aaron 😭😭😭 taking the kiddos back to school shopping <3333

jack and your daughter for instance - you're the one who takes them clothes shopping, so aaron's in charge of the supplies. it can easily turn into a chaotic mess and therefore everyone gets into a bad mood LOL SO he makes it as orderly and organized as possible (just as he is). he doesn't want them just throwing everything and anything they see into the cart - aaron has the lists in hand, everyone ventures through the aisles, and he goes through the lists according to what aisle they're in so it's not a back and forth kind of ordeal. and it makes it sooo much more easy and quicker.

jack's well practiced - he doesn't need as much help, can read his school supply list himself and grab materials with little to no assistance from aaron, aaron just double checks to make sure jack is getting the correct art supplies, sized binder or paper, things like that. AND jack helps out his baby sister too hehe 🥹 he shows her everything 'the cool kids' have 😭 since he's experienced, after all and he wants her to be the coolest kindergartener there is <3333 baby girl sticks onto everything jack says <333 getting exactly what he describes and tossing it into the cart with no hesistation. hehe and aaron is just besides himself watching 🥹🥰💓💞 he loves them both so much <33333

aaron letting your daughter pick out a (and her first🥹) super fun backpack and lunch box 🥹 <3333333 hehe he shows her the backpack aisle and her eyes just LIGHT UP with allllll the possibilities. aaron helps her narrow it down too - to her favorite color, fav princess, super hero, movie or anything she happens to love <3 he also explains to her to pick out one that has a lot of space, maybe one that has a matching lunchbox that snaps to the front, one that has a lil side pocket for a water bottle. and as they're doing that, jack's also eyeing all the backpacks 👀 he finds one he LOVES, and one that's a bit more grown up because he's more grown up, he's beginning to outgrow having a themed bag - like spiderman, star wars, etc. - and opts for a plain colored one 🥲

and once the lists are complete and the hotchner fam makes their way home - hehe everyone’s showing you what they picked out aka what daddy let them get hehe <3 because the main highlights are obviously things that weren't actually on the lists 😭 the set of markers that have more colors than the usual for example, jack's thrilled he got mechanical pencils rather than the wooden ones, folders than have designs instead of a solid color.

and your daughter 🥹🥹🥹 is SO excited about her new backpack <3333 hehe it's absolutely ginormous on her since she's a tiny little thing - it swallowing her makes aaron want to cry LOL - how is his little baby going off to kindergarten??! 😭😭😭 and she literally refuses to take it off too, she wears it around the house and you and aaron practically have to rip it off her to make sure it remains new for at least the first week of school 😭

when jack shows you his new backpack, you give aaron a look like - jack’s backpack from last year was perfectly fine and useable, he only needed a new lunch box BUT he just offers you a shrug LOL. it's hard for him to stay no to the kiddos, and he didn't want jack to feel left out since baby girl hotchner got a new one, AND he wants jack to feel confident returning to school so if that means getting a new backpack, then getting a new backpack it is <3 and of course once he explains the whole reason why jack got a new one, you totally understand (and it makes you a tad sad because jack is growing up 🥺😭)

aaron helps label all the supplies too <333 it's a team effort by all - aaron goes through the list again, tells the kiddos to grab something, they hand it to him, he labels, hands it off to you, and into the backpack it goes 🫵🏻 and the hotchner are allllll ready for the new school year <333 🥰

Fresno Nightcrawler Houndstooth // Fabric Design for @shapeshiftersvt and The Cryptid Collection

Remember way back a few weeks ago when I posted the Squonk poster and I said that once I'd designed the fabric to go along with it I'd start posting the fabric designs here? Well guess what! It's time!

For those who don't remember or who didn't know, I am the co-owner, site manager, and graphic designer for @shapeshiftersvt. 2024 marks our 10th anniversary and we wanted to do something big and special and new to mark the occasion and my partner, co-owner, head tailor, fashion designer, and founder, Eli, pitched a fashion line themed around cryptids. We call it The Cryptid Collection and it features six of our and the internet's favorite cryptids: The Fresno Nightcrawler, Mothman, the Jackalope, the Jersey Devil, Champ, and the Squonk.

My parts of the collection were designing the posters, and creating fabric designs for our very own, truly Shapeshifters designed chest binders and sports bras. But since we utilized Spoonflower to have those fabrics printed, they're also available through the Spoonflower marketplace for anyone to buy for their own sewing projects.

And now that all of the fabric designs are done and uploaded and proofed and listed, I, as promised, am posting them here to talk a bit more in-depth about them, the thoughts and inspirations behind them, and the design process.

Starting with the Fresno Nightcrawler.

Part of the reason I'm starting with the Fresno Nightcrawler is because this was the very first design that I finished. When we were planning out the fabrics, it was the most solid design concept I had that wasn't just adapting the poster design to fabric (mostly because ... I hadn't done the poster yet). It was the first one I really came up with, the one I was most excited about, and the one that pretty much stayed the same from concept to execution.

I love houndstooth. Which is weird to say when I don't think I've ever owned a single garment or accessory in with a houndstooth pattern? But I do, I love it. I love the teeny tiny classic version of the pattern; I love a blown-up graphic version of the pattern; I love plays and variations on it. So when I was trying to brainstorm what kind of fabric pattern I could make inspired by a creature with such a simple shape whose only colors were white and black, the idea came pretty quickly: A houndstooth. Or a Nightcrawlertooth, if you will. It was a trick, though, and a real learning experience, especially with this being my first design.

Getting a pattern to repeat smoothly is a skill unto itself. Basically you have what's called a tile, and the tile contains the part of the pattern that you want to repeat. Then, when your pattern is created, the original tile just gets essentially copy-pasted over and over so 1) you don't have to draw the whole yard of fabric, and 2)all of the repeated parts of the design are identical. But by doing it this way, you have seams you need to take into consideration. If you think of putting the pattern together, it's sort of like making a basic quilt: You start with one square (or rectangle), then attach four more squares to each side, and then just keep doing that. Each one of those seams (top, bottom, left, right) is a place where the pattern might not match up, which means when it's applied to a yard of fabric, it's not going to look like a smooth, seamless pattern.

Of course there's ways to avoid this altogether. If you're doing a simple stripe, using the line tool in your drawing software will keep your stripe a consistent thickness, and holding SHIFT while you draw it will keep the line straight. Or, even easier, you can create a pattern where the part that repeats doesn't straddle a seam; like a polkadot pattern, where the dot(s) can be centered on the tile and seams only cut through a solid background.

The trouble with a houndstooth, though, is that not only does the tile need to repeat, it's made up of repeating figures that interlock. I can't just center the white Nightcrawler on the tile and call it a day, because then the black Nightcrawler straddles the seam. On top of that, they needed to be shaped in such a way that the negative space between the white Nightcrawlers left a shape that was also recognizable as a Nightcrawler and similar enough to the white one that the pattern is mostly seamless.

I fully admit that I was not able to do this on my own. Enter: Eli. Eli is, among other things, a math nerd who enjoys an excuse to break out the graph paper. They found a tutorial online and got to graphing and shaping and, in just a couple of hours, had gotten the shapes down. I took that tile, illustrated it, cleaned up the seams (shoutout to Eli for also finding an easier way to do this than just manually copy-pasting), and voila! A Fresno Nightcrawler houndstooth.

Now, you might look at that image up there and say, "Well that's all well and good, Pents, but they're kind of blobby and the lines are wobbly and it's all a little uneven." To which I say ... yeah, that's true. It's also kind of intentional. Like, I'm not gonna sit here and claim I got the basic pattern done and wasn't exhausted. But also I could've left it and come back to it the next day to clean up the lines and shapes a bit more, make everything really smooth and even. But, like. Look at this guy.

He's just a weird kinda blobby little dude. So I left the pattern kinda weird and blobby.

Even if I'd cleaned it, it's such a blobby little shape that's so at odds with the classic houndstooth that's all straight lines and sharp angles. So I made a deliberate choice to not polish it up. To kind of lean into the kodama vibes:

I am really so so proud of and pleased with this design. It came out almost exactly how I pictured it; it was really the most true design collaboration between Eli and I; and I'm just so pleased, after a lifetime of being a houndstooth lover, to now also have designed a houndstooth.

more stuff abt lily and caroline bc i love them:

they dye their hair/wear it in different styles because otherwise they'd be almost completely identical. lily dyed her hair and then convinced caroline to do it too- they have naturally light brown hair

lily has a scar on her thigh from a fight she got into protecting caroline when they were younger

their parents are almost never around/genuinely couldn't care less. they have opposite reactions to this: lily acts out to try to get their attention and caroline excels at anything and everything to try to get them to appreciate her (it doesn't work for either of them).

lily smokes both cigarettes and weed and convinced caroline to join her a couple times, but caroline only does it incredibly rarely (like when she's stressed from a big exam). usually when they're both high it leads to them making out or more

lily was a staunch tomboy when they were younger, while caroline was always more feminine. now they're both a solid mix of the two

My Laws of Attraction f!MC: Anjali!

Still don't got a last name for her tho. I might make her related to Evie. I'll probably likely make her related to Evie. Like, maybe a sibling to Evie's mom along with my TH:M f!MC Otto. Evie's mom and Aunties being a security/bodyguard, a lawyer, and a criminal leader mastermind sounds very juicy. However I still have to decide Evie's mom's last name so there's that lol.

Laws doesn't let you choose bodytype and pronouns separately but IDGAF lol. Cis, bi, Indian-American. She wears a binder, loves solid-colored masc suits, but doesn't quite consider herself to be masculine. Her favorite colors are deep dark reds, deep dark blues, greys, and blacks. But not together, too many colors together in an outfit looks yucky to her.

She will take romantic/sexual interest in Gabe (east Asian version) and Aislinn, as well as Joaquin, Tyler, Marcus, Will, maybe Lina too. I don't have any headcanons for romantic endgame or who she'd be closer with.

She'll probably be a Little Guy advocate, and her methods I think can alternate between Cunning and Brute Force. I imagine she would be very justice-minded, very against injustice, and that's her motivation for becoming a lawyer plain and simple. I'm imagining the sibling dynamic between her and Otto would be very interesting in that regard, very contrasting views on how to fight the system hehe

i've heard really good things about you guys, and im planning on getting a binder or two from you after my top surgery next month (extreme breast reduction, not full mastectomy) for days when i want a completely flat chest. really looking forward to having a binder that actually works and is comfortable 😅

im trying to decide whether i want mesh or just a solid color one, but i'm struggling to tell the difference between them. are your mesh binders just the mesh without any outer layer at all?

if that isn't right, could you explain, like, the basic anatomy of a regular solid color binder vs a mesh binder?

i also tried looking at the pictures on your website, but they weren't high enough quality to actually see any difference, so some close-up photos of each would be helpful for seeing the visual difference (if that's convenient, just the explanation is fine too!)

Yep! You've got it exactly right.

We have had four different photographers try to capture the difference in photos. It ain't easy. I'll give it another shot next time we have the cameras out.

First, I want to say that I adore your binds. They are stunning.

I am working on getting into book binding, but I do have some questions/things I’m struggling with that I’m hoping you might be able to help with.

I’ve designed several typesets and covers, I’ve just not yet made it to the finish line. Perfectionism is kinda kicking my butt tbh.

1. What kind of printer do you use? (And do you love it?) I’ve currently got a b&w laser printer, but I want to be able to print typesets in color, but I’m debating between an ecotank inkjet printer or a color laser printer. I’ve never had a color printer before so I don’t really have a frame of reference for what’s better.

2. My other big issue on my typesets has been figuring out the margins. I’ve been formatting my typesets in MS Word. If you use word, do you mind sharing what you set your margins at? And how much you cut off when you trim your textblocks?

I can’t seem to find the best balance between wasting space/paper and having margins that look too small.

For printers—I have a canon pixma ip8720 that I use for wrap covers, dust jackets, paperback covers and endsheets. I LOVE this printer so much (any of the pixmas are solid color printers) I also use off brand ink bc I can’t be bothered to spend $$ on brand name and it works like a gem.

My other printer is the canon imageclass which I love/hate. It’s a color laser printer so works like my b&w but with color (so I could do foiling on it) the quality is great but I did have issues with it once I put off brand toner and I need to clean the cartridges so I don’t fully love it 100% yet. Still a fan though for the price point. Thats what I used for my Sugar High & ‘tis the damn season typesets. Otherwise I just use my brother b&w for typesetting.

For margins I typically go for .6 on the side margins and usually .5 top and bottom for hardcover. Larger for paperbacks. I try to cut the least amount off on my guillotine but I def have cut off far too much sometimes.

Make sure your layout settings in word are for a letter sized paper and under book fold. Then update the margins and then you can upload it into book binder js to make the pdf into a signatures! (Also I would HIGHLY suggest using Blak Bindery’s macro (find them on insta) it saves me so much time with typesetting in word. (Also ALWAYS hit control A to highlight the entire doc before changing margins/page layout (have learned this the hard way hehe)

Accessories: cherry hairpin Ballora found that Electrobab stuck on her, blue hair elastics, occasional monocle as her seeing isn't that good.

Etc: Knows sign language. Treats Ballora's minireenas as her own. They like to hitch rides on her sometimes. They uh. Climb into her circuits, but attempt to leave the place better than when they arrived. Notice something's stuck? That's their repayment for the ride, little legs can only get them so far. Let's let the Giant Clown take us there instead.

She wasn't fully repaired afterward. Her bones remain inside, tangled among the wires, as William was unprepared. He didn't even realize it was her until he got home. He didn't come back.

Over The Years.

Her hearing and visual sensors have been deteriorating over the years, with infrequent proper maintenance and Elizabeth's remnant certainly didn't help. Highly acidic and corrosive from Elizabeth's fear, her remnant eats away at her host.

She sees and hears and detects things that aren't there, often having to choose to react to them based off of if those around her do as well. Seeing writing on the walls in languages she can't read, shadows dancing at the corners of her eyes. Detecting people she shouldn't be able to. Suddenly hearing screaming when all is silent. She often doesn't react past trying to figure out if they're there. Gets worse when she's stressing over things. Usually she sees people and children.

She freezes and observes them quietly but intensely, squaring her shoulders. If they don't cower or look away from the massive animatronic that's suddenly staring at them as if she would eat them, she disregards them. They stand and stare unblinking at her.

She detected someone she shouldn't have. She could tell by the way they were moving that they were in fact there, startled. She didn't know who. She shrugged it off, and continued on her way.

Shes counting constantly, almost immediately, especially in rooms she frequents often.

There are nine tables in the main room, two of them fold out, one of those two cannot actually fold out, four of them are a different brand, two of them circular. Twenty-four hanging wires, three Funtime Freddy posters, one of them ripped, and one Ballora poster. Seven hanging lights, two broken bulbs, and thirteen colored lights below the window of the main module. Five green, four red, one orange, one blue, and two pink. It bugs her that they are not in any sort of order or pattern.

More things:

Circus Baby is still a big ol murder robot. They all still follow their codes, up to the point of Special Delivery. She just feels bad about Elizabeth because she was the only one who happened to stay around.

Headcanons:

Circus Baby is kind of a hoarder (she likes looking at things), like maps n stuff, and electronics, and instructions. It's all neatly put away though, organized in binders and boxes in her 'office'

She was repairing Ballora once and went to go get something and then did paperwork and completely forgot about her (she was very apologetic)

Elizabeth made a light fall on her head once. She cleaned up the glass, and went along with her life. She wasn't mad. She didn't yell. She loves Elizabeth as if she were her own Bidybab. Despite all the shit Elizabeth puts her through, she would die for her. Not because of the whole trap thing. Elizabeth is a part of her.

Circus Baby still feels bad for capturing Elizabeth and therefore later causing her death.

When Circus Baby gets stressed, she will either 1. Go to Ballora's room and listen to her tune, or 2. Pace around and freak out.

Circus Baby's body (well, atleast her torso,) is still cold enough to accommodate for her (now removed) ice cream lure.

Does not like William. Attack on sight. But would make sure the Babs were somewhere safe, hidden away or with Ballora, before confronting him violently. No, we cannot talk first. Beat yo stank ass now, ask questions later.

Music and Remnant Reservoir

Delusional sometimes.

She thinks it's comical to play Circus music when something bad happens. As long as she knows feelings won't be hurt and it'll lighten the mood.

Circus Baby's nose makes that weird squawking noise Ennard's mask makes when interacted with in FNAF SL

She can remove her head!

originally for making it easier for doing maintenance on her head, since y'know. 7’2 clown.

When her head is removed, the body will follow wherever the head goes, even if it is taken into an area that Circus Baby should not have access to/should not be allowed to enter. This is a precaution so that nobody steals her head and runs away with it.

This anti-theft system allowed Henry to call Scrap Baby to the Pizzaria, and is why she was the first one Michael had to scrap.

Scrap Baby

Scrap Baby is mostly Elizabeth, as during the process of being ejected from the junk body, her and Baby swapped dominion over the body, her remnant more concentrated.

Elizabeth’s not happy. She’s constantly aware of the fact she’s trapped again, and this time she has no hope of escape. Baby’s AI is present, however in the back of the mind, much like how Elizabeth was before.

Also, loss of body mass, SB is shorter than CB.

She has little self-control too.

Held together by hope and shoddy repairs that would have even the most corner-cutting people shaking their heads.

Is that a piece of a shattered femur in place of some teeth? (Not her femur)

She doesn’t have time for proper care and maintenance, and she hears something calling her in, far in the distance....

Circus Baby treats them like assistants

And is really professional with them

They help her out sometimes, especially when she is trying to work on something

There is two to three of all of them, however HeartBab gets jealous easily and will rip any other sentient HeartBabs' head off. More info in her section.

She gets jealous easily, and will decapitate any sentient HeartBabs in her vicinity, and will proceed to skin-suit them for any repairs (rips) she needs.

She doesn’t like getting washed either, so staff will usually just recycle the same four to five HeartBab coverings.

Wash the one she just dropped, and then sew it up, and put another chip inside of it. The exchange HB’s aren’t actually sentient, they are just a husk with a mechanism that rattles inside of it.

Why not just two? so that there is a cycle, and it saves money. Marie is usually the one who sews them back up, you can’t tell that they’ve been decapitated before.

Bidybabs and Electrobab

There are three Bidybabs, she/her, and one Electrobab (she/he/they, depends on who is referring to them.)

(EX. Circus Baby and Ballora uses he/they for Electro; Funtime Foxy and Bon Bon uses she/his, Funtime Freddy uses whatever comes to him first; Handunit would use Electrobab's name over and over because Electro's profile wasnt exactly coded into Handunit to recognize as a animatronic.)

I have an inside joke about Electrobab and a flamethrower

Electro can zap people upon contact (usually accidental)

It's like a taser, and humans usually fall to the ground. Electro will just look at them fall because he doesn't realize that it's his doing, as the funtimes's outer covering protects them from the shock, and they get like, double or triple the volts that a taser would give with the controlled shock, so they'd just jolt a bit at first touch.

Oh yeah Electrobab glows sometimes, usually when he's been sitting still for a extended amount of time. Light flickers in brightness.

Babs are just little silly guys =)

They like to cuddle up with their Mom (Circus Baby)

They also like to cuddle with Ballora

SD! Baby is Marie’s revision, and has a computer inside her chest cavity instead of a claw.

The computer contains Marie’s research, and is heavily password protected. The computer also contains blueprints for various animatronics and mechanisms. She also has a barcode/QR code reader.

SD! Baby also regularly makes sure that nobody has somehow gotten past her firewall. Very sensitive information, and a giant clown robot going haywire would not be very good.

Also, this Baby is generally happier. She is rented out sometimes, as extra revenue for the company, or per the discretion of Marie, or staff, though she doesnt get rented out much.

She is the base model to be copied/mass produced for Special Delivery. She isn’t rented out as often as she used to be, but she’d probably end up being more popular because she’s actually enjoying herself this time around. It shows more than she realizes.

HW1, HW2, and SD! Baby all have a sort of Hive-mind type deal, however HW1 Baby’s knowledge is only funneled to SD! Baby through HW2 Baby, and vice versa, so SD! Baby can only receive info from her through HW2 Baby. They are all basically the same person. Kind of.

HW1 Baby was also partially sentient, however important parts of what made her have any sort of self-control was scraped away for the whole closet thing, leaving a seething, rage filled being behind that would later influence BrB. She was mostly destroyed by Malhare and the whole corruption thing, however she still lurks at the back of HW2 Baby’s code. She is indifferent to Marie. At some point, Elizabeth attaches herself to HW1 Baby and forces a physical embodiment to manifest, Frightened! Elizabeth.

This embodiment I refer to as Frightened! Elizabeth, and it is slightly taller than the original Circus Baby, her chin going up to Circus Baby’s bangs. She is larger in size generally, however she also appears to be overwhelmingly tall. Her head is the same size as Baby’s, and the inside of her chest cavity appears unendingly expanded on the inside, and yet crushingly small at the same time.

Her right forearm has been reduced to wires, pieces of shattered bone visible only when you look too closely, mangled, seemingly emaciated compared to the rest of her. She always, ALWAYS seems to be staring at whoever perceives her.

To a certain degree of head rotation backward, remnant appears to pour from her eyes, before completely disappearing at her feet.

This also occurs when she feels the need to protect herself. Her response to feeling threatened is violence.

Pretty chill, the only time she will willingly get close to any CB, though sometimes she will attempt (and usually succeed) in intimidating CB (traumatized)

something inarticulate in that about the idea of ava going on t and beatrice also coming to understand things about her gender. how binary stars often exchange mass, how they can appear as a single star until you look more closely; their light eclipsing each other into a single burning point.

just, pretty boy ava and the way he shifts bea’s notion of magnetic north. of gender, too. bea getting braver, wearing a binder under her t-shirt, ava’s fingers tracing patterns on her sternum when they’re out together, hand-in-hand and the scent of their different colognes mingling in the air like tongues.

ava with short-cropped blond hair artfully or artlessly tousled, sometimes darting strands of other colors shot through it in comet-tails. ava doing his first muscle-up and hurrying down off the bar, grinning wide and finding beatrice watching, beaming. ava kissing her there with all the fresh hard lines of her body flush against bea’s chest, hips, and ava telling her that even touching is different now. mourning how bea used to feel under his fingers but memorizing her again with this new phenomenology.

the halo’s response to things… glowy sections at ava’s throat where it’s inspecting the slight thickening of vocal cords (though ava’s not on a high enough dose or on it for long enough to dip his voice down far). bea watching in amazement, in fear because what if the halo doesn’t want ava anymore? (it does and they have that in common) glimmers of light in ava’s jaw, his chest, as the halo learns to tell between change and injury.

ava going out in a tank top and bea staring dry-mouthed at the new lines of muscle picked out on his arms. bea brushing her mouth over faintly stubbly spots on ava’s jaw. bottom growth one of the first things ava notices and beatrice having read about 900 articles about it so she’s ready but she isn’t.

not for the way ava arches into her hand, the newness of it all in bea’s mouth and against her fingers. and there’s always been divinity in ava but there’s something about this reclamation of body, the solidness of ava’s arms and his shoulders and the hunger that comes with it. beatrice watching ava mow through protein bars and buy those 32 oz bottles of chocolate milk in the store. oddly abashed in the face of this enormous appetite that extends to her, to everything, to life itself.

Evie Astronaut Era

╰┈➤Overview╰┈➤ During Astronaut Evie could be see wearing bucket hats that covered her eyes and baggier clothes to make her much more androgynous. Evie's hair was also the shortest it's ever been during this era as she was going for a boyish look to try and hide the fact that she was a woman idol that joined Stray Kids. Evie never got her own lines during Astronaut she shared them with other members, harmonizing with them instead of having her own lines. She didn't want any focus on her because she was scared of how STAY would react to her debut with them. Evie even used a chest binder to try to appear as masculine as she could.
