One of the interesting bits of trying to resume working on the game after so long is looking back at my ancient Draft Placeholder versions of an image from 4 yrs ago trying to remember what the hell I meant back then, to hopefully interpret it into some more final (ish..) form of the same thing .. making slow progress lol
#At this point I've decided it's just a consistent design decision to have the sketchy slightly wonky sort of art ghbjj#I simply don't have the digital art skills/tools/patience (mostly that) to do 100% digital things and have a Clean Polished Professional#Neat Looking Perfect Crisp Lines sort of thing like one would see in most games. I'm drawing everything in pencil half decently (not strict#ly making sure every line is straight or that the perspective even makes sense) and then scanning it in and coloring it on the computer#and that's about it. In another world I could hire an artist or two to do professional backgrounds and charcter art or etc. - but as I am#a mere penniless peasant hermit with functioning issues who has to do every aspect of everything themselves - I'm just going to do#what is possible within the time frame/my ability/etc. and then just be like ''ah you see! actually this is intentional~ it has a homemade#crafty hand drawn sort of charm about it - yes? this was the direction all along!!'' LOL#Which for the record I'm not like complaining that it's necssarily Bad or anything - more just I suppose not the Professional Polished#style you Typically see in a lot of things - again the like - sketchy unclean lines of it all.#(like I think usually people use some sort of symmetry tool to make sure that all sides of a box are neat and clean and have that#Professional Game Art type of feel about them - rather than 'this is a scan of scraggily pencil lines in which I did not even bother to use#a ruler or try to get them all that even' lol). So it's not that it's BAD really.#just I think.. perhaps ''unconventional'' compared to the examples of other#games I've looked at. BUT. the point is to convey an idea. I think your art has failed if you do not convey a concept properly. But so#long as it meets your purposes and is not SOO cluttered/scribbly that nobody can even tell what's going on (unless that IS your intention)#then like.. I think it's fine. You can tell a house is a house even if it's not polished. No worries. (<convincing myself)#ANYWAY.. also 'Nanyevimi Market Quest' is still SUCH a placeholder name but I genuinely can never think of anything else so#I've just been going with it for now ToT... There's no distinct actual throughline story/plot so there's no 'theme' to base a title#around. Kind of like how 'The Sims' is just called the sims because naming it like 'Sims: Downfall Of Pleasantview' (one of the#towns in TS2 i think) would be a weird misname since what happens in the game totally depends on what you choose to do with it#So you can't really name it anything THAT specific (a player might not even choose to have a house in Pleasantview. what then? etc).#So it's just like..uh well...GENERALLY speaking.. everyone is uh.. on a personal quest..vaguely.. which takes place in a Market street full#of shops.. and you are mostly talking to shopkeepers... BUT it's not just a Market Quest since it's also in a fantasy world.. so we need to#give the fantasy world name.. and that's about it. I'm just at a loss for anything else. Maybe the like 2 and a half playtesters I#manage to scrounge up will have better ideas ghhh.. 'Nanyevimi Quest: Get To Know Some Shopkeepers' 'Find A Job In Fantasy World' you could#say 'Market Adventure' but some would argue just having a bunch of conversations and wandering around is not much of a real adventure.#don't want to set people up for thinking there's any drama or combat or anything. 'Do Menial Errands For Mentally Ill Elves Simulator' ghjg#(also sidenote: the '''chibi'' style versions of the characters on the menu screen....EVIL.. that style is SOOO hard for me to draw in for#some reason.. just discussing PvP and the issues people r having with Blue hiding !! tagged discourse and crit to be safe but it isn't intentioned with either it's just me rambling
Okay I mained bads perspective yesterday but I keep seeing people say that Etoiles and Roier couldn't find anyone to kill for nine hours--and listen . Is it that they couldn't find ANYONE or that they didn't find who they WANTED to kill, because they did see Foolish and Cellbit didn't they? Two people in nine hours is SUPER ROUGH yes but they did run into red more than once and just didn't kill them so idk I'd be more into it if they really didn't see a single player for any time whatsoever but like. Just because they didn't see bad more than once ISNT the same; I think I just mainly take issue with the fact everyone is trying to give bad a hard time for not fighting while refusing to acknowledge the entire server wanted his head on a platter, why should he 1v12?? Like that's ridiculous how is that even content when he'd get curbstomped against that many people, every time people want to fight him it's only AFTER they gather at least four to six people to take him out like be realistic if you want to 1v1 id be like fuck yea but he knows that where there's one there's the rest of y'all not too far away I just do not get it he's not a coward he's using basic common sense (plus even when people offer a 1v1 they're ALWAYS in a vc telling their team where to go to jump him) that is there's One of him and An Entire Server who wants him Dead good as he is (and tbf i also disagree with etoiles calling their fight from the other day a 1v2 because it wasn't--it started as a 2v2 and fit ran because he almost died (I'm aware of the miscommunication btw I don't blame either of them!!! It really really sucks bc I'm sure etoiles could've escaped) but regardless it WAS a 2v2 that bad didn't even Want to take on initially, it would've stayed that way if fit had stuck around because he was going to die anyways ykwim but to say it was unfair when it didn't start off that way is eh 2 me mostly bc it sounds like they jumped Etoiles off guard as if Etoiles and Fit didn't engage them first) HOWEVER saying all that I think they really should try to encourage PVP in different ways than just "everyone go hunt down this one specific player" because then it's kind of just . Like that encourages that player to just hide because why would they fight that many people? Boosting the kill percentage helps but manhunts don't imo they'll just stay underground the whole time and I don't blame anyone who does outside of even Blue--like when Blue and Green were hunting Red, of course red is going to stay hundreds of blocks away to avoid PvP it's just numbers ykwim idk it's purgatory but when you being killed will set your entire team back because there's significantly less of you then everyone else I don't blame them really and I hope the admins can come up with a different way to try and get fights going

dev update. I have planned out the puzzles for the game! This made me realize that I have some more rooms to add or modify but the biggest aspect of the game is figured out! so now I can also start work on finalized sprites and graphics + splash art it also is WAY better story wise than what I started in 2020 and allows you to actually connect to the antagonist of the story. The main reason I abandoned the project 4 years ago was cause I was intimidated by the amount of characters I had to design and create sprite + art for as the plot originally involved the player saving a bunch of people. But I couldn't also think of interesting things to do regarding that either so I sat on it (it pretty much involved bring a character a specific item it was boring lol). Now it's story is more focused on the themes of friendship and betrayal I intended from the start. While having puzzles related to the items you collect to beat the game.

if im being honest and allowing myself to vent a bit about it ... another red flag was when the DM went 'wow i love the detail of your backstory but idk what i can do with it tho ):'
#[static]#it immediately made me feel bad for trying to make a character work with the aesthetic she had given us tbh#i could already tell she didnt seem to be super character story driven so i just made a pretty simple drifter-type#for a post-apocalyptic setting n such and made a group that tied into the whole over-arching premise#i also literally just did bullet points cuz i could tell she wasn't gonna want to read one of the backstories i usually do#and as someone who has mostly dm'd in the past i did my v best to make a character that was super easy for the dm to incorporate in any way#like a solid reason for being there a reason for wanting to adventure with strangers a reason for seeing the mission through no matter what#made a whole small faction and connected them to the overarching theme and plot in multiple ways#wrote down lore and npcs she could use for the faction if she didnt want to make up her own#like all the works and all i got was two sentences back about it ... one of them being like 'cool but i dont like the extra details'#aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh#ok im done yelling now i just need to vent for a second#i feel bad for feeling kinda bummed about the experience because this is the first time i got to play at a physical table in years#and i know how hard it is to DM#but also when you come to the table with zero notes for the first session its ... probably gonna be disappointing jkfghdf#i DID have fun however because the party banter was hilarious and it was fun getting to hang out with ppl!#but communication between DM and players was not great#also let me be clear she did like that i made so many connections and hooks into the story and it helped her a lot#she was NOT interested in my character's past like ... jobs or npcs#but also u could just Not say anything about it and just be like 'sweet cool thanks for the info' LMAo

Oh being a GM is so fucking fun
#this week the gm (my wonderful gf) had jury duty and was too busy to plan a session#and i want to learn to gm. im going to be a gm at a monthly event maybe. if that guy ever starts it#i wanted to get some gm experience and have fun with my friends. so i asked my gf if i could gm a one shot#low stakes. essentially 'beach episode' mostly character stuff#it actually ended up being a holiday episode#but it was so fun. the dynamic is a lot different. and i liked playing multiple characters#i got to play my favorite girl. shes an npc and very autistic#and i got to play her!#i played my normal character as an npc. and a bunch of others#my plan worked! i wrote a plan and used it as a guideline and we did improv around it and it worked#and it seemed like everyone had fun#i had so much fun honestly. like i love being a player but being the gm was a whole different barrel of fun#something i really enjoyed was. im a writer#i write stories of like book length and they sit in my documents and no one ever really reads them#and thats okay. theyre just for me and ny love of writing#but when i wrote out the plan for the session. it was then immediately acted out by the coolest people i know#people got to experience my writing in a whole different way. i got to experience my writing in a whole different way#i had a scene in which two people discover a small hidden cubby in the back of a shed with a bird nest in it#what i expected: they easily find the cubby and maybe evacuate the nest#what happened: i point them towards a hidden cubby blocking a door from closing. they assume 'the mice have gotten big. thats weird'#they first fail checks to find and open the cubby. they find an ominous bird nest. they write an eviction notice and leave it in the cubby#they take time to reorganize the shed the cubby is in so they can close the door that was being held open#like it went places i didnt expect because ny friends do not behave as i expect characters to in my head#and then i got to think on the fly about how to work with that#i tried to nudge someone towards going out on the lake so i could put her in mild danger. she instead chose a joke npc to take care of it#and i got to recalibrate around a joke person named jimmy jones whos definitely trans and doesnt know it. whos kind of a dipshit#i got to play him. which i wasnt expecting#let me count how many people i played actually. seven. i played seven people. which is six more than normal#im about to run out of tags but it was wonderful and amazing and i had the most fun ive had in forever and omg it was fucking great

Man. I watched the critmas special today and I *am* worried that I'm just not going to like watching actual play Daggerheart.
Might be the autism talking but I feel like they went in a direction that's even more "rules-light" than 5e, and I feel like that's pretty close to my lower limit for how much structure makes sense for an actual game.
I was hoping DH would wind up closer to a Pathfinder type of deal, or, since they did want a more modular system, Rogue Trader-ish level of complexity, since they DID come from Pathfinder into CR1.
I feel like I'm definitely going to miss seeing a lot of the strategizing over specific ranges and how long things last and the like. Not to mention I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to read the rulebook to keep up with what's going on unless they release a free PDF version (or someone reliable pirates it; I don't buy games my own group has a <0% chance of playing and my friends are very much d100 system lovers)
#fan wank#I was hoping they'd go more toward the system-complexity we know they actually chose pre-stream#I don't like simple games for a *lot* of reasons and I think the most relevant one to an AP show#Is that they make it really easy to become disproportionately focused on or away from particular players#Laura's already gotten the worst of the latter for two campaigns#and as much as I love *most of* Liam's characters I do not trust him to shut the fuck up and let the other players talk#especially if they let him play another mage.#Even nixing the obvious outliers (Molly and Yasha)#CR2's character focus was doled out proportionally inverse to how interesting each character was.#(also Matt used to be really hard on Marisha because misogynists would accuse him of favoring her every time the rules went her way#which makes a system where you're basically persuading the GM to allow you to do shit a handwritten invite for those types to return#after we seem to have finally mostly kicked them out too. It just sounds like a *really* bad idea ) ... :#The 2d12 system is at least interesting because it weights rolls toward the middle of the range#(which becomes upper-middle when you factor in bonus dice)#which undermines a d20's potential to derail towards slapstick with a 5% chance of a critical failure#but I feel like having to spend a resource to benefit from your own skills/experience is kind of shitty.#Makes them seem kind of pointless to have to be completely honest because they aren't reliable.#And why why why physical cards??? Those are so LOSEABLE. Sure the GM can remove some from the selection and that's nice#but I feel like having more loose pieces that can't be replaced with just any other version like a d12 can be is asking for trouble

oh by the corpses I just seen someone on twitter point to when they added first added hats as when tf2s artstyle died. Calling tf2s artstyle beforehand "restrained 50s cold war art direction" as if it wasn't silly day one. "people rightfully shit on cod for breaking its art style but tf2 has been a mess for longer that nobody questions it" as if the game didn't have cartoony gore effects, funny voice lines and general golden comic era stupidity from as soon as it released. Im sorry but that idea of tf2 died 2 years in, even sooner if you actually look at any of the meet the team videos. and at the end of their little "thing was actually much better back in the day" speal they had the gall to go tell people to play tf2 classic. I'm sorry to people who play "classic" versions of games but why is it that whenever a bad take with someone saying that "oh the tone has been RUINED from its original light" or whatever, it's always a git who hasn't played the main game in over 10 years and stopped 2 years in. Like mate, you barely played the game! This period of time you talk about is less than a third of the games lifespan, less than even "the golden years" that the game was like in its prime. Why is the complaint with the yeti taunt glitch that a yeti is in the game as a taunt and not that the glitch exists? ugh, i need a drink. sorry for bringing twitter discourse filth here, just needed to quickly vent a little steam out me.
