OVERVIEW

Dbhc, or the Detroit Become Hermitcraft AU, is an au that started as a joke and very quickly stopped being a joke LKFJGDG It’s called Detroit Become Hermitcraft, but not really because it has anything to do with the base game DBH– really, I only yoinked the android mechanics and inserted them into the minecraft-based world of hermitcraft. It’s an au that starts in Hermitcraft Season 8 (aka, many of the first androids were built for the beginning of s8 in this au), meaning that the seasons prior in this au do not technically have those hermits as part of their history. The Life Series are canon to this au, but like earlier hermitcraft seasons, 3rd Life is missing all of the android hermits due to it having taken place prior to HC Season 8.

I saw you going through my blog awhile back and it absolutely brightened my day, and I'm so glad you like my Tango design.. <3. In any case more normal Tango art will come dont you fret!!

He's a little upset too but shh I just. I just love the idea of flames of misery. Love the idea of him bursting into a little bit of a wildfire as a treat (thinking about Last Life Tango cough) he deserves it. The idea of "let him burn, he will calm down eventually, if we approach we'll just get hurt, he won't" (cough how Team BEST largely kept distance from him during his outburst, even Skizz) vs DL Jimmy who approached anyway, because he saw that Tango would end up more hurt than him if he didn't. Love the idea of Tango containing his flames and refusing to ever use them to hurt someone, and that he's gotten so good at it, so when he bursts into flame its just that much more.... arggg sorry what were we talking about

The sketch too because his expression looks way better here imo AGH its hard for me to convey expression well in lineless art, let alone in color when tango's eyes are fuckin full red. But whatever!!

Tango - Venus

Extremely hot, hottest planet in the solar system thanks to it's thick vulcanic atmosphere. Lightning storming firey surface yet calm clouds at higher elevation.

It's surface is partially melted due to vulcanic activity. (Also looks bald without clouds lmao.

Despite this It's called after Venus, ronan goddes of love equated to the greek's Aphrodite. Love and beauty, what does Tango have to do with that?

Hmmm I wonder.

Bdubs - Ceres.

Ceres is a muddy (literally clay) dwarf planet (small) that orbits in the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars. It is full of craters since it stays in the asteroid belt and wouldn't you know it that fits as well.

Also it is named after the roman goddess of nature often equated to Demeter which fits perfectly with his nature and especially moss theme.

Etho - Mimas.

I could give a bunch of reasons for this one like silver fitting Etho perfectly or the icyness fitting with Etho's association with ice. But like..

You see it right?

Also Mimas is a moon of Saturn exactly like his soulmate-

Joel - Titan

This is Titan, the biggest of Saturn's moons. The colour fits that of a swamp and the name titan usually refers to something gigantic despite this being only a moon and not a planet and therefore small. It's also at the temperature where methane has a cycle similiar to water and has a haze of methane vapour covering it like mist...it therefore smells and looks very swampy.

Also also if we do this we can have Lizzie as Titania, which is a different moon named after the fae queen which fits perfectly with Lizzie... Speaking of:

Lizzie - Titania

Not only all that I stated in Joel's bit but this moon is also mostly made of ice and likely has an ocean of water underneath the ice. This means It's both linked to Ocean Queen Lizzie and fae Lizzie. Also It's not completely gray, it has a red-pinkish hue... It's a uranus moon btw.

Jimmy - Europa.

First of all completes the trio with Lizzie and Joel as it is a Jupiter moon (While Titan is a satellite of Saturn and Titania of Uranus).

Second of all It's canary colored with two almost wing shaped patches on opposite sides.

Third of all it has a strong connection with death and dying because it is literally covered in bleeding wounds.

Skizz - Uranus.

Listen, It's a chill big blue planet that spins really funky and has an halo of ice. It's perfect for Skizz, I already said so once and I'll say it again.

Also Skizz would love it because of the jokes around the name.

If you aren't convinced Uranus is named after the greek god of the sky which fits Skizz's making TIES live in the sky and his obsession with wind charges in Hermitcraft.

BigB - Neptune.

Dark cold and mysterious, the strongest storms in the solar system hidden by a facade of calmness and peacefulness. The furthest planet from the sun it is the one that holds the most mysteries. The one we know the least about between the main 8.

Imagine if Jimmy has his mareep and he's just going around the world trying to have a good time and collect his badges. Gym leaders could be Joel, Gem, Impulse, Etho, Cleo, Bdubs, Bigb and Tango. Skizz, Mumbo, Lizzie are all people he meets along the way. Rivals? Friends? Both!! He becomes really good friends with Tango too.

Eventually, about a third of the way through, he meets Scott, who always refuses to battle him but gives him really good pointers (with a good amount of teasing) and is now is his go to person for tips. He asks for a Pokemon battle every time, but Scott refuses every single time.

Scar is an elusive traveller Jimmy meets in just about every corner of the world doing miscellaneous things. Jimmy doesn't think Scar is much of a Pokemon battle guy because he seems to be doing anything but battling, but then he sees Scar's primary Pokemon (not sure what) and is absolutely dumbfounded.

Considering Scar has been trapped in Secret Life for so long, do you ever think he had a Castaway moment?

Three wolves? What? No that’s Ren, Pearl, and Joel you silly goof! They’re right here, can’t you tell? A couple of parrots? No! That’s Jimmy and Grian obviously. That fox that is tied to a tree just outside his house that he can’t bring himself to look at? That’s his deadbeat father. That pufferfish in a bucket he refuses to let go of? That’s Martyn. That zombie that’s he’s saved from death multiple times now because he can’t for the life of him bear to just put it in a hole to keep it safe? That’s his mom! It’s okay if Cleo isn’t the brightest and she wanders into the sunlight a lot, her favorite son is there to help her, that’s what he’s there for! But those are the relatively normal ones. Those are the living creatures, as sad as it is, at least they can respond to anything he does.

But then it gets worse. That block of moss? Why that’s his dearest baby brother Bdubs. Why can’t he talk to him or participate in games and shenanigans like they used to? Well that’s because this ones just a baby! It’s okay though, Scar will carry him around everywhere if he has to. There was a cookie BigB once, but Scar smashed that into pieces when the Grian parrot got too close to it. That huddle of redstone torches in the corner? Why that’s Tango, Impulse, and Mumbo. The pumpkin in the front yard with a crudely carved axolotl on the front? That’s Lizzy! What are the hero names you currently have? And how did you come up with them?

I have all 5 names for the BAMVA!

All of these except for Cub’s were suggested by @/Andyling_ on twt! They suggested having the BAMVA having explosive pun villain names!

Scar: Dynamight - Dynamite + Might

Lizzie: Enignite - Enigma + Ignite (Previously Enigma)

Jimmy: Bangshee - Bang + Banshee (previously Poltergeist)

Tango: Blizzt - Blizzard + Blitz

Cub: Vexplosive - Vex + Explosive (he doesn’t go out on the field and said he didn’t need an alias, but the other 4 wanted to include him and just assigned him one and it stuck)

The Vigilante team I still need to develop a lot, but I have 2/4 names:

Gem: Pollux (Suggested by @/cantsurviveme on twt) because the constellation Gemini consists of Pollux and Castor, and when Castor died Pollux begged Zeus to revive him.

Grian: Wildcard (knew all the wildcards, seeing as he can mimic he’s kind of a wildcard himself)

Etho and Joel I’ve got no clue as of yet, but I’m still tweaking their powers and stuff anyways

The Hero Commission, while I’ve developed a bit more, but I haven’t figured out many names yet, and the ones who I have I’m still considering and are subject to change:

BDubs: TimeKing (very subject to change, it’s kind of basic, I just took it from “the time king changes the day”)

Cleo: Necromancer (also very basic, however Cleo doesn’t bother with the whole identity hiding thing because she’s a zombie so she can’t really be a normal civilian anyways. Chances are, the others wanted her to find a name and she just picked the first one that came to mind.)

Pearl doesn’t have a set name yet, but I’m probably gonna be looking towards “Hermes” or something connected to/revolving around that

Skizz also does not have a set name yet, but it will be revolving around his “Cupid” theme.

The other 4 I have no clue as of now haha

Finally team Renwood, things are very loose and I’m throwing ideas around for their name ideas!

I could easily just go for “Red King” and “The Hand” due to everything going back to Dogwarts

Other potential names would be “The Hound” and “Listener”

Still though, I’m not very attached to the names and am still looking!

In the end I want all the names to be fun and well thought out for all of them like the BAMVA’s were (thanks again Andy) and I’m still letting myself brainstorm for a bit before setting anything.

there can be multiples of the same mob in this au, but they still differ from one another.

also in regards of grouping them,

the illager gang: vex jimmy, evoker lizzie, either pillager or vindicator joel (i think pillager fits better), ravager etho (lol)

nether dads: blaze tango, ghast skizz, wither skeleton impulse

piglin duo: hoglin ren, piglin brute martyn

overworld roamers: creeper bdubs, zombie cleo (has to), witch scott

i think this could be their sort of alliances, with scar having no particular allegiance, free-roaming (he disguises as a wandering trader anyway)

ok so. forgive me for a second but i've been abnormal about skizz and ren since the hiatus between third life and last life and holy shit this season is already not helping.

let's talk about skizz, ren, undying loyalty, and golden apples, shall we?

so the thing that you need to understand about skizz is that he is loyal to a fault. impulse literally says this exact thing about him in limited life, and skizz himself says himself: "you know me and my factions, i never turn." the second thing is that the first person their loyalty manifests for in third life is ren. he and ren run into each other on the second night when ren is getting accosted by mobs outside skizz's door and skizz gives him a place to stay the night. ren decides to trade skizz for his leather, for the upcoming enchanting buisness, and gives skizz a golden apple in exchange. skizz thinks this is wildly more than he deserves but is very thankful. skizz doesn't say it here, but this is the moment he swears his loyalty to ren.

throughout third life, he is willing to do or get basically anything for ren. the two of them literally die together to the tnt trap. when ren dies on the alter and everyone thinks martyn betrayed him, skizz is the first person to get there in the morning. he's in half broken gold armor and borrowed tools from bigb and he still tells ren "get behind me", still tries to protect him from martyn. when skizz is on red, he goes a bit crazy, but he channels that bloodlust into protecting ren. he kills jimmy in the red desert, he kills cleo when she tries to attack ren, he chases down impulse when he betrays dogwarts and dies trying to kill him.

when skizz dies in third life, he's got an unused golden apple in his hotbar. after he dies, he remembers the first time he met ren, etho, and martyn, and he spends quite a bit of time on his memory of ren and ren appears in his first memory of etho. after he dies, ren wields a blade named in his honor.

skizz spends third life loyal to ren- he dies for him and he dies with him.

in last life, ren and skizz end up on completely different sides, and it very quickly gets bad because when ren becomes boogey, he kills skizz. he lures him into a trap. he tells skizz he loves him. skizz literally says "i am broken hearted" when ren kills him. ren holds no regard for the relationship they used to have and yet skizz cannot help but compliment ren's skill with the trap, outright says he can't be mad at ren.

and then it only gets worse because skizz tries to storm ren's tower with impulse after they've gone red. and that! doesn't go well! and while skizz is retreating, while he is eating the golden apple in his hot bar, ren shoots him dead.

and that is the last time they've spoken. two years ago.

because skizz isn't in doublt life. and ren isn't in limited life.

and when skizz's time comes in limited life, he ensures he doesn't have a golden apple in his inventory this time. this time, he hands the apples off to his teammates, where he knows they will go to good use. and then he hands etho a diamond fucking axe (red winter is coming) and asks him to execute him for the sake of their alliance. ok! sure! fill ren's role more explicitly, why don't you!

and that first session of secret life genuinely only made it worse. when skizz is talking to tango and cleo about their alliance, skizz says he wants to give leadership over to someone else: "i want to be more of a soldier than a leader this time." cleo says she'll fill the roll of leader- she doesn't take orders well - and then seals their alliance by giving tango and skizz a golden apple each. because of course she does.

and well, we all know that didn't really work out, so that's one person off the list that skizz can fill the dogwarts shaped hole in him with, so then he goes to bdubs. he says he'll lay his sword at bdubs' feet. he says he'll win bdubs with his loyalty. he calls bdubs "my leige", jesus christ dude, you couldn't be less subtle unless you straight up called him ren's name.

skizz has been (whether accidentally or on purpose is up to you) trying to recreate the experience he had with dogwarts, and particularly what he had with ren, since the moment dogwarts fell. he can't have it with ren because he missed his only chance in last life, so he'll fill the void with whoever he can. his fellow soldier. ren's successor. ren's new kingmaker. anyone. and it's never gonna work. i need ren to come back for like, 900 reasons, but i especially need him to come back so skizz can have a shot at making it to spring.

oh man. oh man okay. oh man so many thoughts. first of all SO proud of my boy joel smallishbeans lifeseries he was so anxious like a little puppy and he did it!! it’s about FAMILY

- grian v joel top two PVP went SO hard it was crazy! add that to grian telling joel like twenty minutes before that he’d give his life for him, and then going down swinging - so tasty. So Freaking Tasty.

- tango killing bdubs made me laugh so hard, especially with bdubs’ “oh i’m dead!” as he went. chihuahua-coded

- scar’s snail being what got him killed me. if not for the snails he would have done so much better omg

- also grian being like yeah, so glad scar died because now i can do the bamboozler trap without worrying about him. calling them strong allies. desert duo real

- gem. just. gem. i don’t know how she wins from this point on. because everyone knows how dangerous she is! she has a reputation! people were out for her blood so so quickly. and even if she made a bunch of allies and avoided dying for like a comically impressive amount of time - she really does have a target in her back! like what does she even do? does she just…pretend to throw? lost from being too good at the game.

- OH YEAH jimmy got flight!! and then grian got it! everything i wanted for the avian headcanons thank you random superpower gods

- pearl walking into her fifteen thousandth finale PVP, cigarette dangling from her lips, dead inside: “here we go again”

- no genuinely it’s so funny she’s been one of the top players in a comical amount of series she’s so good

- GRIAN!! his lines went SO hard! when he killed jimmy (and lizzie sorry lizzie) the line of like “it was always gonna end this way” was absolutely crazy. he said he’d take jimmy out of the series and he DID. and then when he escaped the tower the “not like mumbo, not like skizz, not like that, not today” was so fucking hard. that was insane. those lines went OFF

- which, also, fanon-lore-wise, the watcher going vengeful after the freed canary is fascinating.

- speaking of which, grian just. cannot be without his team. grian let skizz (and mumbo) be dead for like one episode challenge he can’t he just keeps bringing them back

- bigb dying to his snail first, and his last death being to his snail…poetic

- joel’s trap failing to kill him was chef’s kiss hilarious. sorry you suck at traps bud good thing you’re killer at pvp

- impulse i was rooting for you. impulse you just went down trying to hit the wrong guy i’m so sorry. you’ll get em next time. i wanted you to win :’(

- okay like, i saw this post about how the life series either has to end soon or the winners have to start letting themselves re-win to prevent the victories from being like “okay everyone gets one!” and like, i don’t know if it was excellent acting (and to be fair he did say he’d give his life for joel a few minutes beforehand) but grian looked like he was really gunning for that win. would’ve been fascinating! especially if you like watcher lore, the concept of him leaning so hard back into watcher abilities that he wins again is just so Tastey

- and to conclude: what a good fucking series. can’t wait to see what the fandom comes up with in terms of lore and headcanons and joel joining the winner’s pantheon! huge kudos to grian and the mods and the production team and everyone who contributed to this season. hilarious, entertaining, enthralling - what a good thing they’ve made. kudos and more kudos!
