Have you thought of doing a fic where Aaron and Reader are play fighting and Aaron ends up on top of reader? (Doesn’t have to be smut, but if you wanted…)
-🗣️
pinned down
i have not but now i'm OBSESSED cw; fem!reader, established relationship, small hurt to comfort, playful banter, fluff and some suggestion 💓
"Hi honey."
"Hi," you responded, keeping your face hidden in your drawer as Aaron entered the bedroom. He had stayed at the office late, kept by heaps of paperwork and reports. "Did you manage to get everything done?"
One thing about being in a relationship with a profiler, rarely anything got past him, noticing the smallest of shifts in your behavior. A slight change in the way you blinked, brief hesitation in your voice, even the way you held yourself could be enough for him to sense something was off.
Aaron didn't answer, but rather he came to your side, his hand finding your waist. It rest comfortably, his thumb grazing the exposed skin above your waistline. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," you answered flatly, rearranging your socks as a way to keep yourself occupied.
"You sure?" His tone wavered in question, unconvinced.
"Mhm." With a shrug, you shut the drawer.
It just hadn't been your day, to simply put it. It had started off bumpy, waking up on the wrong side of the bed. You got Jack to school a little late, spent much more time at a store doing a return than you would have liked, and then got drenched by an unexpected downpour on your way to your car. To top it off, you came back to find a parking ticket waiting for you, all thanks to the meter running out.
Now, you turned and made your way back to the bed, where the laundry basket was waiting. You grabbed Aaron's clean pajamas, setting those out for his convenience.
However, just as your fingers brushed the fabric of the next shirt, Aaron swiftly intervened. He placed the basket on the floor, far out of reach.
You weren't mad at him; it was more that you were looking for any excuse to let your frustration spill onto something else. You met his eyes, a really? plastered across your face. "Aaron."
His choice of rebuttal - grabbing ahold of your waist and throwing you onto the bed, landing with you in a soft thud.
"Aaron!" His name left you in a whine, soon blending into your laughter.
You attempted to wiggle out of his grasp, but his position on top allowed him the leverage to pin you down tightly. That, and the simple fact that he was much stronger than you.
A mischievous glint filled in his eyes, his lips curved in an amused, sly smile. "Yes?"
"Lemme go!" You squeaked, fighting against his hold which he solidly maintained. All your worries seemed to vanish in an instant; the lingering, heavy weight in the middle of your chest lessening as each laugh left you.
"I don't know about that."
"I can't breathe." Tears rolled out from the corner of your eyes due to laughing so profusely. While partially true, you hoped he'd take the bait.
He let go, and you switched tactics. With all your weight, you shifted yourself, slipping out from under him and overpowering him next. You nudged into his side, causing him to fall.
That left you smirking above, straddling him as you held tightly onto his forearms.
"That's cute, sweetheart." He gazed up at you affectionately.
"Is it?" You taunted as your chest rose up and down, a breathless giggle leaving you.
"Y'know," his head tilted, feigning a light, offended pout. "You never gave me a kiss when I got home."
It was too easy to fall for his trap, the temptation to kiss him overtaking the desire to hold onto any remaining grudges you still held against this morning and your local Virginia-state parking attendant. All of which would've been easier to bear if he had been with you. You suddenly found yourself missing him, despite the fact he was right here.
The second you leaned in to grant his request, he bumped his hips up, causing you to lose your balance and topple off him - over to the side and onto the comforter.
Only a few seconds later, you were caged in again; Aaron was top of you, pinning your hands above your head. You relaxed, your posture succumbing to the mattress below; an open invitation for him to have his way with you.
"Do you want to tell me what's bothering you?" His face was a few centimeters away from yours, your skin warming from the heat of his breath. He adjusted his grasp, using one hand to hold both your wrists.
"No," you answered, gazing up at him with a spark of playful defiance.
You also took a moment to enjoy the view above you. Aaron's dark eyes, the cowlicks hanging over his forehead, his broad chest (in which the buttons of his shirt were clinging to for dear life), his cologne filling your nose. You were surrounded by him entirely.
"Can you be persuaded?" His eyebrows rose teasingly, leaning in to press a few kisses along your jaw. He let his lips linger, before trailing to your neck and doing the same thing there. He craned back to meet your gaze, inquisitively.
"Maybe. Depends on how convincing you can be." You quipped back, with an almost impish smile that hinted at your mood. It was clear that whatever you'd been upset about, long gone now. You'd still share the reasoning, but in due time.
A delightful laugh escaped him, filled with warmth and fondness. "Is that a challenge, sweetheart?"

emt!marauders x fem!reader ♡ 1k words
You’re half propped up with your elbow on a step when you hear the front door open.
“Hello?”
“Hello!” comes James’ chipper reply, followed by Sirius’ groan and the clunking of shoes as he no doubt kicks them off, beelining for the couch. After a moment of you not appearing to greet them, James asks, “Where are you?”
“I’m—here.” You soften your voice when Sirius walks by the stairs, his step faltering as he locks eyes with you.
His eyebrows bunch, concerned before he really knows why. “What’re you doing?”
“I’m…” You shrug limply, trying on a helpless smile. Tears threaten to spill over from the way your eyes squish up. “I don’t feel right.”
Sirius has only taken his first, slow step toward you, bemusement written across his features, before James and Remus are behind him at the base of the stairs.
“Oh. Hi, angel.” James’ voice matches his expression, all gentleness, and worry hidden beneath counterfeit cheer. “Having a little lie down?”
“Yeah,” you say. Sirius’ touch is a relief as he reaches you. He cups your face and feels your forehead, brows stitched together. You’re happy to be in capable hands. “I started to fall, so I just laid down here. I’m a bit dizzy.”
There’s only so many of you that can fit on the stairs. James makes it to you next, crouching beside Sirius to take your hand in his and press his fingers to your pulse, so Remus is left peering over them both. He frowns, looking conflicted about his inability to help and worried in general. You try another smile for his sake; unfortunately, this time, the tears do spill.
“Hey, don’t do that,” Sirius says, no real chiding in his tone as he knuckles them from your cheeks.
“Sorry.” You force yourself to breathe, but new ones come anyway. It’s a slow sort of cry, the result of a good long while feeling sorry for yourself. “I just, I felt sick, so I tried to go upstairs to the toilet, but then I started to faint and I didn’t think I could make it back down to my phone, and I didn’t know when you would be home, or if anyone would find me…”
“We’re here now, though, sweetheart,” Remus stops you gently. “It all worked out alright. You’re okay.”
“Yeah.” You wipe underneath your eyes. “I think my blood pressure just dropped all of a sudden or something, but I still feel weird. It was scary.”
“I think you’re right,” James says. He runs his thumb over your wrist. “I mean, I’d like to think it’s just because we’re home and you’re pleased to see us, but your heart’s going pretty fast, m’love. How long ago did you lie down here?”
“I don’t know,” you reply, sniffling, feeling silly. “I don’t have my phone. Less than an hour, I think.”
Remus hums. “That’s still a long while.”
Honestly, you feel better just having your boyfriends here with you. Partly because of the security, of course, that you know you won’t faint and hit your head with no one to help you, but also, perhaps, there’s a small part of you that enjoys their fussing. The concerned set of Sirius’ brow, the way Remus’ mouth puckers thoughtfully, how James keeps rubbing his thumb over your wrist like he can soothe your heart back into its regular rhythm.
“Well, then.” Sirius pats your hip, rising from his crouch. “Not much point in figuring it all out here, is there? C’mon, pretty girl, that step has to be killing your side.”
It’s true; you think the edge of the step probably leaves an indent in your waist after you let Sirius haul you up, supporting you down the stairs and over to the couch.
“I don’t feel as dizzy as I was expecting,” you admit. “Maybe I was overreacting.”
“You?” Sirius exclaims, feigning astoundment.
“Better to be safe,” says Remus. He claims a spot next to you quickly, as though seizing his opportunity. It makes your lips tug. “I’m glad you were careful, love.”
You lean your head on his shoulder in a silent plea for coddling; he appeases you, pressing his lips to your hair while Sirius pinches the skin of your forearm gently. You watch him with mild interest.
“When was the last time you drank water?” he asks.
“Um…” You think back.
Sirius lets go of your skin and tuts. “Yeah, seems like it’s been long enough for you not to remember.”
“On it,” James announces, coming back from the kitchen with a large glass of water. He passes it to you over the back of the couch, and it’s so full a tiny bit spills over the rim onto your wrist, making you shiver. “It’s more common than you’d think for dehydration to do that to you. Gotta be careful.”
“Yes,” says Remus drily, though his arm comes around your shoulders. “Rather easily avoidable.”
You shrink, mumbling, “Sorry,” into your glass.
James awws and bends over the back of the couch to plant a kiss on your head, his good cheer restored, genuinely now. “We all forget sometimes, lovie.”
“Don’t enable her,” Sirius tells him. He cradles your arm in his hand, stroking the skin he’d pinched as though in apology for his treatment of it. “Don’t listen to him. It’s a grave oversight and you must repent forever.”
“Forever?” Your smile still feels weak, but you’re coming back to yourself some. “How will I do that?”
“Mm,” Sirius takes to kissing your arm instead, mumbling with a sternness that borders upon silly, “start with filling your water bottle every day before leaving the house, and at least three times after that.”
You go quiet, gaze sliding to Remus skeptically.
He raises an eyebrow. “What?”
“Is that…really how much I’m supposed to have?”
His other eyebrow lifts, too. “Yes.”
“Every day?”
“Yes.” Remus laughs, exasperated. “Yes, that’s the water intake your body needs.”
“There’s no way everyone’s doing that.”
“They’re not,” James agrees. “Instead, everyone is getting dizzy and calling us so we can go pick them up from halfway up the stairs.”
You bring the glass back to your lips, muttering, “I didn’t call, you just found me.”
James kisses your head again, fiercely. “And we always will, lucky girl.”

under pressure - lando norris (ln4)
୨ৎ : pairing : lando norris x fem!reader ୨ৎ : synopsis : you and lando have been best friends since childhood, but as lando’s struggles grow and his relationships with others become more public, you finds yourself battling your unspoken love for him.
୨ৎ : genre : romance, drama, friendship ୨ৎ : wc : 684
୨ৎ requested ୨ৎ // ୨ৎ masterlist ୨ৎ // buy me a ko-fi ☕️
lando walked into his apartment, looking completely wiped out. his hair was a mess, his eyes were barely open, and his shoulders were slumped like the weight of the world was on them. you didn’t even have to ask what kind of day he’d had. you could see it in his face. it was written all over him.
you were already sitting on the couch, scrolling through your phone, but when he stepped inside, you put it down without a second thought. he barely even looked up when he dropped his bag to the floor and collapsed onto the couch next to you.
"long race?" you asked softly, glancing at him.
he didn’t even respond right away. he just let out a heavy sigh and ran a hand through his messy hair. "i can’t even remember the last time i slept," he muttered, his voice rough.
you didn’t say anything for a moment. you knew when to give him space, and you also knew when he needed someone. he’d always needed you, just like you’d always needed him. but lately, things had started to feel… different. he was still the same lando you’d grown up with, but there was something in the air between you two now—something you couldn’t ignore, no matter how much you tried.
you let the silence hang for a while. you didn’t need to push him to talk. lando would tell you when he was ready.
“you don’t have to talk if you don’t want to,” you said quietly, your voice calm, reassuring. you just let your hand rest on the couch between you, your fingers lightly brushing the fabric. he knew you’d always be there for him.
after a few seconds, he let out a shaky breath, and you saw his eyes shift, like he was thinking about something he didn’t know how to say.
“it’s just… been hard,” he finally said, his voice cracking a little.
you could hear the exhaustion in his tone, see it in the slump of his shoulders. he didn’t even need to say anything else for you to know exactly what he meant. the race, the pressure, the constant noise of being in the public eye. you knew it was all getting to him. and if you were honest, you knew he wasn’t just tired from the race. it was everything that had been weighing on him lately.
“you’re always here for me,” he said after a beat, his eyes flicking over to you. there was something soft in his gaze, like he was grateful, but also a little sad. “i don’t know what i’d do without you.”
you smiled, but it wasn’t as easy as it used to be. “you don’t have to do anything alone, lando. you know that.”
he sighed and leaned back against the couch, his eyes starting to drift closed. you wanted to reach out, to touch him, to comfort him, but there was a part of you that held back. you’d been in love with him for so long now, but you’d never said anything. you thought he didn’t feel the same, and the last thing you wanted to do was make things awkward between you two.
so, you just sat there, close enough that you could feel his warmth, but far enough that it didn’t feel like you were pushing your luck. you kept your feelings hidden, hoping he would never notice.
lando shifted slightly, turning his head toward you. his voice was softer now, almost a whisper. “thanks,” he said, his eyes finally opening and meeting yours.
you nodded, your throat tightening. “always.”
and for a second, it was just the two of you, like it always had been. you could hear the quiet hum of the apartment around you, but in that moment, everything else felt distant. lando was right there, close to you, and you tried not to think about how much you wanted more.
but deep down, you knew you couldn’t have more. you were his best friend, and that was enough. or, at least, you tried to convince yourself that it was.

The silence in the room made every minuet feel like an eternity. No one dared to speak. You could feel your pulse rise as the clock hand inched closer to the number nine. This morning you had gotten ready on auto piolet, showered and once again put on your wrinkled shirt. You hadn’t bothered investing in any new clothing since you began working with Pietro. The lack of dress code made you feel like it wasn’t necessary, so this was still your most professional shirt. It was the same one you’d worn your first day here, now you worried this would be your last.
Sleep hadn’t come fast last night. You’d stayed up for hours running possible situations and outcomes, planning what you’d say for each one in excruciating detail. But by the time morning came all those preparations were gone from your mind. The only thing you could focus on was the memory of Wanda catching you in her office.
She looked so angry.
You blinked away the sting in your eyes and nose, not wanting to cry, not now at least. That could Wait till after the meeting, when you could lock yourself in the bathroom away from prying eyes.
The clock reached nine and the doors to the conference room flung open, Wanda entered leaving the door to slam shut behind her. Everyone in the room sat up straight and turned their attention to the red head, everyone but you. You couldn’t bring yourself to look, instead keeping your head down hoping the ground would swallow you whole.
“Good morning,” Wanda began as she retrieved some papers from her briefcase, “I know I’m taking you away from your work, but I wouldn’t have called this meeting if there wasn’t something important that needs to be discussed.” Her tone was polite, but anger was bubbling underneath. As she finished speaking her eyes scanned the room, eventually landing on you. Wanda faced twitched with annoyance at fact you weren’t looking at her. She cleared her thought before continuing. “Once I have everyone’s attention, I’ll tell you why you’re all here, or better why one of you isn’t.”
You took the hint and slowly raised your head, not expecting to find Wanda staring directly at you, stern eyes softening for a moment before hardening back over. Her words finally reached your brain, and you glanced quickly around table, the other interns seemingly doing the same.
Theo.
Theo wasn’t there. He hadn’t come in with Wanda, which was strange considering how he’d normally be following her around like a lost dog.
“I expect you to already know this, but Westview Paper is the most trusted news sources in the country,” Wanda paced at the front of the room, her voice and posture portraying nothing but power. “We take pride in being able to provide the American public with honest unbiased reporting. So what do you think might happen if an employee threatened that reputation?” She was now stood directly behind you; the room fell so silent you could hear your heart as it raced.
“They would be fired.” The silence was broken by an intern sat across from you. Despite his suit probably being worth more than you all make a month, fit him like a kid playing dress up in his days wardrobe, and he looked like he’d just been caught. Wanda let his words hang in the air for an uncomfortably long time.
“Yes, thank you Jake. They would be fired.” As Wanda moved back to the front of the room her fingers ghosted the nape of your neck, something so innocuous it could have easily been an accident. “Theo had gone behind my back, fed information about stories we were publishing to outsiders, and all to boost his stock portfolio.” Her voice dripped with distain. “He is no longer working here, in fact, he will no longer be working for any publisher this side of the Atlantic Ocean.” She gave her words time to breath, making sure we all understood the gravity of the situation. Your mind went back to yesterday, standing in her office when she came out angrily yelling down the phone, that’s what she was talking about.
“Now I called this meeting as a warning to all of you. You aren’t children anymore, this is the real world, your actions have consequences that go far beyond timeouts, or early bedtimes. So if any of you even think about trying anything that will tarnish the reputation of this organization, I want you to really consider what it means to throw your life away! A life that, I might add, for most in here was handed to them. Dismissed.” With every sentence her voice grew louder, the anger finally bubbling over as she slammed her fits onto the table.
There was a mad scramble for the door as everyone collected their things and piled out the room.
“Y/n, I want to have a word with you.” Wanda called out with a lingering trace of rage. The other interns turned to look at you as you awkwardly shuffled back from the door. Your anxiety was already high and now you truly felt like you were going to combust. It took a moment for the room to clear but once it had, and the door closed you jumped into speech.
“Ms Maximoff, I’m so sorry, Pietro said it was okay, not that it’s his fault, I should have never invaded your privacy like that.” The word vomit just kept coming. “I was just meant to drop off the magazine and leave, I shouldn’t have stayed as long as I did. I’m so sorry, I understand if you want to fire me.” With those last words your lip wobbled, and you could do nothing to stop the tears.
Wanda, who up until now had been watching you ramble with slight bewilderment, moved to comfort you. “Y/n. I’m not going to fire you, don’t be silly,” she shushed, placing a hand on your shoulder and motioning for you to sit down, “quite the opposite actually.” You sat down trying your hardest to steady your breathing. “What do you mean?” You asked, wiping your nose with your sleeve before Wanda instinctively handed you a tissue from the box on the table.
“First, I wanted to ask if you were okay.” She leaned in placing a gentle hand on your knee. “Yesterday, in my office, you left so quickly. I was worried about you.”
“You were worried about me?”
“Yes, y/n! I was because…” Wanda stopped herself and leaned back in her chair. “Because you are my employee, and I think you have a promising future here at Westview.” You go to speak but Wanda continues, “Which is why secondly, I wanted to ask if you would be interested in taking over as my intern. I can give you some time to think about…”
“Yes!” You blurted out a little louder than expected, your cheeks flushed as you saw Wanda’s shocked expression. “I mean yes Ms… I would… I’m sorry I didn’t mean to. It’s just… are you sure you want me?” Before you could start to spiral again, you were brought back to reality by the sound of Wanda giggling.
“I’ve wanted you from the start.” She stood up and began walking to the conference room’s door. “For the position of course.” She added before leaving.
As you sat alone in the room you couldn’t help it as a smile crept across your face. You were going to be her intern! Then the reality of the situation hit you. You were going to be her intern.

Hii! I love your writing. Do you think you could write one where Rafe is a single father of a 4-year-old son and he meets a reader, and then they start a relationship and she meets his son and well, they start being a family? I'd love something like that, thank youuuuu
lamy's note: sorry that this is so late! i hope you like it <3
rafe cameron’s life revolved around his four-year-old son, oliver. The little boy was his entire world, a bright spot in the sometimes chaotic life of a single father. mornings were a blur of packing lunches and tying shoelaces, evenings a mix of storytime and sleepy cuddles. it was a rhythm rafe had gotten used to, even if it left little time for himself.
one rainy afternoon, rafe and oliver ducked into a cozy little café to escape the downpour. oliver clutched his favorite dinosaur toy, his small hand wrapped tightly around rafe's fingers. the warm atmosphere welcomed them, the smell of fresh coffee and pastries wrapping around them like a comforting hug. they found a table near the window, where oliver could watch the raindrops race down the glass.
as rafe settled into his seat, his eyes drifted across the room and landed on you. you were seated a few tables away, engrossed in a book, your fingers playing absently with your hair. there was something about you—maybe the peaceful way you seemed lost in your own world—that caught his attention. it had been a long time since he had felt that pull, the quiet intrigue of wanting to know someone.
oliver’s voice pulled him back. "daddy, can I have a cookie?"
"after lunch, buddy," rafe replied, ruffling his son’s hair. "let’s get something to eat first."
when the barista brought their sandwiches and a small cookie for oliver, rafe took the chance to glance your way again. to his surprise, you were looking back, a soft smile on your lips. it was enough to stir something inside him, a quiet encouragement to make a move he hadn’t considered in a long while.
gathering his nerve, rafe stood and walked over to your table, oliver trailing behind him. “hi,” he said, his voice warm but a bit unsure. “do you mind if we sit here? my son has a lot to say about dinosaurs, and i’d love a little adult conversation.”
your smile widened as you nodded. “of course. I could use some dinosaur facts myself.”
as rafe and oliver settled into seats across from you, the conversation flowed easily. rafe learned that you were new in town, working as a teacher at the local elementary school. you asked about his work and how he managed to juggle everything as a single parent. there was a natural chemistry, an ease in the way you spoke, the laughter that bubbled up between shared stories.
oliver, ever the chatterbox, quickly took a liking to you. he proudly showed off his toy, launching into an animated explanation of why the t-rex was the king of dinosaurs. you listened with genuine interest, your enthusiasm making oliver beam with pride.
by the time the rain had stopped, it felt as though you’d known each other much longer than just a single afternoon. before you left, rafe asked for your number, a hopeful gleam in his eyes. “maybe we could do this again sometime? without the rain.”
you agreed, your heart fluttering at the prospect.
in the weeks that followed, the two of you saw more of each other. rafe would pick you up after work, oliver bouncing in the back seat, eager to share his day. dinners turned into outings at the park, where oliver’s giggles echoed through the playground, rafe's hand finding yours as you watched him play. the three of you fit together seamlessly, like a puzzle you hadn’t known was missing a piece.
one evening, after oliver had been tucked into bed, rafe invited you to stay for a late-night movie. the living room was cozy, the soft glow of the tv casting shadows on the walls. you sat close, the warmth of his arm around your shoulders, the quiet intimacy of the moment stretching between you.
when the movie ended, neither of you moved, the silence filled with unspoken words. rafe turned to you, his eyes searching yours. "i've really missed this," he said softly. "having someone to share my life with. i'm glad it's with you"
you reached for his hand, threading your fingers through his. "me too."
the kiss that followed was tender, a slow, gentle meeting of lips that spoke of more than just attraction—it was a promise of what could be. as you leaned into him, the weight of loneliness lifted, replaced by the warmth of a growing love.
in the months that followed, you became a part of their lives in every way. weekends were spent building blanket forts with oliver, evenings filled with quiet moments on the couch, your laughter mingling with rafe’s as you recounted the day’s events.
the day oliver called you "mommy" for the first time, your heart swelled with emotion. rafe squeezed your hand, his eyes shining with gratitude and love.
you were no longer just a visitor in their lives. you were family, a bond formed through shared moments, love, and the quiet understanding that together, you had built something beautiful.

Jungkook’s cigarette is wet.
The paper, encased around it, is nearly translucent enough to expose the leaves of the tobacco inside, the very tethered parts of his burning soul. The rain pelts down on him hard, brisk and icy like bullets, but its droplets soften and grow warm once they seep inside the thick, thumping vein along the column of his throat. His hair is soaked, a few of his freshly cut strands rounding over his forehead clouding his vision. Normally, he’d get one long and thorough look at you, finish his cigarette in but a few sucks and return to his car, but tonight he can’t. Neither can he afford to get sick, not when he’s studying exhausting hours deep into the night just to secure your financial well-being and freedom, but right now, despite the risk, he can’t take his eyes off of you.
You’re playing a dangerous game. As a matter of fact, you’ve always been with your flirtiness and your delicious perversion, but the boss-defeating level he finds himself to be in is not something he can handle so easily. It’s blanketed in a light layer of the possibility of his life permanently changing, and he can’t run from it. Not when he’s frozen in this speed of time while his wobbly, jelly limbs long to be in your proximity.
In any textbook image example of his romantic relationship with you suggests the very opposite of this sketch he’s being drawn into by your hand. Before all else, the charcoal pencil should’ve been in his tattooed fingers. The big bad boss should’ve been him, and you should’ve been the brave princess with her sword, small before him, but more powerful with her spirit and fearlessness, getting impaled on his dick time and time again before you conquer him, at last.
In this ashy, starless scene, you’re the boss and he’s the princess.
You’re flashing your tits at him through the window of your bedroom and he’s sporting a boner so astronomical that he couldn’t sit down inside his car even if you, yourself, asked him to. Made puppy eyes, put your palms together and rubbed them in a childish gesture, pleading him with the pout that he knows you’re very capable of doing. The pout that started this habit of his—driving up to your street, despite the fact he lives an hour away, just to ensure your safety, just to be certain that you’re well and not staining your pillow with black mascara tears.
There’s enough blackness in your heart from the wrongness and unfairness that life feeds you, and he’s decided to take the spoon and fill it with something sweet. Like attention, like protection, like your dreams and wishes fulfilled. Because he saw you as a small kitten, underfed and yet loaded with such a large burden of ill-luck that every morsel of his being just couldn’t stand to see it anymore.
He met you in a strange place at a strange time.
Jungkook wasn’t supposed to be in Gangnam that day, but one of his soon-to-be pawns in the city of Seoul unintentionally let him in on one of the underground crimes that have been going on in that district. His plan for the night was supposed to be filled with driving around Hongdae just to make sure all the girls were safe. It was Friday, the most sinful day of the week; 9:30 pm, the start of all depraved entertainment, brought out from the depths of all the dark souls of empty people. The girls needed him, but when Jungkook heard from Taehyung that the little bitches called men have been dealing drugs in the bathroom of Starfield Library, the girls had to be good and they had to wait.
The heart inside his inner child ached at the thought that the place, where he used to spend his happy days before they were gone, was getting stained by something so horrendously evil as drugs. Taehyung was putting on his police uniform as the information slipped past his lips and while Jungkook’s heart stopped, it became burdened by his secret, not so secret in reality, dream even more heavily than ever before. He no longer saw him as a pawntruth be told, he wanted to become a police officer ever since he saw Kiki’s Delivery Service as a young boy before things got bad and having him as his best friend and a neighbor at the same time just offered a crevice of open space for his dream to come true. But Taehyung stalled… until he didn’t.
Upon seeing the look on his face, he tipped his head low, sighed, and told him to come with him. And together they drove to Gangnam up to the COEX Mall. All the while Jungkook bounced his knee and sensed a dreadful feeling slithering down his sternum for a reason he couldn’t simply figure out.
He couldn’t shake off his nervousness even as they got out and he lit up his cigarette. Taehyung told him off, reminded him that the library closes soon, and, nodding, Jungkook took two more puffs before he let the instrument of sweet death plummet to the ground. His better-knowing murmured to him that he should’ve left his heart behind, too, but being loyal to the wretched flesh, Jungkook never learned the language of his logic.
He saw you long before you saw him, going up the white keys of stairs beside Taehyung, taking two at the time. Your short limbs were reaching a shelf above your head, trembling in tension, your form elevated by the way you were standing on your tippy toes. The higher he went, the clearer his glimpse was of your thighs, embellished by a black cotton to keep them warm in the cool spring. The band digging into the flesh entranced him, trapped him to you as if by ropes of mercifulness because that was the most beautiful sight he was graced to witness. He had seen many pretty girls during his late night drives of heroism, but none of them possessed such a pure, alluring kind of beauty that made his heart tighten in his chest.
And the flesh was outright asphyxiated by the following cognizance of your full outfit.
Lifting his foot over the last step, Jungkook perceived that your thigh-high socks were held up by thin slits of garters, uncovered by the riding up of the skirt of your dress. There was no air in his lungs, no command in his brain to keep on walking after Taehyung. There was an absolute silence between the synapses as he stood there, unbreathing, his eyes skimming over the smooth skin of the back of your thighs, the well-fittedness of your short dress, which had an open back beneath the waterfall of your long hair. But it wasn’t bare, not by any chance. As if the thickness of your strands wasn’t enough, you filled the gap with a white shirt, and Jungkook was stunned.
The spell was disrupted when the books, one by one, began to fall over your head, despite the fact you succeeded in getting the one you wanted. Disrupted and not broken because while he knew Taehyung was inching closer to the crime scene, his instinct won over his stupefaction and gave the order to his legs to rush over to you. It felt natural to him, the act of grabbing your arms and pulling you flush to him, to a place of safety, although he was a stranger, a guy and he had no right to touch you like that. Anyone in his shoes would just shout at you to move away, but the spell didn’t allow his logic to filter through his actions. You gasped, nearly tumbled down to the ground along with him, but Jungkook was stronger. Jungkook didn’t let you plummet to the ground like his cigarettes—he held you steady to him, balancing you on your feet, and his heart began to ache, like it did when he heard of the drug-dealing, and age when you lifted a palm and placed it over your forehead, mewling a pained noise through your pouting mouth.
He wasn’t fast enough. An overgrown bush of overprotective roots took form in his black lungs, tangled in the long strands of your hair as you softly trembled like a kitten in his arms. He was no longer a boy, delirious with his need to color the streets with justice and safety; he was a man of fatherly compulsions, organic instincts to never let you disappear from his secure hand again. It happened that quickly—it happened that devastatingly that he himself was dumbfounded by it all.
Dumbfounded and… much to his surprise: pleased.
Jungkook didn’t cleave to love. While his heart hungered to envelop its love around that special person it wished for, he simply couldn’t conform. Couldn’t open the chambers of his heart and let out the horrors—the fights, the violence, the blood, the silent screams and the ungratified needs, left abandoned by those closest. He was afraid to allow himself to be loved; and he was afraid of being only capable of sharing the darkness in return, not his love—the small, wounded bunny hiding somewhere in him, every day concealing itself deeper and deeper. That was why he never even looked twice at the girls he saved, let alone touched them, let alone allowed them to bathe him in feelings that were pleasant.
Strange, the moment that was uncoiling. His actions and their unfolding, and his lack of carefulness and detachment.
The toppling misfortune finished its course, the dull sound of the books hitting the floor halted, and within this abrupt silence, Jungkook felt the hammering of your heart, kicking against his upper abdomen, softening him. And in spite of everything, he turned you around to examine your reddened forehead as if he weren’t Jungkook at all, but someone else. Someone healthy and full of light within his mind, heart and soul, who doesn’t create boundaries and doesn’t hiss and thump his legs back when someone crosses them. This new person eyed the pebble-sized bump poking through the skin, which wrinkled through the furrow of your brows. His lips downturned in pity for you, but he knew pressing the injury with a packet of frozen veggies would fix it by the morning. You were lost in the pushing acuteness of the pain, perhaps not even realizing that you were saved. Your set of wispy eyelashes were quivering like the rest of you and while this new person was desperate for you to look at him, it wasn’t until Taehyung called his name that you did.
But it was too late, the moment was too brief, and the old Jungkook settled over him like a layer of dust.
However, the mutual meeting of eyes kickstarted his dead heart, bringing forth life through the chambers and the vessels like a petal drifting upon the smooth surface of a river. Jungkook fought it with his old weapons, but as the seconds ticked, he became smaller and smaller, the power of the connection looming over him, scaring him and soothing him soon after by the way your eyes widened in surprise and melted right after. As if into his; as if into him.
The old and the new Jungkook began to coexist within him, closing over the bunny.
He didn’t realize he was gone and no longer holding you until Taehyung grabbed a hold of his shoulder, stopping him from colliding his fist into the small-postured drug dealer’s face, who was momentarily stuffing a plastic bag of evil into the toilet tank. It was rage that simmered between the halves of his two personas fading into each other, a yin and yang, not because the abomination was caught as is usually the cause, but because the light and the dark merged within him, bringing him out of his comfort zone into a zone he blanched in panic in.
He didn’t know that you watched the entire time. That you watched him curse at the boy, take the drug from him and nearly flush it down the toilet, if Taehyung hadn’t stopped him. He didn’t know that you’d stick around just to talk to him, had the library not closed.
And he didn’t know that he would meet you again.
And again.
At dangerous places, where you didn’t belong—like his mind when he was ceaselessly fist-fucking his cock before dawn. At safe places, where you painted the walls with your gentleness and simultaneous misfortune, your own yin and yang.
He didn’t expect you to make the first move each time, gazing up at him with a soft smile, making small talk that was more flirty than it was polite. It was hard for him to handle as the strange, fatherly and tender feelings he carried for you, belonging to the new half of him, brewed in him like loose pomegranate tea leaves. Each question you threw his way was that leaf, and the intonation you used, the curiosity, the roundness of your eyes and their constant melting was the fragrance of that fruit, cutting through him until he was nothing but a fragment of a boy in love.
He couldn’t leave. The yang of his split persona wouldn’t give the blessing to him in order for him to do that. And what’s more, he dreamed revolting dreams about shattering your heart with his fluid absence and presence, the black and white easing into one another, and it helped him stay put. He feared sleeping, he feared hurting you, and so he just abused his cock, releasing the endorphins that his body needed in order to sustain this whole newness.
And therefore like the boy he was chiseled into, he took your first moves once the time was right and undisturbed. Took them higher. Took you out for ice cream, where your flirtiness shifted both of you to this point of your love story. All because of the way you licked the sweet delight.
You swirled your tongue along its dissolving perimeter. Ivory in color, its drops dribbled down the cone, resembling the essence of his everlastingly drooling manhood that he had wasted many times prior this date, trying not to picture you in his mind. He cursed the ice cream shop as much as he blessed it for having a vanilla flavor so well-made that it rolled your eyes back during the conversation you spurred about his dreams that shone a dimmed light in his heart. He was hard, unable to speak in a steady flow, pausing between words, watching you, always watching you, enjoy your dessert while not having his own. Watching you half listen to him, half making love to the milky substance with your eyes, your focus diverting back and forth—silently gushing your gusto, silently apologizing to him with the bat of your eyelashes for not adequately paying attention. It made you adorable enough for him to fight the crawling inkling to take this an inch higher, bending you over any nearby surface away from people—because he loved the way you constantly spoke your innermost thoughts, your flirtiness especially, through the different expressions of your eyes. They spoke more profoundly than the vocabulary of your mutual mother tongue could ever achieve.
But he couldn’t follow through with his desire. His sixth sense muttered over his arousal, reminding him there was always a danger close by. By its own sinister will, it interrupted, in an excruciating staccato rhythm, the sensation of heat, pressure and energy he felt, putting it on the back burner. A place he liked to linger because it made him feel alive—the unyielding push and pull of temptation, the fight, the guilt because the fatherliness always won. But his sixth sense was right. Jungkook caught a vulgar string of words about you from the table behind him in a short moment of quietness within his brain. He turned his head to the side, listening, and when the meaning of the words multiplied with the description of you, he banged his fists and impulsively acted out, getting up to his feet.
He flipped the table. Grabbed the collar of the boy who stole his guilty pleasure and made it his own. Seethed in his sweaty face; threw words at him that made him tremble in fear until he begged to be let go. Jungkook saw a vibrant red—he didn’t see how he startled you, how all the people in the sitting area stopped whatever conversations they were having just to stare, how all the employees gulped behind the counter, but didn’t dare to step in. That was the face of his wildness, molded by all he went through, shown to you ahead of time—or perhaps at the right time. He wouldn’t know, and he was too reluctant to contemplate it.
He didn’t calm down until he made the boy apologize to you. Then, he fixed the table and put it to its original spot. Then, he made you feel better by brushing a strand of your hair behind your ear, grazing his fingers down your arm until he found your hand, murmuring a soft sorry for scaring you. Then, he went to the petrified employees and apologized to them, too, for the commotion.
You also wanted to make him feel better.
Inside his car, you caressed the tense muscles of his thigh. Just once—a slow, downward motion of your palm that made him twitch. He noted the milky flakes of the dessert you had discarded dried on your lips and he hoped your eyes hadn’t strayed to his private parts—that you didn’t notice the agonized twitch of his cock that regretfully longed for you.
In this area of your relation with him, the yin won.
He put your safety above his own arousal and need, minimizing it. Grabbed the hand that had the candy-coated intention to make him feel better and kissed it in polite thankfulness, knowing your soundness that he had taken care of did the job already.
You pouted at his declination, and his heart crumbled into pomegranate seeds.
Had he known this would start off your irresistible perversion, he would’ve somehow make it so he could let you do whatever it was that you wanted to do with your hand. Because the fatherliness, which he tried with all his might to preserve in utmost purity, darkened the more you wanted him.
Darkened the more you teased him.
With your garters and your knee socks. With your short skirts that exposed the lines of your bubble butt, which he tugged down many times, his heart racing, afraid any of the horny fucks with wrong intentions walking by would see. With your innocent smiles, mischievous eyes and light touches on the places of his body that he discovered were of utter sensitivity—the crook of his elbow, into which you liked to dig your nails, the left side of his ribs, where you somehow detected his mole, his nipple that you enjoyed teasing just to watch him convulse, and his thigh, the straight pathway to his arousal. Sometimes you went higher, sometimes you went lower—and it tested his patience every single time.
All broke loose once you conveyed, with your words, how much you wanted him after some time passed.
You let him know you were hungry. It was the warmest spring evening you had in months and Jungkook was on his patrol. Seeing the text, he turned the car around and drove up to your street. Picked you up, asked you what you were craving and beside the Subway sandwich, you mentioned that you were craving him, too. As if it were the most ordinary, casual thing in the world.
He stomped on the break so hard that the vehicle behind him honked at him.
Scolded you in a fatherly way that coaxed an endearing giggle out of you. You can’t say things like that, he said, shooting you a glare that made you clench your thighs—and Jungkook wished that he hadn’t noticed.
That he hadn’t noticed being bad turned you on even more.
Then the touches were prolonged. The eye contact was intensified, the interlude of silence between you and him was boiling to such a hot temperature that he sweltered beneath his clothes in your presence, sporting a stony hard-on, which was difficult to get rid of.
And then the confessions began.
The more detailed confessions of your desire, of your liking in terms of his countenance. Of what your fingers were doing in the middle of the night because of your sentiments.
Jungkook didn’t respond. Not at first. He fought so hard to stay pure, stand behind the boundary of purity, unwilling to stain you with his own desire. He was a boy, marred by the times, with a caretaker’s heart, aged by many years, with a soul that brings death. He was afraid of what would be created, if his death mingled with your misfortune. If the bunny of his love had a glimpse of your melting eyes. If his own desire collided with yours. If he cut the ropes of his restraint and broke himself loose along with the trajectory of his untitled relationship with you.
Hell would envelop you. Hell would embrace you so tight that you’d start to despise him.
Because he wasn’t a good person. All the evil he had witnessed clung to him like second skin, peeling off of him like scales, like dirt. The evil he had consumed while living with his family; the evil he had stepped into in order to bring goodness. Jungkook would feed spoonfuls of it to you because every morsel of his being embodied it.
He said this to you, in less harmful words, upon an ordinary car drive through the night when you were starting to get jittery. It would be better if I just took care of you without touching you. He never added the fatherliness he felt towards you into the stream of his speech—he was too shy to do so. He was already flushed in the face; he worried confessing it would trouble his composure. And he needed to be a strong wall for you.
But you were a smart girl.
Devouring his words, you lifted the hem of your skirt. Your legs were still, no hint of jitteriness to them at that abrupt cusp of unraveling desire, when you parted them on the passenger seat and showed him the circle of your arousal on the center of your white panties. This is what you do to me when you talk about treating me like a father.
His blood flow halted. His heart leaped to his throat, the aroma of pomegranate filling his mouth. He edged to the border of his restraint and thought about, briefly, how he would edge you for your smartness. How he would drink the sweetness of your seashell when he would finally let you come; how it would refresh the tobacco of his soul, make him a better person, a better partner. He imagined how the smell of your arousal would linger in the car for days—how it would be a reminder that there’s goodness for him in this world while he would go on doing his job of saving it.
The black and white conclusively coalesced, creating a shade of gray that densely clouded his reasons and his morals.
And because this notion occupied his stomach with hundreds of butterflies, the decision was made. Hasty, and probably catastrophic, but he no longer cared. He fell in love with the idea of him being saved, even if it meant decorating your pretty thighs with scars. Give me some time, he said eventually. I’ll rub your scars with a healing oil, he didn’t promise.
And the detachment, which he was so inquisitive about all those months ago, nestled between you and him. The conversations, which used to be so abundant with passion and liveliness, echoed with the low tones of the trees, of the soft songs of the birds and the ringing of his mind as he completely descended into an abyss of dejection. He didn’t know why he entered this state; it just happened on its own. He no longer had the energy to save the girls of Seoul, nor did he have the strength to face you and be a man. The little life he had left—he used it to fulfill his obligations: he drove to your place after he had done his daily dose of studying and homework. Picked himself up just to make sure you were all right. And if your room lacked any light, it would motivate him enough to go into the streets and look for you.
He’d find you each time, envious and disheartened that you weren’t spending time with him. Go home and cry his colorless tears.
And now he’s here, standing underneath the foreboding downpour, in the present time after a month of idleness, in the middle of the night. His car is parked behind him, the headlights filtering through the thick shafts of rain, illuminating him. His pallid hands are bearing two things in each. A wet cigarette, a spoon that has been washed off the original poison of his life and that is now overspilling with everything nourishing. All because of your pressed-up tits against the window, the fast-paced rivulets of rain blurring the view.
You’ve yanked the time by its throat. You’re the boss and you’ve decided that all waiting is over.
He’s not sure what he’s feeling right now. If it’s absolute fury that is invigorating his system or if it’s distilled passion that is constricting his muscles so much that it’s causing him to quiver. There’s some kind of need in the heart of it all, which smudges all of his attempts at analyzing until they get swept away with the current of the rain. In this very second, there’s no ticking of danger, no deafening silence of dejection, no promise of evil. There’s only one singular thing.
The ropes are torn: he has to have you.
You did this. You cut them instead of him, and that’s all that is pulsating in his mind as he takes the last drag of his sodden cigarette and lets it plummet, lets it burn away to nothingness. His steps are heavy and his steps are furious—and you seem to know because you unpeel yourself from the coolness of the window and skip away beyond his sight. He trusts that your smartness leads you to open the main door for him, and he’s not disappointed when he reaches it and hears its ringing song, inviting him inside.
The song of fate.
You’re waiting for him between the panels of your door on the third floor, dressed in a short nightwear dress of ivory and lilac, lace and bows. Entering your presence, Jungkook is made pliable by the strong cognizance that he’s missed you. Your hair cascades in waves down your bare shoulders, the barest he’s ever seen them, nuzzling into your cleavage that advances his softness and his concurring arousal. You’re pristine and fragrant while he drips in sweat and petrichor laced with cigarette smoke, but he wants you and he wants to punish you for putting him in this position so audaciously.
And for not wearing your thigh-high socks when he wishes you were.
The furrow of his brows deepens, knitting in the middle, and once your eyes flick to it, you breathlessly gasp, those pretty thighs of yours crossing to make friction for your little pussy. It feels as though you were all naked and he’s overwhelmed, he’s furious, he’s frustrated and—
His hand presses against the middle of your clavicles and draws you inside, kicking the door shut.
He’s tender, however, despite his impulses. He’s tender as he pushes you down onto your couch, his fingers latching onto the lacy neckline. The feeling of a warm home he never had sticks to his fingertips from your skin—and it’s clearer to him now than it ever has been before: you’ve become a four-walled home for him through all the time he spent with you on innocent dates and car drives, protecting you and consoling you from the impact of your engraved misfortune. The sensation on the pads of his fingers jumps to the other ones and tingles as they wrap around the buckle of his belt, capturing the interest of your eyes that widen and very quickly and very quintessentially melt.
You see how hard he is for you.
Good.
Now you can. Now it's yours.
He swiftly tugs his belt out of the loops with one hand, bending the leather in half. Your smile rises at that, and while you rake your hand through your hair at the crown of your head and arch your cold chest into his other hand, Jungkook watches you part your legs for him. And time stops when he expects there to be a cloth of any pastel color covering your pussy and finds there to be none.
None at all.
Mustering all of his strength, he rips his gaze away. Points the belt in your face. He can’t see your little pussy, not just yet. He has to punish you first for stealing his first move for the second time around, for triggering his flight or fight response because he wasn’t ready for this—he wasn’t ready to have his control taken, for his detachment and restraint to be broken so promptly. He should’ve laid it down at your feet, having cut it himself. Then, it would've been pure; it would’ve been right.
Nothing about this is of those attributes.
This is dark, this is sinful, and you’re gonna pay for it.
“Repeat back to me what I told you the last time I saw you,” he orders, bringing your eyes back up to him as he towers over you, stinging your lips with the coolness of the wet leather, seemingly coaxing out your words. Your breath shivers at the contact, changing the temperature, mouth parting like your legs as he moves it down to your chin. You run your tongue along its bottom pillow as soon as he drags the belt down the upper of your sternum, the very place he touched with his own hand. He stops at the swell of breast right next to his fist bunching up your nightdress, the accessory lifting and falling with your short intakes of air.
The rain pelts harder against the window. You evidently mull over your answer, blinking slowly at him, dazy from it all—and it’s funny to him. He hasn’t even started, and he’s way too far away from being finished with you.
“You mean what you said to me a month ago? How am I supposed to remember?” you question, the words oozing with every particle of provocation that exists within this irredeemable world. Jungkook knows more than he knows himself that you’re bluffing and he sucks in a breath, his frustration piling up on top of his clenched muscles. His hand longs to lift and spank your visibly stiffened nipple for your smart mouth, but he holds himself back—the time isn’t right yet. He wonders if your pointed beads are still cold from the window or if he needs to suck them into his mouth to warm them up.
His cock flits. Jungkook struggles to contain his noises, growling hushedly under his breath. One corner of your mouth tugs to the side when they encompass you, producing your satisfaction, and it pisses him off even more.
His fist unclenches, letting go of your neckline. The fabric is wrinkled and stretched, ruined until the next wash, and that fact likens him to you, cooking the ingredients of satisfaction for him. Power seizes him, and therefore he stoops to your level, bending at the waist to look you straight in the face. The belt follows suit, stopping at your flushed cheek.
It wasn’t that long ago when you were mewling in pain, the same redness spreading across your forehead. Where is that meekness of yours, your girlishness, your softness? Where has his detachment gone again and why does your malleability madden him so tremendously?
His fatherliness unfurls in full glory, his need to discipline you consumes him alive.
“Watch your mouth,” he spits in undertone, patting your cheek with the belt just once. Light flashes in your eyes, a candle swished by the wind. “I know you remember well, you can’t trick me, so again I tell you. Repeat back to me my last words to you.”
And you do the most unimaginable thing, setting him on fire. Word for word, you repeat back the sentence he uttered but a half minute ago. A serious delivery, with a static contortion, camouflaging your mischief, and he becomes the image he saw in your eyes.
A tall candle, melting.
His fury and frustration should continue on. Should grip the belt hard and paint welts on the flesh of your thighs and bum. But the more your perversion radiates him, the more he loses. The bunny of his love gazes back at you from its hiding place, casting its first glimpse at you, and makes the first move to slightly exit the deep darkness.
First move; first step. Curiosity eclipses the white fur of the bunny, the white dot across the blackness of the yin half. Its wide, almond eyes are unblinking, captivated by you, by your forcefulness, stubbornness and your immaculate beauty. By the way you breathe evenly, by how unafraid you are. So full of everything adventurous, like the books you read, which fill every space of your apartment.
The animal is smitten with you. Jungkook stands outside of his own body, wondering if there’s any line at all between the grayness that has been created. If there’s any backing away from the blatantly obvious fact that he loves you.
That he can’t stay mad at you.
That his need to discipline you truly stems from his profound love for you.
“You think you’re the Daddy?” he mutters, at last, the correction of dynamics coming naturally out of him. He silences you with his question, creasing your features, and his satisfaction is a finished meal. The first bite you’ll ever have; the first spoonful. “I’ll show you who’s Daddy.”
And then he grips your throat and forces your lips to collide with his. Breathing in your skin is the first intake of fresh air he’s ever had. This is his first kiss, his first life—and when you reciprocate his kiss and submit to his feverish rhythm, it is the first warm, home-cooked meal he’s ever devoured. The sky falls and is born again, and he, too, is born anew.
You lean back, relinquished, and Jungkook straddles you, his knees making dents on either side of you upon the plush of your couch. The belt falls, his walls fall, and he has to touch you. His fingers crawl up from your ears into the garden of your hair, gripping the roots, moaning into your mouth and you respond just the same. Opening your mouth, you give him access to your tongue and your spit—and he drinks, he drinks as if it were the angelic fountain that had the expertise to cleanse him of his old life. And he lets it.
Clenches and unclenches his fingers, tangled in your hair, the symbol of his green light because he’s safe with you.
He’s safe with you.
Your hands blindly find your favorite spots on his body. They knead his thighs as he sucks on your pout, his abstained dream come true. They ascend to his clothed ribs under his jacket, lingering there, ostensibly seeking the bunny, not knowing that the animal has begun to look for the way out. Your moans gain volume and sensitivity, and Jungkook knows you can’t take it anymore.
Neither can he. He’s hard to the point of bursting.
And when he latches his mouth onto the side of your neck and your moans lighten to little mewls akin to those he missed, he doesn’t allow you to sink your nails into the last place you love on him. He pushes you face down onto the couch and grabs his discarded belt.
He’s going to make that little girl stay.

it was a normal morning. seungmin had woken up to the sound of jisung dramatically singing in the shower, half-dressed and flinging water everywhere like they were in some kind of k-drama opening sequence. he had stepped over piles of jisung’s clothes, debated throwing one of his textbooks at him, and had finally settled at his desk, groaning at the mess around him. it was too early for this.
and yet— knock. knock. knock. the loud, rhythmic knocking echoed through their shared dorm. jisung, now out of the shower, poked his head out from the bathroom, toothbrush still in his mouth. "you expectin' someone?" seungmin stared at him. and then his eyes widened. oh no. he was expecting someone. before he could even get up, the knocking intensified—faster, louder, insistent. jisung pulled his toothbrush out of his mouth and smirked. “that’s a very excited knock.” seungmin scowled. “shut up.” the knocking was immediately followed by a singsong voice. “seungminnnn~ open up!” jisung practically lit up. “oh my god.” he gasped. “is that—” seungmin groaned, pushing past him and heading for the door. and when he opened it— y/n stood there, practically glowing in the morning light, wearing sneakers that looked like they had been through war.
in her hands?
two matcha lattes in takeout cups.
a small bag of pastries.
and another little package tied up neatly with string.
she grinned up at him. “good morning, seungminnie.”
he deadpanned. “never call me that again.”
she giggled and stepped inside, unfazed by his immediate rejection.
seungmin closed the door behind her. “you’re early.”
she hummed. “i like being early.”
“of course you do. isn't that why you were always early to our study sessions at the café?”
jisung, still standing by the bathroom, towel draped over his shoulders, wiggled his eyebrows.
“so this is what you two were doing instead of the café.”
y/n turned to him, brightening. “jisung! good morning.”
seungmin crossed his arms. “don’t entertain him.”
too late.
jisung grinned. “are those for me?”
y/n gasped, clutching the drinks to her chest. “no.”
jisung pouted. “not even the pastries?”
“i brought these for seungmin and me,” y/n stated proudly. “and these—” she wiggled the little package tied with string, “—are homemade treats for star.”
seungmin blinked.
she baked for his dog.
for his dog.
well, star was hers first but you get the point.
“wow,” jisung muttered, shaking his head in amazement. “so this is what love looks like.”
seungmin threw a pillow at him.
“get out.”
jisung dodged with ease, snickering as he padded toward his room. “i’ll leave you two alone. have fun being married.”
seungmin turned to y/n, about to say something—
only to find her already halfway to the couch, scanning the room excitedly.
“where’s star?” she asked, looking around like an impatient kid.
seungmin sighed. “he’s in my room.”
y/n immediately made a beeline for his door.
“y/n, don’t just barge in—”
too late.
she had already swung the door open, stepping inside like she owned the place.
and then— her heart melted. because there, curled up in a nest of blankets on seungmin’s bed, was star.
his golden fur was slightly tousled from sleep, his body curled into himself, peaceful, warm. and when he lifted his head, his dark brown eyes blinking sleepily— y/n felt her entire soul leave her body.
“hi, baby,” she whispered, stepping closer.
star’s ears perked. his nose twitched. he recognized her.
in an instant, his tail thumped against the mattress, his body wiggling with excitement.
y/n squealed. “you remember me!”
seungmin leaned against the doorway, watching as star launched himself off the bed and into her arms. y/n caught him, stumbling slightly as she hugged him tight, her face buried in his fur.
she giggled, pressing soft kisses to his head. “i missed you.”
seungmin rolled his eyes. “it’s been one day.”
y/n ignored him completely, pulling out the treats she had baked.
“look what i made for you, star,” she cooed, untying the package. “i made them with lots of love.”
seungmin snorted. “he’s a dog, not a boyfriend.”
y/n gasped, scandalized. “seungmin, take that back.”
“no.”
she glared. “you’re lucky i brought you a latte.”
“yeah, yeah.” he waved her off. “come on, let’s start the project.”
she pouted but followed him to the table, star happily munching on his treat at her feet.
seungmin slid into the chair across from her, sipping the matcha latte she brought.
(he wasn’t going to admit it, but it tasted really good.)
y/n, on the other hand, was already distracted.
“you know, seungmin,” she mused, sipping her drink. “i think you should get star a cute sweater.”
he raised an eyebrow. “a sweater?”
“yes.” she nodded firmly. “something classy. maybe a turtleneck.”
jisung, from the hallway, “a dog in a turtleneck??”
y/n gasped. “oh my god. yes.”
seungmin groaned. “you’re insane.”
she just grinned. “and you love it.”
seungmin opened his mouth to argue— only to close it again.
because, for some reason, watching her sit there, smiling so brightly, sipping her matcha like she owned the world—
he couldn’t bring himself to disagree. maybe he did love it.
maybe… he was starting to love a lot of things about her. and that thought? was a little terrifying. but still, a little exciting.
so, when thirty minutes into their so-called project work, seungmin had come to a harsh, undeniable conclusion: this was not a study session.
it was a y/n-admires-star-and-gets-distracted-every-five-seconds session. and it was infuriating.
"y/n," seungmin sighed, dragging a hand down his face, "focus."
"i am focused," she argued, still not looking at him.
seungmin followed her gaze—
she was star-ing at star. again. [see what i did there?]
the golden retriever was curled up beside her chair, sleeping peacefully, his chest rising and falling in a slow, steady rhythm. and y/n? she had completely zoned out mid-sentence, her cheek resting against her hand, eyes soft as she watched star’s ears twitch in his sleep.
seungmin clicked his tongue. "what exactly are you focused on?"
she blinked, barely registering his words. "him."
jisung, from the kitchen, snorted.
"are you serious right now?" seungmin groaned.
y/n hummed. "mhm."
seungmin leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. "i knew this was a bad idea. we should’ve just gone to the café."
y/n finally tore her gaze away from star to look at him, gasping in fake offense. "excuse me?"
"you heard me," seungmin deadpanned.
she scoffed. "first of all, rude. second, blasphemy. third, i brought you a matcha latte, and this is how you repay me?"
jisung cackled. "she's got a point."
"shut up, squirrel-face."
y/n pouted dramatically, sinking into her chair. "you don’t appreciate anything. i bet star appreciates me more than you do."
seungmin exhaled sharply. "he's a dog."
she gasped. "and? that just means he has purer judgment."
seungmin narrowed his eyes. "so what you’re saying is that my dog likes you more than me?"
y/n grinned. "oh, absolutely."
jisung smirked. "can’t argue with that one."
seungmin threw his pen at him.
"okay," seungmin sighed, rubbing his temples. "since you're so focused on star, tell me—what exactly is so fascinating about him?"
y/n lit up. oh no. this was a mistake.
she leaned forward, clasping her hands together like she had been waiting for him to ask.
"well, first of all," she began, "look at him."
seungmin deadpanned. "i do look at him. every day. because he's my dog."
"dude, it's been three days since you've seen him. and the first was at the adoption cent-"
she ignored the two. "he's literally the cutest thing. did you notice how his ears flop when he breathes?"
jisung muttered, "here we go."
y/n gasped dramatically. "and the little scar on his eyebrow? he looks like a pirate. a handsome pirate."
seungmin tilted his head. "handsome pirate?"
"yes!" y/n cried. "he has this rugged, mysterious look—like a hero with a tragic past."
jisung choked on his water.
seungmin stared at her, baffled. "you think my dog has a tragic past?"
"...he does," y/n huffed. "the whole reason he was in the shelter is because— well, he was abandoned.. and not treated with care. which is why he deserves all the love in the world now."
her voice softened slightly at the last part.
and for a second—just a second—seungmin didn’t have a sarcastic remark ready.
he just watched as she gazed at star again, her fingers lightly brushing against the fur on his back.
soft. gentle. affectionate.
there was something about the way she cared that made something uncomfortable stir in his chest.
he quickly cleared his throat. "so you're saying he’s a main character."
"obviously," y/n nodded. "if this were a movie, he'd be the heartwarming, lovable side character who helps the protagonist through tough times."
"then what does that make you?"
she blinked.
then she grinned. "the best friend. duh."
jisung chimed in from the kitchen, "pretty sure you're the main character here."
[han's mind rn: the fourth wall??? what is it?]
y/n laughed. "oh no, seungmin's the main character. he's all broody and grumpy and—"
seungmin raised an eyebrow. "and what?"
she smirked. "secretly a softie."
jisung howled.
seungmin groaned, shoving his textbook over to her. "read. before i kick you out."
y/n giggled but picked up the book obediently, flipping through the pages. "fine, fine. but just so you know, i'm gonna see star every single day from now on."
seungmin sipped his latte. "did i have a choice?"
"nope."
he exhaled through his nose. "figures."
jisung snickered. "damn. she already owns half of this dorm and it hasn't even been a day."
y/n beamed. "you're right. i should start bringing decorations."
"don't even think about it."
she winked. and somehow—between y/n's constant distractions, jisung's unhelpful commentary, and star snoring at their feet— seungmin found himself not minding it at all.
. . .
seungmin had a headache. not because of uni. not because of work. but because the girl just wouldn't shut the fuck up.
the study session had officially derailed at this point. and to make matters worse, jisung—his supposed best friend—had fully switched sides and was entertaining y/n’s nonsense instead of helping to keep her on track.
“seungmin, do you think star has dreams?” y/n asked suddenly, staring at the sleeping dog beside her with a fond smile.
seungmin blinked, deadpan. “huh?”
“like—what do you think he dreams about?”
jisung smirked from across the couch, munching on one of the pastries y/n had brought. “bet he dreams about running through a field of treats.”
“or maybe about fighting evil!” y/n gasped, dramatically throwing a fist in the air. “like a true hero.”
seungmin dragged a hand down his face. “y/n, i swear—”
“or maybe he dreams about you,” she cut in, turning toward him with a teasing grin. “since you’re his owner and all.”
he hesitated. for a second. and for some reason, that second was too long.
y/n noticed.
her eyes twinkled, mischief curling at the edges of her lips. “oh my god. do you care about that?”
seungmin scowled, turning back to his notes. “i literally do not care.”
“liar.”
jisung snorted. “she got you there.”
seungmin groaned, flipping to another page in his textbook, pretending to focus. “can we please study?”
y/n hummed. “mmm, maybe later.”
his eye twitched. “maybe later?”
she nodded, taking a sip of her matcha latte. “mhm.”
jisung laughed. “yeah, man. priorities.”
seungmin closed his eyes, exhaling through his nose.
he could throw them both out. he could lock the door. he could actually get his work done in peace.
but he didn’t.
instead, he sighed and turned his head slightly—just enough to see y/n sitting on the floor, her legs tucked under her, her fingers running absentmindedly through star’s fur as she murmured something to him.
soft.
she was soft. i'm aware i mentioned it before. but this man is just too smitten and he doesn't wanna admit it.
moving on.
it was annoying how much that was becoming a fact in his life.
his throat felt weird.
he cleared it. “if we’re not going to study, at least do something productive.”
y/n looked up. “like what?”
jisung pointed lazily. “laundry.”
“ew, i'm not washing some boys' laundry. pass.”
“dishes.”
“hard pass.”
seungmin sighed. “what i meant was.. help clean up the disaster you made on the table. not your chores, jisung.”
jisung pouted. “it was worth a try.”
she stood up, stretching her arms over her head before reaching for the empty takeout cups. seungmin didn’t know why—but his eyes lingered on her for a second too long.
the way her sleeves slid slightly down her wrists. the soft hum she let out as she moved. the light clicking of her rings as they tapped against the cups.
it was—
subtle.
but not enough. he looked away, shaking his head as jisung smirked at him from across the room.
don’t. seungmin mouthed.
jisung grinned.
seungmin glared.
jisung winked.
seungmin threw a pen at him. (x2)
by the time evening rolled around, the three of them had managed to not study for a total of six hours.
seungmin didn’t even know how that was possible.
somewhere in between y/n stealing one of his blankets (“it’s cold, seungmo, have a heart”), jisung and y/n dramatically reenacting an entire scene from a movie (“what are we, if not cosmic dust floating in the abyss?”—“jisung, shut up”), and y/n curling up beside star again (“you’re the cutest thing in the world—yes, i mean you, star”),
seungmin had lost control of the day.
and yet.
he let it happen.
because when y/n turned her head slightly and smiled at him—genuinely, softly, with that bright look in her eyes like she was just happy to be here—
seungmin didn’t mind it at all. not one bit. soon, enough, it was right after the sun had set, and y/n, unfortunately, had to leave.
she unlocked the door to her shared dorm, pushing it open with her shoulder. the soft hum of the night filled the space as she stepped in, her body exhausted but her heart… full.
“where have you been?”
rina’s voice rang from the couch, where she was lying upside down, her head hanging off the edge as she scrolled through her phone.
aeri, sitting cross-legged on the floor with a cup of tea, smirked. “let me guess—seungmin?”
y/n shut the door behind her, pausing. “…no?”
a beat of silence. aeri and rina stared at her.
y/n groaned, kicking off her shoes. “okay, yes—but it was for the project!”
aeri snorted. “mhm. project.”
“yeah, totally.” rina rolled onto her side. “is that why you’re smiling like an idiot right now?”
“i am not—”
“you so are.”
y/n scowled, throwing a cushion at them. “shut up.”
they laughed, rina catching the cushion before sitting up properly. “seriously though, how was it?”
y/n sighed, plopping onto the couch beside her. “it was… nice.”
aeri hummed, sipping her tea. “just nice?”
“yeah. we didn’t even get much work done, honestly.”
rina raised a brow. “you didn’t get work done? that’s new.”
y/n shrugged, rubbing at her eyes. “i dunno… star was there, and jisung was being jisung, and it was just…” she trailed off, her gaze softening.
they noticed.
aeri set her mug down, tilting her head. “you really like that dog, huh?”
y/n smiled, running a hand through her hair. “yeah. a lot.”
she didn’t say more. she didn’t have to. because they both knew what she wasn’t saying.
knew how much that golden retriever meant to her.
knew how much she had worried about him for days.
and now—he was safe. with seungmin, of all people.
her stomach flipped at the thought.
“seungmin’s a good guy,” rina murmured after a moment.
y/n blinked, looking at her.
aeri nodded. “yeah. kinda stiff, but still.”
y/n huffed a small laugh. “yeah. he’s good.”
she didn’t realize she was smiling again. she didn’t realize how warm her chest felt.
she only realized when aeri and rina exchanged knowing looks.
“omg—”
“no.”
they gasped.
rina grabbed her arm. “you like him.”
“i do not—”
aeri smirked. “y/n and seungmin, sitting in a tree—”
“i will throw you out.”
they died laughing as y/n groaned, shoving her face into a pillow. her heart thumped in her chest.
god. she hated them.
but maybe, they weren’t entirely wrong.
the air was crisp. sunlight streamed through the glass windows of the university’s main hall, casting golden streaks across the floor. y/n walked in, her bag slung over her shoulder. the campus was bustling, students huddled in groups, talking, laughing, yawning from their morning exhaustion. she weaved through the crowd, searching—
“y/n!”
she turned at the sound of her name, spotting felix and hyunjin across the hall.
felix waved dramatically. “we were about to call you.”
hyunjin grinned. “where were you last night? we tried calling you.”
y/n sighed. “oh my god, not you too.”
felix perked up. “ooooh, why? who else asked?”
she immediately regretted speaking.
hyunjin gasped. “wait, wait—was it seungmin?”
y/n choked on her coffee.
felix clapped. “that’s a yes!”
“i hate you guys.”
they cackled as they walked toward their lecture hall, hyunjin slinging an arm around her shoulders. “c’mon, spill. what happened?”
y/n groaned. “nothing!”
felix wiggled his brows. “oh? you sure?”
“i will end you, lee felix.”
the university library was quiet—well, as quiet as it could be with them in it. the scent of old books mixed with the sharp aroma of coffee, and the late afternoon sun filtered through the large glass windows, casting soft, golden hues over the long study tables. dust motes floated lazily in the warm light, drifting like tiny fireflies in the still air. the heavy shelves stretched toward the ceiling, lined with worn spines and crinkled pages, whispering secrets of past knowledge. somewhere in the distance, the occasional sound of a page turning or a muffled cough punctuated the silence, but at their table, silence was a foreign concept.
y/n sat between felix and hyunjin, her open notebook filled with neatly written notes, margins lined with underlined key points and little doodles she barely remembered sketching. the steady scratch of her pen against paper was a familiar rhythm, almost meditative, yet constantly interrupted by felix's restless shifting and hyunjin's occasional, dramatic sighs. across from them, aeri was flipping through her economics textbook, brows furrowed, her highlighter hovering in hesitation before finally marking a passage in a precise, straight line. rina, on the other hand, looked far too unbothered for someone who was definitely lagging behind, sipping lazily on her iced americano, the condensation dripping onto her untouched notes. the cup left a wet ring on the paper, but she didn’t seem to care, content to simply exist in this moment of chaotic tranquility.
felix stretched his arms above his head before slumping back into his chair with an exaggerated groan, the wooden legs creaking under his weight. he adjusted his reading glasses, even though they served no real purpose beyond aesthetics. "so let me get this straight," he began, tilting his head as if the angle would somehow change the reality of the situation. "you guys have been studying for the past week and i just found out we have an assignment due tomorrow?"
hyunjin snorted, flipping his pen between his fingers with practiced ease. "lix, it was literally on the syllabus."
"who reads the syllabus?"
aeri sighed, flipping a page, her expression exasperated yet unsurprised. "people who want to pass, maybe?"
felix rolled his eyes before turning to y/n, nudging her arm with the side of his hand like an impatient child. "you’re good at this. help me."
y/n sighed dramatically, her gaze shifting from felix’s pleading expression to the scattered mess that was his notes—half-written sentences, numbers that had no business being in those equations, and a truly concerning number of crossed-out attempts. "i always help you."
"that’s ‘cause i’m your favorite."
rina leaned forward, resting her chin on her palm, a slow smirk tugging at her lips. "that’s funny, because i thought i was her favorite."
"i thought i was," hyunjin added, raising a brow.
aeri scoffed, feigning offense. "she likes me the most. y/n, tell them."
y/n stared at them all, unimpressed, tapping her pen against the edge of her notebook. "none of you are my favorite."
a beat of silence stretched between them.
"yeah 'cause it's probably seungmin now." murmured a devastated hyunjin.
felix gasped, placing a hand over his heart as if physically wounded. "how could you?"
hyunjin wiped a fake tear. "we were best friends, y/n."
aeri shook her head in disappointment. "wow. betrayal."
rina sighed, sipping her coffee with the air of someone deeply wronged. "i trusted you."
y/n groaned, rubbing her temples. "oh my god, shut up and study!"
felix pouted but leaned in closer, resting his chin on his hand. "fine. but only if you explain this." he pointed to his book, where a bunch of equations were scribbled down, some very wrong.
y/n took one glance and winced. "felix… what is that?"
"my attempt at math?"
"it looks like you just guessed."
"…isn’t that how math works?"
aeri smacked his arm with her highlighter. "no."
hyunjin burst into laughter while rina shook her head, stirring her coffee absentmindedly. "you are so hopeless."
felix whined, turning back to y/n. "okay, okay, explain it to me."
y/n sighed, but there was fondness in her voice. "alright, listen carefully…" she leaned in, grabbing a pen, and started breaking down the equations step by step, her handwriting smooth and deliberate, looping over the lined paper in a way that made even numbers look elegant. felix watched with exaggerated concentration, nodding along as if he actually understood, though his occasional side glances at hyunjin betrayed his confusion. hyunjin watched for a few seconds before stretching his arms out with a groan. "i give up. my brain hurts."
"same," rina mumbled, propping her cheek against her palm.
aeri rolled her eyes. "you guys have the attention span of goldfish."
"i have the attention span of a very smart goldfish, thank you," hyunjin corrected, tossing his pen onto his notebook with a soft clatter.
felix nodded. "same. i’m a gifted goldfish."
"omg, lixie, what if we become cute goldfish together!"
y/n groaned, pressing her forehead against the table for a dramatic moment. "yeah, actually, why don't you? the pool's in the next building!"
y/n had a talent for many things. writing poetry? check. memorizing entire songs after listening to them twice? absolutely. winning over strangers with her sunshine personality? without a doubt.
but being on time? yeah, no.
her eyes widened as she looked at the time on her phone. the numbers blinked back at her, unforgiving and merciless. oh shit indeed.
the library around her suddenly felt suffocating, the quiet hum of study murmurs and the distant shuffle of pages all blending into white noise. the golden afternoon light spilling through the windows no longer felt warm and dreamy; it was a glaring reminder of the twenty minutes that had already passed.
“oh shit.”
felix and hyunjin, who were still lounging at their study table, looked up in unison, their gazes slow and unconcerned. the contrast between their leisure and her rising panic was almost comical.
hyunjin blinked. "language."
“oh my god, i’m late!” y/n scrambled to shove her books into her tote bag, her movements frantic and chaotic. papers crumpled under the force of her hands, and in her rush, her elbow nearly knocked over the remnants of her coffee. the cup wobbled dangerously before felix, ever the observer, reached out and steadied it with a lazy hand.
“i was supposed to meet seungmin twenty minutes ago!” her voice wavered somewhere between hysteria and despair.
felix, unfazed, took a slow sip of his drink. “oh, he’s gonna murder you.”
“i know!”
hyunjin grinned, resting his chin in his palm. “do you want us to attend your funeral, or would you prefer we just remember you as you were?”
“not helping!” she hissed, yanking the strap of her bag over her shoulder with more force than necessary.
aeri, who had been listening from the next table, raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "you guys are studying again?"
y/n waved a frantic hand. "yes, but listen—i planned something. a genius plan. a brilliant plan."
felix leaned forward, intrigued, though his smirk suggested he was already expecting something ridiculous. “do tell.”
“we’re not studying in his dorm.”
hyunjin’s eyes narrowed suspiciously. “then where?”
y/n’s fingers flew over her phone as she sent a frantic ‘sorry! on my way!! don’t kill me!!!’ text before looking back at them, practically vibrating with excitement.
“i thought… instead of just sitting indoors, we could take star out.” she grinned, eyes gleaming with mischief. “maybe a walk? or even better—a garden! a little picnic study session! nature, fresh air, vibes.”
felix stared at her for a long moment, then burst into laughter. "you’re just using the project as an excuse to hang out with star, aren’t you?"
“…no.”
aeri smirked, arms crossed. "uh-huh. sure. and does seungmin know?"
y/n cleared her throat, her gaze darting to the side. "…he’ll find out when we get there."
hyunjin grinned, eyes glinting with amusement. “so basically, you’re kidnapping him.”
“i prefer the term forcefully encouraging outdoor bonding time,” y/n corrected, lifting her chin in faux sophistication.
felix leaned back in his chair, his laughter still lingering in the air. “or it's more of a date.”
“okay, okay, i have to go.” y/n swung her bag over her shoulder with all the grace of someone teetering on the edge of disaster. “if i don’t text in the next hour, assume seungmin has buried me alive.”
“will do,” hyunjin said cheerfully. “good luck, kidnapper.”
y/n rolled her eyes but didn’t stop to argue. instead, she bolted out of the library, weaving between study tables and stacks of books, her hurried footsteps echoing against the quiet hush of the space. the moment she pushed through the heavy doors and into the cool evening air, her heart pounded against her ribs.
seungmin was so going to kill her. but at least he’d have to do it after their impromptu picnic.
“notice how she didn't deny about it being a date?”
y/n practically sprinted to her dorm, dodging students and weaving through the hallways like she was in an action movie. her hair whipped around her face, strands catching in the soft glow of overhead lights, and her breath came in short, determined bursts. her mind raced faster than her feet, already imagining seungmin’s unimpressed stare, his sharp eyes narrowed in something between disappointment and reluctant amusement.
she nearly crashed into rina, who had just stepped out.
“woah—where’s the fire?” she laughed, stepping aside.
“in seungmin’s eyes if i don’t get there soon!” y/n yelled, yanking open the door and rushing inside.
“told you he’d kill you one of these days.”
“yeah, yeah,” y/n huffed, throwing her tote bag onto the floor. she hurriedly grabbed her water bottle, some notebooks, and very important essentials—star’s treats, a small blanket, and, of course, snacks. rina peered into the bag, her expression knowing. "you realize you’re doing more for this dog than you did for our last project, right?"
"first of all, rude," y/n shot back, stuffing one last thing into her tote. "second of all—no time to argue, i gotta go!"
she waved lazily. "don’t get yourself murdered."
y/n barely heard her as she bolted out of the dorm, her feet pounding against the pavement, heart racing. the wind bit at her skin, but she barely noticed. she had a mission.
so, by the time y/n reached seungmin and jisung’s dorm, she was breathless, her chest rising and falling rapidly, but victorious. she knocked rapidly, shifting her tote bag from one shoulder to the other. the door swung open, revealing jisung with terribly disheveled hair, not that she judged.
“ah,” he said, arms crossed, his features alight with mischief. “so you do have a death wish.”
y/n pouted. “i apologized!”
“thirty-eight minutes late,” he pointed out, raising an eyebrow. “a bold move, considering the man inside is the seungmin.”
y/n huffed, lifting the three matcha lattes in her hand. “bribery, if you will.”
jisung’s eyes twinkled with amusement as he stepped aside. “well, in that case, welcome.”
she stepped in, spotting seungmin at his desk. he barely looked up.
“you’re late.”
“i know,” y/n whined, setting the drinks down. “i had a valid reason.”
seungmin glanced at the drinks, his lips twitching. “bribery won’t work.”
“but this bribery includes your favorite matcha latte. i brought one for you too, ji!” she grinned.
jisung nodded. “compelling argument.”
seungmin sighed but grabbed the drink. “fine. you’re forgiven. for now.”
the second y/n stepped into the hallway, her eyes immediately searched for the golden fluffball.
“star!” she gasped, dramatically dropping to her knees as if she’d been away for years.
star, in all his fluffy, golden, star-like glory, perked up at the sound of her voice, tail wagging furiously.
“oh my baby—” y/n cooed, completely ignoring seungmin as she placed her tote bag down and reached for star. he excitedly trotted toward her, his tail thumping against the floor as she cupped his face and showered him with scratches.
“i missed you so much,” she whispered against his fur, her voice soft as she ran her hands over his head and back. she checked his food bowl, peeked at his bed, and gave him a homemade treat like the concerned parent she definitely wasn’t but absolutely felt like.
seungmin, watching the whole ordeal with an unimpressed expression, sighed. “are you actually here to study or just to visit him?”
“both,” y/n shot back, still petting star. “but mostly him.”
“figures,” seungmin muttered.
“good. now, time for the next part.”
seungmin narrowed his eyes. “what next part?”
y/n blinked innocently. “oh. did i forget to mention?”
seungmin stared. “excuse me?”
jisung, watching from the couch, was thriving on the dynamic. “okay, so are you guys going now or…?”
y/n stood up suddenly and grabbed seungmin’s wrist. “yep! let’s go.”
seungmin blinked. “go where—”
“no questions.”
“so you're kidnapping me now?”
“i prefer the term ‘forcefully encouraging outdoor bonding time,’” y/n corrected.
seungmin’s deadpan stare could have melted steel.
“no.”
“yes.”
jisung, delighted, grabbed a snack. “i voted yes ages ago.”
y/n huffed. “well, too bad, seung. you’re coming whether you like it or not.” she grabbed his wrist and pulled.
seungmin groaned. “i hate this already.”
“no, you don’t.”
“…no, i don’t.”
jisung waved. “have fun, lovebirds.”
“say that to my face when i come back to you and minho making out on the couch.”
“um, is privacy just a concept now???” jisung's eyes widened and he almost fell off the couch from the remark. “leave us alone!”
and just like that, she was dragging him forward, with star happily trotting beside them.
seungmin let himself be pulled (because, really, what other choice did he have?) as jisung waved them off. as they stepped outside, y/n grinned triumphantly. she was taking seungmin and star on a picnic.
call it a date, if you want to.
this was a win, either way.
the streets were alive with the hum of the noon—the soft chatter of pedestrians, the occasional honk of a distant car, the faint rustle of leaves as the wind carried whispers through the trees. the golden hour painted the world in warmth.
seungmin shoved his hands in his pockets as y/n led the way, walking slightly ahead with star. the breeze tugged at the loose strands of her hair, lifting them gently as if the wind itself were playing along. she was practically bouncing on her feet, occasionally turning back to look at seungmin with the biggest, most childlike grin ever.
he hated how cute it was. star trotted beside her, his tail wagging as he happily sniffed the air. the scent of freshly baked bread from a nearby café mixed with the subtle fragrance of damp earth, the aftermath of a brief afternoon drizzle. y/n giggled, reaching down to scratch star’s head.
“you’re such a good boy, you know that?” she cooed, her voice soft. “you deserve all the happiness in the world, my baby.”
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “i hope you know you’ve just activated his ‘spoiled prince’ mode.”
y/n shot him a look. “excuse me? star deserves to be treated like royalty.”
“he’s literally been in my dorm for one day, and he already walks around like he owns the place.”
“that’s right, baby, you’re the king. own it.”
seungmin muttered something under his breath, but he couldn’t hide the amused look in his eyes.
they turned a corner, walking past a row of small cafés. the air carried hints of roasted coffee beans and sweet pastries, the kind of scents that made everything feel a little warmer, a little cozier. y/n pointed at one of them.
“oh! that’s where felix and i go for late-night coffee runs.”
“late-night coffee runs? you mean ‘let’s see how much caffeine we can consume before death’ runs?”
“how dare you? we are simply connoisseurs of the fine art that is coffee appreciation.”
“you’re addicts.”
“you sound like aeri.”
“well, maybe aeri is right.”
“betrayal. i trusted you.”
“you trust way too easily.”
“that’s called being nice, seungmin.”
“more like being reckless.”
y/n stuck her tongue out at him. “you’re just mad because i forced you outside.”
“i am mad,” seungmin deadpanned. “i was perfectly fine at home, but no, you had to drag me into the world of socializing and fresh air.”
“fresh air is good for you.”
“no, staying inside and avoiding people is good for me.”
y/n snorted. “you are such a grandpa.”
seungmin side-eyed her. “and you are such a child.”
“and yet, here you are, following a said child to a picnic.”
seungmin sighed, looking up at the sky. “this is my life now.”
y/n just laughed, swinging their hands slightly before realizing what she was doing and immediately letting go.
seungmin didn’t say anything. they reached a quieter street, lined with trees. the golden hour made everything glow, and y/n looked at the street, eyes sparkling.
“it’s so pretty,” she murmured.
y/n suddenly turned to him, her expression soft. “aren’t you glad i dragged you out now?”
seungmin glanced at her, taking in the way her eyes shone in the golden light, the way she absentmindedly reached down to scratch behind star’s ear, the way she looked so effortlessly happy.
he sighed. “i guess it’s not that bad.”
y/n grinned. “that’s the closest thing to a compliment i’ll ever get from you, huh?”
“correct.”
she giggled, and they walked on, letting the peaceful evening carry them forward.
the park was bathed in golden sunlight by the time they arrived, the grass glowing under the warmth of the late afternoon. the blades swayed gently with the occasional breeze, casting playful shadows over the earth. the air smelled of sun-warmed leaves and the faint perfume of wildflowers that lined the walking paths. birds flitted between branches, their soft chirping blending seamlessly with the rustling of leaves. in the distance, laughter and chatter wove into the afternoon air—people jogging along the winding trails, couples lounging on picnic blankets, and children chasing soccer balls with delighted squeals.
but for y/n, it was perfect. a vast, open space. fresh air. the scent of flowers. and most importantly—star.
“finally!” y/n cheered, practically skipping onto the grass as she let go of seungmin’s wrist and crouched down.
“star! you’re free! run, my love, run!” she dramatically spoke.
the dog, catching onto the excitement, let out a happy bark and dashed across the field. his golden fur shimmered under the sunlight as he zoomed in circles, his ears flopping with every movement. the grass bent beneath his paws, tiny petals bursting into the air where he ran.
seungmin exhaled, rubbing his temples. “i feel like i’m babysitting two creatures at once.”
y/n shot him a playful glare. “excuse you. i am a fully functional human being.”
seungmin crossed his arms. “are you? because i just watched you sprint into the park like a five-year-old.”
“i am excited, seungmin! let me live!” y/n huffed, standing up straight and placing her hands on her hips. “look at him. look at my son being all happy.”
seungmin followed her gaze, watching as star excitedly sniffed around, kicking up grass with his paws. he had to admit—watching the dog so free and joyful was kind of… nice. the late sunlight glowed against star’s fur, a halo of gold against the soft green of the park.
y/n, noticing seungmin’s soft expression, nudged him. “see? this is fun. you’re having fun, aren’t you?”
seungmin scoffed. “i'll have fun when we finish our project.”
y/n gasped dramatically. “you love star. you love spending time outside with me. you just don’t wanna admit it.”
seungmin turned to her, deadpan. “i tolerate you at best.”
y/n smirked. “mm-hmm, sure, mr. ‘i secretly enjoy this but will never admit it.’”
seungmin ignored her, crouching down and clicking his tongue. “star, come here.”
star, tail wagging, instantly ran over to seungmin. y/n watched in amusement as seungmin gently patted the dog’s head, scratching behind his ears.
“wow,” y/n teased, arms crossed. “you really are a softie.”
“i am not,” seungmin retorted.
“oh, you so are,” y/n giggled, dropping down beside them. she reached out, rubbing star’s belly as he flopped onto the grass.
for a moment, the world was quiet—just the sound of birds, the occasional laughter of kids in the distance, and the rustling of leaves in the wind. and then, unexpectedly, seungmin chuckled.
it was soft—barely there—but y/n heard it.
she turned her head quickly, eyes turning into little crescents as she smiled, looking at the guy while he pet star.
“your smile is adorable, you know,”
“can we go and actually study now?” seungmin insisted, turning away.
y/n grinned mischievously. “seungmin has a pretty smile, confirmed.”
seungmin rolled his eyes. “shut up.”
“make me.”
seungmin shot her a look. “do you want me to throw you in a bush?”
“you wouldn’t dare.”
seungmin smirked. “test me.”
y/n, still grinning, turned back to star, petting his fur. she didn’t push further, but something about this moment—seungmin smiling, actually enjoying himself—made her heart feel… warm.
then, after what felt like forever of running around with star, playing fetch, and letting him explore every flower patch in sight, they finally settled under a large oak tree. the bark was rough against their backs, but the shade was cool, offering a soft reprieve from the sun’s golden heat.
seungmin stretched his legs out, pulling out his laptop. “alright. now can we actually get to work?”
y/n sat cross-legged across from him, her notebook and a takeout cup in front of her. “yes, yes, fine.”
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “you say that, but you’re still petting star.”
y/n froze mid-pat. “…okay, maybe i have a problem.”
seungmin sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “you definitely have a problem.”
still, he opened his laptop, scanning through the project notes. y/n followed along—at least, she tried to. but every few minutes, she found herself glancing at star, who was now napping beside them, his head resting on her thigh. he noticed.
“y/n.”
“hm?”
“you’re not paying attention.”
y/n blinked. “what? yes, i am.”
seungmin gave her an unimpressed look. “oh yeah? what did i just say?”
y/n panicked. “uh. something about, businesses..?”
seungmin sighed. “you’re impossible.”
y/n pouted. “look, i am listening, but how can i not admire this beautiful creature sleeping on my lap?”
seungmin side-eyed star. “yeah, yeah, he’s adorable. now focus.” y/n huffed, reluctantly turning back to her notes.
for a while, they actually worked—throwing around ideas, writing down key points, and organizing their research.
at some point, though, y/n noticed the way seungmin’s brows furrowed when he was focused, how he tapped his fingers against his laptop absentmindedly. and more than once, seungmin caught y/n just staring at him.
“what?” he finally asked, raising an eyebrow.
y/n shook her head. “nothing.”
seungmin narrowed his eyes. “are you admiring me now?”
y/n scoffed. “you look peaceful when you're reading.”
seungmin just blinked. “well.. i'm reading.”
they continued working, but there was something different now—something softer in the air. subtle things.
like how y/n adjusted star’s sleeping position carefully so he’d be more comfortable. like how seungmin absentmindedly handed y/n her coffee when he noticed she hadn’t taken a sip in a while.
like how their shoulders would brush every now and then, neither of them pulling away. it was all so small, yet it lingered.
and when the sun dipped lower, when the air got a little cooler, when the world felt quieter, y/n found herself thinking—
maybe this wasn’t so bad after all.
“star, come back, you little menace!” she giggled, barely able to keep up.
seungmin, standing a few feet away with his hands in his pockets, watched the scene unfold with an unreadable expression. his gaze flickered between y/n’s bright, joyful smile and the way star eagerly circled around her, tail wagging furiously.
it was ridiculous, how happy they looked together. ridiculous, and maybe a little… endearing.
star, realizing he was being chased, took that as an invitation to run even faster, his paws kicking up little tufts of grass.
“seungmin!” y/n called, breathless. “help me!”
seungmin sighed. “you brought this upon yourself.”
y/n pouted dramatically. “rude.”
still, seungmin finally crouched down and clicked his tongue, calling for star. instantly, the golden retriever skidded to a stop, his ears perking up as he sprinted toward seungmin instead.
y/n gasped, stopping in her tracks. “traitor!”
seungmin smirked as star practically crashed into him, licking his face. “i guess he likes me better.”
y/n stomped over, hands on her hips. “he does not!”
seungmin wiped his face with his sleeve. “he literally abandoned you for me.”
y/n huffed, flopping onto the grass beside him. star immediately lay down between them, tongue lolling out in content.
“fine,” she said dramatically. “maybe he likes you a little bit.”
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “wow. high praise.”
y/n stuck her tongue out at him before turning her attention back to star. she rubbed his belly, murmuring sweet nonsense as he wagged his tail in delight.
the moment was peaceful. warm. the kind of easy happiness that made time feel slower.
until—
a blur of brown and white fur came bounding toward them, yapping excitedly.
another dog, a lot smaller than star, skidded to a stop right in front of them. her fur was a mix of ginger-brown and cream, her ears flopping as she wagged her tail in excitement.
“oh?” y/n blinked, watching as the new dog sniffed star curiously.
before seungmin could react, a voice called out.
“berry! berry, you little gremlin, get back here!”
a guy—tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in casual sweats—ran toward them, slightly out of breath, his australian accent quite evident. his curly hair was ruffled from the wind, and he had a charming, easygoing smile as he stopped a few feet away.
“oh man, i’m so sorry,” he said, hands on his knees as he caught his breath. “she just—she loves meeting other dogs.”
y/n, already grinning, waved him off. “no worries! star’s the exact same.”
the guy straightened, flashing a sheepish smile. “yeah? that’s good. she’s too friendly sometimes.” he gestured toward the excitable golden retriever, who was now playfully nudging star’s side. “her name’s berry.”
y/n gasped. “that is the cutest name ever.”
the guy laughed, clearly amused. “you think so? i was kinda worried it was too cutesy, but she looks like a little berry, so it stuck.”
seungmin, who had been standing quietly the whole time, resisted the urge to roll his eyes.
this guy is too friendly.
and y/n is too easily charmed.
“i’m chris, by the way,” the guy continued, offering a hand.
“y/n!” she shook his hand enthusiastically. “and this is seungmin.” she nudged seungmin’s arm. “say hi.”
seungmin sighed. “hi.”
chris chuckled. “nice to meet you two.”
seungmin nodded stiffly, before deciding to step back, returning to where their books were laid out under the tree.
y/n, completely unaware of the shift in his mood, continued chatting.
“so how old is berry?” she asked, scratching behind the pup’s ears.
“just over nine! she's been an amazing girl.” chris crouched down beside her, watching as berry and star playfully tumbled over each other. “she’s usually tired but still excited, though.”
y/n laughed. “oh, she's adorable. star has the energy of a child with unlimited sugar intake.”
chris snorted. “that’s the best kind, though.”
seungmin, from where he sat, clicked his tongue.
what’s so funny? what’s so interesting?
he tried to focus on his notes, but his mind kept drifting back to y/n’s voice—bright and animated as she talked to this guy like they’d known each other forever.
it was annoying. not that he cared. of course not.
except he did. a little. maybe. a tiny bit.
“seung!” y/n called suddenly, snapping him out of his thoughts. “come back here! your kid's making a new friend, and you’re missing it!”
seungmin sighed, shutting his laptop a little too aggressively.
when he walked back over, y/n gave him a big, innocent grin. “welcome back. did you miss us?”
seungmin looked at her. then at chris. then at the two dogs playing.
“no.”
y/n laughed, nudging him with her elbow. “liar.”
seungmin sighed, shaking his head. he hated how she could read him so easily.
chris, still petting berry, smiled. “you guys come here often?”
“sometimes, alone though. he just adopted star two days ago.” y/n chirped. “seungmin and i have a project, but i lowkey tricked him into coming here instead of the library.”
chris laughed. “genius.”
seungmin groaned. “please don’t encourage her.”
chris just grinned. “i mean, i get it. if my friend tried to make me study in a library instead of chilling outside with pups? i’d revolt.”
y/n gasped, dramatically placing a hand over her heart. “seungmin! you hear that?! i am validated!”
seungmin stared blankly. “i am regretting my life choices.”
chris chuckled. “well, if you guys ever wanna do another dog hangout, berry and i are around a lot.” he reached into his pocket, pulling out his phone. “here, y/n, you should give me your number. we can plan something.”
seungmin nearly choked.
y/n, completely oblivious to the way seungmin visibly tensed, beamed. “oooh, yes, of course! looks like our dogs are already friends.” she quickly typed her number into chris’s phone, and seungmin felt a very unreasonable surge of irritation.
chris stood, grinning. “cool. see you guys around!” as he walked away, berry gave star one last playful nudge before trotting off after her owner.
the moment they were out of earshot, seungmin exhaled.
y/n, grinning, turned to him. “that was fun, huh?”
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “you gave a random guy your number.”
“he’s not random! he has a dog, seungmin. that makes him automatically trustworthy.”
“that is the worst logic i’ve ever heard.”
y/n just laughed, bumping her shoulder against his. “you’re cute when you sulk, you know.”
seungmin scoffed. “i do not sulk.”
y/n just smirked. “mmm-hmm.”
seungmin rolled his eyes, but as they sat back down under the tree, watching star flop into the grass with a content sigh, he found himself almost smiling.
almost.
so with chris and berry gone, and star finally exhausted from his zoomies, seungmin and y/n settled back under the tree where their books, laptops, and coffee cups were scattered. ☆, now thoroughly worn out, plopped onto the grass with a deep, satisfied sigh, his golden fur catching the sunlight. he lay near y/n’s side, occasionally shifting to rest his head on her lap as she absentmindedly scratched behind his ears.
seungmin, on the other hand, was busy flipping through pages of notes, fingers tapping against his knee. he had somehow ended up with y/n’s pink highlighter, and though he’d never admit it, he kind of liked the contrast of bright neon ink against his otherwise meticulously organized notes.
“well,” y/n stretched, her head tilting back as she groaned dramatically, “we have two days to get this done. two. days. and i still have, like, 40% of the work left.”
seungmin glanced up. “you should be worried, but you don’t look worried.”
she grinned. “because i have you to keep me on track.”
he blinked, unamused. “i regret letting you meet my dog.”
y/n gasped. “excuse me? star was mine first.”
seungmin smirked, tapping the back of his pen against his notebook. “i literally signed the adoption papers. he’s mine now.”
y/n pouted, leaning down to rest her cheek against star’s fur. “baby, did you hear that? your so-called dad is so mean.”
star wagged his tail once but didn’t move.
seungmin scoffed, but there was something fond in the way he looked at her.
“anyway,” he said, flipping a page. “we need to get through at least two sections today if we don’t wanna pull an all-nighter before submission.”
y/n sat up, pushing her hair behind her ears. “alright, alright. time to be productive.”
for a few minutes, it was actually quiet. seungmin explained a concept, y/n listened, asked questions, and for a rare moment, she was focused.
and then— star stretched, rolling onto his back with his paws in the air.
y/n immediately melted, again.
“oh my god,” she whispered, “he’s so cute.”
seungmin closed his eyes, inhaling sharply. “y/n—”
“just look at him!” she gushed, putting her laptop aside to rub star’s belly. “how am i supposed to study when this exists?”
seungmin pinched the bridge of his nose. “you dragged me here for a study session and now you’re the one getting distracted.”
y/n pouted. “i can’t help it!”
seungmin let out a slow exhale before leaning forward to flick her forehead.
“ow—hey!” y/n rubbed the spot he’d flicked, looking betrayed.
“focus,” he said, smirking.
y/n narrowed her eyes but sighed, reluctantly returning to her notes.
minutes passed. then an hour.
despite her initial distractions, y/n actually did well. she caught up on most of the sections she had been behind on, taking notes diligently while seungmin occasionally tested her on concepts.
somewhere between paragraphs and equations, their coffee cups ran empty, and star dozed off beside y/n, his soft snores blending into the comfortable silence.
when the sunlight softened into afternoon hues, y/n stretched again, cracking her back dramatically.
“i think we actually made progress,” she said, sounding surprised.
seungmin glanced at her, amused. “you doubted me?”
“i doubted me,” she corrected. “you, on the other hand, are like an annoyingly effective tutor.”
he smirked. “annoying but effective. i’ll take it.”
she snorted.
then, after a beat, she turned to him with a softer expression.
“thanks for today,” she said.
seungmin blinked. “for… studying?”
“well, yeah,” she shrugged, “but also for letting me see star. and for putting up with my distractions.”
he glanced away for a second, pretending to focus on closing his laptop. “it’s fine. you were less annoying than usual.”
y/n gasped. “seungmin. was that… a compliment?”
he groaned. “forget i said anything.”
but y/n just giggled, nudging his shoulder.
. . .
with the study session wrapping up, y/n shut her notebook and stretched, arms reaching towards the sky as she let out a satisfied sigh.
“i think my brain is officially fried,” she declared, flopping back onto the cool grass.
seungmin rolled his eyes, finishing up his notes. “you always say that after studying for an hour.”
“that’s because my brain isn’t built for intense academic labor.”
“yeah? what is it built for?”
y/n hummed, glancing at the sky. “talking. music. daydreaming. falling in love with random fictional characters—”
seungmin scoffed. “should’ve figured.”
y/n giggled, turning to her side to look at him. “what about you? you’re a music major, right?”
he nodded. “yeah.”
“so, you like music?”
he blinked at her. “no, y/n, i hate it. that’s why i chose to major in it.”
she snorted. “okay, i get it. but like… do you just sing, or do you compose too?”
seungmin hesitated, eyes flickering to the grass as he picked at the hem of his sleeve. “…i write, too.”
y/n’s eyes widened. “wait, really?”
“that’s so cool,” she grinned. “what kind of stuff do you write?”
he glanced away, pretending to be uninterested, but there was a faint pink dusting his ears. “it depends.”
“depends on what?”
“…on the mood.”
y/n tilted her head. “like, do you write sad songs when you’re sad?”
“sometimes.”
“and happy songs when you’re happy?”
seungmin exhaled a laugh. “yeah, something like that.”
y/n hummed in thought before sitting up, crossing her legs. “can i hear something someday?”
he turned to her, eyebrows raised. “you wanna hear my songs?”
“well, yeah,” she said like it was obvious. “if you wrote them, they must be good.”
seungmin looked at her for a moment, slightly taken aback.
it wasn’t that he hid his music, but he also never had someone be this… interested.
y/n, on the other hand, seemed genuinely eager. her brown eyes sparkled with curiosity, her black curls catching the golden sunlight as she leaned in slightly.
“…maybe one day,” he finally said.
she gasped, dramatically placing a hand on her heart. “did i just get kim seungmin to agree to something?”
he rolled his eyes. “regretfully.”
y/n laughed, the sound soft and warm, blending into the lazy afternoon air.
then, after a beat, she asked, “so, when did you start writing?”
seungmin hesitated, staring at the ground for a second before answering. “…high school, i guess.”
“because you liked it?”
“because i needed to.”
y/n’s playful grin softened. “needed to?”
he sighed, leaning back on his hands. “…it was just an outlet, i guess.”
y/n nodded, understanding. “music’s like that, huh? the way it can say what words can’t.”
seungmin turned to her, surprised. “…yeah.”
for a second, they just looked at each other.
the breeze was soft, rustling through the leaves, and the golden afternoon light framed y/n’s face perfectly.
seungmin swallowed.
she was—
“…anyway!” y/n broke the silence, grinning again. “do you have a favorite song you’ve written?”
he blinked, shaking off whatever that thought was. “not really.”
“what? no way.”
he smirked. “i don’t.”
“well, what’s your most recent one about?”
he hesitated, the corner of his lips twitching. “wouldn’t you like to know?”
y/n groaned. “you are so annoying.”
“you’re the one asking questions.”
“because i wanna know you!” she huffed.
seungmin stilled.
y/n blinked, realizing how that sounded, and quickly scrambled to fix it. “i mean, like—! not in a weird way! just in a ‘we’re friends and i’m curious’ way—”
seungmin chuckled, amused at her sudden flustered state.
her face was slightly red, lips pursed, avoiding his gaze.
and he—
…was noticing too much.
clearing his throat, he glanced away, staring at star, who was now lazily sprawled across the grass, napping.
“…it was about wanting something you can’t have,” he finally said.
y/n turned back to him, blinking. “what?”
“the last song i wrote,” he said, not looking at her. “it was about that.”
y/n tilted her head. “oh…”
silence.
“…like a person.. or a thing?”
seungmin’s jaw tensed. “something like that.”
y/n’s lips parted slightly, but she didn’t push.
instead, she smiled gently. “well, if you ever wanna share, i’d love to hear it.”
seungmin glanced at her.
she meant it.
it was in the way her voice softened, the way her eyes held nothing but warmth.
“…yeah,” he muttered, looking away. “maybe.”
y/n grinned. “i’ll hold you to that.”
seungmin exhaled, shaking his head, but the corner of his lips twitched.
and as the afternoon stretched on, filled with more questions, quiet laughter, and stolen glances—
he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was shifting.
the golden hues of the afternoon had softened into a dusky warmth, but neither of them had moved from their spot. the books had been closed a while ago, pushed aside, making way for idle chatter and occasional banter. star was still sprawled across the grass, now lazily flicking his tail in his sleep.
y/n reached for her matcha latte without thinking, bringing it to her lips as she listened to seungmin talk.
“so, basically, jisung thought he was auditioning for a singing position but it was actually for theatre,” seungmin smirked, recalling the tragic yet hilarious memory.
y/n, mid-sip, choked on her drink. “what?!”
seungmin watched as she coughed, eyes wide in disbelief.
“you’re telling me he— he accidentally signed up for a theatre audition? how does one confuse that..”
“oh yeah.” seungmin nodded, crossing his arms. “i swear, i’ve never seen him improvise so fast. he ended up just… dramatically narrating the lyrics to some song.”
y/n wheezed. “please tell me there’s a video.”
“there is.”
“i need to see it.”
“we all do,” seungmin sighed. “but it’s buried in the archives of shame.”
y/n wiped the corner of her mouth, shaking her head. “jisung is actually insane.”
seungmin hummed in agreement, watching as she absentmindedly took another sip of matcha.
it took him approximately three seconds to realize—
that wasn’t her drink.
it was his.
his eyes flickered between the cup in her hand and his own, which was still sitting untouched beside him.
for a split second, he considered telling her—maybe teasing her for it.
but instead—
he said nothing.
maybe it was because she looked so natural, holding it like it had always been hers. or maybe it was the way she kept laughing, completely unaware of the fact that she had just—
whatever.
it didn’t bother him.
which was weird.
but before he could overthink it, y/n placed the cup back down, already moving to stretch.
“i need to move,” she groaned, standing up. “my legs are gonna cramp.”
seungmin leaned back on his hands. “what, so you’re just gonna run away?”
“not run,” she corrected, dramatically dusting off her jeans. “just gonna go play with my favorite boy in the world.”
seungmin raised a brow. “i’m right here.”
“i meant star, you nerdy narcissist.”
seungmin scoffed, shaking his head as he watched her crouch beside the golden retriever, gently running her fingers through his fur.
“cute.” there was a mumble.
star blinked up at her sleepily before sighing, dramatically rolling onto his back.
y/n gasped. “oh my god. you are so adorable.”
seungmin exhaled, his gaze lingering.
there was something about the way she was—so effortlessly warm, so naturally affectionate.
the way her eyes softened when she looked at star. the way she giggled when he licked her cheek. the way she—
“…min, look!”
he blinked, snapping out of his thoughts as y/n turned to him, beaming.
“what?”
she pointed at star, who was now trying to hold her hand between his paws.
seungmin huffed out a small laugh. “yeah, yeah. he likes you.”
“like???” y/n scoffed. “loves. he loves me.”
seungmin rolled his eyes, pushing himself up from the grass and walking over to them.
as he approached, star wagged his tail excitedly, shifting his attention to him.
“see?” y/n grinned. “he loves you, too.”
seungmin crouched down, scratching star behind the ears. “obviously. who wouldn’t?”
y/n shot him an unimpressed look. “you have no shame.”
he smirked. “why would i?”
y/n groaned, flopping onto the grass dramatically.
star, thrilled by her sudden movement, barked before immediately climbing on top of her.
“wait, no—!” y/n squeaked.
seungmin stood over them, arms crossed. “this is hilarious.”
“help me, you traitor!”
he shrugged. “nah, you’re his favorite, right? deal with it.”
y/n glared at him through a mess of golden fur, breathless from laughing.
and seungmin—
he noticed it again.
the way her cheeks were flushed. the way her curls were sprawled against the grass. the way—
“…oh my god, is this your revenge?” y/n gasped.
seungmin snapped out of it. “what?”
“you planned this.” she squinted at him, grinning. “you trained star to betray me.”
he snorted. “yeah, because i totally trained a dog i adopted yesterday.”
“exactly!”
he rolled his eyes. “you’re insane.”
“thank you.”
with that, she finally managed to wriggle out from under star, sitting up and dusting off her clothes.
star happily plopped his head onto her lap, sighing contently.
y/n smiled, running her fingers through his fur.
and seungmin—
he exhaled, sitting beside them.
he didn’t get it.
didn’t understand why—
why it was so easy to be here, with her.
why it was so easy to look.
but for some reason—
he didn’t mind figuring it out.
soon, the sky had started shifting into deeper shades of indigo, the golden warmth of the sun melting into something softer, quieter. they hadn’t moved from their spot under the tree, their books still scattered on the blanket beneath them, long forgotten. star had long since worn himself out from his zoomies, only to reawaken with another surge of energy, bolting across the grass like a streak of gold.
y/n had her knees tucked up to her chest, her chin resting lazily atop them, watching the dog with the kind of fondness that made something in seungmin’s chest tighten.
“you do realize you’re going to be his favorite person for life, right?” she mused, glancing at him with a knowing smile.
seungmin, leaning back on his hands, scoffed. “he better be loyal.”
she gasped dramatically. “loyal? seungmin, that’s a dog. of course he's loyal.”
he laughed, tilting his head. “yeah?”
y/n exhaled, flopping onto her back. “yeah.”
“finally,” he hummed, shifting to look down at her, “it seems you're tired.”
she lifted a hand, flicking his forehead. “against my will.”
seungmin chuckled under his breath, rubbing the spot absentmindedly. “right. that’s why you’ve been making it your life’s mission to barge into my dorm every day like a ray of sunshine.”
y/n opened her mouth to argue, but no words came out. she clamped it shut, lips pressing into a line.
seungmin smirked. “that’s what i thought.”
“you’re so annoying,” she grumbled, turning her head away.
“yet you’re still here.”
“stop repeating that!”
his laugh was warm, effortless.
the silence that followed was comfortable—easy in the way that it lingered without pressure, stretching between them as the wind stirred through the leaves above. the distant sounds of the park continued—laughter, conversation, the occasional bark—but between them, the world was quiet.
y/n was still lying on her back, her eyes tracing the deepening hues of the sky. seungmin sat beside her, his gaze naturally drawn to her profile—the soft curve of her lips, the gentle rise and fall of her chest. his hand rested against the blanket, fingers idly toying with the hem. he wasn’t entirely sure why he was still looking, but something about the way she was bathed in fading light made it impossible to glance away.
“do you ever just…” y/n’s voice was softer now, thoughtful. “feel so full of something but don’t know what to do with it?”
seungmin stilled.
“…what kind of ‘something’?”
she exhaled slowly. “like…” she turned her head, meeting his gaze. “something warm.”
his fingers curled slightly against the fabric beneath him.
warm.
he knew that feeling. he’d been feeling it this entire time.
a slow, deliberate kind of warmth. the kind that sneaks up on you and settles beneath your skin. the kind that lingers, even when you’re trying not to think about it.
“yeah,” he murmured, his voice quieter than before.
y/n’s lips parted slightly, her eyes searching his.
he didn’t know who moved first.
maybe it was her—her breath hitching as she leaned ever so slightly closer.
maybe it was him—the way his hand lifted, fingers grazing against her wrist, tentative but not hesitant.
maybe it was something neither of them could name, something inevitable. all he knew was that when their lips met, the world stopped.
it was soft at first, unhurried—like a quiet realization unfolding in real time. her lips were warm, plush, molding against his in a way that sent a slow, curling heat through his veins. he could feel the tentative way she responded, the hesitation melting away as she pressed closer. his hand moved on instinct, cupping the side of her face, his thumb brushing against the delicate skin of her cheek.
and then—
she sighed against him.
and something in seungmin broke.
the kiss deepened, slow and intoxicating, the warmth between them turning into something more. his fingers slid into her hair, tilting her head as he kissed her deeper, tasting the faint remnants of matcha on her tongue. her hands gripped his sleeves, clutching onto him like she wasn’t sure she’d ever let go.
a slow drag of lips. the slide of warmth. the gentle push and pull, like a silent conversation in a language only they understood.
she made a soft sound—a quiet, involuntary sigh against his mouth—and seungmin groaned, his grip tightening. in one swift motion, he pulled her into his lap, his arms wrapping securely around her.
she gasped against him, fingers gripping his collar now, knuckles white.
seungmin barely pulled away, his breath mingling with hers. “okay?”
y/n nodded, dazed, her lips already parting for him again.
and so he kissed her again, deeper this time, slower, more deliberate. like he was savoring it. like he wanted to memorize the way she felt against him. the warmth of her. the way her lips yielded so easily to his. the way she sighed when he angled his head just right. he was good at this—really good at this. she could feel it in the way he moved, the way he knew exactly how to kiss her like he had all the time in the world.
it was dizzying.
overwhelming.
addicting.
when they finally pulled away, y/n was breathless, her cheeks burning. seungmin exhaled slowly, his thumb brushing against her cheekbone. she looked adorable. her lips were pink, slightly swollen, her eyes half-lidded and dazed.
“wow,” she whispered.
seungmin smirked. “yeah?”
y/n blinked, nodding furiously. “yeah.”
he chuckled, pressing his forehead against hers. “good.”
for a moment, they just breathed, the weight of what had just happened settling between them.
then—
a sudden blur of gold zoomed past them. they both turned just in time to see star bolting across the grass, his tail wagging so fast it was a blur.
seungmin sighed, rubbing his temple. “of course.”
y/n, still dazed, let out a giggle, her fingers still curled loosely around his collar. “guess he approves.”
seungmin rolled his eyes, but the corners of his lips twitched upward. “yeah, yeah.”
y/n bit her lip, looking down at him. her gaze flickered to his lips. seungmin caught it. his smirk widened.
“you so wanna kiss me again.”
y/n shoved his shoulder. “shut up.”
he laughed, his arms still around her. “you’re not even denying it.”
y/n groaned, burying her face into his shoulder. “shut up.”
seungmin just grinned, his fingers slipping back into her hair.
yeah. this warmth? he could get used to it.
they stayed like that for a while, tangled in the warmth of each other, the air still thick with something unnamed yet understood. neither of them moved immediately—not because they didn’t know what to do next, but because this was nice. the weight of her against him, the slow rhythm of their breaths, the way their fingers stayed lightly curled in each other’s clothes as if neither was quite ready to let go.
eventually, though, reality had to set in.
y/n exhaled, shifting slightly in his lap, her fingers still resting on the collar of his hoodie. “we should probably… y’know.”
seungmin hummed, making no move to let go. “should we?”
she narrowed her eyes, giving him a half-hearted glare. “don’t be annoying.”
he smirked. “i literally can’t help it.”
rolling her eyes, she lightly flicked his forehead before pushing herself up, and immediately regretted it. her legs were numb, her heart was still racing, and the moment she was standing, she suddenly realized—
we just kissed.
the weight of it hit her all over again, sinking into her skin, making her stomach twist in a way she couldn’t quite place. seungmin was still sitting, looking obnoxiously unbothered, like he didn’t just leave her completely breathless. she huffed under her breath, brushing imaginary dust off her sleeves.
meanwhile, seungmin watched her, eyes sharp, amused. he could see the way she was avoiding his gaze, could see the way her fingers twitched, adjusting her sleeves.
it was cute.
“something wrong?” he asked, voice laced with amusement.
she snapped her gaze to him, lips parting, face slightly pink. “huh? no! why would anything be wrong?”
seungmin’s smirk widened. “mhm.”
“i—” she huffed, crossing her arms. “you’re so annoying, i swear.”
he finally stood, stretching his arms above his head before stuffing his hands into his pockets. “and yet…”
y/n groaned. “seungmin.”
he chuckled, glancing at her before tilting his head toward the scattered books. “c’mon, let’s pack up.”
she nodded, relieved for the momentary escape from the weight of that kiss. but even as they gathered their books, even as she stuffed her things into her tote bag, she could still feel it. the warmth, the way he held her, the slow press of his lips against hers.
she turned her back to him, biting her lip to keep herself from grinning like an idiot.
seungmin noticed. he definitely noticed. but he didn’t say anything.
instead, he grabbed her unfinished matcha latte—the one that had started all this in the first place. without thinking, he lifted it to his lips, taking a sip. and y/n, ever the observant one, immediately noticed.
her eyes widened. “did you just—”
he raised a brow. “what?”
“that’s mine.”
seungmin blinked, licking his lips, as if only now realizing. then, he shrugged. “you drank from mine first.”
y/n’s face turned red. he smirked.
flustered, she grabbed her bag, whistled for star, and stormed off in the direction of the dorms. seungmin let out a soft laugh before following.
. . .
the walk back was… not awkward. but not not awkward.
there was something lingering in the air between them, something unspoken, something charged. y/n found herself hyperaware of everything—the distance between them, the way their hands occasionally brushed, the sound of their footsteps on the pavement.
seungmin, for once, wasn’t teasing her.
that, more than anything, made her nervous. she risked a glance at him. he was walking with his hands still in his pockets, eyes ahead, looking as relaxed as ever. if anything, he looked… deep in thought.
“seungmin.”
he turned his head. “hm?”
she hesitated. “are you—are you being weird?”
his lips twitched. “what does that even mean?”
“i don’t know,” she groaned, hugging her tote bag closer. “you’re quiet. you’re never quiet.”
he gave her a look. “i am quiet.”
“not around me.”
seungmin exhaled through his nose, looking away. “…i guess i’m just thinking.”
y/n frowned slightly. “thinking about what?”
he shrugged. “stuff.”
she narrowed her eyes. “what kind of stuff?”
at that, he glanced at her, meeting her gaze for a moment too long. “you.”
y/n’s breath hitched. her face burned.
seungmin looked back ahead, as if he hadn’t just casually said something that made her entire body short-circuit. she opened her mouth. closed it. opened it again. closed it again.
seungmin smirked to himself. they kept walking.
by the time they reached his dorm, the air was slightly less charged, but only because y/n had started rambling about how star needed a new toy collection. she was already planning an entire schedule for star—days when she’d take him out, what treats she’d bake, whether she should get him a sweater for when it got colder.
seungmin just listened, hands in his pockets, nodding occasionally.
when they reached the door, y/n turned to him, rocking on her heels. “so… see you tomorrow?”
seungmin leaned against the doorframe, tilting his head. “you’re not barging in again?”
she pouted. “am i that annoying?”
seungmin’s gaze flickered to her lips for a split second before he smirked. “nah.”
her heart did a thing. she quickly looked away. “okay, well. goodnight, seungmin.”
“ ‘night, y/n.”
she turned, starting down the hall, feeling a little lighter. just as she reached the end, she heard his voice.
“hey, y/n.”
she stopped. looked over her shoulder. “yeah?”
seungmin shoved his hands further into his pockets. for a moment, he just looked at her. then, with a slow, knowing smirk—
“sweet dreams.” and then he shut the door.
y/n stood there. processing. then, with an exasperated groan, she spun on her heel and stormed toward her own dorm.
her face was burning. seungmin, on the other side of the door, chuckled under his breath.
yeah. this was definitely going to be fun.
soon, y/n barely had time to recover from seungmin’s stupid smirk before she opened her dorm door and was immediately met with a chorus of gasps and dramatic expressions.
aeri was lounging on the couch, legs crossed, sipping on what looked like matcha tea (as if that wasn’t already triggering enough). rina was sitting on the floor with her back against the couch, arms crossed, eyes deadly sharp. felix and hyunjin?
they were standing. right in front of her.
like interrogators. waiting.
y/n blinked. “uh—”
aeri squinted. “you’re late.”
rina narrowed her eyes. “suspiciously late.”
hyunjin placed a hand over his chest. “and you didn’t text us back.”
felix gasped dramatically, gripping hyunjin’s shoulder. “she never does that.”
y/n gaped. “never?”
aeri pointed her straw at her. “never.”
“i was busy,” y/n whined, slipping off her shoes. “i did text you guys.”
“hours ago,” rina said.
felix crossed his arms. “so where were you really?”
y/n opened her mouth. closed it. looked around at all their expectant faces.
aeri gasped. “wait.”
everyone turned to her.
she pointed. “you look different.”
hyunjin’s eyes widened. “she does.”
felix leaned in, inspecting her face. “…she’s glowing.”
“i am not—”
“you’re blushing.”
y/n clapped a hand over her face. “i am not blushing.”
rina smirked. “did something happen?”
y/n groaned, throwing herself onto the couch beside aeri. “can i please just breathe?”
“no,” aeri said.
felix gasped again, grabbing hyunjin’s arm dramatically. “wait—what if—”
“what if she kissed seungmin?” hyunjin finished, eyes gleaming.
y/n choked. “what—”
“she totally did,” rina gasped.
aeri sat up, pointing. “you so did.”
felix clapped his hands. “we knew something was happening between you two!”
“i—no you did not—”
“we totally did,” hyunjin argued. “seungmin has never let someone drag him out for picnics.”
aeri wiggled her brows. “did you finally kiss, you slow-burn idiots?”
y/n smacked a cushion over her face. “i hate you all.”
“she’s not denying it.”
rina snorted. “so? how was it?”
“excuse me?”
felix and hyunjin jumped onto the couch, both of them pressing closer.
“be honest,” felix whispered.
“was he good?” hyunjin asked.
“did he—” aeri leaned in, smirking. “use tongue?”
“oh my god—”
. . .
meanwhile, in another part of the building, seungmin finally stepped into his dorm, tossing his bag near the door. he expected peace. silence.
maybe jisung playing some dumb mobile game and minho scrolling on his phone. instead..
the moment he closed the door, jisung and minho—sitting side by side on the couch—turned to look at him in perfect unison.
seungmin paused.
jisung raised a brow. “you’re late.”
seungmin exhaled. “oh my god, not you too.”
minho sipped his coffee. “he seems unusually… relaxed.”
seungmin narrowed his eyes. “and?”
jisung smirked. “you never come back relaxed.”
seungmin rolled his eyes, moving toward the fridge. “you guys are annoying.”
jisung gasped. “minho. minho. look at him.”
minho hummed. “i see it.”
seungmin turned. “see what?”
jisung grinned. “you got some, didn’t you?”
minho smirked. “i knew you liked her.”
seungmin groaned, running a hand down his face. “you both need to shut up.”
jisung sat up, eyes gleaming. “you did kiss her, didn’t you?”
seungmin exhaled, grabbed a water bottle, and took a long sip.
minho raised a brow. “he’s avoiding.”
“he’s totally avoiding.”
seungmin sighed, leaning against the counter. “i hate both of you.”
jisung grinned. “we love you too.”
minho smirked, setting his cup down. “so? how was it?”
seungmin scoffed. “what is wrong with you people?”
jisung gasped dramatically. “you didn’t like it?”
seungmin froze for half a second.
jisung smirked. “ohhh, you totally did.”
minho nodded, smug. “he liked it.”
seungmin rolled his eyes. “shut up.”
jisung grinned, leaning back. “it’s okay, you can tell us. we don’t judge.”
minho nodded, taking another sip of his coffee. “we definitely judge.”
seungmin exhaled. “i hate you both.”
jisung smirked. “we know.” . . . “so…” rina wiggled her brows. “you’re seeing him again tomorrow?”
y/n groaned, collapsing onto the couch. “i see him everyday.”
felix smirked. “because you love him.”
y/n choked. “i do not—”
hyunjin held up his hands. “we’re just saying.”
aeri snickered. “you so do.”
y/n grabbed a cushion and screamed into it.
her friends just laughed.
meanwhile, back in seungmin’s dorm, minho stretched, setting his cup down. “so, what now?”
seungmin shrugged. “dunno.”
jisung smirked. “you gonna kiss her again?”
seungmin grabbed his pillow and chucked it at him.
jisung yelped.
minho snickered.
seungmin just leaned back against the couch, arms crossed, watching jisung groan into the pillow.
he would kiss her again.
he absolutely would.
but they didn’t need to know that.
yet.
“not like you two didn’t kiss or do each other while you had the dorm to yourself.”
minho didn’t even blink.
jisung, however. jisung choked on his own breath.
minho exhaled. “ah.”
minho took another sip of his coffee, unbothered. “he has a point.”
jisung spluttered. “excuse me?”
seungmin smirked. “you’re telling me you guys were alone for hours and did nothing?”
minho shrugged. “not my fault if he’s loud.”
jisung died. “i was not loud.”
minho hummed, setting his coffee down. “mm. sure.”
seungmin snorted. “see? it’s so obvious.”
jisung clutched his chest. “i hate you both.”
minho stretched. “no, you don’t.”
jisung threw a pillow at him.
seungmin just sat back, grinning, absolutely enjoying this.
jisung groaned, burying his face in his hands. “i hate my life.”
minho patted his head. “that’s okay. i love you.”
seungmin smirked. “aw.”
jisung screamed into his hands.

Give It Up Pt 3
Megatronus Prime x Reader
• Venting in frustration when you swat his servos, chirping angrily, he just needs to see the little display on your arm long enough to figure out if he can pull your language from it. Something you’re absolutely not having. Studying your little suit more closely, he frowns. Maybe you’re breathing some exotic gas and need the suit to survive? “I don’t need your entire suit,” he says, holding a palm over his own arm and miming flipping up an invisible screen like you just did . Wishes he could get a better look at you, because your features are just an indistinct shadow through the tinted helmet. Staring up at him, you lay your own palm on your display and chirp softly. “On my honor, I’ll return your tech to you.”
• Grumbling, his awful language, he repeats the gesture. Why does he want your display? While you can detach it, you’re not sure you should. Though you doubt the super advanced living robot is the least bit interested in your tech. It’s probably the equivalent of a DOS computer to you. Or maybe a telegram. He’s defiantly not stealing secrets from it. And he’s not hurt you so far. Shook you until you nearly hurled, but you don’t think he was trying to harm you. If you’re trapped who knows where, you’re going to need someone to trust. You really hope that’s him.
• Chirping unhappily, you mess with the display until it detaches and hold the tiny thing out. And it’s such a shock that you’re willing to trust him. Extending a servo, he waits while you look at the display then at him before laying it on his servo. “Thank you, little one.” Lifting it, he squints at the tiny thing and shifts it to his datapad to try to sync the primitive technology. “You’re being very brave.”
• You really hope your GPS isn’t in the display. Really wish you’d paid more attention when the tech guys were explaining the minutiae of the suits instead of being terrified of what you were going to find on the other side of the portal. Giant, alien robots definitely hadn’t been on your bingo card, though. What can he even get off the thing, really? Nothing dangerous. Probably? Like coordinates to your world? “Please don’t be an evil, giant robot.”
• Waiting for the datapad to compile and create a language file for him, he studies you. Wonders what organics eat and how exactly you’d wound up on Cybertron. A peaceful explorer? You don’t seem to have any weapons. Can’t understand the language. And you’re so tiny as to be helpless. Probably not a warring species. Certainly don’t look at all intimidating in your puffy little suit. Moving closer, you rock up on tiptoe to try and see his datapad and chirp at him. Pointing with a finger and you’re just so adorable. “I’m going to give it back,” he reassures you, smiling behind his mask. Definitely not a warring species. You’re much too cute to be dangerous.

Late Nights On Kitchen Floors Sometimes Lead To Confessions
Summary: You come home late one night to find your roommate Jason sobbing on the kitchen floor.
Warnings and A/N: some negative self-thoughts on Jason’s side. In this fic Jason is feeling a lot of feelings :) because we love our men crying and traumatized. Pre-relationship! This is my first time writing for Jason so I hope I did him justice. Written in the second person, gender neutral reader, I tried to make reader as inclusive as possible so if I missed something please let me know! JUSTKNOW that my heart broke while writing this. (final note, I wrote this at 4am so don’t judge me)
Words: 0.9k
I also posted this on ao3 if you want!!
Click
You secure the last of the locks on your door as you start to take your boots off along with your coat. Immediately as you stepped in your mind went into autopilot, following your routine so effortlessly that only after what was definitely too many seconds do you notice a heaving sound coming from your kitchen.
“Jason?”
The words leave your mouth with a tinge of hope that it was just him and not a break-in you’d have to deal with at this ungodly hour in the morning. You check the time with a flick of your phone. 2:14am.
You receive no response and reach for the bat Jason insisted you left hidden in the umbrella stand. You can never be too safe were his exact words and you’d honestly have to thank him if you made it out tonight. It’s only when you cross the door that you see him: Jason and all of his 6 feet of muscles are scrunched up into a wavering ball, his hands clutching his clothes and his head planted into his knees. All this time you’ve known him and yet he has never looked as vulnerable as he does now, on your dusty crumble-covered floor with tears in his eyes.
At first no words come out of your mouth, how could they? You’ve talked to Jason just a couple of hours ago on your phone, he called saying he just wanted to hear your voice. He was fine earlier. He was. He asked how your day was. He listened, hanging off your every word. But now here he was in front of you, a broken shell of a man.
Trying to not startle him you get closer and call out his name again. This time he hears you.
He lifts his head and you can see smudged tear stains all over his face probably from an attempt to erase them. An hiccup escapes him and your heart breaks.
“Oh baby,” you scooch in front of him and take his face in your hands.
“What happened? What’s wrong?”
He can’t speak. The words are jabbed in his throat, threatening to suffocate him. He opens his mouth but nothing other than a strangled sound comes out. You start petting his hair.
“Hey, hey, it’s fine, you don’t have to say anything alright?”
You settle on the floor and try to maneuver his body onto yours, his head on your shoulder. His body adapts to yours, his arms wrap around you and he feels like everything is going to be alright. One of your hands runs up and down his spine in a soothing manner while the other is nestled in his hair.
A couple of minutes pass and you’re still holding him. Jason thinks he likes it. Being held, that is.
After some more time his head lifts from your shoulder and your hands move to his forearms, caressing the skin there. He takes a deep, shuddering breath before speaking.
“I, ehm…” Jason’s gaze lays low and his hands start to play with yours. “I have to tell you something.”
You nod and tell him to take his time. He bites his lip, still looking down.
“I- Fuck, I messed this up. I really did. This was gonna be so much more romantic I swear. I was gonna- I was gonna invite you to that one bookstore we always go to, I was going buy you all the books you set your eyes on and- and I planned a walk through the park- the one- the one you like-” his voice keeps breaking and hiccuping, “-and walk through the flowerbeds and maybe if the day had gone well I would have had the courage to hold your hand.” he wipes a tear off his face with the palm of his hand.
You try to speak but he speaks first.
“I like you. I really really like you. I wanted to do this well, tomorrow, but- I don’t know. I got too much in my own head and I’m-” Jason bites his lip and tears fill his eyes again, “I’m really sorry this is how I confess, you deserve so much better, so much better and I’m a mess and, and-” you grab his face and force him to look at you.
“Jason Peter Todd, you listen to me carefully.” his big teary eyes look at your stern ones, “The only reason I’m not kissing you right now is because you deserve a beautifully romantic first kiss because you like beautifully romantic things. You deserve all the wonderful things this world has to offer.”
Jason thinks his heart has never felt so warm.
“Wha-what?”
His words make you giggle and now he thinks his heart might actually implode.
“I like you.”
“I like you too.”
Now your giggle turned into a proper laugh which made Jason smile.
“Yeah, that was pretty obvious from the earlier declaration of love.” Now he’s giggling too.
“Does that ehm- does that mean you want to be my girlfriend?” You giggle again at the innocence in his voice and Jason thinks he’d die all over again just for a chance to hear you laugh one more time.
“Yes, yes it does. Only if you take me to that date you were talking about though.”
He smiles. “We could go now.”
Your eyes widen. “Now? At 2am?”
He shrugs. “I’m Red Hood. Nothing bad is gonna happen.”
You scoff. “Yeah alright, but I think the bookstore might be closed.”
“Ah. Right. Tomorrow then.”
“Eager?”
His smile only gets bigger. “Duh, I have a girlfriend to take out.”
Thank you for reading!! Constructive criticism/advice is always welcome!

“a real man”
dbf!in-ho x you
when a family party takes place, you finally met the one and only hwang in-ho, your father’s best friend. when unsettled disputes take place, you find shelter with the man who was thrice your age.
“y/n, get the door will you?” your dad asked, taking the plates from your hands as you made your way to the front door.
you yanked the door open, mumbling under your breath. why did he have to throw this party anyway? it’s not like it was the first time you were home, why was he making such a big deal out of it?
“hey, sweetheart. is your dad home?” a man said.
you took a good look of the man that stood before you in the doorway. holy shit.
“in-ho! there you are! was starting to think you were ditching your old pal!” your father’s voice boomed from behind you, pushing you away from the door as he took your place, inviting the unfamiliar man in.
“it’s good to see you too, man.” he chuckled.
“i’m assuming you’ve met y/n?” your father introduced, stepping aside, revealing your confused face.
“i did…” in-ho nodded, “quite a pretty one.”
a blush crept onto your cheeks. “thank you.”
“polite too? you raised her well.”
“of course i did. don’t know what her mum’s been teaching her though, been a little angsty lately.” your dad revealed, making your eyes grow wide.
“can we not do this now?” you gritted, glaring at him.
after that, you never saw much of in-ho, being cooped up in the house while everyone was having the time of their lives outside with your dad in the party that he had organised for you.
eventually, you grew bored, grabbing a drink and hopping onto the kitchen counter as you watched the party unfold in the backyard with your father.
“hey, what are you doing here?” in-ho’s gentle voice rang in your ears, snapping you out from zoning out.
“these aren’t even my friends, they’re my dad’s.” you said defeated, peeking at the ongoing party outside.
“guessed it. didn’t think you’d be friends with all us older men.” he joked, making you chuckle, shaking your head. “you know, if it’s not pushing your boundaries, can i ask-why did your dad throw this get-together again?”
“i’ve been living with my mom for a few months, today’s the first time i’m back in awhile.” you told him. “oh, i’m sorry, do you want a beer or something?”
“don’t be silly, kid. this is your party, i’ll get it myself.” he smiled.
the two of you sat in comfortable silence as he leaned against the counter beside you, giving you the silent company you needed.
“you know for what it’s worth, i think you look beautiful.” in-ho broke the silence, turning his head slightly to face you.
“you’re not so bad yourself.” suddenly, he felt a sense of pride overwhelm him. he couldn’t possibly grasp the thought of you finding him attractive as he found you. afterall, he was almost thrice your age.
when it was finally time for a sit-around at the dining table, you were way out of your comfort zone. eyes burned holes into you from every angle, giving you no space for privacy whatsoever.
“so, y/n… youe dad tells me that you’ve been living with your mom?” a friend of your father’s questioned.
there we go. “uh, yeah.”
“how’s it like there? she any better than your dad?” he teased, making your father let out a low laugh as you shifted uncomfortably in your seat.
“c-can we don’t talk about this-”
“of course it is!” youe father interrupted. “couldn’t even get her to come over for a good few months, must have been really great.”
only in-ho noticed you were in distress, your breathing getting faster as your leg shook under the table. testing waters, he placed a hand on your thigh under the table, hoping to give you some stability to get through the dinner.
when you felt his warm hand on your thigh, you jerked away initially, thinking that it was one of thise old creeps who had touched you. but upon realising that it was only in-ho you shifted closer to him. as if you were silently begging for his help.
“we can all be gentleman at this table, let’s not give the lady any trouble, huh?” in-ho had intervened, anger slowly building up inside of him as they continued to press you with uncomfortable questions.
“hey speaking of your mom, she ever bring anyone home recently? like a colleague? maybe a friend?” you father asked.
“no.” you stated bluntly, you could already feel your eyes being welled up with tears.
but it didn’t stop there, you father as well as his friends made no effort to stop their interrogation.
eventually, you broke, letting the tears spill onto your lap as you tried your best to play it off without drawing anymore attention to yourself, but it was in vain.
“kid, are you cryin’?” one of them laughed, catching the attention of the rest.
“she is!”
“why are you crying, little girl?”
“do you want your mommy?”
in-his fist grew tighter around the handle of the fork he was holding, he couldn’t sit there and watch as you were being tormented by these sick bastards.
“boys, that’s enough!” he suddenly yelled, causing the room to go dead silent.
without another word said, he stood up, his chair scraping ear piercingly on the wooden floor as he grabbed your hand, pulling you away from the table and out the front door.
luckily for you, in-ho was only staying a couple blocks down, no more than a good three minute walk. the whole time, he said nothing, only changing his grip on you from the hand to your waist, leading you to his porch.
when you got to the doorstep, you stopped on your tracks, making him turn around, quickly taking a quick scan of your face to see if he had hurt you on accident.
“hey, talk to me, what’s wrong, love?” he asked in a soft tone, as if he were talking to a little girl.
“i can’t be here.” you said, looking up at him teary-eyed. “my dad will kill me.”
“nonsense… i won’t let him lay a hand on you, i promise. it’s better to stay here than with all the rascals there anyway.”
you winced at his harsh words, reminding you once again of the conversation at the dinner table.
“let’s not think about any of that anymore, alright? come in, you must be exhausted too, pretty girl.” he said as he ushered you inside.
in-ho’s house was warm. it smelt like him, the dim yellow lights bluncing off the perfectly decorated walls of his home. it was so quiet, just perfect.
“here, you can change into this. make yourself comfortable.” he said as he offered you a shirt and sweatpants which looked like it was his.
you thanked him and headed to the bathroom to change out of your clothes. when you were returned bacm to the living room, he was already on the sofa, legs spreaded out cozily as a tv programme played.
“there you are, do you have anything you wanna do in mind?”
‘no’ you shooke your head.
“then why don’t we just stay here and watch some movies. how does that sound?”
a smile broke on your face, making him feel a sense of relief. but to his surprise, you didn’t take just any emoty end of the sofa. you shuffled up close to him, merely centremeters away as he could smell your perfume that hadn’t worn off. it was driving him crazy.
as the two of you sat in silence, watching the show, in-ho noticed how your head was starting to fall closer and closer to his chest. he took a peak, seeing that you were now barely awake, struggling to keep your eyes open. he chuckled, pulling away, making your slowly open your eyes and lifting your head.
“no, no, stay there.” he cooed, moving closer in a more snug position for the both of you. and wirh his signal, you laid your head on his chest, your body and legs curled into a ball as he draped his arm over you while the other found its way to your hair. he combed through the soft, lush strands, lulling you to sleep as he did so.
“goodnight, y/n.” he whispered before leaning down carefully, placing a kiss on your forehead, watching as you tried to snuggle up closer to him.
in-ho knew he was doomed. it was a dangerous game he was playing with his best friend’s daughter. but at that moment, he realised just how bad he had had it for you. and there was no turning back.

i stumbled upon this while scrolling and it's such a well-written post that i just had to share my thought on this too!
first of all, i've been a fanfic reader since i was very young so i know what it feels like to be on the other side. i've been anxious and nervous to reblog or write comments and have never even thought of messaging the authors i read and liked just because i was terrified of being perceived. but trust me, writers are so incredibly grateful for every little interaction they get. i know it can be nerve wracking but you will never be judged for what you have to say! every single piece of feedback and opinion i get means the whole world to me and every time i get a comment, a reblog or an ask makes me so happy, it seriously makes my whole day.
i've been on the writer side since summer 2023 and a couple of months ago i came back after an extremely long hiatus and was so scared and worried because almost a year had passed since i had last promised updates yet i had failed to come back due to many reasons. but then i saw that people still cared and even though i lost most of my readers from back when i first started writing, i was so happy to see that new people were getting interested and were actually willing to talk to me and share their feedbacks. so thank you, to those who have been doing that <3
i don't judge people who decide to stay silent but trust me, there's nothing to fear! writers don't bite, we're human too so of course, naturally we thrive off interactions too, just like anyone else. there isn't a barrier between the two groups - all of us are fans of the same things and share the same interests, this is always a two way relationship.
writing is my hobby and something i like doing but sometimes the silence is killing me especially after coming back from a hiatus 😭 i don't write for notes, i do it for my own enjoyment but still, hearing something nice about your works always feels good and validating!
and about the genres - i see too what's more read and what's popular but it's so sad to hear that authors force themselves to write something that they don't originally really want to just to have someone read their stories. every story is worth giving a chance and authors shouldn't be required to fit themselves into certain boxes just so people pay attention. no one can be forced to read anything of course but my whole point is to be kind to authors and give them a chance because sometimes you can find such gems when you least expect it.
of course, there will always be genres that are more generally liked but we need diversity too so please, writers do what you want and what you love - the right people will appreciate it.
and on that note...i've been mostly writing smaus/texts so i feel like like sometimes it's even harder to get feedback and i think these are not as read as before but i still think it's worth keeping even this genre alive just because it's so fun (at least to me).
i just hope our community here stays alive for longer and starts thriving because it's so sad to see so many people leave :(
just be brave, interact and encourage others to do so too! support your favourite writers because they all are amazing and deserve all the love in this world!
to a dying? atinyblr
i don't usually speak about these things, but a lot of blogs (amazing writers) are leaving this platform or taking time off bc of lack of engagement which serves as a big demotivating factor. especially and specifically in this atiny fandom, some things have come to my attention and i just want all readers and writers to take a look at this post and refresh some reading and writing etiquettes, as well as revive the essence of being a part of this fandom.
feedback:
i understand that there are a lot of silent readers on here, but since tumblr is dying and our fandom is not very huge, the least you can do to show the writers some support is like the post.
which brings me to the point that the like function didn't even exist in the past. this site still runs on reblogs. as readers, to show your favourite writers some semblance of support, you should be reblogging with tags. a simple ‘#ateez x reader’ or ‘#ateez fics’ is enough. it's literally not asking for much– reblogs are the only way writers can get reach.
if you cannot do that bc of your blog's aesthetic or whatever, side blogs exist. if you still cannot do that, a simple anon ask appreciating the writer sometimes saves them.
also, what has happened to the quality of reblogs? readers consume years of writers’ work and efforts in mere hours and don’t even leave any feedback? art in general in all forms is very underappreciated and with all sorts of problems like plagiarism, ai writing and everything, true art and writing is dying and needs to be appreciated now more than ever. we’re literally the last generation witnessing ai take over in all fields of arts. appreciate content creators before it’s too late, don’t be a content glutton!
updates and requests:
asking writers for updates when they specifically mention that they would prefer posting at their pace is wrong for so many reasons– we all have a real life. you, the reader, do too. just like you don't always have time to read, writers don't always have time to write. do you ever see the writers asking their readers 'why have you not read my latest chapter?'
most of the times, writers mention in their bio/faq post or elsewhere that they do mind being asked about updates. respect your writers, please, and do a little scroll before you send such demanding asks (also, sugarcoating when asking for updates does not make it any better!)
if you are only asking about updates, it demotivates a lot of writers bc these same people will disappear when it is time for feedback. writing is a form of art. we can write, artists can paint, musicians can compose music, but all of it has no meaning unless it is shared with an audience and appreciated. readers are just as important as the writers but there is no way of knowing fics are valued unless feedback is given.
the same goes for requests. you can only send a request when the requests are open, which is usually mentioned in the writer’s bio/faq post. it’s literally not that hard to check if requests are open and it’s basic decency to not send a request when the writers specifically mention that requests are closed. when sending a request, please be courteous. a ‘please’ or ‘thank you’ are examples of being courteous when sending requests.
the fanfics in atinyblr:
i understand that you can read whatever you like, but why is it that in the atiny fandom, fics that do not contain smut hardly ever get attention? as a writer, i enjoy writing and reading smut, and while i am not specifically a smut blog, i have noticed how fics containing smut get far more reach than fics that do not contain smut– not just in my case, but other amazing writers as well.
there are such amazing fictions in this fandom. all fics are crafted with dedication and care, yet stories without smut often get sidelined. writers are not able to express themselves in their writing freely anymore and they simply conform to a genre they know readers will consume, as they are forced to consider adding smut to their stories so they can get more reach in this fandom. i have heard accounts from a lot of writers who were inclined to add smut to an otherwise smut-free fic just for reach.
this is by no means hate to the smut writers. i am also not placing blame on them. smut drabbles have always been in this fandom, and there are amazing smut writers out there, doing their thing. it is the readers here who are failing the writers. readers are quick to talk about the lack of ‘good fics’ or ‘plot’ yet will not even bother searching for these works. there used to be a good balance and appreciation for all genres alike.
i know that smut is what's hot and trendy these days, and drabbles in general, no matter the genre, are easier to read when you want to take a short break. but there is such a lack of longfics in this fandom, especially as of lately, and as someone who has personally witnessed the ratio of longfics decrease exponentially, i felt the need to point this out. appreciate all writers! appreciate all genres! longfic writers need as much validation and encouragement as drabble writers, and vice versa! don't be too harsh on longfic writers for not pumping out fics at the same speed as shortfic writers.
and on that note, smut drabble writers experience a lack of quality feedback despite the high engagement, so readers, please don't hesitate to point out exactly what you liked about a fic, even if it's a short drabble! be kind to those writers, give them time to write and be kind when sending requests! they may post more often but they, too, have a life.
tags:
this is specifically for the people who will post a very normal picture of a member, no caption, but tag it something like #ateez smut, #ateez hard hours, #ateez x reader. and for the people who tag their asks with irrelevant tags– literally learn to tag your post properly, and stop crowding the wrong tags. you're just proving the point that if you don't tag a post with the smut tag or something similar, it won't get reach. if you've posted with a caption, that makes sense (though it still doesn't warrant some of the tags being used there).
as for writers, also learn to use your tags appropriately. fics that do not contain smut should not be tagged with smut related tags. believe in yourself. i get that there is the problem of reach but do not overcrowd tags with irrelevant material.
disclaimer:
this is by no means about me. if i cared about the notes, or lack thereof, i would have stopped writing a while ago. while it is challenging to be a writer here, especially as of lately, i still enjoy posting whatever i write no matter the genre or the word count. but it's a bit disappointing that my planned out fics get much less attention than a simple smut headcanons post that i wrote in the heat of the moment with my friend in literally a few hours as a joke (which has reached almost 10k notes btw in a span of 2 years). sure, it has exposed my blog to new readers but that's about it.
this post is for all the amazing writers who have left, are thinking of leaving, or are struggling to voice these problems because they are afraid of being marked as 'problematic' or a 'hater' or something worse. i am not afraid to voice my opinion on here, and if you think that i am wrong, feel free to interact with this post and correct me because i am not claiming that i am right about this.
these are just the observations i have made as someone who has been actively writing on this platform for about 4 years now, and since i have a decent number of followers, i hope this post gets more reach. do not be afraid to reblog this if you agree, and even if you do not, reblog this so someone else gets educated. i may have missed some points so feel free to add if you want too.
#i feel like this got super long and i'm just rambling but yeah#thank you to everyone who shows support#yall mean the world to me and i'm seriously so grateful#feedback really does save me because sometimes even writing can get tedious and can burn you out#thanks if anyone even read this 😭 i talk a lot

Tag list for Paul Mescal/Lucius: OPEN
“Come here my little dove.” Lucius waving you over to him as he sat on the bed his legs spread prompting you to step between them. This position felt so intimate and warm it was very foreign to you. “Don’t be shy with me now.”
Lifting your silk dress and placing your legs on either side of his hips to sit on his lap. To your surprise though, he lays back and wraps his arms under your thighs pulling you upward. "What are you doing?"
"I am starving." He responds back, guiding your body up towards his face. Panic ensues and your inexperience starts to show when you have no idea what he’s about to do, or if you were gonna be able to do what he wanted. Pushing your body up so you were using the stone wall to hold yourself up.
“How can you be starving when you’ve eaten enough to feed an entire army?” Confused when he starts kissing along your inner thighs his facial hair tickling against your skin. Lucius could already smell your arousal, and was even more eager to dive in.
“Do you trust me?” He questions sensing your hesitation and nervousness. Judging by the look on your face you’ve never done this, and to be honest he was excited to be your first.
The first time you and Lucius laid eyes on each other the two of you have become inseparable. Even though he was a simple gladiator, and you were of royalty. That still didn’t stop the two of you from sneaking off into the dead of night. Knowing the risk if you two were caught, but something told you Lucius would always protect you.
“Of course I do Lucius.” Staring down at his face trying to sound confident, but you know he could hear your shaky voice.
“Then just follow my lead.” His head now positioned directly above your cunt. Licking his lips as he stared so intensely between your legs you felt like you could pass out. It just now hitting you what he was wanting you to do.
Nodding with him really doubting yourself, and just hoping whatever you were about to do was going to bring him immense pleasure. Holding your dress around your waist so you could watch what he was about to do. His thick hands holding onto your hips, and guiding you to sit on his face. His tongue right up against your cunt. A heat rising to your cheeks being in such a vulnerable position.
“I don’t want to suffocate you.” Anxiety bubbling over trying to lift yourself back up, and all he could do was smirk up at you.
“Then I shall die a true gladiators death.” He says before slamming you back down on his face. A gasp slipping past your lips at the sudden movement.
His tongue working furiously inside of you thrusting and swirling in all the right places. Finding yourself shamelessly riding his face without even realizing it. Gasps and whimpers leaving your lips echoing around the room hoping none of the servants heard. Lucius’s thumbs soothingly rubbing your already sweaty skin.
“Sweet as honeyed wine.” Muffling more to himself than you, but his words still held a grip on you.
“Oh gods.” Crying out as you looked down watching as he hungrily lapped at your cunt like he was a starved wild animal. One hand keeping your dress up while the other attached to his head a tight grip on his hair. All he could do was groan which vibrated against your clit.
Your orgasm was quickly approaching, and your entire body felt like it was on fire. You’ve never ever felt anything like this before. Lucius looked up at your remarkable expression, and it had him hard as stone. He loved holding your pleasure in his grasp, and made him feel like he had unlimited power.
“I’m close.” Rotating your hips as he thrusted his tongue as deep as he could the bridge of his nose brushing against your puffy clit. It was overwhelming as it felt like the room was spinning, and the walls were closing around you.
“Let go I am right here.” He encouraged as he started to suck on your clit. Holding you down refusing to let you go, and he just keeps going. It was everything that you never knew you needed. Throwing your head back as a cry of pleasure left your lips, and your thighs squeezing the sides of his head.
Listening as his tongue lapped up your juices, your legs shaking as he eased you through your orgasm. Using his chest to lift yourself off his face your legs feeling like noodles. Lucius adjusting his position so he was sitting upright his hands never leaving your hips as he made you sit back down on his lap. Watching in awe as he wiped his mouth his beard glistening under the blaze of the candles.
“My sweet little dove.” A hand reaching up to caress your cheek with a soft smile. Hands down by his hips as you mindlessly played with the fabric of his pants. “Now tell me, are you a virgin?”

Hi!, here's a Tamlin x reader request. So reader is always so fun and smiley and happy but every night, when everyone is asleep, she goes to the garden and sits there alone crying because of her abusive past. One day, when Tamlin goes to open the window at night, he notices you crying while sitting in the garden. Then he realises you do it every day. So one day, when reader goes to the garden, she notices he's sitting there. He asks her why cries there every night and they have a lil chat, and then tamlin eventually cups her face, looks her in the eyes and tells her "you mean everything to me. There's no one that matters to me more than you" or something like that. And then he just comforts her 🥺. Just make it super fluffy ✨️.
Among The Lilies
Summary - There was always a pro and con to every situation, and being Lady Spring was no different.
Warnings - Mentions of alcohol, overstimulation, feelings of being out of place and not belonging
A/N - This has been sitting in my drafts for a while. I am so sorry to the anon who requested this. I'm still not sure I captured what I was hoping for with this, but fingers crossed.
🌹Tamlin Masterlist🌹Master Masterlist🌹
You sighed as you chugged your second glass of sweet floral wine, watching the fae of your court dance for another night of celebrations. You weren't used to this. You were a forest nymph, a low fae who the Cauldron seemed to think belonged with Tamlin, a High Lord. You were not used to loud parties filled with fae laughing and dancing the way Tamlin was. You were used to silence, to fireside celebrations, small groups among a large crowd. You made the best of his gathering, though. Becoming known for being the life of the party and dancing the night away.
Celebrations like this had started to become a norm. Every accomplishment was met with wine, music, and dancing as Tamlin brought your home back to its former glory. The fae of Spring had been so excited to celebrate the Equinox this year that they had asked you and Tamlin to take it from a night of debauchery and fun to a week of dancing, drinking, and revelry. It would be the first the court had celebrated in 6 years and with the new court voted taxation system, the new faith in their High Lord, and if rumors and whispers were true, the influence of you, it was hard for Tamlin to deny them anything.
So here you were. Wearing the smile that didn't reach your eyes, struggling to breathe in the corset dress you had a love-hate relationship with, and waiting to slip out unnoticed. You had been enjoying yourself, but you were slowly becoming over stimulalated from the countless males and females touching you, thanking you, trying to dance with you. You were exhausted from the late parties that quickly faded into morning duties and after assignments.
You finally saw your chance, sparing one last look to where your husband stood, Lucien by his side, laughing at something Tarquin said. You bolted then, running to the doors and through the halls before slowing to a walk at the private garden Tamlin had planted for you.
The garden had become your safe place. A place for you to cry, to use your magic to recenter yourself, and to find peace. You felt almost guilty, coming here again and bombarding the poor sprites as they danced and enjoyed their little fires and celebration. Such small, kind creatures, but yet some of Springs most important. "Forgive me," you inclined your head before heading to the fountain you knew they'd be nowhere near.
This had become a ritual for you the past few nights, hiding out here with your back and head against the cool marble, breathing in the scent of fresh blooming roses and lilies. You typically stayed here until you relaxed before heading back in, but a sprite had different plans this time.
Small hands touched your cheek, wiping the tears that were falling as you finally collected yourself. A female fluttered her gossamer like wings next to you, her light green skin contrasting her flower petal dress. "Why is my lady sad?"
You smiled, holding a hand out to her and allowing her to land. "Not sad, just tired."
"Lilies are the flowers of sadness. You come here when you're sad. You go to the roses when you're blushing. The daisies for joy." She stood and held your thumb as if to hug and hold you. "Please tell me what's wrong?" Your heart ached, burdening this innocent creature with your frustration. Yet, she only nodded, seeming to understand the feelings you were having. Soon, you two became so engrossed in conversations that you didn't notice green eyes watching from a window and a sharp mind wondering why his wife had closed off their bond.
The next night was more of the same. More fae dragging you to dance. More hands touching your exposed arms. More music. More everything. You were not sly as you escaped this time and all but ran to your beloved fountain. Faltering, you saw Tamlin, a single rose in his hand as he sat watching the sprites.
"I had thought to myself, perhaps my rose just needed fresh air the first night you ran out here," his voice washed over you like rain as you walked over, sitting next to him. "Then it happened again. And again. Then, for the fourth time. And again tonight. You're coming here to cry, and evidently do so frequently, your friends have told me that much," a sprite with a familiar smile disappeared from your view. "But she will not tell me the one thing I want to know." His eyes finally met yours, lingering and studying your expression. "Why," the question was simple, one you should have been able to answer.
You finally found it in your mind, looking at the root of the complicated problem. "I struggle to feel I belong among the high fae still." You took a spot beside him, pulled your knees up and hugged them. "I offer pretty smiles, I give them the positive words they expect, and I play the part of happy wife, but I still struggle."
He hummed, his calloused hand finding yours, "Are you a happy wife? Or do I need to provide more?" His tone had changed, realizing this was more than feeling overcrowded. This was his mate, opening that dark feeling he knew was festering.
You could only smile at him, a real one that did reach your eyes, "I am happy in all aspects of our marriage. I just want a sense of belonging when it comes to other courtly matters." That was where you struggled. You struggled with the weight that came from the jewels you wore, the circlet on your head.
"Oh, you belong," he murmured as he pulled you closer. "You are this court. The very soul that drives it. Being a nymph does nothing to change that." His thumb came up, wiping a tear you had not realized was falling. "There is more. I can feel an ache in your heart wanting to come forward."
Moments of silence passed, "Am I enough?" That question had him cupping your chin, forehead resting against yours as you continued. "I don't want to be High Lady. I don't have the drive and ambition Lady Summer, Lady Night, or Lady Day have. I enjoy my place at your side, but not-"
His free hand came up, holding both sides of your face as he shushed you, thumbs continuing to swipe your cheeks. "You are more than enough. You are everything to me." His forehead stayed touching yours, your noses brushing as he spoke, "I love you as you are, for who you are. It would break me to see you change your drive to match the desires of others instead of your own."
You nodded as you were listening to his words. You could feel the beat of your heart beginning to match his, your body relaxing to match his. "I just want to be everything you've ever asked for," you confessed.
"And you are more," his lips twitched, "Cauldron, you are so much more. You are perfect for me. Perfect for my court. You are-" Tamlin paused trying to find the words. "I could write all the poetry in the world, source from the greatest love stories of legend, yet nothing could compare to what you are to me."
Those tears changed at that, sadness replaced by warmth as he touched his lips to yours in a comforting kiss before pulling back. "You are my sun," he whispered. "You are not just my world. You are the center I orbit. You are the source of light and warmth. You are how I time my day." Your smile was growing as he continued to speak, hands finding his broad chest as your eyes closed to fully process and enjoy the timber of his voice.
"I love you. I just.. I love you." He ended it so easily. Three words that encompassed thousands of emotions he could describe. "Never change and never hide these feelings from me. Let me help shoulder your burdens."
You leaned up, kissing him as you opened the bond, "And I love you." Your arms wrapped around him, head resting on his chest. "We should go back before our guests worry."
"Let them worry," he kissed the top of your head. "Let's enjoy the garden and the sprites."

Sweet Seas
💘💘Midnight's DCA Valentine's Day 1💘💘
Starting out strong with some fish! And by strong i mean this is very syrupy sweet/fluffy, hope you enjoy!
Prompt: Tempest coming in once again with the fish. How about a scuba diver yn with a houseboat? Fish boys trying chocolate for the first time with yn? Maybe catching special fish for them?
Word Count: 2498
Read here if you prefer ao3!
💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌
The wind sweeps up your hair through the open window, making you clutch onto your hat with your free hand. You glance back down to your map, making sure you're at the right coordinates. You swore this was the right spot. If it's not, you'll be a little more than stressed about it. Though, you're sure that if it came down to it, they'd find you before you'd find them again.
Still, you'd only been planning on a brief trip back to land, just to refuel, stock up on food, and so on. And get your mail. Which there was lots of. Much more than you'd have thought. Though, it'd been a month or so, and with Valentine's day around the corner, you should have expected it. All your family and friends had sent their gifts early, like to make sure you'd receive them in time.
One of the initial cons to living out on your little houseboat was the lack of proper communication between you and the outside world, but you'd made it work for the most part. Besides, at this point you don't think you could go back to a normal day job, pencil pushing at a desk all day. No thanks.
Being out on the open ocean, documenting the sea life you came across up close and reporting back your first hand accounts, you'd take that any day. The crisp sea air, the sparkling waters all around you, the shining stars at night, it was perfect.
A loud thump on the other end of the boat resounds throughout, just slightly rocking you.
There was also the added fact of the matter that if you returned to land again, two certain someone's would be a little more than displeased about it.
It had been an accident, coming across the two mers during your travels. You didn't even know they were real, much less that they could be giant sea creatures. All hiding down below the surface of that vast expanse.
Why these two had decided to befriend you as opposed to making you a light snack, you still weren't sure yourself. Rather, after the initial shock on both sides, they'd seemingly grown rather fond of you, as you had them. Exchanging stories and laughter and the likes.
Both were rather large fans of affection and the likes, fighting over head scratches and forehead kisses. They loved to bring you things, as well, you'd noticed. Initially lots and lots of fish, though once you explained you had your own food they switched to things like shells or random human things that had sunk below. But also more fish—alive this time—for your research.
You'd documented this in your own private research, especially their reactions to your reactions to the gifts. They always seemed to be seeking approval for some reason, and you were always sure to give it, but they seemed to be looking for something, more. You just weren't sure yet as to what.
Another thump pulls you out of your thoughts. You grin to yourself, switching your controls to off so that you're now simply drifting along, and hurry outside.
At first you don't see any sign of either of them. But then there's another thump, a little larger. This time you wobble on your feet and scowling as you scan around. Off to your left you see the edge of a yellow fin just barely peeking above the railing's edge. Another knock, and you hear snickering.
You huff, but play along. "Well, I wonder what in the world that knocking could be. I sure hope I haven't run along a reef."
"Do it again, again!" You hear a not-so hushed whisper from the yellow fin's direction.
Again, the boat rocks. You're not impressed.
You sigh, turning as if to head back inside. "I guess I have no choice but to turn back then. What a shame, I was so excited to see the boys too."
You stomp as if to head back to the controls and wait, listening.
"They're, they're leaving!" Panic now.
Another voice, harsher in its whispering. "It's a trick! They would never."
You hear an argument begin to form and you make your way to the railing, peeking over with a smug smirk.
"You know, if you're going to pull a prank, maybe speaking in a language I can understand isn't your best idea. And also hiding a bit better would help too."
Both the mers in the water whip to look at you.
"Told you." The blue and white one grumbles, though he appears undeniably relieved.
The sunny one ignores him, instead jumping up to grab the railing to meet you eye to eye. It forces you to step back to avoid getting headbutt by his much larger face. Water splashes all around him, and the resulting swells rock your boat, Sun oblivious as ever to his own strength and size.
"Sunbeam! You're finally back!" He chirps, causing you to laugh. He sets his elbows on the railing, looking at you expectantly.
You shake your head and reach out to give him scratches and such. You swear you think you hear him begin to purr as you stand on your tiptoes to kiss his forehead. "And you're already begging for attention, color me surprised."
Moon makes room for himself beside the other mer. "To be fair, it's been several days."
"Don't act like you didn't follow me as far as you could." You scoff, switching to give the lunar mer pets now, much to Sun's displeasure. "Did you think I wouldn't notice?"
Moon tsks, but revels in the attention just as much. "You certainly acted like it."
"Oh, did someone have to find food for himself for once?" You coo, planting a kiss to his cheek as he grumbles.
Sun whines, either from lack of attention or being called out, hard to say. "It was terrible, Sunshine! Just the worst."
"Well you're both still alive and well, so I think you fended for yourselves just fine."
Their shared grins all but confirm such, and you sigh as you step back again. "You're lucky I like you both so well, otherwise I wouldn't be sharing the candy I got while I was gone."
They watch as you enter the nearest door, snatching up your Valentine's gifts and coming back out to the deck to sit and open them.
"Candy? Nothing like that sharp stuff from last time, right?" Sun scrunches his features.
You chuckle. "No, no pop rocks this time,"—You hold up a heart shaped-box—"Chocolate! I think it's fish-safe." You examine the ingredients list, muttering more to yourself. "At least I think so."
You open the package and pop a chocolate into your mouth, savoring it. "Man, I love Valentine's day. Here, go long." You pick out a piece and raise your arm. Sun checks the memo, and mouth wide, you toss the chocolate his way. His jaw opens and snaps shut in an instant, and as he chews the—relatively small piece in comparison to himself—his eyes widen.
"Good right?" You ask, doing the same for Moon.
Sun nods rapidly, with Moon humming in agreement.
You continue to indulge and share, opening your letters and valentine's cards.
"Why are all your letters red and pink?" Moon asks, features quizzical.
You snap your fingers. "Shoot! I didn't explain what Valentine's is, did I?"
Both mers shake their heads.
You briefly give a rundown on the holiday, the traditions, and so on. They listen intently as you explain, soaking up all the information they could, as usual.
"So when someone gives things like chocolate, cards, and so on, that means they're saying they love the recipient, right?" Sun questions slowly, uncertain.
You nod, tossing another candy his way and eating a piece of your own. "Pretty much!"
At this both mers turn to each other, voices hushed as they speak in that tongue you've not even begun to try and decipher. They seem rather excited about whatever it is they're talking about though.
You're about to inquire as to what they're discussing when Sun suddenly disappears under the water, leaving you with just Moon.
"Oh, leaving already?" You're surprised, you'd have thought they'd hang around longer since you'd been gone.
Moon chuckles, there's an atypical lightness to it. "Not quite. How would you feel about a swim, Sweetfin?"
"As long as it's not too cold." You say, standing up with a stretch. "Give me a few to put this all away and change."
"Take your time." He drawls.
You head inside, put everything away, and get into your wetsuit. When you walk back out on deck, you're flabbergasted at the sight before you.
In a—rather large—pile are an assortment of 'treasures' as the mers had insisted upon calling them. Dozens of shells, sea glass, and more was piled up on your deck
Before you can say anything there's a splash and Sun emerges from the water with even more to add to the pile, beaming upon noticing you.
You're bewildered. "What's all this?"
"You got us something, it was only fair that we return the favor! Though, we've been trying for some time now, but it's good to know that's how it works with humans! Not that it matters now, but still."
Your brows furrow. "...How what works with humans?"
"Courting of course! If we knew it was a mutual exchange of gifts we would have been more patient." Sun chuckles
It takes a moment, then it all clicks into place for you. That's what all the gifts had meant. They'd been, trying to—your face starts to burn. Partly from embarrassment, partly from your own foolishness for not realizing sooner. You're also, incredibly flattered. You'd had a bit of crush, but had brushed it off because it seemed improbable that they'd feel the same.
You shake your head, nodding as you start putting on your diving gear. "Right. Makes sense. My um, apologies for not responding sooner." You notice then that Moon's missing. "What happened to Moon?"
"He's waiting down below, we have something we want to show you."
You glance up, eyes narrow. "What's 'something'?"
Sun's smirk reveals nothing. Hand tracing the water as you hop up onto the railing. "Something you'll really like, that's all."
"Well now I'm a bit suspicious, but I guess I'll go along with it." You adjust your goggles and your mask.
Once you're situated, Sun offers his hand to gently lower you in the water, coming face to face with a snicker. "Good. You weren't going to have much a choice, Starshine."
You shoot him a glare, but allow him to lead you down into the depths. You swim across large reefs brimming with fish, around vents and past seagrass forests. It stops being familiar territory after a bit, the terrain becoming rockier, and semi barren. At a certain point, Sun looks back to you and points to your tank, then down.
You give a thumbs up, and he nods.
You end up at the entrance to a massive cave, and after a moment Moon appears from the cave mouth. He and Sun chitter back and forth to each other, then Moon takes your other hand and they both take you inside. Upon entering, it's initially pretty dark, save for the glow of their eyes and fins. But going deeper a glow starts to appear all around you, and the cave grows wider until it opens up wider.
Looking up, you can see there's an air pocket in space above you. You're not too far below the surface, and the boys seem fine as they break the water, so you do the same. Peeking out above the water, you find a massive open space, filled with various trinkets and the likes. On the ceiling above you, various plants emit a soft glow, similar to the glow in the water around you.
You swim over to the edge of the pool, and with a bit of help, hop up onto it.
With a bit of hesitation, you remove your mask and are—thankfully—pleasantly surprised to take in a bit of breathable air.
"This is, beautiful..." You look all around you. "How'd you find this place?"
Moon snickers, getting partly out of the water to sit next to you. His arm pulls you into his side and you feel your face warm again. "It's our home. You've shared yours with us for so long, it's only right we share ours."
"S-share?"
"Only if you'd like. Whenever you'd like." Sun rests his head in your lap, grin sharp. "Though we're hoping that will be often."
You put a hand up to hide your face. All this because of some Valentine's chocolate. You're not opposed, but you do feel overwhelmed, and guilty for not catching on sooner. Not to mention having given nothing in return beside a few measly pieces of candy.
"Is everything alright, Star?" Moon asks.
You nod. "It's, great, trust me. I just feel awful that you've been working so hard to... impress me, and I've gotten you nothing in return." You put up a hand as they start to take up for you. "No, really. I gave you a couple of tiny bits of chocolate! I'm gonna make it up to you. I promise. Whatever you'd like, consider it done."
"It's not necessary." Moon scoffs.
You shake your head. "It is!"
You bicker back and forth, then Sun clears his throat, grabbing your attention.
"Well, there is something you can do..." He trails off, then looks but looks up to you with puppy eyes.
Immediately you know exactly what he's thinking. "Oh, you're serious aren't you? They're an endangered species!"
"You said borderline! Pretty please? I'll give you the prettiest pearl I can find!" Sun takes your hand, kissing your wrist then snuggling into it. It doesn't slip by you how Moon's hold on your waist tightens just a tinge. Neither does the slight grin that flashes across Sun's features for a moment as he continues his actions.
You shake your head at their antics. Honestly, how you didn't catch on sooner is beyond you.
"This is supposed to be my gift to you, silly. I'm the one in debt here." You sigh, folding near immediately. "Fine. But only a handful, that's it. If you eat them all up, there won't be any left."
Sun cheers, and Moon chuckles. "It's appreciated, Sweetfin."
"Told you they'd give in eventually." Sun snickers and you gasp.
Moon's laughter rumbles against you. "You were right, I shouldn't have doubted their adoration. Or the tenderness of their heart."
You scowl at the two of them, grumbling as they coo and fawn over you to make up for their deceit. In all reality, you don't mind too much, you feel it's justified considering they've been trying so long to make their feelings clear to you.
And now, you'd make yours clear to them.

could you share how you paint hair and skin? your art is so nice to look at
thank you so much!
maybe one day I'll make a more detailed post with screenshots as I render... but honestly my painting process is really pretty simple. I usually use a textured brush or something with hue jitter turned up 1-2% to put down base colours, and then I go in with a medium hard airbrush for shadows and for adding warmer colours where blood flows (nose, ears, cheek, around mouth sometimes, eyes).
after that i merge all my layers and basically draw on top of everything. bunch of refining details and texture and LOTS of cross hatching. hatching is a really good way to transition between colours i find!!
(another tip I use for skin rendering is adding gradients within shadows, anddd ofc I add hatching when I do that too)
I wish I could offer more technical advice but I really don't know what I'm doing in the slightest I just throw colours on there and hope for the best😭 I guess other good things to keep in mind for skin are the planes of the face (im rly bad at this one, but basically just look up planes of the face on pinterest and use that as a guide for shadows and form) as well as hard vs soft shadows!!
im also. Not good at this one. So don't take my word for it but i guess it's good to have a variety of shadows that end harshly vs shadows that are softer and blend in more? if that makes sense? you just need to think about 1. what is casting my shadow 2. what is it being cast on (or idk maybe its not. that's just kinda what I do) and render from there!
I like to outline my harsher shadows but thats rly just cause I love to outline everything. OOH THATS ANOTHER THING. use harmonious colours and outline shit it looks soooo good.
i do that shit all the time.Like don't be shy about grabbing colours that don't make sense being in your drawing. it's a drawing who gaf if vi arcane's hair is outlined in turquoise. NOBODY! and it looks fire!
for hair I just bullshit it and add hatching I really don't have a clue how to draw hair. I guess figure out where the hair strands are coming from and then draw them coming out from there (This is some real expert advice here damn) and then add shadows underneath the hair tuft clump things ?? no clue. someone make a tutorial for me im kinda the one that needs it in this situation.
uh I hope that helped at all!! Please watch YouTube videos and stuff by actual professionals take everything I say with a grain of salt because seriously I don't know how to do any of this I probably should study art more but I am LAZY

"OH LOVER BOY!" || 27 Days of Love: A Valentine's Challenge + Series
day one: a secret admirer
ᰔ pairing: pre-outbreak joel miller x reader
ᰔ summary: you are new to the neighborhood, and you've become friends with your neighbors— a spunky little girl and her reserved father. before long, you notice mr. miller has taken to you more than you realize. when a letter with no address ends up in your mail box, you get down to the bottom of it.
ᰔ author's note: sooo excited to do this!!! i've never done a writing challenge like this, and i've been looking for something to spark my creativity again. it's a bit short, and i'm still rusty. it's been a long time since i've written on here, so please let me know how i can improve! enjoy! ♡
ᰔ content warning: pre-outbreak. young sarah miller. young single father joel miller. fluff. slightly domestic.
"Dad! Do we have envelopes?"
"Why do you need an envelope? You mailin' a check?" Joel looks up from the morning paper. He isn't sure if he's heard Sarah right, yet she stands in front of him with a folded piece of paper and a sweet smile.
"I'm dropping off a letter. Please, Dad, I just need one," Sarah rolls her eyes. Ever since she's turned twelve, the eye rolling has become a constant. It drives Joel up a wall, but he'd be blue in the face before she stops. It has to run its course, whether he likes it or not.
"They're in the desk drawer," Joel sighs. He picks up the newspaper again after he takes a sip of his coffee. Whatever she's up to, he's sure he'll find out soon enough.
Sarah mutters a thanks as she leaves the room. She waits until he's reading again before she shoves the letter into the envelope. With a quick glance back, she knows it's now or never.
"I'm going to the mailbox! Be right back!"
Before Joel could ask any other questions, Sarah is already out the door and headed towards your mailbox. Your car is parked in the driveway, but there's no sign of you outside. Perfect.
A few quick strides later, and Sarah is shoving the envelope in your mailbox. She pulls the little red tab up before she scampers away. As she walks, she prays you see it sooner rather than later.
Luck is in her favor, considering you're walking out to check your mailbox as she closes the front door. You notice the red tab and your heart stutters. It's been a couple of months since you moved into the neighborhood, and homesickness has gotten to you. You've been checking the mail in hopes of any news from home, or something to tie you back. Anything to ease the ache that's settled in your bones.
You open the mailbox, immediately confused by the top letter. It has no information on the front which makes you a bit nervous. If it's ended up in here, it must be from someone who knows you- a very short list.
Instead of bringing it inside, you open it right at the mailbox. The bills and junk mail are shoved back in the box before you open it.
"Hi,
This is Joel, your neighbor on the right. The one with the girl, Sarah. I would like to take you on a date. Call me."
You read it over, a bit skeptical that someone is pulling a prank on either you or Joel. Part of you wonders if it is Joel, but you highly doubt he's writing letters to his neighbor in a glittery purple pen. The few times you've had a conversation with Joel- beyond a quick hello or a wave as you both leave for work- he's been very direct. Never one to beat around the bush, which you admire.
The other part of you knows it's more likely that Sarah's behind this. The idea of her writing this has you smiling. She's a smart one, and you know Joel will have his hands full as she grows up. You've talked to her enough to hear how smart she is. That being said, she'll need to learn how to cover her tracks and try to avoid pretty gel pens when writing like her father.
With the letter in hand, you head next door and knock. From your spot, you can hear some back and forth before the door finally opens. Before you stands the supposed author in question, a bit confused when he sees you.
"Hi, darlin'. You okay? You don't usually come knockin' this early." Joel gives you a kind smile. One that you've thought of more than one.
Admittedly, you do have a small crush on Joel. He always makes it a point to help you with groceries, or even mow your lawn if you're too busy to get around to it. All without you having to ask or mention it. The goodness of his heart, you suppose. His consideration makes your head spin- along with how devilishly handsome he is. You've been known to stare when he's outside without a shirt on, working on some house project he's tasked himself with.
"Good morning, Joel. Sorry to bother you, but I got this letter and I wanted to just verify that you wrote it." You hand him the letter with a slight chuckle. He looks just as confused as you were a few moments ago. As he reads, his face shifts. It's a mix between disbelief and mortification.
"That girl," Joel mutters under his breath. He rubs his forehead as he tries to come up with something to say. Before he can say anything, you pipe up.
"While I'll never be the one to judge your pen choice, I have a feeling someone else in your house may be the culprit."
Joel chuckles, unable to stop himself. It's both from how funny he finds you while also in disbelief at the situation. He nods and folds the paper back up.
"I'm sorry about that. I knew something was up when she asked for an envelope this morning. Kid's gonna be the death of me, one of these days," he sighs. Your good humor eases the tension in his muscles. Everything about you does, but he lets that thought die out as you cross your arms over your chest.
"Well, can you stay alive long enough for us to go on the date? I know it was her idea but I'll admit, I was excited to see you asked me out..." You glance away, a smile on your lips. When you look back at Joel, the tips of his ears are pink and he looks to be at a loss for words.
"I, I've been meanin' to ask you," he admits. "I guess Sarah overheard me talkin' to Tommy. Just didn't think she'd do something about it." Joel finally smiles. It's warm and a bit humorous. Leave it to his daughter to push him in the right direction.
"I'm glad she did. You free tomorrow night?" You ask, taking the letter out of his hands. You want it for safe keeping, in hopes that one day you'll pull it out and remember how you and Joel went on your first date. Just the idea has your heart hammering.
"Yeah, yeah," Joel finally nods after a beat of silence. "I'm off work for the next few days." He knows he should be the one asking you out, but he won't look a gift horse in the mouth.
"You workin' today?" You tilt your head, a curious look in your eyes as you look Joel over. If your attraction to him had been a question before, all the confirmation he needs is standing right in front of him.
"Not today, no." Joel can feel his chest constrict, his mouth suddenly dry. The look on your face shifts into something he's only imagined in the middle of the night, his hand down his pajama pants and mind full of you.
"Well, if you find yourself with some free time today, I'll be next door. Bye, Joel." You shoot him a wink before you saunter away from his front door. Even without looking, you know his eyes are on you. From a distance, you can hear him call for Sarah that he has to run to the neighbor's house for a bit.
Yeah, Joel definitely has some free time today.
