(casually, cutely, and without any pressure meant) do you have planned a certain number of chapters for your akechi palace au... i dont usually reads WIPs but i wanna read this fic soooooooooooooo badly i love your writing
(flips open my huge planning binder which immediately crushes a small city) YES and it's changed multiple times but i just recently (like two days ago) did an entire restructuring of it so now i have a much better idea of how many chapters are left although i don't want to commit to that because my plan has already changed like six times. at the moment it is looking like
ok hold on a second i just accidentally hit ctrl v and pasted like 2000 words of tax law into this ask i need to reorient myself here
at the moment it's looking like eleven chapters or possibly ten chapters or possibly even twelve chapters depending on how hard i fuck it but i am CURRENTLY planning for eleven (ten and an epilogue). i just posted 7, 8 is almost fully drafted, the rest are planned and have drafts and notes in place and i know what beats i need to hit
thank you so much for ur kind words and for wanting to give it a shot it means so much to me!!! HOWEVER i absolutely would not blame you if you didn't wanna pick this up until it's done given i started planning this fic in 2019 and it is now... checks watch... the year 3000. not much has changed but we live underwater. ill try really hard to finish it though i promise.

Beautiful Stranger
(college au!alhaitham x f!reader - inspired by laufey’s “beautiful stranger”)
Tumblr media
Alhaitham would be the type of man to double major. As a man that loves to see connectivity from the very root of things, he’d definitely be a History/Linguistics Major.
He’s definitely the type of man to just show up to classes and leave the minute the system says it should end. A lecture ends at 10:50 AM? He’ll be out the door the minute he sees his watch change numbers. If he finds his professor to be terrible on “rate my professor”? He’ll simply come on syllabus day and test days.
The man is busy! He surely would find a way to sustain himself. He’ll probably start off as a tutor in the student center to teach students within his majors. If there’s empty days, he’d surely be the type to simply catch up on his work.
His phone would be on “Do Not Disturb '' 90% of the time. The remaining 10% is due to an argument his roommate Kaveh strikes about not seeing emergency notifications. Not that taking off the mode would make a difference anyways. The only people actively contacting him are Kaveh or other classmates from pre-requisite classes like Tighnari or Cyno.
He practically graduates with perfect grades and a stellar GPA from undergrad. It’s almost astonishing how a man that’s rarely around manages to be graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors.
By the time he joins a master’s program, he’s seeming to be set on what he wants to do now. He doesn’t seem to enjoy tutoring all too much, so professor is out of the question. However, the idea of conservation and working on archives catches his interest. Preferably, a library preservation technician. Yes, a job with minimal communication, yet a close up look at documents that he has either studied or not? It seems almost ideal!
He has already found a path to graduating with a masters degree too, already having planned out how to tackle writing his thesis with ease unlike his peers. However, there’s been a string of inconveniences he’s been experiencing lately in his own place: Kaveh. Kaveh has been hammering away at making his own architectural models. While Alhaitham didn’t really see this as a dealbreaker of living conditions, he won’t deny how his precious sleep gets lost, even if his soundproof earpieces are on his ears.
Two weeks and no improvement, he decides to go against his usual decision making and decides to make a late night stop to the library of the university. He finds it to be easy enough; he lives quite near it, and certainly no one would be there. It’s almost perfect. He finds the floor with the study rooms, finding a desk with the outlets and sitting on it with what he considers a content look on his face. However, it’s when he takes a quick look around that he realizes that he’s not the only one. There’s you.
Now, you were definitely quite the sight. You were in the study room across his, the clear plexiglass separating you both. You two were technically facing each other, yet the laptops you two were typing away at were enough to cover most of what you two were doing. He saw you with a comfortable appearance of a sweatshirt and some sweats, your position on your chair quite comfortable as you hacked away at your own work. The only time he managed to fixate on your workspace was when he was deciding to stretch his arms. He took in all the formulas on your papers, all the charts and plots you’ve made, and the handwritten notes with long words and arrows between them. He saw the word “metabolic pathways” and deduced that you were a science major at the very least.
“Alright. Cool. Back to work.” He told himself. And he was working quite well. However, he wouldn’t lie, he found the way you studied to be quite amusing. He’s passed by a good amount of students in the library when he was tutoring. Some people were quiet and worked away, some people probably brought in food, some people even cried and slammed their laptops shut. However, you seemed to be in your own little world. You had your tablet being your own main source of brainstorming, you had your papers scattered by chapters, and you had brought some food for yourself and…coffee?
The sight of the huge cup slowly being drained by your constant sipping almost made him want to chuckle. Almost. His long fingers stayed idle as he watched you quietly mouthing the words to whatever song you had in your headphones, your head bopping along with the tune.
“Hmph.” He’d grunt, going back to his work. The next time he’d look up at you is when you went to tap him on the shoulder. “Excuse me?” A voice asks, making him take off an earpiece and look back. Sure enough, it’s “science lady”, as he has dubbed you. “Yes?” He asked. He wanted to look amiable enough for you to talk to him, but you saw his plain look on his face. He almost looked…unamused. You suddenly felt so embarrassed to disturb him at this ungodly hour. “Do you mind watching my stuff? I’m going to be using the bathroom.”
The question made him scoff before he realized: Why would he need to watch over it? Everyone looked like they’d be doing nothing of the sort, but still, seeing the look on your face made him realize it was an earnest question. And so, he decides to agree. Seeing your face brighten accompanied with an earnest thanks almost made him want to smile. Almost. He saw the way you briskly walked to the bathroom, which only amused him more.
The coffee only gets to you after how much you’ve been drinking it. Though, you couldn’t get over how cute this guy looked! Did he look kinda scary? Yeah, but you couldn’t deny that he looked quite cute. Though, you couldn’t help but wonder if it was because you were cooped in your research lab so much that you found anything amusing nowadays, including this mystery guy. Still, he had interesting eyes, you had to admit it. You liked his shaggy silver hair, the way he casually came in and seemed so fixated on his work. What a shame it might be a one time thing. Oh, how did this library crush become part of your thoughts so quickly while you washed your hands.
You thank him as you return to your seat with a little thumbs up, and he only sends you a little smile back. You would be lying if you said that the little curve at the edge of his lip made you wanna squeal. What you didn’t see was that his green eyes were staring at you as you sat down, waiting for you to see a particular item. And you saw it, alright. He can tell just by the raise of your brows and your wide eyes. It was right on your keyboard of the laptop, a paper torn out of the corner of his notebook. His penmanship was quite remarkable, and the contents of it amused you: “Maybe a little water would be more efficient than that coffee you’re chugging, no?”
Alhaitham practically was curious to see how you’d react. He could only gauge your reaction from your eyes, seeing your hand reach for a piece of paper before your head disappears behind the screen. He didn’t know what you were thinking either when you passed back a paper to him. It was a blank page which only contained your handwriting: “My water bottle actually spilled on my way here.” Next to it was a little sad face next to it.
Now, Alhaitham wasn’t prepared for that type of wholesome response. In fact, he’s surprised that it went as well as it did. He saw you practically scurry back to your studying table with a tiny smile on your face, your eyes back to focusing on work. However, it did not go without you making a little scene of taking yet another sip of your coffee from your large cup. It didn’t occur to him till you gave him a tiny smile that he was stealing glances your way a little too much. He was long done with his workload for the night, yet something bolted him to his seat. There was something that kept him in this crowd of procrastinating students.
Though, it’s clear that you were trying to be diligent despite your antics. He couldn’t deny that he found the way your lips pout as you concentrated on an endearing sight, or that you were the one he’s been oddly eyeing in this busy space. He was a bit let down seeing that you wouldn’t be looking his way for a while. You didn’t look at anything but your work until a push of a chair is heard, the tall man is seen making his way out. Your eyes carefully watch him with some sort of melancholy stirring in your heart, wishing he stayed longer, or that he wrote even just one more note to you.
Little did you know that as Alhaitham kicks off his shoes at his house’s foyer, he’s left thinking of a particular science girl chugging on coffee, clinging onto the post-it with a particular someone’s scribbles and sad face. Little did you know that the man was thinking of an excuse to visit the library tomorrow night, wondering if you’d be there.

It girl Manifesting/Scripting List ✨🤍✨
I am ready to commit to the It Girl lifestyle. I’m determined to become the woman I want to be and learn to embrace and celebrate my accomplishments. I’ve tried in the past, but it never quite took off the ground. This time, I'm going in with a plan! Below are some overarching ways I want to bring more abundance into my life.
Consistently practicing gratitude, I have been immensely blessed for everything I accomplished and the support system I have gained over the years. Very grateful for every opportunity as it's what made me the woman I am today. The first step to abundance is gratitude.
Financial Stability: I want to have the confidence that I can handle unexpected expenses while also giving myself a better quality of life. Release my scarcity mindset. Save up to 6 months of expenses. Complete the 52-week saving challenge.
Confidence in my work, remember that I am new, take everything as a learning lesson, and follow the rules.
Positive self image, believe that I am enough. See my inner/outer beauty. Put more effort into my appearance.
Building healthy routines, hair appointments, eyebrow appointments. Have a planning routine and new hygiene routines.
Taking care of my health, return to the dentist. It is very overwhelming, and I need so much done.
Moving out of the state, options are Houston and NYC. I want to go to NYC and move in with my dad's side of the family. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, and I need a time-out. I also enjoy a better quality of life. NYC has amazing food and architecture, and I will never be bored. The job market is pretty competitive, so I'm working on my resume and have confidence that I am a valuable candidate.
Consistent blogging/content, start an IG documenting my It girl/wellness/career journey. It gives me a way to romanticize my life. It would also provide me with practice in creating a posting schedule and organizing my ideas.
Letting love back into my life, after my break up I shut my heart down and kept the world at arm's length. Now, I want to return to the dating world, and I like to transition smoothly.
Accepting a job in NYC, it's also vital for it to be very similar to my role now. I want to stay in the GRC space.
This is not everything I want to do, but this is an excellent place to start. I'm so ready for this glow-up. My mind is there; all I have to do is plan and execute.
Cheers to new beginnings. May my blessings and yours overflow! 🥂✨🤍

[Bleach 071]
IT'S BLORBO FROM MY SHOWS, IT'S BLORBO FROM MY SHOWS!!!! I shout, except it's a shot of a bunch of empty buildings. Rukongai my beloved. <3
This is a great environment shot, for anyone needing to describe Junrinan. You can see the mountains off in the distance, and, if you look in the opposite direction, you immediately see the Seireitei:
Tumblr media
Which is pretty bananas in terms of the sharp architectural distinctions between the two. At least until you think about how sharp urban ecotones can be in real life, and then you're like, ah, that tracks.
Before Yoruichi tells us Rukongai's name, we hear it referred to as the "western slums" in the official Gotei warning order, a term Yoruichi then echoes (in the Viz). I think they chose "slum" because it makes the most sense in context; Yoruichi describes Rukongai as the poorest but most free place in Soul Society.
In the Japanese, the term both the Gotei alert and Yoruichi use is 郛外区 (fugaiku), which isn't explicitly a word for slum (and, briefly Googling around, seems to be mostly Bleach-specific). It uses the characters for what Jisho defines as "earthwork enclosure around a castle"* combined with "outside" + "district" which is, ignoring any connotations/context, just the place outside the castle/city. Again, for the purposes of emphasizing the message and specifying the vocabulary, "slum" is efficient and meaning-dense.
*"郛" is not part of the usual kanji one might learn; it's part of a family of kanji that in manga tends to be used for stylistic flare/to connote feelings of the ancient/the literary.
BUT, also consider: If you were an Academy student writing your final paper for Sociology 437: Urban Planning in the Spirit World and Environmental Justice, I feel like there's so much fodder here for fun worldbuilding/history-making:
Does the Gotei ALWAYS officially refer to Rukongai by its geographic designation (fugaiku) rather than by its population (Rukongai, home to wandering souls)? It's an interesting rhetorical choice, given that their job directly concerns those souls, but calling it "the place outside" in official documents/alerts explicitly privileges other information.
Yoruichi says it's "commonly known" as "Rukongai" and uses different quotation/name marks for fugaiku vs. Rukongai, so they're not seen as equivalent names, per se; one might argue that even though it's the Gotei-official term for RUkongai, in actuality it is a way of refusing to name Rukongai, except in terms of its geographic description relative to the Seireitei. It's not a Place, capital P, just something that exists relative to our Place.
Who came up with "Rukongai"? The answer can't just be "Rukongai did" because it's massive and splintered and doesn't appear to have a central governing body. Some ancient Rukongai scribe ghost? The nobles? I'm into both these options. Or maybe it was a mail-in poll.
Was there, historically, an "earthwork enclosure around the castle"? Obviously there's a gate that we're told mostly lives in the sky, but back in the day was there also originally a different, 24/7 wall?

Are you just going to leave me here?
Connor Stole x Athena!reader
Genre: Fluff
Requested by anonymous
Masterlist
Tumblr media
I was in my cabin quietly reading a book my sister Annabeth recommended to me about ancient architecture in western civilizations. It was surprisingly good, she’d been trying for a while to get someone else into architecture so she could geek out with her. Her plan had worked, I was hooked.
I was reading about Athenian architecture in the United States capital specifically when there was a knock at the cabin door. I grabbed my owl bookmark to keep my page, set down my book, and walked over to the door.
Before I could even get to the handle the door swung open revealing my best friend, Connor Stoll. With his curly hair and cheeky smile he walked into the Athena cabin and slumped down onto my bed. “Making yourself at home are ya?” I said, with a small laugh.
“You know it. Your cabin is so much nicer than Hermes” he said, his face in my pillow. “That’s because we know how to keep our cabin clean” I responded, walking over and sitting at the foot of my bed by his feet.
He flipped over and looked at me and then back at the large library room in the center of the cabin. The only part of the cabin that was any sort of messy. Looking at it, it was somehow easy and impossible to believe it belonged to the children of wisdom, books were everywhere. Unevenly on shelves, in large stacks on tables and desks, chaotic piles on the floor, you name it. There was one large circular table in the center, with a cutout so people could get to the middle. There were chairs on either side, though no one ever used them, a lot of our work was done standing. The table was littered with loose papers, torn up documents, finished and unfinished maps, stuff like that. There were all sorts of writing utensils as well. There were pencils, pens, markers, highlighters, even a few quills in ink pots. It looked like an archive had exploded but to me and my siblings, we knew where everything was and where everything needed to be.
“Clean” he said in a sarcastic tone. “I looked at him with a playful grin and said “ha ha you know what I mean,” I looked back at the room and remembered the map I had promised I’d finish for my brother and got up. “That reminds me,” I said “I needed to finish a map for Gabriel” and walked over to the table to start working.
I felt a hand grab my wrist, stopping me in my tracks. “Wait-” I heard him say. He was sitting up now, his arm outstretched to grab mine and his face tilted slightly up to look in my eyes. He continued, “you’ve been reading and working all day, you deserve a break” he told me with a sympathetic smile. Gods how I loved that smile, it always made a dark situation have a little bit of light. “I haven’t been working that long, it’s only been a few hours” I said, not moving still. “You skipped lunch, I don’t even think you realized it” he told me, starting to sound a little worried. He was right, I skipped lunch and hadn’t realized. I was reading so much and working so hard I hadn’t even acknowledged how hungry I am. “It worries me when you put work over eating,” he said.
I blushed a little, I wouldn’t tell anyone and especially not Connor himself but last summer I’d fallen for him. How funny is that? Daughter of wisdom falling in love with the son of tricksters. To know he cared about me made me feel special, but he’s my best friend, he probably was worried because of that reason, not because he loves me back.
“I know,” I lied, I hadn’t known, “but I promised Gabriel I’d finish this” I said and turned to keep walking to the table. I picked up a compass and a pencil that’d been lying somewhere on the table and started to chart the map again. I saw Connor pull out a chair and sit in my peripheral vision. I looked at him quickly and gave him a small laugh which he returned. We remained that way for a few minutes, me in the zone charting the map and him watching, before I heard let out a sigh and started to get up. I looked at him as he said “well let me know when you’re done, I have an awesome prank planned for the aphrodite cabin but I need a strategist” before turning to the door.
I dropped the compass and the pencil and grabbed his wrist, stopping him like he’d stopped me before. He turned to face me with a little bit of a questioning look on his face. “Are you just gonna leave me here? To work on this map all alone, in an empty cabin?” I said, in a joking tone. A smile crept up onto my face.
He smiled back and looked at me for a sec before dipping his head and laughing a little. He had a big smile on his face, like he was planning something. Before I knew it he’d leaned down and planted a kiss on my lips. It was short lived and over before it began,“as long as you’re done soon” and took his chair back to watch me work again.
I stood there for a moment, stunned at what just happened. The boy I'd been in love with, my best friend, just kissed me. I turned around to face him, he was in his chair looking at me with that same cheeky smile. The one that always made me happy. And I smiled back. I walked back over to the table, grabbed my compass and pencil and began to work again, him watching me with loving eyes. At that moment all my fears about him not liking me back flew out the window and we sat there for what felt like ever. Alone in the cabin, as I worked, as he watched, in love.

The name of Magic
This is my current priority WIP. I've been writing this for ages, making little headway, and being very precious about all the words in it. I'm finally shaking off all the crap and delving headfirst. Honestly, sometimes the 'moment of inspiration' that helps you write one perfect gleaming passage can hamper the rest of the project because you care too much about what you've already written. It's happened to me with this one. But since I'm finally getting somewhere with the backend of the planning-y stuff, let's start it off.
Synopsis:
A desolate world is no longer a place for humanity to survive. A final and suspiciously well-kept vestige sits atop a sheer cliff, surrounded by mountains on three sides. The city of Ragusa is a gleaming, gaudy, absurd collection of rules, mental illness, and perfectly manicured hedges.
Magic is almost not worth mentioning, it happens all the time and means almost nothing to anyone. But our, uh, hero? Arast is uniquely talented at Magic, which in a society that trims its hedges of any overly ambitious branches, that can land you in hot water. In Arast's case it lands him outside the city, over the mountains, on a "quest" given to him by the King. He and his friend Jelly are on a mission to find and slay a marauding wildebeast for the King when they discover something dark about their suspicious city. Perhaps the city's acute perfection of civic architecture was too good to be true.
So there!
I want to try to post about this every now and then, I've been keen on writing this for ages, it's just always been a really difficult one for the kind of premise I've gone with.
I've been heavily inspired by:
HunterxHunter
Terry Pratchett's Discworld Series
Monty Python's Mystico and Janet: Flats built by hypnosis
Donald Trump
I feel like I've come up with a really unique magic system that I want to use to explore contemporary issues in society, but that's lofty, because my main goal, is to finally write something I just want to write, that I enjoy writing. Something silly, cerebral, clever, altogether unserious, and varied. That's what I'm looking for.
This project has no real demographic, I just want to write it for myself, but the motivation to write it for others and internet strangers helps.
I hope you all follow me along for the ride!
Tumblr media
A quick lil' screenshot of my planning document which I'll be using to organise ideas because my brain does not work the way a word doc wants it to.
And here's a link to my Wattpad account (lol) that I've used infrequently to post random tidbits: https://www.wattpad.com/user/FelixMcphie
Thanks for listening! (Reading, but listening just fits better)

Sahara
(Didn’t really check for any mistakes)
I should add more context to Sahara. Iskall Mumbo and Grian are at the casino, because Iskall and Mumbo wanted to see how the Concorp casinos worked. Grian is the best gambler out of the three of them and they set him up to cheat in the game of poker to see what would happen.
Except Grian didn’t pay attention to the meeting and was left clueless. (Iskall planned this, Mumbo was a bit against the plan but went with it.)
Mumbo and Iskall know how Concorp works just not Aqua Town. (I like your idea buleix) let’s put Mumbo as an old worker of theirs and he knows how they work. He didn’t work under the casino but knows how the casinos work. He was one of the best engineers in Concorp.
Mumbo dislike the fact that they con people out of their companies and took whatever they wanted. They left people jobless at times and then took them into their company, due to how helpless they were. (It was Easy prey for them.)
So he left to make his own company. A better company that would take down Concorp. He ended up recruiting Iskall and Grian along the way. Iskall was a man with many talents in a shitty job and Grian was a broke college student in architecture.
But Mumbo was one of their favorites. They always had him by their side. They even raised his pay after every invention he made. Grian was sure to become their new favorite, maybe even more.
The Sahara company is more Redstone based. It focuses on well-made Redstone inventions with a nice outer layer around them. It’s one of the top five companies In the city and is known for hiring low-raking Redstoners and builders. It’s also known for getting lower companies back on their feet and having a large amount of shops in the area. (This is the gist of their company)
“We should really tell him.” Mumbo shuffled In his seat, his eyes darting to Grian and back to Iskall. He was nervous about this plan, there was a high chance of something going wrong.
“He will be fine, trust me.” Iskall waved a hand as he cleaned up some papers. Mumbo looked at Grian, he lay in his chair, his hair a mess and his eyes unfocused. Mumbo grumbles and turns to look back at Iskall.
“Well, if anything happens to him it’s your fault.” Mumbo picked up a pile of papers and dropped them in front of Grian. The table shook at the new weight and Grian fell with a squawk. Iskall laughed and Mumbo sighed. He pulled on his coat and picked up a few documents.
‘What will he do now, this wasn’t in the plan. He didn’t want to put any of his friends in danger just to take down his old ex Bosses. What was he thinking when he recruited two of the most important people in his life.’ Mumbo rubbed his face and walked out of the room. His steps were loud and his movements wary. ‘What should he do now?’
-AAA anon, these ask are going to be long, I hope you know what you sighed up for. Also the Aqua town casinos look like the ones in LV. Lots of windows and lights. (Also my username is hadesfangsmoon)
OOOOH YEEEES
Mumbo working in the far past, knowing some things about Concorp and Aqua Town in general- He really wants to take convex down.. hating their morals.. Poor poor Grian kinda being used as a pawn in Mumbo's game (like not in a bad way.. i think?) idk--
I will absolutely eat up anything you share here with the AU.. long or not.. i love it.. so much.. *rattles the bars of my cage*

Exploring the Use of 3D Laser Scanning for BIM in Toronto's Construction Sector
As a professional immersed in Toronto's bustling construction industry, I've had the opportunity to witness the transformative impact of technology on our projects. One advancement that stands out is the use of 3D laser scanning, particularly when integrated with Building Information Modeling (BIM). My journey with this technology has not only reshaped how I approach construction but also highlighted the unique advantages it offers in one of North America's most dynamic urban environments.
Tumblr media
My First Encounter with 3D Laser Scanning
I still remember my first project involving 3D laser scanning, a complex renovation of a historic building in Toronto's downtown core. The challenge was to modernize the space while preserving its architectural integrity. Traditional surveying methods were inadequate for capturing the intricate details required for this task, so we decided to utilize 3D laser scanning.
Initially, I was skeptical about the technology. Would it truly deliver the accuracy we needed? However, my doubts were quickly dispelled. The scanner captured millions of data points within a matter of minutes, generating a highly detailed 3D model that we could then integrate into our BIM platform. This model served as the foundation for our design and planning phases, enabling us to visualize our project with remarkable clarity.
Understanding 3D Laser Scanning
For those unfamiliar, 3D laser scanning employs laser beams to capture the precise shape and dimensions of physical objects and spaces. In the construction sector, this means creating accurate 3D models of buildings and environments. The technology allows us to document existing conditions with exceptional detail, paving the way for informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
In a competitive market like Toronto, where timelines are tight and budgets are often limited, precision and efficiency are essential. 3D laser scanning removes much of the guesswork associated with traditional surveying methods. The data it provides is not just accurate; it’s comprehensive, offering insights that can lead to better project outcomes.
youtube
The Benefits of Combining 3D Laser Scanning with BIM
The integration of 3D laser scanning with BIM creates a powerful synergy that enhances project outcomes. In my experience, this combination is revolutionary. For instance, during a recent commercial retrofit project, we scanned the space to create an as-built model that captured every structural element. Integrating this model into our BIM platform allowed us to plan the retrofit with unprecedented precision.
Here are some of the key benefits I’ve observed:
Accuracy: 3D laser scanning delivers unparalleled accuracy. In a city where even minor errors can lead to significant issues, having precise data is invaluable. This accuracy helps to eliminate surprises during construction, ensuring that the project proceeds smoothly.
Efficiency: The speed at which 3D laser scanning operates is remarkable. Within minutes, we can gather comprehensive data, saving time on site surveys. This efficiency allows our team to focus on planning and execution rather than getting bogged down in data collection.
Cost Savings: While the upfront costs of acquiring scanning technology may seem high, the long-term savings are substantial. By reducing the likelihood of errors and the need for rework, projects can be completed more efficiently, ultimately saving money.
Risk Mitigation: Every construction project carries inherent risks. By leveraging 3D laser scanning, we can identify potential issues early in the design phase, mitigating risks before they become costly problems.
Preservation of Historical Features: Toronto is rich in history, and many construction projects involve working with historical buildings. 3D laser scanning captures intricate details, allowing us to modernize these structures while respecting their original design.
Challenges of Implementing 3D Laser Scanning
Despite the clear advantages, implementing 3D laser scanning is not without its challenges. The initial investment in equipment and software can be significant. Additionally, there is a learning curve associated with the technology. Training staff to effectively use the scanners and integrate the data into BIM can require time and resources.
However, in my experience, the benefits far outweigh the challenges. Once our team became familiar with the technology, we quickly saw its value in enhancing our workflow. The upfront costs are easily justified by the improved accuracy and efficiency we’ve gained.
The Future of 3D Laser Scanning and BIM in Toronto
Looking ahead, I believe 3D laser scanning will become an industry standard in Toronto’s construction sector. As technology continues to advance and become more accessible, more companies will adopt it. I’ve already noticed an increasing number of industry professionals embracing this innovative approach, and I’m excited to see how it will shape our projects in the future.
Toronto’s skyline is constantly evolving, and as we tackle new challenges, the demand for accurate, data-rich models will only grow. Whether constructing new high-rises or restoring historical landmarks, the role of 3D laser scanning in conjunction with BIM will be crucial.
Conclusion
Reflecting on my journey with 3D laser scanning and BIM, I can confidently say that this technology has transformed how we approach construction in Toronto. The accuracy, efficiency, and cost savings it provides are game-changers in an industry where precision is paramount.
For those in the construction field, I encourage you to explore the potential of 3D laser scanning for your projects. While the initial investment may be daunting, the long-term benefits are clear. My experiences have shown me that integrating this technology not only enhances the quality of our projects but also streamlines the entire construction process.
In Toronto’s ever-evolving construction landscape, embracing 3D laser scanning and BIM is a surefire way to stay ahead of the curve. This powerful combination is not just the future of construction; it’s the key to delivering successful, sustainable projects in our vibrant city.

A home renovation business works with existing properties to repurpose or redesign their structure, architecture, function, or design. There are many types of renovations, from single rooms to entire homes. Like other construction ventures, home renovation is in high demand, particularly with real estate investors and new homeowners. Home renovation isn’t easy work; it requires a lot of manual labor, planning, permits, and teamwork. You’ll need to follow the proper procedures to ensure your prospective renovation business can get off the ground successfully.
1. Start a Business Plan
A business plan solidifies your company’s goals, purpose, ideas, and operation policies. If you haven’t figured out how your renovation business will operate, now is the time. A business plan will identify your company size in terms of employee count and locations, your financial goals, who your ideal client base is, and the types of renovations you’ll get. As the business’s owner, what is your role in the company? Will you also be renovating, or will you oversee all operations without fieldwork? It’s up to you, but consulting with business partners, investors, and financial advisors can help create a solid and successful vision. Marketing plans, executive summaries, lists of services, and market analyses are all part of an ideal, thorough business plan.
2. Plan Your Budget
Starting your home renovation business will cost a lot of money. You’ll need equipment, employees, marketing, a physical location or office, utilities, internet service, tools, and more. These costs will be in addition to your expenses, as your business won’t be profitable yet. Starting a budget is a great way to calculate finances for your business. Subtract your potential costs from your total income. You can see how much money you’ll need to start your business and how much will come from external sources such as loans, grants, or investors. Before taking out loans, look into business startup grants from your local government or investment funds from friends, family, or potential business partners.
3. Create an Online Presence
It’s tough for any business, including renovation, to be successful without adapting to the modern world. Creating an online presence allows more people to locate, research, and review your business. Create social media profiles for your business where applicable. Renovation businesses can provide home renovation tips and videos on social media platforms like Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, and YouTube. More importantly, creating a website for your business so potential customers can find out more about you and submit inquiries is ideal. Your website should be simple but attractive. Creating a Google Business Profile will allow people to see your website, physical location, phone number, photos, reviews, and more. These factors contribute to a thorough online presence that can grow your client base.
4. Register Your Business
To legitimize and file taxes with your business, you must register it with your local and federal government. You will choose a name and a business structure (LLC, corporation, sole proprietorship, etc.) You’ll also need to receive an employer identification number (EIN) for financial purposes. You will provide documentation about the owner, address, and business plan to register it. You will need business registration information to obtain essential credentials like licenses, so keep all copies of paperwork for multiple purposes (including for yourself and other partners).
5. Obtain Licenses
You need a business license in most states to operate a commercial venture. You also may need building permits depending on the type of renovation you cover. Additionally, since renovation is a part of the construction industry, you or any relevant employees will need a general contractor license. Plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians will need additional licensing if applicable. Securing a license is a relatively straightforward process, and it typically involves providing business registration documentation, proof of insurance, passing an exam, and paying licensing fees. However, where you live will significantly determine licensing laws and requirements. Below are some examples of state policies for contracting licenses. Here is related information on 3 key states, for example.
Oregon
In Oregon, you must hold a general contractor license to perform any type of commercial construction on a property, and this can include renovations. Oregon contractor license requirements involve a mandatory pre-licensing course and state exam, so preparation and studying are essential.
Florida
In Florida, contractor license eligibility relies on credit checks in addition to passing an exam. You’ll also need fingerprinting, proof of liability insurance, and worker’s compensation. Once you obtain a general contractor license, you can get specialty licenses, such as plumbing or electric.
California
You need proof of four years of work experience in California to obtain a contractor license. You’ll also need to pass a two-part state exam. Many applicants will utilize pre-licensing training and exam preparation courses to ensure they only have to take this lengthy exam once. You can get your license after paying licensing fees and submitting the proper paperwork.
Conclusion
There are many steps and factors to starting a home renovation business. These companies are in high demand but require hard work and determination for success. Before opening your doors, you will need to create a business plan, register your business, get licensed, and budget for your startup. Creating an online presence can also boost your brand identity and improve your chances of success.

How Multi-Agent LLMs Can Enable AI Models to More Effectively Solve Complex Tasks
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/how-multi-agent-llms-can-enable-ai-models-to-more-effectively-solve-complex-tasks/
How Multi-Agent LLMs Can Enable AI Models to More Effectively Solve Complex Tasks
Most organizations today want to utilize large language models (LLMs) and implement proof of concepts and artificial intelligence (AI) agents to optimize costs within their business processes and deliver new and creative user experiences. However, the majority of these implementations are ‘one-offs.’ As a result, businesses struggle to realize a return on investment (ROI) in many of these use cases.
Generative AI (GenAI) promises to go beyond software like co-pilot. Rather than merely providing guidance and help to a subject matter expert (SME), these solutions could become the SME actors, autonomously executing actions. For GenAI solutions to get to this point, organizations must provide them with additional knowledge and memory, the ability to plan and re-plan, as well as the ability to collaborate with other agents to perform actions.
While single models are suitable in some scenarios, acting as co-pilots, agentic architectures open the door for LLMs to become active components of business process automation. As such, enterprises should consider leveraging LLM-based multi-agent (LLM-MA) systems to streamline complex business processes and improve ROI.
What is an LLM-MA System?
So, what is an LLM-MA system? In short, this new paradigm in AI technology describes an ecosystem of AI agents, not isolated entities, cohesively working together to solve complex challenges.
Decisions should occur within a wide range of contexts, just as reliable decision-making amongst humans requires specialization. LLM-MA systems build this same ‘collective intelligence’ that a group of humans enjoys through multiple specialized agents interacting together to achieve a common goal. In other words, in the same way that a business brings together different experts from various fields to solve one problem, so too do LLM-MA systems operate.
Business demands are too much for a single LLM. However, by distributing capabilities among specialized agents with unique skills and knowledge instead of having one LLM shoulder every burden, these agents can complete tasks more efficiently and effectively. Multi-agent LLMs can even ‘check’ each other’s work through cross-verification, cutting down on ‘hallucinations’ for maximum productivity and accuracy.
In particular, LLM-MA systems use a divide-and-conquer method to acquire more refined control over other aspects of complex AI-empowered systems – notably, better fine-tuning to specific data sets, selecting methods (including pre-transformer AI) for better explainability, governance, security and reliability and using non-AI tools as a part of a complex solution. Within this divide-and-conquer approach, agents perform actions and receive feedback from other agents and data, enabling the adoption of an execution strategy over time.
Opportunities and Use Cases of LLM-MA Systems
LLM-MA systems can effectively automate business processes by searching through structured and unstructured documents, generating code to query data models and performing other content generation. Companies can use LLM-MA systems for several use cases, including software development, hardware simulation, game development (specifically, world development), scientific and pharmaceutical discoveries, capital management processes, financial and trading economy, etc.
One noteworthy application of LLM-MA systems is call/service center automation. In this example, a combination of models and other programmatic actors utilizing pre-defined workflows and procedures could automate end-user interactions and perform request triage via text, voice or video. Moreover, these systems could navigate the most optimal resolution path by leveraging procedural and SME knowledge with personalization data and invoking Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)-type and non-LLM agents.
In the short term, this system will not be fully automated – mistakes will happen, and there will need to be humans in the loop. AI is not ready to replicate human-like experiences due to the complexity of testing free-flow conversation against, for example, responsible AI concerns. However, AI can train on thousands of historical support tickets and feedback loops to automate significant parts of call/service center operations, boosting efficiency, reducing ticket resolution downtime and increasing customer satisfaction.
Another powerful application of multi-agent LLMs is creating human-AI collaboration interfaces for real-time conversations, solving tasks that were not possible before. Conversational swarm intelligence (CSI), for example, is a method that enables 1000s of people to hold real-time conversations. Specifically, CSI allows small groups to dialog with one another while simultaneously having different groups of agents summarize conversation threads. It then fosters content propagation across the larger body of people, empowering human coordination at an unprecedented scale.
Security, Responsible AI and Other Challenges of LLM-MA Systems
Despite the exciting opportunities of LLM-MA systems, some challenges to this approach arise as the number of agents and the size of their action spaces increase. For example, businesses will need to address the issue of plain old hallucinations, which will require humans in the loop – a designated party must be responsible for agentic systems, especially those with potential critical impact, such as automated drug discovery.
There will also be problems with data bias, which can snowball into interaction bias. Likewise, future LLM-MA systems running hundreds of agents will require more complex architectures while accounting for other LLM shortcomings, data and machine learning operations.
Additionally, organizations must address security concerns and promote responsible AI (RAI) practices. More LLMs and agents increase the attack surface for all AI threats. Companies must decompose different parts of their LLM-MA systems into specialized actors to provide more control over traditional LLM risks, including security and RAI elements.
Moreover, as solutions become more complex, so must AI governance frameworks to ensure that AI products are reliable (i.e., robust, accountable, monitored and explainable), resident (i.e., safe, secure, private and effective) and responsible (i.e., fair, ethical, inclusive, sustainable and purposeful). Escalating complexity will also lead to tightened regulations, making it even more paramount that security and RAI be part of every business case and solution design from the start, as well as continuous policy updates, corporate training and education and TEVV (testing, evaluation, verification and validation) strategies.
Extracting the Full Value from an LLM-MA System: Data Considerations
For businesses to extract the full value from an LLM-MA system, they must recognize that LLMs, on their own, only possess general domain knowledge. However, LLMs can become value-generating AI products when they rely on enterprise domain knowledge, which usually consists of differentiated data assets, corporate documentation, SME knowledge and information retrieved from public data sources.
Businesses must shift from data-centric, where data supports reporting, to AI-centric, where data sources combine to empower AI to become an actor within the enterprise ecosystem. As such, companies’ ability to curate and manage high-quality data assets must extend to those new data types. Likewise, organizations need to modernize their data and insight consumption approach, change their operating model and introduce governance that unites data, AI and RAI.
From a tooling perspective, GenAI can provide additional help regarding data. In particular, GenAI tools can generate ontologies, create metadata, extract data signals, make sense of complex data schema, automate data migration and perform data conversion. GenAI can also be used to enhance data quality and act as governance specialists as well as co-pilots or semi-autonomous agents. Already, many organizations use GenAI to help democratize data, as seen in ‘talk-to-your-data’ capabilities.
Continuous Adoption in the Age of Rapid Change
An LLM does not add value or achieve positive ROI by itself but as a part of business outcome-focused applications. The challenge is that unlike in the past, when the technological capabilities of LLMs were somewhat known, today, new capabilities emerge weekly and sometimes daily, supporting new business opportunities. On top of this rapid change is an ever-evolving regulatory and compliance landscape, making the ability to adapt fast crucial for success.
The flexibility required to take advantage of these new opportunities necessitates that businesses undergo a mindset shift from silos to collaboration, promoting the highest level of adaptability across technology, processes and people while implementing robust data management and responsible innovation. Ultimately, the companies that embrace these new paradigms will lead the next wave of digital transformation.

The Fundamentals of Ethical Hacking: How It Safeguards Your Online Life
In a world where cyber threats are a constant worry, ethical hacking has become a key player in safeguarding our digital lives. But what exactly is ethical hacking, and how does it work? Let’s break it down in simple terms.
Tumblr media
What Is Ethical Hacking?
Ethical hacking is like having a friendly neighborhood watchdog who helps you secure your home. Instead of just keeping watch, they actually test your security measures to make sure they're strong. In the same way, ethical hackers test the security of computer systems to find vulnerabilities before the bad guys can exploit them.
Why Is It Important?
Think of your computer system like a house. If you leave doors and windows unlocked, burglars can get in easily. Ethical hackers help you find and fix those weak spots before the burglars do. This process is crucial for businesses and individuals alike to protect sensitive information from cybercriminals.
How Does Ethical Hacking Work?
Here’s a simple rundown of the ethical hacking process:
1. Planning and Scoping Goal Setting: The ethical hacker and the organization agree on what systems will be tested and what methods will be used. Permission: Unlike malicious hackers, ethical hackers always get permission before testing any system. This is usually done through a legal agreement.
2. Reconnaissance Gathering Information: The ethical hacker collects as much information as possible about the target system. This can include details about network architecture, software in use, and user practices.
3. Scanning Identifying Vulnerabilities: Tools are used to scan the system for known vulnerabilities. This is like checking the locks and windows of a house to see if they’re easy to bypass.
4. Exploitation Testing weak spots: ethical hackers try to exploit the identified vulnerabilities, but only in a controlled and safe manner. This step is crucial for understanding how serious the vulnerabilities are.
5. Reporting Documenting Findings: After testing, the ethical hacker creates a detailed report outlining the vulnerabilities discovered, how they were exploited, and recommendations for fixing them. Fixing Issues: The organization then uses this report to address the security issues.
6. Re-testing Verification: Once fixes are applied, ethical hackers may be asked to test the system again to ensure that the vulnerabilities have been properly addressed and no new issues have been introduced.
Tumblr media
The Role of Ethical Hackers
Ethical hackers are often called "white hats" in contrast to "black hats," who are the malicious hackers. White hats use their skills to improve security and protect information, while black hats exploit vulnerabilities for illegal gain.
Why You Should Care
In today’s digital age, cybersecurity is more important than ever. Whether you’re running a business or just managing personal accounts, ethical hacking helps ensure that your information remains safe from those who might want to misuse it.
By understanding and utilizing ethical hacking, you’re not just protecting your data; you’re helping to build a safer digital environment for everyone. It’s like having a trustworthy friend who keeps a vigilant eye on your security, ensuring that you can go about your online activities with peace of mind.
So, the next time you hear about ethical hacking, remember—it’s all about making sure that the digital world stays secure, one test at a time!

Day Two: Despite a Nap, We Did Well for Our Step Count
Our first full day in Stockholm began a little touristy. We felt that it was only proper to head to Gamla Stan, the "old city," with narrow stone streets and lots of little trinket shops. We had some local breakfast, which was just okay (Swedes love their mayo like Americans love ketchup) and hit the subway. Other than memorizing which station was at which end (imagine you didn't know if you were supposed to take the 2/3 train towards the Bronx or Brooklyn) the trains were easy, efficient, and clean. To get a ticket, you swipe the same way you do for OMNY. It made us realize how resistant New Yorkers are to change.
Gamla Stan is home to a lot of little touristy stops, but one that was on our list was Stockholm's Jewish Museum! Housed in their old synagogue, it told the story of their first Jewish immigrants, who were merchants and tailors, and the museum itself was in the space of the oldest synagogue as well. We learned about Swedish Jewish history and saw some really cool artifacts. I mean, check out this special Torah plate that has Sweden's signature three crowns on it.
Tumblr media
It was also really cool to see modern Jews showing their culture and heritage entwined with Swedish nationality, such as these kippot, which looked more like art than hats.
Tumblr media
There were so many other cool little shops we saw! Stores devoted to licorice, science fiction books (in English and Swedish), and Scandinavian clothes! We also took a stop into the Nobel Prize museum, which had a lot of documents and artifacts from their past winners, like a typewriter from a literature laureate, or a chess set from a science laureate. Albert Einstein's handwritten notes were on display as were Hewlett High School alumni Louise Glück's.
We may never be royals, but we did go up to a balcony by the royal palace! Rachel remembered one scene from Young Royals (on Netflix) was set here.
Tumblr media
Like imagine a hundred thousand people down there. That's the scene.
With all that walking, we were ready for a nap. We went back to the apartment and legit crashed, relaxed, had some downtime, and got ready for dinner.
When you think of Swedish food what do you think of? Fish? How about MEATBALLS? We went to a TikTok famous restaurant called Meatballs for the People! And it looked like a restaurant we'd find back home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was great, and all around this neighborhood, called Södermalm, we thought, gee doesn't this feel like Brooklyn? It reminded us a lot of Williamsburg.
We watched the end of the England v Switzerland match at a bar and walked around. We got great gin cocktails at a distillery and wandered the late evening as the sun set at 10.
Alex: So, Rach, what might you take away and remember most from today? Definitely not breakfast, right?
Rach: Definitely not breakfast. That mayo had cheese for sure so I didn't eat much...
I think the thing that will stick with me is the moment we sat by the water on the reclining benches, and closed our eyes and every time I opened them I saw this beautiful architecture and was so excited to be here with you. It was a little moment, but that's one I'll probably remember.
Alex: Oh, I have a picture of that. See?

Rachel: Haha what a terrible picture!
Alex: I couldn't see. The sun was in my eyes. The sun is out all of the time. But it's never hot, right? The weather is crazy.
Rachel: What are you talking about? This is my IDEAL weather! Rain and all!
Alex: The rain actually reminds me a lot of Seattle in lightness, but it only lasts an hour or something like that.
Rachel: What was your highlight from today?
Alex: For me it's definitely walking around Södermalm because it felt like the part of the city I was most comfortable with. I'm looking forward to going back and hanging there, maybe while you work some afternoons.
Rachel: I also loved walking around, going to a few bars and generally just enjoying each other's company.
Alex: Well I guess that's why we're here.
Rachel: 1000%!
Tomorrow our plan is to hit more museums and parks in the eastern side of Stockholm. Stay tuned!
