“are you sure you’re okay?” his voice was soft, but there was a slight tremor in it — a clear indication of how worried he was.
the room was steeped in a comforting silence, the only sound being the faint hum of the air conditioner and the rustle of soft sheets as his girlfriend shifted slightly. the glow from the moonlight filtered through the blinds, casting silvery streaks over the rumpled bed. chan, who was nuzzled in the curve of her neck, looked up slightly to see her flushed-and-fucked-out face, breath heavy. his eyes, apologetic and half lidded, his expression a mix of concern and tenderness.
her hair was a mess, cheeks flushed, but her eyes sparkled with affection. she reached out, cupping his jaw in her hand, thumb brushing against his cheekbone. “i told you, i'm as good as ever, chris.”
he frowned, clearly unconvinced, his brows furrowing in that adorable way that always made her heart flip, as he lifted himself slightly to look at her better. “was i too rough? did i hurt you? can you walk? you don't need to lie i can delay my schedule tomorrow-”
"what? no, no!" y/n frowned, and leaned in to press a kiss to the tip of his nose. “chan, baby, i literally told you it was amazing, like, five times already. you didn’t hurt me, at all. i told you i was okay with it and i really am.”
“if anything, i’m kinda hoping for a repeat performance sometime soon.”
that made him flush a deep crimson, his ears turning a shade of pink that she absolutely adored. he groaned, burying his face in his hands, muttering, “oh my god, you’re gonna kill me.”
"really, can't believe that you're all shy now considering how you were practically cho-"
he groaned, falling back down and nuzzling into her neck as his hands covered his crimson ears, while the girl under him only laughed.
she tugs his hands away so she could see his whole face. “i mean it, though. you were incredible.” her fingers traced gentle patterns along his forearm, grounding him. “but,” she added with a small smile, “i do love seeing this side of you, too. all soft and caring and…” she paused, tapping her chin thoughtfully, “a little overdramatic.”
“overdramatic?” he echoed, feigning offense, though the corners of his lips twitched upward. “i’m just making sure you’re okay! is that a crime?”
“not at all,” she said, leaning in to kiss him softly. her lips lingered against his for a moment before she pulled back, resting her forehead against his. “but seriously, chan. i’m okay. i feel… happy. loved. really, really good.”
he let out a shaky breath, his shoulders relaxing a little. “okay,” he murmured. “if you’re sure.”
“i’m sure.” she smiled, tucking herself closer to him, her head resting against his chest. his heartbeat was steady beneath her ear, a soothing rhythm that made her feel completely at ease.
chan wrapped his arms around her, pulling her even closer. his fingers trailed up and down her back in slow, gentle strokes, the gesture both comforting and intimate. “you’re amazing, you know that?” he said softly, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “i don’t deserve you.”
y/n tilted her head to look up at him, her expression softening. “don’t say that,” she murmured, reaching up to brush her fingers through his curls. “you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, chris. i’d choose you a thousand times over.”
his throat bobbed as he swallowed hard, emotion flickering in his dark eyes. “you’re too good to me.”
“i think it’s the other way around,” she teased, poking his chest lightly. “you’re literally the sweetest, most thoughtful person ever. and, not to mention, ridiculously handsome.”
he chuckled, his cheeks tinting pink again. “you’re biased.”
“maybe a little,” she admitted with a grin. “but that doesn’t make it any less true.”
they lay there for a while, wrapped up in each other. chan’s hands never stopped moving—one smoothing over her hair, the other tracing invisible shapes along her spine. y/n felt herself relaxing further, her body melting into his warmth.
“do you want some water?” he asked suddenly, his voice cutting through the comfortable silence. “or hot cocoa to make up? i can get you something if you’re hungry.”
she laughed softly, shaking her head. “i’m good, just tired. just wanna stay here with you.”
his lips curved into a small smile as he pressed another kiss to her forehead. “okay. but if you need anything, you tell me, yeah?”
“i will,” she promised, nuzzling closer. “you’re such a worrier.”
“can you blame me?” he said, his tone light but sincere. “i just… i care about you. so much.”
her heart swelled at his words, and she tilted her head to capture his lips in a soft, lingering kiss. when she pulled back, she rested her hand against his cheek, her thumb brushing over his skin. “i care about you, too. more than you know.”
they stayed like that, tangled up in each other, sharing soft whispers and quiet laughter. chan’s initial worry had melted away, replaced by a deep sense of contentment. he held her like she was the most precious thing in the world, and to him, she was.

the dim lighting of the bedroom cast soft shadows over the minimalistic walls, the faint glow of moonlight spilling in through the window. it was quiet now, save for the occasional rustle of sheets and the low hum of the heater working to keep the chill of winter at bay.
seungmin knelt on the bed beside his girlfriend, his hands working meticulously at her shoulders, thumbs digging gently into the knots he was sure he'd caused. his brows were knit in concentration, his usually sharp eyes softened with guilt. he rarely ever got like this—serious, cautious, and so full of concern it made y/n want to burst out laughing again, but she bit her lip to hold it in. for now.
"you’re laughing in your head, aren’t you?" seungmin asked flatly, his voice low but laced with exasperation.
"no," she lied, her lips twitching as she bit back a giggle.
seungmin paused, fixing her with his trademark deadpan glare. "do you think i’m joking? i feel terrible, y/n. terrible." he exaggerated.
she turned her head slightly to glance at him, cheek smushed against the pillow. his fingers froze on her shoulder blades, a slight pout tugging at the corner of his lips. god, he was adorable. for someone who prided himself on being savage and composed, seungmin looked like a kicked puppy right now.
"min, you’re literally being ridiculous," she said, her voice brimming with amusement. "i told you i’m fine. i liked it."
his expression didn’t change. "i was too rough. you winced like…twice. that’s two times too many."
y/n rolled her eyes dramatically, flipping onto her back despite his protests of "stay still, i’m trying to help." she reached out to cup his cheek, her fingers warm against his skin. "first of all, i winced because i was overwhelmed, in a good way. secondly, you apologizing twenty-seven times is going to make me start keeping a tally."
seungmin blinked at her, his lips twitching into the faintest semblance of a smile before it disappeared again. "it’s not funny."
"it’s very funny," she teased, sticking out her tongue. "you’re being such a baby about this, it’s cute."
"..not cute," he retorted, his ears burning red as he avoided her gaze. his hands returned to her shoulders, his touch feather-light now, as if he feared breaking her. "you’re impossible."
"and you’re overthinking. i’m fine. actually, i’m better than fine—i had a great time. you’re just melodramatic," she quipped, letting her voice drop into mock-seriousness.
"melodramatic?" he echoed, scandalized, his hands pausing mid-massage. he tilted his head, narrowing his eyes at her. "that’s rich coming from you, miss ‘do you think my soul left my body just now?’."
y/n erupted into laughter, clutching her stomach as she replayed her own words from earlier in her head. "okay, fair, but in my defense, it did feel like that."
"right. that’s why i’m apologizing," seungmin muttered, shaking his head but unable to hide the upward curl of his lips this time.
she reached up to grab his hands, pulling him down to lay beside her. he came willingly but let out a small grunt of protest. "i’m not done—"
"you’re done," she interrupted, poking his cheek. "come here and stop worrying. it’s getting embarrassing."
"embarrassing," he repeated, tone dripping with mock disbelief. he turned onto his side to face her, propping his head up with his hand. "that’s it. i’m officially offended."
"oh no," she said dramatically, clasping her hands to her chest. "what will i do if the kim seungmin is offended? whatever shall i—"
he reached out to clamp a hand over her mouth, shaking his head. "y/n. stop. talking."
her muffled giggle turned into a full-blown laugh as she shoved his hand away, and he groaned, flopping back onto the bed. she turned to face him, their noses almost touching now. his sharp features softened in the dim light, his usually playful smirk replaced with something tender.
"seriously, though," he murmured, his voice quieter now. "i don’t want to hurt you. ever."
y/n felt her chest tighten at the sincerity in his tone. she reached up to trace the line of his jaw with her fingertips, her touch light but grounding. "i know," she whispered. "and you didn’t. i trust you, seung."
his eyes searched hers for a moment, as if looking for any sign of doubt, but all he found was the warmth and reassurance that she always gave him. he sighed, finally letting the tension seep out of his shoulders as he relaxed beside her.
"you’re so annoying," he muttered, but his lips quirked up at the corners.
"and you’re dramatic," she shot back, poking his chest.
for a moment, the room was filled with a comfortable silence. seungmin reached out, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her closer. he wasn’t usually one for skinship—he’d much rather tease her from across the room than cuddle—but moments like these, when the world was quiet and it was just the two of them, he let himself indulge.
"can we just agree that i was a little rough and move on?" he asked after a beat, his voice muffled as he buried his face in her hair.
y/n hummed thoughtfully. "mmm, no. i’m gonna milk this for at least another week."
"of course you are," he deadpanned, his fingers absentmindedly tracing patterns on her back. "you’re lucky i love you."
"aw, you love me?" she teased, leaning back to look at him with a mischievous grin.
he rolled his eyes but didn’t deny it, his cheeks tinged pink. "don’t push it."
"too late." she leaned up to kiss his nose, her heart swelling at the way he scrunched it in response. "i love you too, you big softie."
seungmin groaned dramatically, but the small smile tugging at his lips betrayed him. "this is why i don’t do skinship. you get all weird and sappy."
"you don’t do skinship because you’re awkward," she shot back, grinning.
"not true," he argued, pulling her closer and holding her firmly against his chest. "i’m holding you right now, aren’t i?"
"true," she agreed, nuzzling into him. "maybe you’re not as awkward as i thought."
he let out a soft chuckle, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "don’t get used to it."
"too late," she whispered, her voice full of warmth.
and as seungmin held her close, the lingering worries from earlier finally faded away. because with her in his arms, laughing and teasing like always, he knew they were okay. better than okay. they were home.

the apartment was dimly lit, bathed in the soft glow of string lights you’d insisted on hanging months ago. the scent of your vanilla candle lingered in the air, mingling with the warmth of home.
his home.
jisung trudged through the door, dropping his bag with a thud and kicking off his sneakers without care for where they landed. his hoodie hung loosely off his frame, his face buried in its collar to stave off the cold he'd carried in with him.
“baby?” his voice was tired, scratchy.
you popped your head out of the kitchen, spatula in hand. “you’re home! i made—”
he didn’t let you finish, crossing the distance between you in three long strides to wrap his arms tightly around your waist.
the flour-coated spatula clattered to the counter as you instinctively looped your arms around his neck.
“rough day?” you murmured, your chin resting atop his shoulder.
“you have no idea,” he groaned, voice muffled against your hoodie. “just let me stand here. let me hold you. please.”
“the cookies aren't gonna bake themselves,” you teased lightly, brushing a hand through his messy, slightly damp hair. “but i’m all yours.”
his grip tightened, and you felt the deep sigh he released against your neck. “sorry.. i just, missed you so badly today. you have no idea how much.”
you pulled back slightly to cup his face, your thumbs brushing the dark crescents under his eyes. “talk to me?”
he shook his head, lips pouting slightly. “later. i just wanna be with you right now. can we cuddle?”
“you didn’t even eat—”
“don’t care.” he tilted his head, his lips brushing the curve of your thumb before pressing a soft kiss there. “babe. please.”
you melted. because of course you did. you always did when it came to him.
“fine,” you relented, threading your fingers through his as you led him to the couch.
he didn’t let go of your hand, not even as you tried to sit. instead, he pulled you down on top of him, sprawling across the cushions with you practically cocooned in his arms.
“jisung,” you laughed, “i’m going to crush you.”
“crush away,” he mumbled, burying his face in the crook of your neck. “this is exactly what i needed.”
“you’re like a koala,” you teased, although your heart fluttered at how tightly he was holding you, like you might disappear if he let go.
“and this koala hasn't seen you all day. he's in withdrawal.”
you rolled your eyes but didn’t move, instead running your fingers gently through his hair. he sighed contentedly, his body relaxing against yours.
for a moment, there was nothing but the steady rhythm of his breathing and the quiet hum of the city outside. however-
“do you know how channie hyung made me rewrite my rap three times?” jisung grumbled, his nose still pressed into your neck.
“did he now?”
“three times, yeah! and then minho hyung told me it sounded fine the first time.”
“of course, you're minho's baby,” you huffed sarcastically, unable to hold back a smile.
“god forbid a man is loveable-”
you giggled, brushing your lips against the top of his head. “okay, but you're my boyfriend first.”
“i am,” he replied, tilting his head up to look at you with a pout. “and you know what i really need right now?”
“what?”
“a kiss.”
you raised a brow. “just one?”
he grinned, boyish and soft, his eyes sparkling despite his earlier exhaustion. “okay, maybe, like, twenty. or a hundred. start anywhere you want. i’m not picky.”
you giggled, leaning down to press a lingering kiss to his lips. he hummed happily, his hands finding your waist and squeezing gently.
“more,” he mumbled against your lips, pulling you closer.
“someone’s greedy,” you teased, but you kissed him again. and again. soft, slow, like the world outside had paused just for you two.
“i missed this,” he whispered between kisses, his voice barely audible. “missed you. you’re my favorite place, love. my home.”
your chest ached, and you held his face in your hands, kissing his forehead, his nose, the mole under his eye that you adored. “you’re mine too, you know.”
he smiled, bright and blinding, his fingers drawing little patterns on your back. “good. because i’m not going anywhere. ever. you’re stuck with me.”
“oh no,” you deadpanned, though the smile tugging at your lips betrayed you. “whatever will i do?”
“give me more kisses, for starters,” he quipped, leaning up to steal another from you.
hours passed like that, tangled up together in warmth and love, the troubles of the day forgotten in the safety of each other. and as he drifted off, his head tucked against your chest and your fingers playing with his hair, you pressed one last kiss to his temple, whispering the words you knew he loved to hear.
“i love you, sung. always.”
his lips curved into a sleepy smile. “love you too, baby. forever.”

it was a normal morning. seungmin had woken up to the sound of jisung dramatically singing in the shower, half-dressed and flinging water everywhere like they were in some kind of k-drama opening sequence. he had stepped over piles of jisung’s clothes, debated throwing one of his textbooks at him, and had finally settled at his desk, groaning at the mess around him. it was too early for this.
and yet— knock. knock. knock. the loud, rhythmic knocking echoed through their shared dorm. jisung, now out of the shower, poked his head out from the bathroom, toothbrush still in his mouth. "you expectin' someone?" seungmin stared at him. and then his eyes widened. oh no. he was expecting someone. before he could even get up, the knocking intensified—faster, louder, insistent. jisung pulled his toothbrush out of his mouth and smirked. “that’s a very excited knock.” seungmin scowled. “shut up.” the knocking was immediately followed by a singsong voice. “seungminnnn~ open up!” jisung practically lit up. “oh my god.” he gasped. “is that—” seungmin groaned, pushing past him and heading for the door. and when he opened it— y/n stood there, practically glowing in the morning light, wearing sneakers that looked like they had been through war.
in her hands?
two matcha lattes in takeout cups.
a small bag of pastries.
and another little package tied up neatly with string.
she grinned up at him. “good morning, seungminnie.”
he deadpanned. “never call me that again.”
she giggled and stepped inside, unfazed by his immediate rejection.
seungmin closed the door behind her. “you’re early.”
she hummed. “i like being early.”
“of course you do. isn't that why you were always early to our study sessions at the café?”
jisung, still standing by the bathroom, towel draped over his shoulders, wiggled his eyebrows.
“so this is what you two were doing instead of the café.”
y/n turned to him, brightening. “jisung! good morning.”
seungmin crossed his arms. “don’t entertain him.”
too late.
jisung grinned. “are those for me?”
y/n gasped, clutching the drinks to her chest. “no.”
jisung pouted. “not even the pastries?”
“i brought these for seungmin and me,” y/n stated proudly. “and these—” she wiggled the little package tied with string, “—are homemade treats for star.”
seungmin blinked.
she baked for his dog.
for his dog.
well, star was hers first but you get the point.
“wow,” jisung muttered, shaking his head in amazement. “so this is what love looks like.”
seungmin threw a pillow at him.
“get out.”
jisung dodged with ease, snickering as he padded toward his room. “i’ll leave you two alone. have fun being married.”
seungmin turned to y/n, about to say something—
only to find her already halfway to the couch, scanning the room excitedly.
“where’s star?” she asked, looking around like an impatient kid.
seungmin sighed. “he’s in my room.”
y/n immediately made a beeline for his door.
“y/n, don’t just barge in—”
too late.
she had already swung the door open, stepping inside like she owned the place.
and then— her heart melted. because there, curled up in a nest of blankets on seungmin’s bed, was star.
his golden fur was slightly tousled from sleep, his body curled into himself, peaceful, warm. and when he lifted his head, his dark brown eyes blinking sleepily— y/n felt her entire soul leave her body.
“hi, baby,” she whispered, stepping closer.
star’s ears perked. his nose twitched. he recognized her.
in an instant, his tail thumped against the mattress, his body wiggling with excitement.
y/n squealed. “you remember me!”
seungmin leaned against the doorway, watching as star launched himself off the bed and into her arms. y/n caught him, stumbling slightly as she hugged him tight, her face buried in his fur.
she giggled, pressing soft kisses to his head. “i missed you.”
seungmin rolled his eyes. “it’s been one day.”
y/n ignored him completely, pulling out the treats she had baked.
“look what i made for you, star,” she cooed, untying the package. “i made them with lots of love.”
seungmin snorted. “he’s a dog, not a boyfriend.”
y/n gasped, scandalized. “seungmin, take that back.”
“no.”
she glared. “you’re lucky i brought you a latte.”
“yeah, yeah.” he waved her off. “come on, let’s start the project.”
she pouted but followed him to the table, star happily munching on his treat at her feet.
seungmin slid into the chair across from her, sipping the matcha latte she brought.
(he wasn’t going to admit it, but it tasted really good.)
y/n, on the other hand, was already distracted.
“you know, seungmin,” she mused, sipping her drink. “i think you should get star a cute sweater.”
he raised an eyebrow. “a sweater?”
“yes.” she nodded firmly. “something classy. maybe a turtleneck.”
jisung, from the hallway, “a dog in a turtleneck??”
y/n gasped. “oh my god. yes.”
seungmin groaned. “you’re insane.”
she just grinned. “and you love it.”
seungmin opened his mouth to argue— only to close it again.
because, for some reason, watching her sit there, smiling so brightly, sipping her matcha like she owned the world—
he couldn’t bring himself to disagree. maybe he did love it.
maybe… he was starting to love a lot of things about her. and that thought? was a little terrifying. but still, a little exciting.
so, when thirty minutes into their so-called project work, seungmin had come to a harsh, undeniable conclusion: this was not a study session.
it was a y/n-admires-star-and-gets-distracted-every-five-seconds session. and it was infuriating.
"y/n," seungmin sighed, dragging a hand down his face, "focus."
"i am focused," she argued, still not looking at him.
seungmin followed her gaze—
she was star-ing at star. again. [see what i did there?]
the golden retriever was curled up beside her chair, sleeping peacefully, his chest rising and falling in a slow, steady rhythm. and y/n? she had completely zoned out mid-sentence, her cheek resting against her hand, eyes soft as she watched star’s ears twitch in his sleep.
seungmin clicked his tongue. "what exactly are you focused on?"
she blinked, barely registering his words. "him."
jisung, from the kitchen, snorted.
"are you serious right now?" seungmin groaned.
y/n hummed. "mhm."
seungmin leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. "i knew this was a bad idea. we should’ve just gone to the café."
y/n finally tore her gaze away from star to look at him, gasping in fake offense. "excuse me?"
"you heard me," seungmin deadpanned.
she scoffed. "first of all, rude. second, blasphemy. third, i brought you a matcha latte, and this is how you repay me?"
jisung cackled. "she's got a point."
"shut up, squirrel-face."
y/n pouted dramatically, sinking into her chair. "you don’t appreciate anything. i bet star appreciates me more than you do."
seungmin exhaled sharply. "he's a dog."
she gasped. "and? that just means he has purer judgment."
seungmin narrowed his eyes. "so what you’re saying is that my dog likes you more than me?"
y/n grinned. "oh, absolutely."
jisung smirked. "can’t argue with that one."
seungmin threw his pen at him.
"okay," seungmin sighed, rubbing his temples. "since you're so focused on star, tell me—what exactly is so fascinating about him?"
y/n lit up. oh no. this was a mistake.
she leaned forward, clasping her hands together like she had been waiting for him to ask.
"well, first of all," she began, "look at him."
seungmin deadpanned. "i do look at him. every day. because he's my dog."
"dude, it's been three days since you've seen him. and the first was at the adoption cent-"
she ignored the two. "he's literally the cutest thing. did you notice how his ears flop when he breathes?"
jisung muttered, "here we go."
y/n gasped dramatically. "and the little scar on his eyebrow? he looks like a pirate. a handsome pirate."
seungmin tilted his head. "handsome pirate?"
"yes!" y/n cried. "he has this rugged, mysterious look—like a hero with a tragic past."
jisung choked on his water.
seungmin stared at her, baffled. "you think my dog has a tragic past?"
"...he does," y/n huffed. "the whole reason he was in the shelter is because— well, he was abandoned.. and not treated with care. which is why he deserves all the love in the world now."
her voice softened slightly at the last part.
and for a second—just a second—seungmin didn’t have a sarcastic remark ready.
he just watched as she gazed at star again, her fingers lightly brushing against the fur on his back.
soft. gentle. affectionate.
there was something about the way she cared that made something uncomfortable stir in his chest.
he quickly cleared his throat. "so you're saying he’s a main character."
"obviously," y/n nodded. "if this were a movie, he'd be the heartwarming, lovable side character who helps the protagonist through tough times."
"then what does that make you?"
she blinked.
then she grinned. "the best friend. duh."
jisung chimed in from the kitchen, "pretty sure you're the main character here."
[han's mind rn: the fourth wall??? what is it?]
y/n laughed. "oh no, seungmin's the main character. he's all broody and grumpy and—"
seungmin raised an eyebrow. "and what?"
she smirked. "secretly a softie."
jisung howled.
seungmin groaned, shoving his textbook over to her. "read. before i kick you out."
y/n giggled but picked up the book obediently, flipping through the pages. "fine, fine. but just so you know, i'm gonna see star every single day from now on."
seungmin sipped his latte. "did i have a choice?"
"nope."
he exhaled through his nose. "figures."
jisung snickered. "damn. she already owns half of this dorm and it hasn't even been a day."
y/n beamed. "you're right. i should start bringing decorations."
"don't even think about it."
she winked. and somehow—between y/n's constant distractions, jisung's unhelpful commentary, and star snoring at their feet— seungmin found himself not minding it at all.
. . .
seungmin had a headache. not because of uni. not because of work. but because the girl just wouldn't shut the fuck up.
the study session had officially derailed at this point. and to make matters worse, jisung—his supposed best friend—had fully switched sides and was entertaining y/n’s nonsense instead of helping to keep her on track.
“seungmin, do you think star has dreams?” y/n asked suddenly, staring at the sleeping dog beside her with a fond smile.
seungmin blinked, deadpan. “huh?”
“like—what do you think he dreams about?”
jisung smirked from across the couch, munching on one of the pastries y/n had brought. “bet he dreams about running through a field of treats.”
“or maybe about fighting evil!” y/n gasped, dramatically throwing a fist in the air. “like a true hero.”
seungmin dragged a hand down his face. “y/n, i swear—”
“or maybe he dreams about you,” she cut in, turning toward him with a teasing grin. “since you’re his owner and all.”
he hesitated. for a second. and for some reason, that second was too long.
y/n noticed.
her eyes twinkled, mischief curling at the edges of her lips. “oh my god. do you care about that?”
seungmin scowled, turning back to his notes. “i literally do not care.”
“liar.”
jisung snorted. “she got you there.”
seungmin groaned, flipping to another page in his textbook, pretending to focus. “can we please study?”
y/n hummed. “mmm, maybe later.”
his eye twitched. “maybe later?”
she nodded, taking a sip of her matcha latte. “mhm.”
jisung laughed. “yeah, man. priorities.”
seungmin closed his eyes, exhaling through his nose.
he could throw them both out. he could lock the door. he could actually get his work done in peace.
but he didn’t.
instead, he sighed and turned his head slightly—just enough to see y/n sitting on the floor, her legs tucked under her, her fingers running absentmindedly through star’s fur as she murmured something to him.
soft.
she was soft. i'm aware i mentioned it before. but this man is just too smitten and he doesn't wanna admit it.
moving on.
it was annoying how much that was becoming a fact in his life.
his throat felt weird.
he cleared it. “if we’re not going to study, at least do something productive.”
y/n looked up. “like what?”
jisung pointed lazily. “laundry.”
“ew, i'm not washing some boys' laundry. pass.”
“dishes.”
“hard pass.”
seungmin sighed. “what i meant was.. help clean up the disaster you made on the table. not your chores, jisung.”
jisung pouted. “it was worth a try.”
she stood up, stretching her arms over her head before reaching for the empty takeout cups. seungmin didn’t know why—but his eyes lingered on her for a second too long.
the way her sleeves slid slightly down her wrists. the soft hum she let out as she moved. the light clicking of her rings as they tapped against the cups.
it was—
subtle.
but not enough. he looked away, shaking his head as jisung smirked at him from across the room.
don’t. seungmin mouthed.
jisung grinned.
seungmin glared.
jisung winked.
seungmin threw a pen at him. (x2)
by the time evening rolled around, the three of them had managed to not study for a total of six hours.
seungmin didn’t even know how that was possible.
somewhere in between y/n stealing one of his blankets (“it’s cold, seungmo, have a heart”), jisung and y/n dramatically reenacting an entire scene from a movie (“what are we, if not cosmic dust floating in the abyss?”—“jisung, shut up”), and y/n curling up beside star again (“you’re the cutest thing in the world—yes, i mean you, star”),
seungmin had lost control of the day.
and yet.
he let it happen.
because when y/n turned her head slightly and smiled at him—genuinely, softly, with that bright look in her eyes like she was just happy to be here—
seungmin didn’t mind it at all. not one bit. soon, enough, it was right after the sun had set, and y/n, unfortunately, had to leave.
she unlocked the door to her shared dorm, pushing it open with her shoulder. the soft hum of the night filled the space as she stepped in, her body exhausted but her heart… full.
“where have you been?”
rina’s voice rang from the couch, where she was lying upside down, her head hanging off the edge as she scrolled through her phone.
aeri, sitting cross-legged on the floor with a cup of tea, smirked. “let me guess—seungmin?”
y/n shut the door behind her, pausing. “…no?”
a beat of silence. aeri and rina stared at her.
y/n groaned, kicking off her shoes. “okay, yes—but it was for the project!”
aeri snorted. “mhm. project.”
“yeah, totally.” rina rolled onto her side. “is that why you’re smiling like an idiot right now?”
“i am not—”
“you so are.”
y/n scowled, throwing a cushion at them. “shut up.”
they laughed, rina catching the cushion before sitting up properly. “seriously though, how was it?”
y/n sighed, plopping onto the couch beside her. “it was… nice.”
aeri hummed, sipping her tea. “just nice?”
“yeah. we didn’t even get much work done, honestly.”
rina raised a brow. “you didn’t get work done? that’s new.”
y/n shrugged, rubbing at her eyes. “i dunno… star was there, and jisung was being jisung, and it was just…” she trailed off, her gaze softening.
they noticed.
aeri set her mug down, tilting her head. “you really like that dog, huh?”
y/n smiled, running a hand through her hair. “yeah. a lot.”
she didn’t say more. she didn’t have to. because they both knew what she wasn’t saying.
knew how much that golden retriever meant to her.
knew how much she had worried about him for days.
and now—he was safe. with seungmin, of all people.
her stomach flipped at the thought.
“seungmin’s a good guy,” rina murmured after a moment.
y/n blinked, looking at her.
aeri nodded. “yeah. kinda stiff, but still.”
y/n huffed a small laugh. “yeah. he’s good.”
she didn’t realize she was smiling again. she didn’t realize how warm her chest felt.
she only realized when aeri and rina exchanged knowing looks.
“omg—”
“no.”
they gasped.
rina grabbed her arm. “you like him.”
“i do not—”
aeri smirked. “y/n and seungmin, sitting in a tree—”
“i will throw you out.”
they died laughing as y/n groaned, shoving her face into a pillow. her heart thumped in her chest.
god. she hated them.
but maybe, they weren’t entirely wrong.
Tumblr media
the air was crisp. sunlight streamed through the glass windows of the university’s main hall, casting golden streaks across the floor. y/n walked in, her bag slung over her shoulder. the campus was bustling, students huddled in groups, talking, laughing, yawning from their morning exhaustion. she weaved through the crowd, searching—
“y/n!”
she turned at the sound of her name, spotting felix and hyunjin across the hall.
felix waved dramatically. “we were about to call you.”
hyunjin grinned. “where were you last night? we tried calling you.”
y/n sighed. “oh my god, not you too.”
felix perked up. “ooooh, why? who else asked?”
she immediately regretted speaking.
hyunjin gasped. “wait, wait—was it seungmin?”
y/n choked on her coffee.
felix clapped. “that’s a yes!”
“i hate you guys.”
they cackled as they walked toward their lecture hall, hyunjin slinging an arm around her shoulders. “c’mon, spill. what happened?”
y/n groaned. “nothing!”
felix wiggled his brows. “oh? you sure?”
“i will end you, lee felix.”

the university library was quiet—well, as quiet as it could be with them in it. the scent of old books mixed with the sharp aroma of coffee, and the late afternoon sun filtered through the large glass windows, casting soft, golden hues over the long study tables. dust motes floated lazily in the warm light, drifting like tiny fireflies in the still air. the heavy shelves stretched toward the ceiling, lined with worn spines and crinkled pages, whispering secrets of past knowledge. somewhere in the distance, the occasional sound of a page turning or a muffled cough punctuated the silence, but at their table, silence was a foreign concept.
y/n sat between felix and hyunjin, her open notebook filled with neatly written notes, margins lined with underlined key points and little doodles she barely remembered sketching. the steady scratch of her pen against paper was a familiar rhythm, almost meditative, yet constantly interrupted by felix's restless shifting and hyunjin's occasional, dramatic sighs. across from them, aeri was flipping through her economics textbook, brows furrowed, her highlighter hovering in hesitation before finally marking a passage in a precise, straight line. rina, on the other hand, looked far too unbothered for someone who was definitely lagging behind, sipping lazily on her iced americano, the condensation dripping onto her untouched notes. the cup left a wet ring on the paper, but she didn’t seem to care, content to simply exist in this moment of chaotic tranquility.
felix stretched his arms above his head before slumping back into his chair with an exaggerated groan, the wooden legs creaking under his weight. he adjusted his reading glasses, even though they served no real purpose beyond aesthetics. "so let me get this straight," he began, tilting his head as if the angle would somehow change the reality of the situation. "you guys have been studying for the past week and i just found out we have an assignment due tomorrow?"
hyunjin snorted, flipping his pen between his fingers with practiced ease. "lix, it was literally on the syllabus."
"who reads the syllabus?"
aeri sighed, flipping a page, her expression exasperated yet unsurprised. "people who want to pass, maybe?"
felix rolled his eyes before turning to y/n, nudging her arm with the side of his hand like an impatient child. "you’re good at this. help me."
y/n sighed dramatically, her gaze shifting from felix’s pleading expression to the scattered mess that was his notes—half-written sentences, numbers that had no business being in those equations, and a truly concerning number of crossed-out attempts. "i always help you."
"that’s ‘cause i’m your favorite."
rina leaned forward, resting her chin on her palm, a slow smirk tugging at her lips. "that’s funny, because i thought i was her favorite."
"i thought i was," hyunjin added, raising a brow.
aeri scoffed, feigning offense. "she likes me the most. y/n, tell them."
y/n stared at them all, unimpressed, tapping her pen against the edge of her notebook. "none of you are my favorite."
a beat of silence stretched between them.
"yeah 'cause it's probably seungmin now." murmured a devastated hyunjin.
felix gasped, placing a hand over his heart as if physically wounded. "how could you?"
hyunjin wiped a fake tear. "we were best friends, y/n."
aeri shook her head in disappointment. "wow. betrayal."
rina sighed, sipping her coffee with the air of someone deeply wronged. "i trusted you."
y/n groaned, rubbing her temples. "oh my god, shut up and study!"
felix pouted but leaned in closer, resting his chin on his hand. "fine. but only if you explain this." he pointed to his book, where a bunch of equations were scribbled down, some very wrong.
y/n took one glance and winced. "felix… what is that?"
"my attempt at math?"
"it looks like you just guessed."
"…isn’t that how math works?"
aeri smacked his arm with her highlighter. "no."
hyunjin burst into laughter while rina shook her head, stirring her coffee absentmindedly. "you are so hopeless."
felix whined, turning back to y/n. "okay, okay, explain it to me."
y/n sighed, but there was fondness in her voice. "alright, listen carefully…" she leaned in, grabbing a pen, and started breaking down the equations step by step, her handwriting smooth and deliberate, looping over the lined paper in a way that made even numbers look elegant. felix watched with exaggerated concentration, nodding along as if he actually understood, though his occasional side glances at hyunjin betrayed his confusion. hyunjin watched for a few seconds before stretching his arms out with a groan. "i give up. my brain hurts."
"same," rina mumbled, propping her cheek against her palm.
aeri rolled her eyes. "you guys have the attention span of goldfish."
"i have the attention span of a very smart goldfish, thank you," hyunjin corrected, tossing his pen onto his notebook with a soft clatter.
felix nodded. "same. i’m a gifted goldfish."
"omg, lixie, what if we become cute goldfish together!"
y/n groaned, pressing her forehead against the table for a dramatic moment. "yeah, actually, why don't you? the pool's in the next building!"
Tumblr media
y/n had a talent for many things. writing poetry? check. memorizing entire songs after listening to them twice? absolutely. winning over strangers with her sunshine personality? without a doubt.
but being on time? yeah, no.
her eyes widened as she looked at the time on her phone. the numbers blinked back at her, unforgiving and merciless. oh shit indeed.
the library around her suddenly felt suffocating, the quiet hum of study murmurs and the distant shuffle of pages all blending into white noise. the golden afternoon light spilling through the windows no longer felt warm and dreamy; it was a glaring reminder of the twenty minutes that had already passed.
“oh shit.”
felix and hyunjin, who were still lounging at their study table, looked up in unison, their gazes slow and unconcerned. the contrast between their leisure and her rising panic was almost comical.
hyunjin blinked. "language."
“oh my god, i’m late!” y/n scrambled to shove her books into her tote bag, her movements frantic and chaotic. papers crumpled under the force of her hands, and in her rush, her elbow nearly knocked over the remnants of her coffee. the cup wobbled dangerously before felix, ever the observer, reached out and steadied it with a lazy hand.
“i was supposed to meet seungmin twenty minutes ago!” her voice wavered somewhere between hysteria and despair.
felix, unfazed, took a slow sip of his drink. “oh, he’s gonna murder you.”
“i know!”
hyunjin grinned, resting his chin in his palm. “do you want us to attend your funeral, or would you prefer we just remember you as you were?”
“not helping!” she hissed, yanking the strap of her bag over her shoulder with more force than necessary.
aeri, who had been listening from the next table, raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "you guys are studying again?"
y/n waved a frantic hand. "yes, but listen—i planned something. a genius plan. a brilliant plan."
felix leaned forward, intrigued, though his smirk suggested he was already expecting something ridiculous. “do tell.”
“we’re not studying in his dorm.”
hyunjin’s eyes narrowed suspiciously. “then where?”
y/n’s fingers flew over her phone as she sent a frantic ‘sorry! on my way!! don’t kill me!!!’ text before looking back at them, practically vibrating with excitement.
“i thought… instead of just sitting indoors, we could take star out.” she grinned, eyes gleaming with mischief. “maybe a walk? or even better—a garden! a little picnic study session! nature, fresh air, vibes.”
felix stared at her for a long moment, then burst into laughter. "you’re just using the project as an excuse to hang out with star, aren’t you?"
“…no.”
aeri smirked, arms crossed. "uh-huh. sure. and does seungmin know?"
y/n cleared her throat, her gaze darting to the side. "…he’ll find out when we get there."
hyunjin grinned, eyes glinting with amusement. “so basically, you’re kidnapping him.”
“i prefer the term forcefully encouraging outdoor bonding time,” y/n corrected, lifting her chin in faux sophistication.
felix leaned back in his chair, his laughter still lingering in the air. “or it's more of a date.”
“okay, okay, i have to go.” y/n swung her bag over her shoulder with all the grace of someone teetering on the edge of disaster. “if i don’t text in the next hour, assume seungmin has buried me alive.”
“will do,” hyunjin said cheerfully. “good luck, kidnapper.”
y/n rolled her eyes but didn’t stop to argue. instead, she bolted out of the library, weaving between study tables and stacks of books, her hurried footsteps echoing against the quiet hush of the space. the moment she pushed through the heavy doors and into the cool evening air, her heart pounded against her ribs.
seungmin was so going to kill her. but at least he’d have to do it after their impromptu picnic.
“notice how she didn't deny about it being a date?”
Tumblr media
y/n practically sprinted to her dorm, dodging students and weaving through the hallways like she was in an action movie. her hair whipped around her face, strands catching in the soft glow of overhead lights, and her breath came in short, determined bursts. her mind raced faster than her feet, already imagining seungmin’s unimpressed stare, his sharp eyes narrowed in something between disappointment and reluctant amusement.
she nearly crashed into rina, who had just stepped out.
“woah—where’s the fire?” she laughed, stepping aside.
“in seungmin’s eyes if i don’t get there soon!” y/n yelled, yanking open the door and rushing inside.
“told you he’d kill you one of these days.”
“yeah, yeah,” y/n huffed, throwing her tote bag onto the floor. she hurriedly grabbed her water bottle, some notebooks, and very important essentials—star’s treats, a small blanket, and, of course, snacks. rina peered into the bag, her expression knowing. "you realize you’re doing more for this dog than you did for our last project, right?"
"first of all, rude," y/n shot back, stuffing one last thing into her tote. "second of all—no time to argue, i gotta go!"
she waved lazily. "don’t get yourself murdered."
y/n barely heard her as she bolted out of the dorm, her feet pounding against the pavement, heart racing. the wind bit at her skin, but she barely noticed. she had a mission.
so, by the time y/n reached seungmin and jisung’s dorm, she was breathless, her chest rising and falling rapidly, but victorious. she knocked rapidly, shifting her tote bag from one shoulder to the other. the door swung open, revealing jisung with terribly disheveled hair, not that she judged.
“ah,” he said, arms crossed, his features alight with mischief. “so you do have a death wish.”
y/n pouted. “i apologized!”
“thirty-eight minutes late,” he pointed out, raising an eyebrow. “a bold move, considering the man inside is the seungmin.”
y/n huffed, lifting the three matcha lattes in her hand. “bribery, if you will.”
jisung’s eyes twinkled with amusement as he stepped aside. “well, in that case, welcome.”
she stepped in, spotting seungmin at his desk. he barely looked up.
“you’re late.”
“i know,” y/n whined, setting the drinks down. “i had a valid reason.”
seungmin glanced at the drinks, his lips twitching. “bribery won’t work.”
“but this bribery includes your favorite matcha latte. i brought one for you too, ji!” she grinned.
jisung nodded. “compelling argument.”
seungmin sighed but grabbed the drink. “fine. you’re forgiven. for now.”
the second y/n stepped into the hallway, her eyes immediately searched for the golden fluffball.
“star!” she gasped, dramatically dropping to her knees as if she’d been away for years.
star, in all his fluffy, golden, star-like glory, perked up at the sound of her voice, tail wagging furiously.
“oh my baby—” y/n cooed, completely ignoring seungmin as she placed her tote bag down and reached for star. he excitedly trotted toward her, his tail thumping against the floor as she cupped his face and showered him with scratches.
“i missed you so much,” she whispered against his fur, her voice soft as she ran her hands over his head and back. she checked his food bowl, peeked at his bed, and gave him a homemade treat like the concerned parent she definitely wasn’t but absolutely felt like.
seungmin, watching the whole ordeal with an unimpressed expression, sighed. “are you actually here to study or just to visit him?”
“both,” y/n shot back, still petting star. “but mostly him.”
“figures,” seungmin muttered.
“good. now, time for the next part.”
seungmin narrowed his eyes. “what next part?”
y/n blinked innocently. “oh. did i forget to mention?”
seungmin stared. “excuse me?”
jisung, watching from the couch, was thriving on the dynamic. “okay, so are you guys going now or…?”
y/n stood up suddenly and grabbed seungmin’s wrist. “yep! let’s go.”
seungmin blinked. “go where—”
“no questions.”
“so you're kidnapping me now?”
“i prefer the term ‘forcefully encouraging outdoor bonding time,’” y/n corrected.
seungmin’s deadpan stare could have melted steel.
“no.”
“yes.”
jisung, delighted, grabbed a snack. “i voted yes ages ago.”
y/n huffed. “well, too bad, seung. you’re coming whether you like it or not.” she grabbed his wrist and pulled.
seungmin groaned. “i hate this already.”
“no, you don’t.”
“…no, i don’t.”
jisung waved. “have fun, lovebirds.”
“say that to my face when i come back to you and minho making out on the couch.”
“um, is privacy just a concept now???” jisung's eyes widened and he almost fell off the couch from the remark. “leave us alone!”
and just like that, she was dragging him forward, with star happily trotting beside them.
seungmin let himself be pulled (because, really, what other choice did he have?) as jisung waved them off. as they stepped outside, y/n grinned triumphantly. she was taking seungmin and star on a picnic.
call it a date, if you want to.
this was a win, either way.
Tumblr media
the streets were alive with the hum of the noon—the soft chatter of pedestrians, the occasional honk of a distant car, the faint rustle of leaves as the wind carried whispers through the trees. the golden hour painted the world in warmth.
seungmin shoved his hands in his pockets as y/n led the way, walking slightly ahead with star. the breeze tugged at the loose strands of her hair, lifting them gently as if the wind itself were playing along. she was practically bouncing on her feet, occasionally turning back to look at seungmin with the biggest, most childlike grin ever.
he hated how cute it was. star trotted beside her, his tail wagging as he happily sniffed the air. the scent of freshly baked bread from a nearby café mixed with the subtle fragrance of damp earth, the aftermath of a brief afternoon drizzle. y/n giggled, reaching down to scratch star’s head.
“you’re such a good boy, you know that?” she cooed, her voice soft. “you deserve all the happiness in the world, my baby.”
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “i hope you know you’ve just activated his ‘spoiled prince’ mode.”
y/n shot him a look. “excuse me? star deserves to be treated like royalty.”
“he’s literally been in my dorm for one day, and he already walks around like he owns the place.”
“that’s right, baby, you’re the king. own it.”
seungmin muttered something under his breath, but he couldn’t hide the amused look in his eyes.
they turned a corner, walking past a row of small cafés. the air carried hints of roasted coffee beans and sweet pastries, the kind of scents that made everything feel a little warmer, a little cozier. y/n pointed at one of them.
“oh! that’s where felix and i go for late-night coffee runs.”
“late-night coffee runs? you mean ‘let’s see how much caffeine we can consume before death’ runs?”
“how dare you? we are simply connoisseurs of the fine art that is coffee appreciation.”
“you’re addicts.”
“you sound like aeri.”
“well, maybe aeri is right.”
“betrayal. i trusted you.”
“you trust way too easily.”
“that’s called being nice, seungmin.”
“more like being reckless.”
y/n stuck her tongue out at him. “you’re just mad because i forced you outside.”
“i am mad,” seungmin deadpanned. “i was perfectly fine at home, but no, you had to drag me into the world of socializing and fresh air.”
“fresh air is good for you.”
“no, staying inside and avoiding people is good for me.”
y/n snorted. “you are such a grandpa.”
seungmin side-eyed her. “and you are such a child.”
“and yet, here you are, following a said child to a picnic.”
seungmin sighed, looking up at the sky. “this is my life now.”
y/n just laughed, swinging their hands slightly before realizing what she was doing and immediately letting go.
seungmin didn’t say anything. they reached a quieter street, lined with trees. the golden hour made everything glow, and y/n looked at the street, eyes sparkling.
“it’s so pretty,” she murmured.
y/n suddenly turned to him, her expression soft. “aren’t you glad i dragged you out now?”
seungmin glanced at her, taking in the way her eyes shone in the golden light, the way she absentmindedly reached down to scratch behind star’s ear, the way she looked so effortlessly happy.
he sighed. “i guess it’s not that bad.”
y/n grinned. “that’s the closest thing to a compliment i’ll ever get from you, huh?”
“correct.”
she giggled, and they walked on, letting the peaceful evening carry them forward.
the park was bathed in golden sunlight by the time they arrived, the grass glowing under the warmth of the late afternoon. the blades swayed gently with the occasional breeze, casting playful shadows over the earth. the air smelled of sun-warmed leaves and the faint perfume of wildflowers that lined the walking paths. birds flitted between branches, their soft chirping blending seamlessly with the rustling of leaves. in the distance, laughter and chatter wove into the afternoon air—people jogging along the winding trails, couples lounging on picnic blankets, and children chasing soccer balls with delighted squeals.
but for y/n, it was perfect. a vast, open space. fresh air. the scent of flowers. and most importantly—star.
“finally!” y/n cheered, practically skipping onto the grass as she let go of seungmin’s wrist and crouched down.
“star! you’re free! run, my love, run!” she dramatically spoke.
the dog, catching onto the excitement, let out a happy bark and dashed across the field. his golden fur shimmered under the sunlight as he zoomed in circles, his ears flopping with every movement. the grass bent beneath his paws, tiny petals bursting into the air where he ran.
seungmin exhaled, rubbing his temples. “i feel like i’m babysitting two creatures at once.”
y/n shot him a playful glare. “excuse you. i am a fully functional human being.”
seungmin crossed his arms. “are you? because i just watched you sprint into the park like a five-year-old.”
“i am excited, seungmin! let me live!” y/n huffed, standing up straight and placing her hands on her hips. “look at him. look at my son being all happy.”
seungmin followed her gaze, watching as star excitedly sniffed around, kicking up grass with his paws. he had to admit—watching the dog so free and joyful was kind of… nice. the late sunlight glowed against star’s fur, a halo of gold against the soft green of the park.
y/n, noticing seungmin’s soft expression, nudged him. “see? this is fun. you’re having fun, aren’t you?”
seungmin scoffed. “i'll have fun when we finish our project.”
y/n gasped dramatically. “you love star. you love spending time outside with me. you just don’t wanna admit it.”
seungmin turned to her, deadpan. “i tolerate you at best.”
y/n smirked. “mm-hmm, sure, mr. ‘i secretly enjoy this but will never admit it.’”
seungmin ignored her, crouching down and clicking his tongue. “star, come here.”
star, tail wagging, instantly ran over to seungmin. y/n watched in amusement as seungmin gently patted the dog’s head, scratching behind his ears.
“wow,” y/n teased, arms crossed. “you really are a softie.”
“i am not,” seungmin retorted.
“oh, you so are,” y/n giggled, dropping down beside them. she reached out, rubbing star’s belly as he flopped onto the grass.
for a moment, the world was quiet—just the sound of birds, the occasional laughter of kids in the distance, and the rustling of leaves in the wind. and then, unexpectedly, seungmin chuckled.
it was soft—barely there—but y/n heard it.
she turned her head quickly, eyes turning into little crescents as she smiled, looking at the guy while he pet star.
“your smile is adorable, you know,”
“can we go and actually study now?” seungmin insisted, turning away.
y/n grinned mischievously. “seungmin has a pretty smile, confirmed.”
seungmin rolled his eyes. “shut up.”
“make me.”
seungmin shot her a look. “do you want me to throw you in a bush?”
“you wouldn’t dare.”
seungmin smirked. “test me.”
y/n, still grinning, turned back to star, petting his fur. she didn’t push further, but something about this moment—seungmin smiling, actually enjoying himself—made her heart feel… warm.
then, after what felt like forever of running around with star, playing fetch, and letting him explore every flower patch in sight, they finally settled under a large oak tree. the bark was rough against their backs, but the shade was cool, offering a soft reprieve from the sun’s golden heat.
seungmin stretched his legs out, pulling out his laptop. “alright. now can we actually get to work?”
y/n sat cross-legged across from him, her notebook and a takeout cup in front of her. “yes, yes, fine.”
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “you say that, but you’re still petting star.”
y/n froze mid-pat. “…okay, maybe i have a problem.”
seungmin sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “you definitely have a problem.”
still, he opened his laptop, scanning through the project notes. y/n followed along—at least, she tried to. but every few minutes, she found herself glancing at star, who was now napping beside them, his head resting on her thigh. he noticed.
“y/n.”
“hm?”
“you’re not paying attention.”
y/n blinked. “what? yes, i am.”
seungmin gave her an unimpressed look. “oh yeah? what did i just say?”
y/n panicked. “uh. something about, businesses..?”
seungmin sighed. “you’re impossible.”
y/n pouted. “look, i am listening, but how can i not admire this beautiful creature sleeping on my lap?”
seungmin side-eyed star. “yeah, yeah, he’s adorable. now focus.” y/n huffed, reluctantly turning back to her notes.
for a while, they actually worked—throwing around ideas, writing down key points, and organizing their research.
at some point, though, y/n noticed the way seungmin’s brows furrowed when he was focused, how he tapped his fingers against his laptop absentmindedly. and more than once, seungmin caught y/n just staring at him.
“what?” he finally asked, raising an eyebrow.
y/n shook her head. “nothing.”
seungmin narrowed his eyes. “are you admiring me now?”
y/n scoffed. “you look peaceful when you're reading.”
seungmin just blinked. “well.. i'm reading.”
they continued working, but there was something different now—something softer in the air. subtle things.
like how y/n adjusted star’s sleeping position carefully so he’d be more comfortable. like how seungmin absentmindedly handed y/n her coffee when he noticed she hadn’t taken a sip in a while.
like how their shoulders would brush every now and then, neither of them pulling away. it was all so small, yet it lingered.
and when the sun dipped lower, when the air got a little cooler, when the world felt quieter, y/n found herself thinking—
maybe this wasn’t so bad after all.
Tumblr media
“star, come back, you little menace!” she giggled, barely able to keep up.
seungmin, standing a few feet away with his hands in his pockets, watched the scene unfold with an unreadable expression. his gaze flickered between y/n’s bright, joyful smile and the way star eagerly circled around her, tail wagging furiously.
it was ridiculous, how happy they looked together. ridiculous, and maybe a little… endearing.
star, realizing he was being chased, took that as an invitation to run even faster, his paws kicking up little tufts of grass.
“seungmin!” y/n called, breathless. “help me!”
seungmin sighed. “you brought this upon yourself.”
y/n pouted dramatically. “rude.”
still, seungmin finally crouched down and clicked his tongue, calling for star. instantly, the golden retriever skidded to a stop, his ears perking up as he sprinted toward seungmin instead.
y/n gasped, stopping in her tracks. “traitor!”
seungmin smirked as star practically crashed into him, licking his face. “i guess he likes me better.”
y/n stomped over, hands on her hips. “he does not!”
seungmin wiped his face with his sleeve. “he literally abandoned you for me.”
y/n huffed, flopping onto the grass beside him. star immediately lay down between them, tongue lolling out in content.
“fine,” she said dramatically. “maybe he likes you a little bit.”
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “wow. high praise.”
y/n stuck her tongue out at him before turning her attention back to star. she rubbed his belly, murmuring sweet nonsense as he wagged his tail in delight.
the moment was peaceful. warm. the kind of easy happiness that made time feel slower.
until—
a blur of brown and white fur came bounding toward them, yapping excitedly.
another dog, a lot smaller than star, skidded to a stop right in front of them. her fur was a mix of ginger-brown and cream, her ears flopping as she wagged her tail in excitement.
“oh?” y/n blinked, watching as the new dog sniffed star curiously.
before seungmin could react, a voice called out.
“berry! berry, you little gremlin, get back here!”
a guy—tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in casual sweats—ran toward them, slightly out of breath, his australian accent quite evident. his curly hair was ruffled from the wind, and he had a charming, easygoing smile as he stopped a few feet away.
“oh man, i’m so sorry,” he said, hands on his knees as he caught his breath. “she just—she loves meeting other dogs.”
y/n, already grinning, waved him off. “no worries! star’s the exact same.”
the guy straightened, flashing a sheepish smile. “yeah? that’s good. she’s too friendly sometimes.” he gestured toward the excitable golden retriever, who was now playfully nudging star’s side. “her name’s berry.”
y/n gasped. “that is the cutest name ever.”
the guy laughed, clearly amused. “you think so? i was kinda worried it was too cutesy, but she looks like a little berry, so it stuck.”
seungmin, who had been standing quietly the whole time, resisted the urge to roll his eyes.
this guy is too friendly.
and y/n is too easily charmed.
“i’m chris, by the way,” the guy continued, offering a hand.
“y/n!” she shook his hand enthusiastically. “and this is seungmin.” she nudged seungmin’s arm. “say hi.”
seungmin sighed. “hi.”
chris chuckled. “nice to meet you two.”
seungmin nodded stiffly, before deciding to step back, returning to where their books were laid out under the tree.
y/n, completely unaware of the shift in his mood, continued chatting.
“so how old is berry?” she asked, scratching behind the pup’s ears.
“just over nine! she's been an amazing girl.” chris crouched down beside her, watching as berry and star playfully tumbled over each other. “she’s usually tired but still excited, though.”
y/n laughed. “oh, she's adorable. star has the energy of a child with unlimited sugar intake.”
chris snorted. “that’s the best kind, though.”
seungmin, from where he sat, clicked his tongue.
what’s so funny? what’s so interesting?
he tried to focus on his notes, but his mind kept drifting back to y/n’s voice—bright and animated as she talked to this guy like they’d known each other forever.
it was annoying. not that he cared. of course not.
except he did. a little. maybe. a tiny bit.
“seung!” y/n called suddenly, snapping him out of his thoughts. “come back here! your kid's making a new friend, and you’re missing it!”
seungmin sighed, shutting his laptop a little too aggressively.
when he walked back over, y/n gave him a big, innocent grin. “welcome back. did you miss us?”
seungmin looked at her. then at chris. then at the two dogs playing.
“no.”
y/n laughed, nudging him with her elbow. “liar.”
seungmin sighed, shaking his head. he hated how she could read him so easily.
chris, still petting berry, smiled. “you guys come here often?”
“sometimes, alone though. he just adopted star two days ago.” y/n chirped. “seungmin and i have a project, but i lowkey tricked him into coming here instead of the library.”
chris laughed. “genius.”
seungmin groaned. “please don’t encourage her.”
chris just grinned. “i mean, i get it. if my friend tried to make me study in a library instead of chilling outside with pups? i’d revolt.”
y/n gasped, dramatically placing a hand over her heart. “seungmin! you hear that?! i am validated!”
seungmin stared blankly. “i am regretting my life choices.”
chris chuckled. “well, if you guys ever wanna do another dog hangout, berry and i are around a lot.” he reached into his pocket, pulling out his phone. “here, y/n, you should give me your number. we can plan something.”
seungmin nearly choked.
y/n, completely oblivious to the way seungmin visibly tensed, beamed. “oooh, yes, of course! looks like our dogs are already friends.” she quickly typed her number into chris’s phone, and seungmin felt a very unreasonable surge of irritation.
chris stood, grinning. “cool. see you guys around!” as he walked away, berry gave star one last playful nudge before trotting off after her owner.
the moment they were out of earshot, seungmin exhaled.
y/n, grinning, turned to him. “that was fun, huh?”
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “you gave a random guy your number.”
“he’s not random! he has a dog, seungmin. that makes him automatically trustworthy.”
“that is the worst logic i’ve ever heard.”
y/n just laughed, bumping her shoulder against his. “you’re cute when you sulk, you know.”
seungmin scoffed. “i do not sulk.”
y/n just smirked. “mmm-hmm.”
seungmin rolled his eyes, but as they sat back down under the tree, watching star flop into the grass with a content sigh, he found himself almost smiling.
almost.
so with chris and berry gone, and star finally exhausted from his zoomies, seungmin and y/n settled back under the tree where their books, laptops, and coffee cups were scattered. ☆, now thoroughly worn out, plopped onto the grass with a deep, satisfied sigh, his golden fur catching the sunlight. he lay near y/n’s side, occasionally shifting to rest his head on her lap as she absentmindedly scratched behind his ears.
seungmin, on the other hand, was busy flipping through pages of notes, fingers tapping against his knee. he had somehow ended up with y/n’s pink highlighter, and though he’d never admit it, he kind of liked the contrast of bright neon ink against his otherwise meticulously organized notes.
“well,” y/n stretched, her head tilting back as she groaned dramatically, “we have two days to get this done. two. days. and i still have, like, 40% of the work left.”
seungmin glanced up. “you should be worried, but you don’t look worried.”
she grinned. “because i have you to keep me on track.”
he blinked, unamused. “i regret letting you meet my dog.”
y/n gasped. “excuse me? star was mine first.”
seungmin smirked, tapping the back of his pen against his notebook. “i literally signed the adoption papers. he’s mine now.”
y/n pouted, leaning down to rest her cheek against star’s fur. “baby, did you hear that? your so-called dad is so mean.”
star wagged his tail once but didn’t move.
seungmin scoffed, but there was something fond in the way he looked at her.
“anyway,” he said, flipping a page. “we need to get through at least two sections today if we don’t wanna pull an all-nighter before submission.”
y/n sat up, pushing her hair behind her ears. “alright, alright. time to be productive.”
for a few minutes, it was actually quiet. seungmin explained a concept, y/n listened, asked questions, and for a rare moment, she was focused.
and then— star stretched, rolling onto his back with his paws in the air.
y/n immediately melted, again.
“oh my god,” she whispered, “he’s so cute.”
seungmin closed his eyes, inhaling sharply. “y/n—”
“just look at him!” she gushed, putting her laptop aside to rub star’s belly. “how am i supposed to study when this exists?”
seungmin pinched the bridge of his nose. “you dragged me here for a study session and now you’re the one getting distracted.”
y/n pouted. “i can’t help it!”
seungmin let out a slow exhale before leaning forward to flick her forehead.
“ow—hey!” y/n rubbed the spot he’d flicked, looking betrayed.
“focus,” he said, smirking.
y/n narrowed her eyes but sighed, reluctantly returning to her notes.
minutes passed. then an hour.
despite her initial distractions, y/n actually did well. she caught up on most of the sections she had been behind on, taking notes diligently while seungmin occasionally tested her on concepts.
somewhere between paragraphs and equations, their coffee cups ran empty, and star dozed off beside y/n, his soft snores blending into the comfortable silence.
when the sunlight softened into afternoon hues, y/n stretched again, cracking her back dramatically.
“i think we actually made progress,” she said, sounding surprised.
seungmin glanced at her, amused. “you doubted me?”
“i doubted me,” she corrected. “you, on the other hand, are like an annoyingly effective tutor.”
he smirked. “annoying but effective. i’ll take it.”
she snorted.
then, after a beat, she turned to him with a softer expression.
“thanks for today,” she said.
seungmin blinked. “for… studying?”
“well, yeah,” she shrugged, “but also for letting me see star. and for putting up with my distractions.”
he glanced away for a second, pretending to focus on closing his laptop. “it’s fine. you were less annoying than usual.”
y/n gasped. “seungmin. was that… a compliment?”
he groaned. “forget i said anything.”
but y/n just giggled, nudging his shoulder.
. . .
with the study session wrapping up, y/n shut her notebook and stretched, arms reaching towards the sky as she let out a satisfied sigh.
“i think my brain is officially fried,” she declared, flopping back onto the cool grass.
seungmin rolled his eyes, finishing up his notes. “you always say that after studying for an hour.”
“that’s because my brain isn’t built for intense academic labor.”
“yeah? what is it built for?”
y/n hummed, glancing at the sky. “talking. music. daydreaming. falling in love with random fictional characters—”
seungmin scoffed. “should’ve figured.”
y/n giggled, turning to her side to look at him. “what about you? you’re a music major, right?”
he nodded. “yeah.”
“so, you like music?”
he blinked at her. “no, y/n, i hate it. that’s why i chose to major in it.”
she snorted. “okay, i get it. but like… do you just sing, or do you compose too?”
seungmin hesitated, eyes flickering to the grass as he picked at the hem of his sleeve. “…i write, too.”
y/n’s eyes widened. “wait, really?”
“that’s so cool,” she grinned. “what kind of stuff do you write?”
he glanced away, pretending to be uninterested, but there was a faint pink dusting his ears. “it depends.”
“depends on what?”
“…on the mood.”
y/n tilted her head. “like, do you write sad songs when you’re sad?”
“sometimes.”
“and happy songs when you’re happy?”
seungmin exhaled a laugh. “yeah, something like that.”
y/n hummed in thought before sitting up, crossing her legs. “can i hear something someday?”
he turned to her, eyebrows raised. “you wanna hear my songs?”
“well, yeah,” she said like it was obvious. “if you wrote them, they must be good.”
seungmin looked at her for a moment, slightly taken aback.
it wasn’t that he hid his music, but he also never had someone be this… interested.
y/n, on the other hand, seemed genuinely eager. her brown eyes sparkled with curiosity, her black curls catching the golden sunlight as she leaned in slightly.
“…maybe one day,” he finally said.
she gasped, dramatically placing a hand on her heart. “did i just get kim seungmin to agree to something?”
he rolled his eyes. “regretfully.”
y/n laughed, the sound soft and warm, blending into the lazy afternoon air.
then, after a beat, she asked, “so, when did you start writing?”
seungmin hesitated, staring at the ground for a second before answering. “…high school, i guess.”
“because you liked it?”
“because i needed to.”
y/n’s playful grin softened. “needed to?”
he sighed, leaning back on his hands. “…it was just an outlet, i guess.”
y/n nodded, understanding. “music’s like that, huh? the way it can say what words can’t.”
seungmin turned to her, surprised. “…yeah.”
for a second, they just looked at each other.
the breeze was soft, rustling through the leaves, and the golden afternoon light framed y/n’s face perfectly.
seungmin swallowed.
she was—
“…anyway!” y/n broke the silence, grinning again. “do you have a favorite song you’ve written?”
he blinked, shaking off whatever that thought was. “not really.”
“what? no way.”
he smirked. “i don’t.”
“well, what’s your most recent one about?”
he hesitated, the corner of his lips twitching. “wouldn’t you like to know?”
y/n groaned. “you are so annoying.”
“you’re the one asking questions.”
“because i wanna know you!” she huffed.
seungmin stilled.
y/n blinked, realizing how that sounded, and quickly scrambled to fix it. “i mean, like—! not in a weird way! just in a ‘we’re friends and i’m curious’ way—”
seungmin chuckled, amused at her sudden flustered state.
her face was slightly red, lips pursed, avoiding his gaze.
and he—
…was noticing too much.
clearing his throat, he glanced away, staring at star, who was now lazily sprawled across the grass, napping.
“…it was about wanting something you can’t have,” he finally said.
y/n turned back to him, blinking. “what?”
“the last song i wrote,” he said, not looking at her. “it was about that.”
y/n tilted her head. “oh…”
silence.
“…like a person.. or a thing?”
seungmin’s jaw tensed. “something like that.”
y/n’s lips parted slightly, but she didn’t push.
instead, she smiled gently. “well, if you ever wanna share, i’d love to hear it.”
seungmin glanced at her.
she meant it.
it was in the way her voice softened, the way her eyes held nothing but warmth.
“…yeah,” he muttered, looking away. “maybe.”
y/n grinned. “i’ll hold you to that.”
seungmin exhaled, shaking his head, but the corner of his lips twitched.
and as the afternoon stretched on, filled with more questions, quiet laughter, and stolen glances—
he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was shifting.
the golden hues of the afternoon had softened into a dusky warmth, but neither of them had moved from their spot. the books had been closed a while ago, pushed aside, making way for idle chatter and occasional banter. star was still sprawled across the grass, now lazily flicking his tail in his sleep.
y/n reached for her matcha latte without thinking, bringing it to her lips as she listened to seungmin talk.
“so, basically, jisung thought he was auditioning for a singing position but it was actually for theatre,” seungmin smirked, recalling the tragic yet hilarious memory.
y/n, mid-sip, choked on her drink. “what?!”
seungmin watched as she coughed, eyes wide in disbelief.
“you’re telling me he— he accidentally signed up for a theatre audition? how does one confuse that..”
“oh yeah.” seungmin nodded, crossing his arms. “i swear, i’ve never seen him improvise so fast. he ended up just… dramatically narrating the lyrics to some song.”
y/n wheezed. “please tell me there’s a video.”
“there is.”
“i need to see it.”
“we all do,” seungmin sighed. “but it’s buried in the archives of shame.”
y/n wiped the corner of her mouth, shaking her head. “jisung is actually insane.”
seungmin hummed in agreement, watching as she absentmindedly took another sip of matcha.
it took him approximately three seconds to realize—
that wasn’t her drink.
it was his.
his eyes flickered between the cup in her hand and his own, which was still sitting untouched beside him.
for a split second, he considered telling her—maybe teasing her for it.
but instead—
he said nothing.
maybe it was because she looked so natural, holding it like it had always been hers. or maybe it was the way she kept laughing, completely unaware of the fact that she had just—
whatever.
it didn’t bother him.
which was weird.
but before he could overthink it, y/n placed the cup back down, already moving to stretch.
“i need to move,” she groaned, standing up. “my legs are gonna cramp.”
seungmin leaned back on his hands. “what, so you’re just gonna run away?”
“not run,” she corrected, dramatically dusting off her jeans. “just gonna go play with my favorite boy in the world.”
seungmin raised a brow. “i’m right here.”
“i meant star, you nerdy narcissist.”
seungmin scoffed, shaking his head as he watched her crouch beside the golden retriever, gently running her fingers through his fur.
“cute.” there was a mumble.
star blinked up at her sleepily before sighing, dramatically rolling onto his back.
y/n gasped. “oh my god. you are so adorable.”
seungmin exhaled, his gaze lingering.
there was something about the way she was—so effortlessly warm, so naturally affectionate.
the way her eyes softened when she looked at star. the way she giggled when he licked her cheek. the way she—
“…min, look!”
he blinked, snapping out of his thoughts as y/n turned to him, beaming.
“what?”
she pointed at star, who was now trying to hold her hand between his paws.
seungmin huffed out a small laugh. “yeah, yeah. he likes you.”
“like???” y/n scoffed. “loves. he loves me.”
seungmin rolled his eyes, pushing himself up from the grass and walking over to them.
as he approached, star wagged his tail excitedly, shifting his attention to him.
“see?” y/n grinned. “he loves you, too.”
seungmin crouched down, scratching star behind the ears. “obviously. who wouldn’t?”
y/n shot him an unimpressed look. “you have no shame.”
he smirked. “why would i?”
y/n groaned, flopping onto the grass dramatically.
star, thrilled by her sudden movement, barked before immediately climbing on top of her.
“wait, no—!” y/n squeaked.
seungmin stood over them, arms crossed. “this is hilarious.”
“help me, you traitor!”
he shrugged. “nah, you’re his favorite, right? deal with it.”
y/n glared at him through a mess of golden fur, breathless from laughing.
and seungmin—
he noticed it again.
the way her cheeks were flushed. the way her curls were sprawled against the grass. the way—
“…oh my god, is this your revenge?” y/n gasped.
seungmin snapped out of it. “what?”
“you planned this.” she squinted at him, grinning. “you trained star to betray me.”
he snorted. “yeah, because i totally trained a dog i adopted yesterday.”
“exactly!”
he rolled his eyes. “you’re insane.”
“thank you.”
with that, she finally managed to wriggle out from under star, sitting up and dusting off her clothes.
star happily plopped his head onto her lap, sighing contently.
y/n smiled, running her fingers through his fur.
and seungmin—
he exhaled, sitting beside them.
he didn’t get it.
didn’t understand why—
why it was so easy to be here, with her.
why it was so easy to look.
but for some reason—
he didn’t mind figuring it out.
soon, the sky had started shifting into deeper shades of indigo, the golden warmth of the sun melting into something softer, quieter. they hadn’t moved from their spot under the tree, their books still scattered on the blanket beneath them, long forgotten. star had long since worn himself out from his zoomies, only to reawaken with another surge of energy, bolting across the grass like a streak of gold.
y/n had her knees tucked up to her chest, her chin resting lazily atop them, watching the dog with the kind of fondness that made something in seungmin’s chest tighten.
“you do realize you’re going to be his favorite person for life, right?” she mused, glancing at him with a knowing smile.
seungmin, leaning back on his hands, scoffed. “he better be loyal.”
she gasped dramatically. “loyal? seungmin, that’s a dog. of course he's loyal.”
he laughed, tilting his head. “yeah?”
y/n exhaled, flopping onto her back. “yeah.”
“finally,” he hummed, shifting to look down at her, “it seems you're tired.”
she lifted a hand, flicking his forehead. “against my will.”
seungmin chuckled under his breath, rubbing the spot absentmindedly. “right. that’s why you’ve been making it your life’s mission to barge into my dorm every day like a ray of sunshine.”
y/n opened her mouth to argue, but no words came out. she clamped it shut, lips pressing into a line.
seungmin smirked. “that’s what i thought.”
“you’re so annoying,” she grumbled, turning her head away.
“yet you’re still here.”
“stop repeating that!”
his laugh was warm, effortless.
the silence that followed was comfortable—easy in the way that it lingered without pressure, stretching between them as the wind stirred through the leaves above. the distant sounds of the park continued—laughter, conversation, the occasional bark—but between them, the world was quiet.
y/n was still lying on her back, her eyes tracing the deepening hues of the sky. seungmin sat beside her, his gaze naturally drawn to her profile—the soft curve of her lips, the gentle rise and fall of her chest. his hand rested against the blanket, fingers idly toying with the hem. he wasn’t entirely sure why he was still looking, but something about the way she was bathed in fading light made it impossible to glance away.
“do you ever just…” y/n’s voice was softer now, thoughtful. “feel so full of something but don’t know what to do with it?”
seungmin stilled.
“…what kind of ‘something’?”
she exhaled slowly. “like…” she turned her head, meeting his gaze. “something warm.”
his fingers curled slightly against the fabric beneath him.
warm.
he knew that feeling. he’d been feeling it this entire time.
a slow, deliberate kind of warmth. the kind that sneaks up on you and settles beneath your skin. the kind that lingers, even when you’re trying not to think about it.
“yeah,” he murmured, his voice quieter than before.
y/n’s lips parted slightly, her eyes searching his.
he didn’t know who moved first.
maybe it was her—her breath hitching as she leaned ever so slightly closer.
maybe it was him—the way his hand lifted, fingers grazing against her wrist, tentative but not hesitant.
maybe it was something neither of them could name, something inevitable. all he knew was that when their lips met, the world stopped.
it was soft at first, unhurried—like a quiet realization unfolding in real time. her lips were warm, plush, molding against his in a way that sent a slow, curling heat through his veins. he could feel the tentative way she responded, the hesitation melting away as she pressed closer. his hand moved on instinct, cupping the side of her face, his thumb brushing against the delicate skin of her cheek.
and then—
she sighed against him.
and something in seungmin broke.
the kiss deepened, slow and intoxicating, the warmth between them turning into something more. his fingers slid into her hair, tilting her head as he kissed her deeper, tasting the faint remnants of matcha on her tongue. her hands gripped his sleeves, clutching onto him like she wasn’t sure she’d ever let go.
a slow drag of lips. the slide of warmth. the gentle push and pull, like a silent conversation in a language only they understood.
she made a soft sound—a quiet, involuntary sigh against his mouth—and seungmin groaned, his grip tightening. in one swift motion, he pulled her into his lap, his arms wrapping securely around her.
she gasped against him, fingers gripping his collar now, knuckles white.
seungmin barely pulled away, his breath mingling with hers. “okay?”
y/n nodded, dazed, her lips already parting for him again.
and so he kissed her again, deeper this time, slower, more deliberate. like he was savoring it. like he wanted to memorize the way she felt against him. the warmth of her. the way her lips yielded so easily to his. the way she sighed when he angled his head just right. he was good at this—really good at this. she could feel it in the way he moved, the way he knew exactly how to kiss her like he had all the time in the world.
it was dizzying.
overwhelming.
addicting.
when they finally pulled away, y/n was breathless, her cheeks burning. seungmin exhaled slowly, his thumb brushing against her cheekbone. she looked adorable. her lips were pink, slightly swollen, her eyes half-lidded and dazed.
“wow,” she whispered.
seungmin smirked. “yeah?”
y/n blinked, nodding furiously. “yeah.”
he chuckled, pressing his forehead against hers. “good.”
for a moment, they just breathed, the weight of what had just happened settling between them.
then—
a sudden blur of gold zoomed past them. they both turned just in time to see star bolting across the grass, his tail wagging so fast it was a blur.
seungmin sighed, rubbing his temple. “of course.”
y/n, still dazed, let out a giggle, her fingers still curled loosely around his collar. “guess he approves.”
seungmin rolled his eyes, but the corners of his lips twitched upward. “yeah, yeah.”
y/n bit her lip, looking down at him. her gaze flickered to his lips. seungmin caught it. his smirk widened.
“you so wanna kiss me again.”
y/n shoved his shoulder. “shut up.”
he laughed, his arms still around her. “you’re not even denying it.”
y/n groaned, burying her face into his shoulder. “shut up.”
seungmin just grinned, his fingers slipping back into her hair.
yeah. this warmth? he could get used to it.
they stayed like that for a while, tangled in the warmth of each other, the air still thick with something unnamed yet understood. neither of them moved immediately—not because they didn’t know what to do next, but because this was nice. the weight of her against him, the slow rhythm of their breaths, the way their fingers stayed lightly curled in each other’s clothes as if neither was quite ready to let go.
eventually, though, reality had to set in.
y/n exhaled, shifting slightly in his lap, her fingers still resting on the collar of his hoodie. “we should probably… y’know.”
seungmin hummed, making no move to let go. “should we?”
she narrowed her eyes, giving him a half-hearted glare. “don’t be annoying.”
he smirked. “i literally can’t help it.”
rolling her eyes, she lightly flicked his forehead before pushing herself up, and immediately regretted it. her legs were numb, her heart was still racing, and the moment she was standing, she suddenly realized—
we just kissed.
the weight of it hit her all over again, sinking into her skin, making her stomach twist in a way she couldn’t quite place. seungmin was still sitting, looking obnoxiously unbothered, like he didn’t just leave her completely breathless. she huffed under her breath, brushing imaginary dust off her sleeves.
meanwhile, seungmin watched her, eyes sharp, amused. he could see the way she was avoiding his gaze, could see the way her fingers twitched, adjusting her sleeves.
it was cute.
“something wrong?” he asked, voice laced with amusement.
she snapped her gaze to him, lips parting, face slightly pink. “huh? no! why would anything be wrong?”
seungmin’s smirk widened. “mhm.”
“i—” she huffed, crossing her arms. “you’re so annoying, i swear.”
he finally stood, stretching his arms above his head before stuffing his hands into his pockets. “and yet…”
y/n groaned. “seungmin.”
he chuckled, glancing at her before tilting his head toward the scattered books. “c’mon, let’s pack up.”
she nodded, relieved for the momentary escape from the weight of that kiss. but even as they gathered their books, even as she stuffed her things into her tote bag, she could still feel it. the warmth, the way he held her, the slow press of his lips against hers.
she turned her back to him, biting her lip to keep herself from grinning like an idiot.
seungmin noticed. he definitely noticed. but he didn’t say anything.
instead, he grabbed her unfinished matcha latte—the one that had started all this in the first place. without thinking, he lifted it to his lips, taking a sip. and y/n, ever the observant one, immediately noticed.
her eyes widened. “did you just—”
he raised a brow. “what?”
“that’s mine.”
seungmin blinked, licking his lips, as if only now realizing. then, he shrugged. “you drank from mine first.”
y/n’s face turned red. he smirked.
flustered, she grabbed her bag, whistled for star, and stormed off in the direction of the dorms. seungmin let out a soft laugh before following.
. . .
the walk back was… not awkward. but not not awkward.
there was something lingering in the air between them, something unspoken, something charged. y/n found herself hyperaware of everything—the distance between them, the way their hands occasionally brushed, the sound of their footsteps on the pavement.
seungmin, for once, wasn’t teasing her.
that, more than anything, made her nervous. she risked a glance at him. he was walking with his hands still in his pockets, eyes ahead, looking as relaxed as ever. if anything, he looked… deep in thought.
“seungmin.”
he turned his head. “hm?”
she hesitated. “are you—are you being weird?”
his lips twitched. “what does that even mean?”
“i don’t know,” she groaned, hugging her tote bag closer. “you’re quiet. you’re never quiet.”
he gave her a look. “i am quiet.”
“not around me.”
seungmin exhaled through his nose, looking away. “…i guess i’m just thinking.”
y/n frowned slightly. “thinking about what?”
he shrugged. “stuff.”
she narrowed her eyes. “what kind of stuff?”
at that, he glanced at her, meeting her gaze for a moment too long. “you.”
y/n’s breath hitched. her face burned.
seungmin looked back ahead, as if he hadn’t just casually said something that made her entire body short-circuit. she opened her mouth. closed it. opened it again. closed it again.
seungmin smirked to himself. they kept walking.
by the time they reached his dorm, the air was slightly less charged, but only because y/n had started rambling about how star needed a new toy collection. she was already planning an entire schedule for star—days when she’d take him out, what treats she’d bake, whether she should get him a sweater for when it got colder.
seungmin just listened, hands in his pockets, nodding occasionally.
when they reached the door, y/n turned to him, rocking on her heels. “so… see you tomorrow?”
seungmin leaned against the doorframe, tilting his head. “you’re not barging in again?”
she pouted. “am i that annoying?”
seungmin’s gaze flickered to her lips for a split second before he smirked. “nah.”
her heart did a thing. she quickly looked away. “okay, well. goodnight, seungmin.”
“ ‘night, y/n.”
she turned, starting down the hall, feeling a little lighter. just as she reached the end, she heard his voice.
“hey, y/n.”
she stopped. looked over her shoulder. “yeah?”
seungmin shoved his hands further into his pockets. for a moment, he just looked at her. then, with a slow, knowing smirk—
“sweet dreams.” and then he shut the door.
y/n stood there. processing. then, with an exasperated groan, she spun on her heel and stormed toward her own dorm.
her face was burning. seungmin, on the other side of the door, chuckled under his breath.
yeah. this was definitely going to be fun.
soon, y/n barely had time to recover from seungmin’s stupid smirk before she opened her dorm door and was immediately met with a chorus of gasps and dramatic expressions.
aeri was lounging on the couch, legs crossed, sipping on what looked like matcha tea (as if that wasn’t already triggering enough). rina was sitting on the floor with her back against the couch, arms crossed, eyes deadly sharp. felix and hyunjin?
they were standing. right in front of her.
like interrogators. waiting.
y/n blinked. “uh—”
aeri squinted. “you’re late.”
rina narrowed her eyes. “suspiciously late.”
hyunjin placed a hand over his chest. “and you didn’t text us back.”
felix gasped dramatically, gripping hyunjin’s shoulder. “she never does that.”
y/n gaped. “never?”
aeri pointed her straw at her. “never.”
“i was busy,” y/n whined, slipping off her shoes. “i did text you guys.”
“hours ago,” rina said.
felix crossed his arms. “so where were you really?”
y/n opened her mouth. closed it. looked around at all their expectant faces.
aeri gasped. “wait.”
everyone turned to her.
she pointed. “you look different.”
hyunjin’s eyes widened. “she does.”
felix leaned in, inspecting her face. “…she’s glowing.”
“i am not—”
“you’re blushing.”
y/n clapped a hand over her face. “i am not blushing.”
rina smirked. “did something happen?”
y/n groaned, throwing herself onto the couch beside aeri. “can i please just breathe?”
“no,” aeri said.
felix gasped again, grabbing hyunjin’s arm dramatically. “wait—what if—”
“what if she kissed seungmin?” hyunjin finished, eyes gleaming.
y/n choked. “what—”
“she totally did,” rina gasped.
aeri sat up, pointing. “you so did.”
felix clapped his hands. “we knew something was happening between you two!”
“i—no you did not—”
“we totally did,” hyunjin argued. “seungmin has never let someone drag him out for picnics.”
aeri wiggled her brows. “did you finally kiss, you slow-burn idiots?”
y/n smacked a cushion over her face. “i hate you all.”
“she’s not denying it.”
rina snorted. “so? how was it?”
“excuse me?”
felix and hyunjin jumped onto the couch, both of them pressing closer.
“be honest,” felix whispered.
“was he good?” hyunjin asked.
“did he—” aeri leaned in, smirking. “use tongue?”
“oh my god—”
. . .
meanwhile, in another part of the building, seungmin finally stepped into his dorm, tossing his bag near the door. he expected peace. silence.
maybe jisung playing some dumb mobile game and minho scrolling on his phone. instead..
the moment he closed the door, jisung and minho—sitting side by side on the couch—turned to look at him in perfect unison.
seungmin paused.
jisung raised a brow. “you’re late.”
seungmin exhaled. “oh my god, not you too.”
minho sipped his coffee. “he seems unusually… relaxed.”
seungmin narrowed his eyes. “and?”
jisung smirked. “you never come back relaxed.”
seungmin rolled his eyes, moving toward the fridge. “you guys are annoying.”
jisung gasped. “minho. minho. look at him.”
minho hummed. “i see it.”
seungmin turned. “see what?”
jisung grinned. “you got some, didn’t you?”
minho smirked. “i knew you liked her.”
seungmin groaned, running a hand down his face. “you both need to shut up.”
jisung sat up, eyes gleaming. “you did kiss her, didn’t you?”
seungmin exhaled, grabbed a water bottle, and took a long sip.
minho raised a brow. “he’s avoiding.”
“he’s totally avoiding.”
seungmin sighed, leaning against the counter. “i hate both of you.”
jisung grinned. “we love you too.”
minho smirked, setting his cup down. “so? how was it?”
seungmin scoffed. “what is wrong with you people?”
jisung gasped dramatically. “you didn’t like it?”
seungmin froze for half a second.
jisung smirked. “ohhh, you totally did.”
minho nodded, smug. “he liked it.”
seungmin rolled his eyes. “shut up.”
jisung grinned, leaning back. “it’s okay, you can tell us. we don’t judge.”
minho nodded, taking another sip of his coffee. “we definitely judge.”
seungmin exhaled. “i hate you both.”
jisung smirked. “we know.” . . . “so…” rina wiggled her brows. “you’re seeing him again tomorrow?”
y/n groaned, collapsing onto the couch. “i see him everyday.”
felix smirked. “because you love him.”
y/n choked. “i do not—”
hyunjin held up his hands. “we’re just saying.”
aeri snickered. “you so do.”
y/n grabbed a cushion and screamed into it.
her friends just laughed.
meanwhile, back in seungmin’s dorm, minho stretched, setting his cup down. “so, what now?”
seungmin shrugged. “dunno.”
jisung smirked. “you gonna kiss her again?”
seungmin grabbed his pillow and chucked it at him.
jisung yelped.
minho snickered.
seungmin just leaned back against the couch, arms crossed, watching jisung groan into the pillow.
he would kiss her again.
he absolutely would.
but they didn’t need to know that.
yet.
“not like you two didn’t kiss or do each other while you had the dorm to yourself.”
minho didn’t even blink.
jisung, however. jisung choked on his own breath.
minho exhaled. “ah.”
minho took another sip of his coffee, unbothered. “he has a point.”
jisung spluttered. “excuse me?”
seungmin smirked. “you’re telling me you guys were alone for hours and did nothing?”
minho shrugged. “not my fault if he’s loud.”
jisung died. “i was not loud.”
minho hummed, setting his coffee down. “mm. sure.”
seungmin snorted. “see? it’s so obvious.”
jisung clutched his chest. “i hate you both.”
minho stretched. “no, you don’t.”
jisung threw a pillow at him.
seungmin just sat back, grinning, absolutely enjoying this.
jisung groaned, burying his face in his hands. “i hate my life.”
minho patted his head. “that’s okay. i love you.”
seungmin smirked. “aw.”
jisung screamed into his hands.

the night was unusually quiet, as if the universe itself had decided to hush the world into stillness. the faint hum of the city outside was softened by the gentle patter of rain against the windows, a rhythmic lullaby that often lulled you into dreams. but tonight, it couldn't. not when your mind was restless, tangled in thoughts you couldn’t untie. you hadn’t meant to disturb the peace of the bed—the warmth of your boyfriend beside you was usually enough to keep the darkness at bay. but something unspoken gnawed at you, an ache too familiar to ignore.
it was nearing 3am when he stirred, his hand instinctively reaching out to the space where you should’ve been. the emptiness startled him awake, his fingers brushing cold sheets instead of your warmth. blinking against the dim light filtering through the curtains, his heart sank when he realized you weren’t there.
the room was bathed in silver moonlight, spilling through the half-open curtains in soft, uneven waves, illuminating the chaos of their shared space. the indent of your body remained on the mattress, a shallow impression in the memory foam, stark and still. jisung’s fingers brushed the cooling fabric, the texture of the duvet suddenly foreign against his fingertips. it was as your absence had stripped the bed of its familiarity, leaving only muted reminders of you—your scent lingering faintly in the air, a whiff of your favorite vanilla and cinnamon moisturiser.
he pushed himself upright, the sheets slipping away from his chest like water pooling to his waist. the air felt sharper without you, slicing through the warmth he’d carried in his sleep. his eyes, still heavy-lidded and bleary, scanned the room, seeking you out instinctively. shadows gathered in the corners, their jagged edges softened by the moonlight. your absence grew louder with every passing second, an ache that started in his chest and crept into the pit of his stomach.
jisung swung his legs over the edge of the bed, his feet meeting the chilled floor. the hardwood creaked beneath him, a sound that might have woken you, coaxing a sleepy protest from you lips. now, it only echoed in the stillness, a reminder of how empty the space felt without you. his hands rubbed his face, chasing away the remnants of sleep as he called you softly, the syllables barely escaping his throat.
then he saw it; a faint glow seeping through the crack of the balcony door.
there you were, silhouetted against the quiet rain. the soft drizzle had dampened the balcony floor, leaving trails of silver glistening in the faint light. you were wrapped in one of his hoodies, the hem brushing against your thighs, your arms crossed tightly over your chest as if shielding yourself from a chill that wasn’t entirely physical.
he walked away from the messy bed silently, the cool floor against his feet grounding him as he padded toward the door. he hesitated for a moment, watching you from behind the glass. the way your shoulders rose and fell, your head tilted slightly as if lost in thought, made his heart ache. he knew—he always knew when something weighed on you. and tonight, it seemed heavier than usual.
sliding the door open, he stepped out. the cool night air greeted him, carrying the faint scent of rain and earth. “couldn’t sleep?” his voice was soft, almost a whisper, as if speaking too loudly would shatter the fragile quiet around you.
you startled slightly, your head turning to see him. his eyes, dark with sleep but laced with concern, met yours. “i didn’t mean to wake you,” you murmured, your voice as fragile as the raindrops clinging to the railing.
“you didn’t,” he assured, stepping closer until he was beside you. he didn’t touch you right away, knowing better than to invade your space without invitation. instead, he leaned against the railing, his gaze following yours into the rain-drenched cityscape. “what’s on your mind?”
you hesitated. the words felt too heavy, too tangled. “i don’t know,” you admitted, though you both knew it wasn’t entirely true.
jisung’s lips curved into a faint, understanding smile. “you’re a bad liar, baby,” he said gently, his tone devoid of accusation.
you exhaled a shaky laugh, the sound barely audible. “it’s stupid,” you began, but he shook his head before you could finish.
“if it’s keeping you up at this hour, i wouldn't think it is,” he countered, his voice steady, grounding.
you shifted your weight, fingers brushing against the cool metal of the railing. “sometimes it feels like… like i’m still stuck. like no matter how far i’ve come, there’s still this part of me that's just..” your voice broke, frustration mingling with vulnerability.
jisung’s eyes softened, his heart aching at the raw honesty in your words. he took a step closer, careful and deliberate, his presence warm and steady. “hey,” he murmured, his voice low, soothing. “look at me.”
you turned to him reluctantly, your eyes glistening not with rain but with unshed tears. he reached out slowly, giving you every opportunity to move away, but you didn’t. his fingers brushed against yours, tentative, before he took your hand in his. “you’re not stuck,” he said, his voice firm but tender. “you’re healing. and healing isn’t a straight line. it’s messy and hard, but it’s still progress. you’re still moving forward.”
a tear slipped down your cheek, and jisung caught it with the pad of his thumb, his touch featherlight. “you’ve come so far,” he continued, his gaze unwavering. “and even on the days when it feels like you haven’t, i’ll be right here, reminding you that you have.”
his words unraveled something in you, the knot of tension loosening as you leaned into him. he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close, his hoodie enveloping you both. the steady beat of his heart beneath your ear was a comfort, a rhythm you could anchor yourself to.
“i’m sorry,” you whispered, your voice muffled against his chest.
he pulled back just enough to look at you, his expression a mix of exasperation and affection. “don’t apologize,” he said firmly. “not for this. not for feeling. not for anything actually.”
the rain continued its quiet symphony around you, the city a blurred canvas of lights and shadows. the world felt distant, inconsequential, as you stood there wrapped in jisung’s arms. his presence was steady, grounding, as if he were your anchor in a storm.
“i don’t know what i did to deserve you,” you said softly, your fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt.
jisung laughed quietly, the sound warm and soothing. “you existed,” he said simply, his lips brushing against the crown of your head.
for a while, neither of you spoke. the silence wasn’t heavy, but comforting, a shared understanding that words weren’t always necessary. the rain eased into a gentle drizzle, the air cool and crisp, carrying with it the faintest hint of dawn.
eventually, jisung broke the silence. “come back to bed?” he asked, his voice soft, coaxing. “it feels empty and cold without you.”
you nodded, smiling slightly, letting him guide you back inside. the warmth of the bedroom was a stark contrast to the cool night, and as you slipped beneath the covers, jisung’s arms found your waist again, holding you close.
“we’ll figure it out together,” he murmured against your hair, his voice heavy with sleep but resolute. “always.”
and with him beside you, the world felt a little less heavy, the darkness a little less daunting. you closed your eyes, letting the sound of his breathing and the faint patter of rain lull you into a peace you hadn’t thought possible. for the first time that night, you felt like you could breathe.
Tumblr media
the soft warmth of morning light filtered through the curtains, painting the room in hues of gold and amber. the rain had stopped, leaving the world outside damp and glistening, like a secret freshly unwrapped. you stirred, cocooned in the familiar scent of jisung’s cologne and the lingering traces of sleep. his arms were draped around you, one hand resting against the small of your back, the other tangled in your hair. his steady breaths tickled your neck, a gentle reminder of his presence.
for a moment, you didn’t move, savoring the rare quiet of the morning. the weight of his arm, the warmth of his body pressed against yours, felt like home. slowly, you turned your head to look at him. his face was relaxed in sleep, his lips slightly parted, his lashes casting faint shadows on his cheeks. the sight made your heart swell, a quiet ache of love and gratitude.
as if sensing your gaze, jisung stirred, his hold tightening briefly before his eyes fluttered open. his brown eyes met yours, soft and drowsy, and a slow, lazy smile spread across his face. “good morning,” he murmured, his voice rough with sleep but filled with warmth.
“good morning,” you replied, your voice just as soft. you reached up to brush a strand of hair from his forehead, your fingers lingering against his skin.
he closed his eyes at your touch, leaning into it like a cat seeking affection. “how are you feeling?” he asked, his eyes opening again to search yours.
“better,” you admitted, your lips curving into a small smile. “thanks to you.”
jisung’s smile widened, his dimples appearing. “good,” he said simply, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. “that’s all i want.”
you shifted closer, burying your face in the crook of his neck. his skin was warm, and the faint scent of him—a mix of his cologne and something inherently jisung—wrapped around you like a blanket. “i don’t ever want to leave this spot,” you mumbled against his skin.
he chuckled, the sound vibrating through his chest. “then don’t,” he said, his hand running soothingly up and down your back. “stay here. with me. forever.”
you pulled back just enough to look at him, your eyes meeting his. “forever?” you teased, a playful smile tugging at your lips.
he grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief and sincerity. “forever and then some.”
the two of you stayed like that, wrapped in each other’s warmth, exchanging soft words and lazy smiles. the world outside could wait. in this moment, there was only the two of you, tangled in love and the quiet magic of a new day.

jisung ୨୧ this man dgaf. honestly, if anything, he's going to be yapping to you 24-7. belting random love songs while in the dressing room, for you. wants to be holding your hand, definitely.. (see what i did there?) giving you a lot of pecks. mostly on your lips or chin. idk why, i just feel like he'd do that. randomly starts spinning you and laughing in between practices. desperate of your attention. during lunch breaks, he definitely wants to feed you a bit, even with you complaining. the jeekies being so full of food, random winks thrown at your direction with dramatic flying kisses; no matter the complaints shot by his members, and a certain glare by a certain someone. i'd say not even two minutes later he's being chased minho.
felix ୨୧ my baby !!!!! he's definitely a little shy because of the constant teasing of his members. i feel like he'd also not only love holding your hand like all the others, but also be comparing the sizes of your palms, his being tiny but still bigger than your tinier ones, both wearing the couple rings he bought for you two. he'd also be absentmindedly tracing shapes, and anything on your skin, tickling you a bit. he loves to see you giggle or laugh, joining you. he's stay really close to you, when you're counting his freckles. he's so giving you pecks all over your face, and even little head pats. he's absolutely adorable and a bigggggg cuddle bear >< (you saw it coming.) loves loves loves having you on his lap ! you cannot prove me wrong; it can be when you're alone, or with the members; sometimes during breaks between his practice, or when he's in the dorm, trying to go back to silver from bronze, with the rest of the younger maknae line (seungmo, iyen). with the controller in his hands, arms circling around your waist, trapping you as you watched them play, possible trying to count the freckles on his face when you're distracted by him. it doesn't matter, he neeeedssss you close !!
seungmin ୨୧ a literal menacing pup of a boyfriend. he'll be treating you more like a kid than a girlfriend. playing soooo hard to get even if you're in a relationship for a year (it's normal !! he loves pushing your buttons. but there definitely is a very soft side of him.) / being nonchalant, as if he's not tempted to keep you on his lap every single minute. holding hands. he will not be very loud about it, but he will keep it subtle and cutesy. caressing your thumb. caressing your cheek when you lean in too close. heating up like a cherry when you give him a peck, shocking him; he's embarrassed asf. the member's presence is not helping. he will not admit it but he clearly is flustered and wants more of the kisses. but usually won't initiate it in public. feel like subtle grips on your waist or thigh; protectively. some days, he'll be initiating hugs in public though. keeping you close, in a louder way, ykwim? probably also likes braiding your hair or putting it in a bun (and almost failing to do so), when your hair is down or he's just bored.
jeongin ୨୧ he's as red as a tomato, at first though !! the hyungs just can't believe seeing their maknae having a lover; they do love you; but they love love love teasing the hell out of him. though it grows on him. at first, he used to only hold you close or give brief cheek-pecks, but as you both got used to it, he doesn't mind it anymore but he's not as loud as in private. it's not a big deal, he's just very private about his love life !! when with the members, he's comfortable. back-hugs, forehead kisses, tiny pecks, holding hands, all of that. very protective though. needs you around him at all times. he'd also be having have an arm around your shoulders !! if you're cold, either wrapping his arms around you works or draping his jacket on your shoulders does too.

chris ୨୧ he is definitely the type who does not give two shits. he will kiss you whenever he wishes to; at the recording studio, when 3racha and maybe even rest of his members are recording for the coming album; in breaks; during practice when you come visit him, or when you’re at his shared dorm with jeongin. this man will not hesitate once to pull you onto his lap, and pressing light, feather kisses to your lips, cheeks, nose, forehead, with soft pats on your head or middle. however it’s hard to miss how adorable he looks when crimson rises up his cheeks, ears and neck, grin widening as deep chuckles leave his mouth- followed by a glare, because seungmin probably calls you two grandparents or just him, an old man. he will get shy and flustered when his members tease him — but that won’t stop him from fulfilling his wishes, after some giggling !! he needs to have his arm around you, or fingers lacing yours or his on your thigh, at all times. a simple act that helps him ground, knowing you’re there with him. and of course, he will keep a limit to the pda, not wanting to cringe out or distract his members — or get himself carried away with you.
minho ୨୧ this man is definitely a ruthless tease. you're around him and the members, he's leaning in close, your noses touching. the next thing you know, he flicks your nose with that stupid grin on his face, sprinting away to continue practicing or whatever it was that he was doing. but the teasing ends soon, as he just can't help but be beside you all the time. have his hand on your lower back, hips (living up to the butthunter title), or even holding your hands if you're lucky. he will fold but pretend to act nonchalant when you give him a peck on the cheek- or lips.
changbin ୨୧ okay hmo. he loves loves LOVES back hugs. it doesn’t matter if he’s on the giving or receiving end. he just loves them. also forehead kisses and cuddling even if it’s brief !!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is down bad for physical affection, definitely. having you on his lap, or his arms around your waist, and caressing your skin. pecks on the lips for sure. he won’t mind the others but he will get shy but a little when the members tease him or hyunjin feigns hurt of his wife leaving him; only for you to fluster your boyfriend more after another kiss. a big baby, always wanting to be close to you. (dying rn)
hyunjin ୨୧ he is such a romantic guy. when it comes to pda, i think he's definitely very touchy. in a good way; he might be back-hugging you, resting his chin on your head or shoulder, or leaving a ghost of a kiss at the back of your neck, under your hairline. probably also likes if your fingers are intertwined too, with him kissing your knuckles. he will not leave your side, at all !!!!!!!!! you're like his personal lucky charm. maybe during a break from practice, he'll be showing you the new choreo and maybe even teaching it to you so you to try it.. but i bet the two of you will get carried away, and will either be making out very intimately or start ballroom-dancing while giggling like elementary kids. he really loves you and will show it every minute !!

it starts with a dull ache in your lower abdomen, the kind that makes sitting through lectures feel like an olympic sport. your mood swings follow shortly after, along with an unshakable craving for chocolate. by the time you make it back to your shared apartment with your boyfriend, you're ready to flop onto the couch and disappear into a blanket cocoon.
your boyfriend in question, raises an eyebrow when he sees you shuffle through the door like a defeated sims character. "rough day?" he deadpans, his voice laced with sarcasm.
you groan in response, dropping your miffy tote that he had gotten for you merely two weeks earlier; kicking off your shoes with a dramatic flair. "i'm dying," you announce, flopping onto the couch face-first. "just let me perish here in peace."
he snorts, closing his laptop and setting it aside. "what's the cause of death this time? bad grade? forgot to take your charger? or is it the apocalypse of your own making?"
you flip over and glare at him, your energy too drained for a proper retort. "you’re walking a very thin line, kim seungmin. keyword, very."
that gets his attention. his teasing expression softens, and he stands up, walking over to you. "ah," he says simply, sitting down on the edge of the couch. "that explains why you’ve been texting me in all caps about chocolate and why you cursed out a squirrel this morning."
"i still stand by that," you reply, crossing your arms. "that squirrel was judging me."
seungmin rolls his eyes but can’t hide the small smile tugging at his lips. he nudges you gently. "move over."
you grumble but comply, scooting over so he can sit beside you. he throws a knitted blanket that was earlier draped on the side of the couch, over both of you and settles in, his arm casually slung over the back of the couch.
"what do you need? heating pad? snacks? my undivided attention to watch you be dramatic?"
"another retort and you're gonna be-"
"begging for mercy? your highness, i am so deeply sorry to have offended you in this state of-"
"you're insufferable."
"and yet, here i am, ready to be your personal butler," he smirks, leaning back like he’s got all the time in the world. "...your highness." he adds.
"tell me what you want, and i'll think about it."
"actually, on second thought, don't. stay here, i'll be back in the speed of sound."
"it's said as the speed of light."
"too bad i'm not a science major. now you," he leaned in to press a soft kiss on the temple of your head, before patting the top and standing up, draping the blanket over you once more. "..stay here, with all your miffy plushies, and watch some tv. i'll be quick, okay?"
Tumblr media
ten minutes.
it had been only ten minutes since he had gone, and then that was when you heard the familiar rattling of keys from the doorstep.
he stepped inside, balancing two loaded grocery bags of goodies and what not. his eyes flicked over you with a keen, knowing look. your cheeks were puffed, a tell-tale sign of bloating, and the slightly pinched expression on your face made his heart tug.
"i told you to stay seated."
"i had to change, mister." you shrugged.
"so that's the excuse for wearing my hoodie? again?" he remarked, raising an eyebrow as he placed the bags on the table. "did i leave anything behind that you haven't stolen?"
you got up from the couch with a dramatic groan. "i don’t steal, i borrow."
"you mean like how pirates 'borrow' treasure?" he said, shrugging off his jacket. “how’s your mood? should i brace for impact or am i safe for now?"
you shot him a glare, but it lacked heat. "hey!"
"sorry, sorry," his lips twitched, but instead of firing back, he reached for your waist, his cold fingers brushing against your arms. his touch was both gentle and grounding. "is it getting worse?"
the softness in his voice melted your defenses immediately. you sighed, leaning your head against his shoulder as he held you tightly in his arms. "i hate this. i feel gross and tired and…" you trailed off with a wave of your free hand.
he squeezed your hand. "and?"
"hungry," you whispered.
he smirked, his teasing demeanor slipping back into place. "lucky for you, i come bearing gifts." he reached into the bag, pulling out your favorites—chocolate, a lot of chips, and the sacred comfort food: ramen.
he waved them in front of your face. "all for the lady, thanks to her knight in shining armor."
you made grabby hands immediately, eyes lightening up. "gimme."
"what do we say?"
"seungmin, i will literally punch you and have zero remorse, right now."
"eh.. i doubt that. but i'd love to see you try, darling."
. . .
just as you were about to go for his hair, he laughed, surrendering the snacks. "alright, alright. eat your feelings, grumpy little gremlin."
"what did you just call me?" you cringed.
"a gremlin?"
"you've been spending way too much time with felix."
Tumblr media
"what's with the face?" he asks, sitting back down. "i’m not a monster, you know. i have my moments."
"rare moments," you quip, taking a bite of the chocolate.
he rolls his eyes again but doesn't argue. instead, he adjusts the heating pad and plugs it in, gently placing it against your lower abdomen. the warmth is instant, and you let out a content sigh.
"better?" he asks, his tone softer now.
"better," you admit, giving him a small smile.
the two of you settle into a comfortable silence, the kind that only comes with years of friendship and understanding. seungmin picks up the tv remote, scrolling through options before landing on a rom-com you secretly adore but would never admit to liking.
"really?" you tease. "i didn’t peg you for a rom-com guy."
he shrugs, his expression carefully neutral. "i’m not. but you are. and you’re unbearable when you’re bored, so consider this a self-preservation tactic."
your heart does a little flip at his words, even if he disguises them in sarcasm. you lean against him, your head resting on his shoulder. he stiffens for a second but quickly relaxes, letting you get comfortable.
"you’re not so bad," you murmur, your voice barely audible over the movie’s opening scene.
he glances at you, his features softening in the dim light of the screen. "don’t get used to it," he says, though there’s no real bite in his words.
the rest of the evening passes in a haze of warmth and quiet companionship. at some point, seungmin shifts, pulling you closer so you’re practically curled up against him. his arm drapes around your shoulders, his thumb absentmindedly tracing circles on your abdomen, slightly massaging.
you sat in comfortable silence, with the distant hum of the tv, for a few moments as you tore into a bag of tortilla chips, the faint outline of the heatpad that he had prepared resting on your abdomen, visible. seungmin watched you with a fondness he rarely let anyone else see.
he wasn’t one to be overly affectionate in public, always opting for sarcasm and well-placed retorts instead of grand gestures. but here, with you curled up against him, he let his softer side surface.
"do you need some tea or water?" he asked after a while, brushing a few stray strands of your hair away from your face.
you nodded, too busy munching to reply.
he stood with a sigh, muttering under his breath. "you’re such a queen, making me do all the work."
"you fucker- you literally just admitted to being a 'knight in shining armor' and 'butler' like less than half an hour ago!" you called after him.
"okay, easy with the language, sailor," he raised his hands in defence, 'i take it, it's still terrible?" he frowned, looking into your eyes.
"not as bad as earlier though, thanks to you." you grin.
"...and the mood switches.. you're scary."
. . .
by the time he returned with two cups of freshly brewed chamomile tea, you had sunk deeper into the beige couch, looking more like a cozy lump than a person. he handed it to you and sat back down, pulling your feet into his lap.
"thank you," you murmured, being handed the floral teacup in your hand.
he nodded, rubbing small circles, giving slight pressure at certain points into your calves, trying to ease your pain. "don’t mention it."
a comfortable lull settled over you two again. you closed your eyes, letting the pain and discomfort ebb away under his gentle touch.
"you know," he said suddenly, "if you just stopped having a uterus, this wouldn’t be a problem."
"oh, brilliant. now why didn’t i think of that?" you rolled your eyes. "but now that i think of it, it might give rise to someone else's problems, not affecting me though." you spoke with an innocent grin on your face.
he stared at you, unable to understand for a hot second. until it came to him- and you could swear you saw his ears shading crimson.
"wow, you're so thoughtful." he murmurs, catching your hand before you could hit him again and holding it tight. "you’re so violent."
"you’re so annoying."
"and yet, here we are," he quipped, threading his fingers through yours.
you squeezed his hand. "here we are."
for a moment, neither of you spoke. the late afternoon light streamed through the windows, casting a golden glow over your intertwined hands.
seungmin looked down at you, the usual sarcastic smirk replaced with something softer, quieter. "i know it sucks," he murmured. "but you’re doing great. you’re strong. and i’ll be here… even if you eat all my hoodies and make me buy half the store every month."
your lips quirked. "you’re the best, you know that?"
"as if it wasn't obvious," he deadpanned. "but it’s nice to hear it."

the bathroom was dimly lit, a warm amber glow from the candles flickering against the soft ripples of the bathwater. hyunjin sat behind his girlfriend, his long arms wrapped securely around her waist as they sank into the warmth of the tub. steam curled lazily upward, carrying the scent of lavender bath salts that he’d carefully chosen to help her relax.
"you did so well," he murmured, his lips brushing lightly against the curve of her shoulder. his voice was soft, yet tired, warm, and filled with awe. "so beautiful, my girl."
she leaned her head back against his chest, her wet hair sticking slightly to his skin. she couldn’t help but squint her eyes and make a cringed expression at the constant dialogue. “babe, hyune, you’ve said that like, ten times already.”
“because i mean it,” he insisted, his brows knitting together in faux seriousness. he shifted slightly, tucking her closer against him. "but clearly, my gorgeous girlfriend doesn't care and love her wonderful boyfriend enough to appreciate praises," his hands roamed lazily over her arms, tracing delicate patterns with his fingertips as he dramatically sighed, as if straight out of a shakespearean school-play. however, his gentle tone moved to a more worried one. “i should’ve been gentler. was it too much? did i hurt you?” his voice dropped to a whisper, tinged with guilt.
she turned her head slightly, craning her neck to look at him. his dark eyes searched hers with a vulnerability that tugged at her heart. “hyunjin,” she said, her voice firm but kind, “you didn’t hurt me. i liked it.” her lips curved into a mischievous smile. “a lot, actually.”
his cheeks flushed a deep red, and he buried his face into the crook of her neck with a groan. “don’t say things like that,” he mumbled, his breath tickling her skin. “i’ll combust.”
“you’re the one who asked!” she teased, her laughter bouncing off the tiled bathroom walls.
he pulled back just enough to meet her gaze, a playful pout on his pink lips. “i’m serious. i felt like i went too far. you’re precious to me, y/n. i just—” he trailed off, his voice catching slightly as his eyes softened. “i don’t ever want to hurt you.”
y/n reached up to cup his face, her thumb brushing over the sharp line of his cheekbone. “love, you were perfect,” she assured him, her tone gentle. “i promise. stop worrying, okay?”
his lips quirked into a small smile, and he turned his head to press a kiss to her palm. “okay,” he murmured. but a beat later, he was nuzzling her again, his lips ghosting over the shell of her ear. “still, you’re incredible. i don’t deserve you.”
“oh, stop,” she groaned, though her cheeks were pink with his relentless compliments. she reached back to poke his ribs, making him squirm and laugh. “one more, and i'm gonna leave you alone in the tub.”
hyunjin caught her hand in his, lacing their fingers together as he brought them to his lips. “pfft, as if you'd do that,” he said simply, his tone teasing but tender. “you love me too much, plus you're liking it.”
y/n shook her head, biting back a grin. “you’re delusional.”
“is it so wrong to be obsessed with your girlfriend?” he quipped, leaning in to press a soft kiss to her temple. his free hand moved to trace along her collarbone, his touch feather-light. “but really,” he whispered, his tone dropping to something more intimate. “you did so well, y/n. i’m so proud of you.”
her heart skipped a beat at his words, warmth blooming in her chest. “hyunjin,” she murmured, her voice quieter now, almost shy.
“hmm?” he tilted his head, brushing his nose against her damp hair.
“thank you,” she said softly, turning slightly to face him. “for always making me feel loved.”
his expression melted into one of pure adoration, and he cupped her cheek, his thumb stroking over her skin. “always,” he vowed. “you’re everything to me.”
the moment hung between them, tender and fragile, before y/n broke it with a cheeky grin. “you know, for someone who claims he doesn’t deserve me, you’re awfully good at making me feel like a queen.”
hyunjin threw his head back with a laugh, his chest rumbling against her back. “well, you are,” he said, pressing a quick, playful kiss to the tip of her nose. “so get used to it.”
“hey!” she squealed, laughing as he tightened his arms around her and kissed her cheek repeatedly.
the two dissolved into a fit of giggles, their laughter filling the cozy space. when they finally calmed, hyunjin rested his chin on her shoulder, his arms still securely around her. “i’m so lucky,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
“yeah, you are,” y/n teased, leaning back against him with a contented sigh.
hyunjin chuckled, his breath warm against her skin. “my girl,” he whispered again, the words a soft promise.

the stadium buzzed with energy. fans cheered from the stands, their banners and lightsticks waving furiously in the air. idols lounged around the arena, some chatting, others stretching or preparing for their events. the scent of popcorn mixed with the sharp chill of air conditioning filled the space. for most, the atmosphere was electric, but for y/n, it felt suffocating.
the group had been seated together, enjoying their short break between the isac activities. y/n sat sandwiched between jisung and hyunjin, her laughter earlier blending effortlessly with theirs. however, as the minutes ticked by, her breaths grew shorter, and her chest tightened. she clutched her hands in her lap, nails digging into her palms as her vision blurred slightly, while she saw her name on the large digital screen appear, outlining that she was up soon.
“hey, you okay?” hyunjin’s voice cut through her spiraling thoughts. his gaze, once playful, now sharpened with concern as he noticed her trembling hands.
y/n nodded quickly, though her body betrayed her words. she tried to speak, to reassure him, but the words caught in her throat. the overwhelming noise, the bright lights, the sheer volume of people—it all crashed down on her like a tidal wave.
“y/n?” jisung asked, leaning closer. his usually carefree demeanor shifted as he saw the panic etched across her face. without hesitation, he reached for her hand. "breathe. hey, look at me. breathe."
but her breaths came faster, more shallow. hyunjin immediately stood, scanning the area. “where’s seungmin?” he demanded, his voice steady but urgent.
“he’s with changbin and felix,” jisung replied, already looking around. “he went to grab snacks or something.”
“find him. now.” hyunjin gently squeezed y/n’s shoulder. “it’s okay, we’ve got you. just hold on.”
y/n’s hand clung to hyunjin's as though it were a lifeline, her nails digging into his skin. the pressure was grounding, but it wasn’t enough. her mind spiraled further, her heart racing painfully in her chest.
“seungmin!” jisung called across the arena, catching the attention of jeongin, who pointed toward a corner where seungmin stood, casually chatting with felix. without another word, he sprinted toward him.
seungmin laughed at something felix said, his focus entirely on their conversation, until he saw hyunjin weaving through the crowd like a man on a mission. his brows furrowed as jisung approached, slightly out of breath.
“y/n,” hyunjin panted, his tone clipped. “she needs you.”
seungmin’s face fell. he didn’t waste a second, turning on his heel and rushing toward their group. felix called after him, concerned, but seungmin’s mind was already racing.
when seungmin arrived, he found y/n still clutching hyunjin's hand, her face pale and streaked with silent tears. the sight made his heart ache. he knelt in front of her without hesitation, gently placing his hands over hers, as the other two left the pair.
“hey, baby, it’s me,” he said softly, his voice cutting through the chaos of her mind like a warm blanket. “it’s seungmin. can you hear me?”
her glassy eyes flicked to him, desperation etched across her features, as she nodded slightly, her body shaking. seungmin gave her a small, reassuring smile, his warm fingers lacing her cold ones. “you’re okay. i’m here now. breathe with me, alright?”
he released one of her hands to gently place his on her cheek, his thumb brushing away a stray tear. “in through your nose,” he coached, taking a slow, exaggerated breath for her to mimic. “out through your mouth. that’s it.”
the world around them seemed to blur as seungmin focused entirely on her. his voice remained calm, steady, grounding her as she slowly followed his lead.
“you’re safe,” he whispered, leaning closer so she could hear him over the noise. “i’ve got you.”
gradually, her breaths steadied, the tightness in her chest loosening as she anchored herself to him. seungmin’s unwavering presence, his familiar scent, the warmth of his hand—it all brought her back.
when her trembling subsided, seungmin pulled her gently into his arms, shielding her from the few curious gazes around them. “you did so well,” he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. “i’m so proud of you.”
“don't worry okay? i'm right here,”
y/n buried her face in his shoulder, her hands clutching at his jacket. “i-i’m sorry,” she managed, her voice shaky and hoarse.
“don’t apologize,” he said firmly but tenderly. “you have nothing to be sorry for. these things happen, and it’s okay. i’m here for you.”
jisung and hyunjin, who had been far yet hovering anxiously, relaxed slightly at the sight of her calming down. they exchanged a relieved glance, stepping back to give the couple space again while still keeping watch.
seungmin stayed with her, holding her close and murmuring words of comfort until she felt ready to lift her head. his eyes met hers, full of love and concern. “do you want to leave? we can go somewhere quieter.”
y/n hesitated but eventually nodded. the arena still felt too overwhelming. seungmin helped her to her feet, keeping a protective arm around her shoulders as they made their way toward a quieter corner backstage.
once they were alone, seungmin guided her to sit on a bench, crouching in front of her again. “better?” he asked gently, opening her a bottle of water and prompting it to her lips.
she nodded, their fingers brushing as she took the bottle and gulped a bit, though her eyes still shimmered with unshed tears. “thank you,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
he smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “you don’t have to thank me. i’ll always be here for you, y/n.”
the sincerity in his voice made her chest ache—not from panic this time, but from the overwhelming warmth of his love. she reached out, tangling her fingers with his. “i love you.”
seungmin’s smile widened, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “i love you more,” he replied, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to her forehead. “more than you’ll ever know.”

the first thing you notice is warmth. not the kind that wakes you up in a sweat, but the kind that lulls you into staying—into sinking deeper under the covers where his scent lingers, where his presence is heavy and real.
your boyfriend is still beside you, half-buried in the blanket, one arm thrown lazily over your waist. his hair is a mess, tufts of brown sticking up in unruly directions, and his lips are parted slightly, a soft breath escaping with every rise and fall of his chest. he’s warm. solid. here.
you barely remember how last night ended—just flashes of laughter, his teasing remarks that made your stomach twist, the way he pressed a lazy kiss to your forehead before pulling you down beside him. the details blur, but this moment is sharp, etched into the quiet glow of morning.
soon enough, you heard a soft groan. looks like he was up early, too.
“good morning,” he murmurs, voice rough with sleep, rasping against the quiet like a melody only the morning gets to hear.
the golden light spilling through the window drapes across his face, tracing every sharp plane and soft curve as if the sun itself is enamored by him. shadows gather in the hollows of his cheeks, the slope of his nose, the gentle dip above his cupid’s bow. his lips are slightly parted, still kiss-bitten from the night before, and his lashes—long, delicate—flutter lazily as he blinks against the glow of dawn.
his hair is a tousled mess, strands falling over his forehead in an artless way that makes him look even softer, like something meant to be admired in the quiet hours between dreaming and waking. the light catches in his dark eyes, turning them into liquid gold, flecks of amber igniting within the deep brown. sleep lingers in them, slow and heavy, but there’s warmth too—something tender, something just for you.
he looks like a painting, half-finished, caught between shadow and sunlight, between sleep and consciousness. and when he turns to you, lips quirking up just slightly, eyes lidded with drowsy affection, you think the morning has never been more beautiful.
“are you done staring, pretty?”
“your morning voice is so hot.”
it slips out before you can think twice, your voice still drowsy, thick with sleep. you’re staring at him, at the way the first rays of light filter through the window, casting golden lines across his bare shoulder. he blinks once, slowly, before turning his head toward you.
then he laughs. a deep, husky sound, slightly raspy, like the remnants of sleep still cling to his throat. “what?”
you hum, inching closer, pressing your palm against his chest where his heartbeat drums steadily beneath your fingertips. “i said… your morning voice is hot.”
his lips twitch—amusement flickering through the sleepiness in his gaze. “did you wake up just to thirst over me?”
you grin, fingers tracing idle shapes against his skin. “maybe.”
seungmin exhales a laugh, shaking his head, but he doesn’t pull away. if anything, his grip on you tightens, his arm curling more securely around your waist, fingers pressing into your back like he needs to hold you there. his warmth seeps into you, and you find yourself slipping further into him, into this softness he rarely shows to anyone else.
“you’re ridiculous,” he murmurs, voice still gravelly, still unfairly attractive.
“and you love me,” you counter, tilting your chin up to look at him.
his gaze meets yours, dark eyes holding something quieter, something deeper. he doesn’t say it—not right now. but you feel it in the way he shifts, in the way he tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, in the way his lips brush against your temple, slow and deliberate.
his touch lingers, fingers trailing down the side of your face, ghosting over your jaw before settling beneath your chin. he tilts your face up just enough for his lips to catch against yours, a soft, teasing press, barely there.
“you’re so clingy in the mornings,” he muses, voice lower now, warm against your mouth.
you scoff, but it comes out breathy when he kisses you again, firmer this time—less teasing, more intent. his lips part against yours, and you sigh into it, letting him deepen the kiss, letting yourself melt into the lazy pull of morning, the way his hands skim over your skin like he’s mapping you out all over again.
somewhere between the kisses, between the way he tugs you closer like he can’t stand even a sliver of distance, you murmur, “i should tell you your voice is hot more often, then.”
seungmin exhales another laugh against your lips, and it’s the best sound you’ve heard all morning.
“my lips feel lonely.” he spoke.
“yeah?” you murmur, lips quirking. “tragic. truly.”
seungmin hums, lazy amusement curling at the edges of his mouth. his fingers tighten around your waist, slipping beneath the fabric of your—his—shirt, tracing absentminded circles against your skin. his hands are warm, just a little rough, and the feeling sends a pleasant shiver down your spine.
“you could fix it,”
you raise a brow, feigning contemplation. “hmm. i could.”
his thumb drags slowly over your hipbone, and your resolve weakens by the second. you swear he knows it, too, because that smirk is growing—sleepy, teasing, stupidly attractive.
“but should i?” you continue, tilting your head. “i mean, you were making fun of me just now. you don’t deserve my generosity.”
seungmin scoffs, lips brushing your temple again. “you just called my voice hot. i think you’ve lost all your rights to act indifferent.”
you narrow your eyes, pressing your palm flat against his chest. “i can get them back.”
“mm, sure. go ahead.” he exhales a quiet laugh, nuzzling into the crook of your neck like he has all the time in the world. his voice dips into something softer, something closer to a whisper. “but you won’t.”
and you won’t. because he’s right here, warm and solid, pressed against you like he belongs there.
you sigh, tilting your chin up just enough to brush your lips against his jaw. “you’re mean.”
“you love me.”
“yeah, yeah.”
“then help my lips.”
your breath catches when he tightens his hold, pulling you even closer until your noses are barely apart, until his lips graze yours in the laziest, most infuriating tease. his gaze flickers down to your mouth—slow, deliberate—before returning to your eyes, dark with something knowing.
“see?” he murmurs. “clingy.”
“shut up,” you mutter, before finally closing the gap.
it starts slow, like the morning, like the warmth lingering between the sheets. his lips are soft, warm, moving against yours in a way that makes your thoughts scatter. there’s no urgency, no rush—just the gentle push and pull of something familiar, something sweet.
and then seungmin tilts his head, deepens the kiss just slightly, and you melt.
your fingers tangle in his hair, tugging gently, and he groans into your mouth—a sound that sends heat curling through you. his hand slides up your back, pressing you flush against him, like he needs to feel every inch of you.
when you part for air, your breath stutters. seungmin’s eyes are heavy-lidded, lips just barely swollen, and he’s looking at you like he’s already thinking about kissing you again.
“feel better?” you ask, voice breathless.
he studies you for a second, gaze flickering between your lips and your eyes, before dragging his thumb over the curve of your mouth.
“not yet.”
and then he’s kissing you again, deeper this time, pulling you right back into him like the morning is endless.

y/n had always been a walking ray of sunshine. the way she bounded into the university cafeteria every morning, beaming like she had a personal spotlight, made her an unmissable presence. today was no different. with her hair loosely tied into a messy ponytail and a bright yellow cardigan that made her look like spring personified, she wove through the crowd, waving at familiar faces and exchanging cheerful hellos.
"felix!" she called out, spotting her blond-haired best friend at their usual table. felix turned around with an amused grin, holding a tray piled precariously with food.
"you look like you're auditioning for a yogurt commercial,"
"and you'd be the overworked single dad in the background trying to keep me away from sugary snacks," she shot back, grabbing one of the croissants from his tray.
behind them, hyunjin sauntered in, looking like he had just stepped off the cover of a fashion magazine. he rolled his eyes at their banter, brushing his long hair out of his face. "can you two stop flirting for two seconds? some of us are trying to exist without getting cavities."
felix and y/n gasped in mock offense simultaneously.
"hyun, i'm wounded," y/n said, clutching her chest. "this is friendship, okay? try it sometime."
"not when it looks like a rom-com b-plot," hyunjin deadpanned, sliding into his seat.
as rina and aeri joined the group, the table quickly became a hub of laughter and noise, with jokes flying left and right.
across the room, someone, was watching.
well, watching was a strong word. more like…occasionally glancing up from his laptop. he had a prime spot at the far end of the cafeteria, where he could quietly work on his assignments. most of the time, the noise didn’t bother him. but y/n’s voice had a way of cutting through every other sound—bright, melodic, and so unapologetically full of life.
"you're staring again."
jisung’s teasing voice broke through seungmin’s thoughts. he looked up to see his friend grinning at him from across the table.
"i’m not staring," seungmin said flatly, returning to his notes.
"you’re staring," jeongin chimed in, smirking as he leaned over to snag one of jisung’s fries. "it’s okay, though. we all know you have a soft spot for the sunshine girl."
seungmin shot them both a withering look. "she’s loud. that’s all."
"loud and cute," jisung added. "don’t worry, man. it’s endearing."
before seungmin could retort, y/n’s voice rang out across the cafeteria again, this time much closer.
"seungmin!"
he froze. sure enough, there she was, skipping toward their table like she had all the time in the world.
"why do you guys always sit here by yourselves?" she asked, plopping down in the seat next to him before he could say a word. her friends trailed behind her, chatting amongst themselves but clearly amused by her antics.
"because it’s quiet," seungmin replied, his tone clipped.
"not anymore," jisung whispered, earning a glare from seungmin.
y/n didn’t seem to notice the tension. she leaned over, peering at his laptop screen. "what are you working on?"
"a paper."
"what’s it about?"
seungmin sighed. "you wouldn’t understand."
"oh, come on! try me," she said, resting her chin on her hand and giving him her full attention.
"it’s about the correlation between music theory applications and cognitive development," he said, hoping to scare her off with the overly academic phrasing.
y/n blinked. then she grinned. "that’s so cool! do you think it’s true? like, do people who understand music better think differently?"
seungmin blinked, caught off guard by her genuine curiosity. "well…yes," he admitted. "there’s some evidence that it improves problem-solving skills."
"see? you can explain it in normal-person language," y/n teased, nudging his arm.
the table erupted into laughter, and seungmin fought the urge to roll his eyes. but when he glanced at y/n, her smile was so warm and sincere that he felt his annoyance melt away just a little.
maybe she wasn’t so bad.
"careful, seungmin," jisung whispered. "you might actually start enjoying her company."
"shut it."

it was an overcast morning, the kind where the sky seemed to hold its breath, and the world below carried on in muted anticipation. y/n strolled into her economics lecture, her wavy black hair bouncing slightly as she adjusted the strap of her tote bag. her signature energy had dimmed slightly today; the clouds seemed to tug at her mood, though she masked it well with her usual bright smile.
the lecture hall was buzzing with the chatter of students, most of whom were busy complaining about their upcoming projects. y/n spotted felix waving at her from their usual spot near the back, and she hurried over, plopping into the seat beside him.
“late night again?” felix teased, nudging her with his shoulder.
“guilty,” y/n admitted, stifling a yawn. “i was helping rina practice her speech. you know how she gets—everything has to be perfect.”
felix chuckled. “you’re too nice for your own good.”
before y/n could respond, the professor—a middle-aged man with a perpetually frazzled look—strode into the room, carrying a stack of papers. he set them down with a heavy sigh, silencing the room.
“all right, everyone, settle down. as you know, your mid-semester project accounts for 30% of your grade.”
groans rippled through the room, but y/n straightened in her seat, already scribbling notes.
“i’ll be assigning you partners,” the professor continued, his tone leaving no room for negotiation. “the goal is to analyze a real-world economic issue and present a comprehensive report. you’ll have three weeks to complete it.”
y/n exchanged a quick glance with felix, who smirked. “bet you’ll get stuck with someone boring,” he whispered.
“or worse,” y/n whispered back, “someone who doesn’t do their share of the work.”
the professor began calling out names, pairing students at random. y/n listened intently, silently hoping she’d be paired with someone easygoing.
“…kim seungmin and y/n l/n.”
well that wasn't surprising.
her head snapped up.
“seungmin?” she repeated under her breath, her eyes darting toward the other side of the lecture hall.
sure enough, there he was, seated near the front with his usual straight-backed posture and composed expression. he didn’t even look her way, just calmly noted down her name in his notebook.
felix snickered. “good luck. maybe you’ll finally break through his ice-cold demeanor.”
y/n gave him a playful glare before gathering her things and heading down the steps toward seungmin.
as she approached, he glanced up, his dark eyes meeting hers with the faintest hint of surprise.
“hey, partner,” she said cheerfully, trying to ignore the slight knot in her stomach. “looks like we’re stuck together for this one.”
“seems so,” he replied, his tone neutral.
his face, as always, was unreadable. his neatly styled hair and pressed shirt made him look effortlessly put-together, a stark contrast to y/n’s cozy cardigan and slightly scuffed sneakers.
“do you have time to discuss this today?” she asked. “there’s this cafe near campus where—”
“i know the one,” he interrupted. “it’s fine. let’s meet there at two.”
“great!” y/n said, her smile unwavering. “i’ll see you then.”
as the economics lecture had ended, seungmin packed up his belongings with his usual efficiency, slinging his bag over his shoulder. as he stepped out into the corridor, he was immediately intercepted by jisung, who was grinning like he’d just discovered the world’s funniest secret.
“so…” jisung began, falling into step beside him.
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “so what?”
“you’re partnered with her,” jisung said, practically vibrating with glee.
“who’s her?” jeongin chimed in, suddenly appearing at seungmin’s other side.
“y/n,” jisung answered, dragging out her name dramatically.
jeongin’s eyes widened, his lips curling into a knowing smirk. “the sunshine girl? the one who makes it her life’s mission to befriend everyone?”
“that’s the one,” jisung confirmed, nudging seungmin with his elbow. “how does it feel to be the chosen one?”
seungmin rolled his eyes, exhaling sharply. “it’s just a project. we’ll get it done, and that’s it.”
ryujin and yuna joined the group then, ryujin immediately catching onto the conversation. “what’s this about?” she asked, her sharp gaze darting between them.
“seungmin got paired with y/n for the econ project,” jeongin supplied, clearly enjoying the situation.
ryujin’s eyebrows shot up. “y/n? oh, this is going to be good.”
“why?” seungmin asked, his tone exasperated.
“because she’s basically your polar opposite,” yuna said, her voice light with amusement. “you avoid people; she attracts them. you’re all about efficiency; she probably spends half her time doodling in her notebooks.”
“you’re underestimating her,” yeji chimed in, catching up to the group. “she’s actually really smart. i’ve seen her in class—she’s not just about the bubbly personality.”
seungmin shot her a look of mild surprise but said nothing.
“still,” jisung said, grinning, “i can’t wait to see how this goes. who knows? maybe she’ll finally melt that ice-cold heart of yours.”
seungmin sighed. “can you all find something else to talk about?”
“not a chance,” jeongin said, and the group dissolved into laughter as they walked toward the campus courtyard.
meanwhile, y/n practically skipped out of the lecture hall, her usual energy returning in full force. she immediately spotted felix, hyunjin, rina, and aeri waiting for her near the lockers.
“well?” felix asked as soon as she approached. “who’s the lucky partner?”
“seungmin,” y/n announced, pulling her bag strap higher on her shoulder.
the group collectively froze.
“seungmin? kim seungmin?” hyunjin said, his voice dripping with disbelief.
“yup,” y/n replied, popping the “p” as she leaned against the locker.
“oh my god,” rina said, covering her mouth with her hand. “the seungmin like the class ace?”
“mr. perfectly composed,” aeri added, folding her arms. “how did that happen?”
y/n shrugged, a playful smile tugging at her lips. “guess the universe thought it’d be fun to put a sunshine and a storm cloud together.”
“do you think he’s annoyed?” felix asked, tilting his head thoughtfully.
“probably,” y/n said with a laugh. “but it’s not like i’m going to let that stop me.”
“i can already picture it,” hyunjin said, his tone dripping with melodrama. “you’ll be all smiles and rainbows, and he’ll sit there glaring at you like you’re the bane of his existence.”
“that’s probably accurate,” y/n admitted, giggling.
“you’re going to have to work hard to get through to him,” rina said. “he’s not exactly the easiest person to talk to.”
“challenge accepted,” y/n declared, holding up a fist in mock determination.
“just don’t overwhelm him,” aeri said, though her smile was teasing. “you have a tendency to… how do i put this… shine a little too brightly sometimes.”
“me? overwhelm someone?” y/n asked, feigning innocence.
“you’re very adamant.”
“but in the best way,” rina added.
“exactly,” y/n said, flashing them a grin. “now, if you’ll excuse me, i have a coffee date with mr. storm cloud.”
“good luck,” hyunjin called after her as she walked away.
“you’re going to need it!” felix added, laughing.
the air in the cafe was warm and inviting, a stark contrast to the dreary gray of the day outside. golden light spilled through the large glass windows, painting soft highlights on the oak furniture and the framed watercolor prints lining the walls. the hum of a coffee machine harmonized with the low murmur of conversations and the occasional clink of ceramic cups.
seungmin sat near the window, his usual spot, with his arms folded and a faintly bored expression on his face. the green hue of his matcha latte swirled lazily in the mug in front of him, its foam dusted with a delicate sprinkle of matcha powder. his laptop was open, the screen already filled with meticulously organized notes for their project.
he glanced at his watch, exhaling quietly. she was late.
by two minutes.
before he could think too much about it, the cafe door opened with a cheerful chime, letting in a rush of cool air and the familiar sound of her voice.
“there you are!” y/n called, her energy somehow brighter than the café’s lighting. she waved at him, her tote bag bouncing against her side as she weaved through the tables to reach him.
“you’re late,” seungmin said flatly as she slid into the seat across from him.
“by like, two minutes,” she countered, flashing him a grin that could disarm a storm.
y/n dropped her tote bag onto the floor and leaned forward, her gaze falling on the mug in front of him. “is that a matcha latte?”
“...yes?”
her eyes widened, and she clasped her hands together dramatically. “i did not peg you as a matcha person. you just became ten times more interesting.”
seungmin raised an eyebrow, his fingers drumming lightly against the table. “and what exactly did you peg me as?”
“black coffee,” she said instantly, as if it were obvious. “you know, something bitter and unapproachable.”
“i don’t know whether to be offended or impressed by how specific that was,” he said dryly.
“take it as a compliment,” she said, waving her hand. “anyway, i’m getting one too. be right back!”
before seungmin could respond, she was already bouncing toward the counter, her black, wavy hair swishing behind her. he watched as she gestured animatedly while ordering, her voice carrying faintly over the café’s soft playlist.
when she returned, she was balancing a matcha latte in one hand and a plate of cookies in the other. she set them down with a flourish, her eyes sparkling.
“now we match,” she said, nodding at their identical drinks.
seungmin stared at her for a moment, then shook his head. “do you ever run out of energy?”
“nope!” she chirped, taking a sip of her latte. “i thrive on optimism, caffeine, and sheer determination.”
he gave her a look that bordered on disbelief. “that explains a lot.”
“what’s that supposed to mean?” she asked, leaning forward with mock offense.
“it means,” he began, leaning back in his chair, “that you’re probably the kind of person who volunteers for everything, stays up too late, and takes on way more than you can handle.”
y/n blinked at him, caught off guard by how accurate he was.
“before you ask, let’s just say you’re not exactly subtle,”
“well,” she said, recovering quickly, “you’re not exactly a mystery, either.”
“oh?” he said, crossing his arms. “do tell.”
“you’re the guy who avoids people but secretly observes everything,” she said, counting off on her fingers. “you’re the top of our class, duh—overachiever, for sure—but you act like you don’t care about grades. and you definitely judge people silently.”
he stared at her, one corner of his mouth twitching. “not bad.”
“see? i’m not subtle, but i’m perceptive,” she said triumphantly, taking another sip of her latte.
seungmin sighed, shaking his head. “this is going to be a long three weeks.”
“oh, come on,” she said, grinning. “admit it. you’re at least a little glad we’re working together.”
“i’d rather drink bitter, unapproachable black coffee for three weeks straight,” he deadpanned.
y/n burst out laughing, drawing a few amused glances from the other tables. “you’re funny when you’re grumpy, you know that?”
“i’m not grumpy,” he said, though his tone suggested otherwise.
“sure you’re not,” she teased, pulling out her notebook and flipping it open. “okay, mr. matcha-latte-is-my-personality, let’s get to work.”
for the next hour, they hashed out ideas for their project, their conversation an entertaining mix of intellectual debate and playful banter. y/n’s colorful pens danced across the pages of her notebook, while seungmin’s precise typing filled the spaces in between.
“wait,” y/n said suddenly, tapping her pen against her chin. “what if we include a survey? like, ask people why they prefer local coffee shops over big chains?”
seungmin looked at her, slightly impressed despite himself. “that’s actually… a good idea.”
“see?” she said, beaming. “teamwork makes the dream work.”
he rolled his eyes but didn’t disagree.
as they packed up their things, y/n looked at him thoughtfully. “you know, you’re not as scary as people think.”
“and you’re more tolerable than i expected,” he replied, slinging his bag over his shoulder.
“aw, was that a compliment?” she teased, walking beside him toward the door.
“don’t push your luck,” he said, holding the door open for her.
such a gentleman.
Tumblr media
the next day, seungmin found himself back at the same corner table of the cafe, his laptop open, and his fingers resting lightly on the keyboard. he had arrived early again, and his usual matcha latte sat in its familiar spot, the faint green foam already starting to lose its swirl.
he glanced at his watch, fully expecting her to be a few minutes late again. sure enough, the door chimed exactly three minutes past the hour, and there she was.
“three minutes late,” seungmin remarked without looking up from his screen.
“consistent, aren’t i?” y/n chirped, setting her bag down with a thud and sliding into her seat across from him. her hair was loosely tied back today, a few stray curls framing her face.
seungmin’s lips twitched, almost imperceptibly. “consistently late isn’t something to be proud of.”
“agree to disagree,” she replied, pulling out her notebook and a handful of pens that were, unsurprisingly, color-coded.
her latte arrived shortly after, along with a croissant she ordered, and she immediately broke off a piece, offering it to him. “want some?”
“no.”
“suit yourself,” she said, popping the piece into her mouth and chewing thoughtfully. “so, where were we?”
“market analysis,” seungmin said, his tone all business as he turned his laptop to show her the data he had compiled.
the next hour passed in a surprisingly productive rhythm: y/n sketching out ideas with colorful diagrams and annotations, and seungmin structuring their findings into coherent sections. but, as always, their conversation veered off course every now and then.
“why are you so into matcha, anyway?” y/n asked at one point, leaning her chin on her hand.
seungmin paused, his fingers hovering over his keyboard. “it’s subtle. balanced. not overly sweet.”
“so, basically the opposite of me,” she quipped with a grin.
“exactly,” he said without missing a beat.
y/n laughed, the sound light and contagious. “you know, you’re a lot funnier than people give you credit for.”
“maybe people just don’t pay attention,” he replied, smirking slightly.
“or maybe you’re secretly a comedian and no one’s cracked the code yet,” she said, scribbling something in her notebook.
seungmin glanced at her notebook. “are you doodling again?”
“it’s brainstorming,” she said defensively, holding up the page. it was covered in little clouds and stars alongside bullet points about their project.
he sighed, though there was no real annoyance in it. “i don’t know how your brain works.”
“and yet,” she said with a wink, “here we are. perfectly balanced, like your precious matcha.”
Tumblr media
the cafe became their unofficial meeting spot, the hum of the espresso machines and the chatter of students forming a familiar backdrop to their study sessions.
each day followed a similar pattern. seungmin would arrive early, his notes already meticulously organized. y/n would burst in a few minutes late, full of energy and carrying an ever-changing assortment of pastries.
their conversations became less about the project and more about each other as the days passed.
“you were in the debate club in high school?” y/n asked one day, wide-eyed.
“briefly,” seungmin admitted, not looking up from his laptop.
“i can totally see it,” she said, nodding. “all calm and logical, probably tearing your opponents apart with facts and wit.”
“is that your way of saying i’m argumentative?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
“no, it’s my way of saying you’re scary smart,” she said, grinning.
he didn’t respond, but she noticed the faintest hint of color rise to his cheeks.
another day, y/n told him about her childhood. “i used to write letters to random people in the neighborhood,” she said, laughing at the memory. “just little notes, you know? telling them to have a great day or sharing a joke. my mom thought i was nuts.”
“that tracks,” seungmin said dryly, though there was a soft smile tugging at his lips.
by the end of the first week, their dynamic had settled into an easy rhythm. y/n’s chatter filled the spaces seungmin left, and his quick, witty remarks kept her on her toes.
one evening, as the cafe began to empty out, y/n looked at him thoughtfully. “you know, i think we’re not as different as we seem.”
seungmin glanced up, curious. “how so?”
“you act all cold and distant, but you’re actually super thoughtful,” she said, pointing her pen at him. “and i might seem like i’m all over the place, but i actually work really hard to make things perfect.”
he considered her words for a moment, then nodded. “maybe you’re right.”
“of course i am,” she said, smiling.
Tumblr media
the usual morning buzz of the café wrapped around y/n as she entered, her tote bag slung over her shoulder. the golden glow of the hanging lights reflected off her black curls as she scanned the room, finding their usual spot by the window empty. for once, she had beaten seungmin here.
sliding into the seat that was unofficially hers now, she set her things down and strolled to the counter. today, she had a plan.
“i’ll have a caramel macchiato,” she said brightly to the barista, “and—oh, a matcha latte as well. to go with it.”
the barista smiled, tapping the order into the screen. y/n hummed along with the soft café music as she waited, glancing toward the door every now and then. the matcha latte wasn’t for her—it was for him.
the drinks arrived quickly, and y/n carried them back to the table, placing the matcha latte on his side of the table with a satisfied nod. she had barely taken a sip of her macchiato when the café door chimed, and seungmin walked in.
he paused when he saw her sitting there, looking unusually early, sipping her drink and doodling in the margins of her notebook. his gaze flickered to the matcha latte already waiting on the table.
“you’re early,” he said as he approached, his voice as calm and measured as always.
“surprise,” she said cheerfully, lifting her drink in a mock toast. “and i got you this.” she nodded toward the matcha latte.
seungmin blinked, momentarily thrown off. he stared at the latte, then back at her. “you got me a matcha latte?”
“yep. extra foam, no sugar. that’s how you like it, right?” she said, her tone breezy.
his lips parted slightly in surprise, and for a split second, she thought he might actually smile. “you noticed that?”
y/n shrugged, trying to play it cool despite the rush of pride she felt. “well, we’ve been meeting here for over a week. i’d have to be pretty oblivious not to notice.”
seungmin slid into his seat, his expression carefully neutral. but the faintest trace of warmth flickered in his eyes as he picked up the cup. “thanks.”
“you’re welcome,” she said, grinning. “see? i can be thoughtful too.”
he rolled his eyes but took a sip, the familiar flavor calming him more than he cared to admit. “don’t let it go to your head.”
“too late,” she teased, leaning her chin on her hand.
they had just begun discussing their final outline when the café door opened again, letting in a gust of cool air and a burst of familiar voices.
“hey, isn’t that y/n?” ryujin’s voice rang out, loud enough to turn a few heads. she was flanked by yuna and yeji, with jisung and jeongin trailing behind. minho followed at a leisurely pace, his hands shoved into his pockets.
y/n waved them over, her face lighting up. “guys!”
seungmin groaned under his breath, already bracing himself for the chaos about to ensue.
ryujin reached the table first, her sharp eyes immediately landing on seungmin. “well, well. didn’t expect to see you here with y/n.”
“we’re working on a project,” seungmin said flatly, glancing at her with mild annoyance.
“sure you are,” ryujin said, smirking as she slid into the seat beside y/n.
yuna and yeji sat down on the other side of y/n, while jisung and jeongin squeezed into the remaining space. minho stayed standing, leaning casually against the back of seungmin’s chair.
“is that a matcha latte?” jisung asked, pointing at seungmin’s cup.
seungmin raised an eyebrow. “yes. is that a problem?”
“not at all,” jisung said with a grin. “just didn’t think you’d be into something so…trendy.”
“trendy?” seungmin repeated, his tone incredulous.
“leave him alone,” y/n interjected, swatting jisung lightly on the arm. “matcha is great, and seungmin has good taste.”
seungmin glanced at her, surprised by her defense. “thanks…i guess.”
the group erupted into teasing laughter, and seungmin groaned again, this time louder. “this is exactly why i don’t hang out with you people.”
“oh, come on, seungmin,” ryujin said, nudging his shoulder. “you secretly love us.”
“i really don’t,” he said, deadpan.
but even as the banter continued, y/n noticed the faintest smile tugging at the corners of his lips. it was fleeting, barely there—but it was enough.
as the conversation swirled around them, y/n leaned closer to him, her voice low enough for only him to hear. “see? it’s not so bad having company.”
he shot her a sideways glance, his expression unreadable. “you’re exhausting.”
“and yet, here you are,” she said with a wink.
seungmin didn’t reply, but he took another sip of his matcha latte, the warmth of the drink matching the faint warmth in his chest. maybe, just maybe, this wasn’t so bad after all.
the study session had gone by surprisingly smoothly, the usual mix of bickering and banter lightening the load of the project. the rest of their friends had left the café an hour ago, leaving y/n and seungmin to finish up the last few points of their outline in relative peace.
“so,” y/n began, stretching her arms over her head, “are we done for today?”
seungmin glanced at his notes, then at her. “i think so. unless you want to go over the market strategy again.”
“i’d rather not,” she said with a laugh, leaning back in her chair.
he closed his laptop with a soft click and stood up, slinging his bag over one shoulder. “then we’re done.”
as they stepped out of the café, the late afternoon sunlight cast a warm, golden glow over the campus. the air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of autumn leaves, and the streets were alive with the chatter of students heading to their next destination.
“wanna take a walk?” y/n asked suddenly, looking up at him.
seungmin hesitated for a moment before nodding. “sure.”
they strolled along the tree-lined paths, the leaves crunching softly under their shoes. y/n swung her bag idly by her side, her energy a little more subdued than usual.
seungmin noticed her glancing at her phone every few minutes, her brows furrowing slightly each time. he didn’t say anything at first, but as the minutes ticked by, her unease became harder to ignore.
“you’ve been checking your phone a lot,” he said finally, his tone casual but pointed.
y/n looked up, startled. “oh, it’s nothing.”
“doesn’t look like nothing,” he said, studying her carefully.
she hesitated, biting her lip. “it’s really not a big deal. just… a thing.”
seungmin raised an eyebrow but didn’t press further. instead, he changed the subject. “you know, for someone who’s always so cheery, you’re not great at hiding when something’s bothering you.”
y/n let out a small laugh, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “guess i’m not as subtle as i thought.”
“nope,” he said, smirking slightly.
they continued walking, the conversation drifting to lighter topics. y/n told him about the time she tried to bake cookies and accidentally used salt instead of sugar, while seungmin recounted the disastrous group project he’d been part of in high school.
at one point, they stopped by a small fountain in the center of campus, the water sparkling in the golden light. y/n leaned against the edge, her face tilted up toward the sky.
“you ever think about how weird life is?” she said suddenly, her voice soft.
seungmin looked at her, surprised by the shift in her tone. “weird how?”
“like…how people come and go. how things change so fast, and you don’t even realize it until it’s already happened,” she said, her fingers trailing absently along the edge of the fountain.
he didn’t respond immediately, letting her words hang in the air. “yeah,” he said finally. “but that’s just how it is. you can’t control it.”
“i know,” she said, sighing. “it’s just…sometimes i wish things could stay the same, you know?”
seungmin watched her for a moment, the soft sunlight catching in her hair, turning it into a halo of dark curls. he didn’t know what was going on in her head, but for some reason, he found himself wanting to figure it out.
“you’re not as complicated as you think you are,” he said, breaking the silence.
y/n turned to him, blinking. “what’s that supposed to mean?”
he shrugged. “you’re easy to read. you care too much, you worry too much, and you’re too nice for your own good.”
she stared at him for a moment, then smiled. “is that supposed to be a compliment?”
“take it however you want,” he said, smirking.
as the evening wore on, they found themselves back near the café, the warm glow of the windows spilling onto the sidewalk.
“thanks for hanging out,” y/n said as they stopped outside.
“didn’t have much of a choice,” seungmin replied, though there was no edge to his tone.
y/n laughed, the sound light and genuine. “you’re not as grumpy as you pretend to be, you know.”
“don’t push your luck,” he said, but his lips quirked up in the faintest of smiles.
as they parted ways, y/n glanced at her phone one last time, her smile faltering slightly. seungmin noticed, his chest tightening with a feeling he didn’t quite understand.
he didn’t ask, not yet. but something about her quiet moments of worry lingered in his mind long after she was gone.
Tumblr media
the morning sun cast a soft glow over the campus, but y/n barely noticed it. her fingers twitched against her phone screen, unlocking it for the hundredth time that morning. nothing. no updates.
she exhaled, locking it again, stuffing it into her coat pocket as her legs carried her to the usual meeting spot—a bench under the giant oak tree near the university fountain. felix, hyunjin, rina, and aeri were already there, their laughter blending into the murmur of passing students.
“hey, superstar,” felix greeted, his dimpled smile in place. “finally decided to grace us with your presence?”
y/n forced a smile, but hyunjin narrowed his eyes immediately. “you didn’t sleep well, did you?”
she waved him off. “i’m fine.”
aeri crossed her arms. “liar. you’ve been checking your phone like your life depends on it.”
rina sighed, her voice gentler. “still no news?”
y/n shook her head, biting the inside of her cheek. “i just.. i just hope things work out.”
felix leaned forward, resting his arms on his thighs. “you should stop worrying so much. it’s not like you can do anything more.”
“i could,” y/n mumbled, picking at her sleeve.
hyunjin clicked his tongue. “y/n. you did everything you could. more than anyone else would.”
“but that doesn’t mean it’s enough.” her voice was quiet, yet it carried the weight of something much heavier.
aeri’s expression softened. “we know how much this means to you. but stressing yourself out isn’t going to change anything.”
y/n stayed silent, staring at her shoes.
the group lapsed into silence for a moment, the usual morning energy dimmed by the unspoken understanding hanging between them.
then, suddenly—
“okay, enough doom and gloom,” felix announced, standing up dramatically. “we have classes to suffer through, and y/n, you have a reputation to maintain as our radiant ball of sunshine.”
y/n rolled her eyes but couldn’t help the tiny laugh that escaped her.
hyunjin threw an arm around her shoulder, squeezing lightly. “see? there’s the smile. let’s keep it that way, yeah?”
she hummed noncommittally, but as they all walked to class together, her fingers still itched to check her phone again.
meanwhile.
seungmin had barely sat down at their usual cafeteria table when jisung slid into the seat beside him with all the grace of an overly excited squirrel.
“so,” jisung started, grinning. “how’s your little study buddy?”
seungmin exhaled sharply through his nose, already regretting every life choice that had led him here. “no.”
jeongin, sitting across from them, leaned forward, clearly entertained. “what do you mean, ‘no’? we didn’t even say anything yet.”
“you don’t have to,” seungmin deadpanned, stabbing at his rice with his chopsticks.
ryujin, yuna, and yeji all exchanged looks before turning to him in unison. ryujin smirked. “so. how’s y/n?”
seungmin chewed slowly, staring blankly at his tray like the answers to life’s problems were hidden somewhere between his kimchi and his soup. “fine.”
jisung gasped, placing a dramatic hand on his chest. “fine? that’s all we get? kim seungmin, the master of unnecessary detail and sarcasm, is suddenly giving us fine?”
yeji leaned in. “what’s she like when she studies? still yapping?”
“she never stops talking,” seungmin muttered, rubbing his temple.
yuna giggled. “sounds like you had so much fun.”
“ecstatic.”
jeongin raised an eyebrow. “but you keep showing up.”
seungmin clicked his tongue, irritated. “because we have a project. unlike you clowns, i care about my grades.”
jisung dramatically wiped a fake tear. “we’re clowns, but you chose to sit here.”
minho, who had been silently eating until now, finally spoke up. “so, you actually like hanging out with her, huh?”
the entire table went silent.
seungmin paused mid-bite, his jaw tightening ever so slightly. “i tolerate her.”
jeongin snorted. “that’s seungmin for i-actually-enjoy-her-company.”
“i do not—”
“oh my god, guys,” jisung gasped, eyes widening as if he had just discovered the meaning of life. “what if he is the one who talks more when they’re together? what if he’s the one who yaps?”
the table erupted into laughter while seungmin sat there, unimpressed, arms crossed.
“be serious,” seungmin said flatly. “me? talkative?”
ryujin leaned her chin on her hand, grinning. “well, y/n does have a way of getting people to open up.”
seungmin scoffed, looking back down at his food. “yeah, well. doesn’t mean anything.”
jisung wiggled his eyebrows. “sure, sure. but if you ever start writing your songs about her, let us know.”
minho smirked. “or if you suddenly develop a taste for matcha lattes.”
seungmin groaned, dropping his chopsticks onto his tray. “i hate all of you.”
but even as his friends laughed and teased, he couldn’t stop the brief thought that flickered in his mind—
y/n had ordered a matcha latte for him yesterday.
and, annoyingly enough, it had tasted just a little bit better than usual.

the golden glow of the setting sun stretched across the city, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. the air was crisp, carrying the scent of autumn leaves, freshly brewed coffee from nearby shops, and the faintest whiff of something sweet—perhaps a bakery down the street, or maybe just the anticipation curling in y/n’s stomach.
she adjusted the tote bag slung over her shoulder, her fingers tightening around the straps as she, hyunjin, and felix approached the same, familiar place.
the soft jingling of the bell above the glass door greeted them as they stepped inside, the warmth of the small space wrapping around them like a hug.
the scent of pet shampoo and fresh kibble mixed with the quiet murmurs of staff and the occasional soft barks from the kennels. y/n immediately scanned the room, her heart squeezing as her eyes landed on a familiar golden figure curled up in the corner.
“star,” she breathed, a gentle smile tugging at her lips.
the golden retriever perked up at the sound of her voice, his deep brown eyes lighting up as he scrambled to his feet, tail thumping wildly against the floor. his scarred eyebrow lifted slightly, his head tilting as if in disbelief before he rushed toward the gate of his enclosure, whining softly.
felix chuckled beside her. “that’s one hell of a welcome.”
hyunjin smirked. “almost makes me jealous.”
y/n shot them a look before crouching down, slipping her fingers through the gaps in the bars to brush against the soft fur of star’s head. “hi, baby,” she cooed, her voice dropping into that sweet, affectionate tone she only ever used for him. “did you miss me?”
star pressed his nose against her fingers, letting out a low, contented whimper as his tail wagged even harder.
a familiar voice spoke up from behind the counter. “you know, i think he waits for you every day.”
y/n looked up to see hana, one of the adoption center staff, smiling at her from behind the desk. she was leaning against it, arms crossed, watching the scene unfold with knowing eyes.
y/n straightened up, brushing her hands on her jeans. “any news?”
hana’s smile faded slightly, and she sighed, shaking her head. “not yet. a few people came in, but they were looking for younger pups. star's still waiting.”
y/n bit her lip, glancing down at the dog who was still pressed against the gate, big brown eyes watching her intently.
her chest ached.
felix noticed, nudging her shoulder. “hey, it’s only been a little while. he’s gonna find the perfect home.”
y/n nodded, but she didn’t respond. instead, she reached into her tote bag, pulling out a small packet of homemade dog treats wrapped neatly in brown paper. she unwrapped it carefully and slipped one through the bars, watching as star took it gently from her fingers.
“you made him more treats?” hyunjin asked, amused.
she gave him a look. “of course. he deserves them.”
hana chuckled. “you’re probably spoiling him more than his future owner will.”
y/n only smiled, watching star nibble on the treat, his tail wagging slower now, more content than excited. she reached forward again, scratching behind his ears, her fingers brushing lightly against the scar above his eye.
she hated that scar. hated the reminder of what he had been through before he ended up here. hated that someone had hurt him enough to leave marks on his body.
star suddenly licked her fingers, snapping her out of her thoughts. she blinked, then let out a soft laugh.
“thanks, baby,” she murmured, rubbing his head. “guess i needed that.”
felix and hyunjin exchanged a glance but said nothing.
after a moment, y/n sighed, straightening up. “i’ll come back tomorrow.”
hana smiled. “i’m sure he’ll be waiting.”
y/n looked back down at star one last time before stepping away. but as she turned toward the door, she felt it—that nagging, sinking feeling that sat deep in her chest, whispering words she didn’t want to hear.
what if no one ever comes for him?
Tumblr media
the streetlights flickered on as the sun dipped lower, washing the city in gold and deepening shades of blue. cars rumbled past, the occasional honk slicing through the air, but to y/n, everything felt muted—like a muffled symphony playing in the background of her mind.
she walked between the two, her steps a little slower than usual, her hands tucked into the sleeves of her oversized cardigan. she wasn’t talking as much, and that was rare.
felix noticed first. “you’re quiet,” he murmured, glancing at her from the side.
y/n hummed, eyes fixed on the pavement. “just thinking.”
hyunjin sighed. “about star.”
she didn’t answer right away. instead, she kicked a small pebble on the sidewalk, watching as it bounced ahead of them before rolling to a stop. then, softly—“he’s been there for so long.”
felix’s lips pressed into a thin line. “he’ll find a home.”
y/n exhaled slowly, hugging herself. “what if he doesn’t?”
hyunjin nudged her shoulder. “you don’t know that.”
“i don’t not know that either.”
the three of them fell silent for a few beats, the sounds of the city filling the space between them. a warm breeze tousled y/n’s hair, but it did little to chase away the weight settling in her chest.
“he’s such a good pup,” she murmured. “so kind, so sweet. and he’s still waiting for someone.”
hyunjin ran a hand through his hair, exhaling. “yeah, because the right person hasn’t come yet.”
y/n swallowed, shaking her head. “i wish i could take him back.”
felix reached over, squeezing her arm gently. “we know.”
her throat tightened, but she forced a smile. “why am i like this? why do i care so much?”
“because you’re you,” felix said simply. “you love things deeply. it’s who you are.”
hyunjin smirked. “it’s a little pathetic, honestly.”
y/n scoffed, shoving his arm.
but the teasing had done its job—her shoulders had relaxed just a little.
they turned a corner, nearing the familiar street where the café sat. the warm glow of its windows spilled onto the pavement, the sight usually filling y/n with comfort. but today, it only reminded her that she was late.
“crap,” she muttered, checking her phone. “seungmin’s probably gonna be pissed.”
felix snorted. “when is he not pissed?”
“you should walk in and act like nothing happened, just to see his reaction.”
y/n rolled her eyes but couldn’t help the small chuckle that slipped out.
felix gave her one last reassuring squeeze before they reached the café. “you gonna be okay?”
y/n nodded, inhaling deeply before flashing them a grin—one that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “yeah. go home before you guys start acting like overprotective mums.”
hyunjin gave her a look. “too late.”
she laughed softly, waving them off before stepping into the café.
but even as the bell jingled overhead, announcing her arrival, and the scent of roasted coffee beans wrapped around her like a familiar embrace—
her heart was still with a golden-furred boy, waiting for a home.
Tumblr media
the café was warm, a stark contrast to the cool night air outside. the scent of espresso and vanilla swirled around y/n as she stepped inside, but tonight, the usual coziness of the place did little to lift the weight pressing down on her shoulders.
the space buzzed with quiet conversations, the occasional scrape of a chair against the wooden floor, and the low hum of indie music filtering through the speakers. a couple of students sat by the windows, heads buried in textbooks, while others scrolled through laptops, half-empty cups of coffee beside them.
and there, by their usual table in the corner—was seungmin.
he sat with his arms crossed, a glass of water in front of him, its ice long since melted and glass covered with tiny droplets. his phone rested on the table, face-down, but the second he heard the door’s bell chime, his head lifted. his gaze found hers almost immediately.
a sharp glance. then, a slow raise of his brows.
y/n gulped. oh boy.
she hurried over, pulling the chair out with a quiet scrape and plopping down with an apologetic smile. “hey—”
“you’re late.”
the two words were flat, unimpressed, dripping with that classic seungmin deadpan tone.
y/n winced. “i know, i know—i’m so sorry. i lost track of time.”
seungmin exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “you always lose track of time.”
y/n bit her lip, fingers toying with the hem of her sleeve. usually, she’d fire back with some kind of playful retort. usually, she’d tease him about how he was so dramatic. usually, she’d flash a grin and brush it off.
but tonight, she just muttered a quiet, “yeah… i guess i do.”
seungmin blinked, caught slightly off guard. he had been expecting her usual antics, not this quiet, subdued version of her. his gaze flickered over her face—she wasn’t meeting his eyes, instead staring at the table, her fingers still fidgeting.
something was off.
he leaned back in his chair, arms still crossed. “alright. spill it.”
y/n finally looked up. “huh?”
“you’re too quiet,” seungmin said simply. “it’s weird. i don’t like it.”
y/n huffed a soft laugh, shaking her head. “you’re acting like me not talking is a crime.”
“it is,” seungmin deadpanned. “you talk so much that i’m convinced if you ever stop, the universe will collapse in on itself.”
y/n let out a soft chuckle. “well, lucky for the universe, i’m still here.”
seungmin narrowed his eyes, scanning her expression. the laugh had been small, but it wasn’t real. and that wasn’t lucky for the universe—it was concerning.
something was definitely wrong.
but seungmin wasn’t the type to pry. at least, not directly.
instead, he reached for his matcha latte, taking a slow sip before saying, “you’re late by twenty-five minutes, by the way.”
y/n groaned, slumping against the table. “i know. i already said sorry.”
seungmin hummed. “i had to sit here. alone. staring at the wall. like some abandoned, unloved creature.”
y/n peeked up at him. “so you feel loved in my company?”
“i ordered water, alone, y/n.” seungmin shook his head, sighing. “do you understand how humiliating that was? the barista asked, ‘are you waiting for someone?’ and i had to say, ‘yeah, but she’s twenty-five minutes late and probably forgot i exist.’”
y/n groaned again, burying her face in her arms. “stop making me feel worse.”
“oh, i’m just getting started.” seungmin leaned in. “twenty-five minutes of my life that i will never get back.”
y/n lifted her head just enough to glare at him. “i should’ve been later.”
seungmin smirked. “you wouldn’t dare.”
she let out a breathy chuckle, shaking her head. “why, is it because you'll miss me so much?”
“here we are.” seungmin gestured between them. “trapped in this academic partnership of doom.”
y/n rolled her eyes, finally sitting up straight. “fine. i’m making it up to you.”
“oh?”
y/n lifted her hand, signaling the passing barista. “two matcha lattes, please.”
the barista nodded, jotting it down. “same as always?”
y/n glanced at seungmin’s half-empty water before nodding. “yeah. same.”
seungmin stared at her for a second longer, something unreadable flickering in his gaze.
he looked away, suddenly very focused on the condensation on his cup. “you’re still late.”
y/n grinned, finally—finally—looking a little like herself again. “yeah, but you’re not mad anymore.”
seungmin scoffed. “i was never mad.”
“even better.”
the matcha latte arrived a few minutes later, and y/n pushed it toward him with a triumphant look. “peace offering.”
seungmin rolled his eyes but took the cup anyway, sipping it slowly. the warmth spread through him, though he wasn’t sure if it was just from the drink anymore.
he glanced at y/n again. she still seemed a little distant—her fingers tapping idly against the table, her eyes unfocused at times. but she was trying. she was here.
and for now, that was enough.
Tumblr media
the dorm was warm, buzzing with laughter and the easy comfort of friends who had long since learned how to exist in each other’s spaces. the soft hum of music played in the background, barely audible over the sound of hyunjin dramatically retelling some ridiculous story from his dance class, complete with exaggerated gestures and poorly executed sound effects.
"i swear, i almost died," hyunjin declared, sprawled across y/n’s bed like a lifeless corpse.
felix snorted, shoving a handful of popcorn into his mouth. "you tripped over your own foot, dude."
"it was sabotage!" hyunjin shot up, jabbing a finger in the air. "jeongin pushed me!"
rina, lying upside down on the couch, waved a dismissive hand. "jeongin literally isn't even in dance."
"then it was minho," hyunjin insisted, brows furrowed like he was solving the biggest mystery of his life. "he has it out for me."
aeri rolled her eyes. "everyone has it out for you because you’re annoying."
hyunjin gasped, clutching his chest. "how dare—"
"she’s not wrong," felix muttered under his breath.
"okay, okay," y/n giggled, lying comfortably on the floor with her legs propped up against the couch. "next story before hyunjin starts fake crying again."
felix grinned, eyes twinkling mischievously. "oh, i have one—"
but before he could even begin, y/n’s phone buzzed.
a single text.
from hana.
her heart stuttered. for a second, she just stared at the screen, her brain struggling to process what she was reading.
hey, y/n!just a heads up—there’s someone interested in star! they’re about 90% sure about adopting him, and they’ll be coming back tomorrow to make a final decision! :)
y/n’s breath caught.
the words blurred together, her brain tripping over itself to comprehend them. someone was interested. someone wanted star. he could actually, finally, hopefully have a home.
her fingers trembled as they hovered over the screen.
this was good. this was amazing.
so why did it feel like her heart had suddenly stopped?
"uh… y/n?"
she blinked.
four pairs of eyes were locked on her, concern etched across their faces.
"what happened?" felix asked, sitting up.
"you just froze,"
"dude, you looked like you saw a ghost."
y/n opened her mouth. then closed it. then opened it again—only to stay silent.
hyunjin waved a hand in front of her face. "did she get cursed or something?"
and just like that, it hit her.
excitement, relief, joy—everything crashed into her all at once.
her face lit up, and she jumped to her feet so suddenly that she almost knocked over the coffee table. "oh my god."
hyunjin flinched. "jesus—"
"what?!" aeri demanded, grabbing her wrist.
y/n practically bounced on her feet, barely able to contain herself. "someone’s interested in star!!"
the room fell silent for half a second—then erupted.
"no way!" felix shot up, eyes wide.
"are you serious?" hyunjin nearly knocked over a pillow in his excitement.
y/n nodded wildly, hands shaking with pure, unfiltered joy. "yes—yes—yes—hana just texted me! they’re not fully sure yet, but they’re 90% sure!!"
rina gasped. "that’s so close—"
"and precise.."
aeri covered her mouth. "oh my god, y/n!"
and then, suddenly, it was all too much.
tears pricked at the corners of her eyes before she could stop them, her vision going blurry as she let out a half-laugh, half-sob. "i—i'm just—so happy—"
felix reached over, wrapping her in a tight hug. "oh, y/n," he murmured. "that’s amazing."
aeri and rina piled in next, squishing her between them, and before she knew it, hyunjin tackled the group too, his arms nearly choking the life out of all of them.
"group hug!" hyunjin declared.
"hyunjin—"
"can’t breathe—"
"worth it!"
laughter bubbled up between them, the warmth of their shared happiness filling every corner of the room.
y/n sniffled, wiping at her cheeks as she pulled back. "i just—" she took a deep breath, voice trembling with excitement. "i really hope it works out. i just want him to have a home."
felix squeezed her hand. "he will."
hyunjin nodded, a rare moment of sincerity in his usually dramatic demeanor. "and if it doesn’t, we’ll figure something out. together."
y/n’s heart swelled.
for a moment, she just looked at them—at felix’s soft, knowing smile, at hyunjin’s reassuring nod, at aeri and rina’s equally teary eyes.
her family.
her people.
Tumblr media
the streets were alive with the kind of lazy energy only a weekend morning could bring—bustling yet unhurried, kissed by golden sunlight filtering through the trees. cafés spilled over with students nursing their first coffees of the day, a soft hum of chatter filling the air. the crisp autumn breeze carried the scent of freshly baked bread from a bakery down the street, mingling with the faint aroma of brewing coffee from their usual café.
but amidst it all, y/n’s voice was the loudest thing in the universe.
“i have to tell them everything about star,” she declared, walking ahead of the group with an urgency that made it look like she was on a life-or-death mission.
“i need to make sure they know his likes, dislikes—what makes him happy, what makes him sad—oh my god, what if they don’t get him the right treats—”
“are we sure she’s not the one being put up for adoption?”
“i heard that, felix.”
aeri chuckled, shoving her hands into the pockets of her oversized hoodie. “yeah, yeah. tell us, y/n. what else does star like?”
y/n didn’t even need to be asked twice.
“he loves belly rubs,” she continued, voice animated. “and he’s not very picky about food, but he does this little head tilt when he really likes something, and it’s the cutest thing ever—”
rina cooed. “that sounds so cute—”
“it is,” y/n stressed, turning to walk backward as she spoke, her arms flailing in exaggerated enthusiasm.
“and he’s so well-behaved. like, when i tell him to sit, he actually listens—unless he’s too excited, then he just kind of vibrates in place—”
hyunjin snorted. “so basically, he’s you.”
i do not vibrate in place!”
“you kinda do.”
“i mean,” aeri chimed in, barely holding back her laughter. “look at you right now.”
and okay, fine. maybe they had a point.
because if she were to take an honest look at herself, she was bouncing on her feet slightly, practically vibrating with excitement.
but in her defense, this was a big deal.
she turned back around with a huff. “whatever. the point is—he loves people. he’s such a good boy. but he hates loud noises—like thunder? oh my god, you should’ve seen him last time. i thought my heart was gonna break.”
the group collectively awed.
rina pouted. “poor baby.”
y/n nodded solemnly. “and he’s super smart! like, he knows when i’m sad, and he just leans against me like a little weighted blanket—”
felix grinned. “again. just like you.”
“i swear to god, lee felix—”
laughter erupted through the group, bouncing off the city walls as they continued down the street, the adoption center now coming into view.
hyunjin slung an arm around y/n’s shoulders, pulling her close for a second before dramatically ruffling her hair. “you’re really gonna cry, huh?”
y/n scoffed, but her lips twitched upward. “me? cry? never.”
aeri smirked. “uh-huh. sure.”
rina grinned. “we’ll see about that.”
y/n rolled her eyes, but truthfully?
she wasn’t so sure they were wrong.
the adoption center was just a few steps away now, its familiar glass doors reflecting the bright morning light. y/n’s feet slowed, just slightly, and for the first time since they left, her voice wavered.
“i’ll miss him.”
it was quiet—soft. almost lost in the weekend bustle of the city.
felix, walking beside her, immediately noticed. his teasing expression faded into something gentler, something understanding. “yeah,” he said, nudging her shoulder lightly. “i know.”
hyunjin sighed, running a hand through his hair. “you really love that dog, huh?”
y/n let out a small laugh, but it was thinner now, fragile. “of course,” she admitted.
aeri and rina exchanged a glance before moving closer, their presence warm, comforting. rina linked their arms together. “hey,” she said softly, “he’s gonna find a really good home.”
y/n nodded, swallowing. “i know.”
and she did know. she knew this was what she wanted—for star to be safe, to be happy. but still. the idea of walking into that adoption center today and possibly realizing that she’d seen him for the last time?
it hurt.
felix draped an arm over her shoulder, squeezing. “we’re here,” he murmured as they reached the doors. “ready?”
y/n inhaled, exhaled. then, she nodded.
“yeah.”
but the moment she stepped inside and saw him—his golden fur catching the sunlight, his tail wagging the second he saw her—she knew.
she was so not ready.
Tumblr media
the adoption center was quiet—eerily so. it was one of those rare slow mornings, the usual chatter of visitors absent, leaving only the distant hum of traffic outside and the occasional bark from the kennels. the air smelled faintly of wood shavings and the subtle sweetness of pet shampoo, the kind that lingered in fur like a soft embrace.
but none of that mattered.
because the moment y/n stepped inside, he was all she could see.
“star!”
the golden retriever perked up instantly at the sound of her voice, his floppy ears twitching before he launched himself toward her with uncontainable excitement. his tail wagged wildly, his whole body practically vibrating as he reached her.
y/n barely had a second to prepare before she was tackled—star standing on his hind legs, paws pressed against her as he buried his face into her neck.
“oh my god—you menace—” y/n laughed, stumbling slightly but hugging him nonetheless, burying her face into his fur. he smelled warm, familiar, like something safe. “did you miss me? huh? did you miss me, baby?”
star whined, licking her cheek in rapid, enthusiastic swipes.
“i’ll take that as a yes.”
felix snickered from behind. “he’s actually insane about you.”
hyunjin nodded. “i mean, i get it. you do vibrate like he does.”
y/n shot them both a glare but was too busy giggling as star flopped onto his back, belly fully exposed. “ugh, fine,” she sighed dramatically, crouching down. “you win. belly rubs for you, your majesty.”
star's tail thumped against the floor excitedly as she ran her hands through his fur, tracing small patterns over his stomach. he exhaled happily, stretching his legs as if to demand 'more, human.'
“god,” aeri mused. “imagine being loved this much.”
rina smirked. “maybe if you rolled over and asked nicely—”
aeri shoved her.
“ooh, i ship!” hyunjin and felix said in unison.
meanwhile, hana leaned against the counter with a soft smile. “you got here just in time,” she said. “the guy who showed interest might be coming soon.”
y/n froze for half a second before she forced herself to keep scratching behind star's ears.
“oh,” she said, voice light, casual. “right. that’s—good.”
felix and hyunjin exchanged a glance.
“you okay?” hyunjin asked.
y/n smiled at star, watching as his eyes fluttered shut in pure bliss.
“i’m okay,” she murmured. “i just wanna enjoy this for a little longer.”
hyunjin and felix didn’t push. instead, they sat down nearby, letting her have her moment.
because even though she was smiling, they knew.
this was going to be really hard for her.
a little while later, the girl and the pup had retreated to the playroom. it was warm, filled with the scent of fresh pinewood shavings and soft blankets. the room was lined with plush beds, shelves of toys, and the occasional scratching post—even though star had zero interest in anything but y/n.
she sat cross-legged on the padded floor, giggling as the golden retriever nuzzled into her, his weight nearly knocking her over. “star, you clingy little baby,” she cooed, rubbing his ears as his tail wagged violently, his entire body practically humming with joy.
y/n flopped onto her back with a sigh, her fingers threading through his golden fur as he settled beside her, curling against her like he always did.
a small, selfish part of her wanted to keep him like this forever.
but that wasn’t fair, was it?
she exhaled, staring at the ceiling. “you’re gonna find a home today,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. “i just know it.”
she smiled, squeezing his paw gently.
“and i hope they love you as much as i do.”
meanwhile, outside the playroom, hyunjin, felix, aeri, rina, and hana were hanging around the front desk when the adoption center’s door swung open. the bell chimed softly as two familiar figures strolled in—jisung, looking completely at home, and seungmin, his hands shoved in the pockets of his hoodie, looking his usual mildly unimpressed self.
felix blinked. “oh?”
hyunjin raised an eyebrow. “what are you guys doing here?”
jisung grinned. “oh, you know—just a casual weekend visit to an animal shelter. felt like staring at some cats.”
rina narrowed her eyes. “is that true, or did you just get dragged here by seungmin?”
jisung groaned. “fine, yeah, i got dragged here.” he sighed dramatically before jabbing a thumb toward his best friend. “he’s actually the one adopting today.”
felix and hyunjin’s heads tilted slightly. “oh?”
aeri’s eyes lit up. “wait—seungmin, you’re getting a pet?”
seungmin shrugged. “yeah.”
rina smirked. “let me guess. a cat.”
jisung snorted. “oh, no. this dude? a cat?” he shook his head. “nah, he’s adopting a dog.”
felix hummed. “nice. what kind?”
seungmin’s gaze flickered toward hana, who had started flipping through adoption papers. “golden retriever,” he said simply. “his name’s star. anyway, where's the staff lady?”
the moment the words left his mouth, a wave of silence crashed over the group.
hyunjin and felix both froze.
aeri and rina's jaws slightly dropped.
hana finally returned from the back, greeting seungmin with a smile, “ah, you're here! guys, he's the one who's adopting st-”
even jisung, oblivious to the shift in atmosphere, blinked in confusion.
“what?” he asked.
before anyone could answer, the door to the playroom creaked open.
and out stepped y/n, her arms wrapped around star—his golden fur glowing in the light, his tail wagging happily.
she took one step forward before her gaze landed on seungmin.
seungmin, who was already staring right back at her.
both of them squinted.
“…what are you doing here?” they asked at the same time.
jisung blinked, glancing between them. “okay, what’s happening right now—”
and then it clicked.
y/n’s eyes widened, flickering to her friends—felix, hyunjin, and rina watching the scene unfold with barely contained amusement.
“you—” she turned back to seungmin. “you’re adopting star?”
seungmin nodded, not entirely sure why she looked so shocked. “yeah?”
the room was silent for a beat.
then—
“oh my god,” y/n practically shrieked.
before seungmin could react, she launched herself at him, arms wrapping around his shoulders in a bone-crushing hug.
seungmin stiffened, eyes widening. “what the hell—”
but she was already bouncing, gripping his hoodie with sheer, uncontrollable joy.
“oh my god, oh my god, oh my god— seungmin.” she shook him, eyes shining. “you’re really adopting him??”
seungmin, still reeling, cleared his throat. “uh… yeah?”
“oh my god.”
y/n squealed, actually jumping up and down as she rapid-fired through a list of things—
“okay, okay, listen, he’s so good but sometimes he’s picky with food—he loves belly rubs but only in the morning—he doesn’t like loud noises but he loves music, i think he likes indie-rock?—oh and he’s so soft so you have to use this one dog shampoo, i’ll send you the link—oh my god, seungmin, if you forget to feed him i will end you—”
seungmin blinked, still trying to process what was happening.
meanwhile, felix and hyunjin were both howling with laughter.
“she’s so gone for that dog,” felix wheezed, wiping a tear.
“seungmin, she’s been obsessed with star,” hyunjin explained to him, still laughing. “she found him on the street months ago, brought him here herself, and has been visiting him every single day—”
“—which is why she’s been all moody lately,” rina added, grinning. “she was worried he wouldn’t find a home soon.”
seungmin slowly turned his gaze back to y/n, who was still yapping away, her hands gripping his sleeves like she was scared he’d disappear.
something inside him… softened.
she was so happy.
like—genuinely happy. practically glowing with excitement, her eyes bright, her entire body buzzing like an overcharged battery.
and it was because of him.
he cleared his throat. “okay, damn,” he muttered. “didn’t know i was winning a nobel prize for adopting a dog.”
y/n gasped. “it’s star, you ungrateful—”
jisung grinned, nudging seungmin’s shoulder. “looks like you did a good thing, min.”
seungmin exhaled, letting a small, amused smile slip.
yeah.
he had a feeling he really did.
hana leaned against the adoption center’s front desk, arms crossed, watching the chaos unfold before her.
seungmin stood beside her, hands shoved into his hoodie pockets, observing y/n bounce around like she had just won the lottery.
he was still processing it all.
she had really been this attached to this dog?
y/n was currently kneeling on the floor, hugging the golden retriever tightly, her fingers buried in his soft fur as she giggled, pressing kisses to the top of his head. star, for his part, was practically melting into her, his tail wagging violently, paws twitching in excitement.
hana let out a small chuckle. “she’s over the moon.”
seungmin huffed a small laugh, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. “yeah, no kidding.”
hana turned to him, her expression amused but also… grateful. “seriously, though. thanks for this, seungmin.”
he glanced at her. “for what?”
she smiled knowingly, tilting her head toward y/n. “for that.”
seungmin followed her gaze.
y/n was beaming, her entire body radiating happiness as she continued to hug star, her face buried in his fur.
it was a rare kind of joy. the kind that made people forget about everything else. the kind that made time slow down for just a little while.
and for some reason…
he kind of liked that he was partially the reason behind it.
hana’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts. “she was really worried, you know?”
seungmin frowned slightly. “about what?”
hana gave him a look. “star.”
he blinked.
“she’s been coming here every day after class,” hana continued, her voice soft but full of meaning. “bringing treats, playing with him, making sure he wasn’t lonely. she didn’t talk about it much, but we all knew. she was so scared he’d never find a home.”
seungmin’s lips parted slightly.
“she’s been checking her phone constantly the past few days, waiting for an update. i swear, she probably manifested you into this place.” hana smirked. “and now look at her.”
seungmin glanced at y/n again.
she was now rubbing star’s belly, grinning ear to ear, still completely lost in her own little world.
his fingers curled slightly in his pockets.
…had she really been worrying this much?
and he hadn’t even noticed much?
hana’s voice broke through his thoughts again, softer this time. “so yeah. thanks, seungmin. i don’t think you realize just how much this means to her.”
he swallowed, clearing his throat. “it’s just a dog,” he muttered.
hana raised an eyebrow. “maybe to you.”
seungmin exhaled, shaking his head. “you’re making it sound like i saved a life or something.”
hana just smiled knowingly. “maybe you did.”
meanwhile, a few feet away, y/n was bouncing on her heels, grinning so hard her cheeks hurt.
“seungmin, you’re the best,” she gushed, turning to him. “seriously. i don’t even know how to thank you.”
seungmin quirked an eyebrow. “you’ve already thanked me, like, ten times.”
she gasped. “not enough.”
she suddenly grabbed his hands, squeezing them tightly as she stared at him, eyes sparkling. “thank you, seungmin. i swear i could kiss you right now.”
the guy choked. “what?”
felix, who had been drinking from a soda can, almost spit it out.
y/n didn’t even realize what she had just said, too caught up in her own excitement.
“i mean—not literally— i mean, i could—i mean—you get it,” she flailed, laughing nervously.
seungmin just stared.
jisung grinned. “dude, this is the first time i’ve ever seen you speechless.”
“i hate all of you,” seungmin muttered, pulling his hands away as he rubbed the back of his neck, ears ever so slightly red.
but then—
y/n clapped her hands together. “wait.”
seungmin braced himself. “what now?”
her eyes shone as she grabbed his arm. “okay, listen—so star loves sleeping on soft blankets, so please buy him those, and oh my god, he loves head pats—especially before sleeping—”
seungmin sighed. “here we go again.”
felix snickered. “good luck, bro.”
hyunjin clapped his shoulder. “you signed up for this.”
aeri beamed. “welcome to the rest of your life, seungmin.”
and all seungmin could do was exhale as y/n continued to speak, her happiness so loud, so vibrant, so unbelievably contagious—
that, for once, he didn’t actually mind.
“is your little girlfriend going to come visit us and the pup daily now?” jisung had murmured.

the studio hummed softly with the rhythm of creation. neon lights bathed the room in a faint blue hue, illuminating scattered notepads, empty coffee cups, and tangled wires. chris sat hunched over the mixer, his headphones cocooning him in a world of melody and beats. his fingers danced across the keyboard, and his lips moved silently to lyrics only he could hear.
the door creaked open, but he didn’t notice at first. not until a voice, familiar and warm like a memory, broke through his concentration.
“still drowning in wires and caffeine, i see.”
chris's head snapped up, his eyes widening as they landed on her. she stood there, arms crossed with a smirk playing on her lips, her figure outlined by the hallway light. y/n. his childhood best friend. the one he hadn’t seen in what felt like forever.
“y/n?” he exclaimed, pulling off his headphones and rising to his feet so quickly the chair nearly toppled. “what are you doing here?”
“surprising you, obviously,” she replied, stepping into the room. “thought you might’ve forgotten me with how busy you are, bangchan.”
“forget you?” chris shook his head, a grin spreading across his face. “impossible. you just stopped answering my texts!”
“oh, sure, blame me,” she teased, rolling her eyes before pulling him into a quick hug. “you’ve been busy saving the world with your music. i figured you didn’t need little ol’ me bothering you.”
“y/n, you’re ridiculous,” he laughed, though his voice softened with genuine fondness. “i could never be too busy for you. plus how'd you even find me here- and how did they let you in?”
“it took me a few calls with hannah to get to your little lair here, call me a stalker, but here i am. and as far as the security is concerned, felix helped.”
she laughed, glancing around the room. “this place screams ‘chris’ it’s chaotic, intense, and somehow cozy all at once.”
he rubbed the back of his neck, chuckling. “yeah, it’s a mess. you caught me in the middle of a session.”
“am i interrupting genius at work?”
“not genius, just me,” he quipped, leaning against the desk.
“but since you’re here, let’s catch up. it’s been too long.”
“chop chop, i've got coffees and chips, just like before.”
minutes later, they were strolling along the quiet streets. the city lights shimmered like stars brought to earth, casting reflections on the river they walked beside. the chill of the night nipped at their cheeks, but the warmth of shared laughter kept them moving.
“so,” y/n began, nudging him playfully. “remember when we tried to start a band in high school?”
he groaned, covering his face with his hands. “please don’t remind me. we were terrible.”
“terrible?” y/n gasped, dramatically, her eyes crinkling with amusement. “we were iconic. with our small studio at your place, my guitar, your vocals and oh so dear macbook. ”
“if anything, we were trendsetters.” she said dramatically, tossing her hair over her shoulder.
the two dissolved into laughter, the kind that made their sides ache. the city seemed to fade away, leaving only the echo of their voices and the gentle ripple of the river.
they found a spot by the water’s edge, sitting side by side on a bench. the moon hung high above them, casting silver light across their faces.
“it’s crazy, isn’t it?” y/n said softly, her gaze fixed on the horizon. “how much has changed.”
“yeah,” he murmured, resting his elbows on his knees. “feels like another lifetime sometimes.”
they fell into a comfortable silence, the kind only lifelong friends could share. the memories of childhood seemed to hover between them—lazy afternoons, endless chatter, and dreams that felt too big for their small hands to hold.
“you’ve done it, though,” y/n said suddenly, turning to him. “you’ve made those dreams come true.”
“i guess,” chris replied, his voice tinged with humility. “but it’s not the same without having people like you around.”
y/n’s smile softened. “you’re still you, though. the same chris who spent hours perfecting a two-minute song. the same chris who stayed up with me when i was scared of the dark.”
“and you’re still the same y/n who annoyed the hell out of me,” chan said, nudging her shoulder. “oh, AND the one who always believed in you, when you were busy being sappy with berry!” she countered.
they looked at each other, and for a moment, the weight of time lifted. they weren’t idol and friend, or two people living vastly different lives. they were just chris and y/n—two kids who had grown up but never apart.
as the night deepened, their laughter and stories carried on, intertwining with the wind. by the time they walked back to the studio, they felt lighter, as if they’d bottled a piece of the past to keep with them always.
