a silly take on day 4 of @bucktommypositivityweek (hobbies and dates)
“— and don’t forget to feed our son today! If we’re lucky, he should be active today or tomorrow,” Buck says excitedly into the phone. “If it gurgles and smells a little funky- and continues that way, we’ll have succeeded in keeping it alive,” he pumps a fist in the air. “He’s so *needy but well- worth it. Ha, get it?”
He holds a finger up in a ‘give me a minute’ gesture to Hen, Chim, and Eddie, who are currently looking at him like he’s grown two heads. “Make sure to give him my love, okay? Yes, he can sense it! M’kay, love you too, I’ll see you at home later.” He says before hanging up his call with Tommy.
“Is there something you want to tell us, Buckaroo?” Hen inquires with her signature raised eyebrow.
“Uh, no? Oh sorry, did you want to say hi to Tommy?”
“She’s talking about the part where you were telling him to feed your son, Buck.” Chim huffs with a matching raised brow.
“Oh, well yeah, I don’t want him to die after we just decided to give it a try,” Buck laughs.
Eddie turns to the other two who are now looking at him suspiciously, and shakes his head incredulously. “Hey, I know nothing about this! Buck, I think you’re missing some key pieces of information. Son??”
Buck crosses his arms, a little annoyed now. “What’s not clicking guys? Come on, now!”
“Oh my god,” Chim finally throws his hand up in exasperation. “When did you get a kid?? We didn’t even know you and Tommy were there yet—Oh no, does Maddie know? You know I can’t keep secrets! He cries. “Wait… you didn’t like, steal a kid did you?”
“What?!”
“Well, did you?” Hen shrugs skeptically. “You two did just have a few days off…”
“I can’t believe you guys! No, we didn’t steal one, nor do we have a kid. I don’t know where you’re getting this.”
“What was all that ‘feed him’ and ‘he should be active’ and ‘give him my love’ and keeping him alive about then?” She asks.
“Yeah! And the bit about the gurgling and smelling funky? That’s what babies do. Trust me, after Jee, I’m very well acquainted with all that.” Chim pipes up.
And Buck? Buck doubles over in laughter. He howls, shoulders shaking and tears spring up at the corners of his eyes. He wipes them with his hand when he rights himself. “Oh, oh my god that was great. Okay, so no, we don’t have a child, not a human one, at least. We’re not quite there yet, no. One day, though,” he smiles at the thought.
“See what happens when you eavesdrop on people’s conversations?” He sasses. “If you must know, I was talking about Breadley.”
“Come again?”
“Breadley Uppercrust.” He grins proudly.
“Yeah, that doesn’t make things any clearer, Buck!” Eddie complains, swatting his shoulder. “Who the hell is that?”
Buck makes sure they’re all looking at him, as he gives them the biggest shit-eating smirk. “Oh, why he’s our sourdough starter, of course.”
They all groan and boo him loudly, before walking away.
“What? We recently got into baking, guys!” He calls out to their retreating backs. “I’m feeling very un-loafed right now. I’m telling Tommy you all are being mean to me.”
Chim flips him the bird.
“Fine, but see if we give any of you a jar when we get started on Doughlene!”
*knead-y

You mentioned Ultra Magnus trying to cope with the world of One Piece and the Strawhat Pirates and I. Am. Here. For. It.
UM is a very ernest stressed out lawful good character. and the Strawhats are a chaotic good force. More Chaos than all the Wreckers and the Lost Light put together.
So in honor of that post If you don't mind me asking for two requests in one request box open run I'd like to request a One Piece/Lost Lighters crossover.
The Strawhats are helping The Lost Light crew because Luffy and Rodimus vibe. Roddy has a grand fleet flag and Luffy has a Rodimus star.
Either, Ultra Magnus/Minimus Ambus in a lull in the action asks Robin why she's a Strawhat Pirate. She's the only sane one here.
Or, if your in the mood for something lighter, Franky and Brainstorm Share The Brain-cell^TM while Usop and Perceptor attempt damage control.
YOU UNDERSTAND. YOU GET IT. I will be happy to write this!! I’m sorry it took me so long, I’ve been going through a rough patch when it comes to motivation.
The lost light characters may be a bit ooc because I’ve been having a hard time gauging their personalities. A lot of what I have for them in my head is from other fanfictions.
Also, this is just the start of the story, it’s just how they meet. I’ve yet to write specific interactions between characters, but I wholeheartedly plan to write more!
A little side note for clarification on One Piece in case anyone needs it:
- This takes place sometime after Jinbei gets on the ship
- I watch the dub so I’m going to use all of the names and such they use there (ex. Black foot Sanji -> Black leg Sanji)
- Sanji and Brook will be normal to women. I just don’t want to write them being weird.
Without further ado, I present…
Ten Idiots Meet A Ship Full Of Other Significantly Bigger Idiots
Synopsis:
After an experiment gone bad on the Lost Light (again), a portal is temporarily opened up to another dimension. Before it could be closed, however, a group of strange individuals manage to slip through.
After a long day at sea, The Strawhats always look forward to a first-class home cooked meal by Sanji himself. It was a beautiful evening- the crew opted to stay out on the deck of the Sunny to watch the sunset.
“SANJI! I’M HUNGRY! FOOD! NOW!” Not that much peace could be had with a captain like Luffy.
“I’m coming! Not every cook can whip up something like this every night you know. I swear, you guys eat more than a whole island every day.”
“Hey, that’s just Luffy. Don’t include the rest of us in this!” Nami shouted from the stairs leading to where the rest of the crew sat.
“I’M YOUR CAPTAIN AND I SAY FEED ME! MEAT! MEAT! MEAT!” Luffy pumped his arms as he chanted, sticking his tongue out as he watched Sanji cart out a giant platter of cartoonishly large meat.
“Smells as delicious as ever, Sanji.” Brook commented.
“Thank you, Brook. At least someone appreciates my food around here.” He glared at his captain, who was completely oblivious to everything else around him and solely focused on his food. Everyone else chatted away. Laughing, eating, looking up at the beautiful swirling vortex that had just appeared in the sky.
Wait.
Luffy had to stretch his arms up as his food began to be sucked into the portal above them, but it was in vain as he began to float too. The Sunny creaked as gravity shifted around them, everything but the ship itself beginning a startling ascent upwards.
“MY MEAT! NAMI, WHAT IS HAPPENING?”
“How should I know?!” She clung to an uprooting tangerine tree, “This is NOT normal! I haven’t read anything about whatever this is!”
“Everybody hang on to something!” Jinbei ordered, staring to float himself. Brook didn’t seem to get the message, as he was the first to loose his grip.
“SOMEBODYHELPMEIMBEINGPULLEDIN—”vwoop! And then he was gone.
“BROOK!” Luffy, having already eaten everything on his plate, launched himself into the portal.
“Damnit Luffy!” Zoro did the same soon after.
“What? Are we seriously going in that thing?” Chopper squealed, Usopp and Nami seemed to agree.
“Maybe we’ll all be immediately killed once we enter. It would be a painless death at least.” Robin said calmly, affixing herself to the ground with her devil fruit powers.
“YOU ARE NOT HELPING!” Usopp, Nami, and Chopper all screamed in unison.
“I suppose this is our next adventure!” Jinbei leapt through the portal. Sanji sighed and followed after him.
“Well, Sunny’s too big to go through that thing, so I guess we’re goin’ in without her.” Franky detached himself from the mast.
“Okay everyone, come on.” Robin peeled Usopp, Nami, and Chopper from their death grips on the ship and took all of them with her as she joined the rest of the crew.
“ROBIN WHY-“ Vwoop! And just like that, the Thousand Sunny was left empty.
————————————
Brainstorm was in big trouble. And possibly the entire Lost Light. And maybe the universe. The good news is his portal machine worked! The bad news is it was now pulling in random things from a random space in the multiverse. This would be a great opportunity to study it, unfortunately the stability of the thing was questionable. That is to say the portal was currently beginning to implode.
“Brainstorm, what are you doing!?” Preceptor skidded into the room right as he heard the snapping and crackling of something that probably shouldn’t be making that sound.
“Oh, nothing. It’s fine! It’s fine. I just need to- oh that’s not good. Actually do you mind helping me shut this down before it destroys the entire ship?”
“You’re going to be the death of all of us-” right as he began to walk toward the vortex, a screaming clatter of something came speeding out of it. On closer inspection, it seemed to be the corpse of a human.
“Oh, well, that’s new.” Brainstorm oh so helpfully commented. Just after another being came from the portal, also screaming but not quite as dead. Another followed, this one with a complete and utter look of annoyance on his face.
“What in the- Brainstorm, what did you do?” Ratchet entered, as did Ultra Magnus.
Soon there was an array of things entering the room. Aside from the array of random objects, there was a large blue organic followed by an another human wearing a black suit, then large possibly techno organic. Four other small people shot out shortly after.
“CLOSE IT! CLOSE IT NOW!” Ratchet ordered.
“Oh why didn’t I think of that- oh wait, I did, and I COULD USE SOME HELP!” Together they pulled on a comically large mad scientist like lever affixed to the portals control panel. As quick as it had arrived the portal was gone, though what- or who- it had just pulled in were gaining their bearings.
“Hahahaha! That was fun!” One of the humans, one wearing a yellow hat with a red line across it, put his hand on his head and looked around. It took him a second to notice, but when he finally realized where he was the man yelled, “WOAH! Cool! This place is huge!”
“It seems to be some sort of… metal building. A giant workstation perhaps.” The blue man said thoughtfully.
“Well I say we get out of here! I don’t want to be around when we find out why this place needs to be so big!” A long-nosed human whisper shouted.
“What, like those freaky statues?” The very annoyed man gestured at Brainstorm, Ultra Magnus, Ratchet, and Preceptor, who were all standing completely still. That is, until Rodimus showed up.
“Brainstorm, I heard yelling, is there a fight? Without me?” He strolled in casually, not looking at the floor, and instead focusing on his crew who were all staring at him. “What? What did I do?”
“That. Is. AWESOME!” Something from the floor shot up at Rodimus’s face. “Are you a robot? Can you shoot lasers? Do you eat metal?!” Somehow, someway, there was an ecstatic human right in front of his optics.
“Luffy! Get down from there!”
“Woah. So, care to explain? Anyone?”
“We are not robots, we are Cybertronian.” Ultra Magnus automatically stated.
“Cool!” ‘Luffy’, as his friend called him, somehow managed to launch himself on top of Rodimus’s helm. “Is there any food here?”
“Luffy! Damnit-” Another of the humans, the one in the suit, jumped. Accept when one would normally begin to succumb to gravity and fall back down, he took another step in the air and kept going. “You are so reckless!” The man tackled Luffy off Rodimus and they both began to plummet down to the ground- a height deadly to something so small.
“Sanji, let me down! I want to talk to the robot!”
“How about you shut up and come up with a plan before you get us all killed!” The moment they jumped off, Ratchet was already in motion. He was able to dive behind Rodimus to catch the two, but as he slid on the ground to save them ‘Sanji’ jumped off the air again and landed perfectly safe.
“I… I can’t even begin to explain this.” He admitted in a completely defeated tone, now chassis down on the floor.
“Do they all move?” A small voice whispered from the group still standing where the portal once was.
“I hope not.” Another replied.
“Wow. I wasn’t expecting that.” Brainstorm said calmly.
“I don’t think anyone could have predicted this.” Ultra Magnus put his servo on his helm. The two that had just survived a deadly landing like it was nothing walked back to their group- one much more unhappy than the other.
“Sorry about him. He does this a lot.” The annoyed green haired man glared at both of them.
“Oh, like you’re any better moss head.”
“Oh yeah? At least I didn’t jump in the face of a giant robot!”
“Yeah, cause you’d get lost on the way there!”
“You take that back-“
“STOP IT!” Half of the new arrivals shouted at the same time. One orange haired girl stepped up to comfort the bickering duo.
“This is not the time to argue! We’re kind of… we- look!” She gestured at, well, everything. Everyone else seemed to silently agree.
“Greetings visitors from another world! Welcome aboard the Lost Light!” Brainstorm announced with a flashy arm movement.
“Hey, I’m the captain, I get to welcome people into the ship!”
“You’re a captain?! Is this a pirate ship? Are you giant robot pirates?!” Luffy shouted in awe, though still in the arms of Sanji, who promptly dropped him.
“He said he was ‘Cybertronian’ bro. Not a robot.” The probably techno organic chastised.
“Psh, whatever.” Luffy got himself to his feet.
“We are not pirates.” Ultra Magnus said very sternly. “We are on a perfectly legal exploratory expedition.”
“Oh, bummer.” He glanced around once again. Apparently deciding now was a good time, he introduced himself. “My name is Monkey D. Luffy and I’m gonna be King of the Pirates!” Luffy smiled brightly and giggled, either ignoring or disregarding his friends facepalms.
“Well, I’d say this was a great success!” Brainstorm cheered to himself. “Who knew that was possible! I really am a genius.”
“And who are you?” ‘Moss head’ sneered at him. “Who are any of you? This is weird.”
“Well, if I’m allowed to introduce my own ship this time, my name is Rodimus Prime, captain of the Lost Light!”
“Hang on, this is your ship? How did you build something like this, it looks like it’s straight outta Vegapunk’s lab! What part of the world are we in anyway?” The blue hair techno organic asked, putting his oversized hand on his strangely shaped chin.
“Space, my friend. We’re in space. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if anything living would make it through that portal. Looks like it’s got about a 9 out of 10 survival rate which is better than most multidimensional portals I’ve seen. That is to say I’ve never seen one before, because I built the first one. Just now. No need to congratulate me.” Ignoring Brainstorm’s blatant narcissism, the of new arrivals looked absolutely flabbergasted by this information.
“We’re in space? Like, space space? Outer space?” Luffy asked with eyes wider than any moon, a big bright burning ball of excitement building in his chest.
“I assume you’ve never been off your planet before?” Perceptor asked. Luffy didn’t respond this time. He looked like he was about to burst with excitement, though his crew mates didn’t seem to pay much mind. One or two of them shook their heads in response to the question. “Well, Brainstorm, care to explain what you’ve done here?”
“What I’ve done- well, if you have the mental capacity to understand- I can give you a basic rundown. I’ve designed this portal to reach into alternate dimensions, which have hardly been confirmed to exist other than the dead universe. I’ve been worked steadily on it for a while now, and today I tested it out. It brought these ten organics here as well as some other junk.”
“Brainstorm.”
“Yes?”
“You mean to tell me, you turned on an untested and extremely dangerous machine that could obliterate our entire existence within nanokliks for no reason other than bragging rights? And when it miraculously did work, you pulled in ten random people from an unknown possibly incredibly dangerous world that could have also imploded our entire existence?”
“Yes that about sums it up.” Perceptor’s optic twitched, but as it seemed time was moving a bit too fast for him to start lecturing. The corpse on the floor began to move, slowly at first, and then in a sharp practiced motion it popped up on its feet.
“Yohohoho! I think I passed out for a second there!” The skeleton looked around. “Oh. I definitely passed out. No bones about it!” The apparently not corse laughed to himself.
“Cool! I didn’t think those human stories about corpses coming back to life were real!” Rodimus said with a childlike playfulness.
“They’re not.” Ultra Magnus argued bluntly.
“Oh, I am a skeleton. It’s a long story. Say, Luffy, what is going on?”
“We got sucked through a portal and now we’re talking to giant robot guys.”
“Oh okay.” The skeleton nodded, and then quickly scurried to where three of the other humans (and animal thing?) were huddled.
“Well, remind me to change that to a 10 out of 10 survival rate!”
“I feel like introductions are in order here…” Perceptor stated, “I’ll go first. My name is Perceptor. I’m a scientist. Now, you.” He gestured at Brainstorm.
“Well, if you insist. I am Brainstrom. Genius inventor of the machine that brought you all here.”
“I am the duly enfor- ah, I mean Ultra Magnus. I try to keep the peace around here.”
“You know me, I’m Rodimus.” He nudged Ratchet. “It’s your turn, doc.”
“Fine. I’m Ratchet. Retired head medical officer.“
“Cool names!” Luffy, having sprung back up, was jumping up and down. “This is my crew, the Strawhat Pirates!”
“Roronoa Zoro. Soon to be greatest swordsman and second hand man.” ‘Moss head’ introduced himself. The orange hair girl stepped out of the group.
“I’m Nami, the navigator.” The long nose man shakily emerged after her.
“I am commander Usopp! Best sniper in the world! I’m also the leader of one thousa-“
“Don’t even start.” The suit wearing man stepped up. “Sanji. I’m the crew’s chef.” The animal like thing approached from behind another crew member.
“Um, my name’s Chopper. I’m the doctor.” He tapped his hooves together nervously. A woman, one who hasn’t said much until now, patted the hat on his head in a compassionate manner.
“I’m Nico Robin, an archeologist.” She smiled sweetly and quickly got out of the way of the blue haired inhuman human man rushing to the front.
“Name’s Franky!” He struck a strange pose. “A SUPER good shipwright!” The skeleton stepped up beside him and did a short bow.
“My name is Brook. I am lucky to be the musician of this crew. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” When he stood up the large blue man stood beside him.
“I am Jinbe, the helmsman. It is a pleasure to meet you as well.” He bowed deeply.
“Now that we did that, do you guys have any food?” Luffy asked immediately and without hesitation.
The fifteen of them stood in Brainstorm’s mildly disfigured lab space, each with very different thoughts running through their heads. A new world, a new people, things most on the Lost Light never even imagined possible. From then on, the world got a little more chaotic.

Happy STS, Sleepy!
I admit to being somewhat overwhelmed by the number of OCs you create, and I need a bit of an intro. Who would you say are your flagship OCs?
I think I have three, and they're all guys. I'll give honorable mentions, though, because yeah, I have so many.
R, from Youth Story.
Roland Everett Blakesley is seventeen and a dramatic, flirtatious, extrovert with a vague hero complex. he's a middle child, with light orange-brown hair. he's a tall bean, and a lean bean to boot. R doesn't like his name so that's why he goes by the dumb substitution of a single letter. Youth Story is no plot, just vibes, and the intersection of ten different character arcs. here's R's:
he starts the story by having a rivalry/mortal enemyship with Mark, the - at the time - newest member of the friend group. Mark didn't give R enough attention, so R decided to hate him, and because they both share a single brain cell where the other is concerned, decided to use each other as their personal emotional punching bags - and literal punching bags - and hate each other. R's arc is about recognizing how his actions affect others, and how you can't justify hurting someone just because they allow it, and how self-destruction is no substitution for emotional maturity. he also really wants to be the best big brother to Cal, but he's kind of a perfectionist about it, so if he's failing he'll just fail harder, but his friends being sad about this turns him around. he and Mark make up, and have a very awkward acquaintanceship that eventually becomes a genuine, caring friendship by the place where we leave off.
other notable features:
R is a generous sort, willing to give up his time or energy to help his friends out. he'll complain because he enjoys the dramatics of it, but he really doesn't mind. he's also very physically affectionate, and likes to hold hands or droop himself over somebody's shoulders or participate in cuddle piles. R tends to phrase his sentences like he's acting in a play, and will flirt with anybody, not that he means it. he just constantly sounds like he's flirting plus, he's found that flirtation can be a very useful tool in public. R's favorite and signature color is red, and he wears it a lot, along with a lot of patterned button downs and sweaters. his hair is wavy and nearly reaches his shoulders, and sometimes he pulls it back in a bun. like all the Youth Story kids, he has a superpower! it's projected thermography. this comes in handy because he has a terrible memory.
and that's R! a disaster boi. oh and he's English.
next up is Nyks, also from Youth Story.
Nykolas Argyros is twenty, but he's missing the last four years of his memory, so he feels and acts like he's sixteen. he's got a bit of a baby face, so that adds to the effect. he's got dark brown curls and the sweetest smile. Nyks, despite being the oldest of the group, is often treated like the baby, because he's got this childlike innocence and an angelic personality. you'll love him. everybody does. he's also tall and lean, and quite pale, but more so because of his superpower: phasing. he got struck by lightning while phasing, which caused the memory loss, and he has not great control of his powers now. he loses energy rapidly, especially if he's cold, so he's always attached to one of the kids to share their energy. this doesn't drain them, because I said so. he's the cuddliest bean of the bunch and we have lots of those here.
Nyks' arc is slowly regaining some of his memories, but mostly just gaining a better sense of self. he's so kind and gentle and wants everybody to be happy and forgoes his own happiness as a result. he doesn't really stand up for himself and gets inadvertently bullied by his friends without that being the intention. he's also lowkey the group therapist and gradually learns to set boundaries and not be responsible for anybody else's change in behavior or emotional growth.
other notable features:
since he's so well-loved and such a sweetheart, he's often the reason anybody else in the group makes compromises or backs down from a stance. R and Mark try to get along for Nyks' sake and Nyks is like "or, and here's a thought, you could do it for yourselves and leave me out of it." Irina and Evie don't shout at each other for no reason, Jae tries to be more social, Daniel tones down his enthusiasm. but as time goes on, they learn to do these things for themselves instead of making Nyks the catalyst for all growth. it's wearying to everybody's angel all the time. Nyks just wants to be a person. he really likes desserts, and wearing super soft clothes. his signature color is aqua, but he wears pretty much any other pastel. he also steals people's clothes, especially scarves or hats or jackets.
and that's Nyks! angel boi. oh, and he's Greek.
our final contestant is Jet, from City Story.
Jet is 22, with tanned skin and black hair. kinda has resting grumpy face until he has reasons to smile later on. he works at a motorcycle garage and gets into fights on the street. he's angry. at the world, I guess. anger is an easy emotion and he's very good at it. he runs on adrenaline and spite and consequently is so very tired. he's doing nothing with his life until a) his twin brother Copper shows up after six years of separation with no contact, and b) this girl he met one (1) time at the garage becomes inextricably entwined with his life and suddenly he has a purpose again.
to punch people still, but for a reason this time. to keep her safe.
Rune is also a popular OC, I'll talk about her a little more after. Jet is being forced - by Copper - to develop his unused, stunted emotions, and it turns out he's actually pretty good at them, even the positive ones he used to think he couldn't afford, and is trying to figure out the mystery of Rune while determining that even if he never knows her whole story, he still wants to protect her. 'cause he's a protector, always has been, and likes having a reason to feel emotions or be angry or get into fights instead of being so aimless and tired.
Jet's signature colors are black, red, and grey, but his favorite is dark teal. he is secretly extremely soft for his friends, after he admits that's what they are. Yarrow has to yell at him a few times for it to sink in, but he gets there eventually. and they come along and devote themselves to Rune's cause because they want to, apparently. Jet is so grateful to have these people, and so scared to lose them. but those sorts of emotions are strange and unfamiliar, so he'll stick with what he's good at while it serves him.
and that's Jet! angry boi. he's...basically Thai, but both the city in City Story and the part of the world it's in is never mentioned, and I don't know if I ever will, but when I initially wrote this story as a fanfic, it was for a Thai series, so. we're probably still in Thailand despite the only thing remaining from that fic is that there are twins, one angry, one not.
honorable mentions!
Rune, from City Story. it's told from Jet's pov only, so all we know about Rune is whatever she chooses to tell Jet, and it's that she's been through the wringer and deserves to have people standing up for her and helping her, despite how much she hates to ask for or accept that. she's fierce and independent and clinging to her secrets for reasons Jet can't parse through yet. he'll wait.
Grimes, from Summon Story. she's a twice possessed skeleton who used to be a summoner seeking immortality, 'cause of course there's one of those. they help out Shae when she's starting out as a summoner and searching for her very long lost half-sister. Grimes may be a positive force, may not be, but she's very cool, so whatever.
I don't know exactly who counts, because I can think of specific friends who like specific ocs, but I don't know if they're popular overall.
all the City Story kids are beloved because a bunch of people are reading the draft zero (it's not finished though, oop.) so that's:
Yarrow - 20, street artist and part-time art studen and enthusiastic optimist. simultaneously extremely perceptive and oddly naïve. Hawk - 23, accounting graduate stuck in a depression slump because nobody will investigate the decidedly sus deaths of his parents Moss - 29, the owner of the garage and patron of a lot of low-income families in the area and by that I mean he collections donations gathered through not really legal means and distributes them to the families. Rune helps out with this, though not with the illegal part. if you read the draft there's a non-canon part where she does. Shadow - 21, homeless, because every member of his family has abandoned him one by one. Yarrow keeps trying to keep him, but Shadow doesn't trust anybody to stick around so sometimes he goes home with Yarrow and sometimes doesn't. Copper - 22, Jet's twin, bleached blond hair and glasses, the younger brother and even though they're twins you can tell, has a degree in anthropology, is a social butterfly but is currently devoting his time to the "make Jet feel emotions and be a whole person" project. he dislikes Rune for a while because he's selfish but gets over it.
if you happen to peruse my long list of ocs and find someone else you're interested, I'm always happy to talk about them! probably not immediately, because asks always come in right when I don't have any available brain cells.
thanks for asking, Verdance

Wow….okay. This entire thing had my feelings scattered all over the place — and it’s barely part 1 of chapter 3😭😭 your pen is so immaculate and beautiful, I swear it never ceases to amaze me, love. I will try to keep this short — but knowing how much of this I loved it’ll be a bit of a difficult task <3
Loak kept snoring in your ear, his breath hitting your neck.
His arm lazily thrown above both your heads, his leg sprawled across your shins. You huffed, attempting to turn the opposite way. The uneven weight caused the tent to dip unanticipatedly, causing you to gasp. Your hand reaches towards the wall to steady the motion, and to prevent you and lo'ak from falling.
😭😭 the fact that I can picture this — it’s such a Lo’ak type of situation😂
Kiri was softer spoken as a child, and you were loud and energetic. Your mother always said you were an ocean, and kiri was a lake. You, a soul syncing with the vigorous symphonies of azur-string reprised tidelines and honey-hidden siren songs. The ocean forgives, but it never forgets. Its strength is unmeasured. It waits for nothing.
Kiri was a lake. Lush green ripened grass sits along yellowed-tinted sun hazed stems of oddly-shaped wildflowers and imperfect patterns imprinted on petals. She was calm in the still moving water. You were the strength of the sea.
…
You scoffed.
They'll have to get through dumb and dumber first.?
Kiri huffed, annoyed with the two idiots in question.
Don't trust their judgment. They share one singular brain cell and it malfunctions half the time."
The both of you laugh, trying to keep quiet. You bury your face in Kiris shoulder as the hammock shakes with your giggles.
THIS BOND — KIRI AND Y/N’S BOND IS JUST SO PERFECT, PURE AND BEAUTIFUL I SWEAR😫😫
Jake told you that back on earth, he fought with other humans in a war that seemed like it would
never end.
Sometimes people come out of bloody experiences constantly trying to wash their body because the smell of blood never leaves their nose.
Jake said it haunts you. Like a ghost. Some of the men he met would wake up screaming in the middle of the night. They wouldn't laugh as much. Smile as much. What once was a comfort was now a cold, daunting piece of lost memories.
It's everywhere. And it hurts. What hurts most is that you can't protect yourself from it. Your arrows cannot pierce it. your hands cannot fight it away.
It's real in some uncanny sense of a nauseating nostalgia. The type of memory that makes you thin your eyes because it's too bright.
An invisible devotion, it holds you above its disposal.
It keeps you away from falling in love. From holding someone's hand. From laughing at another's jokes.
Sometimes you hate what you are. What you're made out of. Because your soul constantly fights to build yourself out of ripped pieces of the past.
…
And you weren't fucking there. And now they are gone.
Never getting to watch you or spider grow to be full adults.
Leaving their children without so much as a goodbye.
Your only true goal was to die honorably on the battlefield. If you couldn't find peace, maybe your ghost could.
Love was a weakness.
And when you fall in love, the shell of that pain will disguise itself under their soul.
Go—gosh, what the FUCKKKKKK😭😭😭😭 y/n’s way of thinking, of feeling and acting is beyond heartrending, I swear.
MOVING TO JAKE AND Y/N’S INTERACTION!!
"It's like living on a skeleton."
When he finally speaks, it's quite literally the last thing you would have guessed he would say.
"A skeleton..?"
"Earth is just a shell. Like the carcass of an animal. A corpse, almost."
"I don't understand."
He nodded, scooting a bit closer to you, starting to speak again.
…
Jake paused, something creeping behind the orbs of his irises. It's a sickening dark shade of a color he can't remember, but its bitter aching bones are enough to weaken the courage of a once strong rhythmic heartbeat.
It's a shadow of an echo. Gutted inside something hollow and carved out of shivering pulses running to a soured stillness.
"Humans will take until nothing is left. They will gawk at the lights of a stupid billboard instead of noticing the dying grass under their feet.?
What's a billboard?
You thought, but decided not to ask. ( hehehehejskekdkd)
You stayed quiet, staring at the ground.
"That's why they want this planet. Because they killed their old one.
Jake nods, sighing almost regretfully.
"They think the na'vi is their greatest enemy, when really, the ones who have killed the most humans are. well, more humans.”
You can't imagine it. Taking a life without regarding the soul you have soiled. Does the red on their hands not sting their eyes?
And so forth — how she finds comfortability in speaking to him about what she feels — how Jake understands pieces of what she feels, and how he expresses himself about earth, humanity, BEING A SOLDIER — THEIR RELATIONSHIP IS JUST BEAUTIFUL. AND HOW HE TALKS ABOUT THERAPY AND OFFERS IT TO HER — I need a jake😭
"¡ don't abuse the elderly."
"Oh fuck off i'm not that old."
You faked a wince as jake mounted Bob.
"O, careful grandpa. You shouldn't be moving too much like that."
Jake flipped you off.
"Kiss the darkest side of my blue as-"

LO’AK WAS A SAVIOR TO NETEYAM’S ASS WITH KYUNA — HE IS INDEED SMARTER THAN HE MAY SEEM LMAO — TUK IS DAMN RIGHT. NETEYAM NEEDS TO GET IT TOGETHER AND GO FOR Y/NNNN. (Kyuna….back away, I say.)
“How about we play the quiet game for a bit?”
You’ve accomplished in making your audience ( at least me, but I am damn certain others feel this way !) feel these words, these interactions to the BONE, I tell you, as if they’re actually the ones having these personal one on one physical experiences with the characters. And again, the way you flesh out the bonds y/n has with the sully’s individually is AMAZING — I love when we get to see how she interacts differently with them but done with that “family not by blood but by heart” concept.
Wonderful as freaking always, Sol — you are an inspiration😭💞 EVERYONE, “Virago” part 1 of ch. 3 by the lovely, talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique Sol <33🌅

Authors note:
Here we go! Chapter 3!! It feels insane to be posting the actual third chapter of this. But holy moly, building up romance is much harder than I thought. This chapter is a long one so grab your favorite snack, find a comfy spot and buckle up.
I have a small request for my lovely virago readers, please comment on your favorite line, moment, quote, or dynamic from this chapter. This is so I can know what kind of stuff you guys incline towards so I can throw more of it in as the story continues.
IMPORTANT:
hi guys. So I’ve decided to change spiders age from 20 to 19 for plot purposes. Jake and Neytiri are the same age. Tuk is still 7. Kiri is 19, neteyam is 19, Lo’ak and Y/n are 18.
This chapter is split into 3 parts due to tumblers dumbass word limit. This is part 1.
V I R A G O
Chapter 3;
Cupid Wears A Blindfold.
Y/n’s pov-
Word count: 28k (split)
Lo’ak snores. He snores a lot.
This was no epiphany to you, of course. Lo’ak had always been a snorer, much like Jake.
Ever since the sully’s welcomed you into their home when moving to high camp, sleeping arrangements were always abit of a puzzle.
Tuk often slept in all sorts of weird positions. Often rustling and twitching in her sleep. Some nights she nestles her way in between Jake and Neytiri, the poor couple waking up to an elbow jabbing into their skin.
Kiri was your second best option. She didn’t toss or turn, she didn’t kick or jab or roll. Your only deterrent? Kiri mumbled. Oftentimes talking in her sleep to some soft sung spirit she felt within her own solace, her own safety, her own world.
This never found itself to be a disturbance for you. You didn’t mind the mumbling. Kiri however, claimed ‘she loved you too much to keep you up at night’, and wouldn’t hear a word of it when you tried to convince her that it didn’t bother you.
But it wasn't completely in favor of your sleep schedule. Kiri liked her privacy. And you knew that. Better than most, actually. But that’s what was special about your bond with Kiri. You didn’t need words to understand her. And she loved you for it.
I don’t think I need to explain why sharing a hammock with Jake and Neytiri seemed out of the question.
And though most nights it seemed tempting, sleeping with Neteyam was a no-go.
And here you laid. Staring at the ceiling of the Sully family’s tented Marui home, while everyone slept, you damned yourself restless.
Lo’ak kept snoring in your ear, his breath hitting your neck.
His arm lazily thrown above both your heads, his leg sprawled across your shins. You huffed, attempting to turn the opposite way. The uneven weight caused the tent to dip unanticipatedly, causing you to gasp. Your hand reaches towards the wall to steady the motion, and to prevent you and lo’ak from falling.
You squeezed your eyes shut, taking a breath before shifting yourself evenly again, and Lo’ak continued to snore, his tail now poking your hip.
Your ears perked up at the sound of a soft rustling, and a gentle yawn.
“Y/n?”
You turn your head, seeing a sleepy Kiri blink at you slowly, her bright golden eyes adjusting to the light.
“What’re you doing up?”
She rested on her elbows, elevating herself a bit to see you more clearly.
You sighed, glancing back at Lo’ak.
“Oh. You know. Just doing a little late night praying. Praying that eywa will take me before his snoring does.”
Your blank tone made Kiri giggle, stifling her laughs with her palm.
“Oh trust me. I've shared a tent with him longer than you have.”
Silence draws between you both as your quiet chuckles slowly start to simmer away under the dark tent top.
Kiri sits up slightly, gesturing with one hand for you to come closer.
You shake your head, hesitantly treading her offer. You knew how kiri liked her distance.
“I don’t want to be a bother.”
“You? A bother? Y/n, you’re probably the person in this entire tent that bothers me the least.”
You crack a smile, huffing out a small sigh of defeat.
You slip out of your hammock, slithering your way over small objects that became obstacles on the floor with stealthy yet lethargic motions. of the family’s home before successfully snuggling under the blanket of kiri’s larger hammock. Now comfortable without the cramped positioning.
She chuckled, rubbing your back.
“Comfy?”
You nod, smiling at her.
“You're a lifesaver, Kiri. My hero.”
She ruffles your braids, winking.
“Nah. If anything, you are my hero.”
Kiri and you have always been close, ever since you were children. Your mother and Neytiri were practically attached at the hip, and since you, spider, and lo’ak were always a package deal, you and kiri had grown up playing together.
You always felt protective over Kiri.
A part of you couldn't help it. The day you and Kiri grew closer was the same day Jake had to meet with the Olo’eyktan of the Tawkami clan. The day the Chief’s children were teasing Kiri about her fingers. You and Kiri were about 8 at the time, and she really only saw you play around the village or carrying spider on your back as you trailed behind your mother and her daily chores. Or when your mom walked Lo’ak back to his family’s hut the morning after a sleepover with you and spider.
The day the Tawkami Chief’s children that accompanied him were picking and poking at Kiri’s fingers.
And where were you? Right there beside her. Threatening to feed the children to your mother’s ikran and telling them that your human brother would come and give them his demon blood “diseases” if they didn’t leave her alone.
They stopped picking on her, and she stuck by you from then on. Cause no one knew how to better handle bitchy 9 year olds than you did.
Kiri yawns, gently rolling on her side.
“Get some sleep, Y/n.”
You mumbled an ‘mhm’ before letting your eyes drift shut.
Its been about 15 minutes and sleep still evades you. The comforting vibrations of kiri’s warmth doesn’t seem to lull you like you assumed it would.
“Are you awake?”
Kiri whispered, and it startled you a bit. You assumed she was asleep.
You turned to face her and nodded. Her yellow eyes glowing evergreen tints in the darkness.
“Yes. But don’t let me keep you from sleeping, Kiri.”
She shrugs.
“I can’t sleep either.”
You both stay quiet for a moment, letting the silence settle.
“So, Makeyo spoke with you today?”
The same uneasy feeling returns once again, you blink at Kiri.
You shook your head, your voice quiet as if not to disturb the air around you two.
“We were just talking.”
“About?”
Her whisper courses against the flicker of change in the wind.
You stay quiet once again. Not because its awkward, or uncomfortable.
Sometimes, you felt like there was a shackle chained to your wrist.
The memory of your parents still haunts you.
It shaded you in its prison of night, torturing you to watch the sunlight, but never touch it.
You didn’t love anyone.
And yet, whenever someone offered you their hand, it felt like a trap.
A mockery of betrayal climbs your conscience. It's a hue of warm yellow, drenched in crimson and an agonizing black.
Jake told you that back on earth, he fought with other humans in a war that seemed like it would never end.
Sometimes people come out of bloody experiences constantly trying to wash their body because the smell of blood never leaves their nose.
Jake said it haunts you. Like a ghost. Some of the men he met would wake up screaming in the middle of the night. They wouldn’t laugh as much. Smile as much. What once was a comfort was now a cold, daunting piece of lost memories.
It's everywhere. And it hurts. What hurts most is that you can't protect yourself from it. Your arrows cannot pierce it. your hands cannot fight it away.
It’s real in some uncanny sense of a nauseating nostalgia. The type of memory that makes you thin your eyes because it's too bright.
An invisible devotion, it holds you above its disposal.
It keeps you away from falling in love. From holding someone's hand. From laughing at another’s jokes.
Sometimes you hate what you are. What you’re made out of. Because your soul constantly fights to build yourself out of ripped pieces of the past.
Because all you ever hear is whispers about where that happy little girl went. The girl who chased sun-dripped river banks with the symphony of children’s laughter.
This pain follows you.
When you wake from your nightmare’s it’ll sit in the corner. Watching you.
When someone flirts with you, touches your shoulder, brushes a strand of hair out of your face, it’ll be there.
What was the use of falling in love? As a child, you fantasized about having a love like your parents. So pure, so deep, so unexplainably perfect.
Only for them to die because of something you couldn't protect them from.
It’s not that you feared death. You feared the instantaneousness of it.
The unforeseen figment of a shape only for it to reveal itself to be a scythe.
They didn’t know it would happen, and neither did you.
And you weren’t fucking there. And now they are gone.
Never getting to watch you or spider grow to be full adults.
Leaving their children without so much as a goodbye.
Your only true goal was to die honorably on the battlefield. If you couldn’t find peace, maybe your ghost could.
Love was a weakness.
And when you fall in love, the shell of that pain will disguise itself under their soul.
You shrugged, your eyes averting away from Kiri. There's disconnected fatigue in your tone.
“He was nice.”
“Just nice?”
Kiri raises her eyebrow, scooting a bit closer to you.
You sighed, unsure of how to carry on this conversation. So you’re grateful when she does it for you.
“He’s a good guy. I've seen him help you teach the younger kids. They love him, always trying to climb on his back and asking him to carry them around.”
You nod.
“He’s a good teacher..”
you trail off, fidgeting with one of
Your bracelets. The one tuk made you, the one with mismatched bead sizes and colors. Juvenile plotted patterns in the small vibrant hues.
Kiri snickers.
“He might have to get in line with all your other eager suitors.”
you roll your eyes, poking her with your tail.
It wasn't unusual that Kiri teased you about getting attention.
Lo’ak’s friends sometimes whisper, quietly laughing and shoving each other as you walk by. It becomes hard not to notice as it becomes a frequent pattern.
Sometimes the guys in the hunting party Neteyam was often in, gently tapped each other on the shoulder, more subtly gesturing as you walked around camp or left for a ride, or even just helped with daily chores.
Their attempts usually deem themself futureless when Spider and Lo’ak glare at them, shoo them away the same way you would a pestering flock of birds.
Its a normality. Though spider was only a year older than you, he policed your love life just the same as any older sibling would. He didn't care that you were taller, stronger, bigger than him.
You scoffed.
“They’ll have to get through dumb and dumber first.”
Kiri huffed, annoyed with the two idiots in question.
“Don’t trust their judgment. They share one singular brain cell and it malfunctions half the time.”
The both of you laugh, trying to keep quiet. You bury your face in Kiris shoulder as the hammock shakes with your giggles.
You both sigh after a moment, still smiling.
“I can’t blame them. You’re perfect.”
She whispered.
There's a withering sense of somber behind her voice. It lacked bitterness, but it simmered on a ember, an ephemeral flicker of blue. The sounds of sloshed ash-blue sunsets and burnt-orange auras.
“I am not.”
You mumbled.
Kiri looked up at the top of the tented-hut. The small sparks of comforting vibrations from your bodies nuzzled under the woven blanket that allows only the softest of shivers to seize past the fabric.
“You remind me of my mother. The stories of her in her youth. The perfect woman. Strong, admired, sought out by many, envied by most..”
She trailed off.
If only kiri knew you didn’t feel like that at all.
“You’re my idea of perfection, Kiri.”
She scoffs and rolls her eyes.
Kiri was pretty. You had to remind her of that sometimes. The way her golden eyes shined under a sheet of jaded-glowing evergreen, that of a hued green in a canvassed jungle canopy. Her uneven, choppy, imperfectly, perfectly shaped bangs that fell over her forehead, gentle wisps of dark feathered thick strands.
Kiri’s hair was slightly lighter than most na’vi women. You loved that about her, the almost dark auburn shades of brown that hollowed in chalked streaks of a honeyed glow, proving herself her biological mother’s daughter.
But the one thing you adored most about Kiri?
Her love for Eywa.
You could only envy it.
After the death of your mother, your once undying devotion for the great mother started to rot. You felt like she had failed you. Taken away the most precious piece of your soul and damned her name for tearing you apart and leaving you to pick up the pieces.
You were angry those first few months, and you think differently now. But your breath still shallows at the thought.
Your smiles fade, and the air around you feels hollow for a moment.
“I wish i could see through your eyes, kiri.”
Kiri squeezed your hand, gently holding it to her chest.
“I know you’ve been hurt, Y/n. I know this pain is great..But the great mother has a plan for you. I believe it above all else. You are strong. Stronger than any spirit she has seen…You bring the wailing ash and fire of the demon ships to pity with just your arrowhead. We will heal together, y/n. I will teach you to find your faith again.”
You let your eyes flutter closed.
Your beautiful, sweet Kiri. This wasn’t romance. This was sisterly love in its purest form.
“..Do you ever think about him?”
The question stills you, you looked up at her and blink.
“Who?”
“My brother.”
The comforting warmth suddenly becomes a sweltering heave of heat. You swallow thickly, looking down.
“No.”
Kiri shakes her head.
“Please. Don’t lie to me, Y/n.”
There it is again, the hole in your heart.
“Yes. I think of him sometimes.”
Silence settles again.
“Is it wrong?”
You whisper.
Kiri shakes her head.
“No. its just that he doesn't deserve to live in your mind.”
Kiri loves her older brother. She truly does. But she was right beside you when he drifted away. Even ignoring him because she was angry with how he had treated you.
You squeezed your eyes shut for a moment, cupping her hand in yours.
“I hate it.”
“Hate what?”
“How i feel like a piece of me is missing.”
Kiri’s eyes soften.
“Oh y/n…”
“No.”
Your voice breaks only slightly.
“No. because im better now.
I hated him. I hated his hands. I hated his voice. I hated his back. I hated his arms. I hated his neck. I hated his nose. I hated his ears. I hated when he promised to protect me, I hated when he left me crying in the rain. I hated that I waited for him. I hated that he promised all the stars in the sky were mine. I hated him.
I don’t hate him anymore. I hate the delusions of himself he put inside my head.
I hate how he weakened me.”
Kiri gently brushed some of your braids behind your shoulder
“Heartbreak doesn’t make you weak. If anything, it shows we had something inside of us so beautiful and rare it was worth mourning.”
You blinked back the fresh sting in your eyes. Taking a shaky breath.
“Oh my dear.”
Kiri whispered, hugging you close.
“Get some rest. You don’t need to think about anything right now, I promise.”
You nodded.
“Yeah. yeah okay.”
“You know what? In the morning let’s go bother norm for a bit. Would that make you feel better?”
You chuckled, hugging her back before you both settled in respective places in her hammock.
“It always does,”
Sleep soon found you, taking you in its arms and soothing the sweet darkness.
Across the tent, Neteyam laid awake, his hands clutching a blanket of his own, his body still tensed after what he had just heard.

The next day.
You liked hunting with Jake.
It was high on your list of some of the chores you enjoyed contributing with your new found life in high camp living with the sullies.
Spending time with jake was a bonus. Jake and your family went way back. Your mother was one of the only navi that welcomed him upon his unexpected arrival. She was the one who lended him an older loincloth for him to wear that first night he was captured and the omaticaya took away his RDA uniform, and while he had his first ever meal with the clan at high camp.
Your mother also played a huge role in his journey to become a man of the omaticaya people.
Teaching him things like weaving, beading, and some of the language along with Neytiri.
Your mother was the one who constantly pestered neytiri about her growing feelings for the dreamwalker, helping her unbraid her hair for the nights he spent with jake, letting her cry, laugh, scream, like any good sister would.
Your mother and Neytiri mourned sylwanin together. And your mother grew closer with Mo’at and eytukan as mentors as well, despite neytiri and your mother not being sisters by blood, they loved each other just the same.
Jake and you had a good relationship. Jake often helped train the younger warriors, neteyam, you and lo’ak included.
You were always the fastest, the strongest out of the group, since you were 15.
Jake remembers when you were small. Carrying spider around and chasing lo’ak, bringing gifts to baby tuk, playing in the flower patches with neteyam and making him wear the bracelets and crowns you would braid out the stemmed petals.
Jake was there with you when your parents died, and he ws there when you moved into highcamp with the sully family.
He was there when you had nightmares and woke up in the middle of the night screaming,
You remember those nights, when the images of your mothers body would rip you from your sleep and you’d almost shake poor lo’ak out of the shared hammock with your sobbing and pleading.
You remember jake rushing to you, gently holding you by your shoulders, gently utting your head to his chest.
‘Sweetheart hey- hey i’m here. Mawey, Mawey..easy- easy…there we go. Deep breaths..’
The hoarse tiredness in his voice as oddly comforting.
You remember shaking your head, settling yur breathing as the tears began to flow.
“I-i’m sorry..it was just another bad dream.”
“Hey. never apologize for having a nightmare. You’re okay. You’re safe here. Okay? C’mon. Let's take a walk-that’ll calm you down.”
You trusted jake. You always have. Even today, in the present. So of course you liked hunting with him.
But most of all? You loved flying.
Your ikran was your spirit brother, sometimes even following your commands without tsaheylu.
The bond you had was strong, stronger than most ikran’s are capable of.
And the best part? He had a temper just like you did. The first time you almost met death was your iknimiya.
Your ikran threw you off the cliff, and then flew down to attack you further.
Jake and Neytiri had to hold Neteyam back from swooping into save you.
But you did it. You completed your rite and claimed Kailo as your own.
And you soared with him now, above the clouds, barely containing the smile etched on your face as the wind whips through your braids.
You loved heights. You loved how infinitely endless the sky seemed, burning with blasts of azure or an early morning blaze of fire-hued sunrises, or the cold warmth of the rain that refused to fall within the stars.
Revered by the scattered songs of synodic vespers and requiems of rainstorms. The sky cannot be caged. It cannot be concealed or hidden, it is your sanctuary, enraptured by effortless divinity and strength.
Your ikran let out a shrill and you pet its neck.
“Easy, Kailo..”
You hummed, looking over to jake, who sat atop his own companion, Bob. His dreads caught in the wind behind him as he waved for your attention.
“y/n!”
The wind carried his volume.
“I think we should take a break. In an hour or two the yerik herds will come to the river bank. Let’s law low in the woods.”
“Yes sir.”
You gently kicked Kailos' side, tilting the reins to descend after Jake into the forest, weaving around trees and foliage.
You laugh as a gust of wind trails you and Kailo, almost throwing Jake off his line of flight. Kailo was one of the fastest ikran your clan had ever seen. At least, that’s what the elders of the clan had told you.
Lo’ak was often jealous of spider because spider always got free rides on Kailo. You land before Jake, hopping off Kailo’s back and petting his neck.
“Mawey, tsmukan”
(calm, brother.)
Jake landed after you, the sound of ikran wings announcing his arrival. He climbed down right after you, patting the neck of his own Ikran, bob.
Jake spotted some Yovo fruit trees up ahead, cutting you both down a few as you both sat down on some rocks for snack break.
Jake leaned back, handing you a half of his own fruit as you muttered a small thank you.
His eyes wandered, as he glanced up at the trees, as if his gaze had become conscious of every shape and sound that surrounded him.
“I remember this place.”
Jake uttered in a soft hum in the air, his line of sight tracing around the figment of nostalgic fixation in the air.
You raised an eyebrow, munching on your fruit.
“Here? At this spot?”
Jake nods, nudging your shoulder with his knuckles. Pointing to the source of the sound of trickling water.
“The pond. Back when I was training for iknimaya. Way before your time.”
He smirked, as if it was something to brag about.
You rolled your eyes,
“Oh goody. Another one of grandpa's war stories.”
Jake chucked a Yovo fruit at your head but you caught it effortlessly, not even glancing.
“I’m not that old.” he huffs, clearly impressed at your heightened reflexes.
You chuckled, flipping your knife in your hand to withdraw it from its place in the sheath on your hip to cut open the fruit.
“Can’t move it like you used to, huh pops?”
“You know, I could have you banished.”
“Than who would save Lo’ak next time he wants to play tag with a thanator?”
Jake ruffled your braids in response to your surmise, clearly holding back a smile.
“Where would I be without ya, kid?”
You shrugged, handing him another half of the freshly cut fruit.
“Probably in one of those healing homes back on earth.”
“You mean nursing homes.”
“Same thing.”
Jake shook his head, letting out a sigh, knowing it was probably spider who taught you such a term.
He glanced around again, brushing in the scenery.
A silence commences between you both, the soft shrills and distant flap of wings within the deep jungle is the only sound that demands attention.
Jake speaks softly, breaking the silence with fragile, yet scrambled steps.
“She never fails to take my breath away.”
You look up at him, watching as he leaned back against the tree, letting his eyes flutter closed.
“Who?” you whisper.
“Pandora.”
He hums in response.
you often forgot Jake wasn’t from this planet. That his true home could only be seen as the sirius among scattered stars. What was it like? Seeing your home from below? The only thing worth touching is the implacable incarnation of your memories.
To hide what was left of yourself, a mere ghost that lingered in the wrinkled corners of your mind.
“What was it like..your home?”
You whispered.
Jake’s ears perk up, his eyes landing on you as he sat up slightly.
He stayed quiet for a moment. Staring up at the sky, his finger gently tracing one of the stripes on his leg as his gaze remained absent.
“It’s like living on a skeleton.”
When he finally speaks, it's quite literally the last thing you would have guessed he would say.
You raised your eyebrow.
“A skeleton..?”
He nodded.
“Earth is just a shell. Like the carcass of an animal. A corpse, almost.”
“I don’t understand.”
He nodded, scooting a bit closer to you, starting to speak again.
“Earth used to be beautiful. So many colors you couldn’t count them all.”
You nodded, trying to imagine the formless figment of a world in which you’ve never seen.
He closed his eyes, as if trying to remember.
“There was light, lots of it. The air, the sun, the stars…”
You blinked at him.
“What happened to it?”
Jake paused, something creeping behind the orbs of his irises. It's a sickening dark shade of a color he can’t remember, but its bitter aching bones are enough to weaken the courage of a once strong rhythmic heartbeat.
It’s a shadow of an echo. Gutted inside something hollow and carved out of shivering pulses running to a soured stillness.
“Humans will take until nothing is left. They will gawk at the lights of a stupid billboard instead of noticing the dying grass under their feet.”
What's a billboard?
You thought, but decided not to ask.
You stayed quiet, staring at the ground.
“That’s why they want this planet. Because they killed their old one.”
Jake nods, sighing almost regretfully.
“They think the na’vi is their greatest enemy, when really, the ones who have killed the most humans are…well, more humans.”
You can’t imagine it. Taking a life without regarding the soul you have soiled. Does the red on their hands not sting their eyes?
And that's when you realized it.
Death hummed shallowly in its own pulsating methods. But even the devil has an advocate.
You killed. You have killed many. And it doesn’t seem to register until that very moment. You never thought to count the number of raids you had accompanied your clan on, Jake appointed you as his main archer when you were only 15.
When rage and grief overshadowed the shallowness of sunlight all you wanted to do was avenge.
An untamed anger was born in you when your parents died. And you swore every arrow you ever shot was in their names.
Zensira.
Kai’lik.
Zensira.
Kai’lik.
How would they look at you now?
Their little girl. The little girl they loved. Their beautiful, beautiful precious girl who loved to hear her mother sing. Their little girl who loved to carry your big brother spider around, (because your big brother wasn’t so big compared to you.)
Who loved to visit the pond and play with lo’ak. Who liked to make bracelets with kiri and get thrown into the lake by your dad, tossing around your small body when you were 7 as you squealed through the freshwater air.
A killer.
“Y/n? Y/n. Hey, hey, what’s wrong?”
Jake placed a hand on your shoulder, but his touch felt cold.
Jake’s voice sounded like your head was under water. Blurred, distant sounds.
Your breath becomes shallow, but you weren’t hyperventilating. You were just…still.
What if you had failed them? What if they were watching you right now?
Knowing you had killed. Not hunted.
Hunting was for survival. To feed your family, your friends, your clan.
This was killing. This wasn’t a need. It was a want. A want for vengeance.
Were you even a na’vi at all? Killing without respect for life even if they were a human.
Your mother forgave. Your father forgot.
And what were you? A disgrace of everything they stood for.
Your voice came out like a whisper. Every thought and feeling swirling around in your head. Despite your silent panic, the air felt eerily calm, and almost mocking ambience.
“Did I disappoint them?”
Jake stilled for a moment, rubbing your back.
“Who?”
“All of them.”
“All of them?”
You swallowed thickly.
“Y/n..you know you can talk to me, right?”
You nodded, staying quiet for a moment as you stared down at your shaking hands.
“Am I a bad person?”
Jake’s eyes widen a bit for a moment, his hand slowly withdrawals from its place on your shoulder.
“Why would you think that?”
“Because sometimes I like the way pain feels.”
Something clicked for Jake at that moment.
Where you saw your hand bloodied by a manic anger and bones with regretful splintered scars, Jake saw a shadow. A shadow of a distressed consciousness that he once acquainted himself with.
Jake was no stranger to products of war. Even when those products were souls losing their vibrancy. The colors fading into hardened flesh.
Jake had seen war turn people into hollow shells. Unheard prayer scattered and dissipated under a blood-stained sky.
Jake finally spoke, but his words, slow and somber, treaded a steeper meaning.
“You aren’t a bad person, Y/n. You’ve been hurt. Hurt by people even eywa cannot forgive.”
You shook your head, the threat canvassed along perpetual doubts.
“I don’t know why I’m like this.”
You admitted.
Jake places his hand back on your shoulder again.
“Sometimes people like us, soldiers, we start to like the pain because we think it’s the only thing we'll ever deserve. But we don’t like it at all. Not really.”
You can almost see it. The stars are falling again. The tapestry thread being pulled mercilessly. The colors are falling. The sun is turning cold.
You had to catch them. You had to chase the colors or else they would abandon you again.
Your reflection seems distorted. Liquid glass in the taunting shape of a little girl.
A little girl who knew no bloodshed. No war. No pain. No anger.
You would never be that little girl again. And its all your fault. You wanted to kill someone after your parents died. You wanted to kill every single human that worked for the RDA or even set foot on their base.
It’s sick.
It’s wrong.
It’s vile.
But its you. This wreckage of scars and bruises, tattered tapestries and broken bird songs, its all you.
That all too familiar sting hit the back of your throat, you could feel your gaze numbing.
“I’m beyond fixing.”
You whispered.
“No one is beyond fixing.”
He promised.
“Can you take some deep breaths with me? Just a few, Y/n.”
You followed his instructions, and the red started to simmer away. The air felt forgiving once again, and your throat started to feel normal once again.
You spoke again finally, after a few moments of silence.
“Maybe I should have my na’vi card revoked.”
You chuckled dryly.
Jake patted your back. “You and me both, kiddo.”
“What you feel is normal.”
He added.
“That anger. That vengeance.”
You glanced up at him. “Na’vi are supposed to solve conflict peacefully first. War is just a last resort.”
Jake scoffed.
“I think we’ve reached the last resort awhile ago, Sweetheart.”
You went to speak, but were quickly cut off.
“y/n you are not some kind of psychopath. You don’t kill for no reason. You kill to protect. You fight because something dear to you is threatened, that's what makes a warrior true to their heart, their clan.”
His words eased your anxiety a bit. But the shadow behind the sun still creeped disguised under the warmth of forgiveness.
“I’m not a bad person. I don’t know why I want them to feel pain.”
You whispered.
Sometimes you wondered if pretending to be made out of stone means you’d still break like glass.
War was the type of calm that tranquilized. Drugged you into delusions of comfort.
Somewhere inside you was that little girl. She hates you. She hates you with all her heart.
Somewhere inside you is that 15 year old that’s waiting for neteyam in the rain you swear is just falling stars. She hates you. She hates you with all her heart.
Somewhere inside you is your mothers daughter. Wondering who did this to you.
You didn’t like violence But you were prone to it.
You didn’t like war. But you're afraid of the day it no longer has a use for you.
War ruined you. Because war made you angry. And anger tortured you.
You weren’t deserving of sunlight, maybe that's why you familiarize yourself with the bleakness of dusk.
Maybe that’s why you loved Neteyam.
Maybe that’s why you hated yourself.
Maybe that’s why you’ve trained yourself with blood stains and tear tracks.
Your mother was forgiving. She adopted a human child after watching her family die, and hometree fall.
She devoted herself to eywa, a woman true to the kindness of her heart and the flame of forgiveness.
She had seen fire and escaped it.
You had seen fire and burned with it.
The shackles on your wrist. The burning in your throat.
You were a child forced into a warrior.
And maybe it was time to heal, but why didn’t it allow you?
This shadow oppressed you. And maybe this prolonged insanity was a good sanctuary to be understood, not severed. Your bones were made of seared iron, the fissure of a once porcelain excellence.
War had ruined you. And ruined things didn’t deserve to be loved.
Jake pulled you close to him, wrapping an arm around you, you leaned your head on his shoulder.
“You’re one of the fucking strongest people i know. You know that?”
He whispered, and the simplicity of his touch settled an almost agonizing comfort.
“Can you fix me?”
You whisper.
Jake shook his head.
“Y/n. You are not something to be fixed. You need to be healed. And I know you can do it. And we’ll be right beside you the whole damn time.”
You let yourself close your eyes.
“You're a soldier, kid. Just like me. A fighter. It’s all we think we know, all we think we’ll ever deserve. We swear to live and die on that battlefield.”
You nod.
“Sometimes it feels like the battlefield is the closest to home.”
Jake speaks once more,
“Until you find someone who feels a little closer.”
By the way he smiled softly, you knew he was talking about Neytiri.
You leaned further into his shoulder, and he patted your back.
“You know, back on earth, we have a special way of dealing with cases like these. Soidlers who need trauma relief.”
You blinked at him, immediately intrigued.
“You do? How?”
“Therapy.”
You tried the strange human word out on your tongue.
“Ther…ah…pey-
There-a-pay-”
“Therapy.”
Jake corrected gently.
“What’s that?” You asked, as Jake stood up, putting his knife back in his sheath.
“Its where you go to someone who can help you talk things out. Iv’e seen a few back in my days. Military psychologists are what we call em’.”
You raised your eyebrow.
From spending time with max, norm, and spider, you knew that humans had a different way of dealing with their feelings than na’vi did. But this new information peaked your interest.
“How can i find one?”
Jake paused.
That’s a damn good question.
He thought to himself.
He hummed for a moment, petting bobs neck and you put your bow back in its place on your saddle.
“How about this, every few days, you and I can meet.”
Jake proposed.
You raised your eyebrows.
“Where?”
He shrugged. “Anywhere you want. We can go to one of the mountains, or the stream, or the caves, whatever. It can be private. And we can talk like you would to a therapist.”
You considered it for a moment, but after all, maybe this would fix you.
You shook on it and agreed.
“Deal.”
Jake ruffled your braids and smiled.
“Attagirl. Lets get moving. Those yerik are probably at the lake by now. I’ll race you.”
You mounted Kailo, rolling your eyes.
“I don’t abuse the elderly.”
“Oh fuck off i’m not that old.”
You faked a wince as jake mounted Bob.
“Oo, careful grandpa. You shouldn't be moving too much like that.”
Jake flipped you off.
“Kiss the darkest side of my blue as-”
Before he could finish, You and Kailo took to the skies.

Back at high camp..
Neteyam’s pov:
Lo’ak groaned as he laid in his hammock.
Today felt like small pieces had been torn out of it. The absence of my father, my mother, Kiri and Y/n all contributed to this unease.
It fascinating how easily little pieces of things leave something so unstructured when certain routines in your life undergoes a sudden cessation. Only fragments of familiarity keep me company today.
Oh, yeah. That and Lo’ak’s bitching.
I’m never one to complain. Not really. But Lo’ak…He was my personal acception.
I’ve been stuck with him since this morning. My father took Y/n out to hunt early before I awoke, and my mother and Kiri have gone to assist my grandmother in the Tsahik tent. Lo’ak lost his flight privileges after that little stunt he pulled during the raid, and I don’t feel like going anywhere alone. I offered to join my father last night on his hunt this morning, but my father insisted he and Y/n go hunting alone.
I offered to help my grandmother, but Kiri beat me to it. My mother asked me to stay home and start preparing for tonights meal. So here i was hunched over chopping up root vegetables while I was stuck in this void we called home. I felt detached today. Like the world just floated around me while I remained rooted like a weathering tree.
My accidental overhearing over my sister and Y/n talking last night is still fresh on my mind.
“Dude..I think you’re done with that one.”
Lo’ak’s voice finally reaches my ears.
I lift my head, and he points down to where i had clearly been so distracted, i had diced the poor vegetable into tiny pieces, too small to be cooked over a fire. They would shrivel away in the smoke.
I threw them to the side, trying to refocus.
“What is up with you today?” Lo’ak interrogates instead of asking. I keep my eyes down, shrugging.
“Nothing. Why?”
He shrugs, mocking my movements, leaning back in his hammock, leaving his leg to dangle, his toes brushing the ground.
“Dunno. You just seem kinda…off?”
I sigh, scraping the new batch of chopped vegetables off the carved board i was cutting them on and into the wooden bowl with my knife.
“Just a bit tired. I didn’t get much sleep last night”
Technically, that wasn’t a lie. Which seems in my favor, if you remember from earlier, I’m a shit liar.
Memory was a funny thing. It claws at your mind until you grant it consciousness, and then it romances itself with such scandalous notions. Unforgiving us for ever dreaming of forgetting.
It wants to awake something in us that we can only pray stays dead.
I knew I shouldn't have been listening to Y/n’s words. I knew I should have been asleep.
But know that it’s found me, it captures me.
I want to exist in her mind not only as a figment, because there’s one particular part that is beating the shit out of me.
‘I don’t hate him anymore. I hate the delusions of himself he put inside my head.’
I used to think she only hated me. Hated me for my ignorance, my hesitance, my fear.
I hated it too.
But no. She hated me because she thought i lied to her, gave her something so precious, so inexplicably binding only to shatter it infront of her eyes.
My love for her was never a lie. It was never a joke, or a ruse, or a figment in this phantom of longing that looms over me.
I couldn’t allow this to go on any longer. That I knew for sure.
Unfortunately, getting to Y/n was a wall i couldn’t seem to climb.
When she wasn’t out hunting or strategizing air strikes with my father, she was with spider, and Spider didn’t let me go within 5 feet of Y/n.
I had to admire him for it, despite him becoming a vicissitude in the middle of my current mission, I had to give him some slack as a fellow oldest sibling.
If anyone had hurt kiri, or tuk (when she came of age to engage in such ‘romantic affairs’) , if anyone hurt them the way I hurt y/n, I’d probably have to put my mother’s years of archery lessons to use. Granted, My father would probably skin the poor bastard and wear him as a coat before I even got a chance.
I can’t blame him for protecting Y/n.
I try to think further as i continue chopping, my tail flicking behind me.
I decide Kiri is my best option. I’ll find her when she returns from Tsahik’s tent. Eywa please, just give me one chance. I swear i’ll-
“Where’s Tuk?”
Lo’ak suddenly pipes up, he probably got bored with his own laziness.
I glance up at him as i scarped off my knife.
“Kyuna picked her up this morning to take her to play with popiti for the day.”
Lo’ak raised an eyebrow.
“Kyuna?”
I nodded, not looking up.
“Your new mate?”
I don’t like the way he said ‘new mate’. As if i had one in the first place.
I shake my head, slightly annoyed.
“She’s not my mate. I’m not interested in kyuna.”
“Tuk said-”
“Tuk doesnt know what shes talking about.”
Lo’ak shrugs, leaning back to sit up a bit, looking at me with skeptical eyes.
“What’s really going on with you?”
“I don’t know what you speak of.”
He scoffs. “I’m not stupid, Neteyam. You’re acting off. You have all morning, all day, and even now. Whats the deal?”
I place my knife down, glaring at my brother.
“I don’t owe you an explanation. Okay?”
The tent falls silent, and I continue on with my chores, I hear Lo’ak mutter a small apology under his breath. I cave.
“No, I’m just tired..I shouldn’t have snapped like that.”
Lo’ak nods, fidgeting with his songchord.
“If you don’t want kyuna…You aren’t thinking about Y/n. right?”
Lo’ak was more than displeased when I started courting y/n. And he didn’t try to hide it either.
Lo’ak loves y/n. Not romantically. But he loves her.
It’s the kind of closeness that isn’t sex or intimately deep.
Lo’ak always felt like the distant star in our family. The one who strays from the perfect rotation of each patterned path.
His hands were stained with hunger. Imperfect painted sun blood stained skies.
Lo’ak’s trust in us was ghostly and transluscent. He didn’t always feel like he fit the shape carved for him.
Lo’ak’s imperfect edges, sharpened and rough, scarred and edged to a point.
He found his place between Spider and Y/n. His bestest friends. Two people he would die for.
Found his own sky.
Dark blue and purple hues and the warmth of pale moonlight, he found his place.
When Lo’ak found something that accepted him, he protected it with his life.
And I can’t blame him. Being in love your brother's best friend is awkward.
Lo’ak was afraid of me stealing that away from him.
Of me invading his circle.
The reality of a sacrifice is an odd, unevenly constructed abstraction.
People don’t think I was born from my mother, rather I was carved from stone and polished to a pristine hue of gold.
My parents expected me to build myself wings and fly further than anyone had ever tried.
When the line wasn’t perfectly straight, it was erased and made a new slate. Blank. Perfect. Spotless.
And sometimes, I’m not neteyam to my parents.
I’m my mother, just a younger version.
I am my father, worn thin from a war and plagued by my past promises.
I’m just a shell of something that was no more. Something to refill with their own pieces of the past.
My skin and soul is only stitched out of parts of them. But only the unscathed parts.
Anything that dared to be less than that was indescent. Unworthy of the light.
My mother’s anger, my fathers guilt, was a far too discolored shade to be seen in the sky.
My existence was like a kaleidoscope of muted colors. A prism turned prison.
I think I’ve forgotten how to slouch. How to sit with an unwelcome posture. How to fidget and how to fantasize.
My entire life is full of sacrifices.
Sacrificing y/n for my future.
Sacrificing my brothers best friend. My future mate.
But I’ll be damned if I loose her again.
So, I lie for the second time.
“No. I wasn’t thinking about y/n, idiot.”
Lo’ak nods,
Leaning back, closing his eyes. I mentally high five eywa because he doesn’t interrogate me further.
“You know, instead of taking a nap, you could be helping me.”
I huff, and fight the urge to roll my eyes, and he sighs dramatically.
“Neteyam, I’m too pretty for slave labor.”
I throw a vegetable at his head and he hisses in pain.
“Fuck you. That’s sibling abuse.”
He whines.
“I’m about to abuse my responsibilities with this knife if you don’t get up off your lazy ass and do something useful with your existence.”
I point my knife at him and he groans, standing up and leaving the hammock.
“Easy there, big bro. Spider will be here soon.”
I raise my brow, an uneasy feeling settling in my chest.
“Spider? Here?”
He nods.
“Yeah. We have chores to do too, ya know.”
I shake my head, slicing the new vegetable horizontally, watching the colored juices trickle down the roots and stain the cutting board.
“No. Not here. You know how mother feels about spider.”
Spider was my mother’s foil. An old term our father taught us.
My mother owed Zensira her life. And she swore to her a long time ago, that if anything happened to her or ka’lik, she would step up to be a mother to y/n, the same went for my father.
But Zensira didn’t have one child. She had two. Spider was not biologically her child, but he was treated like her son all the same. Living in Y/n’s family’s tent, being cared for, the same way any mother would nurture a child.
My mother made promises for y/n. But she never made any for spider.
I don’t think she ever will.
To her, she was a demon. And alien. The type of animal with no hope of survival, but refuses to die. Remains unyielding even under the unwelcoming atmosphere of pandora.
He was an actor. A pathetic excuse of a performance. A pale child painted blue.
My mother loves y/n the same way she loves tuk and Kiri. Would go the same lengths for her as she would for any of her children, and the same thing applies to my father.
Spider was allowed everywhere in high camp except our family’s hut.
My grandmothers hut was an exception, because it was a communal place in our clan.
But my mother refused to have any sky demon’s presence scathe the memories of her home. Her only safe place. Where she raised her children and started her new life.
That’s probably why Lo’ak spent so much time at Y/n’s hut when he was little. It was one of the only places he could be comfortably with both Y/n and Spider at the same time.
“You know how mom feels about spider in the hut.”
Lo’ak’s expression is blanked with disinhibited concern and a genuine lack of guilt.
“Mom isn’t here. She’ll be gone all day. Plus, we’re making y/n some new arrows. She’s on that group hunt tonight.”
I crossed my arms.
“And who allowed you to mess with her supplies?”
Lo’ak scoffed. Placing his hands on his hips with a cocky grin.
“The mighty archer herself. I’ve been appointed by Y/n and tasked with a very important job. Who am I to decline her?”
“Just make sure he isn’t here for long. She can smell him if he’s been in here. You know mom’s senses.”
Lo’ak waves me off, standing to his feet, grabbing the small baskets of purple and red feathers y/n used for the fletching of her arrows, and starts to tie them to the shaft of the arrow.
Spider joined him not long after, the two if them sat in the middle of the tent, crafting arrows and talking.
Spider glanced at me after finishing another arrow.
“So where is everyone today?”
“Father took Y/n hunting. My mother and Kiri are assisting grandmother- and Tuk is with popiti.”
Spider raised an eyebrow at me, his mask fogging up momentarily with each breath.
“Who? Popiti?”
Lo’ak rolled his eyes.
“Kyuna’s little sister.”
Spider nodded in realization, then his expression soured.
Lo’ak snorted. “Neteyam’s new mate.”
“For the 5th time, she’s not my mate.”
Spider chuckles along with him and I swear i’m losing neurons from just breathing the same air as Lo’ak and Spider.
Or really, just Lo’ak.
I stood to my feet as i heard footsteps outside. Tuk must’ve finished up her activities with Popiti for the day.
Usually, It was An’kora. Popiti’s mother, who walked Tuk home in the afternoons.
But when I opened the flap. I’m faced with a face that isn’t my little sister, her braids slightly disheveled from a day of wild fantasies and games of tag.
A na’vi girl, with mid length braids and a beaded top smiles at me so sweetly it’s sickening.
You know those kinds of people that you've known since your childhood, and you always knew in one way or another, they would grow up to be assholes?
Yeah. That's Kyuna.
Kyuna was the girl that never let Spider or Kiri, Or Lo’ak play any of her games because of their ‘sky people germs'.
Kyuna was the girl that told everyone not to sit next to Y/n in the communal lessons we attend as children, telling everyone that she lived with a human boy who gave her diseases.
She does this thing where she laughs into her hand, and leans on the person closest to her, expecting them to allow her access nto their personal space as if the world had her name written on it.
She bows slightly, her movements unnecessarily exaggerated as she raises her two fingers to her forehead and dips them down.
“Oel ngati kameie, Neteyam.”
I return the gesture, nodding at her.
“Kyuna. It’s good to see you.”
No it’s not.
She bats her eyes at me, and my annoyance only simmers away when a familiar smaller na’vi body slams herself into my leg, pressing her head into my hip.
I chuckle softly, ruffling Tuk’s braids.
“Hey Tuk-Tuk. Did you have a fun time?”
I pat her shoulder as she opens her mouth to speak, her big eyes sparkling before she’s cut off by a shriek-like voice.
“Oh she had tons of fun! Her and Popiti just ran around for hours playing their silly little games.”
When you're an older sibling, you start to catch onto things. You start to memorize your younger siblings' habits, mannerisms, movements, even the slightest twitch of their tail.
Tuk was a creature of habit. And I could tell by the way she gently tugged on my loincloth, and the way she tucked herself behind my arm, she was uncomfortable.
I reach my hand out, and she takes it within a split second, gently borrowing herself in the space behind me.
I lean down a bit, keeping my hand in it’s place on her shoulder.
“Are you hungry? Why don’t you go on inside, yes? Spider and Lo’ak are already sitting. I’m sure Lo’ak would love to make you some seed-leaf wraps.”
Her tail flicks at the mention of her favorite snack, and she finally cracks a smile, before jogging inside.
“She’s adorable. Isn’t she??”
Kyuna sighs in an almost dreamily manner, I stand up straight again to face her.
“My mother was informed An’kora was taking Tuk home today. Did something come up?”
She waves me off, ridding my concern from the air.
“Mother got tied up on foraging duty. I figured I'd watch the girls and walk Tuk home.”
I nod, slowly. “Ah. Well, thank you for taking her home.”
She smiles, tilting her head like a viperwolf begging for scraps.
“Oh. No need to thank me. She’s precious, that little Tuktirey.”
I never liked the way she talked about my sister. Her tone was almost mocking, as if she was describing a doll or some kind of inanimate object.
“Well. I should get going. I don’t trust lo’ak alone with the firepit and Tuk is probably hungry-”
“My father wanted me to invite you on his next hunt. Are you free midday tomorrow?”
I wasn’t surprised when she offered. It’s all she talked about the last 4 times I had saw her.
The one time I did agree, all the man would talk about was what kinds of flowers Kyuna liked, and how no one had courted her yet.
My eywa, I wonder why.
There’s an unsteady rhythm that inhabits itself in my chest. The kind that sets off warning signals in your brain.
I scratch the back of my head awkwardly, my knuckle brushing my tswin.
“It’s a kind offer, really. But I’m already expected to join the night hunt tonight. The one led by y/n and my father.”
She stared at me with some notion of unrequited enamour, and I almost feel bad for her.
“I’m sorry. Maybe another time?”
She nods, her tail swishing behind her.”
“Of course. I’d expect nothing less from the future olo’eyktan of our clan.”
The emphasis on my title seems almost slurred, and my body instinctively takes a step back the moment she takes a step forward.
“Yes, well, my training has only been increasing.”
“Such a strong warrior. A man of the people. I’m surprised you don’t have the women of our clan falling at your feet. Oh, wait You do!”
Why was she yelling? I’m literally two feet in front of her.
I shifted uncomfortably on my feet.
“I should get back inside, kyuna.”
“One more thing, Neteyam?”
I don’t turn my body fully towards her, but my eyes focus on her figure nonetheless.
“There’s been rumors.”
Something twists in my stomach the moment she says that. Like a static running blank. Or soundwaves straightening into lines.
“What?”
“People talk. And there’s been word that the future olo’eyktan of our people will never find his tsahik.”
I groan, dragging my palm down my face.
“Don’t bother me with such matters, Kyuna. All this talk of the future that is too far away to be treading towards. My father is too stubborn to give up his place that fast. He will remain olo’eyktan for a long time before I take his place.”
She shrugs, crossing her arms.
“All i’m saying is..”
She takes another step, her chest nearly touching mine.
“You are wanted for more than you think. The women of this clan practically swoon over the thought of being by your side, and you haven’t even blinked at them.”
I click my tongue, averting my eyes.
“My future mate is none of your business. Nor is it the clans. Not now, at least.”
She goes to speak; but before she can utter her next words, Lo’ak came stumbling out of the tent with a less than pleased expression on his face.
“Bro.”
He tugs on my arm, gagging exaggeratingly.
“Tuk threw up- it’s a mess in there. Whatever Kyuna fed her is NOT sitting well.”
I blink at my brother, but it quickly registers that something wasn’t right.
“Are you sure? She seemed fine when she came home-“
“Dude. I know barf when I see it.
She must have ate something bad at Popiti’s.”
Kyuna was stunned, crossing her arms in an offended manner.
“I beg your pardon? Tuk didn’t eat anything at my place today.”
Lo’ak scoffed.
“Uh huh. Sure. You’re probably just trying to poison my sister. Aren’t you? Our father will be hearing about this!”
My main concern at the moment is Tuk.
“Excuse me-“
I muttered to Kyuna as an excuse for a goodbye, shoving past Lo’ak to my family’s tent, expecting to see a poor Tuktirey doubled over, regurgitating what was either late breakfast or early lunch, when instead all that comes into view is Tuk sitting cross-legged next to spider, as he starts methodically picking out some of the different seeds from the assorted bowls we used to prepare our meals. As he sat making leaf wraps for a suspiciously fine looking Tuk.
I crouched down next to her, feeling her forehead and keeping a hand gently on her back.
“Are you okay, Tuk?”
She nodded, blinking up at me.
My eyes flicker up when Lo’ak enters the tent, whistling as if nothing just happened.
“Lo’ak, Tuk seems fine..”
I trail off.
He winks at me.
“Your welcome. Kyuna left us in peace.”
Pain in the ass or not, I have to admit, Lo’ak was smarter than we give him credit for.
when I finally finished peeling the vegetables, I left them in their basket and enjoyed a break with Tuk, Lo’ak, and Spider.
We all sat eating Spider’s very poor excuse of a seed-leaf wrap. But they worked, for some odd reason no one could place.
Spider didn’t eat, because of his mask, so i guess he settled for conversation.
“So, Tuk. How was your playdate?”
Tuk nods eagerly, talking through a mouth full of seed-wrap.
I reach for the extra cloth in my loincloth pocket, letting her wipe her mouth before speaking normally again.
“It was fun. But I don't think I like Kyuna anymore.”
Lo’ak scoffed, high fiving tuk.
“Put er’ there sis. Neither do I. She’s a bitch.”
“Lo’ak. Language.” I scold, smacking his head lightly.
He rolls his eyes.
“Fine. Shes a B-I-T-C-H. Better?” Spider laughs. Leaning back.
Lo’ak shoves him.
“Oh and what’s so funny? Mr, ‘i’m afraid of women’?”
Spider shakes his head, raising his pointer finger to poke lo’aks chest.
“Correction. I’m afraid of your mother and Y/n.”
“Everyones afraid of Y/n.”
I ignore Lo’ak and Spider’s bickering, turning my attention to Tuk.
“Was Kyuna bothering you?”
She shook her head, taking another bite. Speaking through a mouth full of food
“Nuh-uh. But she kept asking me if you were home, and if you had received any courting gifts yet, or if you wanted to go hunting with her.”
I bit my tongue, smoothing down some of tuk’s stray braids.
“How about this, Next time, I’ll walk you home from Popiti’s.”
She nodded and took another bite of her food.
“I don’t think she should be your mate anymore”
Tuk shakes her head disapprovingly, crossing her arms over her chest.
Spider raises an eyebrow.
“Kyuna and you are a mated pair? Since when?”
Lo’ak snickers and I groan.
“For the last time, she is not my mate.”
Tuk blinks at me before speaking again.
“Can you mate with y/n instead? She’s nicer.”
I shove another leaf wrap into her hands.
“How about we play the quiet game for a bit?”

K so I decided to talk about the residents of Star Town in my “Hero of the Stars” AU since they’re important to know (I don’t consider Meta Knight or the Meta-Knights town residents since they basically live on the Halberd here so yeah I’m not sharing more on them yet. Same with the residents of Castle Dedede). Call this not-final or anything, just my general idea for the town cast (main and side characters alike):
Adeleine
-Local young girl
-Apprentice of Vividria
-Best friends with Marx
-Positive/Optimistic
-Tries her best
-One of the few sane people in the cast
Marx
-Local jester
-Prankster
-Tricky boi
-Loves space and magic stuff
-Uses his hat as hands (don’t ask I think it works in Star Allies)
-Almost always seen on his beach ball
Bandana Waddle Dee
-Technically a resident of Castle Dedede but he lived in the town for a while so-
-Good boi
-Loyal and friendly
-Lots of emotional attachment to his bandana, will have an existential crisis without it
-Basically the #1 Waddle Dee of the place and the closest to the king (though the king loves all of his Waddle Dees unconditionally [granted, he’s a huge tsundere for them and just about everyone in existence, but-)
-Can be very shy and timid
Magolor
-Local egg shopkeeper
-Halcandra kinda collapsed in on itself here and the Lor is never seen here so he is shrouded in mystery
-Greedy egg who wants your money
-Sells stuff from around the galaxy (egg has been places)
-Would probably be really OP if I allowed him to be plot-important
Chef Kawasaki
-Restaurant owner except he can actually cook well here
-Has employed Pitch, ChuChu, and Nago to help with running his restaurant (mainly, they c l e a n )
-Very nice bean man
-He is trying his best every day
Rick
-Fuzzball hamster
-Loves his girlfriend (Pick, who lives in Fruity Forest) with all his heart
-Nice bean who is happy to give children piggyback rides
-Best buds with Kine and Coo ‘cus Animal Friends
-Strong boi (or at least tries to be)
Coo
-Librarian birb
-Yes he runs a library here fite meh-
-Smart birb
-He is the kind-yet-strict adult
-Out of all the animal friends, he holds all the brain cells
Kine
-Carefree fish man
-Loves his wife (Mine)
-Lives in a nearby lake with said wife
-Yes he is like the games and novels where he can not die on land because magic fish
-Would be the first to cry during the apocalypse
Pitch
-Strong birb
-Kinda like Tokkori but not a d-bag
-No-nonsense yet still does not contain brain cells
-Loves his mama (Pitch Mama, never forget her)
ChuChu
-Looking for love
-IDK anything about Nyupun so just pretend they live together and are either housemates or dating
-Secretly very vindictive and stuff but in a comedic way
Nago
-Laid-back boi
-Does some usual cat stuff like sleeping in impossible positions (IDK I heard cats do that, I don’t have a cat)
-Has a girlfriend (Shiro) who lives all the way in Iceberg (so far away from where he lives)
Knuckle Joe
-Best buds with Burning Leo
-Wants to be strong
-Willing to throw hands with infants
-Thinks he’s way cooler than he actually is
-Insists on the “Knuckle” part of his name (don’t call him just “Joe”)
Burning Leo
-A lot like Knuckle Joe except more chill
-Cool kid
-Has probably committed arson at least once but he is child and doesn't know it’s a crime
-Kinda mean sometimes tbh
(Doctor) Chemitory
-Like Yabuki from the show but he actually knows what he’s doing
-Not much to him other than he nice
Birdon
-Daredevil kid
-Obsessed with Dyna Blade (who’s, like, a legend or myth here)
-Has nearly died at least seven times over the course of his life
-Energetic birb boy
Bio Spark
-Tries to be cool ninja child but he’s really just insecure
-Needs a lesson in honor
-Kinda like Knuckle Joe and Burning Leo fused into one
-Doesn’t actually know how to do ninja stuff
Gooey
-Later addition to the cast (by that I mean he becomes art of it at, like, episode 15)
-Was abandoned by the other Dark Matters ‘cus he’s defective
-Really nice and has existential crises on occasion
-Bean.
-Has a habit of licking people or things he likes. Creeps people out on occasion but he means well.
Vividria
-Adeleine’s mentor in art
-Cheerful lady
-Hasn’t seen her sisters in years (yes this comes into an episode)
-Very social and talkative
Gim
-Runs a toy store
-Acts like Dippy Fresh or something. I dunno. He is the 90s incarnate.
-Kinda annoying but at least he’s not a jerk.
-Trying to be hip with the kids ‘cus he wants to see them smile but doesn’t know how to appeal to them.
Mine
-Kine’s wife
-Doesn’t get to appear much but basically acts the way she does in the “Save the Rainbow Islands!” official novel
Nyupun
-Probably not seen much
-Possibly ChuChu’s boyfriend, maybe just her best friend, not even the wiki can decide
NESP
-Local fortune-teller
-Mysterious and kinda mischievous
-Not very social outside of business stuff
-Somehow very accurate
-Probably has a PhD in something
TAC
-Probably has a rivalry with the Squeaks
-Commits petty theft
-No one knows where he lives so he may not even be a resident of Star Town
-Loves soft, cozy things
Poppy Bros. Jr.
-Runs fireworks store with Poppy Bros Sr. (older brother) (store also sells to places outside the town. Probably would’ve gone out of business otherwise. Some places have high demands for fireworks. They have to send the orders through the mail)
-Rambunctious kid, loves to blow stuff up
-Would probably commit arson if he didn’t have a conscience… though even that may not be enough to stop him
Poppy Bros. Sr.
-Life of the party
-A lot like his little bro except more mature
-Can probably play some kind of musical instrument pretty well
(I’m hoping I didn’t forget anything. Will go over more characters next time. I wanna make all the character posts before going over the episode concepts)

TF ❤️🔥: Part 5 “Darkest Little Paradise” SOUNDTRACK
Series Playlist
Track 1 - Downhill
The song playing at the beginning, in the dining room scene...
🎶“Cause it's only downhill around here. The worst of us survive”🎶
Track 2 - All Falls Down
The song playing throughout the entire charity event...
Track 3 - Bad Things
The song playing when Rafe shows up at Y/N’s house on the balcony...
Track 4 - Adorn
The song playing as Rafe takes Y/N inside her room and “takes care of her”... 🥵🥵🥵
🎶“These lips can't wait to taste your skin, baby And these eyes, yeah, can't wait to see your grin, Just let my love adorn you You gotta know You know that I adore you Baby, these fists will always protect ya, lady And this mind, ooh, will never neglect you And they stay trying to break us down But don't let that affect us Don't you let nobody tell you different, baby I'll always adore you The same way that the stars adorn the skies The same way that my Whole world's in your eyes (when I look in your eyes, baby) Ooh, and it's time now”🎶
Track 5 - Go to Town
You already fucking know what scene this was playing during....👀😉😏🥵💦🧐
🎶“If you're down, boy, really down Baby, let me watch you go to town It's your one chance, baby, never or now, yeah Let me see you go to town, baby”🎶
Track 6 - Wave of You
The song playing when Rafe comes back to Tanneyhill the next morning...
“Whatever was happening on the surface compared little to the absolute wreckage that was happening within. The sound of you moaning his name was now permanently seared into every brain cell, constantly reverberating around his long term memory like a tidal wave, crashing through him over and over again until it wasn’t just a memory but a part of his own DNA, woven into every fiber of his being.”
“Yet as he swallowed, he let another wave crash over him and this time… it shattered him.”
Honorable Mentions:
Feel Good
“ Not even wanting to touch the surface of giving them any more power over the situation, he chokes those words down. Rafe would quite literally do anything you asked him to do right now but all he wants, the only thing on his mind, the only thing he cares about, his one goal, is to make you feel good. “
“Oh my god, R-Rafe. You feel so good–”
That’s a story for another day, a secret to share at another time as he places a deep kiss to your temple, amazed at how fucking great you both felt even though your worlds were crashing down.”
🎶“Yeah, I doubt, I doubt myself And I'm too proud to ask for help When you see me beside myself I don't have to explain it, baby Yeah, I'm over picking fights And trying to mend it with a heart Don't want to know that I'm not right I know that I've been needy, needy Yeah, sometimes I need someone to pick me up Overdose my mind with the things I love You can take me there When my heart beats When my heart beats free Take my hand in the middle of a crisis Pull me close, show me, baby, where the light is I was scared of a heart I couldn't silence But you make me, you make me feel good I like it”🎶
Ivy
🎶“My pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand I can't Stop you putting roots in my dreamland My house of stone, your ivy grows And now I'm covered in you”🎶

🌸 ballet slipper, watermelon, fuchsia, rose, coral, blossom, salmon, hibiscus, hot pink, peach syrup 🌸
omg hello friend thank u for the interrogation asks (/lh)
ballet slipper— with only one word, describe how you feel at this moment
brain.......
watermelon— have you ever had to reject anyone romantically? how did it go?
i almost typed "lmao no" but then realized how self-deprecating that sounds
anyway
no. all the boys my age in high school thought i was boring because i didn't think 2015 "bro culture" (rampant racism, homophobia, and misogyny) was clever or amusing, and i haven't had any opportunities to date since then..... thanks covid
fuchsia— describe your personality in three words!
sleepy... creative... sensitive...
rose— do you believe in soulmates? why or why not?
i'd like to! sometimes i think it's unrealistic and silly to believe there's a single perfect person for everyone (or like... more than one if ur poly, right?), but also... 🥺🥰
coral— what’s something you’re passionate about?
american girl dolls... <3 i like making little outfits and imagining personalities and also i love the books...
blossom— would you get a tattoo? if so, what would it be of?
i've considered this before. i don't think i actually would, because i tend to get antsy about things that are on/in my skin for too long, like rashes or bug bites, so i can't imagine i'd like having a tattoo forever. if i did, it would probably just be a little doodle of a critter of some kind, or maybe something geometric, but like i said...
i just think it would start weirding me out after a certain amount of time, and i'd end up scratching at it or something, except it would be permanent, so all i'd end up doing is irritating my skin... yeah, i don't think tattoos are for me 😬
salmon— would you prefer a partner who is an introvert or an extrovert? why?
ooh, i genuinely don't know! i can see the appeal of both, honestly.
hibiscus— what’s your favorite pet name, if any? why?
like to use, or to be called? idk... the only pet name experience i have is my parents coming up with a thousand different nicknames for me ever since i was a little kid 😂
idk, maybe "sweetheart" or "love" or smth.
hot pink— what’s your favorite relationship trope?
hm........ "friends to lovers", "didn't realize they were dating", "they share the brain cell" and "they're married, your honor"
peach syrup— have you ever had an internet crush on a mutual on this app or another app?
maybe? i don't know if i'd call them crushes, though, or like... squishes

you know what, I never do these things, but actually I’ve decided I would like to get to know people better! I would like to partake of the mortifying ordeal! I would like to talk about myself for a bit!
ok for the next...let’s say five days I will answer any of these things that people tag me in, or any random personal questions you plop in my ask box. I don’t have an ask meme on hand but just....pick one you’ve seen recently, or make up questions of your own, and I’ll answer. (the answer might be ‘nope that’s private’ but I will answer.) (@ the anon who asked for book recs - I see you, I’ve been thinking of books all day, I’m going to give you SUCH a long answer, I hope you don’t regret your choices bc it WILL be full of gushing)
alright, let’s go!
🌻 Tag 9 people you want to get to know better
Tagged by @booksandchainmail
Last Song: I’m currently listening to “Falcon in the Dive” from the Scarlet Pimpernel musical on loop. I watched one or two Scarlet Pimpernel movies when I was just barely too young to fully get what was going on, and the story’s held an odd but deep-seated place in my heart ever since. A few years ago I found out there’s a musical and most of the songs are pretty stellar (go listen to “Madame Guillotine” if you like big ensemble broadway numbers, it’s a banger, the bit where he cries out for God has been running through my mind on and off for a few days now haha not like that’s topical or anything), so every once in a while I spend a few days listening to them a lot.
Sometime last year I read the actual book, and got super into the whole concept of the Scarlet Pimpernel for a while. I plotted out Pimpernel aus for several fandoms, I read the entire wikipedia article, and I went looking for bootlegs of the musical. I didn’t find one, but I did find a full radioplay-style recording of the script, complete with full musical numbers, and listened to it like a podcast.
Reader, I was so disappointed. The play adds some scenes, bc a lot of the dramatic tension of the novel comes from internal conflict and that doesn’t stage super well, and the very first scene of this play – a play written in the NINETIES – features our dashing hero rescuing some aristocrats from a French prison, and then saying to the person in the next cell, who begs for rescue but is not an aristocrat, “We have enough of your kind in England.”
Enough! of your KIND! What in the merry frickety HECK my dudes!! The book has some rather unfortunate™ takes but it is from 1905, it’s regrettable but sadly to be expected. This play is from 1997. It has NO excuse. This scene wasn’t even in the book! What! the heck!
I was so disheartened that I lost my excitement for the play, and a couple songs later I stopped listening. It occurred to me just a few days ago that you could actually stage that ironically, with the person in the cell giving the audience a “can you believe this” look, and then the rest of the play could feature assorted non-aristocratic ensemble members constantly looking at the audience like they’re on The Office. And hey, maybe that’s what they did, or something similar – maybe that was never meant to be taken as a cleanly heroic stance, and the play deals with it in a complex way. It’s possible. I wouldn’t know. Kinda doubt it though, based on song lyrics.
Favorite Color: red, probably
Last Movie: I watched that new lesbian christmas movie with my family for christmas, the one with kirsten stewart and the guy from schitt’s creek. it’s very sweet and good and kinda sad, and I really enjoyed it. it also incidentally has the best gay best friend trope in probably anything ever, bc it’s not a trope (I didn’t realize until several hours after watching that it technically fits), it’s just a guy who is the protagonist’s best friend, and they’re just all gay, and then when he Gives Relationship Advice as a gay best friend always does, it’s advice about how to deal with your partner’s hangups around coming out.
actually every part of the gay best friend trope becomes better when they’re just best friends who are both gay. the big dramatic gestures (in this case, driving some ungodly distance in the snow on no notice) go from “haha how kooky” to “queer man will do anything he needs to to rescue his queer friend from an isolating & potentially triggering situation”. the relationship advice isn’t “honey you deserve some self-respect, treat yourself”, it’s a deeply sincere reminder of the vulnerability that is shared across almost everyone’s queer experience, and look I could ramble about this for a long time before reaching a coherent point but I’m INTO IT, okay? I’m into it.
Last Show: you want me to remember what show I last finished???? impossible, cannot be done, it was a long time ago and the adhd has eaten everything that happened before last week. here, instead I’ll tell you about another movie I watched, late at night with my mom in cozy companionship just a couple days ago. it’s called Quigley Down Under and it’s about a cowboy who goes to Australia and kills a bunch of racists, 10/10 would watch again. it’s from 1990 but it feels much older, with the music choices and the cinematography of a 70s Western. the cowboy is great, honorable and fearless and kind, but the breakaway star of this movie for me is the woman who attaches herself to his side and refuses to leave. her name is Cora, and she’s crazy, in the sense that she’s not altogether tethered to reality, but this never for a second diminishes her agency. she’s fierce and clever and compassionate, and she basically never does anything she doesn’t want to in the whole movie. her arc is about overcoming trauma by taking charge of her own fear and facing it head-on, she is never belittled or dismissed by the narrative or the protagonist, and look she’s just so cool. I love her. she’s so vibrantly alive. her story could probably have been handled with a bit more nuance, but honestly for the 90s it’s pretty great. I’m no expert, but I found nothing objectionable in it, just a bit of heavy-handedness.
anyway the theme of the movie is that racism is evil and racists deserve to be shot, and this too could have been handled better (not a single aboriginal character speaks a single line of english in this movie), but it follows through on that message in every way, while still being a fun kinda campy cowboy movie. overall a very good time.
Currently Watching: started showing my sister Hilda the other day, and she’s liking it! I love that show, it’s so incredibly cute. can’t wait to see season 2
Currently Reading: lmao I wish. lately the brain has firmly rejected all attempts to read anything of any length. currently pending, bc I was halfway through them when my brain stalled out, are tano’s fic What Does Kill You Can Make You Stronger, Too, a Toby Daye book - I think it was The Brightest Fell, I got like half a chapter in and haven’t picked it up in over a month, the Locked Tomb series, and probably a few other things too. ooh! also a book called Making Sex by thomas laqueur, which is my fancy academic reading that I’ve been doing in short bursts for the past year or two when I feel fancy and academic. it’s about the development of the concept of biological sex and of gender in Western society, and it’s fascinating. has among other things introduced me to the idea that until quite recently, fathers were a matter of faith. the mother? yeah, you can watch the baby pop out, we all know who the mother is. but the father? how can you know? how can you really know? we have paternity tests these days, but for all of human history up until now, we've just had to take fatherhood on faith. (not to mention we didn’t even know what fathers were contributing to the production of a fetus. clearly it was something, since you can’t get pregnant without a penis getting involved, but we have literally not known what until the past few decades. and that is wild. it has colored ALL of human history, all of our conceptions of society and family and kinship and gender, all of it, and it hadn’t even occurred to me until it was spelled out for me in this book, and it’s just......wow.
Salty, sweet or savory: for christmas my sister and I made seven different types of cookie, most of them involving chocolate somehow.
Craving: no bc I ate so many cookies. unless sleep counts. or maybe pringles, it’s been many moons since last I had a potato chip and I miss them.
Coffee or Tea: no thank you
Tagging: @coloursisee, @krchy-tuna, @sam-j-squirrel, @xzienne, @mirandatam, @viciousmaukeries, @sepulchritude, @elidyce, and @navigatorsnorth bc it’s been a while since we’ve talked, and I’m super hyped that you’re married now. v happy for you!
#finx rambles#finx has friends on the internet#be sure to tag me if you do this so I can go read it!#also you don't have to yammer on as much as I do#I'm just Like This you know#hmm perhaps I should readmore this actually#hmmmmmmm#I think I will use the excuse that it is 6 am to not do that#on account of how surely there are not many people up#and anyway this isn't meant for reblogging; you will only have to deal with this post once

Best Friends With Inosuke
A/N: I’m on a car ride and decided to work on some drafts. Typing this on my phone so I’m sorry if the formatting looks wonky.
These are GENDER NEUTRAL, and reader is very similar to Inosuke personality-wise.
I’m not too familiar with KnY yet but in this house we stan ManBoarPig so let’s gooooo
How y’all meet:
You chucklefucks meet in the woods near the butterfly estate when the gang is checking around for any potential threats.
Rumors have been going around about some suspicious humanoid making an appearance every now and then. Preparing for the worst, they decided to go investigate, and slice up some demons if need be.
They’re about to head back when they hear rustling from the trees above, and some screaming.
Cautiously, the three of them draw their blades and follow the noise. They end up below a wisteria tree, and see what looks like a person bouncing on the branch.
youtube
“Well, I don’t think it’s a demon”, Zenitsu mutters. No sooner does he say that does he hear the mystery person holler again, only this time it’s a full sentence.
“EAT MY ASS DEMONS!”
Yup- definitely not a demon.
Your head pops out, and you’re hanging upside down on a branch coming face to face with...a boar’s head?
You: 🙃
Inosuke: 👁👄👁
The trio is too stunned to do anything for several seconds before the branch snaps and you scream, falling on your back.
It hurts too much to move, so you just kinda lay there like a helpless turtle. Zenitsu is panicking, asking if you were okay, but you were just vibing on the forest floor.
Suddenly, you just start laughing at the events that just happened, trying to reassure the orange one that yes, you were fine, and falling out of trees was a pretty normal thing for you.
You catch your breath after a good chuckle, moving to sit up when your face contorts, wincing at the sharp pain that shoots through your spine.
Tanjiro’s brain immediately shifts into Mother Hen mode, and before you can protest you’re being hauled back to the estate with them.
You end up staying there for a while, and when you healed up a little bit more, you start training with the trio as a form of physical therapy.
Inosuke rarely tired out, and didn’t hold back, so you came to form a mutual respect with the feral boy. He was by far your favorite sparring partner, and a strong camaraderie was quickly forged between you two.
You eventually began tagging along for missions, and you loved how you could kick ass while still being your usual chaotic self.
The two of you were so much alike it was almost uncanny. You become a permanent member of their motley crew, and the rest is history.
Friendship:
All I can say is...poor Tanjiro. Boi will probably be gray by 20 at this rate.
Zenitsu is wary around just one of you guys at a time.
But as one unit? He’s fucking terrified.
As a result, he ends up your primary target for pranks and shenanigans.
You and Inosuke both share no more than half a braincell at any given moment.
When one has some crackpot scheme cooked up, the other only eggs them on to go through with it. Nobody is ever the “impulse control”
If you’ve never been subject to ✨peer pressure✨ are you really friends?
Bad ideas are the best stories, as you always said.
“I found a branch on the ground! Let’s go play hornet piñata!”
“Only if you remember to keep your eyes closed this time!”
Needless to say, you both ended up back at the butterfly estate to be patched up and they were not happy.
Sometimes, you guys play this game called “Hard Head”. It is exactly what it sounds like.
Spoiler alert: you guys run at each other from a distance and head butt each other as hard as you can.
The winner is the one who does the most damage/sends their opponent furthest away from the set area.
Comparing scars and bruises like badges of honor, exchanging stories and laughter? Hell yeah.
You guys were both stubborn and wild, so arguments are inevitable. Usually over stupid, childish things.
In times like these, violence usually was the answer (much to Tanjiro’s chagrin).
You guys would duke it out until one or both of you got tired, or simply forgot what you were upset about.
Because let’s face it, neither of you even really have the attention span or the patience to hold a grudge for very long.
If there’s anything else you guys have in common (besides exactly 1/2 a brain cell between you), it would most likely be your appetites.
It didn’t matter who cooked it or what was being served- if it was edible, you two were anything but picky.
You’re both messy and rambunctious at the table, and the rest of the gang has low key sorta given up on trying to get you guys to be civilized during meal time.
You know that thing where you take a magnifying glass and set ants on fire? You guys try to do that and the ONLY reason nothing ends in disaster is because neither of you can stop giggling long enough to hold it totally still.
It just starts smoking a bit and y’all...lose it. You’re like a couple of school girls.
Inosuke is your ride or die, and the two of you could easily form a very small gang with how close you are.
You guys have each other’s backs on the battlefield and off it. If one goes down, the other is up and ready to avenge, no matter how beaten down they may be. You’re the only ones allowed to beat each other up 😤👏
When Inosuke is out of commission, you’re right by his bedside, and the others have to practically drag you away so you can actually do things like eat, sleep, or use the bathroom.
Your company helps him get his fighting spirit back, and before you know it the Dumbass Duo is back in business.
You guys may be stupid, but even you understand that a bond like yours is hard to come by. You and Inosuke were both powerful and strong on your own, but both of you together? Definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x reader
Word Count: 2.9k 😳
Summary: Aaron and reader get married 🥺 Part 6 to Begin Again
Warnings: None, although I did make myself cry on several occasions
Author’s Note: it’s wedding time, folks. A thought both @yes-sir-hotchner and I had. (We share the same brain cell 😂) Inspired by a post from the wonderful @agenthotchner.
Previous chapter Next Chapter
Masterlist
It had been just a few short months since Aaron’s surprise proposal, after which the two of you had made a mutual decision to get married as soon as possible. The team had been delighted by the news, Penelope immediately jumping into full maid of honor mode. Rossi, being the most caring and generous friend out there, had insisted on taking care of everything and wouldn’t take no for an answer; even going so far as to offer his house for the venue.
Sitting in a luxurious upstairs room of the Rossi home, and being doted upon by your friends, you couldn’t help but feel a little like a princess for the first time since you couldn’t remember when. The day was finally here that you officially got to spend forever with the man of your dreams. Even after all this time, sometimes it still felt too good to be true.
Gazing out an open window, you could see backyard where the ceremony was to be held in just a few short hours and your heart began to race. You were snapped back to the present moment by the sound of your best friend’s voice.
“Earth to Y/N! Come in, Y/N!” She said, waving her hands in front of your face.
“I’m sorry, I got distracted. What was the question?”
“Your lipstick hon, what color?”
“Whatever color you think is best, Penny. I trust you to make me look beautiful.”
“You always look beautiful,” chimes in a voice from across the room.
“Thank you, Emily.”
Penelope finished off your makeup with waterproof mascara and JJ stepped in to put the final touches on your hair with delicate pearl hairpins.
As the hours passed and the final preparations were made, you could feel the nerves building.
Penelope, Emily, and JJ all helped you into your dress; a beautiful white gown with off the shoulder lace sleeves, a fitted lace covered bodice, and lace trim around the bottom of the full skirt. You were truly a sight to behold. Buttoning up the back of the gown, JJ asks, “You’ve been pretty quiet, Y/N. Is everything okay?”
“It’s just nerves, I think.” you reply. “I’d really like to see Aaron.”
“See Aaron before the wedding?” Penelope interjects, “You can’t! It’s bad luck!”
You knew there was no arguing with her and your spirits sank a little, disappointment written all over your face.
“What if we got Jack instead?” Offers JJ. “Would that help?”
Thinking it over, you give a small smile and a nod. “Yes, I think I’d like that. Thank you, JJ.”
“I’ll call Morgan and have them come up.”
Five minutes later, a knock at the door.
“I’ll get it,” you say, opening it before anyone can protest.
There stands Derek Morgan with the boy you’ve come to love as your own.
“You look amazing,” says Morgan taking in the sight of you with wide eyes. “Hotch is a lucky man.”
“Thank you, Derek.” You reply, giving him a tight hug. Pulling back and taking him by the hand, you make a request. “Will you tell him that I love him, and that I’ll see him soon?”
“Anything for you, lovely,” he says with a playful grin.
“You’re a good friend, Derek.”
With that, he retreats back downstairs to deliver your message, leaving Jack with you. Just having him there was already soothing your frayed nerves. Ushering him inside you ask, “How’s my handsome ring bearer? You’re not nervous are you?”
“No! I’m gonna do a great job, I promise! You look real pretty, just like a princess.”
“You are so sweet, little man. I know you’ll do amazing.”
“Y/N?”
“What is it, Jack?” You inquire, kneeling down to his level.
“Can I call you mom now?”
The question took you quite by surprise, causing tears to well up in your eyes.
“Do you want to?”
“Yeah, if it’s okay with you. I miss having a mom.”
Those few words are enough to break the dam and tears began to stream as you pulled the boy in for a hug. “Of course it’s okay with me.” you manage to choke out.
“Mom! Mom!” Jack squeaks.
“Yeah buddy?”
“You’re squeezing me too hard, I can’t breathe.”
Loosening your grip, you apologize.
“Don’t cry, everything’s gonna be okay,” Jack says reassuringly. Man, he is so much like his father.
“I’m crying because I’m happy, Jack. I just love you and your dad so much.”
“I love you too, Mama.”
“I hate to break up this sweet family moment,” Penelope cuts in, “But it’s almost time to get this show on the road. Jack I’ll take you back down to your dad.” Handing you a tissue, she makes her exit.
Emily and JJ sweep the room making sure nothing is left behind. “We’ve got to go,” says JJ, grabbing Emily by the arm and making her way to the door. “You look perfect, Rossi should be up soon. Love you.”
Sitting down for a moment, you gently pat your eyes dry. At least your mascara held up. In the quiet it finally began to sink in how all your wildest dreams were coming to life right before you eyes.
When the door opened again, there was Dave. Handing over your bouquet of pink roses he asks, “You ready for this, kid?”
“Absolutely,” you reply with a childlike grin.
He offers his arm and you rest your hand in the crook of his elbow, infinitely grateful for the fatherly presence.
“Then let’s get this party started.”
As the two of you arrived downstairs at the back door, you hear the processional music already playing. Luckily you had made it just in time for Rossi to give Jack his official ring-bearing instructions.
“Alright Jack. You know what to do. Just walk straight down to the end and give the rings to Derek. Then you can sit down with your Aunt Jess, okay?”
“Got it,” says Jack, giving a thumbs up.
“Go get ‘em kid,” Rossi encourages, opening the door.
Now it’s just the two of you left indoors. Rossi watches until Jack finishes his assigned duty and makes his way back to you as the music changes.
“That’s our cue,” he states, once again offering his arm.
——————————————————————————
Aaron hadn’t been nervous at all until that moment. When the music changed and the guests stood in preparation for your entrance, his hands began to shake.
“You alright, man?” Morgan inquires.
“Yeah, I’m just ready to have Y/N by my side.”
Just as he turned back from the short conversation, the double doors swung open and you made your entrance.
With the first glimpse of your radiant smile, he was immediately overwhelmed with emotion and moved to tears. Only somewhat managing to regain his composure, he took in every detail as you approached. The delicate lace of your gown, the afternoon sun making a halo of light on his own personal angel. A bouquet of perfect pink roses, just like the ones he had given you after your rudely interrupted second date. Time seemed to slow down, the walk that was in reality only a couple of minutes stretched into ages as he longed to have you near.
Then when your eyes finally met his with a look of pure love, all was right with the world.
At the end of the aisle, Rossi turns to you with one simple request.
“Take good care of our man.”
“I will,” you promise, giving the older man a kiss on the cheek before joining Aaron at the altar. Producing a handkerchief, you gently dried the remaining tears from his ever handsome face.
“Hey You,” he intones softly, hand grazing the side of your face. “I’ve been waiting for you.”
The rest of the world seems to fade away as the minister begins the service and the two of you are lost in each other’s eyes.
“The couple have chosen to write their own vows,” the minister states, snapping you both back to attention. “Y/N?”
Softly clearing your throat and looking deep into Aaron’s warm brown eyes, you begin.
“Aaron, If someone had told me over a year ago that I would be marrying a man that I met on a blind date set up by my best friend, I would have said that they were crazy. I had all but given up on finding true love. I went anyway. And everyday since, I thank God that I did. If it hadn’t been for that blind date, I would have never met the love of my life. I would have never met the most amazing group of friends that turned into family, who are standing by our sides even now. I would have never gained the most wonderful, loving little boy who I now get the privilege of calling my son. I promise that I will love both of you always. I promise that I will always be there, no matter how difficult the road becomes. And if you must venture into the darkness, I promise to always bring you back to the light”
Sniffling back tears, and taking a moment to gather his thoughts, Aaron speaks.
“Y/N, the long road that led me to you was full of heartache. When I met you, all of that changed for the better. Everyone says that I’m lucky to have you, but to be honest, I don’t feel lucky. I feel blessed. Every day with you is a blessing and a gift. There’s not a day that I’m not thankful for every pain and every heartache that I’ve been through, because without that journey, I would never have made it here to you. I’m not sure how it’s possible, but I fall a little more in love with you every day. When I’m finished with a long case, your arms feel like home. You’re the comfort for my weary soul when the world gets rough. I promise to spend the rest of my days loving you and hoping that it amounts to even a fraction of what you’ve shown to me.”
When you both looked up, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Morgan hands Aaron the velvet pillow and you quickly exchange rings, suddenly anxious for the upcoming part of the ceremony.
The voice of the minister rings out once again.
“By the power vested in me by the state of Virginia, I now pronounce you husband and wife! Aaron, you may kiss your bride.”
Cheers rang out from the crowd as he pulled you in for a long, warm kiss. Probably too long for a wedding, but with the heart-stopping heat that clouded your minds, neither of you cared much.
As you come up for air, Aaron literally sweeps you off your feet, carrying you to the reception area. As you wait for the guests to make their way over, it finally sinks in. You’re finally married to your one true love.
As soon as the guests are all seated, dinner is served. Then before you could even blink, it’s time for speeches. Penelope taps her glass with a fork, capturing the attention of the room.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate two of our favorite people on the joyous occasion of their marriage. I would like to remind everyone that this is all my doing. If I hadn’t taken the liberty of setting these two sweet little lovebirds up on a blind date, we probably wouldn’t be here today. You’re welcome,” she says turning to face the two of you. “But in all seriousness, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.”
Handing the mic over to Rossi, Penelope is seated.
“Where do I start?” He laughs. “I’ve known Aaron probably longer than anyone here. He’s always been more than just a good man. He is a loyal friend, and a great dad for Jack. If anyone in the world deserves true happiness, it’s this guy,” he says, placing a hand your husband’s shoulder. “We’ve seen your relationship with Y/N flourish and come to love her as one of our own. I can confidently say that she will a loving mother, and a caring, patient wife. I wish every blessing for the both of you from this moment forward.”
Rising from your seats to hug your two friends, you’re reminded by Penelope that’s time for your first dance. Taking you gently by the hand, Aaron leads you to the middle of the empty dance floor. With everyone watching your heart begins to race until Aaron pulls you close. The nerves melt away as you rest your head on his chest and his arms circle your waist. The two of you sway softly as the music begins:
We could leave the Christmas lights up ‘til January
This is our place, we make the rules
And there’s a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you, dear
Have I known you 20 seconds, or 20 years?
As the song goes continues and you look into his eyes so full of love, you can’t help but sing along.
Can I go where you go?
Can we always be this close
Forever and ever?
Take me out, and take me home.
You’re my, my, my, my.... Lover.
Listening to the words you’re singing, he can’t help but fall in love all over.
My heart’s been borrowed and your has been blue
All’s well that ends well to end up with you
Swear to be overdramtic and true to my.... Lover
You pour you heart out in song, desperately hoping that Aaron knows how much you mean every word. He does. The sincerity is written all over your lovely face.
As the music slowly winds down, the guest begin to join the two of you on the dance floor.
Tapping Aaron on the shoulder, Rossi cuts in for his turn. You manage to dance with everyone, even Reid, reluctant though he may be. The whole team was having a great time, laughing and dancing when Penelope had to slip back into maid of honor mode. Grabbing both you and Aaron by the wrist she all but drags you to the table.
Approaching the cake, you grab the slicer with your right hand. Pressing closely against your back and giving you a soft kiss on the cheek, Aaron covers your hand with his. After cutting two small slices, you turn to face each other. Taking a piece in hand you raise it to Aaron and he opens his mouth just before you smear it across his unsuspecting face.
Closing his eyes and trying hard not to laugh, he responds.
“Oh so that’s how it’s gonna be, huh?”
“Yep!” you tease gleefully. “What are you gonna do about it, Mister?”
“This!” He exclaims, returning the favor and smashing the cake in your face.
“Really should have seen that one coming,” you muse.
“Yeah you should have.”
At that moment he pulls you close, pressing his soft lips to yours for the sweetest kiss ever known to mankind and the room burts into a fresh round of cheers.
The two of you scurried off to get cleaned up, and when you make your return, Penelope is waiting with your next task. A car is waiting to take you to the airport for your honeymoon. It’s time to go.
You make your rounds saying goodbye as everyone makes their way out for your final exit. One last song comes on as you make your way out and Aaron holds you close, singing in his perfect deep voice as you stroll through thrown confetti:
I was a boat stuck in a bottle
That never got the chance to touch the sea
But I came to life when I first kissed you
The best me has his arms around you
You make me better than I was before
Thank God I’m yours
The worst me is just a long gone memory
You put a new heartbeat inside of me
You make me better than I was before
Thank God I’m yours
By the time you made it to car and sat down you were in tears for probably the tenth time that night, you’d lost count.
The car was just about to pull away when Emily sprinted up to the door. Leaning down, she spoke to both of you.
“Hey you crazy kids, have fun! And remember, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!”
“Emily there’s nothing you wouldn’t do,” returns Aaron, catching you by surprise.
“Exactly,” she replies, slamming the door and slapping the roof of the car. You could have sworn you saw a wink.
As the car pulls away, the two of you get your first truly private moment of the night to process what just happened.
Snuggled close to Aaron’s left side, your head rests on his chest and his left arm drapes around your shoulder.
“We’re married,” you state, reaching to touch the gold band on his left ring finger.
“Yes we are,” he whispers, softly pressing a kiss to your temple.
“You’re my husband,”
“Uh huh,” he agrees, gently stroking your hair.
Looking up into his gorgeous face you confess once more, “I love you, Aaron Hotchner.”
After a slight pause, he replies with a smirk,
“I love you more.... Mrs. Hotchner.”

Guarded Hearts and Safe Houses (Leonardo x Reader) Chapter 7/9
Rated: T
Gender Neutral Reader, canon typical violence/injury, light angst, strangers to lovers, supportive family.
for @melodiousmelodrama
The blood drains from your face. You feel light-headed and unsteady on your feet. “Are my… are my…”
Donnie’s eyes lock on yours. “Raph’s there with Mikey. Everyone’s OK,” he says, but it brings little relief. “Your parents were at a charity function for the hospital.”
“And Gram?” Your throat’s gone so dry, you can barely get the question out.
“At the neighbors’.”
A shaky breath passes through your lips as you wrap your arms around yourself.
Leo stalks the mat as he thinks aloud. “This was a targeted attack. Their numbers might not be what we projected. But they didn’t get what they came for - hostages or us. They’ll be back. We have to get the humans to a secure location.”
Your thoughts extend beyond the safety of your family. “You have to protect the apartment building.”
“Yes.” Leo gives a sharp nod. “We have to defend the city. They’ll strike the building again. We can set up a base of operations somewhere close. Keep a lookout.” He whips out his phone and calls his brothers. “Mikey, sweep the area for somewhere to set up a base. Prepare for another attack.”
Mikey’s voice carries over the speaker. “You got it, bro.”
“Donnie,” Leo commands, “get us ready to move out. Whatever we need. Devices to track their signature, that new bo you’ve been working on. Anything else you got that might help against these guys. We’ve never been up against something like this before. We’re gonna need every advantage we can get.”
“The new weapons? But I thought you said...” Donatello rises to his full height at his brother’s nod of approval. “Of course, Leo. It’d be my honor to supply the team with new hardware. To be used in tandem with our traditional weapons, of course.”
Leo urges him, “Go!” and Donnie heads out at a sprint.
When Leo turns to you, you’re having trouble catching your breath. Tears cloud your vision and the lump in your throat makes it hard to speak.
“This is my fault,” Leo says by way of apology. “I shouldn’t have let my feelings distract me. Your family should have never been in danger.”
You understand now. How being a distraction to him is dangerous. The world depends on him. Tending to you, indulging you, led to this.
You believed his fears and insecurity about being vulnerable, showing weakness, were baseless. But leaving the city open to attack, leaving your family at risk… it isn’t worth whatever feelings stir in your chest when you think of him.
You’d rather have him and everyone else safe, than to be selfish. This isn’t him choosing to ignore you, this is him choosing to save the world.
When you return to your family home, Leo kneels before your parents and Gram. “I have dishonored you, failed you. I know my words are not enough, but I hope you will allow me to defend you and your home. I will not fail you again. On my honor. On my life.”
Your father, filled with fear, sputters before leaving the room. You know him, he doesn’t put the blame on the turtles, not really. But he doesn’t have anywhere else to direct his feelings of anger, fear, and confusion. Not yet.
Leo appeals to the women as they remain. “I allowed my mind to be clouded by distraction. It will not happen again. I devote my life to ninja and to your protection.”
His apologies hurt more than you thought they would, know you’re the distraction of which he speaks. Though you came to that same conclusion less than an hour ago, hearing it from his lips ties your stomach in knots.
“It’s time for you to go,” you find yourself saying. “You being here puts a bigger target on us, doesn’t it?”
Leo nods and stands.
“Then, go save the city, Leo. We won’t stand in your way as distractions anymore.”
Leo’s face twists in pain before his emotions slip behind the wall he builds so well. He heads for the window and you close it behind him with more force than necessary.
Once he’s gone, you try not to think of him. Your family needs you. They’re shaken and confused. And you don’t have all of the answers, but you have faith in the brothers. You have to believe they can fight this threat to the city. You have to believe they can win.
The Krang don’t attack again that day. Or that week. And a lookout returns to the roof. But it’s Leo and you won’t go up there. You don’t want to talk to him and it’s clear he doesn’t want you around.
But being in the apartment, unable to spend time on your rooftop escape, is making you stir crazy. You do get little drop ins from the other guys, sometimes right before their patrol.
Raphael will stop in to see Gram, ask about a new stitch he’s working on for his latest yarn project - a blanket for Mikey. A birthday present the young turtle isn’t supposed to know about.
Donatello dropped in to give you a secure phone so you could contact them in case of an emergency. “Or, you know, if you ever just want to talk about life, the universe, and everything.”
Mikey leaves you horoscopes, but it’s bittersweet. He doesn’t stick around to explain what he thinks they mean.
You convince yourself you’ve gotten over Leo, that the reason you spend more time looking at his horoscope than the others is because he’s the one perched on your roof and if the horoscope is predicting bad news for him then that translates into bad news for you, for your family, for your building. And you need to be prepared. You are absolutely not looking for any clues in regard to his feelings for you, any clues as to when you can expect him to knock on the window and apologize for pushing you away. When you can expect him to announce he’s come up with a way for you to be a boon to their cause instead of the distraction he’s determined you to be.
When the Krang launches an attack on Times Square, it’s all over the news. People are frantic. The city is in chaos. And you don’t know what to do. There’s no way off the island - and though you’d like your family to get to New Jersey, to get somewhere safely out of the way, you don’t even think of leaving yourself.
You and Leo haven't spoken to each other in over a week and you have no idea how he’s been handling everything. The guys haven’t given many clues. Mikey’s horoscopes are too vague to understand without his interpretations.
You know Leo holds so much inside, not wanting to burden his brothers with more than what he thinks they can handle. Why doesn’t he realize that if he trusted other people to share the burden, it’d be easier for everyone to carry? His brothers wouldn’t be as worried about him and all four of them would be better prepared to handle whatever dangers are to come.
You kiss your parents and Gram goodbye and head south toward Times Square. They know where you’re going. They don’t try to stop you. Mother straps a pack full of medical supplies to your back and squishes your face before you go. “I would be right beside you,” she says, then casts a meaningful look at Gram and Father.
The city is madness. The streets, which you thought would be teeming with people running for cover, are empty. Everyone who could find shelter has found it. Those who couldn't, well, they don't need shelter anymore.
You charge through the streets on foot, sure the subways are out of order. There are no cabs to take you, no clear streets to drive through even if there was a vehicle to drive.
You duck behind an abandoned news stand as a disembodied brain alien floats past. You peek through the rows of magazines to see it's not the only one. There must be a dozen krang moving down the streets. They don't seem to be looking for anything, led by an unseen force.
You startle when you feel a large, cool hand close over your mouth and nose. "Don' scream, a’right?" You'd recognize Raph's voice anywhere.
The tension in your shoulders eases up, but only a little.
"Your supposed t’ be hitchin’ a ride with Don. Gettin' the hell outta here with Gram and ya parents."
You pry Raph's hand from your face and gasp for air. The dude really doesn't realize just how massive his hand is. "I'm not leaving. I can help."
You notice the gash on his arm, and without hesitation, you swing your backpack off of one shoulder and around to your chest. It takes only a few seconds for you to fish out antiseptic spray and a roll of gauze. You patch him up efficiently. And Rapahel grunts. It's about as much thanks as you could hope to get while he's focused on the fight.
"Told you. I can help. Get back out there. Is anyone else hurt?"
"Bout a few thousand New Yorkers." Raph’s brow furrows and his eyes look haunted. It only lasts a moment before he shakes his head and shifts his frown to a grimace. “These slimeballs fucked with the wrong city.”
You look around at the First Responders on the scene. "What about your brothers?"
"Why dontcha ask 'em yourself?" he asks as he scans the area for any sign of those things .
You grab the secure cell from your pocket and dial the open line to the turtles. "Mikey. You alright?"
"Hey! What's shakin'?" Mikey’s greeting is casual and bright, even amid bedlam.
"You sound winded."
"I'm kinda in the middle of something,” he explains, and you can hear the thuds and shuffling of a brawl. “Can I call you back? Later? Oof. A lot later? Yow! That's my good side, dude!"
In spite of everything, he manages to make you smile. "Where's Leo?"
A gruff voice joins the line. Deep and calm. “I’m right here.” Mikey’s channel cuts out and the background falls silent. Leo has found somewhere quiet to talk. "Where are you?"
Raph leans toward the phone to answer for you. "Wit me."
There’s shock in his voice, confusion and concern. "You're supposed to be with Donnie."
"Well, I'm-"
"Helpin', alright?” Raphael defends. “Got a little banged up over here. Glad I had someone on my side t' patch me up.”
You smile at him and he shoves your shoulder a bit before smiling back. And you were wrong, your first impression of him… that his snarl couldn't be improved by a smile, because when Raph smiles it really does light up his face. Softens his edges.
It's like the rare occasion when Mikey lets himself get lost monologuing about his interests - before he catches himself and hopes that you aren't upset by his enthusiasm.
You've only seen Donnie smile like that once. Carefree.
But you've never seen Leo wear a carefree smile. Not ever. Maybe something tight lipped. Or something fond. Sad. Leo’s smiles hold secrets and burdens. His shoulders hold responsibility. There isn't a carefree bone in his body. He holds the weight of the world on his shell. And try as he might to hide the toll it takes on him, his brothers can see he can’t do it alone.
"Fine,” Leo concedes. “Stay with Raph."
"We're comin' to you, brutha."
"Wait where you are- No!" There's a thud and a gasp and Leo gives a shout of pain before the line goes dead.

radiant ⤖ han jisung

one.
College.
That specific morifying seven-letter word can literally make someone jump off a cliff. Like straight up, Lucifer would rather drink and bathe himself in holy water than to join one of the world's most traumatizing systems. Where knowledge is being drilled into people's mind like a tattoo, and it's not even a cute one, one that you most likely will regret later.
Man, what a life.
After highschool, most people thought they were ready, physically and mentally. That's not true. Did you really think that you're ready for monotonous lectures, for back-to-back assignments with ridiculous deadlines, for cramming forty slides of the PowerPoint presentation from your professor the night before an exam just because your brain cells decided to say 'fuck it' in the middle of the lecture ?
No one's ever ready for living to torture themselves.
Not even Hwang Hyunjin. Hyunjin, the boy you grew up having him right by your window. Hyunjin, that one kid in class who would always hand people his homework whenever they asked for it. He's too kind for this world, for his own good, you often say that to yourself but Hyunjin isn't really all that great.
He too takes pain in turning in assignments to the T.A and dreads his 9am classes tremendously. But, since he's got a rich ass uncle who has some spare apartments lying somewhat near college ( as long as he preserves the place and invites someone over to help paying the bills ), he doesn't have to deal with the struggles of living on campus.
And you, just happen to have the honor to live with him. Well, more like temporarily to see how things will work out later. You despise living on campus anyway.
"What's with the long face ? Did Minho ramble about his cats again instead of working ?" Hyunjin walks into the living room before dropping his keys into the gold-accent bowl that he previously purchased from a garage sale. It's quite convenient, actually, the keys never end up under the couch or some random drawers again.
You look up from your laptop screen, sparing him a glare and focusing back on your assignment. Being a media major is equivalent to taking lots of notes and a shit ton of reading which is a pain in the ass. Meanwhile, a theatre kid like your roommate has his midterms and finals as setting up plays for school's events. Pfft, privileged people.
You don't hate-hate the idea of going to school like some people, in fact, you genuinely love learning, but you're in desperate need of another word for 'child labour' to be applied to this ... situation.
"Ohoho.. It's way worse, trust me, you don't wanna know." You lean your head sideways on one of the pillows, words slightly slurred with your cheek being pressed against the soft surface.
Hyunjin raises his voice from the kitchen area. "Did he confess his love for you or something ?"
"Jesus no ! You know he's not into me like that." You almost screech and sit straight up. "We were supposed to finish our project that's due this Friday. And guess who else was there ? Another chick showed up ! I swear that I wasn't hallucinating, he brought a new one home every other day. She said she was just 'a friend'." You make the quote-on-quote sign with your fingers to emphasize.
You pull on your own hair dramatically with all your might, hissing under your breath just by recalling it. "And whenever we had a twenty-minute break every hour and a half or so, she keeps brushing herself against him, acting all innocent about it. I was deadass pissed off—"
"Woah woah, I don't think it's that—"
You throw your hands in the air helplessly, suppressing the urge to throw a tantrum. "It is that bad, Hyunjin ! The chick doesn't know how to take a fucking hint !" Whatever, Hyunjin is probably too tired to wait for you to finish complaining about some random classmate drooling over Minho because they do that all the time anyway.
"Damn." He sips on his apple juice. "I should come over next time. Might be a not-so-shitty, watered-down version of 'Fifty Shades of Grey'."
You shoot him a glare, closing your laptop shut. "I instantly regret moving in with you."
"Why ?" Hyunjin pouts and plops himself next to you on the beige-colored couch. He reaches for the remote on the coffee table while obnoxiously sipping on the box of juice.
"Because apparently, you love weird, gross, mushy noises as much as Minho does." You answer flatly, burying yourself deeper into the white fuzzy blanket. Actually, no. Living with Hyunjin isn't as bad as you're trying to make it sound.
He might not cook, but he knows some decent restaurant with reasonable prices. He might be all over the place sometimes while panicking over an upcoming exam but at least he keeps his space organized ( unlike Han Jisung, whose closet is a perfect resemblance of World War III ).
Hyunjin throws his apple juice into the nearby bin while scrolling through the 'Romance' section briefly. And sharing the same Netflix account is probably the best decision you two have ever made. "What's worth-hating here ? No smelly kids, no not-having-enough-personal-space problem. There's good food, a cute, quirky roommate which naturally equals good company. You're living your best life right now. The only downside to this is that you have to deal with my questionable sleeping habits."
Fine. Hwang Hyunjin is cute, and a total heartthrob to the entire school. You won't be surprised if every single male student hates him with a passion ( which they do ). Not to mention, all of your female classmates would be more than happy to finish all of your assignments within two days as long as you hand over his number. Although they might want to reconsider due to the fact that this good-looking boy is also that person who records his alarm by yelling at the top of his lungs into his phone speaker.
But, a good friend wouldn't do that, because even God doesn't know what those creepy girls would do once they had their hands on his phone number. This is also why you always get dirty looks from everyone just because you just happen to be his plus-one for everything.
And Hwang Hyunjin only needs a plus-one when Seungmin decides to hate him on that day ( which is almost everyday ). So there goes your reputation. You're probably nothing but a mediocre girl who just doesn't know when not to be all over her hot best friend in the people's eyes.
Hyunjin snaps his head towards the front door when the bell rings then proceeds to turn back to his roommate, showing those ridiculously adorable puppy that naturally implies as 'Get the door for me, will ya ?'. And although all you want to do is to slap him with your laptop, you still stand up nonetheless. You undo the chains and slides the lock over before swinging the door open.
"Hyunjin, I was wondering if you wanna come see us perform this Saturday. You know, at the school's mini music festival. 8p.m. Got two tickets to spare. You can get yourself a plus-one or something." And before you - with an obnoxiously loud tone, the leather jacket and Balenciaga cap - is Changbin, who sassily brushes past you and makes a beeline towards the couch, where Hyunjin is man-spreading, wrapped up securely in his white fluffy blanket.
He lazily sits up from his previous position, receiving the tickets with half-open eyes. "I'll go. As long as 'Wow' is on schedule." 'Wow' is 3racha's first and most definitely last attempt of a love song but somehow, it's managed to get itself a special place in Hyunjin's heart. Well, more accurately, everyone's heart.
Changbin cocks an eyebrow. "It's first on the list actually." He then turns to you with a smirk spread across his lips. "Whatcha say, Y/N ? We all know your favorite line is 'Excuse me noona, do you have a boyfriend ?' from the lovely J.One." He refers to one of Jisung's lines in a love song which he wrote at the age of 16, Changbin wasn’t even 18 himself then. Good times. And now literally every girl is more than ready to throw themselves at him anytime, anywhere. Chan really didn't lie when he proclaimed 3racha as 'hot'.
You shake your head with a timid smile tugged on your lips. "I don't think so Bin, I'm having midterms on Monday, J.One can be saved later as my midnight snack whenever I wanna grill his ass for pestering me during the golden hour aka 3a.m."
Midterms sound good enough for an excuse because everyone would literally kill keep their A-s on those report cards. But unfortunately, you can't just play on the infamous SpearB that easily because apparently, being roommates with Hyunjin has absolutely nothing to do with improving your awful acting skills.
Just then, the most inappropriate, insufferable, infuriating, and other synonyms for 'annoying' clapback clicks inside Changbin's brain when an imaginary lightbulb pops up at the top of his head. "Man, you two are really out there banging each other in secret—"
And out the door he goes before you feel the need to personally stitch up his lips with your terrible sewing skills from elementary school. You close your eyes and takes in a deep breath, shutting the door behind your back while Hyunjin is too busy laughing his ass off on the couch.
This is getting to the point where you don't even need Han Jisung to be here to have the urge to strangle him, because his trash friends are no help at all.
two.
You step onto the bus with your earbuds on, right hand dropping the bus ticket into the glass box that's neatly placed right beside the driver's seat. Another day, another 4 hours of lectures and 2 continuous shifts which is another 5 hours at the café on campus, in which, sucks. But, what makes it even suckier comes right in three, two, one..
"Two people please !" A disturbingly obnoxious voice chirps right behind you. Just then, a figure dashes through the couple who are currently throwing daggers at him with their eyes. Not this again. You groans to yourself before sliding an extra ticket into the box because you definitely know better than to mess with a cranky bus driver. That boy over there really gotta pay for that shit.
Then, you take a seat beside the window, deciding to ignore the pest who just made you spend an extra ticket for his ride. You really should have taken another bus instead of the 325. Suddenly, a hand reaches towards one of your earbuds and pulls it out quickly. A puff of air hits your left eardrums like a rush of electricity, causing you to jump a bit.
"Can you stay still for a good span of 10 fucking seconds ?" You deadpan and and snap your head around. And before you - with slightly damp fringe covering his warm brown orbs, cute button nose and peachy lips ( gross ) - is Han Jisung. More accurately, the bane of your existence.
Jisung chuckles loudly at the big scowl on your face as he angles his head to take a proper look at you. You look like you just rolled out of bed, literally, not even metaphorically. Sweatpants, flannels and sneakers are the way to go if you're gonna be on your feet all day running around to serve sleep-deprived students and professors. Of course you look like a complete bum, it's 9a.m. What did he expect ?
"Aw." He pouts. "Where's the fun in that then, little cub ?"
And when Jisung reaches a hand out to pat your head, you frowns at his particularly ridiculous nickname for you and slaps his hand away. He watched the new remake of 'The Lion King' before the new semester started and cried like a total baby when Mufasa fell off the cliff, said Felix. Honestly, you wouldn't blame him because those devastating thirty seconds remain to be the most heartbreaking scene that Disney has ever invented. But still, the nickname is painfully unoriginal.
"Man, I hope you bombed your midterms or something." You speak up flatly, a slightly better retort lingering at the tip of your tongue but you're far too tired to argue with him anyway. And not to mention, your previous statement is completely useless because if Hwang Hyunjin is that kid who works his ass off to get good grades then Jisung is the complete opposite of that. He can sleep through ten lectures and still get a minimum of 90% on his exams. The perks of being a prodigy since newborn, can't relate.
Jisung feigns a painful expression, scrunching his nose up in fake agony. "How supportive of you, so incredibly validating." He cocks his head upwards carelessly, giving you a full view of his side profile.
Okay. Despite his annoying personality and questionable nicknames for everyone then Han Jisung is kinda attractive. You get it, you get it, Hwang Hyunjin is attractive but this prick is another kind of attractive.
Whenever he screams his heart out at the mic on stage, there are literal silver and gold specks floating in his eyes like an explosion of stardust scattered across the whole universe. And the way he conveys his emotions into his lyrics to perform an entire song on stage is just tremendously remarkable. No wonder all the girls always come rushing in when J.One is on stage.
Wait, were you thinking about Han Jisung or J.One ? But no, Han Jisung is J.One. It's just that J.One is slightly cooler than Jisung because he doesn't pester people until they have a cardiac arrest. Whatever, your brain is already yelling for retirement.
"You are coming to watch my performance right ?" Jisung suddenly leans over, your noses almost touching. Being the idiotic person that you are, your body immediately locks itself in place, hissing slightly at the current proximity. Great, now what ?
"Ooh." A low whistle escapes his lips. "You were too busy checking me out. It's okay, that's understandable. Not everyone can have a close-up of J.One's out-of-this-world visual." He flips his imaginary long hair and you make a gagging noise.
"I was not !" You exclaim upon embarrassment, cheeks turning into a bright shade of coral. "There's just something in your teeth."
"Uh huh, I doubt it." Yeah, he would never buy that. Jisung smiles at you cheekily and once again, Han Jisung has proved that he's the kind of guy who has the particular type of smile that makes you want to knock their teeth out. Although you can't help but fall for it nonetheless. Very typical of you. "So, are you coming or nah ?"
Your heart tingles a bit, and you feel like you can just pass out right here right now on this stupid bus in the middle of this stupid conversation with his stupid boy and his stupid smile. "No, I have my midterms on Monday. Guess who's pulling all nighters again ?" You push his face away because if not, you might as well just explode and make a fool of yourself.
"Ahhhh, why not ?" Jisung whines as if there's no tomorrow. "It's not like you enjoy drowning yourself in Kang's 40 slides of 'History of Media 101' anyway." Now, for once in a fairly long time, the bastard finally said something that wasn't complete bullshit. And you're starting to reconsider your decision because although Han Jisung is undeniably insufferable, J.One can make it up with his dope performances. But then again, you really just don't want to see his face on Saturdays.
Suddenly he rolls himself over again, his lips drawing a devilish smile. You can tell already from the dangerous look in his eyes, it's not going to end well.
"Are you in for a bet ? If I win, you'll have to go. But if you win, I'll do whatever you want me to, for an entire week. You're basically the privileged one here, don't even deny it."
three.
Changbin wakes up from his long nap to find Chan having his eyes glued to the laptop's screen as if his life depends on it. It makes him wonder how long his friend has been working on the rearrangement of all their songs for this Saturday's music festival.
"I see that you're making quite the progress." He grunts slightly before sitting up straight. The small faux leather couch that their school has in the band practice room isn't exactly the most comfortable thing to sleep on. But after what seems like an eternity in the lecture hall, tolerating the professor's rant then Changbin wouldn't even mind sleeping on the floor.
Chan slowly peels his eyes away from the screen and blinks numerous times so that he won't potentially go blind. He looks over at Changbin's slouch figure on the couch, tapping away on his phone and smiles dumbly at some memes that Minho just DM-ed to their group chat.
"Damn right, I just finished chopping up the bits of back-up vocals. I feel like my back is so fragile that it might break in half if I stand up." He runs a hand through his mop of black hair that's nowhere near the definition of 'doable' and yawns into his other palm.
He peeks over his shoulder to see Hyunjin and Felix sleeping while leaning against the mirror, Minho laying on top of Jeongin as he chuckles creepily at his phone. And Woojin is too busy singing his heart out with his guitar in the corner to notice Seungmin capturing everyone in their greatest glory, meaning when they're all a hot mess.
Changbin swings his legs over and slips into his black Adidas slides, walking over to Chan in a sluggish manner. He crouches down a bit while squinting his eyes to take a proper look at the laptop screen. Chan indeed has finished most of it, no wonder he looks ( and probably smells ) like trash. "I'll give you a hand, just send these over to me after when you got home." He says, giving his friend a pat on his back.
"Yeah sure," Chan puts a hand over his mouth to cover up another yawn. "By the way, where the fuck is Jisung ? He hasn't been answering my texts all morning."
Changbin gives him an indifferent shrug. "He said he would be on campus all day on Thursdays since he has classes and work right after- hold on he's texting me."
[ 5:23pm ]
piece of shit : where are you guys ?
baby changbin : band room, clearly you never listened.
[ 5:24pm ]
piece of shit : yeesh, I was busy you ass. texting y/n and all.
baby changbin : it was fucking 3a.m. !
[ 5:25pm ]
piece of shit : whatever, we'll be there in two.
He pauses for a while and lets the words sink in. Why "we" and not "I" ? Since when this was a plural thing ? Did all of those lectures and serving sleep-deprived students fuck up his brain cells ?
Wow, now Changbin feels bold to assume that Han Jisung even own brain cells. And before he can show the texts to the rest of his friends to make fun of Jisung while he's not here, the glass door swings open. Hyunjin and Felix jolt up in surprise at the same time, almost bumping their heads together at the creaking sound.
"We got you kids boba, wake up wake up hurry hurry SCHNELL !" Jisung screeches loudly when he pushes himself through the front door, accidentally making you bump your forehead into the dull glass surface.
You follows him inside with a big scowl on your face, quickly passing Changbin the plastic bags. Yes, you can hear the polar bears crying in the distance loud and clear but unluckily you only have two hands for ten cups of boba.
"Why boba all of a sudden ?" Minho looks up from his phone in boredom as Jeongin is utterly dying underneath, slapping his palm repeatedly against the floor in exhaustion.
Minho feels ( kinda ) bad for him and decides to roll himself over, setting Jeongin free from his miserable state. "Did you two go on a date or something ?" The youngest one's features morph into a frown, eyeing the two up and down in caution when he crosses his legs together.
You make an unimpressed face and glares at Jisung, who's currently hogging the entire black couch on his own. "Who the fuck would make their date carry everything then ? You tell me Jeongin."
Woojin stands up after craning his neck and shakes his head in disapproval. "My greatest disappointment, Han Jisung, would do that unfortunately." He walks over to Felix and Hyunjin to get himself a cup from the bag.
"Let's be honest, you'd still date him even if he does that anyway. I haven never seen any other girl who has the courage to personally rummage through his disastrous closet just to steal a hoodie." He takes a sip and smirks at the black hoodie that you're wearing. Woojin thinks you should definitely give yourself more credit because personally, he can't be bothered to step into Jisung's room, much less his closet.
You're still slightly confused for a moment there but quickly look down and almost gasp in realization. "I can explain—"
"Don't worry Y/N, if he ever mistreats you, you best believe that he's not gonna see tomorrow's daylight." Felix supplies unhelpfully over a mouthful of boba. Since when did he become such a nuisance ? But he's not entirely wrong because if no one volunteers to skin Jisung alive when he leaves you with a broken heart then Hyunjin will literally disown him. He doesn't care if it's legal or not because even a law student like Woojin would be on his side in this.
You hold up your hand defeatedly. "The jerk purposely left it on my couch back at the apartment. And Hyunjin didn't want to return nor wash it so I was obligated to do that myself. Eventually, the hoodie just ended up on a hanger right behind my bedroom door. Not to mention, I was running late earlier and had nothing to wear." You finish your sentence, realizing that your roommate has been giving you a 'wtf' face all his time.
"Out of reasons already ?" Chan chirps, raising a dark brow.
Okay.
In your defense, it's a goddamn good hoodie. The material is actually really nice that you might accidentally fall asleep if you wear this to class. You didn't mind the design on it either, kinda boyish but very funky, almost hippie looking. And last but not least, the smell of it is intoxicating, leaving you yearning for more. That's also equivalent to Jisung smells nice ( ew ) and your cheeks automatically heat up at the thought of feeling like he's hugging you whenever you wear it.
You frantically try to explain with expressive hands. "Look, guys—"
"You're going this Saturday !!" Jisung's voice suddenly booms behind your back as he declares loudly like it's the most worth-knowing thing in the whole wide world. The guys trade confused look with each other, not knowing what nonsense their friend is babbling about. Whatever, they don't have to either way. "You're going, you're going, you're going !"
You look over at Hyunjin's cup in disbelief, completely full and untouched. Meanwhile, Felix has already finished his drink in between the 15-minute conversation. You blinks and quickly comprehends the new amount of information, you lost the bet. Which means...
Screw midterms.
four.
Screw the music festival, you’re not going anywhere.
“How’s this ?” Hyunjin steps out from his room with a white dress shirt tucked inside his skinny jeans. And you hate him even more now because your roommate looks totally #boyfriendmaterial in every outfit that he’s been trying for the past half an hour. Really, Hyunjin should give himself more credit for his looks because you bet girls would still throw themselves at him even if he showed up to school looking homeless and all.
You look up from your phone in boredom. “Looks good to me.”
Upon your flat reply, Hyunjin shoots you a glare. “Good ? It only stops there at ‘good’ ? Then which item in my closet appeals to you as ‘spectacular’ or ‘breathtaking’ ? Should I just hire a personal stylist or something ?” He wants to snap at you but ends up whining like a elementary school kid that’s not allowed to drink his favorite soda from the vending machine.
“Dude, eat a chill pill.” You frown slightly at his particularly dramatic ass ( tsk, drama majors ) and decide to put your phone down. “You’re going to a music festival, at uni. Not attending some kind of award shows for celebrities.”
Hyunjin snickers before clicking his tongue. “And you’re planning on wearing that ?”
Your roommate is stressing himself over being overdressed for an event. You, on the other hand, haven’t even made up your mind about an outfit yet and your plus-one is picking you up in less than 30 minutes. And you’re still here, on the couch, in your pyjamas. Call it madness but personally, you wouldn’t mind wearing this to the music festival. Music is technically art in some kind of shape or form and only uncultured swines judge those who prefer being comfy over fashionable.
Come on, it’s art. Your pyjamas can express yourself in some sort of way right ?
“Stop shitting on my Mickey Mouse sweatpants as if it’s something straight out of the 1910s.” You protest, urging to throw the jar filled with gummy bear on the coffee table at his precious face. Mickey is definitely not going anywhere since you guys have been bonding since middle school.
Hyunjin pauses in the middle of his track going back into his room. Suddenly he turns around and smiles at you creepily. “It’s Jisung, isn’t it ?”
Yeah, no. Most definitely not. Still not him. Nuh uh. Okay… Maybe it’s because you don’t want to embarrass your plus-one because he’s also a total heartthrob. Maybe, it could be something about the fact that you’re afraid you’re not gonna look as good as your roommate. Or maybe it’s something inside the can of Redbull that you downed last night while rewatching the last episode of ‘Goblin’. You don’t even like Redbull.
Shit, you’re running out of excuses already.
“Actually, I was thinking that it’d be better if I didn’t show up.” You confess timidly, scared to meet Hyunjin’s confused expression.
When you gather enough courage to look up, he looks absolutely unimpressed and partially disappointed. “And you’re just gonna rain-check on Choi Yeonjun like that ? Changbin’s not letting this slide, I’ll tell you that.” He shakes his head in disapproval, this time turning on his heels to walk towards his bedroom door.
Something inside your stomach is tickling, as if it’s trying to tell you that you’re about to commit some kind of unforgivable sin if you don’t go to the festival. And just when you’re about to ignore it and wrap yourself up warmly on the L-shaped couch like the lazy bum that you are, your phone buzzes.
[ 4:24pm ]
yeonjun | I’ll be there in five.
five.
Only losers go to a music festival without a plus-one.
Hyunjin is one lucky bastard because Seungmin is tolerating his ass for the day. Meanwhile, Woojin is too busy pestering Felix to let him sneak into backstage looking for Changbin. And by now, everyone probably knows that Minho is secretly obsessed with Jeongin since he's decided to stick himself to the youngest like the spoiled parasite that he is. But that's not the point. Point is : you're terrible at navigation so you're obligated to get yourself a plus-one.
And he just happens to be Choi Yeonjun, that one business major who's secretly a dancer that left everyone's wig flying to Africa during last year's prom. You two have walked past each other before between periods and since he's an acquaintance of Changbin, he'd always wave back at you with the sweetest smile. You see him as a fun person to be around, kinda like a sunshine.
But what you didn't know is that, if your group of friend's chaotic energy is 3000, then Yeonjun alone is already on another level.
"Why the long face Y/N ? Enjoy the music, relax, let the night set you free !" Yeonjun chuckles at the frown on your face as he swings an arm over your shoulder. You can already tell that he's getting a bit tipsy from his tinted red cheeks and his breath smells like beer. Never knew the guy couldn't go heavy with his alcohol. Much like your roommate himself.
You peel the red plastic cup away from his hand to abandon it on some random table, dragging him away from the bar before his friend - Beomgyu, offers him some kind of sketchy looking drink. The kid is only a freshman and you feel like you should strangle the person who permitted him to be the bartender for the night.
"Alright, that's enough beer for you." You tell him mild-seriously, partially because you don't want him to end up knocked out in the middle of nowhere and partially because you can't contain someone who's drunk, not even yourself. "Let's find Soobin, I bet he's running around campus looking for your ass."
"What do you mean he's looking for my ass ? He's at home playing stupid boardgames with stupid Taehyun." Yeonjun slurs, shaking the haziness away furiously before fluttering his eyes upwards. "Look !" He squeals a little bit too loudly for anyone's liking. "It's your boyfriend !"
You abruptly put your index finger on his lips. "Shh shhh ! Han Jisung is not my boyfriend ! Watch your mouth, please, I beg." You hush him and glance around to look for any signs of Hyunjin or Felix popping out from a random bush to make fun of you. "We're barely friends, why would you think that we're dating ?!" You cry dramatically, cheeks burning with a bright shade of pink.
The blue haired boy makes a thinking face, which you think it's undeniably cute, before pointing towards the stage. "Because he's looking at you ?" He says cluelessly, giggling while clapping happily like a seal.
You unconsciously lift your head to eye the stage. Time seems to stop when you realize Jisung has been staring at you all this time. His expression is unfathomable. Your heart starts thundering loudly inside your rib cage, so loud that it overcomes the loud EDM music in the background, so loud that you're afraid he might hear it even when he's so far away.
In this light, in the middle of your chaos, there is Jisung. And he's absolutely otherworldly, radiant, dazzling, coruscating. Gosh, you can go on forever if your brain cells allow you to.
The moment he breaks eye contact, that's when you're pondering over who is it that your heart is beating for. Han Jisung ? Or is it just J.One ? Because you've seen Jisung as a total pest who never takes things seriously, who always makes you pay an extra ticket for his ride to uni, who spontaneously sends you derp pictures of him in the middle of a lecture. But no matter where you go, he would constantly pop up inside your mind out of nowhere. Like a phantom.
Suddenly, Chan's voice booms through the speaker, making you jump. "The performance of 3racha will be delayed due to technical errors. We apologize for this inconvenience." You stand there dumbly, blinking numerous times for his words to sink in. The question here isn't really 'what?' but 'why?'. 3racha take music very seriously and they're not the type to slack off any performances even if it's just for a school's small event.
You snap your head back to the stage, Chan and Changbin are talking to a technical staff, an apologetic smile blooming on their faces. But wait, where the fuck is Jisung ?
"Told ya !" Yeonjun hiccups into your ear. "What kind of non-boyfriend will cancel a performance just to come and see you like this ?" You should have gone with Hyunjin, you really should.. You bet he's not even half as drunk a Yeonjun right now since all Seungmin drinks is kombucha.
Unexpectedly, and also expectedly, you find yourself staring at Jisung, who's speed-walking towards your direction, like a complete dumbass. There's fire flickering at the back of his irises, burning intensely onto you. His brows are knitted together, his jacket hanging slightly over his shoulder, teasing you with a flash of his biceps. You also notice how the microphone is still there, in his hand.
Did he fucking leave the stage just to see you ?
Jisung breathes out a puff of smoke from the chilly air. "Y/N, got you."
Your heart actually feels like it’s hanging on the edges when your name rolls off his tongue so tenderly. "And you are ?" He looks over at Yeonjun with an almost disgusted expression, his hand instinctively reaching for yours. You don't blame him either way because Yeonjun looks like he just made it out of one of the world's most traumatizing lunatic asylum with shitty security. And Jisung wouldn't let you walk around with a crazy guy attached to you like a total creep. Not when he's monitoring.
“Y/N’s plus-one ?”
“Well that makes two of us.”
Yeonjun holds his hands up as if he's being held at gunpoint. "Easy, dude, I'm leaving. I'm leaving. She's all yours." He laughs, sounding almost too nervous to be true because Jisung is somewhat scary whenever someone gets on his bad side. Just ask Highschool Hyunjin.
"You're wasted as fuck, what makes you think that I'll let you go home alone like this ?" You say, flinching slightly when you feel Jisung tightens his grip on your hand. He cocks a brow as if he's testing you.
"Nah, I'm not going anywhere. Just gonna swing by the bar, Beomgyu probably came up with something to knock me out." Without a proper goodbye nor a hug like his normally playful self usually does, the blue haired boy turns on his heels to walk away from the scene. And you exhale deeply out of relief, not because you hated Yeonjun's company, you might actually hang out with him again. Just not where there's alcohol.
Jisung still hasn't let go of your hand yet, and surprisingly, you don't want him to. "I take that as you two aren't dating ?" He questions, studying your features more closely. You're really pretty, he thinks. Jisung has never once hesitant about using the word 'pretty' for you and he's not afraid to show it either. It's just that you never bothered to notice.
"No ? Hyunjin decided to ditch me for Seungmin and Yeonjun's a mutual friend through Changbin so we texted, and he picked me up after when Hyunjin left." You give him a weird look, confused by how pissed off he looks right now. "And I take that as you're jealous ?"
Jisung laughs humorously, his voice doused in dry sarcasm. "Huh, funny. Last time I checked, you were supposed to be backstage with me since you lost the bet, not clinging yourself onto some hot guy from Changbin's Biochem 101." Of course Jisung is pissed off. How could he not when you're all smiling and laughing with another guy, when he has an arm over your shoulder, holding you so lovingly, so tightly ? Another guy that's not him.
You widen your eyes at how ridiculous he sounds, almost in disbelief. "Excuse you ? Since when 'being backstage with you' was even a thing in our bet ?" Yeah, completely unheard of. "And I was not clinging onto him, I'll have you know that he chugged on a bottle of Hennie and ended up wobbling around like a fucking toddler !"
Your voice is getting louder and louder by the second, chest heaving up and down in anger because he is in fact, being extra insufferable tonight. You haven’t seen him acting like this since he officially declared cold war with Hyunjin back in junior year highschool.
"Oh yeah ? Then what ? You liked that ? It makes me sick to the stomach seeing you giggling at one of his stupid jokes. You seemed so fucking comfortable even when he's this close ?" Jisung tugs in your arm to pull you closer, his cool breath fanning your forehead. Your cheeks unknowingly feel hot, but you're not going to admit it to his face. "You're completely okay with this ?"
You grimace a stiff smile. "Of course I am." Oh boy were you wrong.
"Even now ?" He places his hands over your shoulder to bend down, angling his face so that the tip of his nose is brushing over yours. His gaze pierces right through you, leaving you completely stripped and vulnerable. And you hate every single part of this. You hate how you heart is swelling, how his touches burn like fire, how much effect he has on you with such minimal effort.
Jisung says with a devilish smirk blooming on his lips. "Hmm ? I don't know Y/N, you look pretty burnt up to me."
"It's because of the heat—" You instantly regret what you said when it starts to rain. Droplets of water repeatedly tap against your skin like clear champagne. A cloud shadows over you two and another splatter of rain comes along. Goosebumps rise on your skin at the cool sensation as your limbs lock themselves in place. Jisung has never broken eye contact with yours since then, specks of good and silver floating in his eyes like a brilliant explosion of a supernova.
Just when you thought your lips was gonna collide, something unexpected happens. Jisung takes off his jacket and swings it over your shoulders. He gently holds you by the waist as he hurries you inside, your gaze never once leaves his features. He's saying something but you can't quite catch it, it's hard to concentrate when he's being all affectionate and sweet to you like this.
You are far too busy telling your heart not to explode.
six.
Felix stomps over to your table and slams his tray of food down aggressively. Everyone peels their eyes off what they’re doing for the time being, throwing a weird look towards him. With a satisfied smile on his face, Felix drops his notebook onto the table. Changbin glances at him with an expressionless face, almost yawned in boredom. “And how did it go again ?” He drawls tiredly as if he has heard the same joke over and over for an entire week.
“You know that feeling when you feel like you’re completely detached from your own body and just stare at yourself from above ? I was up there, mind blank while my mouth couldn’t stop blabbering about what ever the fuck was on those slides. I ditched my Flashcards, completely untouched, 5 minutes has never flown by so quick. Boom, the professor didn’t even think twice about giving me an A.” Felix leans back on his chair comfortably after wrapping up his story.
Seungmin scrunches his nose at his friend. “Yeah sure, it’s an A. Big fucking deal.” Kim Seungmin basically has a full scholarship straight to college in the middle of his senior highschool year, you can say that he has the right to be unimpressed.
Minho shrugs indifferently, scrolling through his feed to kill some time. “It is for Yongbok apparently, give him a break. You know he hardly gets any when his brain only consists of Seo Changbin and Fortnite.”
Felix hisses at the older boy like a cat when you accidentally step on its tail, threatening to gouge out one of his eyes with the plastic fork on his hand. Minho being on his ass 24/7 just makes college that much more of a hellhole. He can’t help but roll his eyes in annoyance because no one is even trying to spare a ‘Good job’ or ‘Good for you’. He might actually need new friends, Felix ponders.
But wait, something’s missing.
Jisung didn’t even try to make fun of him. And he never missed a single chance to pester him or call him out every time he’s all giddy over good grades. In other words, his secret life as a potential nerd has been foiled thanks to Han Jisung. But apparently, girls find it hot when a nerd is secretly a dancer.
He looks over to his friend and frowns furiously. A hood thrown over his head, eyes glued to his laptop screen, Jisung looks extra antisocial today and Felix can feel something’s off because he would be jumping around, yelling into your ears by now, not making a PowerPoint presentation. “What’s wrong with you two ?” He asks, noticing how you’re also acting strange.
You’re mindlessly scrolling through Twitter, and stop abruptly at a new post from @j.one. It’s a picture of Jisung grinning while gripping on a microphone followed by a caption “Always have so much fun performing w/ my bros, @spearB & @cb97 - photo by @princehwang #SocialSaturday”.
You almost snickered, feeling the need to change it into “#TBT”. Not only because this photo was taken months ago for a summer music festival nearby Uni, but also because this bright side of Han Jisung no longer exists. He hardly talked to you since Saturday, ignored you when you made eye-contact with him on the hallways, didn’t even ask you to pay for his ride.
Basically, he’s making a fuss out of nothing. But you wouldn’t say that it feels good not having him call you ‘little cub’ 50 times a day or send you random messages during a lecture like ‘go out with me ?’. You never take them seriously anyway because he can’t like you just like that, right ? “Ask him, not me.” You raise a brow towards Jisung, earning a glare from him as a reply. “I’m not the one who’s being petty over me going to a music festival with Choi Yeonjun.”
Jisung sighs dramatically and shuts his laptop close. “Is that all you got ?” He inquires sarcastically as if he’s gonna set you on fire if you dare to try him.
“That’s what I said the first time we played Mario Kart together, isn’t it ? I totally kicked your ass, to the curb.” You protest as the blood running through your veins slowly boils. If it weren’t for Hyunjin to hold your shoulders in place, you would have thrown hands at Jisung.
Jisung slams his hands onto the surface of the table harshly, almost knocked the whole table over. “Yeah, that’s why Chan never lets you drive because you’re exactly the reason for all of our wild turbulence. Because you suck at driving !”
You feel like you’re being held in a chokehold, literally and metaphorically because you can’t even drag Jisung down to the very bottom of Hell when you’re fully capable of doing that. Not before you kill him with your bare hands.
“I mean one of us had to have the guts to drive everyone back after a party where y’all got fucking wasted. College parties are so lit, they say. Who the fuck does three keg stands in a row just to run around the neighborhood shirtless later on ?!” You clatter loudly, earning a ‘wtf’ look from the students at the opposite table.
“Who wants another milkshake ? It’s on me.” Woojin interrupts the two of you, already pulling out his wallet in a rush.
Jisung’s ears automatically turn red, and you smirk at the sight of his pink cheeks upon both embarrassment and anger. “What did you just say ?”
“Ten milkshakes it is.” Chan drags Woojin out of his seat and the two of them helplessly walk towards the canteen cashier from across your table. He’s already given up, you can tell. Because if not, he would just personally hang Jisung upside down on a tree ( his natural habitat ) so that he can cool down before he said something he’d definitely regret later.
You push Hyunjin away and stand up right, staring at Jisung dead in the eye. “What’s wrong ? Cat got your tongue ?” Are you finally getting back at him ? Is this how victory taste like ?
“Say that again and I’m gonna— ugh ! Christ, I hate you !” Jisung sounds like he’s on the verge of exploding and you’re absolutely enjoying every single moment of this.
You mock him in amusement. “You’re gonna what ?”
“I’m gonna fucking kiss—“
Before Jisung could finish his sentence, Minho pulls his friend backwards and Jisung once again lands on his bottom, onto the wooden bench. “Okay, I don’t wanna ruin the heat but at least spare some of your sanity for the sake of publicity, yeah ? You know, if you guys wanna make out that bad, there’s always a restroom.”
Sanity ? For the sake of publicity ? Well, that changes everything. “WE’RE NOT GONNA MAKE OUT LEE MINHO YOU FUCKING BASTARD ! DON’T MAKE ME KNOCK KNOCK UPSIDE YOUR HEAD, YOU FILTHY PIECE OF SH-“ You’ve come to a decision that if Han Jisung doesn’t end up somewhere six feet under the ground, then Lee Minho - aka his best friend - is taking his bullet for today.
“Woah woah, Y/N, easy girl, easy.” Hyunjin holds you back with both hands. Okay, he gets why Jeongin doesn’t want to come over whenever you and Jisung are breathing in the same room now.
Jeongin scrunches his nose as he obnoxiously chews on his tuna sandwich. “Yeah, you guys need to cool down a little bit. You know, just chill out. That’s enough for your ‘friendly banter’, let the others enjoy their lunch in peace, will you ?”
You and Jisung continuously give each other death stares for the rest of your lunch break. Even when Chan and Woojin come rushing back with five cups of milkshakes each, even when it’s your favorite flavor in the entire world, it can never put out the fire of wrath that’s burning furiously deep inside. All you want to do is to have Han Jisung down on his knees and beg you for his life like how King Stefan did to Maleficent. The only difference is that Jisung actually doesn’t have a daughter.
Is that too much to ask for ?
seven.
[ 2:35pm ]
yeonjun | hey, I need to talk to you…
yeonjun | nearby café after school ? I can just wait if you’re getting out late.
You read the message on your way out of the lecture hall and widen your eyes. The hour displayed on your screen reads ‘3:45pm’. You immediately push your way through the crowd of sweaty students and run down the hallway like a psychopath. God, Yeonjun has been sitting alone at the café like a complete fool just because of you. Now you feel like a terrible human being.
“Woah, where are you going in such a hurry ?” Hyunjin yells at you loudly when you brush past him and Jeongin.
You hastily shout back at him before continuing to run. “Don’t wait for me ! Just spare me some left over !”
When you arrive at the café, you feel like you should give yourself a pat on the shoulder because you don't think you’ve ever run that fast before in your entire life. Not even for the marathon competitions during middle school.
And the café looks somewhat different today, something smells weird too, you notice. Then you realize that they just repainted the whole thing, replacing the old teal blue color into a warmer brownish color. The walls and windows are decorated with fairy lights, like a cherry on a sundae, it’s perfect for the upcoming winter break. Because students aren’t just gonna come here for the caffeine, they’re gonna hog this place for themselves sooner or later to get at least one aesthetic photo for the holiday.
You quickly spot Yeonjun sitting alone in the color while having his headphones on, slowly dozing off to the music. His cup of iced macchiato remains untouched with water dipping on the sides. A pang of guilt hits you almost instantly when you start walking towards his direction. As you sit down on the opposite seat, Yeonjun suddenly startles and shakes his sleepiness away.
“Hey, I’m so sorry, my phone was off all day.” You say with an apologetic smile on your face, feeling the guilt keeps piling onto your shoulders. “You could just leave or something, I wouldn’t be mad.”
Yeonjun removes his headphones and laughs slightly, scratching the nape of his neck. “It’s fine,” He waves his hands at you to tell you that everything’s okay. “I really need that short nap after all. God, I was dreading my neuroscience assignment all day. But hey, I really need to talk to you, that’s why I was so determined to wait.”
“Don’t even, Yeonjun. You could have just gone home and rest.” You shake your head at him in defeat. You swear to God, he’s too kind. “What’s so important that you wanted to talk to me so badly ?” You ask while flipping through the menu. The weather has been pretty chilly lately, it might be nice to have a hot chocolate.
Yeonjun’s ears turn red at your words and he starts to dart his eyes around, scared to meet your eyes. “I— uhm, look, I just—“ He stammers with tinted pink cheeks, which you find ridiculously adorable. “I just wanted to say sorry for what happened on Saturday.” He manages to squeak out and you have to hold back the urge to laugh. “I shouldn't have drunk that much beer, right ? You should feel lucky that I left you with your boyfriend because I may or may not have thrown up all over Beomgyu. He almost kicked me off a cliff, I’m not overexaggerating, I swear.”
That’s not true. Yeonjun should be the one who needs to feel lucky because not only didn’t Beomgyu leave him on some random sidewalks, he personally called Taehyun to bring him extra clothes and had an Uber to get them three back home before midnight. He knows Beomgyu is too utterly soft for him to murder him in his sleep anyway.
You smile at him before waving the waiter boy over to punch in your order. “Choi Yeonjun, it’s fine, really. You’re so much fun to hang around. But next time, no more beer for you, get it ?” Upon your teasing, he lets out a nervous chuckle. And little did you know, he’s planning on telling you something much, much more horrendous. “And how many times do I need to tell you that Jisung is not my boyfriend ?”
“Just not yet.” He corrects you, and you’re stuck between the ideas of strangling Han Jisung and throwing Choi Yeonjun off a cliff. Or maybe both. “You guys caused quite the scene during lunch break. You two bickered like an old married couple. Not to mention, you’ve probably ended up on everyone’s social medial by now.”
Your eyes widen in terror. A tape of you, and Han Jisung yelling at each other at the top of your lungs is on the Internet. Since a young age, you’ve come to realize that nothing on the internet ever really goes away. And that thought scares you shitless. Great, now everyone will think of you two as that one loud couple who always argue over stupid things. “I’m so fucking screwed— give me a sec, someone’s texting me.”
[ 4:12 pm ]
han | where are you ?
y/n | why would that matter ?
han | you’re on a date right ? with him.
y/n | han jisung are you watching me ? wtf you creep !?
[ 4:13pm ]
han | do you like him ?
han | just answer me honestly for once.
y/n | so you ARE jealous. hah, busted.
But wait, why would he be jealous ? That makes no sense.
[ 4:14pm ]
han | so what if i’m jealous ?
Your heart stops as a small ‘huh?’ escapes your lips. Yeonjun looks at you with a confused expression, almost develops a mild interest in what made you so flustered. But he guessed it either way because it’s too obvious who’s the only person that has this kind of effect on you.
han | i was the one who asked you out first, it’s not fair !
y/n | ...
y/n | hey, are you drunk ?
[ 4:15pm ]
han | i’m as sober as i can be, enjoy your pretty little date y/n.
When everything’s already a mess, when you’re at a loss for words, Hyunjin’s abrupt call is something else more than just fuel to the fire. “Y/N ! Have you seen Jisung ?” Your roommate sounds alarmed on the other end and your stomach automatically twists into a knot.
“No, I haven’t seen him since lunch… why ?” The uneasy feeling has been ghosting your gut since you received the questionable texts from Jisung, and you’re afraid to hear what Hyunjin’s gonna say next. “What’s wrong ? What happened to him ?” You bombard him with questions after questions, fiddling your fingers nervously in fear.
Yeonjun quickly senses something’s off and reaches his hand outwards. He places his hand over yours gently, rubbing little circles to remind you to calm down. There are a thousand bad scenarios running through your mind like lightning of what could have happened to Jisung. What if he’s about to do something stupid ? What if he’s hurting, and no one ever asked ? What if… it’s all because of you ?
“Hyunjin, just fucking answer me !” You almost snapped, finding the silence on the other line extremely disturbing.
He replies breathlessly, as if he’s already given up. “He’s gone.”
“What do you mean he’s gone ?” You can’t believe your own ears at this point.
Hyunjin sounds like he’s about to have a mental breakdown. “Changbin said he hadn’t been home when his shift was supposed to end at 3. Chan said he wasn’t on campus either, nor the band room. We’ve checked everywhere, not his house, not the usual boba place, not even his favorite get-away spots. He ran away, Y/N, no one knows why. And I’m scared..” Your heart instantly drops to the pit of your stomach.
Not even his favorite get-away spots.. We’ve checked everywhere.
But Jisung would never tell them about all of his get-away spots.
eight.
Jisung unlocks his phone and sees several missed calls from his group of friends along with endless texts but his eyes only linger on some particular ones.
[ 7:23pm ]
y/n | can we just talk this out ?
y/n | this is so fucking childish of you.
y/n | I don’t care if you want to kick me out of your life.
y/n | I’m coming for you.
Jisung doesn’t know whether he should be crying or laughing. Basically, he’s emotionally restrained.
Because apparently, life is preposterous. One moment you’re laughing while being pissed off when he annoys the heck out of you. Then later you would ditch him to have yourself wrapped around another guy’s arms. Hours ago, you were on the edge of pushing his limits into the unknown and now you’re being all concerned and worried about him. He feels mildly exasperated partially because you’re playing with his heart, and partially because he allows you to do that.
He has been watching you from behind all this time. He always has so much on his mind that keeps him awake at nights but never really knows how to convey his feelings for you into words. Maybe that’s why J.One can only write love songs in vain. So being the genius person that he is, he thought ( and still think ) that the only way to approach you was to make fun of you. He can only call you questionable nicknames all day because he doesn’t have the heart to actually call you ‘babe’ in a genuine way. He would always end up spitting out something less than appropriate or stick his nose into your business because he can never fathom the courage to say a simple ‘I love you’. Yes, Jisung knows that he’s a coward for making such excuses but the thought of putting his heart into someone else’s hand scares him shitless. Not that he has never gone through a heartbreak before but the scars never really go away.
Honestly, Jisung has never thought that he would end up liking you this much. He still vividly remembers the day that you two met for the first time. It was freshman year highschool, he got signed up for a role in the drama club at the time being thanks to Hyunjin and suddenly he saw you sitting alone in a corner, struggling over a piece of prop for the set.
Even when it’s the awkward phase, you took his breath right away like ‘whoosh’, leaving him utterly speechless when your eyes collide. From then on, you’re the ‘nothing’ that people ask him about whenever he looks like he’s spacing out. You’re the only thing that keeps lingering in his mind, impossible to forget. He finally understands why people are always so giddy about their crush because once you like someone, everything changes. Like how your smile seems to be even brighter than the Sun, how your goofy laugh feels like music to his ears, or how every little thing that you do affects him way too damn much. Woah, he understands why his group of friends said that he’s so whipped for you now.
Jisung doesn’t know what to think or what to feel anymore. He really doesn’t. He hates how you keep switching between ‘the Y/N who hates Jisung with passion’ and ‘the Y/N who genuinely worries about Jisung’. It drives him nuts not knowing how you really feel about him. Jisung swipes his index finger upwards and presses the ‘Airplane Mode’ button from the Control Center settings. He can’t afford having Chan or Minho screaming directly at his ears after when he ran away like that. Maybe he is childish after all.
“Han Jisung !”
Jisung snaps his head backwards to find you standing there, disheveled hair, hands supporting on your knees with a glint of fierceness in your eyes. With the dim source of light from the Moon, you’re glowing under all of the sentimental glory that leaves him completely flustered. He’s really predictable, he thinks. Of course you’d know that he would end up choosing the park where he used to hang out with Seungmin since kindergarten. It’s also where he bawled his eyes out after his first breakup, having you rub little circles on his back and tell him that everything’s gonna be alright.
“What are you doing here ?” He asks soullessly although his heart his yelling at him to fall into your embrace.
“I told you, didn’t I ?” You say, breaths growing more even by the seconds. “I’m coming for you, I don’t care if you’re gonna kick me out of your life because I’m not allowing that.”
Jisung snickers, clicking his tongue in annoyance. “You rain-checked on Choi Yeonjun just like that ? Aren’t you afraid that he’s gonna break up with you tomorrow after finding you that you’re rummaging through the entire city to look for me, an absolute bastard who never leaves well enough alone ?”
You shoot him a stern look, brows slightly furrowed. “You didn’t let me finish, how rude. I’m trying to prove a point, don’t you see ? If I really didn’t give two fucks about you then why would I be here ? If I was really dating Choi Yeonjun then I could have just stayed at home and cuddled with him until Hyunjin kicked him out of our apartment. It’s been almost three hours, Jisung. Three fucking hours. I was running from place to place like a psychopath, got lost on some random streets, just to find you. Yes, just for you.”
He squints his eyes at you skeptically. “And your point is ?”
“I care about you.” You don’t even need to consider anything at this point and that has Jisung’s jaw dropped to the ground. “I could never hate you, even if I do, I can’t hate you for the rest of my life for my own good. Even when you call me ‘little cub’ fifty times a day, even when you make me pay for your ride, even when we almost threw hands at each other during lunch break, my feelings for you never change. Not even one bit.” You state confidently, taking long strides towards him.
Jisung looks at you with a blank expression, his lips pressed into a thin line. “I don’t know Y/N. You’re a fucking hot mess. For all I know, you second-guessed most of your decisions in life. What if you decided to pull—“ That’s it, you’re not enduring his ‘what if’-s bullshit any longer.
Without a word, you grab Jisung by the collar and pull him flush against you. When your lips collide with his, it feels like you’re being sent to the Moon and back continuously. Sparks of joy, lust, and mixed emotions ignite inside his heart when you trace your tongue over his then it explodes like a firework that lights up the eerie darkness effortlessly. Jisung slowly gives in and melts into the kiss, his hands snaking around your waist to hold you closer, feeling your warmth radiating off on his flannels. You’re the first one to pull away, hands trailing behind the nape of his neck. “I can say that giving away my first kiss is enough to prove that the only thing I’ve never second-guessed was liking you.” You say breathlessly, trying to ignore the rouge on your cheeks.
“I am your first kiss ?” He widens his eyes slightly.
You scoff at him while trying to act casual. “Be grateful at least you brat.” Jisung chuckles softly at you, slightly taken aback at your bold action as the feeling of your lips on his chills him to the bones. “Point taken.” At that moment, you quickly realize how his warm brown eyes hold their own galaxy with the stars shining so brightly that makes your heart swell. At that moment, you also realize that Jisung is your Sun because his smile alone can light up the whole celestial sphere. Meanwhile you’re his Moon because no matter what happens, you’ll always be here to brighten him up on the darkest of days.
And you both know that as long as you have each other, you will forever be radiant.

For best results please look at this Rex and this Cody before reading.
“tribute”
Another one of the local little chompers marched towards the dais with all the solemnity and determination of a verd’ika plucking their first set of whites off the assembly line. Cody met Rex’s eye and they both very carefully avoided grinning at the sight. Not only could it be bad for their relationship with said locals, it wouldn’t do to let their Jedi think they were, in fact, having a good time up there.
When the kid came to a halt a ‘respectful’ distance away, Cody nodded for them to approach and bent his head to receive the kid’s blessing and subsequent gift. He watched Rex do the same.
The celebration had been going for hours, by that point, and they’d amassed a pile of shiny little wearable trinkets to give any sovereign of Naboo a run for their credits and enough blessings to make them holier than most deities. It’d been a relief, at the start of the night, to hear that—aside from the ceremonial outfits they’d been bullied into wearing—he and Rex were free to redistribute the gifts as they saw fit. Something about sharing luck, or good vibes, or what have you.
Said ceremonial outfits, on the other hand, they were obliged to keep and maintain with honor.
Obi-Wan had smoothed over any offense they’d given with their lacklustre reaction to the news but Rex’s general had been less than subtle in his delight at their new possessions. Tano, at least, had just told them they looked nice and kept her own mocking to a bare minimum.
And it wasn’t that they were grateful, Cody had reflected at the start of the celebration, when he and Rex had stepped out under the light of the moons to deafening cheers, but. It wasn’t quite their style, no matter how well the two of them pulled off the intricate, and admittedly beautiful, get-ups.
Rex, by dint of his Torrent paintjob, had been immediately deemed the locals’ Goddess of War come again and draped accordingly in layers of blue fabric. Some of it was dark and blaster-resistant and some of it pale and so sheer as to be almost nonexistent. Bands of silver, often studded with precious blue stones, were wrapped around his wrists, forearms, biceps, and throat, and a silver cap affixed with yet more jewels and a pale blue veil had been placed on his head with much reverence.
After a great deal of muttered debate, they determined that Cody must be their war deity’s twin, the Goddess of Beauty. Not an insult by any means…
The traditional garb he’d been presented with, by contrast, was deep red with a long flowing cape and headdress of heavy twisted fabric. It came with its own set of jewelry, as well, shining gold and polished red stones, bulky and eye-catching around his wrists and throat and slim and delicate around his forearms and biceps. Something about the placement was culturally significant, but hells if Cody was going to ask what.
They’d already lost the battle against: 1) staying for several days to rest and recuperate, 2) accepting the titles of living incarnations of their local deities and all the celebration that entailed, and 3) keeping both the get-ups and the gifts for themselves.
No way was Cody going to invite more conversation about their cultural practices. He could win against droids and bounty-hunters and half-baked Sith, but apparently, he couldn’t convince a bunch of over-awed, Mid Rim locals that he and Rex weren’t tools of War and Beauty.
Tools of the Republic, sure, but nothing divine.
The leader of the city they’d liberated had just smiled gently and reassured them that belief on their part was not necessary, only acceptance of their gratitude. Which came with lots of shiny metal, sparkly rocks, and a pair of gowns that they had to either accept or throw into a sacrificial fire and publicly reject.
Obi-Wan had stepped in at that point.
He’d assured everyone that they had no interest in disrespecting their culture and asked for a debrief about the ceremony.
Wear the outfits, sit on the thrones, and let people fawn over them at least a little bit, had basically been the long and short of it. But, hey, they were comfortably cushioned, well-fed, and kept hydrated throughout the whole thing, so it could have been worse. Sharp-toothed little ankle-biters shyly kissing their foreheads and handing them shiny bits and bobs before scampering off weren’t much of a hardship.
“How’re you fellas doing?” Skywalker asked, strolling up to the dais with a grin that had yet to falter all night. “Getting into the spirit of the thing? Really feeling the divinity flow through you?”
Plenty vode had wandered over to check on them over the course of the night, mostly to heckle, but the Jedi had visited just as frequently. And for similar reasons, too.
The way Rex’s general had been eyeing him all night, Cody was almost worried for Rex’s safety. He’d heard plenty of complaints from Obi-Wan about Skywalker’s willingness to eat damn near anything; who was to say that he hadn’t acquired a taste for Mandalorian-adjacent flesh and wouldn’t gobble poor Rex up in just a few bites.
He was pretty sure Commander Tano was having some kind of intermittent crisis over at their table as well.
It was his responsibility, as both Marshal Commander and ori’vod, to bring his concerns to his superior officer and then ruthlessly mock all three of them. After Skywalker eventually got tired of making Rex blush and wandered away whistling a jaunty tune to a very raunchy cantina song, that was.
“So does that ‘angel’ of his know the two of you have started sharing blankets since your last stop-over on Coruscant or should I start planning your funeral now?” Cody said archly, watching his vod’ika visibly consider punching him. “I’ll be sure to wear this and lie about how smart and good-looking you are, like a proper vod.”
Rex pressed a hand over his eyes and groaned. “Angel knows,” he admitted, darting an unsubtle glance at his general’s shebs. “What I am afraid of, though, is that next time we stop over on Coruscant she’s gonna have a whole new wardrobe just like this one and it will just happen to be in my size.”
“Well, hey, get a full-coverage veil and you’re probably good to step out with them,” Cody said with false sympathy, gleefully imagining the uproar that would cause. “Just make sure they’re made out of that fabric that’s designed to ruin holos. Pakod.”
The ol’ boy made a sound like a malfunctioning mouse-droid.
“Is it too much to believe that I’d like to spend whatever leave I get wearing as few clothes as possible?” he wailed, quietly, with a desperation that made Cody think this was an argument he and the senator had gotten into before. With this revelation in mind, he snapped a few holos of his own while Rex was distracted and vowed to get them to the senator if Skywalker’s brain cell was too lonely to manage it. “Isn’t it enough that I have this already?”
“Oh, dear me,” a low voice said from behind Cody’s left ear, “I can’t imagine how terrible it must be to have two attractive, attentive lovers who wish to shower you with tokens of their affection. Truly, Captain, your misery must be exquisite.”
Cody turned his head to press a sloppy kiss to Obi-Wan’s cheek in gratitude for the pitiful sound his words had drawn out of his favorite brother.
“General,” Rex whined pathetically, “they keep getting me plants. Alive ones, dead ones, prickly ones, poisonous ones. My quarters are being taken over by non-sentient invaders.”
Obi-Wan made a little noise of patently fake sympathy. “My old master’s quarters were like that as well,” he commiserated, pressing a kiss to the sensitive skin behind Cody’s ear. The noise of the locals around them changed in pitch, but Cody’d had enough to drink over the course of the evening to not feel worried by the change. If he was lucky, Obi-Wan would be shoved into a pretty outfit like this next. “It drove me mad that he never formally answered, let alone turned down, any of the suits. Just let the poor, smitten beings keep sending him gifts. So uncivilized.”
“Speaking of uncivilized,” Cody said, wondering if he could get away with pulling Obi-Wan down onto his lap.
Rex rolled his eyes. “If I don’t get to canoodle in public with my Jedi then you don’t get to with yours,” he huffed, leaning over to push Obi-Wan a few inches away. “Leave room for the Force, sirs.”
“‘Leave room for the Force’?” Obi-Wan repeated, nonplussed, while Cody found himself hung up on, “Canoodle?”
No longer quite so flustered, Rex shrugged. “Skywalker talks like a scandalized opera singer, sometimes, and Ahsoka says that when she catches the lads giving each other a tune-up. How’s the kid doing, by the way?”
“Well,” Obi-Wan said ruefully, “she’s seventeen and in the middle of a war and puberty. Thus far, I believe she’s coped by placing you all in the ‘dear friends and family whom deserve her utmost respect’ category of her mind, rather than allowing herself to see you as attractive young men. Tonight seems to be causing some kind of breakdown in that line of thinking.”
Cody turned to give Rex his full attention and clapped him on the shoulder. “Cheers, vod’ika, keep it up and you might have a full set soon!”
In response, Rex covered his face with both hands and groaned again.
“Remind me to send the good captain some appropriate literature about age of consent laws, would you, dear?” Obi-Wan murmured into his ear. He most assuredly was not leaving room for the Force between them. “Until then, I believe you mentioned being uncivilized?”
Cody made a mental note to remind him as requested before standing up, bowing at the local assembly, and following Obi-Wan wherever he led.

Bar Nights
summary: tom reflects on will being the only one with the ability to somewhat hold his liquor.
word count: 1.3k (wow i forgot i could write that much)
warnings: tom
Beer bottles clinked in the bartender’s hands as he set them down in front of the group of men at the bar. It felt like the first night in centuries that all five men could just get together and let loose. Every week, one or two of them had to bail. One week, it was a family emergency, some chick from ten years ago hooked one of the guys up with concert tickets another. Saying they missed each other would be an understatement, and their behavior at the bar told the entire story too well.
Ben, true to his personality, was hooting and hollering already, grabbing the attention of the five women that sat a couple tables away. Any normal, sober guy would be tripping over their feet trying to get one of them home---too bad he was too tipsy to notice any of them. Frankie had a tipsy arm slung around Pope's shoulder as he told another nonsense story about one of his ex-girlfriends. Obviously, he wasn’t too worried about his audience, as the only two people in his vicinity danced in between drunken, dry answers and sips of beer. Tom was tapping at the empty beer in front of him, silently waiting for a text back from Tess about her performance. Since Molly kicked him out of their lives completely, Tom had been trying to get better. Less drinking, more father-ing, but that didn’t stop him from having a beer or two while watching his friends bounce off of the walls. Will was pretty much sober. Most nights, he was running damage control on his rowdy brother, picking up chairs and tables that he had knocked over on the way to the bathroom. Tonight had been no different. Only, this time, he’d been stopping periodically to take sips of the beer he brought with him.
“Looks like a wild ride,” a small, but secure voice spoke from the space behind the bar.
Tom’s head lifted from his phone so he could see the bartender, whose eyes had left the man in front of him, and followed Ben all the way to the cheap karaoke machine that the bar had gotten a few weeks back. A small grunt left Tom’s mouth, the closest thing to a laugh that someone outside of his friend group had been able to give him in months.
“They’re something,” Tom sighed before taking a swig of the new beer he had just been handed, “but they’re family, you know?”
The seemingly simple understanding between the two men paved the way to a lengthy conversation about what was going on in their lives at the moment. During which, Will came back to place down his newly-empty bottle of beer, and Santiago and Frankie left to go talk to the only girls left at the bar. It hadn’t been long at all since they had begun speaking, but it was sometime in between Benny’s third song and his dazzling duet with Frankie that their venue of the night became deserted.
“I get it,” the bartender replied to some boring ass joke that Tom had picked up from one of the guys in his unit. “You guys army or marines?”
Tom froze slightly at his sudden read of them, but the alcohol in his system wouldn’t let him stay tense for more than a few seconds. A nervous breath left his lips before he asked, “How did you read us that fast?”
“I had my hunch the minute you guys walked in, if we’re being honest,” the bartender said as he began to wipe down the bar, “Soldiers are always easy to spot, especially groups of them. But your friend singing karaoke back there? He’s swinging his dog tags over his head like a lasso.”
Tom looked over his shoulder, and couldn’t help but crack a half-smile at the scene behind him. Ben had his dancing feet on some empty table with his tags in one hand and the scraps of his shirt in the other. Somehow, he had found Tom looking at him, and Ben gave him the biggest, most sincere smile a person could give with the same amount of alcohol in their system as he did.
“Wooooooohooo! Come on, Redfly!” Ben hollered from across the small bar. “You’re missing all the fun!”
“There is no fun! Not while you’re up there!” Will’s voice followed his brother’s, and Tom’s eyes soon found him standing underneath the table his brother was on, arms outstretched, and a weary look on his face. Tom chuckled at Will’s attempt to prevent him from breaking any of the bones in his body. The bond between those two was strong, but Benny was like a wild bull: wild and controlled by no one.
Pope and Frankie came stumbling into the chairs that they were sitting in before they got up. Pope was sitting on the fence that separated tipsy and intoxicated, while Fish probably had just as much to drink as Ben did. It was times like these that Tom appreciated Will and Santiago’s natures, and their high tolerance for alcohol. Will had Ben in some sort of a headlock, and dragged him over towards their friends.
“Ya’ think that fish wanna keep us in little bowls with castles in ‘em?” Benny asked no one in particular, his smooth accent refusing to be overshadowed by the drunken slur of his words.
“Only as much as dogs wanna put us on a leash,” Frankie shot back at Ben. His arms were lazily slapping at Santiago in between some of his words: a demonstration of his pseudo-violent method of trying to get him to move from the only spot in between Catfish and his half-empty beer. If Santiago had one more sip of whatever he was drinking at the start of their night out, then maybe he would have given into the only man in the room that was shorter than him.
It took some effort and time to subdue the drunken Frankie, but once he did, he spoke, “The two of you geniuses gotta stay away from each other for the rest of night.”
“Yeah,” Will wasted no time adding, “We don’t need bright ideas from your shared brain cell anytime soon. We’ll let you know if we do.”
“Only if you pinky promise that we’ll be the first people you tell.” Frankie spoke once again.
“Or else,” Benny added quickly. The two men shoving their pinkies toward the two men trying to separate them. After sharing a look that only a semi-sober man could understand, they begrudgingly honored the pinky promise.
The entire exchange between the four other guys in the group made Tom chuckle a bit as he collected the proper shares from each guy. He himself was in no way sober, but watching the two guys get drunk off their asses and make pinky promises made him feel like they were back at the base again. Just them against the world.
As he struggled to help Will with Benny’s jacket, he realized that he had been wrong during his recent years living as a civilian. For the longest time, Tom Davis truly believed that he was broken, and that the only thing that could possibly fix him was a gun in his hands. That had never been the truth. Sure, the towering veteran had more than his fair share of issues, and was an asshole to almost everyone he had come into contact with, but it was nights like these that reminded him that he was not a completely broken-down, batshit crazy human being. He was just a guy who was missing a couple of pieces after coming home from war.

Survey #362
(this is actually from yesterday but i never posted it and now i don’t feel like updating the answers, so yeah)
Have you ever been cheated on? No. Who’s car were you last in? My mom's. Have you ever thought about getting your nose pierced? It's been pierced multiple times, but each time the hole closed after my piercings had to be taken out at the psych hospital. The final time though, it closed because the damn stud fell out in my sleep for the billionth time, I couldn't find it, and I let it close out of annoyance. Have your parents ever smoked pot? My dad has. Do you tend to make relationships complicated? I mean, I don't think so. I hope not. Are you good at giving directions? NO. Like, I can't. I would accidentally lead you to the middle of the ocean. Would your mom care if she found condoms in your room? She'd be confused as fuck because I live with her so she knows for sure I'm not seeing anyone. Did you speak to your father today? No. Did you kiss someone before you were sixteen? No, it was actually a month after turning 16. Could you go a day without eating? Nooo. I've said before and I'll say it again, I don't deal with abdominal pain well, so yeah. Are your nails always painted? They never are. Have you ever met any bands/band members before? No. What color is your hair? Boring 'ole brown. .-. Your best friend needed somewhere to stay, could they live with you? She absolutely could. I know Mom would welcome her without hesitation. Have you danced in the rain? No. When you said something naughty when you were little, did your parents wash out your tongue with soap? No, but it was threatened. What do you think of spanking little children when they do something wrong? Okay or not? No, it is absolutely not okay. You do not teach children through fear, ever, nor do you show children that it is ever okay to hit people when you're upset. Who was the last male you hung out with? Uhhh, I think Girt? I haven't truly hung out with a guy in a long time. Who is your favorite person to text? Sara. Who did you last take a picture with? My sister. What’s your favorite brand of jeans? I don't have one. Which show is better: Spongebob or The Fairly Odd Parents? The latter. Both can be funny, but Cosmo cracks me up. Has anyone ever told you that you looked like someone else? I actually think the only time I was ever compared to someone else (make-believe, at that) was when I dressed up for Halloween one year and a friend told me I looked like Eileen Galvin from Silent Hill 4: The Room. Do you enjoy the sound of crickets at night and birds in the morning? Yesssss. Who is the most overrated singer? Idk, I don't even know who's "in" right now. What is your favourite planet? Saturn. Do you have any pets that you had since you were born? No. Do you own anything that you had when you were a baby? Yes, stored away. Do you enjoy Mario games? Mario Kart is fun, but otherwise I'm not a massive fan. What’s your favorite online game? World of Warcraft. Have you ever been hit with a ball in gym class? I think so. I was always terrified of the days we got to play dodgeball or whatever, like that shit hurts. Do you ever turn your cell phone off? No. Who was last to cook for you? My ma. Do you check your texts right away when you receive them? Usually. Who is your most trusted person? My mom, probably. How late did you stay up last night? God, I don't even know. Last night was my sleep study, and I was so uncomfortable in that bed that I slept maybe only an hour or two. Hell, or less. I also couldn't sleep on my stomach, which really didn't help because that's always how I sleep. I'm exhausted now and have such a headache. When/where are you most likely to sing? In the car, I guess. I very rarely sing anywhere. Would you ever wish to explore a cave? FUCK YES. You see the person you fell hardest for. What do you do? Panic like a motherfucker internally, avoid eye contact, and try to evade him (not like he'd actually pursue me) without being too obvious. Have you been/are you depressed? Both. Are your pop-ups blocked on your computer? Yes. Have you ever ridden in a car with someone who was high? Yes, because I was afraid to tell her I didn't want. Thank fuck we got home safe. I was absolutely, positively terrified we'd be pulled over. Who is the best hugger you know? Ha, actually the person I just mentioned. Have you ever had to be put to sleep for an operation? Yes. Does anybody have any proof of stupid things you have done? Oh, Facebook comments... Why did you text the last person in your inbox? I was replying to my mom. Have you ever been able to do a split? No. Did you ever date the last person you kissed? Yes. Are you intimidated by the last person you know talked badly about you? She doesn't "intimidate" me, no. She just gets on my last goddamn nerve every time she opens her mouth. Have you ever cried in school? Yes. Last person of the opposite sex you screamed at? I've never screamed at a guy because I'm afraid of them. I've sobbed at Jason, so like my voice was raised, but it definitely wasn't screaming. Do you have any weird sleep habits? Well, speaking of screaming, my nightmares have me shrieking in the middle of most nights. I also talk in my sleep like, a lot. Do you consider yourself an emotional person? Very. When was the last time you had a headache? This morning, I'm sure because of how shitty I slept. When was the last time you encountered a puppy? Prepare for a rant... We have one right now, even though our landlord told us specifically no puppies because of all the housetraining they require. My mom has been wanting a dog, and Tobey finally agreed to it, and she's been looking for a while. So my sister Ashley randomly shows up with a stray puppy a friend was keeping, terrified and LOADED with ticks, and she's reminding Mom and I why we DON'T WANT A PUPPY. She's peeing everywhere BUT outside (specifically on a stupid fucking expensive carpet that Tobey will have a cow over just ONE stain), is terrorizing my cat, and has an overwhelming amount of energy. Ashley specifically told me that if Mom doesn't let Ash know, I needed to tell her if the puppy was stressing Mom out, "because this isn't supposed to be a stressful experience for her." Well, she's been sobbing again and again and I literally just came back mid-question from comforting her because she broke down so hard she could barely breathe because now she had diarrhea on the fucking carpet. Ashley's all bitchy now about it for no apparent or even remotely valid reason, and by God do I want to cuss her the fuck out over this bull she brought on. Safe to say we're not keeping the dog, but not quickly enough. When Mom hurts, I hurt, and I am so goddamn furious. Is there anything that happened a long time ago that you still laugh about? Yeah, a number of things. Do you ever try to interpret your dreams? No, given I don't believe most have any meaning. It's brain word vomit, lol. What was the last thing you bought impulsively? I don't have the income for impulse purchases. When I get money, what I'm after is well-planned. How do you feel about singing songs out loud in front of other people? I don't, usually. I'm very self-conscious about it. When was the last time you were feeling really, really nervous? That nervous, I'm unsure. I've been nervous, sure, but I haven't had a massive anxiety episode in a while. If you’re no longer in school, what is something you miss about it? If you’re still in school, what’s something you think you’re going to miss about it? I miss feeling productive and like I was going at least somewhere. Do you use your turn signals when you’re driving? Yes; I hate when people don't. How exactly are you feeling right now? Mad at my sister. Have you ever had to board up your windows because of a hurricane? No. Do you tell anyone to chew with their mouths closed? No, to avoid "confrontation" that is too negligible to even quality as conflict. I'm just a lil bitch when it comes to stuff like this. Have you ever ordered pizza and sent it to someone else’s house? No. What was the first thing you drank when you woke up this morning? My nurse or whatever her position is (I don't mean that dismissively, I genuinely don't know her title) brought me some orange juice. Do you think stretch marks from having a baby are ugly or badges of honor? Oh my god, fuck off. Anyone who can carry a child for nine months and then endure what I assume is the worst pain (usually) survivable has every ounce of my goddamn respect. The natural result of making room for a like 6+ lb. human being is not "ugly." It's a part of life and to me shows an incredible amount of bravery and love to be willing to go through something I could absolutely never. Ever done a keg stand? Haha, no. My dizzy ass will pass. Who is the last person you lent money to? My mom. Do you share clothing with anyone? Mom and I will share bras or pants sometimes. Have you ever visited anyone in a rehab? No. Was the last thing you drank a Coke or Pepsi product? No, I have lemonade right now. Honestly, do you think that you’re going to be an overprotective parent? IF I wanted to be a parent, I feel like I definitely would be. Not like... overbearing, but still extremely protective in cases I think it's called for. What was the last kind of chips you ate? Veggie chips yesterday, actually. They're honestly not that good, but it's a doable snack with salsa. What is one thing that you really wish you could understand, but don’t? Economics. I dread taking care of my own money because idk what the fuck to do with taxes and such. What is the last thing you charged? My phone. Have you ever held a snake? I've held plenty of snakes, I love them.
