I spent a lot of today and last two days getting Sonic and Shadow Chao for the first time, on my steam deck. Granted it was mostly leaving the game idle while watching youtube or something.

Already played through SA2 on pc, but wanted to try it with a controller layout (I don't have a good separate one to use exclusively for my pc) and since it's much more comfortable to replay stages that way I decided to do it on the deck. Which btw I have because my pc is OLD and cannot run graphically high end games...

Chao are precious I hope to one day see the garden mechanic brought back! It's really cute how much personality it has for a little side minigame type of deal, I'd like it to have more of an impact in a game if it returns, but I wouldn't complain if not. When I first played through the story on PC it was a sweet, relaxing break between stages the times I grabbed the key to go straight to it afterward.

High Quality Never Dies.

The end of Season 3 was quite a tumultuous time for SiIva. Being a music channel on YouTube, the SiIvaGunner channel always teeters over the gaping maw of copyright strikes from music production companies, made worse by YouTube's lack of protection from these false strikes. All of SiIvaGunner's content obviously falls under the umbrella of fair use by the nature of the channel: its core goal and aim is to REMIX music, not reupload it. Yet, in December 2018, eight videos were targeted by Sony Music Entertainment of Japan, which eventually spiralled into the channel's deletion at the beginning of 2019. Five years and one day ago, on January 9th, SiIvaGunner celebrated its third anniversary - with its main channel dead in the water due to YouTube's incompetency.

It's a damn shame that shit like this can happen to just about any aspiring creator on YouTube, and the team was immensely fortunate to have an audience large enough to catch YouTube's attention this time. By February of that same year, the channel was back, Season 3 was over, and Season 4 Episode 1 was officially online. And those copystruck rips were not going to be forgotten.

Kill & Learn (Recut Ver.) is not the same rip as the one that was initially part of that eight-video striking spree from 2018. Yet its an absolutely terrific remastering effort, uploaded during the long-awaited STUDIO TRIGGER event later in the Season. Much like the Planet Wisp Mashup Medley, its a direct tribute to the legendary ripper Triple-Q and one of his many in-jokes, of drawing comparison between the stories of Sonic Adventure 2 and STUDIO TRIGGER's Kill La Kill. Kill & Learn (Recut Ver.) is technically the third spin on this idea, with Triple-Q's own mashup Kill la Kill OST: Final Boss Theme first, followed by the original Kill & Learn (Uncut Ver.), and finally with Kill & Learn (Recut Ver.). All three follow the same premise, mashing up Kill La Kill's second OP Ambiguous with the main theme of Sonic Adventure 2, Live & Learn, yet all feel very different from one another. Live & Learn (Recut Ver.) is, to me, the ultimate endpoint of this concept, and the best of the three - it screams hype from every point of the song, with Live & Learn's vocals fitting the instrumental of Ambiguous like a glove - it's a mashup that felt destined to happen, and is here executed with five years worth of refining.

It warms my heart to see Kill & Learn (Recut Ver.) sitting at such a high view count (over 700K views as of writing) despite the troubled circumstances of its production, of how the original Kill & Learn (Uncut Ver.) is likely never going to be back up on YouTube. Yet, through the hype of the STUDIO TRIGGER takeover and sheer love of the original rip, we found a way to push this rip far past the original's view count. No matter what, high quality finds a way to live on!

Super Sonic design sheet I have been meaning to make for. So Long. I have thoughts about the Super Sonic forms so excuse me as I go on

Super Sonic (StH2): When Sonic first goes Super, he has not made a connection with the Emeralds yet, so he kind of ends up like Fleetway Super Sonic but he isn't a complete sadist. He's just unstable, and that's why he has the fiery quills, Sonic's form is kind of destabilizing due to the raw power

Super Sonic (StH3): The second time Sonic goes Super, he's much more stable, as the Emeralds have become accustomed to being around him (as he keeps them until he and Tails end up on Angel Island). He isn't all fiery because his form is not destabilizing to any degree. This is kind of the base Super Sonic form before Sonic himself obtains Chaos DNA

Hyper Sonic (S&K): Sonic goes Hyper one time due to just how strong the form is. The powered up Chaos Emeralds are almost too much for him to handle, but he reigns it in long enough to get back the Master Emerald. This form is stronger than Super Sonic 2, but that's because it uses the Super Emeralds, rather than giving power to the base Super form. His eyes resemble Fleetway Super's eyes but they're green (due to the Master Emerald powering up the Chaos Emeralds). After losing the Hyper form, Sonic's eyes remain green. His eyes would be brown if this hadn't happened. Hyper Sonic is painful to use, maybe Sonic could use it in present day, but he was a child when he first used it.

Super Sonic (SA1): During the events of SA1, Sonic accidentally ends up absorbing some of Chaos' DNA, which leaves the markings on his quills and his new tail. This is essentially the StH3 Super form but with some added flair

Super Sonic 2 (Frontiers): This is the Super form combined with Sonic's Cyber Corruption and is stronger than normal Super Sonic, mostly because it is a powered up version of that form, it is still weaker than Hyper Sonic. The quills are red, based on the Red Chaos Emerald, since Sonic's motivation in this game was saving his friends, which he was pretty dang passionate about, it's also influenced by the color of his Cyber Corruption. His colors invert because it looks cool. He has flaming quills again due to the instability

Super Sonic Cyber (Frontiers): If Sonic could have control while he was paralyzed by the Cyber Corruption, it would probably look a bit like this. It's notable that in our version of the series, Sonic still has his Cyber Corruption, as it's a mutation (according to Tails) and is thus part of his DNA. This form hurts Sonic to use more than Hyper Sonic, and he doesn't really want to use it again. If he were in this form for a longer amount of time he probably would have lost himself a bit, since the Cyber Corruption was messing with his memory (thanks, The End)

Some people playing the DLC rn have never played Eggmanland from Sonic Unleashed and it shows.

To be fair, I ALSO think the DLC is holistically too hard (it’s unforgiving on hard mode and, at some points, even on easy). I was stuck on master king for 9 hours. But I’ve seen people say that the DLC is unrealistic for a child as if Sonic has never been this hard before.

Sonic Unleashed is difficult. Sonic 06 (for a number of reasons) is difficult. Hell, Sonic Adventure 2 is difficult. All of the classic games, to a degree, are difficult. This is also an optional, free story. It can be entirely bypassed, if needed.

Sonic is a franchise that challenges you. It dares you to push past your limits because that’s the whole entire thesis of these stories (quite LITERALLY for Sonic Frontiers).

The beautiful thing about being a child is that you have resilience. You will get up and try again. Something we can learn from children (and this franchise) is that it’s okay to fail. Pace yourself.

It’s okay to struggle and complain about your struggle. That’s a good thing, in fact. But this isn’t new.
