like. im sketching this photo i took (with the aim of then painting it) and i chose this one because i thought Well It's A Pretty Simple Picture Just Some Houses On A Beach but it's like um. even though it's literally just an average image from a beach when you Zoom in and Look at it it's like ohh ok there are one billion trillion textures and colours and lines of different types. the block colours of the house fronts and (almost) of the sky. the one million blades of grass which contain one million shades of green/brown/khaki. the indefinite swooshy shapes of the grass. but also the angular solid shadows on the buildings. the triangles and squares and rectangles of the windows. the bits of reflected houses in the water. the discolouration on the steps. the little black squiggly spots of shadows from the railings. i could go on. it's endless. just how am i supposed to ever represent this on an a4 piece of paper. etc. ......... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all the palestinians i know are celebrating but also braced for the indiscriminate bombing that will take place until the ceasefire goes into effect on sunday. i don't know if you know this but israel has always bombed the most indiscriminately right before a ceasefire up until the very last second, just to kill a few hundred more palestinians. this was once considered one of its worst war crimes because it is demonstrably utterly unjustified. now it's considered par for the course because the vast majority of the bombing of the past year has been unjustified (even militarily, israel's bank of targets ran out long ago.) but between now and sunday people who have survived 467 days of genocide are going to be desperately hoping to make it until the ceasefire. the bitterness and fear of losing friends and family right before it is a psychological torture of its own.

over the past year i think a lot of people around the world have been sickened by the awareness that a trapped people are being starved and bombed to death as they go about their day. personally i haven't been able to truly enjoy anything without the awareness that for almost every half hour of the past year a child in gaza was killed. a lot of people in gaza have said they haven't had a proper night's sleep since october 7th. this is the smallest demand of humanity and the first thing a ceasefire means, and why it has been so wretched to have to scream and beg for it for over a year. people will be eating and sleeping again. let's just get there, on sunday, and then we can talk about everything else we need to do.

please remember that a ceasefire has not been reached yet and that israel's attacks have actually recently ramped up. people are also still being starved. combat this by donating to gaza soup kitchen

this has been done before im sure but i had to do my version of everyone's favourite hologram (miku) meets everyone's least favourite hologram (rimmer). i think rimmer would be contemptuous of miku at first but warms up to her when he realises he's finally found a morris dancing partner. etc

arts and crafts sunday: bottlecap badge making ..

this cap was already plain black so it was perfect for making a red dwarf logo badge lol. thank you lidl tropical cider. (left pic is the finished one, right pic is from when i thought id finished it but then realised id smegged up and got the colour of the first R wrong . despite literally having the logo up on google to copy. OOPS.)

my lettering isn't the neatest it could be and im blaming that on my lack of good small paintbrushes but it'll do. i don't paint often these days so it's a good little project to get some practice in with acrylics. i want to do some band related designs, maybe a 'NEAT NEAT NEAT' damned one because i quite like simple text logo badges. and ill probably do some basic smiley face ones too because i think they look good on any jacket. and whilst im acquiring more bottlecaps ill think about some more detailed designs i could do ..

is it just me 🐠 or is this blog getting quite fishy. i add tiny fish doodles to arnold rimmer drawings because of his i am a fish exam failure. i also add fish doodles to ace rimmer 🐟drawings because of smoke me a kipper etc. when i get around 🐠to drawing The Cat i will naturally have to add a lot of fish in his presence as well. and 🐟 of course longtime followers may remember the revolver ocelot days of fishie spurs, fishie bullets, canned tuna, etc. not to mention john metalgear raw fish ingestion. well it happens i guess. just as picasso had his 'blue' period i am currently in 🐠 my 'fish' period. 🐟🐠

a friend just tipped me off about Fund a Kitchen in Gaza, a free tool that helps you locate and donate to community kitchens currently serving some of Gaza's most vulnerable!

this lets you choose a region (south, central, north) and see which kitchens operate in that area, then donate to as many as you can.

as a reminder, community kitchens try to buy and cook in bulk, which makes ingredients last longer & sustain more people in the conditions of extreme scarcity that Israel is imposing right now. they are also able to serve people on the ground who may not have the means to reach out online.

so, whether through this tool or not, please do support community kitchens, as well as mutual aid groups that cover additional needs, such as the Sameer Project (meals, tents, cash aid, medical aid) and Dahnoun Mutual Aid (meals, tents, baby supplies, cash aid, winter clothes).
