i generally like the xiv masto crowd, but kind of fucking annoyed at those being bitchy that boosting the *official xiv account's posts* are somehow spoilers. THEY'RE THE GODDAMNED OFFICIAL ACCOUNT. not my fault that people consider ANY breath of anything spoilers, even the literal company/devs just announcing/advertising their new shit. like fucking lighten the fuck up, or learn to take some responsibility and idk block the fucking official accounts then??
#i get that people are at different stages of gameplay but ffs THE OFFICIAL ACCOUNT??#if they can't handle that the need to goddamn curate their own environments??#like jfc masto gives you the ability to do that just like tumblr does#i desperately want to be around a crowd that is just the tiniest bit closer to my age and masto is more older millennial/gen x#but goddamn i am so tired of their hissy fits sometimes#and let me say i am glad there's a company that actually has mirrored their twitter to masto because that is so goddamned rare#so yeah i'll boost their shit to show my appreciation for that

I am in ur walls
I have come to raise the idea of, and hear me out, Max x PR officer reader. I’m just gonna yap now, hear me out
Like can you imagine Max going through his hoe phase and reader having to clean up his image, and she’s just fondly like UGH MAX. Part of her is like blehhhhh because more work, but the bigger part of her is like ✨jealous✨
And then at some point she makes an offhand comment like if you want to be a whore, can you at LEAST not make more work for me????
Cue Max and her starting to be a thing, and him trying to rile her up enough to get her to be their own PR issue just for shits and giggles and he gets quite risque and horny and her resistance to it just turns him on even more until he’s saying and doing the filthiest shit in the middle of the paddock just to get her to crack——
Also can you imagine how hilarious it would be if they get caught and GP is like NOT YOU TOO READER LIKE DOES HE HAVE A MAGIC DICK OR SMTH——
WELCOME TO MY WALLS!!! This idea HAS ME ahahahah see I was always a crackfic writer at age 12 on wattpad, its time to remerge into the light with this prompt
Like you know how max is so millennial coded. And she’s actually the same age as him but he thinks she’s older cause she’s always looking so stressed. And she like um that’s cause you’re a fuckin manwhore max?!? Have you thought about celibacy for a hot second? And as they become better friends she demands he hand over his card so she can invest in some good skincare
(max also suggests maybe she needs to get dicked down good, he’s happy to provide that if she wants or? 🤭🤭)
But anyways she’s pumping out Gen z memes left right and centre to distract the masses from his slut era and he’s always like wdym “i have zero rizz and am a bitchless cat dad”?? I know memes?? Remember hawk thua-
ALSO WHENEVER HE REALLY TRIES TO RILE HER UP ON THE PADDOCK AND SHE CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SHE MAKES HIM DO THE MOST ANNOYING SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGES TO GET BACK AT HIM like imagine her making him do a kiss marry kill with the drivers and he’s like 😑😑 and everyone’s like babes come here we got max Verstappen saying he’d kiss Alonso, marry charles and kill George before GTA 2024
ALSO I’m jumping the gun but after he ✨seduces her ✨ there’s so much scope for the classic shenanigans. Accidentally wearing shirts inside out. Accidentally wearing each others Redbull shirt and she could get away with oversized style but everyone’s like “max why tf are u wearing a crop top”. (GP knows. He knows and he can’t look either of you in the eye. Everyone has started asking why he loudly announces himself and waits 10 seconds before walking around the corners of the Redbull garage and he’s like…no reason. But his face is one of a man who has seen many, many things)
Anyway you have ban any contact of sexual nature after that incident that you have dubbed CropTopGate. But obviosuly that just makes max even more feral cause we know how competitive he is 😼
ALSO he’s notorious for going through personal managers as well but once you two start getting tension but you’re still all like “nooo 6 foot driver millionaires aren’t my type okayyyy 🙅♀️🙅♀️”
So he demands that you be promoted to his personal events manager as well. To which you are adamantly like NO knowing what this means for your poor self control but Christian Horner is like yes maxie boo 🥰 so now you also accompany max to all his lil modelling gigs, looking anywhere but at him while he stands shirtless next to you with a cocky grin.
OR LIKE IMAGINE HE AND A MODEL ARE DOING AN ADVERTISEMENT TOGETHER LIKE ONE OF THOSE SEXY PERFUME ONES. AND DURING A BREAK THE PHOTOGRAPHER NOTICES YOU AND MAX TALKING TOGETHER
and he’s like i don’t care who you are get over here NOW this sexual chemistry is insane so you end up in a very compromising pose up against max verstappen, F1 driver, cat dad, and certified slut while he’s whispering dirty things in your ear
(He catches on quick that you really likes it when he speaks Dutch, good thing you can’t understand it cause he’s just reciting his grocery list and enjoying watching you blush and squeeze your legs together)
very cute idea hehe thank you for messaging!! I LIVE for some sexual tension, reader is a better woman than me for trying to resist the advances of max 😮💨😮💨

I’m not a fan of the marauders or Snape. I prefer hjp generation compared to them. Reason for that is everyone’s obsessed with swm, and is over thinking it. I need more context than one scene to form an opinion on a person and since we didn’t get that I’m not into the marauders era. I don’t think the marauders were good people nor do I think Snape was. They were all grey characters. I grew up with 4 brothers and mainly male cousins, who are a lot older than me. I remember them getting detention for pulling other’s pants down in the hallways and doing other stupid shit you couldn’t get away with today. I never understood it then and don’t understand it today, but back then it wasn’t considered that big of a deal. I personally don’t think Snape ever viewed that as sa, it was his wm because he was embarrassed and called Lily a racial slur that basically ended their friendship. What we say or do today will be labelled as something else by the next couple of generations. It’s like watching the show Friends, a lot of things they say will make our generations jaws drop, but millennials and gen x find it hilarious and nothing wrong with it. As readers and from Harry’s pov James was a hero everyone loved, after swm Harry was disturbed saw his father as more of a grey character, and had more empathy for Snape. In the end hjp made mistakes, but he was a better person than Snape and the marauders could ever be.
But the thing is, you're saying we don’t have more information when we actually do. It’s canon that James and Sirius hexed people in the hallways just because they felt like it. It’s canon that they used forbidden spells on random people. It’s canon that James lies to Lily, telling her he’s stopped bullying people, but keeps going after Snape behind her back. So it’s not just one scene, there’s more information. And besides, you don’t need to be shown a character’s everyday life to know what they were like. When a character is recurring or a side character, the author gives you specific information to paint a picture. It’s not necessary, narratively, to dig deep into their psychology: you get a few brushstrokes because that’s all you need, and that’s what the author wants you to know about them. And Rowling makes it very clear in that scene what James was like. It’s a way for Harry to deconstruct the myth of his father and realize that, no matter how loved he was by others or the fact that he’s his dad, he could still be a piece of shit.
Then there’s the whole “it was a different time” argument, which honestly doesn’t work for me. I criticize Rowling for having a pretty racist and stereotypical view of certain characters, just like I criticize her view of women. I don’t care if “in her time blah blah blah,” because the reality is that regardless of what was normalized thirty, forty, or fifty years ago, if something is wrong, it’s wrong. Women weren’t allowed to vote for a long time, was that okay because it was “of its time”? Gay people were subjected to electroshock therapy until fairly recently, was that fine because it fit the context? Is slavery justifiable because of the time period? The Inquisition? Apartheid? The lack of labor rights? If we accept that kind of simplistic and deterministic thinking that leaves no room for self-criticism, then basically any atrocity can be justified depending on the era and context. And no, you can explain something by its historical context, but that doesn’t mean it stops being what it is. Do you know how many women have been systematically raped because, for a long time, people didn’t even acknowledge that sexual abuse could exist within marriage? So should we just let that go because it was “of the time”? And the worst part is, in many countries, there’s still no legislation around sexual abuse in relationships, this is something current.
There are also so many abuse victims who don’t even realize they’re being abused — regardless of the type — and does that make it any less abuse, or mean it doesn’t exist? It doesn’t work that way. There are people who’ll tell you they have a “good” job and that everything’s fine, and they’re clearly under abusive labor conditions without realizing it.
I think there’s a real problem in this fandom, which is basically a huge lack of humanistic education. I don’t know if it’s because there are so many different cultural contexts, and of course, each one comes with its own assumptions and frameworks for evaluating certain situations. But I’m honestly realizing more and more that people justify things that, for someone like me — who’s been involved in political and legal work for years — are honestly shocking to see excused. Like, they’ll villainize actions that are pretty minimal compared to others that actually reflect real-world systemic issues. But anyway, that’s just me rambling. What I really want to say is that context and circumstances matter a lot. I don’t know what your siblings or cousins are like, but it’s not the same if you’re messing around with a friend and pull down their pants after they slap you on the head — like, you’re just being dumb and your dynamic includes that kind of rough teasing — compared to choking someone you consistently bully, stripping them in front of a crowd against their will just to humiliate them, and then not letting them go, like, keeping them there for who knows how long. It’s not the same. When we evaluate crimes, it’s not just about the act itself — it’s about the entire context: Was there a pattern of aggression and abuse? What was the relationship with the perpetrator? Had something similar happened before? Was the relationship good or bad? Could the victim defend themselves? Were they in a position to fight back? Was it balanced or was there a power imbalance? There are a lot of elements that make up a case of abuse, and I feel like in this fandom people either don’t understand that, or aren’t educated enough to understand it, or have certain cultural frameworks that prevent them from seeing it, I’m not really sure. But I’m honestly just tired of having to explain all of this in what feels like aramaic to get the point across.

I'm always trying to stay on the cutting edge of every permutation of our constantly evolving visual culture but the elusiveness of every new form makes it difficult for me, even as one of the youngest possible millennials. in fashion, my freshman students are all wearing 2000s or "y2k" fashion: baggy grungy or baby phat hiphop, with an elevated touch of modesty, good color theory, and a stark awareness of bodily proportion. in memes, legendary 00s icon, lisa frank. its embarrassing to follow influencers with over 10 mil, now, as if it breaks the parasocial connection.
someone asked yesterday if tiktok is now the premier vehicle of visual culture. I open tiktok. on one side, a zoomed in interview with the mother of a shooting victim. but the other side is a compilation of slime videos, a woman cutting soap, life hacks, and chinese "smart" product placements. you can hear and see both. this bizarre genre, I can only recognize as content. on social media, content is technically anything you can doomscroll, the action of spending over 2 hours on a social media feed, a for you page, a timeline, a dashboard to tumblr addicts.
I'm watching cable TV with a girl I'm seeing. the ads are remarkably only geared towards boomers and older gen x. but, so is the 'content', bad action movies made for cable and reruns of 80s/90s TV shows, but the exact same show marathoned in hours long successions.
to be an effective art historian, I have to take things from this ever-shifting visual culture and translate it into the equally fickle and amorphous art world... so what does 'content' look like for museum shows? my first 100+ object loan show was in part by a colleague, a younger curator at BAMPFA. a massive exhibition of all female nonbinary artists, from the 60s PoMo feminists to the self obsessed identity displayers of today. I absolutely LOVED it. I had no problem enthusiastically flitting from object to object, frontwards and in reverse twice, to spend special time with all my favorites. a fave professor stopped me. I hadn't even recognized him in the excitement. he looked bewildered, but laughed about how giddy I was. he didn't write any criticism on the show. my boss at the time, our museum director, told me she thought it was "such a big mess". my favorite lesbian professor clutched onto her wife with an anxious look. my lesbian artist friend had panic attack and put his headphones on in a dark corner. on the other hand, the younger undergrad girls from berkeley looked elated and delighted, flitting around and oohing and aahing at my same pace. I learned one of them was an engineering student named erin who needed a feminist pickup from the disouragement in her male dominated field.
so how has the 'content' show, or the art world reception to them, changed in the past 4 years? well for one, it seems like major flagship institutions are dropping the mononym altogether. as the french impressionists take over the east coast, none of shows feature one painter as a sole focus, but curators use juxtapositions to keep people interested. in MoMAs, monoynym shows are reserved for major retrospectives or figuratively and literally, monolith artists like simone leigh. the older art historians are hesitant to adapt to these changes. one of my favorite shows this summer, over 300 very different collection pieces packed onto the floor and across the hall, wasn't enjoyed by any of the critics I know. My dates all hated it. except one, a hot ADHD butch who had a tiktok doomscrolling addiction.
what does this mean for the future of how shows are displayed.... how do museums let go of the traditional princely standard: 3.5 inch hangings with a 25 degree downwards tilt? is it better or worse to compromise museums into messy 17th century curiosity cabinets?

free free to delete or answer this privately -- ohhhh my gd your point about millennials absolutely refusing to take accountability and bitching & moaning while grooming us absolutely got to me.
my own groomers/abusers were either millennials or gen z emulating millennials. downplaying & making jokes out of personal trauma to cope is one thing, but i'm so sick of millennials (and some facets of gen z) refusing to admit what they're doing to themselves and especially to others is harmful.
we get it, you (general you) are upset that you're an adult now after being raised by gen x -- acknowledge you are an adult, acknowledge you have power in situations, that what you say & do means something, positive & negative, regardless of intent. LEARN WHERE YOU ARE AT FAULT & TEACH YOURSELF BETTER!
tl;dr, i am SO glad you brought this up. it's been abstractly nagging at me for days, coincidentally.
yep, yep yep yep. my experiences with grooming was all millenials and late gen z/"zillenials" too, and not only are they so fast to make jokes out of their personal trauma but specifically put the spotlight on you to either comfort them or make your own joke. and it is so, so fucking awkward because 90% of the time im like. youre the one who traumatized me. this isnt a comradery where we talk about mutual traumas. youre doing it again. youre doing the exact thing you did when i was 14. youre making weird trauma jokes and then are forcing me to comfort you or to play along. its the same fucking dynamic. how have you not realized this. and if you point this out they FREAK THE FUCK OUT.
i have a couple tiktoks on this topic and let me tell you the reception was fucking terrible. i made a couple different videos talking about my frustration about how millennials kind of just "got away" with grooming us despite there being so much public evidence of it happening everywhere and how gen z and gen alpha deserve the right to speak up about this and they are my worst received videos. out of everything ive made. ive made videos about incels and transphobes and 4chan and terfs and abusive distant parents. but its the post about millennials that got me the worst hate. millennials in DROVES were coming into my comments harassing me and saying extremely disgusting and triggering shit about me, then turning around and calling me a cry baby and a sensitive snowflake for ~crying about it on the internet~ when they never made it anyone elses problem that THEY were abused. like its actually insane. its insane!
its even more insane to me because before that, i had MULTIPLE VIDEOS DEFENDING MILLENNIALS. MULTIPLE! where i talk about how their clothing interests and lingo like doggo and puppo and friendo or whatever the fuck might be cringy but thats also going to happen to gen z when we get older, that thats just a part of how trend cycles work through aging and how its a beautiful thing to be able to live to that point where younger gens call you cringe. and how gen z should be more aware of this because theyre really scared of being cringe and its inevitable, once gen alpha is in their late teens and early twenties, our lingo and style and behaviors will be so normalized that people will think we're cringy and out of date and annoying. its a good thing! it means youre the adult now! it doesnt mean anything if kids think youre cringe because. theyre kids. give them a few years. theyll be cringe too as adults.
and now im just. i literally cant believe it. they were my worst ever received videos and it got genuinely scary. i had people screaming at me in my comments about how "millenials didnt even use the websites" i listed (youtube, tumblr, twitter) and how millenials NEVER interacted with gen z, and how we're all just pussies and pansies and snowflakes and faggots for ever bringing this up. it was insane. like i genuinely cannot believe it. it scares the fuck out of me, and its making me realize that this is likely connected to the whole fetish situation i keep talking about on my furry account. i notice that a lot of the really big vocal "profetish" or "proshipping" accounts are also always millenials or older gen z. i dont know what the fuck is going on with them, but they need to shut up and get help. like i genuinely feel grossed out for defending them so much in the past. i genuinely did defend them, i think the generation gap and the idea of cringe is something that really damages society and shit, but god after that i was like. oh something is really, really really wrong with you guys.
i dont know whats going on. i feel like everyones decided they want to become a baby again. especially millenials. but like. EVERYONE. its just so fucking weird. so so so fucking weird. i still cant believe how many comments i got that were like OK BUT MILLENIALS DIDNT EVEN FUCKING USE SOCIAL MEDIA. and id be like heres a list of millenials on youtube who publically groomed their audience and theyd be like WELL HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW ABOUT THAT and id be like. you didnt know about miranda sings. or onision. or cryaotic. or dream. or most of the minecraft rpers. ever? youve never heard about them? it was insane. like genuinely. i cannot believe they said theyve never used youtube/twitter/tumblr/instagram. ever. THATS INSANE
WHAT AN INSANE AMOUNT OF DENIAL.

Healthy Reminder to Not Feed the Trolls.
I think especially younger fandom members and creators need to hear this because it's not advice that I see nearly as often anymore and part of that may be because my gen (Millennials) heard it a lot and often take it as Just Something You Know (though I think we also sometimes need the reminder). But we're older now and there are those younger than us that may not have the experience we do, especially if we just assume they know better (and younger and younger people are online now). It's part of Online Safety 101. I've linked to a couple resources near the bottom.
A troll is someone who shows up in a space and is purely there to upset someone and cause drama/chaos. All they're seeking is attention and the enjoyment they get from upsetting you. They do not care about facts, your feelings, or anything else you throw at them. They will argue in bad faith. They will commit the cardinal sin of Being Wrong on the Internet. They will accuse you of committing the cardinal sin of Being Wrong on the Internet. They will make fun of your favorite character, your art, your writing, you, your friends, your dog, any and everything. They will tell you that how you enjoy or interpret your favorite thing(s) is Wrong or Bad. They love to cause drama in and between groups. Peaceful coexistence is often what they want to disrupt.
Some spaces will unfortunately draw more trolls than others.
In this PSA, I'm not quite referring to the "trolling" term that is also used interchangeably to mean "joking" or "fooling around" with the intent to get a raise out of someone but not necessarily to upset them. Though that can easily lead to this.
Resist the Urge to Feed Them. ("Feed them" being "give them attention.")
Don't give them attention by responding to them or giving them any kind of space on your blog/page/whatever. That's what they want. That's what they live off of. They want the hate because it means they've gotten under your skin and in your head and that makes them happy. They may have an agenda, they may have no specific agenda.
This can be so hard because it's natural to feel the need to defend yourself, someone else, and/or the things you enjoy. It can feel good to correct or engage someone who comes at you swinging. But they often don't stop. They will keep leeching your time and energy, especially if you allow them to.
You lose nothing by not engaging them. They bring nothing of value.
Engaging them can bring drama and hurt in your spaces and this may not only affect you. This can tear apart fandom spaces, cause rifts in groups, and pit people against each other. And then you're all unhappy and you have these negative associations of interacting with something that previously brought you joy. It causes people to stop creating, to stop engaging with others in the fandom, and to even leave fandoms.
And that is the goal of many trolls.
If you feel the need to address something they've said publicly, do not link their post/message/blog/name/etc. You want to give them as little of the attention as possible - you're addressing the accusation/concern/subject/whatever specifically, not them. Don't even relate it back to them if you can prevent it.
Some very non-exhaustive examples of what can be trolling behaviors:
They leave nastygrams in your inbox/Ask box.
They leave negative comments or reblogs on your post.
They leave unsolicited "critique."
They'll tell you that how you interpret X is wrong.
"Your blorbo would never do that!"
"X should never be shipped with Y!"
Antis (the people or groups that don't agree with certain content and try to get others to stop making/sharing it [being anti-X doesn't make you a troll, but going into the space for X and telling those people that they're wrong for liking X is trolling/harassment])
Someone comes into your fandom niche and tells you all that You're Wrong
They may behave inappropriately or send inappropriate things
They don't always use provocative language - they may be very polite (all the easier to make you seem like the unreasonable one if they do get a rise out of you). Still trolling.
They'll do or say things to try to get support from others in order to turn it on you/someone or pit "sides" against each other
They may lie and/or try to spread rumors
"You/they made this with A.I!" is a common accusation towards artists/writers I'm seeing now that has absolutely been picked up by trolls and is unfortunately spreading (please always make sure that you are informed and don't jump on the hate wagon just because you see others doing so - do your own research and demand credible sources/proof [learn what "proof" is per context]). I've seen this kind of accusation disrupt artists' livelihoods just based on someone's say-so that others piled on with no credible claims.
It is okay to have differences.
People are allowed to be Wrong on the Internet, but that doesn't mean that they're owed a response or that you can't delete their comments. You can delete comments on your page just because you feel like it (though "I don't like it." or "This makes me feel uncomfortable." are perfectly fine, non-exhaustive reasons).
If you don't engage them, they will often simply go away. You're not fun if you don't give them attention. You're not going to change their behavior (please don't waste your time trying). Some may try harder to get you to notice or reply to them, but they generally won't stick around for long. They'll move on.
Curate your blog/social/fandom space. (You'll be so much happier and healthier for it.)
Do not engage them.
Block them.
Report them.
Delete their DMs, comments, etc.
Use the moderation tools that you have.
You are under no obligation to accept every 'friend' request, or allow everyone to 'follow' you or engage with you on social media or let into your Discord server or into your little fandom or Tumblr friend group, etc etc. If someone is causing drama, kick them out! Don't feel the need to keep giving them chances to behave, either. Don't be afraid to put your foot down and be firm.
If they pop their head back up (maybe even under a new name), block them again, report them again, delete their messages again. Do not engage. Move on. Dealing with trolls is often like playing whack-a-mole. Send them to the void with the spambots.
You will be happier not engaging them.
Honestly, the above works in similar scenarios, too (not just random strangers)!
Uncle Joe keeps ranting on your page and upsetting you and/or your friends? Delete his comments. Block/unfriend him. Don't feel obligated to keep troublesome family members involved on your social media. Or even in your life.
If the above is someone that you can't simply block (there are valid reasons), sites like Facebook allow you to make lists that you can use to control who sees which of your posts.
You may have to remind your friends, followers, or others in the fandom to not feed the trolls.
You are the moderator of your own spaces. If this is a public space or a private group space that you don't control, politely inform a moderator or someone who has the authority to deal with the troll (sometimes all you can do is hit a report button and/or block them).
Learn the moderation and safety tools that you do have for the platform/app you're using:
How to unfollow/unfriend someone
How to report and block someone
How to turn off read receipts for things like chats and emails
How to turn off online status
How to contact site staff
How to turn off reblogs/comments/etc
How to turn off anonymous/guest messages or comments
How to delete comments
How to moderate comments, etc, on your works (ex: AO3 has an option for all story comments to be approved before they're posted on your work)
How to privatize your profile
How to back up and delete your content
How to filter content
Thoroughly read through all settings (I recommend doing this periodically as settings frequently get updated or change)
Learn where and who you can turn to for help
Read the platform's FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions), Rules, and Terms of Service (TOS)
Etc
And again, They will Argue in Bad Faith.
They may accuse you of not being fair, of not allowing them to participate, of leaving them out, of ignoring them, of not "liking" them, of being "mean" to them, of your silence "agreeing" with them or meaning they're "right." They may accuse you of being a bad person or condoning bad things IRL. They may accuse you of any number of wild things. They may say they're just "being the devil's advocate" or of defending their own fandom interests. They may call you names and insult you. They may say that they have private information about you that they'll leak/share or that they'll do X if you don't do Y - this is almost certainly a bluff, but this is part of why it's important to protect your private information and be careful about what you post online. They may say that something you've done is illegal and that they're going to report you to the police (again, very likely bluffing just to scare you). They may even say that they'll harm themselves. There's a lot of crossover between spammer/scammer and troll tactics (often they are one and the same).
That's what they do.
Don't take their words personally.
They just want to guilt you into allowing them to stay and continue causing drama.
It is okay to give people chances.
But you do not need to keep giving them chances.
In your spaces, you don't even need to give them a chance or an explanation.
I have become very liberal with how I deal with trolls. I block on sight in many cases. I don't give them ground to even start if it can be helped. But part of that is just due to experience - you gain the ability to recognise them pretty fast (a lot of it is simply pattern recognition), the difficult part is usually in how you choose to deal with them.
If someone is being particularly problematic, keep a paper trail (like screen shotting their messages with time stamps), but otherwise block+report is usually still the thing to do. If they are threatening harm to you, someone else, or themselves, report them (if you're a minor, tell a trusted adult). If you don't know what to do or you're scared, reach out to someone you trust for support. Trolling is a form of online bullying that can escalate to other forms of harrassment - a majority of the time, simply not engaging them helps prevent this, otherwise know that tools and resources are available for help. Just because it's "online" doesn't mean it isn't real or impactful or can't have "real life" consequences - there are agencies (like the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center) that you can file a report with or contact for help.
Have fun, be safe!

Intro Post
Greetings wanderer! 👋
Here is one of those "get-to-know me" posts people pin to the top of their profiles 😉
If we already know each other, then hello again. If not, here's some of the basics (keep reading for hyper specifics lol).
Name: Kyrie (pronounced keer-ee; mostly rhymes with kiwi 🥝)
Pronouns: They/Them - *shrugs in gender's general direction*
Age: 34 - I share this because I believe it is important to let younger queer people know they are not alone and their queerness is not the deviation that our obsessively heteronormative society makes it out to be. Also, hey I enjoy discovering fellow queer millennials/gen-x/baby boomers. So, no matter how old you are, here's your signpost, my lovelies 🥰 We exist and we're valid. We always have and always will be.
What is my blog all about?
Doctor Who is my first love! Most of my posts will be related to Doctor Who in one shape or another. I love celebrating new episodes of Doctor Who. I enjoy considering older episodes as well and just exploring the lore as a fan and creative writer. ...that said, I'm also human. This blog can't and won't be solely Doctor Who themed.
As a bisexual, agender person I am not going to be quiet on political matters. There are a lot of ignorant people who want so much to pretend like queer people are a problem to be solved or that we simply never existed in the first place.
I will be loud when I feel compelled to say something. This blog may not be designed for politics as a primary source of content but it would be irresponsible of me to be apathetic to current events. I will not be silent on important shit, I will not censor myself when things need to be said, and honestly...silence is the worst possible response to oppression. Never forget where your spine is located.
As I said, I'm human. We are all human. We're not billboards. We can be more than one thing.
Other fandoms/things I enjoy...?
Hey look, it's some other things!
I'm a fan of:
Lord of the Rings. Magic the Gathering. Baldur's Gate 3. Star Trek. TTRPG's (like Dungeons & Dragons). Stardew Valley. Pokemon.
I have a spouse and four cats! Three of them are black cats and my oldest kitten is a fifteen year old brown/white/orange tabby. She's my sweet old lady. I say sweet ironically because she will bite you. ...doesn't affect how much I love her though. She and I have been together for 13 years at the time of making this post 😻
Aside from that I also enjoy finding pretty or pleasant things in the world be it through nature, fashion, or other mediums. Romance novels and poetry have their place. Sometimes I write ideas around high fantasy or Doctor Who fan fiction. I pride myself on having excellent handwriting. Sometimes I draw. Played percussion and brass in high school. Was a theatre major for the first half of college and graduated with a degree in philosophy. Today, my day job entails a lot of organization, answering calls, and being generally helpful. Maybe I'll keep at it, maybe I'll find something different in a few years! Point being: I enjoy helping people who help people.
I love cherry ice cream, cheesy potatoes, and things you might find in overly expensive hipster spots like arugula flatbread or the overwhelming scent of truffle oil. I enjoy food, and by extension eating food with people, that don't hold fast to conventions. Pineapple belongs on pizza as much as chili is both a soup and belongs on hot dogs. Also, straws have zero holes.
I said what I said. Here's a box if you need to hop back inside one. 💅

If I were asked, in all of time and space, where would I like to go, what would I choose: a restaurant at the end of the universe, please. Preferably, one with a view...and a good cup of coffee! 🫣

...it pains me to be so precise in my favorites. As a Whovian, I have at least 10-15 other items to place in all the above categories with detailed reasoning as to why everything has its exact ranking. 🤭
IN CONCLUSION
I'm spicy, deeply empathetic, and often inclined to use terms found in those dusty, ol' philosophy books. My apologies ahead of time that my brain tends to dump the most complicated term it can find out from the subconscious like a foot seeking the ground when taking a step.
Hopefully this wordy post helps you better understand me and what to expect from this blog. I would say, feel free to ask me anything but frankly it's the internet and we're strangers so...be sure to curate questions if you have them. Lean on good-faith assumptions when in doubt 😅

I feel strangely distant from the culture of like...John wayne. Mid 20th century America. Like it's a foreign culture. But unlike a far away culture it performs for my gaze in particular. So I can't get a look at it peeking around the facade, it's positioned between us. Ever since mid century America every gen was the one that was gonna let go of all that. Hippies, Gen x, millennial, gen z. But we're not gonna let go of it, we haven't made something to replace it. So it gets older and we stay the same sage

Hello! I love your blog and find your posts really insightful I was wondering, what do you think is a key aspect of Miguel's character that makes him challenging for writers outside of Peter David to write? Some people told me that the key part of Miguel’s essence that ATSV failed to portray is that he’s a rebel is that true? I hope I'm not bothering you with the question I'm just fascinated by your perspective
what do you think is a key aspect of Miguel's character that makes him challenging for writers outside of Peter David to write?
The short version: I think a lot of writers try to make Miguel O'Hara a version of Peter Parker that works for them or that they grew up with. It falls in line with the idea that there is only "one true Spider-Man" of the franchise that fuels the backlash to Miles Morales. But instead of overt racism, you end up with a milquetoast version of Miguel that's closer to Peter Parker than a genuine iteration of Miguel.
Some people told me that the key part of Miguel’s essence that ATSV failed to portray is that he’s a rebel is that true?
I think Miguel is a collaborator by nature, but rebels when something directly opposes his principles' and moral compass (and usually after he cannot ignore it any longer).
Take for instance, the catalyst that led to his becoming Spider-Man. Alchemax experimented on a human being without any real authorization, and Miguel's cooperation led to the senseless death of Mr. Sims.
The only way he felt he could hold himself accountable for his part was quitting and putting distance between himself and Alchemax. Tyler Stone undermined that by spiking his drink with an addictive drug that would eventually kill him. The aftermath of an deliberate attempt to murder him basically gave him the means to fuck up Stone's corporation and make some kind of amends for his complicity. But it also left him with disabilities (extreme sensitivity light being one of them).
So, in general, I think Miguel is a team player when it counts, but prefers to do things his own way (which, I guess is a rebel depending on the context).
Other elements that make Miguel 'difficult' for other writers is
1): Generation Gap and the Passage of Time
In particular, Spider-Man 2099 came around the time of the much derided "extreme era" of Marvel Comics, and comics in general. Which was nothing, if not a reaction to the Comics Code Authority and its particular brand of censorship (ah-la BS&P), and the desire to cater to a much older audience of readers.
So, the end result was overcompensation and a lot of antiquated ideas that remain fairly prevalent within the modern industry's of comic book publishing (see: Ultimate X-Men, Ultimatum, One More Day, Dan Slott, Comics Gate, etc.).
Spider-Man 2099 is very much a reflection of that "extreme era" ethos, from its character design, writing, and particular depiction of the future. It's Robocop or Judge Dredd flavored, so to speak. I also think it's easy to forget that Spider-Man 2099 was apart of a larger comic book series that included Ghost Rider 2099, Hulk 2099, Punisher 2099, and etc. It was beta Ultimate Comics.
The original Spider-Man 2099 debuted in 1992, and ended in 1996, officially putting the character on ice. Even as one of the better received titles of their 90s catalogue, with a cult following, it's hard to ignore the fact that Marvel treated their 2099 titles like damaged goods, something they had to run away from to recuperate their image.
As a result, they intentionally never did anything else to really promote Spider-Man 2099 so that he'd become a household name.
A similar thing happened to May Day Parker and the Spider-Girl franchise. Despite being relatively well received, Marvel as a company did its best to basically make sure she'd never become a household name.
So, by 2014 you've got 22 years of nothing happening with Miguel O'Hara. Then Dan Slott's Spider-Verse title debuted, and introduced a bunch of a Millennial and Gen Z era readers to all of these Spider-Mans they've never heard of, or only knew in the vaguest concept.
Almost immediately after, Peter David gets to write two more volumes of Spider-Man 2099. Except this time, he more or less does away with original continuity and all its narrative ties to cater to newer readers.
2): He's treated like a novelty or an aesthetic
The cancelled Spider-Man Unlimited series from Fox Kids, a reaction to Batman Beyond (Kids WB), was initially shopped around as a Spider-Man 2099 series. But because the general audience didn't know Miguel O'Hara (a consequence of the lack of promotion), Marvel decided to use the trappings and ideas of 2099, and created another Spider-Man series with Peter Parker. They treated the series like a spiritual sequel to Spider-Man: The Animated Series (a show they cancelled).
Prior to Spider-Verse, we got things like Timestorm 2099, Shattered Dimensions, and Spider-Man: Edge of Time.
Like an extension of Unlimited, with instances like Marvel's Spider-Man that uses Miguel's costume as an alternate skin to unlock in the PS4 game. It's why The Amazing Spider-Man production process wholesale lifted the design scheme of Miguel's costume as a possible final costume for their version of Peter Parker (see: the film's concept art), but never considered, maybe, making Miguel an actual character. (But honestly, given that its TASM, that's probably for the best.)
Thirteen years after the original comic, Timestorm 2099 was some kind of an attempt to introduce Miguel O'Hara to another generation of readers (Ys and Zs). I guess, to see if they could turn a profit with him. It's one of the few SM2099 titles not written by PAD. It solidified my belief that no one at Marvel, except PAD, really considers Miguel a unique character, just a reskin of Peter Parker.
Timestorm 2099's Miguel is a really bland version of teenage Peter Parker, whose dad is a genius scientist, and no elements of his family and life from SM2099 vol 1 (Gabri, Conchata, Xina, Dana) exists in different/alternate forms. The story basically exists just to get Peter to meet teen Miguel, and not much else. It's a less entertaining version of Spider-Man 2099 meets Spider-Man.
Exceptions to the rule are Edge of Time, a story co-written by PAD. It treats him like a whole and fully realized character, it uses an iteration of his universe as part of the stakes for Miguel and Peter, whose futures are altered by Dr. Sloane. It builds on their back and forth through dialog that doesn't just fill game-time space, but informs their character. And they do this with, arguably, the most recognizable Peter Parker voice actors of their time (Christopher Daniel Barnes, and Josh Keaton).
Were it not for the game's less than stellar performance, I'd argue that was a solid selling and starting point for newcomers to Miguel that Marvel could've really pushed. If I can say anything about Dan Slott, he kept trying to make his "fetch" idea (Spiderverse) happen, and it was, in part, the reason why we ended up with more PAD-helmed 2099 stories for Miguel.
But even with that in mind, the novelty aspect of Miguel's universe as one that Marvel constantly reinforces. It refuses to give 2099 its own space to exist outside of sporadic moments. To a large degree, Across the Spiderverse is very much a representation of how Miguel is treated like a niche or kitchy idea.
And you'll notice, with Miles (the one alternate/legacy Spider-Man they're capitalizing on, however disengeniously), the way they legitmized him is by keeping him trapped within the sphere of Peter Parker (specifically, alternate or cloned versions of Peter Parker).

Why is there a generational divide with Palestine and Israel?
I haven't talked about it much because doing so will send me into a depression spiral, but I do watch what's happening around me.
I'm making general statements here. I know this doesn't cover everyone, but here's what I see.
Boomers and Gen X (not all) support Israel and Millennials (not all) and Gen Z support Palestine.
I see old folks in cars with the Israeli flag on them. One was even flying on a motorbike and the guy looked younger than my borderline Boomer/Gen X mom. Then there’s all the folks running schools and the government.
Meanwhile kids in college are getting attacked by the police for protesting and everything I see on tumblr (which skews younger) and tiktok is pro Palestine.
I understand other generational belief gaps (climate change, lgbtqia stuff, working from home, I could list so many examples) but this one just confuses the hell out of me. It's not like the older folks can't see what's happening?????
Please be nice if you do know where this comes from for the older folks I am honestly baffled.

My Generation
Yes, I am 'Talkin' about my generation.' (See what I did there). This is not the first blog I have posted with a title courtesy of the Who, but not sure if it will be my last. Maybe if I meet someone named Tommy or Baba O'Riley (actually I would rather meet Baba's glue sniffing parents to find out why they named him that) I will. I have given up hope of ever encountering a Pinball Wizard for one simple reason: pinball requires standing up for periods of time. Those of us that grew up with the game just don't have the stamina anymore, and the young'uns, well I lost them when I said they had to stand up.
So what exactly am I writing about this week? Generations. It is right there in the title. I will offer my view on the various known generations and even though we all know before hand which was the best, you can be the judge. I will provide a fairly unbiased look at some of what life has to offer. Sit back, relax, and don't take offense.
1925-1945 The Silent Generation. These were my parents and the parents of any of the best generation ever. Hard working people who raised the best of the best. Why were they the 'Silent Generation'? Let me put it this way. My father didn't say much but he would give me a look should I stray from what was right. If I missed that look I would get a smack in the head. They were silent but deadly. (a phrase that was later stolen for passing wind)
1946-1964 The Boomers. A highly intelligent group of individuals who nonetheless also produced some major a-holes. Each group has their cross to bear. Unfortunately most of those politicians still working beyond their best before date fall into this group. The rest of us use our energy yelling at the TV. We also are not comfortable with neither change nor electronic things, so stop changing what our phones can do please.
1965-1980 Gen X. These people are Boomer wannabes. They refer to OUR music and OUR best TV shows as theirs hoping the younger people can't do the math. (sadly this is working) They even produced That '70's show pretending it is a reflection of their own teen years. I was a teen then. The show missed a lot of what really happened. They are even taking early retirement so they can hang with the cool kids. Us.
1981-1996 Millennials. I have to be careful here because all of our daughters fall into this category. Let's just say that whatever my observations are about this group do not apply to our girls because they were raised right. In fact most millennials were raised by Boomers so what went wrong? All I can say is that there were a lot of drugs around in the 60's and 70's so obviously that may have come into play here. I believe this group grew up too fast to help take care of their parents. Having said that would it kill them to save some money? And never talk politics with them. Trust me.
1995 -2012 Gen Z. This is not a typo. For some reason there is an overlap of two generations in 1995-1996. That can lead to some strange behavior. (not for our youngest who is from that time). These people are easy to spot from a distance by how slowly they walk through an intersection while traffic is waiting. Also if you see an Uber Eats bring a bag from directly across the street to a condo I will bet anything the person coming down to collect it is a Gen Z. They can never find a job because they only want one where they don't have to work up a sweat. Don't get me started on spelling. And do they know they can buy regular jeans fairly cheap and rip the knees through wear? Just saying.
2013-2025 Gen Alpha. These people have not fully formed yet. Can't fault the little ones because they are just too darn cute. The older ones have just learned how to use electronics so no telling where they will end up. Jury is out on them. If they are learning from Gen Z God help us all. For best results let them spend a lot of time with their grandparents providing they are Boomers.
????-???? Gen Beta (I am assuming) Not sure when it will start but I know one thing, they will have thumbs but no fingers to oppose them. They will be able to text but using a tool will be beyond their capability, Either this generation or the next one (Gen Omega- and yes I mean that sincerely) will have limited spoken language and spelling and math will be lost skills. There will be some rare ones who can transcribe the words of Bob Dylan, or better yet read my blogs to those that will listen. They should be revered.
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: While not all change is good remember that not all change is bad either.

So I was reading on reddit (I know) that autistic people are developmentally delayed. One person say the their therapist said the average Autistic person is roughly 3/4 their age and another said they heard it was 2/3. Honestly it feels like both work for me since that would place me either in early or mid 20s. As a millennial (practically gen x) I have no trouble relating to gen z who are 18 years younger but I can't relate to full on gen x people who are up to 12 years older. The only flaw in this is how I felt like a full on adult until around 17/18 where I felt like I could relate to my peers. Then the moment to relate was gone.

I watched this interesting YouTube video a few months ago about why it seems like people today look younger than they used to (like, see a photo of your dad at 35 and then dudes today who are 35) and they were saying most of it is really just a bias where our brains impute age from the fashion/vibe.
I can't stop thinking about this since -- and so much of it is about defining ourselves as NOT what came before. My aunts who are in their 80s have these hairstyles that are very carefully NOT looking like my grandma, who had the white curls short do. I would never consider cutting my hair short bc it reminds me of my mom in the 90s with the poofy top, short hair mom do. I have never dyed my hair despite the greys, and somehow this isn't "old" coded to me -- because none of the people in the previous generation ever went gray!!! To me, it looks older to have dyed hair!!!
But just as wild, this also applies to those who are younger than us! The best example I have of this is men's sock choice with shorts and sneakers. When I was a kid, dads wore EXCLUSIVELY high socks, usually white, with shorts and sneakers. I believe my dad died without ever wearing an ankle sock. So dudes my age just deeply feel that the high socks are old-coded and have worn low-cut socks their entire adulthood. But now the next Gen is wearing high socks! Usually black! Like these kids would not be caught dead in a low sock. So clearly this type of fashion identity means that we enter cycles of fashion, or weird onward evolution to try to come up with things that don't have Old connotation.
I keep getting these suggested posts about how millennials should stop dressing x and and do y instead, and I just feel like it's somewhat futile to attempt to get around these beliefs because they are SO ingrained. Even if it fit my gender, I would never consider wearing a skintight mini-dress! That's something that Uncle Jesse's girlfriends would wear in 1992 when I was a smol! No one my age would wear that!!! I don't care if it would make me look less "of my generation", because to ME the connotations are ✨HAVE MERCY✨
So when we look at people who are older than us and think they are dressing old, what's fascinating is that they AREN'T dressing old according to their own definition of what it looks like to be old. And paradoxically, sometimes when you tell someone older to dress younger, you're asking them to wear something that, to their embedded understanding, actually, to them, looks OLD!
Anyway fashion is fake but this is also all very very real in terms of how deep these things are in us, and I think people don't dress "old," they simply dress according to their own generation, and attempting to get around that is pretty much never going to work.
Which isn't to say you should wear the same thing forever, but the potential zone of fashion possibilities is going to be different for each generation, and maybe that's kinda lovely 🤷🏻
#fashion#age#ramblings#you literally could not pay me to use a scrunchie#same thing applies to baby names and music

Boomers

Gen x

Millenails

Difference in their coming of age
So if you see my place at the top I have started with boomers, I find all the generational gaps fascinating and how we can like show different ways of being with different generations and what their Generations before them had taught them so we start with the boomers, and what they were raised like so they would have been raised by the Silent generation I believe or the greatest generation I forget between the two so there were two ways of being at this time.
my mum's are Boomer and she didn't rebellions her parents at all, whereas my uncle might of Here problems with alcohol and drugs so did my mom's sister so then in this generation you get the first generation of the real known groupies and the under age of it all, I don't know whether it is whether these Generations grow up faster or it just becomes more a topic that we look back on and think how the hell did that happen? I just think it's really interesting thing to look into and if you look at the covers of these girls and these magazines in the first roll of photos, you will see how young they look on the cover of star magazine.
They get a rap for getting all the money all the houses all the drugs and on the hardship which is technically true I mean G's I'm in a millennial and I'll be running into the rest of my life I've been in my place for us since 2016 so yeah as long as my dog has been alive. But some of these teenagers really rebelled who had sable star Laura Laurie Maddox ,bebe buelle ,and Pamela des bares.
When it came to the abuse in the industry, I think the Boom is took it actually the hardest as in it was more rampant than the further you go back even actually but of all these three Generations here I am talking about you see that they had to do with the the Harvey weinsteins, Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, of their times so they took it hard, but they were told to have a stiff upper lip ,and get on with it ,I think that's y early gen xers late boomers and even late gen x ers, have this complex that they should not feel a certain way about abuse and abuse in power .
Gen x were raised by early boomers and older greatest generation. Their generation rebelled more ,but in more aggressive way rather that Saturn in Pisces it was coming into aries /taurus punk movement then went , went to the grunge movement who are raised by the punk movement which makes sense unlike the boomers who were all happy dippy hippie Saturn in Pisces or Aquarius which you can really see of like the controversiality and the delusion representing acid and the weed whereas now Saturn is going into Aries and Taurus to signs that have horns are just gonna crash a grense things and be like hey I'm going to take this crap no more, see the gen x's I like millennials that don't talk about their pain I saw this the other day and that is the best way to put it don't fuck with a gen x so because you won't win, and then you have the subgroup but the xenialls!!! And that would be people born between 79 to say maybe 83 but Punk affected the gen x's I mean their generation compared to Milani holes and boomers are outstandingly small they even ended up in rehab, dead in prison or taking over the fucking world they are some strong motherfuckers.
So now the drugs of this time I forgot to talk about the late 70s early 80s which they were being raised by people who are on cocaine or crack or maybe even heroin.....
This generation raised the Kurt cobains to the Courtney loves the Spice Girls, TLC, NWA Rage Against the Machine, REM no doubt,Pamela Anderson, and so many more people .....
Then here come my fucked up generation millennials had at the hardest out of not having the best time out of these three groups when it came to the internet Revolution groups, because we were around when mobiles came out and we didn't really get along time as gen x is and boomerside we saw that little bit of greatness where you had those nights in the park getting drunk cause your friends before you are old enough to do so and also having the internet not affect it not checking your phone every 10 seconds to go and tick tock, I mean the music Now is just a disgrace programs now are just to me but maybe that's just getting old maybe that's just me so let's talk about millennials a bit or period is 1981 to 1994 yeah that's right!!we looked up to the gen x generation we were raised on spice Girls, a lot of us are just very tired ,I almost feel like we don't fit any the other group s including gen z because we gad the most hate on our bodies ,which sucks because we then get bullied online to by gen z and alpha !!! Very very sad .....we had paris hilton and Nicole richie , trisha pastas, holly Madison (just)I think ? Amy winehouse , Avril Levine, Britney, xtina , rihanna ,beyonce , ..so was some good uns taylor swift ,kim k ,cardi and nicki .justin beiber, and Timberlake.
