #like titan!sonic. where the end conjures up a titan and traps him in it. basically using him as a puppet against his friends #but that was just a hypothetical ending for frontiers so the rest of the game would've had him be playable #what i want rn is a game where he Isn't the main character y'know #i should be sleeping rn lol

question: is the new Sonic Generations worth the price tag?

honestly i absolutely think so and i am notoriously apathetic about shadow. sonic gens is basically the same except for some fun dialogue changes, and i honestly was happy to spend the money just to be able to play sonic gens on my playstation, but the shadow levels are so much fun (despite the fact i generally suck at games) and are insanely cool to see. good level design beats the fact shadows overhyped for me . im having SO much fun

#i played gens up to planet wisp. i Do Not Care for it or time eater fight so i jumped to shadow #it’s BONKERS but it’s fun #slightly spoilery but the mechanical side of the game is very much like frontiers. which makes me a little sad they didn’t rework sonic gens #more to incorporate more of the fun parts of frontiers gameplay #but yeah the level design is GORGEOUS I’ve only done the first two so far but it’s exactly what sonic should be looking like today. give me #more maximalist sonic stages with the benefits of modern hardware PLEASEEEEEEE #the cyberspace levels were fun but this game goes so hard fully committing to these themes
