Yuuri’s anxiety is such a large part of the show and is frequently shown as an obstacle he must overcome, but I really appreciate that it is never shown as a barrier. Nothing is made impossible to Yuuri because of his anxiety, acting instead as an additional challenge he must address in order to get to where he wants to be. He is stronger because of it, in a lot of ways.

I hate when media infantilizes anxious people and diminishes their ability to accomplish things. Sure, it may be harder to reach your goals when you’re fending off a panic attack, but Yuuri managing it through seemingly sheer determination proves that he is anything but “mentally weak.” Watching Viktor learn how to deal with it is also very meaningful, especially again because he does not treat Yuuri as any lesser because of it.

Something I love most about Victor is just how shameless he is about loving Yuuri.

Throughout the entire series, Victor is depicted showing his affection for Yuuri very publicly.

A few examples of this being...

When Victor hugged Yuuri from behind in front of the entire audience at the CSK championship.

When Victor got completely drunk and started hanging off of Yuuri in front of everyone before the Cup of China, and had absolutely no complaints about the picture Phichit posted of them.

When Victor wrapped his arms around Yuuri's waist while resting his head on his shoulder in front of the other skaters at the Cup of China

When Victor kissed him in front of thousands of people on live television at the Cup of China.

When Victor publicly announced their engagement the rest of the gpf skaters + the others around them who were also there to witness it in Barcelona.

Must I go on?

Moral of the story is, he's so proud of being able to love Yuuri that he doesn't even care about his title as the 'living legend of figure skating' who went off to coach some 'dime a dozen' Japanese figure skater. He doesn't let the possibility of backlash affect the way he shows his partner his love, and he doesn't care about what anyone else has to say about their relationship but the two of them, and I think that's such an amazingly healthy aspect about their relationship that just isn't talked about enough.

It says so much about Victor as a character. It shows that Yuuri is so much more than just his student, fellow competitor, or fan. He sees Yuuri as his equal, and as someone worthy of showing off and taking care of. He loves Yuuri enough to put him above his title, and to sacrifice his competitive skating career for him. He refers to Yuuri as his life and his love, and was absolutely devastated at the idea of Yuuri not needing him as his coach anymore.

He loves Yuuri more than words, and everyday I grow even more upset that we never got to see more of them.

Every few months, the two brothers would schedule to meet up for lunch, Yuuri moving to Russia and (name) living in Canada made things hard but the two made it work.

"This is Chris and you remember Phichit!" Yuuri introduced them as (name) shook their hands, Yuuri always teasing about how westernized his brother had become but (name) knew he was happy for him.

"Pleasure to meet you, how are you enjoying Canada?" He asked as they sat down and Yuuri grinned "everytime I visit, it's like it's completely changed but hasn't at the same time!" He liked Toronto, he associated it with his brother so therefore it was perfect.

"Very loud! And the lake smells" Phichit said simply and (name) chuckled "yeah, it smells really bad... Apparently it's because of pollution" (name) was so casual and calm as he spoke, body covered in tattoos and looking at them they were obviously siblings, same smile... Though (name) looked considerably more wild and trendy where Yuuri looked more refined and conservative.

"An artist?" Chris seemed curious as (name) beamed and pulled out his phone to show all his work on Instagram "I work with all sorts of mediums-- I always try new things" Chris could see the passion in his words and his art spoke for him, it was genuinely quite impressive as Phichit was already looking through it and liking every photo "whoa! You made a sculpture of (insert celebrity)!" He gawked as he showed the photo to the others "yeah, it was for an auction..." (Name) Said shyly, Chris could now see the personality similarity.

Both were very bad with compliments.

The four chatted for about skating and life and by the end, (name) had two new numbers in his contacts as Chris kept getting closer to him "you got good cologne..." (Name) Said bluntly as he sniffed the others jacket, Yuuri sighing at the fact that Chris was clearly flirting with his brother and (name) was a dense fucker who had no qualms with getting closer to people.

"You can come to my hotel and smell it better if you like~" Chris teased and (name) raised an eyebrow and tilted his head "maybe when I see Yuuri again you can give it to me" he said simply and smiled at the other, Chris was a little shocked at how dense he was "anyways, I better get going! It was nice seeing you!" (Name) And Yuuri hugged and the other two watched how tightly they hugged, clearly missing one another.

Yuuri always worried for (name), the man tended to isolate himself in his art as he and Viktor went back to Canada two months later to check on him "(name)?" Yuuri called as he looked around the large apartment, his brothers works giving him the finances to afford this place. "Wow..." Yuuri said as he walked into the livingroom area where (name) stood in a messy t-shirt and joggers, feet bare as he painted with his bare hands on a large canvas..." Is that Chris?" Viktor asked his husband who nodded, the two looking around to see that the Japanese man had painted and drew amongst other forms of media, works of Chris everywhere.

"(Name), what the fuck" Yuuri said in Japanese, looking around in shock "oh... Hey" (name) said casually, exhausted but somehow still standing and painting "want to explain ALL THESE PAINTINGS" Yuuri waved his arms around to the paintings as Viktor let the siblings to at it "great dimension, (name)!" Viktor said pointing to a landscape painting and (name) looked proud of himself "he has excellent facial proportions, like drawing Aphrodite..." (Name) Smiled as he looked around "I don't know why... He's just perfect for painting... He's a muse"

Yuuri and Viktor looked at each other, the two knew (name) well enough to know what this was, Viktor only a few years but Yuuri... He knew what this was.

(Name) Never really shown interest in others, always in his own world and tended to do his own thing.

He was in love, even if he didn't know he was.

Yuuri ordered food for his brother, knowing the fucker didn't know how to cook for the life of him.

"How do you survive without being able to cook" Viktor said slightly horrified and (name) huffed "I can cook the important stuff! Like rice!" He said indignantly as Yuuri rolled his eyes "yes yes, you can cook the thing you ate everyday" the two siblings bickered as Viktor drank his coffee and watched, his brother in law being a shitling (fondly) as Yuuri scolded him "ordering party servings of food and eating it over a week isn't good!"

"It's called efficiency!"

It was nice despite the bickering, to see the love between the two.

"Do you even talk to him?"

"We talk like daily" (name) said crossing his arms "he's quite a chatter, though he keeps talking in cryptic messages" he said showing the texts where Chris was just blatantly flirting "I don't understand it at all!"

"(Name), never change" Yuuri said simply and his brother looked confused before looking at the messages with a squint.

Yuuri and Viktor looked at the paintings, they were detailed now to the light freckles on the Swiss man's face during the summer, (name) must have been looking at those photos intently as Yuuri set down drinks "how much was that one painting again?" Viktor asked and (name) shrugged "you can just have it if you want" he said simply and Viktor was gonna leave a few hundred, he was not taking that painting for free.

"So what brings you back so soon?" (Name) Asked curiously, sipping his iced coffee as he sat incorrectly on a chair "you have been radio silent for two months, you sent me a single picture of a snail and said 'hes for rizz' and nothing else" Yuuri said incredulously and (name) nodded "lil man had mad game with the lady snails" he said like he was inspired by the snail and Viktor felt the need for a drink with his brother in law "(name) you basically dropped off the face of the earth, you don't do that.. Im worried"

(Name) Sighed and closed his eyes for a moment before opening them "I don't know, genuinely... I got lost in my art and... Mari messaged me... I'm just freaking out" he said softly and looked at his brother "sorry for ghosting... I'm just --- mari wants me to visit and I have been putting it off for forever and I just don't want to deal with mom and dad"

It was no secret to Yuuri and Viktor that (name) had a complicated relationship with the Katsuki parents, it was partly why he moved to Canada.

"We can go together next month, how about that?"

"...fine..." He said simply and Yuuri hugged him, the conversation moving to other topics and the two ended the visit with a photo taken by Viktor who smiled at the brothers, no one realizing the painting of Chris in the background as it was posted.

"It's like looking in a mirror" Chris said simply as he stared at the photo of his friends.

He needed to call Viktor.

Despite the seeming death of civilization at the hands of a malicious robotic empire, the two always manage to find happiness in the little things they encounter along their adventure.

Girls' Last Tour is such an amazing manga. Both the art, story, and characters are so wonderfully pleasant despite it taking place in a post-apocalyptic world. And me, constantly having Sonic brainrot, somehow managed to connect the two series' themes and came up with this.

I imagine the story would be largely the same, but with some interactions differing because, well, it's not Chito and Yuuri anymore- it's Sonic and Tails. Or I guess Nicky and Miles. Their names are different here, and they have the same backstory as Chito and Yuuri, but they're pretty much the same as they originally were personality-wise. The same existential/philosophical themes would still be present.

I changed the color pallet a bit and added some glowing effects to make it a bit more whimsical, but overall I tried to mimic the original style as best I could. It's not perfect, but I'm proud of it anyway :]

yuri on ice being cancelled is still really devastating but it gave me so many things i would never have if I didnt see it. I originally didnt plan on watching this series when it came out so when I saw episode three aired and I got wind of Yuri Plisetskys design, I sat my happy ass down and watched it on Youtube and I was HOOKED.

I grew with Yuuri Katsuki over the short season this show aired for and he truly was the reason for my self discovery and I wanted to be him so so bad and I realized i was transgender and that like. I was okay!!!! I was allowed to be myself and do self discovery. I looked up to him and abnormal amount and I remember telling myself that I wanted to be the kind of man he is. I wanted to be the kind of person who kept trying to improve myself, to be proud of myself and love my passions and the people around me.

Its always made me upset that people say Yuri on Ice is poor gay rep when it genuinely helped me realize who I was as a person and I wouldnt have known if I didnt have this series. It had a profound impact on me and its forever a beautiful story that is so much more than iceskating and romance.

Self love is just as important and if Yuri on Ice taught me anything, it was that.

Victor never hears from the beautiful Japanese skater after Sochi. He choreographs On Love: Eros because he can’t quite let go, but it’s getting harder to push himself on the ice and the cracks are starting to show.

Two lost individuals take a different route to find love and life, but they eventually get there all the same.

Yuuri shouldn’t. He knows it’ll feel awful to watch everyone he knows trying their best at something he loves when he can’t anymore. But it’s Phichit’s first year in the Grand Prix, and Victor’s competing, so…

“Of course,” he says, and is proud of how steady his voice comes out. He doesn’t know if it’s a lie or not.

(Or: in which Yuuri's Stammi Vicino skate never gets posted and he retires, Victor keeps himself skating for better or for worse, Yuri struggles with his debut, and missed opportunities have a way of righting themselves.)

Viktor's (post-canon) turmoil around Yuuri's retirement

I've often thought about how Viktor might handle the realities around Yuuri's eventual retirement from competition, both from a coach standpoint, as well as a partner standpoint.

I'd imagine that his idealized version could be summed up by the following thoughts:

1) "Wow! My darling Yuuri (and beloved husband) has so much to be proud of!"

2) *Runs through an internal list of Yuuri's many accomplishments, including his gold medal win at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games, which will probably be followed by another gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Games*

3) "He's come so far, by way of his own tenacity and hard work, as well as the strength he derives from the relationship we have on and off the ice. I feel so privileged to support him as we navigate this next chapter of our lives."

4) "I can't wait to partner with Phichit to co-plan a retirement party that is perfectly fitting with his tastes (i.e. as much as I'd really like to invite the entire country of Japan to attend, as well as hold a week-long parade in Hasetsu marked by 20 feet tall floats of Yuuri in every single one of his Free Skate program costumes over the years, I'll exercise restraint)"

But the reality?

I honestly think Viktor would be a mess, and there's a good chance that such a big change in their lives would trigger his own insecurities.

I have some pretty bleak headcanons around Viktor's past, and believe he probably has some form of complex PTSD from childhood emotional neglect/trauma. Perhaps he was able to blunt a lot of this pain through avoidance (i.e. immersing himself totally and completely into the impossibly high demands of an elite figure skating career), but he's likely had to work on healing by way of being in a serious, long-term relationship with Yuuri.

But no matter how much healing we've done, trauma can manifest in surprising and disconcerting ways.

In thinking about the end of his tenure as Yuuri's coach, it could very well be that Viktor starts to panic. When he's no longer in such a role, will he still be 'useful' to Yuuri?

Will he still be able to hold his husband's interest? What will happen if Yuuri suddenly finds him boring when their lives don't involve the high-pace rigor of competition and training anymore? Could he forget how to "surprise" him?

Thinking about this transitional period in their lives motivated me to write a 55K Viktor POV story set during the summer before Yuuri's impending retirement (right after the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games). While it has a somewhat crack-y premise (i.e. Viktor convinces Yuuri to become his pole-dancing "coach"), you'll find that this story contains some major feels as it pertains to Viktor trusting Yuuri with his insecurities.

It's part of my larger 2018/2022 Olympic Games fic series, but I think it can still be enjoyed even without having read the other parts of the series (and in the beginning author's note, I relay some important context that'll help folks if they haven't read the main fic).

Below is an excerpt from Chapter 2, when in attempting to inform their friends that Yuuri will become his pole-dancing coach, Yuuri's drunkenness leads everyone to misunderstand, thinking that 1) he's planning on becoming Viktor's skating coach and 2) that Viktor is "unretiring", lol.

Note of context & content warning: 1) Yuuri and Viktor now live in Fukuoka, Japan, and Viktor coaches both Yuuri and Yurio (Yura) at the same rink as Minami Kenjirou and 2) this excerpt contains mentions of alcohol consumption

Yuuri was now blinking at Ryuichi, looking puzzled. Without warning, he slapped his hand down on the table, making a good number of them jump.

“I’m gonna be Vitya’s coach!” he crowed, his eyes growing huge and sparkly.

Instantly, Viktor was reminded of that life-changing Sochi banquet night when the love of his life had humped his thigh while begging for him to come to Hasetsu.

Pffffftttttt!

A spray of sake just narrowly missed Yuuri, but, unfortunately, Niko and Kenjirou weren’t able to escape Yura’s spewing.

Sharp yelps and choice swears overlapped, and a few seconds of confusion ensued, during which time nobody seemed to know where to direct their attention.

“Viktor-sensei, you’re coming back to competition?” Izumi shrieked in his direction, while patting at Niko’s face with some napkins. (Actually, she was missing completely and patting her shoulder instead, as she didn’t seem to be able to take her eyes off of him).

“What the fuck, geezer, don’t tell me you’ve finally lost it?!” Yurio spluttered next, staring daggers at him.

He seemed largely unbothered by the fact that Kenjirou was using the sleeve of his t-shirt to wipe his face.

“You’re like a million years old, there’s no way you can do this,” his student continued, heatedly. “But more importantly: LIKE HELL YOU WILL, YOU’RE MY FUCKING COACH NOW. There’ll be none of this double-duty nonsense that you tried to pull four years ago!”

“Oooh, I hadn’t given much thought to competitions yet,” Yuuri then interjected, with a blissful, silly grin, while Ryuichi gaped at him.

He looked a bit horrified, as if Yuuri had suddenly announced that he found katsudon repulsive.

Viktor let his heart-shaped smile take over his face, thoroughly enjoying their friends’ shocked reactions to his husband’s drunken miscommunication. It wasn’t as if he was reluctant for them to find out that the ‘coaching’ Yuuri had mentioned was in reference to pole-dancing, and not figure skating. After all, his spouse’s local popularity as a pole instructor was hardly a secret, and Viktor knew for a fact that if they had more time in their schedules, both Izumi and Wakaba would be interested in taking some classes. Rather, it was simply more fun to see what the reactions to his “unretiring” were.

He half-expected Yura to FaceTime Yakov somewhere in the next twenty seconds, begging their former coach to rage at him until he saw sense.

“Yuuri-senpai, you know I think the absolute world of you,” Kenjirou began, still patting his face while gesturing emphatically in his idol’s direction. “But isn’t this a bad idea? Are you really sure you want to coach Viktor-sensei? You’re not even retired yet!”

Yuuri’s vacant, silly grin disappeared, and he appeared to give up on trying to fish out the lemon slice from his shochu cocktail.

The glint of determination that Viktor so adored began to dance fiercely in his dark eyes, and Kenjirou gulped, looking appropriately intimidated.

“Oh, I see, you don’t think I’m up to the task? You think I’m just a softie, that I’ll go easy on him because I love him?” Yuuri asked, sharply, his words having lost that soft, hazy patina of inebriation.

At this accusation, Kenjirou’s eyes widened, but before he could correct this assumption, Yuuri went on, locking eyes not only with Kenjirou, but with each of their friends, who were staring at him, looking wary. Even the ever-stoic Otabek looked a bit unnerved.

Some rambles about the YV boys relationship with the listeners

Also I love how the Yuuri boys don't feel so perfect compared to those copy and paste boyfriend asmr roleplays that show up everywhere. Like they have flaws, secrets, pasts and well fleshed out characteristics that you can either hate or love. But if there's something that can like they actually talk with the listner like Auron and Alphonse does. With Auron about their relationship being. Real and Alphonse about his feelings with Seth when he came back in Bittersweet.

With Charlie it shows how a scumbag changed so much bc he was in the wrong group of people. But when he finally got a way out he fixed himself, and when he finally saw Casper again he tried hard to be a better man that they can be proud and brag about to other people. I also love how the truth they had as children was shown in their new stronger relationship like how he told then how he had to out some people and do shitty stuff to survive Ina gang and also to get intell for his boss.

With Faust even so far we can see how he's so relatable with the random and outta pocket shit he says. Also with how he acts with Auron, bc of course your gonna be mad at the kid who was brought into your family bc your dad started to pay attention to him. I feel like there's some jealousy of how his dad took a liking to Auron and not him. I wonder rid his dad even liked his mom or was it for like power or something. But anyway, we can see how Faust already wanted to change but meeting someone like Star made him want to open up to people more since Star was so nice to him. How maybe not everyone is out to get him bc he was a nepotism baby.

With Finn it's nice to see how he was so shy first when meeting him. But slowly he got more confident with Sunflower just like you would in any relationship. Or like how he knew people didn't like his ramblings sometimes and how he got flushed when Sunflower told him no continue I love hearing you talk basically. Also how he just so comfortable with someone in a relationship since the last one was shitty.

With Lucien we can see how he didn't care about this human that summoned him somehow. But after time went on he became so concerned about their living he stayed, also bc how are you gonna scold a demon over making a sandwich in your kitchen? But the fact the amount of time Lucien spent with Angel build enough trust to tell them his name which mind you is VERY serious for him. And also the fact he was able to follow his passion with cooking bc of Angel!

Since we don't know a lot about Jack bc he dosnet really have a story I think it would be intreasting to see what his story would be about!

Victor turned back to him, supernova smile in place once more. “I really, really like you. Promise you’ll still dance with me at the banquet if you take gold this time around.”

Yuuri stared at the man. He looked at their entwined hands—he hadn’t wanted to pull away—and their thighs, pressed together despite there being plenty of room in the backseat of the cab. That scent of Victor’s cologne—just a dab, lightly applied somewhere on his neck—swirled around him. This was too real to be a dream, too physical for him to have imagined it.

“I’m sorry,” Yuuri said slowly. “But…have we talked before?”

The 40: Catch the Bullet

I decided to bust out my drawing tablet and use Photoshop again to create a comic for The 40, and I will say...it's a start for me to brush up on my digital illustration skills.

Izuku has come a long way after his year-long intense training regiment compared to his Pre-Character Development self. But the most gracious physical feat he had performed that would make Bakugou jealous and All Might proud, was being able to catch a bullet fired from a revolver.

I was looking over Alan Moore's well-known comic, Watchmen, and was greatly interested in Ozymandias' character and the astonishing physical and mental feats he's able to perform after dedicating himself to training his mind and body by retracing the steps of Alexander the Great by traveling the world. The one thing that interests me about how he managed to become what he is, is through his interview in the second to last issue. Where Adrian firmly believes that anyone can do what he can achieve, as you need to have the belief and willpower to see it through.

And what do you know...Izuku manages to do the impossible after the many trials that await him in the year-long intense training regiment. Reacting immediately upon seeing an unknown assailant pull a revolver on him, and summoning all of his willpower and technique to time his catching of the bullet correctly. However, like with Ozymandias, Izuku's skin was damaged from the bullet due to the obvious friction from the speed it had. But it's still a great accomplishment compared to his pre-training self, as the bullet would've burst through his hand and killed him, never mind the idea that he could actually catch it.

It is that time of year, so I'm here to tell you all about my beloved mermaid victuuri story that I wrote... almost 5 years ago (???).

Sea Change, a 70k completed victuuri fanfic featuring mer Victor and marine biologist Yuuri, as well as cameos from a variety of skater-as-scientist, an exhausted intern Yurio, and hacker Phichit.

Mind the tags for warnings of human experimentation and body horror! But this is one of the things I am most proud of writing, and I still reread it, because dammit, I still love it. I promise a happy ending, and a short sequel with even more happy ending (and a little more angst).
