#solmare really messed up with they game

I knew I'd be disappointed with the last lessons, but still...

I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED. Like, Solmare, wtf??? You really messed up the ending of OM NB.

Not only did we get no answers to our questions, BUT THE SECONDARY CHARACTERS WEREN'T EVEN GIVEN A CHANCE.

Why was it possible to choose only one of the brothers to help? Maybe I wanted Solomon to help MC, which is quite logical. I'm disappointed that secondary characters were not considered as an option at all.

As usual, they came up with an interesting idea and didn't implement it properly. It took me a while to realize that they had solved the problem with the moon. Like, they flew up, cast a spell, and that's it, is the problem solved?? It feels like they just wanted to finish the OM as soon as possible.

I just hope that they will give us the answers somehow. OM can't end like this. We still don't know many things.

And by the way, I haven't forgotten my promise, Solmare. Michael and Simeon's correspondence alone is not enough for me.

What annoys me the most in this whole mess is, they shut down(or stop updating) their previous games (assuming) because of obey me, as a player from the first day OM! Release, i think other games have a way better writing, and most importantly, they have romance/romantic scene(lol).

I really don't want to feel like this, because when OM! Released, i was like wow, the UI, playstyle, all different and more polished, and more importantly they are voice! But after one after another previous games got shut down (assuming because they want to focus on OM!) it makes me angry ngl.

Sorry, I went to bed last night and it kind of feels like a weird fever dream. I wasn't 100% actually this happened until I double-checked Twitter. lol

The transition from OG to NB caught me by surprise, but I'm less surprised that the new NB app and story hasn't worked out the way Solmare hoped. I'm just grateful we had some warning, not that it does the player base any good with how sudden it is.

It feels like the community was trying to convey what it hoped to see from Obey Me in the future, and Solmare decided stopping the story and going in a new direction (whatever the fuck that means) is easier than *checks notes* writing a coherent story with more romantic elements.

I'm not sure what their plans are now. I'm not really a fan of the 3d models so more concerts wouldn't tempt me, but maybe more seasons of the anime? I like collecting merch and books when I can too, but international shipping can be a bit cost prohibitive. Some of the music is okay even if I’m not a fan of the remixes. I'm excited for the full version of Waiting Kiss but The Seven Rulers song was a bit. Well. It's giving very OP theme for a magical girl anime vibes. That or something from The Care Bears.

I dunno. This is just really strange. lol But it's almost freeing in a way? I can shrug off NB as an AU and go back to writing things based on the OG lore, and flesh out my world building and OCs and not have to worry about future updates retconning or adding things that completely mess it all up.

I like to think that this could be read as "this is just the beginning of the happiness!" It's okay I know I'm delusional.

I think this is a particularly angsty situation for Solomon in particular. It's been discussed how he's the lonely one, how he's spent most of his life alone, and then found companionship in MC. It's part of what makes MC's eventual death so tragic, too. Assuming they don't live forever of course.

BUT in my mind, that is what happens. MC lives forever or at the very least, MC doesn't ever actually leave until they die of natural causes. And I think Solomon would choose to have loved them than to never know them at all.

I still haven't read the last lessons. So I don't know how they wrapped up the end of the story. But would MC actually leave everybody? I think it depends on the MC.

So in my mind, you could very well choose to stay with Solomon for the rest of your life. Even if that's not what happened in canon. I have long since decided that canon can get fucked because we could make it so much better.

And you would never actually need to leave him at all.

If you're thinking about it in context of fourth wall sort of stuff, I still think you wouldn't have to say goodbye.

Wouldn't it be funny if Solomon was behind the game to begin with? He named the company after himself, but realized he had to change it slightly. Thus we get Solmare lol. He still had to pretend it was a real thing, so he hired a whole bunch of people to run everything and write the story and so on and so on. Then when the parent company inevitably gave the game the ax, he's like ah well it was fun but now I have an MC to find.

And it turns out the Devildom and all the characters are real because Solomon based everything off of his real actual experience. It was going great until some of the writers got a little crazy and messed up the story, but he forgives them because it was just something he was doing for fun anyway.

He finds you, sweeps you off your feet, and transports you to the Devildom because surprise it was all true all along~

I was washing dishes and had a thought.

Spoilers past here if you haven't completed the story, so I'm only warning you once!

A lot of exchange Students who use Twitter are worried that the OG Obey Me game isn't going to be getting as much love once Nightbringer comes around.

After 3 or 4 years, you don't get any more birthday or anniversary calls, and we've been at Lesson 80 for darn near almost a year

They also had a line in the newspaper picture about making OM! Nightbringer even bigger and better than the OG, but that it's not stopping (I also noted that they didn't say the story would continue, just that it wasn't going anywhere. Their other apps didn't for a really long time)

What if they're gonna retcon everything in the OG?

The OM devs aren't shy about slyly retconning stuff to make the story work. Lucifer and Michael have changed what angels they are, Simeon has as well, and before the story was that when the boys fell--they met Diavolo's father. He gauged their power, gave them their order and titles.

Yet now, their sins have always been a part of them, but heavily suppressed in their angel days, and the devil king was already asleep underground when they came. According to Nightbringer, RAD didn't exist before the boys fell. But according to the Glory Days card for Lucifer, it did, and he went there on a tour once.

I suppose it could be explained away in, he didn't want to change out of his angel garb because he still considered himself an angel after the fall, being in denial, but then again, in the Lilith flashback he was aware and sad about it.

ANYWAY!

It really wouldn't surprise me if they decided to change MORE in Nightbringer to help the story fit. Or explained the changes that subtly happened like that in the OG was due to the events in Nightbringer.

What if they update from 81-90 or 100 and the last lesson is what sends MC to the past and erases their memory? Lesson 80 ends with MC talking to Solomon and him telling them to tell everyone hi for him before they zip back to the Devildom at will, having mastered teleport magic.

It sorta feels like a "and on and on it goes until the end of time" ending that some anime and manga take, leaving it up to interpretation, or it feels the start of a new season.

80-100 could be the events that lead up to MC meeting the mysterious figure that we see in some of the ads holding the clock. It'll also give us time to romance/get to know the new side characters: Mephistopheles, Raphel and Thirteen before the end.

I could easily see lesson 100 ending with "the story continues? In Obey Me! Nightbringer!"

Then we pick back up in OM! Nightbringer as both a sequel and a prequel and it totally changes everything?

A way to experience that first time feeling, but with characters we know and love because our interfering messes with the ending.

Kinda weird though, as OM was the first SWD game that broke away from their typical set up to Otome games.

I said before but I've played a LOT of Solmare games, and they usually went like this: a nondescript-ish (usually a thin, light skinned, brown haired) female would be thrown into a new situation, be helpless and depend on 1 of X amount of guys to defend her.

Depending on her choice, she could get a good, neutral or bad ending to THAT person's story. And each boys involvement with the story changed the ending of the overall tale. No ending was just a like.

I wonder if they're going back to that old model, in that we'll pair off with a boy and go down his route and experience the story in different ways, and getting different endings.

Plus it'll really feel weird with the rhythm gaming aspect, as far as I know, it's a first for Solmare. The rest of the games depended on chance, buying items and leveling up a doll version of your girl.

It used to really annoy me, because you'd need something like gems to get an ultra romantic version of a section of story disguised as a "choice". In it, you'd get super romantic lines and a beautiful picture to go with it, but without outright buying the needed gems or whatever they wanted, you had a snowballs chance in hell of seeing it.

The whole Unity drama can really only be described as 'How to completely fuck yourself and everyone else over' but in a actually comedic how stupid this was kind of way.

Like let me explain.

Warning long post but for a good reason.

Unity practically runs (or soon to be ran) the mobile gaming spare. There's a reason for this as Unreal's mobile port kinda sucks(it's gotten somewhat better recently) and alternatives like Flash are dead.

So mobile games like

All Mihoyo/Hoyoverse games so far (Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact and Honkai Star Rail, Tears of Themis)

Disney's Twisted Wonderland

Yu GI Oh master duel

Marvel Clash

Pokemon Go

Among Us

Fate: Grand Order

Ensemble stars/Ensemble stars music

Obey Me/ Obey Me Nightbringer

Path to Nowhere

Arknights

Dislyte

Temple Run/Temple Run 2

Subway Surfers

And many many more will be affected by this change. In fact, it might just be easier to list the popular mobile games that don't use Unity.

Now from a purely capitalist point of view(and ignore common sense), every game I just listed there is a potential million dollars or more. A literal infinite money generator especially gacha games that thrive off of a install and uninstall loop.

But, there's no way they could actually enforce any of this.

Mihoyo/Hoyoverse and most Chinese gachas use a version of Unity that's only available in China and is basically it's own thing. Meaning that it's unlikely that the changes are actually going to affect them. But they did say the changes apply to 'emerging markets' so don't hold your breath.

Games like Twisted Wonderland, Fate: Grand Order, Pokemon Go etc. are licensed games aka they'll be messing with the likes of The Pokemon Company, Komani and Disney. Who would probably take them to court or shut down if it was barely profitable enough before than have less profit.

Game companies(mostly female focused ones) like Happy Elements(Ensemble stars) and Solmare(Obey Me) actually make more money from merch and irl events than the actual games.

Which leaves the rest. Who may not be able to get by. Like the creators of Among Us who would likely go bankrupt if this change were to happen. Or older games like Temple Run, Angry Birds and Subway Surfers who no longer make that sort of revanue anymore.

The problem is 'the rest' is basically 90% of the users of Unity on mobile and a giant chunk of the mobile gaming market.

So instead of an infinite money generator, most devs are going to shut down and either remake on a different engine or shut down completely.

The minority that can pay either might not have to (Chinese gachas) or are unlikely to/litigation bait.

So not only did Unity shoot themselves in the head but they somehow managed to put the billion dollar mobile gaming market in jeopardy.

And this is just mobile gaming, this doesn't include PC, Xbox, PS4 games. Unity is pretty easy to learn and was cheaper than Unreal for a beginner/ Indie dev so they basically dominated that market as well.

And the same problem persists there as well. Those who could afford it aren't going to pay and the majority of users can't actually pay the fee and are going to delist or switch. So the entire market ends up in jeopardy because it's at risk of losing a giant chunk of it.

All for an infinite money generator that anyone with a brain or at the very least had a basic understanding of the gaming market could see wasn't going to work.

The shortsightedness to even think this was going to work is astounding. The stupidity is astronomical.

Honestly, with the coming of Nightbringer, I just got real tired of how the devs handled their lore (convoluted af and many canon lore bits go against other lore bits or just don't make sense at all) and also the way they handled the games in general. Now, with Solmare's most recent post, I'm not certain where the future of this franchise is going.

Other than that, the fandom has actually pushed me away the most with ridiculous dramas over the years, and now I see blogs I've followed for almost half a decade are gatekeeping the game based on whether or not a user is LGBT or not.

This game was intended to be inclusive of ANYBODY who wanted to play and enjoy. That means straight people too. It's so sad to see how the fandom is when a couple of years ago, when I was active in it, everyone was so supportive of each other. It's totally disheartening, and I've completely lost the will to want to produce content and interact with the fandom anymore.

For those reasons, it's extremely unlikely I'll be producing any more public content for OM, even though the characters still hold a deep place in my heart. Perhaps one day I'll pick up The Mess of Our Hearts, but I'm not guaranteeing it even to myself. These characters will always be a part of me, and I'll always have very fond memories, but I do not wish to be part of the fandom anymore.

That said, thank you for your support. Even though I'm no longer in the fandom, the support and love I recieved back then is a huge reason I keep posting content here at all.

Okay, here is my theory about Liz Hart (WH!MC)

So we know that her parents passed away from an epidemic that struck her home village, and even though it depends when they died it's still sad.

First:

In earlier routes, she said they died three years ago, which gave me two possibilities;

1. Her magic came in late, and they didn't get the chance to teach her to properly control it.

2. Liz used to have a grasp of her abilities, but the epidemic and the passing of her parents messed her up deeply that she was not able to use magic properly.

And mind you, her and her parents were the only wizards in the village and she didn't have any other immediate or distant family to take her in.

Second:

In later routes, it's said that they passed away when she was still a small child, which means they never got to teach her much.

Now, as for taking to animals. That is canonically rear for wizards to have that ability.

And why is she only able to cast healing spells on animals? Because that was the first spell she learned from them, maybe learning that spell brought her a happy memory of when they were alive and there was an injured animal involved.

It's either a coping mechanism of sort or the only spell she mastered.

Again, she lived in a small village that took care of her when her parents passed away, and unlike most other characters, she didn't have many privileges, and with her abilities, she became the villages vet before going to the academy

But that's just my theory.

But we'll never know since Solmare never really touched up to some of their main characters and ditched all of them for Obey Me.

It's frustrating as hell, but I'll live with it.

Rant about those demons I don't shut up about because so many of you probably don't know what I'm talking about, and this is the only topic keeping me alive right now. (Massive spoilers, if you care.)

Obey Me! is a game/anime/manga franchise that began as just one mobile dating sim made by a developing company that made nothing else of value prior. It's based loosely on a bit of everything, most notably (from the simple fact of the characters' names) the Bible.

The first game carries the sub-title One Master to Rule Them All (OMTRTA). The second game carries the sub-title Nightbringer (NB) and is responsible for all those character songs I like so much. The anime is a train wreck available on sites like Crunchyroll with premium, or sites like Bilibili for free with a VPN (I use Hide Me VPN because it's free and I'm broke). The manga is available digitally on Manga Hub, but I'm too lacking of money to be able to read it past chapter one.

The series is full of death and pseudo-incest (the brothers are distantly "related" to the main character and regularly flirt with each other - granted, neither the boys nor their sister are biologically related to any of the others). It also obviously has some religious theming and other topics some people may be uncomfortable with. Also, the MC is a sheep (plushie?). And Luke.

And now the brothers (only characters that matter). (Long.)

Lucifer is the first-born. He's the Avatar of Pride. He's often described as cruel and sadistic, completely reasonably, but he cares about his brothers more than he's willing to admit. His color is blue, and his symbolic animals are the peacock and the bat. He's also the devs' favorite, so he's the only one still getting anything resembling an actual birthday event (fuck you, Solmare).

Mammon is the second-born, the Avatar of Greed, and a fucking masochist. He's the most troublesome of the seven, but also Lucifer's favorite. He's a broke gambling addict with a heart of gold, though he'd never admit the second part. He acts full of himself, but he's actually really insecure. His color is yellow, and his symbolic animals are the crow and the cat.

Leviathan is the third-born, the Avatar of Envy, and also a total masochist (though not as much as his brother). He's depressed and socially anxious, and he's commonly headcanoned as being autistic and trans. He stays in his room when possible, even being granted online classes. He's really into video games, anime, and one specific novel series that happens to have been based on his family. He's had multiple pets named Henry (after the protagonist of said novel series), the most recent being a goldfish. His color is orange, and his symbolic animal is the snake.

Satan is the fourth-born and the Avatar of Wrath. He's a bookworm with anger issues and a cat obsession who's also often viewed as autistic. He's less averse to social interaction than Levi, having several friends that he actually talks to. His room is messy and full of books of every topic (especially cats). He doesn't know how to wear a jacket properly despite being the smart one, but that's fine. He hates lucifer, feeling like people only view him as a clone of the eldest and, tries to be as different from him as possible because of this. He was born from Lucifer's wrath during the fall, causing him to feel like an outcast among his brothers. He hates being overlooked, so he wants to be so smart that people can't ignore him. His color is green, and his symbolic animals are the unicorn and the wolf.

Asmodeus is the fifth-born and the Avatar of Lust. He's the resident mess of queercoding, but we love him anyway (none of the brothers are cishet regardless, so it doesn't matter). He's the source of most of the sexual and pseudo-incestuous shit (basically saying he wants to fuck Lucifer on multiple occasions, for one) due to the simple fact of his sin. He acts like he's better than thou, but he secretly hates himself and can't stand the idea of not being pretty because he feels like people won't like him if he doesn't look good. He's loud and horny and annoying, and I love him. He's often headcanoned as being genderfluid, pansexual, and polyamorous and I love that for him. His color is pink, and his symbolic animals are the scorpion and the rabbit.

Beelzebub is the sixth-born and the Avatar of Gluttony. Him and Belphegor are technically twins (were willed into existence at the same time). He's a buff-ass teddybear with the purest heart of any man ever and he's so fucking precious and I love him and I wanna hug him, is that too much to ask. He's the least problematic of all of them, granted he also acts really fucking gay with his kinda-twin. He works out about as much as he eats because of course he does, how else could he look like that. He's often headcanoned as being trans or having an eating disorder or both (for obvious reasons). His color is red, and his symbolic animal is the fly.

Belphegor is the seventh-born (for purposes of numbers) and the Avatar of Sloth. He's the obligatory yandere character (even though they all are), though that was going to be Levi originally. He fucking kills you in lesson 16, while his brothers only try or threaten to. He hates Lucifer (was locked in the attic by him and is great at holding grudges), humans (blames them for the death of his sister 5,000+ years ago), and Lord Diavolo (friends with Luci and likes humans). He's also commonly headcanoned as trans, and those of us with chronic fatigue are very liable to project onto him with violence. He likes sushi (ew) and loves you and his twin more than anything. He's manipulative and cunning and way too adorable, and he lies to your face to get you to make pacts with his brothers. His color is purple, and his symbolic animals are the cow and the bear.

My typical way of experiencing... well, everything, if we're honest... is to avoid having any expectations. It's something I learned how to do, and I stick to it pretty well. While it was originally mostly a bulwark against a chaotic childhood making my lil autistic ass have to figure out how to do without any sort of routine, the most profound effect it has these days is drastically increasing my enjoyment of media.

The only time I find myself disappointed with something, in that sense, is when they do something that it literally would have been better to have done nothing at all. Solmare has managed to do this a few times.

And YET. Here I am. I think so much about Obey Me that I can't help but speculate, and I've gone and got my hopes up because I've realized that there are some really fucking cool things they could do. I'm feverish, so this might get long... gunna put it under a cut.

So. I started playing the OG Obey Me about a year and a half ago. The fourth season either came out right as I started, or was already out. I never was really effected by the wait time for the next season drop, and the limbo that left fans in, so I get that my perspective is different than most.

But my perspective is this: they had a cool story with some neat concepts, both story-wise meta game stuff, but the game play was so ass it could barely be called game play, the balancing is insane (I've scraped through the main story using countless glow sticks but most of the extra lessons are still beyond me will full teams of lvl 100+ cards), and they'd written themselves into several corners they didn't know how to get out of.

Then they released Nightbringer. It has it's issues, sure, but as a game? I enjoy it about 1000% more than OG. The story is one of being thrown back in time and trying to find your way home, which we managed last chapter. On April 13th, the game will have been out one year. I think that's when they'll drop the next season but...

It would be so wildly cool if they also merged the games. The MC's just returned to the timeline from OG, supposedly, though hadn't Solomon suggested that... y'know, everyone had noticed you disappearing? OG is at it's end of life. It's pretty clear they're going to shut it down at some point. I want, so so so badly, for 4/13 to hit, a massive update to be available, and the entirety of OG's story line to have been ported to NB. I want the accounts to merge together. I want to have all my cards and I want there to be a new Nightmare chapter with all the old cards from OG and I want the plot moving forward to be a mess of scrambled timeline shit, trying to figure out who NB is, and stress. From a game dev perspective, they have the chance to do something so so wildly awesome and I KNOW they won't. I KNOW I'm going to be disappointed. But FUCK it'd be cool...

I have so many ideas on how it could be done... and I'm well aware it'd probably piss a lot of people off still, but people are pissed off anyways. I think it'd make more people happy than it did angry.

And I know some people don't like Ruri-tunes but like... at least it's a game. I'm no huge fan of rhythm games tbh. I honestly hated them before Ruri-tunes, but I disliked the dance battles so much that I've started liking rhythm games more just because it was suck an upgrade imo

Oh wow, Asmo was almost one demon I really liked in OM but I never got to to into reading/seeing about him and what he does

He reminds me a lot of Kou not only look but personally from diabolik lovers, and just from that alone I can tell he does deeply care for his brothers and I find that sweet he’s just a misunderstood little baby

for me, asmo really toes the line of best friend and boyfriend, but he’s on the side of characters i like more than others (he and satan are on pretty much the same level; satan might be higher if the devs didn’t mess up so badly)

i’ve never played diabolik lovers so i can’t speak on how they compare but i highly recommend getting into asmo’s story/ chats/ calls because i think he’s a fascinating character that goes so much deeper than what’s usually shown (i guess that goes for every character… solmare could make a solo game for all of them tbh /lh)

They plagiarised muse dash, they make the game visually horrendous for people with disabilities, 3D cheap, ugly and useless, the gameplay is not adapted to mobile and they do not give people space to learn how to play rhythm games, the levels are all already expecting you to have experience with it. Solmare thought they could ride Twisted Wonderland rhythm game style hype, but TW has good writing, while Obey Me's keeps declining (the bros are even more annoying now).

the 3D is so fugly I can't even, I just cringe so bad and the clipping is... like seriously, watch at least one more YT tutorial, Solmare...

I suppose that running around the map with a smoothly done playable character in other mobile gachas spoiled me but this 3D is just... so plastic. Their faces look like printed on a lego figurine or like a blurred jpg in that FabSnap thing, it's just... creepy.

And those huge feet that honestly decrown even the most ridiculous yaoi hands.

And poor Levi got kidnapped by aliens and replaced by some cheap imposter, where is my arrogant weeb?

The shake during boss encounters is really nasty for my eyes and my hands hurt after a few stages, ugh. If I'm going to play something worsens my already messed up hands, I'd rather just hack and slash some evil robots in PGR. And PGR has the advantage that I don't cringe when looking at my favourite character's 3D model.

I mean...technically you don't /have/ to choose between Mammon and Thirteen. I know my MC definitely wouldn't. Heck, she probably wouldn't choose between any of them; she's got more than enough love to go around! (I'm aro/ace so I can't really use myself as an example)

I play OM! like it's a story I'm reading, the characters (in this case MC) needs to be consistent or at least make choices that isn't out of character (with a margin for choices that may differ due to their character development)

If it was up to me, then yeah I wouldn't make a choice (or I might even lean towards thirteen)

But to fit it with my MC's personality then....yeah

And like I've said before, my MC is basically just canon-general MC with a name (because I'm too lazy to make a whole new character okay lemme piggyback on the character solmare already gave shhhhhhh) but general MC gets to be more free? flimsy? open-ended? to allow for players to make their own choices/personality/etc and so in those areas I need to make my MC more stable to give them a bit of a characterisation beyond general MC and now they're stuck in that box of characterisation and I need characterisation to be consistent or I'll get antsy which would eventually end up with me losing interest

Not only that, but I need it to make sense for the LIs too? Like:

OM's canon/general MC does seem to have a bias towards Mammon which gets called out by the other characters on occassion, but they're also very openly affectionate with the people they care about so I do think they'd be more than okay with dating more than one person, but I think the effectiveness and stability of those relationships would depend on the LI they're dating as well?

Like Mammon might be too possessive and insecure to be in a healthy poly relationship, while Levi would be too insecure and envious.

While Belphie has already said he doesn't mind sharing MC as long as it's with Beel

And I feel like with Asmo a poly and/or open relationship is to be expected? (Isn't Asmo kinda canonically sleeping with Solomon? There was that whole hickey thing and all the more telling -> Solomon was the only person we've seen Asmo get nervous around/want to desperately impress)

Also a Diavolo who was dating MC would jump at the chance to also date Lucifer

Plus, whether you see it as romantic or platonic Simeon & Barbatos seem to be co-parenting & more or less raising a kid together, so at least to some extent they'd be a bit of a package deal

Getting any of this wrong for me (messing the characterisation) would be like an itch under your skin that you can't get rid of until eventually I decide the best thing I can do is cut my losses and run

the thing abt one of the most <3 solomon scenes being copied word for word for diavolo is just so. it's not even insane or unbelievable to me it's just extremely irritating like these are genuinely such wonderful characters in a wonderful setting how are the devs messing up on the writing bit THIS bad.

idm the fan service because like... otome game & all that but also that doesn't mean that they can't have a compelling plot and good writing to go with it????? especially in events like clearly they keep trying to include every single character and it just. doesn't work. and there are just SO MANY events too like if you're playing for non-plot purposes it's still so goddamn annoying because let the players breathe 😭

idk i just wish the writing quality in the game would improve at the very least. like it's fine if it's 'cringe' or wtv at least come up with original and decent plots instead of just repeating the same things over and over again yk?

oh my GOSH raaz solomon is the last person the obm devs haven't messed up (+ the new side characters, specifically mephistopheles) and i'm so terrified of the obm devs ruining him like they did everyone else...

in this new steampunk event, the locked route is SPECIFICALLY being catered for whales. unlocking the chapters was easy to build up to, but now you need 15 keys off the bat to continue, and i feel like it's heavily reflective of how indifferent the devs are towards actually doing their own characters justice. everything is meant to serve their whales, bring in more revenue, and sit comfortably even when they know they're angering their own fanbase by rubbing salt in the wound (i.e. making satan self-aware of his cat obsession, solomon outwardly expressing discomfort for the erasure of his humanity from other characters).

the devs are growing to completely disregard their own story, slapping together some fanservice in the main story when most of their fanbase can't even reach that point. why not serve your veterans & those who financially support you with consistent & cathartic story arcs? why not balance everyone, everything?

so i share your frustrations: obey me has been spiraling down in quality for a long time. i think that the last time i've been satisfied with the story was during season 2, when the fandom wasn't as big, and people were invested in figuring out what'll happen next because everything was cleverly panning out to a huge event: the dagger scene with lucifer. people didn't know what to make of simeon's play, and i remember when people theorized that the play would parallel a huge event near the end of the season... and we were right! and so many people were genuinely happy with the story being able to keep their interest and keep them on their toes.

now, there is a severe lack of anything reminiscent of holding anyone's interest, even the veterans, even me. i would woefully log onto tumblr as season 4's lessons rolled around every week, and would share everyone else's disappointment when we gradually accepted the fact that the story was easy to predict given how lazy the devs had become. i want them to take their time so badly, to give us quality over quantity, but with solmare now becoming so big with their new cash cow, obey me, compared to their previous cliche otome games, i think they've allowed the success to get to them.

thoughts of “it's an awful game, i hope no one plays it” and “it's a nice game to play, i can't wait to share my thoughts” are two things that can coexist, albeit shaped into something more along the lines of “it's a horrendous game that i can bond over with friends” once you find yourself being sucked deeper into it.

i don't think i'll stop playing anytime soon, because as i told someone in the past, “[it has] flavor in all of its terrible, atrocious glory”. i'm able to use concepts & ideas that the story gives me and, in my eyes, i get to make it better. i get to share my thoughts with like-minded people like you, and everyone jumps on the inspiration bandwagon. people bond over the same failures that makes us frustrated, and that's one of the few reasons i have any semblance of gratitude for obey me.

I enjoy rhythm games and to me its more engaging than just frantically tapping the screen, hoping your card is strong enough to beat the little d's so gameplay wise I like it more than One Master.

But like, the story really doesn't feel as intense or dramatic as it was promised, the brothers get maybe a chapter each (if that) about their issues regarding falling and are resolved by the MC after that and then its back as if nothing changed, so I'm still wary of the actual story aspect. The last times they dealt with time travel it was a mess and I don't trust them to be better now. (Solomon insisting you don't mess the timeline up less you accidentally abort yourself but also both you and him just.....messing with things without any thought or care is nuts, this needs to be talked about solmare). Bonus points when it aeels like, if Solomon is right, even if the MC does go back it won't be to their tineline with their demons so I admit, what interest I had in the story dropped.

Obey Me Character Thoughts

Just my thoughts about the Obey Me characters. (as a beginner player)

Backstory: I discovered Obey Me through a friend who plays and posts about it, and discovered it was made by the same company as my previous otome game, Love Tangle, so I gave it a shot and got pretty (ok, extremely) hooked. I am currently Level 83 on Lesson 31 of the main story, but because I like spoilers I pretty much have a good idea of what happens up to Lesson 60. I've also done a lot of the LD side lessons. These are just my current takes on the characters, it may change in the future! (Pictures are some of my favorite cards, collected or not, all artwork belongs to NTT Solmare of course)

**Lucifer **

Tbh, at first I thought he was going to be my #1. But he can be ... a little too uptight for my liking. A little too arrogant (though I guess that's the point of his avatar). His Dad personality does make me laugh though when it comes out. The moments where he's soft and sweet make me swoon, but I couldn't see myself dating someone like him IRL. I’d be too afraid of messing up all the time. Even though he's handsome as fuck. And super sexy. He's definitely my #2, but I just don't think I could choose him over my #1 if it ever came down to it. I do like reading head cannons and NSFW fics of him though. I’m not big on the “Luci” nickname either, but I’m not sure what I’d call him.

Mammon

Mammon kind of annoys me tbh. 😂 He's cute, in a puppy-dog tsundere way, and I think he'd be an awesome friend. But someone like him would get on my nerves IRL after a while, and I don't think I'd be able to put up with it. His sweet side is incredibly cute, but I could only ever see him as a friend, or maybe a FWB, but never as anything serious. But I think overall he means well, and really cares for (loves) the MC. I saw the nickname “Mamoney” once and I love it for him.

Leviathan

Levi is another one I originally thought would be in my top 3, based on his character design (he's super cute) when I first saw the game, but his personality makes me feel more protective and wanting to uplift him and boost his confidence rather than be in love with him. I want to be his friend, and support him. I do like some of the same stuff as he does, and I've dated hard-core Otakus IRL before. But any affection I'd give him would probably be platonic. I think I'd enjoy teasing him as well. Like everyone else, I just call him “Levi”.

Satan

My number 1, my husband, my dream guy, my ideal character ... it's so hard not to gush about him. He's everything I'd want in a guy: intelligent, well-read, has a sense of humor and a mischievous streak, adores cats as much as I do, can be super sweet, is probably amazing in bed ... even the anger management issues aren't a big deal to me, as I've dealt with that before. He's just perfect to me, and I eat up all NSFW fiction of him (and any other head cannons and fics and artwork tbh). I guess I'm just a _little _obsessed. I’m not big on the nicknames I’ve seen given to him (Tannie, TanTan, Catan, etc) so I call him “Sachan”. 

Asmodeus

I didn't like Asmo at first, but he grew on me. I couldn't see myself with him in a romantic relationship, but I can imagine he is the type of guy I'd want to be best friends with. Shopping, gossiping, makeovers - who doesn't want that in their life? (OK, a lot of people aren't into that stuff but I don't mind it) And he's incredibly caring and sweet towards the MC. And like everyone else, he’s just “Asmo” to me.

Beelzebub

I LOVE, love this boy. He's so, so sweet. He's my #3. He's not only incredibly sexy, he's adorable, cute and sweet as hell. I could imagine him making an amazing boyfriend/husband. And I also like food, maybe not as much as he does but I'd love visiting restaurants and eating with him. And he's protective and would be so comforting and safe. I love the shortening of his name to “Beel” as well.

Belphegor

Belphie's a brat and I kind of love it, tbh. He cracks me up and makes me smile with his dialogues, but I definitely view him as a younger brother type (as the baby of the family.) Any affection also would be strictly platonic as well, but I'd enjoy cuddling and hanging out with him. I don't even mind he tried to kill the MC, because what he went through was understandable. Like everyone else, he’s just “Belphie” to me.

Diavolo

Diavolo is a treasure. One moment he's sexy and romantic, another moment adorably sweet. He's so positive and optimistic. I can't really see me in a relationship with the Prince though, no matter how adorable I think he is. And I think he'd support whatever choice my MC makes (at least I hope he would). I DO think there’s a major storm brewing between him and Lucifer in the future though, and it makes me excited, but also sad at the same time. I love “Dia” for him, it’s cute and casual.

Barbatos

I don't have much of a connection with Barbatos yet, so I don't know much about him. He seems like he's kind, dependable, and scary when upset. I'd like to get to know him better, but I couldn't imagine having any sort of romantic feelings towards him. Does he have any nicknames? I’m not sure.

Solomon

Everyone says Solomon is an ass, and he kind of is. But I find that endearing. I guess I just think being a bit of an asshole can be funny at times (especially in the game, he cracks me up) and even though he seems kind of shady, you can tell he genuinely cares for the MC, and is even a little in love. He's like the background guy friend that is secretly in love with you but doesn't have much of a chance. I really want to get to know more about him. No nickname.

Simeon

He's a sweetheart. And definitely not as angelic as he originally appeared to be. He's another I feel secretly loves MC, but another I'd be strictly platonic with. But I still need to get to know him a little better, and I definitely like him a lot more than I thought I would. No nickname, unless you use his pen name.

Luke

Is baby. He's like a tiny little brother that is there for fun, and I want to protect and indulge him and basically treat him like my own kiddo. It still feels weird to have a character like him in an otome game, but he's definitely adorable.

My MC

Is of course, based off me. She's female, and she represents the better part of me when I'm making my choices, or the parts of me I wish I could be. Her name is Kana. I've always had my MCs/OCs kind of based off characters like Aoi Sakuraba from Ai Yori Aoshi and Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket because IRL I strive to be like them. Sweet, kind, understanding, loving, maybe a little naive. Sees the best in people, but not afraid to say what she thinks or get involved in other people's business because she wants to help. Maybe that's a little boring, but it's what I try to be.
