Kenpachi's Place
On the subject of "what people call each other" more generally, my favorite Bleach topic, Aizen is also kind of weird about Zaraki. He refers to Renji leaving the 5th for the 11th as Renji being "taken away to Kenpachi's place." Was he. Was he kidnapped. Is Kenpachi's Place a trafficking front.
Referring to Zaraki by title is a Choice, for sure. I don't know if anyone else does that (besides Ichigo), but I can think of many who do not, would never.
Referring to the 11th as "Kenpachi's Place" also feels like a Choice. It makes me think about Renji's question to Ichigo when they first meet:
[Bleach 054]
His meaning of is speech bubble is, "Which [number] Division are you affiliated with?" but the pronunciation is just "Where are you affiliated?" So there's already a sense, I guess, that the geographic question of "where" implies your divisional affiliation, and that divisions are thought of as places. Makes sense, given that all the divisions are meaningful geographic spreads in the Seireitei.
Is it still weird that it's "Kenpachi's Place" and not just idk, "the 11th Division"? I mean, I think it is, but it does speak to the unique tradition of leadership succession the 11th's got going on, and how intense the cult of personality is in the 11th, as a division whose nature is extremely tied to the nature of whoever its leader happens to be.
Aizen also never actually refers to the 11th as the 11th, so in order to make that connection we'd have to remember Zaraki's name and number from when he showed up at Byakuya's Place. Why wouldn’t he? Idk but I enjoy it as character info. (NB: Byakuya is perfectly happy to refer to Tousen purely by number, as "9th Captain" and not by any name at all, so there's a lot of different conventions out and about across the various captains.)
#also am never not thinking about that one time hitsugaya tells matsumoto they should go to renji's place (same phrase as aizen uses here)#whatever in god's name that's supposed to mean and however hitsugaya is meant to know where a 'renji's place' might be#and they don't end up at the 6th or some place normal but some random patch of bumfuck rukongai#aizen sousuke#zaraki kenpachi#bleach manga#bleach language#bleach reread 2021#bleach カラー#no brain just bleach

On Christmas Day of 2018, I received a paperback copy of George Orwell's 1984. I was 12 years old.
I remember the adults - aunts and uncles, parents, grandparents, looking at me cautiously, as if they had handed me a live bomb rather than a book. "That's a very intense book, okay?" my father told me. "If you want, we can talk about it after you read it." 12-year-old me, with only a dim idea of what fascism actually was and an insatiable appetite for books, only nodded.
While my younger cousins and sister played with their new toys, I sat on the couch and read the book in one sitting. When I finished, I looked up to see the adults staring at me with a strange sort of fascination. "Do you want to talk about it?" my father asked.
"No." I shrugged and turned away.
The truth was, I had been expecting a happy ending. Winston Smith was the good guy, wasn't he? Why didn't he win? Evil governments always lost in the end, didn't they? How could Winston have been brainwashed into believing such an evil, awful dictatorship was truly great? After all, when my middle school history teachers talked about dictatorships, those of Hitler and Stalin, it was obvious that they were the worst of the worst. No one actually agreed with them, did they?
Then I remembered my fourth grade class talking about the upcoming election, laughing about how obviously stupid Trump's wall idea was, and how strange it felt to hear someone say Clinton was worse. I don't remember his reasoning, but I distinctly remember thinking it was dumb because what could be dumber than a giant wall around Mexico? I remembered my grandmother arguing against vaccinating children, and I remembered flat Earthers I had seen online. That day was the first time it clicked for me: people believe what they want to believe.
The years passed. I read 1984 again, and again, and again. I watched as Trump shut down the government for sake of a temper tantrum, as he was impeached, as he told Americans to inject bleach, as he politicized a pandemic and let thousands die. I didn't know about his SA scandals. I didn't know he had called Mexicans "thieves and rapists." I just knew he could not be allowed to be president again.
Yet, when 2020 rolled around, I was only 14 years old and could not vote. I settled for watching anxiously as the votes came in - I didn't know much about Joe Biden, but he was clearly a better alternative. He actually believed the COVID-19 pandemic was real, for one. So I sighed in relief as the results came through four days later: Joe Biden had been elected president of the United States.
I kept watching. I watched as Trump incited insurrection, as terrorists stormed the Capitol. I stared in horror at the TV. How could this have happened? How were so many people so delusional?
In December 2021, for my sophomore year English class, I read 1984 again. I thought of January 6th.
My classmates thought it boring, confusing, stupid. It didn't make sense. What did it matter? Who cared whether or not we knew the significance of the character of O'Brien?
I kept watching. The summer before my junior year of high school, just before I entered a relationship with my now-partner, Roe v. Wade was overturned, and I felt a sinking pit in my stomach. Six months later, a friend of mine read 1984 for that same English class, and he loved it - we had a few intense study hall discussions about the nature of doublespeak, of totalitarianism, of a surveillance state. My partner agreed, reading it with a terrified fascination.
I kept watching. I realized I was nonbinary, and I watched in horror as the Republican Party made their creeping advances to eradicate trans rights. Idly, I reread 1984. What the right wanted did seem a lot like Oceania's government, didn't it? I wondered if I'd ever be able to marry my partner, who, despite also being trans, was still the same sex as me. If Trump ran again, he'd probably win, and then what would we do?
Then, 2024. Trump won the primaries in a landslide. I turned 18 and registered to vote. In the meantime, I skimmed Project 2025's bits about banning pornography and thought of 1984 and its carefully curated sexless society, created to achieve perfect complacency. I went off to college and voted absentee, carefully bubbling in the circle next to Vice President Kamala Harris's name. I woke up on Wednesday, November 6th to see Trump had won the presidency.
It has been one week. Again, I watch as Trump proposes a Department of Government Efficiency, which sounds euphemistically horrific. I watch as he suggests Musk to head it, a man known for being as inefficient as possible. I think of the Ministry of Truth and how its entire purpose was to disseminate lies. I watch as people celebrate, mocking me and many others who had desperately voted against a fascist, a rapist, a convicted criminal, a man who would kill us and spit on our graves if he was elected to office. I think of Parsons and duckspeak, the practice of simply spitting out the "correct" propaganda the same way a duck quacked. People really did believe what they wanted to believe, didn't they? I realize Trump won because, deep down, people hated minorities more than they loved democracy.
I hope my loved ones and I will survive another Trump presidency. I hope those in Gaza and Ukraine will survive it too, along with so many others - Jews, POC, immigrants, students, disabled, Muslims. At the very least, I hope to live long enough to watch as the bigots are forced to eat their own words and come to terms with the fact they gleefully voted in their own downfall.
At the end of the day, 1984 taught me something I could not have comprehended at age 12, 14, 15, or 16, but can understand now: democracy dies not with a bang, but with a whimper.

😂😂😂 I cant stop laughing that their circle jerk is still doing the same in 2021. Like it's been years since the story ended, years since their delusions were prove factually wrong, on paper and from 'word of god' - the ONLY one who gets to decide, they had years to reread the manga rationally and maybe grow up and acquire some reading comprehension, and yet they still pretend that they were right? After being proven officially wrong? 😂😂😂 This level of clownery and self-drag should be illegal, it's so embarrassing I almost feel bad for them and I would have if they weren't such horrible harassing bullies for years who frankly had it coming 🤷♀️ if there was ever a fandom that deserved humbling 👀
Yeah and like, obviously I'm still here talking about the same old shit, so the same goes for me too. But the difference is, I'm talking about a series I still love, my all time favorite manga, with my all time favorite otp. I don't have to wipe the egg off my face, or live in denial, or refuse to admit that I was wrong about the endgame ships in a shounen series. Because I wasn't wrong. I was right! And I'll be smug as hell and laughing about that for years to come. But antis still can't let it go, they can't accept that they were wrong and move on. Like they hate bleach so much now and it's trash and Kubo betrayed them etc. but they're still out here giving it attention. There's nothing they can do now; the endgame couples aren't "up for grabs" anymore. They lost, we won. Kubo had my otps planned since chapter one (hell, throw the pilot in there too), while theirs was never even considered. Like, admitting they were wrong would be so much less painful and embarrassing than what they're doing now lmao

Ava's 2021 Year in Review - Book Hoe Chronicles
It's been a crazy year, and then some!!! Lots of things going on in real life, what with getting stabbed multiple times to help weather through this plague, insane bosses, and multiple baby announcements (none of which are mine). Lots to do, but also lots to read!
Eased up on the manga intake this year, with only a handful of fresh titles, and several old manga rereads. Read some new good, gay manga (I recommend Manly Appetites and A Polar Bear in Love for all of my romcom thotties). Picked up some fantastic horror manga this year like Ryusuke Tomoe's Museum, Masasumi Kakizaki's Hideout, and Masaaki Ninomiya's Gannibal. Started Kemono Jihen and fell in love with the amazing storytelling and equally amazing artwork, and reread both Bleach and Hikaru no Go back-to-back.
Horror being my favorite genre to read, I continued to broaden my tastes, and tried some different sub-genres of horror. Tried some Spanish speculative horror (Fever Dream), contemporary Dutch horror (Hex), more climate horror (Devolution & Eden), deep sea horror (Nick Cutter's The Deep), Native American horror (Crota & The Only Good Indians), historical horror (Alma Katsu's The Deep), contemporary American horror (Home Before Dark & more of Christopher Buehlman's horror novels), British horror (White is for Witching), Reddit horror (the Dr. Harper series), weird horror (Vikram Paralkar's The Afflictions), alternate history horror with vampire cartels facing off in Ciudad Mexico (Certain Dark Things), horror novelettes (Nothing But Blackened Teeth), and several horror graphic novel series.
I also got into horror anthologies outside of the usual Ellen Datlow collections. Picked up some translation horror, specifically of Japanese creepypasta from 2chan (Tara A. Devlin's the Kowabana anthology series).
My goal this year was to continue reading horror fiction penned or translated by women, and managed to pick up new authors like Sarah E. England, Cassandra Khaw, and Amber Tamblyn. I look forward to continuing reading Tara A. Devlin’s translated collections as well!
All in all, a wonderful collection of reads this year. Cheers to another great year!

October 2021 Wrap-up
Total Books Read: 45
Favorite Book(s): The Danger of Desire by Sabrina Jeffries, Black Clover, Eden’s Zero, Inuyasha
Book That Surprised Me: I guess The Danger of Desire... I wasn’t expecting to get that into it, but I absolutely loved that book.
Book That Didn’t Meet Expectations: How Not to Marry a Duke: I only made it 3 chapters in before just giving up because I couldn’t stand either of the main characters nor the way it was written. I am also feeling pretty meh about The Demon Prince of Momochi House
Any Rereads? Rave Master; Say I Love You; Bleach; Ouran High School Host Club; Amulet; Blue Exorcist; Naruto; Fairy Tail

I am so freakin excited for the Shaman King 2021 anime! I was seriously inspired by this manga when I was a kid...probably almost as much as Bleach. Yoh is such a cool character! Lol I remember studying the art so much from the manga - I must’ve reread it a million times haha.

i noticed you've talked about gleerp before and i just wanted to say they're letting the mercedes player use madison bailey as a fc.
..... It’s 2021 and we’re really roleplaying pedophilic content ( I mean it, they’ve got 14 year olds having sex on their dash. ) but we’re also using a skinny little twig for one of two of the only plus size characters?
@gleerp, you do realize that Mercedes being a big girl is a huge part of her character, right? It’s not only a big part of her biography and why she’s in the Glee club aka a glee loser, but her experiences as a plus sized black woman have shaped her personality as well.
I know people are more than just their body type or size, but the writers for Glee really leaned in hard on her weight for this character. And that’s okay!! It’s okay to have a plus size character that has story arcs about her being plus size. Anyone that has ever been plus size will tell you that it is vitally important to who they are as a person because of the way it changes their life experiences. Mercedes was the big girl that nobody took seriously because she was big. That was her whole season one arc. So what on earth?????????? Honestly, I consider this fatphobic. You’re really that afraid to have a fat person on your dash??????????? That you decide to make the only plus sized main character smaller than even the skinny canon girls? I would also like to mention that there is colorism involved here too. Amber Riley and Mercedes Jones are very dark skinned, beautiful black women. So why is your accepted fc choice so light skinned? You’re probably white and unaware, but even within the POC community, colorism is incredibly hurtful. A current example is one BTS member saying that another BTS member looks like the N word when he gets a tan. The preference has always been for lighter skin, whether you’re POC or white. Skin bleaching kits exist to tell us that we need to be as light as possible. There are derogatory terms for darker skin colors. Let dark skinned characters stay dark skinned to maintain the representation. Let plus sized characters remain plus sized to maintain the representation.
THIS IS NOT MERCECEDES JONES. What you were looking for was a fat, black- reread that FAT BLACK celebrity with a darker skin tone.
Here, let me help you. There are a ton of plus sized fcs available. As a reminder, since you clearly forgot who Mercedes Jones is, what you’re looking for is someone that looks like this:
I’m disgusted, this is nasty. It’s honestly hard to believe that anyone would join an rp like that but we all know that there are a lot of secret pedos and fatphobic people out there. Especially in the grpc, unfortunately.
Next, you’re going to tell me that they have Unique Adams casted with Andy Biersack as the fc. (Kat Blaque is my fave face for her, just in case you were wondering) This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in at least ten years. Admins allow bullshit like this and then wonder why nobody wants to deal with the grpc and the whole Glee cast and all Glee characters are on almost every single ban list for rps outside of our community. Do better.
UPDATE: I FOUND MORE
Just a quick look at their acceptances and their masterlist and I am finding characters that are the wrong ethnicity! How fun! So we’re whitewashing at gleerp too. It’s really beginning to look like 2006 again as far as brain cells devoted to respecting other people and social decorum are concerned. A note to the admins, all Asians aren’t the same and/or interchangeable. Korean is not the same as Vietnamese is not the same as Japanese is not the same as Chinese. In addition, Mexican is not the same as Pilipino which is not the same as Puerto Rican which is not the same as Spanish and also not the same as Guatemalan. You can’t just interchange and swap out POC ethnicities or put POC of different ethnicities into bio families together for fun and say it’s okay because they’re still POC, that’s not how we work. Just a hot tip.
#glee rp#glee rpg#glee rph#glee roleplay#gleerp#shame on you shix you should know better#I really expected more out of you after all of this time in the grpc#rph#rpcha#rpcw#Anonymous

I've been meaning to send this for some time, so here goes:
Sir, how DARE you?? How dare you take me back to my grimmichi phase?? All it took was that one abo fic and i'm already watching bleach again and rereading fics from my adolescence, wtf??
Also, ur such a good fucking writer that i can't stop reading everything that u post, even when i'm not really into the tags. Everytime u post something that is not really my cup of tea, i'm like "well, i can't NOT read it, i'm not crazy" it would be like refusing a chest of treasures just because there r a few esmeralds and i don't like green idk
Anyeay, u should know that everytime i read a fic from u like that i'm like "hope this doesn't awaken anything in me" and 👏EVERY👏FUCKING👏TIME👏 something DOES awakes in me
Sir u ruined my life and i luv u for it
I'm printing this out and plastering it on my wall so I can look at it every so often and laugh like an anime villain.
Fondly, of course.
And listen, LISTEN, I started poking at Bleach in the year of our lord 2021, toward the end at that, and I am still not quite sure how I got there. I think I'll blame that one anon who talked to me about a Bleach OP in terms of stucky and unwittingly sent me on a Quest.
Are you out there, Technolyze Anon? Come back and see what you've created.
Anyway, I hope to awaken more in you @datteeba-yo
Hollow holes just have so much potential.

RANDOM - 2021 + EXCITING NEWS & A DUCK
Hello, Everyone!
I only just now realized this is my 1st post for 2021 . . .
It shall be lovely, I promise.
(I don’t know why I’m posting One Piece gifs. I need to catch up on reading it. But I’m also reading Demon Slayer / watching it.
It’s beautiful. And also funny. Which I don’t think is talked about as much.
And other books. Sigh. And I want to re-read Agatha Christie’s novels (who’s sold the most copies ever, apart from Shakespeare & the Bible. She also wrote The Mousetrap, the world’s longest running play.)
So. 2021. Wow. We’re not even done with January yet, & so many EVENTS have happened. And it’s not even February yet.
And I wasn’t there for you all, to distract you with lovely anime or writing posts. (I feel terrible! I will do better!)
Starting today!
Funny note, I just heard someone liken the former President of the United States to a mob boss. A mafia don. So of course my mind went to this guy:
(Yes, he’s a terrible man. I’ll have to write a post on him (Dino) soon, because I read something astonishing the other day. Astonishing.)
*No, I’m not suggesting a former President of the United States is like Dino Golzine. Rather, when I hear the word “mob boss” Dino Golzine is immediately the person my mind springs to. Followed by The Godfather, of course.
Speaking of DIno Golzine, I’ll post Part 5 of my Banana Fish Vol. 1 Review tomorrow. It is VERY special, because Eiji! & Ibe!
And last Wednesday (when I meant to post it) I was rereading the section & I discovered the most hilarious thing. And I promise, even if I don’t finish the entire post, I will post the part about Dino Golzine & a duck.
Because it’s priceless.
What is also priceless is this video about anime fashion:
youtube
Which reminds me I always die a little inside when I read Bleach, because there isn’t an actual fashion line of all their glorious fashion ensembles. That I know of. If you know of any, let me know!
Couldn’t find great gifs of their street clothes, unfortunatley. But if you’ve read Bleach, you know it’s everywhere. Like JOJO’s Bizarre Adventure.
But you’ve probably read my gushing about anime fashion before:
https://imagine-fight-write.tumblr.com/post/613717047677943808/random-one-piece-748-i-forgot-to-mention-the
And speaking of priceless (and also astonishing) a friend showed me, about a Bernie Sanders crocheted doll, which sold for over $20,000 dollars.
https://www.housebeautiful.com/lifestyle/a35324874/bernie-sanders-mittens-crochet-doll/
I mean yes, it’s for charity, but still!
I will also post on my other blog, AVwrites, about The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu, a.k.a., the first novel ever written.
By a court lady in Hiein (late Classical Era) Japan.
And I guess is also an anime?
I am currently reading it, & it is glorious. There has been an incident with a ghost, and people speak with lovely, 2 line poetry which has all this double layers and meanings & sometimes there are some sick burns.
Which reminds me of the cutest story 1 of my friends sent me, which reads like poetry, about her cat & a leaf.
I quote:
“There was a leaf on the porch.
He saw it. He wanted it. He meowed and meowed to go outside. So I opened the door. He trotted outside, got his leaf, and trotted back inside with it.
There is now a random leaf in my apartment.”
Finally, another friend of mine is a super big monsters fan. Godzilla, King Kong, Motha, etc.
So she is SUPER excited over the Godzilla vs. King Kong movie coming out soon. And now I am excited because she is excited.
That’s all for now, I need to sleep. Goodnight!
