To be abundantly clear, I learned about the showrunner thing over a decade ago and simply have not bothered to fact-check since, so take that with a grain of salt!!

So if memory serves me right, Sonic Underground ended as unceremoniously as it did because the showrunner passed away rather suddenly. That said, has there ever been a fan continuation of the story?

Likely not animated, of course, but literally anything that strives to conclude the show? Just had this thought and was curious!

While I will now always watch the Japanese original over the English Dub of Sonic X, this scene from the dub will always have a special place in my heart. Between the music and the pacing, it balances the grandiose nature of Sonic’s abilities and life with his youthful charm and excitability.

This is something that the same moment in Japanese doesn’t do as well, in my opinion. The entire pilot does great at showing this off in both versions, but something about how the English dub closes the episode really sets up the viewer with expectations for something big while the Japanese plays it straight. Sonic’s natural confidence (read: ego lol) seeps through the English scene in a way I think is welcome to the episode.

It’s subdued compared to English Sonic’s performance throughout the show—much more akin to Japanese Sonic’s characterization—but it’s a moment that feels well deserved in the scheme of the episode. I feel like Japanese Sonic gets more of these moments in the original, where they lets Sonic sit in his Sonic-ness while the dub moves at a break-neck, zany pace that never gets too serious, and so this rare moment of respite from the chaos is nice and very well done.

For all the strange choices that the English dub makes, smaller decisions like this one make me happy.

I first read this some time ago and I’m not sure why I didn’t post about it then, but better late than never. Perhaps I was absolutely stunned by what I was reading. This work is such a beautiful portrayal of Sonic’s emotions that I truly believe works perfectly with canon. I would copy-paste this into a game if I could.

The characterization in this work is absolutely gorgeous and I’m confident everyone who reads this will love or at least deeply respect it! In my eyes, this work is a masterclass on how to portray their current canon dynamic and my heart swells at how adorable it is.

Movie Shadow might be my favourite portrayal of the character of all time. He is so fucking refreshing. Pre- and post-accident, Shadow is just a young kid trying to figure himself out. He isn’t needlessly edgy. He isn’t cold as a stone. He isn’t even all that mean. He is emotional in that he isn’t afraid to show emotion.
