sonic, part of loving someone is telling them everything, the good and the bad. turning into werehog isn’t really a bad thing? it’s really cool! and shadow would be super into it let’s be honest! when i started dating my boyfriend, i used to hate myself because i used to be a horrible person and i didn’t want him to find out. But i told him, and im glad i did, he didn’t focus on who i was but on who i was becoming . love is complicated and messy but part of loving someone is being vulnerable with them. you shouldn’t be ashamed of werehog for various reasons, 1) it’s super cool 2) it’s not like you purposely turned into werehog 3) you didn’t hurt anyone as werehog, 4) you are still Sonic. you were still a hero like you always have been. I understand how it feels to be ashamed of your past and Shadow does too. Shadow has had crazier forms than you have, his dad is technically a demon god! Let yourself be vulnerable with him, Sonic. He’ll help you learn to love all of you, good and bad parts. If not for him, do it for you.

my take on an older tails design!

random things:

- the right side of his body is pretty fucked up due to being caught in an explosion while fighting eggman

- got benched for a bit due to sonic going protective big brother mode but he went behind his back several times to help out with things. he is no longer benched

- in his preteen years, he acted more like sonic but once his teen years hit, he crashed (saving the world and being in constant danger since you were a toddler does crazy things to your mental health)

- still helps out with the restoration from time to time, but prefers to do his own thing

- a little more on the morally gray side of things. he still follows a lot of sonic’s principles but will go against them if necessary (does not always follow that “everyone deserves a chance to change” mentality….)

- still gets treated like the baby of the group. hates it

- inherited sonic’s stubbornness when it comes to injuries and will push past his body’s limits (rip his leg)

- facial expressions and explaining how he feels are both hard for him (im projecting)

- also inherited sonic’s need to bottle everything up

ppl saying they look to my comics for inspiration and pointers on how to format things is WILDDDD to me (and delightful don't get me wrong!! i am overjoyed) because like. none of you are privvy to the absolute WAHHH I DONT WANNNAAA bitchfits i was *CONSISTANTLY* throwing every time i forced myself to make a comic before i got into isat. like no joke. i considered comics such a fucking difficult medium they always drained my drawing energy so hard because they always felt like they took sooo long and had so many moving parts and were so much harder than storyboards (WHICH I ALREADY STRUGGLED WITH) because you had to account for panel shape and speech bubbles and-- like you get it. but genuinely for real. the sheer amount that i complained whenever i clawed my way through drawing a comic (which thus! was not very fucking much!!) compounded by the fact that i *genuinely have trouble reading comics*. as in, i really struggle to parse the flow of contiguous movement or action between panels (possibly connected to the fact ive got mad aphantasia?) of even really well done best-of-the-best professional comics...

... BUT. basically. what im trying to get at is. if you wanna learn to draw comics, evidently you super can?! I genuinely *didnt* draw comics before drawing isat fanart! I have no idea what it was about ISAT fanart that made it finally click for me? (I think it was... not having to think about colour? Removing a step from the process really helped. Plus, it being fanwork meant I could just start en-medias-res and not have to think about setup... Trying to cram too much explanation and setup into my oc stuff was always a big hurdle too...)

I find them fast to do now! and damn if i dont value speed in art (<- impatient little fucker). its still going slowly on my oc comics.. mostly due to the colour again, i think. but it's not extremely, ecruciatingly difficult anymore. is what im saying. and im genuinely baffled by it every time i put pen to page. its fucked up. did you guys know that practice makes things easier? . fucking perverted if you ask me.

As for looking at other people's things for inspiration. if you want to know where I was looking when I was piecing together the first couple fancomics I did for ISAT i want to specifically point at . well besides everything rebecca sugar has ever done (for hands and facial expressions *especially*), the main person i really dug into the work of was Leo Fox (Website link). I feel like i wanna point people to the source of a lot of the inspiration for my more off-kilter panel choices so you all can get the full experience rather than through my regurgitated mimesis. I'm now at the point where i can wing panel layout so i wasn't in there for longgg but. everyone go add it to your knowledge banks as for SUBJECT MATTER aka why i am i so deranged. those are squarely the 2019 postcanon homestuck golden era bleeding through my CLENCHED BITTEN DOWN JAW. A BULL TERRIER ON YOUR BRACHIAL ARTERY. namely that @/floralmarsupial and @/tomatograter's works (no i am not tagging them . im shy) are things i go back to frequently and floralmarsupials pure black/white inktober comics were *especially* an inspiration. if you've been following me a few months you may remember me reblogging a bunch of their stuff from 2019~2021 for seemingly no reason. this was why. The narratively divorced reality of jade strider & Liminal Space are big in my mind here. I balk to call myself anywhere near as good as these but these are what i'm aiming for, tonally and quality-ways with it. also detective pony but ive mentioned that already and thats farrrr too inside baseball for this post.

*Sonic and Shadow bump into one another on the stairs, Sonic nearly knocking Shadow over. He yelps and catches him by the waist* ...heheh.. heyy~

*Shadow holds onto him tightly, still leaning backward over the stairs* Just help me up before I get a concussion. *Sonic pulls him back up onto his feet and they walk up to the landing together. Much safer* I'm glad I found you. I want to talk to you about something.

*Sonic's smile breaks a tiny bit and he shrugs, looking away* uh... maybe? It would be cool, at least. But you don't have to show me if you don't want to, babe. I'm serious.

Heh.. maybe a little. Come on, love. *He takes his hand and leads him to their bathroom. Once they're alone, he starts the tub and looks through the medicine cabinet. He takes out a little glass bottle full of swirling purple liquid. Sonic leans over his shoulder to see it better*

Ooh! That's pretty. What is it?

It transforms water into something I can survive in.

...survive..? I thought you can swim?

I can when I look like this. Like you. *He turns off the tap and adds a single drop of the purple liquid. The water in the tub bubbles and slowly turns into an iridescent purple goo. Shadow glances at Sonic over his shoulder* But not when I'm... different. You may want to stand back.

*Sonic takes only one step back. Shadow takes a deep breath, closing his eyes. It's been a while since he used his squid form, but it's worth it if it helps his boyfriend feel better. He finds that piece of doom energy inside himself and focuses on it. He feels it begin to writhe in his chest and he gets a splitting headache.. an unfortunate side effect to his transformations. Shadow squeezes his eyes shut as the doom morph overtakes him, curling around his form until he melts into the new shape, leaving him to get his bearings through eight eyes instead of two. The pain eases and he climbs into the tub of goo to stay hydrated. Sonic looks like he just saw a ghost*

........ y... you're.....

..a doom squid. Yes. *Shadow's voice is still his, just.. different*

...you're so... cuuutteee ehehehe~ *Sonic hurries to the side of the tub, kneeling down so he can reach him*

What..??

Awww~ Wait, can I touch? Are you like.. poisonous or sensitive to salt or anything?

... No. Go ahead.

*Sonic grabs his face and rubs his nose against Shadow's* you're so handsome! Like you're always handsome, but... *is he.. getting emotional? His eyes are wet* but wow... you really did this for me..

... I love you, idiot..

I love you too.. *He kisses Shadow's nose. Shadow reaches up one of his arms to ruffle Sonic's quills*

You can let go now.

Right, right, sorry. *He steps back and wipes his eyes* Thank you, babe.. for... showing me.. *He sniffles a tiny bit as Shadow morphs back into his usual form and climbs out of the tub. Shadow pulls him into his arms, holding him close*

... no secrets.. whatever it is that's weighing on you... it won't change how much I love you.. Just like my secrets don't change how much you love me... okay..?

Heh.. are you kidding..? Look at me. *Sonic pulls back enough to look in his eyes. Shadow touches his cheek, wiping away the tear threatening to roll down his face* If you didn't deserve me, I wouldn't be here doing this with you right now. But you heard what I told Eggman at the dinner table. You're stuck with me, Sonic. Deal with it.

Sonine Prime ... Part 3

Hi, everyone and welcome back to Sonine Prime! The part of the show when I come out and talk about Sonine (and a bit of Sontails) in Sonic Prime!

Last time we finished up the set of scenes starting with their meeting and ended with Sonic and Nine's capture by the Chaos Council. This time, we're hoping to get to move on to the next episode before moving on to the next part😂

Starting out with an honerable mention of a moment!

"Nine! Is that you?"

Nine: You're just wasting your breath.

And then, just before Sonic is put through a series of grueling diagnostic tests, Nine is used as collateral to get him to comply.

"Do not fight them. It will only end badly. For him."

"Nine!"

"Okay, let's start the test. The sooner we do this, the sooner Nine and I can get out of here."

Another small thing:

The way Nine tenses up furing the first test, as Sonic risks being shot by both laser guns (another tick in the "Nine cares a surprising amount about someone he just met" box)

Sonic loses his footing in the giant hamster ball filled with spike balls.

"Sonic!"

Which of course, makes Sonic palpably annoyed

Hmmm almost reminds you of when Eggman insulted Tails, doesn't it?

"You wanna test me, Eggheads? Question. How do you tick off a hedgehog? ANSWER. Mess with his friends!"

Sonic begins to "hallucinate" as he says, and we're treated to another flashback

Amy: I guess he didn't hear the stick together part.🙄

Knuckles: Does he ever?

Tails: No. But he also hasn't let us down when it really counts! You know Sonic. He'll catch up at some point.😊

No comment about how everyone else is at least mildly annoyed at Sonic and Tails stands up for him in a way that redirects their attention from what Sonic did/is doing to the fact that he'll be there when they need him.

Good bye Season 1 Episode 1 of Sonic Prime, hello Episode 2!

Sonic looks at Nine, has a flashback/vision of seeing Tails and Shadow before the shattering. Then, he looks at Nine both after being confused and still a bit out of it

Okay, so aside from that funny little moment (Sonic's face), there are some little things to piece together from Nine's end after the council brings out the energy extractor.

First, unlike Sonic's repeated winking afterwards, Nine winks at him smoothly. He doesn't change expression as he does so, and it happens in a singular smooth motion. This makes sense as to why the message Sonic received from the wink was a sort of "I have a plan". While we can't know exactly what he meant, what is clear was that the wink at Sonic was deliberate.

Second, the way he plays off the earlier wink. I think it's pertinent to mention that he's at the end of two Eggforcer's weapons, and Sonic hasn't exactly been subtle this whole time with the winking. His fairly loud whisper to Nine about a plan isn't exactly subtle either (and Nine isn’t exactly the confessing to caring about someone type), so it makes sense if he plays the earlier wink off as having dust in his eye. There is a real contrast begin the smooth wink before and the way he rubs his eye when he says he just has dust in it. That also being said, they did just meet still, so even if Nine cares about Sonic a surprising amount, I think it can be true that his earlier wink was him trying to tell Sonic that he's thinking of a way out of this just as much as it's true that Nine might prioritize making sure he'll live at least if Sonic's not going to survive the extractor. And since this is all about talking about ways certain bits in this series can be interpreted, anyone want to talk about how "I just had dust in my eye" is commonly used by characters who are pretending they're not tearing up due to the display in front of them? Nine has been watching this display of a hedgehog's last words with...an interesting expression on his face, I'll say. Is he...confused? Just thrown off by how Sonic’s acting here? Dumbfounded? Who knows. All we know is that the camera cuts to Nine quite a bit to show us his changes of expression as Sonic speaks, and that after Sonic looks at him for a prolongued amount of time (after asking if he has a plan), his expression instantly changes. This is to say, even though he clearly wasn't tearing up/betraying sadness in that moment, what if Sonic looking at him then, asking if he had a plan, sort of made him feel laid bare? What if he was afraid for a moment that his expressions betrayed his thoughts and feelings on the inside? I mean, imagine meeting someone for the first time and caring about another person for the first time in years. Imagine you've been lonely and isolating yourself for years of your life, and this hedgehog you've barely met uses his last words to call you one of his friends. Imagine he's begging on what could be his death bed for a plan, and you haven't worked anything out yet (even though earlier you'd winked to make him feel better, feel like there will be a plan). He could die, you don't know what to do, you're still not sure why you care, why this makes you sad. You just met him didn't you? He looks at you for a while, asking for a plan, and for a moment, as you're afraid something will happen to you as he mentions plans to free him, you're also coming to terms with the thought that this hedgehog *could* die. Playing it off as just dust in the eye doesn't just save you from another nasty shock, but it protects you from feeling like the hedgehog is staring right into your soul, seeing your conflicting feelings.

Third, after Sonic says "looks like this is game over" and seems to accept there's no way out, the extractor closing in, the camera cuts away to Nine again, zooming in on his face. There's a subtle shift in Nine's face right then and he looks...almost sad, or like he finds it hard to believe that this is real. Then, when it cuts away from Sonic again, after he says goodbye, Nine's eyes are wide.

Actually, on Nine's expressions during what he and Sonic both believe to be Sonic's last moments, I may have hit the picture limit, but I can at least embed a clip here so you all can watch Nine's expressions.

All I'm saying is that if Nine wasn't having feelings about all this in some form, the creators would not have chosen to keep cutting away to Nine's expression, bidding the audience to see and wonder how he feels about all of this. And I think the fact that Nine is reacting at least a little, not looking bored or uncaring or as if he's trying to get this over with, tells us a lot about Nine and what the creators wanted the audience to focus on.

More evidence to the "Nine cares a surprising amount for a hedgehog he just met and doesn't only care about him out of curiosity/what sonic can do for him" box

Not to mention that just after this, when Nine gets his chance to slip away, he frees Sonic right after freeing himself. This is one of these scenes that *is* arguable, as there's really no point in him leaving Sonic there to die. But, we know that Nine has the capability to go on the offensive (not just because of the entire fight scene from episode 1, but also from the fact that he destroys/dismantles an eggforcer at the computer without even needing to turn around) and Rebel and Renegade are there. So it personally tells me a lot that Nine didn't leave Sonic there to fend for himself (especially since he'll later weigh his options and choose to leave Rebel, Renegade, and Rusty to the council over the chance of saving them and losing the red shard).

Wooo! Season 1 Episode 3, everybody, let's go!

Now, this episode starts with a pre shattering flashback. Just like in episode 2, Sonic's friends talk about how annoyed/frustrated they are that Sonic isn't yet fighting with them. After everyone says their piece, Tails again stands up for Sonic, telling them that Sonic will arrive at some point and that he knows he will.

(We'll come back to these flashback bits with Tails standing up for Sonic while others don't trust/believe in him or are annoyed at him later)

And back to the present, Nine just manages to take control of Rusty Rose in time to save Sonic.

Now, as there are a couple things I'd like to bring to everyone's attention with the aid of screenshots, until part 4, everyone!

Next time we'll hopefully get to tackle the rest of episode 3, and there should be smooth sailing til the last few episodes of the season after that.

I finished season 2 of Sonic X and OOF I have many feelings. Especially regarding Chris. You can literally see his anxiety rise and rise and rise over the course of the last 3 episodes. My poor boy reached his breaking point 😔

He doesn't know how to say that he hates that.

Not because he doubts Amy, or because he's not grateful — past his own embarrassment — at how unabashed they are about who they love, including him. When he's so often loved as a mythic hero instead of what he is — just a guy! — it's comforting to know how clearly Amy sees him and how much they care about him anyway. But all the gratefulness in the world doesn't undo the fact that the words chafe.

When he was younger, he'd probably have rolled his eyes and run off, fleeing her cheesiness and he declarations and her EVERYTHING. He's older now, hopefully wiser, and doesn't want to hurt his friend. But he can feel the way his posture goes tighter, tenser. UGH.

He doesn't want that kind of devotion, he doesn't want anyone to bend over and do anything for him, like he's anything special. That just feels like being trapped. He especially doesn't want one of his best friends, who's also the strongest person he knows in the ways that matter, promising they'll do anything for them like he's — what? More important than they are? Someone special?

"Heh — c'mon, Ames, y'don't wanna make those kinda promises! What if I ask for, like, 80 giant chilidogs or somethin'?" Dismissive — but not cruel, and he's working very hard at not snapping or being unkind like is his instinct when he feels claustrophobic the way he does now. The way he does when people talk about him like more than a person, swallowing his unfair anger. The easy words come alongside a shrug and a laugh. He wants to bolt and doesn't. "Yer doin' more than enough already, seems t'me."

How would you feel about Future Sage taking care of Silver in a similar way Mammoth Mogul did in Archie?

Hmm, I think it would depend on what Sage's reasons for it are. I would find it interesting if she does so because she knows about Sonic's friends, or at least I reasonably assume Eggman gave her information on them. And thus, she likely is aware Sonic has a psychic grey-furred hedgehog friend from the future. When she comes across a little baby Silver in the future, perhaps she would be moved to care for him because she knows history dictates Silver has to go back in time? For that, he does need to first grow up to a teenager, and thus he absolutely should not perish before that. But I feel like it would heavily depend on how loyal she still is to Eggman compared to the friendship she gains with Sonic over Frontiers, since Silver is directly responsible for foiling some of Eggman's plans in the past. But if Sage's loyalty to Eggman has become more brittle over two hundred years (and I can see that happen, since Eggman is simply not kind to his creations; e.g. he left Metal Sonic, his alleged pride and joy, to just rot away on Little Planet in Sonic 4 and only reactivated him once he could get a use out of him once more instead of rescuing him immediately. Who knows what he would do to Sage once he has invented an even better AI?), perhaps she would be more inclined to help Sonic instead by providing him a powerful ally from the future. I think she could make a relatively good caretaker for Silver, now that she has two hundred years of both good and bad life experience to pass onto him. So overall, I would be open to it!
