Me, finding an old interview, reading:

Then, they learn that Radovid is now the bloody king of Redania (in the middle of a war with Nilfgaard, no less), and things just became so much more dangerous for anyone romantically involved with him; and Geralt can't say anything about it because he's the dumbass that went back into a big crumbling building to save a mad fucking witch!

No but seriously, I suppose that Joey didn't mean "people like that" as in "people of great political power that makes being intimate and becoming romantically involved with them inherently dangerous" specifically; probably more like a blanket statement.

But that's how it spontaneously came across, and JFC! Joey! What an overly dramatic thing to say!

I mean, from Jaskier's P.O.V. it would 100% make sense, I guess. He's just been this sweet little penguin traveling the Continent, slipping on rocks, falling in love with people left and right, regardless of the risks potentially involved...

...occasionally looking for an abandoned egg or kid to adopt and look after with another male, as penguins do...

... and the idea that you should never be intimidated into not falling in love with someone, no matter how much it might make you suffer, being at the very core of Jaskier's identity to the point where he feels like he'd just be utterly erased from existence if he ever used any common sense and stopped himself from ever loving on someone tracks!

I get it.

But from you?

There are plenty of other reasons to exist, Joey!

(Though being a loving human being in the general sense indeed should be part of the many reasons to be put on this Earth, I absolutely give you that!)

Between Radovid essentially telling his brother that Jaskier is the one thing he was put on the Continent to do, and you basically making it sound like "What's the point of Jaskier's existence if he doesn't put himself out there to fall in love and intimately connect with people like Radovid?", I really can't tell which one is being more ridiculous (way to dial the romance up to 11!), and I'm 100% here for it!

spoilers for scott thompson's new one-man-show "the last gloryhole" bc tonight was the first night of the tour and i'm so proud of him but even tho we're in the same room he's about to go to sleep so i probably shouldn't bombard him with how proud i am of him

so basically. remember my "goodbye phillip thompson" essay from a few months back after scott's father passed away?

and how i mentioned the trauma of having a violently homophobic dad informed a lot of scott's early comedy so it's genuinely so heartwarming to hear about how scott was able to reconnect and build a positive relationship with his father in their final years together?

well. in scott's 1993 one man show "champagne soul" he transitions from scott to buddy with scott talking about his dad, saying "In the 50s and 60s men were given women and children to terrorize. We called them families. Now, I'm not gonna have any kids, and my friends would rather I didn't beat them, so whenever I get really angry and I'm dreaming about having kids to beat, I create a character. I understand my father a lot more now that I'm older and have kids of my own. I even have one child with a lisp."

and tonight. in scott's 2025 one man show "the last gloryhole" after doing the full show as buddy he transitions back to scott for a final piece, not to get rid of buddy but just to give buddy some rest. and he opens the piece as himself by talking about how despite their difficult history he loved his dad, and the last ten years of his life were the best in their relationship.

and yeah that's why instead of "that was awesome" or "you were hilarious" the first thing i said to scott after his show was "i'm so proud of you"

we also had a conversation tonight where scott said he really hasn't changed since he was in his 20s and i responded "no, but you've grown" and i think that's really special. bc change is important when something fundamentally doesn't work, but it's good to stay true to your core values and still give yourself room to become the best version of yourself and i see scott aiming for that every day

i just read the book "comedy book" by jessie david fox and i think this is a quote he cited from someone else but in it he describes the job of a comedian as "some people are meant to live as examples of people" not necessarily role models to be followed but as the pinnacle of a way to be. and i can't think of a better example than scott
