Day 27: Snow

A small painting tucked into a worn album of similar paintings. The cover of the album is worn leather made shiny by many hands over the years.

All of the paintings are of the convent's errant daughter through the years. The most recent a sledding scene with her karakul companion and those moths.

Tucked at the back of the book is a bundle of letters. Each from Odette, each detailing one of the painted adventures.

#is this tmi? oh well. this is the tmi website #trichotillomania #dermatillomania #onychophagia #bfrb #body focused repetitive behavior #ocd #guys guess what? my therapist all but prescribed that i get a manicure to prevent picking at my skin #apparently after a year with this therapist i never mentioned my finger picking until this week #and she was like 'ok since you find it tough to paint them yourself get a manicure. self care and preventative'#because my cuticles are horrific due to me constantly picking at them and the sides of my fingers #so i've always been too embarrassed to go to a nail salon and my therapist was like 'exposure therapy!'#currently my nails are sloppily painted because i can't hold a brush still and they're already chipping after like 5 days #actually they probably started chipping on the second day honestly.#i need to redo my twists a bit which actually satisfies the trich urges since i'll be running my fingers through my hair to do it #but i won't actually be pulling. but also. i will be getting the shed hairs out. so. kind of fulfills that.#but right now my nails are long enough for me to feel them sometimes hit my keyboard. which. isn't normal for me.#and despite the nail polish i feel the urge to bite them shorter ahhhhh #anyway if you're Black with natural hair and have trich i HIGHLY suggest mini twists since it helps deter me from pulling #sure i have to redo it every few weeks but seriously. game changer. harder to find individual hairs to pull.

I'm rewatching Alex Rider for like the 7th time but with my boyfriend and guys season 2 is so fucking good SEASON 2 IS SOOO GOOD

Alex being such a cheeky brat with the department and Alan Blunt losing his mind because Alex is being so clever and annoying

The slowly building mystery with all the pieces that gradually come together

Alex and Kyra being so cute with the washer and "survivors club" and "keeping score" of who has saved each other's life the most (and the end scene where he's looking up at her from the stage🥹😭)

Jack having her own storyline that actually serves the story and gives her character a purpose

Tom and Kyra both helping to progress the plot in ways that are genuinely required from them and makes sense for their characters

The subtle hints that Yassen is going to wind up helping Alex in the end, the way his character gradually becomes more complex with each episode

Alex just generally being so smart, so resourceful, so capable and just really encompassing his character, not to mention the genuine depth that comes from his trauma + him accidentally getting people killed over the course of the season (Blunt telling him he has blood on his hands)

The tension that builds within The Department as Smithers and Mrs. Jones start keeping secrets from Blunt about Alex

Damian Cray just getting absolutely dogpiled by Alex and the gang who just keep screwing over his plan again and again

Alex and Yassen FINALLY having a full conversation and it holds so much weight and hits so good

The part where Sabina cracks Anders over the head with her own laptop (honorable mention)

All the cheeky light hearted bits where the kids are just being shitheads with too much power, like cutting off the electricity to the whole postal code just to use the computer lab

And then on the flip the angst that comes from literally no one believing Alex about anything for like 60% of the season

It's just scene after scene of "oH THIS PARTS SO GOOD" and it doesn't stop until the very end

has it been long enough that I can say that season 3 just doesn't hit the same😭

#alex rider #season 3 is okay but the characters do so much shit just to serve the plot and it doesn't make any sense sometimes and idk what happened #Julia Rothman (and Nile) is like caricature evil villain and it's too obvious and Alex would NOT trust her he's way too smart #They should have made her way more charming and likeable to the point where even the audience is wondering if she's good #Alex and Kyra's relationship gets weird and forced and it makes no sense that Kyra instantly turns on him and decides he's a killer #Jack does nothing Tom's brother does nothing Tom and Kyra barely do anything #Yassen does a bunch of stuff that makes no sense to me absolutely hate that they made him lie to Alex #The Department gets painted way too much as “the good guys” by the end #Alex becomes very emotional and it clouds his judgement but we haven't seen him slowly get there over the course of the show #He sort of just sees that video then gets there all at once right off the bat and then makes dumb decisions the entire season #anyways blah blah I'll shut up now it's still my favorite show in the entire world forever and ever #season 3 was still the event of the year for me and one of the most fun weeks of my life #but season 2 u will always be famous..

"Penelope has insecurities!" As an excuse for her harming others because of those said insecurities falls very flat when it puts the character's, who live during a time of few options especially if you were a women, at risk. And even with her insecurities, her lashing out and hurting people should be held in the same regard as how some view Cressida, who didn't get the luxury of a view into her home life until s3, unlike Penelope, and while it still has people calling out this behavior, although rightfully so, it often still includes denying that Penelope needs to take accountability as well.

#some on twitter said how in fandom yt characters will get a pass for hurting other characters just bc of their insecurities #which is very true when you look at how some to this day still talk about marina with a lot of misogynoir rhetoric just to defend pen #like how can you say “support morally grey or complex female characters” but then shit on marina left & right while erasing/woobifying pen'#own complexities? it doesn't make sense #i would find pen much more enjoyable if her complexities were acknowledged and the harm she did was called out & corrected #but i can't even enjoy spaces like that without some of her fans jumping into the frey and painting it as a crime against them #if you reflect that heavily on a character that's fine but don't get mad when other people don't see it the same way as you #especially poc who have to see pen not only call a kate (and simon) “beast” or constantly make petty brutal remarks about queen charlotte #for no reason as well as use abliest remarks to refer to the king george who suffers a debilitating mental illness #there was no reason for her to do all of that besides being deeply insecure that it makes her harm others who don't even know her #calling that out isn't a bad thing 😭#and yeah while i like/enjoy cressida i can call her out for her behavior toward pen & others even tho i understand it #i could even do the same for pen but see my prior points #the “let female characters be complex” crowd are (not always but sometimes) the first to remove these complexities and it's frustrating!#anti penelope featherington #bridgerton #pen stans don't interact bc this clearly says anti #made this post after people on twitter got on my nerves & created sob stories that ain't never happened just to make whitewash pen

there is some symbolism iv never considered in that one episod of pt5 where zenigata rescues fujiko before she kills lupin

#there are many timelines and variations in lupin as a serie so that every ship could work #in my own prefered timeline lupin finally gets the hint that fujiko plays him like a fiddle #to me she does like him but he is an instrument to her #she is cold hearted and calculating and always thinking about relationships in terms of profit #i got some ideas abt her background that justify this. essentially she kills the detective that is after her and with that kills #the soft part of her that she couldnt control before #eventually and despite his affection lupin gives up the objectifications and the desires he projects onto fujiko #whom uses his delusions like a master tbh #thus allowing himself to consider zenigata. he plays with zenigata the way fujiko plays with him #hes just not as calculating. he feels pity and remorse where fujiko doesnt #he finds the thrills and the doubts and the lack of trust and the risk of betrayal in zenigata. the things that he loves the most #he isnt about stability. he thrives in the unknown. he loves that zenigata could backstab him and does so sometimes #and in that lack of stabilty some form of stability builds up. there is familiarity #and most importantly there are rare times when they can put the game aside and just chill #just enough to gather the energy to go back to trying to kill each other #plus zenigata pampers him during those breaks and he loves that #he acts with carelessness but he does care. in that regard he looses to fujiko #at least thats how she sees it. he doesnt see caring as a flaw #and zenigata is so sweet. he really is. and lupin loves to stirr up the crazy in him #fucking loonies the both of them #so in essence zenigata doesnt really 'save' him from fujiko but he becomes lupins new favourite toy to throw around #fujiko is only upset that because of that ugly looser of a detective her grip on lupin is loosening #she does find ways to use that newly developed affection luzeni has to her advantage thou #lupin is still her instrument she just drags zenigata along now #fujiko is such a good and interesting character and deserves so much better honestly #despite my love for TWCFM i wish there was another serie centralized around her where her ruthlessness is examined #and her cunning is studied. and the proper law enforcement she should face the same way lupin does #shes like a million times smarter and more ressourceful than him. steals much more. embezzles. manipulate #lupin is just a small time pickpocket next to her. she isnt about stealing a painting shes about emptying the pockets of the richest men in #the world. her goals are much more ambitious

#SPOILERS im gonna talk about my thoughts. vaguely #god administrator looks so good in like every single scene. the three panels where she [redacted] AAAAAGGHH #i think that's my favourite composition from the issue. maybe in the whole series.#it's definitely lacking in polish compared to issue 6 but in issue 6 literally every panel was a painting. so really this has been a return #to form. in the style of the first couple issues. and i think the style and colouring still look great.#GOD the opening. the opening. i love it so much. tf2 has such insanely good artists and writers for an objectively stupid as hell story #i love that the mercs get to retire. its so fitting for the time this issue is coming out in #they've been replaced by a new generation of team fighting games and that's okay....what's the matter mags....you wanna live forever...?#i had a lot of expectations for how pauling and administrator's arcs were going to go and im quite satisfied honestly.#idk tf2 can get away with a lot of bullshit just because of it's tone. i think pauling realizing that the reality she was in was just.#Fundamentally Stupid. on every level. and that's okay. that was really good. We need to start treating bad writing like bad art and im not kidding

#now theres a lot more nuance to this #because “bad writing” is SUPER general #so i have to add a disclaimer #i dont mean propoganda. i dont mean biased and biggoted #i mean writing decisions u dont like!#ppl are very quick to just sit there and shit on writers #its okay to not like an ending. its okay to not like how a character was treated #and its okay to be mad about it if u like them very dearly #but at the same time sometimes we're a little too mean.#and sometimes they deserve it #but sometimes it's a little mean #this is. in truth. because of the lumine ending #on webtoon #its pissing me off how ppl are getting super upset and being rude to kabu #even tho so many ppl are explaining its because she grew out of the story. she didnt have passion for it anymore #she gave us an ending! you dont have to like it but stop acting like just because she COULD write more that she HAS to write more #art is tiring. sometimes you lose passion for it. sometimes you dont do it perfectly #sometimes your idea of good isnt the same as someone else's #i dont like romance for example. several tropes will turn me off it #but some ppl do #sometimes you make a pretty shitty plot or make plot holes #and yeah those arent super great to read!!! but a story is an art. its all different #its not all good and its not all bad #its made from a persons head therefore it'll reflect a person in a way #i just think its important to remember that writers are not machines #artists and writers aren't actually as different as everyone treats them #we're all making art. we're all making mistakes. i just think we should be a little nicer about it #its okay to criticize. but can we be nice about it #also i dont like the “professional author” argument #picasso was a famous artist his paintings are in meuseums and there's still people who don't like his art. i dont think its fair to go

Giacomo doesn't wear makeup, he just has darker eyelids. Mainly because they looked that way in the art of him as president, and I refuse to believe that the guy policing men's hair length was wearing eyeshadow

#strato.txt #oil painting #wip #im worried ive unbalanced the composition w the second one on the right tho... its so much closer to the edge #ugh whatever. aunt lizzie is the focus here #i wish i knew what she actually looked like this is just cobbled together from general features of my family #solid build... dark curly hair... bigass ears. she could be one of my cousins. she could be me #ok rq im gonna lay out the story in the tags for anyone who hasnt seen the previous lizzie art #my great-something aunt lizzie was disabled and couldnt walk very well and she died young #she wanted to see the second floor of the farm house real bad but no one ever carried her up there and she died before seeing it #they buried her in a long white dress somewhere down at the creek. we dont know where her graves lost unfortunately #the night she was buried something wearing a white dress walked into the house and up the stairs and disappeared #and sometimes you can hear her down around the creek screaming #somewhere along the line wolves got mixed into the imagery for me #my uncle told me a story about another 'white thing' that was wolfish and would jump on cars #so i just assumed lizzie was a werewolf my whole life #anyways. i think her staying after she died was a manifestation of her desire for autonomy. maybe #maybe if shed had modern accommodations she wouldnt have felt the need to stick around. or maybe she would have idk #either way i think death afforded her control over her own desires in a way she hadnt experienced before #and i think thats why she still hangs around the creek #i hope she would like this. maybe ill take it down there and leave it out for a night when its finished so she can see

While Michael's tragedy obviously isn't the same as Book's in that she still has a number of loved ones with her, I'm surprised there isn't more textual acknowledgement that neither of them can ever see their families again

#i mean it's still not quite the same bc michael does still have gabrielle #but her bio dad and the s'chn t'gais are lost to her forever #and while her relationship with mirror georgiou is complicated and i wouldn't exactly call her her mother #i do think michael considered her family and now she's gone too #this of course can't compare to being the last of your species #but that's an incredibly rare status that i don't think book has too many peers with #so someone with as much tragedy and isolation in her life as michael is i think the closest he has for comparison #and while i love disco very much #it's emotional beats can sometimes be a bit paint by the numbers #so I'm surprised they don't connect these numbers more #michael burnham #cleveland booker #dsc

#i don't know if ill actually make a post about this but i just need to rant about it #with the stuff going on with bl*ke l*vely and j*stin b*ldoni #where i feel like people are still not getting the point regarding institutional misogyny and media backlash #where when it ends with us came out #there was a lot of criticism of blake due to how she marketed the film considering there was the whole ''grab your florals and watch the #domestic abuse movie'' thing and the launching a hairline off of it and the whole thing with her husband's gin company and a whole thing #where they were naming alcoholic drinks after things in the movies which is batshit insane and inappropriate #and there was talk about her and her husband crossing the picket line during the writers' strike #and all of that is very fair criticism #but of course twitter had people scouring the web for any time shed seemingly done anything wrong to shame her for #which is not fair criticism and amounted to a hate mob #and meanwhile her costar justin seemed to be actually taking the subject seriously i think #tbh idk much about the whole one versus the other thing like i was not comparing her to him so i cant talk specifics about how he handled it #but in a lawsuit its now come out that he was incredibly inappropriate and seemingly abusive on set of the film and hired the same PR crisis #team as j*hnny d*pp when that trial was happening #and that there was a targeted media push to smear her name #and obviously there is a very important point here regarding how willing people are to go after women for doing anything wrong #and how pervasive misogyny is #but im also now seeing people turning around and being like ''see! she didn't do anything wrong at all! shes innocent!''#and okay like. thats not true though #the way she handled domestic abuse during the marketing for the film was in fact inappropriate and very fucking insulting as someone #personally affected by domestic abuse #even if she was instructed to market it that way by the production company she is a grown woman who could have said no and not done that #there is still worthwhile criticism of how she handled it to be made and trying to paint over that is not only insulting but also missing #the entire fucking point #which is that women who are not perfect victims are still victim of this oervasive misogyny within the industry and society at large #and that it is still worthwhile to talk about it and side with them in this regard #saying that people were ''witch hunting'' her for the crime of ''being annoying'' is factually incorrect and perpetuates the myth that the #only people worthy of victim status are those who are bastions of innocence #what happened to her was wrong whether she be innocent of all or guilty of fucking up sometimes like humans do
