I'm rewatching House because of the House renaissance on tumblr but also bec it was my fav show before I had The Accident 9 yrs ago...

And I'm actually so impressed at still feeling quite similar to the way I did then? Because it's not a perfect show, and certainly none of the characters in it are... But it's such incredibly compelling storytelling, and fascinating characterisation, and I love how much those aspects factor into every single episode... And how much the so called filler episodes actually factor affirm that.

I like how shit every single character is. Fallible, if you will. And I like how the seasons have space for funny things, and weird things, breathers for the spectators and the characters (and not always at the same time).

I just. I feel like the focus is so much on tight plots and brilliant stories to lure in viewers that all of that is gone? There's no... Space for silliness. Or weirdness. Or actually things that DON'T quite work.

And simultaneously, I think House is still a masterclass in character driven storytelling (in which the illnesses are a character too!). Certainly until idk Broken (s6).

Yeah the show plays into stereotypes! Sometimes in bad and/or gross and/or damaging ways! But it subverts them too! And the message is never, ever, to assume that the stereotype is the whole truth. Or that some people are impervious to it. I'm also not saying the way I watch the show is the way everyone does but idk I like the way it makes me think abt things. And I like how it STILL does that now and the only thing that's felt a bit dated so far is house's Gameboy... Maybe. He WOULD still use his gameboy anno 2024!

“what’s this?” sae drops his training bag on the table, observing the… many, many books and papers scattered across. “studying…” you hum, religiously writing notes on your ipad.

at random, sae picks up a stray paper, trying to see your material. maybe if he understood it, he could help.

…then again, he didn’t really do so well at school.

“…i don’t get your lesson.” he pouts. you look up from your ipad, seeing that he was reading your worksheet from a week ago. you snicker to yourself. it was endearing seeing him pout— it wasn’t everyday that sae itoshi didn’t understand something.

“…well, i guess it’s pretty simple. it’s just that there’s a ton of material to get through…” you sigh. sae hums, hearing that it’s easy to understand. “easy? this?” he quirks an eyebrow.

“yeah.” you nod.

“they say teaching is the best way to learn material. mind teaching me?” he pulls up a chair beside you, and sits down. “…i dunno, sae. aren’t you tired?” you shrug.

sae scoffs to himself, and shakes his head. “i’m alright, i guess. my arms are a bit sore, but i’ll survive. plus, this’ll get you to go to sleep faster tonight.” he hums, slightly contracting the muscles of his forearms under the the sleeve of his team jacket.

“ah.. sure then.” you look through your notes, finding a place to start. he rests his chin in the palm of his hand as he patiently waits for you to start.

you thought this was easy? you must be pretty smart.

his eyes wander down to the scattered papers, formulas and notes all over— just looking at them made his head hurt.

he sighs, shaking out the ache from his over-stimulated brain, and looks back to you. “where should we start, teacher?”

on this tully tuesday, fuck you ryan condal, i see what you're doing. merging kermit and oscar tully and killing off their dad elmo without even naming him, you're trying to hide the muppet-naming pattern by only including the more mundane names. people may have heard of the name grover elsewhere like nonconsective us president grover cleveland, and certainly would with oscar like oscar mayar, the baloney/weiner man, but if you hear the names elmo and/or kermit you're thinking muppets right away. smdh, if you can embrace the gothic horror of harrenhal, you should be able to embrace the whimsy of grrm naming his dance-era tullys after sesame street muppets.
