Day 27: Snow

A small painting tucked into a worn album of similar paintings. The cover of the album is worn leather made shiny by many hands over the years.

All of the paintings are of the convent's errant daughter through the years. The most recent a sledding scene with her karakul companion and those moths.

Tucked at the back of the book is a bundle of letters. Each from Odette, each detailing one of the painted adventures.

#is this tmi? oh well. this is the tmi website #trichotillomania #dermatillomania #onychophagia #bfrb #body focused repetitive behavior #ocd #guys guess what? my therapist all but prescribed that i get a manicure to prevent picking at my skin #apparently after a year with this therapist i never mentioned my finger picking until this week #and she was like 'ok since you find it tough to paint them yourself get a manicure. self care and preventative'#because my cuticles are horrific due to me constantly picking at them and the sides of my fingers #so i've always been too embarrassed to go to a nail salon and my therapist was like 'exposure therapy!'#currently my nails are sloppily painted because i can't hold a brush still and they're already chipping after like 5 days #actually they probably started chipping on the second day honestly.#i need to redo my twists a bit which actually satisfies the trich urges since i'll be running my fingers through my hair to do it #but i won't actually be pulling. but also. i will be getting the shed hairs out. so. kind of fulfills that.#but right now my nails are long enough for me to feel them sometimes hit my keyboard. which. isn't normal for me.#and despite the nail polish i feel the urge to bite them shorter ahhhhh #anyway if you're Black with natural hair and have trich i HIGHLY suggest mini twists since it helps deter me from pulling #sure i have to redo it every few weeks but seriously. game changer. harder to find individual hairs to pull.

ok so like a lot of the stuff i've seen about the ending of painted devils seems to say "sad that vanja can't remember the lesson she learned throughout the book" but i'd argue she does. she knows that she's worthy of love, that the people around her care about her. it's just a bit harder to accept because of her trauma but she knows it. she leaves not because she thinks she's unworthy of love, but because she knows she has it but the system doesn't make it easy for people like her to love and be loved.

the system perpetuating poverty is the reason why she became a thief and now it refuses to let her forget that this is who she is. see kirkling (literally used as an example of what im talking about when vanja runs away), always unfairly harsh to vanja but immune to the consequences of her bias because she's retired. and now she loves someone who wants to be a prefect, someone who is going into that very system to try and improve it, but it's still the same thing. the loopholes are still there and one day someone worse will exploit it to ruin emeric's life, prevent him from saving others from her fate, and she cares about him and those girls like her too much to let that happen

the book says that it's one thing to know something but another thing to believe it. in the same vein, it's one thing to know what you want, it's one thing to know you are loved, believe you are loved, but it's a completely different thing to be allowed to pursue that want or love. vanja and emeric don't have that freedom. gisele didn't have that freedom until vanja broke the leadership system in minkja, but no one's breaking the system for vanja. not yet at least.

I'm rewatching Alex Rider for like the 7th time but with my boyfriend and guys season 2 is so fucking good SEASON 2 IS SOOO GOOD

Alex being such a cheeky brat with the department and Alan Blunt losing his mind because Alex is being so clever and annoying

The slowly building mystery with all the pieces that gradually come together

Alex and Kyra being so cute with the washer and "survivors club" and "keeping score" of who has saved each other's life the most (and the end scene where he's looking up at her from the stage🥹😭)

Jack having her own storyline that actually serves the story and gives her character a purpose

Tom and Kyra both helping to progress the plot in ways that are genuinely required from them and makes sense for their characters

The subtle hints that Yassen is going to wind up helping Alex in the end, the way his character gradually becomes more complex with each episode

Alex just generally being so smart, so resourceful, so capable and just really encompassing his character, not to mention the genuine depth that comes from his trauma + him accidentally getting people killed over the course of the season (Blunt telling him he has blood on his hands)

The tension that builds within The Department as Smithers and Mrs. Jones start keeping secrets from Blunt about Alex

Damian Cray just getting absolutely dogpiled by Alex and the gang who just keep screwing over his plan again and again

Alex and Yassen FINALLY having a full conversation and it holds so much weight and hits so good

The part where Sabina cracks Anders over the head with her own laptop (honorable mention)

All the cheeky light hearted bits where the kids are just being shitheads with too much power, like cutting off the electricity to the whole postal code just to use the computer lab

And then on the flip the angst that comes from literally no one believing Alex about anything for like 60% of the season

It's just scene after scene of "oH THIS PARTS SO GOOD" and it doesn't stop until the very end

has it been long enough that I can say that season 3 just doesn't hit the same😭

#alex rider #season 3 is okay but the characters do so much shit just to serve the plot and it doesn't make any sense sometimes and idk what happened #Julia Rothman (and Nile) is like caricature evil villain and it's too obvious and Alex would NOT trust her he's way too smart #They should have made her way more charming and likeable to the point where even the audience is wondering if she's good #Alex and Kyra's relationship gets weird and forced and it makes no sense that Kyra instantly turns on him and decides he's a killer #Jack does nothing Tom's brother does nothing Tom and Kyra barely do anything #Yassen does a bunch of stuff that makes no sense to me absolutely hate that they made him lie to Alex #The Department gets painted way too much as “the good guys” by the end #Alex becomes very emotional and it clouds his judgement but we haven't seen him slowly get there over the course of the show #He sort of just sees that video then gets there all at once right off the bat and then makes dumb decisions the entire season #anyways blah blah I'll shut up now it's still my favorite show in the entire world forever and ever #season 3 was still the event of the year for me and one of the most fun weeks of my life #but season 2 u will always be famous..

ive been staring at the naqtube channel page just doing analysis thoughts in my head for like 15 minutes and ive just been hit with the realization that Damn this is not normal. normal people dont do this. either the mental illness or the mild sickness is doing something to me right now.

IM JUST BRUTEFORCING THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD.#uhmmmmmm anyways. im trying to think of potential themes naq might have #and its like wow i am not good at recognizing themes bc im dense as bricks sometimes but i swear theres a repeating pattern of .. roles?#the expectation and breaking of stereotypical roles to be more specific #like listen to me here. obviously theres the line ive pointed out b4 with the 'theyre fighting evil/theyre [..] evil' line;#the lines in the unused takes video that paint n&q as less than morally good in /some/ sort of way;#queen buzzbeamer's whole deal as ive said ad nauseam; a more recent example i feel like would be part of the binary translated from hazard:#'this is who i am and who i will ever be'. accepting your role.#but also on a more meta sort of way with the games themselves. the female mcs getting more focus than the male mcs-#-in a time period where most video game mcs were male and the female characters were one-note is something noteworthy to me.#the fact that nebula is CONSISTENTLY framed bigger/more prominently in almost every piece of official art we see.#her name is first in the title. naq was conceptualized as a concept with her only first. shes always also featured in ads alongside quasar.#the only ad that features quasar prominently is the jumparound ad which alludes to it possibly being a request from sony #-and thus would want to play it more 'mainstream'.#by itself this doesnt stand out bc it could always be just the creators wanting some hashtag women in their unfiction series #which i would be fine with if that was the case. we love women. HOWEVER #its the fact that naq2 (from what we know so far) ACTIVELY TRIES TO BACKPEDAL ON THIS. which makes me think its INTENTIONAL.#both nova and nebula have seemingly been sidelined in naq2 with their screentimes reduced. nova reduced to a 'supporting character' and -#nebula into a possibly offscreen kidnappee. #YAY #ive done a fair amount considering i started it a month ago and ive been quite busy #but what im pleased about is that aside from the red dwarf collage piece i posted there's nothing else in here that ive posted online #until now anyway lol #i enjoy posting of course but im trying to move away from Making Art With Posting In Mind #and just Make Art and Post It Some Time If I Feel Inclined #i will always crave attention and notifications eventually BUT it's good to just make stuff for the fun of it and then when i get a moment #post stuff that im happy with #im trying to do more studies right now as opposed to just fanart #and also maintain the collage/journal stuff but more in an ugly way/just plonking receipts down #also i started doing the thing of using up leftover acrylic paint from other activities by just covering a page with it #im pretty happy with how this book is going overall #ive made peace with the fact that i cannot have an ugly sketchbook i.e. a truly messy spontaneous sketchbook #if i have supremely ugly (to me) stuff in there it vexes me #BUT i am managing to keep a balance and be more spontaneous/not overthink every page #whilst still making every page something that looks okay and is sometimes complementary of another page #anyway. what's she even on about.#journal #sketchbook

#now theres a lot more nuance to this #because “bad writing” is SUPER general #so i have to add a disclaimer #i dont mean propoganda. i dont mean biased and biggoted #i mean writing decisions u dont like!#ppl are very quick to just sit there and shit on writers #its okay to not like an ending. its okay to not like how a character was treated #and its okay to be mad about it if u like them very dearly #but at the same time sometimes we're a little too mean.#and sometimes they deserve it #but sometimes it's a little mean #this is. in truth. because of the lumine ending #on webtoon #its pissing me off how ppl are getting super upset and being rude to kabu #even tho so many ppl are explaining its because she grew out of the story. she didnt have passion for it anymore #she gave us an ending! you dont have to like it but stop acting like just because she COULD write more that she HAS to write more #art is tiring. sometimes you lose passion for it. sometimes you dont do it perfectly #sometimes your idea of good isnt the same as someone else's #i dont like romance for example. several tropes will turn me off it #but some ppl do #sometimes you make a pretty shitty plot or make plot holes #and yeah those arent super great to read!!! but a story is an art. its all different #its not all good and its not all bad #its made from a persons head therefore it'll reflect a person in a way #i just think its important to remember that writers are not machines #artists and writers aren't actually as different as everyone treats them #we're all making art. we're all making mistakes. i just think we should be a little nicer about it #its okay to criticize. but can we be nice about it #also i dont like the “professional author” argument #picasso was a famous artist his paintings are in meuseums and there's still people who don't like his art. i dont think its fair to go

#strato.txt #oil painting #wip #im worried ive unbalanced the composition w the second one on the right tho... its so much closer to the edge #ugh whatever. aunt lizzie is the focus here #i wish i knew what she actually looked like this is just cobbled together from general features of my family #solid build... dark curly hair... bigass ears. she could be one of my cousins. she could be me #ok rq im gonna lay out the story in the tags for anyone who hasnt seen the previous lizzie art #my great-something aunt lizzie was disabled and couldnt walk very well and she died young #she wanted to see the second floor of the farm house real bad but no one ever carried her up there and she died before seeing it #they buried her in a long white dress somewhere down at the creek. we dont know where her graves lost unfortunately #the night she was buried something wearing a white dress walked into the house and up the stairs and disappeared #and sometimes you can hear her down around the creek screaming #somewhere along the line wolves got mixed into the imagery for me #my uncle told me a story about another 'white thing' that was wolfish and would jump on cars #so i just assumed lizzie was a werewolf my whole life #anyways. i think her staying after she died was a manifestation of her desire for autonomy. maybe #maybe if shed had modern accommodations she wouldnt have felt the need to stick around. or maybe she would have idk #either way i think death afforded her control over her own desires in a way she hadnt experienced before #and i think thats why she still hangs around the creek #i hope she would like this. maybe ill take it down there and leave it out for a night when its finished so she can see

While Michael's tragedy obviously isn't the same as Book's in that she still has a number of loved ones with her, I'm surprised there isn't more textual acknowledgement that neither of them can ever see their families again

#i mean it's still not quite the same bc michael does still have gabrielle #but her bio dad and the s'chn t'gais are lost to her forever #and while her relationship with mirror georgiou is complicated and i wouldn't exactly call her her mother #i do think michael considered her family and now she's gone too #this of course can't compare to being the last of your species #but that's an incredibly rare status that i don't think book has too many peers with #so someone with as much tragedy and isolation in her life as michael is i think the closest he has for comparison #and while i love disco very much #it's emotional beats can sometimes be a bit paint by the numbers #so I'm surprised they don't connect these numbers more #michael burnham #cleveland booker #dsc

#trying to get through the ''survive a dusk ordeal'' task in lobotomy corp #Its not working out so far!!!#like as a character i love her she's cool as fuck its just gameplay wise... she Keeps Fucking Me Over!!#also green noon fuck green noon #i have the wolf i have the shitty 40 second plant i have big bird i have yin and yang.#like im getting enough ego to finish the day before noon even #im just struggling to make it to/through the ordeal for the quest...#its not even that hard but noon/dusk keeps killing enough clerks 2 set off the trumpet which releases big bird which usually sets off red b #shes already at 1 bc that stupid plant ALWAYS melts down and my employees r too fast so its just doomed to escape #then red sometimes helps w the ordeal and bird and sometimes just spawns the wolf #either way theres too much shit to avoid so 5 people WILL die and oops! now everyone melts into ass! bc opf that dragon #like it could be worse i have an easy way to get CENSORED w/ knight+painting #but ughhhh still!!#no one give me tips btw the agony and struggle is part of the fun #apperently i have 561 hours in this fucking game btw.#some of that is definitely me leaving it open overnight while i sleep. but ALOT of that is me getting my ass kicked #help
