update: sfp show no mercy, darby allin vs jungle boy (february 24 2019)
good news! i have exactly one minute of this match thanks to begging my girlfriend on my hands and knees and it looks.. well, exactly how i expected it to look LOL but nonetheless, it's a step closer to finding the whole thing
i'm not sure if this has been uploaded onto the internet yet but i thought i'd leave a little update because i quite literally have been laying on my floor and staring at the ceiling trying to understand how my GIRLFRIEND from NEW YORK happened to be in CALIFORNIA that week with her cousin specifically the night of this match when she was a fan of NEITHER of them. the fact that she never brought this up until earlier this week is driving me insane because she saw brody king here too ????
she also said she remembers jack getting thrown off the stage at some point which is killing me because that's a Darby Thing
anyway she has a few videos we're trying to grab off the cloud (not the full match unfortunately but maybe if we can get ahold of her cousin) and i think this one was taken by either her or her cousin, we're not sure yet because it was such a long time ago
i found her cousins twitter so i'm going to go bug him until he responds. either that or i'm sucking the match out of his brain with a straw the next time i see him
also. um. the way darby smiles when jack picks up the kendo stick has altered my brain chemistry by the way. why did he look at him like that. i'm gonna die jesus christ

ok yall heres my thoughts for a potential olympics au.
price boxes. 100 percent. no clue why but he just has the Vibes. it’s definitely not his first olympics. he’s getting close to retiring from the olympics (which no is not an old man joke, they genuinely just have a very small age window to be like in their prime to compete. simone biles is 27 and she’s considered on the older side for olympic athletes).
gaz does gymnastics. look at him man he just looks like a gymnast. it’s his first olympics and while he’s not really an underdog he’s not very well known. he is however definitely getting the stephen nedoroscik treatment (immediately becoming the country’s sweetheart, having tons of fan edits, etc).
soap plays soccer (IT’S CALLED SOCCER 🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸) as a goalie and again, scotland’s sweetheart. they eat him UP. i mean look at him why wouldn’t they. he and gaz become immediate friends in the village and post online together. they make jokes on tiktok about getting freaky on the cardboard beds (ilona maher and nicole heavirland style) and no one ever shuts up about it. he’s new to the olympics as well.
ghost plays rugby because he’s massive and angry. i feel like this is his second olympics and he’s lowkey still mad his team lost last time but he’s pretending not to be 😭 he doesnt participate much in the dicking around, but since he, price, and gaz are all team england he gets spotted in some of the online shenanigans (can u tell i pay more attention to the athletes goofing off online than the actual games)
farah i feel does beach volleyball. shes tall (5’8” which is crazy because she looks SHORT next to some of the other characters) so good for volleyball, and i’d imagine urzikstan’s team would unfortunately be pretty small considering. yk. so they might only have enough athletes for beach volleyball since it only requires 2 players. im imagining this to be set in a world where farah wasn’t leading the ulf but the occupation and stuff still happened, but it’s over and urzikstan is slowly healing again. throughout the competition farah is very vocal about her pride for her country and she talks about her brother and parents, and says that she’s competing in honor of them. she also becomes one of those athletes that everyone roots for no matter where theyre from, simply because of a) how good she is, and b) the way she speaks about her family and her country, and how emotional it makes people.
alex surfs. look at that man and tell me he doesnt surf. i know we agreed he’s from some podunk midwest town but i can also totally imagine him being from like socal and being the most doofy surfer dude. he meets farah in the olympic village and is immediately infatuated. also i feel like he would have an obsession with one of the foods there like that norwegian swimmer with his chocolate muffins and post about it online.
(again can yall tell i pay more attention to the athletes dicking around on tiktok than the sports)
i wanna say rudy and alejandro both do equestrian because yk. vaqueros. but i cant tell if it’s too on the nose. let me know ur thoughts.
laswell does archery. i believe its one of the sports that is more likely to have “older” athletes (although i could be wrong) and i imagine laswell is like 45 ish. lesbians love her. this is not her first rodeo she has olympic’d before. people see her talking to alex on the boat during the opening ceremony and theyre like “is she his mom or smth wtf???” bc they look similar and they eventually just lean into it. like yeah this is my mom she’s like 7 years older than me. dont think about it too hard the numbers make sense. i swear.
könig wrestles because he’s massive. i fear booktok gooners would obsess over him and it would simultaneously give him a huge ego boost but also make him deeply uncomfortable. he’s a good wrestler tho so he toughs it out 😭 the gooners see him without the doofy little wrestler cap for the first time, realize he’s fugly, and move on. he can live in peace again.
horangi does shooting because i keep seeing that hot korean shooter kim yeji everywhere and shes so cool. also bc horangi is in the military in game so um. yeah. dude is cool as fuck and he knows it.

No matter what these two men; Matthew and Nicholas, accomplish. Overcome. Get through. Or even create, they will still be hated, overlooked, and discredited. And it breaks my heart. Two SoCal kids who came from nothing and became legends along with creating such a change — such a revolution in pro wrestling deserve their damn flowers. Even if I wasn’t a fan (Which I obviously am), I’d still give them the credit that they so rightfully deserve. Hate em? Love em? Indifferent? Doesn’t matter — put some respect on their names for once.
It took balls to step outside of what was considered the “norm” in pro wrestling, with the risk of being blacklisted, and they did it! They changed the game and are the best damn tag team out there.
I said what I said.

SATURDAY SALUTATIONS
I’m getting closer to getting ready to go. There’s still a little bit to do around the house but it’s pretty much done. I got some of Kitten’s clothes packed up last night along with some of my camping gear.
Today I’ve got some trash to toss and then a day at the cat shelter. Maybe a little more packing. Maybe a lot. I don’t know.
Tomorrow I’ll do laundry and get the car packed so I can pull out before fucking SoCal Edison closes our road Monday morning. Fuckers.
The cats are thrilled with the housecleaning and packing I’ve done. They have new space to wrestle and explore and do cat stuff. For me this has been an exhausting week, for them it’s been an adventure.
Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for more coffee.
I love you, baby. Six more days...
Y’all have a great weekend.

CORE presents The Co-Op 2023 - Update #02
In this second update, we will announce the cards for night two of the CORE Co-Op 2023 taking place on March 31st 2023 from the Pico Union Project in Los Angeles, California. Updates and full card announcements for our events on April 1st and April 2nd will follow.
March 31st
Johnny Ace's Dynamic Dames
Legendary pro-wrestler and wrestling executive Johnny Ace will exclusively be appearing at The Co-Op during wrestling’s biggest weekend. As the man that laid the foundation for the “women’s revolution,” Johnny Ace presents his handpicked all women’s wrestling card filled with both current and future stars.
In the opening match SoCal independent wrestling standout Johnnie Robbie goes toe-to-toe with a mysterious new wrestler managed by UltraMantis Black known only as Giant Baba Yaga.
A veteran of many classic six man tag team battles in the rings of All Japan Pro-Wrestling, Johnny Ace put together this special six man tag match when Kenzie Paige and Billie Starkz will team with Kenzie’s little sister Kylie Paige to take on the very formidable team of Kamille, KiLynn King, and Ashley D’Amboise.
Next up, representing the Jericho Appreciation Society, Anna Jay and Tay Melo will do battle with CMLL’s Stephanie Vaquer and Gatoh Move’s Mei Suruga. Both very promising young wrestlers, Vaquer and Suruga teamed together previously during Mei’s tour for the CMLL promotion in the fall of 2022.
The following match will see AAA’s Sexy Star square off against joshi wrestling freelancer Unagi Sayaka. Since departing STARDOM and entering what she calls her “gyan period,” Unagi Sayaka has taken her talents around the Japanese independent wrestling scene with renewed intensity and focus, and will look to do the same in America.
In a rare singles match between these two Wrestle Universe competitors, Saki Akai will face off with Yuki Kamifuku in our semi-main event.
And in the main event, the next chapter will be written in the rivalry between Athena and “The Magical Girl” Yuka Sakazaki as Athena will team with Raychell Rose to take on the team of Yuka Sakazaki and Mizuki, better known to TJPW fans as the Magical Sugar Rabbits.
Johnny Ace's Dynamic Dames 01. Johnnie Robbie vs. Giant Baba Yaga (with UltraMantis Black) 02. Kenzie Paige, Billie Starkz, and Kylie Paige vs. Kamille, KiLynn King, and Ashley D'Amboise 03. The JUST TAP OUT trio of Aoi, Misa Kagura, and Sumika Yanagawa will be across the ring from CORE representatives Athena and Raychell Rose as they team with their new associate Queen Aminata.
Also in trios action, a team of three top JTO prospects, Ren Ayabe, Fire Katsumi, and Akira Juumonji will face the imposing challenge of the 2022 CORE Trios Kingdom champions The Last Wave; Josh Alexander, Titus Alexander, and Mr. Takeshita.

In the opener, Global Force Wrestling faces off with Impact Wrestling as the team of Fallah Bahh, KM, and Pat Buck go at it with The Design faction of Deaner, Angels, and Kon.
In the second match, The Toy Boyz of Matt Cardona and Brian Myers take on The Bollywood Boyz of Gurv Sihra and Harv Sihra.
Mixed six-man tag team action as The Butcher, The Blade, and The Bunny meet Nick Aldis, Chris Adonis, and Mickie James.
Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and the giant Satnam Singh will try to put a stop to the Time Machine, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, and KUSHIDA.
Next up will be the Gauntlet For The Global Force Gold Battle Royal where the winner will receive 100 Karatbars of Global Force Gold! Jeff Jarrett guaranteed that not only would this easily be the best battle royal of the weekend, it would be the best battle royal in the history of these marquee wrestling weekends.
And in our main event, a re-match over a year in the making that fans never thought they would see. Jeff Jarrett vs. Effy II.

Right Place, Right Time - SoCal Indie Wrestling
About those T Shirts Mr. Profesional wore in 'Los Campeones de La Lucha Libre'…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Relocating to Los Angeles in 2003 for season 2 of Mucha Lucha! had a lot of pluses, one being that we were closer to Mexico and actual lucha libre! And we took advantage of that, seeing some great matches in Tijuana and Mexico City. Plus the big Mexican stars would also wrestle in LA for local promotions such as FMLL.
But there was also an amazing home-grown indie wrestling scene in Southern California that took elements of lucha libre and blended them into something equally exciting. Raw and no frills, you couldn't help getting caught up in the excitement.
Tumblr media
Revolution Pro was the first of these indie companies that we experienced. The matches were usually WAY east at a swap meet in the City Of Industry. We'd trundle out there every other Saturday and see some great events.
Tumblr media
This Mask Vs Mask match was off the charts.  We actually dragged our director, Ken Kessel (and his family!) out there for it.  If you were only ever going to see one match live in your life, this was it!  Super Dragon (remember that name) ended up winning and unmasking his former partner, Taro.  I remember Ken taking lots of pictures with his decidedly pro-fesh-un-al camera, but unfortunately never got to see any :(
Rev Pro used to alternate with AWS at the same venue, who used a lot of the same wrestlers, but AWS would also fly luchadores in from Mexico sometimes.  Pretty soon, Rev Pro phased out and AWS ran most of the shows there.
But some of the mainstays from Rev Pro were soon to debut a new promotion, Pro Wrestling Guerilla, or PWG.  And PWG was just awesome.
Tumblr media
Holding events at the Jewish Community Centre in Los Feliz may sound a bit hokey on paper, but this little venue was perfect.  It was, hot, sweaty and always packed. Plus it was a five minute walk from where we lived!  We were fortunate to see some amazing talent before they became huge stars.  Kevin Steen and El Generico - who were to become WWE Superstars Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn respectively, AJ Styles later of WWE, The Human Tornado, Samoa Joe...and to us the most interesting of all, Super Dragon, who worked a fast, stiff, brutal style with high risk lucha-stye moves thrown in. This clip captures some of the mayhem from the match on the flyer above...
PWG became hugely successful.  So big that it left its little venue in Los Feliz and went onto bigger things.  This was a jumping off point for me personally: Mucha Lucha! had finished, and with the intensity that came with it gone, I needed a break.  I still went to lucha libre events, but there was a shift in SoCal indie wrestling as the wrestlers and promotions either folded, or moved on to bigger things.
But for a time Revolution Pro, AWS and PWG put on one great show after another, and I feel very fortunate I got to be there first hand. Our little tribute was Mr. Profesional's shirts, which also had the purpose of identifying the character's backstory with that indie scene.
Postscript: As talented as anyone in lucha libre/prowrestling, no one knows what happened to Super Dragon,  More about this enigma can be found here:
