Usually finding out you have something in common with a new acquaintance is a positive thing, but sometimes it's extremely dangerous. Spotlight: Jazz is peak Prowl being able to comfort Jazz even though Jazz doesn't want to open up about how he's feeling and Prowl completely respects that

i love their dynamic so much here and in "all hail megatron", it's such a shame that their connection ended up being completely forgotten in the rest of idw series... reading "optimus prime" and coming across that one frame, observing what we have had and lost because the authors couldn't keep in mind how and who they were writing... it actually hurts

you guys. you guys! why are you doing this to us. why is it so hard for you to keep track on your story!! why do we have to see their relationship... fall apart?? without a decent look at it?? somewhere out there, in the background?? we're just left with the fact that they are over or maybe never even were there in the first place

prowl and jazz had so much potential at some point of idw history. the way how well they worked together despite all the difficulties, how sincerely prowl supported jazz even though he remained very closed off and aloof the whole time, how he really tried to be a good loyal friend, respected jazz's personal boundaries, didn't push, didn't go too far with his concern, didn't except anything in return and was just there to help... a rare bright moment for this version of my poor boy :'D

there were so many opportunities to develop this further, to show how they could exist in the new cybertronian future for which they had gone through so much hardship, how could they fight all the problems that were coming down on them, together, exactly as it was on earth. but, alas, we have to accept that they were quickly brushed aside and forgotten. a little time passes and they become strangers. forever. their entire bond is just erased. because that's how idw works with their characters...

Do you ever feel like Luo Binghe, as a character, wasn't... complete? This is difficult to explain but he's a mirror. He's the Hero™ but mostly, he's a reflection of the villain. He's exactly whatever his teacher made him. In PIDW, Luo Binghe was what Shen Jiu was, someone who couldn't accept his life and himself and pushed that hate onto the world. Someone who despised men, craved power, and found comfort only in women. In SVSSS, Luo Binghe is what Shen Yuan is, someone who wants to be kind but fails to be so, couldn't accept himself, and pushes that hate onto himself. Internalising his shame. Someone who is isolated from others, obsessed with an entity that's built on a fa��ade, and doesn't truly exist in reality.

Is it a commentary on how children mimic the adults in their life? Is it about heroes and villains being more similar than they think? Or is it Luo Binghe's true nature to be whatever people expect him to be? Is he so much of a character that he's hardly a person?

What's often interesting to me, is Dream spells it out in the finale and people often still don't get it, so I thought it'd be interesting to see what he was actually referencing here. To see where it all started.

[24:27] Tommy: “That first war, me and Tubbo versus you–how it should have ended–why’d you take it?” Dream: “Tommy, you ambushed me and killed me. You stole all my shit! You tried ambushing me in a little cave–you don’t remember that? I feel like you just–your memory is just–gone.”

So here is the ambush Dream is talking about, where Sapnap and Tommy basically decide to just kill Dream and then kept all of his shit. [Death 1]

He gets killed again when he tries to take back his stuff. [Death 2]

Tommy kills him for fun right after he respawns with nothing. [Death 3]

Then after Dream gets his stuff back (via our boy Punz) and he takes the discs to get Tommy to stop, he gives Tommy back his items. But unsatisfied, Tommy goes after Dream, gets one of his discs back and hides it in the little cave. Dream tries to find it, while Sapnap and Tommy try to stop him. They are unsuccessful until, Tubbo brings them axes and they sneak up and corner Dream in the little cave, ambushing and killing him. Once again, taking all of his shit, (including, yes, the other disc.) [Death 4]

[27:58] Tommy: “Think about that, we could’ve been friends but no because you have to figure out the reason you have to get–”  Dream: “Yeah we could’ve but you–you ruined the chance of that long ago. It was you.” Tommy: “I ruined it?” Dream: “You ruined it!”

And I don’t think it’s unfair for Dream to say that in the finale, because for Dream it’s this stream early on, these moments that started it all. It’s these instances of Dream getting murdered and robbed and made fun of over and over. Him, trying to not just make peace for everyone, but also reclaim respect and peace for himself. It’s Tommy chasing after Dream when he has nothing to kill him and rub it in his face. It’s Dream, even after all of that, giving back their items. It’s these instances of violence taken too far to the point they clearly pissed Dream off and didn’t care or follow his very simple request of just giving an apology and his belongings back that shape my distaste for Tommy and sympathy for Dream. It’s these moments that I feel like are gone from Tommy’s and our memory that highlight a different story.

im not here to like invalidate how other poc/asians specifically feel about gemma/ms casey and her storyline thus far but like, idk i really dont have notes. i love her. i find her to be one of the most relatable characters in fiction to me. there are a lot of arguments that she falls into certain stereotypes/tropes but the way i see it is that real life pushes asian women/fems into these boxes. like i am a (w)asian nonbinary lesbian, i've been loud and annoying and opinionated my whole life, and then i hit a place a few years ago where i found myself shrinking, trying to be quiet and small in order to get by. like, i felt like i was turning into someone else. kinda like.... ms casey/gemma. anyway the miscarriage stuff, idk i definitely get how that could bother people but it is also just in line with the themes of the show. i don't relate to wanting to have a child or miscarriages specifically, but i've wanted something terribly, worked really hard for it, and had it taken from me in a painful way and had that need to restore it used against me. is this way too much? idk. i just love gemma/casey/all of her innies so much and it hurts to see her reduced by certain readings, but i also want to respect people who don't feel comfortable with her portrayal. but. i love her forever until i die.

Unpopular opinion, but I really do not see Dany as this "oh so tragic" and "oh so full of trauma" character. She has bad things happen to her like every other ASOIAF character, but she isn't really super traumatized or unable to deal with what happens in her life, and the tone of her story isn't really one of tragedy: on the contrary, her story is full of her overcoming hardships. It's full of triumphs. Even the low point she hits at the end of ADWD is just setting up her journey to finally crush the slavers and become the Stallion who Mounts the World. And then when she goes to Westeros, she will be one of the people to defeat the Others.

I find it a little bit annoying when I see people reading her character purely through the lens of "oh she suffered to much, she was raped by her husband, she was abused by her brother, she doesn't have a home, she is so tragic, etc" (I'm not saying people can't discuss these topics, by the way, I'm just saying that it annoys me when this is the ONLY thing people talk about when it comes to Dany). First, because this isn't the majority of her story, this is mostly part of her early story or backstory, and the main part of her story are the things she does after that, her triumphs and hardships trying to lead her people, fight a war, fight the status quo, and so on. It's a little annoying to see a character who has such a great complex political and magical storyline, a great adventure, all be reduced to "she is just an abused girl who suffered", with all other aspects of her story being ignored. But most importantly, I think this reading of Dany as this tragic character, by Dany stans and Dany haters alike, gives fuel to a bunch of other annoying readings of her character: the neutrals use the "oh so tragic" narrative to argue that her story has to end with her dying and she has nothing else to contribute to the main story other than sacrificing herself and be a tragic hero. Meanwhile, the antis use the "oh so tragic" narrative to claim that they sympathize with Dany, but her trauma is going to make her crazy, paranoid, a villain, etc. Or, when they don't say that her trauma is going to make her a villain, they claim that she was always a villain and use her "trauma" to claim that they sympathize with her and that her "trauma" makes her such a complex villain.

boarding schools (and Hillerska specifically) in fact and fiction

The results of this poll about whether or not you’d want to attend Hillerska have been revolving around in my head over the past few days. I flippantly voted yes (spoiled Swedish teens feel like a piece of cake compared to reality at the moment) but in practice generally agree with many of the reasons stated in the no column. So, if you did vote no and say why, know that I agree with you. This isn’t a post to argue against you or anything, this is just an extended wondering about something else.

At the same time, I noticed that we heard a lot from the nos and not as much from the yeses in response to this poll. In complete earnest, I wish we could have heard more from the yeses. (If you did vote yes and want to message me about your ideas one on one, I’d love to hear from you and I promise I don’t bite.) I’m curious to know if some of the same things about Hillerska-as-a-setting appealed to you as did me when I first started watching the show. Because it’s an engaging enough setting that I, you know, do own the Hillerska hoodie and all.

On one hand:

I do want to acknowledge how, in creating Hillerska, the writers drew on harrowing stories of real boarding schools—class hierarchy, insular social mores, outdated traditions, secrets, horrific acts of hazing. The writers researched all of this, interviewing former students, and incorporated that into Young Royals to increase the sense of realism and play to the show’s class commentary.

On the other hand:

I also started thinking about how the show leans into boarding schools as a literary device. In youth-centered fiction, boarding schools are a kind of liminal setting that facilitates independence from adults and a higher level of agency for teenage protagonists. These teens are called to make decisions and sort out conflicts amongst themselves. There’s this idea of, who can you become without your family looking over your shoulder? In what ways do you feel pressured to be like them, or to break away from them? And all the gothic architecture and uniforms and secrets and traditions are easy for writers to convey through a lens of romanticism.

And… Young Royals does not fully reject that romanticism. Indeed, it embraces it often. It uses the romantic boarding school angle to market the show and grab our attention—for example, see all the promo material where the characters are in their uniforms getting photographed for student picture day and such. The creative team offers us the romanticism of boarding school the same way they offer us the romanticism of intense first loves between princes and commoners.

I actually think Wilhelm and Simon’s relationship and Hillerska-the-liminal-space as a setting are very much intertwined. Hillerska is a catalyst for Wilhelm and Simon’s relationship; if Wilhelm fell in love with Simon in a club or on a train, and not in the school chapel where Simon is singing a solo in defiance of posh students who heckle him, their story would be completely different. I can’t (personally) imagine Wilhelm and Simon’s story without the beats of school parties in the Palace, or their hugs-in-white-nightgowns on Lucia night, or their stupid grins at one another during rowing practices, or their stolen kiss at the Valentine’s ball. The school provides a lot of obstacles to their relationship but it also facilitates these iconic moments of connection between the two of them, and I feel like in the first two seasons at least that’s supposed to matter.

And maybe, stick with me here, but I don’t… think it’s like, wrong, or hypocritical or whatever, that YR leans into romanticism and realism re: Hillerska at the same time? I actually think it’s pretty common in school-focused stories to put these two modes of storytelling in dialogue with one another? The romantic (in the literary sense, not the conventional) elements of a boarding school story are there to honor the tempestuous emotions of the teenage characters in their coming of age, as they bump up against adult pressures and the first hints of the “realistic” adult world. (I’m thinking about like, Dead Poet’s Society, and A Separate Peace, and A Great and Terrible Beauty as other examples of this. They all make social commentary through their setting but they also immerse you in it and sweep you up into it.)

I know Hillerska doesn’t survive the series and Wilhelm and Simon’s relationship does, and I’ve heard that after season 3 there were some things said in interviews and some extremely mixed messages about the setting at times. But also like… look. For all the later stumbles with the writing, I’m a slut for setting and a slut for setting as a way to reveal character arcs and facilitate relationships and Hillerska is a setting that captivated me from the beginning and it’s a lot of what made Young Royals what it was.

No I would not want to attend the school in real life as a real life human. Yes I would love to spend more time there in fiction because that is how fiction works, you get to explore settings you wouldn’t want to explore in real life. Go ahead and accuse me of being at the devil’s sacrament because didn’t we all meet at the devil’s sacrament?

- so many gay people in the audience that as I was walking in to the venue I said to my friend damn this is like a pride parade and a bunch of gay people in front of me were like TRUEE

- a live performance of both! dead and gone and rocks rock! it was so incredible. Beth and Will both POPPED OFFF!!!!!! they were so cool oh my god. and Freddie fucking shredded it on the electric guitar it was so sick.

- silly St Paul themed dad facts plus Ron just uhh thinking all manual labor is called a hand job.

- the people royally fucking up the dice roll (not my fault I was in the balcony I cannot be held responsible)

- the people absolutely manifesting the complete improv prompt as the live show topic. and all of the cast going into mourning over it (will fell to his knees on the stage so dramatically it was so funny)

- the cast deciding to do a DND game with their characters! Starring: Will Campos as Henry oak as Mr Chris (later Dr Chris), by the book health inspector! Matt Arnold as Darryl Wilson as Darryl, ex football quarterback now accomplished priest searching to remember all 10 commandments! Beth may as Ron stampler as Nor Relpmats, doctor (the best health inspector of them all)! and Freddie Wong as Glenn Close as Glenn The Closer, weed enjoyer moonlighting as a health inspector relying on his gut! Anthony Burch as Patrick as Patrick the shit (among other characters)!

- the audience not being able to stop being horny when giving suggestions for what their location, bad guy, and theme were gonna be (bdsm dungeon, just a guy from the audience named Patrick, and a 10 commandments dildo)

- an abundance of flashbacks and one single flashforward

- butt spanking competition to get past the second door (it is a bdsm castle ig)

-mr Chris tests to see if the floor has been cleaned recently and thinks it hasn't. Glenn the closers gut says it's fine but Mr Chris says if he tastes some of what's on the ground he'll be able to tell better. Glenn the Closer bites his fingers and Mr Chris is into it.

- Mr Chris finding a dead cockroach on the ground and revives it using CPR and mouth to mouth (Anthony is the cockroach and also when will tried to fake the mouth to mouth yelled DO IT PUSSY so yeah they actually kissed like twice at least) and revived it to ask about the cleanliness of the floor and found it not very.

- none other than paeden bennets on the second level, who Darryl proceeded to obliterate with a holy football. I'm not lying (not before asking how Patrick the DM knew about their friend Paeden who was long dead and us getting a lively npc on npc scene by Anthony of Patrick meeting Paeden and getting punched in the balls and saying "I'll never forget you")

- Test by the health inspectors to see if the blood of paeden would get cleaned up. all of the soots from spirited away came in with little mops to clean it and cleaned all the party. Glenn rolled to see if he's into it and got a 9 but the crowd gave inspiration and he got a 6, which is 69 so he was and wanted to stay there forever with the soots. Henry as Mr Chris used his persuasion to get Glenn the closer to leave the soots by saying that whatever they're doing he could do it better. because apparently they're ex lovers now. (Anthony yelled something about Will wanting to kiss another boy)

- Flashback reveals that they were highschool sweethearts but were going to health inspection schools on opposite sides of the US and were talking about how their relationship would progress from there when Mr Chris' secret lover barges in and informs them that they're pregnant and he's the father! Glenn the Closer gets upset and asks what happened and Mr Chris proceeds to another, extremely graphic, flashback where Ron the doctor commentates the uhhh conceiving of said child. and Glenn is understandably upset at the graphicness of this explanation about being cheated on. They end with bitter words, stating they're now nemesis in health inspection.

- Nor asks Mr Chris how long it's been since he saw his son Patrick. (not since birth lmao)

- they go up to the final level, find Patrick using the commandment dildo, on the 8th one I think, and upon seeing his absent father run in and ask "are ya winning, son!?"gets extremely turned off. he understandably asks what he's doing there after being absent his whole life. Mr Chris explains that he's finally ready to be back in his life, with his husband Glenn the closer, and his newfound belief in Christianity from Darryl the priest who's really good at football.

- Flashforward to Mr Chris and Glenn the Closer living together and apparently "they're bougie enough to have their own priest" so Darryl lives with them too. Nor comes to visit and we see the commandment dildo hanging above the mantle.

and that's that on that.

His alternate, 'human' form would be strongly based off of Yuji still, but with some differences.

(I've kinda drawn that as well, but I can definitely imagine it not exactly being clearly explained lol)

For one, he's significantly taller than Yuji (at least for now, the kid is most likely gonna grow to be not as much shorter lol) - although he can be shorter.

He usually isn't much 'shorter', because it's more comfortable - any much lower and it'd feel a bit like a too-tight shirt, but for your whole body lol

('down' to 6~ft/182~cm (wherein he usually stays at 6.4-5ft/193-195~cm) is the min. of proper comfiness)

He also wears earrings (I usually imagined some simple black ones, but he could just as well wear something Hello Kitty related lol (both for the Meme and just because) or just cute, or more colourful), and his left eyebrow has two slits - to kinda connect him visually to his Big Form heh

(I'm kinda contemplating adding some other things but yeah that's the bigger things heh)

And, although usually he only has these whilst in the Bigg form, he can have four arms, stomach mouth, and such whilst 'small' as well - but yeah, that's not exactly something that'd be useful/possible to use in public 😂

As shown in Chapter 2 of Visuals (although it is a different timeline, SIkuna is SIkuna lol), he can sometimes forget to close his secondary eyes, especially at the beginning of the Separation or when kinda mentally tired - it's just much more natural for them to be open

Some random person is more likely to assume they imagined it or he just had good cosplay than actual four eyes though, so hey at least there's that saving him

Not to mention interference from the kids he's likely hanging out with lol, Nobara is a quick-thinking Queen when her older familial figure is being a dum-dum and forgoring 💀 how to Human properly and we love her for it 👏

Since I imagine her dragging SIkuna out for clothes shopping relatively often, perhaps with other kids as well - and SIkuna doesn't mind it at all, he loves actively participating in the kids' hobbies 🥺 - she probably had to cover for his spookiness and such quite often lmao, even if he tries his best 😂

He is very respectful and polite to any workers they might encounter during their shopping though (well, assuming they aren't being unreasonably rude themselves but that's rare, especially in Japan I'd imagine), so fortunately even despite his Vibes being Very Off the two (or more) usually end up being a nice surprise to them actually lmao

- the fact that SIkuna likely takes everything that isn't chosen back perfectly into place whilst waiting for Nobara/other kids to put another outfit on probably makes their spookiness easier to deal with as well 😂😂😂

(He's not 'spared' from dressing up, but he can lighten the load on the workers' shoulders a little bit while he waits his turn, you know - he might be partially old as hell and from a time where that would have been unheard of to do for the sake of 'servants', but he also is partially someone from the 2020's lmao, he gets the pain)

(Imagine crossovers with Canon whilst he's in this form though lol, I feel like one Quite painful Misunderstanding that could happen is that This Other Sukuna apparently completely took over an older Yuji or something (since he clearly isn't there but Sukuna looks. like he looks.) OOF-)
