acting like you’re some woke person just because you advocate for middle aged women to be lifeless on the internet is not the flex you think it is 💀
Tumblr media
You seem rather passionate about this so I’m going to indulge your ask to let you know three things:
Writing is a hobby that gets better with age, life experience, and practice. The best pieces of writing objectively come from older people and I’m not talking about fanfiction. I mean books and literature. I’m serious—go look at some of the most well known pieces of literature and then search up the ages of their authors during the years they were published. You’ll find the older writers tend to bust out bangers and this principle is very much applicable to fics too by default. Also writing fanfic is not “lifeless” lol. Some of you act like writing fanfic is juvenile compared to a novel and it’s rly not that different from writing an original piece of fiction. Sure, sometimes fanfic can be a little less on the conventional side in terms of technique. But genuinely the concept of putting characters into situations to create a plot is literally the main thing on both sides here and if you think writing fanfic is silly, it makes 0 sense to hold creative writing to some pedestal. Some fanfic writers demonstrate AMAZING original world building skills especially if they write au’s that diverge from canon and I think you are out of your mind if you think this hobby is not oftentimes an impressive one rather than “lifeless”
Being 30+ doesn’t automatically mean you must/do have a family and kids but I’ll still indulge that point and say you can easily balance a work and personal life while also having a hobby. I know middle aged men who dedicate more time to hobbies like hunting and fishing than middle aged women do with writing. One actually requires you to leave your house and family behind and the other you can do from the comfort of your home and tend to your family should you need to. I think the nature of your opinion only stems from a misogynistic view on aging women but that’s another can of worms
People don’t stop consuming and enjoying things as soon as they hit their third decade of living. If that’s your viewpoint on life, you’re going to set yourself up for a very miserable time once you hit 30. If you’re already 30+ then you’re a hypocrite by default by even being here in the first place lol. Also, life is literally so fucking silly okay? You wake up, work, pay taxes, and try to get by with what is usually an underpaid paycheck. Just fucking enjoy your life and let others enjoy theirs okay? If a 30 year old likes anime, then that is literally so god damn harmless I cannot stress enough how unimportant that is. There are 30 year olds out there doing heinous things in their free time and you choose to be bothered by someone who happens to produce an assortment of words from time to time. Please reevaluate your priorities
All things aside I cannot convince you that being 30+ and enjoying fandom and fanfic is not weird unless you really just realize that it’s not weird. Idk how old you are but I assume you’re younger than 30 because no 30 year old would be on fandom tumblr and then bash others for it. But regardless, just because you think something is weird doesn’t mean it’s bad. It is literally the most harmless thing I do not understand why you would care so much, just move on???? When you think someone dresses weird in real life do you go point it out to them??? No you think it to yourself and move tf on—and if you would voice it to them then you are literally a rude individual. Plain and simple. Rude and disrespectful and I would suggest you again, reevaluate. And it’s the same principle here. You just move on. If you seriously cannot be convinced that this is normal and just absolutely are dead set on believing that 30+ year olds who enjoy fandom are weird, fine. But just keep it to yourself it is the bare minimum you can do to be a decent person I cannot stress this enough to you
And one more thing. The people who are writing the mangas and animes you enjoy so much are middle aged. Older than 30/40. Grown people who might even have families and kids. Creativity has no age limit it is just a small joy that people indulge in at any age and it’s a very nice thing when they share it for others to enjoy, as well. Please just enjoy someone’s art and live a little. I promise you will be much happier and peaceful if you just read a good fic without worrying about the age of whoever produced it. I guarantee you a lot of the BEST fics you’ll read will come from the older writers they are literally doing you a favor if you happen to enjoy reading fanfic. Why bite the hand that feeds you?

Let's spread some positivity! Tag some of your fellow content creators here and let them know why they are absolutely amazing!❤️
This is a really sweet idea. I'm going to put my list below a cut, because it will be long.
@em-writes-stuff-sometimes - honestly, Em's fan fiction is better than actual published books I've read. You should be doing this professionally, bub, not publishing it for free for us morons on Tumblr. I'm forever amazed that someone with your brain wants to pal around with an idiot like me.
@valeskafics - your tenacity and the sheer volume with which you are able to write will never cease to amaze me. You're a powerhouse, Babybel. You don't have a masterlist, you have a fucking library, it's incredible.
@barbiedragon - your modern Daemon has me in a chokehold. You're also one of the few writers flying the flag for Vizzy 3 and I gobble up everything you write for him like I'm a shark and you've put chum in the water. Can't wait for Kinktober to see what you create!
The rest of this list is just ordered by date of when I followed the person, and expresses no particular favourtism:
@flowerpotmage - not quite so active in fandom anymore, but they're one of the few writers giving gender neutral readers some much needed representation, and their Aemond and Daemon fics are amazing.
@paintb0x - an amazing artist - some of the best I have seen for Ewan and his characters.
@sapphire-writes - I love Jo's modern AUs and her ability to put my heart through the wringer!
@timetravelingpenguin1066 - Eli is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. An incredible gif maker and a great fic writer.
@aemondx - Sili's gifs are wonderful and the kindness she dedicates to this fandom by making icons and headers for people is admirable.
@alicentive - Killy's gifs are insane and I love that she writes for the characters that don't get as much attention from fandom.
@marthawrites - Midnight Passages, you will always be famous.
@exitpursuedbyavulcan - Studious, my beloved. UPDATE WHEN? (sorry)
@targaryenrealnessdarling - I would die for Liz. She's not just an insanely talented writer, but an all round amazing person too, she makes this fandom a much nicer place to be.
@st-eve-barnes - Eve is out here giving the Aegon girlies the content they desperately need. I love her Aemond fics too!
@bottlesandbarricades - one of the funniest fuckers I've ever had the pleasure of speaking too. Only has one fic, but it's a banger, and her edits are unmatched. I will never get over space buns Aemond.
@toms-cherry-trees - more content for Peaky Blinders than HotD, but the Aemond fic is gold.
@just-some-random-blogger - a Daemon girlie, we love to see it! If entertaining reblogs were an Olympic sport then Hani is taking home the gold. Her fics are bonkers, and I love them.
@humanpurposes - Gee's writing is top notch, some of the best Aemond fics I've ever read.
@assortedseaglass - Hilde is one of my favourite writers. Ever. She could write instructions on how to put together IKEA furniture and I'd eat it up, she's that good.
@oneeyedvisenya - another of my favourite Aemond writers. Education is one of my top five fics of all time. So well written.
@lya-dustin - the speed with which Juli produces chapters is mindblowing. All Is Bliss is a great series.
I can only tag 20 accounts at a time, so I shall continue this in a reblog. I wasn't lying in previous ask, when I said my appreciation post would be phonebook sized.

The 10 questions post was getting too long and I got tagged 3 times so I'm making my own RIDICULOUSLY long post here so I can answer all of the questions teehee <3
INSTRUCTIONS: Prev asks 10 questions and you answer, then ask 10 new questions and tag ppl!
From @rock-n-macabre
Do you think Severen survived the end of Near Dark and he's probably just chewing on roadkill somewhere until he gets his strength back?
100% Severen's still out there running amuck and causing chaos on the backroads of Oklahoma (Caleb and Mae DO eventually turn him back to being a human and he's rightfully bummed with his average human life so he has an existential crisis, dyes his hair, and drives around drunk in a shitty green valiant he stole until he decides to get naked and tries to fight a tornado and ends up getting his ass saved by a beautiful angry woman and her team of adrenaline junkies and obviously that isn't canon but COULD YOU IMAGINE 💀)
Weirdest song you get stuck in your head?
It widely varies depending on the type of music I'm listening to at the time. Recently however it's been Psycho Killer by The Talking Heads and I mean what an absolute banger of a song but one I cannot sing out loud for fear that people around me would become concerned.
What is an item you wish would become a fad?
I feel like I'm going to sound like SUCH a crotchedy old woman saying this but the rise of "TRINKETS" in mainstream culture, aesthetics, and trends. Don't get me wrong I LOVE bag decorations, I have an ita bag I've been lovingly decorating for like 7 years now and I display all my fun pins and keychains that I've acquired mostly at cons over the years, I love it when people are unafraid to display themselves and their interests/hobbies to the world. However my biggest issue with it is that it has become such an 'in' thing to do right now that MASSIVE amounts of junk are being produced by big name trendy stores and it's frustrating because I know that in several months all of that is going to end up in dumps and landfills and thrift stores. Many of these 'trinkets' and charms are in demand because they are what's most popular and people want to show off having the 'in' thing and I get that...but pls I wish more people would be genuine and true to themselves 😭 okay omg rant about that over
If you had to live in an era, what would you choose?
Even since I was little I have a very cultivated obsession with Ancient Egypt, SPECIFICALLY the late Ptolemaic period and EVEN MORE SPECIFICALLY the era from the beginning of the reign of Cleopatra VII to around 30 AD so I think if I could choose to live in ANY time period it'd probably be that one lol. As for other eras I think it would be interesting to be able to visit I'd say...Tudor England, Qing Dynasty China, and probably like the 70s-80s era just from a fashion standpoint.
Fav genre of music?
I think for the most part my favorite music to listen to falls under the category of dream pop, but I'm also very big into alt and rock because for the most part that is what I grew up listening to.
Fav past time?
I have SO MANY. Basically if it's a creative pursuit I'm interested in it. Film, acting, photography, lighting, but the main one I'd say is probably sewing.
Gators or Crocs?
Crocs!!! Both are fascinating but crocs just look like such funny little guys sometimes hehehe
Possums or Armadillos?
POSSUMS. THEY ARE JUST SO CUTE AND I LOVE THEM SO MUCH???? What majestic babies and they get such a bad rap but they're just trying to vibe!!!!
Tacos or Burritos?
Tacos. There is so much versatility in a taco. Soft shell, hard shell, BOTH??? Sometimes with burritos the filling to shell ratio is off and there's too much filling and not enough lovely tortilla for me to enjoy??? With tacos I can fill it as I please and I can see all of my amazing goodness layers and just UGH, tacos are perfection.
Best Bill Paxton movie?
This answer is going to be SO TYPICAL for me but it has to be Twister. Twister was the first film I ever saw him in and growing up that was one of my favorite films and to this day if it's on TV I will sit and watch it. To me, the movie is masterclass in what a good disaster film can and should be with a super compelling, talented cast.
Next is @we-keep-odd-hours
Thoughts on Eric Red's idea for a Near Dark sequel? (Mae and Caleb's adult, human, daughter has a run in with "kin" of the Hookers.)
I'm not mad at it! I feel like conceivably the concept is interesting and it could be marketable, but for me you'd have to really develop characters to fill the shoes of Jesse, Diamondback, Homer, and especially Severen. I wouldn't want to see outright clones, or 'imitations', but making sure to give their "kin" their own traits, quirks, and personality whilst still feeling like they fit together with the Hookers.
Top five movies with vampires?
Near Dark (1987)
The Lost Boys (1987)
Dracula (1958)
Nosferatu (2024)
Valerie and Her Week Of Wonders (1970)
Oddly enough that was super hard to do because I'm not actually really a vampire girl, like the vampire has to be COMPELLING for me to be interested. Within the horror genre as a whole I'm actually more of thriller/slasher horror girl than I am a paranormal girl.
If YOU were going to pitch a sequel (time machine back to 1987, or else a book/comic/etc) what would you say?
Oh. gosh. HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU HAVE BECAUSE I HAVE FUNNILY ENOUGH THOUGHT SO DEEPLY ABOUT THIS. Actually somewhat similar to Eric Red's idea I wouldn't mind a sequel following the daughter of Caleb and Mae HOWEVER, in my version of events Caleb is actually a single father to their teenage daughter. Mae, realizing how unhappy she is with life decides to leave when their daughter is still really young. The thing about Mae is that she doesn't seem too choked up about the whole murderous vampire thing, I don't think she actually had much of a problem with what she and the other Hookers were doing. I could see Mae becoming a serial killer as a human, in an effort to feel more...her version of normal. I think she'd stick to small towns and backroads, just like the ones she called home with the clan. She doesn't disappear entirely from her daughter's life, but their relationship is super strained even tho Mae does genuinely care about her daughter. Meanwhile I see their daughter growing up as the kind of kid who gets into trouble like...a lot. I'd set this roughly around 2007-2009 ish, let's say their daughter is 15 or 16, and she's in this ANGSTY TEEN PHASE and this girl...dresses like she's straight out of an old Hot Topic ad, I'm talking baby mall goth here and there's probably nothing worse than living in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma as a baby goth...but Caleb is at the very least a supportive dad!! Even if he doesn't quite get it, he's supportive! Their daughter is someone with a fascination for witchy things, and dark things, and the girl might be a little obsessed with the concept of vampires. Anyway YADA, YADA SOME MAGICAL SHIT OR SOMETHING....BUT Jesse, Diamondback, Severen, and Homer are back...and they are out for revenge. Only they are surprised to find that Mae is nowhere to be found and Caleb's weird teenage daughter looks an awful lot like Mae! Hm...So I think they'd go the route of using the kid to get to Caleb. Admittedly I haven't hashed out the other details but I think Mae would somehow find out about their return and she ends up seeking them out, not realizing that they are going after her daughter and idk about an ending for this one but maybe one day it'll come to me lol
Favorite scene that isn't the bar scene?
The scene where they're playing poker in the hotel room and Severen and Jesse draw guns on one another because Jesse caught him cheating, just the whole chaotic vibe of them and Homer smoking and the way Diamond kicks Severen's chair...I love it. I love their fucked up little family and their fucked up closeness.
We know (canon) that Mae was turned around 1982, Jesse around the Civil War, and (kiiiiiinda canon?) Severen in Tombstone in the late 19th century. When/where do you think Diamondback and Homer were from?
I cannot lie I am so deeply in love with the way you write Di and her backstory I genuinely cannot see her as being from any other time than the 20s or 30s, like you just write her so well and so naturally that in my mind that's the exact era she fits with. AS FOR HOMER...I think he's old, like if Jesse's old I think Homer is REALLY old. I have this image in my head of Homer and my brain keeps screaming Salem Witch Trials-era, so like late 1600s roughly. He's OLD and he's tired of being young. As for what exactly he was doing the whole time BEFORE Jesse found him? I'm not sure, but what I am sure of is that I do believe in my heart that he's older than Jesse.
Do you think if Caleb got over his selectively applied human moral code that he would have made an okay vampire, eventually?
Yes. Do I think he'd make a fun vampire??? No, not really, I think it'd take a very VERY long time for him to find joy in it the way Severen does, but yeah I think eventually he would...I CAN say that in my Near Dark/Twister AU, by the time 1995 rolls around he's mostly gotten over it.
Severen: ace/aro spec, or no?
I see it. Love isn't his main objective, sex isn't his main objective. Having fun is his objective and I could honestly see him going either way. The way I've written him thus far is that the sex is more about fulfilling the need to fully possess something, to hold power over something and that's what he gets off on more than the actual physical act itself(he does get off on that too tho just to a lesser extent in what I've wrote). To me he also gives off strong bi energy.
Any scenes that were changed from script to film, or otherwise cut that you wish made it into the movie/were done differently?
If I am remembering correctly following a chase with cops I think in the script Severen jumped out the van to lay down business I JUST WISH WE'D GOTTEN A LITTLE MORE CARNAGE A LITTLE MORE FERAL. Over all tho I'm happy that Di is more of her own woman in the film as opposed to the script where she follows what Jesse says without question.
What would have happened if Loy and Sarah were at literally any other motel that night?
I think eventually Caleb would have accepted his place and his new life. He wasn't exactly happy but he also wasn't like...actively lamenting the entire film and stuff. Maybe down the road as she got older Sarah would have started to look harder into her brother's disappearance maybe and that'd make for a good little story too.
Aside from her god-awful taste in boys, what's your opinion on Mae?
I love her. I think she's under-utilized and people don't appreciate her strange and off-putting nature!!! To me she gives off the vibe that vampirism wasn't necessarily a hard adjustment for her which makes me wonder what she was like as a human. Maybe she had homicidal tendencies beforehand, maybe she was always interested in death and other macabre things that girls aren't "supposed" to like or think about. Her speech about the stars is deep and impactful, she thinks and she feels very deeply. But she's also very much a teenage girl who's gonna make mistakes and I like that because it makes her feel that much more realistic.
AAAAND FINALLY @hex6rcist
How are you!? I hope your day is going well.
My day is going well!!! It was actually my first day back at my full-time job since taking ill 2 weeks ago so just getting back into the swing of things lol
What are you currently working on? Any little projects of any kind you’re excited to share?
SEVERAL WIPS, which is usual for me 🙃 I tend to jump from one to another depending on my mood of the day, it unfortunately means it takes me FOREVER to finish anything lol. Working on my MAIN Severen/Jo AU as well as a side AU for them which is actually based around reincarnation ideas and coming up with a backstory for Severen which basically answers the question of what he was doing before being turned. On a side project I'm trying to improve my manip skills in photoshop so I might end up sharing some of those as well.
What have you been watching lately? I just finished Righteous Gemstones and I need a new show lol.
Yellowstone actually! I enjoy the vibes of the show even though in my head all I can think of is a tweet someone made about the show being Game of Thrones with cowboys which like...damn they aren't wrong but still!!!
(A Near Dark one because how can I not) what’s your favorite small detail in the movie that other people might overlook?
This is such a small detail but the LIGHTING, the way the night time outdoor scenes are lit. I really like that the lighting is very cool in most scenes which is something I notice I don't see a ton of especially in older movies, I feel like I tend to see a lot of scenes more warmly lit. Also the detail in the patches and pins that are apart of Severen's whole look I LOVE the way it characterizes him as someone who likes taking trophies!!
What blog should I follow right now?
@hauntanelle I LOVE LOVE LOVE the whole vibe of their blog and the photos they post are incredible
Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Fake it til you make it. Imposter syndrome is a bitch and I struggle with it every single day and faking that air of confidence instills a sense of confidence in others too strangely enough. I know that I, like many people, am my worst critique and enemy when it comes to my own abilities.
If you could add one fantastical element to the real world and have it be a commonly accepted and known about thing what would it be? (Ie make Santa real)
Aliens. I KNOW THEY'RE REAL I KNOW THEY ARE OUT THERE BUT I WANT EVERYONE ELSE TO BELIEVE TOO.
What’s the last book you didn’t just read, you DEVOURED?
It pains me to admit this but it has been a LONG TIME since I've actually had a chance, much less the patience to sit down and read a book. I used to religiously devour books as a youth, reading was one of my favorite activities and I will thank my mom for fostering that and buying me all of the Warrior Cats books my little heart could ever desire, ALAS...I was diagnosed with tinnitus in 2020 and my reading comprehension has not been the same since. The last book that I completed in a short span of time relative to the number of pages within it was probably Phasma by Delilah S Dawson which is a Star Wars book that featured one of my niche that-is-no-one's-favorite characters hehehe
What are you most passionate about?
Creativity. Pursuing and expressing that creativity. In the age of AI creativity is so important, the human touch that makes things different, personal, meaningful. My dream job(aside from acting which is out of left field for me) is to be a costume designer and with the way AI is being touted I might one day be out of a job. Stay creative and stay flawed, add that thing that only a human can add.
What do you think is your best quality?
I'm gonna creep(haha creep) it real with you, in my head because I am my biggest opp I believe have no good qualities and I am wicked HOWEVER I have been told I'm a good friend. I try to be! I try to be a good listener and even though the answer I have is rarely a constructive or good one I try to offer support where I can lol.
ALRIGHT NOW THAT THIS WAS LONG AS FUCK BECAUSE I RAMBLE AND I ENJOY YAMMERING ON AND ON AND ON MY QUESTIONS ARE GONNA BE BELOW THE CUT <3
So for MY 10 questions and the ppl I tag: YALL DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO I PROMISE BECAUSE I'M BASICALLY RE-TAGGING SOME OF YALL <3
Which supernatural power do you think you'd benefit from the most?
Favorite film from any era that you wish more people have seen?
If you could pick one place in the ENTIRE WORLD to vacation in for two weeks where are you picking?
Favorite song/artist at the moment?
What is your dream 'job'?(aka what would you feel most passionate and happy doing in life)
Which season is your favorite?
Do you have a favorite comfort film/tv show?
What is your favorite era of fashion?
(How can I not ask some Near Dark ones cmon IM ME) If you could crossover ANY other film with Near Dark, what would it be and why?
You can only pick ONE of the Hooker clan to defend you and the rest are hunting you down. Who do you pick, and do you survive the night?

when u get this, list 5 songs u like to listen to, publish. then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers or moots (positivity is cool) 💖
oOoOO this a good question I'll answer with songs that are perpetually stuck in my head ones that I could back to because their just that good to me
First up I got is
This song is so catchy for some reason I always find myself going back to it also helps me realize I'm not the only one sometimes with unrealistic expectations in men 😭
Second one I got is
This song is so good honestly like the vocals and lyrics just hit manage to scratch a part of my brain I didn't know I had I also love the alternate version they posted for the anniversary
I put these two in the same category cause their technically the same song just sung by different people/characters but both versions are absolute fire 🔥
The Third one I got is
I just recently found this one but ever since I did I've been having it on loop for who knows how long I'm just a sucker honestly for songs with symbolism and themes in them especially if they talk about more dark and taboo topics like this one
The Fourth One I got is
When I said I was a sucker for songs with stories and symbolism and themes behind them I wasn't kidding especially when they discuss more morbid and unnerving topics to be honest anything produced by biz is bound to be something I enjoy their whole "love it" track has been my absolute favorite of all time I love the way their are actual stories behind their songs like a whole narrative and characters you can dissect especially with the songs their releasing the lyrics exploring more dark and twisted relationships unhealthy on both sides (so far we have yet to see what they publish next and it may be something different that sticks out from the theme cause so far all the songs released in the "love it" track talk about a relationship where both parties involved are unhealthy and toxic and unhinged in some way shape or form) exploring a completely complicated web of love and toxicity all while being absolute bangers back to back overall I absolutely suggest biz as an artist if you enjoy songs talking about fucked up relationships and dynamics like their is so much nuance and analysis you can do on each song and the characters presented in each song that it keeps me coming back to them (this has honestly just divulged into me shamelessly trying to get other people to listen to this artist but let me tell you something they are super underrated in my opinion and more people need to talk about them)
And for the Fifth and Last One I got is
I love this song so much I was introduced to Frank Sinatra by my Father and have ever since become a huge fan of him it just gives such wonderful vibes Frank Sinatra is in my all time favorite artists
So that is all the songs I have listed I hope my ramblings will have convinced to check them out and their respective artists if you haven't already I left out a lot of other artists and songs I love mostly because these are the ones I am most obsessed with as of the moment but if you want you can always ask me more questions about any other songs or artists I might like I don't really have a set or specific music taste honestly I just listen to anything I like

Michael After Midnight: "Sir Psycho Sexy" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
youtube
For April Fool’s 2024, I decided to do a bit inspired by Todd in the Shadows called Ford Analyzes Tunes And Song Stuff, or FATASS for short (a little nod to how Todd’s moniker can be shortened to TITS). Basically people would send me a song, and I would give some wacky analysis or review of the song that was probably the opposite of my actual, genuine opinion. For example, for Nickleback’s “Photoraph,” I claimed the entire song was actually a bittersweet gay romance. It was a fun exercise in crafting absurdity from even the most mundane or stupid lyrics. But it did leave me wanting to review a song for real… and what better than one of my favorite songs of all time?
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a band that need no introduction, but I’ll do it in case some of you out there don’t listen to good music and/or hate California: RHCP is a funk/alternative rock band formed in 1982, though they didn’t really cement their status as one of the best bands around until their release of the alt rock classic Blood Sugar Sex Magik in 1991, an album that produced the personal and powerful “Under the Bridge,” the hard rocking “Suck My Kiss,” and the all-time banger “Give It Away.” It’s a fantastic album, one of the most influential of its time, and many regard it as RHCP’s best work—including the band’s bassist, Flea. I’m certainly inclined to agree; it’s a nice middle ground between their heavily funk-influenced early work and their later more radio-friendly rock tunes. Don’t get the wrong idea here—they were, and still are, a very good band—but I think in my opinion the 90s were the decade where they really stood out from the crowd as trailblazers in the rock scene.
With that out of the way, it’s time to single out my absolute favorite song on the album to talk about: An eight minute long track titled “Sir Psycho Sexy.” With a title like that and an impressive length to match, you know you’re in for something bonkers, and I’d say the song delivers in spades; it’s a funky rap rock epic that is hornier than almost any song before or since. The rizz the titular Sir Psycho Sexy of the song displays is beyond that of any mortal man, and it is simply glorious. This song is also a song that inspired one of my Ocs—Flynn Dangerfield from the Rhine City series my wife and I are working on. If you’re unfamiliar with the character (and you shouldn’t be, the rough drafts for the story are pinned at the top of my blog), this is like if Alex Hirsch said Dipper and Mable were actually inspired by Flowers in the Attic.
If you don’t believe me, then read on as I riff on one of my favorite songs and showcase the brilliant lyrical insanity of a 90s rock band that was likely high as a kite while writing this. Also, this is your warning: These lyrics are insanely NSFW. This isn’t nearly as bad as the last song I riffed on, “Pregnant Pussy,” but it’s up there. You’ve been warned.
So this song is sort of a story, and every story has a main character. And what a character we have here; Sir Psycho Sexy is his name, and getting pussy is his game. How does one introduce such a man?
A long, long, long, long time ago Before the wind, before the snow Lived a man, lived a man I know Lived a freak of nature named Sir Psycho
Not a bad way to start things. Lead singer Anthony Kiedis really sets up Sir Psycho as some ancient, powerful force of nature, a being who has existed as long as there were babes to fuck and who is so eternal he was there before wind or snow. Mind you, this is before we get into all of his insane sexual feats and astounding prowess with the ladies, so we have the coolest guy in the universe right here. Let’s see what else there is to say about him:
Sir Psycho Sexy that is me Sometimes I find I need to scream
Oh. Ok then. So Anthony Kiedis is Sir Psycho Sexy. This is either self-insert Mary Sue fanfiction, or it’s an autobiographical tale describing things that actually happened. Let’s be super duper charitable and call it the latter. At any rate, the fact he just likes to scream sometimes is universally relatable.
Still, you may not be convinced how good the song is from this opener, as it can come off as blatant wish fulfillment fantasy. Thankfully, the second verse opens with the greatest lyrics ever written by a human hand:
Deep inside the garden of Eden Standing there with my hard on bleedin' There's a devil in my dick and some demons in my semen Good God no that would be treason
This is absolutely blasphemous, disgusting, degenerate, explicit, and one of the funniest fucking set of lyrics to ever be in a song. “There’s a devil in my dick and some demons in my semen” is not a phrase you hear every day, and it certainly won’t leave your head after you hear it. And don’t worry; things only get better from here!
Believe me Eve she gave good reason Booty looking too good not to be squeezin' Creamy beaver hotter than a fever I'm a givin' 'cause she's the receiver I won't and I don't hang up until I please her Makin' her feel like an over achiever I take it away for a minute just to tease her Then I give it back a little bit deeper
So I don’t know what could be expected, but Sir Psycho plowing the Biblical Eve is probably not the sort of thing you could imagine when first popping in to listen to this song. When you take into account his ancient nature from the first verse and the fact he’s got his boner dripping blood in Eden in the first few lines of verse two, this is really the only logical next step though. The real question here is, is Sir Psycho supposed to be Adam, or has Sir Psycho tied up Adam to watch as he busts in Eve more times than should be humanly possible? If he’s “Makin’ her feel like an over achiever,” I’ve gotta imagine he’s not stopping after round one, two, or even three. I do like the detail that Sir Psycho won’t give up until he pleases her; it’s very cool and considerate that he cares enough about his lover to ensure her satisfaction too.
I got stopped by a lady cop In my automobile She said get out and spead your legs And then she tried to cop a feel
Verse three begins with an extremely sad case of police brutality and sexual assault. Poor Sir Psycho was just driving along, minding his own business, when he’s pulled over for no crime whatsoever; the cop just wanted to fondle him. These lyrics really say a lot about our society, and the state of the police force in America when even gorgeous immortal studs aren’t safe from the pigs.
That cop she was all dressed in blue Was she pretty? Boy I'm tellin' you She stuck my butt with her big black stick I said, "What's up?" now suck my dick
Some interesting tidbits of information here: Sir Psycho enjoys being pegged, and he has a death wish. What kind of absolute madman says that to a cop that has them at his mercy? Does he really think he can turn the tab--
Like a ram getting ready to jam the lamb She whimpered just a little when she felt my hand On her crotch so very warm I could feel her getting wet through her uniform Proppin' her up on the black and white Unzipped and slipped, "Ooh, that's tight" I swatted her like no swat team can Turned a cherry pie right into jam
Are we sure this man is Anthony Kiedis and not British Prime Minister David Cameron? Cuz he sure does like fucking pigs! Sir Psycho, with his ancient pornomancy powers, takes “fuck the police” to a whole new level, completely turning around whatever situation he’d gotten himself into.
And now we get a shift in the instrumentation, and the lyrics kind of mellow out and almost feel a little romantic(at least in a 90s funk rock way):
Hello young woman that I love Pretty punk rock mama that I'm thinking of Hold me naked if you will In your arms in your legs in your pussy I'd kill To be with you, to kiss with you, I do miss you I love you Lay me down, lay me down, lay me down, lay me down Lay me down, lay me down, lay me down, lay me down Descending waves of graceful pleasure For your love there is no measure Her curves they bend with subtle splendor
This part genuinely feels so tender and, while it is extremely horny, Sir Psycho seems especially reverent of this woman, this amazing “punk rock mama.” I kind of think this segment pulls the entire song together, giving us a brief respite from the more overt sexuality and into something that genuinely sounds sweet, albeit in a decidedly horny sort of way.
Of course, we soon get back to Sir Psycho’s usual escapades in the final verse:
Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the funk will make me freak If I should die before I waked Allow me Lord to rock out naked
And after this, we get kinky before wrapping up this song and heading to an extended instrumental outro:
Bored by the ordinary time to take a trip Calling up a little girl with a bull whip Lickety split go snap, snap Girl gettin' off all in my lap The tallest tree the sweetest sap Blowin' my ass right off the map Ooh and it's nice out here I think I'll stay for a while
So full disclosure, this really, genuinely is one of my favorite songs of all time, and perhaps my favorite RHCP song. It’s so audacious, in-your-face, and unabashedly horny, and in a day and age when people seem hellbent on removing sex from art, it’s nice to go back to a simpler, sluttier time and jam out. Is the length a bit excessive? Sure, probably, but length like this is all Sir Psycho is capable of.
The song is honestly not too dissimilar from the last song I reviewed, “Pregnant Pussy” by UGK… at least in terms of audacity. Where that song was trying to be as disgusting and depraved as possible to get a reaction from the listener, essentially being the nastiest troll song you’ll ever here, this song is just very upfront with its sheer horniness. It only barely eases you in, with the opening leading right into blasphemous boasting and dick blood, and it just never stops. It slows down a bit in a couple parts, but overall it really is just an unrelenting force. The song’s length isn’t something you ever really feel, because it just goes from one dirty lyric to the next.
But I think the most important thing the song does is remind us we all have a little Sir Psycho Sexy inside us, and we all have been standing the garden of Eden with our hard on’s bleeding while there were devils in our dick and demons in our semen. Maybe the real dick devils were the friends we made along the way.

Me: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has had some absolutely phenomenal episodes which is why I find it so frustrating that the show sometimes doesn't hold itself to the high standards its best episodes have shown it can reach. In a age when high production values and fiercely passionate writing are producing slicker, stronger, better television than we've ever seen, with amazing casts full of great actors and stunning effects work, SNW should be putting-out absolute bangers every week and it is disappointing that it's not giving its scripts the same level of attention and care it gives everything else. Unhinged Illiterate Internet Loons: People like you just hate NuTrek because it's not like the old stuff. (I don't mind people disagreeing with me. What drives me nuts is people disagreeing with me by citing arguments I did not make, from positions I do not hold, claiming opinions I do not have. Or, worse, you just get personally attacked. Few things sting more than writing a thousand word argument—well-reasoned or not—and getting called a 'dumb cunt' as the be-all and end-all of the rebuttal.)

my favorite underrated vocaloid songs once again with commentary. i dont know how underrated things actually are bc i dont interact with the vocaloid community but yknow how it is
the goat. i have never seen anybody talk about this song ever. the mv has so little views and half the streams on spotify are probably me. the songs about an abused child begging to be loved so beware if you search the mv or lyrics up.
i just realized both these songs were by tohru-ch. they make good songs! another underrated classic. the mv is sick if you manage to find it. this producer is a rin master in my opinion. this song is about how bad capitalism is and the vocals are amazing. nandemo nandemo nandemo. the desperation they managed to infuse into rins voice is so impressive and the guitar is impressive. ive been listening to this song since a very young age like ten. why was i listening to this at ten. piano goes crazy as well
i owe this one to the ex mutual who made a playlist for my fanfic and eventually blocked me. thank you for this absolute banger. i forget what the lyrics to this one mean and the mv isnt much its just kinda green stuff. goes exceptionally hard i cant tell whos singing but its still fantastic. i love the guitar that kinda sounds like rubber bands strapped to cardboard. that sounds weird but listen youll see.
i dont think this ones actually underrated since pinas pretty popular (rats died is too famous for me to put on here even though its a masterpiece). when i saw melissa covered it i died and ascended to heaven. the mv is fantastical and dizzying, and the song is perfectly melancholic. i really like the ooo singing in the background. i have had this song on repeat for an excessively long period. im very surprised it wasnt in my wrapped top five. saa saa saa saa saa saa
yummy music. it makes me do the dance of the sidestep in that one gif with ariel and other things. the wind instrument in it is really nice an the guitar is kicking. i just love rin and len i think. why are these all rin. except weeny idk who sings weeny. woukdnt be surprised if it was rin
i wouldnt call powapowas music underrated but this song has made me cry many a time. i prefer the version i found on soundcloud it has more of a miku sound but this song makes me want to get a lobotomy. young girl a is also a good one but no way is that underrated
HOLY SHIT its on spotify. god i need a dance break but i cant. ow i bobbed my head so hard it hurt. one of my faves of all time god its so good. i love you gumi. YOU NO SAY I LOVE!!!!!!!! i dont know how to express my thoughts further it just bangs so fucking hard. just as a btw it speeds up at the end which can be scary so heads up
i dont think this one is actually underrated im going by no metrics this list is just my opinion. it may not be underrated but it slaps and i played it on loop when i was in seventh grade and playing overwatch. not the best gaming music it just makes you really sad
banger. i love teto soooo much. somewhat peppy until you read the lyrics but even still its a tad melancholic. be warned the bleeps in the song are rlly loud lol. get this in project sekai so ome of those trainwrecks can sing it
probably not underrated it seems too well produced for that. i like the laughs at the beginning. i cant remember where but i laid on the floor for a long time listening to this song
ok thats all the bangers on my playlists ive never heard talked about often. i have others but sometimes i can genuinely not tell if its a vocaloid or a human. its an issue

Well I'd best explain myself.
Hey. It's milk ✌️
If you know me from being moots elsewhere.. Hi! This is my special interest blog. A real rebloggy blog. For reblogging. And talking about my interests if I feel like it!
Current interests:
In no particular order
- Figures ✨
I collect figures. I have like well over 300 at this point. I don't keep track anymore and this one is slowly but surely subsiding. I will always adore figures and collecting them though. My figures make my room a safe place for my senses. They're all so pretty 💖
- Pokémon 🌈
Oh my god an autistic person who likes Pokémon it's a miracle. Yeah. I started playing Pokémon when I was 3, so 18 years going strong. I originally preferred the toys and cards, but heart gold and soul silver converted me and then I became a mega fan. Tracking releases, learning lore, creating fanart. Mind you I was like 7. There's a deviantart account out there from when I was 6? and yeah that shit Sure Is (you can try and find it I don't really care anymore jfjsjfjg). Anyway!!! Faves are cleffa, whimsicott, blaziken, galvantula, giratina, mimikyu and Registeel. Faves by proxy include lapras, torkoal, lilligant, gengar, rayquaza, mudkip and ledyba. Fave humans are Iono, Caitlyn, Lillie (LillieMoon 💖💖💖), Ingo and Emmet, Allister, N, Erika and Elesa. Gen 5 is currently my favourite but I have played gen 5 a LOT the past few years and a lot of my faves are gen 5. I attended both the Pokémon center pop up in London in 2018, and EUIC 2024 in London, also for the Pokémon center lmao. I have a cleffa tattoo also!!! Planning on getting a large majority of my faves tattooed at some point.
- Bugs 🐛
Woo big surprise it/they user enjoys bugs. My favourites are moths, exact favourites being hummingbird hawk moths and Madagascan sunset moths. Also a huge fan of weevils, worms, snails, beetles, bees and butterflies! I hope to have a butterfly collection one day in frames :3
Hatsune Miku.
- One piece ☠️
Pretty new one but yeah, I'm caught up so I spend a LOT of time thinking about them damn pirates. Faves in no order are Zoro, Luffy, Usopp, Sanji, Robin, Perona, Mihawk, Law, Corazon, Ace, Yamato, Katakuri, Crocodile, Buggy, Doflamingo, Lucci, Okiku, and Big Mom.
- No but for reals Miku 🎧
Fun fact! I've been a Miku fan since 2010. That's 14 years baby!! My first vocaloid songs that I remember hearing are nyan cat (duh), world is mine, Romeo and Cinderella, butterfly on your right shoulder, gugurekasu, and my all time fave, corruption garden. Absolutely underrated banger. This should be a general vocaloid section really because my favourite cryptonloids are Kaito, Luka and Miku and then my favourite non cryptonloids are Meika Mikoto, Lily, Nekomura Iroha, PoUta, Teto and Luo Tianyi! My favourite producers are PinocchioP, Neru, Giga, Kira, Iroha(sasuki) and OwataP!
I went to Miku expo in London 2018, 2020 and I am going in 2024!!! A selection from my personal wishlist for London 2024 setlist :

-Sanrio (as long as I can remember)
-Animals
-Anime in general

-Sitcoms (Actually enjoy: Two and a half men, modern family, young Sheldon kinda, does house count? It should. Encyclopedic knowledge: Big Bang Theory, Two and a half men, Frasier, Friends)
THE "SOMETIMES" SPECIAL INTEREST
- Five Nights at Freddys 🐻
I know, I'm so cool. This game has had its dirty grip on me since it came out. Basically I hate it but every time a new game comes out I can't help but go on a self destructive info absorb and I watch like 6 hour video essays on the new lore and implications. It's fun I like fnaf silly Creachure. My fave is the puppet because I'm non binary haha.
-UNDERTALE ❤️
I pretty much tick all the boxes for middle school anxiety huh. Yeah undertale is a beautiful masterpiece and every few years I'll have a mega "aaaaa undertale" phase where I'll just do nothing but play and consume undertale content. I've played the game through at least like 10 times? A few of each ending. I'm still really bad at sans fight.
-Animal Crossing 🐾
I think everyone should have this one. Occasionally I'll just be like "hm being an adult in the real world isn't really what I wanted right now" so I play animal crossing until oops 6 hours passed. I'll then play for about a week before putting it down again. I tend to stick with new horizons, just because it has the best gameplay. Also BUGS heheshhfksjgh. Fave villagers are Lily, Eugene, Beardo, Judy, Merengue, Lolly, Merry and Marina. I also love Flick and Celeste.
Kinning!!
Yeahhh I kin some bitches. Big deal.
- Yamada Ryo
The big one. She's just me for real for real. I love her for realsies. Also um hi bocchi kinnies.
- Rina Tennoji
She's so fucking autistic. I also struggle with expression (fluctuates between under and over!).
- Kokoro Tsurumaki
Genki. I have made it my personal goal to make people happy in recent years and it's really helped my own mental health
- Madoka Kaname
😳🩷🖤
- Kirby
Small, Round, Pink, Poyo
- Flandre Scarlet
Tiny Creachure clinging to childhood (with a dash of trauma).
- Kanna Kamui
I just, deep down. I experience friendship the exact way Kanna does. I have no concept of boundaries. I will crawl into your bed at night.
- Stocking
Sweets, hypersexual, kinky, goth, chubby. Me.
- Yamato
Oblivious, love friend so much, bad family relationships.
- Kuromi
*cough cough* *straightens paper* Although Kuromi may look and act tough and punk, she is actually very girly and is attracted to good-looking guys. That is all.
And yeah I think that's pretty much it. Obviously this post will get updated as regularly as it needs it. Hope u enjoy my silly content!!!

CW: mentions of transphobia, terfs, and the United Kingdom
Does Aphex Twin say "trans rights"?
Aphex Twin, AKA Richard David James', the enigmatic dance music producer / DJ, who famously called Radiohead "boring" in one of his rare moments of voicing an opinion, performed at a festival I went to recently. Now if you know Aphex Twin or have been on the internet too long, you will likely recall this image, the art to one of his most popular singles, "Windowlicker".
Tumblr media
This was sometimes called the first "faceswap" before it became an early meme and well before it became a filter on most phones. Now this performance, which was incredible by the way and not just because I'd taken an edible beforehand, had an awesome light show and visuals designed by the artist Weirdcore that matched perfectly with the glitchy hardcore onslaught that was overwhelming our senses.
During part of the light show the screens also flashed up various other faceswaps of James' face with other celebrities and public figures. When people recognised faces they either got a cheer or a boo. Stephen Merchant: Cheer, Boris Johnson: Boo.
This was really nice because you could tell that a lot of thought had gone into selecting the faces and making it special and specific for the city the festival was held in; Bristol. Stephen Merchant is from Bristol himself, so him and other local heroes, some dearly and sadly departed, got big cheers from the crowd. The King of England? Big resounding boo. It's Bristol, where they threw that slaver's statue in the river, they're pretty cool.
One face that appeared a bit, quite a fair bit actually, was arch-transphobe JK Rowling. As said earlier, Bristol is cool and Bristolians are pretty cool, so seeing her got a loud and resounding "boo!" from the audience every time her face mixed with James' appeared on the screens.
There were countless faces that I either didn't recognise or that could have just been random people and not celebrities, but one swap I did notice in the mix was that of the sorely missed producer SOPHIE, who sadly passed away in 2021. SOPHIE, if you don't know, was a transwoman famous for a string of absolute bangers from 2015 onwards and being one of the early influential forces on hyperpop.
Tumblr media
So her face was put up in there, giving her a shout out, which is about the most emphatic voice of support James' will give. He mostly uses interviews to talk about whatever bit of kit he has turned into a Frankenstein's Monster to make the desired noises for a new track, and when he's not doing that he can be exceptionally curt, responding to questions from Spain's largest newspaper with gems such as What does he look for when he composes? "Nothing" How does he know when a song is finished? "When I'm sick of making it".
So TL:DR / recap: Aphex Twin/ Richard James, who not much is known about was happy to both put up a prominent transphobe's face to be jeered at and gave his support to a trans artist, indicating he respects them. Does this means Aphex Twin says "trans rights"?

Episode 186 : Recovery
"The sonic still iconic..."
- Dr. Dre
I was all ready to go with a plan for this episode, and was just waiting to have a guest into the studio for interview and to talk about the tracks of his that I'd included in the selection...and then I got COVID. As such, having anyone visit the house was out of the window, and I had to shelve the original plans and cook up an alternative episode in about a week! All things considered though, I think it's a strong selection and one with an assortment of flavours. Hope you enjoy it, as I wait to test negative and fight off the lingering fatigue so that I can rejoin the world...

Playlist/Notes
Saafir ft. Jayo Felony : Mask-A-Raid
RIP Saafir. This is probably the song of his I've heard more than any other, having first found it in those early days of questionable MP3 acquisition ;) Have bought it since, and you can find it on the 1999 "The Hit List" LP. He brings in San Diego street rhyme veteran Jayo Felony to contrast him delivery-wise on the mic, and also clearly told him to escalate immediately, which he does within his first four bars to wake up anyone that might be quietly nodding along with this in the background! Production is handled by Carlos "Six July" Broady, who is best known for his work with various New York artists but complements these Cali emcees perfectly.
[Illmind] The Last Poets, Dead Prez, Common : Panthers (Illmind Remix Instrumental)
Having my whole 12" collection digitised means that hidden gems like this one are easier to unearth, and this remix instrumental from the New Jersey/NYC is just such a gem - buried in a nine-track 12"! I remember seeing Illmind in the ughh.com producer forums back in the days, and it was great to see his dedication rewarded with a long and illustrious career. In the last few years he's not only been a producer but a teacher and mentor to many, which is worth of all the respect!
Nas : The Don
I could be wrong, but I tried to search the notes for the entire podcast collection and it looks like I somehow have managed never to play this track, which is incredible as I love it! Nas didn't perform it on his recent visit to Manchester, but I still remember the night DJ Mr Thing broke it out at In The Loop in Manchester, with the crowd calling for endless pull-ups 🔥 This is an absolute monster from the "Life Is Good" LP, where Nas demonstrates that even if you doubt his beat selections sometimes, he's extremely tough to match when he chooses to give you a big, anthemic, no-candy floss single! Salaam Remi is the producer, and his beat is a dancehall-flavoured banger punctuated by a thoroughly doom-laden kick section, and hooked by a masterful sampling of Super Cat's "Dance Inna New York". Definitely one of Nas' best singles.
Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre ft. Alus : Outta Da Blue
Huge new tune, with these two Los Angeles legends combining on the second (?) single from their upcoming LP "Missionary", set to be released on the revived, now Snoop-owned Death Row Records. Dre crafts an uptempo party jam, weaving in some 80s flavour, and bringing in New Jersey singer Alus on hook duties, including her own interpolation of MIA's "Paper Planes". If this is the mark to judge the album by, it could end up being one to stand proudly next to Snoop's debut "Doggystyle".
The Roots : Without A Doubt
Hearing the little snatches of the drum track (not sure if it's a sample or replay) for Schoolly D's "Saturday Nite" as part of the Snoop and Dre track made me reach for this great cut from The Roots' classic "Things Fall Apart" LP, and I was glad to find that I'd somehow never included it on the podcast before! It's a Philadelphia group of the time, arguably at the height of their powers, covering another Philly legend, and bringing in Lady B, a pioneering DJ from the city, in on backing vocals - an endeavour of brotherly and sisterly love!
L Swift ft. A-Butta : Ride This
Those crispy drums and that beautiful long intro made for a solid transition from Philadephia up to New York, where L Swift (now Swigga) of Natural Elements does his thing on this solo single from 2000, produced by Kenny Dope. With A-Butta of NE also on the feature, you're getting 2/3 of the crew on this track, which is never a bad thing when you're talking about some of the coldest lyricists of the era - and who have continued to keep the standards high to the present day.
[Track Addicts] PMD : Next Chapter
"Dramatic" is the only word you can use to describe this one, a B-side on the "Straight From Da Heart" 12" single which was drawn from Parrish Smith's third solo LP "The Awakening", which was his second after reuniting with Erick Sermon to re-form EPMD. While he's a skilled producer in his own right, PMD brings in Amsterdam's Track Addicts for this one, and they represent for their city well here.
namesbliss : Different Calibre
We had one of this man's tracks on the show a just couple of episodes back, but when I heard this new single I knew we had to feature him again! Scruz provides the bass-heavy beat with the repeating high-mid synth locking you in for the wordplay-heavy work from Namesbliss, who still manages to come through clear as a bell.
Pa Salieu : Dece (Heavy)
I would 100% not have known how to pronounce the name of this track had Pa not said it on the hook! Recently home after some time away, Pa Salieu is an MC out of the Midlands of Gambian background who brings the Afrobeats flavour to the drill/grime world, with this brand new single being a shining demonstration. He comes out this fresh, bouncy beat, matching it measure for measure and confidently playing around within the rhythm, stamping his authority on the track. Heavy indeed.
Slim Thug ft. C.Ward, Killa Kyleon, Sir Daily, and PJ : Boyz N Blue
For this track we go all the way back to Slim Thug's major label debut "Already Platinum", which was a bold and factual statement for an MC who had built a loyal following and, by all accounts, quite a bankroll, doing his own thing independently out of Houston long before the big labels came calling to get in on the action. He's only sparingly on this track as he generously shares the spotlight with a bunch of guests, with each MC taking about four bars each before passing the mic to the next man. The beat by T.A. is classic Houston riding music, and he uses a classic local style for the hook, with the slowed and slightly shopped vocal sample which I'd love to identify - the way it's used here definitely enhances the track.
Leftfield : Chant Of A Poor Man
The kind of electronic low-tempo music that the UK has always done so well is on display here, twenty-five years after it was released as part of the "Rhythm and Stealth" LP, Leftfield's second. That LP managed to reach #1 on the UK Albums Chart - nice to know the quality was appreciated in the mainstream! Cheshire Cat (who did not look anything like I might have expected), a live collaborator of the group, provides the reggae-styled vocals here over the slow, deep production, which really shines on a high-quality system.
[El-P] Run The Jewels : Run The Jewels (Instrumental)
The title track to the first Run The Jewels LP wasn't one of my go-to tunes on there, but I may have to re-evaluate that - this is a mean, mean beat. El-P cooked up one for your workout playlists for sure.
Termanology & Tek ft. Flash : Boom Bap Or Die
The combination of Tek and Termanology is Teknology, which I absolutely love! Anyway, these two East Coast spitters combine on this new track with a man who has been performing for many years in different situations - people who remember the Lyricist Lounge era might know him as Flashy of Cipher Complete, while others may know his association with the Ruff Ryders crew. The title is bold, but one I can get behind, as the MCs run back-to-back with no hook over a bumping Nottz beat that very much fits the mold of modern boom-bap while bearing one of his signature styles. The forthcoming "Teknology" LP will be one to make listening space for.
Sndtrak : Letsdanse
This man plays no games when it comes to flipping and breaking down a sample, and right here a David Bowie/Nile Rodgers classic gets the treatment, twitching and stumbling with a rhythm all its own on one of the many top-shelf tracks from "Flips V1 : Triple Lindy". I should get bonus points for being able to get a clean mix with this one! 😆
Illa J ft. Guilty Simpson and J.Rocc : R U Listening?
Over to Detroit for a single from the 2008 "Yancey Boys" album, featuring the union of siblings Illa J and the late J Dilla. Dilla is only on production on this track, with Illa J taking the bulk of mic duties and Motor City stalways Guilty Simpson guesting on the second verse. The title and even the actual lyrics make me think of all the people who lumped Slum Village in with "conscious rap"...because they clearly were not listening to what was actually being said, just riding off the sonic vibes! J.Rocc of the Beat Junkies rounds things out with some tight cuts; go and buy a copy of this track or listen to it on streaming to hear them in full, as we needed to blend out early to head to...
Geechi Suede ft. Tenille Ramos : Garavani Gold
One half of Camp Lo spitting in his distinctive superfly, ultra-slang style on a track that isn't just short but actually cuts off abruptly right at the end, so I had to work around that! "Fishnet Skyscrapers" was missed by most, but is a solid fifteen-track mixtape/LP that we've dipped into before, and I'm sure we will again! As far as I'm aware this was a digital-only release (and it's not even on Discogs), so I don't have any credits for the smooth production here, but it's a job well-done.
Sven Van Hees : Ocean Jive
Belgium's Sven Van Hees started off as a DJ back in 1985, but only started releasing his own albums in 1996. They're spectacular collections of chillout music in the main, with this track coming from "Gemini", his second. Vinyl of this is crazy expensive these days, but you can find the CD much more reasonably-priced on the used market - then let it play, and relax...
Tall Black Guy x Nate Smith x Marvin Gaye : Run To My Mother And Father
In a true case of "if you snooze, you lose", TBG had this track up on Bandcamp for just seven days - so I felt lucky to have been awake enough not to miss it! The signature warm synth production and thick drums back up the sampled vocals of the late great Marvin Gaye, and speaking of those drums - they're a flip of "Pocket Change 2" by multiple Grammy nominee drummer Nate Smith, and a perfect fit here. This number gives us a grooving, soulful end to the episode.
Please remember to support the artists you like! The purpose of putting the podcast out and providing the full tracklist is to try and give some light, so do use the songs on each episode as a starting point to search out more material. If you have Spotify in your country it's a great way to explore, but otherwise there's always Youtube and the like. Seeing your favourite artists live is the best way to put money in their pockets, and buy the vinyl/CDs/downloads of the stuff you like the most!
Check out this episode!

Just beat the Elden Ring DLC and I have a lot of thoughts. Overall I'd say it's a banger as always, but has some disappointing parts. More thoughts below, and there'll be story spoilers so be warned.
First of all let me start with the praise. The shadow realm is even more gorgeous than the main game, and there's a surprising amount of areas and secrets to find. The open world exploration was top notch once again with tons of interesting things to see and find. Although I felt like there was quite a bit of empty pointless space. There'd be a big part of the map that made me think "ooh there's probably something here" and there wasn't. Some crafting items and assorted enemies, but no dungeons or items.
Talking of dungeons, I really loved the dungeon design. Even though some repeated like the gaols or forges they were visually interesting and had some cool stuff in them. I do wish the dungeons had a marika statue or something midway through, because they can stretch pretty long.
There's a ton of cool weapons and spells to find and I was over the moon how cool some of them were, like the smithscribe weapons that you can throw. I switched my build three times during the DLC just because I wanted to try out different things. The new weapon types also kick ass and are an interesting addition. Boss weapons like messmers spear and the guillotine axe were fantastic.
I don't know if it was just me, but the bosses were really good. They had a lot of cool designs and none of them had annoying mechanics like self healing attached to them. Also no two full health bars! Except for one tricky flower. Most bosses had a proper phase transition at 50% of HP or something like that. I really don't want to see a repeat of sister Friede from DS3. I had a ton of fun fighting these bosses and beat them all without ashes and summons. Except the final boss.
The final boss was balls to the walls ridiculous. This was the first time in any souls game I felt like the climb over that wall was impossible. Radahn and Miquella really kicked my ass. Radahns combination of fast and slow hits was annoying, and in phase two Miquellas hair and particle effects obscure Rahadns attacks making it even twice as annoying. Eventually I beat the boss with the help of a player summon, I was already done with this game at this point.
Now some negatives/criticisms. I felt that the reward for exploration was at times inconsistent. Sometimes you find cool shit then the others you find the most random crap like 10 arrows or smithing stones that you can already buy in endless numbers. Don't get me started on cookbooks and random crafting items. As someone who barely crafts it sucks to find a secret spot, and your reward is a cookbook for something you'll never use or craft anyway.
The re-use of main game bosses was also very very disappointing. Every single re-occurring boss also appears in the DLC. Tree spirits, star beast, dragons, tree sentinel, magma wyrm etc... Although it was funny, the DLC was so tough that these enemies felt super easy to take on. There are also re-used enemies in random places. Although now that I think about it, Erdtree Avatars didn't appear in the DLC. The new tears are dropped instead by the furnace golems that are tedious to fight.
I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but god I wish they returned to a more small scale formula again. Fromsoftware works best when not placed in an open world, shit feels unique and it feels like there's always something new to find instead of crafting materials and repeat bosses. They still know how to do amazing level design, Shadow Keep was an absolute banger.
But, in classic Fromsoftware fashion Shadow of the Erdtree was amazing. Even with my nitpicks I can't deny that this is a labor of love and some of the best content they have produced. Even if my old bones don't 100% vibe with them.

DRIVE TO THIS TUNE WITH CAUTION: OTIS WARNS THERE'S A BREAK AHEAD WITH LATEST SINGLE
Reviewed by: Lyssa Culbertson
Tumblr media
In the fast track that is music, cover songs can be a dime a dozen akin to those massed produced metal shells you puttering down the road, but a quality cover song is well worn like a beautiful, vintage car—recognizable, comfortable, and enjoyable as it eases right on in and parks itself in the mind, triggering warm memories of good times had to the soundtrack of that particular tune. However, to me, the true mark of the *perfect* cover song is one where an artist reinvents the wheel so well that it is utterly unobvious that the track was previously cut before. Kentucky’s bonafide scholars of the rockin' blues, OTIS, recently accomplished that feat (the feat of pulling the wool over my eyes, that is) with their cover of Betty Harris’s 1969 release of the southern-fried, soulful funk tune, “There’s a Break in the Road,” penned and produced by the incomparable Allen Toussaint. Although I love all things blues, country, rock, and more from the 50s era on, I have to admit the area of soul music isn’t quite my expertise. With hearing OTIS’s rendition, I was stoked to dive further into Harris’s history and ultimately wished she had continued making music and found the success she craved, though her mystique and legacy were certainly left with her final recording.
youtube
Moving onto the absolute gem that OTIS created as they lent their talents to the long-revered tune, I'm chomping at the bit to let readers know they need to not only take the tune for a test drive, but also buy it for life! if I could step back in time and take Boone Froggett (frontman) to the recording booth with Harris, I’d love to see how his husky, bluesy vocals juxtapose against the raw, brassy power packed in Harris’s. I can imagine it would be literal fire—and I don’t even mean proverbial flames. Literal. How the studio wasn’t set ablaze during the live, full band take that the single was recorded in is beyond me! With that being said, the monstrous punch packed in their voices is ultimately where the similarities end, and that is a beautiful thing. Froggett and his bandmates took a borderline raucous, yet swinging soulful classic and brought it into the 21st century by adapting it into a driving, heavy—but not overbearing— banger with a hint of blues that sonically fits into their style, yet also skyrockets them into another aural sphere altogether. From the 0-60 beginning where you get a few seconds of a riveting guitar riff before hit hard with the first lines, I t’s still soul—and I believe quality rock cannot exist outside the realm of being fueled by a little soul food, but man…it’s unlike anything I’ve ever heard from the band before. With a fresh new lineup (Boone Froggett as frontman/guitarist, John Seeley on bass, Alex Wells playing guitar, and Dale Myers on the drums), it’s plain to see that OTIS is back and ready to rock and roll out some long-awaited new music in ‘24.
Tumblr media
Now—back to the single. Lyrically, the tune is written from a jilted lover’s point of view and likens the lover to an obsolete car (“like the last years model…you put me down”) as it cautions the leaver of the misfortune to come by picking up the new, shiny model and throwing the former dependable devotee to the wayside. As he sings from the POV of a now forlorn inamorato, Froggett bellows the warning woven throughout the verses with an intense passion as he bemoans being left behind for a ritzy paramour by “the only girl who could turn [him] on and make a bad man out of [him].” By the end of the track, the man has become resolute in the fact that the woman would experience the same ol’ game that was ran on him, the karma of her wicked ways. Listeners can be clear on the fact that the caution isn’t given out of the goodness of his heart, but out of a taste for revenge served cold—as it sometimes happens after a fervent affair. From a songwriter’s stance, I always love a quality jam that plays into the depths of metaphorical phrases that make you think—the title itself is a perfect example, and that line about the windshield wipers?! Come on now, what a play on words...so good! Either as an early warning, a last lament or simply a statement in general, the repetition of the phrase “there’s a break in every road” foretells the existence of the choices we have in life that can quickly alter our worlds with the positive or negative consequences that follow. Or, if you were to take the meaning as less of a fork of choices in each road taken in life and more of a Deep South viewpoint that every road is plagued with potholes (the breaks) and no road is bump-free, you can still find the merit in the message: be careful what you wish for. Froggett and his bandmates succeeded in making the whole song sound like a sultry, sassy admonition wrapped up in a well-meaning, albeit vindictive, farewell to a lost partner. First listen, you’re swept up in the music; fingers tappin' and heads bangin' are imminent. Perhaps you'll hop in your car and hit the road on a sunshine and 75 kind of day, windows down with it blaring on your speakers—hopefully avoiding all the potholes, er breaks! Then, you hear the words and get to decide whether there’s anyone you just might need to spread the gospel of OTIS (and Betty Harris) to, if you catch my drift. Even if there's not someone who needs to heed the warning in your life, HHMR thinks it merits being taken for a drive and shared with the world.

Yooo as someone lucky enough to work with her, I second the recommendation for Sarah, who you can follow at @hms-no-fun/
I would also want to throw a couple of other queer YouTubers onto the pile. (In Alphabetical Order)
Adequate Emily
Emily produces a lot of great videos reviewing and analyzing different films. Some are from a queer theory perspective, others tap into more historical examples. My current favorite video from her is about the 1970 antifascist masterpiece The Conformist.
youtube
Anansi's Library
R. Anansi discusses several topics relating to history, literature, and political theory. In addition to their essays, they also sometimes do spoken word poetry, which is pretty cool. I would recommend their video discussing the rhetoric behind the idea of "Protect Women"
youtube
Aranock
@aranock is someone else I've been lucky to work with. Lots of their videos offer an interesting perspective on the queer experience, including a video called Queer Relativity that is pretty cool, though my favorite is still their video discussing Midnight Mass.
youtube
La Femme Fictionale
Sam's videos explore different subjects from an Acesexual perspective, which is something you don't see as much in the video essay space. Her most recent video discussing the Boleyn girls will be interesting for anyone who enjoys Six or any other historical media relating to Henry VIII.
youtube
Laura Crone
You may have seen her videos about Riley Sager or REPO! but Laura's vids offer an interesting mixture of film and music theory, theology and literature. There are too many of her vids to choose from, but her most recent video about Ghost is an absolute banger that needs way more views.
youtube
LauraKBuzz
Laura is an extremely talented writer, editor, and accessibility activist who was the first out trans person I followed online thanks to my favorite podcast podquisition, Her videos on the games industry and accessibility come recommended to anyone who is interested in making gaming more inclusive. She also edited a book called Gender Euphoria, which is a collection of stories by trans, non-binary, and intersex writers sharing positive experiences of the Non-Cis experience. If you are interested in hearing about the queer experience in a way that doesn't fixate on queer suffering, this is a pretty good read.
Offbeat Kiki
@offbeatkiki is one of the best people discussing animation on YouTube right now. As someone who is also known for discussing cartoons online, it is nice whenever you can find other creators who tries to take a more constructive perspective on the medium. Case in point, they made a video about the 1992 Tom and Jerry Movie that presented a poignant perspective on a film that I absolutely despised and dismissed growing up.
youtube
Rantasmo
When it comes to Queer video essayists, it is shocking that people don't mention Rantasmo as one of the earliest voices in this space, as they were doing Queer analysis all the way back in the days of Channel Awesome. His videos were some of my first exposure to queer culture growing up and were vital in helping to develop my perspective today.
youtube
Transparency
I've recommended @transparencyboo's videos a number of times before, and have even received help from Kiki of @marsmombestmom in my remaster of my Moomin video, but I want to once again remind you to go watch Transparency, you cowards. They produce multi hour retrospectives on different video games and likewise make some of the most underrated gaming videos online right now with great art, stellar writing, and insightful analysis. My current favorite is their video is their two and a half hour retrospective on the Star Fox series that you should check out.
youtube
Videokind
Primarily hosted by @mattjcrowley, Videokind produce some of the best essays discussing film online. Not only is Matt an extremely talented writer, he's also such a genuinely nice guy. I absolutely recommend you watch their most recent video, which is a total evisceration of The Whale and the ways Brendan Fraser's great performance masks the vile implications of that garbage movie.
youtube
Wensleydale Cheddar
I'm a little biased on this one cause I co-host the podcast Podcastmon Adventures with them, but Wensleydale produces amazing podcasts discussing World Trigger and other manga. We are currently working our way through the Pokémon Adventures manga, and I especially love the expertise and care they put into everything they do. Well worth a follow!
youtube
My shout-out to queer youtubers
Hbombs list was great but obviously not comprehensive. I watch a lot of video essayists and wanted to give a little love to the smaller channels that fall under the radar. Please feel free to add to this list!
let's talk about stuff/Sarah Zedig
If you've seen Jesse Gender's videos on the Matrix movies you may already be familiar with Sarah. She does excellent film and culture analysis with a lot of great conversations on paratext and outside influence in engaging with text. Her video on Tunic is one of my favorites.
youtube
Pamphleteer
No one makes videos like hers, which has the side effect making them a bit hard to describe. I will link one of my favorites which describes the disconnected temporality of being older when you discover you're queer.
youtube
Turbo Queer
Really really under watched channel. Skylar covers a lot of topics from video games, to anarchist history and modern events, to autistic life, to current politics. For a fun one check out her video on the SpongeBob strike episode.
youtube
Kaz Rowe
Kaz does a fantastic job examining modern myths and manufactured history primarily pertaining to western Europe, Victorian & Edwardian England, and 1800-1900s US. And of course, talking about historical queerness in all its ambiguities and evolutions. I highly recommend their video on Weimar Germany.
youtube
drapetomania
drapetomania interrogates the politics of low class and high class art and entertainment from a queer and Black perspective. Their art history videos alone cover many angles of white supremacist history I haven't seen anyone else discuss and I'm very excited to see more from them. They are also a very under viewed channel that more people should see!
youtube
I am error
Evelynn's channel primarily discusses video games in a presentation style and voice most similar to Action Button reviews. There's something just a bit more personal here though. I hesitate to say cozy since that word has a bit of an infantilizing connotation, maybe comforting is closer. She puts an immense amount of thought and empathy into the experience of playing video games and the personal narratives we build with them.
youtube
Swolesome
For more transmasc perspectives there's Swolesome. He has a lot of interesting insights into the more traditionally masculine and "broish" communities like fitness as well as commentary on recent trans issues.
youtube
Shonalika
Music, disability, and aggressively non-binary. Their video on gender presentation in heavy metal was really insightful. I would also check out the video "Why I Wear Gloves" for more insight on invisible disabilities.
youtube
Vivian Strange
Vivian delights in being a bit of a contrarian- something I really appreciate. She's probably going to challenge you and you're probably going to disagree at times, which is what makes her channel so important. Her video on Marquis De Sade is powerful and a must watch (if you can stomach the subject material, although I would encourage you to try). I haven't seen her most recent video on Saw yet but I am extremely excited to.

Note
You do not by any means have to answer all of these, but I love when people talk about their own writing, their writing process, and where they got started with fanfiction (especially since you're the writer of a banger like tabula rusa!) so; 4, 18, 23, 28, 33, 44, 48, 49!
I only just saw this I'm so sorry!! I wasn't ignoring you at all, I love it when people ask me about my writing <333
4) What is your favourite genre to write for?
I am an angsty bitch at heart, it has to be said. I see a character go through unspeakable trauma and suffering and go: 'huh. I think they need some more of that actually'.
18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?
So many. So, so many. I try to orphan works I'm 100% sure that I'm never coming back to, just to avoid giving people false hope, but there are definitely a lot of them floating out there on the interwebs -- and a lot of WIPs that have been waiting years for the motivation to write to return. Usually, I just lose interest, or I have a new idea that I like better, but sometimes I write myself into a corner (the pitfalls of hardly ever planning, alas) and it's just too hard to get myself out of. I'm not proud, but that's the truth.
23) Do you prefer listening to music when you’re writing or do you need silence?
Honestly I can write either way, but if I am listening to music it's very rarely anything that connects to the story. I know some writers have fic playlists and stuff but I've never had that kind of patience, I just write when I write, and sometimes that has a soundtrack and sometimes it doesn't.
28) What is something you wished you’d known before you started posting fanfiction?
You don't owe anyone your writing. Even if it's a popular story, even if it's been years, even if you left it on a cliffhanger -- this is something I and a lot of others do for the love of the source material and story telling. It's not a job. You can just stop if you don't like it anymore, and that's absolutely fine.
33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?
I've always wanted to go into writing professionally one day, and I'm currently on a bit of a detour from that main goal, primarily due to my CFS. Back during lockdown, I was writing a few oneshots for Smallville which was one of the shows I binged over that whole period, and considering it's a 20 year old show I wasn't expecting to get a whole lot of engagement. Then I got the loveliest comment from someone asking if I was published, and if I wasn't why. It made me feel really good about my skill level and ability, because I have been writing fic for over ten years now and although sometimes I will feel like I'm plateauing, stuff like that reminds me that I've actually gotten pretty good at it.
44) What is the last line you wrote?
It is from tabula rasa, although I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it in, as this whole next chapter is being a bitch:
“You need to have a purpose beyond being his child,” she takes a breath, like she’s steeling herself for something, but just says: “and he would agree with me.”
48) What’s your favourite trope to write?
I know a lot of people don't like them, and have good reason for it, but I have always loved reading and writing genderbends. The first one I ever wrote I think was for Stiles from Teen Wolf, but I've since turned a lot of canon cis male characters into cis female characters just because I love looking at how socialisation differs, how differently they're viewed and treated, how they might be fundamentally the same and different etc. Pretty much every fandom I've ever really gotten fixated on has had me produce one of these: I did multiple fem!Jon Snows, a fem!Thor that never saw the light of day, fem!Cesare Borgia (but a fictionalised Cesare Borgia, if that makes it any better?), fem!Umbrella Academy, am currently doing a fem!Spider... hell, I'm probably forgetting some I did and then orphaned. I just love them, they're like crack to me.
49) Can you remember the first fic you read? What was it about?
I cannot - statistically, it was probably Harry Potter or Percy Jackson, or something very similar. Although a very early one I remember reading and loving was a Wrong BWL fic which set off a small obsession at the time.
