"marn i missed sgdq 2024 what should i watch"
hi i decided i'm doing another one of these. it's been a minute. this past week was summer games done quick, an annual speedrunning marathon raising money for doctors without borders and also a great way to get into watching speedrunning. a lot of their content is tailored towards being both clearly explained and fun to watch for an audience outside the speedrun community, so you can jump in with basically no knowledge besides “this person is gonna play a game really fast”.
gdq has the full week's worth of vods up as a playlist on their channel, but here are some runs that i personally think you should check out:
ken griffy jr presents mlb by peanut butter the dog: look it's a dog playing baseball. i don't know what else to tell you.
the entire silly block: speedrunners get up way too early in the morning/late at night to play games that feel like a fever dream. some of the commentators are going on 24 hours of no sleep. it's brilliant. my personal highlights of what i've seen so far are stuart little 2, mad panic coaster, city bus simulator race, and the golf it wrong hole only race that the players dressed up as golfers for
alan wake 2 alan%: alan wake clips through walls and generally has a bad time while a bunch of gamers call him a sopping wet catboy. the runner for this one is really charismatic and it's very funny to see staff rushing to open up the pit as soon as we sing starts (yes they do the dance of course they do the dance). i just love joyful runs of horror games man
super mario 64 blindfolded randomizer: what if you played mario 64 blindfolded and also the stars were in completely random locations. and also you had to do it very very fast.
kingdom hearts 2 critical any%: every kh2 speedrun i've ever seen is a work of art and this one is no different. some of the boss fights go down so fast you will literally miss them if you look away for a minute. and also two of my favorite runners are on couch commentary!
balatro showcase: genuinely made me rethink how i'm playing some of the balatro decks. also great commentary and just fun all around despite (or perhaps partially because of) the absolute struggle session going on with plasma deck in the beginning
super mario world kaizo relay: kaizo is a shorthand term for a game hacked to its absolute limits of difficulty that often requires strict precision of movement and can punish the player for thinking they're smarter than it. in this segment, two teams of 4 very very good mario runners race to complete 8 kaizo levels they've never seen before in their lives
mario maker 2 troll level race: i always like the mario maker races for the same reason i like the kaizo relays. i love watching two speedrunners thrown blindly into the shit have to make up strategies on the fly via trial and error (and error, and error, and error, and...)
kirby air ride race: two high level kirby air ride speedrunners race for an actual physical title belt. the trash talk game happening here is of the insane variety that only two very skilled people who truly respect each others' talents at their game of choice can provide
kaizo mario galaxy: what if mario galaxy hated you even more than usual and would stop at nothing to kill you. also most of the commentators are only familiar with the vanilla game and their reactions to the added-in bullshit are hysterical
tony hawk pro skater 1, 2, 3, and 4: i fell asleep watching this and woke up in a cold sweat to the sound of a bunch of people singing superman by goldfinger. good run
super mario rpg remake: this was the finale block and it's just great to see a bunch of people who really really love the original mario rpg get to hang out and talk about how good it is and also watch a world record level player absolutely stunt on the game
halo 3 four-player co-op legendary: dudes rock

Tattoo
Read on AO3
***
“Does it hurt” Omega asked, hovering over her brother.
“Nah, it’s fine,” Hunter replied, eyes closed. The buzzing made his brain feel like it was vibrating but there was no pain to speak of. He’d had much worse in battle.
“Like you’d say if it did,” Crosshair said witheringly. “You didn’t even complain when you got that shrapnel in the neck, remember?” He was bent over Hunter’s chest, scraping at the skin with the tattoo gun and aggressively wiping away the blood and excess ink.
Omega gasped, “you got shrapnel in your neck?” she asked Hunter, alarmed.
“Omega doesn’t know that story?” Crosshair said, a toothpick hanging out of the corner of his mouth absentmindedly.
“We didn’t tell her all of them yet. We were kind of preoccupied,”
“But yeah,” he said, turning to Omega. “I had to leave it in until we could get back to base.” He said, moving his hair with his left hand so she could see the slit-like scar on the back of his neck. Omega shook her head at him, sat back down, cross legged on the floor, elbows on her knees, chin in her hand.
“I remember that. Made me feel sick,” Wrecker said. He was next to Omega, scratching Batcher behind the ear. Her collar jingled and her tongue dangled out of the side of her mouth.
Hunter chuckled. The sun was streaming through the window of the small common room.
“What about Skako Minor?” Crosshair asked.
“Are you kidding,” Wrecker said, “that was her bedtime story for a while. Tech and Echo loved telling her that one,” Omega nodded in agreement.
Hunter was stretched out on the couch, arms behind his head. It had been a while since he’d gotten a new tattoo.
He had paid a professional to get his face tattoo and the skeletal outline on the left side of his body, but the others had been done by his brothers. The skull with a 99 in aurebesh on his right bicep was done by Crosshair on a particularly stormy day on Kamino when the ocean looked like it might come through the window of their room.
Tech had inked the Mando’a for brother, ‘Vod’, while scrolling his datapad. Hunter had watched nervously as he waived the gun around wildly while info dumping to the rest of them.
Wrecker hated needles and had a hard enough time being in the room while the tattoo was being done but he had inked a small aurebesh number four just so Hunter could complete the set.
The most recent one he got, before now, was a small Omega symbol on his wrist. He’d gotten it in a dingy underground parlor during a particularly tricky mission while looking for intel on the Pikes. He told Wrecker it was the only way to get the information they needed but he also needed a reminder of what he was fighting for. It was by far his favorite, although he’d never told anyone else that.
The new one, the one Crosshair was painstakingly scratching into his skin on the right side of his chest, was a familiar skull with lightning bolt behind it. Tech had designed it in their cadet days. He drew it everywhere; it was repeated on the back wall of his bunk on Kamino. He had scratched it into the side of his data pad and carefully painted it onto his customized helmet for their first mission.
Hunter was sure Tech would call him sentimental, or at least think it. But it was a way for him to keep his fallen brother close. It would be a reminder every time he got dressed in the morning. A reminder of what this life on Pabu had cost.
“Did you tell her about windsurfing on the Keeradaks on Skako?” Crosshair asked Hunter, throwing an amused look at Omega.
Hunter laughed, “I’d forgotten about that,” he said.
“Tech didn’t, he was cursing the entire trip to retrieve you,”
“Really?” Hunter said, surprised.
Wrecker laughed, “yeah, said you’d dropped your only braincell during that trip.
They all laughed, that kind of laughter that filled a room. It was boisterous, childish laughter, the kind that only siblings could share. Except, there was one missing. The realization seemed to hit them all at once and the joy was sucked out of the air.
Crosshair finished up the last section of the lightning bolt. He pulled back, cocking his head to the side to take in his work. Hunter looked down. The lines weren’t as straight as they could have been. Crosshair was still getting used to his prosthetic hand, but his painting had come such a long way that Hunter thought his brother was ready to get back to his first love. He had loved tattooing so much he’d even help the Regs out on occasion when they were on Kamino. It had taken some convincing but after a few weeks of Hunter’s unwavering confidence in his abilities, it finally seemed to take hold.
As he checked his new ink out in the mirror, Hunter noticed a slight tremor in Crosshair’s prosthetic hand. He narrowed his eyes in concern but said nothing.
“Omega said you went to Kashyyyk,” he said quietly.
Hunter traded looks with Wrecker who was now bench pressing Gonky in the corner. Omega looked at Hunter in concern.
“Ah, yeah. We did. Found a young Wookie. A jedi, actually…we…ah…took him home.”
“I always liked Kashyyyk,” Crosshair said, looking at anywhere but directly at Hunter. “It was our first mission.”
“Yeah,” Hunter said, sitting on the couch closer to his brother and resting his hand on his shoulder. “We’ll go back again, someday.” He added reassuringly. He had expected Crosshair to shrug off his hand like he often did. He wasn’t one for sentimentality, at least, he didn’t used to be. But they sat there for a few moments in silence.
“I missed a lot.” Crosshair said, his voice low and gravely.
Hunter, Wrecker and Omega traded glances again. The warmth and joy that had been on his face earlier had disappeared, replaced with a grimace. The ever-present toothpick in his mouth left an indent in his lip as he pressed his mouth into a thin line.
“But you’re here now,” Omega said reassuringly getting up and giving him a hug.
Crosshair raised his eyes and gave her a halfhearted smile.
“Are you ready for yours?” Hunter asked Crosshair, trying to change the subject.
“That depends, have you gotten any better since the last one?”
Hunter laughed, “probably not. But unless you want Wrecker to have a go, I’m your best bet.”
“I’ll do it,” Omega said hopefully.
“No,” Hunter and Crosshair replied in unison. Omega sighed and rolled her eyes.
Crosshair sighed dramatically and pulled up the sleeve of his shirt, “fine.” He sat down on the floor, right forearm stretched out over the coffee table.
Hunter was taken aback. Crosshair wanted the tattoo near the stump where his right hand should be. He gave a questioning look to Wrecker who just shrugged.
“Are you sure that’s where you want it?” He asked in a would-be casual tone.
Crosshairs eyes narrowed, “Yes. I have to look at it every day anyway. Might as well put something there I wanna see.”
The answer satisfied Hunter. He shrugged and set about cleaning and setting up the new equipment. It had been a long time since he had done this.
They spent the afternoon huddled in the common room, regaling Omega with stories of old missions, laughing, teasing each other and sometimes sitting in silence except for the buzzing of the tattoo gun. The vibration in his hand tickled his senses and Hunter had to pause often to flex his fingers. Hunter was satisfied with how the skull and lightning bold looked, given his lack of experience, but Crosshair’s was definitely better.
The sun was starting to set outside. The amber glow of Pabu’s evening light display would spring to life any minute.
“What about it, Wrecker?” Hunter asked.
“Oh, ah…yeah, okay,”
“Really?” Hunter asked, surprised, “you really don’t have to.”
Wrecker had been scared of needles since he was a cadet. No real surprise given the amount of testing he and his brothers had to endure.
“No, I want to. I mean, I don’t, but Tech would do the same for me,”
He and Crosshair shared a look but set about making it happen. Wrecker sat on the couch as Crosshair worked on a small version of Tech’s design on his bicep. Hunter and Omega tried to keep Wrecker distracted. He would occasionally wince, but Omega would hold his hand or offer him a snack and his face would soften.
By the time Wrecker’s was done it was completely dark outside. They set about cleaning up, getting things tidied up and dinner on the go. Wrecker took lead on the latter.
“Hunter?” Omega asked quietly, “can I get that tattoo?”
Hunter had been afraid of this. Omega wanted nothing but to copy her brothers, it was no surprise she wanted a tattoo like them as well.
“Ah, you know kid…” he looked at her big brown eyes, hair flopping over her forehead and cascading down her back. “I think you’re a little young…”
“I’m older than all of you,” she said, hand on her hips, a confident grin on her lips.
Hunter looked over at Crosshair for support. He just shrugged. Hunter knew how much Tech meant to her and how affected she was by his death. He paused for a moment and ran his hands through his hair.
“You know what kid, you’re right. Sure. What were you thinking?”
Omega jumped up and down with glee and Hunter’s heart felt like it was going to burst. He really would do anything for this girl.
The sun had completely set by the time it was done. The skin on her wrist was red except for the heavy black ink. A skull with a lightning bolt behind it. Just like her brothers.

Time Loop Headcanon
Glasses clink for a toast. The sour taste of whiskey goes down Fox's throat with a smoothness he doesn't feel. Laughter rings around the table as Rex spills his drink down his shirt.
White teeth gleam in the dark bar from clones all around celebrating the death of the Sith and the start of a new beginning.
Fox watches his brothers with detached delight and wonders why a piece of him feels missing.
He sets his glass down, a small clink clouded out by the music pouring through the place.
He slides out easily with a comment of "getting some air" towards Cody to prevent him from following. He exits 79s with more than one shove, wiping at a stain on dress uniform. It shouldn't matter but still he grimaces at the sight.
"Stupid shinies," he mutters, shaking his head.
A clatter from the side of the building has him pausing. Fox tilts his head and debates. It's his day-off; he's not technically on duty and therefore, whatever is there is not his responsibility. A phantom crushing on his heart, a ghost breeze to his hand: it has curiosity building in his veins.
"Hello?" Fox calls out, walking slowly towards the sound. His hand goes to his belt and he inwardly curses at the lack of a blaster there.
"Who's there?"
In for a credit, in for a mile.
The shadows of the alleyway does little to hide the body standing there. His cloak however doesn't. It covers the person's face and a glance down shows his hands nowhere to be seen. Fox swallows and chances on the hope that he won't be killed immediately.
"Are you okay?" Fox can tell by the leaning of their body weight on the wall that they must not be in the best of shape. "Do you need help?" He's sure there must be a medic somewhere in the bar. Would they be sober?
Probably not but better than nothing, he supposes.
"Kot'e." Fox stops at the word. The head raises just a bit for a line of gold to pass through. "That was your brother's name before he changed it."
Fox's heart skips at the words. At the non-Vod voice that emitted it. Only the Vod'e know about that, and even then, it's not many who remember it.
"Ruse," he starts again, "was the name you wanted but-"
"Who are you?" Fox doesn't ask so much as demands.
The natborn grunts, their steps unsteady. The urge to reach out has Fox's fingers twitching but he holds back. He doesn't know this man.
"You told me," he stops. Starts again. "I thought-" he mumbles before huffing. Huffs then lets out a choked laugh. "Doesn't matter." he says loud enough for Fox to hear. "It never matters."
Fox isn't fast enough to stop his fall when he crumbles to the ground. His hood comes off, dark locks spread in a halo. For a darker man, he's pale and it surprises Fox to see blood when he lifts his hand back up.
He presses against the wound and the man grunts in pain. Fox opens his mouth to yell, call for a medic or help, or anything, but the man shakes his head.
"No." The word has Fox's teeth clinking together in a shut. "Please."
Fox can't move his hands to do the actions needed to stop the bleeding, to make it better.
He knows basic first aid and yet...his mind is blank. Completely blank. Except for the dark eyes that meet his.
It's the most beautiful color he's ever seen.
A tear slips down his cheek and the man chuckles. "'I've never seen you cry before."
Fox shakes his head slowly. "We've never met before." Despite the anonymity of this natborn, grief squeezes Fox's heart like a vice.
The man smiles slow, half-formed almost.
"Now that’s a lie." He swallows a cough, his chest rising in protest. "We're meeting right now." Fox hates the blood that splatters his teeth.
"Besides," he starts up again. "I know all about you." Fox raises a hand to the man's cheek when he coughs again and he leans into it as though he's been deprived of touch. "You're Commander Fox of the Coruscant Guard. Best soldier the Corries have and worst cook to ever step on Coruscant."
The chuckle that Fox lets out does nothing to stop the sob that comes after. Only his batch knows of his disastrous skill.
"Who are you?" He asks again and the man breathes through his nose.
He doesn't answer for several moments and Fox wonders if he ever will.
"If I tell you, will you promise not to leave?" Fox furrows his brows but nods nonetheless.
The man smiles. "Quinlan Vos. I married you three time loops ago."
Fox blinks. No clone has rights to their own body much less to marry. He's never met this man before tonight; nor, with a quick glance to the man's hand, does the man carry a ring.
Thoughts rush through Fox's head, question after question despite his analytics to the phrase.
Yet the only thing Fox can think to ask is "what's a time loop?"
The man laughs. Coughs again, blood staining his chin and Fox's dress uniform. "Hopefully, nothing you'll be caught in."
The man curls into himself as the next wave of coughs leave his shaking, and blood pours from the unknown wound.
It's this that snaps Fox out of his thoughts and he grabs the cloak to press against where he thinks the blood is coming from. "Medic!" He screams, and the man bitterly laughs at the call.
Fox's continuous yells gather enough clones to create action. A medic who's stupid drunk chugs water in an attempt to sober up but all it causes is puking and shouts.
Desperation digs into Fox's veins and he tries to stop his cries from being frantic. He can't crack.
He has to be calm. He has to help.
Why did he not call for help sooner?
"It's no use," the man says despite being crowded by useless clones. He pulls Fox close, hands shaking on his collar. He pulls Fox close enough to whisper in his ear. "I'm glad I got to love you, Ruse."
Fox's hands don't stop shaking for days.

cellbit and melissa will never not be funny to me like that's clearly his husband and he just doesn't get it. and roier tries so hard to flirt with him while dressed up but he's just not interested
like I'm rewatching the wedding vod and it's like, cellbit's not even looking, he's on his phone so I'm just imagining him on his phone in the club while his husband is trying so damn hard to get his attention
and its both frustrating and endearing for roier because he has such a loyal, loving husband but he also really wants his damn attention

WOW!
Our interview with Jason Ritter was an incredible event. The man came to us, sat down in person, read the chat, spoke to people, and dressed in his full fucking Dipper outfit?! We had so many great questions, had a really informative chat and do you know what, it was incredible just how much of a Gravity Falls obsessive he really is. I've never met a man so passionate about the show.
We've got an edited VOD coming soon with captioned audio (we had a few audio skips) but before then, we do have an instant stream that Wynn, one of our amazing members, recorded for us.
Jason told us everything from his favourite quotes and episodes, to meeting fans at conventions, to the Cipher hunt, to his feelings on Dipcifica. He was so, so patient with our fans so direct with us, and gave us SO many revelations that you'll need to hear it yourself to find out more.
He left us with this gem:
Then gave us this beautiful parting message while just kinda hanging around chat for a while.
He was without a doubt the friendliest, most enthusiastic, humble and engaging man I've ever interviewed, and I was a music journalist for a decade. What an incredible experience.
I'm incredibly proud of us. To have a Hollywood actor come on LIVE to talk to us about a silly little show from ten years ago? Insane. Absolutely bonkers. Crackers, even.
The Gravity Falls fandom is still kicking, still amazing, and YOU made it all real.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and I hope everyone will be listening when we get our edit together!
