An angst idea that I really love when it comes to Batman and Jason Todd is Bruce (and/or other people) separating the idea of Jason-the-boy-wonder and Jason-the-Red-Hood into two different people. Not in, like, an identity-reclaiming way on Jason's part, but in a hurtful, delusional way against Jason's wishes. Jason always having known himself as himself, but Bruce being unable to handle the idea of his son coming back "wrong", killing people, and coming to believe that this man, the Red Hood, must not really be his son.

An aside - here's a fic series rec if that's something you also like: Abraham Fails His Test by chucklesbuckles on Ao3. It's very good.

So I've got a fic idea I'm putting together for this premise:

Batman, the various Robins/Batgirls, perhaps even the Justice League, are fighting some sort of large-scale threat. In the course of this, Bruce does something to, presumably, earn the gratitude of one of DC's Greek gods. This god/goddess tells Bruce that in exchange, they will grant him a gift - a son for a son. (Let's say Bruce saved the life of one of their demigod children at the cost of injury to himself.) And so, after the battle is over, they snap their fingers and before the Justice League appears Jason. Jason as Robin, specifically, as he was before the bomb went off. Still gravely injured but not so much that he couldn't live with prompt medical care - the son that Bruce had lost.

Meanwhile, off to the side, stands the Red Hood, who still isn't really on speaking terms with his family but agreed to help out with the threat (secretly hoping to rebuild a few bridges he'd burned, as he's been doing for a few months at that point.)

Now, the god/goddess who does this isn't someone inherently untrustworthy, like Eris. This is a deity with a good(ish) reputation. Someone who could actually pull a miracle like that off with just a snap of their fingers. Maybe Zeus, Hades, Athena, Hera, Hestia, or Aphrodite. (It's a bit hard to pick Hera... because of her whole THING with demigods, or one of the virgin goddesses, if I go with the "saving a demigod son" idea, but they could be made to work.) Either way, someone with a bent towards justice, family, or love. Believable granters of the gift of returning a dead son to life. (I'm leaning towards Hades.)

(Note: this is the point at which I admit I know nearly nothing about DC's Greek gods other than what their Wikipedia articles includes, so I'm probably leaning hard on more Percy Jackson type depictions of the gods and what Wikipedia says about their actual depiction in ancient Greek myths. I feel no guilt in ignoring whatever DC comics says except for what I like. Maybe this is where I go with my Jason-Todd-son-of-Aphrodite-AU?)

So everyone looks at Robin!Jason, seemingly brought back from the dead by the god of the dead, and at Red Hood!Jason, murderer and breaker of his family's hearts, and goes, "oh, the Red Hood is an imposter! That makes sense, considering everything about him." Then someone arrests Red Hood for all those murders he committed (and also for impersonating Robin.)

Red Hood gets carted off to Arkham and Bruce gets his presumably-real Jason to the hospital, to be joyfully reunited with his father, older brother, and new younger siblings (although Tim may be older than him since he's about fifteen, and Cass is also older than him but is in Hong Kong, probably.)

Red Hood Jason knows he's the real deal, however. (At least, he thinks he is. Right? Holy identity crisis, Batman!) Shortly thereafter, he breaks out of Arkham and sneaks back to the manor to confront imposter Robin in the dead of night.

But imposter Robin seems to know everything Jason did when he died. And he acts just like Jason did when he was still a stupid fifteen year old. And he's just as horrified by the Red Hood as Jason always figured he-as-Robin would be if Jason ever got punted backwards in time (not an unreasonable confrontation to fear, Jason tells himself, considering the multiversal road trip bullshit he recently had with Donna and Kyle.) Jason is almost convinced.

And then imposter Robin tells Jason that, considering how Jason as the Red Hood has let his anger and hatred consume him, he has decided to forgive the Joker.

And that's BULLSHIT. Jason's identity crisis is over - he's 100% positive that Robin is an imposter. Because Jason, especially right after his beat down in Ethiopia, would NEVER forgive the Joker. Because the Joker is evil, and Jason knows that he can't forgive evil and live with himself.

But Jason has to leave or he'll get arrested again - and now that Batman doesn't think he's his son, he won't be pulling punches, especially if he catches him near his "baby". So Jason heads for the one person he knows will believe him: Talia, because of her involvement in Jason's real resurrection.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Bat clan are desperate to (re-)form their familial bonds with the REAL Jason Todd. But, while they don't know it, over time, it becomes clear that the new Jason isn't a gift. He's a punishment - a lesson - a haunting - for failing to show sufficient gratitude for the return of a lost son from the grave.

(Because of the BATARANG, Bruce, Hades let Jason go for reasons-to-be-revealed and you try to send him right back??)

Now for the actual au

Dick and Jason find each other while being chased by monsters when Dick is around 11 and Jason is 10

They don't expect to be rescued by one Bruce Wayne, who takes them in and sends them to Camp Half-Blood because he remembers how it felt, struggling to survive

The boys aren't claimed super fast, but Bruce has his suspicions considering the sheer power, and amount of monsters they attract

Plus water powers tend to be a dead giveaway Poseidon, everyone knows they're you're kids we're waiting on you

(They're claimed within 2 months of joining camp)

Camp is where Dick meets Wally, and Jason meets Roy and Connor

Jason and Connor bond over being children of one of the big three, and Connor mentions his younger brother Jon

(Lois keeps Jon home while Connor is at camp because she'd prefer he go to camp once he's older, which is understandable because he's 6)

Clark Kent is a regular human in this au with Paul Blofis energy for his two lovely sons

Now for the Hades trio

During all that, a 9 year old Cass and and 8 year old Duke have found each other.

And they have stolen a little baby 6 year old Damian who was also in danger of dying

(or he was before Titus the hell-hound took a particular liking to him, and subsequently to Cass and Duke and now won't let anyone near them)

(Hades may have helped them find each other behind the scenes, but he'd never admit that)

Bruce finds these the Hades trio when Cass is 11, Duke is 10, and Damian is 8

(Persephone may have played a role in helping the man find them, considering she noticed how he helped Dick and Jason)

He's honestly impressed three children of one of the big three have survived this long on their own

So he takes them in and while he was hesitant to send someone as young as Damian to camp, Cass and Duke refused to go anywhere without him

Plus having 5 children of the big three in one house makes you a giant target for monsters

So he didn't have much choice

Dick and Jason grew fond of their three younger siblings rather quickly

The fact Cass trusted them greatly helped in bonding the two groups

(If you got in Cass's good graces you were set, Duke and Damian trust her judgment more than anything)

The Hades trio were claimed pretty much the week they joined camp

The 5 all sit together for meals, you cannot separate them

Titus the hell-hound accompanies Damian everywhere (that he fits)

Stephanie Brown is the first gutsy kid to approach Damian and his hound

The other siblings are weary at first but the moment Dami attaches to her she becomes one of them

For the vampier au: how do they each get turned?

The year is 1000 BCE. Ra’s and Talia Al Ghul rule the Persian empires as two of the first vampires in existence, existing largely in secret. They make it their goal to turn as many people over to their side as possible, whether by battle or biting. Biologically, Damian was born a vampire and they utilize some arcane magic to make him appear as a child forever, because even back then people knew that children were far better at getting their way than adults. Honed as a weapon for literally millenia, Damian Al Ghul practically becomes a cryptid in his own right. Villagers shared stories of people who saw the child and never being the same—or worse, never returning. The Al Ghuls were responsible for the most well-known vampires in history, including the famous Count Dracula.

The year is 800 BCE. At 200 years old, Damian was still considered very young for a vampire. He is sent on a mission to turn to their side a young lady who was practically viewed as a goddess by other women, and who aspired to become one of the greatest poets of all time. Talia dropped Damian off on the island of Lesbos. Faster than lightning, the child warrior swooped down and bit the legendary Sappho. Now an immortal, Sappho dedicated her eternity of free time to her passion for writing, where she composed her famous Ode To Aphrodite. Eventually she got bored of Greece, so she changed her appearance and set off exploring the greater Asian continent.

The year is 1206. Genghis Khan had conquered much of the world. Under the Mongol empire, it was as common for women to serve in army as men. One of Khan’s most distinguished fighters came from the Manchuria region. She was a mercenary for the army, a lone wolf. And though she found thrill in battle, she was lonely. And, as fate may have it, so was Sappho. They met in a village where the army was stationed and forged a tight-knit partnership. They laughed together, they fought together. And the thought of being separated was unimaginable. So when Sappho revealed herself to be a vampire, the Mongol warrior jumped at the chance to become one too. And so she was transformed with consent, and together they roamed the world in search for adventure.

The year is 1775. The two girls had heard of this supposed New World and the colonies Britain established. They wanted to see it for themselves. Changing their names and appearances to something more Anglican, Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain boarded a ship set for what would become modern-day New Jersey. Immediately they found a stark lack of immortals there and they didn’t want to be the only ones, so they set off on a biting spree, turning men, women, children, and even a few farm animals (two dogs, a cat, a cow, and a turkey) without care. One of these victims was an elderly English nobleman named Alfred Pennyworth. Cassandra took the animals under her wing, while Stephanie felt bad for Alfred because he seemed to have nobody around. So the girls “adopted” Alfred as their grandfather so he wouldn’t be lonely either. 

The year is 1871. Haly’s Circus was the most popular traveling show during Europe’s Industrial Age. Disguised as mother and child laborers working behind the scenes, Damian and Talia were on the lookout for new potential soldiers. And who would make a more perfect killer than the swift, agile Flying Graysons? Talia tried persuading John and Mary nicely, using Damian’s adorable boyish face, and they did give in. At least, at first. But within a few months of John, Mary, and Richard being turned, the parents changed their mind. They wanted nothing to do with Ra’s Al Ghul’s agenda and threatened to expose the vampires to the world. Talia had no choice but to get rid of them. She paid a lower-level mortal criminal to rig the ropes and douse the trapezes in holy water, which would lead to the downfall of John and Mary. The press reported it as a tragic accident. Alfred, who was at the circus during his holiday when it happened, couldn’t help but notice the burn marks on their hands. He chalked it up to coincidence or a prior unrelated injury in the end

The year is 1920. All that the grieving Richard Grayson wanted was to get away from the ghost of his past. He traveled to America, settling in the subpar city of Gotham, New Jersey. As much as he wanted to drink his troubles away, it was just his luck that he arrived at the beginning of Prohibition. His apartment was near a speakeasy, though, so he frequented that. The underground bar itself was owned by mob boss Jason Todd, who was notorious for brandishing guns and picking drunken fights—and winning all of them. But his streak would end when he had one too many glasses of moonshine and challenged an unwilling Richard Grayson to a fistfight. “What, you gonna back out, ya little dick?” Jason taunted. The former Flying Grayson himself wasn’t in the most sober state ever, so after some convincing and people placing betting money on the table, they took up the challenge. It was the roughest fight that bar had ever seen, and in a final act of self-defense, Richard bit Jason. (Granted, it wasn’t in the neck, but a bite was a bite). Jason becoming vampire wasn’t the worst consequence. No, it the older one being stuck with a terrible nickname: Dick.

The year was 1965. One of Ra’s fortune tellers predicted an influx of young soldiers arriving in Vietnam before war was even declared, and Ra’s sent his grandson to a rural village in the country undercover to find more recruits as the League of Assassins’ influence was diminishing. The environment of thick, bushy jungles worked in Damian’s favor as he was able to hide and strike on French and U.S. soldiers. He even managed to turn all but two members of a New Jersey infantry. Later on, the government reported one of the drafted soldiers, Duke Thomas, as missing, but in reality the young man went into hiding with two other vampire soldiers on his squad. And it was a reasonable move—mass media was on the rise and the last thing anyone needed was vampires being exposed as real to the public. Not only that, but Duke displayed abilities that the other two didn’t have, likely attributed to the combined effects of vampire magic and chemical agents like Napalm used at the time, and neither General Grayson nor Lieutenant Todd knew what to make of it.

The year was 1999. A teenage Tim Drake was out on a late-night grocery run to get more supplies, because 2000 was in just a few months and everyone was preparing for the supposed end of the world. He made the grave mistake of taking a shortcut through Crime Alley in an effort to get home on time, and was bitten in the leg by a “homeless” kid who seemed to appear out of nowhere before scurrying off. He didn’t experience anything strange for the next few years. He got plenty of sunburns, but he burned easily even before the incident. He kept his bedroom dark and stayed awake all night, but so did a lot of teenagers during that grunge/post-punk era. Silver felt weird, which he brushed off as an allergy. He avoided churches but that was because religion was never his thing. He craved red meat and avoided garlic, but hey, people had their likes and dislikes. It wasn’t until about five years later, when Tim realized he hadn’t aged a day, that he considered doing some research. 

The year was 2019. Bruce Wayne was at one of his famous Wayne Enterprises gala on New Year’s when he met a stunningly beautiful woman named Talia. She slipped a little something into his drink when he wasn’t looking. Bruce couldn’t remember what happened after that, only waking up with a killer hangover and strange hickey on his neck. He had been Batman for a while now, and when he started experiencing unexplainable things he sought the help of the magician Zatanna, who found out that somebody turned him into a vampire. If he wasn’t brooding before, he definitely was now, and it didn’t help that the butler was a smartass. Alfred revealed to Bruce that he had been a vampire the whole time, looking over the Wayne family since Thomas’s father’s father, because the wealthy Waynes made easy targets for the supernatural. In an attempt to make Bruce feel less alone, Alfred invited Stephanie and Cassandra over for dinner (“Alfred, great to see you again! It’s been, like, a hundred years!”). It was over dinner that Bruce asked questions and the older vampires told their stories, and Alfred offhandedly mentioned something about Haly’s Circus that caught Bruce’s attention. Fresh burn marks from touching a trapeze? Something didn’t seem right. Though the case was over a century old, Bruce did some searching on the Batcomputer and found too many discrepancies in the Flying Grayson case for it to be just a regular accident. With Stephanie and Cassandra’s help, Bruce traced the parents’ deaths back to the League of Assassins. But one new questioned surfaced after all this: what happened to Richard? That question would be answered a few weeks later when Bruce dug up another cold case: a file about an MIA Vietnam War soldier from Gotham, Duke Thomas. He tracked down Duke’s whereabouts, and it turned out he was hiding from the League of Assassins with two other missing people from history: the circus performer Richard Grayson and mobster Jason Todd. Bruce offered him the best damn thing in their eyes: sanctuary. He took all three of them under his bat wing and they joined his immortal crusade against Gotham crime. Some time later, Talia introduced Damian to Bruce under the guise that Damian was Bruce’s son, citing the night she met Bruce at the party. Damian only agreed to Talia’s infiltration plan because he was sick of how Ra’s treated him, like an object rather than a being. So although the paternity test came out negative, Bruce still insisted that Damian was his son and kept him. As for Tim Drake? His story is pretty much the same: deducing Batman and Nightwing’s identities and demanding to join them—classic Timmers move

Batfam PJO AU

Look I love the Percy Jackson AU for the batfamily and I definitely feel like there isn’t enough about it, so here’s my two cents. I mean you already know that every Greek God or Goddess wants to fuck Bruce Wayne. 

Dick Grayson:

I always see Dick as either Aphrodite’s kid or Zeus’s. Aphrodite it’s pretty self explanatory besides the fact that Dick is hella hot, he’s also a charmer. Gets everyone in the room to like him. 

With Aphrodite Bruce met her at one of his many Galas. At first, she thought he would be one of her many forgotten mortal lovers. Just a quick night of passion to satisfy her own needs and she would be gone before the morning. But once she got close to him, and started to use her charm speak to enchant him to her bed, she noticed that beside his obvious charm and his handsome features, Aphrodite was most attracted to his desire. His desire to do good, his pure heart, his need to save everyone, his lust for heroism, his romance with his city. Those were the true traits that lead her to realize that she may be in love with him. That one promised night of passion, became quiet long walks along the Gotham harbour, or Sunday morning picnics. She didn’t find his ass or his abs that attractive (not saying they weren’t, they were quite a spectacle after all) no, it was his eyes. His bright blue eyes that became windows to his soul, his wants, his desires. So for her final stay, she decided that their child would have the exact same eyes. 

Aphrodite came bearing Dick Grayson with all pride and love, announcing him as one of her greatest creations, one of her many forms of desire. Bruce, without hesitation, took their son, and Aphrodite saw that same love for his city (maybe even more) reflected in his eyes, but it wasn’t about Gotham anymore.

With Zeus, Dick is all about flying, so it would make sense for him to be the literal son for the God of the sky. Not to mention, Dick is famous for his anger. So imagine lightning demi-god Dick Grayson getting angry. Even Zeus, who is rarely ever shaken, shivers when he feels thunder clap because of his son’s fury. 

Zeus met Bruce Wayne as batman. He was in disguise as a low tier hero, someone the justice league would soon forget ever existed. But he was curious to see the people who mortals say, rival the Gods themselves. That’s where he saw a regular mortal man, Bruce Wayne, standing in front of everyone, commanding them, leading them, with no use of powers, or threats, or anything. Just simply using his voice and his intelligence. A single mortal man could bring God like people to their knees, could get Gods to listen to him. Zeus knew that out of everyone he had witnessed in this era of the earth, this mortal man, deserved to bare his kin. 

Bruce was quite surprised when Zeus himself was standing infront of Wayne Manor, holding a small basket made of gold. Without a word, he passed the basket to Bruce and vanished into the air. Bruce picked up the small child, and was taken a back when he was the skies themselves in the baby’s eyes. Bruce knew this one would be destined for great things. 

Jason Todd: 

I mean as much I love the idea of Ares being Jason’s father (like Aphrodite!Dick Grayson and Ares!Jason duo is the best) I really like the idea of Jason’s father being Hades. And the idea that Jason’s wasn’t claimed until after his resurrection. 

Hades saw the batman in action in a particular bad night. When batman was more beast than human, more monster than man. Where batman would beat the rapists and harassers senseless for what they had done onto others. With blood on hands and sweat in his skin, this is when Hades knew Batman must be his. Although Hades was very much attracted to Bruce Wayne’s darkness, he made the mistake of setting their child in the streets of Gotham, hoping the batman would find him there. Instead, someone had stolen Jason, and Bruce did not find him until he was stealing tires from his bat-mobile. Bruce knew Jason was not mortal, as monsters and other entities would attack Jason rather than Bruce, but he couldn’t figure out what God or Goddess he belonged to, and no God or Goddess even bothered to claim him. Of course this used to upset Jason at times, that his other parent didn’t even care for him enough to even claim him, but Bruce would assure him that they were probably just busy at the moment, and that he would love him for the both of them. But when Jason got the idea that his birth mother may be Athena (the boy likes books and was quite intelligent so it made sense), he went to Ethiopia to confront her. Turns out it was just the joker playing tricks to lure the young demi-god away. 

Hades, was furious when we found out that his son was killed, murdered. He brought darkness and grief all throughout Gotham, fuelling the dark knights fury. When he found his son’s soul, he felt a sudden sympathy for the young boy and did the one thing he vowed never to do.  

Bruce finally found out Jason’s God parent, when his son stood there, back from the dead, commanding the shadows around him, his eyes green like greek fire, as Hades symbol shone bright and proud a top his head. By then it was too late, Hades influence had gotten to his son, Jason was death itself. And Bruce’s heart broke knowing he had truly lost his son to the darkness, but even the God of Death held mercy. 

Tim Drake: 

I like to think that Tim is Hephaestus’s son since Tim is pretty technologically advanced. Not to mention Tim is a bit of fixer, both in a physical and relationship sense (he did ‘fix’ Bruce after Jason died). 

Hephaestus actually met Bruce Wayne during a Wayne Tech event where they were announcing their newest creations and inventions to potential investors and current shareholders. Hephaestus, in disguise, was curious to see the technological advances mankind was currently involved with. Although every time he spoke to an individual they would either gawk at his rather unattractive face or were too nervous about saying anything offensive to say a single word. In the end, when Hephaestus was about to give up and damn all their useless creations, Bruce Wayne had personally approached him and began explaining what each and every invention did. Bruce apparently had seen his employees failed attempts at explaining what the machines intended use was and decided to take it upon himself to explain them to the curious God. 

Hephaestus was intrigued, and quite impressed that billionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne knew so much about his own inventions, and had a sort of fiery spark in his eyes when explaining what each thing did. Not to mention the man had the gall to approach him, even look past his rather unsightly looks. 

A few days later Bruce went down into the batcave, ready to continue working on the new blueprints for the batmobile, when he saw a small child wrapped in a single wash cloth, a make-shift metal toy clutched in the baby’s chubby hand. When Bruce picked up the child he just knew, he was the key to fixing everything wrong in his life. 

So these are my thoughts so far, gonna finish up the rest of the batkids and post them later on. Let me know what you all think!

Willis Todd is just unreasonably hot with a scruffy bad-boy biker vibe in this AU. Jay looks just like his daddy.

Gonna say he was like 20 and Sheila's on-again-off-again boytoy when he and Aphrodite met. He was with Aphrodite while he and Sheila were off-again, but when Aphrodite showed back up with baby Jay they were back together and Aphrodite broke them up for good because she just didn't like Sheila.

Willis was a stressed young single dad for a bit with Jay but he loved his baby too much to give him up. Aphrodite checked in and set him up with Catherine when Jay was about a year old. Catherine loved Jay at first sight too.

If I sit here and think for too long, I'm gonna end up putting together an outline for a "Jason Todd is a child of Aphrodite AU" and it's just gonna eat my brain.

Probably it would only be a stealth crossover with PJO. Jason's so unlucky is easy to imagine him getting jerked around by greek gods without any interaction from camp halfblood.

Camp Half-Blood…

The Bats, as they affectionately called themselves as a jokefor their human foster father’s name; Bruce Wayne; were the most eclectic, odd,and dangerous group of demigods that had banded together. Their family was oneforged in fires of hell, and tested on the streets as they had ran frommonsters before finding a human who adopted them and who let them be adysfunctional family. Bruce was a dangerous mortal though, capable of seeingthrough the Mist. But his sons were equally dangerous.

The eldest Bat was a son of Aphrodite, gifted with CharmsSpeaking, and the son of a circus acrobat. His name was Richard ‘Dick’ Grayson.The most charming of all the campers at Camp Half-Blood. He was also ridiculouslyhandsome, and had swarms of men and women swooning left and right for him. Dickwas also extremely lethal in combat, taking an unorthodox style of fighting andacrobatics.

The second Bat was the idiot son of Poseidon, gifted withattracting trouble, creating trouble, and finding trouble. He was a street kidwho had likely killed more monsters than all of the campers combined, his namewas Jason Todd. He was also the only idiot brave enough to ever tangle withRaven.

The third Bat was a son of Athena, one Dick had adopted, theson of Athena had found and dragged the son of Poseidon into the Bats. TimothyDrake, the smartest of all the Bats. Do not let the extreme ADHD and caffeinatedpersona fool you, the boy was smarter than all of the gods combined and had aknack for covering his brothers asses when trouble erupted.

The fourth Bat was a son of Apollo, he had unwittinglystumbled into Dick’s band of Bats before they had made it to the camp. He wasbright, charming, gifted in healing, and keeping his idiot brothers alive. DukeThomas was far too underappreciated, as he was the peace keeper of hisbrothers. And though he might be older than Tim, he was the younger brother ofthe Bat’s eclectic collection of misfits.

The fifth Bat, was the baby of the group, was a son of Ares,whom seemed to be the greatest nuisance and love of his brothers; Damian Wayne.The young little half blood was the most temperamental of his brothers, onlyrivaled with Jason on who was more dangerous. And he was also the surliest ofhis brothers.

Now, with those five brothers, there was always troublebrewing, but most of the trouble; outside of the family squabbles seemed to attachitself to him, and that might have been because he was a son of one of the BigThree.

At least this was his observation since he’d been like eightand on the streets running for his life before Dickhead found him. Timmy thoughhad been the one to drag him kicking and screaming into the Bat’s embrace, Dickhad insisted that he was the elder brother; Jason still called bullshit on thatas he was definitely the bigger brother!

No matter, since Jason had been like twelve he’d been fatedto die!

He had kind of gotten sick of the prophecies and stopped listening,as it was always about him or Raven having to go do some insanelystupid/dangerous thing. Jason proceeding to have Dick argue that he shouldn’tbe going on the quests. Tim recruiting Barbara Gordon (another daughter ofAthena) into creating an untraceable cellphone for communications. Duke givinghim an enchanted backpack he had helped make with Cass (a Hunter of Artemis),so he had enough meds and treatments to weigh him down to Tartus on hismissions. And Damian recruiting Harper Row (daughter of Hephaestus) to createhim the ultimate weapon. Jason had been a bit concerned, after all, it wasn’tlike Damian ever actually did anything nice for people, but the little guy wasclearly intent on doing this.

As to Jason usual partner in crime, it was his fellow BigThree child.

The dangerous daughter of Hades, Raven. Her mother had beena medicine woman in the Navajo tribe, and she was gifted in magic, and allpowers that Hades had, including the creepy; but awesome, ability of rising an undeadarmy to her command. Of all the campers Jason had ever met, she was the most beautifuland dangerous, and his normal partner in crime. Also outside of his family, shewas his best friend with their satyr, Roy Harper.

And that brought him to where he was right now as he stoodbehind Raven at the beach, she had her nose buried in a book. It was a rare daythat they weren’t on a death mission, or being attacked by monsters, and he wasgoing to be heading back to Gotham soon for the school year.

It was now or never!

He leapt for her, she threw up a shadow as twisted up to herfeet, her dagger out, and he pulled the ocean to slam into her as he rolledonto the ground. He grinned as stared at her.

“You Are Trouble!” she snapped.

“Oh please, you adore me and you know it!” he laughed.

“I was reading a perfectly fine book before you decided toattack me!” she countered.

“One would think that you’re a daughter of Athena’s withyour love of reading,” he mused standing to walk over to her.

“So?”

“I came to say later little bird,” he shoved his hands inhis pockets.

“That time already?” she sighed.

“Yup.”

“My aunt said she wanted me this year,” Raven looked tenseabout that.

“Well, if you land in Gotham, you know where to find me,” heoffered.

“I…”

“Rae, it’ll be fine,” he assured her as he slung an armaround his slender friend and guided her with him.

“Yes, because I so want to go to Gotham where you and yourhorde of miscreant brothers find, create and brew trouble,” she mused.

“You’ll miss me and you know it,” he decided.

“I might be seeing you soon, if not, stay in touch,” shesaid as they approached the hill.

“Later little bird!” he waved her off as he jogged after hisbrothers.

“Later Jay!” she waved, and he walked to where his familywas. It was odd having a family, but he was coming to like it.

Warnings & Friends…

Raven stretched out, lounging in the afternoon sun of herspot; it had long since been HER spot. Everyone knew it, which was why when shehad built her father’s Cabin, it had been just to the east of her spot so shecould keep her spot. Her father didn’t have many children, so she had a lovelycabin all to herself, and since the War, no one dared to come near it.

Well, no one besides her self-proclaimed brother; VictorStone, son of Hephaestus and the moron Jason Todd. Oh, and Jason’s satyr Roy Harper;but Roy was cool.

Jason’s shit ton of brothers, not so cool.

Raven didn’t mind though, as the war had happened, the Titanswere dead again until the cycle repeated itself, and she was laying in the sunwith a book. Life, as far as she could care, was perfect.

Well… it was quiet.

She sat up then and looked around at the surrounding forest.

It was too quiet…

She felt the shadows pulse at her control as her eyesscanned the forest, slowly she got to her feet and she twisted around as she keptthe shadow blade she had formed.

Now her eyes narrowed as she stared at her father’s wife.

“Persephone,” Raven said as she released the shadows andstared at the goddess then.

“I come in peace,” the blonde offered. Raven actuallybelieved her. Though most the wives of the gods would hate the off spring oftheir husbands, Persephone was decidedly neutral about it. She was never happyabout her husband straying, and made it a point to inflict that knowledge on him,but she never hated his children either. As far as Raven knew, Hades andPersephone were actually a successful marriage in the realm of the gods, andthey even saw a marriage councilor when Hades wandered. Raven knew that one onlybecause of her father accidentally slipping when he’d been showing her hispalace; whilst trying to convince her to let Jason dissolve in the River Styx.

“And what can I do for you?” Raven asked as she folded herhands over her book and stared at the woman.

“Nothing, I just came to check on my beloved’s daughter, andto warn her.”

“About what?”

“About Zeus’ children, they’re coming Raven, all of them.”

“Zeus doesn’t have children!” Raven protested; Cabin One wasvery empty.

“Mmm… sweet child,” she smiled. “I wish we had had children,I always wanted a daughter.” She murmured that to herself, smiled and Ravenfound herself hugged before the goddess disappeared which had Raven frowning.

“Weird…” she muttered.

The hairs on the back of her neck rose and she twistedaround as she slammed the shadows down from the wave of coming water.

“Dam you Jason get over here! you’re supposed to be inGotham!” she shouted as she tossed her book into her cabin and tore after him.

There was a yelp as her best friend took the head start.

Dick lounged lazily atop the Aphrodite Cabin, and he watchedhis idiot brother running from the daughter of Hades; again.

This was not an unusual occurrence, and had been very normalsince Jason and Raven had met.

Where it had taken Dick a year to even earn Jason’s trustenough to have the younger demigod call him brother, Raven had won his brotherover from the moment Jason had woken up in the medical cabin of this Camp.

Dick and his brothers had been in a bad spot, a Satyr; Roy, hadfound them, and was taking them here. The monsters had attacked, and honestly,Dick thought they were goners.

That’s when all of Jason’s powers manifested; ALL of them,and there was a hurricane hitting them, as Jason screamed and attacked. That’swhen Dick knew exactly who his little brother’s godly parent was, because beforethat, Dick was thinking Jason was like Dami and a son of Ares. He’d had a knackfor deciphering who his brothers’ godly parents were before they’d beenclaimed.

Anyways, Jason and Raven, instant connection. It used todrive Dick nuts, because not even a week of knowing each other and they were joined at the hip, then they weresent on that quest…

He had suspicions this was to see if they could be togetheror if they’d kill each other. Luckily they became inseparable.

“I got twenty on them being together by December, Garthstated then as he clambered up to the roof.

“I have fifty on September,” Wally announced appearing.

Garth was the first son of Triton, which had shockedeveryone, including Poseidon. And Wally was a son of Hermes, who had beengifted with speed.

“A hundred on August,” Dick decided confidently.

“No fair, you’re the son of Aphrodite, we don’t bet with youon love lives!” Garth snorted.

“Yeah, and what are you Bats doing here anyways, I thoughtDaddy Bat’s had you for the school year,” Wally snorted.

“Diana came to visit, Jason blew up the school.”

“Diana, wait, shit, the Amazon Queen!?”

“Yup, she and her Amazons are staying with B while they workon building a Half Blood school, for us, and since Jay blew up the last school…”

“You’re all expelled,” Wally and Garth deduced.

“Yup,” Dick admitted.

“Brightside, war’s over, so Jason’s not on that deathprophecy anymore,” Wally pointed out.

“Jason Todd You Fiend Get Back Here This Instant Or I Drop YouIn The Styx Again!” Raven shouted, and Dick saw his brother grinning in thewater as Raven stood on the dock.

“JASON!” Raven screamed when Jason grabbed her ankle andyanked her into the water with a splash.

“He’s either really suicidal or really stupid,” Garthdecided.

“I’m going with stupid, Bats are stupidly reckless,” Wallystated.

“This coming from you! Who ran Head First into the Titan!?”Dick sputtered.

“Seemed like a good idea at the time,” Wally defended.

“Where are the other Bats? It’s ungodly quiet,” Garthstated.

This had all three of them sitting up as Dick scanned forhis other brothers…

“Oh gods…”

“They wouldn’t!”

“They would.”

“Let’s go to the forest, plausible deniability,” Garthsuggested, and all three of them clambered off the roof as fast as they couldbefore Hell broke lose.

Haha thank you! I actually started writing this right after I posted that.

My plan for the imposter Robin is that the point of him IS actually to work as a vehicle for reconciliation between Bruce and Jason. But he's also a punishment for Bruce & Dick for failing to try to reconcile Jason when he was first resurrected - AND for Jason, for taking out his pain on his family & not being willing to reconcile either. Hades was serious when he said "a son for a son" - it's just that he's not resurrecting Jason because he doesn't need to. He's giving Bruce the opportunity to bring Jason back to the family... in the most painful way possible.

Jason is absolutely gutted that his family would prefer a younger, "untainted" version him, but he's not actually surprised. (A lot of the time, he ALSO wishes he could be that younger self.) But while the fam is going to be dealing with the Haunting of Wayne Manor, he's going to be off doing his best to figure out why Hades would do something like this and how to stop it. I have actually decided to incorporate my "Jason is a demigod son of Aphrodite" idea into this, so part of that is going to be him FINALLY figuring out who his bio mom is, why she left him, and why he was resurrected in the first place (which has a lot to do with Hades as well - and why he needs the leverage of the imposter!Robin to hold over the real!Jason.)

Bruce and Dick will be sick with guilt once they realize what's going on, don't worry. Imposter Robin will be bad and spooky enough at the end that they won't actually miss him - except that they do still miss and mourn that boy who died and wish they could have him back, but the Red Hood is all they're ever going to get. And he's a disappointment (who they recently threw in Arkham near his murderer). And now Jason knows it for certain too...

And Tim and Damian, who haven't ever really missed Jason as they've known him, get to deal with the fact that they have a lot of false assumptions about how Jason was as Robin (not all their own fault), but now know that there's a lot that they really liked about him. (At least until he turned out to be a terrible ghost dead-set on hurting them.) And all of that still exists, presumable, in real!Jason - except that he's been hurt and traumatized and also hates them, they think. And the real Jason wasn't actually involved with any of their interactions with the imposter, so their relationship with him is weirdly lopsided in both directions.

It's gonna be a rough reconciliation.

An angst idea that I really love when it comes to Batman and Jason Todd is Bruce (and/or other people) separating the idea of Jason-the-boy-wonder and Jason-the-Red-Hood into two different people. Not in, like, an identity-reclaiming way on Jason's part, but in a hurtful, delusional way against Jason's wishes. Jason always having known himself as himself, but Bruce being unable to handle the idea of his son coming back "wrong", killing people, and coming to believe that this man, the Red Hood, must not really be his son.

An aside - here's a fic series rec if that's something you also like: Abraham Fails His Test by chucklesbuckles on Ao3. It's very good.

So I've got a fic idea I'm putting together for this premise:

Batman, the various Robins/Batgirls, perhaps even the Justice League, are fighting some sort of large-scale threat. In the course of this, Bruce does something to, presumably, earn the gratitude of one of DC's Greek gods. This god/goddess tells Bruce that in exchange, they will grant him a gift - a son for a son. (Let's say Bruce saved the life of one of their demigod children at the cost of injury to himself.) And so, after the battle is over, they snap their fingers and before the Justice League appears Jason. Jason as Robin, specifically, as he was before the bomb went off. Still gravely injured but not so much that he couldn't live with prompt medical care - the son that Bruce had lost.

Meanwhile, off to the side, stands the Red Hood, who still isn't really on speaking terms with his family but agreed to help out with the threat (secretly hoping to rebuild a few bridges he'd burned, as he's been doing for a few months at that point.)

Now, the god/goddess who does this isn't someone inherently untrustworthy, like Eris. This is a deity with a good(ish) reputation. Someone who could actually pull a miracle like that off with just a snap of their fingers. Maybe Zeus, Hades, Athena, Hera, Hestia, or Aphrodite. (It's a bit hard to pick Hera... because of her whole THING with demigods, or one of the virgin goddesses, if I go with the "saving a demigod son" idea, but they could be made to work.) Either way, someone with a bent towards justice, family, or love. Believable granters of the gift of returning a dead son to life. (I'm leaning towards Hades.)

(Note: this is the point at which I admit I know nearly nothing about DC's Greek gods other than what their Wikipedia articles includes, so I'm probably leaning hard on more Percy Jackson type depictions of the gods and what Wikipedia says about their actual depiction in ancient Greek myths. I feel no guilt in ignoring whatever DC comics says except for what I like. Maybe this is where I go with my Jason-Todd-son-of-Aphrodite-AU?)

So everyone looks at Robin!Jason, seemingly brought back from the dead by the god of the dead, and at Red Hood!Jason, murderer and breaker of his family's hearts, and goes, "oh, the Red Hood is an imposter! That makes sense, considering everything about him." Then someone arrests Red Hood for all those murders he committed (and also for impersonating Robin.)

Red Hood gets carted off to Arkham and Bruce gets his presumably-real Jason to the hospital, to be joyfully reunited with his father, older brother, and new younger siblings (although Tim may be older than him since he's about fifteen, and Cass is also older than him but is in Hong Kong, probably.)

Red Hood Jason knows he's the real deal, however. (At least, he thinks he is. Right? Holy identity crisis, Batman!) Shortly thereafter, he breaks out of Arkham and sneaks back to the manor to confront imposter Robin in the dead of night.

But imposter Robin seems to know everything Jason did when he died. And he acts just like Jason did when he was still a stupid fifteen year old. And he's just as horrified by the Red Hood as Jason always figured he-as-Robin would be if Jason ever got punted backwards in time (not an unreasonable confrontation to fear, Jason tells himself, considering the multiversal road trip bullshit he recently had with Donna and Kyle.) Jason is almost convinced.

And then imposter Robin tells Jason that, considering how Jason as the Red Hood has let his anger and hatred consume him, he has decided to forgive the Joker.

And that's BULLSHIT. Jason's identity crisis is over - he's 100% positive that Robin is an imposter. Because Jason, especially right after his beat down in Ethiopia, would NEVER forgive the Joker. Because the Joker is evil, and Jason knows that he can't forgive evil and live with himself.

But Jason has to leave or he'll get arrested again - and now that Batman doesn't think he's his son, he won't be pulling punches, especially if he catches him near his "baby". So Jason heads for the one person he knows will believe him: Talia, because of her involvement in Jason's real resurrection.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Bat clan are desperate to (re-)form their familial bonds with the REAL Jason Todd. But, while they don't know it, over time, it becomes clear that the new Jason isn't a gift. He's a punishment - a lesson - a haunting - for failing to show sufficient gratitude for the return of a lost son from the grave.

(Because of the BATARANG, Bruce, Hades let Jason go for reasons-to-be-revealed and you try to send him right back??)
