As we all know, the Our Flag Means Death fandom community is spread across the globe (Awesome map set up by the RenewAsACrew team and filled in by the fans!)

So how about we celebrate how international we are and focus on non-English languages with a fanworks fest that will run from the 7th of February 2024 until the 15th of February!

7th & 8th of February: Write fic in a non-English language OR translate a fic into a non-English language. (If you want to do the latter and translate someone else's fic, check the fic author's profile to see how they feel about translations!)

9th & 10th of February: Make fanart or a fan comic in a non-English language.

11 & 12th of February: Make an OFMD fanvid to a non-English language song. (Hard mode: Don't use Con's French version of La Vie En Rose. Bonus points if you make a supercut of all the different dubs of Oh Daddy for some multilingual awkwardness)

13th & 14th of February: Write meta on the translation choices made when it comes to dubbing and subbing to a non-English language you speak, OR write about meta about the use of non-English in the show.

For example, here is some meta from a while ago on the German dub and how it handles the formal and informal form of address, and here's one that does the same with French.

I have come very late to this fandom and have found it to be quiet but filled with a sense of delighted energy any time some new scrap of content passes into view. You might say it's like a lake with fish in it, peaceful on the surface until they all come bubbling up around a few breadcrumbs...

I am hungry for more breadcrumbs!! Let's harness that energy for the greater good with @fandomtrumpshate, an annual fanwork auction raising money for progressive nonprofits!

Carats were surprised with SEVENTEEN’s Minnie’s sudden appearance at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Tokyo, February 9th. The idol had expressed her love and appreciation for the pop singer multiple times before, yet fans were shocked when she attended the concert 700 miles away from Seoul with no other member in sight.

Minnie seemed to have enjoyed her time during the concert, singing along to the songs by the American musician, making Carats turn to Social Media almost instantly, updating other fans about her whereabouts and well-being. Yet, some netizens were left unamused, disappointed and angry by the idol’s spirit.

“Singing during a concert is one thing, but the way she shouted out certain words seemed almost disrespectful.“

“Taylor Swift is known for her misandrist songs. No idol, especially not someone with a popularity like Minnie, should even think to sing those lyrics so passionately.”

“I don’t care if she likes her music, to be honest, but she doesn’t have to be so open about it.”

“I wonder what her members are thinking about her singing songs belittling men…”

The critique of enjoying feminist songs followed quickly after.

Carats did not hold back as they came to defend the only female member of the widely popular idol group.

Minnie has yet to respond to the hateful comments, but Carats are positive that she won’t address this issue and continue enjoying her life as a happy “Swiftie”.

High Quality Never Dies.

The end of Season 3 was quite a tumultuous time for SiIva. Being a music channel on YouTube, the SiIvaGunner channel always teeters over the gaping maw of copyright strikes from music production companies, made worse by YouTube's lack of protection from these false strikes. All of SiIvaGunner's content obviously falls under the umbrella of fair use by the nature of the channel: its core goal and aim is to REMIX music, not reupload it. Yet, in December 2018, eight videos were targeted by Sony Music Entertainment of Japan, which eventually spiralled into the channel's deletion at the beginning of 2019. Five years and one day ago, on January 9th, SiIvaGunner celebrated its third anniversary - with its main channel dead in the water due to YouTube's incompetency.

It's a damn shame that shit like this can happen to just about any aspiring creator on YouTube, and the team was immensely fortunate to have an audience large enough to catch YouTube's attention this time. By February of that same year, the channel was back, Season 3 was over, and Season 4 Episode 1 was officially online. And those copystruck rips were not going to be forgotten.

Kill & Learn (Recut Ver.) is not the same rip as the one that was initially part of that eight-video striking spree from 2018. Yet its an absolutely terrific remastering effort, uploaded during the long-awaited STUDIO TRIGGER event later in the Season. Much like the Planet Wisp Mashup Medley, its a direct tribute to the legendary ripper Triple-Q and one of his many in-jokes, of drawing comparison between the stories of Sonic Adventure 2 and STUDIO TRIGGER's Kill La Kill. Kill & Learn (Recut Ver.) is technically the third spin on this idea, with Triple-Q's own mashup Kill la Kill OST: Final Boss Theme first, followed by the original Kill & Learn (Uncut Ver.), and finally with Kill & Learn (Recut Ver.). All three follow the same premise, mashing up Kill La Kill's second OP Ambiguous with the main theme of Sonic Adventure 2, Live & Learn, yet all feel very different from one another. Live & Learn (Recut Ver.) is, to me, the ultimate endpoint of this concept, and the best of the three - it screams hype from every point of the song, with Live & Learn's vocals fitting the instrumental of Ambiguous like a glove - it's a mashup that felt destined to happen, and is here executed with five years worth of refining.

It warms my heart to see Kill & Learn (Recut Ver.) sitting at such a high view count (over 700K views as of writing) despite the troubled circumstances of its production, of how the original Kill & Learn (Uncut Ver.) is likely never going to be back up on YouTube. Yet, through the hype of the STUDIO TRIGGER takeover and sheer love of the original rip, we found a way to push this rip far past the original's view count. No matter what, high quality finds a way to live on!

daphnejonesricciardo it fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of speak now will be out july 7 (just in time for july 9th, iykyk 😆) i first made speak now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. the songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness. i love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing… and living to speak about it. with six extra songs I’ve sprung loose from the vault, i absolutely cannot wait to celebrate speak now (daphne’s version) with you on july 7th.

You hovered in the doorway and watched everyone for a moment.

It was one of the rare times that (nearly?) everyone was at the Manor. Cass and Dick had even managed to convince Jason to come. (No one wanted to leave him alone right now.)

Bruce was sitting in an armchair, watching and smiling softly as Tim and Damian argued and Duke stole snacks from both of them without notice. Steph was on the couch throwing her popcorn at everyone, Cass curled up between her and Jason, with Dick on Jason’s other side gesturing wildly when he was participating with Tim and Damian, softening his whole body when he snuck a glance at Jason.

You didn’t want to interrupt but you had to. You didn’t even know where to start, how to tell them … Ideas flew through your mind as you tried to come up with a way …

“He screamed. In the end.”

Quiet. Everyone turned to look at you in the doorway, Alfred hovering behind, a picture of calm although you weren’t sure what he was feeling internally.

Well, that’s not how you were trying to start but you couldn’t stop the words spilling out from you now. “At first he wouldn’t stop laughing, but he screamed in the end.”

Jason’s chest moved infinitesimally with a hitched breath.

Dick said your name softly, confused, worried.

You think you saw realization and understanding in Cass’s eyes.

“I wanted to make sure he couldn’t hurt anyone anymore.” Your focus was on Jason, his eyes warring with emotions. “It was late, but it needed to be done. He wouldn’t’ve stopped on his own. So, I stopped him. I killed him,” you confessed.

“What are you saying?” Dick said, asking for the group. No one else wanted to ask the questions piling on their tongues that you could read off them clearly by the way their browns furrowed and mouths twitched as they tried to … reconcile what you were saying. Admit to themselves that you were telling the truth. Forgive you, maybe, for what you were confessing you’d done.

“Harley didn’t kill him.” You held Jason’s gaze. “I did.”

You tried to convey that he would never be back. Never be able to hurt someone, kill someone ever again. He was gone for good. You and Alfred made sure of that.

“And I helped,” Alfred said, stepping up next to you.

“Alfred?” His name came from two voices. Bruce’s hurt, confused, betrayed, and Jason, quiet, warring emotions, but thankful.

“You are not the master of me,” Alfred said gently. “I respect your lines and morals, Master Bruce, but they are not my own. I made my choice consciously. I should have made it years ago, but it was only upon hearing the request that I gained the courage to act.”

Dick said your name again, there was hurt in his voice, but … less directed at you than in general, and there was gratefulness in there too, you thought.

Jason stared at the two of you, until suddenly he was crying.

“Oh, my boy,” Alfred said softly, walking forward.

Dick shifted to the armrest so Alfred could sit beside Jason and pull him into his arms. He fell into Alfred willingly.

“I’m sorry it took so long.” Alfred’s voice was thick.

Jason just pressed his face into Alfred shoulder and wrapped his arms around him tightly.

You hedged forward tentatively. Slowly. Unsure. Until you were in front of Jason and you lowered yourself to the floor to sit at his feet.

Cass slipped off the couch and leaned into you. Damian got up and snuck into Jason’s open side, latching on. Steph sprawled herself over his back and Tim moved closer to you, to press his head into Jason’s legs. Dick then slipped to the floor to curl over Tim, tugging Duke with him to join your mess of limbs, and they leaned into Jason and Alfred. You and Cass fell against them, pressing further into the pile of Bats supporting each other.

There was a shift and suddenly Bruce was there too. Sitting down on Alfred’s other side, stretching his long arms around to reach Jason (and Steph), joining the family, holding everyone together.

“I’m sorry, Jay-lad, I’m sorry too.”

Your head was next to Tim’s, pressing into Jason’s thigh, Cass pressed hers between your shoulder blades. You could feel, more than hear, Jason’s breath hitch again as he started sobbing anew, Bruce’s breath unsteady, Dick’s silent tears, everyone attached like one organism. You could feel, more than hear, everyone’s breath, everyone’s heartbeats all around you.

These people were so important to you. This was your family. And you’d do almost anything for them. You'd protect them as much as you were able. And if that included killing? So be it. You loved them, that was enough for you.

[ 9th february, 2025 • 9/20 day of productivity]

Today was productive so far, even though my period is here and making it hard to focus. The cramps were intense—I woke up at 7 AM with them, but I still managed to make breakfast, wash the dishes, and get straight into my French revision project.I started with Chapter One today. I still have to write the essay part, but I also began making digital notes—more like guides in Word, chapter by chapter. I think this method will help me organize everything better.I had a good nap, but my mind is already on tomorrow. I have P.E. class , and I really don’t want to play (it’s handball semester ಠಿ⁠_⁠ಠಿ) , and I know I won’t be up for it. Plus, I didn’t do "my everything shower" today since it’s the first days of my period, and I know from experience that showering just makes me feel worse.Tomorrow is also going to be a packed school day with no time to rest, which is stressing me out a little. But despite feeling weak, I still managed to do my stretch, study for 3 hours, and even start a new novel !

“Jack, you haven’t asked her, yet?!?” Urban exclaimed while looking over at him in disbelief.

Valentine’s Day was literally in less than a week and Jack hadn’t asked you yet. Instead, he was trying to think of a creative way to ask you and he didn’t have any ideas so far.

“I’m working on it!”

“She’s your girlfriend! What is there to work on?! She’s already dating your dumbass so it’s not like she’s going to say no!”

“Shut the hell up. It’s our first one so I want it to be special. Are you going to help me or not?”

“With WHAT?! Y/N, will you be my valentine?! There, SIMPLE!”

“You can be such an ass sometimes.”

“And you can be annoying as hell when it comes to all that lovey dovey shit with your girl. You always try to go out of your way to impress her and shit when in reality, she loves anything your goofy ass does.”

Just then you walked up to both of them as they were sitting on the bleachers outside during lunch and you were all smiles.

“OH, Y/N!!!! Jack has something he wants to ask you!”

“URBAN!”

“Sure, what is it babe?” You asked while sitting next to him and all Urban was doing was smiling.

“I….”

“Come on Jack, we rehearsed this just before she walked over here.” Urban said while nudging him.

“Okay, what are you two dumbasses going on and on about? And babe, why are you turning red?”

You noticed Jack was now more interested in his shoes and you took the opportunity to raise his head with your hand so he could look at you.

“Smush, what is going on? You’re making me nervous.”

“Well you always make me nervous. That’s nothing new.” Jack answered while pushing his glasses back up on his face.

“Are you going to tell me or am I going to have to pull it out of Urban?”

All Jack did was sigh before unzipping his backpack and reaching into it and pulling out a red and white build-a-bear.

“Is that for me?!”

“I’ve been carrying it around for two weeks trying to think of a creative way to ask you to be my valentine and I still haven’t come up with anything. Soooooo, Y/N, will you be my valentine?”

“I would be your valentine forever if it was left up to me, so yes, obviously.” You answered while throwing your arms around him and he eagerly hugged you back. 

“I like that idea. Oh, press her left hand.”

You did as Jack instructed you to do and soon you started to hear one of your favorite songs by Tamia, “Into You.” which you and Jack decided was “your song” for your relationship.

The song always seemed to be playing when you two were around each other so it definitely wasn’t a coincidence. 

“If this happens every year, I could definitely get used to it.”

Just then you heard commotion behind you and turned around to see Urban, Quiiso, Shloob, and Ace with Urban holding his phone up to record Jack asking you. 

“OW! DAMN IT URB! THAT WAS MY FOOT!”

“I TOLD YOUR ASS TO GET OUT THE WAY SO I COULD GET THE PERFECT ANGLE OF BOTH OF THEM!”

“So much for being discreet.”

“What the hell are you four doing?!” Jack exclaimed while looking down at them.

“We had to document you asking Y/N to be your valentine! This is the first one with you two as a couple after all.”

“And here I thought Jack was a simp, it’s Urban.”

“I’m a good best friend that’s what it is unlike yall dumbasses!”

“Well, I thought the gesture was cute, Urban.” You said while laughing and holding your bear tighter.

“Oh, and that was my idea to add the song.”

“HEY!”

“What?! Give me my credit where credit is due.”

“I love it anyway, thank you boo.” You said as you kissed Jack’s cheek and he immediately turned red.

“Yall are actually sickening and I love it at the same time.” Shloob said while opening his bag of chips.

“They’re getting married, I’m calling this shit.”

Present Day

It was less than 48 hours until Valentine’s Day and you were currently mean mugging your husband and he couldn’t figure out what you had such an attitude for. He was trying to tread lightly just in case the issue had to do with him.

“Baby, why do you keep looking at me like you want to kill me?” Jack asked while making sure he was across the room just in case you wanted to throw something.

“Jackman, it is February 12th.”

“Yes, I know.”

“YOU KNOW?!”

“Baby, yes I know! Did I forget something?”

“I should make you figure it out since it is so incredibly obvious.”

“Stink, I’m not following.” Jack said as he attempted to brush a few stray curls out of your face and you still kept the pout on your face. 

All you did was open a box of godiva chocolate and began eating without answering his question..

“Where did you get that?!”

“Doesn’t matter, all you need to know is that Clay knows the way to my heart and I suggest that you ask me to be your valentine before he beats you to it.”

“WHAT!?”

“Did I stutter?”

“HE BOUGHT YOU THAT?!”

“He sent me a text and asked me if there was anything I needed or wanted and I said chocolate and he came through unlike his big brother. I’m convinced you don’t love me anymore.”

“Wait a minute. You’re mad because I didn’t ask you to be my valentine?! And you better cut the shit right now talking about I don’t love you anymore. Loved you since I first laid eyes on you.”

“OBVIOUSLY! And bullshit, you didn’t tell me until we were seventeen.”

“Baby, come on. You know better than that.”

Jack slid you off of his lap and went into the kitchen as you continued to eat your chocolate that Dua not Clay bought for you, but Jack didn’t need to know that.

Jack then came back and placed three candy hearts on your stomach and you couldn’t do anything but smile.

“You are so fucking cheesy and I love it.”

“Baby Harlows, will you do me the honor of being my valentine along with mommy this year?”

“I think they said yes.”

“YOU THINK?! Why do you INSIST on stressing me out?!”

“So dramatic, smush of course they said yes.”

“Come next year, valentine’s day might look a little different with three more people for us to love, but keep in mind you were my first valentine and that's not going to change.”

Jack looked up from your stomach once he heard your sniffles.

“Babe, not again. You have always cried easily, but now that you’re pregnant, it’s even worse. You cried because I put on your pink fluffy socks as you were telling me thank you last night.”

“I CAN’T HELP IT! I JUST LOVE YOU SO MUCH!” You exclaimed as Jack was trying to calm you down.

“I love you too, baby girl. Now please stop crying before the babies think something is seriously wrong with you. Then when they get here they’ll be sending death glares to me thinking that it was my fault just like you were earlier.” 

Just then Urban came down the steps and saw the candy hearts sitting on your stomach and made his way over to you.

“Can I eat those? And why are you crying?”

“NO! And she’s crying because I asked her to be my valentine.” Jack said as he swatted Urban’s hand away as he looked at both of you and rolled his eyes.

“Why? They are literally there just sitting on her stomach. And aren’t you his valentine every damn year?”

“They’re for the babies! And so what?!”

“Okay?? And?? They can’t eat them.”

“Ew, Urby. You actually like candy hearts?” You asked as he sat next to you and started to pick them off one by one and pop them in his mouth.

“Stink, does that answer your question?” Jack asked as he rolled his eyes.

“Hey, who sent you this chocolate? I want some.” Urban started to reach over you to get to the box, but you quickly smacked his hand.

“OW!”

“Dua got them for me and no you can’t have them. Early Valentine’s Day gift. Never take food from a pregnant woman, you should know better.”

“WHAT?! I THOUGHT YOU SAID CLAY GOT THEM FOR YOU?”

“Oh, did I?”

“BABY!”
