"I'm sorry, my love..."
Everyone had a rough time getting through the Survivor Trial on Kazuwari, but Aloth's hands getting crushed by a boulder hit Sabina particularly hard, seeing as he's a wizard and he kinda needs those :(

1 and 16 from the oc ask for lydia and sabina! :3
ahh thank you for the ask!!
1. What was the original thought that led to the creation of this character?
Lydia: So i've mentioned this before, but from the moment I finished Tresspasser the first time and saw that we were going to Tevinter I knew I wanted my future PC to be from the Imperium. The concept didn't fully develop (partially due to the fact that up until Veilguard's new name dropped, I'd fully given up on seeing a fourth Dragon Age game) until the first trailer showcasing all the companions, and then I was like "oh crap i do actually have to come up with a new character for this game".
Her appearance, actually, takes a lot of inspiration from my og Inquisitor, Irithiel Lavellan, (medium dark skin, brown hair, golden eyes, etc.) who I really was not vibing with anymore as Inquisitor and wanted to repurpose some of her design. Then they released the faction backgrounds and i fell in love with the concept of the Lords of Fortune, and the rest is history <3
Sabina: Sabina originally started out as a dwarf, purely bc Old Vailia sounded like the coolest background and I think in it's description it mentioned that a lot of dwarves live there, but due to PoE's isometric POV and the fact it didn't really play into her character that much i kept forgetting that 😅 So in Deadfire i ended up changing her to a Meadow Folk, and I think that's when the current Sabina really started to take shape. I really loved Deadfire's pirate aspects and had really been wanting to play a character who used a rapier, so when I replayed the first PoE i changed her class from ranger (with a bear companion) to a Rogue, and then when I replayed Deadfire I kinda fell in love with the model of the Stag, and with the birth of Eamoc as her ranger companion (giving her the "scout" class) Sabina achieved her final, current form <3
16. Is there any memes or running jokes associated with the character, both in- and out of universe?
Hmmm 👀

HI follow up question for Sabina: What is her opinion on and relationship with the Príncipi? considering she hails from Old Valia. 👀
Hi hiii omg follow up question <333
Her opinion of the Príncipi is, in fact, extremely complicated! Of course the people she'd most relate to in the Deadfire Archipelago would be thieves and pirates, isn't that just her luck?
While she misses a lot of things about her home, jingoistic nationalist nobles pining for "the days of glory" were not among them, and so people like Captain Furrante really rub her the wrong way. This whole thing, going all the way back to pre-PoE1, started because she was on the run from nobles who thought just that same way, and were willing to do whatever it took to achieve it.
Having said that, though, it is nice to see some remnants of her home, and encouraging to see those homely aspects translated to sea life. Up until the Ukaizo Race Falling Out, she got along fairly well with Captain Aeldys (so long as she didn't ask too many questions about what Aeldys was actually up to). And while she also finds some common ground with the Vailian Trading Company, at least the Príncipi are honest about the bad they do.

Heya! 2, 6, 29, B from the uncommon asks for any/as many ocs as you'd like! c:
Ooh, thank you for the ask!! I think for these, I'll go with my Rook, Lydia Laidir and my Watcher, Sabina Lancaster <3
2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?
Lydia: Pretty easy, though it's rarely a genuine laugh and more of a little "heh" kinda laugh, and usually I think she's mostly interested in getting other people to laugh. I'd say she's more likely to really laugh at something that happened to be funny organically, rather than anything intended as an actual joke.
Sabina: Very easy. Sabina can a giggly mess sometimes, and she has a huge weakness for puns. It's not put on either - she genuinely just finds many aspects of life to be pretty funny, and she finds that laughter can, at times, lift the weight that's pretty much perpetually dragging her down.
6. Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?
Lydia: The only law that matters to Lydia is the one written on her heart. The "law" allowed for her and her family to be enslaved in Tevinter, the "law" has kept her people in oppression by way of alienages and circle towers, and the "law" is what protects corrupt Rivaini nobles. She knows right from wrong, and she uses the compass of her heart to decide what she needs to do, not some words on paper held in a vault somewhere.
Sabina: Sabina gets why the laws are the way they are, she really does. She believes that most of the corruption in the world comes from either the misapplication of the law or the absence of it, but the laws themselves are there to keep people safe and make good choices. She's been in too many city underbellies and seen too many good people fall victim to those with no respect for the law, and on top of that, she recognizes each place she's visited has had slightly different laws to reflect the needs of their community. That being said, sometimes she believes you gotta do what you gotta do, and she is willing to bend the law (or hopefully find some kind of legal loophole) if she feels like it's obstructing true justice.
29. Do they usually live up to their own ideals?
Lydia: She tries so hard, but no, not really. Especially in her early days with the Lords, she did a lot of things that she later felt pretty ashamed of, such as stealing from the needy and directing her anger at those who didn't deserve it. Much of the reason she's in the Veilguard in the first place is because she's hoping to atone for some of those things. She does better nowadays, she only steals from those she deems can afford it, like nobles, and she's less likely to blow up in anger, but the latter one still happens more often than she'd like (though, given what she's goes through in datv her reactions are understandable).
Sabina: Usually? Yes, she wouldn't ask anything of other people she didn't think she was also fully capable of. She believes one should always be ready to help those in need, she believes in fairness and freedom of will, and above all, she believes in being an honest person. The last one is even a huge point of friction between her and Aloth, and the one she holds herself to the most strongly. Except, of course, when it comes to lying about who destroyed the Brass Citadel and placing the blame on Alvari. She really, truly believes it's the best course of action and that the Huana deserve to reclaim Ukaizo. Nevertheless, the lie tastes like ash in her mouth, and she feels from that point on like something fundamental had broken within her.
B) What inspired you to create them?
Lydia: Ever since the Inquisitor stabbed the Tevinter Imperium on the map at the end of Trespasser, I knew my hypothetical DA4 protagonist was going to be from Tevinter. And then we learned more about the game, and the Tevinter faction, the Shadow Dragons were....eh? They were fine, but not really what I was hoping for. And one of the other factions, the Lords of Fortune, just looked so cool, and Rivain sounded so cool, and the fact that Rook Laidir left a corrupt noble to die at the bottom of the ocean sounded so cool! So I came up with the idea of having a multicultural Rook, originally from Tevinter but who grew up in Rivain (which was then confirmed to be canon in the game, much to my surprise!) and when I decided she was going to be an elf, that's when the Tevinter slavery aspect entered into things. I'd also been watching a lot of Arcane at the time, and I think some aspects of Vi's character ended up rubbing off on Lydia subconsciously (especially the idea that she's very quick to choose violence as the solution, and that's she's a little uncomfortable with that fact)
Sabina: With so much going on in the world of Eora race-wise, I liked the idea of playing a character who was. Just a regular dude. I think Sabina has some of the most aspects of myself in her of any of my OCs, from her appearance to her love of animals to her aforementioned giggly disposition. I went with the Drifter background because I was originally going for a more con-man-esque character who fit into the archetype of the Dashing Rogue, before I realized that I enjoyed playing a character with a more rigid moral compass, and then I had to adapt her backstory to fit that. And then I made her a ranger after playing Dead fire and going ":) Deer!! :D"

2, 5, 19, 25 for lydia and/or sabina :3
ooh thank you for the ask!! I think I'll do both of them :3
2. Can they take care of a plant? What about a pet? What about a child?
Lydia: Ha! Haha. No <3 (She would adapt if there were extenuating circumstances and Could do it but. it wouldn't be fun or ideal)
Sabina: I like to think she takes care of the plant life around Caed Nua, and she does take good care of Eamoc, but in both cases I'd say they're pretty self-sufficient and would be okay without her (well, Eamoc would have been before the whole "soul-healing-though-eternal-binding thing"), so I don't think she could take care of a garden or a puppy or anything. As for a child............she could, if she were ever able to find some stability. A baby and the Drifter lifestyle aren't the greatest mix, yet another reason she resents being on the run :(
5. Speech! Speech! Speech! Speech! Will they give one, and what about?
Lydia: After some convincing, she would give a speech, and I think she'd make it a point to mention as many "little", unseen people who helped her and made it possible along the way~
Sabina: She would also give a speech, a surprisingly eloquent and rousing one given how off-the-cuff it is. She'd keep it short but sweet, and make every word worth hearing.
19. Do they study before tests? Practice before job interviews?
Lydia: Nah, she just wings it. Not like prepping has ever really helped her before 🤷🏻‍♀️
Sabina: Borderline-obsessively, she has flashcards at the read and does fake pre-tests/pre-interviews 😤📝
25. Safety or possibility?
Lydia: A mix of both, I'd say. Possibility's no good to her without at least some security (and especially after the events of the game she'd kill for some stability), but the world is so big. How can anyone not feel the need to explore it?
Sabina: Safety, safety, safety. She's seen plenty of the world and explored as many possibilities as she can stomach, and now she just wants to settle somewhere, stationary and safe </3

Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire spoilers, but I finished it the other night and I haven't been able to stop thinking about how juicy this story is for a Drifter!Watcher and I need to talk about it at least semi-coherently.
In my memory, nearly every time you talk to/about Eothas you have the option to justify your pursuit of him by the fact that he destroyed Caed Nua. Obviously sometimes this is meant to be comedic (calling the God of Rebirth a "jackass" was one of the more surreal moments of this game), but from what I could see it is pretty consistent; whether the Watcher is talking to the other gods about Eothas or talking directly to him (including the final confrontation with him), they can swing back around to the same thing; "You destroyed my castle and you need to answer for it."
And I just think this is so interesting for my Watcher, who has the "Drifter" background! Sabina wasn't one by choice, and the reason she came to The Dyrwood was to start over, away from the people who have been chasing her, and settle down. While it didn't happen the way she expected, Caed Nua gave her the one thing she always craved, which is stability. For five good years, she remains in her new castle in the Dyrwood, gains a respected place in the community as its Lady, and finally has a home to call her own.
And then a big green giant rips it away from her in an instant, and she wakes up on a boat, in the middle of the sea. Drifting.
And suddenly she's right back where she started, wandering from island to island, never fully stationary. While she grows to love her crew and the ship itself (annoyingly, being a ship captain comes very naturally to her) and finds a new kind of home in them, she never really gets over the loss of Caed Nua. It was her castle, yes, and while she enjoyed the luxuries of being a Dyrwoodan Lady, that was never really the point. It could have been a run-down shack in the middle of the woods for all she cared, what mattered was that it was her's. And even so, it was deemed acceptable collateral damage by Eothas, and that stained whatever relationship they could have, and even her relationship with the other gods. Not to mention she has precious little time to even process her grief for it, or for the people there.
It feels so petty to say that you still haven't forgiven Eothas for destroying Caed Nua in your final conversation with him, after everything else that's happened since then, and that is precisely why it's so juicy. Whatever else the Watcher may be, they are still mortal, and the damage done to them is just as lasting and as unfair as it would be with any other mortal.
And the final nail in the coffin is that once it's all finally over, Sabina leaves most of her companions in Deadfire (including her new partner Aloth) to go... home. Wherever that is now. It's not in Deadfire. And neither is it in the Dyrwood, not anymore. Until she can find it again, she'll be left, once again, drifting from place to place.

hi!!! art ask meme, maybe 🕷 for sabina :3
🕷: draw a character reacting to a spider
Tumblr media
Sorry this took so long but I got in my feelings about this prompt </3
I think, before the events of Pillars of Eternity and becoming Lady of Caed Nua, Sabina was honestly very envious of spiders whenever she encountered them. As an unwilling Drifter, she envied the spider's homemaking ability, and the fact that they could live their whole lives without leaving said home :(

10 19 23 for the OC questions!
tysm for the ask!! <333
10. Introduce an OC with a complicated design?
Any oc that has tattoos is one I consider to be "complicated", but Marco adds on top of that really busy armor AND a sci-fi gun, so I'm gonna go with him.
Tumblr media
(it's part of why I've basically only ever drawn him once or twice, with most of his armor either off or covered lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
19. Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why)
Oh okay! I think for this one, I'm gonna go with Zephyr <3 like I've mentioned before, she was really the first oc I had to build from the ground up, and so I feel really involved in a lot of her character. She has a lot of qualities that I admire in other people; a strong balance of physical and mental prowess, an impressive amount of discipline, an appreciation for the arts, a level head in intense situations, etc. I enjoy exploring and thinking about her relationship with her family and how that shaped her into the person she is today, and in some ways I feel like she represents a lot of things I'm not, but aim to be <3
23. Introduce an OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what the character would be like?
Oohh, interesting! I don't think I have many OCs that have undergone super drastic changes (at least while remaining the same ocs), but I have a few that have had minor changes. Sabina was originally a Mountain Dwarf before I decided that being a Meadow Folk fit her vibes better, Ruathym was originally going to be my first Ace OC before deciding BG3 was not really the best game to try that with (since he was basically constantly rebuffing advances from the other companions💀) and Vanessa's design has slowly been inching closer and closer to the default Jane Femshep design with the red hair lol
some OC questions <3
