there's A LOT to talk about but today, here, my main focus is gonna be the old gods! i love how influential they are for the game (the first and the second) specially Sylvian and Gro-goroth! obviously Alll-mer is essential as well and i'll talk about him a little too but not here! the God of the Depths is really interesting too, so he'll shine eventually

we all know Gro-goroth and Sylvian are kinda "consorts" (Vinushka exists because of them!) but there's a detail i like to point out everytime because idk it's so cool! you see, Gro-goroth is primely destruction, chaos, death energy, his followers do blood sacrifices, sacrifices in general (but i bet it's mainly human sacrifices) and cannibalism (they're known as wolfmasks!) and if we go back in time, that accompanied the human race pretty much all the time! many ancient civilizations partaken in sacrificial stuff for gods, to placate their thirst, rage or simply to satisfy their gods needs. I'm not talking about it in a negative way, never. it's a REALLY interesting topic and tell us a lot about human relationships with the divine! it's cultural, it's HISTORY!! and I'm very passionate about it too!

i absolutely adore how Gro-goroth sums that chaotic, deadly energy that surrounded humanity since ancient times and i love how his design shows it well, on the other hand, there's Sylvian, goddess of lust, creation, fertility, life energy, she embodies the human carnal desires that, well, we all have, it's a primal human desire. lots of old civilizations (that persists until our days, like Hellenism! my friend @getagirlie is an Aphrodite and Hera devotee, i learn a lot with him!) had ways of worship that required sexual acts, like masturbation

sex can be a powerful way to connect with gods and this is fascinating! Sylvian design show us that even if she is a feminine goddess, she has both masculine and feminine symbols like voluptuous breasts and fallic stuff

and it's SO COOL that their "child", Vinushka is a nature goddess. because nature destroys, but also birth life. it's chaotic and harmonic at the same time. it's fertility and death. and these 3 gods are perfect to summarise human "needs" and "desires", the deepest and primal human emotions and relationships with the nature (humanity is nature too!)

i ADORE how Miro wrote the gods and the different takes each character has with them, their visions, opinions (or lack of opinion), fears, etc. they add A LOT to the game and i wished ppl talked more about them; the way these fictional gods are so similar to irl gods and religions makes me so happy... love talking about it...

TW! Spoilers for TGR (I will only be talking about things I picked up in this book because I did not annotate TSC), mentions of SA, because, of course there is, it's these two.

To start off with: Jean is so aggressively loyal.

BUT

His aggression and violence is controlled. Idk if you saw the post someone made about Andrew never being out of control, even when others think he is, and I 100% stand by that and it's the same thing with Jean. We all saw how controlled he has been with everything - the game, practices, when ppl piss him off in general - but when it comes time where that aggression is needed to protect his people, it comes out in a measured dose that doesn't intend to seriously harm, but to get someone to back down. Like how a dog will give you a nip, or a cat will swat at you, to get you to back off? Yeah, like that.

Which leads me onto the dog thing.

Now, we're all aware of how Andrew is referred to as Kevin's guard dog, or something of the likes, with the leash and other metaphors. Well, Jean's is not so outwardly named, but he does display dog-like behaviours - especially an obedient one, even if that obedience has been abused into him.

For example, on page 13/14 (Kindle): "As usual, Jean finished first and went to wait on the bench near Jeremy’s locker." Tell me that is not a dog waiting obediently for its "owner" (not saying at all that Jeremy owns him, he does not, but Kevin did not own Andrew, so...) And going back to the whole control thing? If Jeremy said "bite", Jean would. It is Jeremy (and Rhemann, and his contract, but mainly Jeremy and Jean's fear of disappointing him) that keeps Jean at bay (most of the time - technically with Bryson Jeremy didn't say "go" but he also didn't put up much of a protest. I'm sure if Jeremy had been more confident and less afraid of his brother, he could have stopped Jean. But also, sometimes a guard dog will bite even if it isn't told to if it's owner(s) are in danger, and Jeremy and Laila were).

Another quote, which kind of made me really think "hmm, this guy is kind of a parallel to Andrew!" is one quote on page 335: "It makes you more interesting" after Jeremy insults the Bobcats. And quote on page 226 "Stop looking at me like that." (though I didn't realise how Andrew-like it was until I started writing this) are both almost exact copies of what Andrew has said - I think Andrew says "Interesting" to Neil once in the first trilogy? But I haven't read the books in yonks.

Also, just, the poker faces (though Jean's is less "I'm bored" and more, "I could not care less about anything going on"), how they're both so accepting yet filled with rage at what has happened to them (e.g., page 350 "I don’t care. It doesn’t matter. Then why did he want to scream until his throat bled?").

The fact that they are both victims of rape, yet believe that they would never get a true prosecution for their abusers (I'm sure that's why Andrew never spoke out, not just because he was trying to move on, but he knows how low the rates are of rapists getting prosecuted for women, and he no doubt made the connection that it would be even less between two men, even if it was CSA), and Jean doesn't really express this but I'm sure it's a thought.

And I don't doubt Andrew struggled to come to terms with his sexuality after everything that happened to him, and though it isn't the same as what happened to Jean, his struggle with his own attraction is similar.

If we were to get a POV of Andrew, and I were to read TSC again, I would probably be able to make more comparisons.

This post here is rather interesting.

At least because this person's story is similar to mine.

The bit here i want to highlight is "but I liked Starscream more and more as time went on". I relate to this statement very much.

There are videos on YouTube that are compilations of all Starscream scenes from s1-3 and PR.

And you know what the s1 vid made me realize?

The fact in s1 Starscream had a solid arc. His character and relationship with Megatron specifically were clear and It was understandable why he left.

The way Starscream is shown is also interesting. We as viewers sometimes get very close to his "skin", so to speak(we can even hear his internal monologue, no wonder ppl project into him).

An interesting example is "Shadowzone". We can see Starscream's injured frame very close, hear his pain(stellar voice acting lol).

WE ARE SHOWN A CLOSE-UP OF HIS OPTIC AND WE SEE HOW TERRIFIED HE IS

Overall, the fact that ppl empathize with Starscream in TFP is understandable and has its roots in the show itself.

Ok, not entirely related to Unburied. This question is about you. What inspired you to write Unburied and how did you join the fandom? Also, because I love this fic to much, % of next chapter completed?

I first found out about Transformers when I was just bopping around on Youtube one day and randomly clicked on the 8 second clip I attached below. I was like, “Well, now I need to watch this movie, I need to know how this gets resolved, what did LaBeouf do this time??”

So I went onto Netflix and did not find that Bayverse film, but I did find TFP and ended up binge-watching it. It rapidly became my favorite TV show ever. At first Optimus was my favorite, but I liked Starscream more and more as time went on. I was extremely disappointed when he was deprived of the opportunity to become an Autobot and I hoped he would somehow come out on top later on, but he never did and I found him harder and harder to watch. I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why those scenes felt kind of off to me. I procrastinated watching Predacons Rising because his death had been spoiled to me. When I did finally watch it I was so angry and disappointed about the way he died.

After I finished watching the TV series I went online to see if there were people who were just as upset about this as I was and that’s how I found the Save Our Starscream movement. So many people wrote so many good posts that analyzed Starscream and perfectly explained why I felt there was something a bit off about his depiction in the show. They perfectly explained all of the abuse and PTSD he suffered from. When I first looked into fanfic I thought there would be a bunch of Autobot Starscream fics, but I was shocked and disappointed to find so few. But I did find one eventually, it’s called “Stop Me” and it’s really really good! It encouraged me to write my own fic. 

I really wanted there to be a story that analyzed Starscream and all his problems and I realized that if I wanted it to exist then I would have to create it. Unburied was originally supposed to just be a one-shot character analysis, but then everybody asked for more, so I wrote some more.

The next chapter is 100% percent done, I just need to read it over one more time in order to ensure that it’s all good.

Hot take? A show with queer people in it from the beginning was never queerbaiting and— very literally and technically— never could. In the first episode, a gay man comes out to his family. And he doesn’t stop being gay after that; it’s a major plot point and part of his character going forward. You’ve had a married lesbian couple from the jump who are proud and unapologetic about their love for each other. The story has also portrayed several queer couples and stories in episodic plots, including featuring queer weddings.

Buck didn’t suddenly “become” bi. Queerness is not when straight people “turn” queer. He has been attracted to men the entire time; he has always been bi. Understanding yourself and your sexuality as a queer person is often so difficult under heteronormativity. Sometimes, it takes time.

Hell— Buck checking a guy out some time in season 3 or getting flustered by the idea he might like a guy, etc, etc, are not even examples “queerbaiting,” nevermind how the show already features queer stories.

I genuinely think some of y’all are just mad that he’s not sucking face with the man you want him to, and are being weirdly homophobic about it. “Buck kissing this man is kinda off-putting, lmao.” “Buck and his bf’s relationship is awkward. IDK, but it weirds me out.” “There’s something so cringe about Buck’s relationship—” “Who dates someone they haven’t been friends with for years first? It’s kinda creepy…” “I think their relationship is a weird mess. It’s not as meaningful as a slow burn.”

Life isn’t fanfiction and fanfiction tropes don’t make good writing. Most relationships start out with a “hey, I’m interested in you, let’s get to know each other.” You’re just transparently uncomfortable with two men expressing that interest in each other outside the arbitrary rules you’ve established to make a mlm relationship “legitimate” or “meaningful.”

[Fanfiction] tropes— from “there’s only one bed” to “we’re forced together, but fall in love anyway”— are responses to the sex-negativity and purity culture norms forced upon gender and sexual minorities. They provide a workaround for these norms but never a direct challenge. It’s like the Family Guy episode “Prick Up Your Ears,” where conservative Christian abstinence-only sex education leads to kids having ear sex. Ear sex is the workaround to the abstinence and purity rules they’d been taught, not the challenge. We still have stringent rules around who can touch whom and under what circumstances. Tropes reflect this. So, a trope like “there’s only one bed” provides the characters with a justification for their intimacy without directly challenging why it is taboo.

You’ve convinced yourself that shipping— and thus the tropes it employs— is more subversive than actual representation, and the people caught in the crossfire are actual queer people.

Also— for the love of fuck— stop comparing every mlm relationship to RW&RB.
