Another interim comic! With how small and cramped the bathrooms on the SR2 are, there's no way the SR1 at half its size would have had room for more than a single communal shower room. Turns out Shepard and Garrus both just happen to prefer showering at night.
There's going to be a shorter second part to this one, so expect that once I'm done June's Patreon art.

trying to imagine the toxicity of Paper Street Soap Company soap,
points of consideration:
-the pipes at paper street house are almost certainly corroded. hello lead
-do you suppose they're on city water or a private well? with the second, there's definitely potential groundwater contamination with solvents and heavy metals from the paper mill
-the fat of an animal is where most non-polar contaminants are accumulated — all your chlorinated pesticides, your dioxins and furans, all the POPs (persistent organic pollutants). regardless of the bougieness of the visitors of the liposuction clinic, there's probably some accumulated organic contaminants. however, the process of making tallow may completely remove them — i can't find a good answer, and my gut says it would either completely remove them or hyperconcentrate them
-once they get a garden going, they're actually bioextracting any heavy metals in the soil (of which there are certainly many due to the nearby paper mill. cadmium, arsenic... probably some POPs too but they may break down due to the actions of the plant, bioremediation isn't my speciality) and i believe there's a high likelyhood this would get into the soap, especially if they were adding shredded bits for artsy texture... like with tallow, making essential oils may clear or concentrate these things
-microplastics almost certainly
overall i'd give it a pretty strong: maybe don't rub your hands in it several times a day for an indefinite period of time
plus, if the soap is marketed as moisturizing or deodorizing or "making you smell nice" then it's considered a cosmetic, and as the FDA helpfully says:
"Neither the product nor its ingredients need approval by FDA, except for any color additives it contains. It is your responsibility to make sure your product is safe for consumers when it is used as intended, and to make sure it is properly labeled. You don’t need to register your company or file your product formulations with FDA"
this means if you say your soap is moisturizing or nice smelling, you can avoid it being regulated by the CPSC and having to do lead testing if it will be used by children!
cosmetics (which are often applied to very sensitive skin and right near mucosal membranes) have been shown more and more to have heavy metals, microplastics, and organic contaminants in them, and companies are incentivized to ensure their product is classified as such since it reduces regulation (cost).
so yeah — Tyler Durden's soap is probably bad for you. but just remember, the same rules that would allow him to sell soap made from people and filled with pollutants are those that apply to the very large companies we are forced to implicitly trust our safety with :)
#fight club#nah because homemade soap at least has several purification processes involved#the real horrors lie in makeup i think#yet another reason not to wear it#especially on such sensitive skin and near your mucosal membranes

bro it should not be as inconvenient as it is to get unscented/fragrance-free skincare products. I'm not even talking anything fancy, I mean, like, hand soap and deodorant. Laundry detergent.
Like, I understand other people love scents and that's FINE, just. Can there also be an option for me?
#hello hi i am autistic and have sensitive skin and i am begging for fewer scents#i had to go to whole foods to get unscented hand soap 😑#by elise#i know olfactory is one of the less popular sensory issues to have but we are out here!!!

i have a deep disaffinity to the feel of slime, but i like the visual aesthetic of slimegirls. at the risk of inciting a horny answer, is this the same for you?
yeah pretty much, i don’t mind the feel so much as i hate the feeling of residue on my hands and i absolutely hate hate HATE when my hands have a noticeable smell to them, whether it be pleasant or unpleasant. i think warm slimes are probably less unpleasant to the touch than cold ones but i think that’s a pretty normal thing to feel?
that being said if a slime girl existed and she smelled nice? would. 1000%
#ask#i have that autism superpower of render slime really good at the cost of hate touching most things with slime consistency 👍#i can use scented soap nowadays but when i was younger i heavily preferred scentless soaps for that reason#i still prefer scents that fade fairly quickly!!!#so i usually use like…. vanilla or milk and honey fragrances#still can’t use most lotions!#also i have super sensitive skin anyway. rip

the leftism leaving people's bodies when people have different hygiene habits that are better for their hair/skin/sensory issues
#literally I have never seen people be more uncritically mean than when talking about hygiene#it's ableist as fuck. and also just straight up uninformed about what you actually need to be hygenic#if you like exfoliating every day good for you or whatever but that doesn't make people who don't dirty or in any way unclean#also in specific reference to the post I'm thinking about. people getting mad about bare hands being inefficient and “wasting soap”#are literally just so stupid to me#do you think people are just dumping out soap? is using a couple cents of soap in a wash really worth being judgmental?#like have your preferences. awesome. my skin is so fucking sensitive and I need to treat it that way#I've increased the amount I exfoliate when I started T mostly bc thicker body hair traps sweat and dead skin more#but before that! my habits were the same my whole life and people complimented my skin and smell all the time#anyways done ranting but I didn't want to do this on the post where people were being rude#soupy post
