In this world where social identity is one of the greatest forms of currency, it’s been ingrained into me since childhood that I needed to have a way to profit of my image. My personality. My very being.
I grew up in the early 2000’s, when giving personal information out online was still taboo, and I’ve never lost that fear of sharing information. Or maybe I’m just not willing to let people know me. The “mortifying ordeal,” and all that.
Even before the age of Instagram influencers, YouTube celebrities, and tiktok accounts rocketing to viral stardom within hours only to fade back into obscurity within months, even before this, it was ingrained into children that they needed to have that “niche”.
That sweet spot where they excelled. Where no one was better than them. That intrinsic part of their identity that would give them a leg up when having to complete against a dozen other candidates just for an entry level job.
Except now we’re competing against dozens of others. Hundreds, even. And a single niche isn’t enough.
There’s this feeling that we all need to carve out the most unique, most special spot for ourselves. The more labels and identities and hobbies and special skills and unique facts we can collect, well, the better chance we’d have of being seen, of being heard.
We all just want to be seen.
We all want our experiences to matter.
And it can feel impossible to achieve that in our massive communities and the overwhelming cacophony of noise on social media.
I don’t have an answer on what to do here. I wish I did. I’d like to say that I’m unaffected by this pressure. That I can overcome it– but with the message that we as individuals constantly need to market ourselves being thrown out all over the place, coming to us from social media, tv, magazines, newspapers, and even grocery stores– how can anyone not be weighed down by it all?

thinking about a Damian who was raised his entire life hearing how much he looks like his Father, how he's the blood son, how he's better than any other child Bruce Wayne has taken in, starting to buy into it like a kid does, only to hit puberty and turn out looking like 80% Talia.

Social Currency.
Found in some social media post. The great Chimpanzee Civilization, which exists on another timeline in another universe somewhere, is an interesting place to explore. They figured out how to cultivate their own bananas during the agricultural revolution, which was a pretty big deal. Soon there were different types of bananas, and soon the chimps figured out that bananas were power. Of course,…

so here's the thing
using inflation calculators to try and figure out the value of a given currency amount in today's money, if it was before like the mid-20th century, is basically useless
a lot more went into buying power than that
I discovered this when I plugged the priced of a dressed 1860s French fashion doll, from adverts, into one of those calculators and got a year's wages for a middle-class French worker
and then looked up "Paris doll" on Google Books in the same era (the name for those dolls in English) and they were basically talked about like American Girl dolls are today- expensive, but a middle-class kid might easily still have one as their Very Special Doll. something is Amiss there
don't trust the calculators. try to find a price equivalent within the era for something that has meaning, value-wise, to a modern audience. I can't tell you what a French fashion doll would cost in modern dollars, but they occupied the same economic niche as an American Girl doll, and people can understand that today. a second-class ticket on Titanic cost about 1/32nd as much as a 1912 Sears kit home, so a fraction of the price of a very cheap DIY house- people can probably understand that, too
(edited to fix a bad calculation on my part- my brain is square tonight)

On the one hand I do not want to make a video recounting the story of how me and my childhood best friend broke up, for a number of reasons including not wanting to dredge up old drama.
On the other, I broke up with my best friend of 12+ years over deviantArt llamas, and after having ~15 years to emotionally recover from that incident, the story is so fucking funny.

hiii sergle do you have any thoughts on the 2nd try try guys thing? curious to hear your opinion!!
i'm so glad you asked bc i love giving my opinion..... first things first, this is REALLY FUCKING FUNNY, the way that Watcher fumbled the bag so badly when they made their announcement probably gave the tryguys a lot of data to work with. obviously everyone is comparing the two things, but in this instance, I actually think the streaming service thing makes more sense, and is done in a better way, with less guilt tripping and more like, Hype. so the most relevant thing, nothing about the youtube channel is going to change, no previously free content is going to be paywalled, new videos are going to keep airing. so somebody who missed the news or isn't inch rested isn't going to have a different experience at all. new shows are going to be on there, but also they're Already On There. like, a lot of episodes. stuff is going to be released earlier on there, uncensored videos, new people showing up (tryguys already has a lot of Talent), and live ticketed events that they normally charge for are gonna be included in the subscription. so like, this sounds justifiable as a thing that you'd Pay For. Watcher was going to put their whole back catalog behind a paywall, they only had a couple of shows plus One New Steven Food Show that was gonna go on their streaming thing, and they were going to stop posting to youtube except for the first episode from each new season of a thing. and the Watcher one was still priced a dollar higher. and they have a very small cast of talent. also, it was a Streaming Service, but it was still something you could only watch in a browser, not on a TV or anything. so it was just a website. the one that tryguys have is actually an app you can have on your tv. like on a roku or whatever. so I think that's another point in its favor. you can't launch a "streaming service" that you can't even watch on your tv.
overall, I think it tracks, they've been a business for a lot longer and they've started a bunch of new shows to go on there, the announcement video wasn't Whiny and Guilt Trippy, it seems like they put more thought into this. also I got a free trial to poke around, which, I do like that that's an option. timing could have been better, some people are being pussies about it in a major way, which is to be expected, and I am basically ambivalent to it, I don't plan on paying, but it seems like it's had a lot more thought put into it, and it could actually be sustainable as a platform running alongside their youtube channel. done correctly, it could be their Mythical Society. if it flops, they aren't alienating their youtube audience.

Something I'm unreasonably fond of in the Happy Day in hell reprise are these changed lines
"To change their minds and touch their hearts, or whatever angels have" ->
"you've changed my mind, you've touched their hearts, found the good in souls gone bad"
Sung by Lucifer, who would know, sneakily avoiding saying whether angels have hearts or not
I was just so ready for the potential of fucked up angel biology to be dropped that I was pleasantly surprised when it stayed ambiguous; no idea if it was even intentional tho
I really do hope something interesting is done with the heavenborn and they aren't just people with wings. Hell's world building has been pretty good about giving different species different cultures and world views I have hope

big fan of the john wick movies so far. first of all i'm delighted by how the whole series feels like a chance to explore the world that the writers built in the first one. second of all yes most of the movies are killing and the consequences of cruelty and the cycle of violence but more importantly than all that the movies are actually about kindness and connection and the ways that people love each other and choose to help each other again and again. and also about how much people love their fucking dogs.

How this social currency card is helping influencers.
Introduction:
In today's digital landscape, influencers wield considerable power in shaping trends, opinions, and consumer behaviors. They are modern-day tastemakers who leverage their social media presence to connect with audiences and influence purchasing decisions. To further empower these influencers, Wyld introduces the innovative concept of the Social Currency Card. Let's explore how this revolutionary tool is transforming the influencer game.
1. Amplifying Authenticity:
The Social Currency Card encourages influencers to stay true to their authentic selves. By rewarding genuine engagement and meaningful content, it incentivizes authenticity over superficial metrics like follower count. This shift promotes more sincere connections between influencers and their followers.
2. Fostering Genuine Relationships:
In the world of influencer marketing, relationships are key. The Social Currency Card promotes deeper connections by encouraging influencers to interact with their audience on a more personal level. This fosters trust, loyalty, and lasting partnerships.
3. Valuing Impact Over Numbers:
Traditionally, influencer success was measured solely by follower counts and likes. With the Social Currency Card, the focus shifts to the impact an influencer has on their audience. It recognizes influencers who inspire, educate, or entertain, regardless of their follower size.
4. Incentivizing Positive Engagement:
Social media can sometimes be a breeding ground for negativity. The Social Currency Card flips the script by rewarding influencers for spreading positivity and engaging constructively with their community. This not only benefits influencers but also contributes to a healthier online environment.
5. Encouraging Sustainability:
Influencers often face burnout from the relentless pursuit of likes and followers. The Social Currency Card encourages sustainable practices by rewarding consistent, quality content creation rather than excessive posting or content that compromises an influencer's well-being.
6. Bridging the Gap with Brands:
The Social Currency Card is a bridge between influencers and brands that value genuine connections. It helps brands identify influencers who align with their values and messaging, fostering more meaningful and effective collaborations.
7. Empowering Emerging Voices:
This innovative approach allows emerging influencers with smaller followings but significant impact to shine. It levels the playing field, offering them opportunities and recognition alongside established influencers.
Conclusion:
The Social Currency Card by Wyld is revolutionizing the influencer landscape by shifting the focus from vanity metrics to authenticity and impact. It empowers influencers to build genuine relationships, fosters positive engagement, and encourages sustainable practices. This new paradigm not only benefits influencers but also enhances the quality of content and connections in the digital realm. Wyld's Social Currency Card is a game-changer that is redefining the way we perceive and reward influence in the digital age. Join the movement and unlock your true social currency today!

Do you all think that Normals yearbook club that recapped the yearbooks of the past just covered what was in the book or was he trying to get the extra drama too by consulting PPL who were in highschool that year and reading b/w the lines?
Then I would have died to join the club because it would be so entertaining.
Do you think he would have covered the last year's yearbook every year as a back to school special so new kids wouldn't feel like an outsider? And to find good parts of school where he wasn't shunned?
He would redo the last year one everytime a new kid joined mid-year?
Do you think he has done yearbook recaps of the years the kiddads were in highschool and interrogated each of them and their classmates (except Nicky, maybe he got Nickys scoop later but idk if he covered what he got from him in the club). So he knows way too much about their mundane shenanigans and that makes them uncomfy in a way idk

Are you serious the next guy did an anti sexual predator hero? What the fuck is going on in India?
Oh my God, so they had to make up fake superheroes and this person picks a sexually traumatized victim who gets revenge. That's definitely not revealing.
