Hello!!! I've been reading ur jinwoo fanfics everyday bc I'm addicted hehe. But though I do have 1 question, and I'd respect any opinions. Do you think Cha Hae-in and our boy jinwoo is fated for e/o? Honestly speaking, she came out of nowhere.. I honestly thought him and his healer friend was gonna be together!(I forgot her name:() it would be cute and good dynamic to see them be together. Hey, Cha Hae-in is gorgeous she's a girlboss like slay. But he literally like ignored(?) or did not respect jinwoo until she found out he was strong. So in my opinion I think Jinwoo would look more good with his old healer friend☹️❤️‍🩹🫂 she looks like she was inlove with jinwoo too.. so I kinda feel bad for her. They could've worked honestly. I get the allure of Power couple but on my personal preferrence i never rlly cared abt that kind of dynamic xD. Jinwoo and Hae-in's dynamic feel so sudden and uh forced? It's rllly jst random. But i never read the novel because im lazy and i read other novels. i heard they have more(?) chemistry there? The healer named Juhee is where the real chemistry started really, I like their relationship because Juhee saw Jinwoo at his worst and I'm a sucker for dynamics where the love interest has seen the mc at his lowest point. Jinwoo had a chemistry with her that Hae-in didn't have qq. I wish Hae-in and Jinwoo had a proper development, but for me Juhee still wins in these aspects. But Juhee developed well imo since she chose herself and her happiness. A good-ish way for her to leave the plot but her departure is very sad for me.

Imagine a plot where Juhee discovered Jinwoo in danger and she rushes headfirst in despite her ptsd, wouldn't that be a wonderful plot?

Hae-in shouldn't have been used as a reward for Jinwoo. I really think she should be given a spotlight just for her. It's sour on my mouth that generally if you think of Hae-in it's "Jinwoo's wife" and "Suho's mother" coming to mind instead of this brilliant and awe-inspiring swordswoman who dominates the hunter industry. It's so infuriating that she's rlly jst for waifu uses;;. So yeah, that's my take. Jinwoo x Hae-in doesn't really work for me and it randomly appeared. Juhee x Jinwoo will forever be a plot I will never stop mourning.(ALSO TY FOR LIKING MY WORKS HAHAH QWQ!!!)

so. i forgot to say. skeptic IS a detective. a pi. a gumshoe. a dick, if you will. but i guess thats sort of implied already. i just wanted to state it clearly.

this whole thing was made bc im so fucking insane about the cage chapter. the themes about being a slave to fate and how our actions are not our own and losing control of yourself and your life. just. ugh. it speaks to me a lot. and ofc skeptic being an old timey detective is so universal. i joke about hating him but i Do like him and find him interesting. i want to put him in situations.

and thats what this whole au is. putting skeptic in situations. hearing new perspectives, having his theories proven wrong, dealing with uncooperative suspects, red herrings. i love when hes wrong or ignored or otherwise slighted. he seems very. sure of himself? not an arrogant fool, but more. a guy who hasnt been wrong before. ykno. and i think ur typical film noir (with slay the princess elements like cycles and fate) is just a really natural fit to explore all that.

but its Also about playing with the whole "perception based creature" thing that the princess has going on. i Love "character nobody really knows" and the princess, with her multiple forms and fluid personality, works Rlly rlly well with this concept. i love the princess and i think she deserves to be a mysterious "haunting the narrative" type character. shes like a spy with multiple disguises. or someone in witness protection.

and also bartender hero lives in my mind like a parasite. oh my god that reminds me i need to talk about the others ok.

hero is the bartender (as stated before) of "the long quiet" bc i think its funny theyre still in tlq even in this silly film noir au.

stubborn is the bouncer/bodyguard/whatever the fuck you call it. he kicks ppl out when they get too rowdy.

cheated is The regular there. he either sits at a table and mopes or gets roped into a card game with opportunist that results in both of them being kicked out (theres always blood drawn).

opportunist is a conman/snake oil salesman whos only still allowed bc hero is too nice and opp is too good at buttering ppl up.

smitten is a tortured artist, lamenting to anyone who will listen about his lost love and muse. he is never paying his damn tab, but again, hero is too nice.

cold is a mysterious figure who only visits the bar like. once a month. he barely talks to anyone and only drinks water. (hes an assassin LOL)

broken is the local priest (the god is shifty btw) who only visits bc hero told him to get out more. he doesnt drink either. he just looks vaguely haunted.

contrarian is a guy whos hard to pin down. you cant find him, you just have to pray he appears ykno. the only people who Know him are hero and cold, but hero refuses to divulge anything abt him and cold is just. Cold. ykno.

paranoid is skeptic's partner (lol) and secretary. he does half the work around the office (maybe more) and lives with skeptic. he complains and protests and threatens to quit, but its all bark. hes very loyal. to his own frustration.

now im going to be honest. hunted is Super difficult to put in this au. given his role as a fight or flight, base animal instinct type, he cant be fit into an au like this very easily. ive considered a hunter, but that doesnt fit him at all. so. im a hack and i should delete my tumblr.

but no seriously hunted is very difficult. ALSO. There is so much discussion rn Abt romances in Avowed n how in pillars the romances were bad and RPGs need romances yadda yadda and honestly it's kind of crazy...

Like saying that they are going to lose out on players is probably not true bc if you are a type of player who plays RPGs for the romances then I don't think you are or ever were the target audience for this kind of rpg or pillars of eternity to begin with. Like ik sorry if this sucks to hear but pillars was always a story more focused on an old-school type adventure where you find out the secrets of the world while also being a game that builds upon this rpg legacy and tries to improve on the general ideas while at it.

Tbh to me it's a bit strange ppl are either like UGH I won't play this trash bc no romances!!! Vs. UGH you can just make up headcanons Abt romancing npcs like ok I suppose you can do this but why not just let a story speak for itself once it releases and why not interact with the narrative and setting.... Like pillars has a crunchy and rich fantasy setting you can get lost in imo and the writing of previous games was very good and ambitious. These games do interesting stuff with the basic fantasy premises and tell relatively focused stories about a couple of intertwined themes.

I think it's telling of the current social climate around RPGs (on Tumblr) that romances are dominating the discussion this heavily. And before you I get accused if anything no it's not "bad" to like romances. Romantasy especially is an incredibly popular genre of fiction. And it's popular for a reason.

But like what's weird to me is how so many ppl just very loudly dismissing a game that looks good so far just bc of no romances. It's like do you critique other games like this too? Do you want like idk Balatro to have romances in it too?

Personally I'm glad there are no romances. And it's not bc i don't like rpg romances (I do love them) or bc i think the romance of deadfire were lackluster (they were fine and fit the vibe of the game). Im glad bc that means the ppl who made this thing probably focused on the things they actually wanted to make and hopefully were passionate about. Playing games where you can feel that passion and which are not just churned out to be popular for popularity's (and money's!!) sake to me always feel more impactful and charming like that's the "good stuff".

Ofc Avowed is super fucking expensive even shockingly so. I can only hope some of that money goes to obsidian and not all of it gets drained into the pockets of EA. I also hope that the same kind of passion n ambitious writing we can see in pillars 1 & deadfire will be still here, but I won't speculate (yet) since I haven't seen the game (since it's not out). I think tempering your expectations about a game is a smart thing to do IG lol.

To be fair the marketing of this game is a mess already. And the pillars games were never rly super popular to begin with so ik a lot of ppl are confused and might be getting the wrong idea. Also we are off of the back of bg3, which was a game strategically focused on romances and characters even when it made the overall narrative suffer. It was also very popular (and a good game!) so it gave a lot of ppl (esp ppl who did not particularly played a lot of RPGs or video games in general) the idea that THIS is the "blueprint" for an rpg. But the thing is it is not.

Honestly I just don't rly get the scorn for this game lol. Idk. Temper your expectations and if a game is not for you then you can just say that n move on. this is probably gonna be a hard pill to swallow for csm fans who are reading this, atp it’s kinda clear Asa’s feelings for Denji has heavily influenced onto Yoru and is confused on how to go about that.

i think she was overcompensating that big tough persona last chapter. she’s trying to be like “this does not affect me at all, i have no emotions,” when really she is an emotional and impulsive devil. yeah i don’t doubt Asa was on the verge of breaking down seeing as how she looked unwell. however, she is also using that as an excuse to not acknowledge how she really does not want to turn denji into a weapon.

the way i predicted this was always gonna be the direction, after that chapter where she tried to turn him into a sword after the aquarium date and she said along the lines “i can’t believe i feel affection for this punk.”

i’m gonna reference my old post, where i’m trying to connect my two interests together lol. i sometimes view Yoru as a monster from gothic lit. in gothic literature, one of the many interpretations of monsters is that they represent the darker aspects of human nature and suppressed desires. i know a majority of the fandom interpreted Asa expressing disgust to Denji wanting sex at face value, and i think there is merit to that interpretation. however, Asa has this tendency where she denies that she does not want certain things like friendships/romantic relationships but deep down inside she does. in fact she’s admits in the first chapter that she is jealous ppl get to experience that.

and so, there is this tension between the pleasure of acting on your deepest instinctual desires (Yoru) & the restraint to choose not to (Asa). but as a human being especially a repressed & depressed teenage girl, there's a lot to envy & aspire to in yoru's confidence, isn't there.

after chapter 167, it was only going to get messier, more painful, and more uncomfortable to witness. for many fans, that is where they drop the manga due to what happened to Denji and Asa and that’s totally understandable even I had to take a breather.

but to me, these three’s dynamic is what makes it so fascinating to keep reading. the more Yoru acts out, the more we’re forced to consider how this turmoil affects both Asa and Denji—not just as individuals but as two people shaped by loneliness, trauma, and longing. And with Asa’s isolation who is imprisoned by her own body, it’s hard not to wonder just how far this push and pull will go before it breaks her, seeing as how her dream was briefly shown before she arrived to aging’s world.

Similarly to what’s implied in op’s post yes Pentious is pathetic and as the show proved to us Pentious is seen as forgettable. Despite his habit to treat himself as larger than life he always ends up blending into the background.

His character arc more subtle and we even get a direct of Pentious blending into the background, the Welcome to Heaven episode’s trial. Notice everyone’s attention was on Angel Dust. I know Charlie was trying to use Angel as her example for the trial but I think it’s interesting Pentious is literally off to the side for most of that plot flirting with Cherri.

That’s Pentious thing, being in the background. He doesn’t really get much direct focus after he gets introduced. His arc happens off to the side.

Bringing this all up cus this might be what kept Pentious for so long. He blended so much in the background as being seen as unremarkable that literally nobody in universe cared.

As to what he was doing well we already know he’s incompetent but if I was to make a bit of a theory here it’s possible result of depression? I know weird thought but hear me out here. So as someone who has experienced a lot of the things I’ll be mentioning here I noticed Pentious seem to have displayed a few mental issues.

Specifically, paranoia, suicidal ideation and yes possibly depression. It makes sense given Angel Dust, the other resident of the hotel, has definitely mental health issues I don’t think it’s hard to buy that the other resident (Pentious) and future residents (Baxter and maybe Cherri if I was to make a guess here) had/will have mental illnesses. The hotel does feel like a stand in for a rehab center.

Ok why these 3? Paranoia seems obvious he kind of gets super on edge when first moving into the hotel in Scrambled Eggs. In fact this little moment of paranoia kind of what kicks off the hotel plot of that episode. As for the other two it comes from his introduction episode Radio Killed the Video Star. Specifically the scene right before It Starts With Sorry. Think about that scene for a bit, Pentious was told if these people don’t kill that he should kill himself and then called a miserable failure then abandoned to these ppl’s to decide his faith. Angel Dust and Vaggie were also all ready to kill him too.

Yet after his earlier attempt to get away from Angel (he doesn’t even really fight angel I’ve watched that scene a few times most what happening there is Pentious trying to get pummeled lol) he just kind of gives up. Like he gave up fast and that probably was his breaking point so he lays down and accepts it.

He accepts this is what gonna happen to him and says “just make it quick. not that I deserve it.” Idk something about this line always stuck especially given we get it right before a song of Pentious being song to about how despite making so mistakes in your past that you can still grow to be better. Pentious solo part in this song even him trying to argue that he doesn’t deserve this kindness. Sure he seems better after this but I feel like those issues are still with him.

I bring this all up cus these mental health issues probably hindered his ability to get stuff done. Depression especially is very draining and makes getting stuff done. Hell we saw it with Lucifer remember? Sure Pentious gets into turf wars but probably not as much as you’d assume. I think he had a few really bad depression periods that lasted a really long time during his time during his time in hell.

Idk this second part just probably me reaching tho but either way I do think about this a lot. I genuinely want to know what Pentious experienced when in hell. He probably seen so much.

Angel had lost his own soul probably around Pentious' centennial of being in hell. Husk and Niffty were in hell less than 100 years before they lost theirs. Pentious still owns his soul.

Alastor owns the airwaves, and several other overlords have entire districts that they command, most of which took under 100 years to do so. Sir Pentious has a ship and some raw eggs.

If it's been a while I sort of understand, otherwise...seriously, there are AA456 already and we all see how it goes do we not? I think the devs def put down "hints" of the Iris/Nick relationship, just because at the time the series was ending and it is a traditional way to end a story by having the main character happily in a relationship or dead or something.

But like, for real, "btw this guy got married with someone only appears at the last chapter" is just a weak ass way of making this kind of forced "happy ending". Given the storyline, it's not as bad as Arthur Conan Doyle being "let me pull this superduper villain who was never a thing before out of my ass just to kill off the main character", but it's pretty much the same kind of crap. It's basically "marrying off the main character" for the sake of having a "traditional ending", which is straightforwardly bad writing that most writing guide 101 books would advise against. If someone chooses to abide by the canon doggedly down to every letter, it's their choice, but there is a reason why even a writer as influential as ACD had to fix his trash ending and have the story going again. Shitty writings got rejected. That's it.

Also...it's not even canon set in stone lol it's hints and hints only and you can take or leave it. It's ultimately ambiguous. Like, Wright doesn't even say I still have feelings for you or similar lines. He says "I still believe in you". The point is that he believes the girl he once cared for is not an evil person. It's about him being a lawyer who knows how to trust even in a situation the most compromising to his faith in people. "Wright trusts people and judges characters correctly" is the theme here, not his romantic feelings.

If ppl absolutely must be homophobic and insist a woman on Wright, there are like tons of female characters that could fit the job. Those who are so obsessed with Iris/Nick never give a fuck about this ship. They keep bringing it up because and only because it's "canon" as if that makes them superior or something. Ugh.

Hot take? A show with queer people in it from the beginning was never queerbaiting and— very literally and technically— never could. In the first episode, a gay man comes out to his family. And he doesn’t stop being gay after that; it’s a major plot point and part of his character going forward. You’ve had a married lesbian couple from the jump who are proud and unapologetic about their love for each other. The story has also portrayed several queer couples and stories in episodic plots, including featuring queer weddings.

Buck didn’t suddenly “become” bi. Queerness is not when straight people “turn” queer. He has been attracted to men the entire time; he has always been bi. Understanding yourself and your sexuality as a queer person is often so difficult under heteronormativity. Sometimes, it takes time.

Hell— Buck checking a guy out some time in season 3 or getting flustered by the idea he might like a guy, etc, etc, are not even examples “queerbaiting,” nevermind how the show already features queer stories.

Life isn’t fanfiction and fanfiction tropes don’t make good writing. Most relationships start out with a “hey, I’m interested in you, let’s get to know each other.” You’re just transparently uncomfortable with two men expressing that interest in each other outside the arbitrary rules you’ve established to make a mlm relationship “legitimate” or “meaningful.”

[Fanfiction] tropes— from “there’s only one bed” to “we’re forced together, but fall in love anyway”— are responses to the sex-negativity and purity culture norms forced upon gender and sexual minorities. They provide a workaround for these norms but never a direct challenge. It’s like the Family Guy episode “Prick Up Your Ears,” where conservative Christian abstinence-only sex education leads to kids having ear sex. Ear sex is the workaround to the abstinence and purity rules they’d been taught, not the challenge. We still have stringent rules around who can touch whom and under what circumstances. Tropes reflect this. So, a trope like “there’s only one bed” provides the characters with a justification for their intimacy without directly challenging why it is taboo.

You’ve convinced yourself that shipping— and thus the tropes it employs— is more subversive than actual representation, and the people caught in the crossfire are actual queer people.
