About Asks (a new sideblog)

Wow holy crap an actual non-art post from me? The world must be ending.

Basically the short of it is that I'm bad at answering asks. In large part this is because I'm horribly reluctant to post anything on this blog that isn't art because I prefer to keep it kind of like a gallery where you can just enjoy the art without having to scroll past a bunch of non-art or repeat posts. I'm also a terminal yapper so any time I answer an ask I inevitably end up with a wall of text and images that I don't want to make people scroll past (Plus I'm awful at replying to messages in general, so all of that combined? Bad!)

So I decided screw it, I'm just going to have a separate blog where I can put the stuff that isn't art! I'm also going to try and use it for sketches, WIPs and stuff that I partially finished before running out of steam. Pretty much all the stuff that I avoid posting on here. Whether I actually keep up with doing that? Unclear, but we'll see.

The new blog is @sharky-speaks and if you've sent me an ask, you can expect to see it answered over there... eventually (I'm still going to be bad at this, I'm sorry 😔)

Asks will still be on for this blog because I don't mind if they get sent here, anons are just going to be off because if I'm answering them on a different blog I'd like to be able to @ the sender so they don't miss the response. Anon asks will still be available at sharky-speaks though!

Also if Tumblr does end up actually dying, you can find me also as Catsharky over on bluesky here. I've yet to post anything cause I've never been fond of how twitter (and now bluesky) functions, but in the event this place gets torpedoed that's where I'll wind up.

Edit: I've started posting my comic backlog on Bluesky after all. Still likely not going to be using it beyond cross posting the comics I put on here, but that's a thing now if you're someone who actively uses Bluesky

This was pretty much my first thought when Amy showed up. I know it probably won't happen but wow it sure is convenient that the game Amy debuted in was the one with the magic rocks that control spacetime...

(I also just like the idea that Stone is significantly more effective than Robotnik and when sufficiently motivated to work against Sonic and gang, he just... wins. Good thing for them then that he wasn't particularly interested in those time powers beyond using them for a Resurreggtion)

My thought process here was that this was only possible because Stone had the exact time and position of Eggman's death down to the millisecond thanks to the livestream, and he wouldn't have been able to do this without that information. So no bringing back Maria, sorry Shadow 😔

Also sorry for putting you in a glue trap Sonic I sure hope that washes out

I love the idea of the Badniks having some amount of personality to them and getting attached to Stone, and the image of them settling on him like a flock of birds wouldn't leave me be.

Happy early Valentines day, have something completely out of my wheelhouse! I wasn't joking in my previous comic, Stobotnik has me in a stranglehold (though as a heads up to anyone who doesn't follow me: I don't expect I'll be making more, I'm sorry 😔This is definitely a one-off)

Going through some old art of mine got me missing doing stylized, cartoony stuff so I thought this would be a good opportunity to push myself to bring some of that back into my life. Unfortunately the universe had it out for this thing and tried to stop me with pneumonia (it failed HAH) and every time I got closer to finishing it, I got struck with a new, more hellish stage of illness. I had 2 other panels I wanted to do for this and just had to tap out early😭

TFW your evil gay uncles think they can fakeout makeout you but one of them is 6 ft+ and wearing bright red.

Still dealing with the pneumonia, or at least I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I coughed so much and so hard that I messed up the muscles in my ribs on one side pretty bad, but by the time I considered that it might be more than a nasty flu I was already past the worst of it. Either way, I'm on the mend 😤

(The Subject Beef thing is a reference to an old Cracked article that's been living in my head rent-free since I read it in highschool, where the author tormented a Sims 3 sim named Subject Beef. If you do end up seeking it out, I recommend using the wayback machine 'cause the site's new formatting breaks the article and eats a bunch of the images. Also it's from 2009, so ymmv with how well the jokes aged)

Was thinking about Deacon yesterday and became possessed by a spectre or perhaps some kind of demon that compelled me to draw this.

This is technically a WIP, I intend to eventually finish the background and colour it properly but I like this version too

So while I'm unlikely to have enough time to get another whole comic out before the new year, I recently got hit by the urge to just draw some random facts about Ember that I'm not sure will ever end up showing up in a comic.

I tend to forget that all of her comic appearances so far have given a pretty shallow idea of what she's really like, so I figured this might be a fun way to flesh her out a bit more.

No idea how many of these I'll end up doing. I have a bunch in mind but I doubt I'll actually get through all of them.

If anyone has anything specific they'd like to know about her, let me know! I can't promise I'll be able to do a piece of art to answer it, but who knows.

I am also planning on answering a bunch of asks some time soon, I just keep getting derailed by other things.

Rewinding back to the Last Light Inn cause I haven't tormented Rolan enough. Ember's got zero shame and no interest in getting dressed before breakfast (she's worked nights for 2 decades so the fact she's awake before noon is a miracle, honestly)

If Rolan didn't owe her big time she would be getting the dressing down (hah) of her life.

Thank you!! You'll be happy to know that I actually have a new comic in the works that I should be done in the next week or so. It's not the next part of the Rolan comic- I'm a fool who thought having fourteen characters in a single page was a reasonable amount and definitely not something that should stop me from putting another ten on the following page and ough- but it is about Ember and Rolan, just at an earlier point in time (cough-Last Light Inn-cough)

Are we still gonna get more of the Rolan comic?

I've gotten a couple of asks about this, so sorry to the other people who asked previously and didn't get a reply!

There is absolutely going to be more! The rest of the Rolan comic is completely written and partly roughed out, and I do intend to see it through to the end. Unfortunately this has been a pretty accurate depiction of how 2024 has been treating me:

I will get back to it, it's just been a case where something had to give and unfortunately my comics wound up being the thing I had to put on the backburner 😭

If anyone is curious, I rambled about what's been up under the cut:

The long and short of it is that early this year my partner and I very suddenly and stressfully went from being part-time to full-time parents, in a house that is not big enough to have a family of 4 living in it full time. We also gained 2 additional pets at the same time, bringing us up to a total of 4 (2 cats, 1 snake and 1 hamster).

While that would make it cramped enough, my partner and I have lost a combined total of 5 family members in the past 3 years, and ignoring the emotional toll, we wound up being responsible for the belongings of three of them. Every time we manage to get our house a little bit cleared out, another person dies and we have to find room for another house's worth of stuff!!!

So I have been hanging on to my sanity by a thread cause it's hard to concentrate on comics when I am stuck working in a room where Fortnite or Minecraft youtubers or worse are all but constantly playing in the background.

On top of all that, all of the windows in our house had to be replaced because they hadn't been updated or well maintained since the place was built and the frames were rotting and growing mold. So we got to spend a couple of months trying to tetris our house into a state where the window company could have room to work last week.

And if that wasn't all enough, my little old man of a cat (who is my baby and largely my responsibility) developed keratitis- which despite all efforts continued to worsen over the last several months-, was diagnosed with diabetes, and finally had to have his eye removed this week. I've discovered new stress responses I didn't even know I had thanks to that, and I've been sick with a hellcold during both this and the window replacement 🙃

I've also been unemployed since December, which is both a blessing and a curse because on one hand I think I probably would have had an actual mental breakdown by now if I'd had to deal with all this while working full time, but on the other hand we can't move until I have a job again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So basically this year has been very AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and I would really love it if whoever is controlling the game of the sims I'm living in would stop putting me in the torment nexus right about now, please and thank you.

Joke's on them though because I'm both a creature of spite and incapable of giving up, so in the words of Disco Elysium, 'Life gets hard but we go on' and we do!!! 😤
