No Map, No Plan is a GMless roleplaying game for one to four players based on Cat McDonald's Carta system, in which you take on the role of a thief (or thieves) completely winging the heist of a rich estate with zero preparation or foreknowledge, in complete violation of the common sense about such things.

Cards conceal obstacles, chances to recover, loot, and even the way out, and you'll move from card to card discovering things as you go along. You’ll respond to prompts, try to remain stealthy, acquire treasure, and try to find your way out before you can get caught. Last week I was awarded Best Actual Play video at Minnesota Webfest!

What's an actual play video? Last spring, through dramatic improvisational gameplay, I acted out a story while streaming. That means I had no script! I only had my character (the last surviving astronaut on a spaceship) and an elevator pitch: you're being hunted by a creature aboard the ship. I learned with the live audience how my character's story would unfold and reacted in-character to the events.

I'm really proud of this achievement since this was a completely solo project (complete with greenscreens and two camera feeds)!

Today has not been a great day. AP Scheduling issues, family issues & hurtful trash taking itself out, all dogpilled on depression that woke me up this morning. Wouldn't recommend. So I played my first session of Ironsworn Starforged tonight, as a treat. My current TTRPG Dev project - is a Kaiju SoloTTRPG hexcrawl and micro-setting. I’ve always loved Kaiju and yokai but two things inspired me to use them in my SoloTTRPG. One my 4yo son, and two one of my favorite blogs Monster Brains.

Earlier this year my son (3yo at the time) and I started watching Godzilla movies together while we’re both sick. I was watching the original black & white classic and he crawled up next to me and watched the entire movie in black & white and in the original Japanese with English subtitles. I saw his interest so I showed him Son of Godzilla next. Figuring he’d like Godzilla’s son. I was also trying to find the most kid-friendly Gojira movies. We’ve since watched a huge chuck of the catalog (last checked there were 38 films total. The vast majority produced by TOHO…oh and one with Brian Cranston lol). For my sons 4th birthday, a few weeks ago, all her wanted to get were Godzilla toys, which I happily obliged. We draw monsters and Kaiju together, watch clips & Kaiju toy channels on YouTube,, we video movies with his toys…we’ve fallen in deep!

The bond we formed over Kaiju is so far one of my favorite dad moments. I’ve liked Godzilla and giant robots since I was a little kid too, but I’ve never went full fanboy or got any deeper than watching the movies from time to time. The crazy part is he is the true fanboy! I’m in because he’s in! He doesn’t just love the Kaiju, he loves me, and or little fan-verse is formed and of love. I have a really cool kid.

The SoloRPG is taking all that, the Kaiju, the father and son, the love, the bond as the driving force behind it. The game is about a kid and a wounded Kaiju, creating bonds, friendship, and love in full destruction of the world as they know it.

Over Ponyville - Day 0

Over Ponyville (An Over the Mountain MLP Solo Play)

I'm in my MLP phase again and I wanted to try combining it with Solo Roleplaying for something cozy and relaxing. I'll be using not just marchcrow's Over the Mountain base rules, but kind of experimenting as I go. At some point I'd love to go on side quest/adventures with marchcrow's Gen:Hex, but we'll see what happens!

To start things off I'll introduce my character!

Background / Synopsis: After working for a publisher in Canterlot and having a terrible experience with a rude boss and restricted creative freedom, Inky Dew decided to move away to Ponyville where she could try her hoofs at writing and self publishing on her own.

Over the Mountain Questions Summary:

Why is Inky Dew in Ponyville?: To be on her own away from her old boss and the city, and to write with creative freedom.

What is her talent?: Storytelling

What is her secret?: Used to write Daring Dew fanfiction with tons of spelling errors !!

What is her calling?: To make new friends!

Also to Note: Since I'll be using ponys instead of the humans/spirits, I'm going to generate them on the fly (while keeping the 20 character limit of a 1d20 of course).

For example, I might just keep asking questions that pop in my head like, "Does this pony character have a music cutie mark?" If it says no, I'll keep rolling with other questions. Or, I'll write a number list of cutie mark / personality ideas and roll that way. Whatever I'm feeling I think, really!

I play solo TTRPGs and write the result: Alone Among the Stars

Hi Mom. I hope you are doing well and the money i’m sending you is coming in. By the time this letter arrives i may be very very far away. I gotta admit that writing is becoming more and more difficult every delivery i take on, i’d love to be there with you and dad but if quit i doubt Ouranos Express will keep paying for your meds. I don’t know, sending you these and hoping a word from home will find me all the way across the galaxy was quite tiring at first, i didn’t really think it’d be something i’d look forward, i mainly started writing these letters at first because of compnay policy.

Something weird happened at work today. I left the docks very early and took off towards Groombridge 34 A weirdly enough. The ship’s Galacitc Positioning System calculates the route so i’m often surprised when it takes me past the Milky Way or in some other weird direction, it also does most of the flying so i try to keep myself busy between deliveries by trying to guess what’s in the packages  (or by writing letters like this one!). Today i was carrying twenty short orange cilinders with something on the side written in a foreign language, i think it could be martian though i cant tell at all.

Anyways i was getting a bit bored so i took a nap and when i woke up GPS was offline and my ship was floating just in front of a seemingly deserted planet. I figured that if i was going to Groombridge i’d be getting some meteorite mine owner’s his favorite orange cylinders but i went right past every settlement. I decided dive in and fly around, see if there really was something down there or if my GPS had malfunctioned. The atmosphere was breathable wich is always good and the planet’s flora seemed to be carbon based as well so it wouldn’t be a stretch to think there could be a village or something down there.

Maybe an hour in my GPS lead me to a huge mountain chain covered in blue trees, at the top of which a tower’s ruins cut through the lush vegetation. After landing i set off towards it with the package in tow and began to climb the mountain following the route with my Ouranos issued spacesuit’s visor.

The planet’s gravitational pull was maybe half of earth’s so the hiking itself wasn’t very hard but trying to not get distracted by the vegetation was. Vines would twist up and down all around the huge trees whose roots sprouted out of the ground weaving patterns in the soil. I even found some strange flowers that as they were swept down by a stream they glided a bit, their petals helping them float in the air and release their pollen (don’t worry mom i took my allergy medication).

When i reached the top i sat down at the base of the tower. It’s bricks seemed to be made from the same material as the mountain and when the light hit them the whole structure shimmered vividly. I put the package i’d been carrying besides me and decided to give my knees some time to rest before i climbed down and complained to HQ for having made me climb for nothing. At that point however i heard an old man shout at me from the top of the ruin in a strangely familiar canadian accent: -Hey are you from Ouranos Express?

The guy turned out to be the owner of the pancake place you used to take us after school sometimes (not Big Mike’s, Charlie’s), and we had a lovely conversation, he laughed when i asked what he was doing there wich was a bit weird but apart from that he was pretty cool. He had been living in that planet for a couple of years and he showed me around a bit, he even gave me a shimmering brick as a souvenir 

It’s just nice to see something from home once in a while. I’ll keep writing to you and dad and i hope the next time i hear from you you’re all doing well and you can tell me all about it. I’ll see you later

When I was finally able to link a heist game idea together with the Carta SRD I had a moment of joy. A breakthrough!

TL;DR 🥵🤬🌷🧭😖 The Contract - Scene 15 (A #fouragainstdarkness Campaign) In Scene 14, our triad of travelers tried to sleep, planning to leave camp in the morning with or without Kato, who had been gone since that morning. During Omari's watch, a racket of banshees ambushed Leron and Kaverell, immobilizing them where they woke. The wicked fangs of Ogre-Bite were ineffective against the gaseous ghosts, but the enraged ogre managed to swing his  mace with enough force to blow away two banshees, freeing Kaverell. The assassin hastily dispatched the third banshee to rescue Leron. His shot pierced an essential element of the banshee, and the bolt adopted some of her properties. They chose not to wait for morning and continued their trek into the swamp in the pre-dawn hours.
