HIII SU YAYY IM GLAD YOU LIKE FIONNA AND CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! o(^▽^)o despite my beef with the last 2 eps i really really do like f&c as a whole ... it feels like such a natural and intriguing progression for adventure time's story while also being creative enough to have its own identity. when i was watching it i was blown away with how much it exceeded my expectations!!! i wanna see where they take the 2 stories and im excited to see where the team decides take this universe (˘◡˘) ♪ ......

full disclosure im a #fake at fan i havent watched since iwas like 13 or something so take what i say with a grain of salt . but ig the main appeal of the first 8 eps for me is that i felt like it was set up as a subversion of what we knew about fionna and cake and, by extension, adventure time as a series. it takes a look at at's typical storytelling formula but from a more detached lens so it provides a new take on adventure time's storytelling by subverting it's key elements while offering a new perspective and tone (i was very pleased w how different f&c are from their at counterparts!) . simon's depression only seems to spiral with time despite everything "ending well" in the original series. fionna, who was initially excited to escape her boring life, becomes slowly disillusioned when she realizes she's out of her element amidst all the magic. both fionna and simon were stuck in a point where they can't progress in life (though in varying degree) because no matter what they do, there isn't really anywhere they belong. so their arcs are set up to have them live for themselves and carve an identity outside of wanting to escape their situations!! i found that very interesting!!

but then. episode 9 and 10 ...... gotta say i was pretty underwhelmed w these ones ha!

(extended thoughts beyond the cut bc its wayy too long and kind of a downer.. ^^ dont click if u havent finished yet!!):

i mean. eps 9-10 do a good enough job in wrapping up the story .... its just that the tone and way in which conflict was resolved felt kinda disconnected from the first half imo. fionna's struggles and what she needed was set up as a fairly complex problem and seemingly extended beyond her surface level desire to escape. but by the end shes like no wait im ok with my town actually i just needed to accept it :) which while yes that was the resolution the show was setting up, the way it's handled feels too. easy ig? idk her journey in the last two episodes feels wayy more cut-and-dry than i was hoping. it really feels like they wanted to delve into her struggles a little longer but weren't given enough time to do so, so they just kinda had to skip to The Part where she learns her lesson, but for me that kinda undermined the complexity of the conflict being set up and resolved things in a pretty generic way. also nitpick but her decision to not change her world mainly coming from gumlee going like "nooo we just got together!" was like disappointingly simple to me (._.)

which brings me to simon. ouuugh simon. i loooove fionna and cake's take on simon as a character a lot but im sorry betty and simon's resolution left me with more mixed feelings than it did closure. their story is bittersweet and doomed from the start so i dont have a problem with them not being meant to be but "simon was selfish too" being the major takeaway is so strange to me? throughout the show simon is shown to be incredibly selfless and self-sacrificial so having THAT be what we take away from his character feels so out of left field. and yes bc we dont see much about simon's personal life in the main series i dont doubt that he was prone to being selfish. it could be an interesting direction to take him in! but.... his selfishness towards betty is only brought up in episode 9 (we didnt see betty till episode 8 mind you) through an exposition dump via casper and nova (whose segments+designs were admittedly rlly cute) and directly called into question in the last episode, which was ALSO their last meeting. and it leaves such a sour taste to me ....... if youre basing a climax off a specific conflict....why wait UNTIL the climax itself to directly bring up said conflict with little to no buildup. i couldnt feel any closure bc i didnt think this was the conflict theyd choose to build their relationship on at all (then again i have bad foresight)

also "we could've made better choices" still confuses me bc literally WHAT..... if simon never put on the crown he wouldve died and never wouldve found marcy. if he escaped the crown's curse he wouldve projected his madness onto pb. idk. maybe i was reading too much into those isolated incidents. but also somehow i doubt that betty turning insane and ice king's existence were consequences of his selfishness 😭 mind you he literally tried to stop betty from saving him in at!!

additional nitpicks the tone kinda switched back and forth and it felt jarring. going from the somber tone of simon and betty resolution/final meeting and the lighthearted/vaguely humorous tone of fionna and friends trying to stop the bad guy kinda messed with my investment a lil bit...also jay permanently living in fionna's universe was so strange to me likerwyt2r!^%@%#& DONT YOU HAVE SIBLINGS?

anyways i sound really critical but its only bc im rlly invested and believe it could be better if its given enough time to explore its concept better!! and even if the last 2 eps werent for me as a whole there are a lot of things i love about it . the visuals (casper and nova, simon and betty's resolution, the scene of simon returning to ooo, the dandelion scene, the epilogue, GOLB) were sooo beautifully done and did such a good job giving the scenes weight like seriously props to the creative team. i also looove beth and shermy we've only seen very little of them but already their dynamic is so endearing. there's so much passion and creativity jampacked into this project i reaaally can't wait to see what else they have in store

ok so im finally just gonna infodump about that dhmis au i just randomly started posting like a week ago almost, which ive just referred to as the dollhouse au. anyway infodumping under the cut lmao

so as i mentioned in the og comic for it, it was kinda inspired by ‘inside a mind’s theory abt the dhmis webseries but likeeee mostly for the aspect of red guy being the main focus + having some level of responsibility irt the situation, but anyway i mention this since its the basis of this au more or less

so the trio were all humans once, & were all connected in some sort of way. i havent determined the extent of their relationships but they def knew each other, and werent like borderline strangers. in my mind, red & duck were coworkers + friends (and potentially working on getting to be more than that, but never got there) and red & yellow had a familial, brotherly type of relationship (ive tossed around the possibility of them being maybe step-brothers or smth like that, idk like i said i havent determined the extent so take that w/ a grain of salt)

(also fyi yellow’s an adult & is younger than both red & duck by a somewhat significant amount, but he’s def just a neurodivergent adult man. theres not any plot significance, i just figured i’d say lol)

now these 3 definitely all have struggles in their lives, some of which have been reflected in the show (red’s inability to connect with others ‘like him,’ duck not actually liking being alone, yellow having a poor relationship w/ his dad, etc etc). their lives arent exactly horrible but its far from sunshine & daisies

(ive kinna debated the idea that maybe a significant event happened that negatively affected red in particular but idk i dont think i wanna make it melodramatic so lets just leave it as ‘their lives arent Perfect’ for now lol)

so at some point, red comes across an antique shop that’s never been there before, one that holds all of the puppet props as well as the dollhouse from the TV series, which red is given with the claim that it ‘belongs to him’ (& yes, the person that gives it to him is lesley). so red is just kinda like ‘ok ig’ & takes this totally normal dollhouse that won’t cause him problems in the future home w/ him. what could possibly go wrong

anyway i figure some time passes after he obtains the dollhouse but basically to make a short story shorter, he - & the other 2 - wind up getting trapped inside the dollhouse as puppets, so theyre stuck in there & then in the normal world theyre obvs labelled as missing. while they’re trapped in this dollhouse, they dont remember anything from their prev life - they do not remember being human, and they do not remember knowing each other as closely as they once did.

so before proceeding, i will say that in this au, both the webseries & the TV series occur in the timeline, & they do indeed occur one after the other, so the webseries is ‘season 1′ & the TV series is ‘season 2′ (& i think i will be referring to them as such throughout the rest of this dump bc its easier than specifying ‘webseries’ & ‘TV series’ each time lol)

so during s1, red guy is in ‘control’ - in the absolute loosest terms, bc obviously these puppets cant control SHIT, but all i mean by 'control’ is that their surroundings are reflective of a certain individual. in the case of s1, it is red. because of this, the trio is a little more self-aware (as red particularly was in s1), and they remember each incident that happens between episodes. obviously, things go downhill reaallllyyyy badly because red doesnt have a grip on anything, so we get some pretty nasty incidents. additionally, the world all around looks more realistic & uncanny while red has the reins

eventually, red accidentally leaves following dhmis 4, and this leads to him going into a version of the real world (obvs not the actual real world. whatever forces that have put him & his friends there aint done with him yet), which, as we all know, eventually leads to him pulling the plug on the world. now, he did this with the expectation that he & the other 2 would finally be free. but no, all it did was take the control out of his hands and put it into the hands of someone else

enter s2, i’m actually going to go ahead & say that ‘transport’ is the first thing that happens chronologically. so here we have red coming freshly out of s1′s events which were clearly traumatizing, and who also expected to be free of this hell puppet world only to find himself right back in the thick of it, so yeah, he’s a little on edge and stir crazy and wants to be free. but here’s the real kicker: none of them fully remember the events of s1. yellow & duck certainly dont, & red only has hints of feelings remaining from it, enough to make him frustrated, but not enough to remember the gory details. this is meant to be the hint that the ‘control’ has switched hands, since as i mentioned previously, they could remember what happened between incidents under red’s control. by the end of ‘transport’ whenever yellow reacts to hearing lesley’s voice, that’s the reveal in this au that yellow’s the next person to be ‘in control’

ways in s2 that show that yellow’s now control: things are definitely a lot softer, while still having their darker moments (compare this to yellow’s brain friends & how cute they were, then how that eventually went downhill) + the trio only have vague recollections of previous events (yellow evidently has some memory problems according to ‘friendship’), among other things. but basically, just judging on how the show treats yellow in s2, its reasonable enough to say in this au that he’s the next one in control of the dollhouse after red, who was evidently seen as an inappropriate fit

anyway thats about all i got atm lol, ive just been rotating this au in my brain for a while so i figured its abt time i like. actually write out most of the details gkjfhgjk. especially bc ppl seemed to like the lil drawings ive done for it, so < 3

Formatting a blog:

Definitely have a profile picture! This is your "face" on Tumblr ~

Headers are a ton of fun. You can basically do whatever you want with them - hide, stretch, use your profile picture, or create something of your own (I would not suggest taking someone's gif or something they created unless you have permission 🙏) If you want something fancy, feel free to ask someone (but check their guidelines first ofc)

I would suggest enabling a custom theme under your blog settings if you want to format the web browser/desktop version of your blog (https://[url].tumblr.com is different from the "dashboard/mobile" view found on https://tumblr.com/[url]). This can only be done in the web browser/desktop version of blog settings (and can be important for your description later)

^ Confusing, I know! If you have more questions lmk, it's sort of not necessary but it's fun for me to customize 😂

Making a pinned:

For example, ig you could say my layout/theme is based off a "streamer" concept lol. Some people keep it simple, some people just do whatever. Good news is you can always change it at your preference!

You do need to know some html coding but thankfully it's pretty straightforward and there are a lot of resources out there. I think html is still only editable on web browser/desktop version of tumblr. So you're best bet is to hit the edit theme button below (back to what we talked abt before 😂)

what is your gym routine if you don’t mind answering?

ahh omg first thing i should say is like i'm not really consistent w going to the gym bc my job hours are very poopy but also i'm very gym shy and when i go to the gym i go with my cousin and she acts like my pt kinda but i'm slowly transitioning to going by myself. also i just recovered from covid so it's been a week since i've last been to the gym.

i definitely recommend looking up workouts on tiktok and ig. read the comments as well because you might watch someone do a workout thinking it looks easy but their form might be completely wrong so yeah. one person my cousin and i use on ig is dianaconforti.fit

but for my routines i usually just do 4-5 sets and 8-12 reps of each depending on the weights i also use. for my back, last time i did it, i did 4 sets of 10 lat pull downs. i did 10kg for the first set n it felt too easy so i went up to 15kg and it almost killed me so i went back to 10kg for the third and went up to 15kg for the last set but just did 8 reps. and then single arm cable rows, 10kg on each arm and 4 sets but 2 on each arm with 10 reps. and i would've kept going with proper cable rows but i wanted to get out of the gym bc more were more people were coming. but this time i wanna finish that whole set with pull ups (2 sets of as many reps as possible [amrap]).

a really good full body workout that i like is kettlebell swings and i usually do 2 sets of amrap and i usually use 20kg to give myself a challenge. for arms, i stick with dumb bell exercises, i can't remember the names of them but you can easily find tiktoks for arm workout ideas. just remember if you're trying to make your arm not as muscly, don't use heavier weights. the lighter ones are the ones to go with if you just want tone them or make them leaner.

and omg my favourite workouts are for sure legs/glutes. rdls, squats, hip thrusts are the ones i love doing the most. bc it's the most painful workout for me so the masochist in me loves it. if you're a beginner, rdls can be really tricky so i recommend watching tons of videos to see how to do it properly and then practice your form in the mirror in your own room. for me what i remember is to start with my hips and push it out. and then i bend my knees just a bit as my back starts going down. keep your back straight as you do and idk when you look at the form in the mirror just remember how every part of your body feels like muscle memory works for me. i usually do 4 sets as well and just 10 reps with 8kg weights. with hip thrusts, my gym has a hip thrust machine so i thankfully don't have to use those huge weights but i usually go 10-15kg weights on both sides. i follow the 999 workout where it's 9 hip thrusts, 9 kas glute bridges and then a 9 second hold and it kills my glutes so bad omg.

ftr i think everyone moves at their own pace when it comes to physical affection / flirting and while it's amazing n loads of fun it can also be very stressful and tiring and vulnerable esp. if it's new so you definitely have nothing to feel bad about in terms of not being up for everything yet! it's good you're not feeling pressured into things and that you're giving yourself time to acclimatise.

i also think it's a great idea to communicate this stuff to him. obvs I don't know you or him but it sounds like it's more a question of pacing / taking things slow and I'm sure he'd want you to be comfortable first and foremost, so I would try not to worry about hurting his feelings? from his perspective I feel like if he knows your boundaries he can go about doing things at a speed that's going to be more enjoyable for both of you, and as you get more comfortable you guys will b able to figure out what u like doing together.

basically: bringing this stuff up is definitely scary but it sounds like ur in a relationship with someone who's willing to be understanding and like, once u and ur partner are on the same page abt physical stuff it feels sooo much more amazing even if ur barely 'doing' anything at all

ok !! this is kind of a new thing that i’m trying out, which is that i’m just gonna ramble about my process about certain pieces/comics/Whatevers that i draw! 

i’ll just be talking about my thoughts, drawing process, and also some struggles i had as i drew the whole thing. so if you’re interested in reading through all that and seeing some sketches/other bonus bits, keep on reading ! :-)c

OK !! god so this comic was SO fun to make, i had a great time planning things out, (mostly dialogue bubbles and where drawings will be cus i just love dialogue LOL) and also had a great time fussing about w 983749 overlays n whatnot (also becus feenie but shhh)

n e way since i really wanted this to come out good (+ just to get a general idea of how each page is going to be laid out) i made some thumbnails for each page! (shown below)

they’re very small, barebones, and very silly, but by making it i knew what i was kinda going for + it gave me a general idea of the layout of dialogue bubbles and where drawings will be (ig that’d be considered the composition? i’m not sure LOL). i always love planning out where bubbles will be in relation to the drawings (because i’m pretty sure that, with comics, dialogue bubbles kind of guide the reader’s eye through the page) so this was fun for me! i tried to keep the flow of the bubbles in mind to make sure everything was readable throughout the entire process of making this comic. also, with making thumbnails, i try to be quick about it, since i can fuss with the nitty-gritty of each page later on.

(ouuh but also notice that i didn’t really have anything planned for the Feenie Reveal page (the bottom right rectangle). that’s cause i just really had no idea how i wanted to draw him in at the time i was making thumbnails. this actually ended up making things v troublesome for me later on T_T (but we’ll get to that later!))

i then started out making more refined sketches of what each page is going to be like (shown below this paragraph; im sorry the pics are so big/make the post so long, tumblr formatting is a$$ T_T). to do this i basically just sized up each thumbnail to the size of the canvas and made more detailed sketches of what each page is going to be. this is kind of an important step, since this is what i later based my final lines off of (but i also don’t really have a streamlined process for making comics yet so i do tend to go back and forth with sketching & lines LOL). i also wrote in some of the dialogue here, just to make sure that the dialogue makes sense (though i did change/add some things later on!)

after that i just started going ham with drawing. as mentioned before, i don’t have a streamlined process with making comics so i still jump around between steps because my attention span is -7. i tried working on one page at a time, but again, -7 attention span, so i end up jumping between working on pages half the time LOL . . .

when i started putting down colours i struggled a bit since, initially, the colours i put down just didn’t seem right. i knew i wanted a dark background to represent it being like night time, but trying to make the colours of the lines, the characters, and other things work out was a wholeass mental workout. throughout struggling with the colours i always made sure to check the values of everything (chat bubbles, characters) to make sure everything makes a cohesive piece! i don’t have any pics for the colour process specifically, but i can show y’all the flats for the boys’ main fits:

after i laid down all my flats i just went ham with shading. i did two multiply layers for each characters; one for like cel shading & another for a more soft shading look. i also just went ham with the background since i discovered the beauty that is the luminance brushes on procreate. i used the pulse brush a lot just to add more life & colour into the background of most of the panels, since most of them were just a plain dark colour at that time & that’s just boring LOL

REAL QUICK b4 we continue !!! i wanna talk about my feenie struggle. god, idk whats up with this one but this feenie gave me SOOO much trouble 😭😭😭 maybe this is due to the lack of planning in the thumbnail stage, but i really have no clue T_T i usually have such a Good & Easy time drawing him T____T </3 (i think i just need to do more studies for the human body + face from diff angles. . . LOL . . .) 

but yeah ! for the final page i think i redrew him like 3-4 times total bc i couldn’t nail his pose + face down; i nailed miles in like the first or second go. i also had to like resize miles & feenie at some points bc they didn’t take up As Much Space in the panels as i’d like, since i didn’t want there to be an awkward thing of just Blank Space in the comic (if that makes sense). so that’s something i’m still trying to learn !

after all of that i just finished up the dialogue bubbles + text. also, real quick add-on: throughout the whole process i keep going back to make sure that the dialogue bubbles + character drawings r balanced out & has a nice flow! also also, with the text/dialogue i debated using my handwriting vs the text tool for dialogue. i wanted a more Organic feel so i wanted to use my handwriting, but then realized my handwriting is absolute sh!t so i just used the text tool LOL 

after adding in the text, i keep moving things around (bc, again, probs due to a lack of planning) and just fussed with everything until i like how things look. i added overlay layers, a lot of bokeh effect things, found a brush that did a heart bokeh thing (bless the person who created that btw holy sh1t), added a flat colour layer (i think i used a pink-ish colour) with the noise effect to add Texture etc etc. 

and then i was pretty much done ! :-Dc

i definitely get the dislike because some aspects of the story are questionable like our morals are of course totally different to what it was to live in the 15th century. but i still like it so much regardless 😭 i always assume romeo definitely is closer to juliets age i believe that she is 13-16? i take it with a grain of salt because in the og she is around 16 while shakespeare makes her of barely 13-14? and romeo is also said to be very young. i think it’s a way to contrast two children to the rest of the characters who are grown ass adults. but romeo is def in her age range (which is 15-18)? paris is an adult (like mid to late 20s) and her family just. threatens to disown her unless she marries him so i definitely get why she did what she did. idk. and young people are dumb asf 😭 i am still fucking dumb even as a young adult but that’s just expected of me ig. even when people become of age i look at them and they’re just children? if i look at an eighteen year old to someone in their 20s it’s so different it ends up making me sad. also the death of mercutio pushing romeo to kill tybalt, i can’t condemn romeo for it bc it was done in his grief 😔 and tybalt should be around their age too if not a little older and you can’t hate him because they were all raised in a shitty environment. i can only hate all of the adults around them for existing ☠️lmfao but. sorry i brought it up 😭 i didn’t know you hated it! i was just very upset because i found people who would just minimize what they were all going through and saying things like they weren’t really in love or that they were so stupid to fall in love in three days and comparing it to stories written today and using presentism to look at the past (which i am also guilty of too often tbh). but also it’s just literature? we may all be bitter enough to believe love at first sight is fake but this is fictional and we’re just the third party looking at it how unlucky they are. but gosh i hate fiction too for not giving them a happy ending too. yes i’m also thinking of levi and hange ✋😭 what’s wrong with me!!! also remembering the 104th are barely adults hnng. except maybe eren who knows the future and everything. he’s like middle aged in my eyes ☠️ he acts old too. but he’s so stupid i can’t sympathize w him

actually my issues with the story totally stem from personal shit that happened with a person who some years ago happened to be obsessed with it and now my traumatized ass can’t separate the two things anymore 💀💀💀 i appreciate it a lot from the literary point of view tho #justenglishliteraturestudentthings🌈

we all do it, hell i do it too, but we should all be objective and rational when it comes to these matters skfjdjjsjd of course today our concept of what constitutes a good love story to read has VASTLY changed, but our present conception is the direct consequence of the existence of the past one? and acknowledging that doesn’t mean “justifying” a “bad” story? the two things can co-exist, we can look at romeo and juliet through our modern lens and claim that yes objectively these two are “dumb teenagers” by our modern standards of common sense, and we can also look at them and claim that they are a product of their time in which stories and characters like theirs were really ideally romantic AND we can look at them and recognize that many things happening in the story are kinda fucked up AND we can look at them and recognize that while being fucked up they are, again, a product of their time and, by yesterday’s common sense, “normal”. whoop there we go, would you look at all these things that can co-exist at the same time! but again people are really allergic to nuance LOL

like i am PRETTY sure if someone in my english course dared to unironically and seriously call romeo and juliet “dumb teenagers” in relation to our modern perception my teacher would (rightfully) whoop their ass for not keeping the context, the history and all that into account 😭😭

but tldr; i am not giving up on bellarke, i still think they’ll be endgame. i may be clowning, but i’ll clown til the credits roll. :))

the main thing is that everyone on twitter (and tons of ppl here too obvi) immediately assumes the worst possible outcomes and i just try to keep an optimistic mindset until watching the ep

so first off: the sneak peak we got today. everyone’s immediate reaction: “oh no b*cho breakup isn’t happening!” and i’m like uhhh first off if it’s happening why would they post it in the sneak peak. in the promo we see a scene w bell & echo (which isn’t in the sneak peak) so it’s still possible that can be a breakup scene.

second: the whole TT interview. i try not to get too involved in the cast cause they’re not the ppl i watch the show for. i watch the show for the fictional characters. but i do know that TT has had a history of baiting blarkes and honestly anything that the cast says, i take with a grain of salt. i highly doubt she would spoil the end of the show. i think she was just giving her own opinions on bellarke, that’s all.

and why would jason fuck over his own show? not giving us this practically ruins his chances of getting his prequel picked up. idk i just think narratively it wouldn’t make sense for them to not get together after 7 seasons of build up. but that’s just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.

i think overall the thing is everyone likes to assume what’s gonna happen without watching the episode. i like to hold off on being pessimistic until the episode airs. obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they can post whatever they want whenever they want; everyone is free to speak their thoughts. i just personally don’t handle negativity well bc it kills my mood so i try to stay away from it and keep a hopeful mindset :)

and yeah ik that i got myself into this when i decided to be a more active part of the fandom but this show has sucked me in so i’m just waiting for it to be over at this point so ik how it ends! i’m still super excited for tmrw’s ep even if i’m setting myself up for disappointment.

so tldr; despite everything that happens, i’m holding out hope for bellarke until the credits roll (and ig we’ll find out if i was clowning then)
