I think, before the events of Pillars of Eternity and becoming Lady of Caed Nua, Sabina was honestly very envious of spiders whenever she encountered them. As an unwilling Drifter, she envied the spider's homemaking ability, and the fact that they could live their whole lives without leaving said home :(

6.how does your watcher's past life affect their current actions?

Allara's past life impacts her a fair amount. She's disgusted by her past, and her betrayal of iovara and, to some extent more importantly, her bowing down to thaos even when the truth is revealed. While she doesn't want to be defined by her past life, and she generally holds the view that what a person does in their past life shouldn't have any bearing on what they do in their current one, this is a theory vs practice scenario and she does very much want to avoid being that person again. This results in her being really harsh on the leaden key and thaos (deserved) and it's only really when she meets and deals with the inquisitor in the beast of winter that she takes a step back a reappraises that maybe she's being too hard on herself (only a little bit though)

11.who are your watcher's least favorite companions?

The easy answer is Durance, from the get go, Allara was disgusted by him and his actions (some of her disgust being before he even opens his mouth and reveals anything actually bad about himself), but towards the end, while she still does not like him, it mostly transforms into pity. She ultimately supports him getting his revenge on Magran, but that's really just her enacting her own pissed off feelings towards the gods, instead of having any real investment in Durance's struggles. Unfortunately, his talents as a priest are too important to ignore, so she usually just grits her teeth and bears his presence. She ends their relationship thinking he's just kind of pathetic.

She also has a very bad relationship with Maia. For starters, she feels like Maia was just dropped on her lap by the Royal Deadfire Company, and this immediately has her hackles raised. While Allara really got along well with Kana, the differences between the siblings also sets Allara off on the wrong foot. On top of this, Allara, between her personality and the stress of everything happening in the Deadfire, ends up being really insensitive towards Maia's doubts - she takes the approach that since she was able to leave the Bleak Walkers when she realised their approach was wrong, Maia should be able to leave the RDC, without really caring for the nuances of their different situations.

12.what does your watcher think about the gods?

It's really complicated. Pre-reveal, she kind of just knew they were there. She had a personal fondness towards Wael, and the events of the White March give her a weird soft spot for Abydon, but she was never particularly devout. Post-reveal she turns a lot more negative, seeing them as nothing more that bitter, over-bearing nobles who are punishing mortals for their mistakes. Try as she might though, she still desperately wants to prove the worth of mortals to the gods and she can't disregard their opinions on the matter, even though she would want to. By the end of Deadfire, she has a weird respect towards Berath, which is a massive step up from Allara breaking her bargain with them. Mixed into all of this is her weird relationship towards Eothas, who she likes because Edér likes him, and she does, in theory, like the idea of letting mortals do their own thing, but his destruction of Caed Nua and the taking of her souls along with all the destruction, does make her feel very conflicted about this.

2. what is your watcher’s disposition?

Oh man, it might be easier to tell what isn't. 😂 Seriously though, Eloi is honest and benevolent by nature and his upbringing in Old Vailia as a child of penniless immigrants taught him well to always try and be diplomatic to avoid conflicts or getting unwanted attention. However, also due to his upbringing and circumstances, he feels very passionately about certain things... which has resulted in Eloi getting into trouble more times than he even cares to admit.

6. how does your watcher’s past life affect their current actions?

After dealing with Thaos Eloi has actually done his best to try and forget as much of his past life as possible. Being a kind person who is always the first to reach out and help people (and also someone who grew up not being particularly religious, though also not entirely an atheist), it was a real shock for him to learn that he used to commit such awful acts in the name of the gods in his past life. His past life also used to be in love with Iovara so what he did to her especially weighs really heavy on him. In present time Eloi would rather sacrifice himself than to hurt any of the people close to him.

Of course, since he is not able to actually forget everything, despite trying very hard not to dwell on his past life, Eloi is trying possibly even more than ever to be as good as possible and help as many people as he can... often forgetting to look after himself while looking out for others. Some of his companions try to help him unwind and take his mind off of things whenever and however they can, some with better success than others.

Gaura always had a weird relationship with them because of... mommy issues to put it simply, some she liked, some she loathed, but after finding out about their true nature she comes to see them as tools to maintain a world order envisioned by a loathsome empire. She still has some positive feelings to some of them as individuals, but she'll gladly see them all deposed (and/or destroyed) if it means bringing about a world that has the freedom to chart its own course rather than following the trajectory that the Engwithans determined for it.

also she's kinda sorta super anxious over the idea that Magran can eat her soul at any time she feels like it and that it's actually a tangible threat so there is also that

what is your watcher's opinion of iovara?

That's a tricky question. As far as she's concerned Gaura doesn't really know Iovara, she knows her cause and she supports that - but the Inquisitor did know her, she was her best friend and they had some unspoken romantic feelings that didn't come to light until Gaura's lifetime and that kind of complicates her own views on her.

Desta of the Kind Wayfarers

When she was young and still trying to find a place in Galawain's temple, she did make a genuine attempt at being a hunter...but she was pretty terrible at it. The poor girl's got no stealth at all!

Her very long hair can be a bit of a hassle at times, but she's given up on trying to control it- every time she cuts it, it grows back almost immediately

Her very high strength means she's great at picking up the party's squishy wizard and carrying him to safety every time he gets hurt in a fight. Her very low insight means she has no idea how flustered this makes him

Rudi Xavell

For the most part, she doesn't have any strong feelings about the gods. She just does what she thinks is practical, like giving offerings to Galawain before and after a hunt. Of all my Watchers, she's the least bothered about holy philosophy- if it works, it works, and it doesn't really matter if it's 'real' or not

Her favorite color is red, to the point where red capes and red-accented clothing becomes her signature look as ruler of Caed Nua

She makes her own arrows! With the focus required, she finds it to be a very meditative activity and it helps her clear her mind

Miervaldis Ygdin

He's really good at knitting and sewing! He learned this from his oldest sister, who was a tailor, and homemade blankets have become his go-to gift for friends and family (i imagine quilts especially to have a big significance in the White That Wends, and he gave his parents a special quilt as a going away gesture when he left home)

He uses he/him pronouns, but honestly he's very indifferent to the concept of gender in general

He has one (1) level in druid, purely because ice spells fit his aesthetic and i wanted an excuse to give him some

xoti for character breakdown <3

How I feel about this character: I like Xoti a lot!! With all that goes down with the Gods in PoE1, I think it was very bold of them to feature a very faithful cleric in the second game and explore how she keeps her faith to Eothas/Gaun despite.... All That. I also like how she contrasts Edér and shows a darker side to the Eothasian faith, and the game never feels like it's out to "prove her wrong" for her belief, just to push her to explore it. Her design is also very good, it bridges the gap between monk and cleric very nicely!

All the people I ship romantically with this character: She's real cute with Maia imo, even if it sometimes veers a little into "manic pixie dream girl" for me (sometimes). Their relationship feels like they're finding a calm in all the storm and I really really enjoy that. And Firefly is an adorable nickname <3

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Honestly, with the exception of the obvious no-go's like Maia+Tekēhu and Xoti+Pallegina, I feel like the entire Deadfire crew could fit this spot for each other. For Xoti specifically, I think Edér is an obvious choice, I like how her infatuation evolves into genuine respect once they learn more about each other. In addition, I also love her friendships with Serafen and Aloth, I love the moment when Serafen looks into her mind and is like "uhhhhh HEY, watcher?", and the mentor-esque role Aloth fits into feels so cozy. She and Tekēhu also give me huge sibling energy, for better and for worse lol.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Again, no idea how popular/unpopular this is in the PoE fandom, but I personally really hate her accent. Like deeply. Like it's an issue I have with all of Deadfire actually, because in that game they decided to give nearly every Readceran a rural/southern American accent (including Adaryc who definitely did not have one before) and for me it dips into stereotype territory that I could really do without. Like, "oh the group of people with a strong belief in their "dead" god, who's all about forgiveness and redemption, and who are generally seen as uninformed suckers except when they're seen as sleazy religious cult-leading con-artists? yeah let's give them American Southern accents" like fuck offfff fr. At best it feels just kinda lazy when nothing else about Readceras really reads as "southern" (Xoti's name for example more brings to mind Chinese than Texan), and at worst I find it kind of offensive! It doesn't help that almost none of their accents sound very natural or well-researched, just kinda generic hollywood "cowboy accents" and that I've already heard plenty of that from CR's Imogen and FCG

It specifically bugs me with Xoti bc she can be both naive and super flirtatious, which imo is fine on it's own but those two traits + the accent rub me the wrong way soooo bad.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I hope we see her again, either in Avowed somewhere or in a future Pillars game <3

Wulfrun - The Watcher of Caed Nua

"Wulfrun awoke to whispers at the edge of hearing and the mocking dance of ghosts in her periphery. Behind her laid the corpses of Heodan and Calisca, doomed to lie in lifeless anguish until the vultures sated themselves. She was alone again. Alone with only herself and questions, ancient questions, that would not make themselves known, staying just out reach as she shambled her way to Gilded Vale. . ."

i've never really had a set OC for pillars of eternity (shout out to @solas-backpack-mug & @ampleappleamble for getting me thinking about this). i've always just sort of played similar characters of different races and backgrounds and such. so here is my attempt at establishing my poor beleaguered little watcher. let's get to know her:

a pale elf from an aedyran colony in the living lands. she's used to curious and ill-mannered looks from strangers.

she never did quite fit in with the rest of the colony, spending her days reading and practicing swordplay - a necessity in the wilds of the living lands.

from a young age she could see and manipulate the wild essence that suffused the nature of the living lands. coupled with her arcane studies under aedyran tutors, it gives her a rare view of eora.

she grew tired of living on the frontier and set off for the dyrwood, a place she thought ought to be more tame (oh how disappointed she would be).

she is the type of person to do good works and shun recognition for them. she likes to joke that she's "cursed with compassion".

her frequent social isolation has made it difficult for her to form any lasting friendships. easy to befriend, hard to get to know. traveling with such a large party just might change this.

she gets along swimmingly with edér, sharing his penchant for deflecting with humor and petting any animal in sight. unlike edér, she is not inclined to pet orlans.

"no parting of ways can erase memories of times without worry, times when even without gods, we were never truly alone." finding out iovara was her sister in a past life and hearing her say this just about broke her.

she frequently takes time to journey to twin elms and breith eaman to speak with iovara. this is mostly to see her sister, but it is also so she can escape the duties of being roadwarden of caed nua.

I love how he seems so serious but has a silly side too. He likes frilly little cakes, accidently sets his coat tails on fire, oh and his tortoise tea pot!! Also shoutout to the tiny mug on his backpack
