Carmy is about to pull this shit. He is really about to go in and likely blow up one of the only good relationships he has left from The Beef. After yelling at Tina from the pass. After stressing out everyone and their fucking dog cos he thinks this is acceptable behaviour if its all in service of a star?
This part of 3x03 Doors was such a jagged scene for me because of a few things (including what I've said above). What else got me:
Tina is someone Carmy knows, that Carmy loves (go back to their scene in 1x08 Braciole talking about Mikey. Go back to Carmy's soft "hey Tina you go ahead, you take the night off okay? I got you.");
Tina is an older woman of colour who has made the commitment to skill up so that she can work at The Bear after working at The Beef. Carmy has seen the work she has put in but in this moment, he pays none of it any mind. Imagine being T. Imagine how that would feel. Imagine how it would feel knowing all we know after watching Tina's journey in 3x06 Napkins. The thing is, Carmy doesn't need to know all of T's backstory to know his behaviour is unacceptable. The fact that he knows some of it and proceeds to act in this way is just more evidence of his white privilege showing its ass.
Carmy does not have the self reflexivity here to look at his young, white, male self yelling at this older WOC and see how fucked this is: how he's become another white guy in a litany of white men barking at workers of colour, not seeing Tina for the whole human she is but reducing her to a means of production. The racial dynamics on this show are so evident but don't get talked about nearly enough. I know the writers have crafted those dynamics on purpose because as beautiful a character as Carmy is, he's also a product of his environment as a white chef trained in a highly racially segregated field. This has repercussions for his relationships in season 3, particularly with the BIPOC characters in his life. @november-rising speaks about Carmy's behaviour in relation to Black women's experiences of love and professional recognition devastatingly here. Read their post and the reblogs.
While this shit made me so mad this season, it was also in character - as I've said here - for a white guy trained in fine dining to revert to established patterns of behaviour. Though, I'm gonna need the writers of the show to show US that they did this on purpose and have Carmy ATONE for this shit in season 4. Otherwise, what kind of redemption arc will this man have? This shit is hurtful to the BIPOC characters and BIPOC viewers of this show in no small part because white men the world over have a LONG history of using BIPOC people as a means of production and as a means of production alone. If you're unsure about this, please go look up the Transatlantic slave trade. Please go look up the history of colonial indentured labour. Please go look up The British East India Company. Please look up the forced labour regime in the modern prison industrial complex. Please go read a fucking book. And no I'm not saying Carmy is responsible for the slave trade (LMAO please hold fire if this is where your mind is going). I'm saying BIPOC folks carry with us a long ass history, an intergenerational history of this shit. But guess who else does too? White folks. So don't act like they dont.
This shit is also hurtful because we know how respectful Carmy can be. We’ve seen him in seasons 1 & 2. We know he knows what being a practical ally looks like (even if he may not have the language to name what he was doing) when he made sure to bring the staff of The Beef with him to The Bear and invested in them accordingly. We know he loves and respects them, none more so than Sydney. But there were so many times where he did not act like it in season 3. And when folks have got histories - not just personal but cultural too - as long and as loaded as we ALL do, actions account for a lot. What you do is the shorthand for who you are in the world, whether you like it or not.
Ok back to the scene.
Who comes in and simultaneously saves Carmy's ass and ANOTHER of his relationships? Who protects Tina and keeps the kitchen from exploding AGAIN?
Tumblr media
Who supervises her sous chef like a fucking pro?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sydney. Sydney. Sydney.
And who knows that he's in the presence of greatness but doesn't know how to articulate it cos he's not integrated, not by a fucking long shot. Who needs to attend some anti-racism training along with Al-Anon and therapy (so he can get the benefit of understanding his role in this system and get a better understanding of his own mind)?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah you Carmen, you.
Tumblr media
Better get on that shit before you lose the woman who is the beat to your whole heart another means of production to a chef who's going to pay her better, give Syd insurance from the jump and total creative control. Just saying.

Edith Garrud - The suffragette that knew martial arts
The first British female teacher of jujutsu, Edith Garrud (1872-1971) taught the suffragettes to protect themselves.
A passion for martial arts
Edith Margaret Williams was born in Bath in 1872 and started her career as a physical instructor for girls. She shared this passion for physical culture with her husband, William Garrud, a wrestling and boxing instructor.
They came in contact with Edward Barton-Wright who had spent three years in Japan, and studied judo and jujutsu. He elaborated his self-defense techniques known as “bartitsu” and opened his club in London in 1899.
The Bartitsu Club was notably opened to women. Edith was thus able to train alongside her husband. By 1908, Edith and William became jujutsu instructors themselves with William in charge of the men’s class and Edith teaching the women and children.
Jujutsu specializes in speed, precision and the use of soft, flowing movements to deal with aggression rather than using just brute strength. The couple showcased their skills through demonstrations. In one of them, Edith defeated a male aggressor played by her husband. The sight of this 4ft-11inch (150cm) woman effortlessly throwing a much taller man greatly impressed the audience.
In 1907, Edith starred in a short film Jujutsu down the footpads in which an innocent lady overpowers two ruffians.
Vote for women
Edith took an interest in the cause of women’s suffrage. In 1909, she was invited by the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) to give a demonstration in the presence of Emeline Pankhurst and other leading figures of the movement. As William was ill, Edith demonstrated alone and invited members of the audience to test her skills. This included subjecting a skeptical police officer to a powerful shoulder throw.
In 1910, Edith also wrote a series of essays, advocating for the growing community of female martial artists and how self-defense could free women by giving them the means to protect themselves:
“You constantly read in the papers reports of dastardly attacks on helpless women by thieves and ruffians. A woman who knows jujutsu, even though she may not be physically strong, even though she may not have even an umbrella or parasol, is not helpless. I know many women personally who have tried the tricks I shall explain to you and come out on top. They have brought great burly cowards nearly twice their size to their feet and made them howl for mercy.”
The bodyguards
The suffragettes faced dangerous and violent situations. This was especially the case on Friday 18th November 1910. 300 WSPU members marched on the House of Parliament and faced police officers armed with batons. Women were subjected to six hours of beatings and arrests and there were widespread reports of sexual abuses.
Emeline Pankhurst thus asked Edith to train a group of women that would be known within the WSPU as the Bodyguard. Led by Gertrude Harding, they acted as agitators, disruptors and decoys.
Edith trained them in hand-to-hand combat and the use of homemade concealed weapons such as wooden India clubs and the fashioning of cardboard body armor. The suffragettes took advantage of their opponent's surprise and exploited their weaknesses.
They for instance struck directly at a police officer’s helmet to knock it from his head. Policemen were held accountable for the loss of uniform items and had to pay for their replacement. They cut the suspenders so that the policeman had to hold back his pants, blinded the police with a charge of umbrellas etc.
When told by a policeman that she was making an “obstruction” during a demonstration near the House of Commons, Edith pretended to drop her handkerchief, threw the policeman over her shoulder and disappeared into the crowd.
Tumblr media
In prison, suffragettes went on hunger strikes and were subjected to force-feeding. The “Cat and Mouse Act” of 1913 allowed hunger-striking prisoners to be released and then re-incarcerated as soon as they had recovered their health. The Bodyguard thus protected and hid those women.
Edith for instance hid militant suffragettes in her dojo, telling the police not to disturb her lessons and leave her property.
A quiet retirement
Edith’s contributions to the suffragist movement ended with the beginning of the First World War. Little is known of her life afterward.
She and her husband would run the Golden Square dojo until their retirement in 1925 and retired to a quieter life. William passed away in 1960. In an interview in 1965, Edith said that her recipe for a long, happy and healthy life was:
“Self-discipline. Of course, I had to be extremely disciplined to succeed at jujutsu and hold my own with men […] but it is the mind which really has control, not only of your muscles and your limbs and how you use them, but also your thoughts, your whole attitude to life and other people.”
She died in 1971. A plaque on the building that had been her home can be seen today: “Edith Garrud 1872–1971. The suffragette who knew jiu-jitsu lived here”.

A Simple Guide to Introverts: How to embrace yourself
It seems like everyone is an extrovert these days. The way we do things has changed drastically and it's easy to feel left out or misunderstood. Thankfully, introverts have never been more accepted than they are right now. In this post, we'll go over the basics of introverts, how to embrace yourself and your needs as an introvert, and ways in which you can be more comfortable in any situation that makes you feel stressed or anxious.
The first step to accepting yourself is identifying your traits
The first step to accepting yourself is identifying your traits. If you don’t know what they are, how will you be able to embrace them? You can start by making a list of your strengths and weaknesses.
The second step is understanding that introversion is not a disorder but rather a personality trait. You might also want to look into Carl Jung’s theory on introversion vs extraversion. This theory states that everyone has both tendencies in their personality; some people lean more towards one than the other (although most people have equal amounts).
Build a community of people you love and trust
When you're feeling like the world is against you, it's important to keep a network of people who know and understand you. You may not want them to be your only support system all the time, but they can help remind you that there's a whole world out there worth living in.
If you don't already have one, consider creating a group chat with some friends who know and accept who you are as an introvert—these people can provide a sense of security for when times get tough. Plus, just knowing that others have similar interests (like playing board games or watching movies on Netflix) can make all the difference in getting through those first few days at college or work when everything feels unfamiliar and scary.
Don't get your energy from big groups of people
As an introvert, you need to recharge your energy from time to time. But if you're not sure how to tell when you're running low, the following signs will help:
●      You feel exhausted or drained
●      You have difficulty concentrating or focusing on one task at a time
●      You feel like your mind is racing, with lots of thoughts going through it at once
Learn when to say no
Saying no is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself. You should never feel bad about turning down something that doesn’t make you happy or drains your energy.
Learn when to say no, and know that it’s okay if others are disappointed by your decision. Just remember: You are not responsible for making other people happy, or even keeping them around in your life if they aren't a good fit for who you wish to be.
Say “no thank you” when someone asks if they can borrow something of yours—even if it means saying goodbye forever! If someone wants something from me, I always ask myself: “Is this person worth my time? Is their request beneficial to me? Am I going to get anything out of this relationship? Will our friendship survive once this thing has been returned? If the answer is no… then don't give them what they want!
Be patient with yourself
You can be yourself, and still be a good person. That’s what makes you so special!
Don’t feel like you have to be the life of the party every time you go to one. Being an introvert can help you enjoy parties even more by making it easier for you to talk with people when they approach you rather than having to find them first (or at all). Plus, if someone is approaching you because they want your attention, then that means they must think highly of your company!
Conclusion
The best thing you can do is to accept yourself, and know that it’s okay if you need some extra time. You’re not alone, and introverts are not broken. If this blog has helped you in anyway, please share it with someone else who might benefit from reading it!
If you are feeling stressed and want to better yourself, then why not register for the best online spiritual courses with ReigniteYou. With the ReigniteYou personality development course online you can reinvent yourself into a better version of yourself. So why wait, get in touch and start your journey to betterment.

Building Leaders: Best Practices in Leadership Development Programs in India
In today's dynamic and fast-paced business environment, the need for effective leaders has never been greater. To foster the next generation of corporate leaders, Indian companies are becoming aware of the importance of significant investments in leadership development programs. Organizations can ensure that their manager leadership development programs have a lasting impact by emphasizing cutting-edge tactics and industry best practices.
The Importance of Leadership Development Programs in India
Leadership development programs in India are developed to give managers the skills and knowledge required to effectively manage teams, make strategic choices, and drive their organizations forward. Fostering a culture of constant learning, adaptability, and resilience is the goal of these programs rather than just sharing theoretical knowledge.
Best Practices in Leadership Development Programs
1. Customized Learning Paths
Since every business is different, a one-size-fits-all approach to leadership development often proves fruitless. Leading Indian organizations have tailored their programs to cater to individual development needs in addition to particular company goals. They ensure the effectiveness and relevance of the leadership development program by carrying out comprehensive assessments and matching training goals with corporate plans.
2. Blended Learning Models
A method of blended learning has grown exponentially popular. It combines traditional classroom instruction with online resources. This approach provides flexibility, letting managers take their time learning and still gain from face-to-face, interactive sessions. Among the resources utilized to improve the learning process are virtual simulations, webinars, and online modules.
3. Experiential Learning
The basis for several effective leadership development programs in India is experiential learning. Through practical projects, real-world problem-solving, and role-playing activities, managers may hone their abilities in a secure setting. Learners can hone the critical thinking and decision-making skills necessary for effective leadership by simulating real-life scenarios.
4. Mentorship and Coaching
A successful leadership development program for managers requires both coaching and mentoring. Emerging leaders can receive essential coaching and support from experienced leaders in the company to help them navigate their career paths and overcome obstacles. To promote a culture of constant growth, regular coaching sessions, feedback loops, and development plans are essential parts of this approach.
5. Focus on Soft Skills
Soft skills like communication, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution are just as vital for effective leadership as technical skills. These abilities are being highlighted more and more in leadership development programs in India, where they help managers build strong, cohesive teams and cultivate a pleasant workplace culture.
6. Measuring Impact
Measuring the effects of leadership training programs is essential for ensuring their success. Businesses use a range of metrics, such as company performance indicators, leadership effectiveness ratings, and staff engagement scores, to evaluate the success of their programs. Organizations can improve their programs and achieve better outcomes by using continuous feedback and evaluation processes.
In conclusion, training effective leaders requires a methodical and thorough approach to leadership training. Through the implementation of best practices including personalized learning pathways, blended learning models, experiential learning, mentorship, and a concentration on soft skills, Indian organizations can ensure the success of their leadership training programs for managers. These initiatives will be crucial in influencing organizational excellence and the direction of leadership in India as they develop further.

We've Had Witches and Pirates, Yes. But What About SPIES?
Tumblr media
India Holton as an author has, with three books, become an author who I will read everything she ever writes. The writing style is cheeky and fun and beautiful, and the characters never fail to be engaging and captivating to watch. The first two books also quietly critiques institutions and what it means to be inside and outside of such organizations. This book takes that to a WHOLE other level thanks to the James Bond spoof we're in the midst of. This book also includes neurodivergent leads--Holton has confirmed that both Alice and Daniel are autistic. Overall, the way this book handles romance, sex, and institutions is nuanced and heartbreakingly good. So let's talk The Secret Service of Tea and Treason.
Hey, so...SPOILER WARNING. I'm going to spoil the ever loving hell out of this book. Either read it before continuing or be cool with SPOILERS.
This is a also a CONTENT WARNING for minor mentions of child physical abuse and an organization putting neurodivergent children and adults in arguably abusive situations.
Agents A and B are the top performers of A.U.N.T., and they both secretly imagine their rivals throughout their careers. Those constructs go straight down the drain when Alice (Agent A) and Daniel (Agent B) are assigned to pretend to be married infiltrate the Bassingthwaite historical flying battle manor to thwart an assassination attempt against Queen Victoria.
The megaweapon that the agency was concerned about ends up being a nonstarter/red herring for this universe's version of Q going full-on supervillain (I told you I was going to spoil the end), which actually ends up being VERY funny. You really shouldn't piss off your weapons expert/inventor, because if you do, then when your top two agents apprehend him, you have to give him a medal and a raise. At which point your top agents realize you're a garbage organization and defect, taking a bunch of other agents with them.
This book is EXPLICITLY clear that A.U.N.T. is not a good or even benign organization. It is deeply controlling, toxic, and super unkind to its neurodivergent trainees. Daniel was treated like a bomb that would explode if handled wrong. He is so used to armed men pointing guns at him during situations that his superiors even *think* could get heated that he barely registers them. His life is literally under threat every time his superiors put him in a situation in which he might have an emotional reaction that they feel is inappropriate. Their feelings, mind, not his reality. And there is QUITE the gap between those things.
Alice arguably had it even worse; she was regularly beaten as a child and during her training any time she became overwhelmed, froze, lashed out, or had someone violate her sensory boundaries and she reacted with the full force of her martial training.
So A.U.N.T. is objectively THE WORST at accommodating neurodivergence even as they benefit from Alice and Daniel's skills. That kind of toxic, abusive, and exploitative relationship with an organization is heartbreaking. However, as Alice and Daniel's mission and romance progresses, they gain more perspective on each others' pasts, which allows them to support each other in leaving the organization. Neither could really process or acknowledge how they had personally been treated, but they both know that they cannot stand how the other had been treated. With each other's support, and the support of their friends, Alice and Daniel get to go live happily without bosses who treat them as less than human.
Interpersonally, Alice and Daniel have an absolutely adorable romance. What I found really interesting and really wonderful, though, was how communication and needs were handled. Alice's sensory needs mean that soft touches are a hard no for her. And for most of her adult life, that has meant that after the first try, people have simply stopped trying to engage physically with her. Alice at one point explicitly thinks that people prefer to simply leave her untouched rather than trying to do the work to help her engage in sex in a way that is safe for her. And that is shatteringly common even today; people have weird preconceived notions of what sex "should" be, and if someone does not enjoy or cannot safely engage in those "shoulds," then they "should not" have sex at all. Which is patently ridiculous. Alice and Daniel actually HAVE the conversation about Alice's needs and wants, and they work together to make sure that they both can safely and enjoyably engage in sex.
I read this after watching season 3 of Bridgerton, and after watching Prudence just NOT ENJOY anything about sex or physical intimacy (but being pressured into doing both anyway), I was SO GRATEFUL that there was consent, accommodation, and everyone involved actually enjoying themselves in this book. I would MUCH rather watch two characters actually have the conversations about how to make sex work for them than watch a female character be forced into sex she does not want to have.
I also appreciated that this book acknowledged that people have weirdly specific preconceived notions about sex and who can/should have what kind(s) of it while also going out of its way to say "no, actually, people should have adult discussions about this and figure out the way that works safely, consensually, and enjoyably for them." This feels vanishingly rare in the here and now, and I adore when books do things like this.
Like the first two Dangerous Damsel books, the writing style in this book was PURE DELIGHT. I literally cannot let that go without saying, because with the rise of GenAI and some publishers trying to replace real authors with AI, I feel it's even more important to highlight it when a writer has a unique style, clear voice, and significantly above-average grasp on language. Especially in popular and romance books, because people tend to use those descriptions to describe literary fiction on the regular--but not all of us WANT to read literary fiction. And those of us who enjoy popular genres deserve to have competent writing from real humans!!! India Holton is just a phenomenal writer, and I will never not recommend her on the strength of that.
Beyond that, we also get more pirate and witch shenanagins, and that's never not a blast.
Overall, this trilogy ended strong, and I cannot recommend the Dangerous Damsels enough.
